Some people unfortunately may pretend to care for you, when they really don’t. So, be picky with your circle of people. Take the time to find positive and caring friends. As Jennie says in her song Zen, “Money cannot buy no real friends.”

3. Know that you’re one of a kind!! No one is like you. No matter how hard someone tries, they can’t be you. You’re the only you, own it. Be your absolute best and authentic self. And don’t let anyone tell you, that your someone your not.

Alexa Shepard Personality/Additional Background

I’ve been wanting to talk about my Shep’s history etc for a while so here’s a little more personal stuff about Alexa :)

Alexa is a pretty private person, but she isn’t really closed off per se. In fact she’s pretty open about her life if asked, which gives people the impression that they know her better than they actually do. For example, she’ll gladly talk about her parents, her life on Mindoir, just not about the attack or the aftermath. She isn’t really bothered by people asking about Akuze; she can talk about the chronological events that happened, she just doesn’t go into detail about the friends she lost or how she felt during it. 

One of her biggest hangups is letting people get close; after losing her parents and almost all of her friends on Mindoir, she struggled during the rest of her schooling to make new friends. When she joined the Alliance, she loved the sense of camaraderie, of people from super diverse backgrounds all working together to protect the frontier. She was among a lot of like minded people and with time, she made friends again. I headcanon that she requested to be stationed on colonies at first; she joined the Alliance because she wanted to help protect small frontier colonies like Mindoir. However, because of her biotics and her leadership potential, she was promoted to the fleet within a couple years. 

Akuze happened right after Alexa had been promoted during the Blitz. Losing her entire unit, dozens of her friends, especially under her command nearly broke her. She spent a month or two on medical leave, during which time she attended mandatory therapy via the Alliance. Afterwards, she threw herself into her work completely, determined to not let something like Akuze happen under her command again. She was a little more ��hardened” after Akuze, and is very protective of her team as a result. 

As for her alignment, she is a very pragmatic paragade. She has a tough exterior, and she definitely has her walls up, but at her core she is a little sensitive and cares a lot about her friends and comrades. She can be stubborn and bullheaded; once she decides on a course of action, she commits fully. She doesn’t make choices lightly and she is very sure of herself most of the time. Alexa also has a bit of a temper, and she has absolutely no patience or sympathy for people who attack vulnerable or innocent people. For example in ME1, she agrees w/ Garrus about Dr. Saleon and not taking Saren in alive; she believes (to an extent) that the harm they’ve done/could do is too great to risk them escaping. She also sacrifices the hostages on X57 to stop Balak. Her reasoning is that letting him go would result in a lot more deaths down the line—deaths that she would feel responsible for. 

Her character arc in ME1 is mostly about her gaining confidence with being in command of her own ship and letting herself open up to her crew, particularly Ash, Garrus, and Liara.

I’m also working on writing little blurbs for her relationship w/ the core members of the crew and how they evolve through ME1 and the series that I might post if I finish them😅

You know…I’m not so sure she does anymore.

I, uh…apologized to her for blowing up the other day, but…yeah, well…

I mean, I woke up the next morning and reread what I wrote, and I realized that I blew some stuff out of proportion and took some things personally and wasn’t very nice—okay, I was kind of mean—but isn’t that kind of normal for me?—and I told her so, and I said I was sorry, but…

She told me I was a difficult person.

My mom has said I was a difficult baby. And that I was a difficult toddler, and a difficult kid, and a difficult teenager. So is it any wonder that I grew up to be a difficult guy?

“People can choose to change, you know,” Fannie said, then shook her head kind of sadly. “But Ben…why did you say that I would always be a better person than you? I wasn’t born a better person. Choosing to make good decisions, choosing the light, is something I work at every day. And I just feel that, if you have this sort of view that I’ll always be better than you…perhaps you’re not very interested in growing as a person, and…as much as I love you—even though I love you so much, it hurts—I could never…” Twin tears rolled down her cheeks. “I could never be with someone who chooses not to grow.”

I was stunned. But also, not fully surprised. Because it was kind of insane to think that anyone would have ever loved me like that to begin with.

I looked her in the eyes. “So…love is never really unconditional,” I said. “People say it is, but…it’s not. Right?”

She sighed and wiped her face.

“Ben…I will always love you with the unconditional love that I have for all, for the Force flows through all,” Fannie said. As if she’d practiced that specific sentence a dozen times. “And of course I will always cherish you as one of my dearest friends. But…my choice to be with you—to be with you like this—is very conditional. As it ought to be.”

