I'm sharing this to show the courage and determination of queer people.
Although homosexuality is legal in Hungary and discrimination based on sexuality and gender is against the law, marriage is defined as between a man and a woman and LGBTQ+ couples cannot adopt children.
Victor Orbán is a right-wing politician and has been prime minister of Hungary since 2010. He has sought to make Hungary an ideological center for an international conservative movement. Donald Trump is a big fan of his. He has steered Hungary towards fascism and his country is now considered to be the most corrupt in Europe.
In 2021, Victor Orbán’s right-wing government has cracked down on the LGBTQ+ community with legislation. Hungary passed an anti-LGBTQ law which equated LGBTQ people with pedophiles and saught to protect minors from LGBTQ-related information in advertising, media, schools, bookshops, and in family interactions. It is very similar to the law that Russia adopted in 2013.
Hungary is a member of the European Union and this law violates the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. In November 2024, a hearing took place at the Court of Justice of the European Union and a ruling is expect in autumn of 2025.
In 2025, a new constitutional amendment was added which essentially makes it a fundamental right of children not to be exposed to LGBTQ content, and as such, it bans gatherings that promote or display "any deviation from a person's gender at birth, as well as gender reassignment and homosexuality." In past years, more than 30,000 people participated have participated in Budapest Pride. Participating in such events is now a criminal offense and punishable by a fine and up to a year in prison. The amendment also permits the use of facial recognition software to identify participants. This amendment went into force on April 15, 2025.
In response, Hungary's LGBTQ community responded by participating in a peace march organized by the political party named the Two-Tailed Dog Party. Rather than wear rainbow colors, participants dressed in gray as a way to illustrate the absurdness of the law. Instead of rainbow flags, they waived monochromatic flags and held satirical signs like, "sameness is trendy."

I'm at the magazines and print publications part of my collection at this point, but I wanted to take a moment to call out that one of my pieces of media is a pamphlet from TGS 1998 Autumn, where Victor Interactive Software debuted Harvest Moon 64 to fans on the show floor. Included in the pamphlet is a comic only found in this print, and includes some very goofy panels.

'Banana'
[FC] [JAPAN] [MAGAZINE] [1986]
"I have kind of a funny history (well, it's funny to me anyway) with Banana. For the longest time, I thought it and Takara's rather lackluster-looking platformer, Banana Prince, were one and the same. Then I came across (on Famicomblog) a photo of this game's packaging that made it clear the two titles were unique entities. As for what prompted me to give this oddly named Famicom game a go: Well, the aforementioned packaging, which features an adorable mole wearing white gloves and what appears to be a pair of blue jeans, certainly got the proverbial ball rolling, but what kept it moving along was [a now deleted] YouTube video. Admittedly, said video [made] Banana look more than a little rough, but that's rarely deterred me in the past. Also, I'm one of those weirdos who actually likes the aesthetics of severely retro games. Anyway, it wasn't just the colorfully chunky graphics that attracted me to Victor Interactive Software's maiden Famicom release. I also liked the looks of its gameplay, which at first called to mind such classics as Adventures of Lolo, Dig Dug, Magical Puzzle Popils and Wrecking Crew. In the end, those comparisons aren't completely apt. A better one, I quickly came to learn, would be to compare it to First Star Software's Boulder Dash. That 1984 release is a cakewalk compared to Banana, though, thanks to the latter's devilish, "you'd better make the right moves in the right order--or else!" mentality. Speaking of which, you'd probably like an explanation of how this pixelated puzzler plays, wouldn't you? The gist: You control the strangely dressed mole I mentioned earlier. He's plopped into each stage for some reason or other (sorry, I don't know the game's backstory--assuming there is one) and is tasked with gathering all of the fruit that's been deposited throughout each level (again, for some reason or another), retrieving the blue-haired lady mole who seems to be his girlfriend or wife and then somehow making it to the exit door. That's harder than it sounds, of course, thanks in large part to the game's sense of gravity--which means that whenever you dig or fall or otherwise move in a downward direction, the only way you can move up again is to find a ladder and climb it. And if you can't? Hit the reset button and start over, because you basically got yourself stuck. Oh, and most stages include boulders that, should you walk beneath them (and you will), fall into your path and make life even more challenging for you and your mole-y friends. The good news among all of this doom and gloom: Banana is a lot of fun despite its sometimes brain-melting difficulty. Partially responsible for that are the game's cheerful (if basic) visuals, although the appealingly blippy background music, which calls to mind both Donkey Kong and Mario Bros., deserves a quite a bit of credit, too." ~ @gaygamer

Flower Sun and Rain: Never Ending Paradise for the NintendoDS

Flower, Sun, and Rain
Other Title translations for Global release: Murder and Mystery in Paradise.
Release date: 2008
JPN game case release photos
Flower, Sun, and Rain, was originally developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and Published by Victor Interactive Software for Playstation 2 in 2001. Fast forward to 2008 H.a.n.d. Inc is released the modified version for the NintendoDS release. Though, Grasshopper had minimal involvement in porting the game from PlayStation 2 to NDS. It was released on March 6, 2008 for JPN, NA, EU. The original version on PS2 was positively reviewed. As for the DS release...it received mixed to negative reviews from critics.
It's a adventure video game with the wildest story for it's title. The story follows Sumio Mondo, who is a "searcher" and his job entails looking for things people have lost. Mondo is initially contracted to defuse a bomb planted on a plane, but is so distracted with helping the islanders that the bomb goes off. He ends up caught in a time loop, where he relives the same day running up to the explosion.
eBay sellers are selling the USA/PAL version for over $80 USD. As for the Japanese version is roughly $45 USD least. Without a language barrier being an issue, it's insane Japan is much lower prices for old games. I really don't understand this phenomenon, as a polyglot it would make no sense for me to pick my native language English for $30 USD more of a game that is made in 2008. My 2004 phat NDS was $85 +shipping refurbished, it's just nuts to me currently.

