Disco Elysium fun facts
0. There's an entire lore atlas (endless love to the author), although while it has at least some of those facts I list below, it mostly focuses on geography.
And yeah, SPOILER WARNING.
Jean Vicquemare's full name is Jean-Heron Vicquemare. It's literally only mentioned in one line of dialogue below. Esprit de Corps - With an agitated gait Satellite-Officer Jean-Heron Vicquemare paces the jetty, 22 kilometres East -- in Martinaise: "What could he *possibly* be doing there for so long," he says.
Jean was (is) an equestrian cop, as in, horse-mounted. However, I found no confirmation that he particularly liked horses as a hobby-thing. I think "we" in this line meant for "the pair of us", as police partners. Because there are lines in the game referring to other MCs in Precinct 41. But I have no space in this post to quote them. Jean Vicquemare - "For the record, you pressured us into getting it. 'It'll be cool Jean, we'll have wheels, rapid response...' I was fine being an equestrian cop. I hope you're fine driving a *bicycle*."
The actual name of Kim's dead partner, who was nicknamed "Eyes", was probably Dom or something that starts with Dom. At least this is name put on two cases in Kim's paperwork, which you can peek into if you come to Kim's room after the Tribunal without Kim. I assume that meant to happen if Kim was shot, but I theoretize that you could do that by going to sleep and then just going into the room, since Kim magically disappears after you dismiss him for the night and won't be in his room unless you knock on the outside door. Half-Finished Paperwork - This year, you can see references to: THE CHILD, DOM'S UNFINISHED; DOM'S UNFINISHED 2, MOTORCYCLE EMPTINESS, and THE MAN WITH THE HOLE IN HIS HEAD. UPD: "Dom" doesn't seem to be initials, because see Cuno (but then again, what does Cuno know about this? Maybe he SHOULD have read it as initials!): Cuno - The boy picks up the notes and shuffles through some of the case names: "'The Child', 'Dom's Unfinished', 'Dom's Unfinished 2', 'The Man With the Hole in His Head'... Boring ass shit," he concludes.
Homosexuality was legalized by communards in '04, which is 8 years before Kim was born. But we all known that society needs much longer to adapt to the thought. The exact details are hard to say. Encyclopedia at least says that there's no actual cults involved. The Deserter - "Lax sexual morals are a bourgeois ploy," he gargles a spit ball. "As to pederasty, the Party legalized it in '04. My Party, not your liberal masters." He spits it out on the dying coals. Encyclopedia - Just pointing it out, we're not talking about some kind of a cult with *members* here, you made it up.
Murder in Martinaise happened at March 4th, '51. Give or take a day. This, so far, is the least important piece of trivia I decided to add. You - "8. Date of death:" Kim Kitsuragi - "We're still going with March 4th, '51."
Motor carriages are controlled by two steering levers, not by a steering wheel. Not only you can see that if you close-up on Kim's Kineema, there are direct quotes about it. Abandoned Lorry - The glass on the side windows is tinted and covered with dust. You can barely make out the shape of a seat and two steering levers. Coupris Kineema - In the cabin you see a set of steering levers, a radio on a hook, a pull-out toolbox and the soft glow of the fuel pre-heater gauge.
I found where from people took "Volta do Mar" as Kim's personal skill. It's something printed on Kim's jacket you can buy as official DE merch.
At some point in his career, for unknown reasons, Kim worked in Processing for a year. They are as bad as he describes them. Kim Kitsuragi - He shakes his head. "I worked as one of these *Processing guys* for a year. They are butchers and clowns. I once saw twenty CODs go misidentified in one week. Chances are slim to none that they'll find anything useful in processing."
The mystery of Kim's glasses. There's one line that says they are "diamond-shaped" despite his portrait. I've seen a comment suggesting it refers to "diamat", as in, dialectic materialism. I think this feels more like a typo, but why would anyone think Kim's glasses are diamond-shaped when they were round from his earliest (and only) concept art? Kim Kitsuragi - The lieutenant says nothing. You see the machine's glowing frame reflected back from his diamond-shaped glasses. You're free to proceed. Truly a mystery. The case of DIAMOND-ROUND-SHAPED GLASSES will stay unsolved forever.
Kim *isn't* a moralist. Present tense. He *was* a moralist once, but since then, he changed his mind. Now he believes in RCM. He embodies the political stance of "all ideologies suck in their own ways, let's just live our lives here and try do to a good job" (which I *heartily* approve). Although some will say that *this* is moralist by itself. Kim Kitsuragi - "Yes. I *did* -- when I was younger. In my twenties I considered myself a moralist. *A blue forget-me-not, a piece of the sky*," he quotes. "They're not all that bad." Kim Kitsuragi - "But the years have changed that. I don't know *what* I believe in now...." He thinks, then changes his mind. "No. I believe in the RCM. That's enough for me."
Harry always wakes up at 7:30. He made a vow. Volition - You got up from this floor because of a holy vow you made sixteen years ago. With *me*. To wake up exactly 07:30 every morning until the day you die. Notably, the morning right after the memory loss is an exception, where Harry only wakes up because of the Kineema. I have a suspicion that if Kim didn't drive to the Whrling-in-Rags, Harry could've never woke up. Never-ever-ever.
The standard role-playing dice in Elysium is a 24-side die. There's a side for each skill! You - "What's a *standard* role-playing die?" Novelty Dicemaker - "It's an *icositetrahedron* -- a 24-sided die that can produce results for a 2-sided, 3-sided, 4-sided, 6-sided, and 12-sided die with a single roll. Technically you can also use it for many other sizes, but you may need to re-roll results."
Trant was formerly addicted to pyrholidon. I think it's implied that his practice of stick fighting, which he does for 4 hours daily for 20 years straight, is a replacement for said addiction. Trant Heidelstam - "Lo Manthang stick fighting is a little like a pyrholidon addiction," he explains with a little smile. "I've been practising it for nearly 20 years now, so you could say that my doses have grown a little… peculiar." Electrochemistry - Wait. What does this man know about pyrholidon addiction? You - "Hold on. Pyrholidon addiction? What an interesting metaphor…" (Study his face.) "Or perhaps not a metaphor at all?" Trant Heidelstam - "You got me, detective." He chuckles, before a shadow takes hold of his face. "But my history should hardly come as a surprise." Authority - Here's a former junkie. I can recognize one when I see it. Mikael Heidelstam - Suddenly little Mikael opens up his mouth: "Dad's fighting with sticks every night after dinner for four hours. He has a special room for that -- and a special costume!"
Trant is divorced and shares custody of his son with his mother. As usual, there's only one line that points at it. But at least it's clear enough. (I give their due to Jean/Trant shippers) Trant Heidelstam - "I sent him home," he responds calmly. "Mikael is with his mother. We share custody."
Judit has been in Harry's task force for only 2 months, imagine that. It probably explains why she's so nice to him. Judit Minot - "Lieutenant," she says with a heavy sigh. "My name is not 'Horse-Faced Woman'. It's Judit Minot. I was assigned to your unit two months ago. I thought we were friends..."
All facts are proven with quotes taken from the game dialogues on FAYDE. No quote - no fact.
Disco Elysium is a huge game, with lots of lore not just about its world, but about its characters... And this lore is split under a bazillion of different conversations which are hard to navigate and easy to miss.
As a result, there are a lot of small facts that many people just unaware of and make up their own stuff instead. The inconsistency irks me a little (actually, it irks me a lot). Love, peace <3

