I don't know what the bubble these three characters together fit in my head is called but they're there.

(The first picture is the same character, there was an art style change. The one of the left is from the first volume and the one on the right is from I think one of the last volumes. I just love both of them lol.)

I'm back into COD and I was thinking...what if it was crossed over with Ajin Demi Human? I think I'm cooking with this concept! Umm, to explain, Ajin are immortal basically, but you have to actually die in order to discover that. So if we combine that with sad COD character deaths... YES I'M COOKING HERE! An extra detail is that you also get a little creature you can control that can fight. Each is unique, so I can't really explain them because they're all specific to their creators. But with the main character of Ajin Demi Human, he dies a bunch and learns how to control it (kind of).

And just yeah. It'd work! Plus maybe go watch that anime/or the read the manga. Just 'cause it's underrated.

Uh I gotta draw some art for this sometime.

Oh and the creatures aren't cute. At all. Big scary monsters :) Google them ;)

Omg that Death Note fanart took me back—it rly is sad his sister is not much of a presence in the story but it’s sooooo striking that the one time he has a real genuine emotional reaction to something is about her being in danger like hello………I always found it such a fascinating and weirdly not talked about aspect of it

if i i had a nickel for every time there was a highly intelligent loner anime male main character, intent on bettering the world for the sake of his sister and "discovers" a life-changing ability, voiced by mamoru miyano, i'd have 2 nickels. which isn't a lot but golly it's interesting it happened twice... that i know of!

yeah it's been pretty much decades since i watched death note so i dont remember light's sister at all, but i think, even if it's a bit disingenuous, the fact he did say he wanted to make a better world for her, was pretty cute!! (at least i thought he said that) i didnt watch past a certain someone's death so i dont think i remember sayu's kidnapping but wow, i'm glad light still showed he cared about her.

Saddest thing ever is reading an academic paper about a threatened or declining species where you can tell the author is really trying to come up with ways the animal could hypothetically be useful to humans in a desperate attempt to get someone to care. I may be out of the loop a little but what's an Ajin? Is it like spooky guardian angel situation?

ajin is the name of a type of immortal who when they die but comes back. when they die they immediately regenerate to the “original state,” they do this through black matter in their bodies which can be manifested into those spooky guardian angels for combative purposes (they’re called black ghosts)

ajins also don’t know they’re ajins until they “die” and don’t manifests their black ghosts until that happens either—so with the au, soap avoided death all his life till makarov, who succeeded in killing soap, which brought upon the realisation!

Grace Field Poll: I was glad to see how well Don & Emma and Gilda & Ray were doing on the Grace Field poll. ;w; Both feel the most criminal to me given how big of a role Don and Gilda play in the series, but ultimately I went with Gilda & Ray because I couldn't think of any moment for them that was equivalent to Don being the first of the larger group of kids to voice his support for Emma's plan:

Episode 10 also nixes the scene of Don and Gilda privately conversing in the woods in chapter 31 and instead has Ray apologizing to Don and Gilda directly rather than just Emma, which is made even more poignant when you consider how strongly he reacted to Emma and Norman giving them false hope about still being able to save Conny in chapter 11/episode 4.

He's not even trying to feign the distance he self-imposed between them in his mind at this point. He's genuinely sorry for failing them for their own sakes, not as extra able bodies who could assist Emma and Norman outside the wall. And it's a genuinely distressing sight for the two of them, seeing him at his lowest point after everything he sacrificed for this plan.

To have her then knowingly hum and hold that look of fondness for him when she sees how shocked is, after years of believing a better outcome was impossible, and how worried he is, because try as he might to keep the other children at arm's length mentally there's a way Ray frets over and looks after them that is reminiscent of Gilda's own (they are united in being the Mom Friends™ of the escapees 🤝), is such a sweet, gentle kindness that they didn't have to include but I'm very glad they did.

