The Best Sources of Omega-3s: Fish vs. Algae vs. Walnuts. The Essential Nutrient for Heart Health, Brain Health, and More
Tumblr media
Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of polyunsaturated fat that is essential for human health. They play a role in brain development, heart health, and inflammation reduction. The two most important omega-3 fatty acids are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
EPA and DHA are found in fish, shellfish, algae, and some plant oils. Walnuts are the only plant food that contains a significant amount of ALA, which the body can convert to EPA and DHA. However, the conversion rate is low, so you need to eat more walnuts than fish or algae to get the same amount of EPA and DHA.
Tumblr media
EPA and DHA have been shown to have a number of health benefits, including:
* Reducing inflammation
* Improving heart health
* Protecting against cognitive decline
* Promoting brain development in children
* Reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and depression
* Supporting eye health
* Reducing joint pain
The American Heart Association recommends that adults eat two servings of fish per week, especially fatty fish such as salmon, tuna, mackerel, sardines, and herring. These fish are good sources of EPA and DHA.
If you are vegetarian or vegan, you can get EPA and DHA from algae supplements. Algae are a type of marine plant that is rich in EPA and DHA. Algae supplements are available in capsule, powder, and liquid form.
Walnuts are a good source of ALA, which the body can convert to EPA and DHA. However, the conversion rate is low, so you need to eat a lot of walnuts to get the same amount of EPA and DHA as you would from fish or algae.
Tumblr media
Here are some tips for getting more omega-3 fatty acids in your diet:
* Eat two servings of fish per week, especially fatty fish such as salmon, tuna, mackerel, sardines, and herring.
* Take an algae supplement if you are vegetarian or vegan.
* Add walnuts to your diet.
* Choose plant oils that are high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as flaxseed oil and canola oil.
* Avoid processed foods, which are often high in unhealthy fats and low in omega-3 fatty acids.
Omega-3 fatty acids are essential nutrients that have many health benefits. The best sources of omega-3s are fish, algae, and walnuts. However, the types of omega-3s found in these foods are not the same. The omega-3s found in fish and algae are more active and have more health benefits than the omega-3s found in walnuts. If you are looking for the best sources of EPA and DHA, fish and algae are the way to go. However, if you are vegetarian or vegan, walnuts are a good source of ALA.

Substrate test (replacing Manado with Wurth absorbent) part 1:
Background (a.k.a. wtf is that idiot really going to put an industrial absorbing product to their tank?!)
Those who have been following planted tank forums are probably well familiar with discussion on substrates and CEC (cation exchange capacity). I won’t summarize further than to mention that the measured CEC results were and still are of interest. From my part, Turface and its (claimed) similarity with Safe-T-Sorb (an absorbent product used as a substrate in US aquarists) was of extra spechuul interest.
Safe-T-Sorb is a calcined clay-based absorbent intended for absorbing oils, waters and such. It is granular, cheap as dirt and (probably) has a good CEC.
The reason I didn’t buy it: I live in Europe (Finland) and couldn’t find a place to buy it. Online shops didn’t ship, so RIP my Safe-T-Sorb tank.
Which brought me (back) to the cat litter route. Cheap, high CEC… Perfumes and such are not great, and actual contents of the product may be difficult to find/confirm.
But in my attempt to find a Safe-T-Sorb-type sorbent under a different name, I had stumbled upon a product called Würth absorber. It is an absorbent product much like Safe-T-Sorb, but made of calcined moler clay – and moler clay is the material the “good” cat litter is made from.
Further investigation of SDS of the product didn’t reveal anything alarming. It actually mentioned that the product contains only calcined moler clay. Some key number mentioned were pH (6), bulk density (500 g/m3) and relative density 2.3 g/m3. The SDS goes on and on about how to product looks (pink and granular), but the “pink” is actually reddish gray and relatively natural. Handfeel of the material is relatively soft and the granules are roundish.
Tumblr media
(The unit of the ruler is cm, btw)
Looking good this far.
But, what is moler clay?
According to English Wikipedia [22.5.2021], a common makeup is 80–90% silicon, 2–4% aluminium and 0.5–2% iron oxide.
In my original test report in Finnish I went on about amorphous vs. crystalline silica but I’ll summarize with a comment that quartz sand is commonly sold to be used in aquariums, and I’ve never seen any concerns about its safety for the fish, spare potential sharpness, although some blame silica-containing rocks/materials for algae problems. I have no further knowledge on this, but silica is actually super common material in sands, so I find myself not spooked. Aluminium, too, is a common element in clay minerals often used in aquariums, so it’s still looking good.
Iron, however, initially spooked me a bit. It’s oxide, so chemically reasonably stable, but the magnet tests shows that some of the granules attach on a magnet. This is a test I was taught to use to test if a material is good for aquarium or not (rocks attaching to the magnet being the unsuitable ones).
But! The exact same has been reported for Manado!
“And as others have mentioned some of it is magnetic. If you use a magnetic algae scraper like me and it falls off into the Manado you'll have two mounds of it stuck to the ends of the magnet. Another cleaning chore” [23.5.2021, L. Madder in Amazon]
And yes! Yes, it’s true, the Manado I had purchased partially sticks to my magnets! The commercial substrate, the substrate I paid real money for, doesn’t pass the magnet test!
The magnet test is probably fake news from prehistorical times, so I won’t give up because of that. The substrate test shall continue!
Pre-test
Those who have used cat litter report that water hardness goes up up up up – which happened when I put a handful of the (washed) absorbent into a glass jar filled with tap water.
That did happen, but when I kept changing the water, the situation stabilized relatively fast. The physical appearance of the granules was not affected, meaning they held their shape and size, when kept in water for a couple of months. When I’m writing this, the preliminary test granules have been soaking for about 3 months, a bit more perhaps, and their physical appearance is still the same with the one they started in.
The actual test
I’ve been comparing some key water parameters (pH, NO3, NO2, KH, GH, Fe) of buckets of soaked Manado and Wurth. The test has been going on about a month now. Stay tuned for the next part!

Plant Fertilizer
Planting Guides
DIY SOIL MIX
Hey all, I know it’s been a while but I’m trying to continue my informational posts on plants and gardening. In this post I’ll be talking about my go-to fertilizer for everything, fish emulsion. But before I get into it, let’s look at the basic information regarding fertilizers.
Tumblr media
What are fertilizers and why are they used?
Fertilizers are any organic or synthetic material that’s added to the soil of a plant to supplement its growth. The use of fertilizers vary by fertilizer type and can help plants in any way from leafy growth, fruit and flower development, or just growing healthy roots.
