The Troll x Gender Neutral Reader

[Author’s Note: I feel like he’s gotten more popular! I see him on my feed a lot now.]

     There he sat in his dark room, the silhouette of figurines and collectibles lined his shelves. Wires lay on the ground in an unorganized fashion and posters littered the walls. 

He pushed himself away from his computer and scooted to the mini fridge on the side of his expensive setup. Why did banks have to be protected so well!? It was just money! He reached in the cool space and his hand was in front of an energy drink. You were not controlling in anyway, but you did have your concerns about his lifestyle. The Troll exhaled through his nose and grabbed the bottle of water instead. 

You were more active than your boyfriend was and had a love for the outdoors but you never criticized him. You would sit on his bed and watch an anime with him, or watch him play a game. You took interest in his interests, it was so small but that attention really made his feelings for you run deep. 

The Troll had gotten criticism from almost everyone. When he was younger he was an honor roll student who could speak three languages and play four instruments. His parents pushed him too hard and he burnt out too soon. His parents should have blamed themselves but instead they blamed their only son. 

Now he didn’t intend to stop working for VILE or stop hacking but he felt like ever since he met you he started to change just slightly. He was prepared to be alone forever but now the silence was like sirens.

He let out a groan of frustration at the pop-up that appeared on his screens. “…Great.” The Troll muttered through gritted teeth as he accepted the call. As much as he would love to just ignore them they were his bosses. “I’m working on it.” He replied, waving his hand dismissively.“Remember to be discreet. We need the funds but it’s not worth any sort of exposure.” Ugh, he hated how annoying Maelstrom was. If he wanted to be bossed around he would just go visit his parents. “Make it quick.” Cleo added, “We have a job for you to do.” He nodded along but his attention was focused on another screen as he attempted to breach the walls of protective code. “I’m listening.” No he wasn’t. 

While Cleo happened to be talking she noticed a beam of light enter the dark room then a figure. The Troll turned around in surprise. “Babe! Hey!” He chuckled nervously, hoping that his partner wouldn’t take interest in his computer screen. 

You were able to see someone on his screen and your cheeks flushed with embarrassment. “Sorry! I didn’t know you were on call.” You whisper shouted. “I just thought I would make you some lunch since I haven’t seen you get any food yet.” How considerate of you! These small acts of love made his heart flutter. He let out an audible gasp and all the staff huddled around the screen in curiosity. “You made dino chicken nuggets!? I love you so much we’re gonna get married someday.” You chuckled at his state, lightly kissing his forehead. “I know we will. You should get back to your call, I love you.” 

After declaring his love to you one more time he sat back down with his dino chicken nuggets. 

“You aren’t going to introduce us?” Bellum asked, sounding somewhat disappointed.

Their whole entire world fell apart after the news. They felt like they lost an entire part of themself..again. Amaryllis was filled with vengeance, anger and desperation, all in one bitter heart. It wasn’t supposed to turn out this way! Their one and only family, VILE, was found out and arrested.

A name that tasted bitter to their tongue, They longed to defeat this “Wannabe Superhero” right this moment. They sighed with a groan, trying not to release all their frustration and anger just yet.

They took out their gadget, typing down a specific hacked contact.

“Who is this..?” The reciever asked,

“The Troll, Find out which jail VILE is in.” his stomach dropped.

“Amaryllis..? I thought you were arrested…or long gone.” He said, while trying to find out the location of the jail.

“Luckily, no. Those idiots could never catch me. Anyways, where..?” Amaryllis growled.

“Must be angry. Well, I gotcha. They’re in the jail of Reykjavik, Iceland.”

The Troll answered, realizing.

“Wait, are you planning to free VILE faculty? All four of them? Isn’t that too…eh..risky?” He asked.

“No, no, I’m not freeing them. Their plans are the reason why their entire organization fumbled..I’m just going to make them proud, that’s it. By defeating our dearest Carmen Sandiego, with my favorite two teammates..” They chuckled with an evil tone.

“Now, arrange me a helicopter flight.” Amaryllis ordered.

“Caaaaan do.” The Troll said.

“And— Amaryllis?” He asked.

“Hm?”

“…Keep safe out there, I don’t want to think you got arrested again.”

He murmured.

“Aww, so soft from an arrogant hacker.” Amaryllis teased, gaining silence from the embarrased ex-operative.

“Just…Okay, your flight arrives in just a bit.” 

The Troll informed.

“Good. Let’s defeat this lost little sheep in her own run.”

This is for @playerappreciationweek’s day 3 prompt, “Who’s laughing now, Troll?” I know it’s lowkey the opposite of the quote’s actual meaning/context in the show but the mental image was just begging to be drawn, and I’m pretty happy with how it came out too! This might have been the teeniest bit based on a WIP I’ve had sitting in my drive where The Troll hacks Player’s computer and uses an ai voice modulator thingy to continue talking to Team Red and pretending to be Player. It’s not super planned out and who knows if will ever be written, but this reminds me of it in a more metaphorical way, so if you’re wanting context, hopefully that somewhat satisfies haha.

I’m hoping to post more Player Appreciation Week art/fic this week or next but we’ll see! Things are, as always, hectic with school but I’ve definitely got ideas I’d love to make! And I love seeing everyone else’s PAW content too! Click for better quality!
