A/N: I was going to post this this morning but I got busy sooo enjoy this little Easter drabble even though the day ends in an hour. Sorry for any spelling or grammar mistakes.

It is Easter morning, the sun shining, the sound of chirping birds is faint but audible as you and Ellie eat breakfast in the kitchen, talking about your plans for the day.

"Soo… what do you want to do today?" Ellie turns to you, piercing her fork through her syrup drenched pancakes.

"I was thinking we could take Amelia to the Easter egg hunt, the one up at the park.” You and Ellie were never the church going, religious type. Sure you had both grown up Christian and would often say you were if someone asked. But church at 7:30am on a Sunday? You often heard Ellie say that Sundays are lazy days for the family, reserved for sleeping in, cuddling on the couch and movies with your daughter, not for waking up before the sun has even risen. For that reason the three of you had skipped out on church this morning, instead sleeping in until 10:30.

"That sounds like fun," Ellie agrees. “Maybe we could have a picnic afterwards?”

"That's a great idea my love,” you say. "I'll pack some sandwiches and snacks."

As you finish breakfast, Amelia comes running into the kitchen, eager to start the day. "Good morning, Mommy and Mama!" she runs up and hugs your legs before running over to Ellie.

"Good morning little spud,” Ellie smiles, hugging her daughter. “You excited for Easter?"

"Yes!" Amelia bounces up and down on her heels. "Can we go find eggs nowwww?"

“Of course,” You say, smiling. “Let's get ready to go, and don’t forget your socks Mia!” You shout playfully as she bounds up the stairs to her room.

After you’re all dressed, you head to the park. As you walk, Ellie starts talking about her favorite Easter traditions.

"I always loved decorating eggs when I was a kid. Joel would be trying to do intricate designs but I preferred to just dunk the things making them look like dinosaur eggs.“ Ellie laughs. "Did you dye eggs, y/n?”

"I did," You reply. "But my favorite part was always the Easter baskets. My mom would overfill them with candy. Remember when I would come to your house the day after, begging you to take some of it so I wouldn’t get sick?”

"I remember that," Ellie says, laughing. "You always had the best candy though.”

When you arrive at the park, your daughters eyes widen at the sight of the colorful eggs scattered throughout the grass. She eagerly joins the other children in the hunt, scooping up as many eggs as she can find.

After the egg hunt, Ellie spreads out a blanket for your picnic. As you eat your sandwiches and fruit, Amelia shows you and Ellie the toys and candy she had found in her eggs.

"This is nice," You say, looking around at the beautiful spring day. "I'm glad we get to spend time together, as a family.”

"Me too," Ellie agrees, taking your hand. "It's moments like these that make life worth living." You lay your head on her shoulder, smiling as you both watch Amelia run around, trying to fly a kite she had found during the egg hunt.

As you all pack up your picnic and head home, Amelia falls asleep in the stroller you had brought, exhausted from the excitement of the day. Ellie and you exchange a look of contentment, grateful for the love and joy you shared as a family.

"I love you," You say, leaning over to kiss Ellie.

"I love you too," Ellie replies, smiling softly. "Happy Easter babe.”

okay. im going to talk about the fnaf movie.

SPOILERS UNDER READ MORE!!!

overall, i thought it was very good. somehow making a whole series of a video game condensed into 1.5 hrs is not something easy to do. i think with what they were working with, they executed it pretty well. costume design was superb, and the acting from josh hutcherson was amazing.

that being said, i did find some scenes didn't belong. for example the fort scene, though i'm sure many people have pointed that out already.

i felt like they were trying to tow the line between silly/cute and scary/suspenseful, but in my opinion i don't think they needed to do that? i think if they leaned in fully to the horror aspect it would have still been a very enjoyable experience.

the scenes with vanessa disappointed me, just a bit. it felt like she was only there to progress the story/exposition. and the fucking fort scene with her... in that scene, vanessa is like "oh freddy fazbears' is so fun yayayayay" and then literally in the next scene she's telling mike "if you ever come back here IM GOING TO SHOOT YOU" ???????????? like why? what did mike even do?

the old bf made an observation that william afton was just straight up not fleshed out, at least not as much as either one of us had hoped.

