I really like the art I did this year! I did/made 132 pieces this year. This has beaten my record of 114 from 2020. Considering I work full time and do 100000 other things, I'm super proud of myself. It's like 1 art per every 3 days. I struggled choosing a piece for certain months because there were so many I really liked.
I used a lot more references and forced myself to colour more and tried different poses. I also tried New Styles (like 4 times but whatever)
I would like to return to more digital art in 2024. But I want to continue as I'm doing now. Maybe do backgrounds again, lamao.

Ernest & Celestine: A Trip to Gibberitia (2022, France)
Before the late 2000s and early 2010s in the United States, the possibility of finding mostly hand-drawn animated features from outside the major American studios and select anime works was a remote one if you did not live near a major city. Chipping away at that reality is New York City-based GKIDS, a distributor dedicating itself to introducing independent animation, “for both adult and family audiences.” Without GKIDS, Ireland’s Cartoon Saloon (2009’s The Secret of Kells, 2020’s Wolfwalkers) does not have the international reputation that it now has. GKIDS’ dedication to playing both dubbed and subbed versions of movies (before handing over theatrical distribution rights of Studio Ghibli movies to GKIDS, Walt Disney Studios only offered English dubs for theatrical releases) has shown its respect for its audiences.
When I saw Ernest and Celestine (2012, France/Belgium) in a theater in March 2014, it was the first GKIDS release I saw that was staunchly a children’s movie. What I saw that day was eye-opening. Here, like the animated movies that colored my younger days, was a work that could easily appeal to kids. But had similar, if not equal, appeal to adults. Call me a provincial and ethnocentric American all you will, but I realized then that non-English and non-Japanese-language animation is not always “more sophisticated” than what my friends and I mostly watched. It remains, to me, one of the best animated features of this young century. My thanks to GKIDS for all that they provide to American audiences willing to branch out beyond what is most readily available.
A decade and a CGI animated television series later, a new film based on the duo created by the late author-illustrator Gabrielle Vincent arrives. Based on an original story, Ernest & Celestine: A Trip to Gibberitia (in French: Ernest et Célestine: Le Voyage en Charabïe) retains the spirit of the loving friendship between bear and mouse – both perpetual outsiders. This hand-drawn sequel’s directors are Julien Chheng (animator on the original movie, producer of Primal, and director of “The Spy Dancer” from Star Wars: Visions) and Jean-Christophe Roger (a director on the TV series). There was no involvement from the original movie’s directors – I’m unsure what Stéphane Aubier and Vincent Patar (2009’s A Town Called Panic) are up to; Benjamin Renner is now working at Illumination. With some modifications that resemble more of the television series than the original film, Ernest & Celestine: A Trip to Gibberitia is another comedic delight, with pointed statements to make about the absurdity of government censorship. It does not exactly recapture the aesthetic pleasures nor the succinct writing of the first movie, but it still compares favorably than almost anything released in English-language animation this year.
Ernest and Celestine (Lambert Wilson and Pauline Brunner, both returning to the roles), defying societal expectations and a biased legal system in the first film, are still living together. Celestine draws and paints. Ernest, who has just awoken from hibernation, busks on his Stradibearius violin and bandoneon (it’s not an accordion). One day, Celestine accidentally breaks the neck of Ernest’s violin – Celestine is repentant, Ernest distraught but not angry. The only one who can fix the violin is the original craftsman, Octavius (Jean-Marc Pannetier). He lives in Ernest’s all-bear homeland of Gibberitia (Charabïe*), and Celestine believes that they should travel there immediately. A resistant Ernest opposes the plan, but has no choice to follow Celestine when she takes the violin and sets off to Gibberitia on her own. In the first film, Ernest mentions his estranged relationship with his family was due to the fact that he became a musician rather than go into law. In this sequel, Celestine learns the exact details of that conflict, and Ernest witnesses the changes in his family (his parents and especially his younger sister) and Gibberitian society that have transpired due to his decision.