Fertilizers are made up of both macro (large) and micro (small) nutrients. There are three macro nutrients; Nitrogen, Phosphorous, and Potassium. These are the main nutrients that make up most fertilizers and what this post will be focusing on. As for micro nutrients, some examples are things like Calcium, Chlorine, Boron, Iron, Zinc, etc. While micro-nutrients also help in plant development, their roles are not as prominent as the three macros.
Now let’s look at how to read fertilizer labels to determine what their use is.
N:P:K Ratio
What does it mean?
This formula refers to the macro-nutrients mentioned above and the amount of each present in a product in terms of percentages. (Ex: 1:2:3 = 1% Nitrogen, 2% Phosphorous, 3% Potassium). Every fertilizer will come with this three symbol formula. Once you understand what each supplement benefits, you can figure out how that fertilizer will benefit your plant.
Tumblr media
Nitrogen (N)
Promotes leafy growth, giving you big bushy plants with healthy leaves. Good for plants where leaves are the main attraction. Ex: Indoor plants, herbs, veggies like spinach, bokchoy or lettuce.
Tumblr media
Phosphorus (P)
Encourages flower production/longevity and consequently fruit setting as fruits grow from pollinated flowers. Ex: any decorative flowering plant, tomatoes, strawberries, fruit trees.
Tumblr media
Potassium (K)
Controls root growth, the base which all other macro and micro-nutrients are absorbed. The stronger and more stable the root system, the healthier your plant will be.
Using this information, here are some examples on how to read these ratios.
2:7:1
2% Nitrogen, 6% Phosphorous, 1% Potassium
Phosphorous primary, Nitrogen, secondary, Potassium third
Good for flowers and blooms, with some extra feed for leaves.
5:4:5
5% Nitrogen, 4% Phosphorous, 5% Potassium
Nitrogen and Potassium equal, Phosphorous secondary
Pretty balanced across the board
35:6:0
25% Nitrogen, 6% Phosphorous, 0% Potassium
Nitrogen primary, Phosphorous secondary, no Potassium
You’re growing a rainforest
Alright, all technical stuff aside, let’s get to the main subject of this post.
FISH EMULSON
What is it?
Fish emulsion is an organic liquid fertilizer made from fish. It’s composed of the leftover parts of fish (heads, bones, fins, etc) from a commercial harvest, as well as unwanted bycatch. The mixture is boiled and processed where the oil and bones are separated and turned into fish oil, bone meals, and pet food. The left over liquid then becomes fish emulsion. It’s a concentrated and highly nutritious feed for plants, and also smells awful.
What does it do?
It’s rich in all three macro-nutrients but also contains some micro-nutrients as well. This makes it a great all-purpose fertilizer that benefits your plants beyond just the three main supplements.
Aside from its nutritional value, fish emulsion also houses a good amount of biological life. As I mentioned in my DIY soil post, it’s important to think of soil as a living creature rather than just lifeless dirt. The bacteria within fish emulsion helps add to the microbial life within your soil. This increases the complexity and vitality of your soil, ultimately creating a diverse community of microbial life that grows with and benefits your plants.
It’s also a great way to start seedlings and help new transplants (newly planted greens) to settle in. I always water seeds and new transplants first thing with emulsion instead of water. Emulsion is a great way to activate the soil covering seeds, resulting in more successful seedlings and a dependable sprouting time. Transplant shock also seems to be reduced as plants show little sign of stress and start growing shortly after the initial planting.
Emulsion vs. other fertilizers
The problem with other fertilizers like granular and synthetic is that they’re resource hogs, are pollutants, and may kill your plants if used improperly. These types of fertilizers require a high amount of energy and resources to produce. The production process and resulting waste is damaging to the environment. The runoff from these also pose a threat to the waterways. Problems like contamination to the aquifer, algae blooms and dead-zones are known to happen from fertilizer runoff. And as these fertilizers are very potent, they run the risk of damaging your plants. Permanent stunted growth or death from burnt roots can result from excessive use or poorly measured applications.
Emulsion on the other hand doesn’t have these same problems. As emulsion is made from the cooking of the trash parts of fish, the resources required is not as demanding. All parts of the fish are used as the liquid is separated from oil and bones, the latter two also being used used. Emulsion is very mild and does not risk contaminating the water table. Its mildness also makes it very easy on plants, leaving very little to no risk of burning plants. And when combined with other soil amendments (which I’ll go into in another post sometime), it eliminates the need for various types of fertilizer. In other words, you won’t need a dozen separate fertilizer bags for indoors, flowers, herbs, veggies, etc.
Personally, I use fish emulsion on everything from flowers, vegetables, indoors, to succulents. Combined with my soil mix and other amendments, I’ve had great success with fish emulsion and always recommend it. Any issues I have with it mainly concerns the use of bycatch and larger concerns of overfishing. That and the smell - don’t ever open this in your house unless you hate yourself.
Tumblr media
How to use
Application amount varies according to brand, so always check the label before use. However, general rule of thumb seems to be:
2 Tablespoons Fish Emulsion
1 Gallon Water
Add the emulsion to water and mix well. And that’s it. You can now use this mixture to water and feed your plants. You can use this anytime during the growing season when your plants are active. Here is my personal schedule using emulsion and the feeding habits I’ve noted according to plant type and watering habits:
Heavy feeders and drinkers
Veggies - twice a week
Flowers and perennials - once a week to twice, depending on flower
Medium feeders and drinkers
Indoors - once to twice a month, depending on water needs and being careful not to overwater
Light feeders and drinkers
Succulents - once a month or every two months
Tumblr media
This is just my personal experience to give you an idea on how to feed your plants. Your habits may vary depending on where you live and your plant setup - Southern California, climate zone 9-10 here.
Last words, I have read about another fertilizer called fish hydrolysate. It works the same as emulsion but the production process is different. Where emulsion is heat treated and oils removed, hydrolysate is cold pressed and oils are used. It retains more nutrients than emulsion and supposedly smells better. I have yet to use this fertilizer but will write on it when I do. Until then, I can only recommend fish emulsion as an easy all-purpose fertilizer.