i personally think if they had just included like... a 5 minute scene of william afton on his killing spree (without outright showing william afton), it would have done alot for his character. i felt like he was just kind of thrown in there towards the end, which makes me sad bc william afton is such a unique character with sooo much backstory integral to the lore of fnaf, and it just felt like he was alluded to the whole movie? idk.

there were some questionable moments. it was funny how freddy literally just murders the aunt and no one even questions it? mike would have come home to a literal corpse in his house, how does he explain that to the police?

and it made me sad how little they showed of foxy. :( foxy is my all time favorite (i literally brought a giant stuffed foxy plush with me to the movie) and it felt like he was the most forgotten animatronic. bonnie seemed to be the main center of attention tbh, he was in almost every scene where the animatronics were. but it makes sense since scott cawthon thinks bonnie is the creepiest animatronic lol.

those are my main criticisms.

but i still loved it, very much so!

when the matpat cameo came on screen... it was a shocker. i gasped so loud. the people in the movie theater literally laughed at me lol bc i gasped SO LOUD, I COULDNT HELP IT i was so shocked. AND WHEN HE SAID ITS ONLY A THEORY???? i ate it up. idc if it's cheesy, I ATE IT UP.

also i thought it was cool that the movie is (i think but could be wrong) five nights long! a little easter egg that i thought was neat. the old bf pointed this out to me.

another nice touch is in the beginning of the movie when mike is reading that dream theory book. a good callback to matpat's dream theory on fnaf (you know the one). and it's also a good way to tie in what's currently happening to mike with his dreams in the movie.

i really appreciated the subtle little ways they tied in the movie with the games, like the little "it's me" in the mirror during the scene with mike in the security room. and foxy's humming!!!! i loved it i loved it i loved it! the little noises they used from the game made me so happy!

but yeah. i'll stop ranting bc i can go on forever lol. while it had it's flaws, i don't think they affected the overarching storyline.

this is it my gamers. eight years in the making, and this is the end result.

my score? 4 cupcakes out of 5. :>

Honest to God I loved every moment.. but if you're super attached to the game lore then maybe curb ur expectations? There's a good bit of changes, but I didn't mind any of them. If anything, I found them refreshing! It was a new take on the story and I rly liked it! So just remind urself beforehand that this is its own thing, separate from the games, and I think you'll enjoy it for sure. The theater actually clapped lmao?? It was a fun crowd. The actors were great, tho the cop character was kinda annoying. And I kinda wish there had been more jumpscares? Like there were some don't get me wrong, but not as many as I thought.

But oh my god... The animatronics........ Like holy shit they looked SO GOOD !!!! STRAIGHT out of the game like even the stills dont do them justice. Seeing them in motion was crazy.. when they aren't all angy mode I think theyre kinda cute idk. The set was also sooo great, so many little easter eggs. SOOO much fan service with the details. AND OH GOD THE SPRINGTRAP SUIT AAAAAAAAAA ITS SO COOOL.. I WISH IT HAD GOTTEN MORE SCREENTIME!!!

as someone who reads the comics this movie was SOOOO GOOD like it was fan servicey in terms of easter eggs but they worked like they served the plot so it wasnt some sort of bad cameo or anything like it worked and it just made me go all >:D as someone who actually reads the comics

just little things like directly naming the different universes, or even directly talking about “ASM 90” (HE SAID “ASM” NOT EVEN AMAZING SPIDERMAN! HE SAID ASM!!! :DDD) and the discussion of canon events and breaking the canon. and then even little little details like when a character said something and then a little 2D popup would appear in the corner with the asterisk explaining what it is, like meta author comments in the comics

all the different comic references, they had fucking ben reilly there in his ugly 90s art glory, and as someone who suffered through some ben comics for venom’s sake, that shit made me hysterical. ans even beyond the comics the inclusion of the different movies even like THEY EVEN HAD MRS CHEN FROM VENOM 2018??? THAT MADE ME DIE !!!

