Qi Ye ensemble cast poster, second edition

Yet another one of those LOL Qi Ye just has that power over me. You know the drill; more info below!

I'll go straight to the point: my main reason to draw this was because I wanted to draw the most somber, dark-looking Helian Qi possible with some dark cross-hatching effect. And because I don't want to draw a Helian Qi solo image because who the HELL does that, I had to turn it into an ensemble cast thing again. I just REALLY like to do that for Qi Ye, for some reasons!!! For a general note, first: shading was a PAIN but making a nice composition and thinking about how to make a hierarchy that both works in terms of storytelling and visual composition was fun. I also liked finding out the "color scheme" to use and I do like lineart. So, now, little notes about each character, and the obligatory name poster just so I'm sure we all know whom I'm talking about:

Jing Beiyuan: I've mentioned it before but drawing Beiyuan is like. The easiest for me, I think, out of ALL Qi Ye/TYK characters combined. He happens to have my general goto "pretty face" (which conveniently has peach blossom eyes). I'm happy with how he turned out here! And got to put the sable around his neck which makes for a nice additional touch. Helian Yi: He's easy to draw as well and I'm glad with how the guan turned out. He initally looked sideways, but I liked it better having him wistfully stare into the distance. Helian Zhao: has the exact same face as in the other, coloured poster, and that cracks me up bc that wasn't even intentional. Helian Pei: GDI I find him so hilarious. He looks so done and out of it. Shout out to all his bird as well, which, I find, really complete the look. Helian Qi: I can't possibly say that I love him as an antagonist because there's nothing to love about this literal trash, but I'm still grateful that we got some of the most rancid stuff going on in Qi Ye just because of him and I'm always here for that. He deserves the villain visual treatment, at least. He was VERY fun to draw and I tried to push that nasty grin and shading as much as possible. He turned out exactly how I wanted him to! (the shading on his face and the balance of light and shadow was a bit of a challenge, actually)

Wuxi: Again, a rather easy one, always pleasant to draw! I loved working on his hair (but complained a lot while doing so)--which I think turned out nicely. Bai Wuchang: Finally! Finally I draw him!! He had to be there, since he's like. The base of the whole Qi Ye plot. Lining him was....... a pain, but at least it looks nice.

Su Qingluan: nothing much to say--I think it's always important to have her there in Qi Ye stuff, and I put her next to Helian Zhao because of how he tried using her--but it did make me feel bad for her when I realised that. Song Ping'an: The real star of the show, lowkey, but always alert and present. Feng Xiaoshu: FINALLY. PRINCESS JING'AN. I'm sorry I took so long to draw her. I want to work on a proper design, I swear. To make up for having completely forgotten to include her in the other spread. I'm so sorry. I like how her face turned out! Liang Jiuxiao: I never, ever, EVER get enough of drawing him. Have I mentioned how much I like him? How much of a great surprise he was reading Qi Ye? How many times I've wanted to high five because finally someone is as confused as I am? I love drawing this very specific smile on him, SO satisfying. Also Bichen said he was "THE Qi Ye antagonist" and I live for that LOL Zhou Zishu: do I really need to say anything atp Jiang Xue: I'm so sorry I put Xiao Xue next to ZZS. The cruelty. But she came out really cute didn't she T_T Anyway that's it. I'm still obsessed with Qi Ye and given my current (totally secret) retranslation project I'm nowhere near done going crazy about this book.

The clammy coolness of Ellie’s hand faded into warmth as you two sat there without a word, letting the heavy silence speak for itself. The line on the horizon faded to black, leaving nothing but the moonlight to wash over you.

There were so many things you wanted to say to her. You wanted to apologize, to tell her you never meant to impose. You wanted her to know that you didn’t expect her to give up her whole life for you. But the weight of the quiet hanging between you two felt far too massive to shake off.

An arc of white streaked across the sky, its tail long and dazzling before it vanished.

“Shooting star!” you exclaimed, jutting your free hand up to the heavens and temporarily forgetting your speechlessness. You’d never seen one before, despite your many years of studying the meteor showers and examining the geological composition of meteorites.

“Do you not have those back home?”

“No,” you said. Now you felt a little embarrassed about how the first thing that you said to her was about the star, not about any of the other pressing issues. “Too much light pollution.”

“That sucks,” mused Ellie, her voice oddly casual. “That’ll be an adjustment for me.”

You froze. “What?”

“I said,” repeated Ellie, “That’ll be an adjustment for me. When I come with you.”

The jolt of shock that shot through you stole your breath, leaving you to just stare at her while her words sunk in.

Her gaze shifted from the sky to you. The ghost of a familiar smirk pulled at the corners of her lips, but something was missing.

