Windows 11: Missing Features from Windows 10
Take care before moving to Windows 11, as you may lose access to some familiar features from Windows 10. Here’s a detailed list of features from Windows 10 that users commonly feel are missing or changed for the worse in Windows 11: Taskbar Changes: Taskbar Customization: Drag-and-drop to the taskbar is missing. You cannot move the taskbar to the top, left, or right of the screen as it is fixed…

Woo got Linux working! On a related note I have gotten over any fear of breaking things through the command line and also can now roll back to an earlier system backup. Yes those are related. In my defense, breaking things in interesting ways is a great way to figure out what's actually going wrong.

OH, in other news I finally got genshin running on linux with no graphical issues. It was annoying- I really hope mihoyo considers official linux support once windows 10 reaches end of life in october- but that means I'm no longer tied to windows 10 myself \o/ good riddance

windows/linux rant
unrelated to SMT or anything on my blog currently I guess...
I keep seeing the "prep for windows 11" thing show up on my computer, and it upsets me every time that you have to have a microsoft account to install it.
windows 10 reaches end of support next year~~
I hope by then the computer I"m using will actually let me run linux on it instead of an outdated windows os....
I want to run linux on this machine so bad but whenever I try to install it, it seems to install fine and dandy
and then it won't boot
I've snooped around in the BIOS, disabled the "smart startup" or "secure startup" or whatever else I thought was borking the boot for linux.
but it still won't boot~~~
and sadly i've got games on here that only work on windows anyway.
I'd much rather be able to stay relatively safe online and maintain an OS, than play the games I bought on steam....
something is preventing linux from booting on this machine, it upsets me when I think about it, and it upsets me more when I try to install linux and it goes fine, but then doesn't boot
cause I have to take the time to reinstall windows again.....
why computer? why won't you let linux boot? what do I need to do to you to have linux actually boot? I don't understand...
*confused screaming*
running an ASUS ROG Stryx gaming pc that I bought on impulse years ago. so you'd think linux mint would boot just fine, right??
how do I fix it? if I can fix it? especially if I don't destroy the data on the second hard drive of this thing. I've got stuff I don't want to lose on here, preferably....

I try not to make being a hater my entire personality
Cuz being a hater isn't something to be proud of
Its disgusting and cringe
However
I hate windows 11
Its so bad it literally doesn't work on native systems
Like you buy a new laptop. It comes with windows 11. And then windows 11 doesn't work on the computer that was sold with windows 11.
Windows 11 sucks 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
Computer elitists want us to buy new computers so they can break them because the old computers were too sturdy
Hate you hate you hate you hate you

Quick Newsflash
After much blood sweat and tears, the Jazz Hands half of our operations has got Sims 3 finally working again.
What was crucial was the Lazy Duchess Alder Lake patch (or whatever it's called).
Now for the plot twist.
Your humble narrator is using a desktop which is using the same processor, an Intel i9-14900KF, as the one that has just about reduced the other half to tears trying to get to work. Yet only they had to use the Lazy Duchess patch to get the game to work. Figure that one out.
Other half is now about to enter the following phrase of switching from a Windows 10 compliant laptop to a Windows 11 compliant laptop to run Sims 3 on ...

You'd think that because windows is the most used OS in the world it'd at least be good but no why did I just spend 2 hours trying to get it's own programs to not take up 90% of my laptops memory & cpu 😭

i thought my laptop was on its last leg because it was running at six billion degrees and using 100% disk space* at all times and then i turned off shadows and some other windows effects and it was immediately cured. i just did the same to my roommate's computer and its performance issues were also immediately cured. okay. i guess.
so i guess if you have creaky freezy windows 10/11 try searching "advanced system settings", go to performance settings, and uncheck "show shadows under windows" and anything else you don't want. hope that helps someone else.
*yes sorry i mean usage i posted this before bed :( i do not mean the hard drive is full aaaaghhhh

Computer help
Oh wise simmers of Tumblr, may I ask for advice?
My computer is about 9 years old and won't support Windows 11 when security support ends for Windows 10 later this year. So I'm looking at building a new computer (or at least upgrading most of the components of this one so it will basically be a new computer).
Advice please on:
Making Sims 2 work with Windows 11 (I've read about lots of people having problems with 10 but I've never had any issues)
Installing on a new computer with disks (I've read that this might be an issue? My new computer will obviously have a disk drive)
Specifically a Ryzen 5700G CPU and its "intergrated" RX Vega 8 graphics
I know that Sims 2 can be weirdly random so I can't guarantee it'll work before I start but it would be good to hear from anyone with similar experience, or if anyone knows a way of checking whether this will work.
If anyone has more followers than me and would reblog to reach them, that would be much appreciated too!
Thank you!