Without spoiling too much, Gibberitia has outlawed all musical notes except for one (a C, or referring to solfège, “Do”). How are the average Gibberitian bears coping? All you have to do is look at the national slogan: “That’s just how it is.”‡ Meanwhile, a mysterious saxophonist vigilante named EFG (“Mifasol”, again referring to solfège) playing multiple-note music is giving the Gibberitian police a headache.
Screenwriters Guillaume Mautalent and Sébastien Oursel (the French-Irish animated TV series Glactick Football) present an endearing screenplay that captures the platonic love between bear and mouse. This happens in spite of a messy final act, headlined by a head-scratching decision from Ernest to acquiesce to his father’s demands just before the climax (the result of what the directors Chheng and Roger admit were significant changes to the story in order to accommodate a film where music helps to drive the narrative). The friendship that Ernest and Celestine built in the first film has grown in the time between the two films, and it is reassuring to see that they remain so close. One sees it in their reactions when Celestine breaks his violin, Ernest’s attempts to make sure Celestine is safe, her disgust when she hears about his parents’ expectations, and quieter moments where little else is happening. Simple as their friendship may seem, their relationship has deepened over time, through their distinct but complementary personalities and mutually weathered conflicts. Certainly, Ernest can be a bit of a grump and Celestine has an impulsive streak. But the two accept each other for who they are in that moment, and cannot stand the sight of others treating their friend without compassion. There is much for children to learn here and in the previous film, as well as adults.
That ability to tell a story appealing (in different ways) to both younger and older audiences is even apparent in the drama that exists alongside Ernest and Celestine’s relationship. Gibberitia’s decision to outlaw all but one musical note provides the bulk of this sequel’s comedy and dramatic intrigue. Children will get a kick out of the situation's silliness, as even Gibberitia’s songbirds find themselves on the receiving end of the police’s high-pressure hoses. How much laughter can one elicit from playing a piece, with a straight face, that has only one note? More than you think. Adults will quickly notice the surprisingly sharp critique towards government officials looking to censor works of art. Artists are incarcerated without trial for playing anything other than a C. That the reasons behind the decision are hilariously shallow (rather than, to take a real-life scenario, an intent to further marginalize marginalized groups) makes the movie’s messaging that much more effective for all audiences.
Ernest and Celestine’s conversations with the local constabulary are alarmingly fruitless, usually ending with the authority saying something alone the lines of: “because I said so” or the oft-quoted “that’s just how it is.” If Gibberitia’s kritarchy is outlawing all but one note, what else are they up to? Co-directors Chheng and Roger and co-writers Mautalent and Oursel, to ensure the film’s appeal to children, will not say and steadfastly stick to the ban on all but one musical note. In a show of respect to viewers of all ages, they color the film’s protagonists and their allies with both irreverence and a bold refusal to honor the status quo. It befits Ernest and Celestine (the pair and the prior film): two social outcasts who found friendship through art, who stuck together in the face of mutual xenophobia by their fellow bears and mice (a similar allegory that 2016’s Zootopia bungled). When individuals are allowed to be what they want, when musicians can play whichever notes they wish, does that not make our world – humans and sassy talking animals alike – richer and more beautiful?
Where the preceding television series Ernest and Celestine, the Collection was animated with computers, Chheng and Roger decided to return to hand-drawn animation for Ernest & Celestine: A Trip to Gibberitia. Says Roger in his non-native English:
There is a kind of emotion very, very specific to the drawing. It doesn't really work when it's CG. So we wanted to keep that kind of emotion, or very artistic part, as a part of the film itself. So that's why we came back to the animation, and we work in a specific way to give freedom to animators to express the feeling of the character just by their drawing and animation.
