Time for a phenomenon I call Schrödinger’s Tech - where I simultaneously think “that’s my boy” whenever The Operative does something cool, and also root for the good guys to defeat him by any means necessary (because if he dies, he was never Tech anyway).

The twist seems very obvious, enough that the writers could literally just be clowning on us for fun, but you do have to remember that the show’s primary audience is kids. Either way, I have to protect my mind from being wrong (worst possible thing that can happen), so I hold two contradictory storylines in my head at once.

Very good episodes, anyway.

I don’t want to make a separate post for this so just pretend it’s a reblog - The Operative said “You had your chance to be one of us. You chose the wrong side,” to Crosshair.

Which, in context, makes way more sense if “us” is the Bad Batch (notice he said “be,” not “become”), since Crosshair clearly doesn’t want to be a brainwashed drone. It does make less sense because that’s NOT Tech’s attitude toward Crosshair at ALL, and also The Operative is currently working against them anyway, but if The Operative had Tech’s full logical capacity then he wouldn’t be working for the Empire, would he?

The brainwashed clone dudes are interchangeable, so there’s no reason to show this one surviving if he’s not someone important — unless the writers really want to make us look like idiots, which I REFUSE TO RULE OUT

February 14th, 2024 Update!

Hey all, I'm gonna be trying to do this weekly now. So, quick update on things, first and foremost the book as that's what most of you come here for! I am 11k words in and about a little halfway done with the path that lets you participate in the next part with Lance and Alvarez. There is going to be quite a bit of variation in how a PC can choose to approach this scene; those Combat Stats exist for a reason!

As for things going on with Patreon, I have decided on a schedule!

Patreon content will release on Tuesdays and Thursdays!

I am going to attempt to stick to that schedule as consistently as possible, and I'm off to a good start on that! Part 1 of The Bureau Audiobook went up today and part 2 is going up on Thursday. Not to mention the small short story introducing the character Buck Marcellis went up last Thursday! The story is around 2.5k words long, if I remember correctly. An extra little thing going up today as well is the Poll to see what Interactive Fiction I will be reading as an audiobook next. That's right:

I've gotten a bunch of different author's consent to make audiobooks of their work, so anyone who is a subscriber to the Patreon, you will have a direct say in what Audiobook goes up alongside the one for The Bureau! Options include things like:

Introduction to the three eyed demon.

Hey guys. This is a little piece for an OC in a long-term story I am working on to post, so here is a little teaser for this OC. Enjoy!

For seeking the truth, look no further than the one-eyed demon. The elegant lady, only known as Unity, will always welcome all with a warm smile. However, for rose colored glasses and an altered reality, seek out her brother. The three eyed demon is the complete opposite of his little sister. Grim promises you what you wish. Whether or not what he may show is true or not is not important. What is, is everything he can show to you.

Grim is, by all means, a villain. With his abilities, he can bend the reality around him to his will. But once out of his domain, everything will dissolve and disappear. He will feed you pretty little lies to bend and break you. He is your puppet master, and you're his toy until he is bored.

So imagine his surprise when he found a new toy he couldn't reach. One that he never gets tired of. Just beyond the confines of his domain lays a soul he can not reach. Girm had spent his life doing his job, and now he is sure his boss will allow him this one toy to keep to himself. Girm has always listened to his boss. Brain washing those fulish enough to come to him for help.

So rest assured, you are in good hands with Grim, with his pretty lies and convincing you that he can help. Just ignore his lingering touch and keep close to him. You wouldn't want to wonder too far from him. Outside his domain, his co-workers and boss are not the kindest in the world, unlike him.

What if the Legacy line was ambitious?

Joseph Parsons gets way more involved in the American Revolution, and ends up becoming sort of an elite strike commander for Washington. When Washington becomes President, he apoints Joseph Parsons as the head of Military Intelligence. Joseph commands the Bureau for decades.

During the War of 1812, Paul Parsons is awarded a medal of valor for commanding the American defense of Washington DC, and drawing a truly impressive amount of British Blood there. He ends up commanding the American invasion of Canada. Though he doesn't conquer all of Canada, he does seize Ottawa, and convince Quebec to rebel agaainst the British. Quebec then joins the US as a State in 1822. These successes propel Paul Parsons all the way to the White House in 1824.

