World Refugee Day Photos From My Time Volunteering in a Laotian Refugee Camp - 1980 “To every child – I dream of a world where you can laugh, dance, sing, learn, live in peace and be happy.” - Malala Yousafzai 40 years ago I was a volunteer in a Laotian Refugee Camp in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand. The one thing I found most remarkable was the smiling happy children everywhere. They had virtually no possessions and were living in extreme poverty but still kept smiling. There’s a lesson in that for everyone. . Not only was Richie an Ace pilot with 5 confirmed kills, on July 8, 1972, Captain Steve Ritchie downed two MiGs with three missiles in 1 minute, 29 seconds. First USAF Ace of the Vietnam War his WSO Jeffery Feinstein would claim 6 flying with another pilot than Ritchie for the last. Col Robin Olds had five probably Six kills but couldn’t claim the fifth because Washington told him that would end his tour.Olds decided staying with his squadron was more important to the cause than some kill claims so they were buried and never reported. That’s the kinda leader he was and his pilot’s loved him for it.

My job, as you can see, was teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) To refugees who were going to be resettled in an English Speaking Country. The refugees ended up teaching me a great deal about survival, about resilience and about warm-heartedness. They were always very welcoming to me and clearly knew how to smile through their pain. . „Found on the beach in front of Ubon‘s house, Aroon is a curious case. He was barely breathing when he got washed ashore, but Ubon saved him and he ever since lived a her place. They became brother and sister but Aroon acts rather strange. His brain seems stuck at a younger age, he barely talks and acts what other people would call weird. He has visions of a man who tried to drown him, but can‘t vocalise it. Ubon knows about it, since looking into Aroon‘s eyes trigger her special abilities; she sees him on a yacht with a strange, but familiar looking face she can‘t pinpoint.“