i saw the movie w my two friends who dont read the comics and so they said it felt a bit too forced but like idk. Im living. and honestly i feel like if your movie’s plot is literally about the spiderpeople multiverse colliding then i really dont know how you can even do that type of plot without these easter eggs because its literally all ABOUT the different universes as seen in the comics. so idk i felt like they were great easter eggs that served the plot and the whole idea of the spiderverse, without being gimmicky and stupid, but maybe this is the first time where fan service has actually served me directly and im too caught up in the hype of it, IDK, BUT IT WAS SOOO FUN

Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness Review

welp, this is my first post on Tumblr and I thought it's quite fitting to post DS:MoM with how unique..... and strange (no pun intended) it was!

so for the other poor souls who are getting spoiled left and right by unaware tumblers and/or aware ones:

if you have seen it or don't plan to see it (you don't care about spoilers), then this post is for YOU!

uhm.... how our Wanda went from "I never meant for this to happen" to proceeds to decimate countless people without hesitation?

I mean, I remember the last scene of Wandavision and her using the Darkhold book but to me that was more like "shit, she is learning forbidden magic and it may allow her powers to increase and grow out of control" rather than losing her mind and creating mass destruction!

some said that Darkhold and it's potential was explained in Agents of Shield? so yeah, for those who have seen it might be less shocking to see her acting like this.

me? to be honest, I didn't expect it at all. No, NOT her going against Dr.strange, I meant the way she acted and talked. I don't remember WandaVision much but Agatha didn't seem.... out of control? maybe having been a Witch for a long time didn't impact her much unlike Wanda who was going through trauma and maybeee it allowed Darkhold to control her more than she could control the book?

overall, the first 30 minutes where we see her did take me out of the movie because of the way she talked and acted and this comes from someone who has seen trailer Easter eggs and breakdowns so I knew what kind of plot the movie was heading. maybe Raimi's and Waldron's styles effected her characterization? (I think it definitely did). because she IS powerful, we know that by the comics and the movies but the thing is, her getting mentally out of control, not listening to good reasons AT ALL tells me that there was a story that happened off-screen and it happened and us audience didn't get to see it (MCU pulled the same shit on professor Hulk) so excuse me for being shook when Wanda talks in the first 30 minutes.

I hope there is a director cut for DVD release because I think some of the sites said that the movie was supposed to be more than 2h and 30m??

I really liked the horror elements, the soundtrack kinda reminded me of those 90s/2000s teenage witch movies??

but again, to be honest, some camera shots and scene cuts kinda took me out of the movie, NOT in a bad way. it's really MCU's fault, I have to say, because 90% of MCU movies felt the same to me. the famous marvel formula that you hear often when it comes to criticizing its movies.

This movie??? it didn't feel a marvel/Disney movie to me that much, I felt like it was made by a different company and it's sooo funny because I watched Raimi's spider-man trilogy when I was a child (I didn't know who the guy even was until a year ago) and I didn't even see Evil Dead!!! (just some scenes here and there from YouTube) but to me, this is the most evil dead vibe in a non-evil dead movie that I have ever seen! XD

anyways, I rate it 7 out of 10 (sometimes it gets 6.5 out of 10) for its boldness, strangeness, for its nostalgia (even for movies I have never seen) and its use of horror and gore (which MCU desperately needs if they want to introduce Deadpool and Xmen).

I took 3 points out of it for the lack of "Wanda's path to this level of evil" plot that was taken from audience

for cutting the movie to 2h (I felt it, they tried their best to hold the plot together with the short time and the events that kept happening BUT the ending was kinda rushed)

and for the appearance of Illuminati (I didn't read ANY Illuminati comics but gods! they were useless! I know Wanda is goddamn powerful, even his son, Billy but come on! all six of them are not some minor superheroes and I'm not saying they shouldn't have died but they definitely should have lasted much longer, held more against her! so to me, it came off as if they were a bunch of over-confident jerks that not only lacked skills to do their jobs but also rise questions such as "how did Illuminati last this long???" and I'm really sorry if anyone was a fan of this group and was hyped up for their appearance :/

my swiftie origin story:

as taylor would release albums i would listen to the popular songs (i.e. i knew you were trouble, love story, bad blood, etc.) but was never a full on fan (never listened to her entire albums).