Goldy Pond Poll: Emma & Oliver has always felt like one of the most pertinent dynamics to come out of Goldy Pond alongside Emma & Violet with the amount of focus each are given individually as effectively the leaders of the Grace Field escapees and Goldy Pond kids, respectively, and together. The latter is significantly less, unfortunately, but Oliver usually acts as Emma's point person when she needs to confer information/plans and Norman and Ray won't work for the situation because symbolically the scene calls for a representation of larger group cohesion with the kids she didn't grow up with.

Also, after losing so many older siblings at Grace Field and becoming the big sister/leader of them, it's nice to have her regain that kind of relationship with any of the Goldy Pond group; Oliver just happens to have more panels dedicated to it lol

(Chapter 122; this moment is so minuscule, but again we have Oliver acting in a leader role and Emma using him as a point of reference to confirm that taking it easy in this new place is wise and safe for everyone. If even Oliver thinks it's okay to act like this—to say nothing of the way he tells her so gently and in so few words—then she can rest a little more soundly.)

The way she's staring at Mujika in rapt attention, left hand grabbing for hers while she holds her right in front of her chest to show how animated she is in the conversation, either because she's gesturing to herself or is at a loss for words in the the excitement of the moment or because the adrenaline from the skirmish with Hayato and Jin is wearing off and trying to will the words to spill forth.

It's been months since she's been able to hold a conversation with anyone in the language her father passed down to her because he believed it was something worth preserving of his culture from a millennia ago, so to be able to have that back with someone as kind and graciously loving as Mujika is something special.

(Ajin (亜人, Demi-Human) are the titular species of the series. Ajin look exactly like normal people, with the only things separating them from other humans being the fact they can generate Invisible Black Matter, or IBM, within their bodies, making them immortal.)

(Ajins also possess the ability to manifest themselves into Black Ghosts. Black Ghosts and IBM are different in the sense that all Ajins possess IBM, but not all of them can manifest a Black Ghost. These Ghosts are made up of IBM and normally have a humanoid form but can have inhuman characteristics, standing at about over two meters tall. Each Ajin can manifest a unique Black Ghost. Ghosts are usually used for combat purposes, but they can also be utilized in other ways if their hosts know how to control them properly)

One day, while the reader and the men are walking home, they got attacked by devils and unfortunately, the reader was killed, caused them to be devastated but after a while, her carcasses start manifesting into her old self again, she then have to explain what she was and how did she not die. She found out she had this ability due to an accident that was supposed to kill her years prior dating them but she revived. However, she had to go into hiding because Ajins are hunted by other people due to their nature and abilities.

Plus point if the reader used to work in the army, and kind of unhinged in a way.

Ex: In the manga, the antagonist fooled the SWATS by making them think he is dead, but then rose back up when they got near, and started firing bullets at them

¤ Dante ¤

-Everything was fine with your lives until one night, when you and Dante were walking home, a group of demons ambushed the two of you, targeting you in particular. While Dante tried his best, he just could get to you in time. The demons had done too much damage, shredding you apart before he could finish them all off.

-Dante was in shambles from that night on, not bothering to eat or drink, or do anything except mope around in Devil May Cry. Then on morning, there was a knock on the door, and a familiar voice called out for him to open it.

-Dante thought he was hallucinating your existence, but nope! There you were, seemingly good as new. Naturally, Dante's first instinct was to throw his arms around you and sob, demanding answers and begging for you never to die again all at the same time.

-Eventually he calmed down and you were able to explain that you were alive due to a dormant ability you had been hiding for yours. Said ability revived you many years ago, before you met Dante, when you were fatally injured in an accident. You were an Ajin, a demi human with supernatural abilities.

-You were pretty powerful too; being able to change into a Black Ghost, which really impressed Dante.

-After all, you were now taller than he was, which meant you could give him piggyback rides, which meant fun!

-Also, the IBM constantly being produced within your body meant you would never die, meaning neither of you would have to suffer like the way you did that night ever again.