What I think Roger is attempting to say here is that, with a hand-drawn film, character expressions lead into the audiences’ emotional intuition better than computer-generated animation. There exists an expectation, implicit or not, that CGI animation should be “more realistic” than anything hand-drawn. This expectation does not exist with hand-drawn animation, and the rawness and immediacy of the craft lends to greater emotional engagement and work from the viewer. Chheng also added in that same interview that he did not want a “heavily rendered” work, and thought it appropriate to give their animators as much artistic freedom as possible while being respectful to the original illustrations by Gabrielle Vincent. The visible brushstrokes and various pencil scribbles call attention to the animators’ handiwork, and are a homage to those original Gabrielle Vincent illustrations.
Chheng and Roger make some changes in style from the first film. The watercolor style remains, but the white voids and intentionally incomplete exterior backgrounds are gone, with more detail packed into the frame for this sequel. Foregrounds, too are more detailed than before. These changes are probably due to the new setting of Gibberitia: a mishmash of Russian, Ukrainian, Moldovan, and Central Asian influences (Roger was particularly influenced by a trip he made through northern Pakistan into China). Gibberitia is eye-popping, a visual delight, and a more captivating animated production design than in the preceding movie.
youtube
Moreso than the preceding movie, the score drives much of the narrative. Vincent Courtois returns to compose another Ernest & Celestine film, and this is a more memorable outing than the first go. Courtois builds his score around two major themes – one that represents Gibberitia and another signifying the Musical Resistance (and a theme that often is heard from EFG’s saxophone). The best integration of both themes comes in “Appel à la resistance” – a zany combination of swinging saxophone and bandoneon. The Gibberitia theme, often heard with bandoneon and winds (and what may be ethnically appropriate strings), reflects the vaguely Eastern European or Central Asian setting of Ernest’s homeland. The chord progressions of the idea resemble Eastern European folk music (“Korobeiniki”, better known as the Tetris theme, perhaps the most popular). The eleven-note Musical Resistance motif (begins at 0:09 in previous link), is integrated throughout the score, slowly revealing itself and becoming more apparent as Ernest and Celestine learn more about the musical freedom fighters banding together to oppose Gibberitia’s nonsensical musical policy.
Courtois composed the score before any writing was complete. This is contrast to what usually happens in any and all filmmaking, where the score is usually one of the last things to complete. From there, Chheng and Roger crafted their film and set the action sequences to the rhythm and contours of Courtois’ music. Music drives the way in more ways than one in Ernest and Celestine: A Trip to Gibberitia, making the film not just a fun watch, but a wonderful listen (and that includes the end credits song “Qu-est-ce qu’on fait de l’amour?”, composed by Courtois and performed by Pomme).
Ernest and Celestine: A Trip to Gibberitia may not as accomplished as the first film, but this is a charming continuation of what came before. A decade separates the two Ernest and Celestine films. One hopes a third will not be so far away, but Chheng and Roger sound content to wait for the right reasons and story to come their way. Now undoubtedly each other’s best friend, Ernest and Celestine stake their claim as the premier odd couple of modern animated cinema. Celestine’s optimistic determination and Ernest’s streetwise know-how, together, help themselves and others. Free of cynicism, they continue to grow with each other, spreading the hallmarks of their unlikely friendship along the way.
My rating: 8/10
^ Based on my personal imdb rating. My interpretation of that ratings system can be found in the “Ratings system” page on my blog. Half-points are always rounded down.
* This review is based on the original French audio with English subtitles. "Charabïe" definitely does not sound like "Gibberitia", but the word is derived from "charabia", which is French for "gibberish". Ultimately, the decision for English title lies with the original studio(s), not non-domestic distributors like GKIDS.
‡ More accurately, the slogan is, "C'est comme ça et pas autrement." More literally, this means: "It's this way and only this way."
Also in this series: Ernest and Celestine (2012, France/Belgium)

Death Wish II (1982)
Tumblr media
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
I’m fairly sure everyone involved in the making of Death Wish II knew they were making trash, which begs the question: why was this movie made? This is exploitative, cynical filmmaking that does little more than re-iterate everything that was said and done in the first but worse.