growing up i had a lot of internalized misogyny. i was also young (i am just 20 now), so my little brain was easily influenced by others and social media. all of this led to me believing that taylor swift was someone who only wrote songs about her exes, was an attention-seeker, and was fake. i never spread hate or attacked her character in everyday life; this is just what i thought

well, last year, taylor released miss americana on netflix and i watched it bc i was bored and couldn’t find anything else to watch. this documentary made me aware of this internalized misogyny and unnecessary dislike. the movie made me realize that i have little reason to hate any celebrities (except a select few whose actions deserve criticism). miss americana made me so sad to see all the pain and suffering taylor went through as a result of ignorance from people like me. after watching miss americana i forever changed my perception of taylor swift.

in june, taylor released folklore. i heard a little about this happening and saw the album on spotify but never listened to it. i didn’t know what kind of music it was. my preferred genre of music at the time was indie and alternative. in september i was searching for new music and came across cardigan. i had heard the song a few times before but (1) didn’t register it was a taylor swift song and (2) didn’t pay enough attention to the song. so i listened to cardigan and realized how much i liked it. this then made me question why i hadn’t already listened to any of the songs off of the album. so i made the decision to put aside an hour to listen to folklore. masterpiece. after. masterpiece. i quickly became obsessed with the album (it is still my favourite taylor swift album)

over the next few months i only listened to folklore from taylor’s discography. i followed her on all socials, watched a few interviews for folklore and folklore: long pond studio session.

in december, taylor announced evermore. i was so excited to hear that my favourite album was going to have a sister album. needless to say, the album was amazing and i fell in love with it as well.

in february, i was bored with music so i decided to listen to lover. long story short: OBSESSED. the album was so good!! this was definitely the tipping point for my transformation into a swiftie. i listened to lover for three weeks in order to give myself a good amount of time to fully appreciate/experience the album.

after listening to lover, i made the decision to gradually listen to taylor swift’s entire discography. i planned to give myself 2-4 weeks in between each album so that i could properly appreciate each one. my intention was to listen to the albums in a backwards order (lover, reputation, 1989, red, speak now, fearless, debut); however, i decided to move fearless so that i could listen to it the first time on it’s re-release weekend. i also moved speak now ahead of red due to the overwhelming love for it that i witnessed in the swiftie community.

throughout this year i have attempted to fully educate/integrate myself in the swiftie fandom. i have watched countless videos/interviews on youtube, i have created stan accounts on twitter, tiktok, and (now) tumblr, and i have cried when she won AOTY and performed at the grammys. i know all the theories, relationships/friendships/enemies, and have even participated in many clown attempts at analyzing “easter eggs”.

i love taylor so much. i have so much regret for not having spent my childhood apart of the swifite fandom. it is my biggest regret in life.

I’m mad the short claims to be 10 min long but it’s really only like 5/6 min long with the rest of the time being credits! I thought it was gonna be like Olaf’s Frozen Adventure length by how much promo/commercials there were of it on YouTube & in my Disney emails lol... I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it though!

I saw on insta this morning that it was only 7 minutes, so I wasn’t surprised (I wasn’t sure how long it was going to be beforehand)

Here’s my thoughts:

I hate LIG so watching that again was bleh but at least it was only a minute

I was wondering if Olaf was going to stick around and watch since he did the hip shake in F2 (implying that he did) but I LOVE him getting hit by the cape and falling down the mountain

I was laughing basically the entire time. I love Olaf, Josh Gad does a great job with him every time

(the times I was not laughing were basically hearing Kristoff’s voice lol)

It’s been speculated basically since the movie came out that Anna traded her coronation dress for her winter outfit, so it’s nice to see that’s canon now. Wish it had been a scene in the actual movie but whatever, it only took 7 years to fix it.

It’s hilarious that when Olaf says he doesn’t have any money, suddenly Oaken is ready to help him, even tho he was deliberately price gouging during a crisis when he was talking to Kristoff like 10 minutes ago. Literally one of the only times I LIKE Kristoff in the og movie is when he calls Oaken a crook, bc he’s right. I don’t like Oaken at all.

