#a classic dumb ‘joins the batfam’ idea

Imagining Jason Grace finding out he’s related to a billionaire named Bruce Wayne because his mother and him were actually cousins (or whatever. rich family) a few hours after Nico di Angelo resurrects him.
Him joining the family and some sibling bonding, which he missed out his whole life from and finding a home, discovering who Jason Grace is, learning how to accept love
Panic attack or PTSD because of his death and literally everything else the poor guy’s been through
The the awkward moment where his identity is found out and the family being weirder out due to the fact that they have two dead Jasons that were brought back to life, both related to Thalia/Talias
(Cue a awkward meeting between the Jasons
“We’re nothing alike”)
Naturally Jason gets along with Dick Grayson best as the team moms
The the meeting with DIANA
“Why do you have my little bro with you???”
“Tf”
Then cue Nico being on the Batfam’s watch list because he’s been rushing around Gotham collecting escaped souls (or whatever) then Jasico because I can-
-the parallels with them and another certain couple with a emo bat and a reporter wearing glasses who could fly-
I’ll shut up now.
(This was stuck in my head I’m sorry-)
#jason grace#nico di angelo#jasico#batfam#bruce wayne#jason todd#crossover#pjo hoo toa#dc universe#superbat#im sorry#i have to get this out before it drives me insane#a classic dumb ‘joins the batfam’ idea#except my boy jason grace needs recognition#and jasico deserves a crossover story because wtf there aren’t any??!??

My Favorite Tropes I've Seen in Batman Fanfics (Ao3)
This is not in order btw:
Social Media fics
twitter, reddit, tiktok, youtube or in universe press also Reality TV fics (also also that one bachelor fic)
Independent Gotham
there's not alot of fics about this which is sad but basically gotham is its own state now, this is usually tied in with No Man's Land so yeah :)
Sentient Gotham
so gotham the city is alive and maybe cursed, and depending on the fic she can be protective and loving towards batfam, or manipulative and cruel. Either way I find and eldritch city interesting
White Collar Crossovers (X and Neal Caffrey are the Same Person)
haven't actually watched white collar lol but basically a dc character usually dick is undercover as neal caffrey a criminal informant to the FBI and shenanigans ensue or angst thats cool too
Identity Reveal (a classic)
identity reveals along with their adjacent tropes such as identity porn or identity fail is always entertaining to me. theres alot of drama and intrigue with a secret identity being revealed and its interesting to see how others react especially with many members of the batfamily having public personas. this usually occurs with other dc superheros though and very rarely with civillians or the public at large which i find unfortunate because i find the idea intriguing with all the fallout a public reveal would entail
The Malones
i like how this trope has bruce/others juggle yet another secret identity. i especially like when the rest of batfam have an identity corresponding the the Matches Malone identity. I think its interesting to see how they act as criminals. also worth a mention is the mafia/crime empire au which is related
Time Travel (another classic)
time shenanigans are always fun, but also time travel fix its are chef's kiss
Dimensional Hopping
could be very interesting comparing different characterizations of characters. the reactions of characters when facing their counterparts or another version of someone they know intrigue me
Body Swap
I like the "Walk a Mile in My Shoe" kinda situations. I also like body sharing, but that isn't as popular.
Cryptid Batfamily
i just enjoy the batfam being BAMFs and being creepy.
Isolated Batfamily
i think i enjoy these because and isolated batfamily is usually a tighter knit one and thats always cool. seeing how they develop as a family and vigilantes without the intervention of the community as a whole is cool
Platonic Soulmates
I like soulmates as a trope in general in romance but batfam for me is all about the found family dynamics and platonic soulmates hit that mark. i love a fic where bruce has like 10 different soulmates when he expects to be a loner
Omega Bruce (Gen Fic A/B/O)
as i just said batfamily for me is all about the found family dynamics and this trope is all about that. omega bruce just highlights the protectiveness and motherly instincts I enjoy seeing with his kids but most general rated omegaverse fics are interesting to me. I also like omegaverse a plot device and the social commentary that can come from it
Asexual Bruce Wayne
I think its interesting to see him written that way when his public persona is so wildly different. I also like to see it because I could kinda get to see how asexuals experience things through the lens of a character I enjoy
Slut Bruce Wayne
opposite end of the spectrum lol. its just as entertaining to see how much he plays into his role. it think it being juxtaposed with him being batman and all broody like is interesting
Brucie Wayne
i just love that dumb himbo billionaire. there are many flavors of brucie, but i think seeing him act out in outrageous way is very amusing especially at the expense of others
Tim Drake (or other :D) Joins the Batfamily Early
with tim this usually involves his parents being wildly neglectful (as opposed to absent in canon) to downright abusive and then Bruce gets custody yay :D. ive also read ones where both tim and jason come early and those are pretty nice. I think what's appealing is that tim and jason don't interact until after everything goes to shit so its nice that young tim can interact with young jason and dick and bruce. its also nice that they could save a little heart ache by coming to bruce earlier rather than later.
