She’s going to do it. She, Lily Matilda Evans, is going to crash a date.

After spending hours last night reviewing muggle medical books to confirm it isn’t just a case of a misdiagnosed heart murmur, acceptance finally hit her around three in the morning. And now, there's just no going back.

She, Lily Matilda Evans, has feelings for James Potter…whose middle name is Fleamont – a red flag, for certain.

But despite the red flags – that they can’t go two minutes without arguing, that she wants to pull her hair out when she’s with him, that she once wrote a poem about her love for the giant squid just to prove to him how much she doesn’t think about him (to name a few) – and despite the fact that they’ll have to withstand the awkward torture of working together the rest of the year if this goes wrong, Lily has to do this. She already can’t stand the fact that James is getting dressed for a date with another girl right now. She won’t survive it if she has to watch him be someone’s actual boyfriend. 

So might as well cause a scene sooner rather than later, right?

Lily waits until the two are seated inside the Three Broomsticks, rolling her eyes at James’s choice of venue. Leaning against the wall as casually as possible, she sneaks glances over her shoulder and through the front window of the pub. They’ve found a table toward the front of the room; James leaves Tamara to go get them drinks; he’s ordering from Rosmerta and Lily can see his smirk from here; Tamara, she thinks, is staring at his arse, and while the girl isn’t wrong for this, Lily feels the urge to shove a pie in her face.

“Evans, Evans…” Lily's blood turns cold as someone tuts. “Not spying, are we?”

Hands shoved in the pockets of his leather jacket, Sirius saunters over to her from across the way, Remus and Peter beside him. All three boys wear varying expressions of curiosity.

“Told you she’d get jealous – did I not say she’d get jealous?” Sirius turns to confirm this with his friends, a finger pointed lazily at Lily. She wants to bite it off, he’s so annoying.

“I’m not jealous,” Lily argues, gaze flicking into the pub again even as she crosses her arms in defiance. James has just returned to the table with drinks, and places Tamara’s before her with a smile. Lily’s stomach churns.

Sirius laughs. “Right, so there’s another reason you’re stalking our boy while he’s on his first date in nearly two years?”

“It’s not been two years, he went out with Holly Hartley at the beginning of last year.” 

She only realizes she’s stepped into the trap when Sirius smirks triumphantly. 

“So, what’s the plan, Evans?” he asks, tilting his head. She doesn’t understand what he means, and her face must say as much, because he says, “C’mon, it’s you, know you didn’t come down here to spy on them without a plan.”

Cheeks burning, Lily squeezes her arms tighter around her chest. “I was going to…” She looks between the three boys, all of whom seem keen to hear her answer, and while this confuses her, it also spurs her on. “Well, I was going to interrupt them. You know–” She brings a hand to the necklace around her neck and tugs at it. “I was going to crash it.”

She jumps when Sirius lets out a booming, “Ha!” then glances into the pub window to make sure he wasn’t heard. Her cheeks as red as her hair now, Lily opens her mouth to defend herself, but Sirius cuts her off. 

“Well damn, Evans, if you aren’t the picture of ‘daring, nerve and chivalry’.” 

Lily glares at him, and though she wants to make a retort, only half her brain is paying attention. The other half is busy glancing repeatedly into the pub, where she can see James laughing around the lip of his butterbeer bottle. 

Her mind comes back into full focus when she hears the words, “Can we join you?”

james doesn't hear you the first time you speak, your arms wrapped so tightly around his waist and your face buried in his hoodie covered chest. the cacophony of music and customer chatter doesn’t help his case.

"what was that?" he asks, gently peeling you away from him.

"need you," you whine lowly, clenching your thighs together when you see the usual weekend scruff on his cheeks and neck.

he glances back to where lily is paying for your drinks and sighs. he scratches your scalp, "we can't, baby. m'sorry."

there's an adorable pout on your lips that makes james want to kiss it away. his thumb moves on it's own and brushes the smooth surface. his eyes darken when you not so innocently pull it into your mouth, the wet muscle of your tongue making him picture many different variations of this specific scenario.

