Cheka's high-pitched voice rang through the room, begging Leona to play with him. Leona's eyes narrowed in annoyance as he lounged on bed, not even bothering to look down at him.

"Unca Leona, come on! Let's play!" Cheka pleaded, tugging at Leona's arm.

Leona let out an exasperated sigh. "Cheka, I've already told you, I don't want to play right now. Why don't you go bother someone else?" he said, closing his eyes and leaning back on the couch.

"But I wanna play with you!" Cheka whined, pouting his lip.

"I'm busy, Cheka. Go play with someone else," Leona grumbled, not wanting to be bothered with the young boy's antics.

But just as Cheka's bottom lip began to tremble, Y/N walked into the room. Leona's demeanor changed slightly, a small smirk appearing on his lips.

Leona smirked at Y/n. "Ah, Your timing couldn't be more perfect," he said, teasingly.

Y/N rolled their eyes, used to Leona's antics by now. "Have you been avoiding Cheka again?" they asked, sitting down next to him.

Leona let out a long sigh. "He just never gives up. I can't even take a nap without him bothering me," he grumbled.

Y/N chuckled. "Well, you are his favorite uncle," they pointed out.

Leona grunted in response, not really in the mood to argue. "Anyway, I was hoping you could watch him for a bit. I really need to catch up on some sleep," he said, practically shoving Cheka towards Y/N.

Y/N sighed but nodded. "Sure, I'll keep an eye on him," they agreed, standing up from the couch.

Cheka's face lit up at  Y/N. “Y/N! Let's play together!" he exclaimed, tugging at their hand.

Y/N chuckled softly and nodded, taking Cheka's hand and leading him off to play.

Leona watched as Cheka and Y/n disappeared out of the room before settling back into the couch. He lets out a sigh of relief, finally able to relax without the young boy pestering him. 

A while later, Cheka burst back into the room, excitement written all over his face. "Unca Leona, come play with us!" he begged, tugging on Leona's arm.

Leona let out an annoyed sigh, but before he could refuse, Y/N interjected. "Come on, Leona. It won't hurt to play a little." Y/N said with a smile. “Actually, we were just about to play, but Cheka was certain we needed you too." they asked, gesturing towards the pile of items on their hands.

Cheka's eyes lit up. "Yes, yes, yes!" he exclaimed, running towards Y/n.

Leona rolled his eyes, but he begrudgingly got up from the couch. "Alright, herbivore. I'll play with you guys." he said, getting up and following Cheka and Y/N to where they were playing.

Leona hated that his nap had been interrupted, but he couldn't help but feel a little grateful to Y/N for taking some of the pressure off of him. As they all started playing together, Leona found himself watching Y/N more than playing. He loved the way they smiled and laughed, and the way their eyes lit up with excitement.

As the game progressed, Cheka suddenly announced that they were going to play wedding. "Leona and Y/N are getting married!" he declared, holding up two dolls.

Leona's face turned a little red at the mention of marriage, especially with Y/N. He tried to brush it off ,but felt a little embarrassed as Cheka placed a makeshift veil over Y/n's head. He tried to hide his smile by pretending to look annoyed, but he couldn't resist the small smirk that tugged at the corners of his lips.

Y/n, on the other hand, felt a deep blush creeping up their neck. They had never expected to be in this kind of situation with Leona, especially not in front of Cheka.

Cheka continued to drag Leona and Y/N along with his wedding charade, not realizing the effect it was having on the two of them. Y/N and Leona were getting increasingly embarrassed as the game progressed, but Cheka was too stubborn to give up.

"Come on, Unca Leona, you have to kiss the bride now!" Cheka declared with a wide grin on his face, holding a small bouquet of flowers in his tiny hands.

Leona's smug expression wavered for a moment as he looked at Y/N. He had feelings for them . "I won't bite, herbivore," he teased, leaning down to give Y/N a quick peck on the cheek.

Y/N blushed furiously at the gesture, and Cheka clapped his hands in delight. "See, Unca Leona likes the bride!" he exclaimed.

Leona rolled his eyes, trying to regain his composure. He was about to protest further when Cheka suddenly turned to him with a serious expression. "Unca Leona, do you love Y/N?"

Leona felt his cheeks flush at the question. He wasn't expecting Cheka to be so blunt. "That's none of your business, kid," he replied, trying to sound nonchalant.

Cheka, however, was not deterred. "I think you do love them," he said with conviction. "And I think Y/N loves you too."

"What do you mean, Cheka?" Leona asked, trying to hide the panic in his voice.

Cheka nodded earnestly. "You look at Y/N just like how daddy  looks at mommy. And you talk a lot about Y/N at home. They are your special person, aren't they?" Cheka said, his eyes wide with excitement.

