Ok this might be an unpopular opinion but someones gotta say it...

Cassandra is a better Casey Jones than Casey Jr

Ive gotta be honest... i think casey jr is a kinda mid and i dont particularly think all the fanfare about him is warranted LOL

I want to note real quick that i dont DISLIKE him! He is a good character who only got as much development that a 2 hour movie could give him, and he filled and satisfied the role he needed to play in the movie, but the way the fandom latched onto him over the og casey... kinda makes me raise a brow

(Essay/rant about the prioritization of casey jr vs og casey under the cut :P)

Fandom spaces love a traumatized boy from the future, and believe me i do too! But the amount of attention given to casey jr after being revealed as casey is a wild amount compared to the amount of attention the original casey gets. Maybe its just me getting into rottmnt after the movie aired, but this seems a little baised?

Not only that, but the amount of... idk the best way i can think to describe it is infantilization of casey jrs character isnt helping my opinion of him. It feels like most content surrounding him babify him and reduce him only to his trauma post movie. I understand that it can be interesting to explore his trauma now that he no longer lives in the literal apocalypse, but it feels strange to see him reduced to someone who cant get around on his own and lives with the turtles when the original pitch for the movies ending has him leave to explore the world, which i feel is very appropriate for him and wish they had kept it in

In the movie when april shows us where the og casey has been and what shes been doing throughout the film, it tells us that casey is friends april which in theory, shouldve also shown us that she and the turtles are friends to some degree as well and should already have her place established within the group as this generations casey jones

However the final shot of the movie is a group shot of the family+casey jr, which subtlety implies that he's the new casey instead, and that this is the main cast moving forward (should it move forward *sob*). While both caseys being considered in the main cast could be true, it does strike me as a little odd that this was the final direction the rot team decided on for the official ending versus the scrapped ending, especially because it complicates the pre-established canon. It wouldve been one thing if our og casey was a different character, but that isnt the case.. y... (<_<)

Casey jr is an interesting character though! And i can understand why he appeals to fans, especially as his character post movie is fun to expand on aswell as developing his past involved with future versions of the main5, but one (me lol) could argue that the og casey is just as interesting of a character to delve into as she was involved, when you boil it down, a cult most of her life, and that concept, as well as the guilt she could hold for working with the foot and releasing the shredder, ontop of trying to befriend and gain the turtles and aprils trust are also intriguing concepts that could be explored, yet finding content that mentions her at all beyond her relation to casey jr is scarce

It feels as though shes been reduced to a background character within the fandom despite being a reoccuring character for the entire show.

For the two seasons of rottmnt that we did get, we are shown just what kind of character casey is and her possible dynamics with the turtles+april. Shes passionate and powerful and beyond determined to prove her worth and reach her goals. Shes also playful and reckless, a side that fits well with the main cast and their humor and, if the show was given more time, couldve developed naturally as the newest addition to the family as most caseys are. I could also argue that her characterization fits that of previous caseys more than casey jrs does (though i will admit that considering the plot of the movie, i cant positively say what hed be like outside of life or death scenarios, but i also cant imagine hes going to make a 180 in personality without it feeling jarring and ooc)

Now, i wont ignore the fact that her arc was cut horribly short and her involvement in the movie was quite literally a brief mention, both of which definitely play into how under appreciated she is. But at the same time it almost feels like everyone, including the show runners, have willingly pushed her aside for this new boy version to fill the role of casey jones. Hell, even when you look up rottmnt casey jones, cassandra barely shows up. Its casey jr which further proves my point

Idk, TLDR im pretty disappointed that despite being a consistent character for the entire show, no one seems to write or acknowledge her and if she is mentioned, its only relevant to push forward casey jrs character development or a brief cameo. As much as i do love casey jr (i can feel like hes mid and i can like him!) it seems like most people forget about the original casey, or favor casey jr in her place and she deserves more love and credit than shes given!