“You told me that you don’t believe in divorce,” I countered. “That if you ever got married, you wouldn’t end things, no matter what.”

“Which is why I must be extremely careful about who I choose to date, and who I choose to marry,” she replied.

I felt my heart rate go up. My arms started tingling. I began to feel like I was mere moments away from losing something very important.

“Fan…you started all of this,” I said. “You chose me. You knew who I was. You knew what I’m like. You said you loved me with all of my flaws. All my issues.”

“And I do. I do love you, even with all your issues. But I would not have you hold onto them and never grow out of them. It’s okay that you’re not perfect. You’ll never be. I’ll never be. But it’s important to me that you’re trying.”

“You think I don’t try?”

“You tell me,” she said softly. “Are you trying? Do you seek the light within yourself? Do you work to bring balance inside of you?”

She blinked, and bit her lip a little. And I realized she wasn’t trying to challenge me—she was actually asking. Hoping I’d have some kind of emphatic answer in the affirmative. Trying to convince herself that there was hope for me—hope for us.

I couldn’t say anything. A fathier in the headlights. Because…I knew the answer to her question, and…I knew it wasn’t good.

The silence dragged on. And each second spelled doom.

“…Well,” I said at last. My throat felt dry. “You’re right, Fan. We’ll always be friends. And, speaking as your friend…you probably shouldn’t even consider being with a loser like me.”

“Ben…that’s not what I…”

But I ended the call. Because my head was full. Because my hands were shaking. Because I was scared what she was gonna say to me. Because suddenly I was five and my parents were gonna leave me at Jedi school forever. Suddenly I was twelve and I was crying myself to sleep in the dark. Suddenly I was seventeen and Snoke had removed his presence from me and abandoned me to die. And now I was twenty-three, and everything was just the same as it had ever been, and I knew I would always be alone…

Then I tracked down Poe and convinced him to down a couple beers with me and play Podracing Simulator till 1am (which took no convincing at all, him being Poe) because I was desperately trying to rot my brain outta my skull.

I signed for a loan yesterday. I'm moving into the dorms at my university in August. I turn 20 the month after that. I recently had to give up on my acting dreams for like the fifth time. My older brother just received a scholarship for a prestigious theater school that is normally only meant for high school seniors. The board unanimously voted to break the rules for him. One time he got a role just for showing up. He's still convinced I'm just not trying hard enough. I'm thinking of majoring in nursing.

Interactive mouthpiece opens new opportunities for health data, assistive technology, and hands-free interactions

When you think about hands-free devices, you might picture Alexa and other voice-activated in-home assistants, Bluetooth earpieces, or asking Siri to make a phone call in your car. You might not imagine using your mouth to communicate with other devices like a computer or a phone remotely. 

Thinking outside the box, MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) and Aarhus University researchers have now engineered “MouthIO,” a dental brace that can be fabricated with sensors and feedback components to capture in-mouth interactions and data. This interactive wearable could eventually assist dentists and other doctors with collecting health data and help motor-impaired individuals interact with a phone, computer, or fitness tracker using their mouths.

Resembling an electronic retainer, MouthIO is a see-through brace that fits the specifications of your upper or lower set of teeth from a scan. The researchers created a plugin for the modeling software Blender to help users tailor the device to fit a dental scan, where you can then 3D print your design in dental resin. This computer-aided design tool allows users to digitally customize a panel (called PCB housing) on the side to integrate electronic components like batteries, sensors (including detectors for temperature and acceleration, as well as tongue-touch sensors), and actuators (like vibration motors and LEDs for feedback). You can also place small electronics outside of the PCB housing on individual teeth.

The active mouth

“The mouth is a really interesting place for an interactive wearable and can open up many opportunities, but has remained largely unexplored due to its complexity,” says senior author Michael Wessely, a former CSAIL postdoc and senior author on a paper about MouthIO who is now an assistant professor at Aarhus University. “This compact, humid environment has elaborate geometries, making it hard to build a wearable interface to place inside. With MouthIO, though, we’ve developed a new kind of device that’s comfortable, safe, and almost invisible to others. Dentists and other doctors are eager about MouthIO for its potential to provide new health insights, tracking things like teeth grinding and potentially bacteria in your saliva.”