♡—DREAM replied to a post and a comment on Reddit! A transcript of the long comment is under the cut.
"So many people in this thread are just being ridiculous or saying things that are completely factually wrong. Like you are so pessimistic and hate twitter so much that you feel the need to disagree on everything. Like you can hate twitter and still recognize when a twitter take is right or not criticize everything I do on twitter.
Me asking the fandom to not comment about “body doubles” wearing the mask for required promotional content while I’m literally recovering for surgery, because it takes away from the content, is totally ridiculously okay. Especially given the fact I told them that would be the case in the first place, and far less people would comment on it in the first place. I’m not “policing” anyone, I’m asking and explaining why, as I have done tons in the past because it works because my fans respect me and I respect them (very generally lol). People say it all the time when it’s me under the mask that it’s not because of X or Y or Z and sometimes even those reasonings make me a little uncomfortable, especially in times when it is me.
Or speculating that George or Nick or Ken or whoever is under the mask.
People saying stuff about TikTok stats being terrible and that it’s trash content and not because of fans. First of all, no one’s blaming fans for anything, and it wasn’t even about past content it was seeing everyone comment “Ken” (when it’s not even Ken) on my TikTok and me realizing that would be confusing and could impact views, that’s just how I am, I analyze everything.
And anyone saying “TikTok views are trash because trash content” are just morons. My TikTok views are high, and I’ve uploaded more in the past months than I have like times 30 in the past years. Yea I’ve posted shit ones as well, that comes with trying to post more and more frequently. I’ve gained more followers recently than in years. Some of what I’ve uploaded is high effort skit content, others low quality memes or whatever. But I’m uploading what is fun and unique to me and that’s it and you can not watch it if you don’t like it.
For those complaining so much about the mask, literally just step back and realize how ridiculous you’re being?? Of my last 12 TikTok’s, 6 of them featured the mask. a few of them my face, a few of them Minecraft/normal content I’d make. Most the mask ones were just making fun of me wearing it in public lol. I post snaps in the mask, and also not in the mask. For those saying it makes my music impersonal, I’ve promoted on different platforms in the mask and out of the mask, for that reason lots of the UIEUD music video wasn’t in the mask since that was such an emotional piece. For my tour I plan to have plenty of show elements where I’m wearing the mask, and lots of singing and stuff where I’m not. At TwitchCon Paris I was in and out of the mask, at the boxing event I was in and out of the mask, I take fan photos without the mask. Like you’re far over exaggerating, and you’re forgetting I WAS A FACELESS CREATOR, I made 100% of my content without showing my face, AND I said I didn’t plan on showing my face all the time after, said I wouldn’t do face-cam streams, etc. If your complaint is that you’d rather see no person than me in the mask, then you’re just trying to look for something to complain about.
You could say “well now that we’ve seen your face we just realize that we’re missing out on seeing your face in that TikTok or post or whatever and it’s annoying” that’s totally valid, but have you ever thought that maybe you wouldn’t see that post at all if it wasn’t for the mask? I’m fairly confident, but I’m still very conscious of my looks and being judged by hundreds of millions of people makes me double take about putting just anything out on to the internet. “Oh I have a bad hair day, usually wouldn’t record, oh fuck it throw on the mask”
I’m not obligated to make content with my face in it, and I ALWAYS SAID I WASNT GOING TO, but I’ve actually grown a healthier relationship with how I look and the internet, so I do plan on showing myself more than I originally said. That being said, I love the mask, it’s great for me, and it’s always been my brand so get off your high horse about “dreams an idiot everyone hates it!”, when that’s just YOU being parasocial and not even recognizing it. I am enjoying what I’m doing and amplifying things that make me enjoy it, and I like the mask. I don’t owe anyone content of my face, but there will be plenty. I plan on making public appearances showing my face, making TikTok’s showing my face (as I have), posting pictures showing my face (as I have), and lots more. But only when and where I want to, and not because you think it’s stupid to wear the mask, but because I want to.
It’s fine to not like the fact that I wear the mask and express that you’d rather see that TikTok or post as my face, but just try and remember that I was faceless, and hardly planned on posting my face after the face reveal. There was years were I never showed myself, months where I was caught up in everything and showed myself so much, months where I JUST wore the mask, and now we’re slowly moving to a middle ground. Coming to terms with what I enjoy the most and is the best for me overall. Jesus reading this thread was exhausting so many just patently false things out of anger. I get it I haven’t communicated here much with this side, here’s a comment rip me apart"

Hate Sink Wiki Rant
This wiki should not exist. To be fair, at least as a concept it is not as bad the quality Wikis, who acted like media pieces are factually good or bad, when it is actually subjective and while it is totally fine to express your opinion, labeling art as good or bad should be left to decide for each person and not expressed by communities as common knowledge. For example, it's fine if reviewers individually or as a team label something good, bad or in between. It's fine if a circle of people have the same opinions about a piece of media as long as they are not pressuring anyone to agree and as long as said piece of media isn't (seriously) harmful. What is not wrong is to create an entire wiki space that labels subjective concepts as good or bad as if those were objective, universal standards. The reason why the idea of a hate sink wiki isn't as bad, is because it adds characters who were meant by the authors to be hated, in other words it is based on author intentions, rather than quality. If for instance an author confirms they wrote one of their characters as a hatesink, than the label hatesink objectively applies to said character, regardless of the quality of writing. The problem with this is that authors don't often confirm their intentions with their characters, making it hard to tell if a loathsome character was meant to be this way at times.
Now despite my criticism I must admit that I agree with some of their pages. I agree for instance about characters like Sho Tucker and Umbridge being hatesinks even without the author's confirmation. However, many of their pages stretch the definition of hatesink and they disallow pages of characters who are way more vile, annoying or pathetic that some of their existing pages.
They add for instance Suzy Johnson. While she is extremely selfish and manipulative, she is not a murderer, she is only doing evil if you get in her way or if she considers so, her evil deeds are always played for laughs and don't ruin lives and she shows some genuine kindness and relatability when she doesn't think she could lose Jeremy's affection. Now, I don't claim she is a very sympathetic or noble demon, for the most part she isn't, but she is on the lower scale of villainy and her evil schemes are smart and funny, making her way more redeemable, funny and complex than an actual hatesink. Meanwhile, they disallow Junko Enoshima, a mass-murderer and hopecrusher, because she is funny. In this case I do agree with their decision, but the fact that they decided Suzy is a hatesink, despite also being a funny a villain and way less evil than Junko, show's how murky their standards are. They also do not list Angelica Pickles, despite her being generally more annoying than Suzy as she screams more and she has a bigger ego. Also, while bot characters are goofy, Suzy's plans are way more unrealistic and ridiculous than Angelica's, making Angelica feel more like a realistic mean little girl thus more detestable. Not to mention that Angelica is almost always in Rugrats while Suzy appears in only 3 episodes, giving the latter less time to set an impression. I can also list more a lot more characters more annoying than Suzy who didn't make it to the wiki: Sarah from Ed, Edd n Eddy, Millie from Kid vs. Kat, Jake Spidermonkey from My Gym Partner's a Monkey. I don't think those characters should be listed as hatesinks either, though I think it is debatable wether Angelica and Millie are suppose to be hated, since they are just jerks at worst, albeit exaggeratedly bad, and they did show redeeming qualities, I still wouldn't say we can surely label them as hatesinks. I feel like the internet started recently to overhate on Suzy and I don't get why. Now, I understand hating her, I don't even hate her and even I feel like she could've been better written, but I feel like some people give her more shit compared to other characters that are way more vile or annoying than her.
What I find ridiculous is that they sometimes even add very minor characters who are standard jerks or bullies. They added Bufford's past bully who appeared in only one episode for only a few minutes and the worst he did was standard bullying and trying to eat Bufford's goldfish, the latter being a stupid act played for laughs. Sure, he only had only one funny moment that was at the same time an attempt to kill a pet, and sure, it's very bad that he was beating up and picking up on smaller kids. I totally understand if you hate him, I sort of do myself, everyone should hate bullying, but it's not much worse than what kids typically do. I don't claim everyone was a bully in their childhood, but what kid didn't get into fights or acted bratty at times? Sure, he is worse than a typical kid, but again, it's nothing outright evil and we only got a few minutes of this guy. He didn't get enough screen time to leave a lasting impression. We also don't know about his motivation. For all we know, he could be a troubled bully. There was nothing to imply that, but there was nothing to debunk that either. Hating him is understandable, but what makes the wiki contributors so sure that this minor character who is nothing more than a standard and stupid bully who barely got screen time was intended by the creators to be so leave lasting hatred within the audiences to the point that it is worth writing an entire page describing why this character was meant to be hated.
This Wiki should not exist. It might not label quality levels to media, but writing an entire wiki on how to interpret an author's intentions isn't much better, unless maybe they limit themselves exclusively to what authors themselves have to say. This is telling people how to interpret media and I wouldn't have a problem with it if they didn't treat it like it's a fact. TV tropes pretty much has the same problem. I think they should've kept only the definition on hatesink and not listed any examples, again, unless the author confirmed a character to be a hatesink.

