Episode 6: Lin Xiao Xi hugs Father Lin

I’m not doing episode recaps on this show because I’m so lost with all the mathematics and will probably not have much commentary because of it. But I’ll do my best to post more gifs of my favorite scenes because I’m enjoying this one a lot more than I thought I would.

This scene was so sweet - got me teary eyed. Lin Zhao Sheng probably feels some sort of connection with Lin Xiao Xi and decides to transfer his job to work closer to the kids. Lin Xiao Xi is having such a hard time and couldn’t resist hugging Father Lin (not Master) as emotional support. I love their relationship whether it’s in the past or present, these three actors show such a great job at the father-daughter connection. :)

A few actors for supporting cast don't have a tag bc they seem to be newbie actors and/or have very small online presence

Tips: 1) Without a weibo account you can scroll through the actor's tag only up to abt 45 most recent posts. The actors perform in multiple plays (duh) so non-LC photos will show up too.

2) Imo the most optimal method, so the limits won't stop you is: go to the main 'LC musical' tag and see what's new. Check schedule for the cast lineup in a recent performance. Go to the actors' tags to see what's new.

3) Sometimes there are 2 performances on a same day, with different actors. So don't be surprised if you find mixed lineups under one date.

4) Mostly QL and Lin Zhen's actresses post behind the scenes photos on their personal profiles. Don't bother looking up the guys accounts, unless it's a holiday or their b-day >< From what I remember, only Wu Yihan posts abt his cat. Zhang Jiahao and Zhou Bobo post selfies sometimes. Ji Xiaokun posts his own photography (he's good!).

5) Google translate, however broken, is enough to translate the captions, so use it for context✨Ppl sometimes give their reviews titled 'repos' from the stage they've seen 🙏

6) You'll find more musical related clips under the actor's tag, than in 'LC musical' main tag. It's usually in an actor's fancam, but not always. Useful when you like an actor or there was a particular moment you want to see from a different angle🌟👌

7) The clips tab (one in the middle) under the actor's tag has no time limited access. You can browse and watch the videos without issues!

Watching the delicious trashiness of Maid’s Revenge has inspired me to make a listing of my favorite (and not so favorite) warlord and warlord adjacent cdramas. If like me, you like your male leads with polished boots and a side of murder, come right in. From most to least fave.

Siege in Fog

My most favorite on this list, this is visually gorgeous and emotionally visceral. Plus, it’s not just ONE warlord, it’s a whole family of them! It follows a deeply dysfunctional marriage between a beautiful woman and a warlord’s second son, where they fight and angst and love and fight some more, all the while bullets are flying and bodies are piling up. If you like incredible visuals, insane chemistry, dysfunction by the bucket and not one, not two, but THREE hot warlords, come right in. It’s based on a Fei Wo Si Cun novel so I assume you know you need a lot of tissues.

To sum up:

Too Late to Say I Love You

Another FWSC adaptation! This is an older drama, done long before cdrama’s recent unwelcome slide into wholesomeness, which means epic makeouts but also a warlord that revels in murder (at one point he takes out all his potential rivals, including his loved sister’s entire fam.) The OTP is dysfunctional - they hate, then they love, then they break up but he can’t let go - and the chemistry is beyond insane, with Wallace Chung and Li Xiao Ran melting my computer. Also, for once, a happy ending!

Winter Begonia

Probably the only genuine masterpiece on the list (tho I love FWSC dysfunction best for purely personal reasons), this is a MM story (though being cdrama it’s not explicit, though quite clear) and Huang Xiaoming as a trader with a private army and Yin Zheng as an opera singer with whom he forms a bond are both!!! I highly recommend it.

City of Streamer

Should be called “City of Steamer” because those make-outs and chemistry are epic! Timmy Xu is a son of a shady businessmen (with a small army of gun happy goons) who falls hopelessly in love with an older governess (Jing Tian) who is out for revenge on his family. She starts out using him and ends up using him in a different sense, if you know what I mean! The plot derails a bit by the end but it’s still a great watch.

Maid’s Revenge

I am watching it right now. At only 10 minutes per ep, it skips plot and gives us the melo and chemistry we (and I mean I) crave and a guy whose muscles should be in a museum.