chiles season 1-3 (their development) ‼️

woah season 1 chiles was the GOAT. look at them bro 🤧 they carried and they were so funny every episode like wtf. their chemistry was EVERYTHINGGG. they have to be the best duo in season 1. like the way they were friends in a click and they just get each other. i see chapa’s trust in chiles ALOT like it just shows me her development in showing affection towards characters (aka miles) BEFORE YALL SAY ANYTHINGGG ABOUT BAPAS DEVELOPMENT THIS IS FOR CHILES.. READ THE TITLE IT SAYS CHILES DEVELOPMENT… NOT BAPA. let me just keep going, pretty much had moments in season 1 but not much to talk about their development, but lets move on to season 2

okay so season 2 is something i wanna talk about for a while now, this season confirms that they literally like each other.. i mean look at them.. but let me show examples. in episode “power problems part 2” chapas little speech was the cutest thing EVER. we all know chapa isn’t the type of person to comfort someone but oh she will help miles. literally idk how else to explain this but their trust this season went UPPPP. at the start of season 1, we all know chapa isn’t that much of a sensitive girl (basically im repeating what i just said..) she CARES for miles period. cuties fr and i feel like after this episode, they got more development into their relationship . MOVING ONTO SEASON 3 (my favorite season of them idc)

you guys cannot lie and say that they were not cute this season. they basically confirmed that they were together! every single episode they just had that bond and it was AMAZING. especially the finale i feel like they were adorable and carried. dont get me started on bose’s birthday party??? the way chapa fangirled over awol is just clearin the facts yall.. and in 2 part episode in the beginning of season 3, i just loved them. (half of me is screaming thinking about chiles season 3) this season was really special aswell since they came back after a while of not fighting crime so it was nice to see them reunite and have them back better as ever. they shouldve gotten a episode on their own like bomika in unmasked or something.

i really dont get people saying that the new series is so "dark" and "gritty"... like, the source material has always been dark for something aimed at younger kids. i know it may not seem like it because you have those nostalgia goggles on, but it was!

mallory literally was kidnapped by gnomes because she was 'too pretty', then drugged and almost turned into an actual metal statue. the elves would have kept jared with them forever if he hadnt outsmarted them. the creatures have always been murderous, people-eating beasts. the movie just made them feel silly and not that scary for well. obvious marketing reasons. though i will admit i wasnt expecting them to have one of the main characters commit cannibalism without his knowledge and not even mention it, but! its in the folklore!

but even though the story was always a bit darker, i really didnt find the show that dark? if anything, i found the fae in it goofy a lot of the time. and if by "dark" people mean the environmentalist angle, that 1. has always been there lmao and 2. is the natural progression of things. you literally cant make a story about fae without talking about the environment.

im not saying it's perfect. i do agree we shouldve gotten more creatures, which may sound weird since the show was so mulgarath-focused, but everyone was always in their human form. thats boring! i want critters!!! little guys!!!!! i think a second season is unlikely, but if it does happen, id love it if they got tony diterlizzi to do the character design and even brought holly black in to help with the script.

anyway. literally no one cares about this and only me and idk, other 25 people have even watched the show, but as always I Must Yap

I still dont see chemistry between polin. I know Nicola is a good actress, shes been great on this show and others, she can do funny, happy, devestated - but her doing attraction is just alot of breathing and looking distressed. Not helped by Luke who is giving her NOTHING. I know people will disagree, mostly coz they think hes hot, but what a weak leading man.

On that notes, I knew this going in but what on earth is Colins arc supposed to be here? Its not helped by his characterisation being all over the place. Hes learned to not care about what others think but hes constantly slighting Pen because hes embaressed? He says hes discovered who he is by travelling but then talking about "what society expects of me"? Is his whole arc learning to not be embaressed of a woman because she hasnt always dressed well? Previous seasons werent perfect but at least the leads had clear arcs. This series is all Pen's arc and even that is pretty subtle, except for the makeover obviously.

I actually really like Francessca as a character and I really like her chemistry with this guy. Im almost 100% sure she doesnt marry him, or shes widowed at some point? Anyway, I hope they work out they're hella cute

They really need to give benedict better storylines, hes such a good character and theyre wasting him

I do appreciate Bridgerton as a show who listens to audience feedback. They changed their whitewashed cast, theyre all about consent, they are representing different body types and disabilities - I mean its totally pandering and tokenistic but most dont even both with that so

May Castellan exposition. Okay, revealing the premise of being a seer but not telling us what happened to her as a result is good. Without context from the books, we now know that something's happened to his mom and we do not know except for Luke blaming Hermes for it

Hermes parenting talk - this happens in Sea of Monsters but its nice to at least see a contrast of how he's gonna feel pre-betrayal vs post-betrayal.