After Paul Kersey (Charles Bronson) comes home to find his maid and daughter raped and murdered by the thugs who stole his wallet, he returns to his vigilante ways.
Woah, Woah! Slow down Death Wish 2! TWO of Kersey’s close ones get raped and murdered? Save some of them for Death Wish 3! I mean, otherwise what crime will the incompetent police force fail to solve, forcing Kersey to take the law into his own hands AGAIN? If you’ve seen Death Wish, you’ve seen Death Wish 2. There’s something particularly vile about this action film, and it isn’t only the excessive amount of female nudity as the hooting criminals gleefully lick their lips while ripping off the women’s clothes. Say what you will about the first but it was exactly that, THE FIRST. You needed to show those trauma-inducing moments to make you understand why Kersey would take the law into his own hands. This time, director Michael Winner's only objective is to exploit the audience. It's so manipulative you'll be tricked into wanting to see violent revenge fantasies brought to life by a man that’s way too old to play the role he’s playing. The criminals in this film do nothing BUT victimize women and torment innocent people. They're cartoons.
This picture has nothing to say, even if you haven’t seen Death Wish or its innumerable clones. We do not explore the toll this violence has upon Kersey beyond his lust for revenge. There are no moral dilemmas about the vengeance he rains down upon the thugs (which, if it interests you, includes a young Laurence Fishburne III). The topic of vigilante justice is never shown in a balanced manner. I can’t even say the action scenes are particularly exciting, or the deaths satisfying either.
Is there ANYTHING good in this film? Well, two I suppose. The first is that because the film is obviously lewd and lurid from the first few scenes, it’s never actually as impactful as it should be. It’s the most backwards compliment I’ve ever given but it’s true; by being crappy, the film manages avoid becoming offensive. This makes it “better”. Even so, it still contains gratuitous amounts of rape so maybe I’ve just become numb to it. Your mileage will probably vary on this issue. The second “good” aspect is a scene so bad it becomes comical AND checks off an item on my list of things I’ve always wanted to see in a movie. If there’s one thing I hate, it’s when a character jumps out of a window when they have no idea what’s outside. In Death Wish II, someone jumps and lands on something that kills them instantly. I’ve wanted to see that ever since I sat through 2005’s A Sound of Thunder.
Trashy, lazily written, unimaginative, tired, cheap... there are many unflattering adjectives which would comfortably fit Death Wish II. It’s wretched and I can’t imagine the next in the series will be any better. (Full-screen version on DVD, November 4, 2018)

Alf Vincent - George Lambert in London, 1912
George Washington Thomas Lambert ARA (1873 – 1930) was an Australian painter, illustrator, and cartoonist. He is remembered as a portrait painting and as a war artist during the First World War. Lambert was born in St Petersburg and raised in Württemberg, Germany and then Somerset, England. At the age of 14 (1887), he migrated to Sydney, Australia with his grandparents. The young Lambert worked as a jackeroo on rural station properties and developed an appreciation for horses and rural scenes. In 1894, he first started exhibiting his paintings and in the next year he started to contributing cartoons to the Bulletin. Between 1896 and 1900, Lambert studied at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney. He spent a year in Paris (1901) before moving to London where he exhibited at the Royal Academy. Lambert was appointed an official Australian war artist in 1917 during the First World War. He visited in Gallipoli and Palestine. Lambert then returned to Australia. Much of his work was focused on portraiture and, in in 1927, he won the Archibald.

Steak    [trailer]
George is the scapegoat of his classmates. One day he cracks and shoots them. His best and only friend Blaise is accused in his place and sentenced to 7 years in a psychiatric hospital. At the day of his release, Blaise realizes he only has one family: his best friend George.
One of the early movies by Quentin Dupieux. Just as his later movies, it features his usual absurd touches. Here he's mocking the stupid behaviour of college boys "clubs".