This contemptible person has decided to use images of me without me permission in order to intimidate and harass me for malicious intent. I will be seeking legal action against this.
This type of behaviours called 'white knight'. What are white knights?
They’re what are known as “white knights” they think it their duty to rid the intros anyone they hear about or think are “violators”. They take all “evidence” at face value. Meaning even if it DOES NOT prove the person in question guilty, they’ll label them and create false evidence . Here’s just a bit of what they can do:
text Harass via phone
Harass via sock accounts
Use sub communities to get them railed up
Send spies out to monitor every single post you make and if you do make one they doxx it back or in some cases make group chats and yoink everyone in.
They take every post out of context. They have a cult mentality, and recruit more people via their ability to exploit gullibility. They are NEVER wrong (at least to themselves), even when they really are.
Worst is when they continue their behaviour, whether you engage or not. They stalk you.
It gets worse and worse because they use all forms of illegal stuff to hack, doxx, and cause harm. They won’t stop till you’re either gone from the internet or end your life.
whether u say something or stay silent, it doesn’t matter. Silence does not stop them, just like how they do not care for actual facts
They will do whatever gets into their insane minds regardless of what you do or don’t do
They HATE when their target stands strong n doesn’t cave or gets folks who stand up for them. This is their Achilles heel.
This is why supporting their behaviour only makes things worse. They gain their strength from n thrive off of the popularity they are able to garner.
They especially love when they are fed anything they can easily perceive as negative, whether it is factual or not. They will make up false narratives and fake evidence to fill in the blanks as they deem necessary. Logic plays no role. It’s all about manipulation and gaslighting.
That’s all they do is fight people
Image from https://www.tumblr.com/xxs1lv3rm00n/770545955838787584/your-repulsion-amuses-me-greatly
(THEY ARE INNOCENT, I JUST WANT TO CREDIT THEN FOR THEIR ART)

Also, if THIS is the behaviour that is fostered and encouraged at these events, I don’t want to be part of such vile toxicity anyway. They’ve done me a favour. Additionally, if you are someone who supports their actions, I don’t want to have anything to do with you, I do NOT need to interact with you. I have plenty of witnesses - both online and in real life who can vouch for me innocence. I don’t need a cult of personality who feed off delusional behaviour. YOU ARE THE ONES WHO NEED TO SEEK SERIOUS MENTAL HEALTH HELP.
With that being said, apparently this type of harassment is common place now. It should NEVER be tolerated. As such, I’m posting this petition so our voices of reason may be heard and so that we may get justice. This also helps the aid going to those who genuinely need it, instead of scammers and other extortionists.
If you are someone who is enduring this sort of unwarranted harassment for sticking up for what’s right, please sign the petition. We also have a private invite -only community for those who have been victimised like this.
Also, here are examples of the white knights and their toxic false allegations, accusations, and toxic behavior (in the blog links) so you know what to look for.

just don’t understand why u keep saying you’ve gone off daniel because of ‘what he said/did earlier in the season’ yet ur perfectly happy to write for lando who also made questionable comments idk just feels hypocritical. what made landos comments ok but daniels so horrid lol it makes no sense 👍 if u want to be a daniel hater just come out and say it instead of being all coy about it and pretending like ur not being weird about it cause u say u won’t write for him and then u update ur layout and put up a picture of it lmao so which is it
i don’t know if this is the same anon that’s been sending me shit every second day for months about this - i’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say it’s not because of the way you’ve typed this out but the message is still the same and this is the last straw.
i don’t hate daniel. if you look at my last post i said that he’s a big part of why i fell in love with f1. he was also the reason i started this blog so just because i’m not writing for him now, doesn’t mean i hate him. it’s not as black and white for me as it seems to be for you.
writing doesn’t define my blog - its something i do when i feel like it and most of the time i’m either chatting with you guys on here or supporting other writers. it was a fun escape but lately it’s been the opposite of that.
people may not like this but in my opinion daniels comments were significantly more damaging than landos vague response to a question that nobody could factually corroborate. i don’t think i’m alone in thinking that. daniel straight up said the one thing i personally hate the most when someone’s defending an abuser which is, “well [insert name] has always been good to me so…” that’s what upset me the most and now i have no desire to write for him. that is simply how i feel and if you don’t agree/understand, it’s all good. try and find other blogs who do share your views. makes life a lot easier.
anyway, did daniels comments make me want to erase every trace of him from my blog? no but i made it clear that i wouldn’t be writing for him for the foreseeable future and if anything changed, i would give people the heads up. what i absolutely won’t be doing is caving in to bullies who hide behind a shadow on the fucking internet who say i that i should delete my blog and myself while i’m at it.
so the context of why i made a header with daniel in it was that i thought including him would allow people the chance to bounce if they don’t want to read any daniel fics or interact with a blog that had a lot of daniel content in the past - people hate him and have made sure to tell me how fucked i am to still have his fics in my masterlist. thats the sort of hate that really gets to me because i’m so proud of some of those fics and spent a lot of time on them. that’s one reason why I won’t ever delete them but it’s also because there are daniel fans out there who hopefully feel like they can still interact with me even if we don’t share the exact same opinion. i don’t want that to change.
another thing to note is that this header was up for like two seconds and the fact you saw it must mean you’re just stalking my page? are you checking in to call me out the second i do something wrong? and you think i’m weird? alright lol
lastly, saying i’m being coy and weird isn’t fair - i’ve been honest about where i stand and even when i’ve been unsure, i was still being upfront and owning the fact that i didn’t know what direction this blog would take after all that. so if what i’ve said in this post or in the past isn’t enough for you, then just leave please. literally leave me alone because i don’t want to do this anymore.

sorry for being the billionth person making a post abt barbie. also sorry this post is sooo long I have a lot to say. disclaimer: I am saying words recreationally, don't take any of this too seriously pls!!
a strongly anticapitalist feminist friend invited me to see the movie in a theatre. I was intrigued as to why she would suggest that so I accepted. she said she invited me bc she wanted to see how I would react and what I would think, which I find funny lol
good movie to discuss with friends and people you know in real life around a drink etc. but NOT on the internet. (this is perhaps the most important point I really want to stress that)
any criticism of mattel by mattel (who pockets revenues from the movie) has no value to me
great movie to practice your hater skills. the balance of good stuff and bad stuff is amazing to keep your haterism skills sharp lol
my biggest gripes with the movie
I don't like how Sasha's character (pre-teen who hates barbie and seems to dislike her mom but gets closer to her during the movie) was handled.
First, her very factual and true concerns over capitalism and self-image related to barbie are never explored or taken into actual consideration. throughout the movie she's urged to understand her mother more but her efforts are not reciprocated.
Second, I am sooo deeply tired of teens being depicted as angry for no reasons. like wooow you're growing up and now you hate me, your super cool and understanding mother :((( it's always deeper than this if your kid dislikes you. this stuff always get an eye roll from me sorry
overall the feminism sucked so just quickly: patriarchy is presented as an individual force rather than a systemic one, no mention of race/age/class/sexual orientation etc. etc. etc. only misogyny but the world doesn't work like that
on that topic btw I didn't like how weird barbie (virtually the only gnc barbie) is only here to repair other barbies and make them whole again and doesn't exist outside of that. how fitting lollll
also seeing sasha go from 'I hate barbie and societal expectations' to 'barbie is my friend I'm wearing pink now' was kinda sad. gnc girls and girls who aren't girls I love you. in itself this trajectory isn't necessarily bad but on a personal level it just felt wrong.
it is an ok point of entry/conversation starters for feminist concerns if you're really on ground 0
forever my biggest gripe with the movie is how marketed it was and how it's made to sell me products. any feminism that attempts to grab my wallet isn't feminism I'm interested in
three really distasteful moments that stood out to me:
indigenous catching smallpox joke -> just shut the fuck up incredibly inappropriate and violent.
'to show how our character becomes human, we show she's going to the obgyn hihi' not funny didn't laugh it felt bioessentialist and to have it be the closing scene of the movie was just a bad move (to me at least but more on that later lol)
'margot robbie might not be the best person to deliver a message about how women shouldn't feel pressure to feel beautiful hihi' yeah she's not. congrats on making money by centering a beautiful skinny white woman and telling the audience you did it on purpose
lighthearted stuff
the music was fun I like how they used it throughout the movie
the costumes looked good, the film was pretty and I liked the acting it looked like they had fun filming
it was a real 'oh I get it now' moment when I saw 2ft margot robbie on the screen. she is attractive I can see it now
not related but it was kinda like straight people camp lol
the final scene (aka my other biggest gripe with the movie but it gets a section to itself)
women go to the obgyn hihihihi. ok first of all cool welcome to one of the most central sphere to violence against women. second going to the obgyn isn't a universal experience for women for many, many reasons. third ig it was a joke that fits the humorous tone of the movie but it didn't land for me.
ALSO. they already had the perfect ending (imo) with the pink birkenstocks!! early in the movie she has to make a choice between pretty pink heels and ugly brown sandals. we see her at the end wearing pink sandals. having her picking her new shoes would show she journey she's been on much better than the obgyn joke imo!!!
Anyways here are my thoughts. I'd be interested to know what you think abt these points or if you felt this way when watching the movie too, although honestly I feel like online settings are less than ideals to talk abt that. I wouldn't say I hated the movie (despite what the post might suggest lol) I don't regret seeing it. at least the movie made me want to talk about it and clarify some feelings I have after watching it, which is always something even if I disliked many things abt it!
#didn't think I'd have so much to say BUT I am a hater and a lover which makes me talkative. sorry#also worth saying if you are not following me pleaaaaase don't engage with this post that would be super appreciated!!