“You’re joking.”

She shrugged. “Only if you want me to be.”

Ranking Luo Yunxi's characters & scenes in TTEOTM based on my level of obsession

Since I'm currently in my TTEOTM fan girl era, I thought I would rank the performances of my new favorite actors based on how much I obsess over them. Sorry for my English btw... Spoilers ahead! Let the countdown begin!

(This is going to be quite long, but I have the uncontrollable urge to talk about this drama, but no one to listen to me! So I'm just screaming into the Tumblr void!)

#10 Tantan Jin claiming the throne

I love this scene for multiple reasons: Tantai Jin is riding into the Jing kingdom capital to claim the throne. However, is not wearing royal black, but rather soft greys in the style of the Yiyue tribe. It's also the first time we see him with braided hair. He has just (almost) killed his brother and instigated the vermin to flee the city. This makes it an even more powerful entrance and statement as to who he will be as a king. This is Tantai Jin coming into his own.

It's also a pretty outfit with many delicate details. From this point on, it will take multiple life times until we will see him in this colors again.

#9 Tantai Jin conducting a symphony of crows

After having suffered for most of his life, Tantai Jin takes revenge on his tormentors in a quite intriguing way, that's is cleverly build up in the show. He has been established as being able to gently talk to animals, spending most of time reading and writing, while lacking adequate clothing. Now, all these elements are put together in a new order: The brush and crows are becoming a deadly weapon, while he is dressed in royal black of the Jing kingdom. It's a glimpse into a possible future, that will turn out so very differently in the show.

It feels satisfied to see him take his revenge, even through he acts so delightfully psychotic. Luo Yunxi gives an extraordinary performance in this episode!

I also adore the evolution of his fighting style. There is also a clear evolution of him using projectiles to fight - from the crows, to the red blades, the sect technique Cang Jiumin uses to the god-killing crossbow.

#8 Cang Jiumin being interrogated by the sect, while fighting his own destiny

Nobodies portraits suffering just like Luo Yunxi. The complex emotions of pain, mental restrain and wavering hope are tangible in this performance. The scene is really well written and given enough space to fully take effect. There is also something very satisfying in seeing the sect members react to the truth finally being exposed, while integrating elements of voyeurism. It's such a hard trope to deliver well, and the show did a great job.

#7 Confused Ming Ye

From catching apples, teaching his wife to use a cross bow, consuming their marriage to being cared for while blinded - there was a lot of moment in which mighty god of war Ming Ye shows his soft and confused side. These were such sweet moments, which made Ming Ye a nuanced character, while portraying a god falling in love so incredible well. As the god of war he is both relentless and strong, but still human in his inexperience and softening emotional detachment.

#6 Tantai Jin killing the king of Sheng

This is one of my favorite outfits Tantai Jin has worn as the king. The color composition is beautiful and the gold details really elevate the outfit. The beauty is stark contrast to the pain and desperation turning to rage Tantai Jin is experiencing. The scene mirrors the crows attack in some way, but now Tantai Jin doesn't need to hide between a swarm of birds anymore, instead he takes the enemy heads on and without any (initial) backup. This speaks to his immense power, which we haven't seen on screen for a moment. And while his revenge is again satisfied to watch, him showing compassion for his former nanny only to succumb to the unimaginable despair of losing his mother again is heart wrenching. This scene becomes even more impactful, because Tantai Jin isn't uniting both kingdoms by fighting a war with superior strategies and armies (as the audience has been expecting), but rather due to personal pain and his sheer power.

#5 Cang Jiumin exploring Shangqing Realm

I love Cang Jiumin so much, I wish he would have gotten more screen time. This episode is one of my favorite appearance of him, because it's fun and lighthearted. He is playfully and cheeky, while also being righteous and brave in a calm and mature way. He is what I imagine Tantai Jin might have become had the grown up differently. His outfit is also incorporating more and more elements from Tantai Jin, such as the feathers and extravagant detailing.

Him sneaking away from his sect brothers to go exploring by himself is such a great moment. Only for it to be followed up by him protecting the Lady of Spirituality against some bullies in a really impressive fight scene and finally him reuniting with Li Susu. This is one of my favorite episodes to re-watch!

#4 Tantai Jin fighting against Xiao Lin

From the moment he levitates down the fortress, this is one of my favorite fighting scenes. While both seem rather equally matched, Tantai Jin's facial expression give away, that he is holding back. The glowing red swords are such a nice hint in the evolution of his weapons, getting close to the Devil God's style. He also starts throwing his weapons here, which foreshadows his future fighting style. The scene isn't just impressive, it's showcases the character development and complex relationship between both princes. Tantai Jin is no longer imitating Xiao Lin, but is finding is own self-expression - leaving the shadow of the other prince, while not falling into resentment (he still views him as a friend). I love it when fight scenes actually contribute to the characterization and story development.

