Some moments of my first glamping that altered my brain:
1. We arrived earlier than check-in time and went around to take photos. Me: "eh ambik gambar kat situ jom. Ambik kat sini pulak. Situ pun cantik tu". Aisyah: "kau ni macam mak aku dah" 🤣 idk why, but i don't enjoy taking pics on family trips like i was with them 😭
2. Dayah urged us to play outside faster because she said, "wa, khemah lain ni ramai ah. Kita kena cop cepat nanti dorang conquer. Dorang trigger aku punya introvert lah". At this point, I knew I grew a lot from the old version of me because I don't feel scared to face a group of strangers anymore. Taktau la because they looked like they're younger than me or cause I'm familiar with the place orr being a tourism student changed me for good 🤣
3. The four of us hyping each other up despite being suck at archery 😭 one of us: *misses the target board*, others: "WO WOW WOUU"
4. Dayah insisted to play badminton: "cepat cepat main badminton. Eh mana net dia wa?" Me: "tu yang syahdu tu" Dayah: *don't want to play anymore* 😭
5. Dayah saying that one ride looked like a wheelchair tapi best okayy laju pulak tu 🤣
6. It rained heavily so we played Ludo. Starting from Ludo to Uno, Snap, and Musang & Anak Ayam, Dayah and Ecah always lost the game and got the last turn through lat tali lat 😭
7. *Cooked Oden for dinner* nisha, vlogging: "ni resepi siapa ni? Sapa nak claim?" Dayah: "takda sapa" Ecah: "taknak claim" Me, out of nowhere: "Aku la claim"
8. *eating dinner peacefully* Ecah: "sapa sepak kaki aku ni?? *laughs* kau kenapa sepak kaki aku nisha?" Nisha: *do silent signals* Ecah: *turns around* "WEH BABI" It's literally a babi guys, a big one 😭😭
9. *gathered around campfire and ate marshmallows together* Me: *uploaded a photo I took of the campfire* Dayah: "wa, kau buat aku rasa nak delete la story campfire aku ni"
10. We had a late night talked in our tent and know some things that we never knew. Idk why, when and how Ecah remembers all stories about all people. She's indeed a hometown girl yang tau semua cerita orang kampung centu 😭 I also told them about my situationship and they looked through my following list to find that guy and they're shock when they know who he is HAHAHAH LAWAK 😭 They scooched nearer and nearer to my bedside when I'm telling the story. At first, Dayah was like: "wehhh comell laa. Kau cari dia balik wawa!!" Pastu Dayah: "WEHH WAA NI BUDAK VAN AKUU" Ecah with her every wrong guess and being shocked at every name that appears on my following list is funny 😭😭 "WEH AD?? S?? HAH I??" Also her when she found out: "ohhh ini taste wawaa" Nisha: "wa, kalau kau dengan dia mesti senyap senyap je kan"
11. *All of us trying to sleep but couldn't do so cause the other guests are talking and laughing loudly macam takda common sense* I heard my friends sighs, twist and turns, every few minutes. Pastu Nisha bangun, so I woke up with her and went in front of the tent, contemplating whether to call them out or not. Ecah: "bising ah, macam la kita ni tak bayar nak duduk sini" Me: "aku jerit eh?" Dayah: "jerit la kalau kau boleh" Me, suddenly possessing a really deep and angry, the real garau jantan voice: "WOI SENYAP SIKITLA" and at that moment EVERYTHING goes silent 😀 aku pun tercengang dengan diri sendiri, dari mana datang nya suara gitu 😭 pastu terus slow weh suara dorang the whole night LOL the next morning we discussed about it, Dayah: "yang takleh bla nya dia pusing cakap kat aku dia nak jerit dengan ayunya, sekali ha kauu. Aku siap mimpi wawa jerit weh malam tadi" Nisha: "Aku ingatkan dia nak jerit 'Awak semua boleh tolong senyap sikit tak~~' ala ala akak faci sekali WOI warden yang keluar" Ecah: "aku ingatkan wawa cakap kat abang staff tu suruh tegur dorang sekali dia cakap aku yang tegur" HAHAHHAH tapi ya Allah weh sepanjang dorang bising mengilai mencarut terbahak bahak tak ingat dunia tu dalam hati aku duk cakap ya Allah tolonglah bagi dorang experience benda seram seram ke tegur dorang. Jaga la sikit kat tempat orang ni duk galak sangat malam malam. Sekali aku yang jadi seram 😭😭 sumpah ye tu first time suara aku jadi jantan sejantannya. Aku rasa tu effect suara baru bangun dari baring + sleepy voice HAHAHAH Nisha kata "nasib baikla malam tadi masa aku pandang dia, dia tak cakap APA PANDANG PANDANG memang aku ruqyah terus kat situ. Betulla orang kata kalau nak kenal orang tu kena tidur sebantal dulu" 🤣