I'm aware that some of you out there can get very overwhelmed by seeing a lot of text, and because of that; I usually put gifs, photos, or other types of illustrations so that you can at least not only find the post appealing, but also to imagine the context more in a clear view point.
I want to avoid using art as much as possible because I can not always know if that artist exists on this platform or just don't want their artwork being posted on other people's blogs. Also, there are at times art where they don't even have the initials on them, so that makes it extra hard in order to identify to original creator, and sometimes, people will accidentally credit the wrong creator. Or even worse, assume that it came from an anathor person because of how they repeated it louder, making them get the attention of it.
One good example is the Joker Akusa meme. It is no mere lazy Photoshop, it is an actual digital drawing that took a lot of time and effort. If it wasn’t for people who created bootleg stickers of that meme whilst also crediting Harmva (Vladimir Guschin) or even a YouTuber named Nick Robinson, who cared enough to do some proper research, so many individuals might not have known he was the one who made it.
I've also myself been stolen of artwork that I used to do in my free time, simply because I didn't think people would think it was all that good. And because of that, I feel deeply regretful for not thinking that my art held any value to it. Of course, it was nowhere near popular artists on the internet or how others were so robbed because of it, but I still think about it from time to time. Especially since that I gave them away as a present to hold dear, not to use to show off the skills that you don't have.
So I definitely relate to those artists, and when folks come rushing in to tell me to leave credits, because I have either forgotten or just missed it, I won't get angry over it, I will take full responsibility for that mistake, since that's on me to make sure to use sources ethically. Same thing when it comes to writing my stories, using proper research, and not information based on somebody's opinions. Because if you're going to write a character or a world, you have to do it right. If you're going to write a character that's supposed to be different, then at least try to make it accurate. That's the one thing me and my friend (Vividly_Changing) can agree on that it's lazy research, or dare I even say, lack of care of what's factual and what's a bunch of nonsense if you don't do those sorts of efforts.
There will be times when Tumbler users will definitely scold or get aggressive with me for putting up art on my posts that aren't mine, I don't think anybody could avoid hate comments or mean commentary forever. But I plead with you to do it in a more mature level, and not use such a harmful language, especially to those you don't know. Unlike me, who can handle some strong responses, there are people whose mental health isn't so good, and will choose to take self-harm because of those remarks.
I don't care how much you'll try to insult me, but I care deeply for those who don't know any better and are just starting out on Tumbler, like how I was. Hell, I'm technically still a new user because there are a lot of things I don't know about this platform, so I'm still trying to navigate some things through. Like learning about booping, or that there are children who are going through hard times right now, and is using Tumbler as a sort of escapism. Just because you are anonymous on the internet, does not give you the authority to act like a high and mighty jerk.
Stay safe out there, creators.

I'm all caught up now
Tuesday October 8th 2024
My name is Bea Banis, and today is October 8th, 2024. I'm 24 years old. I have a degree in music education, but I don't have a job.
This is my journal.
I've tried journaling before, but I've always had a really hard time. I have an expectation for what journaling is supposed to be, and I couldn't keep up with that standard. If I'm not writing comprehensive, interesting stories about my daily life that is simultaneously accurate and thought-provoking, I don't see the point. If it's not regularly updated, then I don't even want to try. Writing everyday is hard for me, so I would try to make myself feel better by saying things like, "It doesn't need to everyday, just when you have time," or "It's only for when you want to express yourself, it doesn't need to be perfect." Unfortunately, that was always a gateway thought to just not journaling at all.
There's definitely something wrong with my brain.
But I can type really fast. I was the fastest typer in my class when we still used to have computer technology classes. We would have different lessons where we were just supposed to work on a typing program. A boy that I really hated tried to gloat he had the fastest typing speed, but I got to shut him down because factually, my typing was literally faster, and I had literal proof on a certificate that you got after doing a typing assessment.
So journaling on the computer helps a little bit, because my hands won't hurt as much, and I can write a lot more.
But I still could fall off because, well, I'll forget about it. And once I don't do it once, it's hard to continue. So we'll see how it goes this time around.
I guess the journal existing on the internet helps too, because it's not like loosing a journal in a bookshelf and forgetting it's there, or leaving it in a bag you don't use anymore.
They say people with ADHD have problems with object permanence. But the internet is permanently there, for now. I always know how to get here.
Right now I'm unemployed. I was working for a locally owned cafe, but they were having problems with their landlord. It's a really long story that I can't accurately write out that well. Just trust me, they had to leave their current facility. They're in the process of moving to another location, but until then I'm in limbo with the cafe. I can come back once they reopen the new location, but we don't know when that will be. It was supposed to be maybe a month and half, but it's been much longer.
I also work for a couple marching bands as an instructor. You get paid a little bit, but it's not the same as having a real job. It's more like grocery money. It would be more if we were in another state, because schools are just not well funded here.
One of my schools is on fall break right now, which is really nice, but not really, because they're hosting a competition this Saturday. So they're having rehearsal on Friday to make up for it. Because they're not rehearsing today or tomorrow like they normally are, I get to go to an extra rehearsal at my other school. I really like this school, because it's a smaller program but the kids are amazing. I really like what I do, and it's hard to think about exploring other careers because I don't want to give up doing it, in case the schedule is more extensive.
'So I get to go to rehearsal today, which I'm excited about. I really like the other percussion instructor. They're like another slightly deranged family member that I never had. They're really good at percussion and they also have ADHD, probably, just like everyone else in my family. So I think we get along pretty well. I don't always agree with everything he does, but their reasons are sound and they're actually the head instructor, because they'So I get to go to rehearsal today, which I'm excited about. I really like the other percussion instructor. They're like another slightly deranged family member that I never had. I don't always agree with everything he does, but their reasons are sound and they're actually the head instructor, because they've been there longer than me.
I'm going to call them Mason.
I care about them a lot. I used to think I had a crush on them, but I've learned that I can't ever shoot my shot with anyone or bad things happen. I didn't even want to tell people when I started developing feelings because I believed it would curse me. I still kind of think that's a thing. I might still have a crush on them, but since I'm increasingly more aware of my asexuality, I can't trust that this crush was ever anything other than deeply platonic. Or, if it is romantic, the relationship couldn't really be anything but platonic. Because they're not asexual, and I happen to know that they do like sex.
I don't hate sex. I think it's interesting. I think it does feel good, and it's certainly a fun bonding activity. But in my own personal experience, it never really feels like much more than that... just another activity. Occasionally, it's more like a chore. And I hate that I feel like that, especially in regards to whoever I'm in a relationship with. So, whoever wants to date me has to just be ok with that, or they shouldn't ever bother.
Initially I tried to get Mason to hang out with me a lot. I figured it was a fun case study in rejection exposure. I just had to be ok with if they said no. But in general, we hung out a few times by ourselves. I figured I could use the energy from my platonic crush to get to know them a lot better. We saw a few movies, hung out at a few bars. Sometimes I found myself wondering if maybe they also liked me more than platonically, but I figured perhaps this is just what friendship should be. Additionally, they sometimes were going on dates with people they met on hinge. So if they were really looking to date, and they liked me, they probably would've said something about that.
I worry about Mason a lot. I guess that comes with the territory of being invested in someone's wellbeing. They had a terrible break up last year, and despite telling me all the incredibly awful things their ex did, they're still in love with them. I told them I would egg their house. Mason says it was a really good relationship. I don't believe them.
But I might be projecting. I also had a really good relationship that ended really badly a couple years ago. It's easy to still see the good when you were on the inside and ignore the bad. It's a lot easier to see the bad when you're on the outside, for both of us.
If given the opportunity, I think I would like to be with Mason. But it wouldn't look like a typical romantic relationship. Really, I want to be with someone who is my best friend, my house-mate, a life-partner, maybe we could have sex, if it came down to it. I don't think it would even matter what gender that person is. I've only ever had sex with one person, and they just happened to be a boy. I think I would enjoy sex with a girl or nonbinary person just as much, which, if you remember, isn't really that much at all.
Anyways, they can't know anything about this, or else it would ruin everything, and they would think I'm really weird.
This morning my sister and I woke up early because our mother showed up to the house at 8 am.
We live in our grandparent's old house, and both of them are dead, but they paid off the mortgage before they did, and now we live in their house. But we're slowly coming up with little renovations, and most of them are scheduled by our mom or dad. This week, she wants to get a new security screen on our front windows.
She showed up just so she'd be present when the worker is here to measure the windows and give an estimate. But she ended up leaving anyways, so it didn't matter.
She does that a lot.
Some say it's good parenting, but I saw it more akin to helicopter parenting.
Especially now that my sister and I are adults closer to 30 than being teenagers.
It's kind of nice that we have a house and are living on our own for free. But I just see it as another way that we're complacent with being coddled. We're self-sufficient, but in a really really fake way. There's no real adulthood here, and it feels bad sometimes.
I could also think about it like we're back in the 1800s again. Family estates and finances would be managed for the whole family by the head of the household until the next heir to the house was married and took the title, or until the previous head died. So if we were in Bridgerton right now, this would be a perfectly average arrangement.
But my dad is 70, and this is not Brigerton, and I am not merely a spinster.
More to come,
nonbeas

