#alastor can't talk

There was an earlier idea that didn't make it into the show proper that Alastor wouldn't be able to talk without his microphone, and I think it's fun to imagine if that stayed true to the show.

Alastor pops back up in the hotel but no singing. He just smiles, accepts the group hug, and then fucks off to his new room as soon as he possibly can.

Charlie's glad to have him back, but as the weeks pass, she worries. Alastor's never been super sociable, but he's practically become a ghost in the hotel. She tries going up to his room and inviting him down for some group activities. He doesn't have to join in! It would just be nice to see him around. To know he's okay.

Alastor smiles, pats her head, then shuts the door in her face. He never speaks a word.

But the next day he's downstairs sitting in his favorite chair while she guides Angel Dust through her newest exercise. He just watches and doesn't say a word, but that's normal for him. Charlie's glad to see him supposedly going back to normal. Once the exercises are over, though, Alastor starts to leave without excusing himself like he normally would and Charlie catches him, thanks him for showing his face, tries to strike up a conversation-

Alastor cuts her off with a finger to her lips and walks off. Charlie doesn't know what this means. Is he upset with her? Has she done something wrong? She can't help but be crushed by this apparent rejection.

And Lucifer, who's been watching this whole time, can't stand to see his darling daughter crushed.

So Lucifer goes up to the tacky piece of shit's room, bangs on the door, and demands that Alastor come out and have a word with him. When Alastor refuses to answer the door, he busts it down, earning some radio dial eyes and a black tentacle trying to throw him out of the room. 'Trying' because Lucifer vaporizes it with the snap of his fingers. Lucifer grabs Alastor by the front of his coat and demands to know where he gets the gall to just ignore Charlie like that after claiming to see her as a daughter. The longer Alastor refuses to answer him, the angrier Lucifer gets until he's screaming at Alastor to just open his mouth and talk dammit-

Alastor opens his mouth.

His lips move.

No sound comes out.

That takes the wind out of Lucifer's sails, especially when he sees Alastor's eyes go wide and Alastor's hand flies up to cover his mouth, too late to take back his mistake.

Of course, Lucifer isn't going to keep this to himself, not like he's trying to be a dick or anything, he just wants to reassure Charlie that her (annoying) hotelier isn't ignoring her intentionally and actually can't talk. And Charlie being Charlie want's to figure out a way to solve this problem. So Alastor finds himself roped into Charlie's attempts to 'help.' He makes his displeasure known by glaring daggers at Lucifer the entire while.

I can't work out if Alastor genuinely considered Vox a friend or thought of him more as like. A cute pet that dotes on its owner and does little tricks. And then he shows off his cute little pet to Rosie and Mimzy. I don't think he ever viewed Vox as a threat to him in any way, but it makes me wonder about Vox's whole smooth, smart, scary and competent side we initially see in episode 2. Was that something he picked up from Alastor, or was it something Vox already had that might have sparked Alastor's interest? Did he actually mentor Vox in any way or did he just think it was fun to watch him try to build a tiny version of Alastor's empire.

we don't have a whole lot to go off of right now, especially when it comes to alastor's side, but personally I find it more interesting if alastor did genuinely consider vox a friend. even if in his own alastor fashion, there were probably certain walls he never let down. I think it's interesting in that, we know alastor has more of a soft spot for women, so in this pre-husk era, vox could've easily been one of his first few male friends. which kinda makes it sadder it didn't work out. it's like it just proved to alastor "right this is why I don't trust men".

things we know rn are:

alastor calls vox "old pal" at the end of episode 2

alastor allowed vox to take a picture with him at some point

alastor, who is perfectly capable of killing overlords, has not killed vox

also seen this pointed out before, but in the initial commercial alastor filmed in episode 1, although shitty, he did do some actual editing

I wouldn't expect alastor to already have knowledge of how to do this beforehand on his own, question is: did he learn it himself? or did he learn it...

...from someone else in the past?

not to mention he seems to just instinctively already know how to set up shit for filming near the end of the episode. he must have gotten some experience from somewhere.

