What is Inspiration Goat precariously balanced upon?
As heard on the Daydreaming about Dragons podcast, the Inspiration Goat helps me process media and take parts that are useful for the gaming table. This isn’t about the hottest new thing or the crowdfunding with the biggest payday; it is just a few geeky things that are inspiring me. It might be weekly; it might be monthly. It all depends on how fast the inspiration goat chews on media and who…

Nintendo Switch 2 will be underclocked to increase battery life claims source
The Switch 2 sounds like it’s working at variable speeds (Picture: Nintendo) There may be a significant difference between how a Nintendo Switch 2 game looks when docked and when in handheld mode, if the latest rumour is true. Although most sources seem to be in agreement that Nintendo’s next console won’t be released until next year, there are still some that suggest otherwise; while nobody…

Imagine a girl deliberately underclocking you and teasing you when it takes forever to do basic system tasks :p
it would be a real shame if a girl limited my processing power so everything was fuzzy and it was hard to think while she teased me and did whatever she wanted and i was at her mercy and and

Omg you like transistor? What are your thoughts about it? I got it on sale after getting Hades and it was a lovely experience! Which btw, have you played hades 👀 it seems like something up your alley
Oh boy howdy
Transistor feels like a game that was built specifically to doxx me. Let's just.... enumerate it.
The setting is a gorgeous collision of art nouveau and cyberpunk, like you jacked Alphonse Mucha into the Matrix and told him to go wild.
It is not Darren Korb's best work, I understand that Hades is his best. However, it's my favorite OST and I personally think the lyrical work in Transistor surpasses Hades and Bastion easily. All the vocal tracks are honestly fucking incredible.
The locomotion of Red. I have talked about how my favorite type of weapon is Big Heavy Hammer. I love the weight of it, how much effort it takes to swing around. Red and the Transistor has that exact same feeling. When she swings that fucking thing, you feel the effort, the impact. It feels real to have her struggle with it.
I fucking love Red. I love the duality of the woman who lost her voice and the sword who talks. Also it could have fallen so easily into a trap of making the girl silent and thus removing her agency. But she sings through the OST, her songs are all showstopping moments in the game, and when she uses the terminals to speak, she's so fucking powerful and stunning.
I'm going to find the thing doing this and I'm going to break its heart. NOBODY OUT HERE IS DOIN IT LIKE FUCKING SUPERGIANT. NO ONE!
Also Sword Boyfriend is the best romance in video games.
First, the writing. The way this game writes Sword Boyfriend as so fucking doting and pining and wry and funny and always so fucking head over heels in love with Red, always. The concern, the humor, the way he knows her usual orders. There is so much intimacy between them. Also when he gets underclocked/drunk, it's SO HILARIOUS AND SWEET. The drunken rambling about how she's his star and he loves her and it's true, it's true!
Logan fucking Cunningham. He always kills it but he fucking KILLED this one. It's a miraculous performance. He sells every moment. The dude is so fucking talented, it's sick.
The running jokes about the Cloudbank and how dumb it is to leave everything up to popular vote, it's really funny sometimes.
That fucking ending. That was made for me, baby. The final moment, the way she gets comfortable against him. It's perfection.
I'M GOING TO FIND THE THING DOING THIS AND I'M GOING TO BREAK ITS HEART.
i love transistor. i understand logically that hades is a better game in every way (and so is pyre, likely) but i'm a slut and transistor was made for me.
(oh i forgot you asked-- yes i've played hades! not to final credits/true ending tho)

My trusty gtx1080 has finally been showing its age. Not that it isn't fast enough, but that its starting to crash frequently unless I underclock it. I've been contemplating building a new PC for the first time in about 8 years, and the chip shortage seems to be tapering off, for all but the highest end consumer chips.
...but wouldn't you know it? I just managed to by an RTX4090! At MRSP no less! (fuck u scalpers!) I even have my wife's approval! I probably won't have a complete build until after the holidays, but its exciting to be putting a new war machine together.
This was all inspired by finding out that Valve forked off a version of Wine they're calling Proton that makes most Steam games work on common linux distros without any real tweaking. I tried it and it worked great out of the box for Deep Rock Galactic.
Steam games were pretty much the last thing tying me to windows, but I can't underclock my gpu (without great effort) in ubuntu and I was crashing every 20 minutes or so at stock clocks. If I'm going to have to actually upgrade instead of plodding along with the hacky quick fix, might as well go big if I'm not going to upgrade again for most of a decade. I tend to use my hardware until it physically falls apart, like that poor macbook I had in highschool that melted its plastic feet off rendering 3d fractal animations at 100% CUP usage for 5 months straight...