Take Responsibility & Be a Change Agent
Don’t get trapped in the depressive postmodern mindset that believes that modern Western societies are the most terrible calamity to befall human beings.
While this negation is a vital evolutionary mechanism, that doesn’t mean it’s factually true or immune to a shift of context. This belief makes you feel disempowered when in reality you have enormous power, and bummed out when you should feel brilliantly abundant.
You’re not just a postmodern hippy that hates capitalism because it suits you. No, you’re here to move the tide of evolution into new territory. Without you and people like you, humanity will remain stuck.
So stop focusing on what’s wrong with the present monetary system, and look forward to what could become. Then make a commitment to be an agent in that evolution, deliberately pushing it forward.
Your responsibility is to create a career that does genuine good for the world. That’s how you overcome the problem of having high ideals but feeling incapable of fully living them. I can’t deeply unpack the process involved in creating a passionate career, but I will give you some ideas to guide and inspire you.
Entrepreneurship is a great option given the creativity and freedom it enables you to have. And with the advent of the internet, a portal to the global economy you can access from your home, as well as the sheer number of human beings on the planet and the number of those who are highly developed, creating a fulfilling business founded on high ideals is very doable.
I myself have chosen to go down the entrepreneurship route. In the brief time I’ve been working on my projects, include this blog, I’ve experienced profound personal change. I feel deeply empowered, my self-governance has reached a new level, and I’ve learned several new skills.
The creativity component is exceptionally important to me. My customers and I myself are my only immediate sources of accountability: there’s no bosses or company politics involved. And I can dream of how I could expand what I do almost without limits; my projects can evolve and grow as I do.
I can also be creative with my schedule. I choose when I work, when I play, and when I rest, optimising my choices based on my natural cycles of energy and motivation. And if I need to dedicate more time to my personal development or hobbies, I do. Now I can’t imagine being obliged to spend certain hours of the day at my desk by a boss who has little concern for my levels of motivation or state of mind.
Entrepreneurship also fits well with my personality traits. Among other quirks, I have a growth mindset, high self-discipline, a strong will, and I’m quite introverted. Working on my own, deciding my hours and setting my own targets, accountable to nobody other than those I serve, suits me to a tee.
But creating a passionate career doesn’t necessarily imply entrepreneurship. You can also go down the employment route. Nowadays there is an increasing number of companies generating their cash through altruistic means, and you could offer your services to them.
I don’t mean charity work or care work, either. I mean high-earning, high-impact work. Freelancing or remote working are also options that allow you more flexibility.

intellectually sound
Michael Smith
Without revealing their identity, a lifelong friend of mine, someone who lived just across the holler from my old home place in the Magnolia State, mentioned this earlier this morning:
“I just mentioned to someone that a friend of mine was in the Galapagos, and their response was “what’s that?” There seems to be no such thing as a common body of knowledge in our culture anymore—things you can expect everyone with walking around sense to know. Sometimes I feel like my whole life is an episode of Jaywalking with Leno, which I always assumed was staged. Apparently not.”
At the risk of falling into the crevasse of that common body of knowledge, “Jaywalking” was Jay Leno (an ancient late-night talk show host that was funny) doing “man on the street” interviews of random people about current events and personalities in the news. As my friend noted, sometimes the answers were, how shall we say, uninformed.
In my opinion, the lack of a common body of knowledge is not only an aggravation, but also a chasm that prevents common understanding of this world – and if we don’t have a common understanding of the world, there is little we can do because opposition becomes a matter of ignorance rather than principle.
There was a knock-down, drag-out funny video on Twitter this morning, apparently a serious one, in which a lefty social media star called PoliticsGirl who claims she just doesn’t understand why people still vote for Republicans – and as par for the course – continues talking long enough to show you why.
She is completely ignorant. 100% weapons grade dumbass.
She is not ignorant because she doesn’t know stuff, but recalling what President Reagan said about liberals, she is supremely confident about things she “knows” but is entirely (and provably) wrong about. Her entire knowledge base rests on lies, bigotries and bogeymen the media and Democrats have designed and labeled for her to hate. She's a nice little useful idiot, with the emphasis on idiot.
Since I have friends who egg me on to torment you with my thoughts, another friend emailed something to me – a 2019 article titled “Thoughts on Prosperity from a Hipster Coffee Shop”, written by a former college student by the name of Alyssa Ahlgren, who was in grad school pursuing her MBA at the time. Of her generation, she says:
“We are so well off here in the United States that our poverty line begins 31 times above the global average. Thirty. One. Times. Virtually no one in the United States is considered poor by global standards. Yet, in a time where we can order a product off Amazon with one click and have it at our doorstep the next day, we are unappreciative, unsatisfied, and ungrateful.
Our unappreciation is evident as the popularity of socialist policies among my generation continues to grow. Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently said to Newsweek talking about the millennial generation, "An entire generation, which is now becoming one of the largest electorates in America, came of age and never saw American prosperity."
Never saw American prosperity! Let that sink in. When I first read that statement, I thought to myself, that was quite literally the most entitled and factually illiterate thing I've ever heard in my 26 years on this earth… [M]y generation has only seen prosperity. We have no contrast. We didn't live in the great depression, or live through two world wars, the Korean War, The Vietnam War or see the rise and fall of socialism and communism. We don't know what it's like to live without the internet, without cars, without smartphones. We don't have a lack of prosperity problem. We have an entitlement problem, an ungratefulness problem, and it's spreading like a plague."
So, another case of know-nothings, but this time about life.
It is a frame of reference thing. When a certain frame of reference exists for long enough without challenge, people seem to forget what it took to create that framing.
I think that this, beyond wars and natural disasters, is the real root cause (somebody call the Vice President) for the fall of civilizations. We forget so much that we don’t realize we don’t know what we don’t know anymore.
And that is why our young like AOC but neither understand nor oppose the stupidity of Marxism.
I know I have said it before, but the greatest fallacy people believe is that because something as always been a certain way for them, it will always be that way. Humans fight to climb Maslow’s hierarchy one rung at a time, but there are no guarantees they won’t slip and fall all the way to the bottom, and all at once.
So, Michael, what do we do? That is most certainly the inevitable question.
I’m not sure we can do anything until a catastrophe of such Malthusian proportions befalls our civilization (or at least our corner of it) that society in general either remembers history or realizes they must set about relearning it.
This is not something an individual can change; this is a social learning experience, a situation where many, many people say “Oh, sh*t!” at the same time. It must be broad and deep enough to completely reset our references by reframing them, maybe not to zero, but to something that approximates it.
Only then will the important things in life be appreciated enough to study and learn about, thereby rebuilding that common body of knowledge.
As Alanis Morrissette (who was a hipster coffee shop favorite) once sang:
You grieve, you learn
You choke, you learn
You laugh, you learn
You choose, you learn
You pray, you learn
You ask, you learn
You live, you learn.
Oh, yeah. If you don’t know who Alanis Morrissette is, go ask your mom.