It's darkly funny, but I'd say it's mainly for the Dupieux completionists.

WORD COUNT: 3.1k

SUMMARY: Making your first official appearance as Harry's girlfriend brings some struggles, but you realize that nothing really matters as long as you have his love.
MASTERLIST | SUPPORT ME!
Tumblr media
Waking up is usually your least favorite part of the day, your sweet dream is usually interrupted by your evil alarm, signaling that it’s time for you to leave the comfort of your bed and face the big bad world again. So it’s safe to say you’re not a sunshine of a person when you wake up.
But if instead of a blaring alarm it’s soft lips that bring you back to consciousness, peppering sweet kisses along your spine… well, then it’s not that bad.
“Mmm.”
You hum into the pillow, eyes still closed as those lips you know so well keep pressing against your naked back. It’s a little cold, because he has pulled the sheets down your body, but the kisses make up for the discomfort.
“Good morning,” he murmurs against your skin and his husky morning voice sends a shiver down your spine instantly.
“Mm, hope you had a good reason to wake me up on a Saturday.” You try to sound mad, but you can’t hide the smirk that stretches across your face when you feel his hand on your hip, sneaking underneath you until his palm is cupping your breast.
“I have several good reasons why I needed you awake,” he chuckles, maneuvering you until you’re finally on your side, pressed up against his front. He cranes his neck until his lips reach yours, greeting you with his usual morning kiss that usually makes you dizzy. “I needed your pretty lips,” he mumbles against your mouth. “And I needed… your…” His hand has slid down your body, over your tummy and between your legs. Your satisfied moan finishes his sentence.
Seven months. It’s been seven months of bliss with Harry and every moment you spend with him just keeps on giving. After that incredible night you spent together, the one that was filled with emotions and passion after you had to face Vincent, you didn’t think it would be something that would last. You weren’t sure if it was just physical, but when you finally managed to leave bed in the morning and sat down to eat breakfast, Harry made it perfectly clear that he was all in.
“Do I want to have you naked in my bed every possible? Yes, of course. Do I also want to listen to you talk about your day, take you out on dates and know you more than anyone ever did? Absolutely yes.”
He left you speechless and all you could do was kiss him until your lips went numb.
So you’ve been his girlfriend since then.
Now as you’re tangled in his sheets, you’re chanting his name while he fucks you from behind, making sure your day starts perfectly. He knows your body so well he can get you to come faster than anyone has ever. You’re fully satisfied way before the clock hits nine in the morning.
You shower together and then make breakfast, well, Harry makes breakfast because you’ve learned that he is practically a master chef, so you usually just stare at him dreamily while he makes eggs and toast, his mouthwatering cinnamon rolls baking in the oven.
“I have to leave in like… twenty,” he sighs as the two of you sit at the kitchen island, your plates are now empty and he is sipping on his coffee. “I’ll be here at six to pick you up, but Lambert will arrive soon.”
“You’ll be gone the whole day?”
“I know, I have some business to take care of,” he sighs as he leans closer and kisses your pouty lips.
“It’s Saturday!”
“I’ll make it up to you. We’ll have a blast tonight, okay? I can’t wait to see you in your pretty dress,” he grins, kissing you one last time before he slides off his stool and finishes the rest of his coffee before heading back to the bedroom to get ready.
As you clean up in the kitchen you try your best to push the bitter feeling to the back of your mind, but it lingers over you inevitably.
Tonight you’ll appear together at a charity event for the first time together. Well, officially. You’ve been out and about plenty of times, even got photographed which blew your mind, because in your head only celebrities got papped and you never saw Harry as one, but it turns out that big, influential people get followed around as well. But you’re yet to make your official debut as a couple.
You haven’t told Harry, but it’s been scaring you to death. Appearing by Harry’s side at an event means that your relationship would be out there in the public, allowing everyone to talk about it. And that would bring comments into your life you would rather not face.
