They tell each other who to look after and who to watch out for."/ "I would have come for you. Today is 10 years since Caitríona was announced as Claire Fraser and I remembered this here, DG wrote on CompuServe at the time:
"Hm.  Well, I can tell you that they’d never met or read together before (because Sam told me that), and I can tell you what the scenes were, I think. (Aside from anything else,… some of the audition scene scripts had apparently leaked, because a number of the self-taped auditions I saw on VIMEO were using them.)
Anything else I know was told me by the production or PR people and I can’t talk about those things unless I ask them specifically if it’s OK to mention thus-and-so.   (Not that there’s anything at all mysterious or weird; it’s just that some of the corporate entities involved are secretive by habit, and hey–it’s their show.)
There are two audition scenes, two takes of each, each about five minutes long.   The first one is the conversation between Jamie and Claire right after they’ve had sex for the first time, where she asks him, “Was it like you expected it to be?”, he tells her about horses and snakes , and it ends with “Do you want to do it again?”  “Would ye mind verra much?” and “No.  I wouldn’t mind at all.”  It starts with them fairly far apart, sitting facing each other, and they get closer and closer during the conversation, so with “I wouldn’t mind at all,” they’re kissing.
The second one is the big fight they have along the road, after Jamie, Dougal and the other men rescue Claire from Fort William.   That’s the one that ends with, “You’re tearing my guts out, Claire,” and then “Forgiven.”   That’s the one that had fireworks."  ~ Diana Gabaldon
I wonder if we'll ever see their second audition tape...

During an internship with House of Cool (Who through them many storyboarders contributed to the Tales of Arcadia TV franchise) Tristan Cottin was given various scripts to create new board sequences from. If they seem vaguely familiar they were originally on vimeo, vanished for months and later reuploaded on youtube.
One of the scripts he was given was A House Divided which you can see below!
youtube
This early version of the script (Which is ALWAYS neat to see) included a very unexpected tidbit namely:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It does make a lot of sense this got changed as it'd need a lot of set up ahead of time for the team to learn this was physically possible for one then the ramp up to this attempt and later Morgana. Still, very neat!
At present there's been a few random sequences turn up from different artists namely:
A House Divided - Merlin Vs. Jim
A House Divided - Releasing Morgana
Adventures in Trollsitting - Not!Enrique reveal
For the Glory of Merlin - We totally do not have trolls in this house Detective Scott
There could well be others out there that haven't been found yet! The Trollsitting one only appeared a couple weeks ago, Tristan's pair and the parents were found last year so these older scripts do still seem to be in use. Will keep an eye out!