Can't get the comparison out of my head that my gender is the homebrew version of manhood.
Like, perfect goddamn comparison.
The UI looks nearly identical, but I can run unsigned code, stop arbitrarily underclocking certain applications, change my theme if the default ever gets boring and there's a homebrew channel that has the same start up jingle as the one for Wii.

some of y'all aren't gonna like hearing this but planned obsolescence as you think of it doesn't exist. there aren't any evil businessmen sitting in a boardroom somewhere twiddling their fingers as they calculate the exact date your phone is gonna stop working
there is no magic line of code that makes your current phone slow down when it gets a new update, it's a mix of confirmation bias and the shareholder demand for every new os version to have new features. cpus also just get worse over time as more of the transistors burn out from the obscene amounts of energy poured through them daily
if anything modern hardware and software is designed for a fuckton of graceful degradation - underclocking means your phone's battery and cpu will last longer and a lot of old smartphones (even dating back to the original iphone) still fucking work even if they can't use modern apps
the problem with smartphones isn't some evil conspiracy to force you to upgrade every year, it's a combination of the limitations of electronics, the second law of thermodynamics, and good old market pressures. grow up and let yourself accept that the world is more complex than you think.

rules are rules and the bio says i gotta ask something. so, uh.
do you ever wanna be a robot that doesn't work quite right until another girl blows dust out of your vents?
God. That would be wonderful. To be a robot girl overheating and underclocked slowly stumbling around begging another girl blow out my vents.

Today's article is another banger from good ol' Goblin Punch, this time talking about how to make random encounters better. This has let to do with the monsters themselves, however, and moreso the mechanics of how the players should trigger random encounters. The vibes of the mechanics. Vibes are something I reference a lot when it comes to giving advice for writing & Running The Game, and it's probably something I'm going to mention quite a bit here. In standard terms, it's going to mostly involve how a mechanic literally feels in practice, but there are always a million ways to interpret everything. You'll know when I start doing it. Anywho, Arnold is a fantastic writer (both in general and when trying to express an idea), and I highly recommend you take a minute to read his prose. Trust me, even if you aren't well-informed on GLoG stuff, he's a great explainer. Enjoy!

Ravnica: The 38th District
Dimir
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite its unassuming nature with few notable locations; The Dimid controlled districts are hubs of information and research. Littered with libraries on all subjects the dimir guild has expertly woven themselves into the 38th’s society; all the while they collect information and secretly pull the strings of not only the 38th, but Ravnica as a whole. The guildhall is known as The Underclock, where Mistini, the guild’s sphinx keeps a of nexus of Doomsday clocks for districts of interest. The four faces closest to Mistini’s chambers represent the 1st district, 10th district, the 38th district and a district whose identity is hidden, only two minutes till midnight. While the existence of the underclock is shrouded in mystery, high level dimir operatives oftentimes find themselves here during their missions, as it has become a hub of Dimir operations.
Tumblr media
Moving on to the main civilian hub of the Dimir Guild, the Lamplight District. The district gets it’s monacor due to the Crescent Rock Prison Complex, This Azorius controlled Prison was constructed to shield the district from the sun. This effect has caused the district to be in a constant shadow, and subsequently develop a Horrible infestation of duskshell crawlers This compacted district houses most of Dimir’s civilian population. Don't be mistaken, although this is a tightly compacted civilian area doesn't mean Dimir doesn't have its operations held within plain sight. Libraries, stores, and even the birds themselves all work as spies keeping a close eye on anybody within the 38th. Under the surface of the lamplight district is a large portion of Undercity. This area was previously azorius territory and thus is a large network of bridges and waterways now known as The Waterlamp District. This has allowed the district to become quite the pain to traverse for those unfamiliar with its complex layout. The entirety of the Lamplight and Waterlamp districts are butted up against the golgari necro-district of Hangulg which emerged and swallowed a chunk of the district about thirty years ago. While the two gilded districts dont necessary get along, the larger enemy is the Azorius Senate who built a complex of prisons hovering over the districts. Until the fall of the Crescent Rock Prison Complex the two guilds have vowed to cooperate.