Though Harry has been treating you like a queen, quite obviously obsessed with you inside and out, that doesn’t mean others’ opinion can’t bring you down. Part of you still thinks Harry is ridiculously out of your league and apparently people agree with you as well.
There’ve been a few articles about the handful of times you were photographed together and though what they wrote in those were nice, the comment sections did not pass the vibe check.
“Wait, what? That’s his girlfriend? Wow…”
“What is he seeing in her?!”
“That man could have anyone and decided to date her. Let that sink in.”
“Harry, blink twice is she is holding you hostage! Lol.”
You tried hard not let it show how much those comments hurt you, but Harry could see through your façade.
“Babe, they would find something to talk about no matter what. I think you look stunning just the way you are. Don’t listen to jealous, faceless commenters.”
Then he loved on you all night long, made you forget about the comments in the best possible way.
But it doesn’t mean you grew a thick skin overnight and you know you’ll have to face the wrath of the haters after tonight.
When Harry steps out of his bedroom he is dressed and he looks so good you just want to drag him back to bed and take your time with him.
“See you later, okay?” he smiles softly as he leans down to place a chaste kiss to your lips.
“Okay. Have a good day.”
“Thank you, I love you.”
“Love you too,” you sigh against your lips and then watch him approach the front door. When he opens it, a familiar figure is standing there.
“Babe, I think you have a guest!” Harry calls out with a smile, shaking hands with the man that just stepped inside. “She is the boss today,” you hear Harry say as he pats Lambert’s shoulder, switching places and he is on his way.
“Good morning, Princess,” Lambert grins at you, greeting you with two kisses on your cheeks.
“Morning, Harry,” you chuckle.
“Your man said you’re the boss today. But I have plans for us, so let’s get you dressed, we have a lot to do!”
Lambert did not joke, he did have plans for you, lots of plans, to be exact. You start off at a spa where you get the full treatment, a massage, a facemask, you get your nails done and then you are off to get your hair done. He doesn’t let you pay for anything, but when you see your boyfriend’s credit card in his hand you know it was all Harry’s doing. He probably knew you were nervous about tonight and wanted to pamper you.
When you’re glowing you have lunch break at your favorite sushi place and then it’s time to figure out what to wear, your least favorite part of any event.
“I have plenty of options for you, babe,” Lambert tells you when you’re back at Harry’s place and you see that a rack full of clothes has been delivered while you were away. “Now, let’s turn this place into a runway, let me see you try these on!”
Dress after dress, Lambert makes you walk back and forth, the two of you rating them all. Some of them are surely your taste, but some are definitely too daring for you. He is trying to get you out of your comfort zone and you’re fighting to stay in it, knowing how nerve wrecking tonight will be, you don’t need to add to the discomfort with the dress as well.
“Okay, this is the last one I have. If you say no to this, you’re going naked,” Lambert sighs dramatically, as he hands you the last dress off the rack.
When you put on you already know this will be the one even though you haven’t even looked in a mirror yet.
“Oh my God!” Lambert gasps when you walk out with a shy smile. “That’s it, you’re wearing this tonight!”
“I agree,” you chuckle, checking yourself out in the mirror.
The black dress hugs your curves at all the right places. The V-neckline is quite daring, but it’s still tasteful. The waist is synched, the skirt is just the right length, reaching down to the floor and the slit comes up high, flashing your left leg when you walk.
You feel powerful and beautiful, just what you need for tonight.
You’ve just gotten ready when your phone rings and Harry’s name is flashing on the screen.
“Hey,” you coo as you answer the call.
“Hey babe, I have kind of bad news,” you hear him sigh. “I’m running kind of late, so I can’t make it back home, I have to meet you there.”
“Oh,” is all you answer, anxiety weighing down in your stomach instantly.
“I’m really sorry, baby. But I’ve already sent a car for you and we’ll meet at the venue. And when we get home I promise to make it up.”