#3 Poor but unsettling hostage prince in his Disney princess era

Tantai Jin as the bullied hostage prince is such a interesting character. There is something delicate and sweet, but unsettling about him. When he talks to his little animal friends, he is downright caring and almost loving, only to turn into a pained and resigned shell before showing a spiteful and callous individual. There is so much nuances in this portrayal! This version of Tantai Jin is also really pretty with his simple hair and gray clothing. It's so painful to experience conflicting emotions as an audience: On one hand you want to feel sorry for his unfortunate man, but on the other hand you understand the resentment, distrust and trauma Li Susu is experiencing.

#2 Ancient Devil God

Ugh, just look at him! While all the version of the Devil God were breath-taking, this one is on a while different level. The wavy hair, the pretty makeup, the attitude? This ancient evil should not be that hot. He also brings a lot of nuances to the depiction of unimaginable evil, which makes me wonder how complex is this character is, especially in comparison to other gods like Ming Ye. I feel like there could be a lot of interesting backstory, that stays unexplored - but I think that this for the best based on the role he plays in the show.

#1 One-eyed Tantai Jin hitting rock bottom

That fucking stick.... This version of Tantai Jin is making me feel things I rather not express out loud. The messy hair, the blinded eye and his attitude are just beyond perfect. You can feel the storm of emotions seething under the surface of his detached act. There is still a hint of challenge and defiance left, even after he has again been betrayed and imprisoned.

I said it before, but Luo Yunxi really excels in portraying suffering. He is able to express so many small emotions just with his voice and facial expressions, that you get drawn into his performances. As much as I want his characters to be happy - and Tantai Jin deserves all the happiness - this is when both Tantai Jin and Luo Yunxi are at their best!!

Summary: the BAU is investigating a series of murders in your hometown, and you’re right in the middle of it, but Dr. Spencer Reid takes a particular liking in you.

Warnings: partial nudity maybe?

You don’t realize when it starts to get dark. You’ve been lost in your thoughts for hours withouts noticing, therefore, not wanting to risk your safety, you stand up and begin walking to Spencer’s apartment, even if you would prefer avoiding confrontation.

When you arrive, you fin Spencer sitting on the same position you saw him when you left. The moment you enter the door, he stands up startled.

“(Y/N), how-how are you?” he stammers making you chuckle when you approximate him.

“I’m fine, Spence. You?” you question throwing your arms around his neck, his hands instinctively wrap around your hips.

“Confused, to say the least” he admits separating himself from you but leaving his hands on your hips while you hold him by his shoulders. You nod slowly.

“I know, I’m sorry” you apologize sincerely “I’m sorry ran away and left you here without an explanation, but Spencer... I’m scared okay? I come from an abandonment history, first my father, then my mom and finally... Connor. I just... don’t want to get hurt anymore”. Spencer nods understandingly.

“I know but, (Y/N)... I’m scared too... my life has been...” his voice cracks “Complicated as well, you know that”. And you do, he has told you bits about his life, only slight glances into what he’s been through; his mother having schizophrenia and alzheimer, his father leaving them, Maeve...

“Yes, I-I know, Spence, just... let me... clear my mind okay? Right now my life has been a rollercoaster, I don’t think I am... emotionally stable, I’m not even sure what I want”. Reid stares at you feeling powerless, accepting your decision. He takes his hands off your hips as you do the same with his shoulders.

He caresses your cheek before kissing you on the forehead goodnight.

It’s cold. Extremely cold. You’re only wearing your pajamas. Steam leaves your mouth everytime you exhale. You’re walking above an eternal mirror which only reflects darkness, filling the place on its existence. Except for your figure on it. Your feet hurt. All of a sudden, you see someone on the distance, and recognize Connor’s shape. You run towards him, but when you get there, he disappears.

You wake up and stay still on the couch for a few minutes, expecting for some reason to be in your house in Delaware, with Connor waking you up telling you it was just a nightmare. In the time your eyes take to adjust to the blackness and the shadows in the room, illuminated only by the moonlight, you start sobbing loudly, crying over Connor, cursing him between mumbles for leaving you.

You hear steps on the house and incorporate to see Spencer looking at your red eyes, tired from crying. Without a word, he picks you up from the couch, blankets still wrapped around your trembling body, and carries you to his room, leaving you gently on his bed and cuddling you as the big spoon, letting you cry until you fall asleep again.