"please," you mumble, your puppy eyes wide as ever. and that's when he sees it, the glaze over them, the slightly empty look in them.

he makes a quick signal to lily to let her know that he's taking you to a table, then walks you to the most secluded booth he can find with a warm hand on the small of your back.

he sits down on the bench that looks towards the wall and pulls you next to him. you lean against him and rest your head on his shoulder, trying to be sneaky as you go to unbuckle his belt. he's quick to stop you. "no, baby. not tonight."

lily sets your drinks on the table and you jump. she slides to james his pint and your fruity drink to you, leaving her martini on the outer side of the table. "what's going on with her?" she asks james as she sits down next to you.

you leave james side and curl against her. "mommy," you whimper.

"she's slipped," james says. he takes a quick sip of his beer and wipes his mouth with his wrist.

lily turns to you and coos when you try to get closer to her, your hand going under her tank top and traveling upwards. she holds your wrist and pulls it down to where the table covers everything from prying eyes.

"what's wrong, sweet girl?"

"need you, mommy. need daddy, too."

"oh you're feeling needy. is that it? poor baby." her hand goes to your thighs and pushes them slightly apart. "come help me out, james."

not having to be told twice, james' hand goes to your right thigh. he sneaks up and feels your breathing get heavier and heavier, but lily gets to your soaked panties before he can. "oh darling," she says, swiping her finger over the wet spot on your underwear. "you're dripping."

"i'm sorry," you say shamefully, hiding your face in her neck.

"don't be," james' honey-like voice says. "poor angel, you just need us this bad."

lily's free hand goes to your head and she starts playing with a couple strands. "whose fingers d'you want inside you, hm?" she smirks amusedly when she feels the heat coming from your cheeks. she gets closer to your ear and whispers, "and who do you want to play with your pretty clit?"

2023 in fanfic!!

i wrote my first full fanfic in 2023 after coming back to fandom after a long hiatus. in all i've written over 240,000 words which is just nuts. it made me some incredible friends and incredible mutuals who i hope to turn into friends. i started with the loves of my life (wolfstar!!) and discovered some new loves (jegulus has the key to my heart) and came up with a million future fic ideas

goals for 2024 include: write something that isn't a muggle au, convince everyone to ship moonchaser (jk... or am i), write more smutty one shots, read more!!! (gimme your best recs)

4 - Maybe I Waited Too Long - a doctors!marauders AU with Wolfstar and Jily. I had a laugh writing this one.

5 - This Is The Way The World Ends - it’s heartbreaking and a canon divergent Wolfstar AU about Remus getting bad news…

I always usually do, it’s one of the main reasons I love writing fics!! Without the interaction I wouldn’t bother posting istg!! People can be so kind and generous 🥺❤️

Probably number 5 because it has MCD and apparently made people cry? But equally, I did write 3 short fics about 31st October 1981 from Jily, Sirius and Remus’ POV and that was pretty heartbreaking/ ugly crying stuff.

Most of my fics have happy endings it’s probably a toss-up between We Can Be Heroes and Have Yourself a Merry Little Wolfenoot

Nope! All mine are either T rated or fade to black

I’ve only ever written one, a LOTR/Marauders crossover, and I actually had great fun trying to write it in LOTR style? Wolfstar are Éowyn and Faramir. It’s called Ithilin and Silmë (only wrote it because @therealrjlupin wanted it 💙)

Again, v hard to be objective aside from vague “it’s not great” stuff? I think it has improved with writing practice and with time.

I’ve done it in We Can Be Heroes - James speaks fluent Italian and Sirius speaks fluent French. As I can speak the languages it was ok, but I had to check with @constancezin to be sure the written French was ok!

A Jily Lives AU Micro || 388 Words Happy birthday James Potter! 🎉

“Hey Lil? Why did I just receive a letter from Puddlemere United saying they can’t wait to see me at tryouts?”

She hears his voice waft into the kitchen where she sits at the table with Harry, making faces at the young boy in an attempt to persuade him into eating his lunch. “Because I replied to the first letter they sent that you crumbled up and threw in the bin.”

He appears in the doorway, eyes wide as he clears his throat. "And...why would you do that?"

“Because it's always been your dream to play professional Quidditch?”

“Lily, that was before we went through a whole bloody war…I’m not—I'm not the same bloke that graduated Hogwarts.”

“I'm aware,” she says with a hint of laughter, her attention still on Harry as she tries to get him to eat some peas. "Your temper's evened out quite nicely."

