It’s you.
Lando Norris x reader
Summary: You yell at a stranger at a party. That stranger happens to be Formula One driver, Lando Norris.
Word Count: 3k
Warnings: Possible angst (not really though!), swearing
Note: No use of Y/N or any pronouns for the reader.
This was based on the poll I posted a few days ago!
This fic was not supposed to be this long. I got a bit carried away when writing but I hope you all enjoy reading it! As always, I would appreciate any comments, criticisms or suggestions for new fics! And I apologise for any mistakes in the fic.
Tumblr media
Lando Norris. The man that was currently all over the media.
Lando Norris. The man who, at 25 years old, has announced that he is retiring from Formula One after the 2025 season.
According to the ever reliable source of Sky F1’s David Croft (aka Crofty) Lando was leaving F1 due to the mass amount of hate he was receiving from fans as well as the overwhelming amount of harassment he was also receiving from the media.
Now, you didn’t actually know Lando Norris but it felt like you did with how much your coworker, Julian, talked about him.
"Ahh you just don’t understand! He is amazing. He is definitely a future world champion. I don’t understand why he would give it all up!" Julian would say.
Thanks to Julian you know Lando’s birthday, when his F1 debut was and the fact that he was in a drivers championship battle against Max Verstappen in the 2024 F1 season.
Which is why when the marketing firm you worked for was asked by Formula One driver Charles Leclerc to help with the launch of his new ice cream brand, LEC, Julian jumped at the opportunity to work with said driver, in the hopes of getting in contact with Lando. Julian was convinced that if he met Lando, he could convince him not to leave Formula One. You weren’t so sure.
"No! No! Absolutely not! Julian I’m not going. Please don’t make me." You said, turning your back to Julian in hopes of reinforcing your point.
"Oh come on! Lando Norris might be there! Lando mother fucking Norris. Please please please!" Julian pleaded, clasping his hands together in a prayer like motion.
"For the last time, I am NOT helping you with this launch event. I have so many things to do. I’ve got clients that are coming in for a meeting on Monday and I have no idea what I’m going to pitch to them." you say, a sense of finality in your voice.
"It’s Friday! Loosen up! You’ve got the whole weekend to think of something. Come on! We have literally been invited to a Formula One driver’s brand launch event. Well, we weren’t ‘invited’ invited. We will be working but still!" Julian was practically begging you to help him at the launch event.
Just as you were about to decline once again, your boss, Sylvie’s voice rang out. "You will be helping Julian with the event. I sent you an email last week informing you of this". She gave you a very pointed look as she spoke, clearly leaving no room for discussion.
A full 26 hours later, the launch event was in full swing. Julian had booked out a club in Monaco for the launch. There was an ice cream bar full of Charles’ own ice cream brand. There was also a table full of toppings that people could put onto the ice cream, and, arguably the most important thing, there was also an open bar. The open bar meant that the launch, as the night progressed, turned into a full on party. People drunk on the dance floor and puking in the bathrooms.
As soon as you arrived you had immediately been accosted by some of your other colleagues. They dragged you around the entire party making you put out all of the metaphorical fires that they didn’t know how to deal with. After saving multiple celebrities from PR nightmare after PR nightmare, you finally managed to escape the clutches of your coworkers. You set out to find Julian, who personally introduced to Charles Leclerc and his girlfriend, Alexandra, as well as a handful of other people who’s names you didn’t care to remember.
An hour, and about a million alcoholic drinks later, you started to get sick of listening to Julian point out famous celebrities and decided that you needed some air. Desperately.
You quickly went in search of a balcony or a window, just something that would separate you and Julian freaking out over the famous people you were surrounded by. This was not as easy task due to how much champagne you had consumed throughout the evening in an attempt to make Julian’s fangirling a bit more bearable. Eventually, you stumbled across a balcony. One that overlooked over the Monaco skyline. You stumbled out onto the balcony but instead of the peaceful, and much welcomed, alone time you were expecting to get, you saw another person stood there. Another person who had a somewhat recognisable physique. But the alcohol you had consumed left you completely puzzled as to why you recognised this person. It’s not like you knew anyone famous enough to be invited to this brand-launch-turned-party.
"Oh sorry. I didn’t know anyone else was out here" You rushed to say, averting your eyes. You turned to leave but the stranger’s voice stops you from doing so.
"You can stay. I mean, if you want." The man rushed to say. He turned his head slightly in your direction. Only enough for you to see the outline of his side profile against the glorious night sky.
"Thank you" you said in an almost whisper. You made your way over to the railing of the balcony and leaned your forearms onto it, looking out over the city.
After a few minutes of quiet, you feel the skin on your face start to tingle. You turn your head slightly and find the man’s eyes glued to your face. You turn your head more towards the man, hoping you would be able to see his face more clearly and figure out who he was.
Oh.
Oh.
It was him.
Lando Norris.
He catches your eye and you quickly turn your head back so you were looking out at the city once again, knowing he had just caught you staring at him. You hear a deep chuckle from the man beside you. You feel him move closer to you. Slightly.
“What’s a pretty girl like you doing out here all alone?”
He was flirting. He hadn’t even seen your face properly and he was flirting. Badly. But still, flirting nonetheless. You weren’t going to lie, it did boost your ego just a little to know that a Formula One driver was willing to flirt with you. But it did make you think that these F1 drivers will flirt with anything that looked at them for long enough.
“Wow! Smooth.” You said sarcastically. Cautiously.
“Shut up.” He joked.
“I just needed some air.” You answered.
He hummed softly.
“The party is good. Busy. The music is good too. I would have been a much better DJ though” You both laughed. The two of you spent the next 5, or so, minutes talking. Neither of you failing to make the other laugh. Both of you inching closer and closer together the more you spoke.
You thought back to what Julian had said to you about Lando. ‘He is definitely a future world champion. I don’t understand why he would give it all up!’ The alcohol in your system had clouded your judgement. You felt as though you had to ask.
"Can I ask you a question?" You blurted out just as he was about to speak again. He was probably about to make some flirty, jokey comment about how you should go home with him.
"Oh. Of course. Yeah. Sure" he said, taking a step away from you, picking up on the change in tone of your voice. He was clearly expecting you to disappoint him by asking for a photo or signature or something he didn’t have the energy to give. Both of your faces turned to, once again, look over the Monegasque skyline.
You clear your throat. "What do you want?"
"Excuse me?" He asked, obviously taken aback by your question.
"You heard me. What do you want?" You repeated.
"Oh… Ermmm. I- ermmm" He said. Unable to form a clear sentence, a clear train of thought.
"Do you want people to take pity on you, beg you to stay? Do you want people to feel bad for how they treated you, how the media treated you, how ‘fans’ treated you? Because they won’t. You have to be naive to think that they will."
His brows furrowed at this.
"Do you want to throw away an entire career just because the media has turned people against you? A career that you have worked so had to achieve. A career that your family worked so hard to help you get and excel in." You turned your whole body to face him now. He didn’t dare look at you.
"Are you just going to give up because it’s no longer fun? Because you are no longer a ‘fan favourite’? Because people, the media, the fans, everyone is ‘out to get you’? Is that what you are going to do with the rest of your life, give up when things get hard, when people turn against you?" Your voice was starting to get louder and louder the more you spoke. "What about the fans that love you? What about all of the people that you have inspired and are inspiring? What about the fans whose lives you have saved?" You couldn’t help yourself, you tried to stop yourself from saying all of these things but you just couldn’t. You wouldn’t dream of saying any of this sober. But right now you were anything but sober. Tonight, right now, was the only time you would ever see him and you felt like you should say something. Him leaving Formula One felt, to you, to everyone, like a rash decision, one that he was bound to regret once the season was over.
"You are acting like a Zayn Malik when you need to be acting like a Nico Rosberg." His eyebrows raised so high that it was almost comical. He was snapped him out of the shocked and, quite frankly, offended trance that he seemed to be in for the entirety of your speech.
"What? What does that even mean?" His voice going up an octave.
"What-I- what do you think it means?! It means that you are just leaving when you should be fighting to prove the people who are doubting you, the people who are sending you hate, wrong. And you do that by winning a world championship, which I know you are capable of winning. And if you still want to leave after that then you leave on a high. You leave on a win." You say, as though it was obvious.
"First of all, we don’t know each other, I quite literally don’t even know who you are, w- ah- are you an influencer or some shit? God I knew I shouldn’t have come tonight. " He said the last part under his breath.
"Look, I don’t know what makes you think you can go on a whole rant about my decision to leave F1. It is my decision, not yours, not anyone else’s, mine and mine alone so I think you just need to BACK OFF! I don’t know what makes you think you have the right to lecture me or make me feel bad about my choices. Secondly, that metaphor was completely lost on me and quite frankly kinda outdated. You saying that Zayn "just left" is undermining what he actually when through and what actually happened. That’s not even the point!" He shook his head.
"The point is, you need to mind your own and get the fuck out of other peoples business" With that he turned on his heel and disappeared back into the party.
The next few weeks were hectic for you at work. Once people were made aware of the success of Charles’ brand launch, more and more people, who had seen how well the brand launch went, had been wanting to get your companies help with their branding.
It all came to ahead when Julian came to your desk one morning and shoved his phone into your face. You took the phone from his hands and read the article he had pulled up.
‘Lando Norris not leaving Formula One next year’ the headline read.
"Can you believe it?! This is amazing! He has apparently made a statement on his Instagram saying that he has decided to stay in Formula One! I’m actually so happy! What do you think caused him to change his mind?"
"I don’t know" you said with a nervous laugh. It was all coming back to you now. Everything from that night at the party.
‘Do you want people to feel bad for how they treated you, how the media treated you, how ‘fans’ treated you? Because they won’t. You have to be naive to think that they will.’
You cringed as you remembered what you had said. In your defence you were incredibly drunk, don’t tell Julian or Sylvie. But that doesn’t still excuse what you did. You felt terrible for what you said to him, you really didn’t mean to say it. You really didn’t want to say it.
For the rest of the day you replayed your interaction with Lando over and over again in your head. Every time you thought of it, you felt guiltier and guiltier.
It only made you feel worse when a few days later a familiar face walked through the doors of your place of work.
"Bonjour. Welcome to MARKETING COMPANY NAME. Have you got an appointment?" You heard Gen, the receptionist, say.
You didn’t think much of this interaction. Clients come and go from the office all of the time.
"You do. That is amazing. What is your name?" You heard Gen ask.
"Lando Norris."
You froze.
No.
Please. No. This could not be happening.
"I’m actually here to see-"
You didn’t hear what name he said. You didn’t need to. You knew he was there for you. You kept facing your computer. You kept your back turned away from where he was stood. You prayed that he didn’t see you.
He did.
Of course he did.
He had spotted you as soon as he walked into the office.
You felt him tap your shoulder. Reluctantly, you turned around. He looked good. He looked different to how he looked at the party. He looked determined. Lighter. You, on the other hand, looked sheepish, embarrassed.
"Hello. Can I help you?" You said with as much confidence as you could muster.
"It’s you."
Shit.
"Erm- I- erm- I don’t know what you mean" your false confidence faltering.
"From the party. Charles Leclerc’s party."
Oh no. He was here to confront you.
You couldn’t have stood up from your chair fast enough.
"Oh god. I’m so sorry about that. Seriously, I was so drunk and I know that’s not a good enough reason but I-" He hugged you. You didn’t know what to do. Your hands hovered over his back. You were about to hug him back when you heard
"OH MY GOD. IS THAT LANDO NORRIS?!" Julian. Of course it was Julian.
Lando pulled away quicker than you thought was humanly possible.
"Could I talk to you. Somewhere more private?" Lando whispered. Your faces were still incredibly close to each other from the hug, noses almost touching.
"Yeah. Of course." You grabbed his arm and started pulling him towards your bosses office. She was in a meeting so you just let yourself in.
"I’m-"
"I just-" you both started speaking at the same time.
"No you go first" You said, ushering your hands forward.
"Okay. I just wanted to say thank you for yelling at me. You were right. I was letting what other people thought of me and what they said about me, cloud my judgement. I don’t know if you have seen it but I decided to stay in Formula One and you are the reason why I changed my mind. You really knocked some sense into me I guess" Lando looked bashfully at his feet.
"Oh… I wasn’t expecting that. I don’t really know what to say. Erm. Your welcome. I think?" Your brows furrowed in confusion.
"Wait how did you even find me?"
"Oh that. I asked Charles who planned the party and thought if I showed up at the marketing company he said was involved, I might see you. And I was right"
"Oh. I really don’t know what to make of that. This is all so weird. I thought you were here to yell at me." You said shaking your head in disbelief.
"Me? Yell at you? Never. There was another reason why I wanted to come here in person though." Lando said, a faint blush on his face.
"Oh" you enquired.
"Yeah. I was also wondering if I could get your phone number?"
"My phone number? Oh. Wait. Why? Oh my god are you going to sue me or something?! Oh god no please don’t. I literally don’t have any money. I’m literally poor as shit."
He laughed. Hard. Like a knee slapping-ly hard kind of laugh.
"Sue you? Why would I do that? I’m trying to ask you out!" Lando said, out of breath from laughing so much.
"What? Ask me out? But I yelled at you? We don’t even know each other. I could be a serial killer. We literally met at a party." You were seriously questioning if he had hit his head on the way to your office.
"Yeah but we’ll get to know each other. You haven’t answered my question. Can I have your phone number? You yelled at me so basically, you owe me." He said hopefully.
"Oh. Yeah of course" You fumbled to get your phone out of your pocket. You handed the phone over to him and watched him put his number into your phone. He then sent himself a text from your phone so that he could have your number too.
"Okay cool! I’ll call you.” He turned and started to walk away. He stopped suddenly and turned back to you
“Please don’t yell at me down the phone when I call" He joked, turning, once again, to walk out of your bosses office. Leaving you gobsmacked at his comment.
As you were walking back to your desk, you looked down at your phone, blush covering your face.
You sat back down at your desk feeling giddy. Just as you were about to log back into your computer, your phone lit up.
Lan🧡
Thank you.
You shook your head, feeling incredibly embarrassed. Shy. Just as you were about to put your phone down, another text came through.
Lan🧡
Btw you looked really pretty today 💕

Low, metallic ticks and hums fill your ears as you steadily wake from sleep. The ambience of the Fortress is a familiar symphony, always there in the quiet hours before a day starts or after it’s over. When you started working down here, you quickly became so used to the noise to the point it’s like it’s not even there most of the time. You stretch in your bed, black sheets pooling around your body, and that’s when your attention shifts.
There’s gentle kisses being placed along your neck, eliciting a soft hum from you as you finally crack your eyes open. You move your head slightly to look at the man beside you, his ice blue eyes meeting yours in the darkness. “Morning.” Wriothesley says with a small smirk on his lips, returning to his ministrations on your skin.
“Good morning… how long have you been up?” You ask teasingly, a brow raised. You’re no stranger to waking up to his care since he always seems to be awake before you, and he can never keep himself away from you.
He chuckles, the raspy sound making you shudder. He feigns innocence, “only a few minutes this time.” One of his hands moves beneath the sheets, getting under your shirt to splay a large, warm palm against the softness of your stomach. It snakes up further, his fingers skating lovingly along your skin before cupping a breast in his hand. He squeezes as you shift in his grip, arching your body against his experimentally. He’s definitely hard. He pulls you ever closer and buries his nose in the crook of your neck, groaning. “What am I gonna do without you…”
Ah, right. Your trip.
The time has come again for your annual journey to Sumeru for the convention that’s held for inventors just like yourself. It’s an event to share ideas and new creations and research, full of so many brilliant minds that it’s something you always look forward to. The organizers even offered for you to be a speaker this year, saying how impressed the Akademiya was with your progress on the study of robotics and weaponry. You’d gladly accepted and have been preparing your speech ever since with Wriothesley as your test audience.
You wish he could come with you. You know he’d enjoy all the new sights and seeing the inventions people have come up with just like you do, but his position just doesn’t grant him the possibility. So that means you have to leave him and the Fortress for a week. You already know how badly you’ll miss him, having gotten so accustomed to his presence these past ten months. Getting to know what’s beneath the gruff exterior of the Duke has been a joy and you think yourself lucky to be considered his lover and to be able to share his bed.
You’re broken out of your thoughts by his fingers sneaking under the waistband of your underwear, your breath hitching. They go further, immediately finding your clit and drawing slow circles. Pleasure sparks at the bottom of your spine, a little whine leaving you as Wriothesley’s nose nudges your jaw, his messy black and silver hair tickling your cheek. He leaves kisses wherever he can reach with you both on your sides, his other arm secured diagonally across your middle to keep you against him—right where he wants you.
His fingers drag up through your drenched folds, collecting the slick there and using it as he rubs your clit. “So wet already.” He murmurs against your ear, his words breathy and hot. You can feel the way his erection rubs against your ass through his boxers, his own arousal painfully evident. Despite that, he’ll take his time with you like he always does, only ever caring about your own pleasure before his.
There’s a knot steadily building in your gut, a familiar feeling that you know the end result of. It makes your blood sing, your face becoming flushed as Wriothesley works you with expertise. You writhe against the hard planes of his bare chest when his fingers move downwards, briefly teasing your entrance before sinking two digits into the plush heat. You both moan in tandem, his fingers filling your aching pussy in the way you’d been craving, more arousal dripping along the back of his hand.
He begins a slow pace, drawing in and out and applying pressure in just the right spots. He angles himself so that the heel of his palm presses against your clit at the same time, making sure to leave nothing unattended. You bite your lip and groan, your chest heaving and your head falling back against the pillows. Your shirt has been pushed all the way up, exposing your breasts to the frigid air of Wriothesley’s bedroom and making your nipples perk. He takes full advantage, pinching each one in turn between his index and thumb, the feeling of his callouses making you whimper.
He quickens the thrusting of his fingers into your cunt, recognizing the way you begin to tense and flutter around him. He’s eager, his breath coming in pants and his hips rutting against your ass, desperate to get some kind of friction on his clothed cock. That knot from before grows larger, ready to come undone while pleasure burns like a fire beneath your skin. He manages to get a third finger into your tight pussy, stretching you wide and going as deep as he can while still abusing your clit.
“Oh fuck- Wrio-!“ You whine his name in a way that’s music to his ears, fueling his movements even more. He loves every sound you make, but he especially loves the ones in the morning when everything is quieter and breathless, like the world is only you two in that moment.
You finally break with one final thrust, your orgasm washing over you like a wave, a choked moan the only sound you can manage. You lay there for a moment, your body going limp and basking in the pleasure, before you’re craning your neck and reaching back a hand to pull Wriothesley in. You get to kiss him at last, his mouth plush and pliant against yours as your fingers card through his surprisingly silky hair. You always enjoy him a little more like this, free of his arm wrappings and cold metal. When the Duke is left behind and you have just Wriothesley—your lover. When his edges are softened, his tension laid to rest, and he can simply be himself.
Wriothesley holds you to him as your tongue presses against his own, basking in the warmth of your body. He doesn’t break your kiss even as he works down below, pulling the covers back and tugging on your soaked underwear. He throws it across the room to be picked up later once it’s finally off. He then frees his cock at last, precum beading on the tip, an appreciative groan sounding in his chest. You separate from him with a gasp when you feel his shaft rubbing between your folds, gathering your slick as his tip prods your clit with each shift of his hips.
He hums, kissing the corner of your mouth and moving down to your jaw and neck. “You’re so sensitive in the mornings.” He says like he’s making a note of it, his hand running up and down your thigh.
You groan, the temptation of him getting to be too much. “Wrio, please..”
He can’t help but smirk, those blue eyes gleaming. He leans in, his voice quiet and rumbly. “Please what, sweetheart?”
“Please… I need you.” You whisper, your hands latching onto his arm, taking comfort in the strong muscle and warm, scarred skin. His face instantly softens, a gentle smile gracing his lips as he kisses you again. Oh, he can never deny you. It’s that moment that Wriothesley finally presses his cock into your hot cunt, both of you moaning in relief. He slides in slowly, your pussy stretching to accommodate him inch by inch. He fills you in a way nothing else ever could and just when you think you may burst from it, he bottoms out.