The Lady and the Liar

Hawick Lau is the ML and we all know this means “hot bastard.” He’s a crime lord with a goon squad falling for a lost heiress who loses her memory so he lies she’s his fiancee and deliciousness ensues. MMMMM

Arsenal Military Academy

Xu Kai is warlord jr but this is here mainly because of his awesome brother the businessman with murder squad. The drama is so-so (patriotism overtakes the amazing chemistry between Bai Lu and Xu Kai) but might be worth a peek.

Cruel Romance

(Can you say no to this face?)

Joey Chen has never worked in anything for me and this is no exception, but Huang Xiao Ming is dashing as hell as a sexy gangster.

Love In The Flames of War

The heroine is terrible (I kept rooting for her to get accidentally shrapnelled) but Shawn Dou is sexy as hell as a warlord. (In the novel he was apparently a rapey headcase; they made him lovely in the drama without making his wife saner which is...a choice.) I’d say worth it on FF for hotness and whippings.

The Mystic Nine

I tried. I tried to watch this drama three times. I could not. But William Chan as a warlord in a three-piece suit and cape is mega mega fine!

Fall In Love

The worst drama on this list, insulting to intelligence of anyone above pre-school level, 90% of the cast, including the leading lady, incapable of acting, a plot that makes a picture book seem complex and fashion disasters galore. However, Chen Xing Xu, playing the smirky warlord, carries this mess harder than Atlas and deserves to be in another, better drama altogether. Oh, what wouldn’t I give for him as a proper FWSC warlord!

Honorable Mention:  Forward Forever - haven’t watched that one but keep meaning to.

Yang: (sprinting through the back fields of the house) You'll never take me alive!!!

Tian: (giving chase) Get back here, Dagon! You need to take your arthritis medication!

Yin: (taking up the rear) And your blood pressure meds!

Keir: (sprinting around tryng to flank Yang) The doctor even made it easy on you by making it into a single syrup cocktail that you only have to take once a month! Come on!

Yang: NEVER!!!

Tian: (panting) How the hell is she in her fifties but still so fast?

Yin: I have no idea, but there has to be an easier way to do this...

Keir: GUYS!!! I GOT HER!!!

Tian & Yin: (sprint up to where Keir is struggling to hold Yang down)

Yang: Betrayed by my own son!!!

Tian: Good job, Keir! (passes medicine filled syringe to Yin and pins down Yang's other arm) How did you catch her?

Keir: I pretended to sprain my ankle in a rabbit hole.

Yang: Traitor! Those rabbit holes are no joke!

Yin: (straddles Yang's chest and uses her knees to help hold down Yang's shoulders) This is for your own good, Dagon! We want you to be healthy so you can live a long, happy life!

Yang: (bucking like a bull as she pins her lips shut and bites the insides closed while thrashing her head back and forth)

Tian: (struggling to hold Yang down) Oh, hey, look! Mama's home!

Yang: (cranes head towards the house) Hey, Ba- ack!

Yin: (pinches Yang's nose closed and stuffs the syringe of medicine in her mouth, pressing down the plunger and laying on Yang's face to force her to swallow)

Yang: (thrashes and starts rolling around like a crocodile doing a death roll) mmmMMMMmmMMMmMMm!!!!!!

-At the Dinner Table-

Blake: (glances around the table) Soooo...how was everyone's day?

Yang: (pouting with her arms crossed and barely picking at her food)

TYK: (covered in dirt and grass stains) Dagon's angy.

Blake: I see that. Why is Yangy angy?

TYK: Medicine....

Yang: (huffs and turns away from the table) Betrayed by my own children.

Horrid Aftermath

Chapter 2

Almost everything hurt. Mainly his body, specifically just below his heart. Had Xiao-Tian fallen asleep? If so for how long? What even happened? Xiao-Tian searched for any memory of what happened beforehand.. Ah. He stabbed himself. He slowly opened his eyes, and he saw a very worried Nurse.

“You’re not supposed to be awake yet! Uh, how do you feel?”

“..fine. Where’s Macaque?”

“You mean Lui’ er Mihuo? He had to leave because he wasn’t finished with work. What happened?”

