It's Warhammer facts time!

The food most commonly eaten by Imperial citizens is corn. Regular, average sweet corn that we eat IRL, in all its different forms. It's one of the few plants that survived the destruction of Terra's ecology, largely thanks to how it can grow almost anywhere. It's been a staple of offworld human colonies since humanity first colonized the stars tens of thousands of years ago.

Agri-worlds are planets that have had the majority of their landmass flattened into continent-sized agricultural fields. The Imperium uses these endless fields to ship food to all the hungry planets of the galaxy. Of course, this is the Imperium we're talking about. They do not practice sustainable farming on a planetary scale. Every single Agri-world is eventually doomed to have its soil collapse from over-production. Many inhospitable and barren planet that has some tiny shred of human population living on it were once agri-worlds that were farmed to death.

The meat that MOST people eat, if they're lucky, is grox meat. Groxes are large lizards that have been domesticated and bred on agri-worlds in countless number. Like corn, they can live just about anywhere, so are perfect to be shipped to any part of the galaxy.

Corpse Starch is a bit of a meme because it's not REALLY eaten by that many people in the galaxy. Only the truly desperate and downtrodden citizens in the worst hive cities have eaten it. And is often used as an emergency food ration for soldiers when zero other supplies are available. As its name implies, corpse starch is the ground-up remains of dead people, processed into tasteless sludge packed into tin cans. Its whole existence is a meme referencing Soylent Green. In fact, corpse starch is also known as "soylent veridian" in some parts of the galaxy, if the reference wasn't blatant enough.

Games Workshop's official stance is that Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy/Age of Sigmar are completely separate universes with no real crossovers. This stance was a little different in the past, with lots of little cheeky references in old codexes and magazine articles. Such as the non-canon notion that the entire 40k galaxy is actually contained in a bottle on the shelf of a wizard's tower.

BUUUUUUT - ever since Doom Eternal came out, the stance seems to have followed a path similar to how the Doom franchise treats hell. There is only one warp, only one sea of souls that connects all life, and all life across multiverses. The four chaos gods are constant because they are the same four beings in the warp, although they are viewed by very different lenses depending on where an observer thinks of them. Their greatest daemons likewise can appear in any reality the gods wish them to be, though the daemons themselves are unaware of how they're being used as toys. That's why you can play as Skarbrand/Kairos/Kugath/Nkari in Total War Warhammer 3, and also have those daemons on the tabletop in a 40k game.

Likewise, there is a character with an identical name, design and backstory in both fantasy and 40k. Be'lakor was the first ever champion of chaos. From an ancient unknown land, he was the first to gain their favor, and was forever transformed into an immortal daemon prince with immense power. But the gods quickly realized they gave him too much power, and his ambition and evil proved a threat to their grand design. So Be'lakor has forever been cursed to be toyed with by the gods, his schemes for revenge and domination always thwarted. In Fantasy he was even forced to crown another person the everchosen, and watched that man literally destroy the world.

And if you like Richard Armitage's voice, he did the voice acting for Be'lakor in Total War Warhammer 3. Just saying.

gem and pearl have been doing things together for years! i believe their first shared series was legacy s1, which as far as i know was predominantly stream only, and neither one of them have the vods saved. however, most people into shiny duo these days don’t really include legacy regardless, since it was quite a few years ago and gem and pearl were both much smaller youtubers, so it’s not super known.

the next series they shared is one still talked about a good bit today, which was empires s1, starting in 2021! every creator built up their own kingdom, and gem played as the ruling wizard of the crystal cliffs while pearl was the farmer queen of gilded helianthia. just a short while into empires, hermitcraft s8 started, and gem and pearl joined as the newest members! while they weren’t proper base neighbors, the season as a whole had a lot of interactions between people, so gem and pearl hung out a fair bit. both series ran in tandem.

a few months after hermitcraft s8 ended, s9 began, and this time, gem and pearl based right next to each other as part of the soul group, along with impulse! pearl built up an alien biome while gem was am elven princess, and there are lots of fun shenanigans to be had across the different storylines in the season, such as when the soup group rebelled against king ren’s reign, or the hermitcraft x empires s2 (which gem was a part of but pearl was not) crossover.

gem and pearl were both on the short-lived new life smp, but from what i remember, they didn’t interact much. right at the end of hermitcraft s9, secret life smp started up, which was gem’s debut in the life series, and it has a TON of shiny duo content. though you don’t have to watch the life seasons in order, i’d highly recommend watching secret life first, since shiny duo’s relationships in the later seasons are built off of it.

