i might get some hate for this depending on where this post goes but i think lesboys are so valid and the discourse about them is so ridiculous. like you guys shouldn't have to deal with all that and it frustrates me that people throw hissy fits over an identity that literally does not affect them at all.

Shovel the fucking quasit

Finally figured out what the deal is with the summon Shovel spell. After about 85 reloads to test it, it seems that Setting Shovel's name is crucial to getting her to say the "ooh a spellshite" line which will then add the "summon cheeky quasit" spell to your spellbook for a wizard/sorcerer/warlock.

We all know it's bugged for storm and draconic sorcerers, it's because their unique dialogue with Shovel overrides the option to set her name.

There are other posts floating around on reddit saying you have to choose certain dialogue options in a 1,1,1,1,1,1,2 way, and while it works (for non storm/draconic sorcerers), it works BECAUSE that order will set her name as Shovel. You can actually choose any dialogue options: As long as you set her name as Shovel before speaking to her with the character you want the permanent summon spell on.

[I've sent bug reports to Larian about this, please do not message me telling me to do so. They know. I promise. I've sent them my findings. Hopefully they can fix Shovel's dialogue tree so that the spellshite line triggers reliably. But it's fucked for now and has been since EA, so here's how to get the summon for storm/draconic sorcerers.]

Example for what worked to get summon quasit spell:

Use any companion (any class, but NOT a sorcerer) to cast the scroll.

Choose whatever dialogue options you want. But during this conversation at some point you MUST choose the dialogue option "your name is shovel?"

This will give you the option to name Shovel. You can choose either option 1. "What do you want to be called?" followed by "Shovel is fine". Or just choose 2. "Shovel is fine"

Finish the conversation however you want.

Switch to Tav (or the character you wish to get the permanent summon spell on [they MUST have at least 1 level of wizard/sorcerer/warlock]) and speak to Shovel. Shovel should now say "ooh a spellshite!" and the summon quasit spell will appear in their spellbook. Boom. Have fun murderising!

I tested this method by using a random companion to cast the scroll, and then using storm and draconic sorcerer Tav/Durge and it consistently worked to give my sorcerer the "spellshite" line. All of this was done in the cellar, before going through the mirror.

Example of what does not work:

using storm or draconic sorcerer Tav to cast the scroll and speak with shovel. -> The option to name shovel never appears. Can continue conversation about mirror/book.

trying to set shovel's name using another companion after 1st conversation with sorcerer; this will not work, her dialogue will repeat "talk to mirror" or "trust me beefy".

If you choose a different name for Shovel (like i tried many times): When you speak to "Basket/Fork" as sorcerer/wizard/warlock Tav, "Basket" will say "Another gobshite. What you want with Basket?" and this line will override the spellshite line, and it won't play. Repeat attempts to talk to "basket" will give "go on talk to mirror" line on loop, or the "see, tell you truth beefy" line on a loop. "Basket/Fork" will never say the spellshite line, unfortunately :(

*You can learn the scroll as a wizard, however this will add it to your wizard spellbook and will take up a prepared spell slot, and it will not get added to your common spellbook as a ritual spell. **but only the "Spellshite" line adds the summon quasit spell to your common spells as a ritual spell that does not take up a spell slot to cast.

Short brief when this post is published: I still have my computer with problems and reinstalling Windows myself, because the problem persists and otherwise I would have to pay about $63 just to factory reset it. The more I think about it, the claim Edelgard wants to be a goddess/replace the goddess from Dimitri and Seteth makes more sense. Her believing only she can fix the world's problems, believing the world is too sinful because of "those eeevil lizard people", crushing anyone who dares oppose her and seeing human sacrifices as a means to an end/collateral damage. Heck you can see her war as a rapture and those who don't agree with her burn for a thousand years or in the case get killed/vanquished. And after her war if she wins, then she reforms a church under her name and in Nopes she does the exact the same thing after getting rid of the Slithers with Rhea. And considering how cultish her stans irl behave while trying to claim that they're "good people", yeah it all clicks.

The thing is,

The "Goddess" or at least what we know/heard of her didn't even act like Supreme Leader did.

Sure, sources on Sothis's time in Fodlan are biased, either we're told anything about her by Rhea, or by the Mole People.

But I agree, the game gives us some clues about what Supreme Leader wants to be, at least in Tru Piss. With her Manu support, she becomes the figure people look up to and aspire to be, the source of strength the Goddess and the CoS previously were. You also have the explore sections in the monastery, and how she's found where Rhea used to be when she was doing her archbishop things (the audience chambers iirc?), the CoS being "reformed under her supervision" and the final straw on the camel's back is her ending mural.

The rest is her messiah complex - partly fueled by Adrestian nationalism - and her stubborness, Supreme Leader will walk on her path and refuse to look back or even reconsider, no matter the obstacles standing before her, you are either on her side, or an obstacle needing to be removed.

As for the irl devoted fans, lol, I won't consider their behaviour in an analysis of the character, but if we are to talk about the BESF in Nopes, they are also sure they're doing a favor to the world/Fodlan while ignoring a good part of said Fodlan. Nopes!Ferdie comes to mind, with his nonsense about the Kingdom having more crusted generals, or the general fuckery that is the alliance with the Federation, or people being gung ho and looking forward to sack the monastery/cities/Faerghus to earn some fame.

I've always loved dandelions. People call them weeds, and for a while I thought that meant they were dangerous. Toxic, even. Truth be told, they're just unwanted. That's all that the word 'weed' means. Once you get a yard full of them, do you think they stop being weeds and start being a garden?

Dandelions mean so much to me. I think they're my favorite flower. Sunflowers, too, of course, but dandelions really get a message across.