Leona felt his heart skip a beat at the words. He had been trying to keep his feelings for Y/N a secret, but now he was starting to wonder if they felt the same way. He turned to Y/N, who was also blushing, and felt a smirk forming on his lips.

"Looks like the kid's got it all figured out," he said, his voice low and smug. "Maybe we should make this wedding official after all."

Y/N looked up at him with a mixture of surprise and affection, and Leona couldn't help but feel a rush of warmth in his chest. Maybe it was time to stop pretending and finally tell them how he felt.

"You know what, Cheka?" he said, pulling Y/N closer. "I think you might be onto something. Let's make this wedding real." And with that, he leaned in to give Y/N a real kiss, finally confessing his feelings for them.

As he pulled back, he caught Y/N's eye, and something in the way they were looking at him made his heart skip a beat.

"Actually," he whispers in Y/n’s ear, his voice low and smug. "I might just have to take a bite out of you after all."

Hatake Clan Lore

I cannot for the life of me remember if I ever posted my Hatake lore head canon but it's been bouncing around in my brain so fuck it here we go -

also not that I anticipate this but people get touchy about this stuff so - if you disagree with me so strongly that you feel the need to yell at me about it, please save your energy; I literally cannot express to you how disinterested I am in engaging with that kind of thing it's just anime you'll be ok pookie

Clan History

Before the First Shinobi War, the Hatake clan was a largely pacifist group unaffiliated with nation or creed. They started out as nomadic but eventually settled into farming & hunter/gatherer communities across the Land of Fire. Though they had no kekkei genkai develop, they did have some persistent clan traits that were easy to spot. Particularly, ancestral traits of early people would remain dominant through generations instead of recessing, such as sensitivity to smells and seasons, characteristics like coarser hair, sharper teeth, longer nails or limbs, and instincts that aligned with the native fauna. This allowed them to live in harsher conditions than the newly settling villages and clans, gave them the ability to self-sustain and develop natural affinity for the wilds of the elements, and eventually, aided in the use and presentation of various chakra natures in some of their clan members.

The Hatakes were small in number and fiercely independent of other clans and families, despite being extremely tight-knit in their own communities; they were not necessarily unwelcoming, rather, they lived very differently from the newly forming clan powers, and were not interested in the quarrels of man. However, due to their reluctance to ally and the growing strains between larger war clans and families, they didn't stand much of a chance when major conflicts began to arise.

When the first war finally began, the already sparse farming and hunting communities of the Hatake clan became widely dispersed as lands were torn up in battle or claimed by other families; they were displaced or absorbed into warring clans over time - some Hatake had already been taken in by the Senju, while some sought refuge with the Uchiha, only to face each other on the battlefield and recognize their clan members in the heat of battle - the wild hair, the piercing eyes, the way they would fight with teeth and claw and kunai over complex justu or weaponry.

By the time the first war ended, there were very few Hatake left to remain in tact as a clan. Many had died in battle, some had renounced their clan to assimilate into the powerful Senju or Uchiha, and the scarce few that remained had to make a choice - let their clan die out with them, or integrate into another.

Thus began the efforts of the Hatake to affiliate with the growing Inuzuka clan - an ally of the Senju but still independent of them, this clan had roots in the Land of Fire's villages already, and their affinity for canines and comparable clan traits and practices made for an easier approach than some of the more "domesticated" families. Even still, the reluctance of the Hatake to fully submit to the 'new world' and lose their precious way of life was enough to keep them at arm's length from the Inuzuka, their need for freedom clashing with the Inuzuka's desire to serve the new developing nations and hidden villages. As such, the remaining Hatake began to dwindle into disappearance, until there were only a handful left.

Kakashi's Family

This bit is also fully personal head canon and an idea I'd always wanted to turn into fic but could never get right; works better as a hc anyway -

By the time Sakumo and his partner, Hoeru Inuzuka, had Kakashi, the Hatake clan was gone, either fully absorbed into the Inuzuka by way of marriage or willing induction, or killed in action during the Second Shinobi War. Sakumo, along with Sakumo's elderly uncle, Kama Hatake, remained alive around the time of Kakashi's birth. Kama had sustained significant injuries during his service in the war, and had been in decline ever since, unable to recover. He never married and had no surviving family apart from Sakumo, but was extremely close to his nephew and Hoeru, particularly during her pregnancy. Hoeru herself was a fierce matriarchal member of the Inuzuka, but had deep respect for Kama and the Hatake clan's heritage - after all, despite their small size and initial reluctance to integrate, the Hatake had become a major part of the Inuzuka clan over generations, and had helped their clan to grow into a foothold in the Hidden Leaf Village.