When you wake up, you’re still in his arms, hearing his breathing, when you notice his index finger drawing circles in your arm. You turn around and find him already awake, staring at you behind the curly locks of hair that fall in front of his eyes. He smiles at you warmly.

“Hi” he says softly as you hide your face on the crook of his neck, feeling an oncoming migraine due to the fatigue from crying.

“I’m drained” you whisper, to which he responds holding you tighter.

“It’s logical, according to research from the 1980s, psychogenic tears differ in composition from other tears, and it’s theorized that crying may be a way to rid the body of stress-related chemicals, tears also serve the same purpose in the eye that blood does elsewhere in the body, delivering oxygen and nutrients and removing waste products” he explains making you chuckle at his statement.

Spencer’s cellphone begins to ring, you reach out for it, handing it to him, resting your head on his chest as he speaks.

“Yeah JJ” he answers “Now? Uh... no. Yeah. Okay. Thanks” he huffs as he hangs up.

“What is is?” you question separating from him, putting the weight of your head on your elbow, funnily watching as he stands up and begins to get undressed... in front of you. You giggle, not alerting him to see how long it takes him to realize this fact.

“We have a case” he says ashamed as he takes off the t-shirt he was previously wearing to sleep, not really wanting to leave you on your own in this kind of situation.

“Oh” you exclaim, sad because of knowing you won’t be able to see him in at least a week.

“I’m sorry” he says giving you a guilty glance while he looks for a shirt to wear to work.

“It’s okay Spence, it’s your job” you tell him, making him relax a little.

“Thank you” he says, and when he’s about to pull his pajama pants down, you start giggling uncontrollably, standing up to let him get dressed properly. “What is it?” he asks confused. When he realizes what he was about to do, looking down at his naked torso, he blushes a deep shade of red “(Y/N) I...” you cut him off by hugging him, feeling his skin beneath your fingers, running your nails smoothly on his back.

“It’s okay, I’ll let you get dressed” you murmur setting aside his golden locks from his face illuminated by the sunlight before leaving the room, heading to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

He comes out, joining you in the kitchen, avoiding your gaze. You giggle.

“Spencer, really, it’s okay, I’m sorry for not telling you, I just wanted to see how long it took you to notice, I never wanted you to feel inadequate” you apologize shrugging.

“I know, it’s just... I feel so comfortable and confident around you I forgot... nevermind”. You nod, not sure if you want to know the end of that phrase.

“Thank you, for what you did last night for me” you tell him changing the subject. He smiles.

“Anytime”. He shifts uncomfortably “Will you be okay on your own?” you frown as you set the table.

“I will. I think... I think I’ll go back to Delaware” you confess, making an awkward silence fall in the room.

“Oh” Spencer pronounces dryly. You give him a confused look before explaining yourself.

“I need to see what they did to Connor’s body and make arrangements for the move”. He changes his mood to a more disappointed one.

“Today?” he inquires taking his messenger bag.

“Yes, today” you declare as he takes his keys and heads to the front door “Spencer aren’t you going to have breakfast?”

“Not hungry” he says quickly and leaves. You stare at the door bewildered, subsequently sitting at the table and eating by yourself, wondering about Spencer’s sudden behavior.

Please can I have some advice about making comics, specifically figuring out panel/page layout? Robber/Robert was beautiful and flowed so nicely

(Sorry, I know that’s a big ask, especially busy as you are! I would be grateful for even the smallest nugget of wisdom!)

Hey! I know you're specifically referencing Robber/Robert, but all of the tips I gave in my How To Draw Sakana series still mostly apply to the way I make comics!

I plot out important story beats first (and the ending) and fill in little jokes between those mostly on the fly.

Even though RR is mostly digital (unlike Sakana, which is totally traditional), I still thumbnail RR traditionally because it's easier for me to see the whole page that way, and really get a sense of how big each panel and each element within the panel needs to be. All other details are basically omitted at this point, it's really just figuring out page composition. I also write out the dialogue traditionally. Even if I have a good idea of what I want the characters to say in every panel, trying to come up with exact dialogue later in the process always spells disaster for me. So I try to figure out dialogue and thumbnails at the same time.

The 5 in 5 rule is still what governs my panel/page layouts! I feel like the last [5] rule is worded a little poorly: what I mean is that hands can also add a lot to character acting and should be present as often as possible to avoid having too many "talking heads" panels. Even if a page is dialogue heavy, at least having the character gesture with hands or even do a small task (like make coffee or something) during a conversation or monologue will be more satisfying to read. ALSO, BACKGROUNDS ARE GOOD. I know I'm in the minority of people who LOVE drawing very complicated backgrounds, but even a few little lines or shapes or colors here and there behind a character can keep them present in the environment. I always try to Avoid The Void, but it really depends on how important the setting is to your story. I only draw comics with very specific important settings for some reason lol.