Happy planting

Udo’s Choice® Ultimate Oil Blend
Tumblr media
Certified organic, Udo's Oil is a seed oil formulated to contains the perfect ratio of 2:1 of Omega 3 and 6. What's more, it's the richest vegan source of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids available in Ireland. These essential fatty acids play a key role in many functions including heart, brain and vision health to help you look and feel amazing, inside and out. How much Udo’s Oil should I take? We recommend one dessertspoon for every 25kg of body weight per day to get optimum benefit. It’s best to start with one spoon and build up to your optimum amount. A small number of people can feel a little nausea as the body adjusts, so if this happens, reduce the amount you take and build up gradually.  Most people need a little more in winter than summer. Can the oil be added to hot foods?  Yes, steamed veggies, baked potatoes, soups, etc, but after they are served. Can I stir-fry with the oil? Please do not do this. Heat damages the properties of the oil so you will lose all the wonderful benefits. It is no problem to add the oil to warm food once it has been served. How long can Udo's Oil be left out of the fridge? Our instruction is to make sure it is stored in the fridge. Stability tests have shown that there is no change/loss in stability for 3 days out of fridge. To get the longest life for the oil, this needs to be in the fridge.  What is the shelf life of Udo's Oil? Unopened - 12 months if refrigerated, up to 2 years if frozen and 8 weeks once opened. What is the difference between the capsules and the liquid oil? You need to take a lot more tablets for the same benefits. It takes 14 capsules to give you 1 tbsp of the liquid oil. The capsules are for convenience and travelling. Can I take Udo's Oil while Pregnant and Breastfeeding? Yes, firstly because Udo’s Oil does not contain either Vitamin A or D. Secondly, EFA’s are required by infants for proper brain development, particularly between the third trimester of pregnancy and 18 months of age. Pregnant women can become quite deficient in EFA’s as the foetus draw these from the mother. As well as the possibility of being physically depleted, this can have a knock-on effect on your mood during the challenging childrearing days. The addition of sufficient EFA’s to a mother’s diet is known to alleviate post-natal depression and stress. Supplementation with Udo’s Oil while pregnant and breastfeeding will ensure that both, mother and baby, receive sufficient EFA’s. Another great benefit is to your skin – lubricated skin is more elastic, less likely to tear or create stretch marks and returns more easily to its former tautness. How much Udo’s Oil should a woman take while nursing? The recommendation for pregnant women and new mothers is 1 tablespoon per 25kg of weight. While pregnant, as your weight increases with the growth of the baby, your need for essential fats will increase.  Will the Udo’s Oil a nursing mother ingests affect the baby’s digestion? Not usually; these essential fats are required throughout infancy and beyond. Is Udo's Oil suitable for children and babies? Yes, Udo’s Oil can be given to babies over six months old, preferably mixed in food instead of off the spoon, starting with a teaspoonful, and increase with age as follows: 1-3 years - 2 tsp 3-10 years - 1 Tbsp 10 yrs and up - the full 2 Tbsp How do I know I’m getting the right amount? Your body is intelligent. It knows its own hierarchy when it comes to your health and prioritises your most vital organs. Heart and Brain are high on the list and will be first to take what they need from your oil. After your vital organs and glands are satisfied then come your joints and all soft tissue. Next, your skin, the outermost organ. When you feel your skin becoming smooth and velvety soft, then you can be sure the rest of the vital cells everywhere in your body are getting the optimum amount of Udo’s Oil. You’ll feel the difference. Why is the ratio of Omegas we take so important? Dr Udo Erasmus spent 15 years experimenting on getting the most beneficial ratio of Omegas we require daily. For example, he found that using Flax seed oil (linseed) alone, which is very rich in Omega 3 but low in Omega 6 can lead to dry eyes, painful finger joints, fragile skin and skipped heartbeats and lowered immune function. These are the symptoms of Omega 6 deficiency as they are crowded out by the Omega 3’s. Too much of a good thing! Long years of experience led Udo to blend a combination of oils which give you Omega 3:6:9 in a ratio of 2:1:1. He has reliably found this to be the most effective and beneficial blend. Is Udo’s Oil considered a raw food? Yes it is. Minimal heat is involved in its pressing, no enzymes are destroyed and it is not pasteurised at all. Can Coeliacs take Udo’s Oil?  Is it gluten free? Yes – because the oil does not contain any gluten from oats, it remains behind in the seed cake after the oil has been separated. Is Udo's Oil suitable for diabetics and will it interfere with the pill/blood thinning medication/other medication? Diabetics and people taking the blood thinning agent Warfarin may need to monitor their requirement for the medication more frequently. Omega 3′s in particular are useful for thinning the blood – this will not happen overnight, but rather over a period of time. EFA’s also help to lower the glycemic index of foods which may reduce the requirement for insulin –  again, this must be monitored by a GP and will not occur overnight. Does Udo's Oil lower Cholesterol? How long will it take? Omegas alone can help lower cholesterol, but only slightly. It’s phytosterols that block absorption and re-absorption of cholesterol from the gut, lowering levels by up to 25%. Unlike most other supplementary oils, Udo’s Oil contains a rich 65mg per tablespoon, an ample amount to help balance your cholesterol levels. The length of time it takes to notice results depends on your starting level but is usually 3-4 months.  It’s high in fat, will it make me fat? Is it ok for my heart? The oil blend has a reputation for reducing weight, particularly if related to fluid retention. EFA’s slow down digestion (a good thing) so we absorb more from the foods we eat. Udo recommends the oil is best taken with green foods as we will absorb more nutrients. If, however, the oil is taken together with carbohydrates, starches and sugars, we will absorb more and may increase weight rather than reduce weight. The golden rule is – take with green foods to reduce weight, or take with carbohydrates and starch to help gain weight. The fats in Udo’s Choice are the good fats which increase bad fat burn-off, which is good for both, heart and waistline. EPA/DHA: Is Udo’s Oil a source of EPA and DHA? The traditional source of EPA and DHA is from the oils of cold water fish and marine animals. Among land animals it comes from the brain and glandular tissues. Modern scientific research has found out that these oils deteriorate very rapidly after an animal dies!! These two fatty acids are manufactured in the animal body - and in human bodies - from Omega-3. EPA and DHA are normal constituents of our cells, especially abundant in brain, nerve, visual, adrenal, and sex gland cells, the most bio-chemically active tissues in our bodies. However, in order for our bodies to produce EPA and DHA from Omega-3, the cells have to be healthy. Degenerative conditions may impair our body's ability to make them. Fish and marine animals do produce these fatty acids in their bodies, but they get much of what they require from brown and red algae. Omega 3 - Fish versus Plant source; which is better? The Omega-3 EFA in the Udo’s oil is transformed by the body into the EPA and DHA as it needs it. Omega-3 in seeds is more stable, less processed and the body has better metabolic control over the transformation process. These EFA’s are readily available in fish oil. Fish oils are faster acting. The other concern with many fish oils on the market is that they may go rancid very fast. As well fish oils may contain high levels of mercury and other toxic metals. How is Omega-3 used by the body? What about conversion of omega 3 to EPA and DHA? Half of the Omega-3 intake gets burned for energy. 