■ Vergil ■

-One would think that with Vergil's superior demon-hunting prowess, he'd be able to detect the demons before they attacked. Unfortunately, it seemed Vergil's sharp senses chose to desert him right when he needed them the most.

-Watching you die was the most painful thing Vergil ever endured in his life, and that's saying something since he'd survived all manner of horrible situations.

-Vergil isolated himself for a long time, just wandering around the way he used to when he was dying. He never felt so unmotivated in his life--he honestly wanted to die himself. Then you showed up out of literally nowhere, all smiles and laughter, running into his arms so happily, it was like he'd just come back from another mission.

-After that came a massive breakdown, followed by angry questioning, scared squeezing, and joyful, yet sorrowful tears.

-He was shocked when you revealed what you were--an Ajin whose powers were dormant and had only activated once before--until very recently that is--and who was now immortal. This is because Vergil knows that with great POWER comes even more POWER and MOTIVATION. He's all for it.

-Should you be able to change into a Black Ghost, he will find your imposing build comforting to be around. Finally, he can feel the warmth of being absolutely crushed by two impossibly strong arms and the comfort of being squashed against a nice, firm chest.

-Is not, and never will be scared of you because you can turn into some weird ghost thing. You're his and he's gonna keep a tight hold on you, forever.

□ Nero □

-Nero thought there was nothing to fear; that he could let his guard down once during this peaceful walk home. He was so very wrong. Demons came out of literally nowhere, slicing you up faster than he could even blink. By the time he'd regained his senses and shot the monsters down, you were already gone.

-Nero was absolutely devastated, fear, grief, and anger accumulating inside him like a dangerous, emotion bomb that could go off at any moment.

-Nero was beside himself with fury, punching walls and himself, physically and verbally punishing himself as a way to atone for his mistakes.

-Then he happened to be looking out the window and saw you making your way down the street, fit as a fiddle. He first thought you were just a pedestrian that happened to look like you, but as you neared his home, realized it really was you.

-He didn't even bother to wait for you to approach the door, he'd already rocketed out of the building and into your arms, refusing to let you go for any reason. It took him a while to calm down enough to understand words, which is when you explained that you were an Ajin whose powers had saved your life a while before, and that you had been keeping your abilities a secret up until now.

-Nero is received to know that IBM prevents you from dying again, meaning he can relax a little and not have to stress about protecting you anymore.

-He is a little on edge around your Black Ghost form, (if you have one) but might get used to it with time.

● V ●

-V was never really in a position to protect you from anything. He could barely even protect himself.

-When the demons showed up, he was just as surprised as you were, though he did not suffer your fate. It took him a while to defeat the monstrosities; once he was done, the truth of what had happened finally sank in.

-V was heartbroken; utterly, completely, heartbroken. Not even Griffon with all his hilarious jokes, nor Shadow's cuddling, could cheer him up. He stayed boarded up in the backrooms of Devil May Cry for God-knows how long, sobbing his eyes out and generally feeling depressed. Without you, his life seemed to have no meaning.

-Out of nowhere, you showed up, knocking at the door, welcoming him like your violent death never happened and you'd only gone for a short trip.

-Of course, V was very happy to see you, but also curious about what happened and why you look good as new. You explained you were an Ajin and that your powers revived you, and that the IBM in your body would prevent you from ever dying again.

-V was overjoyed and now intrigued by your sudden revelation. What else could you Ajin do? He wanted to see it all.

-Everything about you intrigues him, especially if you happen to have the ability to turn into a Black Ghost. There's just something about being towered over by a hulking, humanoid beast that fascinates him.

After thinking about it for like 3?? Days I made these two dumb diagrams?

It’s been a while since I’ve fully read through Ajin and Birdmen again so I definitely am missing a good bit.

and Yoshiki is honestly just going through it right now. It would fill up his circle… The “threatened with decapitation” on Yoshiki’s side is more from the author themself and not a character in the story, like Kei’s, but I still think it counts.
