Tumblr media
#to remind u guys if u're thinking about something naughty stop right there; the different size of the food served is also surprising#twisted wonderland#twst#sebek zigvolt#ace trappola#deuce spade#twst yuu#twst mc#fanart#do westerners go to asian country feels like they are served dwarf's portion#because as an asian; it always feel like we are served giant's portion; not exaggerating bcs we can never finish it#understandable because westerners can grow so tall so they must need more energy to burn#it's like if we order food; we asians always have to have a tupperware to take leftover home#but the price of the food in all the food places is so expensive it's reasonable the portion is big#i might ignite if paying so much we only get rabbit portion#anyhow i am just thinking of this because of the briar valley's big horse post#i do love to think everything is bigger in briar valley#the trees are all so lushfull and majestic like they all have lived a thousand years already#and the vegetables all just grow happily and absorb so much nutrient from the soil they are so big also#i was thinking of drawing e pel too but the space#while to people who born in this country feels things like these are normal#the thought of being able to be born in such a country where the produce all looking so big and healthy is such a blessing to me#it almost feels like they take it for granted; but it's just what they are born to#i have a nephew who is SUPER picky & waste food so much#i am crying everytime#yes y'all have a lot of food and good life here but h e l p#i'm sure the climate also makes vegetables bigger#i think i heard in winter plants stock more nutrients in their produce as stock for spring & summer#that's why winter veggies are better & sweeter and all#my country's vegetables are scrawny because the heat evaporates everything

thing about deltora quest that only occurred to me in hindsight is not only just how much jasmine carries the entire party on this quest but also how genre-defyingly brutal she is lol. like, this is a kid's series that hinges on riddles and puzzles far more heavily than combat - even when deaths occur, they're often the result of cleverness in some way rather than straight up combat ability. that said, let's look at the villain kill count at the end of book five of eight of the first series:
- lief: 1 - even there it's with a well-thrown bottle of cursed water rather than his sword.
- barda: 0 - i'm not counting that one unnamed sand beast, that's an animal not a villain.
- filli: 0 - he is a squirrel, this is unsurprising.
- kree: 1 - killed an invincible sorceress all by himself, good bird best friend.
- jasmine: 5 - dropped a tree branch on a mf, drowned two cannibals in quicksand, cut a giant snake's throat, shoved a dude down a pipe full of toxic mold (after having to be told not to cut his throat while he slept jfc).
idk it just suddenly struck me as really funny how this one character who isn't the protagonist is almost from a different, far more brutal story, and uses that fact to consistently be the mvp and save everyone else's asses. i need to read this series again it's been too long.

they’re just dead beat parents to YOU. to ME they are unapproachable divinities inherently so far removed from humanity and yet still depending on and participating in it despite it all which is precisely what makes them so messily human. we are not the same.

@bonesandthebees has me thinking about book recs, so I’m posting some of my favorites in case anyone wants something new to read!
FANTASY
Priory of the Orange Tree: This is a BRICK of a book. The hardcover would make a good weapon. But it’s also an incredibly good read. A well built fantasy world, dragons, sapphic romance, and it centers WOC characters. The prequel, A Day of Fallen Night, is also amazing.
Legends and Lattes: This is such a cozy little book! It’s fantasy, sent in a DND inspired world where a retired orc mercenary opens a coffee shop. Also, sapphic romance side plot. It’s very cute.
A Thousand Steps Into Night: A Japanese folklore inspired novel where the protagonist must make bargains with spirits to avoid becoming a demon. I learned a lot about Japanese legends and folklore in this one, and the protagonist, Miuko, is just so earnest and lovable.
SCI-FI
Project Hail Mary: Andy Weir does it again. A fantastic novel featuring a struggle across the galaxy to save earth as we know it, the most endearing alien EVER, really cool futuristic science, and a reminder that humanity also instills in us all a sense of good.
The Kaiju Preservation Society: This book is so much fuuuun. It’s just a blast. Inter dimensional travel, giant monsters, conservation, and a protagonist that had me cackling with laughter the whole time.
MYSTERY/THRILLER
The Final Girl Support Group: When the survivors of several horror-movie esque massacres are all targeted by a new killer, how will they survive? A really awesome story about a bunch of badass middle aged women who kinda hate each other teaming up to identify their would-be killer… before it’s too late.
Gone Girl: Nick Dunne didn’t kill his wife. He has no idea where she is, or what happened, and he swears he didn’t hurt her… but no one really believes him. Meanwhile, the truth is far more interesting, and a testament to the phrase “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” This is THE female rage story.

Thousand Autumns: Qian Qiu by Meng Xi Shi
Shen Qiao is a devout Daoist priest who has spent his life honing his skills and spirit, leading his sect with martial talent, beauty beyond measure, and an earnest heart. His polar opposite, Yan Wushi, leads one of the most powerful demonic sects and is said to be unrivaled in his strength and cunning. Yan Wushi believes in the inherently selfish nature of all people—himself included—and that nobody is above committing dark deeds for their own benefit. When a fight leaves Shen Qiao injured, blind, and with hazy memories, Yan Wushi takes in the defeated sect leader with a dark plan: test the limits of the man’s patience and faith in others to lure him onto the demonic path. Little does he know that he is about to meet the first immovable force of his life, and that two hearts can connect in unexpected ways. With the passing of a thousand autumns, who can stay eternal? Fantasy, romance, historical fiction, adult

🐉 Targaryen Family Tree
“Gaemon’s son Aegon and his daughter Elaena ruled together after his death. After them the lordship passed to their son Maegon, his brother Aerys, and Aerys’s sons, Aelyx, Baelon, and Daemion. The last of the three brothers was Daemion, whose son Aerion then succeeded to Dragonstone”

you say that there are three nature spirits in bb, hollylark among them. but the other two represented a specific type of plant. brokenstar was the fallen skyclan great oak, and star flower was born of the dead and dying blazing stars back at the lake territories. what would hollylark be? a holly plant? a lark bird?
Xe was named for xis mother's old name, who was herself named after a gnarled holly bush that sheltered Leafpool and Squirrelflight during her birth.
So a holly makes sense, but also, I may end up reworking xeir death. It makes sense that xe's taken out by turning xemself into the flowers that Sparkpelt needs as an antidote, like a willing sacrifice.
Plus, then Sparkpelt ends up blaming herself for the death of her partner, and it makes good drama for someone to plant it in Nightheart's head that it's her fault he only has one parent.
So anyway, Hollylark is either a holly bush, or related to the medicinal flower that Guardian Angel Shrewface grew for Squilf and Leafp so they wouldn't come back empty-pawed.