“Lily, I'm serious—I’m not. I’m out of flying shape...I have that blasted injury from the Order that didn't heal right. And even if I was Quidditch-ready, there's you and Harry to think about.” His hand has plunged in his hair, tugging in exasperation. "I threw away that letter for a reason. You had no right—"

"No right? Says the man who wrote Petunia on my behalf once things settled down?" she cuts him off, glancing over her shoulder and raising an eyebrow.

"Point taken."

"James"—she rises from her seat and walks around the table to him, placing a gentle hand on his chest—"I know you're scared. But you owe it to yourself to try, alright? You know you'll always kick yourself if you don't."

"But what about—"

She shushes him with a gentle tone, touching her fingers to his lips before dropping them and rising on her toes to give him an encouraging peck.

"We'll figure it out, James, one step at a time. But first you have to try, yeah?"

He looks down at her, and she can see the warmth and trepidation in his gaze, feel the heart that pounds beneath her hand that's still on his chest.

James nods, clearing his throat before he ducks his head down to place another kiss on the tip of her nose, which causes Harry to squeal in delight from his highchair. He pulls back and smiles appreciatively at his wife. "Yeah."

2. What’s your total Ao3 word count? 1,430,364

3. What fandoms do you write for? Harry Potter, the Marauders Era, exclusively Jily as far as pairings go. I used to write Gilmore Girls fanfiction when I was a very young teenager (between 12-15).

4. What are your top five fics by kudos? A Game of Thrones, Call It What You Want, It Only Takes A Taste, Lily in the Sky with Diamonds, Knocked Up By Me Ex.

5. Do you respond to comments? I try to as much as I can, but sometimes real life gets in the way or I just want to get the new chapter up and I want to write more than I want to reply to comments. Do know that I read every single one of them and that I love them and cherish them for eternity!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? The angstiest ending? Pfft... I don't like angsty endings. I have angsty starts and middles, but I think endings should never be angsty. That's what canon is for in case of Jily.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Hmm... I think most of them have a happy ending (once they are complete). I like the way that Call It What You Want ended after all the drama.

8. Do you get hate on fics? Not really. I get the odd comment, but that's it.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I do. More so recently. I definitely do not feel comfortable writing it just yet. I try to make it good, but I usually cringe when I reread what I have written and just hope that you think it's sexy. I get in my head about it.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Not crossovers so much, but I definitely have works inspired by other works, such as Lily in the Sky with Diamonds, Happy Place, 10 Things I Hate About You, etc.

19. First fandom you wrote for? Gilmore Girls, funnily enough, seeing as I was such a Harry Potter fan as a child and teenager first. But I very quickly switched to Jily and never left.

I'm blown away.

By your talent and your inasenly great imagination, and your way to connect all this little words, situation from each chapter into something so wholesome, so canon - yet still all of this feels unic.

"...be brave, be strong..." JESUS, I CRIED.

I admit - I think this chapter is my favourite so far, but don't get me wrong - actually they all are. But this one is just... Beautiful. Simple word, but I could use all of positive adjectives to describe this chapter and yet, it still would not be enough. There are no words. They are feelings you make us feel, and tears you make us shed, and it is all alright, because in the end you grab our hearts and our souls - because you put your heart and your soul into this - and it feels alright.

Just like this whole story, I can't imagine reading any other fanfic and think "this is so canon", because you, with every chapter, make me believe that every situation you wrote actually happened. It feels like I am reading a story, a perfect story of James and Lily (and all of the rest, of course) that I once created in my mind when thinking of them - of course, like billion times better story - like you somehow have magical power to get everyone's image of Marauders times and Jily story, put it together, add your talent, heart and soul - and just put it into writing (recepy for writing a perfect story, I guess) - and boom, here we are with this masterpiece.

I really admire your work, patience, engagement and, above all, your talent. There is no denying that, because I never cry, even when I'm reading something really, really sad. When watching yes, when reading never happened - well, until this chapter. I can't phantom how you can write something so real, about something and someone fake. I mean, when you think about it, it is just another imaginary story, about characters from also imaginary book - BUT then you start reading The Last Enemy and all you can do is stop thinking and feel - because maybe it is about imaginary characters, but damn, it is REAL. In our heads and hearts, and thank you for making this for us. I have never read something touching and astonishlingly beautfiul.