RR is in an American comics format (so roughly 10"x15", which is a 2x3 ratio and can scale down to 6x9 for print.) Again, I think it's important to get as much of a sense of how the page will look in the thumbnail stage as possible, without bogging yourself down with too many details. Often characters will just be pegs with circles for heads (and in Rob's case, two little antenna lines that make him look like a cricket), but where they are and how big they are are most crucial. I'd even suggest thumbnailing two consecutive pages right next to each other so you can really see the flow from one to the next.

The rest of the pages only really apply if you're thinking about doing your comic completely traditional. Penciling, inking, and lettering DON'T need to happen on the same page/paper, but I'm used to that workflow so that's how I do it!

LETTERING IS STILL VERY IMPORTANT THOUGH. I'm sorry to be harsh, but there's nothing worse than bad letters on a great looking comic. If you're not feeling great about your lettering capabilities, I'd suggest taking some time with tutorials and practice to get something that really fits your comic style.

FINALLY, it's important to go out there and find comics that you LIKE and really study what they're doing, how they're doing it, and why it speaks to you. Currently I'm looking at a lot of Franco-Belgian comics, which are bigger than american or manga sizes, and CHOCK FULL of backgrounds usually. Some day I'd like to make something that looks similar, so I'm using every comic project I make as practice to get closer and closer to that style.

i think rui and mafuyu should be siblings. like just IMAGINE OKAY

mafuyu finally gets out of his mom's house and is adopted by some people. n25 is like "alr cool B]" and after a little bit mafuyu's like "oh btw guys i'm going to kamiyama now instead of the girl's academy. yknow blank slate n all that." and everyone's like "okay !!!"

and nobody really notices anything until mizuki goes to school one day. and there's rui kamishiro. sitting right next to THE mafuyu asahina. and mizuki is CONFUSED to say the least

mafuyu is integrated into the kamiyama society. yes this includes getting jumpscared by THE tsukasa tenma. anyways i think that rui and mafuyu would get along. it's "useless information" and "i literally know everything" they probably get along swell. mr and ms kamishiro also probably understand all the weird teenager bullshit so they. don't judge mafuyu like her old parents did. he's like "i'm sorry i have difficulty expressing my emotions and i'm sorry i'm generally a cold person and hard to relate to emotionally" and ms kamishiro is like "rui had a five nights at freddy's phase where he built life sized animatronics i think you are just fine <3"

also i think mafuyu would help rui w his robots n stuff. bc they have such a good understanding of anatomy n shit and just. helps him out w it. rui also helps mafuyu w his transition so by the time he starts attending kamiyama they're wearing the guy's uniform n his hair is cut :fire: :fire: + mafuyu can act more like his authentic self bc NOBODY gives a fuck anymore. these people know toya and nene they jsut assume mafuyu doesn't like to talk.

mr kamishiro will come into the house and he never knows what to expect from his silly son and his emo son. like one night it will be deathly silent except for a 7 hour documentary on computer programming that they've been watching since they've gotten home from school, the next night they'll be listening to hatsune miku on full volume while building the most complicated machine known to man, one night he comes home and finds our mafuyu has been trying to get rui to eat vegetables, ect ect ect.

sometimes mafuyu will be on nightcord calls and rui will just walk into his room while he's composing. and after a while nightcord gets used to it. like sometimes the Other Purple One will come in and stand in the corner of mafuyu's webcam for an hour and that's just what happens. everyone else on call jumps when he suddenly starts talking and giving advice on the composition but mafuyu doesn't bc ofc he don't.

mafuyu does the same thing at wxs rehearsals. mafuyu always walks home w rui so he'll just always watch everyone work. emu's not as scared of him anymore bc <33 he's not being fake <33 and sometimes they'll just come over like "this doesn't flow correctly. also your timing is off. change these lines and also your expression, it doesn't look like you're really feeling it." and that's just what happens.

i think eventually, mafuyu starts to discover his feelings again, bit by bit. until one day he's sitting in the kitchen w rui and starts laughing. and rui's been trying to get them to do that for months. everyone's a little confused and ms kamishiro runs into the kitchen like "MAFUYU DEAR ARE YOU OKAY ???" but then also realizes no. mafuyu's just giggling. probably over a fart joke of all things.

so sometimes rui will just walk in, say a fart joke, and then leave. and that's the ONLY thing that will make mafuyu laugh. rui's stupid fucking fart jokes. mizuki teases them constantly about it but even they can't mae mafuyu laugh. it's only rui's stupid fucking fart jokes. the entirety of wxs makes an entire comedy routine just so mafuyu laughs at shows.