Sega Dreamcast - Sorcerian: Shichisei Mahou no Shito Limited Edition
Title: Sorcerian: Shichisei Mahou no Shito Limited Edition / ソーサリアン 七星魔法の使徒
Developer: Nihon Falcom / Exe-Create
Publisher: Victor Interactive Software
Release date: 27 April 2000
Catalogue No.: T-9102M
Genre: RPG
Sorcerian for those who don't know has roots going back at least ten years. This Dreamcast version while looking better than the others just doesn't seem right. I'm also not keen on the way the characters move. They just seem to bob up and down the steps without any real animation. Sort of looks like how a homebrew game would move (^o^). I've been playing this one for a few hours now, but I just can't seem to get into it. Visuals are nice as is the music but there's just something about it that I can't quite put my finger on. I guess a bit more play is needed before I can make any judgment.
This special edition comes with an original soundtrack from the game as shown below.
There's also a poster that doubles up as a stats sheet on the other side.

How to Edit Your Novel (Pt. 1)
If you haven't finished writing your first draft yet, feel free to save this for future use :) If you HAVE finished first drafting (BIG CONGRATS! That's a massive accomplishment, and I hope you're super proud of yourself ❤️ ), I really hope this helps you!
There's a lot to get into regarding editing, so this post will focus on more macro edits while part 2 will focus on micro edits.
Reread
In my opinion, one of the MOST IMPORTANT parts of editing is rereading your own book.
I highly recommend printing out your book into a physical copy. Generally, you can print out hundreds of pages at the copy or stationery shop (e.g. Staples), and then put them in a 3-ring binder.
For presets, I highly recommend at least 12 pt. font and DOUBLE-SPACED!!! This is so you can annotate easily DIRECTLY between lines on the paper while you're rereading. For me, I annotate with a red pen. The biggest things to focus on for a first reread are:
Plot + subplots! Example questions:
What things don't make sense?
What things don't you like?
(Spec fiction specific, mostly) Any worldbuilding issues, like no introduction to the cool fantasy gadgets, lore not matching up, or no logistical possibilities (e.g. how do gladiators in your book use modern flush toilets when the world is based on Ancient Rome?)?
Is anything too confusing?
Unnecessary scenes?
Issues with important plot beats (e.g. inciting incident too late, climax too early, etc. depending on how you want your story to flow)?
Characters! Example questions:
Is the development clear?
Are their personalities, motivations, and backstories fleshed out?
Do they have distinct voices that can be relatively easily distinguished in dialogue?
Are their names/appearances/personalities too similar, causing confusion?
Do you have too many or too few characters?
Are the character/group dynamics organic, significant to the plot, and enjoyable to read?
Other things to get picky with include:
tone, mood, voices, general atmosphere
prose issues like dialogue, description, etc.
plot discontinuities (e.g. John has blue eyes in Chapter 4, but in Chapter 6, he has green eyes)
grammar
Go in with your red pen and do whatever you want, as long as you can clearly read what you scribble. Let yourself go wild with *circle* "GRAMMAR ERROR!" or *underline* "STRANGE CHARACTER INTERACTION" or *large bracket spanning paragraph* "BAD SCENE!" Don't worry about making it look "aesthetic," just go for it in whichever way is most efficient for you.
However, for your first reread, or just an earlier one, focusing on the big picture things should be your first priority! Imagine tweaking the prose in one chapter for it to read like the love child of Victor Hugo and Charles Dickens, but then you realize the chapter doesn't serve the plot at all and needs to be cut...
Revision
After rereading, it's time to revise. Revision is the BIG PICTURE, GENERAL edit! Remember those issues that you found? Now, you're actively brainstorming how to fix them. This is not the REWRITING stage yet—that comes after!
Refer back to the list of questions above, and find solutions. I like to do this in a systematic method where I make a table (in this case, using Notion):
You can make this in any spreadsheet software, or even just create columns in a doc or on paper. I sort it by the ISSUE, SOLUTION IDEAS, TYPE OF ISSUE (e.g. character development, worldbuilding), and STATUS (done?).
Of course, doing this in a linear fashion is also fine, where you directly go down the chronological plot order. However, I would suggest separately brainstorming for each issue before you begin this step.
For example:
ISSUE: Heist is too easy and underwhelming
IDEAS:
Increased number of trained security personnel + improved tech (e.g. city hired guards who were former thieves themselves, security cameras, classic laser beams protruding from walls, a door with more locks and a very hard constitution)
In the thief group, more tension between each other -> harder for them to all cooperate and coordinate, leading to some things going wrong
Decreased competence of certain thieves, or just careless mistakes (e.g. tripping, coughing because of dust and attracting attention, not scaling a wall properly, etc.)
After you comb through all the issues like this (or however much effort each issue warrants), you'll find yourself at the REWRITING step! We'll cover that next time :)

I used to dread revising, especially after I'd finished the first draft of my first novel, but now, I quite like the process :) Yesterday, I just finished re-plotting an improved version of my story after LOTS of revising through 4 drafts! I can 100% say that no matter how difficult it is, a thorough revision is totally worth it!!!
OH! Also, goes without saying, but that spreadsheet revision example is NOT a real project hahaha
Hope this was helpful, and let me know if you have any questions by commenting, re-blogging, or DMing me on IG. Any and all engagement is appreciated :)
Happy writing, and have a great day!