I like to think alastor saw him as more than just some cute pet, at least back then. it adds more depth to their relationship. obviously there's stuff like the toxic homoerotic stalker-like obsession I feel is one-sided on vox's part (points to my url), but that doesn't mean I think alastor's side of their general relationship is completely non-existent. them having a genuine past friendship that affected both of them in different ways is what adds layers to their relationship I think. they were clearly both affected by their falling out in that they both developed irrational hatred of the other's medium as a result. and honestly? really need to see more of alastor's side of this, I think it'd be really interesting. even though, he hates vox now, and I don't believe he wants him back as a friend, is there any sort of sentiment left from their past friendship? is there a reason why he hasn't killed him? or was the time he almost beat vox an attempt at that? (though I like to believe it wasn't)

obviously, all we can do now is speculate based on the evidence we have in season 1, but for me personally, I like to think they were legitimately friends at some point.

Time to share my HH AU, I don't essentially have a proper way to describe it, but mostly, a lot of characters go through changes compared to their OG counterparts. Another is that everything is hell is basically greyscale, all black and white, because colors symbolize power and status there.

Charlie isn't willing to let others push her around and could stand her ground.

Vaggie quit her ways as an exorcist to stay and help Charlie with her goal.

Alastor struggles to feel any kind of emotion and longs for the administration the people had for when he was alive.

Vox is seemingly an angelic being that ends up in hell, and everyone is too afraid to tell him what he exactly is.

Angel is essentially juggingly two gigs as a porn star and running the family mafia.

Valentino is a top mafia don with the porn industry, not being his primary business.

Nifty might be more than meets the eye.

Velvette is in charge of a church that serves as a full-blown mockery to God.

Sir Pentious is a full-fledged and very well-known overlord across Pentagram City.

Husk retains his status but is still allied with Alastor.

sometimes tiktok would show me hazbin content and I would just click not interested. then, I see couple of videos of how to cook jambalaya. you know where this goes. all the comments are about "alastor reference?!" "yo alastor from hazbin hotel!" all because alastor briefly said jambalaya in the pilot once.

I know it's farfetched for people to consider this but I keep getting this feeling that Alastor is screaming for help.

Ofc he won't say it or anything but my brain is yelling at me whenever he's on screen. I know it's not entirely known why he's there to help Charlie, but if he made a 'deal' with Charlie and is being true to his word that he didn't take her soul (yet but I pray that's not his true goal) then it feels like this 'favor' might be his way of needing her when he's at his most desperate point.

Look I don't want it to end with Alastor being the one to betray everyone, it scares and hurts me to think that, but I can't help seeing how scared Alastor gets. Or how he does small little things like protect the Egg Bois from certain death by a much more powerful being like Al you had no reason to do that you could have just told everyone the eggs got scrambled by a demon that pissed them off but no THE Radio Demon himself said 'be quiet and you'll live to walk with me and another Overlord'.

The Egg Boys did nothing but annoy Alastor and he was told to get rid of them, albeit humanely, by Vaggie. He has no reason to keep them around but let them go get trampled in a crowd, hit by a car, or die by another demon's hands no he LETS them walk with him despite how irritated he was. Why???

And don't tell me it's bc he knew they'd be useful, bullshit. He was ready to kill them when Vaggie asked him to get rid of them. There is no way he knew one of them would follow him to a meeting full of powerful Overlords.

Alastor isnt a good person, heck he's fucked up and twisted beyond words, but it's hard to ignore the little things he does that make me question if he's evil. It's not always black and white and I don't think it's as simple or as complicated as we make it out to be. Idk I'm rambling sorry

First of all, does he know? Does he care? Is he actually jelous or he takes it as "he is contracted to you, I don't care what you do to him", knowing that Valentino and him have a completely different relationship that has nothing to do with that? Or more likely, he does know, does not care, but because in principle they were never that monogamous in the first place so as long it doesn't interefere with their relationship it doesn't matter?

I for one think it's the last one. At least Valentino is happy to tease Vox about the hate boner he has for Alastor and if he heard Vox does want to fuck him, he would probably only ask to watch in the corner. With a camera. But to watch himself for later.