The excitement for MouthIO’s potential in health monitoring stems from initial experiments. The team found that their device could track bruxism (the habit of grinding teeth) by embedding an accelerometer within the brace to track jaw movements. When attached to the lower set of teeth, MouthIO detected when users grind and bite, with the data charted to show how often users did each.

Wessely and his colleagues’ customizable brace could one day help users with motor impairments, too. The team connected small touchpads to MouthIO, helping detect when a user’s tongue taps their teeth. These interactions could be sent via Bluetooth to scroll across a webpage, for example, allowing the tongue to act as a “third hand” to open up a new avenue for hands-free interaction.

“MouthIO is a great example how miniature electronics now allow us to integrate sensing into a broad range of everyday interactions,” says study co-author Stefanie Mueller, the TIBCO Career Development Associate Professor in the MIT departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering and leader of the HCI Engineering Group at CSAIL. “I’m especially excited about the potential to help improve accessibility and track potential health issues among users.”

Molding and making MouthIO

To get a 3D model of your teeth, you can first create a physical impression and fill it with plaster. You can then scan your mold with a mobile app like Polycam and upload that to Blender. Using the researchers’ plugin within this program, you can clean up your dental scan to outline a precise brace design. Finally, you 3D print your digital creation in clear dental resin, where the electronic components can then be soldered on. Users can create a standard brace that covers their teeth, or opt for an “open-bite” design within their Blender plugin. The latter fits more like open-finger gloves, exposing the tips of your teeth, which helps users avoid lisping and talk naturally.

This “do it yourself” method costs roughly $15 to produce and takes two hours to be 3D-printed. MouthIO can also be fabricated with a more expensive, professional-level teeth scanner similar to what dentists and orthodontists use, which is faster and less labor-intensive.

Compared to its closed counterpart, which fully covers your teeth, the researchers view the open-bite design as a more comfortable option. The team preferred to use it for beverage monitoring experiments, where they fabricated a brace capable of alerting users when a drink was too hot. This iteration of MouthIO had a temperature sensor and a monitor embedded within the PCB housing that vibrated when a drink exceeded 65 degrees Celsius (or 149 degrees Fahrenheit). This could help individuals with mouth numbness better understand what they’re consuming.

In a user study, participants also preferred the open-bite version of MouthIO. “We found that our device could be suitable for everyday use in the future,” says study lead author and Aarhus University PhD student Yijing Jiang. “Since the tongue can touch the front teeth in our open-bite design, users don’t have a lisp. This made users feel more comfortable wearing the device during extended periods with breaks, similar to how people use retainers.”

The team’s initial findings indicate that MouthIO is a cost-effective, accessible, and customizable interface, and the team is working on a more long-term study to evaluate its viability further. They’re looking to improve its design, including experimenting with more flexible materials, and placing it in other parts of the mouth, like the cheek and the palate. Among these ideas, the researchers have already prototyped two new designs for MouthIO: a single-sided brace for even higher comfort when wearing MouthIO while also being fully invisible to others, and another fully capable of wireless charging and communication.

Jiang, Mueller, and Wessely’s co-authors include PhD student Julia Kleinau, master’s student Till Max Eckroth, and associate professor Eve Hoggan, all of Aarhus University. Their work was supported by a Novo Nordisk Foundation grant and was presented at ACM’s Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology.

Learn to say no. Any situation that you are uncomfortable in or don’t want to do something. SAY NO! It’s not rude to say no. What is rude is someone forcing you into something you don’t want to do. If it helps you can even say “no, thank you.” You’re still saying no but in a nicer form.

2. “If they don’t know you personally, don’t take it personal.” Why take a comment from someone personally? Do they know you, the REAL you. In fact, do you even know the real you? If they don’t, then don’t take it personally. Their comments aren’t going to matter when you’re living your dream life. It won’t matter in 10 years. So, don’t spend 10 seconds thinking about it.

3. Don’t allow disrespect! Would you let your (future) daughter get disrespected? I don’t think so. Therefore don’t allow yourself to get disrespected. If people are making your uncomfortable, let them know! If people are making comments about you, stand up for yourself. If you don’t want to do any of those, then walk away. NEVER let ANYONE disrespect you.