The inclusion of a stereoscope seems odd. I know it’s a way to get Olaf thinking about summer but still. Since it looks like a Holmes stereoscope, that pushes the timeline into the 1860s, not the 1840s like was originally claimed. F2 also did this with the inclusion of the Little Mermaid easter egg, but I guess it’s definitely canon now. This lines up with my previous calculation of Frozen actually happening in 1868 (based on F2).

I actually really like when things are shown from different angles, so it was interesting to see this “happening” in the bg of the original movie. I think they did a pretty good job with not interfering with canon. The hardest to swallow was the wolves meeting up with the sled but that scene was pretty zoomed in sooo I guess it’s fine

All in all, I liked it! Olaf’s one of the things I really like about the franchise so I don’t mind him getting focus. I wish he wasn’t ugly as sin tho.

What I think was the perfect amount of human to monster screen time for a Godzilla movie (fuck the critics with the ‘too much godzilla not enough humans’ because A) that’s what we came here for and B) LAST TIME YOU SAID ‘NOT ENOUGH GODZILLA TOO MUCH HUMANS’ MAKE UP YOUR MINDS PEOPLE)

what human characters were there didn’t feel at all boring or like they were dragging the film down (I actually like all of them I can’t think of one I disliked tbh)

My favs are of course Serizawa, Jonah and Dad Russel (also Dr Chen and the nervous energy Sam Coleman) of the humans.

I love all these human scientists and their back and forth, glad they got the main man Serizawa back from 2014

Can I just say it’s really really cool to see these monsters brought to life in this way, like no shade to the originals at all I’m just so fucking hype to see it all like this ITS GREAT a someone who’s pretty much a baby godzilla fan.

Endgame review(ish) LOTS OF SPOILERS

I saw it 2 days ago but needed some time to wrap my head around this one. I have never described a movie as a masterpiece before but this definitely hits all my boxes.

What I liked/loved:

•Watching Thanos die twice in one movie was an honor and a damned privilege.

•Tony and Nebula having a friendship & Carol rescuing them

•Pepperony’s reunion ❤️

•After we jumped ahead 5 years and Scott gets reunited with teenage Cassie. That made me tear up. If they ever do another Ant Man movie it’ll be great to see Cassie old enough to have a bigger role

•Seeing Nat crying and showcasing how much Steve and her have such a great relationship plus Carol’s new bad ass ‘do.

•SEEING PEPPERONY’S NEW LIFE! MORGAN STARK! DAD TONY!

•Tony knowing in the end there’s no way he won’t help. It’s just not in his DNA and insisting nothing changes from the last 5 years

Clint’s reaction had me bawling as well as everyone else. I’m not a Bruce/Natasha shipper at all but still. It was a very hard scene to sit through with the whole theater sniffling behind me since I was in the front row. (Side note: LOVED Natasha’s blond/red hair. It was really pretty on her)

•Dr. Hulk taking one for the team by wearing the infinity gauntlet. After Nat’s death I really think there may have been a small part of him that wouldn’t have minded joining her. I was happy to see him make it though

•Nebula getting through to past!Gamora and taking past!Neb down

•Tony finding Steve and calling him “my guy” GOD DAMN DID I MISS THAT FRIENDSHIP

•Thor doing that lightening clothing transformation thing and having both weapons

•Everyone teaming up to kill Thanos (again)

•STEVE BEING WORTHY & SUMMONING LIGHTNING MY GODDDDD THAT WAS HOT (the entire theatre erupted in cheers when he was standing there with his shield and Mjolnir. The scene was even cooler in 3D) Thor smiling when he saw all this and saying “I knew it”

•Steve preparing to face Thanos and his whole army by himself and then all these portals pop up and IT’S EVERYONE. Again the entire theatre were on our feet clapping, cheering and laughing with joy the second the Wakandians came into view. Best. Scene. Ever.

•Pepper! In! A! Suit! Again!

•Peter and Tony’s reunion! Peter talking a mile a minute and Tony being so emotional he just hugged him. Fuck, man. Right in the feels indeed

•All female heroes teaming up

•Wanda being enraged at Thanos and his royal grape ness being scared of her power as well as Carol’s when she showed up

•The Entire fucking battle. The mini reunions. I could sit here and go on for ages about it. This battle scene pretty much was one of the best ones I’ve ever seen in any movie/tv show ever.