The Negatives of Social Media

Feeling Connected in Social Media
As we discussed last week, social media can be a great place for us to connect with other like-minded individuals. Whether we are searching for support groups, new books to read, or design inspiration, social media has something for everyone. Please see lasts weeks post on feeling connected in social media where I expanded on this topic as well as the idea of homophily in social media. https://www.tumblr.com/socialmediaanxiety/727472893301325824/welcome-to-the-internet-take-a-look-around?source=share

The Algorithm and Cognitive Biases
Also, in the discussion from last week, we talked about the algorithms in social media and how they work. The purpose of the algorithm is to figure out what we like and send us content and ads based on those likes and interest and even suggest new topics based on our preferences. The more you interact, the more the algorithm learns about you. On the surface, this seems great. No one wants to scroll through 25 videos or posts they have no interest in just to find one they do. But not everyone is searching puppy videos all day long. Political extremism, hate speech, homophobia, and religious extremism seem to be at an all-time high lately. When people with these extremist views interact with this content online, the algorithm does the same as it does for everyone else, keeps sending them more and more of this content. If this is all you are seeing when you log on, it becomes hard to climb back out the rabbit hole. Your confirmation bias has taken over, leaving little room for critical thinking.

Avoiding the Echo Chamber
When talking about media and content consumption, an “echo chamber” refers to someone who only consumes content that confirms their beliefs, whether they are correct or not. With social media and its algorithms, it’s easy to get sucked into the echo chamber. To avoid this, it is important that we consume content outside of our beliefs. How can you unbiasedly look at a situation if you are only viewing one side of the argument? For a lot of people, it’s really hard to accept or listen to another’s viewpoint, especially when it’s something that goes against something they believe in so deeply. Critical thinking is so important when consuming any media, not just online. Always ask questions and verify the information you are getting is factual. Just because it is coming from a source you may trust, doesn’t mean there isn’t an ulterior motive behind it. Most importantly, I think we should always seek out information from people with different lived experiences and viewpoints than us. Not everyone experiences the world the way we do and just because someone’s experience is different than yours doesn’t make it wrong.

Jesus, some people on here are just messed up, like I'm just bored clicking around get on this one person's account bout to go back cause boring boring boring...
Like holy fucking
This was one of the most half incoherent bat shit rant I've read in a while, that left me feeling confused upset and like unfairly attacked,
Like they start off being pissy about '21 somethings who can buy weed legally'
And then jumps to us in Colorado specifically,
Which starts to piss me off right there I love my state, as much as I get wanderlust time to time and like to try living elsewhere I'm born an raised like I wanna say fifth generation? Coloradan
This is my home,
It's one thing when people make Mile 'high' jokes those are usually in good humor and I think they're funny,
But this person just going off about us in particular about how 'easy' we got it
Oh I'm sorry how easy 21 somethings got it cause apparently they don't realize us 'old' folk also buy the legal drugs,
And all our options and how people from their state are coming here and bring our 'poison' into their state,
The 'poison' they apparently are so pissed they don't have easy access to, 👀
And how their state could have make much better 'poison' 😕
And then I think it stopped with wishing we all get hit in the head with a hammer!?!?!
I mean sorry to clog up y'all's dash with this but I really gotta vent on this cause of all the fucking things to go off about,
And specifically all the things about Cannabis to go off about,
Like that there are still people in prison in legalized states for cannabis charges,
That we still haven't dropped calling it marijuana despite the racist origins of that name (mind you I still fuck up and call it that too sometimes,)
The whole bat shit 'marijuana' plot that sounds like it should be a cooky conspiracy that is 100% factual,
But instead this person is getting pissed cause it's legal in my state,
First off asshole Colorado isn't the only legalized state,
Next even if it was, guess what dickhead I can't control your state,
mine voted it into law to legalize cannabis and I'm super proud of that,
Um also just cause it's legal dose not equal easy, you have to have cash, and it's not fucking cheap,
I've been experimenting with cannabis edibles and have been finding how amazingly helpful it is for me,
I have a shit load 'wrong' with me that's undiagnosed will remain so, and even if I was diagnosed and looking into meds they likely wouldn't work for me, I have something wrong with me that taking any kind of medication more then a couple days even as prescribed down to the exact hour, fucks me up,
I get start getting really bad side effects like day three, I was on fucking aspirin for a bit while super sick a few years ago I got tendinitis so bad I wanted to die for like two days,
I've even avoided being on shit what's the anti pregnancy pill called, um fuck, I've avoided it cause im not having sex and my periods are real good, I worry what I'll do if I ever get into a romantic relationship with a dude, probably will only be able to be with someone whose clipped,
I was on sleeping pills for a bit, one of the side effects was suicidal thoughts, guess who got that and all the fucking other ones, including dry mouth so bad I thought I'd die,
For some reason cannabis doesn't fuck me up at all, it helps it really fucking helps me even if I'm on it a lot,
It's the only thing that has ever fucking made my mind a not just okay place to be, but a great one,
And money is right so I can't have like constant access to it, I may at some point be able to get it at all,
And this dickhead thinks I should get a hammer to the head!?!
I try to let internet stuff slide off me but fuck if reading that didn't just royally upset me,
Just, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, you pig fucking, dildo humping, cum sucking bag of broken sticks shit on by cats with the runs, mother fucker,
hope you step on cat shit every day of your life and that your hated by corvids everywhere,
Okay I feel better and yes I did block them they had another post that seemed a bit suspect especially after reading that post and no I didn't say shit to them what's the point
Edit looked at it again, it was ceiling fan fall on your head not hammer