Alright here's my full (possibly hot) take on redesigning Hazbin Hotel characters and making a video showcasing those redesigns while you criticize the official designs.

First and foremost, you are redesigning someone else's OCs. Hazbin Hotel is, in essence, a passion project for Viv. How she talks about it makes that incredibly clear to me. The only difference between Hazbin Hotel and, for example, the story I'm developing surrounding some of my D&D OCs is that Hazbin Hotel got picked up by a streaming service and is significantly more popular than most passsion projects get.

Personally if someone wanted to redesign my D&D OCs, I wouldn't mind it, in fact I'd probably think it was really cool that someone would want to redesign one of my OCs to be closer to their tastes in terms of what they like to draw. I would, however, be made incredibly uncomfortable if someone made a video redesigning them where they also pointed out everything they thought was wrong with the designs. I didn't design these specific D&D characters to be 1-to-1 accurate to their classes in D&D or to look professionally designed. I designed them how I wanted them to look for the story I'm telling because I don't plan to ever play them in a campaign. The main character Avlan is a paladin, and I can acknowledge that his design might not look exactly like a paladin. One of the tabaxi in the story (Ice) is a bard and the other (Spark) is a ranger, and I acknowledge that their classes might not come across well in their designs. The single tiefling I've designed for this story (Tragedy) is a cleric but might not come off as one in their design. But I specifically designed them to be easy for me to draw because I want to be able to tell this story through my art. Having someone say "oh, Avlan's armor isn't paladin enough!" or "Avlan's fur colors and patterns should be closer to a wild rabbit's because harengon shouldn't be based on domestic rabbit colors!" would fucking hurt (especially because I'm so attached to Avlan, but it would hurt just as much if similar comments were made about Ice, Spark, or Tragedy). I am so passionate about these characters and being told their designs are bad or wrong in some way would be like a stab in the heart, and it would still feel like a stab in the heart if this story ever got a massive fandom behind it. Giving Avlan more complex armor because you think it'd look cool or just want to see what it'd look like? Sure, if I could draw more complex armor I'd give him more complex armor too. Giving him more complex armor but also shitting on the armor I decide to draw him with? My motivation to draw him in his armor, potentially draw him period, would be dead for WEEKS.

Why is it suddenly okay just because someone's passion project was picked up by Amazon Prime? Why is it suddenly okay to be "fixing" someone's character designs just because the project has a much bigger budget than most artists get and is on a popular streaming service? It's not. I don't care if you're a professional character designer, or think a specific character would look better with certain traits, or just don't like the character designs.

Hazbin Hotel is still Vivienne Medrano's passion project, and redesigning her characters and making videos talking about everything you think is "wrong" with them is, honestly, disgusting. You can make videos explaining your choices in your redesigns without putting down the designs that already exist, whether you like them or not. Me thinking Lucifer looks better with his tail not restricted to his full demon form doesn't suddenly mean I don't like his official design, because I fucking love it. If you wouldn't do it to an artist whose passion project is just a webcomic here on Tumblr, don't fucking do it to an artist whose passion project got picked up for a cartoon by a big streaming service (or any company for that matter).

Honestly a part of me thinks that Alastor and Vox WERE really good friends and Alastor is in denial about how important Vox had been to him. Maybe that partially factors into him playing down how much Vox irritates him. And a part of me feels like his love of attention outweighs his annoyance at Vox, even now, since Vox is ALWAYS willing to give Alastor his undivided attention.

the juxtaposition of the vees' verse and alastor's verse being back to back. they're both villain verses, but one is a secure team (maybe a bit messy toxic and unhinged but. they're tight okay) whose members have one another to rely on, the other is a solo mental breakdown about having attachments, yet they both end about the need to eventually be in control and with evil laughter.

like I've seen this mentioned before but also alastor's part in stayed gone where he says "he'd be powerless without the other vees", he's making fun of vox for relying on others but at the same time it does speak volumes about his own view on seeing attachments as "relying on others", because in THIS department, vox has the fact that he's fine and secure having allies he can trust compared to alastor seeing it as a weakness.

we have like sooooo little information right now that anything goes, but I like the idea of alastor having thought of vox as a legitimate friend at least a little. made a post on that once even.

