▣ Did you know that the scene in Lady and the Tramp when Lady pops out of the hatbox on Christmas is inspired by a true story?

While Walt and Lilly Disney celebrated Christmas Eve with family at their home, Walt snuck the puppy into a hatbox, topped it with a large bow, and slipped it under the tree. Lilly was given the box and was, at first, rather disappointed: she loved to buy her own hats. Suddenly, the box moved, and Lilly screamed as a little puppy poked its head out! From that moment on, Lilly was smitten with the dog they named Sunnee, never letting him leave her sight.

1941 - Disney animators went on strike after Walt Disney refused to let his workers unionize. The workers were angry about unfair policies on pay and benefits. On the picket line the animators lynched and guillotined an effigy of Walt Disney himself.

After four months Walt Disney caved to the demands and let the workers unionize, striking a deal which included the reinstatement of employees fired before the strike, equalization of pay, a clearer salary structure and a grievance procedure. Cartoon Brew: "Walt Disney Animation Studios Remote Workers File To Unionize With The Animation Guild"

History was made this week when a group of 10 Walt Disney Animation Studios remote workers in six states filed to unionize with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) and The Animation Guild, IATSE Local 839.

The workers requested union recognition from the studio and have filed with the National Labor Relations Board for an official unionization election.

This is the first time remote workers have attempted to unionize with TAG, and according to the union, the movement marks a significant shift in IATSE and TAG’s strategies as the organizations work to protect as many animation workers as possible.