Wriothesley groans at the way you take him fully, the way you seem to suck him in so he never wants to leave. The feeling manages to stun him every time, no matter how much he takes you to bed. “That’s my girl,” he says through clenched teeth, his breath coming out in little hisses. There’s a brief pause that you use to get over the initial shock before the desire to pump you full starts to gnaw at him and you eagerly wriggle in his hold.
The first thrust is bliss, Wriothesley slowly drawing out all the way to the tip and then slamming back in. He loves the way your body reacts—the little twitches of your muscles, the way your walls flutter and clench around him. He quickly finds his pace, something steady and easy and satisfying for you both. He could never be rough with you this early in the morning, not when your body is still soft from sleep, the blue light of the ocean illuminating your form just right and your little noises a quiet song for only him to hear.
He hooks a hand under your thigh, lifting it with ease and holding it there, giving him better access to your cunt so he can hit that spot he knows drives you insane. He can tell he’s doing just that with the way your moans grow in pitch and the way you latch on to him so desperately, needing him even closer. It makes his heart swell, feeling your touch on him and seeing how you crave him so badly. He used to think it impossible for someone to want him beyond a one night stand and yet here you are, proving him wrong day after day. Fuck, he loves you so much.
Wriothesley kisses you passionately while you take him as deep as possible so willingly, like you were made for him. You’re his sanctuary within the Fortress, his slice of heaven that he wants to keep all to himself. His lips trail down your jaw to your neck and this time he kisses with more purpose. He sucks at your skin, eager to leave his mark on you with his tongue and little nips of his teeth, his sharp canines threatening to break skin if he applies just a bit more pressure. You hum approvingly, moving your head to the side to give him more access. He then goes beyond your neck, also leaving marks across your collarbones until he’s satisfied.
His thrusts begin to grow erratic, the threat of release tingling in his muscles. Wriothesley knows you’re close too with the way you tense up, your nails biting into his skin. He reaches his free hand between your legs, finding your clit once more and rubbing quick circles, determined to have you cum at the same time. It’s an easy feat, given how responsive you are to him and how little resistance you put up. It only takes a few more thrusts before you’re clenching and coming on his cock with a moan. The feeling is otherworldly and has him tumbling over the edge after you with a curse, his hot spend painting your walls white.
You go weak against him as you both lay there sharing breath with heaving chests, your limbs feeling like jelly and buzzing with ecstasy from the double orgasm. He sets your leg down gently, both of his arms now wrapping around you to meld you to him. You don’t hesitate to snuggle into his warmth, very much enjoying the feeling of his large body encompassing yours. He relishes in this moment of intimacy, taking all he can get now before you leave him. He needs to make sure to burn the memory of this morning into his brain so he can look back on it during the week to come.
“I love you.” He murmurs, kissing your temple.
You smile, twisting around in his grip so that you’re now facing each other. You nuzzle against his jaw where there’s just a hint of stubble and you breathe him in, his familiar scent immediately soothing. “I love you too.”
He buries his face into the crook of your neck again, his breath tickling your skin. “I should handcuff you to this bed so you can’t leave…” He mutters lowly, like he’s not entirely joking.
You laugh, your hand coming up to run through his hair. “It’s only a week, I’ll be back before you know it.” He grumbles indistinctly and you smile, rubbing circles on his scarred back. It’s endearing that such a big, intimidating man like Wriothesley is going to miss you so much. It’s a massive contrast to your past partners who always had something negative to say about your work. You were gone too much, you were too distracted, or they just thought it was pointless to begin with. They never understood how important your work is to you, but Wriothesley does.
You came to Fontaine and subsequently the Fortress about two years ago after leaving the Akademiya in Sumeru, having decided that Fontaine would be much better suited for your line of work with machinery. It took a while to find somewhere that seemed right for you before hearing about the Fortress of Meropide and the gardemek production factory located on the lower levels. It seemed perfect. You pursued a position within the Fortress, having to meet with both Neuvillette and Wriothesley before you were accepted. You’d promised to be completely transparent with any and all research you conducted, any new projects or inventions, and you’d swore to not interfere with any Fortress occupants.
Wriothesley was definitely suspicious of you at first, thinking you were just another sparkly eyed researcher who didn’t know what she was doing, but he was quickly proven wrong. You showed him all of your notes on the gardemeks, how their functionality could be improved and how to avoid any deviants, and all the weapons and tools you’d created. One of the weapons was your own, a sharpshooter rifle that you’ve been able to infuse with the power of your vision. The thing doesn’t even look like its base model anymore after all the modifications you gave it.
You steadily made a home in the Fortress, working day in and day out in your office, happy to fully immerse yourself. You didn’t see Wriothesley much at first of course, the man always busy running the Fortress itself, but after a couple months, he invited you to have tea with him. You accepted, and though you worried it was actually a meeting to kick you out of the Fortress, it turned out to be quite pleasant. He asked you questions about your work and backstory and listened to every long response you gave. The way he’d give you his full attention would make a flush creep up the back of your neck.
You had more and more of these meet ups with him, where you both just sat in his office drinking tea and talking. Then it turned into you bringing some of your work in there and you’d sit on the couch tinkering with metal parts while he sat at his desk filing papers. It was comfortable and easy and you appreciated his company like he did yours. Your feelings for him definitely grew the more you were around him. His witty remarks and rough exterior captivated you and you wanted to know more about him. You wanted to see him every day, to see those softer sides of him that sometimes came out during your tea breaks.
Then, ten months ago, he surprised you by asking you to go out with him. You agreed, of course. You hadn’t known he shared your same feelings but you’d been overjoyed to find someone with a similar mindset as you, someone who didn’t care about the way you worked because he worked the same way.
So now here you are, fucked out first thing in the morning with Wriothesley’s arms securely around you. He seems like he might fall back asleep with the way his eyes are closed and his breathing is slowing down, but there’s a question you still need to ask, one that’s been gnawing at you. Too many old memories of past partners has left you anxious—something you admittedly still need to improve on.
“Hey, Wrio?”
“Hm?”
You hesitate for a second, thinking maybe it’s a dumb question after all, but you push past it. “You’ll see me off, won’t you?”
His eyes open at that, those icy blue depths piercing you. He props himself up on an elbow to look at you, his brows creasing ever so slightly. “Of course I will.” He says it so simply that you realize how silly it was for you to worry. He brushes a strand of hair from your face, his touch impossibly gentle. “I cleared my schedule for you.”
Your eyes widen in disbelief. You know how packed his itinerary is on any given day so you can’t even believe what he just said. “Really?”
He chuckles. “Yes really, sweetheart. I put in some more hours these last few days so I wouldn’t have so much to worry about today.” He says. “Now come on, we should start getting ready. Those boats leave early.”
He detaches himself from you, his heat sorely missed, and slips out of bed. He heads towards the bathroom and turns on the shower, letting it run while he comes back for you so it can get warm. Before your feet even have the chance to hit the floor, he gets a hand under your knees and scoops you up, making you yelp. He grins while you cling to him, his strong arms cradling you against his chest.
He sets you down in the bathroom, kissing the top of your head before checking the water temperature. Standing there, watching him, you realize your heart hasn’t felt this full in a long time.

Wriothesley’s office is in disarray. It’s entirely your doing, with the contents of your carrying case strewn about as you finally pack in all of your inventions. You’d been working on them until the very last minute, trying to make sure everything is perfect. You’re double checking the rest of your bags while you’re at it, attempting to make sure you have all your items and to relax the anxiety you feel. What if, in some awful scenario, you forget one of your showcase pieces? Or your notes? Or your Akademiya robes?
Wriothesley simply watches you from his spot leaning against his desk, tea cup in hand. He knows he can’t help you, you have a method to your madness and if he interferes then it’ll mess you all up. So he stands back, waiting for you to finish so you can eat your breakfast. He’d gotten it brought to his office after your shower together, a simple meal of a breakfast croissant sandwich and tea, but yours still remains untouched, the steam on your drink having long since died down. He looks up when you loudly groan in frustration.
“Where’d that other damn capacitor go?” You mutter, rifling through your things on the floor to no avail.
“Over there, sweetheart.” He says, motioning to where the metal piece had rolled under the couch. He noticed it a few minutes ago but decided not to disturb you, knowing you’d realize sooner or later.
“Ah, thanks.” You say, quickly snatching it and sticking it with some other spare parts in the case. You work efficiently to get everything packed in and wrapped in cushioning so nothing gets damaged. To Wriothesley, it’s like watching someone play an expert puzzle game with the way you manage to fit so much into such tiny spaces with room to spare.
You sit back on your heels after another twenty minutes, a satisfied huff leaving you. “There. That should be everything.” You say, looking over the two-page long checklist you have. All the boxes are ticked off, some even being ticked off twice.
He chuckles, putting his finished tea down to cross his arms. “Good. Now will you please eat?”
You playfully sigh. “Fine, fine.”
You scarf down the sandwich, your hunger suddenly coming out in full force and taking what it can get. You use the tea to wash it down, noticing it’s one of Wriothesley’s fruitier blends. His tea choice changes each day, unless he gets fixated on a singular flavor. You make a game of it sometimes where he’ll test you to see if you can guess which brew he used; your results have been very 50/50.
When there’s nothing but crumbs left on your plate, you look towards the clock on the wall. It’s definitely time for you to get going. You gather your bags with Wriothesley’s help, then looking to him before descending the stairs of his office. “Ready?”
“Mhm. Are you? You sure you got everything?” He says teasingly, one eyebrow raised.
You scoff with a smirk, eyes rolling, and begin walking down the stairs as he laughs. “Don’t you even start.” You refuse to let him get to you, knowing your trusty checklist would never lie to you.
You walk through the main floor of the Fortress together, which is mostly empty except for the guards at this hour. A few of them wish you safe travels as you go, surprising you. Just as you’re about to get into the elevator, Sigewinne catches you to give you a goodbye hug and tell you to be careful since she won’t be around to fix you up. You have to use the elevator ride to compose yourself before you reach the entrance to the Fortress. It was all unexpected—you didn’t think so many people would notice your absence. It makes you smile to yourself.
You both get onto the first boat of the day, the one that’ll take you to the Fortress registration office that sits deep below the Opera Epiclese. The ride is smooth, the operator being extra polite and maybe a little fearful too because of Wriothesley joining you. You find it amusing to see everyone be so intimidated by the man who’d been snuggling you in bed only a few hours ago.
When the boat comes to a stop, you both clamber out and then into another elevator. As soon as it breaches the surface, you have to squint your eyes from the early morning sunlight. You bask in its warm rays as they hit your face, immediately washing away the chill of beneath the sea. You can see Wriothesley doing the same, his broad chest expanding as he takes a deep breath of the fresh air. Neither of you have been out of the Fortress for a while it seems.
You walk along the paths to Marcotte Station, enjoying the sounds of the birds chirping and leaves rustling as you go. It’s from there that you take an aquabus into the Court of Fontaine which is already bustling with people doing their morning shopping or taking a stroll. Not too many civilians recognize you, none of them concerned with memorizing the faces of the elusive Duke and his “sniper”, as you’ve sometimes been referred. The ones who do recognize you, though, stay out of your way or give you side glances. Fair enough.
On your journey to the next station, you grab a few pastries after your stomach started growling at you again. With all the walking, you’d burned through your morning sandwich quickly, and you’ll always take the opportunity to try some of the new foods the city has to offer. Anything is better than most of the food they have in the cafeteria down in the Fortress.
The Court of Fontaine Station is more crowded than you expected, full of people coming and going. You head to the second floor for the Clementine Line, the aquabus having just arrived. You have to refrain from laughing at the way Wriothesley has to squeeze between the crowds with his hulking form, the man looking painfully out of place. You think it’s adorable. You both get situated on the upper level of the aquabus, glad to be able to set down your bags for a while.
There’s less than an inch of space between you and Wriothesley, the warmth of his body against yours a comfort. You’d told him he didn’t have to come all this way with you, since you felt bad about dragging him across the region, but he’d insisted. Going with you would soothe his nerves, he said. It makes you feel funny, like butterflies in your stomach, and extremely fortunate. You still remember old partners that would brush you off, scoffing at you and half heartedly wishing you luck on your “silly trips” while saying they don’t want to waste all that time just to see you get on a boat.
The melusine at the head of the aquabus, Aeval, begins to speak, breaking you out of your thoughts as she gives her typical spiel. The aquabus comes to life, the engine releasing a healthy purr while it starts to churn the water beneath it. You look to your left, to Wriothesley. He’s reading one of the informational pamphlets they provide during the rides, one leg crossed over the other. You can’t help yourself from reaching forward and tapping the back of his wrapped hand, a simple way for you to communicate without speaking. He immediately flips his hand over for you so that you can place yours in it, your fingers intertwining.
“Breeze is nice, isn’t it?” He asks, tilting his head up and briefly shutting his eyes. His messy hair gently blows across his face, those silver strands more prominent in the sunlight.
You nod along absently. “Mhm.”
Wriothesley’s gaze finds yours as he looks you over. “You okay?” He says. It seems he noticed the small anxious twitches you thought you were hiding. He’s always been able to tell when your mind is running a bit too fast, your anxiety getting the better of you despite your best efforts. You constantly forget how perceptive he is until the moment he calls you out on your worrying.
“Yes, I’m fine. It’s just…” you pause, debating what to say by rolling your lip between your teeth. You finally take a deep breath, bumping your shoulder against his. “Thank you. For coming with me.”
His expression softens, a gentle smile tilting his lips. “Of course, sweetheart. That’s not anything you need to thank me for, though. I wanted to see you off.” He says, squeezing your hand comfortingly.
“I know but…” you shrug, giving him a smile of your own, “I appreciate it regardless.”
It’s not much longer before the aquabus reaches Romaritime Harbor, Aeval giving her final notes on Fontaine scenery and wishing everyone a good day. You two follow the other passengers into the station, heading to the ground level where there’s already a crowd waiting. You recognize a few people, fellow researchers heading to the convention in Sumeru. It seems that makes up a majority, actually. Everyone has their multitude of bags that seem packed with fancy gadgets and inventions that they plan to show off just like you.
You hang back with Wriothesley, knowing you’ll have plenty of time to mingle on the long boat ride anyway. You listen to the rush of the massive waterfalls behind you, the mist brushing your skin. “I haven’t been out this far in a long time.” Wriothesley mutters, squinting into the distance as if he could see beyond the desert and into the heart of Sumeru.
“Last time I was here was for last year’s convention.” You say. You make a hmph sound. “We don’t get out much, do we?”
He laughs. “No, we don’t. The Fortress never really calls for it.”
“True.”
The aquabus at last rounds the corner of the desert, quickly approaching the harbor. This one is bigger than any of the aquabusses in the Fontaine stations, with three levels instead of two. People shuffle about, grabbing their bags and talking excitedly with one another. You take a deep breath, steeling yourself and facing Wriothesley. It’s finally time for you to say goodbye, no matter how much it pains you to see that subtle sadness in his eyes.
You know he’s not one for public displays of affection but you can’t stop yourself from wrapping your arms around him in a tight hug, breathing him in one more time. He obliges you, his strong arms coming around you in turn. “I’ll miss you so much.” He says into your neck.
“Me too.” You say, rubbing your hands up and down his back. “I’ll be back in no time at all.” When you’re pulling away, you sneak a kiss to his cheek, making the both of you smile dumbly.
“Be safe, okay? Don’t be afraid to punch anybody.” Wriothesley tells you.
You chuckle. “You know I won’t.” He’s seen you in the ring enough times to know that.
He looks at you fondly, a soft sigh leaving him. He brushes some of your hair back, then leaning down to kiss your forehead. “You’ll do great. Tell me all about it when you come back.”
You nod, grinning. “I will, I promise.”
By now the aquabus has docked in the harbor, people steadily climbing off while others wait to board. You gather all of your things. “Alright. I’ll see you in a week.” You say with as much determination as you can muster.
Wriothesley dips his head. “See you in a week. I love you.”
“Love you too, Wrio.” You respond, your heart feeling like it might burst out of your chest.
You finally make yourself follow the rest of the crowd onto the aquabus, managing to get a spot up top so you can catch all the pretty sights. You say hello to a few other inventors while you wait to depart, some of them recognizing you as one of the speakers for this year. It’s refreshing to see so many other eager young minds just like yours, the passion for their craft obvious.
When the aquabus finally begins to move away from the harbor, you find yourself at the railing. You’d expected him to have disappeared, to have begun his long trek back to the Fortress, to have been satisfied with seeing you to the aquabus—but Wriothesley is still standing there. You smile wide and wave goodbye to him, his hand lifting to do the same.
He doesn’t turn away until you’re nothing but a speck in the distance.

Thinking about it, you were sure you could pinpoint the exact moment of your downfall.
Perhaps the red giant stamp of ‘DISQUALFIED’ on your paperwork that night at the preliminaries of the International rounds of Figure Skating signified you were at a new all-time low, but you had only been disqualified from the women’s singles competition so you still had your chance. Or maybe it was when you’d been told instead of being able to compete in the Winter Olympics as a single, you were only qualified for mixed pairs due to your insubordination as a single skater (which whatever, yeah, you still had the love of the game and all the recognition). Yeah, both of those outcomes somewhat sucked when you renowned for being at the top of your game and an inspiration to women athletes everywhere, but nothing compared to when you realized who you were being paired up with for mixed pair Winter Olympics.
Tsukumo Yuki.
Tsukumo fucking Yuki.
Quite literally the bane of your existence, and the woman of all your festering, maddening desires.
It had to be karma you thought, you both had been disqualified as single skaters due to… a night gone wrong really on both of your sides, so of course the universe would slap you two together saying you could only compete in the Olympics together if you did it as a pair. And it just had to be the person you had history within the form of your faces plastered all over news sites and gossip blogs that caused both of your disqualifications and the reason you held some sort of grudge over the woman. A grudge and a crush, you groaned internally, remembering the headlines and picture that had almost plummeted your skating career.
It was New Years Eve, and a party at the famous idol Iori Utahime’s place was where you had both been that night. You and Yuki knew each other before of course, it came with competing against one another in the same sport, and when there was two girls opposing each other there was bound to be a rivalry born between the two. A rivalry with some sort of sexual tension in-between since every time you seen the woman you either felt like shoving her into the nearest wall and/or making out with her in the process and given the way she looked at you at times you wondered if she felt the same. And of course, it was like everyone said, drunk words were sober thoughts.
She was drunk, you were drunk, and your feelings seemed to get in the way after you moped to her about scores and then next thing you knew you two were breast to breast kissing each other. You could still taste her – strawberry flavored lip gloss painted on those lips as she ran her tongue along your bottom lip, your own chasing the phantom sensation as you recalled the endorphins a mere kiss sent you into. You were too inebriated to notice the flash of multiple phone cameras, but not too intoxicated to remember the way her mouth felt against yours and how bad you wanted her.
After you two split ways at the party, and then the next morning you were getting phone calls and text messages from your manager and PR team full of Twitter links and websites to blogs with that fucking picture of you and Yuki lip locked and completely ignorant of the world around you both. After that, it was all either a bunch of grown ass men sitting on their couches calling for yours and Yuki’s disqualification on Twitter, or it was people making edits of you and Yuki together and even coming up with a ship name for you both – like you were just people for their entertainment. And it was completely quiet from you or Yuki contacting each other at all.
(Until you got paired together, and you had to fight the urge to tackle her for another hot kiss every time you both practiced your lifts and jumps together.)
It left you feeling… hollow, but also pretty fucking annoyed because who kissed someone like that with so much passion and then ghosted them? It was whatever, and you stayed off of Instagram, Tik Tok, and Twitter from the advice of your PR team until you got word of your qualification in the mixed pairs competition. It was like a sick joke; first they condemned you for kissing her, and then they were shoving you together in a rather intimate and graceful routine in such a beautiful sport… Yeah, you supposed there and then you were at your downfall.
And that left you where you were at that moment, tying your skates on securely in the locker room as you prepared yourself for your upcoming show and probably quelling any insane need to kiss Yuki if you both got an outstanding score. Because regardless of your feelings, you both were amazing skaters.