You can’t see him, but you know he’s got that cheeky smile on his face that you love so much.
“Okay.”
“You’re all dolled up already?” he asks.
“Yeah. I can’t wait for you to see my dress,” you smile, biting into your bottom lip.
“I can’t wait either. And you know what else I’m excited about?”
“What?”
“Taking that dress off you.”
“You haven’t even seen it!” you chuckle, warmth spreading through your body.
“I’m sure you look fantastic, but nothing compares to seeing you naked.”
“You’re like a horny teenager, just always wants to get into my pants!” you tease him.
“I can’t help it when I have the most beautiful woman all to myself. Alright, I gotta go, I’ll see you there, okay?”
“Okay. Drive safe, I love you.”
“I love you too.”
The call ends and you’re standing in front of the mirror, watching yourself take a few breaths before you force yourself to put on your heels and head out. You were counting on having Harry with you when you walk in there, but now you’ll have to endure those curious stares on your own. You can only hope Harry won’t take long to get there. You really need him by your side.
Arriving to the venue you feel like you’re showing up uninvited to some major event, there are limos lining in front of and behind you, you see women in gowns, men in tuxedo and you feel oddly out of space, wishing you had Harry holding your hand, telling you it’s gonna be alright. He texted you not long ago that he is on his way, so you estimate him to arrive just a bit after you, so hopefully you don’t have to wander around on your own.
Walking up the stairs the kind man at the entrance asks for your name and for a moment you start sweating, because you fear you’re not even on the list, but then you see him tick your name and then gestures for you to walk in.
You’ve never been to an event like this, it’s luxurious and stunning, definitely an unusual sight for you. A waiter walks by and offers you a flute of champagne that you gladly take as you make your way further inside, trying to figure out what to do until Harry arrives. You spot the buffet table and you take a turn towards it, you haven’t had anything since your lunch with Lambert, so you definitely need something to fuel you for the night.
You’ve just reached the table when you feel like you’re being watched. Before you could get anything from the food you stop for a moment and look around, spotting a group of women definitely watching you, whispering among them, most likely about you. They don’t think you can hear them, but you actually catch some of their comments.
“Is she on her own? Did he dump her but she still came?”
“That’s a very bold dress for someone the size of her.”
“I know, right?”
They start laughing and suddenly you’ve lost your appetite. Takin a deep breath you turn around and walk away before you could hear anything else that could hurt you, you’ve heard enough.
Through teary eyes you search for the restrooms and when you finally spot it you rush inside, away from the curious stares. Suddenly, you feel like a teenager again, being made fun of for being bigger than the cool girls. All your life you’ve struggled because you didn’t fit into what was labelled pretty. Because of your size you never felt enough, never saw yourself worthy of love and here you are, still fighting your tears as an adult.
It takes you some time to calm down and be able to breathe regularly again. You take a moment to think and get your thoughts straight. You stand in front of the mirror and take yourself in.
When you left from Harry’s place you felt beautiful, why are you letting people you don’t even know change your mind about it? Why would you be less or different just because you’re a bigger size? Why would you let strangers decide your worth?
The longer you’re looking at yourself in the mirror the more confident you’re feeling. You’re a great person. You’re kind and funny and smart, you built up your business, you have people around you that love you for who you are, they are the people whose opinion you should care about.
By the time you step out of the restroom you’re facing the evening with a whole different attitude. Holding your head high you enter the scene again and you look around, checking if you see Harry anywhere and you spot him before he sees you.
He is wearing a black suit with a black, silky shirt underneath, the first few buttons undone, showing you a bit of his chest and it’s definitely a turn on. He is craning his neck, most likely looking for you, phone in hand and he is just about to text you when he finally spots you.
The look on his face… you’ll never forget it as long as you live.
It’s like the rest of the room stops existing when his eyes land on you. The smile that spreads across his face is full of love and adoration, you see everything you’ve ever wished for in him and realization washes over you.