The Digital Transformation of DesiCinema
Tumblr media
Not long ago, catching the latest Desi film meant heading to a packed theater, dodging spoilers, and waiting months for the DVD. Today, you can stream it on your phone with subtitles in ten languages. The digital revolution has not just changed how desi cinemas is consumed—it’s reshaped how it’s made, distributed, and celebrated.
Streaming: A Game Changer
With platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, ZEE5, and Hotstar making aggressive moves in South Asia, Indian cinema has entered a new era. Now, independent filmmakers from Kerala or Assam can release their films to global audiences without relying on major distributors. Films that may never have found theatrical space are getting international viewership and critical acclaim.
OTT (over-the-top) platforms have also blurred the lines between cinema and television. Long-form storytelling in web series like Sacred Games, Made in Heaven, and The Family Man has pushed writers and actors to dive deeper into characters, offering viewers something more layered than a 2-hour feature.
Diversity on the Rise
One of the most exciting effects of this digital wave is the rise in regional content. Malayalam thrillers, Marathi social dramas, and Tamil sci-fi films are now just a click away for someone sitting in Toronto or Berlin. Language is no longer a barrier, thanks to subtitles and dubbing. As a result, regional cinema is finally getting the global respect it has long deserved.
Take the Malayalam film Jallikattu, or Tamil’s Super Deluxe—both non-traditional, bold, and widely discussed outside of India. These aren’t just good Indian films; they’re great films, period.
Content Over Star Power
Gone are the days when big-budget movies with superstar leads automatically meant success. In the digital age, audiences are leaning into story-driven content. Films like Article 15, Paatal Lok, and Sir proved that compelling scripts and fresh faces can create just as much buzz—if not more—than A-lister blockbusters.
This shift is also encouraging producers to take more creative risks. Themes once considered taboo—mental health, sexuality, caste discrimination, and political critique—are now being explored openly, often with raw, realistic portrayals.
Social Media & Fandom Culture
DesiCinema fandom has gone digital too. Trailers drop on YouTube, fan theories explode on Twitter, and memes turn movie scenes into viral moments. Platforms like Instagram and Reddit have become hubs of discussion, critique, and celebration. Even actors and directors are more accessible, often interacting with fans directly.
It’s no longer just about watching a film—it’s about participating in the culture around it.
The Road Ahead
With AI, virtual production, and increasingly affordable filmmaking tools, desi ciinema is set to break even more barriers. Independent creators can now shoot on smartphones, edit at home, and reach audiences through YouTube or Vimeo. Meanwhile, the big players are exploring international collaborations, as seen with RRR and its global success.
DesiCinema isn’t just adapting to the digital age—it’s thriving in it.

Each word you read you leads you to the next and hopefully they are compelling enough to have you read this all the way through if you care about preserving Vidding Fandom History. It may be the case there are only 2 people primarily doing the work. Again, if this is a topic that interests you we would lovet to speak with you about how you can participate.
"Oh no, I am not a technical person! I don't think I could help with that and besides isn't that kind of work menial and boring?" I don't blame you for having those thoughts. Again, if this is a topic that interests you it would be worth having a conversation because you would be surprised. If this is a topic that does not interest then I thank you for reading thus far and you can scroll on.
Ok, good. if you are still reading (well of course you are or else you wouldn't being hearing these words in your head) I will tell you why your participation is so, so important. Vids that are rescued depend on those doing the rescuing. Even in physics the results are influenced by the observer. I and my partner do not want to be the sole arbiters of what is rescued and what is not. We need more eyes. You may be able to think of some work that only you know about that is worthy of being preserved.
Our job based on our experience is to show you how easy & fun it is for you to participate.
Join our Patreon! (very simple, financial support counts as support and maybe that's all you need to do to help. Servers cost money.)
Rec vids at VidRecs.com This will put vids on our radar to rescue and you can also check out some awesome vids others have recced.
Join Vidders.net and upload vids You Tube or Vimeo rejects. We already host more vids than AO3 embeds and we will archive them.

If you are tech savvy, we would love your help and/or feedback. We are too and we have some really cool archive scripts.
Have content you'd like backed up? Contact us so we can collaborate on saving a back up copy. We can be your redundancy.
Have a conversation with us about how you can help. There may be some other small way you can assist we haven't thought of yet.
In all of vidding fandom there are only 2 people preserving Vidding Fandom History that we know of and we don't want to do it alone. We will do it anyway (we've archived thousands of vids no longer available), but your contribution is a force multiplier. We can help you help us and you can help us help you. If this topic interests you, we'd love your help.
Thank you.