hermitcraft s10 is the current season, and gem and pearl love nothing more than bothering each other whenever possible—seriously, there’s so much content. through s10’s run, there have also been three life seasons, though two of them were one-off april fool’s specials: real life smp and simple life smp. the latest canon life season was wild life, which ended a few months ago, and shiny duo’s dynamic within it is fantastically fun.

this got a little long, but i hope it answers your question! there are years of shiny duo content, but don’t feel intimidated—it’s far easier to approach if you take it one series/season at a time, and don’t feel obligated to watch them all! though i’d recommend watching the life series in order due to how past seasons influence later ones, the same isn’t true for hermitcraft; save for an odd joke or reference here and there, the seasons aren’t connected, and don’t need to be watched in order to understand. happy shiny duo-ing!

A guide for people who want to watch Detective Conan legally

Detective Conan is one of my favorite shows out there. Unfortunately in America it’s a little hard to find legal places to watch it. So I thought I’d make this guide to help people out! Keep in mind this is from the perspective of an American. Also I’ll be pointing out some methods that require vpns. If I missed anything let me know and I’ll update this post!

The show

1-123 and 754-current (crunchy roll) [subs only]: probably the most well known source to get episodes of the show. It also adds new episodes every week so you’ll be able to keep up with the show. The only downside with crunchy roll is its massive gap in episodes and no access to the dubbed version.

1-123 (funimation DVDs) [subbed and dubbed] - to my knowledge this is the only way to access the original funimation dub. Some of the DVDs can be cheap if you find them used, but if you don’t want to buy them there’s a good chance your local library has them.

1-510* (Pops anime Asia YouTube channel) [subbed] {vpn needed} - for a fairly good chunk of episodes you can use a vpn to connect to Singapore servers and access the pops anime Asia YouTube channel. At the time of writing this they only have up to episode 510 but they add more episodes every week. One of the biggest downsides to this though is there’s a small water mark in the top left and right corners and you can’t turn the subtitles off. So if you’re trying to get footage for screen shots or videos this isn’t the best source.

1-1129* (billibilli) [subbed] {vpn needed} - once again useing a VPN to access Singapore servers you can use billibilli to access every detective Conan episode with subtitles! (It’s not as up to date as crunchy roll but it updates every Saturday, also it uses the international number system) I only found out about this recently so it was really helpful to know. To my knowledge billibilli is sort of the Chinese equivalent of YouTube/Tubi so it’s free to use! You can also turn subtitles off and the watermark isn’t on any of the footage itself so it’s great for getting screenshots and videos!

Movies

1-26 (Netflix) [subbed] {vpn needed} at the time of writing this the Conan movies are being added to Netflix in certain Asian countries. I know this includes Singapore but I’m not sure where else, I know it’s available in other countries though I just don’t have a full list. The only big downside to this is there isn’t a dub here. Also no movie 27 and obviously no movie 28 since they’re both the most recent movies.

1-6 (funimation DVDs) [subbed and Dubbed] - to my knowledge this is the only way to get these movies in America without a vpn. Unfortunately if you’re looking to buy these DVDs they can be quite expensive. Especially last wizard of the century! However you might be able to find them at your local library, especially if their catalog connects to lots of different libraries.

19-25 episode one special, and the Lupin crossovers (Prime video, i tunes/Apple TV, google play store, YouTube movies, and blu ray) [subbed and dubbed] - Some of the newer movies have recently been dubbed and they are all available to rent/buy on the platforms I listed above. Movies 19-23, the Episode One Special and the Lupin crossovers also have blu rays available. They are out of print but you’re able to get them at a pretty good price via the crunchy rolls store! Unfortunately movies 24 and 25 don’t have blu rays to my knowledge so you’ll have to get them digitally. This version of the dub is pretty solid and keeps more to the original script, unlike the funimation dub which would change names and script elements(I still adore the funimation dub though). Definitely check these out as it seems like we’re going to keep getting new movies every year.

Miscellaneous stuff

Zeros tea time and the culprit hanzawa are available on Netflix both subbed and dubbed. I especially recommend checking out hanzawa as it’s a pretty fun time.

Something else I’d like to include here is games! There’s really only been one game that’s been officially translated but there have been a few games that have fan translations! I won’t go too much into them due to the whole legal gray area of them, but I just wanted more people to know about them.

Mirapolis investigation (Wii)[europe only] - the only official translation of a Conan game and it’s only available in Europe unfortunately.

Cafae Latte / Harry Potter Crossover idea

I had an idea for the CaFae Latte and Harry Potter crossover. Basically, the Dursleys (who are in America for some reason I don’t know) end up at CaFae Latte. They pitch a fit and get cursed, Harry learns that magic exist early. Feedback is welcome.