debunking pro-snape/anti-james arguments and putting it on the internet because clearly i hate myself. buckle up. this is gonna be a VERY long post. im ready for the amount of hate i will get; im willing to take one for the team.
1. james forced lily into dating/marrying/etc him
this literally never happened? because its almost as if lily is her own person who is able to stand up for herself-
“I wouldn’t go out with you if it was a choice between you and the giant squid,” said Lily.
“LEAVE HIM ALONE!” Lily shouted. She had her own wand out now. James and Sirius eyed it warily.
She turned on her heel and hurried away [from james].
-and so she would not allow someone to walk all over her. its almost as if james (canonically) matured as a person, and she appreciated this, realised he was a good person and got feelings for him? because james’ only negative traits were that he was conceited and a show off. people are able to mature and grow from these things! james did this! he did not ‘force’ lily to go out with him!
2. james and the other marauders bullied snape
you know what, i cant even disagree with this one. you’re right - they did bully him. but lets look a little bit at the context.
sirius and james were both upper class, naive white rich boys. they are idiots. they were both stupid smart teenagers!! they were popular! and while this does not excuse the gross bullying snape was subject to-
Pink soap bubbles streamed from Snape’s mouth at once; the froth was covering his lips, making him gag, choking him
Several people watching laughed; Snape was clearly unpopular ... Snape was trying to get up, but the jinx was still operating on him; he was struggling, as though bound by invisible ropes.
-it (unfortunately) makes sense with context. james and sirius also stopped bullying people, and even expressed discomfort/regret with the way they acted-
“I’m not proud of it,” said Sirius quickly.
“Of course he was a bit of an idiot!” said Sirius bracingly, “we were all idiots!
[sirius talking to remus] you made us feel ashamed of ourselves sometimes
A lot of people are idiots at the age of fifteen. He grew out of it.
-when they were younger! i’d also like to point out these little lines i noticed when i was finding quotes for my argument which snape stans like to ignore:
James and Snape hated each other from the moment they set eyes on each other
I mean, he [snape] never lost an opportunity to curse James
there was a flash of light and a gash appeared on the side of James’s face, spattering his robes with blood
wow, look at that. the hate they felt for each other was mutual! snape also jinxed james! but oh wait - james was the one who matured! snape was the one who bullied his son twenty years later because he looked like james!
3. snape didnt abuse the kids at hogwarts
here’s a real argument i saw when looking through some pro-snape posts: ‘snape wasn’t an abuser, because abusers don’t let their victims retaliate, but snape did let the kids talk back to him’
what. the. fuck?!
this is the dictionary.com definition of abuse: ‘to treat in a harmful, injurious, or offensive way’ or ‘to speak insultingly, harshly, and unjustly to or about’. i’m pretty sure snape did both of these things-
“I don’t need help from filthy little Mudbloods like her!”
“So,” said Snape, gripping Harry’s arm so tightly Harry’s hand was starting to feel numb.
Snape threw Harry from him with all his might.
[hermione’s teeth] "I see no difference."
‘Idiot boy!’ snarled Snape [at neville]
-on multiple occasions. i’d also like to remind you guys that neville’s worst fear is SNAPE?! his TEACHER, a figure that is supposed to be there for emotional and educational support is his worst fear in this entire world?! above the woman who drove his parents to insanity? over failure, over his abusive grandmother, over everything? his teacher? and for the pro-snaper that used this quote-
Nearly everyone laughed. Even Neville grinned apologetically.
-to claim that it was a joke, it isn’t a joke. because when snape came out of that cupboard, he was terrified. yes, it’s an embarrassing thing to have as your boggart, but the point is is that it is. he is terrified of that man.
4. james only joined the order because his wife was a muggleborn and he ‘had to’
this is just factually incorrect. james had been sticking up for muggleborn rights since he was in school, far before he started dating or even became friends with lily:
“Apologize to Evans!” James roared at Snape, his wand pointed threateningly at him.
“I’d NEVER call you a - you-know-what!”
so this is literally not true!! plus, at least he did join the order, whatever his reasons where (which were canonically good). snape didnt join the order. snape was friends with someone who suffered discrimination in society, and instead of using his privilege to help her and support her, he joined a group that was set on murdering people like her. when james had a friend who underwent oppression (remus/lycanthropy) you know what he did? he illegally became an animagus.
5. snape had to be a death eater to survive at hogwarts as he roomed with blood supremacists
this is the shittiest excuse i have ever seen in my entire life. as a poc, this comment really reminds me of the argument ‘i was raised in a racist white household! i cant control my beliefs!’
you can always control your beliefs. i understand not going on big rants about blood inequality in front of a bunch of supremacists, and i understand wanting to blend and fit in (especially because he was unpopular and needed the support the slytherin boys provided), but i will never understand then becoming an active member of the group yourself. he got the dark mark. he helped voldemort. he was a death eater, and a proud one at that! no-one forced him to join. this argument literally makes my blood boil.
6. snape had a lot of trauma from being raised in an abusive household
okay? so did sirius. so did neville. luna was bullied at school, just like snape. harry lived in an abusive household. did any of those people bully children? did any of those people join a blood supremacist group? and dont get me wrong, im not calling any of these people perfect - they all had a lot of flaws - but none of them hurt another people to the extreme that snape did.
7. snape saved the trio’s lives many times
this is the absolute bare minimum. ‘oh wow, he didnt let harry die!! what a king! he should be respected and praised! we should excuse all of his other actions because he didnt let people die <3′
8. snape is not a perfect person, he also did good that many people overlook
you’re right, snape did do some good things in his life. but unfortunately, for me and many others, doing a couple of good things doesnt excuse all of the shitty, abusive things he did too. we’re not ignoring them - we just dont think they’re good enough reasons to forgive him.
‘but james and sirius hurt others! you ignore all the bad things they did in favour of the good!’ you do the same thing with snape, first of all. second, they did a lot of good stuff. james’ and sirius’ only crimes were being annoying. for being a bit of a dick, conceited, knew they were hot and were a bit entitled. while these things are annoying as fuck, they were also stupid teens that eventually grew out of their behaviour and became better people. not perfect! better. while snape just stayed bitter at the marauders, long after their deaths, and even took his anger out on an innocent child.
9. people only hate snape because he was poc and queer coded
as a poc and queer person, please stop. this is a very bad excuse. being poc and queer (which im pretty sure he isnt, but anyway) doesnt excuse you from your actions. plus, a huge amount of harry potter readers are poc and lgbtq. why would they hate snape for those reasons?!
so thats all i got for today. im not gonna go into a deep snily/jily thing because i literally cannot be bothered. anyway im done. i need to go revise, i’ve already spent long enough on this.
#i wanted to put this in the pro snape tag#but i will be slandered so much if i do#hate on me if you want i dont care#harry potter#the marauders#james potter#pro james potter#sirius black#remus lupin#peter pettigrew#anti severus snape#long rant#lily evans#jily#flowerpott#anti snily#wolfstar

Facebook algorithm boosts pro-Facebook news

Facebook is a rotten company, rotten from the top down, its founder, board and top execs are sociopaths and monsters, committers of non-hyperbolic, no-fooling crimes against humanity. They lie, they cheat, they steal. They are some of history’s greatest villains. Because Facebook is a terrible company run by terrible people, it periodically erupts in ghastly scandal. Sometimes whistleblowers or reporters reveal historic crimes, including (but not limited to) deliberately helping to foment genocide.
Sometimes, the scandals are contemporary: either Facebook blithely announces it’s going to do something terrible, or we learn of some terrible thing underway from leaks or investigations.
Thanks to a history of anticompetitive mergers — Whatsapp, Instagram, Onavo and more — based on fraudulent promises to antitrust regulators, Facebook has grown to nearly three billion users — except FB doesn’t have users, really — it has hostages.
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2020/07/dont-believe-proven-liars-absolute-minimum-standard-prudence-merger-scrutiny
As Facebook’s own internal memos show, the company doesn’t just buy up competitors so users have nowhere to flee to, it also engineers in high “switching costs” to make it more painful to leave the system.
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2021/08/facebooks-secret-war-switching-costs
For example, Facebook’s internal memos show that the manager for its photo products set out to seduce users into entrusting FB with their family photos, because that way quitting Facebook would mean abandoning your memories of your kids, departed grandparents, etc.
Everybody hates Facebook, especially FB users. The point of high switching costs, after all, is to increase the pain of leaving so that FB can dole out more abuse to its users without fearing that they’ll quit the whole enterprise.
FB’s mission is to increase the size of the shit-sandwich they can force you to eat before you walk away. But they’re not mere sadists: shit-sandwiches have a business model: the more hostages they take, the more they can extract from advertisers — their true customers.
The polite term for what FB has is a “two-sided market” (selling advertisers to users and users to advertisers). The technical term is “a monopoly and a monoposony” (a monopsony is a market with a single buyer).
The colloquial term?
“A racket.”
A scam. A bezzle. A blight.
Facebook gouges advertisers on rate cards, then lies about the reach of its ads (like when it lied about the popularity of video, evincing a media-wide “pivot to video” that bankrupted dozens of news- and entertainment-sites).
Facebook didn’t set out to destroy journalism by price-fixing ads, lying to advertisers and media outlets.
FB set out to acquire a monopoly and extract monopoly rents from advertisers and publishers, with a pathological indifference to how these frauds would harm others.
Having shown a willingness to destroy journalists and media outlets to extract a few more billions for its shareholders, Facebook has attracted a lot of enemies in the media.
If you’re a whistleblower with a story to tell, there’s a journalist whose editor will allocate the resources to report your story out in depth. The combination of a rotten company and a lot of pissed off journalists produces a lot of bad ink for the company.
But the fact remains that FB has a vast pool of hostages, billions of them, and it gets to decide what they see, when and how. I used to joke with my human rights activist friends that the best use for Facebook was showing people why and how to leave Facebook.
FB’s response was predictable. As Ryan Mac and Sheera Frenkel write in the New York Times, FB’s Project Amplify is a Zuckerberg-led initiative to systematically promote positive coverage of FB and its founder — including articles that originate with FB itself.
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/21/technology/zuckerberg-facebook-project-amplify.html
That is, FB staffers are charged with writing puff pieces about how great the company is, and FB’s algorithm will push these ahead of reporting by actual journalists who present detailed, factual, multi-sourced accounts of the company’s fraudulent and depraved conduct.
Project Amplify marks a pivot from FB’s longstanding policy of issuing insincere apologies for its scandals. Company sources told the reporters that everyone figured out these don’t convince anyone, so the company turned to pushing happy-talk quackspeak instead.
One of the leaders of this project is Alex Schultz, “a 14-year company veteran who was named chief marketing officer last year,” but the major impetus comes from Zuck himself, one of the most hated men on the planet.
Amplify is just one of FB’s strategies for distorting the discourse about itself. In July, it neutered Crowdtangle, an widely used analytics tool that showed that FB’s top posts were unhinged far-right disinformation and conspiracies.
https://pluralistic.net/2021/07/15/three-wise-zucks-in-a-trenchcoat/#inconvenient-truth
And Facebook has declared all-out legal warfare (accompanied by a disinformation campaign) to kill Adobserver, an NYU project that tracks paid political disinformation on the platform.
https://pluralistic.net/2021/08/05/comprehensive-sex-ed/#quis-custodiet-ipsos-zuck
By shutting down Crowdtangle and Adobserver, FB hopes to control the academic findings about the company’s role in disinformation, hate, and harassment. The company runs its own research portal where academics are expected to access data about the platform.
But as with the journalists who report on it, FB has heaped abuse on the academics who research it.
Its portal data was bad, leaving PhD and masters’ theses are at risk of retraction. Mid-dissertation researchers have been set back to square one.
https://www.nytimes.com/live/2020/2020-election-misinformation-distortions#facebook-sent-flawed-data-to-misinformation-researchers
In retrospect, Facebook’s decision to game its own algorithm to push pro-company quackspeak seems inevitable. It’s not just that no one believes the company’s apologies anymore (if they ever did) — it’s that the company seems incapable of hiring competent spin doctors.
Take the WSJ’s blockbuster “Facebook Files,” a series of reports detailing the company’s willingness to harm children, commit fraud, and allow millions of favored, powerful people to violate its rules with impunity.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2021-09-16/facebook-s-promised-to-gain-the-public-s-trust
FB’s response was genuinely pathetic. In a perfunctory blog post, its top flack — the widely despised British politician Nick Clegg, paid millions to front FB on the global stage — vilified the WSJ’s reporting without producing any factual rebuttals.
https://about.fb.com/news/2021/09/what-the-wall-street-journal-got-wrong/
It’s the kind of ham-fisted policy advocacy that Facebook is (in)famous for. Who can forget the absolute shitshow in India over its Internet Basics program, when it bribed telcos to exempt FB and the services it hand-picked from their data-caps?
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/may/12/facebook-free-basics-india-zuckerberg
This Net-Neutracidal maneuver, falsely billed as a way to bring the internet to poor people (something is absolutely does not do), was the subject of a consultation by India’s telco regulators.
FB pushed deceptive alerts to millions of its Indian users, tricking them into sending a flood of form-letters to the regulator urging it to leave Internet Basics intact.
But whoever drafted the form letter didn’t bother to check whether it addressed any of the questions the regulator was consulting on. That made these millions of letters non-responsive to the consultation, so the regulator ignored them.
FB lost! It’s almost as though people who are good at fighting policy battles don’t want to work for Facebook, and the only talent they can attract are the kinds of opportunistic blunderers that no one takes seriously and everyone hates.
Weird, that.

