Obstacles in front of you, what's their purpose?
So here we are at the midpoint, some call it Humpday, and yet when obstacles get in our way, do you ever wonder why? Do you ever consider their purpose and what you are supposed to learn through it? Have you considered them to be teaching moments and turned to God for wisdom and discernment as to what to gain from it and how to deal with it? Do you think you’ve been there and done that and don’t…

When Pain Speaks Louder Than Friends
Thru the Bible in a Year Reading through Job 29–33 today, I found myself deeply moved, not just by Job’s suffering, but by how it brought out the clearest portrait yet of his faith, confusion, and dignity in affliction. These chapters represent a turning point. Job is no longer sparring with his three accusatory friends. He lays down his final lament, and a new voice, Elihu, rises with both…

Psalm 1 | The Two Paths: The Righteous and the Wicked
The Verses “Blessed is the person who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,Nor stand in the path of sinners,Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the Law of the Lord,And on His Law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree planted by streams of water,Which yields its fruit in its seasonAnd its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers. The wicked…

Reading Psalms and Meditations (Ps. 1)
I sometimes feel like a dinosaur. I live in a world that produces books by the millions every day and yet fewer and fewer people read. They listen sometimes though. And so because some will listen, I offer these simple readings of Psalms and short reflections. The reflections are not poetry. They are “poetic-ish.” But what they lack in art, I hope they will make up for in clarity and the opening…

Ramayana No. 19: Revisiting the Ramayana with Venkatesananda’s Take: Lessons from Valmiki’s Experience
As we begin our exploration of the Ramayana through Venkatesananda’s version, it’s fascinating to revisit the early stages of this epic tale, particularly through the lens of Valmiki’s own transformation. In this version, we are reminded of how the sage first heard the Ramayana from Narada and later expanded upon it after a transformative experience with the hunter and his divine encounter with…

Captain’s Log
Star date 2024.02.13
Day 6
“Dad, what’s insight?”
“It’s when you can see past the surface of a problem—you can see inside and figure out why things are happening the way they are.”
“Is that good?”
“It’s good, but it is also annoying because even though you can see, you can’t make other people see.”
“Should I want this?”
“Solomon says it is better to see than to walk in darkness, so it’s better to have insight than to not have it, but it definitely comes with it’s challenges.”

I love this conversation. Being able to have it with my son makes this whole process worthwhile. Each day we are together, we become stronger than we were before—myself included. I am beginning to see this period as a blessing and to enjoy each part of it.
Time for me to get to work.