I am amazed by this chapter - I love how you wrote about grief, love and sadness - I adore those interactions between Sirius and Lily.

It is amazing how one can indetify with every character, maybe not on every level, but still - they feel real.

And even I was not planning to write this, which took me whole twenty minutes, I know how nice it is to get a compliment about work you have done.

So please - feel appreciated, loved and know this is simply the best journey I could ever, ever imagine for you to take me on.

Newlyweds

Okay so I just wrote this and minimally edited this. Pure fluff, nothing but. Jily, because I love them way too much. WC: 454 Is this a microfic? Am I doing it right? 

Lily’s eyelids flutter open briefly, catching a glimpse of the sun streaming through the window. She smiles unconsciously, and pulls the comforter over her shoulder as she turns  onto her right side. The brightness of the morning pries her eyes open once again, and this time they stay that way, feasting on the sight that was in front of her. James is lying face down on the pillow, hair disheveled to such an extent that Lily knows she’s partially to blame. She smiles again as she catches a glimpse of a wet spot of drool under his mouth. 

It was odd, Lily had decided long ago, that such emphasis was put on the wedding night in this day and age. Sex had been important to her, had been important to James as well, but they were well familiar with it by the time they stumbled into their bed last night, drunk off champagne and each other. Her first time had been a big deal to her, and after she thought it was impossible for anyone to love someone as much as she had loved James. Now, Lily thinks that how she loved James in February 1978 had expanded, feeding her soul and growing as she learned more about him. 

She fell in love with a student. Not a boy, but not yet fully a man - though you couldn’t tell him that. The James she fell in love with was noble and kind and caring and thoughtful - she hadn’t thought there was any person that could be more perfect for her. Now, Lily loves a soldier who is still all of those things but more fully developed - James is a man now and Lily is a woman. She lost her girlhood - her innocence - loving James and losing that naivety only made her love him more. 

Lily loved the same man 2 days ago that she loves this morning, even though he drools in his sleep. Yet somehow it feels different.  Her train of thought is cut off by the fluttering of eyelids across from her and she watches as his eyes open and crinkle at the sides as James sees her watching him. 

“Hi,” He says, voice hoarse in a familiar way. 

“Good morning,” Lily responds, then giggling, “husband.”

James grins wide and snorts. Lily laughs again at him. They look like idiots, smiling at each other in the way that hurts their faces. And they continue to do that as James responds. “Good morning, wife.”

They lie there for a moment - two lovestruck dolts smiling at each other in bed. Lily thinks that despite the war going on, there is no version of herself that could be happier than she is right now. Married.

idk who first wrote the fic that had james incessantly asking lily out and not taking no for an answer but i hate them and i hate that it’s almost become canon, that’s how prominent it is in JL fics. if james was constantly asking lily out, why would snape tell lily he fancied her like it was a big secret and he was revealing something huge? lily clearly didn’t know which means james wasn’t constantly harassing her. james seemed to keep his crush quiet with the way he erased the doodles with her initials on it and the way sirius told him she thought he was conceited, like they’d never really talked about it before.

Ooh okay yeah. I've made posts about this before. There is only canon evidence of James asking her out once yadda yadda. Completely agree with your take on it re: Snape's comments to Lily. I love Sirius giving him shit for it, tbh. That exchange at the end of SWM is perfection.

As for the fandom, I won't say I'm guiltless in writing James that way in the past (though it was years ago and there is a fine line between asking her out several times and "badgering her constantly"). But on the whole, I feel like the James "badgering Lily/school playboy/only in it for the chase" fandom interpretations have really died out in recent years(??) at least in Jily writers. Unless I am missing all of these fics where this is happening.

Now if you're talking about wider fandom (anti-JP) spaces or perhaps even the "new" Marauders fandom that couldn't correctly identify Sirius Black if he stood in front of them wearing a name tag, then yeah I'm not surprised that particular fanon interpretation still runs rampant.

I'm grateful for the pro-Jily space we have that shows James (and even Lily for that matter) in much more realistic, human light than what was the norm 5, 10, 15 years ago.

