You know.... we spit on Marshal Crux for blowing up Ortus and Glaurica, but as detestable as he is, he also.... had a point?

Glaurica's ghost was already scattered, and she still informed her old House of the creche massacre. She had maybe ten minutes as a revenant, and she still spilled one of Harrowhark's most closely kept secrets. Imagine what she could have done, if she'd made it there alive: the information that there were no newborns, after the massacre. The specifics of how the house is being run. Information, perhaps, on how the Reverend Parents have not spoken to anyone in close to a decade, nor been seen arranging the affairs of the house, having instead left everday business to their ten year old daughter.

And Ortus would be there, too. He might have more loyalty left to his house, but we know he added two and two together. He could have told Master Templars that the Reverend Daughter commited and unparalleled act of necromantic transgression, and that there is nobody left on the planet to keep it safe from censure.

Harrow should have never let them go. She didn't realize how much they knew, how much they inferred, but even without that, they knew too much.

Of course Crux took the matter into his own hand.

*hits blunt* Joker has a long-standing one-sided beef with Nightingale in the Blood Blossom au because Nightingale clocked his shit almost immediately and began "sharks are smooth"ing at him. But because Nightingale only comes out in case of emergencies, Joker has to come up with increasingly convoluted schemes to trap the Batman in order to lure him out.

This has the opposite desired effect because this is the equivalent of using increasingly difficult locks to keep the raccoons out of your trash. All you're doing is teaching the raccoons how to pick locks. This also pisses off the other Rogues because Joker keeps making trapping the Batman exponentially harder all because he's beefing with his teenage son.

Hello i need to know how long have you been in the ninjago fandom n i don't mean when u first watched the show i mean when you started engaging with the fandom itself

I really need ppl to understand 99% of the reason why Rulie's portrayed the way he is in fanfics is a combination of two factors:

1.) Jojo actively encouraged the fandom to write fanfic long before she even decided to make an actual long-form comic of her own.

2.) During this time period, & for quite a while after that, the majority of what the fandom had to work off of for Rulie's personality is from this doodle page, & this description for his personality literally straight frm Jojo herself.

... 2.5.) It should also be noted Jojo hadn't played Adventure Of Link until about halfway through the Sunset arc, as evidenced by this post (we know this is Jojo's sister b/c the official LU tumblr credited her for one of the goofy Sky panels).

Now, since then the way Jojo portrays Rulie didn't change drastically overnight, the Magic Sword comic did happen beforehand for instance... but I do think the level to which Jojo plans to focus on particular traits from Rulie's original design has evolved over the course of development for the comic.

More recent (and, uh, mostly discord-exclusive, so I can't give too many details here) commentary from Jojo indeed emphasizes plans to highlight Rulie's determination above all else, quite contrary to how she used to describe his character (it hasn't changed, probably, it's just a matter of plot-driven emphasis).

Fanfic writers aren't stupid, we're literally just working with what we have-AND, Rulie himself, as a very nuanced & layered character, is going to be portrayed in wildly different manners depending on context & genre.

If you want to see more of Rulie's sassy side,

1.) Read more recent fics (Alas you will likely have to search by recently updated, as the first wave of popular fanfic tends to get enshrined forever at the top of the list when searching by kudos & comments.)

2.) Don't read angst (Sorry not sorry but angst & vent fics are going to make up the majority of works in any fandom, & in these fics a character's vulnerable side tends to get spotlighted. Don’t like don’t read.)

3.) Respectfully Ask for recs instead of barging in & just straight up telling fanfic authors what to do. That's rude.

I was (and still am ngl) having a lot of health issues and logged out because i was overwhelmed and really needed a break that I assumed would only be temporary. its a Very long story but tldr- was logged out, new phone, email accounts didnt transfer over like id thought they would, absolutely no clue what email id used for the blog, tumblr Shockingly not helpful about it.

I only recently started drawing again, and got an overwhelming amount of encouragement from my friends to start posting instead of just keeping to myself.

no denying how repeatedly linked harrow and mercymorn are (tricky & wretched of john to entrust harrow to the person who also had a nun in their equation, and tag ianthe onto someone connected to franticide) but ortus’s declaration towards the end of the book applies more to mercymorn than to harrow — who do we blame when the one we lost is both the victim and the killer? where does that hate go, can we really stomach it? these words a bullet that grazed but ultimately missed harrow, because she could never allow herself to hate gideon again. so she hates the person hating whom is second nature, self blame as familiar as breathing. but mercymorn had resisted leading that emotion to its source, and she lived beside this grief's river mouth for 10k years, and she held that emotion close, but slightly to the side.

mercymorn, shrill, critical, unlikeable pink haired mercymorn rattles my brain because female rage can sometimes work like a bargain. scraps and empties, bruses and falsehoods, anything to placate, to pacify, to pin that rage in place for a little while longer. was there really no other way? was our mission truly worth it? did you love cristabel?

and there was another way, and the mission was not worth it. and god never liked cristabel. the second time she died, mercymorn was there to pick up the pieces, but the first time god left her body and soul alone, bloody and shattered on the cold floor. did that mercymorn, - not mercymorn the first, but the first mercymorn - find cristabel? did she go into that room where he'd left her because she checked for her everywhere? did she go on to die herself for john with ignorance or radical acceptance?

the unloveable mercymorn dooming all the nine planets because she was an atheist in love with a nun; someone who loved god well enough to die for him twice, and did not love mercymorn well enough to live for her once.

and god did not even like her.

there's something about kit acknowledging that of course he knows latin, he's a shadowhunter, as if it's just a given. you'd never know from this chapter that he spent his first fifteen years being trained to distrust and dislike that which is so inherent to who he is.
