media that explores grief masquerading as horror is always the most interesting, yet painful kind.
my favorites examples are: the good neighbor, el orphanato, haunting of bly manor and marrowbone

Watching The Good Neighbor.
Thinking of Jonathan Rhys Meyers character Robert.
Is he gay or a murderer? Or both?
Guess I'm gonna find out 😂

THE GOOD NEIGHBOR (2016)
Just f*cking rip my heart out. How dare you, horror movie, I was not ready to cry this much. The explanation for the movie (aka the ending reveal) is so satisfying and sad. A great film about how ignorant teens can be and how kind adults can be. Worth watching but it is very sad. It should be noted that the beginning concept is kind of stupid but I allow a little weirdness for a well rounded movie.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Two teen boys tried to fuck with the old man next door by making him think there was a ghost in his house and they were recording him. Weird shit happens, the man's reactions were strange, all leading up to the kids sneaking into his house and setting out (and ringing) a bell, which the man found and promptly killed himself. It turned out his wife had died of some throat or lung cancer and used the bell to call out for him. He told her that whenever she rang the bell, he would go to her and HE FUCKING WENT TO HER AND I CRIED LIKE A BITCH. OH MY FUCK. He was a kind man, a GOOD NEIGHBOR. (Also did you recognize the main boy from It Follows?)

Jason had been stress cooking one night and accidentally made too much food. Not wanting it to go to waste, he offered some of it to his neighbor. The next day the very same neighbor approached him and very seriously pressed a piece of paper in his hand telling him to use it whenever he was in trouble before disappearing back into his apartment. Jason looked down at the paper. Was this a sigil?

2023 Horror Challenge: [65/?]
↳“It was just a prank... Experiment.” The Good Neighbor (2016) dir. Kasra Farahani
Plot: A pair of mischievous high school kids create the illusion of a haunting on an unsuspecting elderly neighbor while keeping his every reaction under surveillance. A series of coincidences leads to tragedy.
Starring: James Caan, Logan Miller & Keir Gilchrist
This technically wasn't one of my planned Halloween watches. I decided to sneak this one in here before my movie marathon because I really had meant to watch it but forgot until now. Even though I've occasionally seen this title on streaming stuff as something watch and I've been curious about it, I actually got excited to see it after realizing Lili Reinhart had a small part in here (She's not in it a lot but it was cool seeing her play something very not Betty in her handful of scenes lol) What sold me to watch this though ultimately is that trio of leads and the trailer (which gives a lot away but had me intrigued) The combo of Logan Miller & Keir Gilchrist was a well-matched pair because imo they're both charming in their own ways. And well, James Caan really was a great actor and he did an intense job considering what he had to work with here. The one thing that held me back from watching this sooner is because it's easy to compare this plot to Don't Hang Up (which was coincidentally released the same year) but as I've said plenty of times before, I hated that movie so much when I watched it for the challenge years ago. They thankfully chose a different angle to make this more interesting than whatever that movie was going for. I feel like this was a really tense ride and I appreciated the way they blended the experiment and then the court scenes throughout. It was pretty obvious what had happened in the end result (so that does take away some of the suspense) but I didn't totally mind it actually cuz I think was meant to be more about the how and why we got there. Overall, I thought this ended up being pretty good. Definitely an interesting way to start the night.

I NEED to know what CosWan think of Hazel’s parents/their lovely neighbors compared to Timmy’s bio fam
They see moments, sometimes. Scary moments where it hit them like deja vu. But, aside from their initial fears when meeting their neighbors, they find it hard to think of the Turners in the same breath as the Wells family.
Hazel’s parents are just so… different. Relieving even. There's a lot of "Never"s with Hazel's parents. Cosmo and Wanda can leave Hazel’s side for long periods of time, without worrying.
Not that they ever stop worrying. They still do. But its a first that their worries are unwarranted.

Prompt 163
Danny pinched the bridge of his nose, taking a deep breath, counting to ten and then letting it out. Why was this always his luck? Alright. Okay.
Time to move again thanks to Dan pushing his body too far again, and ending up in his core. This was not how he was expecting to spend his days when he ghost-adopted his clone and sort-of son now actual son. Welp, he’ll throw a dart at the map to figure out where he’ll go next.
Hm. Well, pack up Ellie! They’re moving to a place called Smallville, you always wanted a horse, right?