It doesn’t matter what others think as long as you have him looking at you like you’re his whole universe.
You make your way over to him and he starts moving at the same time, you only see him in your tunnel vision and you have to stop yourself from running towards him. Every step you take that brings you closer to him strengthens the feeling that takes over you.
Why would you ever care about others when you have Harry?
Slaloming between the guests you finally reach him and he takes your face between his hands kissing you with all his love and desire for you.
“Hi,” you smile against his lips, holding onto his wrists as if he could disappear any moment.
“Hello gorgeous. Let me take a better look at you,” he grins, letting go of your face just to take one of your hands so he could twirl you around. “Oh my God,” he taps his chest with his free hand.
“What do you think?” you giggle, pushing yourself up against his chest, his arm curling around your waist out of instinct.
“I think that… It’s a shame we have to stay here any longer, because I would love to just take you home and have you all to myself.”
Everything that bothered you up until a minute ago is gone, it’s just Harry and his love for you that matters to you. You have everything you need as long as he loves you.
“Let’s make our rounds and wrap the evening up early,” you suggest, biting into your bottom lip.
“Great plan,” he nods, stealing another quick kiss before the two of you move along.
You don’t stay long, not even two hours later you’re on your way back to Harry’s place, taking a stop at your apartment to get you some clothes. Harry walks you up and waits in your living room while you gather what you need and when you reappear with a duffel bag you find him curiously eyeing your place.
“What is it?” you ask.
“Just thinking,” he hums. “Do you… Never mind.”
“What? Tell me!” you urge him as you put the bag down so you can curl your arms around his neck, his hands finding their way to your hips.
“I was just thinking about how you barely spend any time here anymore.”
“Well, I do stay over at yours a lot,” you chuckle, oblivious to what he is about to ask.
“Rationally, it’s not worth it for you to keep this place anymore. So I was thinking that… maybe you could… move in with me.”
You never thought you’d see Harry nervous, especially not about your reaction, but as he’s looking at you right now you can tell he’s afraid what you might say. Cupping his face in your hands you pull him in for a sweet kiss before you give him your answer.
“I would love to move in with you, Harry.”
“Really?”
“Yeah,” you chuckle.
“I was afraid you might find it too fast,” he breathes out in relief. “That my fascination might be a little too much for you just yet.”
“I assure you, the feeling is mutual.”
He kisses you, slow and sweet, taking his time to remind you just how much he loves you.
“Thank you for accepting me as I am,” you whisper against his lips before you rest your forehead against his.
“You’re perfect, Y/N. You will always be. For me.”

first of all - your witcher works are my favorite from all the fandom and i've been obsessed with them for very long.
second, a question - so i'm not sure if it was a fever dream or something, but i remember Lambert telling Milena a poem in Must Brave The Thorns i think? maybe it was by edna vincent st millay? i've been going spare trying to find it, do you remember which one it was please?
I suspect what you're looking for is the poem Lambert quotes in Your Faults Have Made Me Love You More. Like all the titles in the Accidental Warlord series, it's from a Sara Teasdale poem; this one is The Wanderer, from her book Love Songs, which is available on Gutenberg.
I saw the sunset-colored sands,    The Nile like flowing fire between,    Where Rameses stares forth serene,   And Ammon's heavy temple stands.    I saw the rocks where long ago,    Above the sea that cries and breaks,    Swift Perseus with Medusa's snakes   Set free the maiden white like snow.    And many skies have covered me,    And many winds have blown me forth,    And I have loved the green, bright north,   And I have loved the cold, sweet sea.    But what to me are north and south,    And what the lure of many lands,    Since you have leaned to catch my hands   And lay a kiss upon my mouth.
Lambert only quotes the last two stanzas, of course, since there's no Nile in the Witcher 'verse, and I don't think they've got Perseus and Medusa either.
I highly recommend all of Sara Teasdale's work! I find it very beautiful, obviously, and I wish she was better known.
