what do you mean you'll only watch the adaptation of your favorite book "if it's AI"? what do you mean "only AI art can do justice to the characters"? never mind that every piece of character "art" AI spits out all looks like the same version of a photoshopped plastic mannequin. never mind that it relies on actual, stolen art to even exist. never mind that big studios are already trying to find every possible avenue to replace talented, dedicated human workers with AI

it terrifies me how willing some of you are to yield our crafts, our humanity, our passions in favor of worshipping at the altar of the black hole of vapid soullessness that is AI. all because the actors they cast don't live up to the insane, arbitrary standards you made up for your fictional boyfriends

#bury your gays #aroaessidhe 2024 reads #Yeah this was good! some creepy horror. some pointed discussion of corporate greed and algorithms/replacing artists #The bit at the end that’s like suddenly Corporate Gays! Queer Is Profitable Now (But Only Happy Queers!)#made me cringe in a ‘oh god that’s so accurate’ kind of way #There’s a few brief chapters that are full production scripts (sound effects/multiple VAs) which was cool (if brief)#and the way that related to the story was really interesting.#I will say - lots of discussion of bury your gays in tv (obviously)& discussion of recent trying to replace artists/writers with ai #but I feel like it skipped over the whole Cancelling Every Show With Lesbians (especially since the characters in his show are sapphic)?#Like that's very on theme and relevant; I would have expected a mention of it if nothing else haha #his best friend is aroace and I thought was handled pretty well #there's a bit at the end that's like her invisible identity helps her save the day which is obviously pointed commentary #but also it was her tech skills that did that not her sexuality?? so it felt slightly awkward. idk. not a major criticism lol #(I guess she is the kind of character to make it into a joke about that)#also is he named misha after. you know

not to bring tiktok drama on tumblr but like every time a ‘scandal’ comes out with one of these ‘production companies’ that make fan films i always hope we’re finally gonna discuss how they professionalize something that should be an hobbyist endeavor… and yet every single time i’m disappointed.

#like I know we’ve been talking about it here on tumblr and i remember seeing like one or two videos on tt about it #but other than that creators really don’t seem to be engaging critically with the impact that the very nature of what they’re doing has #and look i truly do love the art that some of the people involved in the project make #like arone is truly one of the most talented cosplayers i know #ethan is an amazing actor and I’ve followed him since before he was even in the marauders #dorian is a great writer and idk the others as well but I’m sure they are all great artists #((naming the just cause i feel like being vague would be worse in this case))#and i do believe they engaged with the project with the best of intentions #without knowing or trying to afford grace on past controversy #and it truly is a horrible predicament to have your work be tainted like that for something you had no control over #but like i do think we should be questioning the very idea of how this fanfilms have been made is inherently a problem #like fanfilms are essentially fanfiction on camera #so as long as a few cosplayers want to get together with their iphones write a script and shoot at the local park I don’t have a problem #but if you are putting in place a product that somehow requires you to fundraise consistently for two years then I have a problem with it #ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE SELLING THE SCRIPT TO DO SO #cause even if that script hadn’t been ai generated #that script is fanfiction and you do. not. sell. fanfiction.#seriously like… do we need to go over our abc again?#like fanart and cosplayers are a bit different in the sense that people sell fanart/do commissions and they can be professional cosplayers #but for any other fanmade project that requires you to put pen to paper (or keyboard to chatgpt ig)#you need to be engaging with several ethical questions regarding any exchange of money #and personally i don’t think that there’s been engagement with those ethical reflections #and this isn’t about any of the people involved and not even about mischief productions specifically #it’s about a wider issue in how we have been collectively normalizing a way of doing things that should not be normal #and like yes star using ai and being overall not good is bad but like can we talk about EVERYTHING ELSE please

wish is the latest disney movie that kinda sucked for a few reasons

it was supposed to be 2D animated but they switched to a stylized 3D that looks half assed

they had an actual villain song but it wasn't that good

the movie hired pop music writers instead of musical writers so all the songs were forgettable apparently

the whole movie felt so weird that some people think the script might've been ai generated, considering it was in production during the writers strike

I don't think there's any major proof of that but the fact that people are wondering tells a lot about the movie

apologies for the long ask, there's just a lot of drama with this movie lol

oh interesting. wack as hell

just googled it a bit. why do they keep doing this with their protagonists of colour "classic disney princess movies" with the non-promotion and the movie ultimately not being good

Onto greener pastures, the job search continues

#it's more difficult since i'm a full-time student but i've gotten good at catching the ''flexible working hours'' advertisements #and i'm thinking of narrowing my search down to flexible hours and locations which have a direct bus/tram line #to my college so i can like maximise the hours i can do #as for the script outline i wrote for that job application - i'm gonna flesh that out some time soon i think #make my own visual novel🙏 etc etc. idk he was giving red flags about the whole thing so i'm not even that upset #given how little respect he seemed to show for me as an applicant and my craft as a writer #i probs dodged a bullet. will keep an eye on his company tho just to see if he chose to use ai fully lmao

#today during our one on one my boss told me he would help me with trying to kickstart my writing career over the next year #he said he would recommend me for writer's assistant positions #he said he knows who's running the 24-25 writer's mentorship program and would put in a word when i apply this year #he if i couldn't find a script i need to read for reference he would try to find it for me #he sent me a pilot script for one of our new series and said we could read and meet to discuss character story arc and format questions #he knows i'm moving to mexico in 2025 and says he wants to do what he can to help with my career while he can #for context everyone is anxious about some industry news being reported in the trades about our company being bought by another one #and what it may mean for layoffs in our department #also he says they are testing ai workflow with a key element in our job responsibilities and that means they're prob gonna transition fully #at some point we're all gonna have to pivot #and he'd rather we both pivot to something we want to as opposed to being stuck on the same path and then layed off #so #i am gonna just prepare myself as best i can #if he keeps his word it could be even more of a transformative year for me #I won't have to do what i need to without help #in this industry knowing the right people and being prepared for opportunities is important #i'm just gonna put my head down and do what i need to