•Tony realizing what Dr. Strange meant when he said “if I told you what had to happen it wouldn’t happen” and the look that passed between them. Stephen looking at him with sorrow.

•Tony, knowing it was gonna kill him, putting the gauntlet on anyway.

•Again watching Thanos lose everything he loved to disintegration like our heroes did and realize he’s lost to the Avengers again then die himself. I don’t think I’ve ever hated a movie villain more than him to date.

•Tony’s death. At this point I was back to trying not to sob out loud in front of a bunch of strangers. Peter’s reaction is what got me going. Pepper’s as well as the rest of the OG Avengers who had been with Tony the longest. Rhodey crying and pulling Peter away. Just writing this now I’ve got tears in my eyes.

•Pepper telling Tony it was okay to go and she and Morgan would be fine

•The funeral. The grown up kid from Iron Man 3 being there. Aunt May and Peter. Sending that wreath out onto the lake. It was a stunning scene. Happy talking to Morgan.

• “I love you 3000”

•Old man!Steve. Look, I do not care what plot holes it creates. This movie was too well done to let stupid technicalities bug me. As a loooong time Steggy shipper I’m so happy he got to live where he wanted to live back in the 40’s with the love of his life. I’m thrilled Peggy got the love of hers. I don’t care that it destroys the Agent Carter show. It got canceled anyway so I just do not care. Nor do I care about whoever Peggy’s husband ended up being (it was Daniel from AC, I think) getting erased. The two of them pined for each other for so long I think it was beautifully done in the end. I wish we’d gotten to know how many kids Steggy had but 🤷‍♀️. Bucky was still Bucky. No, Steve didn’t kiss his niece if you listened to Bruce’s explanation but people are being stupidly stubborn on that bit. Steve has been my ride or die hero since his original movie in the MCU. I was terrified he was gonna die in sacrifice. I hate, HATE that it was Tony but I’m a little relieved at the same time, I won’t lie. I’d like to think Steve and Peggy were around for baby!tony. Maybe they were Aunt Peggy and Uncle Steve to him.

•Scott, Hope and Cassie mini family

•Clint happily reuniting with his family

•Ned and Peter reuniting

•SAM! BEING! PASSED! THE! CAPTAIN! AMERICA! MANTLE! I cannot wait for Bucky & Sam’s tv series.

•The film closing out with dancing Steve and Peggy happily in love.

What I did not like/hated:

•Loki surviving. I just hate him. Obviously he was going to given he is getting his own show too but Christ on a cracker

•Both Tony and Natasha’s deaths. I know why they happened but it still really really sucks to lose any of the team for any reason. Seeing the Tony stans super upset has been very hard even if we all knew it was gonna be Steve or Tony dying. It’s one thing to know it and then another to actually see it play out

•Clint’s family dissolving? 😭😭 Yes, we knew it was gonna happen but watching it suuuucked

•Not showing the Aunt May/Peter reunion. She had to live 5 years without him after all.

•Not getting to see Carol and Nick interact or reunite.

•Not getting to see Maria’s reaction to Natasha’s death (I know there was only so much time and these reunions are just splitting hairs but I would have liked to see them)

•Not enough Pepperony!Parents scenes. (Again, splitting hairs here, lol)

Over all:

A++++++++

I didn’t go into this movie with expectations in case it was a disappointment. Needless to say it was NOT a disappointment in the least. It was a beautifully done film. The cinematography was stunning. I laughed, cheered, was kept in suspense and definitely cried. Which is not easy to get me to do. I will miss Tony and Pepperony every day but I also cannot wait to see Wanda get Vision back in their series. However that happens nor the Bucky/Sam team up. I think I hit all the major points (I hope). I intend to go see the movie again next week. The Russo Brothers did a wonderful job honoring 11 years worth of movies and the fans who have been here since 2008. A lot is storylines were paid off and the like. Just amazing. So, Endgame.

To a friend of mine who's up for watching it this week (@srzei), you'd enjoy it but I would recommend having your MCU Easter egg catcher ready as well.

Also, Stan Lee's final cameo is sooo well hidden and well done, you'd be clapping too.