okay i'm kind of confused actually about what the plan was here... like we know that wolfwood was sent to be vash's guide, but him getting hit by the truck was OBVIOUSLY NOT PLANNED so the group finding zazie at the fuel station wasn't planned either. like. based on what zazie says later in the episode, they were "helping" wolfwood gain vash's trust by creating an enemy for them to face together. so did zazie just do all of this on the fly? should i just assume that zazie knows everything that's going on all the time? did they see what was going on from the worm cloud above that we see at the start of the episode? even though those worms were just... microbial? so they determined which fuel station the truck was going to stop at and killed the people there and disguised themself... that must have been what happened, right?

and what's with this. there was a post i saw a while ago where op said they don't like how orange adapted this scene. because the context is changed. because zazie and wolfwood are working together so instead of this being an act of genuine kindness wolfwood is just... acting i guess. but i don't know. does wolfwood even know this is zazie at this point. maybe he's stupid idk KLJDSFKLSDFJ or is it that he can't help himself because zazie LOOKS like a child?? I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO MAKE OF THIS SCENE NOW.

sorry to be answering this so late, wanted to try and give some kinda proper advice haha so what i do is i just make my posts as long as possible so that it takes up like all of ppls dash, this means they are forced to look at it and engage with it! no ok but for real, first off this is just how i do things and by no means any sort of proper tutorial or anything, most of this is prob kinda basic and intuitive stuff, but its good to be reminded of the basics and to notice why you might be doing said things intuitively so you can start doing it intentionally so how i approach things is by picking a focus panel whats the Punchline/Emotional pay off for the page/comic? and then i try and build the rest around that for actual Comics not every page is gonna have one of those ofcourse and thats fine i tend to often have to many focus panels,,,, lmao(which is why my posts end up so long,,,,) i try to group similar panels and make them smaller, it saves space, makes it so the attention goes to the more unique panels and makes things feel more sequential(or u can do like me and have too many similar panels and think, what if i just make it an animation, its just a few extra frames right,,,?<- clueless(i have done this twice now,,, the second is still a wip,,, )) heres one of my posts deconstructed using all this, id do more of them but i dont wanna make this even longer asdsd, but i think its pretty obvious to pick up on once you know the formula lol

after that i think its mostly just clear composition and flow so things dont get confusing(like what panel(also applies to text) youre suppose to read next and such(thats easier with this cus its usually just individual panels and not full pages)) edit: oh and resources that helped me, i mostly just looked at other comics, paying attention to how the paneling was effecting the story and mood! some comics ive looked at for paneling inspo are houseki no kuni, how they play with contrast and stuff, idk theyre all just very striking, i looked at ajin at some point as well for help with some action stuff, most action shonen are also great for that 2 so yeah, just find a comic scene that has the same vibe that youre trying to get and see how they did it, finding a few and comparing and contrasting what you feel works best thats my thought process while doing stuff at least! i hope this helps at least a bit haha

ah! perfect opportunity for me to explain this whole thing! that was me throwing a tantrum in response to one particular case which was an artist copying one of my photos exactly as it is and was like hmm i'll sell this as a print, and i saw it by chance and was like no wtf thats not ur work to sell... and granted they did credit me but this, along with a few others things both recent and long bothering me, pissed me off enough I put that in my bio. like. there are ways to respecfully create something based off other ppl's work and ways that don't. also ways that just straight up aren't technically legal. i get walked on so much i forgot my rights to my own work.

with that said tho as long as my work is credited or its noted that the art is reference practice and not original art, and not like... further edited or interpreted in the same way an artist wouldn't want their art to be tampered with, especially the fake cgs i sold my soul to make, im mostly fine with it. also ask me for permission before hand bc there are things i don't want other ppl touching. i think i know what ur art blog is and im pretty sure you've been crediting and being very supportive so im okay with it :)

i could write a whole thing about how originality and effort and creative ownership in VP is overlooked but in short, my work are all individually a complete photographic piece that i intend for to be viewed as is. if, say, i blur an image or have little lighting or only include half a subject's face or whatever these are all intentional choices i make in attempts to create emotion and atmosphere etc. idk if i managed to communicate that clearly. basically what im trying to say is, judge me if you will, but i don't think it's selfish for me to want my work to be viewed the way i want it to and for ppl to recognise the effort i put into making it a creative original piece.

now this is just me rambling but in general, while i do appreciate that others will look at my work and think the composition or lighting or whatever is good enough to be a reference, i'm still bothered when thats all they can see (i.e. sees a vp work and think oh hey look what a good ref for my art!!1!), especially if they like see it reposted on pinterest and think its free for the taking…? baffles me how some artists are so aware of the ownership of their own work but fail to give others credit where its due.