You tapped your heel onto the floor, the blade of your skate clicking as you tested out its overall sharpness the moment Yuki entered the room. You hummed underneath your breath as you sat on the bench while trying to discreetly ogle her without her noticing, noting the sleek black outfit with sequined sides did absolute wonders for her legs. She was one of the few that liked to wear outfits with pants, and you’d only see her skate a few times in the skirts, but in your pair Yuki was the one lifting you she assumed a more covered form while you got to show of your legs in the white ensemble for the routine you two picked.
The smile she graced you with made you bite your cheek, her form coming to sit down next to you as you switched to breathing through your mouth to avoid her sweet perfume. “You nervous?” Yuki asked after a moment, letting you watch a lock of her hair slide off of her shoulder and close enough to touch your own.
Nervous was an understatement, yet you were not nervous thinking you two would do bad, more you were nervous being alone with Yuki.
You blew out a long breath, straightening your legs as you looked at your feet rather than her eyes, “I wouldn’t call it that.”
“Oh?” her head tilted in your peripheral vision, “And what would you call it?”
Sexual attraction. “Stress, maybe. Or embarrassment could work too,” you lied through your teeth, and perhaps the only time you had lied to her in your life. Even that day she walked up to you and asked you what was your type in men was you had straight up told her you weren’t attracted to men at all. The surprise on her face was palpable, but you wouldn’t ever forget the way Yuki’s eyes lit up and a slow smile spread across her face.
She hummed low in her throat, her shoulders relaxing as she leaned into the lockers behind her, “C’mon, what’s too be embarrassed about?’
“You don’t see what they say about us?” you grumbled, not like it necessarily bothered you, but more you couldn’t stand one kiss being attached to your name constantly.
Yuki laughed, “Who cares? What we did isn’t any of their business, and if anything else happened it still wouldn’t be their business.” She said it all so nonchalantly there was no reason you didn’t believe her, however, some of her words struck a chord inside of you. More of the carnal desire than anything else.
“’If anything else happened’?” you parroted back to her, finally turning your head towards her and meeting her eye for eye, “What? You think one kiss proves anything?”
A slow smile spread across her face, the glint of her lip-gloss making you lose focus for a moment to stare at her lips before you met her eyes again. “Of course not, I think it was a start though.”
“A start to what? The new and improved version of Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding?” A snort left your chest at the thought because no matter the rivalry you’d never find it in you to wish ill upon Yuki. Quite the opposite actually.
A sigh tickled your ears, Yuki’s body scooting close enough so that you were hip to hip and thigh to thigh with each other, “Y’know what I think? I think that’s not all that’s bothering you,” she paused to assess your body language and seeing no apprehension within you she continued with a sad smile, “I wanna ask you something.”
A million things ran through your mind at that moment, ranging from whatever she could possibly ask you or if she was going to tell you that she no longer wanted to compete any longer and dropped out last minute. However, regardless of the oncoming doom your brain was festering out of paranoia you couldn’t not hear her out. Though you couldn’t find it in yourself to speak, nodding to her in fear you’d make a fool and stutter instead.
She blinked slowly, and you watched her pupil dilate when she reopened her eyes to look at you, “All those… moments between us, and I know that you know what I’m talking about…” Yuki’s gaze softened, and her fingers curled into her palms, “Did they mean something to you?”
You knew what she was talking about. All those moments between you two at practices, the way her hands rested on your waist (and how good it felt for your touch-starved soul), how she lifted you and put you down with so much gentleness you couldn’t help but think she harbored some softness for you, or maybe in your shared hotel room just the night before when you took turns nursing a bottle Vodka to help get rid of those nerves for the competition. You could remember the melodious octave of her laugh when you almost busted your ass trying to get the bathroom the night before, and when you’d been drunkenly trying out a Lutz jump without any momentum or ice.
There wasn’t anything denying how well you two could bounce off of each other, but more your pride getting in the way of allowing yourself some flexibility.
You swallowed, trying your best not to let your emotions show on your face, “The company of a new friendship? Maybe…” you lied, and even as you said it you watched the recognition flit across her face.
“That’s not what I meant.” A soft laugh made your face burn, your knees knocking together as you fought off the chills it brought. “I think I should apologize actually; all the mixed signals and teasing I did, I was only trying to see if all that attitude was hiding something else.”
Your face must’ve taken on an insane expression, Yuki’s laugh bouncing off the walls at your reaction to her confession as you tried to remain as nonchalant as possible, “So you were testing me?”
“I mean, there’s a reason why I didn’t listen to my publicist.” You felt her shrug, and your heart skyrocketed. “I don’t think I can stand staying away from you too long, almost like I’m obsessed with you really. I stopped seeing you as just my opponent a long time ago too.” Yuki’s voice had taken on a lower tone, like honey dripping into your body and your muscles molding into mush the more she spoke to you like in your ears and kept giving confession after confession.
Your heartbeat was a drumming in your head, your own blood rushing loud enough you were able to hear it with your own ears, and the nerves in your body suddenly lit ablaze when you realized the gravity of her words. Every parasitic worm in your body that screamed for the touch of Tsukumo Yuki awoke and your soul screamed for the woman so close to you. And it must’ve shown on your face as she smiled and her eyes shot down straight to gaze at your mouth.
“Yknow,” Yuki drawled out slowly, an unmistakable deepening in her voice that shot straight into your lower abdomen, “if you want something, you should go ahead and take it…”
The invitation in her eyes was loud and clear, and the way she leant back into the lockers behind her and legs opened for you. You wasted zero time at the sultry look within her eyes, practically launching yourself forward onto her mouth as she laughed before your lips met. The kiss didn’t feel as sweet as the one that night on New Year’s Eve, but she tasted all the same to you. That time you both were all teeth clacking against each other, saliva intermingling with your tongues, and nails finding themselves into part of each other that you could reach. You supposed the syrupiness of Yuki’s taste was the foundation of your attraction to her, and the near animalistic way you two went at each other was the core of it all.
But whatever it was, you decided then and there you would never be able to get enough.
Yuki lips broke away from yours with a ‘smack!’, pushing you away as she dropped to her knees onto the floor in front of you, “Let me taste you.”
You held zero objections, carefully swinging both legs over her shoulders as you hurriedly fought to get your leotard off and down enough so that her mouth could find you. The kisses and bites on your thighs you knew you’d have to cover up in some sort of way, but you didn’t care for the moment, not when her lips and tongue seated themselves along where you yearned for her most and your eyes immediately rolled in the back of your head with a loud, keening moan following after.
Yet, a manicured hand covered your mouth with two of her fingers slipping in to keep you busy as you felt her laugh against your pussy. You got the message clear: You didn’t need the media finding you both in an even worse position. However, you were eager enough to slide your tongue along her fingers, moaning and sighing against her hand as her tongue swirled atop your clit and your head banged against the lockers behind you. You were careful enough not to slice her with the blades on your skates, keeping your hands curled into the bench you sat on to not fuck up her hair as you began to jerk your hips into her face in tune with how her mouth moved.
Your brain was slowly turning into goo then, only thinking of how fucking good it felt to have her tongue-deep in your pussy. Your neck rolled around as you nearly felt like denting the bench in your hands when the weight in your lower abdomen grew larger and harder, with your thighs beginning to shake once more when her nose rubbed along your sensitive clit.
Your bones were turning soft and moans growing louder as Yuki’s enthusiasm grew tenfold as her hold on your hips doubled down to almost bruising and you started to hear her breathing become labor. She was enjoying just as much as you were, and the thought sent a solid curl downwards to where your anticipated release grew in wave tides.
Already, you were close
The sinful lips that been mouthing away at the entirety of your cunt broke off once more taking her tongue with as you heard a deep, harsh breath and a low ‘Mmm’, before her mouth was latching back onto your clit to suck at it once again. Your back arched deeper then, mouth parting in a soundless wail as your hands left the bench to grip her shoulders. Your nails dug into her leotard, letting you hear a moan vibrate against your pussy, her ministrations nowhere near letting up as she continued you pull down into the paradise that was bliss personified with only her skilled mouth.
You could hear the noises of your drenched cunt then, the squelching growing louder as you rocked onto her face faster. Yuki didn’t seem mind just how much of your juices were pouring out of you, lapping them up like a woman starved and not even caring if it was messing up any of the show makeup on her face. You pulled your legs closer to you, in return forcing her face more into you as you wondered if you were practically beginning to face-fuck her as your grinding increased the longer she was eating you out.
Your head rose as your chest heaved and you took a peek at just what lied in between your thighs. But of course, the woman of your dreams that laid there had felt you move and her eyes were already straight onto yours as she sent another harsh suck at your clit. Watching her suck at your clit was one thing, however, her dark intense eyes already peering into yours when you looked up for just a glance sent something completely mind-blowing straight into your entire soul.
You fell back, your eyes rolling back into your head as the dam inside of you was at its breach.
It’s right there, there, ther – Fuck!
Your hips rolled faster, harder.
Yuki’s lips pulled and sucked faster, harder.
Your mind was only on Yuki as your back arched in a near horrifying backbend and your fingers knotted into her outfit more. Another moan vibrated your entire cunt and your legs constricted more as they began to roughly shake with another pornographic moan falling out your mouth she quickly covered up. The pressure in you was too large to ignore then, spine tightening as you sought relief for it and when Yuki’s lips pulled off your clit and her entire mouth was back on your cunt with her tongue pressing back into and her nose pushing in the absolute most direct, right way on your clit –
The stretching sensation inside of you snapped, and you were gone.
Thankfully Yuki was smart enough to cover your mouth the moment you two got busy, because you were sure from how loud you were with your mouth muffled security would be busting down the damn door thinking the worst from your moaning (or something entirely different). You could practically feel yourself jerking and squirming as the orgasmic bliss slowly began wane out of you and left your cunt and clit throbbing in the aftershocks of it. As your muscles relaxed and you tried to slow your heaving breath down, Yuki coaxed you through the burst of your release, her tongue lapping away at you and gently licking to bring you down from that powerful high.
It was a few moments before you blinked into clarity and your back fell back down as did your hips, heart loud in your ears and thumping against your ribs, as you realized what you had done. “Oh shit.” You were never going to get Tsukumo fucking Yuki out of your mind.
Yuki pulled away with a smug grin, nails digging into your thighs as she tugged you further down and onto her mouth with a mumble, “We got at least ten more minutes. Besides, you said you were stressed.”
Then and there, you decided Tsukumo Yuki was your downfall.

You toss another dirty tissue across the countertop, sniffing as you watch it come to rest at the very edge, teetering. Leaning your cheek against the cold, marbled surface, you sigh and let the sharp feeling seep through your pores like iced water.
It does little to soothe the current puffy redness of your cheeks; how long have you been sitting here, crying? The golden hanging lights that frame the kitchen have made your hair warm to the touch, their beams caressing the messy state of it, and your back feels numb and achy from the awkward position you've been slumped in since Minho stormed out of the apartment. You sigh.
You don't even remember what you were fighting about.
Each exhale feels like it's been punched out of you as you relive the events of the past hour; him coming home, both of you tired and irritable, and then fighting over the pettiest thing that you don't even remember anymore.
Then he left.
You're not sure if he's coming back; he didn't take anything but his phone, which had been in his pocket as soon as he came in, and his work bag, which is still smashed against the wall where he'd dropped it with a sigh on coming home.
You can't fight a weak smile at the habit; you've installed multiple hooks along the wall so he can hang his bag up when he gets home, but every time you did, he'd always just drop it on the floor anyway, kicking off his shoes at the door.
And you'd smile and gesture at the hooks, but he'd just ignore them, kissing your fed-up expression off your face with a gentle mouth and squeezing your shoulder with a warm, solid hand.
The way he always does.
You look at those hooks now; one of the cats' collars is hanging off them, and several other items like hair ties and rings of keys adorn the others. You came into the kitchen one day and saw Minho hanging a cat toy from the hook nearest to the door so that, when he wasn't home, the cats would be able to play. Dori sits there now, batting with fluffy white paws at the feathers and bells on the string.
Ding, ding. Ding.
You're not sure why you're thinking of such things; surely anyone in your current situation would incessantly cry their eyes out, wailing at the mistake of fighting with their partner, instead of thinking about plastic wall hooks and under-stimulated cats.
You're so distracted that you don't even notice the apartment door open again, so slowly that it takes about half a minute for Minho to actually step inside.
He's soaked.
The smell of the night rain that he brings with him is suddenly so prominent inside the still air of the apartment that it's what makes you look up.
"Minho," you whisper, eyes red and puffy. You scrub a hand across your face, the skin stinging at the harsh treatment. You hadn't even heard the rain outside.
He doesn't look at you, just takes off his shoes, very deliberately. There's a little puddle of rainwater around his feet and you fight back an exhale as his socked feet meet the wet tiles. Dori immediately goes to nuzzle against his legs and then hisses at the unpleasant wetness of his owner's legs.
But Minho doesn't seem to notice, simply taking off layers until he's stood in his slacks and white work shirt, which is the only dry item of clothing he has on. He drops the rest of his clothes in a pile.
His eyes finally lift themselves to meet yours; the warmth in them is gone, replaced by something unreadable. A dull, heavy feeling settles in your gut, a sense of finality washing over your being. You know this is the moment that he'll say he wants to leave, that he just can't find it in himself to love you. He'll go to your shared room and start packing a suitcase, and take the cats with him, all while you wail and tug at his arms for him not to leave, please, Minho, don't leave-
"I'm sorry," he whispers.
Your gaze flits to his. Your voice is croaky, cracked, saturated with sadness. "What?"
He steps forward, ignoring the insistent mewing of Soonie and Doongie, who have just come into the room. "I'm sorry. I should have just left to clear my head and then came back, but I've been gone half the night."
You blink and look through tired eyes to the clock on the wall. It takes you a couple seconds to process the time. It's 1 am. Minho came home at 9 pm. You don't even know how many hours that is.
"How long were you walking in the rain?" You say, still whispering lest you scare him off again.
He shrugs. His mouth opens, like he wants to say something, but he's hesitant, like he's not sure how it will be received.
He speaks anyway. "I stalled for a while. I didn't know if you'd be here when I came back..." His fingers twist in the slightly damp material of his white shirt, fidgeting.
Your indignance suddenly takes over your upset state and you sit up straighter. "I would have waited all night for you, Minho. I wasn't going to leave..."
"I know," he says solemnly, and then quietly, "I'm glad you're here."
You nod and slowly slide off the chair you've been slumped in, disturbing a few of the tissues scattered across the countertop. "I'm sorry too, Min. I shouldn't have kept the argument going."
He shakes his head. "We were both tired. It happens."
You both stand in silence for a minute, neither one of you sure how to continue the conversation. It's almost awkward until Minho steps forward, taking out something from his pocket. He shyly holds it out.
You take a small step forward and take the small item from him. Unfolding your fingers from around it, you blink through unshed tears to see a small keychain resting in the palm of your hand. It's a little cat with its mouth open, its fur pattern like Soonie's, but grey instead of ginger. There's another attachment of a pink peach, and the clip keyring attachment is shaped like a heart.
You look up at Minho. His face is red. You remember suddenly that he's quite shy when it comes to giving things to people, and you can't fight the urge to throw yourself into his arms.
This little keychain is Minho's apology.
His skin is cold, damp from the rain, and the collar of his shirt is wet from the rain, but you hold him close anyway. You wrap your arms around his middle, squeezing your eyes shut. He's almost fetched up against the wall from how hard you threw yourself at him, but his arms find their familiar place around your shoulders.
You pull back slightly, gazing up at him. As if he wasn't soaked enough, your tears have left two patches on his chest, but he doesn't seem to mind.
"You're looking at me like that again." Minho says quietly.
You hum, a tear spilling down your cheek. "Looking at you like what?"
You see his throat bob, swallow hard. You can feel the constant thrum of his heart through the damp fabric of his shirt.
Minho gulps. "You always look at me like than when- when-"
"When I say I love you?" You finish for him.
Minho nods inaudibly, the movement of his head so small you almost don't see it at all. You smile, tilting your head at him, the tears beginning to slow.
You both stand there for who knows how long, clinging to each other, trapping between your bodies the smell of rain and fade cologne. Finally, Minho talks.
"I love you too."

In every universe? | JayVik x Kid!Reader
Tumblr media
Notes: ANGST - Timeline is messy as hell but i dont care - Fake with me that Jayce and Viktor finds Kid!reader earlier in terms on time - ALTERNATIVE UNIVERSE - Character death - Grammar mistakes - S2 SPOILERS -
Alternative universe of this series
"But why do you have to stay mom?" A young voice asked Jayce who was mumbling while writing.
"Mom's has to work" Viktor softly said petting the youngest hair seeing as Jayce was too focus on the equations to even respond back.
"But, the lab at the Academy is bigger" You said again trying to understand why your dear parents have been working at home more and more.
"This is a sectet project Spark" Jayce responded turning to look at you, a soft tired smile on his face "And you must not tell anyone about it"
"Not even Heimerdinger ?"
"Specially not him" Jayce nodded to himself then to you and Viktor "I will pick you up from school and we can get some ice cream, deal?"
"Yes!!" You responded way too happy
"Alright, we must go if we dont want to be late, I have lectures to give" Viktor reminded both of you, passing you your bag and giving Jayce a kiss, "See you later"
"See you two later"
"Bye mom!!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The old beautiful house and lab was now a memory, a horrible explosion replaced it.
Two bodies were found, one from a girl from the old undercity and the other one was Jayce's body.
From that event the division between the cities started to shatter and a new one was born. The place was left untouched, like a memorial of the event that caused the union.
But that for Viktor and you was never enogught.
That day you stayed back at school, Jayce had no showed up so no one could get you. It was almost night time when Skyler did appear with a sour look, you were confused but went with her.
You ended more confused when she took you back to the Academy, a tired Heimerdinger went to you rubbing circles on your back.
Then you saw your dad, Viktor was sitting in front of a cold tea, his hands covering his face. When he hear the footsteps he looked up to see you.
His look, his golden eyes were reddish now, it was all you needed to understand that something terrible had happened.
He got you in a warm and almost possesive embrace, more cries could be hear from him as he hugged you and said multiple times how sorry he was.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Its that day again, right?" Powder asked you giving you a drink as you nodded
"Yeah...Dad is, well he is still working and going but this day just makes it all more difficult"
Powder nodded knowing it was the same for her and the rest.
"You know, it never leaves" She started, repeating what Vander had said all these years back "You just learn to live with it"
~~~~~~~~~
The visit to Jayce's gravestone never got easier, Viktor swear he path got longer each time and his leg pulled him back more and more.
"Dad?"
Your voice broke his toughts, obscure ideas once more, what if in another universe the three of you got to live? See the city change together? Make it a better place?
He knew he was playing with dangerous forces but....but he was sure he was close, close to open a gate to a different place, one where Jayce was still alive and with him, and you were with them, growing and being brillant.
"Im coming Spark" Viktor softly called, the vision of Jayce's gravestone was a reminder that no, not in this universe.
In this universe Jayce Talis was dead, and he was going crazy without him.
M.list ~ Previous Chapter
A/N: Hello, my loves! The third and new chapter is here, sorry for making you wait longer for it but as you know, I wasn't home last week and I postponed yesterday's update in favour of the drabble I wrote with Yunho. To be honest with you all, my motivation for this mini-series also died down quite a bit, and despite having the fourth chapter already written, I don't know when I'll get to write the rest since I'm also preparing for the March Event with Mina...I do have some good news, though, and it's the following: thanks to Mingi's live from last night (and some extra super fluffy pictures that originate from it) my motivation sparked back, but I cannot promise you anything as of now! I mostly write whatever my mood dictates...This is another domestic chapter and I hope you enjoy it, your thoughts and feedback is greatly appreciated. divider
            My attention switched from my phone to the barista as it was my turn in line to order. I smiled at her and glanced at the menu behind her to ensure they had what I needed.
“An Iced Americano and a Vanilla Frappuccino, please.” The barista typed in my order and then asked whether I’d like a cookie with my beverages, but I declined her offer as she went to prepare the drinks once I paid for my order. I hummed and unlocked my phone while waiting, opening my chat with Mingi. He had the evening shift today, so he had decided to hit up the library on campus with a few of his friends, saying how studying together lately helped with his progress on his research. I had wished him a good day, and Mingi hadn’t texted me since. It didn’t bother me since we didn’t talk that much throughout the day, but he had a habit of checking in every few hours, sending memes or random facts he’d learned through the wonderful place called the internet. They weren’t always accurate and we’ve had our fair share of fights about whether a fact check was needed, but in the end, it was good entertainment that took our busy brains off our issues.