12. Kak Huda: "Laa, kenapa tak whatsapp akak? Kalau najwa whatsapp akak, akak boleh sound kan dorang" Ecah: "takpa kak, dah ada yang sound dah semalam. Ni ha *points at me* sampai keluar suara jantan dia"
Overall, I feel like the place and staff at that time was a meh. I was a bittt dissapointed sebab I just knew that Njmd was there the whole night and he also mentioned that the other guests were being loud but he didn't even tried to tegur them while knowing that we're there too? It's like he's trying really hard to ghost me macam la aku datang situ sebab nak ngorat dia wtf?? 😭 aku kat sana as guest tau. Treat me as one lah. Your sister managed to do that just fine, but you?? Dahlah dan dan je malam tu ada hal pastu tak bukak cafe. Kalau ko bukak pun aku tak pergi lah 😭 Pastu cam tah la aktiviti banyak rosak, banyak takleh main and in poor condition. I have to agree with some of the bad reviews from their past customers 😭 at this point, i only maintain my relationship w kak huda amd aunty jelah. Tu pun since I already stayed there, I think I'll only contact them as invitation to my wedding jelah kot sjsjsk

*BEEPBEEP BEEPBEEP*
The electronic chimes from your alarm clock blared loudly in your ear. Groans escaped your dry throat as the clock stirred you from your slumber, "Not yet--," your hand fished for the large snooze button on the top of the clock. Five more minutes, that is all you would need. Well, five minutes came and once again the alarm beeped in your ear. Your eyelids slowly lifted as you read the blurry red digits that stared in your face. "3:45 PM", it read. "Shit..." you cursed as you knew that you needed to get up and get around for your nightshift turn.
Your legs swung around the edge of your bed as you stretched with a loud yawn. Daylight peaked in through your blinds and shined directly into your eyes, "I really need some black out curtains," you mumbled to yourself as you made a mental note. This was just your daily routine now. You slept in the morning after getting off work from the Raccoon City Police Department and woke up around 3:00 PM. Ate, exercised, showered, and relaxed all before you pushed pencils on the clock at your desk.
Don't get it wrong. It was a job and you were thankful, but your duties weren't exactly what you expected them to be after the headache that was the police academy. You didn't hate your job, you just didn't -- like it. Also, you really fucking hated Raccoon City. It was not the same place that you remembered as a kid, not to mention all the weird things that had been going on lately. You just really wanted out of there. Maybe go to a warmer city... like Los Angeles or something.
You pushed yourself to a stand and turned around on the balls of your feet to head to the bathroom. When you reached the shower, you turned on the faucet and ran your fingers under the warm water. Just as it reached the perfect temperature, your phone rang. You ignored it and waited for the voicemail to pick up. But it just rang again.
"I'm coming! I'm coming!" you yelled at the telephone as you stomped through your apartment to the device on the wall. "Hello?" you answered.
A familiar, yet unwelcomed voice barked from the other end of the line. "[L/N]! Where the hell are you?!" It was Lt. Branagh. "Home. My shift doesn't start until 10." your eyes rolled as you pinched the bridge of your nose. "Get your ass over to the station! We've had reports all day of violent attacks all over the damn city!" He couldn't be serious -- it was 6 hours now until your shift! "I don't come in until--," Branagh cut you off, "I expect to see you soon, [L/N]." the call ended.