Poseidon was the one who warned hermes about trying to be close to luke. Contrasting Poseidon, now, wanting to meet Percy

They past the deadline - what does this mean???

They almost forgot Grover but eventually finding him

Grover started this episode saying that his friends would never understand his personal quest to one day save the natural world, and here he is now, memories wiped except for what he wants to do with his life. And percy understands and is hopeful for him

What I'm taking from this:

There were A LOT of changes to how this scene played out in the books. I like that the kids are smart. I like that Grover got to tell Percy about his personal quest even if it was just a glimpse of it.

Should there have been a Zebra? MAYBE. I wouldve loved to see Percy talk to em but its not exactly plot relevant. Do I wish they had gotten trapped by just playing games? Yeah, but then how would they get to talk to Hermes. They would've just forgotten why they were there in the first place. Do I wish there was more action? No, not really. Do I wish the kids had flaws? THEY ALREADY DO. Grover got trapped by his own desires and personal goal over the quest he was on. Percy and Annabeth may not have shown their flaws this episode but... They already had in the past episodes. Maybe they shouldve but Im not mad that they're just... There.

I actually love that they're past the deadline and Percy has 4 pearls. Cuz it makes us wonder what would happen next. I think as book fans, we pride ourselves of knowing what happens next. Immune to any surprise. But when we do, there are 2 reactions: 1) intrigue and worry and unfortunately common, 2) despising the changes. I fall under number 1. I like that I dont know what could happen next. I know how it SHOULD go but I like that Rick is still surprising us despite knowing what could happen.

I like that we get Hermes parenting moments in this episode. Because instead of learning a sliver of why Luke betrays Percy at the end of the season at the last episode, we get a bit of exposition into his early life.

Annabeth says not to talk to Luke about his dad

Something happened to his mom and Luke hates Hermes for it

Hermes is keeping his distance because he knows that whatever he does, he's gonna end up hurting Luke

All of this sets up what will happen not just later in the books, but LATER IN THE SERIES. Rick wrote The Lightning Thief without any concrete idea of how the later books will play out. NOW HE DOES. So it makes sense to give us a way to understand Luke. To know why he makes the final decision in the book.

I would have found it weird if the gang went on the quest, got back to camp, got a sliver of Luke's opinion of the gods, then betrayal. NONE OF US WOULD UNDERSTAND. We get that he hates the gods but we won't know why. Now we do. By giving us all this material to work with, it gives its viewers the opportunity to really think, if you were in his shoes, would you have done it too? Would you be like Ethan or Chris, and joined him in that rebellion? I definitely could.

Because I for one would know that when I first read the books then reread it after, I would never even think about joining him given the context of the first book. We really only understand why he betrays the gods at like... The 5th book. When we finally get his backstory. Throughout the series, it has just been Percy hating Luke and being annoyed that Annabeth was so forgiving of him. Then on the last book, we finally get the backstory. Because, when you write in first person perspective, you cant give backstory IF the narrator is not talking to the character or is at the place where it happens. Throughout the whole series, Percy never thinks about what pushed Luke to make his decisions until, Nico had to bring Percy to where it all started. IN THE LAST BOOK. IN THE 5TH SEASON. THATS WHEN WE FINALLY GET TO UNDERSTAND WHAT MAKES LUKE CLICK.

It brings Luke out of the characterization of being someone who hates the gods and wants to overthrow them cuz they dont care about his kids. To someone who was abandoned and ignored by his father. To someone who is a victim to the gods' rules and their world (his mom). I kinda understand why he is the one leading the war here. Its cuz he's experienced one of the worst things that could happen to a demigod. Losing his mom. Getting ignored by his dad. Undervalued by the gods.

THIS ENTIRE SEASON HAS JUST BEEN SET UP FOR LUKE'S STORY. BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW... THAT IN THE LAST BOOK, RACHEL TELLS PERCY THAT HE IS NOT THE HERO OF THIS STORY. HE IS NOT THE ONE TO STOP THE WAR. LUKE IS THE HERO AT THE END OF THE SERIES. AND IT WOULD'VE BEEN WEIRD IF WE NEVER GET TO UNDERSTAND WHY UNTIL.... THE LAST BOOK.