If you give someone a ride home, or walk someone home, don't leave or drive away until you see them get inside and close the door behind them. Make sure you see to it that they get fully get inside safely before you leave.
This also applies to temporary residences, such as a hotel, airbnb, dormitories, ect.
Seeing to it that they fully make it inside safely isn't just about fear of something as drastic as an assault or a mugging. It would also be awfully annoying and stressful for them if they lost their key, and before realizing they're locked out their ride or walking companion has already sped off, so now they're stuck outside alone with nowhere else to go, and possibly a dead phone (when it rains it pours). Or maybe there's dangerous fauna in the area. Or maybe the neighbor's poorly trained dog with aggression issues is loose. Or maybe they slip and hurt themselves while walking to the door.
Even if you're absolutely positive they'll make it to the door safely, it's still a kind and thoughtful gesture to let them know that you care enough about their safety to see to it that they make it inside safely.

Another good moaning if you lovelies want to indulge with me.
Warnings: Bucky Barnes, teasing, stripping, implied smut
Banner by the talented @cafekitsune
Teasing neighbor!Bucky since his bedroom window is across from yours.
You smile to yourself as you open the curtains and see his light on. He’s reading. Shirtless, of course, like the beautiful menace he is. He doesn’t see you yet, but you know he will. He can’t resist looking over to see if you’re there.
Yep, he’s minding his own business when you turn your light on and go back to your spot. At least, he’s minding his own business until he looks up and makes eye contact with you. With a wave and a smile, you push the curtains open more so he can get the full view.
And you know he won’t look away since you’re about to put on a show.
The book falls from his hand when you start swaying your hips, slowly, sensually. You want him to drink you in as you roll your body, a private dance just for him as you slip your top off. He’s on his feet when the bra comes off next, bracing his hands on each side of his window as he watches, turning you on more since you have his full attention.
You lick your lips and take a step back, bringing your hands up to cup your breasts. He mutters something you can quite make out, but the intention is clear when he runs a hand across the front of his pants. You can just imagine his gravelly voice and the things he’d say to you if he was right there.
“Look at you. So fucking gorgeous.”
“Let me eat that sweet pussy. Wanna taste you.”
“Bounce on my cock. Take me.”
Before you dip a hand into your soaked underwear, you shoot him a wink and quickly close the curtains with a giggle. You could picture the shocked look on his handsome face and awe in his blue eyes that you “edged” him. Oh, what will he do once he gets his hands on you? Will he pin you down with those strong arms and fuck you into the mattress? Will he want a more up close and personal show? Or will he grab that toy from your drawer and tease you for teasing him?
Your heart races as you flop down on your bed and look toward your bedroom door. He knows where the spare house key is. You wonder how long it’ll take for him to come over and use it.
You get your answer when you hear the front door open.
Nothing to see here, lovelies. Go about your business. ❤️

americans imagining Land Back as a reverse colonization where your family is violently displaced from their home—just no, and there’s so much projection and anti-indigenous sentiment in that reaction that we need to unpack. in the same way abolishing private property does not equate to taking the personal property/housing from regular human beings, land back deserves your full attention in the actual demands and futurities that native people are calling for. this knee jerk resistance against land back needs to stop inventing hypotheticals instead of engaging with the reality of this which is A. a broader political call to rematriate land to indigenous communities, who currently have limited resources because this is a settler colonial state B. specific calls to return specific lands—often ‘public lands’ i.e. national parks, blm land etc—which often carry cultural significance and also very direct legacies of violence tied to the original displacement. C. a return to indigenous land management strategies, which are place-based and culture-based and offer paths to restoring/reclaiming/reconfiguring the ecologies and human communities most damaged by colonialism/capitalism/the world we currently live in D. land back is deeply tied to the movements protesting oil and gas pipelines, catastrophic mining, etc ongoing destruction of the environment that place indigenous communities on the frontlines yet threatens /everyone/ downstream who drinks water and has a body