Okay listen, do I technically have a fic that mentions living happily ever after in the last line? Yes. Am I choosing that fic? No. I'm choosing Happy Holidays, You Filthy Potters, because 1. smut, 2. sassy young Harry, and best of all, 3. sassy good godfather sirius black 😉

I've gotten a couple of comments about Lily in Dead To Me but I've decided it's not my problem if people don't have critical analysis skills 💀

I do! I write smut for a number of different ships and plan on doing others! Uhhh, what kind? the fact that I don't really know what that means probably means it's pretty vanilla 😆 there's a lot of going down on people 🤐

Haha, no, but if I did I'd probably do PJO/HP

I have!! @charmsandtealeaves and I co-wrote a fic for a jilychallenge last year, before we were even friends! It was my first time co-writing a fic, which was very cool and different, but also didn't feel that foreign to me -- I think because I've spent a lot more years doing para RP than I have writing fics. It was fun to kind of riff off another writer in a different way. I would definitely do it again!

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Okay, this is kind of tough because I only recently got into Prongsfoot, and they are the definition of soulmates... But because I ultimately see Sirius as more of an ace/aro character, Jily wins the place of favorite ship in my heart. <3

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Well, I really only have two WIPs posted on AO3: Dead To Me and Just This Once, and I have all of DTM outlined and plan to finish it by fall. Just This Once might be a while, but I also have a plan for it and would like to finish it at some point... But I guess there's a chance I won't finish it -- I do have a lot of other multi-chaps I am going to be starting soon.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Hm. I like to think I'm good at getting into the minds of my characters, really thinking through their motivations and emotions and then expressing those to the reader. I also think I'm fairly good at dialogue. I really like writing banter so I hope others think I'm good at it, haha. And based on what I've been told, my smut isn't half bad 😆

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Oh, definitely writing descriptions of any kind. I never remember to describe the scene and when I do, I think it feels clunky. I'm not great at writing in a more direct way, either; I struggle to express a character's emotions without getting a bit flowery with it. Just generally, I think my writing could be tighter, you know? I'm sure I'll realize other things I need to work on as I write more long fics, too.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Ah, haven't done it yet, so don't have any thoughts to share.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

HP -- Jily on the Neopets forums... never 4get <3

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

If we're talking finished works, I'd have to say Tall Dark and Glasses, which I wrote for the masquerade event for Jilytober last year. To me, that fic has a certain je ne sais quois that is hard to replicate. But unfinished? Dead To Me, hands down, and once it's finished it will be very hard to ever top it. It's imperfect and there are a lot of edits I'd make if I were to go back through and polish it up, but it's the first multi chap fic I've ever written, and beyond just feeling immensely proud of that, the story itself and how I'm writing it is one of the most heartfelt and meaningful things I'll ever write in my life.

Day 6 of Jily microfics!

MASSIVE trigger warning here, if anything at all makes you feel uncomfortable reading about childbirth, or labor or anything of the sort, please just skip this chapter.

I wrote this for me. I saw the word and was inspired - there is just something so utterly tragic about James and Lily's situation here, I needed it to be in words.

I truly hope you enjoy if you do decide to read this one, it means a lot to me.

All she ever wanted was to be a mother, it was a deep desire, something she very rarely spoke aloud. She was heartbreakingly happy when she found out she was pregnant back in december, but guilt gnawed dangerously at her once she realized she had to bring a baby into a war. A war in which she and her husband were standing on the frontlines.

And Voldemort, the monstrous lead of the enemy side targeted this human being that they created. Wanted to kill her baby. 

It was July 30th, any day now Lily could go into labor, it should have been the happiest day of her life - and instead, they were mindlessly watching the telly, the only thing they had to do since going into hiding. James had his feet up on the coffee table, something his mother surely would have scolded him for in the past. But she wasn’t here now. She couldn’t guide him through what came next. 

Lily was laid out across the sofa, her head resting in James’ lap. A pillow tucked between her thighs, another supporting her lower back. She was in turmoil, the cramping in her stomach getting worse. She strained herself mentally, holding her breath lest she make a noise and alert her husband that the worst possible thing that could happen, was actually happening. 

The telly flicked from the comedy show they were watching, to the evening news - but it was all static to her- as it had been days. Lily sucked in a harsh breath through her teeth. Her eyes grew wide in panic as a sharp pain ripped through her. 