First time ever filling a request (AAAAAAA? THANK YOU SO MUCH???) and also my first time writing something for Kanata! I love tsun boys but he's a tough one. I had a beta reader this time so I hope I did okay! The request was Kanata realizing that he's fallen for the reader! I hope you like it ;u;

It was 4 AM, and Kanata Yatonokami was still awake, and he was pissed.

Nayuta had already fallen asleep, wrapped up in the blankets on the bed. Kanata sat in front of his laptop, with the screen being the only source of light in the apartment so as not to bother his brother. He had decided to work on their new song since sleep evidently wasn’t an option. Lately, his days had been…eventful, he would say.

He and Nayuta were busy, maybe more than they had ever been, thanks to Paradox Live. It was taking a little adjustment, but he supposed he had no major complaints. He rested his chin in his hand, staring blankly at his computer. He had been stuck on this part of his work for some time, and it wasn’t even because the composition itself was posing a major challenge. It was because he had other things on his mind. Stupid, confusing things. Things that he would swear up and down he didn’t care about.

Kanata groaned softly and slumped over, forehead coming to rest on the edge of the desk he was working at, and it was all because Nayuta wanted to spend some of their prize money on sweets from a new bakery. A bakery where you had smiled at them, making every attempt to chat, recommending this and that, explaining tastes, textures, ingredients…he hadn’t been listening at all, instead watching your mouth move, your eyes light up, and how brightly you smiled at them the whole time. You had been in no hurry to get them away from the display case and out the door; all the while the saccharine smell of vanilla and sugar made Kanata’s head spin. He observed your nimble hands making quick work of closing up the box after Nayuta had decided what he wanted, the tune you had made out of the words, “Thank you so much, please come back soon!” echoed in his head.

Kanata Yatonokami was still awake, and he was pissed, and it was your fault.

All his life, he had never needed anyone except for Nayuta. He never really had the desire to build other connections. After all, he had learned his lesson; the world had been nothing but cold and cruel, he reminded himself of that plenty often.

But you weren’t, something in the back of his mind told him.

The voice was small, and he didn’t know where it came from; it was annoying in the same way an insect he couldn’t see, buzzing around the room would be. He wanted it to stop. It was seriously messing with his head. He was distracted, and it was getting in the way of important things that he should be (and would much rather be) doing. Nayuta had already noticed that he wasn’t quite himself, which he would have rather avoided, because that meant that now Nayuta was going to be on his case; how could he explain to Nayuta what he couldn’t explain to himself?

There was the rustle of fabric as Nayuta stirred, and Kanata looked up quickly to see him sitting up, eyes heavy and half-lidded.

“Nn…Kanata? You’re still awake?”

Kanata turned to face his brother. “Yeah, sorry,” he spoke coolly, hoping Nayuta would just go back to sleep. “I hope I didn’t wake you.”

Nayuta grunted, rubbing some of the sleep away from his eyes, and then looked at his older brother, puzzled. He wasn’t sure what time it was, but he knew it had to be an ungodly hour to still be up. “Hey…” he started cautiously. “Are you okay?”

This was exactly what he had wanted to avoid. “Fine.” The word came out more brusque than he had intended it to sound. “I was just working on something.” It wasn’t really a lie, at least.

“You’ve been ‘just working on something’ for the last three weeks,” Nayuta reminded him pointedly. “You can’t lie to me, Kanata.” He stared at his twin intently. “Tell me what’s up.”

Kanata sighed and turned back to his laptop. He hated that Nayuta was right. He should have known better than to try and get anything past him. He didn’t want his brother fussing over him like this, either. He sighed, and decided that this was going nowhere fast—he wasn’t going to be able to do any work with his head all clouded up like this. Besides, maybe talking to Nayuta would help him figure it out.

The laptop closed with a soft snap, and Kanata stood up, stretching his arms over his head on the way to the bed. He threw himself onto the empty side, curling up next to Nayuta, who looked down at him.

“So?”

Kanata blinked at the ceiling. “I dunno,” he muttered.

Nayuta raised an eyebrow. “Kanata, that’s not—”

“No, I really don’t know!” he insisted, furrowing his brows. He was actually being honest, but it was a terrible answer.

Nayuta hummed, leaning back onto his palms. He couldn’t think of any problems he was aware of. They had money, their songs were doing well, no one was bothering them…he was too tired to rack his brain for more ideas. Glancing over at his brother, he could see the troubled expression on his face.

“Suiseki?” he guessed. 