You kicked the open moving box that sat in front of you in anger. It flipped onto its side and the contents spilled out onto the floor. It was a bunch of papers that you failed to file away and as you picked them up, you noted a familiar picture on top of the mess. The photo displayed two very recognizable faces that had smiles displayed happily.
You and Leon S. Kennedy.
He was your partner in crime during the police academy. Leon was the only one who didn't see you being a woman as a weakness. The two of you hit it off immediately after he introduced himself and complimented your skills.
On top of your heads were colorful party hats that seemed to be a bit too small. Both of your arms were slinked around his shoulders as you pulled him in for a close hug. His right hand was rested on your waist and the left held up a large mug of beer that was about to spill out onto the floor. Your thumb caressed the image of his handsome face and a smirk spread across your lips. You flipped the picture over and in faded pen was your handwriting: "Graduation Celebration! JULY '98"
Leon crossed your mind often. The two of you lost contact with one another after something happened between the two of you. It was as if that party happened yesterday -- the night that he kissed you. Your eyes closed and you could picture Leon's face perfectly - the way that his lips puckered and the way that they felt.
The two of you stood outside of the bar on that warm summer night. Leon was leaned against his shitty blue car that was wrapped in faded paint and rust. You stood in front of him with your arms crossed and your eyes focused on the clear sky that hovered above. Then the sensation of fingers over your skin drew your attention from the sky, to the man. Your gazes locked and his lids were half shut but a smile was on his lips. "Leon, you're drunk, aren't you?" you chuckled. His fingers wrapped around your bicep, "Maybe," he cooed as he brought you close to him. You could feel and smell his breath, it was warm and stunk heavy of booze.
With his free hand, he moved it to your cheek and tickled it lightly with his knuckle. Your [E/C] eyes stared deep into his moonstone ones, Leon's pupils dilated before they closed. His lips met yours. They were smooth but a bit chapped - he must be an avid user of Chapstick, you thought. The kiss was quick but meaningful. When he pulled away, you grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him in for another. When the two of you broke apart, you noted the way those moonstone pools in his head looked at you -- you could get lost in them -- forever.
The fond memories brought warmth to your heart that you lost the track of time. Pounds from beneath you interrupted your reminiscence. Your neighbor below screamed through the floorboards. "Hey, you fucking idiot! Stop using all the hot water! You're not the only one who fucking lives here!" he continued to pound and yell. "Shut up, you fuck!" you screamed back as you scrambled to your feet. Your clothing was stripped from your body as you dashed to the shower, and jumped directly into the lukewarm stream.
You knew that Branagh was most likely boiled over in anger because of how late you were already. Once you finished your shower, you pulled on your police uniform, styled your hair into a neat bun, grabbed a bagel, and ran out the door. Your car was parked pretty far down the road and rain began to fall from the sky. What a perfect start to the day. You shoved the bagel into your mouth and dashed for your car. The key slipped in your hands as you fiddled with them to get the door unlocked. Just as you grabbed the correct one, they fell onto the ground and so did your bagel.
"I've already had enough of today," you cursed and sighed to yourself as you bent over to pick them up. When you stood back up, a woman came from nowhere and threw herself onto you. She cried in panic and spoke incoherently. You noted the large wound on her shoulder and blood was seeped heavily into her shirt. "P-Please! Help me!" she grabbed onto your shirt with blood stained hands. "Ma'am!" you yelled and pushed her off of you for your own safety. She stumbled back and fell to her knee, "Let me call an ambulance!" you started to run to a nearby pay phone but she stopped you with a stutter that it was too late. "There's more of them!" her head turned in the direction of an alley to the left, then she took off from the ground in a haste. "Ma'am, wait!" you yelled as you watched her run away around the corner and into the city.