SPEAKING OF SEASON FOUR

I'm so worried that the duffer brothers are gonna fuck up jancy. That flirting with Steve and Nancy in season four was not cute. Like jancy isn't my favorite ship in the series (because I'm in love with Jonathan but that's not the point) but we've established that Nancy DOESN'T love Steve. Did you see Jonathan's face when Nancy started talking about how Steve's grown up? You could tell it made him insecure, It's foreshadowing the love triangle all over again and there's no point in keeping it. It doesn't add to the story it's just another stupid plot for drama, which we don't really need!

It also takes away from Nancy's character!! She's not the kind of girl to just go from guy to guy. She's also not the kind of girl to flirt with her ex who's clearly still got feelings for her while she has a boyfriend!! Even if it was unintentional, like subconsciously, still she's smarter than that and she cares about Jonathan and Steve's feelings she wouldn't risk hurting the both of them at once.

I mean if we're talking about come home it could work as something for bug and Steve to work through I guess ( I don't wanna talk about it too much because it's so far away and there's a lot more we have to go through to get to that point) but it's so outside of Nancy's character. Maybe she's just confused cause she almost died and saw Steve get seriously hurt? But still Nancy isn't a homewrecker and she's not a super jealous or promiscuous person. Even if she didn't know about how close bug and Steve have grown she wouldn't go after him. But strictly speaking of stranger things now. She hardly interacted with Steve in season four, which is fair she's still in highschool and Steve has a job. They have their own shit going on. It's understandable. I feel like Nancy's character gets misconstrued a lot, partially because she keeps getting reduced to a love interest. I just hope Nancy and Jonathan don't fall apart because of how much they've changed during their time away. I love Steve but he's not right for Nancy and she's not right for Steve. I hope they Don't ruin such a great relationship with so much potential. Like I see the problems in jancy but I can see how well it could work if given the chance.

honestly it just feels like the writers dont KNOW what to do with nancy anymore or even jancy. i adore them and think theyre so sweet together but the writers are just ,,,, pissing me off. bringing back steves feelings for her and nancys weird feelings for him was just ??? unnecessary and NO ONE was asking for it

i will say however i do see the vision for stancy. i think they did have a good shot at being in love and happy, theyre right person wrong time, but if that was the plan since season 1 then ,,,, it shouldve been touched on earlier ?!?!!? we dont see nancys feelings for steve at ALL until season 4 like even WHILE THEY WERE DATING. its stupid. and like u said: nancy isnt like that !! she’d never directly hurt anyone :( shes so kind and loyal and the writers are mean

and jancy ,,, ugh they have sm potential if the writers would just figure them out. they keep having the same argument of jon wanting to care for his family and nancy wanting to uncover and explore shit its just. ugh.

for season 4 i will DEF be retconning some shit because yeah. im not dealing with a repeat love square that will be resolved literally THIS SEASON in season 2. feels so dumb to be so repetitive. i will however bring in some elements in that love triangle back in 4 but not in any definitive or dramatic way. smh

Okay this episode was EVERYTHING I hoped it would be. Stupid miscommunications, the fake couple argument, deciding they don’t feel like getting divorced AND going off into the sunset. Literally checked off EVERYTHING i had in my list of hopes for this ep (all it was missing was the cheesy romance disney ass music at the end). I wouldn’t have wanted it to turn out any other way and it cracks me tf up they still dont realize theyre married to EACH OTHER. Now, will this continue into other episodes like how we saw the ending of Pardon Our Dust didn’t seem to stay canon? Idk! I doubt its ever going to be brought up again. But in my heart and mind Beavis and Butthead are now legally married, love wins or something :] somebody go update the wiki 

So happy to see this episode finally come full circle :]

Three ships: Rylan my beloved they do no wrong. theyre the epitome of awkward bashful and honest gay summer teen romance with the perfect contrasting note of horrific life threatening monsters which is unsurpassable genre peak. and yeah ngl its pretty rare that i get behind a ship but two others i can think of are amity/luz from the owl house (but mostly in season 1 because they do cute anxious crushing stuff and after that they just kind of turn into supportive gf A and supportive gf B), and legosi/louis from beastars because how do you just gloss over neurotic homophobe slut ptsd theatre twink x weird brooding puritan loser freudian pervert and the fact that it does WORK too like hello