“Here, enjoy it.” I looked up and took the two cups from the barista, thanking her before I headed for the exit, pocketing my phone. It was rather windy today, so I had opted to wear a flannel jacket, my tote bag threatening to slip off my shoulder anytime now. The traffic light was green, so I quickened my pace to reach it before it turned red, hurrying over the crossing as it had started blinking warningly. I was already on campus, the university Mingi had gone to was massive and thus housed multiple stores and even dorms on the far east of the complex. The coffee shops and cheap restaurants were located somewhere in the middle section of the place, making it more accessible for both students and professors if they were in a hurry. The library Mingi was at was located inside the E building, on the opposite end of the dorms, and on the far west. I knew this place well enough because I had gone to university here as well, except that the buildings I frequented most were A and G. The walk between the two was never brisk, but it was filled with silly conversations and lots of laughter with my friends and other classmates as we walked to our next class.
I recognised a few faces here, despite the flux of students, it wasn’t as packed as it would have been in the early morning or at lunch. I knew to avoid those hours, and since it was my day off today, I had decided to be productive and utilise it well. I had to clear my mind, it’s been filled with Mingi too often lately. I’ve always had periods when I yearned to be in his presence more and more, but it’s never gotten this insistent and pressing. I did enjoy being with Mingi, but we needed to have our personal lives as well, which was a line that’s started blurring lately. I couldn’t remember the last time I slept in my apartment, in my bed, all alone. If it wasn’t Mingi coming over, then I would be going over to his place. It was usually just to watch a movie or cook dinner together, perhaps hang out without doing anything, and somehow, it would always end with the other one staying over. It didn’t bother me, on the contrary, I quite enjoyed the closeness between the two of us, but it’s been getting too much. My heart raced in the mere presence of Mingi and I didn’t like the traitorous thoughts that tried to keep me up at night unless I forcibly silenced them. Mingi was a good man, well-behaved and extremely kind, and my mind was trying to trick me into believing that having him with me had turned into a need and that it wasn’t just a want anymore.
I sighed and shook my head, a bit irritated that I was caught up in thought about Mingi again. It’s what I’ve been trying to avoid doing today, and so far, I was majorly failing at it. Building E was right in front of me, so I hurried over to be out of the windy weather, my feet taking me up the marble stairs two at a time until I reached the front entrance. I had to put all my weight into pushing the heavy double door open, and I slightly shivered when warmth engulfed my body. The door of the security guard’s cubicle was open, the middle-aged man was scrolling through his phone as he swiftly looked up, eyes landing on me. I nodded at him in a wordless greeting and he hummed, going back to his phone. I knew my way around here so I had no difficulties navigating around the vast building. There were multiple classrooms in here, the Biology department being located inside this building. I took the stairs to the third floor and passed by the secretary's offices, almost running into a student as they had their nose buried deep in a book, eyebrows furrowed and a scowl on their lips.
“Sorry.” The guy muttered before walking around me, making me shake my head at him. He had come from the library, the tall doors closed and cocooning the room in silence. Usually, drinks weren’t allowed inside, but if you remained in the study hall and didn’t bring it anywhere near the books, the librarian didn’t kick you out for it. I entered the library and cringed when the door screeched…so they still haven’t fixed it, huh? And I graduated three years ago, thought someone would’ve taken care of it by now. I turned left to head for the study hall, listening to the clicking of keyboards and the flipping of pages as students crowded the place. Mingi wasn’t a necessarily loud person, but he didn’t like being restricted, so I knew he wouldn’t wander too far inside the library and stay instead in the study hall, where conversation kept minimal was also allowed.
Rows of long tables and many chairs occupied by numerous students never failed to amaze me, realising just how many people attended the different departments of this university. I couldn’t find Mingi and his friends in the front, so I wandered further inside, searching the room for a guy with black hair and black-rimmed glasses, a crooked smile, and sharp eyes unless they creased at the corner from Mingi’s bright smile. I found myself smiling at the thought of Mingi and tried to control it before anyone would think I was stupid for smiling at literally nothing. And before I could berate myself more, I finally spotted Mingi towards the last three rows, shaking my head because, of course, they would sit there. It was far from the librarian, so it allowed the friend group to converse with each other freely, sometimes even laugh unless they were hushed by those sitting around them. My smile only widened as my eyes fell on Mingi, taking in his colourful attire. He wore a thin striped sweater, the colours being beige, green and navy blue. His hair was brushed out of his eyes and his glasses perched on the top of his head. The dainty choker with a crystal was a gift from me, and I couldn’t help but feel a bit proud that he was wearing it.
Mingi didn’t notice my approach, too focused on his laptop until I was standing by his side, looming over him. The two friends he was here with sat across from him, and they looked amused when Mingi still didn’t feel my presence next to him. I glanced at his laptop’s screen and wasn’t surprised to see him with two different opened tabs, reading while taking notes in a different app. I cleared my throat and placed a hand on his nape, making Mingi jump. He whipped his head back, eyes wide as he stared up at me, then released a sigh and chuckled, leaning back in his chair.
“Hi,” His tone was low, trying not to bother anyone, “You scared me.”
“Sorry,” I hummed, my fingers flexing against his warm skin as I gently massaged his neck. Mingi hummed as he leaned more into the touch, his eyes fluttering slightly closed, “When was the last time you took a break?”
Mingi’s eyes opened as he looked towards his friends, who continued to work on their laptops but offered us friendly smiles to let us know they weren’t ignoring us. The one sitting on the left, Yugyeom, frowned as he seemed to be thinking, “Two hours ago? I think.”
I clicked my tongue and grabbed Mingi’s Iced Americano out of the cup holder, nudging his shoulder. He looked back up at me, eyes falling on the coffee before a wide smile adorned his face. I stared at it, feeling my heart race all of a sudden as Mingi took his coffee from my hand, pressing a swift kiss against my wrist in thanks just as I was pulling my hand back. I gulped hard and averted my eyes, making sure Yugyeom and Jongho hadn’t seen the small action, but they weren’t paying attention to us. Mingi took a sip of his coffee and groaned, slumping back in his chair as my hand was instantly drawn back to his neck, gently massaging his tense muscles. He sighed and let his head fall back, wide eyes staring up at me.
“Thank you, I really needed this.” He wiggled his cup of coffee before taking another sip. I hummed as I trailed my fingers higher, tangling in his black hair as I massaged his scalp, making Mingi’s eyes flutter shut again, “How come you stopped by?”
“I need to do some grocery shopping so I thought I could come by,” I answered, leaning my hip against Mingi and his chair, “Any progress with your research?”
“Yup,” Mingi nodded, sitting up straighter as he scrolled through the document he had been taking notes in, “I have a subject and the first chapter done, I think. I’ll see what my professor says, but it’s looking better than it did two days ago.”
“See?” I smiled, scratching his scalp with my nails like I knew he liked it, “I told you it would be okay, you don’t have to stress so much, Mingi…”
“She’s right,” Yugyeom agreed, flexing his fingers as he scooted his chair back, “You’ll get grey hair strands if you continue like this, man.”
The four of us chuckled as Jongho suddenly groaned, loudly, then shut his laptop, “I’m done for today, my brain is fried. Hi, Y/N, I haven’t even noticed you.”
I chuckled, well accustomed to Jongho since he’d been by Mingi’s side since their first year of university. Yugyeom was a new addition to their friend group, but he seemed like a genuine guy so far. I haven’t had the chance to hang out with him much, but based on Mingi’s stories, he had a good character.
“I think it’s time all three of you take a break,” I noted, their expressions clearly tired as Mingi pouted, shaking his head. Before he could speak up, however, Yugyeom nodded in agreement.
“She’s right, I need to stretch my legs out before I lose them.” He stood, shaking out his limbs, “Anyone wants something from the vending machine?”
“Grab me some sugary stuff, I need some stimulant right now,” Jongho said, rubbing his eyes roughly as Mingi and I chuckled. I hadn’t stopped playing with his hair, and it didn’t seem like he was bothered by it. I found myself smiling once again as I looked down at Mingi, and he must’ve felt my gaze because he tilted his head back, our gazes connecting. He smiled softly, winking before he took a sip of his coffee, and my heart was racing again. It was jarring how quickly my mood changed, I felt lighter in his presence, a little happier and more eager to do things. It was Jongho clearing his throat that snapped me out of my thoughts, eyebrows raised as I turned my head to look at him.
“Seonghwa is planning a get-together for tomorrow evening,” Jongho spoke up, rubbing his bottom lip as he seemed to be thinking, “He’s inviting a bunch of people so it won’t be small, but I know he’s mostly trying to get our friend group together. Wanna come?”
Mingi and I shared a look, understanding passing between us without needing to exchange a word. Mingi nodded as I hummed, offering Jongho a smile, “Are Giselle and Wendy coming?”
“I know he talked to them, so maybe,” Jongho answered and I hummed, feeling excited about the get-together now. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen those two, adult life sometimes gets in the way and restricts you from how often you can see your friends. It wasn’t that the three of us weren’t as close anymore, but we didn’t have to speak daily to remain good friends. Wendy and I still texted every week, she was the closest person I had to a best friend. Giselle, on the other hand, landed a really good job after we graduated and she was travelling often overseas, so I didn’t want to bother her unless she reached out first. She’s always been a dynamic person, I knew she was thriving and would stumble back to Wendy and me when life allowed her to.
“We’ll be coming, I think we both need to unwind a little,” I said and Jongho seemed to agree as he gave Mingi a pointed stare.
“Especially him,” He pointed at Mingi and I had to agree with Jongho, “He told me you two are gonna take off a few days and dip.”
“Really?” The surprise was evident in my tone as I glanced back down at Mingi, adjusting the few strands on top of his head that I had messed up. Mingi nodded, avoiding my eyes for some reason as he took another sip of his coffee.
“Yup, it’s good you two spend some time away from the city. I think I need it too.” Jongho groaned just as Yugyeom returned, a chocolate granola bar in his hand he reached out for Jongho to take. He had grabbed a coke for himself, gulping it down greedily.
“What do you need?” Yugyeom asked as he reclaimed his seat, scooting close to the table.
“A vacation,” Jongho muttered as Mingi chuckled, straw between his teeth as he chewed on it while scrolling through the document he had been reading. I didn’t want to overstay my welcome or keep them from working on their thesis, so I decided it was time for me to go. I only came to give Mingi his coffee, after all.
“I’ll leave you three to continue your studies,” I announced with a friendly smile as I squeezed Mingi’s nape one last time before stepping back, his head turning to look at me, “Have a nice day you three.”
“You too, Y/N!” Jongho and Yugyeom echoed each other cutely and I grinned, waving at Mingi as he nodded, shaking his cup of coffee to make the ice rattle.
“Thanks again, I’ll talk to you later.” I nodded and lingered there for a second, not exactly knowing why, but I wanted one last glance at Mingi. He didn’t look away either, his eyes sparkling in happiness, his shoulders now relaxed compared to how tense they were when I arrived. But I couldn’t stand here all day long and stare at Mingi like a creep, so, I turned on my heels and left, feeling Mingi’s eyes follow me. He always did that, watched me until I was out of his line of sight. It warmed my cheeks and made my heart race once again, feeling secure and safe for some unknown reason. I suppose it was the fact that someone was looking out for me that made me think all that, and yet, I didn’t want to depend on someone else. I wanted to feel secure because of myself and not because I knew someone had my back. Being independent was handy since you didn’t always have someone by your side. I have always hated finding stability in others and asking for validation, and I have always believed that as long as I knew who I was and what I stood for, I didn’t need anyone to encourage me or tell me they were proud of me. I wasn’t doing anything for anyone else in this life, everything that I did was for myself.
After leaving building E and then campus, I was headed towards the shopping centre, rows of different stores lining up and trying to lure you in with sparkly clothes but expensive price tags. I was here for a few groceries and some other things that I needed to pick up, my fridge was close to being empty since I hadn’t bothered to restock it at the beginning of the week. I knew that if Mingi and I were going to the party tomorrow, I wouldn’t have to cook dinner for Friday night, so having ramen tonight was more than satiating. I would figure something out for the weekend, perhaps I would manage to trick Mingi into coming over just to cook something for us. He was a much more talented chef than I was, after all. And just because I felt like treating myself a little today, I would grab some purple lilies on the way home and a slice of red velvet cake from my favourite patisserie.
Tumblr media
            The rest of my morning went just like I had planned it last evening. I got up early and made breakfast from whatever I still had in my fridge, I went and grabbed some coffee for Mingi before stopping by the library, and then I went grocery shopping. I even got myself some pretty flowers and the incense my boss had recommended for a lighter space, and then…came the grand deep cleaning of my apartment. It’s not like it needed that much scrubbing, but when I had a spur of energy, I would always channel it into cleaning the apartment until it was spotless again. Besides, when my emotions got too heavy and my thoughts too loud, distracting myself by tidying up my space has always helped greatly. At first, for white noise, I had put on a podcast about whatever life-changing events celebrities were up to today, but soon got bored of that and switched to music. That seemed to help a lot more as I was done with my living room in no time, glancing around and wondering how to make it homier.
I liked it as it was already, coated with beige and maroon ornaments, a dark green sofa, plants that I should definitely take more care of, books stacked upon each other in a corner, and the vinyl player I had gotten from Mingi a few years ago as a present. I had a small coffee table in front of my sofa and then a smaller wooden holder for my laptop or whatever else I wanted to store on it. The entryway was connected to the living room, thus I thought of filling up the dark space of the main corridor, wanting to see the paintings that I had hung up without having to walk close to them, or without having to switch on the big lights. The bathroom was next, which was easy to clean as the space wasn’t too big, then came my bedroom which was the most challenging one. Changing the sheets always took away my willpower to live, and I couldn’t explain why. It just sucked the joy out of my body and I found myself faceplanting on the bare mattress, groaning into it. My phone was by my side somewhere, perhaps tangled up in the sheets or hidden under another bare pillow, but I could still clearly hear my music.
I felt around for it until my fingers finally touched the cold gadget, and then I grabbed it and flipped onto my back, unlocking it. My mother had sent me a picture of a beanie she had crocheted, asking whether I wanted it. I quickly let her know that it was pretty but she’s already given me like five of those, so she should probably just give it to my little cousin. Then, scrolling through the messaging app, I found myself stopping when I came across Mingi’s name. He was right underneath my mother’s chat since he was the person I texted most. The picture he had sent of the kitty from the café was the last message he had sent today, and I sighed, chewing on my bottom lip. I knew he was busy, the café was crowded from around noon until late afternoon, but Mingi always found time to somehow text me. I knew him not talking to me for a few hours meant nothing major, sometimes we wouldn’t speak for half a day, but I felt the sudden urge to speak to him. Dialling him up wasn’t an option since he most likely couldn’t take my call, and I could’ve texted him but I had already reacted to the kitty picture with a small heart. Genie was cute, but Mingi was cuter as he held her to his chest, visibly cooing down at her.
I groaned and locked my phone, letting my head fall back against the mattress, the wheels turning in my head. I was borderline getting desperate and it was worrisome, this hasn’t happened before. I couldn’t even blame it on having sex with Mingi because this wasn’t the first time and wouldn’t be the last time either. This is who we were, friends who shared something deeper and more intimate. Nobody asked weird questions, and neither one of us tried to make it awkward, we just went with the flow. It was easy and very practical, I wouldn’t have stayed with Mingi if he had demanded a relationship, or had tried to make it seem like this thing between us was something more…because it wasn’t. Never had been and never would be, there was no reason for it. Relationships rarely worked out in the long run these days, and I wasn’t up for an unnecessary heartbreak when things were good like this. I knew Mingi felt the same way, our mindset was so similar that I was frightened by it at times, but maybe that’s why we worked so well together in this friendship…or situationship—whatever it was—we have never labelled it. I do view Mingi as my friend, though. I released a long sigh before bouncing off the mattress and springing back into action. I still had a lot to clean and it wouldn’t be done by itself. My bedroom was still a mess, my closet begging me to finally fold my clothes and put them back on their hangers.
So, once I was done with my bedroom too, I forced myself to be done with the kitchen as well, knowing that if I didn’t do it now, I wouldn’t do it anytime soon. To my luck, the kitchen didn’t need a lot of work. I rewarded myself with fresh and cold orange juice once I was done with everything, opening my window and leaning against the wall as I gazed out at the sky. The evening had arrived, the sky swirled with orange and pink hues, and birds flew overhead to somewhere warmer now that the summer was over. I loved looking at the sky, its colours were always pretty and gentle. It reminded me to take a deep breath, stilling my nerves and staying level-headed when I felt lost. Like right now with my phone in my hands for the nth time today, checking whether I had any new messages. I didn’t because Mingi still had an hour until his shift was over and he hadn’t used his phone this whole day after our chat in the morning. I sighed and pushed off the wall, placing my cup of orange juice on the counter as I headed for a much-needed shower.
Once done with my shower and skincare routine, I went to my bedroom and picked out clean pyjama pants, the white tee sitting neatly on top of my other tees catching my eyes. I grabbed it and pulled it out, bringing it up to my nose without hesitation to take a deep whiff of it. It smelled like Mingi, his strong and musky cologne, a bit faded since it’s been in my closet since his last visit, but it was still so him. Without giving myself time to reconsider my actions, I quickly pulled it over my head and shivered when the cold material touched my heated skin. It was a bit too loose for me, but it didn’t bother me as I closed my closet, grabbing my hairbrush to brush the knots out of my hair. It’s been in a bun all day long and I groaned as I gave my scalp a massage, the relief instant. I was bound to become hungry anytime now, so, without waiting for my stomach to rumble in hunger, I headed back to the kitchen to grab the Jin Ramen and prepare it for dinner. My phone was in the pocket of my sweatpants, and I found myself looking out for any vibrations as I poured water into the small pot. I took it to the stove and lit it, placing the pot over the stove head. Now I had to wait until the water started boiling, so I pulled a chair out and grabbed my phone again.
My battery would die soon, so I debated whether to put it to charge now or later on when I’d sit down to watch a new episode of the series I started watching this week. Something didn’t let me part from my phone, however, a gnawing feeling overtaking my stomach as I sighed, burying my head in my hands. What was happening to me? Why did I want to talk to Mingi so badly all of a sudden? I usually loved it when he gave me space, it felt refreshing to be with myself for the time being, but it seemed as if today all of those emotions had never existed. To distract myself, I settled on playing a puzzle game which only angered me, but at least it took my mind off Mingi for the time being. Just as I ran out of time and was ready to chuck my phone at the wall, there was a knock at my front door. I froze for a second, wondering whether I had imagined it at first or not, but there came a second knock. My eyebrows furrowed as I got up from the table, phone in my pocket now, headed for the front door. I wondered who it was at this hour. I hadn’t ordered delivery and Mingi hadn’t texted me about coming over, so I was left wondering. My mother certainly wouldn’t take a bus out of the blue to come to the city, it was usually me going home to her.
Looking through the peephole, my stomach lurched at the man standing outside my door, and I was unlocking the door before I could compose myself. I swung it open with big eyes, staring at Mingi a little starstruck as he stood with a smile, his eyebrows raised when he noticed my expression.
“Hi, am I bothering you?” He asked, glancing past me inside the apartment. I shook my head and took a step back, leaving space for him to come inside.
“Not at all,” I answered as I closed the door behind him, locking it again, “What are you doing here?”
Mingi shrugged, stepping out of his shoes as he let his backpack rest against the wall in the entrance hall, “I was thinking that maybe…I can sleep over? I know I didn’t text you beforehand, I’m sorry, but I’m so tired I forgot to do so.”
“Busy day at the café?” I asked as Mingi placed his jacket on the hanger, nodding with a long sigh, “You can stay, I was just making ramen for myself. Want some?”
“Yeah, I’m kind of starving.” Mingi rubbed his belly with a wince, “The last blueberry muffin I ate was at around…five o’clock.”