hi! i watched the passenger back when it came out but recently your sets popped up in my dash and i ended up rewatching it and that led to me watching dinner in america which i loved! i was wondering if you have any other kyle gallner films you liked beside from jennifers body and smile. also love all of your gif sets :).
That’s so awesome to hear! I’m glad you enjoyed The Passenger and Dinner in America. They’ve quickly become two of my favourite films. And thank you! I work hard on the gifsets so it's nice to know people like them. ☺️ As for other film recommendations in Kyle Gallner’s filmography, here are some that I enjoyed/thought were worth the watch and my thoughts: Note: If you have any specific triggers/aversions please check a site like doesthedogdie.com first before watching these. Mother, May I? (2023) — I wasn’t a fan of Holland Roden’s performance (I know she can act so it was a little disappointing) but the movie was interesting and I enjoyed Kyle’s performance. I mean, I liked Holland’s too at times but some parts were really bad imo. What Comes Around (2022) — I liked this one. The synopsis I glanced at beforehand wasn’t really accurate to the film’s contents but I still liked the film overall. It wasn’t crazy good like The Passenger or anything close to it but it was still interesting. Ghosts of War (2020) — I really liked this up until the last 30 minutes. But! Kyle gives a great teary-eyed/deranged monologue in this that honestly makes it worth it. The Cleansing Hour (2019) — I actually turned this one off in the first like 10 minutes but then I went back and watched the rest and ended up liking it! Once things start really rolling it’s a fun ride. Alien Code (2018) — Concept was too big brained for their tiny budget which results in some real goofy stuff BUT I really liked the story it was trying to tell and pretty much all the actors give decent/great performances. Zen Dog (2016) — It’s a weird little indie film but I liked it. It’s always nice to watch something and know everyone had a blast making it. (There’s a 30 min BTS on Vimeo that proves this lol) The Cleanse (2016) — Kyle is a supporting actor in this so if you only want to watch stuff with him as a lead then you might want to pass. I ended up kinda liking this. It was slow at parts, but it was still kinda cool. Could have done with like 10 more minutes of story to wrap things up but yeah. The Finest Hours (2016) — Again, Kyle is only a supporting actor in this but he looks real cute in this 1950s era film. Band of Robbers (2015) — I really liked this!! It has a great cast and a fun script. It’s a quirky indie comedy and Kyle holds his own alongside some great actors & comedians. Magic Valley (2011) — It’s dark and haunting and shot really beautifully. It’s a slow ride but not boring at all. Losers Take All (2011) — So much of this movie is kinda corny but it was fun and you get to see Kyle in a band singing which is a bonus lol. The Haunting in Connecticut (2009) — I really really liked this. I’m not sure why it has such terrible reviews. There are other films in the haunted house sub-genre from around this time that are much worse but somehow have better reviews than this movie which is baffling to me. I’ve been working my way through his filmography and you can see my ratings and reviews for his films over on my letterbox account. There are more of his films I didn’t include in this list either because he only had a small role, it wasn’t a very good movie, or I haven’t seen it yet. My main take away after, so far, watching 25+ films and a number of television episodes he’s been in is that he ALWAYS gives a great performance. The only time it falters is when the script/dialogue is weak which isn’t his fault. It’s kind of insane that I have yet to find something he’s been in where he’s given a mediocre performance. At this point I don’t think he’s able to give a mediocre performance. He’s super consistent with the quality of his acting. So honestly, no matter what films of his you watch, good or bad, you’re still gonna get a great performance from him.

Morecambe and Wise - Andre Previn (1971)
I was searching for this recently - the only versions on YouTube were edited, which misses a lot of the comedy in the anticipation, the time it takes to get to the alleged point of this sketch, but I finally tracked it down on Vimeo. idk, it is just one of those formative things in my life, and I wanted to share it with y'all.
It is effortlessly funny - but of course there was an incredible amount of effort behind the scenes to make it work, and talent, and in the end, sheer serendipity of casting.
Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise liked to rehearse exhaustively, which had been problematic for other busy guest stars, but, for Andre Previn, proved nearly impossible. They wanted him for five days; his agent bargained them down to three; and then his father got sick and he had to fly to America, only arriving back the day of the recording.
Eric and Ernie were convinced it would be a disaster - the script is long, and they needed someone who could convincingly play the straight man to their troublesome, chaotic personae, and Andre was neither an actor nor a comedian. But he nailed it--and it remains one of their most famous sketches, and one of the things for which he was most recognised, for the rest of his life:
"Eric was very worried that I wasn’t a comedian. He said, ‘If anyone thinks we’re trying to be funny, we’re finished. We must act as though it’s very serious.’ The sketch was scheduled at about five minutes, but when we did it on air it was nearer 10. Eric added bits as he went, like when he slapped my face. To this day, whenever I walk down a street in London someone will shout, ‘Hey, Mr Preview.’ Every single bloody time."