Paul Parsons the First has been elected to his third term, when he makes a controversial decision. He tries to abolish slavery. This immediately kicks off a fracture and almost civil war. However, Paul crushes the dissidents with the assistance of his son Paul the Second. Afterwards he argues that all now freed African slaves should be full citizens. With all the things he has done, h has enough pull to basically rewrite the executive powers. He basically makes it so the President appoints their successor. After a few more years of rule, he appoints his son as the new President.

This works in large part because most of the day to day running of the country is done by state and congressional individuals, who are still elected. Additional, most of the Parsons who aren't president at any given time are high ranking military officers.

During the Mexican American war, the rumors of the Parsons being supernaturally blessed is proven true when Paul the third smashes down a city wall wih his bare hands. This, along with slavery being a dead institution leads to several Mexican provinces being integrated as States. Also, no Andrew Jackson as president, so no trail of tears and a lot more Indians in the Eastern United States.

Later, during Paul the third's presidency, Paul the Fourth leads a campiagn to conquer the rest of Canada. This leads to a largely united North America Under Parsons rule.

Things go broadly pretty good until World War 1 kicks off and Paul Parsons the sixth leads a American volunteers to join the war on the side of the Germans in 1916. His flight and power is so impressive that it leads to a few other super humans showing up and being recruited by the US government. Notably, Paul the sixth recruits a scientist called Fyodor Ramonant and helps him to get to safet in America.

America's dominance in Super heroes leads to a sandoffish relaionship with the great powers of Europe due to these unique advantages. Over time, the US widens the technological gap between them and the European powers thanks to Fyodor Ramonant, Henry Goodman, and, eventually, Meredith Stinson and Ivan Ramonant

This starts to lead to an upperclass of Superhumans and genius inventors. This leads to the modern day, where President Paul Parsons the 8th leads an United States that spans North America. At his hands he has agents like Ivan Ramonant, Dawn Cohen, and Meredith Stinson.

However, they are opposed by a sort of rag-tag opponents, sort of downtrodden, not really super humans, including Ambuscade, Wraith, and Sofia DeLeon.

Nope now it’s at the point that i’m shocked that people off tt don’t know what’s going down. I have no reach but i’ll sum it up anyway.

SCOTUS is hearing on the constitutionality of the ban as tiktok and creators are arguing that it is a violation of our first amendment rights to free speech, freedom of the press and freedom to assemble.

SCOTUS: tiktok bad, big security concern because china bad!

Tiktok lawyers: if china is such a concern why are you singling us out? Why not SHEIN or temu which collect far more information and are less transparent with their users?

SCOTUS (out loud): well you see we don’t like how users are communicating with each other, it’s making them more anti-american and china could disseminate pro china propaganda (get it? They literally said they do not like how we Speak or how we Assemble. Independent journalists reach their audience on tt meaning they have Press they want to suppress)

Tiktok users: this is fucking bullshit i don’t want to lose this community what should we do? We don’t want to go to meta or x because they both lobbied congress to ban tiktok (free market capitalism amirite? Paying off your local congressmen to suppress the competition is totally what the free market is about) but nothing else is like TikTok

A few users: what about xiaohongshu? It’s the Chinese version of tiktok (not quite, douyin is the chinese tiktok but it’s primarily for younger users so xiaohongshu was chosen)

16 hours later:

Tiktok as a community has chosen to collectively migrate TO a chinese owned app that is purely in Chinese out of utter spite and contempt for meta/x and the gov that is backing them.

My fyp is a mix of “i would rather mail memes to my friends than ever return to instagram reels” and “i will xerox my data to xi jinping myself i do not care i share my ss# with 5 other people anyway” and “im just getting ready for my day with my chinese made coffee maker and my Chinese made blowdryer and my chinese made clothing and listening to a podcast on my chinese made phone and get in my car running on chinese manufactured microchips but logging into a chinese social media? Too much for our gov!” etc.

So the government was scared that tiktok was creating a sense of class consciousness and tried to kill it but by doing so they sent us all to xiaohongshu. And now? Oh it’s adorable seeing this gov-manufactured divide be crossed in such a way.

This is adorable and so not what they were expecting. Im sure they were expecting a reluctant return to reels and shorts to fill the void but tiktokers said fuck that, we will forge connections across the world. Who you tell me is my enemy i will make my friend. That’s pretty damn cool.