10-20% per day is converted into EPA/DHA, but this conversion depends, in part, on the ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6. The conversion is slowed down by excess Omega-6 intake, so they need to be properly proportioned and balanced. The conversion may be hindered by a lack of nutrients like zinc, magnesium, and copper, B3, B6, Vitamin C and E. Women convert Omega-3 to DHA/EPA better than men (36% vs. 16%) Conversion of Omega-3 to DHA also depends on how much DHA is already present in the body. 95-99% of the population does not get enough Omega-3, and what is not present cannot be converted. Saturated and trans-fatty acids can also hinder conversion. Omega-3 and Omega-6 from organic seed oils are very easily used by the body. Taking all these variables into account makes it difficult to generalize but at minimum people are able to convert ALA to DHA at a rate of 2-5% and 5-10% for EPA. This means that one tbsp of Udo’s Oil, which has 6500mg of Omega-3, will give between 130 and 325mg DHA and 325-650mg of EPA. GLA: What is GLA? Gamma Linolenic Acid – part of the breakdown of linoleic acid, or Omega-6. In terms of the GLA content, is it possible to get too much GLA? Almost impossible. There is only a minute amount of GLA in the blend, and since the body makes GLA from omega 6, you really cannot get too much from the oil. The omega 3 in the blend keeps everything in balance. click here to buy udos choice Read the full article

Firstly, Omega 3 crucial fatty acids are not something our bodies can make. We require them to remain healthy, and also this is why they are called essential fats. They are great fats, and consist of the complying with vital fatty acids:
 EPA eicosapentaenoic acid
 DHA docosahexaenoic acid
The primary sources of both EPA as well as DHA are aquatic. They are found in chilly water fish such as sardines, tuna, mackerel, and also tuna.  It is additionally rewarding to explain that lots of people who have begun to use CBD oil have never tried using a supplement of Omega 3. What if they did? Would certainly they get the same results? More than likely they would certainly as well as they may even have the ability to boost their health and wellness problem.
On top of that, they would conserve a large amount of money. CBD oil is extremely expensive as well as numerous business charge a costs cost for an item which they are not acquainted with when it concerns confirming any effective outcomes.
What Is the Main Difference In Between CBD Oil as well as Fish Oil?
CBD oil consists of cannabidiol. This is what producers assert is the active component that can be thought of as a magic bullet. Nonetheless, in research laboratory examinations, cannabidiol has only verified to have a small favorable effect on the following conditions:
 Stress and anxiety
Ataxia
Dystonia
Huntington's Disease
Sleeplessness
Tourette's syndrome
Several Sclerosis
Fish oil can assist in fixing the very same conditions when absorbed with the right the appropriate dosage. For example, EPA in fish oil will assist in treating both stress and anxiety and sleeping disorders.
Sellers of CBD oil make one of the most outrageous cases when it concerns the performance of cannabidiol. Some also assert it will cure and deal with cancer. Lab tests have suggested growth size might diminish when you utilize the entire plant. The results have been credited to THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) as well as not CBD.
Can You Take CBD Oil with Omega 3?
No, you should not utilize CBD oil and Omega 3 together. Both thin the blood as well as might trigger the blood to end up being as well slim. This can lead to strokes and a series of various other cardio problems. Supplements can have adverse effects as well as you ought to bear that in mind when you take any supplement. If you are on any prescription drug you must discuss all supplements you take with your physician.
For instance, if you are taking aspirin to deal with a cardiovascular condition, you must be careful with the quantity of Omega 3 fish oil you take. A safe dosage would certainly be in between 500 mg to 1000 mg each day when taking pain killers.
Should you use CBD oil when you take pain killers? No, you need to not as the amount of Omega 3 in CBD oil is not measured on a lot of CBD oil labels. It might in the worst situation slim your blood way too much.
The Final Judgment on Omega 3 Fish Oil Vs. CBD Oil
CBD oil may seem terrific, but we don't understand that much concerning it. We do understand the whole Cannabis sativa plant can have positive health impacts. Yet, it appears significantly like we need to utilize the plant in its whole.
Supplements originated from CBD oil, blended or pure ones, are proclaimed as having the most outstanding favorable health and wellness results and also "deal with" a range of wellness conditions. I was later told CBD oil would certainly "stop the menopause". That was extremely intriguing and also I asked the seller how CBD oil affects the endocrine system.
However, the vendor did not seem to have come across the endocrine system.
Is CBD Oil Worth the Hype?
When you wish to advertise a supplement such as CBD oil, it is important to recognize what you are discussing as well as you need to be aware of both favorable and also unfavorable effects. CBD oil can undoubtedly disrupt a range of medicines. A number of them are medicines to treat anxiety, depression, and also heart disease.
The reality is that we don't recognize sufficient about the results of the active compound cannabidiol.
The much safer option is Omega 3 necessary fats, and these are the reasons you need to look to fish oil instead:
Easy to regulate the quantity you take
Tested record in dealing with the inflammatory condition
Reliable versus both dermatitis as well as psoriasis
Produced to premium quality controlled criteria
 Less costly than CBD oil
A tested abundant natural source of a range of healthy and balanced substances including EPA and also DHA

Difference between best omega 3 fish oil pills and plant based omega fatty acids
In current times most people are aware of the benefits and necessity of Omega 3 fatty acids. They are not only good for health, but also enhance the beauty and health of skin and hair. They are critical to cell health and prevent stroke and heart disease, arthritis, cancer and memory loss. They also alleviate depression and reduce post traumatic stress according to recent research.
However, our body does not produce omega 3 fatty acids and they have to be consumed in the food we intake. You can derive omega 3 fatty acids from fatty fish and plant based foods like flax seeds, chia seeds, walnuts and leafy vegetables like spinach. Here we need to see which is the best method to include omega 3 fatty acids in your diet?
Marine based omega 3 fatty acids vs. plant based foods
best omega 3 fish oil pills contain DHA and EPA which are long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids which are really beneficial for the health of the cells. On the other hand plant based omega 3 fatty acids do not contain DHA and EPA. They have ALA which is a polyunsaturated fatty acid with a shorter chain. ALA is not as effective in aiding cell growth as DHA and EPA.
An enzyme can convert the ALA into long chain fatty acids EPA but less than 1 percent of ALA gets converted to EPA. According to studies the ALA does not provide the benefit that DHA and EPA provide to the body.