Now for the lore discrepancies. Harry Potter and CaFae Latte obviously have very different lore. This next lore dump is heavily inspired by and incorporates ideas form Marshflower’s A Complaining Muggle series on Tik Tok.

The Statute of Secrecy has always been difficult to keep, which became even more difficult in the late 1860’s and early 1870’s. By the 1960’s and 70’s many countries are repealing the Statue of Secrecy during the Fae Rights moment (Cafae Latte lore). Skip to modern age and in most places the Statute of Secrecy is only enforced in a hand full of countries, like Britain. No one really knows why Britain still dose this to themselves. Because of this they have low numbers of werewolves, vampires, fairies, and other such magical creatures.

So, why is Britain like this? This is because their society is mostly run by (white) pure blood wizards, with a foundation in wizard supremacy.

Here’s an excerpts:

“Excuse me, are you the one who cast a curse on my Aunt and Uncle?” The little boy asked.

“Uh, no. You want the boss, give me a second,” Cyrus said, “Boss! There’s a kid looking for you! He says yo cursed his Aunt and Uncle!”

“Just a moment,” Bob finished her next order, and shy and Cyrus switched places, “Hello there. You said you are here because I’ve cursed your Aunt and Uncle?”

“Yes Ma’am, I have some questions,”

“What kind of questions?”

“If you cursed them, dose that mean magic is indeed real,”

“So, uhm. Everyone says you’re a fairy, but my Aunt and Uncle said fairies aren’t real,”

“I am a fairy. In fact I do believe those kinds of comments are what got them cursed,”

“So, can only fairies do magic?”

“No, humans can do magic, but faeries are typically far more powerful,”

“So, when my teacher’s hair turned blue. That was actually my fault?” He asked.

“Well, that is some particularity strong magic for your age, but it’s not entirely impossible. But you came here to ask if magic exist, and by your accent I’d say you’re British,” Bob said.

“I am ma’am,”

“Then I believe you are what we call in Ameirca, a sorcerer,”

“Sor-cer-er,” He says slowly.

“This means you have a particularly strong ability to do magic without training. Typically, it’s more common for it to run in the family, but it dose sometimes happen without that family connection,” Bob explained. She could see the gears turning in his head.

“Dose that mean, I’m never going to be normal,”

“Normal is completely meaningless. But I assume you’re talking about your magical outburst. They will peter out with time and training,”

“Training?”

“Yes. I believe the UK has a standardized school for sorcerers, they’ll probably reach out to you when you are 10 or 11, but this town has a lot of magical resources,”

“Really, there is?”

“Yes, I can give you a few names and your parents can take you,”

“Thank-you ma’am, but I don’t have any parents,”

“I’m sorry to hear that, I guess you are living with your aunt and uncle,”

“Yes ma’am,”

“Well then, for the next seven years may you have good luck and good health,” Bob blessed them before writing down a few names and addresses.

Which one of your current of previous fandoms do you think would make the best crossover with ACOTAR? Why? What would it look like?

Hands down, Forgotten Realms. (Note, I throw Baldur's Gate under that heading since the stories take place in that universe.)

One, because it's high fantasy and that concept makes it easier for people to, say, get between worlds. Two, with very minor adjustments, characters from either fandom could do very well in the other (there's no major tech differences between them, FR is connected to the Feywild so faeries aren't a shocking or new concept, both have magic...) About the biggest thing I see being shocking to someone from Prythian would be the VAST increase in size of the world). And three, because I think that FR and it's extensive worldbuilding (by extensive I mean exhaustive) would do a lot to smooth over the gaps left open by SJM.

Now - how would I DO it? I've thought of 2 ways:

(1) The Harp. That one is kind of low hanging fruit, though. Someone twangs it in a moment of self preservation and wakes up in the city of Warerdeep, a student at Blackstaff Academy. - and so many more!

(2) Elain getting wacky. This one bears some context: a long, long, loooooong time ago when I did WoW RP, I played a Mathemagician: a Diviner turned Chronomancer by basically doing magical stats and altering the odds of events to make them happen. Once, n a fit of magical pique, she decided to EAT TIME. Doing so found her in a liminal space, which I very creatively called The Space Between Spaces. But! It did basically allow her to step into different timelines to see how things MIGHT have been.

Anyway - imagine Elain does similar, walks through a door into the Realms, and then gets lost?

I've actually kicked around writing a crossover like this, because my knowledge of FR is VASTLY better than my ACOTAR world knowledge.