2. First ever ship: i wanna say gregg and angus from night in the woods?? i remember i was in that weird sexual orientation puberty where you literally know you're gay but it's not like a consciously meaningful part of your identity so i remember seeing them and thinking wow that's cool that they're boyfriends i guess idk. also i'm inexorably drawn to their existence for some reason and my lockscreen is them cuddling with the lazy morning light peeking through the curtains

3. Last song: My Kink is Karma - Chappell Roan, im a sucker for moody electronic pop and that album DELIVERS

4. Last film: i watched the first three movies in a pirates of the caribbean marathon with some friends which ngl after the first one feels like trying to suck sugar water out of a sock 😶 the last film i personally chose to watch was the 1976 Carrie! it was nice being able to watch it and appreciate it as an adult with an education and not a teen recluse going "yeah carrie you show those villain highschoolers what's what"

5. Currently (re)reading: Shakespeare's Twelfth Night! i have my old copy from highschool open next to me and the 2012 shakespeare's globe production up and i just sit and sift between watching and reading and analysing it, just like when i first learned it in class. i'm not really sure why i wanted to reread it again in the first place, but i find it kind of soothing to read older texts where the language and culture's a little ways off from its modern successors. i find it calming to kind of pull those stories back in a way we can understand with its old contexts and writing, and see more and more of that timeless human experience shine through. sudoku for english nerds i guess LOL

6. Currently watching: my watcher's stamina has actually gotten so shit im ngl like i actually haven't watched a show in months 😭😭😭 the last show i watched was bluey (which was pretty good! (and pretty indicative of the kind of attention span ive got these days 😂👌))

7. Currently consuming: this horrible like nutraloaf nightmare bowl i made because my appetite was really poor today and at 5 pm or so i was like ugh well id better eat something quick and dense if im not gonna have a proper meal so i insulted God and put together reheated smashed potato (in the microwave so they lost all their crunch and flavour) + dried roasted edamame beans + peanut butter + regular butter + cheddar + yoghurt + whole salted almonds in a bowl and had a slice of walnut fig cake as a side. that thing needed a censor bar like i was in the trenches trying to get that down im ngl. eating that meal took more energy out of me than what it gave back like i knew i made something unholy and then immediately paid for it like it was so frankenstein and his monster right there on that kitchen counter

Currently craving: literally anything after that like god damn 😭😭😭😭😭 otherwise ive been hankering for a good chana masala and naan combo cus there's literally never a day where i'll turn south asian cuisine down like aw man i shouldve just gone out and got some of that to eat today ugh god damn it

ok so i thought about it more and heres what i think about season 2.

Act I - episodes 1-3

Act II - episodes 4-7

Act III - episode 8 (maybe even 7)

I personally think that acts I and II were GOLD. For its purposes, they handled Ed's kraken arc excellently, and the healing period that ed and stede got to have. The first three episodes really take its time focusing on the characters, especially ed's arc which is such a good call. They still contain the powerful drama that exists in the first season with the run from me kraken sequence, the gravy basket, the mermaid reunion, ed and stede making up, la vie en rose. To me, everything in act I is appropriatelly paced and impactfully dramatic.

I think act III is where it all falls over. Looking at it now, what they were doing was following the three act structure traditionally with the first two acts, but having to smush the entirety of act III in episode 8. Instead of adjusting all the acts to be contained within all eight episodes, they stuck with keeping the first two intact, and having the finale episode do all the heavylifting. Which is why I have so much mixed feelings over the season as a whole, when really those first two weeks were insanely entertaining and I had full trust they'd get the story down.