"Who's coming?" you whispered. With curiosity, you walked toward the alley that the woman had looked down but saw no one. Maybe she was one of the crazy people that were noted to be around the city and around the Arklays... If you saw her again, you'd probably call in some backup... the crazy look in her eyes... it unsettled you. You managed to shake the image of them from your mind and focused on getting out of the rain.
As you walked back to your car, you noticed the red stains that were now stained into your uniform. Whatever. You would worry about it after you made it to work. Once you got into your car, the radio started talking about more and more unrest that had spread more and more through the streets. Your finger pressed the power off, "Enough of that." the news was just the same and you just knew that you had to deal with it first hand once you arrived at the station, it just made it worse.
In front of the parking garage for the RPD were several cars that seemed to have been in an accident. Your car couldn't go any further than where you were at, so you hopped out of the vehicle to walk the rest of the way. People dashed around the streets in a panic and it seemed as if it were the apocalypse. You tried to flag people down to stop them but they all ignored you. What the hell is going on?! When you entered the station, there was even more chaos. Officers ran around like wild and some seemed to be injured as well. You felt anxious and confused by everything that was going on. What had gone on in your brief time away?
Phones rang, people yelled, doors slammed, and everything soon overwhelmed you, you could feel yourself going into an overload. But a strong hand on your shoulder was a saving grace. "There you are, [L/N]!" it was Branagh and a brief look of relief washed across his face. "I left a stack of paperwork on your desk. Sort through it and then you're going out on patrol. Some crazy shit is going down..." he gave you a light push in the direction of your desk.
As you walked to the back of the office, you noticed the banner that was spread across the ceiling in blue and yellow.
"WELCOME LEON"
Your heart pumped in your chest and you could feel your skin begin to turn clammy. There was only one Leon that you know of that was a cop. The man that you shared a kiss with and so many more feelings... Leon -- Kennedy? Was he actually on his way here? He always told you that after the academy he would eventually come find you in the city and be your partner again. You thought that it was just a joke -- but now, it didn't seem that way. How could he come here without saying anything to you? No call? No email? Nothing?
Your eyes remained on the banner and you asked your co-worker who sat on the desk beneath it, "Hey, Rita. Who's this, Leon?" She didn't look up from her desk, "I dunno. Some new guy from out of town. Last name starts with a K or something like that. Ask Neil, I'm sure he knows." You could feel a knot in your stomach and you darted to your chair. The desk that was across from you was normally piled high with boxes of paperwork, but now it was cleared off. You leaned over the divider and snatched the piece of paper on the desk. Your eyes darted across the text:
"Leon S. Kennedy, we're putting you on a very special case for your first assignment. Your mission is to... unlock your desk! The key to your success is in the initials of our first names."
The note confirmed it. It was indeed that Leon. You plopped back into your seat and gnawed on the nail of your thumb. Your thoughts were now consumed as to how both Leon and yourself would react when he arrived. You could see it now...
He would laugh with the other officers as they shot the shit with him. He would be in the center of the group, they would slap him on the back and tell him how happy they were to have him on the force. His gaze would eventually land on you and he would excuse himself from them. Leon would smile and show off his perfect teeth. He'd saunter over and slowly shake his head, "I didn't expect to see you here, [F/N]."
You swallowed hard but your thoughts were interrupted when the sounds of glass shattered right outside of the office's door.
The chatter and hubbub in the office halted as everyone's attention turned toward the door.  An officer who wasn't much older than you rushed toward the noise, he couldn't make out exactly what it was from behind the glass of the door but drew his gun in preparation. He looked back at the office filled with you and your co-workers before opening the door slowly. "Hello?" he called out. His gun was pointed out into the hallway but found that there was nothing there. Then a sound of something you had never heard before or ever would forget echoed loudly in the empty hall.
It sounded like a monster, there was no other way to explain it. It pierced through your ears and then the sounds of the officer's shrieks shook your core. A loud gurgle erupted from his throat as he was tackled by a person onto the floor. This - person, dug their teeth deeply into his throat and proceeded to rip it out. Bright, red liquid sprayed from the wound across the floor. Two male officers threw themselves onto the assailant and tried their hardest to pull him off but soon were attacked as well. Gunshots blasted off in the office which then were accompanied by more sounds of broken glass. The assailant dropped dead beside the officers on the floor and everyone exchanged glances of pure terror.