But, as a tweet by RDJ said, the last few minutes are actually one whole sequence worth watching, for it really does become a partial feels trip.

Personally, I think the fact that speculators were saying of a tie-in to AoU (the previous Avengers title prior to Infinity War) was something I too caught on, as the tie-in brings in not one, BUT two moments!

To the rest watching Endgame, honestly tho it was worth the 10 year haul since the OG Iron Man, and it'll be due time when all of us fans are pulling a Star Wars (I've seen context of that on IG, somewhere).

The movie meanwhile, on a closing note, for sure does Chris Evans the greater good imo.

You can tell they really did end it on a good note for him, once you get to that one part of the movie.

As someone who was a die hard MCU fan, I guess Phase 4 may as well be something worth waiting for.

I just got back from seeing Captain Marvel, y’all, and OMG! I was reeeeally hoping against hope that it would be good, and, though I might need another go to dub it fantastic, I was so f*cking impressed! 

Spoiler-free, the visuals are stunning, the performances were excellent, plenty of easter eggs to be had, and I found myself smiling as I left the theater. I even got verklempt a few times...and that’s hard for a movie to do to me.

Sony’s Akiva Goldsman’s Nikolaj Arcel’s Stephen King’s The Dark Tower

When people ask me what are my favorite book(s): Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower' series is high on my list.  I was introduced into it with obviously, 'The Gunslinger,' around 2008-ish.  Didn't finish reading the series until fall 2010.  Right after the last sentence of 'The Dark Tower,' I was not only an avid constant reader - but it inspired me to write stories.  You see, the series not only opened my eyes to the imaginative world of creating different worlds, but also blending genres together, and mashing up characters from other pieces of work into the mix...building this vast 'verse.  

As I was re-reading the books recently, I caught references I didn't notice the first time around.  I also kept on picturing a TV show, like 'Game of Thrones,' as adaptation to the series. Unfortunately, the fans [constant readers, like me] will not get such a thing.  Instead - we have a film just unleashed to the masses that has earned just under 20% worth of bad reviews, and will most likely bomb at the box office (though I do believe it will earn some income - especially in the state of Maine).  

I could be one of those snubs that will bitch about every little detail (Roland isn't black, blah-blah-blah), nitpick about the runtime, or completely write off the movie before making the attempt to actually see it.   Instead, I did something I don't normally do.  Ready for this?!?  I set my expectations real low (but not as low as an low-man, get it - HAHA!)  I turned off my brain and my 'what the fuck' radar.  And I went into the theater knowing exactly what I was getting myself into. Coincidentally, I had a similar experience last year at this time - when I picked myself up a copy of 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.'  I knew it wasn't going to measure up.  I knew it wouldn't be as polished.  And the end result - very well done fan-fiction for what it was worth.

'The Dark Tower' film is not a straight adaptation of 'The Gunslinger,' or its sequels - but rather a sequel of sorts to the series, while borrowing elements from 'The Gunslinger,' 'The Waste Lands,' and 'Wolves of Calla' - with sprinkled references to other parts of series - on-top of some clever Easter-eggs from King's body of work ('The Shining' being a heavy contributor).  That itself will divide what little audience it will get this weekend.  Some will hate it.  Some will admire it.  Some will cringe.   I did all three while watching the film.

THE GOOD:

There were some damn great shots scattered throughout the film.  The tower itself looked as grand as my imagination of it.   The cast was solid (I had no problem with a black Roland - he harnessed the character well).  I even enjoyed the 'alright, alright, alright' Lincoln car salesman's approach of the Walkin' Dude, ahem, Man in Black. 

THE BAD:

While there were some great looking shots and settings, there were moments in the film that looked real cheap.  It's almost as if they went more grander of scale than they could afford.   Keep it simple, man.  The charm of the first Dark Tower book, 'The Gunslinger,' lies in the simplicity of it.  If you are going to introduce an entire universe to the film audience - don't make it anymore complicated than it needs to be.  Every studio (and their greedy share-holders) wants to duplicate Marvel/Disney's success of a cinematic 'verse.   The beauty of it is nine years ago, the 'verse was introduced to a small-scale (especially these days) 'Iron Man.'   It was simple, and it worked.  