The third week only got me down because of episode 7. Episode 6 was entertaining and really highlighted stede and ed's drama really well! then my feelings were :((( when episode 7 came around knowing that next week would be the finale. Act I really felt like a whole season somehow, and act II was a comfort and was necessary to give us a headsup of what was going on with ed and stede. Those two acts? Really well paced! It also felt familiar to the structure season one followed. I wouldve liked if the writers hadnt left the finale to do all the heavylifting, because honestly thats what diluted my feelings of season 2, when really the rest of it was incredible. It really feels like they stuck with the structure of their two acts and stunted down episode 8, instead of just adjusting the plot line to also accomodate for the third act. Although I think the best choice shouldve had been to adjust the plot events, I cant really complain too much when episodes 1-4 were incredibly tight and dramatic. Run from me! the mermaid scene! the entirety of episode 4! Suffice to say, they did the best they could on a slashed budget and episode count, delivered an excellent two acts but faltered on the last. I didnt mention the wacky sidelining of jim and olu's storylines (seriously wtf was that) in favor of izzy. Because really, max fucked the team over so hard. Had they been given those 10 episodes, the season's conclusion wouldve had a better impact on me the same way the intro did. But I am glad with what we got, as it was the story continuation of the story they wanted to tell.

hello just wondering (as a fresh baby hockey fan) what ur thoughts are on crosby's little tussle at the last game .. saw a lot of comments about how the rest of the team shouldve stepped up and he shouldnt have Had to fight (the word c*wards was thrown around) but the way i saw it he was just in the right place at the right time ? so to speak ? but also idk anything so

i think that it was mostly right place right time for crosby to swoop in, as he was the furthest back and everyone other then letang (who was the one who got hit initially) was in the offensive zone on the other side of the rink to follow the puck. crosby was on his way there, but he circled back into the defensive zone like a shark to lay his hits on the guy. i definitely think sid was the best person to do it, it was a good clean fight, and nobody got hurt just 2 minute minors on both sides!

here's where it gets complicated. the reason why people were calling the rest of the team cowards was because there are specific roles on a team, and sid's role isn't fighting. as the title of the video states, that was his first fight in four years because fighting is usually left up to either enforcers (which are players who usually play on the 4th line who are stronger and tougher) or defencemen (who are usually bigger and tougher then forwards are). the problem is, the first line was on the ice, and the first defensive pairing was as well, and there are no enforcers or classic "big strong defencemen" on the penguins first line who would traditionally fight. additionally, sid is getting up there in hockey age, he is 36 and a star player on his team, and some people think that means he shouldn't be expected to fight. he also has a history of jaw injuries and concussions (and extremely bad post concussion syndrome), so people worry about him fighting.

my opinion? nobody was a coward, everyone on the team is equally responsible for protecting their teammates, even if that means star players have to drop the gloves in preseason games. hockey culture around that is basically talk shit get hit, and that's exactly what happened. i don't see a problem with it, it was a good clean fight, they both got blows in, we got to watch a twink-off, end of story!

-the merge for every season except the current one (since i count the final 9 in rr as the merge) SUCKS!! theyd all be way better if their orders of elimination were flipped

-the only good gen 2 characters are staci, lightning, brick, sam, jo and s5 scott

-jasmine or sky shouldve been left on the island instead of dave (or leave ella and scarlett there in the max vs sugar finale that we shouldve got)

-dramarama had the only good theme song of the franchise. oh and all the world tour songs suck.

-kitty/mickey/taylor wouldve been a better love triangle than any ones we actually got

im really hoping mike gets vecna'd next season. honestly theres nothing revolutionary or (imo) particularly interesting about vecna pulling the "i know your secret, how shameful" with will because it's been pretty clear hes gay + in love with mike since season 3. but when was the last time we got insight into how mike is really feeling? sure you have the s4v2 monologue but thats only one part of the equation and was also shared under EXTREME duress. we see wayyyyy less of mike's internal journey than will. considering he was our audience surrogate and main protagonist for s1+2, its strange we've become so disconnected from him. its much more interesting to reveal the internal thoughts of a character who's been relatively (and unusually) guarded. im hoping the reason we've seen less of mike is to make that eventual insight---probably at the hands of vecna---all the more rewarding.

i think i shouldve specified i dont think its gonna be him getting #chrissycrumbled or like the relationship vecna had w his victims in s4, but i can def see the party having to go into the UD and vecna tormenting all of them with visions etc. like can u imagine lucas getting visions of max and getting taunted w his guilt while vecna goes full homophobic dog on mike? i think itd be interesting to see