“You alright love?” James asked, looking down at her, stroking her hair back from her forehead.  

“Mmm… just a bit uncomfortable.” She whispered, silently screaming inside. 

“Is there anything I can do to help?” James asked, trying to keep the worry from his voice. 

“I’ll be alright,” she spoke softly, her words coming out like a pathetic whimper. 

“Are you sure?” 

“James.” Lily said shortly, closing her eyes and taking in another slow breath through her nose. She whimpered on the exhale, willing tears not to fall from her eyes at the indescribable pain she was in. 

“Right, well I have to go use the loo now, you’ll be okay?” 

She could only nod, and James carefully extracted himself from under her, crouching to give her another kiss. “I love you Lily.” 

“I’m fine.” 

“Lil.” 

She moved her arm under her head, closing her eyes, letting the exhaustion sink in. “I love you too.” 

Once he was safely away from her, Lily allowed herself to succumb to the pain. Breathing out roughly, a sob escaping as she curled into herself. She couldn’t bare to touch her stomach right now. Unbearable fear settling in. 

As the seventh month dies. 

Lily wasn’t having her baby today, or tomorrow. 

She leaned down, pushing the pillow away from between her thighs and crossing her legs. As if that would bloody help. 

Suppressing the urge to scream, she picked up her head, looking to see if James was on his way back. She was in the clear, and she turned her face into the cushion. Groaning roughly as her belly cramped up again, her baby nestling itself right into her pelvis. 

“Lily?” Her husband asked softly, her wonderful doting husband. She couldn’t hide this from him. 

“Lil, c’mon look at me.” He said, and she could hear the panic in his voice. She couldn’t bring herself to look up at him then. 

“Lily are you in labor?” James asked, sounding sick. 

Lily shook her head no. 

His hand was on her back, rubbing it affectionately. “Lil.” He whispered. 

“Please go away, James. Please.” She begged weakly. 

“There… there was some erm… mucus…  on the toilet seat.”

Another sob, a gut wrenching sob that broke both of their hearts. 

“Oh Lily.” He rubbed her lower back, pressing his lips gently against her temple. 

“How long have the contractions been happening?” He asked once her tears ebbed. 

She looked up at him, her cheeks tear - stained, her eyes puffy. “They’re not happening.” She told him, her voice breaking, “he’s… he’s not coming until August.” 

“You can’t put this off Lil.” 

“James… this… this isn’t happening,” she spoke, a fresh round of tears breaking through as her belly clamped up in another contraction. 

James reached for her hand, and held it tentatively, squeezing once the pain became too much.  “You’ve been having contractions sense dinner at least, I could see it in your face.” He said once she relaxed. 

“James please…. I… I can’t do this.” She sobbed, nearly in hysterics. 

“Okay. Alright, listen to me. The second this gets to be too much, I’m calling Marlene and we are going through with the birth plan.” James said, worry for his wife actually having to give birth soon now taking over every nerve in his body. “Look at me Lily,” he said, holding her face in his hands. “This is your first baby, he will take his time. We can just wait this out okay? I’ll distract you. We can try to make it till Sunday.” 

“Okay,” she said, relaxing only slightly, not thrilled with the thought of having to endure this pain for the next day and a half. But it was better than the alternative, her son being born as the seventh month died. “We wait.” 

“The second it gets to be too much, I’m going through with the birth plan.” He told her seriously. 

“We wait. He’s not coming out anytime soon.” She said, a furious look in her eye, one that James knew he wasn’t going to fight with.

I wouldn't say I've ever got full-blown hate, but I've got a few negative comments, most of them for writing Sirius/Lily. Stuff like 'Sirius would never do that to James' - even when it's a story where the Sirius/Lily part is fake dating and James is actually aware of it and endorsing it. xD The mind boggles.

I write some smut, yes! M/F, mostly vanilla stuff. :p

A couple! Apart from taller than the trees which I've already mentioned, I'd cowritten a fic for L&C with my friend Raquel.

My old WIP Through Times Of War. It was my attempt to write Book 7 before DH came out. I still remember my plans for it, I had an ending and everything, but I'm just not interested in that era anymore.

A good grasp of grammar, vocabulary, flow - the technical aspects. My writing always looks very polished.