And now it was close to nine o’clock, I shook my head at Mingi. He looked sheepish as he shuffled on his feet, probably preparing himself for an earful, but suddenly the words were stuck in my throat. Looking at him felt…it made my heart race once again now that he was finally in my apartment, by my side. I had wondered all day long what he was up to, whether he was tired or not, if he’d want to hang out after his shift, and now that he was here, I felt like I could finally settle down, hoping that my thoughts would finally just stop. I don’t know what took over me, but I had the sudden urge to wrap my arms around him and squeeze him to myself, so I stepped forward and hugged him, closing my eyes as I buried my face in Mingi’s neck. He froze, a small gasp leaving his mouth as I gripped his light sweater tightly, just inhaling his familiar cologne. I could feel my tension melt away now that I felt his warm body pressed against mine so securely and firmly, and I gulped when he finally wrapped his arms around me too. Mingi’s hug was just as soulful as mine, and I had to chew my bottom lip as I had the sudden urge to cry…I had no idea why, though.
“What’s the hug for?” Mingi’s voice was quiet and warm as one hand raised to pat my head, I felt his chin pressed against the top of my head.
“I don’t know,” I muttered, a bit embarrassed to admit the real reason, but I also didn’t want to hide it from him, “I’ve missed you, I guess.”
Mingi laughed, quietly but joyfully, and I pouted…at least he hadn’t made fun of me. He then squeezed me into himself more and rubbed his chin against my head playfully, “It’s okay, I’ve missed you too.”
“Really?” My heart skipped a beat as Mingi hummed, low in his chest.
“Really.” He confirmed and I smiled, wondering why my body was suddenly flooded with so much warmth. We stayed in the hug for another second or two, until Mingi’s stomach rumbled loudly and it made both of us laugh before we broke the hug. He rubbed his belly as his cheeks flushed, pouting his lips as I shook my head at him.
“You can’t starve yourself, it’s not healthy.”
“I know, but I lost track of time.” Mingi sighed, then batted his lashes at me almost cutely, “Can I shower while you make us ramen?”
“Of course,” I chuckled, headed for the kitchen as Mingi grabbed his backpack, “But I’m watching my series after dinner, so I’m not going to bed early today.”
“Okay, I want to watch whatever you’re watching, then.” I scoffed and threw Mingi a look, but he was already headed for my bathroom, his favourite blue pyjamas with silver stars on them in his hands. Had he stopped by his apartment before coming over? Peculiar.
Interviewer: To what extent do you feel your characters are unreliable narrators? Sometimes we get accounts of important situations from different viewpoints and it’s very interesting to see what each character focuses on... Would you say that (what a character is telling) is not exactly what’s happening, that’s just how they see it?
George: I do use the device of the unreliable narrator, particularly when dealing with memory. I present these scenes sometimes from multiple different viewpoints and the versions don’t quite jibe and then you have to figure out what really happened. The only problem with that is I’ve discovered – not being perfect – that I make real mistakes, and I would prefer not to make real mistakes, but my readers are very good, and they point them out to me. I have a horse that changes sex between books and I’m terrible with eye colours, so I’ve got a couple of characters whose eye colour changes. When you make mistakes like that and when you come across the unreliable narrator, people think, ‘oh, he fucked up again.’. Actually, I didn’t fuck up, some of that is quite deliberate and I wish I could eliminate the real mistakes so that the fake mistakes could be seen for what they are, which is a sign of my literary genius. I think the point of the unreliable narrator is that you’re seeing everything filtered through the viewpoints of the characters who are your eyes and ears in that particular chapter… We have a book coming out – The World of Ice and Fire. Elio García and Linda Antonsson helped me write it, and it’s got all the history of Westeros. The original plan for this book was that Elio and Linda would go through the books I'd already written, and they would pull out all the factual nuggets of history and organize them and then I would polish what they wrote and add sidebars with things that I knew about previous kings and legends. One of the things I did in the sidebars was present history, not in an objective manner, but as something written by a maester at the Citadel who lived hundreds of years after the events and was drawing on primary sources. In the particular case of the Dance Of The Dragons: Archmaester Gyldayn, based on court records and official things; Septon Eustace, the court septon, who was giving a religious bent to everything; and the court fool, Mushroom, who was relating all the filthy things that were going on and the lascivious stories. That allowed me to present three versions of every major event that were often at dramatic odds with each other, replicating real history. Mushroom’s version would always be completely outrageous but also the most fun to read and then you’d have the other more sober versions. So, I do have fun with this point of view thing and the narrator.
bsd men and what they do for christmas
𝑫𝒂𝒛𝒂𝒊, 𝑪𝒉𝒖𝒖𝒚𝒂, 𝑭𝒖𝒌𝒖𝒄𝒉𝒊, 𝑺𝒊𝒈𝒎𝒂 𝒙 𝒇𝒆𝒎!𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓
𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒓𝒆: sfw/nsfw/ severe brainrot♡
𝑫𝒂𝒛𝒂𝒊 𐙚 ‧₊˚ ⋅
can I just start by saying that this man has never celebrated Christmas properly so he's so excited to spend time with you
Dazai prefers to keep things simple: homemade dinner and then watching a movie
you're supposed to open the presents in the morning but he isn't patient enough. the moment he sees them under the tree you so kindly decorated a few days ago he has the biggest smile on his face
"come on bella you don't seriously want to wait until morning. how could you do this to me? you know how curious I am"
you end up opening the gifts that night. he's gonna loves whatever you get him really but his heart literally melts if you knit him a scarf or write him a letter. dazai's a sucker for self-made gifts
the only appropriate way to show his gratitude is to bend you over and fuck you nice and slow, your face mushed in the cushy pillows on your shared bed as he takes you from behind
"there you go pretty girl. my, my I'm starting to think this pretty pussy of yours is my favourite gift so far"
you can bet he wears a santa hat
𝑪𝒉𝒖𝒖𝒚𝒂 𐙚 ‧₊˚ ⋅
he'd take you out to the most expensive restaurant in town for a proper meal
after that, if you find a rink that's open on Christmas eve he takes you ice skating (totally not an excuse for him to hold your hand)
once you get home you cuddle on the couch while watching a generic movie like Home Alone. it's always the classics I'm telling you
he has a fireplace!!! and insists on opening the gifts next to it
among other stuff, he gets you Christmas themed lingerie and makes you wear it in bed. cuz after all, you're the best gift he could ask for
forget about baking him sweets, the only dessert he wants is your pretty cunt. he's gonna eat you out for what seems like hours, making you cum on his tongue at least two or three times before he even thinks about fucking you
"shiit baby you look so pretty like this. you like it when I spoil you rotten don't ya? I bet you do- oh fuck yea cum f'me doll"
𝑭𝒖𝒌𝒖𝒄𝒉𝒊 𐙚 ‧₊˚ ⋅
hubby's busy even on holidays
he probably has to attend some obnoxious event and ofc you go as his plus one
he's gonna spend all evening sulking and complaining about how idiotic the whole party is
by the time you two get home he's too exhaused to do anything but you may be able to bribe him to stay awake for an hour or two with some gingerbread
can I just say he'd probably get you the nicest gifts? i'm 100% sure he has a good salary so he can afford whatever you want. expensive jewelery or skincare? sure, no problem. a stack of books with those pretty decorative covers? fine again
he probably gets a bit tipsy on mulled wine so be prepared to hear a silly yet lengthy love confession before bed
falls asleep before midnight but he's gonna make up for it in the morning if you catch my drift
𝑺𝒊𝒈𝒎𝒂 𐙚 ‧₊˚ ⋅
sweet baby's so anxious at first
he's never celebrated christmas before so he doesn't really know what to do. this whole idea is so new to him but he can't deny he loves spending time with you decorating the house
Sigma wants to try any tradition you may have; baking winter themed cookies, making crackers, watching a movie marathon
when it comes to gifts he doesn't really know what to get you so he ends up buying multiple things he thinks you'd like and he's so happy when you tell him you like them
cuddles cuddles cuddles all evening under a cushy blanket with a mug of hot chocolate in your hands
he'd look so cute wearing one of those reindeer headbands
if it's snowing, take him slow dancing in the snow or on a walk around town. he's gonna love the pretty christmas lights
Imagine
Tumblr media
Ps : English is not my birth tongue
(I have made some modifications in the imagine)
Imagine a modern AU, where the characters from game of throne, house of the dragon and a song of ice and fire, are just nerd. Where the events of got/hotd/asoiaf are legend or myth.
The skulls of the dragons haved been found, where there is a museum with them in it.
Some are more or less well know in the geek universe and the reader have developed a crush on one of them? Or even multiple of them.
As other character would have been in more artistic, they paint, sculpt and all.
Others are in business, etc...
Reader have just seen them once from far, and she/he/they (the reader) know that this crush is not logical, that she/he/they will never meet one or multiple of them. She/he/they repeat in their mind that this will never happen.
I can imagine reader having a huge crush over Daemon, (he's some kind of ceo, and have a huge community on social media) she/he/they have seen on his social media a lot of his content with woman/men's who don't look like the reader, When reader will find the courage to go to a meet up to meet him, she/he/they will see that Daemon is in a relationship with this superbe woman/men who look like Rhaenyra/male Rhaenyra. So reader just walk away before been see. Her/his/their heart would beat as fast then after running for a marathon.
For Maegor (know for his fighting post on social media) and Aegon II it would be like for Daemon but the two of them are well know to f*ck with their "fans" and reader who is just shy, have put their best outfits and are just laughed away, no difference if she/he/they are fit or on the chubby/plus size side.
Jacaerys, Baelon, Gwayne, Harwin, John Snow and Aegon I would feel awkward when meeting with reader, and try to calm her/him/them, and be kind in their reject.
Daenerys and Laenor who would not be into the gender of the reader.
Rhaenyra who would be in a relationship with Harwin. (Yes with Harwin)
The social media who would not help the crush as reader would see content from the character pop when she/he/they connect.
And so much more possibility
If you have read until there, thank you.
It would be great to have a little comment even a anonymous about what you think about this imagine what you would add to it, it could be little or not well write it's okay, just to have a little of interraction,
If you don't that right too,
I wish you a good day before begining to write the Daemon x wife reader fanfiction
🎇 — Picnic.
RELATIONSHIP: Oikawa Toru x Reader
SUMMARY: Inspired by the beautiful weather, Oikawa wants to go on a picnic with you.
A/N: Day 5 of the Hanami event! I love writing Oikawa as absolutely obsessed and in love with his partner.
Tumblr media
Toru
(Name)-chan!!!!!!!!! ♡♡♡ Let’s go on a picnic ♪(´▽`)
(Name) couldn’t even finish reading the messages before Oikawa decided to call them instead. “Hi, Toru.”
“(Name)-chan~! I miss you!” They had just seen each other at school yesterday. “It’s cherry blossom season!”
He was stating the obvious again, but (Name) loved to listen. Their walk to school yesterday was in the midst of a cherry blossom hurricane, and while that was beautiful to look out, it was less beautiful when (Name) had to pick petals off their clothes. Instead of helping, or even shaking the cherry blossoms off his own person, Oikawa took a million photos of them. He giggled with delight, saying something about how adorable (Name) looked with cherry blossoms in their hair, until Iwaizumi arrived to smack him on the back of the head. Cherry blossom petals went flying.
“I know,” (Name) responded. Oikawa phone calls took about 3 hours on average, so they closed their textbook. No homework was going to get done while this conversation occurred. “It’s really pretty now that the wind died down. I ran some errands this morning and enjoyed the view.”
There was the sound of fabric rustling. (Name) could imagine Oikawa rolling around in his bed as they talked. “Exactly! The wind died down, so I think we should spend some time outside tomorrow. How about a picnic?”
Oikawa was sickeningly sweet when it came to romance. He always favored the cliche relationship experiences— stuff like ice-skating dates and sharing a drink with two straws. Things that (Name) never thought they’d like, but Oikawa made everything seem as special as it did in the movies. He was dedicated to making the perfect experiences and it didn’t matter if they were actually perfect or not. Oikawa was like a deer learning to walk when they tried ice skating and brought (Name) crashing to the ice multiple times. But they were laughing the whole time because Oikawa made it special.
He knew (Name) was listening so he continued. “The weather is gonna be amazing tomorrow! I was thinking we would go to the park by your house since there are some nice trees over there. My sister is baking cookies tonight so I can bring some!”
“Oh, this is perfect timing,” Oikawa heard (Name)’s smile. “I bought groceries earlier because I wanted to make fruit sandwiches for us.”
“Wahh, really?! This is destiny, (Name)-chan! Fruit sandos are the perfect picnic food!” Oikawa’s energy was infectious. (Name) had never been on a picnic before— it wasn’t exactly the type of thing people did on their own —but Oikawa would make it exciting. “I’ll bring cookies, drinks, and the blanket, and you bring fruit sandos and your gorgeous self! I’ll stop by your house at noon, is that okay?”
“That’s perfect, I’m excited.” A lull in the conversation made (Name) think. “… Do you dress up for picnics?”
There was silence from Oikawa initially. He was lucky (Name) couldn’t see him, because his face was flushed red as he imagined a whole fashion show worth of cute outfits (Name) could wear. His favorites included a cute sun hat and the charm bracelet he got them for their birthday last year.
Oikawa blurted out, “you look beautiful all the time!” Which wasn’t an answer to (Name)’s question, so he continued, “but, we can dress up! We’ll look really cute together and we can take pictures!”
The mention of photos brought (Name)’s gaze to the picture frame on their desk. For the millions of photos Oikawa had taken in their years together, the photo (Name) decided to showcase was one of the first they ever took together. They were first years and little more baby-faced, and Oikawa’s eyes sparkled as he pulled (Name) close with an arm around their waist. (Name) was much more awkward, a wary smile and slightly furrowed brows, but their gaze was warm on Oikawa rather than the camera. He had asked a few times why (Name) chose that photo, and all they said was that it embodied their relationship.
“We always need more pictures,” (Name) laughed. “I’ll dress up. I need to finish my homework and make the sandwiches, so I gotta go for now. See you tomorrow, Toru.”
“Bye bye! Remember to take breaks!” Oikawa never hung up first, and after a short pause, he could still hear some shuffling on (Name)’s end. “(Name)-chan?”
(Name) tugged on their phone charm. “… Love you, have a good night.”
Oikawa rolled around in his bed so much he almost accidentally hung up. (Name) could vaguely hear a muffled squeal. “I love you too, so much!”
Tumblr media
“(Name)-chaaan~!”
Sunlight filtered through the trees and (Name) had to squint to see Oikawa waving at them from further down the sidewalk. He wore a pink sweater vest over a pastel blue button up, no doubt trying to match colors with the cherry blossoms and afternoon sky.
(Name) smiled, closing their front door behind them. “Perfect timing, Toru. You look very handsome.”
“Of course I have perfect timing! It’s my job,” Oikawa smirked, sparkling in the afternoon sun. But he was distracted by the dazzling sight of (Name) in their picnic date outfit: a light and airy ensemble to enjoy the warmer weather. Mentally, he gave himself a pat on the back for guessing they would wear that white sun hat he saw on the floor of their closet. “(Name)-chan, you look beautiful!”
He couldn’t help but close the distance and pull (Name) into a tight hug, but the large container they carried forced him to settle into a side hug. “Hmm,” Oikawa hummed. He squeezed their shoulders and pressed a chaste kiss to their temple. “Seems like a pretty big container for some fruit sandos…”
(Name) leaned into his touch and let out a dry laugh. “It’s a little more than the fruit sandos. I just got excited to make food… Let’s go set up so you can see.”
The park was a short walk from (Name)’s house, and Oikawa grabbed the container from their arms before they had the chance to protest. He tucked it under his arm, opposite from the tote bag of stuff he brought, just so he could hold (Name)’s hand on their way there.
Oikawa guided them to a very specific spot in the park; a cherry blossom tree a bit away from the path that (Name) liked to relax by sometimes. It had a perfect view of the park that Oikawa capitalized on when he spread out the gingham patterned blanket that his mother would probably be looking for soon.
He leaned over (Name)’s container with sparkling eyes, bumping the top of his head against (Name)’s. “What did you make~? I’m so excited.” Oikawa wasn’t a terrible cook by any means, but he avoided it when possible so he only had his sister’s cookies to bring. Everyone else in his life was a much better cook and he loved to mooch delicious meals off of them— (Name) in particular. The love they put into every meal was unmatched.
(Name) laughed like sunshine and took the lid off the container. “Fruit sandos, of course. And…” They pulled out two small bento boxes next to the sandwiches, showing them off to Oikawa with a subtle smile. “Octopus sausage with fried rice.”
Oikawa was starving, and among all the food, he decided that (Name) and their beautiful smile was the perfect meal. The bento box nearly fell from their hand when Oikawa swooped in for a kiss, his arm steadying the back of their head. He couldn’t help but smile against their lips as he pulled them closer, layering kiss after kiss until (Name) managed to break away long enough to get some words out.
“…We haven’t even eaten yet,” they said, and it sounded like a complaint but their eyes, shining, still focused on Oikawa’s lips.
He hummed in agreement, yet pulled (Name) back in for another kiss. (Name) melted in his arms, kissing back with their own fervor. They liked to think of themself as cautious and hesitant, but Oikawa made it easy to indulge.
He encouraged it, in fact, because it meant that the partner of his dreams would kiss him shyly until they were out of breath.
Astrology observations 🛟🛟🛟
Tumblr media
🛟Gemini Moon often flutter their eyelash during conversation or often move eyes from one side to another. They are really animated with their eyes when they speak.
🛟Capricorn Moons don't react emotionally when a serious thing is going on. They process this event emotionally after or let it go completely.
🛟Libra Midheaven might get a career because of another person, a family member, an acquintance, a friend or a spouse, committed partner.
🛟Saturn in the 2nd house and Capricorn over the 2nd house people are often asked to expand their skillset while they already are at the job. For example, they might need to learn something new, like how to use a certain device just for the job. So when they enter a job, they might lack one of the skills needed for the job.
🛟Often within families there is a Mars IC connection. So one family member might have Pisces Mars and the other has Pisces IC for example. Often times IC person sees Mars person as a family member that they want to get more close to, while Mars might even reject that closer bond or feels that bond would be too close or vulnerable for them.
🛟I noticed that you are more likely to not get from people what you are needing when there is a Neptune contact. I noticed if someone has Pisces over the 7th house, they might be more likely to cheat on Libra Suns. Or if you have Scorpio over the 12th house, you might take your Scorpio Sun for granted or there is a disconnect, unmet need that you have with them.
🛟Libra Ceres people often give superficial compliments, because they just want you to feel good about yourself. They might not always mean it, might be just more superficial about it.
🛟Meanwhile, Ceres in the 7th house cannot accept a compliment without give one back. They always reciprocate if you start complimenting them, they will compliment on a similar thing about you.
🛟 Libra Midheavens need to make their work more aesthetically pleasing or even dress themselves better for work, because this is how they could get promotion easier or find more success.
🛟 Meanwhile, Virgo Midheavens don’t really need to “decorate” or embellish their work since their professors, mentors, boss will care more about the content and the length of your work, documents.
🛟 Another thing about Virgo MC, their boss will always want to overcorrect their writings or to word things differently. People (parents, boss, professors) might try to “overcorrect” your speech, especially written.
🛟 If you have plenty of late degrees in your Natal chart, this can quite literally manifest as being a late bloomer. You might take more time to mature.
🛟 People with North Node in the 10th house have been building their success and career goals really slowly, so being well-known might not be such a shock to them, because they had the time to slowly adjust to it.
🛟 Sagittarius Mars people can go on and on about the same topic for a while, because they can explain it in sooo many different ways. They will provide a new take on it multiple times during the same conversation.
Note
do you have any advice for writing/plotting a series without the plot feeling repetitive or boring and drawn out, but still be connected and feel like the same story?
Plotting a Cohesive Series
It depends on the type of series you want to write. Some series are one big story told in cohesive parts (like The Hunger Games, ACOTAR, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Earthsea Cycle) while others are more like stand alone "episodes" united by a premise (like Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Sweet Valley High, Sherlock Holmes, Miss Marple).