youtuber au hcs [sfw] pt 2
anime: attack on titan
characters: Erwin, Hange
a/n: these are streamer heavy hcs but they’re also youtuber’s, I’ll slowly elaborate on this au more in the future lol
Erwin:
Because he radiates such boomer energy when it comes to technology, people are completely caught by surprise when they find out he streams? And not only does he stream, he streams his reactions to current internet phenomena. He is very aware of online spaces…quite shocking really
But don't be too proud of him, he doesn’t know shit about hardware...or software really. His partner set his whole thing up for him, without them he wouldn't even know where to begin on turning on his camera…..
He finds all his clips on his own. Occasionally streams a game when Levi,Miche or Hange request to collab with him
His takes are very factually based, and very informative to watch, even the most silliest videos you can learn from him
He isn’t mega popular but he makes a decent living and is fairly known. It's not about the quantity of fans but rather quality, although I guess that phrase in this case doesn’t match up. Commentary streamers/channels have a rep for shitty fan bases and Erwin isn’t any different (his audience is much more tame compared to others but his partner still hates them), but he punishes his audience often for their antics…so that’s something?
“ I’m sorry sweetheart I can't really control them…but i'll do something about it don't get mad at me please”
Although in tune with what’s a hot topic in the online space….doesn’t understand the online lingo and is often using urban dictionary but even that confuses him
“ Simpin for…Dilf Erwin…hmmmmm I’m not sure what that means but thanks?”
But don't worry his mutuals roast the shit out of him in the discord but eventually explain the terms to him
Very organized creator, always uploads when they say they will, you can rely on him for content
A white man with a semi wealthy background, he doesn’t come from need but even so he still speaks on social issues and is very passionate and educated about them…..some would call him a woke king?
Is strongly against creators dating fans, so sorry to all his fangirls ain’t gonna happen
But does love taking pictures and videos with fans, he always stops for them (annoying to no end his partner who wants to get anywhere at a reasonable time)
Hange:
WAS RAISED BY THE INTERNET
Went through a sonic and nightcore phase 0-0
They started streaming during college but took it a bit more serious after when they were finally free from all their studies and had the time to do so
Worked as a waiter while they slowly built their audience over the years, and eventually started working as a lab analyst ( works and streams, they enjoy their job so even if they’re making more money streaming they’ll continue at their little lab)
Calls their fans their little experiments gone wrong. If you couldn’t guess their channels aesthetic revolves around being a mad scientist
They wear a lab coat every stream
Do live experiments during their streams, which because its live they can’t edit as they would a normal youtube video and shit goes wrong……almost every time
You literally will never know when they will post, so disorganized. It can be daily or you’ll go months without seeing content from them. But it's not that they’re busy they’re recording so much content it's just a lot of it get scrapped and they have to start all over
“ Guys from now on I will have weekly uploads on Thursday see you then…..hopefully” (you most definitely did not see them then)
Although the majority of their content is educational, they sometimes stream games. Usually with their online mutuals, they bring this chaotic energy to the streams that no one else has quite mastered at imitating
Is not a hermit, leaves their house quite often so if you live in the city you’ll mostly likely spot them, loves taking pictures with fans ( also has a really hard time saying no to them consequently interfering with their ability to be on time to places)
Their coworkers know they’re a celebrity in the online world but they don't really understand it.
On that note, they are completely different in their irl job. Very serious with their work almost unrecognizable to their online persona

Because brain is being kind of an asshole, going to express some thoughts/feelings through the Sides again (and humoring myself):
Patton: Gosh, a new home! A new beginning! Isn’t it grand?
Janus: And all to yourself! Isn’t it absolutely dreadful to not have to deal with that “hell is other people“ problem?
Virgil: It’s nice not being aurally assaulted by The News Channel That Shall Not Be Named. Constantly.
Logan: Yes, that was... insufferable. So much factually incorrect and blatantly inflammatory material. You had to pick your battles and hold your tongue around those people.
Janus: I’m totally not happy you don’t have to deal with Mr. Control Freak and Mr. Trigger Everything, anymore.
Virgil: Yeah, I saw how it made you stress-eat...
Logan: And impaired your ability to do your workouts.
Roman: It stifled your ability to make art like you used to, too!
Remus: Couldn’t really get into talking about your juicy horror projects with the company either. Or the spicy things you want to write and draw... Or ANY of that queer shit.
Virgil & Janus, sighing: Especially the queer shit.
Patton: Well, you must be grateful for all the help you had in getting this new place, and keeping your spirits high during the wait! It’s only been a few weeks and it’s really looking like home, already!
Roman: Now you can create in peace!
Logan: It took awhile, but you also have internet again, too. So you can research things properly for whatever you need to know.
Patton: And being able to stream your favorite videos and music again is awesome!
Virgil: Which is great and all... but then everything ELSE went wrong today.
Logan: That can be addressed after some time and some sleep.
Virgil: Negativity bias can be a real-

Virgil: Please, we don’t need to be thinking of vintage shock sites right now.
Remus: Well, they’re hilarious! Oh, don’t forget the Two Girls-
Logan, interrupts: DESPITE this obvious derailment... I suppose it does sound like a good... distraction from that emotional state, yes?
Virgil & Roman: I hate that you’re right about that.
Remus: Yeah, you also have plenty privacy here too!
[Roman blinks and overly dramatically pantomimes gagging.]
Virgil: How about we don’t overshare that kind of-
