it is once again bone broth thursday

#that was rice pudding in the video but i'm making stock now #i'm doing this cool new thing where i'm taking out the chicken skins instead of making oily broth. shouldve just separated them #making fucking schmaltz i guess! schmaltz wednesday. in my tiny cast iron. whose seasoning has absolutely gone to hell maybe this will help #one thing about me is if you don't tell me exactly what temperature to anneal the iron to polymerize the oil then i'm going to do it wrong

Too Much Tea

#im having one of my classic colds where my sinuses try desperately to become fully obstructed and develop Eternal Bacterial Sinusitis #and the best way to deal with it is to just keep pouring hot liquids on and/or through my face #but. it is too hot to take more than a couple hot showers a day #and i am Growing Weary of Tea #tea is fine! i have a niceish jasmine green that's heavy on the jasmine and it's not getting less pleasant over time #but i do feel. bored.#next time i get hungry i'll switch to instant ramen with extra broth but for the moment it's just Tea Forever #and because im a moron i didnt think to get lemons and i dont really want to go helpfully distribute virus to everyone in the whole foods #and/or try to keep it together while attempting to mouthbreathe through a mask and having respiratory infection suffocation flashbacks #so i will have to wait until 🌸 gets back to switch to various honey-and-lemon/tea combinations #titrated assortedly. for interest.#box opener #like this works. i can actually breath through my nose rn. it's functioning. but im bored #id like to take a half hour break from tea but i Will start choking again if i do that. so here we are

It could just be that I hadn't eaten anything but a banana all day since breakfast, but this was a transcendental ramen

#i asked the hostel owner where to get dinner and then promptly forgot his directions #this place had good reviews and was close by #the proprietor saw me lurking anxiously outside the door and said Don't be scared! We have seats!#which in any other circumstance would cause me to flee except I'd already decided to eat there and WAS scared of no seats #i am picky about soups and this broth was amazing #ramen #Japanese food #noodles #tokyo

actually one of the things about perpetually online ppl that rly annoys me is how they blindly adopt communism as an inverse of capitalism and call themselves a "communist" (i mostly see this w gen z age ppl that live in the us) as a way to say that they hate america when they really have no idea how badly communism decimated eastern european countries and their possibilities to grow into a stable economic state

#i joke abt this but it's literally the truth: communism made me autistic #in the very late 90s when ukraine had just separated from the ussr they were very much a third world country #vodka and alcohol was cheaper and more available than fresh water and it resulted in many children being born with #fetal alcohol syndrome and other birth defects and this of course led to orphanages being overcrowded and underfunded #in the orphanage where i was kept before i was adopted the nurses and aides didnt even have real baby food to feed us #they gave us watered down tea and broth for food and ofc this made us malnourished on top of whatever other issues we had health wise #so the next time you want to be super edgy or whatever actually take some time to critically think about the long term effects that communi #has had in our society and in countries that have not had the ability to thrive economically

making chicken n dumplings again and I made too big a batch of dumpling dough so I tossed the leftovers in the oven and cooked them up like biscuits. 10/10 would recommend

#I make my dumplings with lard not butter so they didn’t come out all flaky like good biscuits but they still taste alright #I’ve been in hot pursuit of the platonic ideal of chicken & dumplins for the last two months and it’s looking like the best version #involves making gravy in a separate pan and then adding it in at the end. for extra creaminess #but I still don’t have the exact proportions right. I think just slightly less broth next time will get it about where I want it

Danny, I can't believe how much talent a single person can contain within himself! Is there anything that seems impossible for you? Diving? Welding? Cooking maybe?

real talk for a minute here i swim and i'm a subpar swimmer but that's not really the point cuz sometimes while drawing i got on deep heavy uncontrollable binges of that "CAVE DIVING GONE WRONG!!!" content. you know like three hour videos of compilations of the various ways in which people found themselves in desperate trouble bcuz they decided to dive into a cave and either ran out of air, a cave in happened, or their lines got mixed up and they couldn't find their way out. truly horrific stuff. sounds terrifying. I WANT TO GO SPELUNKING SOOO BAD. i want to be that guy. not the guy who dies obviously but like i want to go swim thru a cave. i fucking love caves. they're so neat man. and like caving while swimming?? my favorite non-drawing activity?? uh yeah please thank you. c'mon.

as for the cooking comment i think i'm a pretty tip-top cook. like it's edible and it's seasoned and well it's fairly yummy. my fiancee and i have different palettes though and whereas they're the kind of person who needs something new pretty frequently, i could eat the same meal every day forever. so it makes cooking *for the house* hard. however if you're looking for a really cheap, affordable, DELICIOUS recipe, might i recommend canned tuna, some ramen noodles, and some frozen broccoli and cauliflower. cook the tuna in a pan while your noodles and veggies boil, toss it altogether, and season it however you please. i use a combo of garlic, onion, and curry powder, not to mention black pepper. also add a dash of paprika and if you're the spicy type, chili powder. also a tiny bit of chicken broth if you have it. MWAH. beautiful. but okay you read that and tell me if i'm a cook or not lmao

anyway realistically not that talented idk where this insane ask came from but thank you!!!

the problem w growing up ashkie is that i have ridiculously high standards for what makes good matzo ball soup. and ordering it from somewhere else when i'm sick and unable to make my own runs the strong risk of being disappointing

You should try Brawn. It is the left over bits of a pig boiled with a few veges and loads of herbs etc so it creates its own aspic, you pull out the meat, chop it into little bits, and then put it and the liquid aspic into a pan, let it cool, slice up, and eat. You often have it on bread and with condiments. Tasty and thrifty