If you want to plot an episodic series, you'll want to come up with a premise that allows for multiple, similarly themed adventures. There's a reason why most episodic series tend to revolve around detectives or investigators... that's an easy avenue for a variety of interesting plots. While there may be overarching "mythology" like Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes, or potentially an overarching situation in your protagonist's life that evolves over the series (such as their marriage falling apart, going through divorce, and finding new love), there won't be much in the way of plot that carries through from one book to the next.
If you want to plot a progressive series, where you take a big story revolving around a particular conflict, then break it up into cohesive parts that revolve around progressive conflicts that lead to the end (think of The Hunger Games series: the overarching conflict was the oppression of Panem by the Capitol, but the conflict of book one was The Hunger Games event. The conflict of book two was the quarter quell event. The conflict of book three was the war between the districts and the Capitol. Each story was a small, progressive part of the bigger story), start with the following posts: Creating an Overarching Plot for a Series Planning a Series Plotting a Trilogy
Those will walk you through the plotting. Making it interesting and not repetitive will depend on you coming up with a series conflict and related book conflicts that are compelling and do a good job of moving the story forward without rehashing the same types of events over and over again. And keeping it from being drawn out will depend on your ability to craft tight and cohesive plots that tell the progressive tale while allowing your characters to grow and change over the course of each book.
Good luck with your series!
In Eddie’s defense, he shouldn’t have been expected to bring a jacket. Not when Steve didn’t tell him where they were going or when he sent Eddie spiraling into a pit of pining by showing up at his doorstep with a white shirt tucked into a pair of tight blue jeans and a black jacket thrown on top, looking like he stepped out of Eddie’s dreams.
Now that he thinks about it, Steve might’ve told him to grab a jacket, but Eddie was too busy picking his jaw off the floor to listen to him.
When he stepped out of the trailer and followed Steve to his car, Eddie felt a light chill in the air, but since he assumed Steve was taking them to the movies or for dinner at that diner he likes, he figured the flannel he was wearing over his Metallica singlet would be enough to withstand it.
Eddie doesn’t know exactly when this became a thing they did- Steve picking him up and taking him to dinner or a movie or ice cream or roller skating.
(That last one was Eddie’s least favorite one because he spent half the time they were there falling on his ass. Or maybe it wasn’t, because the other half was spent holding on to Steve’s hand as he guided Eddie around the rink and helped him keep his balance.)
Eddie still can’t help but feel surprised whenever Steve turns up at his door, even if it happens multiple times a week these days. He knows this is what friends do, but maybe it’s still just a little hard to believe that he’s friends with Steve Harrington.
(“You make it sound like I’m some kind of celebrity, man,” Steve said the first time Eddie voiced his shock about him wanting to spend time with Eddie.
“Dude, you are the king of Hawkins! You are a celebrity!” Eddie said, dramatically shaking Steve’s shoulders which earned him a mighty eye roll and a playful shove. “And celebrities don’t want to spend time with freaks like me.”
Steve’s face softened at that, he bumped Eddie’s shoulder with his. “Well, this one does.”)
Eddie knows Steve is being genuine every time he says he wants to hang out, but a part of him always expects Steve to get tired of him and ditch Eddie, and start taking a nice pretty girl on these outings instead.
(“Dates, they’re dates,” Max deadpanned after hearing Eddie ramble about Steve for roughly ten minutes straight. She’d clocked Eddie’s feelings for Steve right away when he came back from the roller rink with his backside bruised, but still with a dopey smile on his face to Max waiting for him at the steps of his trailer. “Steve Harrington is taking you out on dates!”
“He’s not, they’re not dates,” Eddie said with a firm shake of his head.
“Dude, Lucas literally took me to the roller rink last week.”
“Aw, cute. Did he hold your hand?”
“I held his, I skate, remember? And for a jock, he’s got terrible balance,” she says, lips twitching into a little smile. “Not as bad as yours though.”
“Hey!”)
Even if Max insists on calling them dates, Eddie won’t. He can’t. He knows Steve doesn’t see them that way so he can’t do it either, not if he wants to protect his heart.
So he ignores that Steve opens the door to his car for him like he would if this was a real date and he ignores that he lets Eddie pick the music or that he keeps a few of Eddie’s tapes in his car for him to choose from, even if they’re not at all what he likes, and he ignores the way he keeps glancing at Eddie at stop signs or red lights with a sweet little smile that makes his stomach swoop like when he went through the gate to the Upside Down did, only better.
Or he tries to ignore it, at least.
“Soooo where are we going?” Eddie asks, contorting himself so he can sit cross-legged in Steve’s passenger seat after picking the music for the ride.
Steve bops his head to the beginning of a Dio song and Eddie can’t help but feel proud.
“It’s a surprise,” he says.
Eddie groans. “Is this surprise also going to end up with me not being able to sit properly for a week?” He only realizes how that sounds when Steve’s head snaps to him, eyebrows high on his forehead. God. “You know cause I kept falling on my ass at the roller rink, not because- uh.”
He doesn’t know how to finish the sentence, but luckily Steve spares him. With a soft laugh, he says, “Don’t worry, you won’t have trouble sitting after tonight.” Then Steve smirks, the little shit. “From falling on your ass- or some other reason.”
Eddie flushes bright red.
He lowers the window and shivers when the cold air hits his face, but the wind helps cool down his flushed cheeks so he leaves it open. He notices that instead of driving them downtown, Steve is driving them further out.
“I’m not gonna have trouble sitting ‘cause you’re luring me into the woods to murder me? Is that it?”
“And why would I want to murder you?” Steve asks, pinching the bridge of his nose like entertaining Eddie’s nonsense causes him physical pain.
The wind blows Eddie’s hair away from his face. “Maybe you’re jealous of my luscious hair.” He hopes the wind makes him look like one of those cover shoots on the magazines that he sees at the store, but realistically, he knows he probably looks like a dog sticking his head out the window. “My naturally beautiful hair that doesn’t need any Farrah Fawcett spray.”
Steve narrows his eyes at Eddie. “That little shit told you!”
Eddie grins. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Yes, you do. Dustin told you, didn’t he?”
“I won’t reveal my sources,” he says, pretending to zip up his lips.
“You don’t have to, you dork. Dustin is the only one I told.” He pauses, thinking. “Maybe I am committing murder tonight.”
“Mine?”
“Henderson’s. And then yours so the secret dies with you.” He glances at Eddie with a smile. “And maybe because I am a little jealous of your beautiful hair.” His voice is a little too soft to sound like a joke.
Eddie gives him a shy smile and then flicks his hair over his shoulder with a dramatic flare. Steve laughs, head thrown back, as they drive past the Leaving Hawkins sign.
***
Steve drives them to the top of a hill just outside of Hawkins.
Eddie’s first thought when Steve parks his car next to a little forest is that maybe he’s actually planning to murder him tonight.
His second thought comes when Steve opens Eddie’s door and a gust of wind hits Eddie, making him realize that no, his flannel won’t be enough. He’s going to freeze his ass off so even if Steve doesn’t murder him, Eddie will die anyway.
His third thought comes when Steve takes hold of his wrist and drags him out of the car and towards a cliff overlooking most of Hawkins.
Eddie voices that thought with an appreciative whistle.
“Holy shit, that’s a killer view.”
“Right?” Steve asks with a grin. His fingers are still wrapped around Eddie’s wrist and he can feel the way he’s bouncing excitedly from one foot to the other.
“Yeah, wow. You wouldn’t think that Hawkins is a shit town from up here,” Eddie says, taking in not only the night lights, but the stars above them too, shining brighter than Eddie has ever seen them.
“Yeah, it almost looks normal, no monsters or alternate dimensions.”
“No hordes of angry town people who want to burn you at the stake.”
Steve gives Eddie’s wrist a comforting squeeze. He glances at the ground. “No shitty parents calling you a disappointment and an embarrassment,” he says, voice barely above a whisper.
Eddie frowns. He shakes his hand until Steve loosens his hold, but before he can retreat it into his pocket because he thinks Eddie is trying to get him to let go, he tangles his fingers loosely with Steve’s. “They came back tonight?”
Steve stares down at their hands, his thumb rubs over one of Eddie’s rings. “Yeah, and they managed to pick a fight within five minutes of walking through the door. Must be some kind of record.”
Eddie squeezes his hand. “I’m sorry, Steve.”
With a sigh, Steve finally looks up. “It’s not your fault, and besides-” He smiles at Eddie. “I didn’t bring you here to talk about them.”
Eddie narrows his eyes at him. “What did you bring me here for?”
Steve’s smile turns into a grin, he drops Eddie’s hand and starts walking backward toward the car. “Wait here.”
“You better not be abandoning me to die here!”
He gets no reply. Eddie squints at him as he rummages through the trunk of his car but it’s a little hard to see clearly in the dark. He wraps his arms around himself while he waits, feeling colder by the second, and resists the urge to ask Steve if he has an extra jacket lying around. It’ll send him into Mother Hen mode and he’ll start fussing about Eddie catching something and probably scold him for not bringing his own jacket.
So he acts as nonchalant as possible about the cold when Steve comes back, hiding something behind his back that Eddie can’t see.
“I didn’t bring you here to murder you or abandon you. I brought you here to have a picnic with me.” As he says this, he shows Eddie what he was holding behind his back- a checkered blanket and a goddamn picnic basket.
Eddie blinks dumbly at the two items and then at Steve, mouth gaping like a fish. “A picnic?”
Steve nods a little shyly. “Um yeah, is that okay?”
Eddie lets out a disbelieving laugh. A fucking picnic under the stars- oh, Max is going to have a field trip teasing Eddie about this one!
He realizes that Steve might be taking his reaction the wrong way when he starts to fidget so Eddie wipes the surprise from his face and grins at Steve. “Depends on what you packed in there, big boy.”
A high-pitched laughter tumbles out of Steve’s lips and even with just the moonlight he can see his cheeks tint pink. “Well, do you like grilled cheese?”
***
Eddie makes grabby hands at the basket. Once Steve spreads the blanket on the ground, he flops down and starts digging through the contents.
There’s grilled cheese wrapped in tin foil paper, two bags of chips, two sodas, and a big serving of pie. Eddie’s mouth waters.
“So,” Steve asks, wrapping his arms around his knees. “What do you think?”
“I think,” Eddie pauses, thinking. “That I don’t care if you murder me as long as you let me eat this first.”
“You’re so annoying,” Steve snorts, rolling his eyes.
“If I’m so annoying,” Eddie says, neatly arranging the food between them on the blanket, or as best as he can on the uneven ground. “Then why did you go through all this trouble for little ol’ me?”
Steve bites the inside of his cheek. He looks like he wants to say something, but then changes his mind, only to part his lips again. The look in his eyes betrays nothing, no matter how much Eddie tries to read it. Despite the cold, Eddie’s hands start to sweat a little.
But then Steve shakes his head and looks down, picking up his grilled cheese. When he looks back at Eddie again, his eyes are soft, crinkling at the corners, but whatever he saw in them before is now gone. “Let’s eat before it gets cold, okay?”
After the first bite, Eddie discovers that Steve must be some kind of grilled cheese genius. When he tells Steve this, he waves it off with a shy smile, but he seems pleased.
They talk in between bites of food, or in Eddie’s case, through mouthfuls of melted cheese. The whole time, Eddie tries to ignore the chill in the air, but every gust of wind reminds him he’s only wearing a singlet under a very thin flannel and neither does much to protect him from the cold. Still, he does his best to hide his shivering from Steve, but it’s a little hard to do when Steve won’t take his eyes off of him for some reason.
Right now, he’s staring almost unblinkingly at Eddie with his legs crossed at the ankles and his arms wrapped around his knees, a soft smile painted on his lips as Eddie tells him how excited he and the kids are about the next Hellfire meeting.
“You’re always excited about your nerdy game,” Steve smirks.
“Fair, but this time it’s different because the kids finally convinced Max to play!”
Steve’s eyebrows shoot up his forehead. “How did they manage that?”
“Well, they didn’t convince her so much as they tricked her into it.”
“Yeah, that makes more sense.”
“But! It doesn’t matter cause she’s going to love it so much she’ll beg to join again! I’ve been working on her character sheet to make it perfect for her and I got her this cool set of dice- red dice, of course, cause her character will be called Ruby. Ruby the Rebel.”
Steve’s smile turns impossibly softer at Eddie’s excited rambling. “That sounds just as cool as her. What kind of- uh like, what’s her-”
“Class?” Eddie asks, stomach swooping a little at Steve trying to remember things about their nerdy game so he can ask Eddie. Steve nods. “Oh, she’s a-” He cuts himself off when a cool breeze stirs beneath his flannel and he shivers with a curse. “Jesus H. Christ!”
Steve startles and his head whips in different directions, looking out for danger. “What?”
“Sorry, nothing! It’s just really cold! Sorry!”
Steve relaxes, then frowns. Narrowed eyes travel over Eddie’s body. “Wait, where’s your jacket?”
“Uh.”
“Did you leave it in the car?”
“More like, left it at home?” Steve’s face turns pinched. “You didn’t tell me where we were going, I didn’t know I would need a jacket!”
“Yes, you did, I told you to bring one!” Steve says, exasperated.
Oh. So Steve did tell him to bring a jacket. Huh.
“Here,” Steve says and then starts shrugging off his jacket.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m giving you my jacket, obviously.” He removes it completely and Eddie gives himself a second to commit to memory just how tight Steve’s white shirt is. It’s also thin. Eddie shakes his head.
“But you’ll be cold.”
“I won’t.” He shrugs. “I run hot.”
“You’re hot,” Eddie says and realizes too late that his brain-to-mouth filter must’ve been damaged by the cold. “I mean you look hot, like you don’t look cold.”
Steve bites down on a grin. “Take the jacket before you catch something, Eds.”
“O-kay, mom Steve.” He accepts the jacket, and when he puts it on, he can’t help but sigh happily. It’s warm from Steve’s body heat. It also smells just like him. “Thanks.”
“No problem.” Steve smiles. “Now, what were you saying?” He asks and it takes Eddie a minute to remember what they were talking about, distracted as he is by Steve’s warmth and smell surrounding him.
***
“Do you ever think about leaving Hawkins?”
Eddie jerks his head back, out of the basket where he was looking for the forks that Steve packed for the pie. “Uh, like, every day of my life, man.”
“Because of Vecna?”
“No, long before that.” Eddie finds the fork. Singular. “You only packed one, Stevie, but I can just use my fingers.” He wiggles them and Steve shakes his head.
“We can share,” he says. Alarms go off in Eddie’s head at the thought of passing the fork back and forth between them, sharing the slice of pie. He hasn’t been to that many dates in his life, but sharing dessert sounds a lot like a date thing.
“Sure,” he says, shrugging casually. Steve takes the first bite and hands it to Eddie. “Anyway, yeah. I always knew I wanted to leave. Knowing that there’s an alternate dimension at our feet that could pop up the next monster at any second only made the urge stronger, but. Gotta graduate first.”
“Where will you go? When you graduate?”
“I don’t know. Some big city with a cool music scene, maybe. I can join a band that’s actually going somewhere.” He snorts. “No offense to Corroded Coffin.”
Steve chuckles. “I’ve always thought you belong in some big city.”
“Yeah?” Eddie asks with an arched eyebrow.
“Yeah, dude, you’ve always seemed- I don’t know, too big for Hawkins,” he says with an awed tone. Eddie’s throat feels dry, he skips the next bite of pie, giving it back to Steve. “Like you should be somewhere with people as loud and talented and great as you.”
Eddie swallows thickly. His eyes haven’t left Steve’s face, but Steve isn’t looking at him, instead he’s staring ahead at Hawkins or maybe like he’s trying to see even further than that. Eddie’s glad he’s not looking at him, he doesn’t even know what his face is doing right now, listening to Steve talk about him like that, there’s probably hearts in his eyes or something.
“I- I’ve always wanted to go to New York,” Eddie says to break the silence. Steve hums like he thinks it’s a good idea. “What about you, Steve? Do you think about leaving?”
“Sometimes. I- I’ve actually been saving up money to go to college. Nothing prestigious like Nance or Robin, just community college maybe.”
“That’s great, Steve,” Eddie says.
“But I don’t think I can leave until I know it’s over, you know? The Upside Down, especially if the kids are still going to be here.”
“Yeah, I’ve thought about that. Kinda makes you want to steal another RV, pack them all up and leave Hawkins for good.”
Steve meets his eyes finally. He smiles. “Yeah, exactly.”
“I think we could do it,” Eddie says, entertaining the thought for a moment.
“You don’t think we’d end up in jail? For grand theft auto and kidnapping children?”
“Shh, let a guy dream, Harrington.”
“Okay, okay,” Steve says, holding up his hands in defense. “You know I haven’t told anyone about saving up for college. Just you.”
“Not even Buckley?”
Steve shakes his head. “I already failed once trying to get in. I don’t want anyone to know that I’ve failed again. I don’t want to disappoint anyone.”
Eddie thinks about what Steve said when they got here, about the fight with his parents, about them calling Steve a disappointment. “You could never disappoint me. Or Buckley or the kids. We all worship the ground you walk on, King Steve.”
“Shut up,” Steve says with a lighthearted shove to Eddie’s shoulder. “You don’t.”
“We do! Because we know just how good and badass you are, and whoever can’t see that is a butthead.”
“Are you calling my parents buttheads?” Steve asks with a barely concealed snort.
“That’s exactly what I’m doing!” He puts his hands around his mouth and yells. “The Harringtons are buttheads!”
Steve breaks into giggles, falling back against the blanket, squirming with laughter. “You’re ridiculous.”
“Yeah, but you love it,” Eddie says without thinking, and watches as something flashes across Steve’s face.
Before he can backtrack or brush it off as a joke, Steve sits up again, his jaw set with determination.
“The fight with my parents was because of you,” he says. And okay, that’s not what Eddie was expecting.
“Me?”
“They came home just as I was packing this up.” He gestures at the picnic basket. “I didn’t hear them come in until they came into the kitchen. They thought I was doing all of this for a girl so they started going off about me wasting my life and everything that they worked so hard to give me just to go on dates and work at a goddamn video store. They told me that it didn’t matter how much I tried, this girl was going to realize I was a failure and leave me. I don’t know what made me more angry- what they were saying about me or that they were talking about you like they knew you.” Steve pauses and takes a deep breath. “So I snapped and I told them I wasn’t packing all of that for a girl, that I was doing it for you. A guy. And that you would never leave me because I work at a video store or because our dates consist of grilled cheese sandwiches and roller skating and babysitting kids. And I guess that was a little presumptuous of me since we never really agreed that these were dates and I don’t even know if you-”
“Yes,” Eddie says when he finally finds his voice. He lost it somewhere around Steve calling this, and all the things they’ve been doing together for weeks, dates.
Steve blinks, his lips press together like he’s trying to stop himself from smiling, from getting ahead of himself. “You don’t know what I was going to say.”
Eddie rolls his eyes. “What were you going to say?”
“That I don’t even know if you feel the same way I feel for you.”
“Yes.” Eddie repeats. “Holy fuck, Steve, yes I do.”
Steve stops trying to hide his smile. He beams at Eddie. “Yeah? You’re crazy about me too?”
Eddie whines low in his throat. “Steve.”
Steve pushes himself to his knees and then he closes the distance between them by crawling towards Eddie. “Are you?”
“Yes.”
“You can’t stop thinking about me and you want to listen to me talk all day about nerdy shit too?” Steve asks, crowding against Eddie until he has no choice but to lean back until he’s lying down on the blanket and Steve is hovering over him.
“Sports shit but yeah, yes.”
Steve leans down until his lips are right next to Eddie’s ear. “You want to kiss me too?” Eddie shivers, and this time, it’s not because of the cold. He’s never felt warmer in his entire life.
“Yes,” he says. “Please, Steve.”
Steve closes the distance between them and crashes his lips against Eddie’s, kissing him hard and desperately, drawing a whimper out of him. Eddie kisses back with just as much enthusiasm, his hands coming up to grip Steve’s waist, his shoulders, his arms.
His freezing arms.
“Christ, Steve!”
“What? What?” Steve asks, pulling back just enough so that Eddie can see his face- flushed with parted, swollen lips and blown pupils.
And oh. Yeah. Eddie needs to see Steve looking like this again soon. Preferably when he’s not freezing to death.
“You’re freezing, man. Why didn’t you say anything?”