If you want help with medical conditions like arthritis, triglycerides, allergies autoimmune disorders or depression then it is necessary to take fish oil based fatty acids. One of the best fish oil pills available in the market is ChicNutrix Mighty Omega and this pill provides the body with the best results of the benefits of DHA and EPA. Of course there is an algae sourced DHA, but this is much more complicated to manufacture and hence is very expensive. On the other hand this algae extract does not contain EPA. This is the reason that best omega 3 fish oil pills are the best way to get your dosage of Omega 3 fatty acids, because they are cost effective and easy to use.
Which fish contain more omega 3 fatty acids?
Fatty fish like Salmon, tuna, sardines, anchovies, lake trout and mackerel are some of the fish which are rich sources of both DHA and EPA. This is the reason that you should opt for best omega 3 fish oil pills like Chicnutrix Mighty Omega if you want to derive the maximum benefits of the omega 3 fatty acids. We have discussed the benefits of the fatty acids for the overall health. At the same time, these fatty acids nourishes your skin and hair from within and prevents dryness. it reduces breakouts due to dryness, flaky scalp and dandruff issues. They make you look more youthful which is why you should include fish oil supplements in your regime of skin and hair care.

The Top 3 Reasons People Adopt A Vegan Diet…and 2 Reasons No to Adopt It…
Veganism and it’s more conservative side-kick  Vegetarianism have been practiced for thousands of years for a variety of reasons and more people are adopting, or at least transitioning (often through vegetarianism) in one way or another to veganism,   which is considered the “purest” version of  the plant based diet. Having said that,  people eat plant-based diets for one of three reasons (sometimes all three).
Reason #1: Health
There's no shortage of evidence that eating lots of fruits and vegetables contribute to a healthy body and brain. In fact, some research suggests that vegans and vegetarians generally have better health markers than omnivores. In fact, many health experts recommend plant-based diets to people who have heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes and other health conditions.
One big reason people give up animal products involves health concerns about animal protein, particularly red meat. For decades, public health officials and health practitioners urged consumers to eat less meat, especially beef and pork. They cited health concerns such as heart attack, stroke, cancer and more. Another long-held belief about red meat – that its saturated fat content arguably clogs the arteries.
Reason #2: Animal welfare and moral values
This is a key reason for many people in their decision to start and continue a vegan diet. Many vegans strongly believe that all animals, including those that have long been staples in diets all over the world, have a right to life and freedom. That's certainly a fair standpoint, and having emotional attachments with animals often contributes to that view.
For example, research about the motives behind eating a vegan diet shows that having more pets early in life (and a larger variety of pets, e.g., not just cats and dogs) increases the tendency to avoid meat consumption later in life.
Reason #3: Environmental activism
Popular Documentaries like Cowspiracy and What The Health have recently attempted to awaken our collective consciousness  regarding greenhouse gazes  generated by large scale animal agriculture and it’s greedy consumption of vital resources, namely water and land through deforestation…
If you ask a vegan why they decided to eat vegan, there's a good chance they'll mention something about the environment. Many people who eat plant-based diets are passionate about protecting the environment.
Many consumers and even environmental “experts” attribute current environmental issues to animal agriculture, citing flashy statistics about greenhouse gas emissions, water and land usage, waste, labor costs and transportation involved in raising livestock.
So, should you adopt a 100% plant-based diet(from health perspective?)
If you have decided to adopt a Vegan diet for the last 2 reasons, this is the end of the article for you. However, if you are considering adopting a vegan diet for its alleged health benefits, read on…as you might want to re-consider.
Despite the proven success of the vegan diet for treating certain medical conditions, particularly heart related  ailments, this diet might not be for you over the long term (from a health and/or medical perspective). Here are the 2 main reasons why you might not want to adopt a 100% plant based diet.
Reason#1: Protein Sources and Amino Acid Profile
One of the main challenge with a Vegan diet pertains to one of the major macro groups, or the lack of it - Proteins. Our body use proteins to  build muscles and organs, deliver oxygen to cells and keep our immune system working. Meat seems to provides the highest amount of protein per grams as well as greater bioavailability due to its full amino acids profile. Plants only provide part of these chains of amino acids. Having said that, vegans can get protein from legumes(soybeans, lentils,  tempeh, peas, etc…) and some vegetables (Potatoes, Broccoli, Mushrooms,  Brussel Sprouts, etc…) and can actually achieve the full spectrum of amino acids by strategically selecting complementary plants at the nutrient level.
Unfortunately, proteins from legumes such as beans and lentils can increase your risk of leaky gut. Since a vegan diet excludes all forms of animal protein including meat, fish, eggs, and dairy, people following a vegan diet often turn to legumes as a plant-based protein source. Legumes have high levels of antinutrients including lectins and phytates, both of which can increase intestinal permeability, also called leaky gut.
Another problematic source of protein is soy, especially processed forms of the crop. While unprocessed forms of soy may be okay for some people, processed forms of soy are commonly found in a vegan diet, including tofu, soy milk, and soy-based processed foods sold as meat substitutes.
Processed soy foods are no better for human health than any other highly-processed foods, but with the added risk of hormone interference due to phytoestrogens found in all forms of soy.
Reason # 2: Vitamin/Nutrient Deficiencies
Vitamin B12, Iron, Zinc and Omega-3 deficiencies are the most commonly known deficiencies affecting vegans. This is especially important to consider for women of childbearing age, regardless of  health markers.
Let’s start with Iron. Iron-deficient, also called anemia is the most common nutritional deficiency in the world, and both vegans and vegetarians are at higher risk of this condition. While plant foods contain a form of iron, it is called non-heme iron and it is much less absorbable by the body. Iron-deficient anemia can lead to serious symptoms including fatigue, and women of child-bearing age should be aware of how a vegan or vegetarian diet can quickly lead to anemia. While iron supplements can be taken to help reverse or prevent anemia, most women dislike taking iron supplements because of negative side effects. The simple solution is to consume heme-based iron from red meat sources.
Next up is Vitamin B12. Since vitamin B12 is only available in animal foods, vegans are at a much higher risk of developing a deficiency in this vital nutrient. In fact, most nutrition professionals agree that those on a vegan or vegetarian diet must supplement with a high-quality vitamin B12 supplement to avoid irreversible health conditions that can result from deficiency. It should also be noted that many people have a genetic variation known as MTHFR that can impact how B vitamins are absorbed. In this case, even certain B vitamin supplementation might not be enough to prevent a deficiency, regardless of your diet.