TRON Lightcycle Run from GMUNK on Vimeo.
There’s a power, an elegance, and an electric intensity to the  TRON Legacy franchise. The narrative of the TRON world itself integrates the tactile human experience with another realm where data, design, stunning architecture, and mood combine for a thrilling ride through a digital plane.   There’s a personal connection Munky has to the franchise. He spent a year designing the holographic world of the film, contributed to high-level concepts for the video game, and now the key visual and live-action campaign for the Lightcycle Run attraction at Magic Kingdom.
What was exciting for him is to be there along the whole collaborative and evolutionary arc of the TRON world. A new favorite agency Disney Yellow Shoes wrote a very cool script focused on typography and pacing, and brought Munkowitz into the fold to apply his aesthetic to the entire package. This point in the journey, particularly, really got him excited because it was truly the most cathartic and fully fleshed out manifestation of the story at immense scale and physicality; the characters, the environment, and the concept in an immersive experience that culminated in a total thrill ride.
To see the ride at scale and to strategize how to capture it was a fresh challenge. Combining that with the primary focus of telling the human story behind the experience, achieved through the same lens and focus on the stylistic flair of the existing franchise was an absolute treat to work on.

Pride & Prejudice (2014)
Tumblr media
I cannot find this. IMDb says it has 6 episodes, but there are only 3 cast members listed and the only evidence I can find online is one video on vimeo of the proposal scene, that seems to be following the 1995 BBC script (I could be wrong I did not check but the amount of times I've watched Colin Firth say those lines, I mean c'mon)
It seems to be a small scale production? I can't tell if it never fully got made or if it just no longer exists on the internet.

For the Ask a Vidder meme, 5, 1, 16!
5. Hardest vid to edit?
Hm depends on how you define hardest...
I think the biggest technical challenge I've had, which was entirely self-inflicted, was trying to get rid of all the zillions of stupid hallmark channel logos on my hallmark hanukkah vid with absternr, which was very fussy and also unsuccessful and something I volunteered to do while absternr was away from a computer because I like fiddly technical things for the first hour of them... BeatriceEagle's cleancredits program was really great for getting rid of the simple hallmark logo! It was surprisingly easy to get rid of just a white circle with an H in the middle. But they also stuck this big countdown to Christmas thing on the bottom of some of the movies that had a mistletoe border and was kinda faded in and I tried a bunch of different mask options and all of them looked awful... Anyways this has been an unnecessary rant about something I did 100% for fun.
From more of an artistic perspective I think a little wicked was the hardest vid to edit, partially because looking back on it I have pretty mixed feelings about it. I had some pretty specific things I wanted to say about the character but also the way she was being treated in the shows at a meta level and I was trying to make one unified statement about who the character is like and how she's treated in these shows across 3 shows and a movie where she has different amounts of screentime and is treated differently by the narrative.Like I opened with a shot of a badass moment and a moment of her unnecessarily falling on her face from each show but in the one movie, she actually only loses when it's appropriate (e.g. fights with superpowered oponents) and I was sorta faking it with a shot of her falling down in a fight that she eventually won, and in one of the shows I had to work really hard to find those shots of her being badass. (Which is why I wanted to make the vid in the first place - if you have a female character who dresses cool and is verbally said to be badass and in charge but you only ever have her falling over and getting undermined on screen that says something!)
What program do you use?
Davinci resolve! I guess if we're being comprehensive I've also used avidemux a bit for clipping as well as as using ffmpeg/someone's python script to run ffmpeg for multiple clips from a spreadsheet. (Resolve freaked out on my old computer with more than a handful of whole episodes of a show and tomb shows are too many episodes not to clip regardless.)
16. Favorite thumbnail for one of your vids?
I've gotta admit I've always gone with one of the default youtube provided options (though I try to choose whatever one of those is not actively misleading?) Pulling them up, my vimeo thumbnails are way better because vimeo just lets you choose a shot from the video (which is to say they're still just whatever still looked good). I have not uploaded all that many of my vids on vimeo. But maybe I should! For example this is the youtube thumbnail for Emerald City
Tumblr media
It looks okay! It's a shot of a car on the infinity train, which is the VAST majority of what's in this vid so you'd think that it'd be very easy to get, but going in to edit the video the other automated options for thumbnails are more focused on characters and it's hard to see what's going on with the train car, which was the focus of the vid. I get why youtube's algorithm thinks that people should be in a thumbnail, it's just wrong with this one.
Tumblr media
In contrast this is the vimeo one which I'm pretty sure is just the beginning of the vid. It's still not great! I could have actually made a title screen! But it is a focus on scenery and I think it's fun to have the thumbnail for something titled "emerald city" as a shot of a green room.
Anyways this didn't really answer the question... This one from love is an open door is pretty good - the thumbnail is kind of the ship manifesto for this one (which is real character Wu Xie, who has in other shows in this universe been played by Zhu Yilong, serious actor/the random side characters made up for him to have someone to do exposition with in this 10 episode show) - look at them! they have weirdly a lot of chemistry for how little there is in the character of the guy on the right! (sometimes a "good thumbnail" can be me going I still think this ship and my vid is funny)