“I was a little busy,” Steve smirks.
Eddie shakes his head. “I’m giving you your jacket back,” he says, squirming as he tries to shrug off the jacket with Steve still on top of him.
“No, Eds-”
“Then we’re going to the car.”
“But I can’t kiss you like this in the car,” Steve pouts and the sight of a pouty Steve because he wants to straddle Eddie and kiss him stupid shouldn’t make him consider staying out here in the cold, but it does. Just for a moment.
“You can, if we climb in the backseat, baby,” Eddie says with a sly grin.
Steve’s eyes widen, his eyes flick to the car and then to Eddie’s lips and Eddie sees the moment he makes a decision. “Yeah, okay. Maybe I am a little cold. Let’s go.”
They pick up the trash and the blanket in record time, even while stealing short, giggly kisses.
“I can’t believe we’ve been on so many dates and you haven’t even asked me out once!” Eddie says, balling up the tin foil paper and throwing it at Steve’s face. He throws his head back with a groan. “I can’t believe Max was right!”
Steve raises an eyebrow. “You talk to Max about me? Your fifteen-year-old neighbor?”
Eddie arches an eyebrow right back. “Oh, so you don’t talk to Dustin, your fifteen-year-old best friend about me?”
“Of course I do,” Steve sniggers. “He’s the one who told me you can’t roller skate to save your life.”
“Then why did you take me to the roller rink?” Eddie asks with an undignified squeak, feeling the phantom pain of his many falls.
“So I could do this-” Steve takes hold of Eddie’s hands, tangling their fingers together, “-all night.”
Eddie flushes, looking down at their hands with a smile. “That was a good plan, I’ll give you that.”
He rubs his thumb over Eddie’s knuckles. “I have more where that came from.”
The touch makes Eddie’s insides flutter, he pulls a strand of hair across his face with his free hand, but Steve can probably still see his red cheeks. “Yeah?”
“Mhm,” Steve hums. He crowds against Eddie until his back hits the car, pinning him against it. “And I can show you. If you agree to go on a date with me.” Steve’s free hand plays with the lapel of his jacket on Eddie. “Officially, I mean.”
Eddie grins. “I thought you’d never ask,” he says, pressing a quick kiss to the corner of Steve’s mouth.
Then he’s dragging him into the backseat, and for the rest of the night, neither of them feels cold again.
Don't play with fire | - Part 1 - |
Authors Note: Hey. This is my first try ever writing in English, since it's not my first language. I read it over several times, hopefully to correct all mistakes. Also this is the first try of fanfiction since 2016. Sooo I appreciate feedback and let me know what you think.. Please be kind. 🙏🥹
Originally I wanted to write a short backstory, but I think it’s just going to be multiple parts if you want to read it. So see this as a kind of introduction. In further chapters I wanted to try myself to write my smut fantasies out. I'm also going to upload this later to Ao3 under the username Lorily96.
-> Writing in 'italic' is supposed to be the your thoughts
Some people say life is a cruel joke. Unexpected twists and pain waiting around every corner. Some people say the glass is never empty and everything happens for a reason. You can learn from anything.  Everyone you meet is either there for a reason, for a season or... for ever. However the world is not black and white, sometimes there is no reason at all. You know how you sometimes laugh when something bad happens to a stranger or friend. Like their ice cream falling to the ground, seeing a cop writing a ticket for somebody else. I think ‘Life’ itself is bored just like us. That's why sometimes you feel like it’s only getting worse. Doesn’t matter what you do, there is no luck to be found. That's exactly how you felt that day. Just strings of bad luck and to this day you still question yourself. Why? Why didn’t you say something? Why did you do it? Why didn’t you walk away? How did all of this happen in the first place? The events of that day living rent-free in your head, keeping you up at night.
~ Sometimes Life has a dark and twisted humor. ~
Tumblr media
All those overprotective dads, who only want the best for their daughter. Your dad was one of them. He always told you: "Be wary of strangers", "Never tell someone your name if you feel something is off", “Go with your gut feeling” and "don't go near the car of a stranger". Seriously, he had good points.
Unfortunately, he didn’t tell you what to do, when you suspect someone is a serial killer. Maybe running or keeping your nose out of the situation would have been a great option. Well, since daddy had been out of the picture since you were 12, maybe he would have some kind of advice for that. Your mom had found out he was cheating, and after the divorce, he cared more about his new girlfriend and son than you. Why care about the daughter you raised for 12 years, your beloved wife, when you can just throw it away and play happy family with the next woman you find.
At times, you wonder if that's the reason you had some kind of daddy issues. Perhaps you liked older men like him because of that. Even today, his face still haunts and excites you at the same time. Remembering how drawn you were to him. He was so charming and devilishly handsome. You felt sick and appalled at yourself for feeling this way. Everything he did, seemed to play into his hands. Who would suspect the nice and charming dad next door? How many times did you lay awake in bed at night, the events of that day replaying themselves over and over. Like a continuous loop with no escape…
It felt like yesterday. The only reason you were at the concert in the first place was because one of the other guys quit a week before. You couldn’t even blame him, since your boss was a total dick. Ever since you started working in the company a year ago he was just looking for a reason to fire you. Always criticizing you, commenting when your bathroom break was too long. Wore a skirt? Too provocative. Wore a sweater? Be more professional. You could make a whole list of the things he pulled off. You fucking hated working in that place and even more to work outside or around many people. You chose to work in IT because you could work alone and in peace.
Outside of work, you were a relatively social person. Many friends and people seemed to like you. Despite preferring to rather stay home alone, with your cat and books, you were surprisingly good at making conversations. It felt strange, kind of ironic. Life had a stupid sense of humor. Sometimes you even felt like you were good at reading people. Your mom called it your sixth sense.
Working at the arena for the concert was a real hassle. It was so stressful. Over a week before the actual concert there was already a meeting. Everybody working in the stadium that night was there. They didn’t reveal too much that day. Apparently the whole concert was also a trap for this serial killer?
They called him - The Butcher
You remember hearing and reading about him in the news. He had killed 12 people till now and the FBI was sure he was going to show up there. Everything was top secret, everyone had an extra card for controls during that day and a code word. On the day of the concert you arrived extra early to get the last directions for the day. They even told you what he potentially could look like.
Work was boring. The company you were working for was responsible for ensuring that all the screens, cameras were working, both on the outside and on the stage, that the wifi was stable and so on… not the hardest task. There also were others who ensured the overall technology and speakers worked, but that wasn’t your job. Most of the time you and your colleague were sitting backstage, talking shit about your boss and listening to the show, at least you were, because lovely colleague Eric would do most of the stuff alone. What a sweetheart, right?
It felt a bit bad taking advantage of him. You knew he had a big crush on you, he wasn’t exactly hiding it. Relaxing backstage appealed more to you. Therefore it was totally fine with your conscience. This job was a pain in the ass and you already started applying for new jobs. You just had to hang on for a few more weeks. Hoping you could quit soon and work in a non toxic environment.
The first half of the concert remained uneventful. Fortunately, because your room was in the backstage area, you even talked to Lady Raven for a bit on her break. She was so nice and friendly. On and off stage, her whole personality was the same. Which you found truly great, a person like that was hard to find nowadays. The thinker for example seemed like a total dick from what you saw. Lady Raven and you also had some similar interests, it was so easy to talk to her.After asking about it, she told you that they hadn’t found the Butcher yet. She even told you a few more details on how the police got the information of him being there. Before she left you wished her good luck with the rest of her show and went back to work for a bit.
Later on during the second half of the show, you stepped near the stage. The atmosphere felt incredible. The lights, the performance on stage and the fans screaming and singing the songs of Lady Raven. How you wished to be standing in the crowd just vibing and dancing to the music instead of working. If it weren’t for all the extra police and security in the arena, it would be a normal concert.
Slowly you started making your way backstage as you saw people approaching from the audience room. Honestly you weren’t keen on talking to many people. Lady Raven started talking and announcing her dreamer girl, Riley. That must be why the people came in from the audience. At the end of the stage you turned around again. On your former spot stood a man. He was tall, with a nice backside, no doubt the father of the dreamer girl, looking at the stage.  Though he seemed to take a quick look around every now and then. Looking at him, he didn’t look like he was having much fun being here. He looked rather stiff. As you started walking back in his direction to get a better look, Eric called you. Sighing, you turned around. As you were making your way backstage, you felt like someone was watching you.
“Hey, somewhere outside, a monitor has a bluescreen. I'll quickly go fix it. The show is nearly over. After that, we can start with cleaning things up.” Eric told you, as you walked down the stairs towards him.
“Okay, do you need my help?” You asked him, pushing a blonde strand of hair behind your ear, batting your eyes at him, hoping he would say no.
“No of course not! I can do it alone. The problem is not that hard.” he answered, trying to show off.
You smiled. “Okay great! Then, see you later.”
You walked past him into the backstage area. It wasn't that you disliked him, he was nice for a work colleague. However, nothing more. For one you had not much in common besides work, and he was a pushover. You could not imagine being with a man who had no opinion and just waited for you say anything until he stated his opinion.
‘Like have an opinion, Boy?’ Rolling your eyes at the mere thought of his personality, you grabbed yourself a drink and went back to your little break room.
There you waited for the concert to finish, which you knew shouldn’t take too long now. When you heard the last song finished you decided to grab your purse and go into the hallway. Considering it was too good of an opportunity to pass by. When would you ever see celebrities up so close again? Maybe you could ask Lady Raven for a selfie? Or an autograph? You weren’t the biggest fan, but there was a possibility you could sell that autograph later on.
Uncertain where to go, you stood in the hallway. Dancers ran past you. Nobody seemed to take much notice of you. Coming from the left, you saw the thinker walking towards you, and kind of flirting with someone behind him. ‘Spicy.’ A light chuckle escaped you. Curiosity filled your brain and you decided to head in the direction he came from.
In the middle of the hallway, where several corridors met, stood Riley, the dreamer girl and her dad. If you remembered her name correctly that is. You stopped walking and observed them quietly from a little further away.
‘Did the Thinker flirt with him?’ Now that you got a better view of him, you found that theory pretty reasonable. It felt almost unfair how attractive he looked.
‘Was he married? Presumably.’ Not that you would consider making a move, besides his daughter was standing right next to him. That would be so awkward. Also remembering, the last time you let someone in, things unraveled in ways that left you a bit guarded. Despite your people skills, your mom and you apparently both had a thing for cheaters. After a year of being single, you told yourself it was for the best. Except for your job, life was good– At least that's what you tried to tell yourself.
Nevertheless you would never have considered being attracted to older men. He was at least 10 years older than you, maybe more. You were 25, and he could easily be in his 30s or even early 40s. All of a sudden the profiler’s description came back into your head: tall, strong, dark hair...
Even though you've never been overly spiritual, you did believe in a sixth sense. The longer you thought about it, him standing in that hallway backstage. The way he subtly kept looking around for a second. Nobody noticed. ‘Wait… Did he notice you watching them?’
Pulling out your phone, you started swiping and typing randomly. Trying to look busy. Your thoughts were racing. He matched the description perfectly, and here he was, casually joking with his daughter like he didn’t have a care in the world. Despite his friendly smile and demeanor, there was something unsettling about him—a bit too friendly, almost fake?
After looking at him a bit more, it just clicked into place. You couldn’t shake off the feeling that that may be him, the Butcher. Until now they hadn't found him, not that you knew of. So they were still searching for him. People backstage were rarely searched, except when they wanted to leave the arena.
‘God, you should think rationally. Could that really be him? Still he seemed normal…’
Except the look in his eyes. That look gave you unpleasant goosebumps. You grew anxious, you knew where the camera room was. Police officers were definitely going to be there and maybe the profiler was there. Then you could ask her if the man had been checked by security or talk to her about your uneasy feeling.
Unfortunately you would have to pass him to get to the camera office. If he hadn't noticed you before, he certainly would then. Could you keep your cool? It didn’t matter. You knew you would overthink it in the evening, you had to do it. Your heart was starting to pound audibly in your chest.
‘Deep breaths–
Breathe in, breathe out.
Close your eyes, take a deep breath and go. Don't panic.’ Grabbing your phone tightly in your hand, you started walking.
As you approached them, Lady Raven emerged from her dressing room and started talking to Riley. She was so happy, grinning from ear to ear. As they chatted happily, the dad leaned forward and whispered something to Lady Raven that you couldn't make out.
As soon as you heard her tell his daughter that they would talk shortly, alarm bells were going off in your head. Your brain stopped working, and your legs and mouth moved on their own. You felt a certain hero complex activating within you. ‘What if he was the Butcher? There was a possibility’
You felt uncomfortable leaving her alone with him. Something felt off. Before they could leave, you sprinted the last few meters towards them. Trying to cry on arrival.
“Lady Raven, hay… I eh.. I.. I don't... Could I.. could I talk to you for a second? Please, I don't know what to do.. I–” you sniffled. You tried your best to cry. ‘Come one, you could lie better than that’, you thought angrily at yourself. ‘Who would believe you like this?’ This wasn’t going to be the first lie you ever told. You even lied on your last résumé.
She immediately turned around her face full of concern and worry. For a second you thought you saw his jaw tensing and left eye twitch. ‘Did you imagine it? ‘
“Oh no. Hey, what's going on? You’re Y/N, right? We met earlier.” You nodded your head, keeping the hand over your lower face, while trying to remain in tears. For once, you were glad that you chose to wear your hair open today. Your long blond locks shielded your face even more from the prying eyes around you.
“What's going on? Are you alright? Did something happen?” She asked more and more questions, putting her hand on your shoulder, trying to comfort you.
“There was an accident, I...“ You just kept mumbling incomprehensible nonsense. Still shaking, sobbing, trying not to look up. You didn't even know what to do, what to say.
“Hay, ehm… I’m so sorry. Could you give us a second? I will be right back. It won’t take long.." she said, apologizing to the two of them.
“Of course, no problem. This seems serious! Take your time.”, said the man, his voice laced with concern.
‘Why did he sound so genuine, like he is truly concerned? Maybe I judged him too fast?‘
Gently Lady Raven took one of your hands and started to lead you away. It didn’t matter anyway, there was no going back. Now you need to play your outburst to the end and come up with a plausible story. While she brought you into her dressing room, it felt as if someone was staring holes into your back.
After the door closed, you immediately felt more at ease. Bit by bit you tried to calm yourself. At least that was what it seemed on the outside. You don’t remember much of what you told her, some kind of sob story. The first idea that came into your mind. About your dad having a car accident. The whole car crashed... With your car being parked further away from the arena and you were so afraid your dad could die. That you at worst wouldn't make it to the hospital in time with all the police controls going on in and outside the arena.
You cried, trying to think your story would be about your mom and not your dad. Which did the trick and made you sad. Being the kind person she is, Lady Raven suggested that you could drive with her in her limo, so you didn't have to go through the queues or security, and she would take you to the hospital or your car. You thanked her over and over again, as you wiped your tears away.
How high was the possibility that the dad would like to briefly speak to Lady Raven again, when you went in the hallway again? Then everything would have been in vain. However you could’t pressure her. Something came over you, so you suggested that perhaps the other two could join them. Maybe they could also drive in the car? You tried explaining your suggestion somewhat rationally. That way she can still talk with the dad,
you would feel extremely bad if you kept her from talking to her fans. You didn’t want to cause any more trouble.
Surprisingly, that seemed to work? No further persuasion was necessary. Which left you very surprised and perplexed. Was she truly such a kind person? Who was so trusting? Especially with everything that was going on here today. ‘Did she have such a shielded and good life, that she blindly believed you?’ You wondered.
‘Unimaginable…that could not be the case. You didn’t believe there were any truly good people left in this world.’
After another minute of collecting yourself, you went after Lady Raven. She had already gone ahead and had already told them the short version of what was going on, when you arrived. Asking them if they wanted to come too, so she and the dad could have their talk. She was way too kind and somewhat naive to even suspect you’d be lying. You almost felt ashamed of yourself, even stupid. What were you even doing?
The daughter gasped and tried not to jump up and down in joy, the way she gripped her dad's arm. She seemed to be torn between worrying about you and happiness. By being asked to drive with Lady Raven, her seemingly favorite artist in the world. She was honored and extremely happy for a few seconds, then she stopped and looked at you sympathetically.
“I’m so sorry about the thing with your dad...” Nodding weakly at her, trying to keep your act up, you gave her a half smile. Unknowingly to you, you had started twisting the ring on your middle finger. A Tic. Something you always did when you're stressed out or nervous.
The ring was nothing special. A plain black ring with some Greek numbers on it. A gift from your mom; from the only holiday you ever had taken outside the USA and since you were eighteen, there was hardly a day you didn’t wear it.
“Why don’t we lead the way? That way, we can talk.” said Lady Raven and gestured to the man.
“Yes of course... I mean, the circumstances are not the best, but thank you for considering Riley and me. We appreciate it.” He replied, looking concerned but with something unreadable in his eyes that made you want to look anywhere but at him.
“It is no problem at all. Actually it was Y/N here suggesting it. She would have felt bad if we hadn't been able to have our conversation because of her.”
He raised a brow at you. “That is so thoughtful and kind of you to still think of others. Something really rare these days”
As he walked past you, he briefly touched your shoulder, making you nearly jump out of your skin. “And I’m really sorry about your dad. I hope he pulls through. Let us know if there’s anything we can do to help” he smiled kindly at you..
“Yes, I hope so too. Thank you…” You trailed off, realizing you didn’t know his name.
“Oh I didn’t even introduce myself. I'm Cooper, just call me Cooper.” holding out his hand.
“Well, thank you Cooper. Also, for your offer, maybe I will come back to that." you shook his hand. He had a firm, but not to strong grip. 'so he was married'
"Let’s get going, please.” Somewhere in between Cooper coming close to you, you almost forgot that you had a mission to get to the hospital fast. Daddy dearest was waiting.
He nodded and as he passed you, walking ahead, you suddenly realized just how big that man was. You hadn't even noticed it before. However, standing right next to him you realized it. He was at least 6′2″, not overly muscular, but also not skinny either. Lady Raven seemed tiny next to him, and you weren’t tall yourself—maybe around 5′5″ on a good day.
Still, something about his vibe felt off. He seemed caring, yet on the other hand, almost relieved—or amused?
Riley and you walked a bit behind the two to the cat, nobody had to go through any controls. Riley was such a sweet girl, asking you questions or talking about the concert to ‘take your mind off of your situation’. She was so nice. You kind of wish that you had a little sister like her, but no, you only had a half brother. The only reason he ever contacted you was for money from our grandparents' inheritance.
It was only when you reached the end of the corridor, you noticed Cooper looking over his shoulder. One corner of his mouth pulled upwards and his expression changed. Something sinister in his eyes for a split second. So fast that you were doubting yourself again.
Near the limousine, you felt your phone vibrating, probably Eric wanting to ask where you were. You had no time for that now. Shaking your head, you declined the call and started to write to him, saying that an emergency had come up and you would be back later. You didn’t notice that you arrived at the car until someone cleared their throat in front of you.
Fuck, you almost ran directly into Cooper. Lady Raven and Riley had already gone inside. He looked at me expectantly, a small smile at his lips. You quickly locked your phone and held it up. “Sorry, my… Sister. She gave me the latest updates on our dad.." you explained, the lies just kept rolling off your tongue, and you just hoped they sounded believable. With that you went straight to the car, without waiting for a response.
Maybe you should have started an acting career…
You quickly sat down in the car, with Cooper following shortly after you. Keeping your phone in your hand to secretly keep twisting your ring behind it.
This guy was making you so nervous, not only him but also the lies. You even thought you heard a small deep chuckle from behind you, maybe it was just your nerves? The car started moving. You wondered what they talked about… What did he want to talk about to her?
Lady Raven's voice brought you out of your thoughts. “Y/N, where should I let you out? You remember where you parked your car? Or should we drive directly to the hospital?”
Car yeah… you almost laughed. You knew exactly where your car was, a few miles away at the mechanic, because your lights weren’t working. Why hadn’t you thought of that.
“Eh no, no! Just let me know where my car is. It’s a few blocks away. At this free parking space. There’s my car; let me look up the street real quick…” That wasn't a complete lie. Normally, you would park your car there, because it was just cheaper than parking near or in the stadium. Now just your bike was parked there, well, if nobody had stolen it.