Kama himself did his best to impart the importance of keeping their clan's memory alive in Sakumo - he would share stories and techniques passed down from his own uncles and parents, grandparents, elder clan members who had long since passed. He shared the importance of their preserved weaponry like the tanto or the kunai - highly usable, compact, and versatile for farming and hunting as well as in battle. When Hoeru was pregnant, she and Kama would spend a lot of time together, in the garden or inside reading when Kama's health began to worsen. Hoeru insisted he promise to live at least long enough to see the birth of their child, and Kama made good on this promise.

He died three days after Kakashi was born, and in his honor and out of a deep love for Sakumo, Hoeru made the choice to allow her son to keep his Hatake clan name. She and Sakumo planned to teach him the important history of their clan, and how both the Hatake and the Inuzuka had come together to help keep their wild spirit alive.

Unfortunately, Hoeru's death when Kakashi was still an infant left Sakumo heartbroken and hopeless. With his dear uncle and the love of his life both gone, being the last remaining member of his clan aside from his son brought him immense and crushing grief alongside his already significant battle with depression. Still, as the years went on, Sakumo did his best to teach his boy about their clan, and about the importance of belonging while keeping the memory of precious people alive. But the excommunication following that one fateful mission brought the final blow to his despair - and with everyone turning his back on him, with no clan, no lover, and no family, he lost the battle to his grief, leaving the only remaining Hatake clan member to be his son, Kakashi Hatake.

the one thing i feel pretty certain about for this episode is that america will not decide the election. a decision will be made, a president will be elected, but america will not be the deciding factor.

succession can’t mimic 2016 or 2020 point blank, that would be boring and have nothing to say. it can’t try to outdo trump because it’ll go too whacky and fall flat like veep’s last season (sorry conheads, no way he’s winning). but what it CAN do is illustrate the immensely corrupt, often arbitrary, and hugely influential nature of news media and conglomerations on political processes. i think probably jimenez will be in the lead, then atn/waystar does something to, i don’t know, discount votes or cast suspicion on jimenez or call the election for mencken early, and the tide will shift, even though the votes are already in. the votes don’t actually matter. the actual result doesn’t actually matter. that’s the power logan (and as an extension, billionaires and CEOs in general) hold. shiv says it herself to logan in s4e2: “just cause you say it’s true doesn’t make it true. everyone just fucking agrees with you and believes you, so it becomes true and then you can turn around and say like, 'oh, you see? see? i was right.'” but it doesn’t matter that logan’s “a human fucking gaslight,” everything he says comes true anyways. not because he was right, but because that’s how it works. he says things and then they happen, regardless of what the truth is or what should actually come to pass. that’s been one of the key throughlines since the very first episode of the entire show when, in response to kendall calling logan out of touch because times are changing and logan isn't changing with them, logan hisses that everyone always says you’re wrong until you do it and prove you were right: “you make your own reality.” you can't miss the bus if you're the one driving it. the election, the votes, the political process? none of that matters. it was always going to come down to the roys and their ilk (allies or enemies, just the top 1%) — that was the whole point of “what it takes” (the mencken episode) last season, after all.

i’ve seen lots of theories about what america will choose and how the candidates will respond and all that and i just don’t think that’s the show’s focus; i think the whole point is to demonstrate the lack of agency, the illusion of democracy. because, i mean, we’ve already seen the fall of democracy via fascist election and fascist election-denial, both in real life and in the countless (usually mid) satires created afterwards. it would be disappointing to see succession use the election to reiterate that same point of 'ohhh alt-right ahhhhh!!!' i don’t think it’ll be about ‘fascism’ at all — at least, not ‘trump-y’ fascism. it’ll be about fascism in the broader sense, the kind that doesn't sport a KKK hood (even when it keeps one tucked away in the attic). it's the fascism that every single roy (very much including shiv and kendall) aid and abet -- the fascism that so many succession fans don't seem to regard as fascism, despite it quite literally being the definition of fascism. trump wasn’t the entrance of fascism into our political process. he wasn’t the lone sign of the failing of american democracy. democracy in america has long been illusory, trump just made it more blatantly evident with his particular brand of hate-speech-ridden masculinist in-your-face fascism.

so i think that’s what this episode will hopefully focus on — america will not decide. corporations, news media, and the roys will. thus, the president will most likely become president not because the country supports his policies the most, but because he’s likely to agree to help block a business deal for a major media empire, and the other candidate is unlikely to. and this will likely come to pass due to said major media empire's interference and influence: they create their own reality. they say it, and everyone agrees with them and believes them, so it becomes true.