4. Altogether you need self respect! In order to do most of these, you need self respect. Self respect will help you overcome a lot of obstacles. Self respect is a strong aspect of your life. It’s not just a feeling or belief, it’s a skill. Not everyone has or can have strong self respect. The first step to self respect is work on your low self-esteem. That, is if you have self-esteem. Nevertheless, working on yourself in general is something you won’t regret! I recommend you watch self-development Youtubers. My favorites are Tam Kaur, TheWizardLiz, Simonesimmo, Persephonesmind, Lana Blakely, etc

5. Think of your haters as fans! Haters are truly your biggest fans. Whether they like it or not they are. They hate, hate, hate, and hate but they are still watching. They are still commenting on your every move. They still try to bring you down to feel good about themselves. All they are, is jealous fans.

EDIT: this is very messed up writing and i apologize deeply my mind isnt clear and im not sure to post this but at least i want to archive it somewhat.

tw this is half ruined king canon but i also sprinkled my hcs and i dont feel on my best so this is going to be probably messy writing but;

Ruined King had these arcs/mini arcs centered on the main cast, Miss Fortune's search for Gangplank and how this affects the whole rythm of the events, Illaoi's doubt of her own religion and her actions regarding both Gangplank and Sarah, Ahri's search for her roots as a Vesani in the Shadow Isles, Yasuo's arc in dragon island, Braum having to find a cure for a disease (wasnt a very much explored arc, sadly), however Pyke feels not have an explicit arc even if he has a post-credit scene but there's no real ground to stand on. But:

The whole Nagakabouros thing and the conversations about the buhru with Illaoi and how he answers to her might be showing more than we see at first sight, at least for me. Because why would he, not part of the buhru anymore, with his own marked path and a whole experience of trauma and betrayal, be interested or at least thoughtful about if he's worthy or not to a goddess of a religion he's not a part of anymore?

As for what we know, Pyke's father is a freljordian or a noxian, wich in the whole context of Bilgewater (navigation/hunting/fishing/comercial interests) makes me rather think that he was an absent figure, and that his mother was a buhru from the Serpent Isles. Considering also that Pyke uses a buhru harpoon hunting style yet he doesnt consider himself part of the buhru anymore, raises some eyebrows. The fact that he was also a butcher on the Slaughter Docks from starters also makes me question some things.

Here's my thought, and again this is headcanon, but im also putting up questions about the lore. As we know Illaoi was prepared to become the priestess from a young age by the buhru elder in Ruined King, this makes me think that maybe Pyke had an assigned role/job within the buhru that wasnt related to hunting, probably from the buhru themselves, probably by his mother, etc. Its probable that Pyke was interested in hunting and sea creatures, and really wanted a role, maybe he was so interested that he got closer to the buhru who worked as hunters to learn. However his change of role is always denied, and maybe is because this preassure of being worthy. As we have also seen in Ruined King, not all buhru are worthy of Nagakabouros, and not being worthy might lead to death itself. Maybe even if he wanted so badly to change his role he couldnt, perhaps his family was ''protecting'' him trying to make him do everything right according to the plan so he could be worthy.

Its stated that Pyke was young when he started to work as a butcher on the Slaughter Docks (you put an age number as you wish). Probably and years before that, prooobably being a teenager, he was even more persistant on wanting to become a hunter, maybe he was denied again, maybe he threw a tantrum, but what i believe is that he either ran away from the buhru, or that he was kicked out for refusing his role before he could even know if he was worthy or not, and thats when the rest of the story we know starts.

What im trying to explain with this is that, there must be some deep in the relation that Pyke has with the buhru, Illaoi and Nagakabouros. He seems reluctant everytime Illaoi brings up the buhru or to help them with monster/ocean creature info. However, that one 'I am worthy' before we see Nagakabouros efigy feels so solemn. Maybe thats a way of proving himself he was in the right. Maybe it was a 'fuck you' to his whole family. Maybe it was a 'im sorry you couldnt see what i have become'. I dont know. But it means something.

First character I create an image for that y'all gonna see for Heel Shift is gonna be Alexa Gunney, cuz while I got more thoughts about Wally and the Fangs Family, I want to solidify my workflow before committing to telling that story. That plot's very important to me.

I'm not designing Gunney with this in-mind specifically, but I'll know I've succeeded in her design if I manage to make lesbians hauve covid about it.

Gunney, a former MMA fighter who's moved to pro-wrestling, and has now crowned herself as "The Saint of Pro-Wrestling". Her promos a mix between the preaching of Bray Wyatt and the radical messaging of Seth Rollins. She is a fire, that will take the LWF by storm, and spark the spirit of wrestling back to life like a veritable Phoenix.

(I'm not sure if Gunney is gonna be a Heel or a Face yet, but she's gonna definitely be fun)