“No.” Kanata deadpanned.

“Suzaku?” Nayuta quirked a brow.

“Hell no!” Kanata spat, scowling at the mention of his name.

“Hmm…” This time, Nayuta spoke softer. “Is it a girl?”

“Huh?!” Kanata sat up quickly, shooting a glare in his brother’s direction. “Nayuta, are you—”

The other boy started laughing, and Kanata could feel his face get hot. “Why are you laughing?! Don’t be stupid!” More importantly, why was he embarrassed?! It wasn’t like he was right!

Nayuta, though, was pretty convinced he was right; his face broke into a sly grin. “So you’re all mopey and moody over a girl?” he teased. “Gross.” He fell back into his pillows.

But really, he was more surprised than anything. While he supposed it would have happened eventually, it still caught him off guard. After all, they had been together this whole time; just the two of them, alone, for nineteen years, and things like this were…never part of the equation, really. But, he only wanted Kanata to be happy, and while it was difficult to really come to terms with, he still wanted to support him and see his world get a little bigger. More colorful. Not to mention, it was about time there was someone to take care of him for once, even if he acted like he didn’t need someone like that.

Kanata couldn’t believe him. There was no way some stupid girl had anything to do with this. Kanata never cared about girls. “Nayuta!” he protested. “That isn’t funny! Of course it’s not about her!”

“Hmm?” Nayuta fixed his gaze on Kanata. “Her? I didn’t mention anyone…who are you talking about?” he asked, clearly amused now to see that he was getting a rise out of his brother. Honesty wasn’t really Kanata’s strong suit.

Kanata growled, putting his palms to his face. This made no sense, and it was stupid, and he was tired of being grilled. “I’m going to bed!” he huffed, lying down, grabbing the blanket, and pulling it to his chin.

“Sure,” Nayuta wriggled under the blankets alongside Kanata. “Goodnight~” he mumbled, closing his eyes the moment he rested his head back into the pillows. Sleep came rather quickly for him. Kanata, on the other hand…

He lay there on his side, eyes still wide open, staring at the floor. His heart had been pounding and his stomach was twisted in knots from what had just happened—he’d never felt anything like this before, but it felt gross. Still, he couldn’t just shake off the slip-up he had made.

“Her? I didn’t mention anyone…who are you talking about?”

Your face had come to mind right away, goofy airheaded smile and all, and his heart squeezed. He never really believed in love, save for the fraternal kind. Friendship, parental love, romantic love…he had never received any of that, nor did he ever need it. Why would he want it? Especially now, and from you, no less.

Because, the voice reminded him, you were kind, and gentle, and warm, and maybe he noticed the curl of your lips when you smiled after he spoke to you, and maybe he kind of liked it, and maybe there was a softness behind it that he had always wished to be shown.

Kanata tossed under the covers, picking up and mashing his pillow against his face, feeling a new rush of heat in his cheeks, his chest, to the tips of his fingers. “Damn it…!” he whispered petulantly. Why this? Why him, and why you? His mind raced with questions and thoughts faster than he could card through them and rationalize any of it. This was the kind of lame shit that happened in movies; the scenes that he would skip, or that would make him zone out. He was exasperated with himself. This had to be something else.

But maybe it’s not, the pest in his head argued. Maybe Nayuta had a point, and he was just immature and in denial because he didn’t know how to handle his own feelings. After all, how many times had he walked the same route in the last few weeks that would lead him to the storefront you worked at when he took walks while Nayuta was hanging out with Shiki? How many times had he peered through the window or over the counter before looking at anything on the menu or in the display case? How many of those times had he told himself it was because Nayuta had really liked the desserts there and he wanted to get him sweets to have after dinner when he came home? Why else was he willing to stomach the cloyingly sweet smell of icing and fresh berries? There was no hiding behind Nayuta this time.

Kanata was squeezing his eyes shut as if that would make him fall asleep any quicker, but it definitely wasn’t working, because instead of pitch black, he could see a shy smile, sparkling eyes—yours—burned onto the backs of his eyelids. His heart thrummed against his ribcage, remembering the way you had parroted his own name back to him after finally asking for it the fourth time he had come around. He hadn’t even thought twice about telling you.

“Yatonokami…-san.” Something about the way it rolled off your tongue was pleasant—comfortable, even. “I’ll be sure to remember!”

Loathe as he was to admit it, maybe that made him happy. Tossing the pillow away from his face, he rolled onto his back and opened his eyes, staring up at the ceiling. The sun had begun to rise, and there was a sliver of bright white light against the dull paint. He was giving in.

It was who-knew-what time, and Kanata Yatonokami was still awake, and now, he was pretty sure he liked you.