“I was stabbed, I think…”

“Did you see who did it?”

“No, I didn’t. It’s all a little fuzzy. I hope I don’t seem impatient, be when will I be able to leave?” The nurse thought for a moment.

“Let me get a doctor, he’ll check on the wound and decide whether you can leave.” The nurse then left Xiao-Tian’s room, he scanned his surroundings. It was filled with regular medical equipment and thankfully his clothes and gear were on a counter not too far from him. Xiao-Tian got up and reached his belongings, he grimaced from the pain in and outside his body. Seriously what was going on with him? Why was he suddenly so weak?

“Ahem.” A voice announce from the doorway, “Going somewhere?” It was Macaque. Mk stalled.

“..No.?”

“Sit back down.” Mk obeyed seeing as how even if he tried, the only way to even try to leave the hospital would be to make a scene. “You seriously think you’ll leave just like that? Without a checkup? And without civilian clothes?” Macaque chuckled at the thought of Mk flying out of here, the amount of chaos that would bring is almost amusing. “Now, you’ll be answering my questions now.”

Oh no, shiiittt…

“What actually happened, Xiao-Tian? I know for a damn fact that no way some rando off the street could stab you.”

“That’s not true.. look at me Macaque. Am I in any way shape or form able to fight right now?”

“You’re not, but you’d still do it.”

Even if his words slightly sting, he was right. Nearly almost any condition that Xiao-Tian was in he’d always try and find some way of fighting. “Listen, I won’t pry, but I will still worry. I also brought you a change of clothes. The meetup is still going to happen, you can come if you want. I’ve already told The Lady what I know, she’s asked the workers to let you go and for me to check you over.” With that said Macaque left, he didn’t use any shadows this time. He just walked out the door and closed it. Strange. Macaque almost always uses his shadow travel. Xiao-Tian would ask later, changing first questions later. Xiao-Tian changed into his signature outfit, he was super relieved to finally be able to wear his jacket again. Even if he had worn it the day before. He walked out of the room and Macaque was to his left.

“There you are, I was beginning to think that you’d never leave that room.” Macaque said sarcastically, Mk used his golden vision. And it was the same as usual. A monkey shadow with an X for a left eye. So why was he acting weird? “Is something wrong kid? You look lost in thought.”

“You’re just acting weird is all.. sorry.”

“Bah, no need to apologize! Besides, I’m just worried.” Macaque ruffled Mk’s hair and he had stifle a giggle. “Now here comes the winning question! Will you be joining me or not?”

Mk thought, he’s made up his mind.

“Sure, I don’t see why not. But don’t expect me to talk or do anything..”

“I wouldn’t expect any else.”

This time the two laughed.

Mk and Macaque stood next to Pigsy’s noodle shop. Yin and Jin had already beaten the two so Macaque was just making sure that the kid he was babysitting was up for this.

“Are you sure?” Mk nodded, Macaque was clearly worried that being near his old friends would be too much. But Mk convinced him otherwise. After one more reassurance the two walked into to meet Yin and Jin. They were seated not too far away from the door and Jin waved to the two monkeys and beckoned for them to sit down and join. So they did.

“How did everyone’s day go?” Jin asked, fishing for any juicy drama

“Well, nothing much happened.” Macaque answered, Mk didn’t answer at first but felt like he had too, he also only wanted to answer so Jin would stop staring at him so intently.

“Uh, it went fine, nothing out of the ordinary..” Jin huffed but was satisfied,

“What about you two? Anything happen with you guys?” Macaque asked

“No, all just more political meetings. Why can’t we get the fun assignments like you guys?”

“I dunno, I would say ask The Lady but she wouldn’t exactly take too kindly to someone trying to change up assignments.”

“And how would you know?” Jin pressed Macaque.

“I am a witness and victim of our Dear Lady’s wrath.” Jin looked awkwardly away, Yīn looked a little confused and apologetic. “What’s with the faces? There’s no need to be so dramatic, I don’t really care all that much anymore. If anything, I’m surprised she hasn’t used me as an example yet.” Their chat seemed to catch the attention of someone else in the shop.