How about Zinc? Similarly to vitamin B12, vegan and vegetarian diets can result in low zinc status. It is theorised that the problem in this case is that higher consumption of plant foods containing phytic acid may inhibit the ability of the body to absorb zinc. Because of this potential issue with zinc absorption, it is often recommended by nutrition professionals that vegans and vegetarians should increase their intake of zinc up to 50% of the recommended daily allowance to ensure adequate levels.
Last but not least, Omega-3 fatty acids. Without a food source of omega-3 fatty acids from fish or fish oils and an increased consumption of omega-6 fatty acid from foods like nuts, vegans are at risk of severe imbalance between omega-3 vs omega-6. A deficiency of essential fatty acids—either omega-3s or omega-6s—can cause rough, scaly skin and dermatitis. Plasma and tissue concentrations of DHA decrease when an omega-3 fatty acid deficiency is present. However, there are no known cut-off concentrations of DHA or EPA below which functional endpoints, such as those for visual or neural function or for immune response, are impaired. Algae-based sources of omega-3 fatty acids are an option, but they can be expensive and hard to find. And, since many vegan diets may include a higher than average intake of nuts, the balance of fatty acids in the body can still get off-balance.
There ou have it. You can now make an informed decision. The ball is in your court.

Why Take Omega-3 Supplements?
A wide variety of effects have been ascribed to Omega-3 fatty acids, specifically eicosapentaenoic acid( EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid( DHA ).
Inflammation
Taking in plenty of EPA and DHA appears to be a way to help reduce inflammation. Some research suggests that fish petroleum supplements can be valuable for reducing joint pain associated with inflammatory conditions like arthritis, and one analyze published in The Journal of the American College of Nutrition even found that they took help to reduce( though not eliminate) the need for anti-inflammatory medications among people with inflammatory and autoimmune diseases .( 2 )( 3)
Managing inflammation isn’t just for people with chronic conditions, though. Chronic inflammation has been linked to everything from heart disease to diabetes to cancer, so reducing it where possible could be in everyone’s interest. Folks who work out a lot experience more inflammation than the average person and some research suggested that 1 to 2 grams of Omega-3s per day helped to” counteract exercise-induced rednes” following strength develop .( 4 )( 5)
Torwaistudio/ Shutterstock Mental Health
There’s decent evidence to suggest that maintaining your Omega-3s relatively high could help to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and improve cognition among those already suffering from some forms of cognitive impairment .( 6 )( 7)
Some contest these links — it’s a little less concrete than the anti-inflammation effects — but there’s even an argument to be made that the anti-inflammatory effects can play an important role in treating depression .( 8 )( 9) More research is needed, but fish petroleum, especially fish petroleum that’s over 60 percentage EPA, has been ensure to reduce both depression and anxiety in some research .( 10 )( 11)
Heart Health
Evidence is a little mixed, but we’ve seen more than a few analyzes have assured Omega-3s( especially DHA) to reduce triglycerides( 12 )( 13 )( 14 )( 15 ). Positive effects have also been insured on patients with high blood pressure, though it doesn’t seem to be as effective at lowering the pressure of folks with regular blood pressure .( 16 )( 17 )( 18 )( 19 )( 20)
Dosage
There’s no official recommended intake, but the World Health Organization and the US Department of Health and Human Service suggest a minimum of 250 to 500 milligrams per day, though you should note many of these studies were employing two to four grams per day to achieve their effects.
Note though that your intake should also take into account your Omega-6 fatty acids.
Omega-3 Vs Omega-6
It’s important to note that it’s equally as important to keep your Omega-6 intake low as it is to keep your Omega-3. While the latter is usually found in naturally created fish and meat, the former is high in processed seed petroleums and fried foods, as well as more “natural” foods like chicken and nuts.
Of course, the average person feeds more processed and fried foods than they are able to which means that the ratio of Omega-3 to -6 is off balance. Research suggests that a 1:4 or even 1:2 ratio is ideal for reducing the risk of heart disease and some cancers, but the average person eats closer to 1:10 or even 1:25 in some studies .( 21)
Unless your diet is very Paleo and jam packed with fish, it’s smart to take Omega-3 supplements and reduce your intake of fried and processed food to help the process.
How We Choose the Best
So how did we land on this list? Below are the criteria we used to make sure we’re landing on the cream( or petroleum) of the crop.
Dosage
Studies vary a lot in the dosages — one found that 14 grams of fish petroleum per day for five weeks helped improve some markers of rednes among post-menopausal women .( 22) But as mentioned, the closest thing to a recommendation we’ve got is 250 to 500 milligrams per day of a combination of EPA and DHA. Our favorite supplement delivered a solid 2.5 grams, but we didn’t penalize too harshly for lower amounts.
EPA/DHA Ratio
EPA is a little more closely linked with inflammation and DHA has a closer tie with mental health issues and they’re usually dosed equally, but we didn’t penalize if the dosages weren’t exactly the same. Some limited research suggests to go more heavy on the EPA if you’re after reducing rednes rather than emphasizing mental benefits but this isn’t concrete enough to recommend and in any case, predilections are too individual for us to prefer one ratio over another .( 23)
Third Party Testing
There are several third party testers and regulatory bodies that can be employed by the manufacturers of Omega-3 supplements.
The most popular is probably The International Fish Oil Standards( tm)( IFOSS ), who awarded five superstars to our Best Overall and Most Responsibly Sourced pickings. The Ontario-based organization focuses on three main categories: the label accuracy, or the amount of active ingredients claimed on the label; the presence of contaminants like mercury and radiation, which they state can outweigh the beneficial health effects of fish oil; and stability, or how quickly the product is likely to degrade. IFOS is the only organization that tests fish oil products by batch and lot number to make sure they each have the right components, don’t contain contaminants, and are stable and fresh for consumption.
The other organization you hear about the most often Marine Stewardship Council, which is more focused on sustainability. A global nonprofit organization, they work with fisheries, grocery store, eateries, and supplement companies to improve fishing practices, combat hoax, promote transparency, and help ensure that generations to come can enjoy seafood. Every fishery is independently assessed to figure out the impact on wild fish populations and they also track the furnish chain to make sure all of their certified fish petroleum can be traced back to an approved fishery.

Friend of the Sea also endorse some of the supplements we looked at. Their mission is broader than MSC, working not only with fish oil supplements but also shipping and cruise lines and whale watching companies. But the Italian organization’s mission is still focused on sustainability: a project of the World Sustainability Organization, they carry out yearly audits onsite by independent international certification bodies, and their requirements include waste and energy management, social accountability , no significant impact on the seabed, and not affecting animals deemed “overexploited” by the UN’s Food and Agricultural Organization.