You started to unlock your phone to look up the address. A large hand grabbed your hand with your phone to stop you. Before you could even protest or say something, Cooper started talking in his chipper, happy voice.
“Really? What a coincidence! I think that should be the same parking lot where Riley and I parked my car earlier. I do know the address, it’s just around the corner.  You don't have to look it up.” Lady Raven pressed a button and Cooper told the chauffeur where to go. The address did sound somewhat familiar. You pulled your phone and hand out of his grip. There wasn't much resistance and he put his hands back into his lap.
You looked back at Riley and Lady Raven, they were deeply engaged in a conversation with each other. Noticing nothing around the. The phone in your hand started ringing again, and you quickly looked at the screen. This time, it was your boss; should you just accept the call? You did not get much time to think about it.
“Have you heard anything yet?”, came Riley’s question towards you.
You started twisting your ring again.
“Ah yes, yes… My brother texted me..” your breath caught in your throat. Realizing you messed up. ‘Didn’t you just say to Cooper that it was your sister? Maybe he didn't notice. Good thing you hadn’t pursued your acting career…‘
“...and the doctor said it doesn’t look critical. Our dad seems stable at the moment… but he needs to be operated on quickly.. I'm sure I will get more information as soon as…”
All of a sudden the whole car jolted to a stop, followed by wild car honking. You tried to find your footing, unintentionally gripping onto Cooper's thigh. Right before you could fall off your seat a hand pressed against your shoulder and pushed you back into the seat. You dug your nails even more into his thigh. Riley's bags tipped forward and many of the contents scattered a little on the floor. “Sorry, Lady Raven. The car in front of us braked abruptly." The driver apologized.
“Everyone alright?” Cooper asked, concern dripping in his voice.
“All good” said Riley and Lady Raven nodded.
“Yes, I think so..” you  breathed. He came closer pushing a loose strand behind your ear. A blush crept on your face. After another second, you noticed your hand was still on his thigh, and you blushed even more.
“Oh I’m sorry!” You exclaimed in a panic. He smiled kindly.
“No problem. I’m glad nobody got hurt.” Then he got up from his seat to help Riley pick her things back up and put them back into the bags.
Your phone began to ring again. ‘It’s now or never; it would only get worse.’
With a sigh, you picked up the phone and immediately held the phone as far away as possible from your ear. A loud voice screaming through the speaker. Seemed like your boss just started screaming at you at the top of his lungs.
You mouthed a quick ‘Sorry’ to the others in front of you. He kept on screaming, ranting about how you were not at work and how he always knew you were a lazy piece of shit. He should have fired me months ago… The list goes on.
As Cooper sat back down. You tried to move your body back in the direction of your phone. Seeing as you didn't want to be too close to Cooper. He didn't seem to mind and put a calming hand on your knee this time. Your mind seemed to go fuzzy when you got near him.
Overall this was not your day, your nerves were all over the place. Your feelings felt like they were on a rollercoaster. You still weren't sure if your gut feeling was right… but you also didn't want to find out. All the lies you told today and now your boss is screaming at you? It was just too much. Clenching your fist and putting the phone near your ear again.
“I quit.” were the only words you said, dry of any emotion.
“What did you say?” came the angry reply.
“I quit” Hot tears were forming in your eyes, Cooper gently started to caress your knee. “i’m so fucking done. You don't know what I am going through right now! Someone could die, and you don't even let me explain myself. So go to hell, and I fucking quit.” Enraged, you ended the call and immediately blocked his number.
You put your head in your hands and sigh.
“I'm sorry… Sorry, you had to hear that. Everything goes wrong…” And with that, a sob escapes you.
‘Nobody can see my face, right? So maybe act even more sad? ‘
This whole day was a curse, why were you even here? Because you felt bad vibes from the dilf next to you? You just wanted to laugh over the whole situation.
‘You were fucking stupid and now jobless. Great work. Just because you wanted to play the hero, because of a stupid gut feeling. He was a normal dad. Not the Butcher. ‘
“Don't think like that. You said it yourself; your dad is stable, so that's a good thing. Maybe I can help you get a new job!” Lady Raven is really trying to cheer you up.
Someone rubbed your back gently, and there was only one person who could do that. You tried your hardest to ignore his comforting touch.
“Hay Y/N, I know you just met us, and you don't know me. But I bet a girl like you will easily find a new job. You seem like a good person. If you tell me in which field you work, I'm sure I could help. See if someone I know is hiring. How does that sound?” Cooper really tried to comfort you. He was so sympathetic and strangely charming.
A small laugh escapes you. "Yes, I probably will..” You wipe away your angry tears’.
“I mean… I already sent out job applications. I wanted to leave anyway, maybe I will get a job here in Philly or maybe where my mom lives. She lives more in the suburbs, like an hour away I think…” you paused.
‘Why did you suddenly decide to tell him so much about yourself? Didn't you want to keep a low profile and not give too much real information?‘
This guy certainly knew how to make people talk. About everything, even things they may not want to share and then do without even realizing it. ‘Fuck’
“See! Now you're even smiling again. You just need to see the positive things.” With that, he squeezed your shoulder lightly and withdrew his hand from your back. Making you almost miss the comfort and warmth they had brought you.
Stop crushing on the hot dad next to you! You tried to remind yourself and also remember all the things you thought were off with him.
“We're here,” the chauffeur announced. Great, finally. This car ride felt like an eternity.
Cooper and Riley got out of the car first, and they said their goodbyes. Riley, of course, needed one last hug, and Cooper simply thanked her again for what she did for Riley. Before you got out of the car, Lady Raven pulled you in for a hug.
“Please keep me updated on how things are at the hospital and if you need something. Just text me.” She pulled out her phone and pulled up Instagram.
“Just search for your username, and I'll add you. That way, we can keep in touch.”
You nodded and put in your name, and handed the phone back to her.
“Thank you.. so much. Again. I'm so sorry for any inconvenience I caused. I won't forget this. Thank you! Next time, I’ll be in the front row singing your songs.”
She laughed at that and nodded. While stepping outside the car, you crossed both fingers that the other two were gone.
Unfortunately, Cooper and his daughter waited for you. You had thought that by staying longer in the car, they would be gone already. No lucky day for you
You scanned the parking lot, and of course, your bike was stolen. The universe was just being cruel now.
“So let us walk you to your car!” Cooper was way too happy, waving the limousine of Lady Raven goodbye. “Sure..” You started walking towards the cars.
You were clueless on how to get out of this situation. Abruptly stopping, you looked around.
“I don't see my car..” you say while looking around again. You sigh extra loudly.
“Fuck me..”
“Your car got towed?” Cooper
“Maybe” a dry laugh escapes you.
“Or maybe with everything going on and all the things that were going on at the concert, I… just forgot where I parked my car.” You ran your fingers through your hair.
"Well, if you tell me which hospital you need to go to, I'm certain Riley and I can make a little detour on our way home. Right Riley?” Riley nodded.
“Of course, I’d be happy if we could help you out” she said, hopeful.
Right… the hospital. You should get better at remembering your lies. You were torn between keeping your lie up or simply turning around and walking away.
You didn’t know what to do. Cooper seemed a bit strange at times, but he could not be the Butcher, right? Still while looking at him you felt like something didn't add up. Sometimes… you didn’t know how to describe it… He felt too perfect, too caring or too sweet. Maybe that was just who he was? You were lost in thought.. The look in his eyes was making you feel a bit uneasy.
All of a sudden, Cooper's hand was behind your back, and he slowly pushed you forward. “If you can't decide, I will decide for you. Going to the hospital should be the most important thing. So we'll drive you and then you can worry about your car later. Okay?”
You nodded your head at his idea, simply because you didn't trust your words at the moment. His hand wandered up to your shoulder, where he kept a firm grip and pushed you in the direction of his car.
Riley was already running in front of you. You winced under his touch, did he know his own strength? You wondered. He certainly didn't look that strong. He opened the car a few meters away so Riley could already put her bags in the trunk.
A black van
You suddenly remembered what Eric told you about the profiler, she suspected the Butcher to drive a car like this?
Your body tensed up, and you felt like the pressure on your shoulder increased, which was almost painful. Surely that was going to bruise . Cooper opened the back door for you like you were a child being escorted home. You tried to muster your best friendly face before you sat down inside.
“Thank you... Have you had this car for a long time?” You asked before you could stop yourself. Cooper raised an eyebrow, clearly pondering the question before answering.
“Yes, I have had it for quite a few years now. Why are you asking?” Should you just tell him?
It was just the trip to the hospital.. then you would never have to see them again. You could not fuck up even more than you already had, and until now, it was just an uneasy gut feeling. Also, you were trying to move back to your mom, who was at least an hour away.
“No real reason.. Just that profiler from the concert. She talked so much, about everything and also about cars... especially mentioning a car like this, which could potentially be the car of a-… killer.”
He only stared at you.
‘Did you say something wrong? Maybe you’re the weird one now.’ Nervously rubbing your neck, you tried to lighten the mood with a laugh.
Thankfully, Riley was just on her way to the passenger seat. She didn't hear her, no need to scare her. You didn’t think she knew about what was going on behind the scenes of the concert.
“So maybe you should switch it up? But maybe she was just talking nonsense..” you tried to diffuse the situation, massaging your sore shoulder.
Cooper smiled and laughed softly. "Well, thanks for the tip. I thought about getting a new car. Maybe I should finally get one. More family friendly, any ‘smart’ suggestions perhaps?” -
“Hmm..maybe just something smaller, maybe in white, silver, or another color? Definitiv not black..” you smile.
“Great. I will keep that in mind when I buy a new car.” he smiled back at you and closed the door, and got in the driver's seat. He seemed like he wanted to ask more questions, tapping his finger on the steering wheel.
Quickly, you got your phone out and searched for a hospital near you. You found one which was 15 minutes away. When Cooper started the car you leaned forward, so much that your head nearly reached his shoulder and you could smell his aftershave. ‘He even smelled good.’ You showed him your phone.
“Here, that's the hospital where I need to go.” He slightly turned around to get a better look at the screen.
“Can I?” He gestured to the phone. “Just to get a better look.”
You gulped, a nervous feeling growing in your stomach. “Yeah sure..”
He didn’t even wait for your reply and grabbed the phone.
“You got some kind of privacy screen on here?” he asked with a raised brow.
Oh yeah, how could you forget, and here you thought he wanted to take your phone from you. When he couldn’t even see the screen.
“Yeah! Sorry, I totally forgot. My boss had cameras everywhere in the building, I got a bit paranoid, so I bought one of those..” you laughed.
“He doesn’t sound very nice. Maybe it’s a good thing you don’t have to work there anymore!” replied Riley.
“Yeah.. maybe”
“You could just work at my school, our teacher for IT sucks..”
Cooper glanced at her disapprovingly, slowly shaking his head.  “Riley…”-
"Sorry, dad, it's the truth. He lives in the past. No one uses Windows XP anymore." Riley grumbled.
Cooper started the car, and Lady Raven's music was playing loudly over the speakers before he turned the volume down. After a few minutes of driving and Riley vibing to the music, Cooper cleared his throat.
"Here, you can have your phone back. Oh and I took the liberty of saving my number on your phone. That way, if you ever need anything or some help finding your car later, you can just give me a quick call.”
What the fuck. He did what now?
He smiled at you through the rearview mirror, his eyes watching you closely. Carefully, you grabbed your phone out of his hands.
“That's so… thoughtful. Thank you” You tried to put a smile on your face.
"So, Riley, how did you like the concert?” You tried changing the topic. Oh boy, that worked. Riley started rambling about everything, including how cool it was to be on stage with Lady Raven. Unconsciously, you found yourself smiling a real smile, she was just so cute. Your eyes flickered to the rearview mirror every so often, and as soon as you met Cooper's eyes, you looked back at Riley. Let’s not get lost because of his good looks. You still felt uneasy.
You tried telling yourself in your head. Somehow, you felt like a prey being watched by his predator. Once in a while you felt like his expression would flicker for a split second, his eyes becoming way darker, but it was gone so soon. You weren’t even sure if you saw it correctly or if it was your imagination. Even though the feeling was only there for a split second, He looked so friendly, encouraging Riley to talk more.
Finally, you could make out the hospital in the distance. About time, you thought.
“Hey Y/N?” Riley asked.
“Yes?”-
“Maybe when your dad is better again, you can visit us? I feel so bad for you. Today should have been a great day. _You seem really cool… I mean, your dad and family can come too..Right dad?” Cooper smiled and nodded.
“Great, Like a family dinner, my mom is a great cook.” So he was married. “I just would like to do something nice for you.” Oh god, the world didn’t deserve her kindness.
“Of course, you don't have to feel compelled to do so. Think about it, you don’t have to decide now..” Cooper interjected.
“The two of you are too kind. I can't,” more like won't, “give you an answer right now, but I promise to think about it. Okay?” You fake-gushed at the two, your face hurting from keeping the smile on your face.
Both Cooper and Riley seemed satisfied with the answer. You felt like you were in the wrong movie, was there a hidden camera somewhere? You arrived within the next minute. Cooper parked his car near the emergency exit. One moment away from freedom, away from this lie.
“I can’t really thank you enough. Thanks for driving me here. I hope you had a great day. Have a safe drive home.” You tried opening the door, but it wouldn’t budge. “Oh, child safety must be on. I’m sorry, I forgot.” apologized to Copper and exited the van to open your door. You didn’t believe him, it just matched too well.
“I hope you get good news inside. Dad acted really strange today, but I’m happy everything is normal again.” she smiled, before you could answer, and your door opened.
Daddy is acting strange today. You don’t say…
“Well, bye, Riley.” You waved at her and got out and barely got your hand out of the doof before Cooper shut it close.
“I’m so glad we could help you.” he said with that charming voice of his. He started to walk with you towards the building. “With all the extra police force, because of the Butcher, it could have taken you at least an hour to get here.”
“That's true. Well maybe next time he shouldn't let his recipes laying around in his hideouts. What does he even want at a pop concert?” you snorted.
“Did he now?” Cooper asked intrigued.
“At least that's what I overheard from a few higher up people today.”, no way you were saying that it was Lady Raven who told you.
“Seems like he needs to be cleaner and more careful.”
“If not, they might just catch him next time,” you joked.
“I don't think that will happen, sweetheart.” His mouth twitched in amusement.
That was a weird response. He must have seen the frown on your face, as he quickly started to explain himself.
“I mean if they didn't catch him today, while they knew he was going to be there. I think the chances of the police finding him again are relatively close to zero.” His reply sounded reasonable.
“Well yes, but he fucked up once. Maybe he is getting sloppy with time. Nobody knows.”
His jaw clenched. “You think so? Maybe you're misinterpreting the situation. I would imagine someone like him to be very calculated.  Otherwise the police would have found him already, if he was being sloppy.”
“True…” You shrugged your shoulders. Maybe you were wrong, but why did he sound somewhat angry at your statement?
He was honestly acting strange now.
“Well I think this is where I leave you.” Cooper announced after a few seconds of silence. His behavior over the last meters made you feel unsettled again. He seemed strange. ‘Why was he like that?’
“Okay…”, should you with your gut feeling, you wondered? Fuck it, it was just a guess, a wild guess. You always knew your big mouth would get you into trouble someday. Maybe he was just a normal dad and you were overthinking the situation. If that was the case, he wouldn’t think anything of it.
“By the way B-...Cooper” you began, and Cooper turned around in a second, looking at you expectantly, one of his brows raised. His face was unreadable. “You're welcome.. You know that? For getting to drive with Lady Raven"—for  getting out of there without the security controls - was what you wanted to say. Even if he were the Butcher his facial expressions and body language didn't betray him. He smiled and stepped back toward you. Every bone in your body wanted to run. ‘Fuck, did this creep you out.’ You felt like you were pushing your luck today
“Yes.. of course. I am very grateful for that…” Before he could say anymore, Riley pulled down the window.
“Dad! Let's go home! Y/N needs to go to the hospital! And I want to tell mom all about the concert!”
“She's right. I don't want to keep you from your father any longer. I bet your sister is waiting for you. Better go inside.” ‘He knew, he knew you lied when you fucked up with the sister and brother thing.’ Panic started to set in, you swallowed hard, your throat dry.
He came even closer and engulfed you in a tight hug. You stood there, frozen in place. He leaned his head down to your ear, his hands holding you even tighter. One of them slowly wandered to your lower back while he talked.
“Thank you, sweetheart. You sure made it easier. I’m sure Spencer will be soo grateful. I’ll let you know…” a dark chuckle escaped him.
“It's a small world. I'm sure we will see each other again.” His deep voice whispered in your ear, which sent shivers down your spine. You felt trapped. Like a tiny mouse next to him, holding your breath unintentionally. He patted you on the back. Smiling, he stepped away.
‘Breathe– mask your emotions. Get a grip.’ Many different thoughts running through your head.
Tilting your head to your side you looked at him. Moreover you were confused. Even a tiny bit scared.
‘Please don’t let him notice. Who was Spencer? Did you know Spencer?’
Furrowing your brows you asked “Spencer?” your voice slightly quivering.
He grinned even more— it looked unnerving. It was replaced by a much friendlier smile after another second. “Don’t worry about it.”
‘Were you imagining things? Now you knew why people said “don't play with fire.” Why had you said anything at all...’
His voice became louder, having that charming undertone again “and make sure to call sweetheart. Riley would be very happy if you came over.” Winking at you he turned around and walked back to his car.
You felt like your chest was about to explode.
“Yes! Once your dad's out of the hospital and things settle down, Make sure to call my dad. Then we can have a fun dinner.” giggling Riley's voice went even higher. She was practically shifting in her seat, unable to sit still.
‘Fun dinner? Yeah.. sureeee kid..’
You mustered your best smile and gave her a thumbs up.
“I will kiddo. See you around.” trying to steady your voice. You needed to get away fast. turned around and walked towards the hospital, near the end you were almost running.
Once inside, you had the feeling that it was getting harder and harder to breathe. As if you weren't getting enough air. Your breathing became more and more rapid. Your vision was blurred.
‘Was this hyperventilation? What was going on? Was he really the Butcher? Were you right? Would you die next? Maybe he would keep you alive because you unintentionally helped him?’
Anxiety welled up inside you. You barely noticed the loud voices around you.
‘Did you hear someone calling for help?’
You had the feeling that the world was spinning around you. ‘Were you still walking?’ It felt like your legs were made out of jelly.
Someone was talking to you, holding you by the shoulders. Shaking you. Waving something in front of your face. However, you couldn’t make out the words. You couldn't recognise the face in front of you. Everything sounded dull, like it was far far away. The world became increasingly blurred before your eyes, spinning more and more–
until you finally gave in and everything went dark.
i'm still stuck on the purgatories so here's a list of purgatory 2 moments simply off the top of my head that deserve to be remembered:
aimsey ducking all of axolotl team alone in a cave with literally half a heart
goose gang fucking descending on the raccoon base and absolutely wrecking shop
ethan crankgameplays clutching up for team panda during the capture the flag game by being the only one hanging out in the center and periodically checking the chests, earning them a shitton of flags and clutching multiple rounds
crow team's egg taking 0 damage
pac doxxing goose gang's egg in the last second
shelby shubble as the last member of her team online writing a letter to aimsey and sharing the world's most devastating ten minutes before her team was eliminated with one of the eye creatures (coco? i forgot lol)
badboyhalo absolutely fucking DEMOLISHING the battleship event on like 2 hours of sleep and a dream
wuant(?) stealing a tv from the battleship event and then playing portuguese ice age on it for the crows lmfao
tubbo djing for his team while waiting for the time for a goose gambit
theguill CRASHING THROUGH THE FUCKING CEILING of the raccoon team's hidey hole like the fucking kool aid man in a last effort to save his team and 4v1 or 5v1 ing team raccoon; he lost but that was such an epic fucking moment
theguill and etoiles pvping and each hyping the other's skills the entire time
seapeekay escaping cellbit and baghera and then stealing their boats and rocketing past to tease them about it; that shit was iconic
kenny going mad with power collecting sand on literally day 1
the english speaking squirrels taking actual physical notes on portuguese phrases (i think)