Outsider POV
could be unreliable narrator which is nice, but also seeing what others not in the know think of batfam's actions could be interesting. having a normal random person interact with the crazy that comes with being a vigilante is cool
Jason and his Goons
not sure if its actually considered a trope and kinda falls under outsider pov. i just think its neat
Batman and Rogues Friendship?
ive read a couple fics involving bruce & harley or bruce & harvey (would bruce & selina count? lol) and I just think exploring the relationship between bruce and his enemies is interesting. it really speaks to his character, or atleast what i think which is second chances, seeing the good and hope in the damndest of cities and its people. its one of his core philosophies and a part of what makes him batman.
Bruce Whump
everyone loves a good whump, right? right? woobified batman ftw amirite. angst is good yes :>
Bruce Wayne is a Good Parent
also Bruce Wayne Tries to be a Good Parent. kind of a given, but i just love batdad. the opposite trope of bruce being a bad parent could be interesting, especially if you like other members of the batfam, but I don't think my heart could take it. I think bruce should always be at least trying to be a good parent, and possibly failing because angst, but him just being bad just makes me sad :C. its good when done correctly and him failing despite how hard he tries but I came here for the good family feels not ASB&R
CPS involved
kinda funny with my previous one, but I like it because it tests how bruce cares for his children. its a plot device for drama but also its a very real thing that he should deal with because we want the best for the bat children. I think its also an excuse for them to be outraged on behalf of him. I think of a comic panel i saw of bruce crying while talking about jason when talking to a social worker.
Bruce Wayne Kills the Joker (DCU)
i know that not killing is his whole thing, which i agree should be a thing and is valid, but i also like the thought of him killing for his kids, sacrificing him morals, or even him mental well being for them, especially Jason because that is kind of their whole dichotomy and wouldn't that be great, for bruce to do the one thing that jason asks and them being happy again? Technicially if memory serves right bruce does kill the joker in Death in the Family but then it might of gotten retconned? maybe he stopped himself inbetween the comics, or somehow joker survived the murder attempt, but either way the intent was there. anyways I like the moral dilemma and potential fallout it may entail.
Bruce Wayne is a Troll
bruce having a sense of humor yes. bruce fucking with people even more yes. I love me those fucking with the JL fics. I love me some crack <3.
De-ageing
good for angst, good for fluff, just good overall i guess. Similar to time travel in that people have different amounts of information. 10/10
Truth Serum
another good plot device for angst, also for fixing shit. the best way to force emotional conversations when the whole family is emotional constipation™
Young Bruce Wayne
I love the exploration of his character before becoming batman. I think there should be more fics about his childhood. Fics with him and alfred are <3
#batfamily#batman#opinions#fanfic#ao3#textpost#might reblog with the fics idk#if i feel like it#and im not being lazy#this post is longer than i expected it to be#long post#this took way to long to write#im finally done after 1 hour#*2 hours actually RIP

Batkid figure floorskating
AO3 link
The first one to commit the offense had, very predictably, been Dick.
No one would be surprised to hear it, in fact, next to swinging on the chandelier and sliding down the banisters, just zipping around in socks on the polished and waxed ball-floor was extremely tame for him.
Each one of Bruce’s children had at one moment or another, taken a few minutes to just play with the feeling of running half across the room, then letting themselves slide the rest of the way.
Even Damian, though the first time hadn’t been totally voluntary, and he always covered his game up by declaring he was practicing his landings in case he had to navigate a gravelly rooftop as Robin.
Something changed with Cass. Cass, who loved classic dancing, and had made a good few dancer friends. And one day, these friends innocently told her she should watch the finale of the winter Olympics figure skating.
Cass had seen it. And then she’d dragged Tim and Steph to look with her. And then Dick had wanted to know what his younger siblings were bonding over. And then Damian go irritated to be left out and butted in too.
Dick had wistfully said it reminded him of skidding on the ballroom floor, and Cass had perked up at it, insisting they try it too.
It had become something of a weekly ritual, everyone converged to the ballroom in their slidiest socks and spent a few hours practicing their floorskating.
Jason just happened upon them by chance one day while he was trying to sneak into the Batcave for a bit of intel while Bruce was asleep. He looked a bit wistful, and so he was begged to join in by the most insightful members (Cass and Dick) of their little slide-club.