Labdoor is another highly regarded company that emphasizes label accuracy. An approval from Labdoor is highly valued in all areas of nutritional supplements — the completely independent company purchases products off of retail shelves and online sites and then send samples to an FD-Aregistered laboratory for chemical analysis.
Sourcing
Particularly for the fisheries industry based Omega-3s, responsible sourcing can be a priority for some consumers. This is where the certifications from IFOSS, Marine Stewardship Council, and Friend of the Sea come into play.
Freshness
Nobody wants rancid fish oil. Besides following the guidelines we’ve described below, we gave extra points to products that freeze their product soon after harvesting, which helps to maintain freshness.
Additives
We’re not of the intellect that Omega-3 supplements should have only Omega-3s and nothing else at all. Some additives can be useful: rosemary or oregano extract, for example, appears to help inhibit their oxidation .( 24) Tocopherols also seem to help protect against contaminants .( 25)
We therefore prefer fish petroleums with ingredients like these, water, and glycerin( to maintain the shape of the capsules ).
YARUNIV Studio/ Shutterstock Best Food Sources of Omega-3
You’re unlikely to eat enough algae to get a good serving of Omega-3 — that’s why we tend to turn to fish, who eat enough of the stuff that it amasses in their fat.( Or they eat enough of the fish that eat the algae … or enough of the fisheries industry that eat enough of the fish that feed … you see what we mean .)
In a hundred grams, these are the animals that are highest in Omega-3 according to Nutritiondata.
Mackerel: 5,134 milligrams Salmon: 2,260 milligrams Anchovies: 2,113 milligrams Herring: 1,729 milligrams Sardines: 1,480 milligrams Oysters: 672 milligrams Halibut: 669 milligrams
Caviar is higher, with 6,789 milligrams per 100 grams, but few people are to be able to ingest that much caviar at once.
But what about vegan sources?
Do Vegan Omega-3s Work?
Omega-3s sources from algae are a good source EPA and DHA, which is why it’s the base of the vegan product we’ve recommended. But all the other plant-based foods that are frequently touted as good sources of Omega-3, such as chia, walnuts, and flaxseeds, are not.
Most vegan Omega-3s are alpha-linolenic acid, or ALA. The problem with ALA is that the body needs to convert it to EPA and DHA, and it’s estimated that about 90 percent of it is lost in the process .( 26) Plus, if you’re eating a lot of Omega-6( as we tend to do ), it appears to make it even harder for the body to make this conversion .( 27)
Basically, you need to consume ten times the amount of ALA to get roughly the same amount of EPA/ DHA. That said, really high quantities of ALA have been linked to an increase in risk of prostate cancer .( 28) It’s also been linked to lower dangers of heart disease and diabetes, but doubling down on ALA might be an iffy strategy .( 29)
Golmer/ Shutterstock Does Fish Oil Go Bad?
Fish oil expires. It’s animal fat, after all, and it can go rancid and lose its effectiveness. In fact, polyunsaturated fatty acids are highly prone to oxidative degeneration, according to a 2015 paper in Journal of Nutritional Science it’s one of the supplements that are the most prone to degradation .( 30) One analyze even looked at 171 supplements from 49 brands in Canada and found that 50 percentage outstripped limits for at least one measure of oxidation .( 31)
The risk of oxidation is affected by exposure to oxygen and light, temperature, antioxidant content, and the presence of water and heavy minerals. To minimize risks it’s smart to keep your fish petroleum in the fridge. The expiration date should be printed on your bottle, and while that date is meant to undershoot the expiration and take into account that many people might not store them well, it probably refers to when the gels will expire if left unopened.
Here some tips.
Buy them one month at a time so you’re not stockpiling older supplements. Once they’re open, start taking them every day. Check to ensure the oil is clear , not cloudy The coating should be springy , not soft If they smell bad, don’t take’ em.
Wrapping Up
It doesn’t matter if your priority is purity, the environmental issues, or staying plant-based, there’s an Omega-3 supplement for you. We’ve done the hard work of weighing the countless vying supplements on the market — pick one of the best and enjoy. Just remember to keep’ em in the fridge.

The Guide to Fish Oil and Omega 3! An Easy to Understand Complete Insight on What, Why and How
For Starters, the human body is made up of an estimated 100 billion human cells. Omega 3 fats are a part of the cell membrane of each one of these. Providing an adequate supply of Omega- 3 to the body is essential to promoting and maintaining optimum health.
Now lets Understand that good fat is in fact good. The 1980's are over. We should all know now that not all fat is not bad. There are in fact good fats and bad fats. Omega 3's are a part of a category of fats known as Essential Fatty Acids or"EFA's." These are fats that are good, we need them. Essential fatty acids, which are polyunsaturated fats, are known as essential because they cannot be manufactured by the body. They need to be gotten from the food that we eat. Less common are Omega 7 (sea buckthorn) and there's also Omega 5.
In A mean diet most men and women get adequate amounts of the important EFA's Omega 6 and 9. Often, as far as is needed by the human body or longer. But, our dietary intake of the crucial EFA Omega-3 is way below the amount required by the body for optimal health.
According to Present-day conceptions of human nourishment, most nutritional scientists assert that our bodies need to keep roughly a 2-1 ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6. That there should be approximately two Omega 3's to every one Omega 6 in your system. According to others we ought to have at least a one to one ratio.
In actuality though many people have approximately a 15-1 ratio Of Omega 6 to Omega 3, and some up to 20-1. Typically it is not the consequence of excess Omega 6 ingestion causing this upside-down ratio but an extremely insufficient Omega 3 intake. That is to say our Omega 6 intake isn't usually significant. For many people it's where it's supposed to be. Our Omega 3 intake nevertheless is low. Our exceptionally insufficient Omega 3 intake retains the ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 entirely the opposite of what our bodies need to function optimally.
Some examples: To maintain good health an ideal supply Of Omega 3 EFA's in the body isn't just helpful, it's principle in preventing and helping a high number of common health concerns.
Tumblr media
-Omega As a result, highly concentrated Omega 3 is recommended by Doctors for Rheumatoid Arthritis (an auto-immune disorder where the body attacks itself and presents swelling or inflammation, and soreness ).
-Doctors and Nutritionists have documented positive outcomes from high concentration Omega 3 used to aid focus and concentration in patients with ADD.