Coming up with a good plot/what happens next.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I've done it once - had Fleur and her family fight in French about Bill, in listening range of the Weasleys. I think that, if you're going to write dialogue in another language for a fic, it has to serve a narrative purpose. I don't like it when characters speak in another language or drop random words/endearments just to show off the writer's headcanons about where they're from.

I try to, most of the time. As long as I feel there's something to reply to. It's the least that I can do, though sometimes when comments pile up in the inbox it can also feel a bit overwhelming. And sometimes I let them sit there for too long at which point I feel weird answering at all.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I'm very much a happily ever after type of a writer but I do have two SessKag one shots that have unhappy endings. Foil (M) and Vagary (M).

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Super hard to say, since I'm all for happy endings. I'm restricting my choices to Jily fics since I was tagged for this question thing by my jily fam so... I guess Fall Fluff! It's a 500 word ficlet but the ending is especially sweet. 😉

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Hardly ever. There's annoying comments here and there, sure. I've got anon hate once from someone anti that particular ship. And I did have a popular chapter fic with a plot twist that became somewhat controversial. Hate is a strong word, but I got enough upset comments on it that though it's been a decade, I sometimes still cringe a little if I see a comment notification on that fic.

9. Do you write smut. If so what kind?

No. I have only one fic that's rated E on AO3. Some of my M rated fics might have sex scenes, particularly the chapter fics. But I don't write smut, I don't even like the word smut and its connotation. Because I like to write sex scenes that are tasteful, that are a balancing act of giving just enough detail and description. I like to focus on the feelings and the relationship development and I don't like naming body parts.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I've only ever written one proper crossover, where characters from different series interact (though even that took place in AU setting so it wasn't a crossover in the purest form) but it's never been published. I have done multiple fusion type crossovers, though, in which I take characters from one franchise (Jily) and insert them into the world of another established franchise (The Office). I'd say my Jily The Office AU fusion (In the Dumps, Rated T) and my SessKag Star Wars AU fusion (A Leap of Faith, Rated G) are the craziest, in that I've never watched The Office nor been a Star Wars fan lol

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Once, that I know of. My popular SessKag fic Chain of Love (M) was posted without my knowledge on Wattpad. After a reader alerted me, I tried contacting the thief. When they never responded, I contacted Wattpad and it was promptly taken down.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I have. Some of them are pre-AO3, though, so they're not linked with the translated work function. But the one that does show properly on AO3, is a Chinese translation for my SessKag one shot Cold (G).

13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

I've made a few efforts with an IRL friend of mine, but they've both fizzled out sooner or later. I'm not sure I'm the co-writer type, honestly. 😅 I used to brainstorm a lot with my friends when I first started writing fic so that was co-writing of sorts, I guess.

Since I've been writing them for half my life now, I guess I have to say SessKag lol

Brevity lol. I like my one shots and I've been told I'm good at creating a whole story or scene in very few words. I'd say I'm also good at writing dialogue and conveying emotion. I also like semi-open endings, so I have a knack at ending my one shots at a point where it would be easy to imagine a continuation for them.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Inconsistency. When I don't have a writing routine established, such as now, I will only bother writing anything when I feel like it. And generally I feel like it once every other month, at most. If I don't have a writing routine going, I can happily go for months without writing a single word. I really should work on getting a routine going one of these years. Also I can't stand editing. I don't do first drafts. Or any drafts, really. I want to just write it once and then post it. Which is what I tend to do. I do proofread and do line editing, but I don't tend to do any deeper edits and have little patience to go make bigger adjustments to the story afterwards because in my mind it's finished and I've already moved on from it.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I don't hate it, I guess, but I don't see the point of it? Having terminology of another language in a fic is fine, imo. Cultural concepts like kimono or samurai don't really have good enough translations. Also I think using Japanese honorifics in dialogue serves a purpose. You could replace some with Mr and Miss, sure, but when you get to the nitty gritty, there are hierarchy levels and whatnot that English equivalents do not convey. But having entire lines of dialogue be in another language seems a bit unnecessary to me, 90% of the time.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I've since deleted the fic since I was never going to continue it, but the first fic I ever published was a next gen fic for my favourite book series growing up: David Eddings' The Belgariad and the Malloreon.