“When you talk of this ‘Lady’, do you mean Lady Bone Demon?” It was a middle aged man, he had circular glasses pressed up his nose and a red and white with gold accents on his outfit. Tang. Mk slightly stiffened and avoided eye contact.

“Yes, do you have any questions?” Macaque offered, Yīn and Jin looked over to him frantically. Macaque looked back. “What?“ he turned back toward Tang and Yin only sighed while Jin pretended not to be there. Mk hadn’t noticed before but Macaque was in his human form, when was that change made? Maybe when they sat down?

“Is it hard to work for her?” Tang asked innocently, taking notes in his book.

“Eh. Depends if we’re on her hood side or not.” Macaque stared intensely at Tangs writing, Mk looked over only now seeing Tang’s face in what felt like forever. Tang looked back and Mk darted his eyes away. Why was he so awkward? Macaque got up swiftly and quietly to look over Tangs shoulder.

“Whatcha drawing?” Tang jumped and quickly closed his book,

“Nothing! I’m just taking notes..”

“Any particular reason?”

“No.. just informative notes! Perhaps to help my friend with more success!” Tang said, obviously nervous. Yin just stared blankly while Jin had a looked silently asking if Tang thought they were all stupid.

“Well, if you any more feel free to ask. We don’t mind.” Macaque said, almost threateningly. Tang nodded and speed-walked off and Macaque sat back down. For what felt like the millionth time to Mk, silence engulfed them. That was until Macaque broke it.

“Hey, Yīn? Why are we even here?”

“Well, technically speaking this counts as one of our assignments.” Yīn said in a language unknown to Mk, he also partially whispered it. “We were told that this noodle shop supported the rebellion. So we were asked to investigate.”

“I see, I thought I heard the Lady mention something like that.” Macaque, Yīn, and Jin kept talking Mk could feel eyes piercing through his back and tried to sink into his seat without anyone else noticing. They didn’t get anything to eat since the noodle shop wasn’t exactly a walk in-order food and eat it there type place anymore. Eventually they left the restaurant and walked out, Mk was partially relieved because he didn’t need to feel eyes burning his back and slowly stabbing their way through it. Yīn and Jin went back to the Bone Palace to give their report and Macaque walked Mk back to his Apartment, still in disguise of course.

“Well, see ya kiddo! If you ever need anything don’t be afraid to ask dear ole’ uncle Macaque.” He ruffled Mk’s hair and walked off. Mk didn’t feel like going back to his apartment. He walked back the direction he came slowly and let his thoughts consume him, muscle memory taking over his body so he wouldn’t get lost. Why would Pigsy’s be under Bone Demons radar even if they’re supporting the rebellion? They shouldn’t make a difference, since they failed to prevent her from winning. Don’t say that Mk! Your friends are strong! They can protect themselves. How could he think that his friends were weak? They weren’t! Could he even call them his friends?

“Hey, kid, did I attract any unwanted attention?” A familiar voice questioned, Mk had walked past Pigsy’s shop without realizing. Mk looked over, like Tang, he was the same old Pigsy in all his glory.

“No, why would you think that?” Now it was Mk’s turn to question, Pigsy looked a little surprised? No not surprise.. worried?

“Never mind that, why are you out at this time of night.”

“I just have some trouble sleeping sometimes, nothing too serious.” Quiet was again ringed through Mk’s ears, what would he do now? He can’t just walk out of the conversation! Yet he didn’t want to leave it.. Mk was brought out of his thoughts by a classical Pigsy sigh,

“Listen kid, I don’t know what’s going through your head or what’s going on in your life, but.. you can always come back if you want..”

…

What? But Mk worked for The Lady Bone Demon, and if the rumors were true why would he be welcome back? Would he have the time? Is Pigsy only trying to get info out of him?

He hoped not..

“Kid?”

“Oh, uh, thank you, I’ll stop by if I have the time..” Mk thanked Pigsy and waved goodbye, continuing to walk down the pathway past Pigsy and his shop.

I guess it is good that I went for a walk.. speaking of which I should probably head back to my apartment. Qi Xiao-Tian, The Bone Demon’s right hand envoy, Mk.. perhaps there was hope.

With Xiao-Tian finally lifted out of his dark and tired thoughts and round a corner and morphed into a bird. Heading back to his apartment and actually trying to get sleep, and it worked.