-Omega 3 fats are extremely powerful in naturally lowering blood pressure, triglycerides, and cholesterol, as well as for improving overall cardiovascular health. Large population studies imply that omega-3 from the diet, mostly from fish, helps protect against stroke brought on by plaque buildup and blood clots in the arteries that cause the mind.
-Studies have connected Omega 3's to relief for intestinal disorders such as IBS, Crohn's and Ceoliacs ailments.
-Omega 3's have been proven to promote wholesome brain function, to help provide mental clarity, to help with skin conditions and much more.
Tracking The study and benefits. The nutrition industry web-tool Healthnotes applies'star' ratings to indicate a level of scientific proof to demonstrate a natural products capacity to aid a particular health issue, or to give needed support for healthier living. 1-3 stars are awarded depending on the results of study's published in a reputable health magazine or journal.
1-star in healthnotes means there is some scientific Data suggesting a product will help a certain need, but restricted. Some evidence is there but is inconclusive. Using this product for this issue might help.
2-stars indicates there is a fair Amount of scientific data that a product will help a specific need. It helps, has been shown to help, or is worth trying.
3-stars Means there is a substantial body of reliable and consistent scientific data which this product will help this need and it's use is highly recommended.
Here's some Healthnotes findings in published studies on the benefits of Omega 3 and various common health conditions
Anecdotes. After taking Omega 3 supplements individuals have said their physician told them their blood pressure is lower. After giving a kid Omega 3 supplements consistently, parents of children with ADD received a call from school that their child's attentiveness and behaviour had improved (other nutrients like magnesium or L-theanine may also be significant to help with excitability and calmness).
Improvements could be seen Even within a few weeks of consistent supplementing. However, it is important to note that improving health through nutrition is quite gradual, natural procedure. When choosing nutritional supplements to assist with a health problem the body requires unwavering consistency, and time to develop its stores of a micro-nutrient. The body will start to rely on the stable presence of the beneficial product and put it to use. After this improvement can be seen. One to 3 months is normal with this building process (cases vary).
Lousy fat is poor. Saturated fats From animal products raise the levels of blood glucose within the body. They're saturated in Arachadonic acid and when over-consumed hinder or interfere with the immune system. This can result in cardiovascular disease, inflammatory conditions as well as dementia.
Omega 3 vs. Fish oil. Provide us what we want. To explain, we must know that'fish oil' does not benefit us all! Not even a little. It is just the Omega 3 content of this fish oil that rewards us. Fish oil is simply a carrier for the Omega 3 fats. Nothing more. Omega 3 fats are healthy for our bodies, not fish oil. Once again, the Omega 3 at the fish oil benefits usthe fish oil itself does not.
As with any nutritional Supplement, to select an excellent fish oil product you have to read the label. An excellent, or'high quality' fish oil product will possess at least a fifty per cent ratio of Omega 3 to fish oil-(aka marine lipid concentrate). What this signifies is, although all the oil extracted from a fish is fish oil, not all that fish oil is Omega 3. To explain further, if we squeeze fish at a press and collect all the oil, then the fish oil, then in a cup then 100 percent of what's in our cup is fish oil. However, not all of that fish oil is Omega 3.
At a high quality fish oil Merchandise at least half of their total amount of'fish oil' should be in the form of Omega 3. Like this:
Total fish oil (marine lipid concentrate):- 1000 mg
Total Omega 3 (EPA,DHA, ALA/other): - 500 mg
This Is a fifty per cent ratio. Fifty percent of this total fish oil content of this capsule is Omega 3. This is an example of a premium quality product. Below fifty percent isn't.
Since it's only the Omega-3 Content of the fish oil that provides advantage, not the fish oil itself, we need a high ratio of Omega 3 to 2 fish oil.
While a Fish-oil Oil per capsule but only 100 mg, 150mg or 200 milligrams of Omega 3 is more common. They're easy to find for a cheap price at a supermarket. But in such products we have between 800 and 900 mg of merely fish oil with each capsule. This doesn't benefit us all, 80-90% of this product does nothing for us. Obviously the cost is cheap. Commensurate with what we've paid. It's a lot of fish oil to eat to only benefit from the 1/10 - 1/5 that actually has Omega 3 fats. If we needed 1200 milligrams of Omega 3/day, we would need to choose 6-12 capsules every day from brands with those ratios.
Apart From obligating us to take far more capsules than mandatory when using products that are better, products at 10-20% ratios are inexpensive because they lag behind the most recent industry standards and advancements. With an extremely low price product we also consider which fish the'fish oil' comes from, as well as, the origin of the fish, molecular distillation, perhaps the absence of any top quality standard in any way. In the end, the cost of a fish oil product will be more if it's a high concentration and if it's a product which offers the very best in quality criteria. Fortunately, most health store retailers offer discounts.
The highest Omega 3/fish oil ratios the market produces is approximately 70%. In a 1000 mg capsule there can be around 700 milligrams of Omega 3 and 300 milligrams of just fish oil.
The Omega 3 fatty acid is able to be acquired by our bodies Only from dietary sources, vegetable and marine. These are obtained in their long-chain state only from marine sources. Especially from the oil of specific fish or from marine algae.
The main Advantages of Omega 3's are at the long-chain fatty Nearly all the benefits we attempt to acquire from fish oil supplements, the ones we read about (all the benefits listed in Healthnotes) are in the Omega 3 long-chain fatty acids EPA and DHA only. The Omega 3 short-chain fatty acid ALA may be very beneficial for all health issues, particularly for skin and hair. On the other hand, the studies uncovering the advantages we read and hear about are showing results mainly of those long-chain fatty acids EPA and DHA obtained from marine sources. Meaning from fish oil. Fish oil established Omega 3 is the main positive outcomes are coming out of, not vegetable origin Omega 3 which can only directly provide the short-chain Omega 3 ALA..
Converting ALA isn't enough. In order to get the main advantages of Omega 3 from vegetable sources, ALA must be converted to EPA. Even though the body will convert ALA to EPA, it does so very inefficiently. The most liberal reports about the benefits of vegetable based Omega-3's (ALA) show only about 3-5percent of it being converted into a long-chain fatty acid (EPA). Some studies show that only about 1-3% will probably be effectively converted. This means that to get the principal benefits (as omega 3 EPA), the quantity of'vegetable'-sourced Omega 3 we'd need to consume or take in and then convert is almost practically beyond reach.
Despite current trends, In order to truly gain using vegetable Omega 3 such as Salba Seed, Sage, flaxseed , we would need to eat like an undomesticated equine (a Wild horse). Otherwise there just won't be enough Omega 3. For more detail click Fishing Tackle