We're just concluding our fall "Writing in (& about) the Age of Artificial Intelligence" workshop at Ad Astra headquarters (critique weekend is coming up!), and one of the participants shared this in our Discord. So naturally we have to share it with you, too, because relevant.
Artist and media critic Alan Warburton has released a brilliant new documentary about the evolution and state of artificial intelligence and its impact on creators, The Wizard of AI.
Tumblr media
"I would say 99% of it was made using generative artificial intelligence tools," the 43-year-old filmmaker told The Guardian. Could his 20-minute film be the world’s first AI-generated documentary?
Tumblr media
"I’m taking a leaf out of the AI hype playbook there," he admits with a laugh. "In truth, there is never going to be a first truly AI-generated documentary, because it always will involve labor of some kind. Labor is what makes it watchable."
Tumblr media
The film does a fantastic job of sharing what he calls "wonder-panic" through its very existence.
One take-away after watching:
If AI has already "created" more images than humans have, shouldn't there be less to fear about their stealing human art? Surely they've polluted their own fishing waters, so to speak, so will AI "art" become increasingly inbred and thus (hopefully) irrelevant to the creative world?
We'll have to wait to see, because surely AI trainers at working hard at this problem, and big IP owners like Disney are, too. So perhaps it'll only be small artists who remain at risk of their work being stolen to train AI generators.
Warburton wrote the script, and says AI text generation lags far behind imagery. So at least there's that. For now.
Perhaps the most powerful part of the film is the closing "In Memoriam" section, listing all the creatives who didn't contribute to making it because AI took their jobs:

We strongly recommend everyone check this out, especially creatives, to get a glimpse at the state of AI in our daily lives:

Note
hi I just want to ask where are you watching the mtp musical? I been meaning to watch for a while but not sure where to watch with good translation
Ah, hello!
So I have been collecting the blu-rays, which is a very expensive approach to say the least.
That's mostly because I haven't been able to find them either (admittedly, I don't think I was looking hard enough; There are copyright restrictions on YT, so I would suggest checking websites like Vimeo or Daily Motion)
That said, Kanasmusings has the scripts for all five musicals translated!
Otherwise, if anyone else can add on to this post, feel free!