I also kind of like comparing it to like how alastor currently is with charlie/the hotel, like he started out spending time with him for entertainment but then he saw a semblance of sentiment and had to cut that out.

but at the same time I also like alastor stepping away because he started noticing things about vox he disliked (because like I've mentioned before, his insults in stayed gone seem to be legitimate jabs at vox's character/practices).

OR we could have it so that the initial falling out happened because alastor felt the need to cut out any risk of emotional attachments (and I want to STRESS that I see both of them being at fault in this situation, regardless of alastor's motives, vox couldn't take no for an answer and got pissy), but later on after they were split, he started to see parts of vox's attitude that he disliked, how much of a sellout he'd become and he thought in his mind that this only proved him right to cut him off, and so he learnt nothing, after all he was right to cut vox off so surely his idea of attachments being a weakness is completely and utterly correct right?

anyways idk if I got a bit off track here, but about alastor being in denial, I think to some level he would be simply because of him seeing attachments as a weakness. but at the same time he's the one who called vox "old pal" (albeit condescendingly) and vox was the one who got ultra super embarrassed about "he asked me to join his team" (of course this is framed in a mocking way, similarly to "he'd be powerless without the other vees", like "can you BELIEVE he wanted me to join him and start RELYING on him like how he relies on the other vees? HA! as if." but he's also not hiding the fact that they were at least on good enough terms for vox to want to ask him that, but then again he doesn't speak of sentiment on his own side, so it could easily just not count as a point against him downplaying it). but yeah um. I do think him downplaying shit is related to him hiding weaknesses, similarly to how he's always smiling. he downplays how much vox bothers him because showing so would be a weakness. which could also go into how he let that mask slip with lucifer but this post is getting LONG and others have pointed that out before.

and the other part, about alastor's love for attention outweighing his annoyance at vox? I mean I think both can be true, I do think he enjoys the attention he gets from vox's obsession but I do also think he does legitimately hate vox.

Of course they can get their tubes tied! Keep in mind that I'm not a good example of the magical capabilities of succubi—most have some magical proficiency, but on average they're quite a bit more beholden to basical fleshly biology than I am. And even I can be impacted by medicine and surgery.

It's possible the procedure itself uses magic—I don't know, I haven't looked into the details. All I know is it is possible.

The Antichrist's mother is supposed to be a human, so I'm afraid that ship's already sailed—although I suppose that doesn't rule out the possibility I could be asked to help sire him. But no, that's not what I meant!

You see, the fertility rate among demons is much lower than it is among living humans. From imps to fallen angels, you have couples who would just love to raise children but can't.

One of the few exceptions are succubi. Between their average libido and their general job opportunities, as you might imagine, they collectively produce more children than they know what to do with. There's a waiting list a mile long of prospective imp parents who would be delighted to adopt a bouncing baby cambion. If you've ever seen an imp with wings, the odds are better than not that either he's a cambion or one of his parents was.

And higher-ranked demons who desire an heir but lack a fertile partner love hiring succubi as surrogates and sires. And those are the people who decide who gets promotions.

Not to say they hire for every position based on fertility—but if you're a forward-thinking lord who might want a family someday, looking to fill a mid-level government posting, with two equally-qualified succubi candidates, who are you going to hire? The one who's medically declared he'll never be willing to help out with your personal goals... or the one who's left the possibility open? And the first candidate doesn't look very civic-minded, does he, tying his tubes when there are so many unfortunate couples eager to adopt. And what if he changes his mind someday? Perhaps such a selfish, short-sighted fellow isn't deserving of this posting after all.

You see how quickly the deck stacks against sterilization.

In Hell, Doctor-patient confidentiality is more of a suggestion than a guarantee; if a powerful enough figure really wants to know what's in your medical record, he can go find out. And you'd be surprised how many demons are mind-readers!