Damian sneered at his socks, and Dick apologized for the youngest’s attitude, but still gave Jason a pair of his own more appropriate ones and they showed him which routines they were trying to emulate.
After that, Jason just popped back at the manor for the weekly floorskating practice.
In the end they all forgot about dodging Bruce, who got curious for the relative silence he woke up in and came to the room, only to see his sons and daughter (and almost daughter) practice backward sliding lifts in near syncronicity on the sound of silence.
He stood there, unnoticed for a few minutes, until Alfred came to fetch him and informed him with a smile that it had been going on for a while. Bruce could see the soft expression on the old butler’s face at the kid’s simple joy, and he wondered, when the last time was that he’d done something with his children just for fun. with no trace of the mission lurking around the corners.
He remembered, sliding along on this very floor, how long ago had this been? Alfred had tried harder then to feign annoyance at his antics than he did now for Bruce’s kids.
And just like that Bruce took his decision.
Two weeks after he first found out about the standing rendez-vous, Bruce tried to casually join in with his children, dressed just like them in sport leggings, a shirt and socks.
As soon as the shock wore off, but before Jason’s warry expression dissolved, Damian critiqued his choice of socks too, nose turned up at his poor choice. Bruce blinked and looked at the socks that he’d thought would work, and a snickering Dick rummaged in his bag to also lend Bruce one of his back-up pairs of extra-sliding socks.
Alfred stepped in hours later to tell them he’d prepared a snack for the athletes. Bruce couldn’t really remember the last time he’d had such an approving and happy gaze aimed at him by the butler.
He also couldn’t remember the last time he had so much fun.
They ate the snack, then the children egged Alfred on until the old butler reluctantly agreed to try a shoeless spin around the room. (Bruce noted that Alfred’s socks didn’t get any negative comments.) The spin turned into several, as the kids couldn’t agree to not be the one to pull Alfred round and had to settle it by taking turns, but Bruce could tell the old butler was delighted.
When everyone started to stretch and head for the showers, Bruce somewhat shyly asked his kid if they’d be okay with him joining them from then on. The strange look came back to Jason’s face, but Cass agreed so fast that it was pretty much that.
Still, Bruce had so much work to do with his second son. Maybe asking him to teach him some things would be a good idea? It could help mend their relationship.
Bruce went to take his own shower with a smile and strict instructions on what socks to wear next time.
And to Bruce’s mind, It had been it. Harmless, highly athletic, but non-combat-related fun with his children every week, his warry son accepting to be in the same room as him for a few hours every week.
He should have guessed his children had PLANS.
As it was, it took him an embarrassing amount of time to notice.
To be fair, any of his children taking off their shoes at a charity function wasn’t that unusual.
Or loosing their jackets.
Removing pants and ripping off skirts was new though.
And that’s when he saw the sequined, sparky, coordinated leggings that he connected the dots.
By then everyone had noticed his children (even more than usual) eccentric actions and was starring at them.
On cue, the orchestra started playing the song they had been practicing their routine to, and his children started to dance, and slide, some gracious a faeries, others deliberately flubbing and dumbing down their talent.
Bruce felt at once proud of how sneaky they were, and frustrated he didn’t have a matching pair of sparkly leggings to join in the fun.
There was a sigh near his elbow, and he turned to Barbara.
She smiled at him wistfully. “Steph told me about the practice. I wish I could still do that.” She glared momentarily at her unresponsive knees, and Bruce decided that he really didn’t need sparkling leggings.
His priceless shoes got removed and hung carelessly to Barbara’s chair, and he bent to pick her up, then slid into the empty space his children had created with their flashmob, twirling Barbara as he went.
He cut in swiftly in his children’s routine, and tossed Barbara up and away, trusting Steph and Cass to catch her.
The girls didn’t disappoint, tucking their female mentor between them and taking the fastest round they could, backward around the ballroom to make Barbara laugh.
Bruce, for his part, turned to Dick, whose partners he just stole and opened his arms in the sign to tell him he could do a lift up.
With a cry, Bruce’s oldest son lept into his arms and in dirty dancing style lift.
The next day, all the papers would be speaking about the Wayne’s figure floorskating show. Bruce just couldn’t wait for it.
I am dedicating this to @comicroute, @chibinightowl, @comebackolivia, @camsthisky, @tantalum-cobalt, @audreycritter, @glaciya. You’re all (and some other I didn’t @ too) making my tumblr experience great, so here, have some fluffy batfam bonding and social media frenzy inducing antics.