What a weird encounter, Pigsy couldn’t help but think that. When he saw the kid in his shop he couldn’t help but feel a little mad that the people who worked for the self appointed savior of Megapolis had been in his shop, but he couldn’t refuse service. He’ll admit that he was staring at them from behind, but a part of him felt bad when one of them tried to shrink in his seat without being noticed. He would’ve thought that he was just trying to spy but was later persuaded by Tang that he probably just uncomfortable, according to Tang while the others had no problem looking him in the at least the face or the eyes, the same one Pigsy was mainly staring at had nearly refused to look at Tang. Even darting his eyes away when Tang looked over to him. Strange. To Pigsy at least.

“Pigsy, if you don’t mind me asking, why’d you invite him to come back?”

He didn’t have an answer as he sat down next to Tang, he had just closed the shop up and locked it. Pigsy just felt like he had too, he doesn’t do this often if at all.

“I don’t have an answer for ya Tang, I just guess Sandy’s rubbin’ off on me.” Sandy was Pigsy’s best friend, they had met at a boxing match when someone invited both of them into the ring, Sandy had won his round but Pigsy eventually passed out after knocking out the opponent when he insulted his grandmother. The two sat in silence(more awkward silence YAY).

When Mk first fell asleep he didn’t even realize, but after some time he was met by a lush garden with many plants and vegetable, and of course the inescapable cats wandering around said garden.

Bai He had planted him into a dream, or visited him in one of her crafting. For a kid, she’s somehow able to quickly adapt to her abilities even if it’s only the dream based one’s. Mk followed one of the cats and it led him to a bench that sat Bai He, she always seems so happy and cheerful whenever in these dreamscapes. Mk always wondered how..

“Mk! Finally! Hey, what took you so long? You haven’t been into my dreamscapes in a few days.. I started to get worried.”

“I’m fine Bai He, I just glad you’re okay. And I love what you’ve done with the place!”

“Thanks! Monkey King and Macaque visited me! Monkey King helped with the greenery and plants while Macaque helped with the architecture. Also they both said Hi.”

“Hehe, we’ll tell them that I said hello. How have your powers been coming along? Easy I assume with two monkeys helping you.”

“Eehhh, it’s been easy but from time to time I accidentally lose control.”

A cat came up and rubbed against Bai He’s leg, she picked the cat up and placed it on her lap. The cat purred as Bai He scratched its forehead. Though there wasn’t much to talk about, it was always nice being in Bai He’s presence. And knowing that Monkey King hadn’t forgotten about Mk as well. He was glad he still had the people he had, but he couldn’t help but feel hopeless knowing he’d never have the ones he’d first met back ever again.

Today felt different, he was happy? Was it because of the interaction with Pigsy? Or was it because of the silent chat with Bai He? Whatever it was, it was like he was the same old Monkey Kid. Of course he got a few stares from those who only ever saw him as the tired lap dog of the Lady Bone Demon. Especially Yīn and Jin. The shock on Jim’s made Mk nearly die of laughter but he contained it. Yīn just seemed surprised if anything, he’s probably seen more surprises.

“Woah! You- you’re- smiling??” Jin said, both quietly but loud enough to seem like a shout to those close to him.

“Yes! I am, did you think I couldn’t?” Mk joked, Macaque and Yīn chuckled at this. Jin became defensive.

“Well, you can clearly! I never- uh, it’s just surprising. Since you’re always so tired..”

“I have to admit that he not exactly wrong, everyone’s just used to you being constantly tired and out of it.”

“Not everyone.” Macaque chimed in, “I’m actually used to dear Qi Xiao-Tian here being full of energy and usually getting himself into A LOT of unintentional mischief and hi-jinx. Believe it or not, it’s the truth.” At this Jin’s mouth practically dropped, he was astonished. Mk laughed at this and struggled to contain his giggles. Jin ended up making an oath that day, a supposed to be joke oath.

“No matter what happens, I will always protect and care for you. Don’t ask why you just seem happier and you need to be happier.”

How ironic. The person that Jin reminds Mk of made a similar oath. Just when they were younger and far more immature. Xiao-Tian would be sure to cherish this moment forever.