I can understand the frustration of the critics when it comes to this film - there is so much shit crammed into it, and for no reason whatsoever.  And though I admired the efforts of cherry-picking elements through-out the series - it's the main reason why one of my favorites, Steven Spielberg, didn't succeed in winning the heart of J.K. Rowling.  The first attempt at a Harry Potter film - he had the idea of combining elements from all the books into one film (similar to 'Mary Poppins.')  I am sure going that route, it would have earned some money - maybe some fans.  But it would've been a magical cluster-fuck, and wouldn't have been revered like the Potter films that exist today.

And just think, we 'almost' had that with 'The Dark Tower.'

THE UGLY:

The film was supposed to be released January of this year.  It was held back to fix some of the CGI.  It was later reported that the film had production problems.  Watching the film, I don't really sense any continuity issues (which usually is presented quite apparent when there is production issues, i.e. 'Fantastic Four' and 'Suicide Squad.')  

But for a film that was held back for eight months - the studio could've polished the CGI a little better.  That is my biggest gripe about the film - the CGI looks as phony as a Sci-FI channel original movie.   In fact - the show, 'Once Upon a Time' came to my mind as I was dumb-founded over some of the effects.  

SOOO...:

Was I disappointed?  Was I surprised?  Did I enjoy it?  Well  - a mixture of all of that.  I certainly didn't hate it.  I also didn't love it.  And you know what - I wanted to both hate it for the liberties it took, but I also wanted to love it because I cherish the series it's based off.  In the end - wasn't as bad as I was led to believe. Don’t be discouraged, constant readers.  It's no 'Shawshank,' 'Green Mile,' 'Carrie,' 'Misery,' 'Shining.'  It's also not an 'Lawnmower Man,' 'Riding the Bullet,' 'A Good Marriage,' 'Graveyard Shift,' or 'Under the Dome.'

It's somewhere in the middle, which was probably Ka's doing.  We could've gotten an HBO series.  Instead - we got this film, that's neither pleasant or evil.

What time do you wake up most mornings? Honestly, ever since I’ve been out of school I have been sleeping in until like 10:30am and it has been absolutely wonderful. 

Do you enjoy your job? If unemployed, are you content being so? I absolutely love my job. It is by far my favourite job that I’ve ever had and sometimes it doesn’t even feel like work. It just feels like I get to hang out with my friends and get paid for it. 

What is something you have given a lot of thought to lately? My applications. 

Do you have any tattoos? Do you want any/more? I have my one little Death Cab tribute tattoo on my left inside wrist. I can think of some hypothetical tattoos that I like to daydream about but I don’t know if the motivation is strong enough to actually go back and get more. Plus I’m scared of the pain. 

What is your favourite Christmas movie? Chevy Chase Christmas Vacation. Duh. 

What do you get complimented on the most? My eye colour or oddly enough my butt. 

If money was no object, where would you move to? Vancouver or Victoria. 

Do you believe in soul mates? No. The idea is too limiting for me, and that makes it terrifying. What if you let your soul mate go? What if it doesn’t work out?  

If you could wake up tomorrow and be fluent in 3 additional languages, which would you choose? French, Japanese, and OooOoohohoo I don’t even know. Maybe Arabic because I feel like that would allow me to understand a lot of the news better.

If you found out that your ex was having a child with someone else, how would you feel about that? It would honestly probably make me feel relieved because that is not something I’d want for myself at ALL so I’d feel more solidified in knowing we don’t belong together at all.

I don’t see or speak to this person because I broke it off with him to get back together with someone else like two years ago and it was super lame of me, and he is now very happy with a new partner and he deserves that happiness and she’s not my biggest fan so I just sort of try to fuck off and silently curse myself for making that mistake. 

On a scale of 1 to 10, how happy are you with your life? Why? 8. I’m just very grateful for what I have and what is coming up in my life.

What do you remember about your first kiss? I was on cloud NINE after it happened and I couldn’t stop smiling or thinking about him. It was at a skating rink. It was anticipated throughout the whole day and I couldn’t wait. The guy was a cutie pie.