"More are out there!" yelled Branagh as he held his weight against the door to stop any more of these "people" from killing everyone his subordinates. "Pistols aren't going to keep us alive for much longer," Rita cried out. "But Irons insisted we hide everything else away, remember!?" your fellow officers shouted at each other as tension rose - fear and panic began to set in.
"I know where some are," you piped up. "I have the keycard for the weapons locker," you reached into your shirt pocket and pulled out a white, plastic card. "Perks of being the newbie, I guess. I'll go." you walked toward the back door but stopped when Branagh barked at you, "You can't go alone!" You shook your head, "I will be right back, I promise." you disregarded his arguments and with a deep breath, opened the door and took off on your mission.
The hall was dark and quiet, the electricity must had been cut out in this section of town. You swallowed hard and with your pistol in on hand with the flashlight in the other, you took quiet yet brisk strides down the long stretch of hallway. All you could hear was the sounds of your bootsteps and the groans of those things that lurked just outside of the fences that kept the building somewhat safe. You needed these guns, no matter what. Or you and your co-workers would end up just like those officers - dead. Your breathing was heavy and your heart raced which could be felt in your skull, "Easy girl," you spoke out, "Just a few doors and you'll be there."
Time was not on your side, so you took off in a sprint. The feeling of being so vulnerable next to a stretch of windows worried you as you could fall victim to whatever those things were at any time. They weren't exactly "things" they looked human and most likely were but maybe they were deranged with some sort of illness. But nonetheless, they were dangerous and deadly... Just as you feared, one of them crashed through the window. Their greedy palms reached for you over the broken glass and managed to snag you by your hair. You screamed in pain and terror as their strength pulled you in but when you pulled away, you only pulled them closer. Your pistol flew from your hands and slid across the floor, too far for you to reach.
Their bloody jaws snapped as they tried their hardest to sink their teeth into your soft flesh. You could feel their breath on your skin and you struggled but could feel your strength giving way to theirs. There was only one thing you could do and it was to grab the knife that was attached to the side of your right leg. Your fingertips were just barely able to reach the handle but with one quick lunge of your body, you grabbed hold of the weapon. The desire to survive charged your strength and you began to saw through the strands of your hair that were gripped tight in the clutches of the creature. Tears poured down the sides of your face as you sawed through the strands that were the barrier between you and certain death.
The creature was now halfway over the window and their hand still had your [h/c] hair in between their fingers, jaws still snapped at you as they begged to taste your flesh. You scrambled on all fours as you attempted to gather yourself so that you could press on. Your foot slipped on a large piece of broken glass which sent you across the floor, you then landed onto a large chunk of broken glass. The sharp piece embedded itself deep into your knee and you cried in pain as you held your leg close to your chest. The creature dug its nails into the tile floor and started to crawl toward you with dead eyes, and bloody teeth. You took several deep breaths as you prepared to yank the glass from your leg and with one last deep inhale, you yanked it out. You cried in pain but knew that you had to keep going, your muscle burned as it now was exposed to the air. You made sure to grab your pistol from the floor before you continued on.
Your sprint was now resorted to a quick limp but you managed to make it to the locker room. To your dismay, it was mostly empty besides a couple of shotguns and some ammunition. "Fuck! Fuck! This isn't enough!" you screamed as you pounded your fist against one of the lockers. Inside one of the open lockers was a weapons bag which you were able to fill with the lackluster amount of supplies. As you zipped up the bag, the metal door to the room opened and the sound drew your attention. Your pistol was ready and you limped around the corner to hide behind a row of lockers to hide from who or whatever it was. The room was dark but a flashlight flipped around the room, whoever it was, they were there to look for those guns or you. Your thumb slowly pulled the hammer back on the weapon and rounded the corner, "Stop right there!" you yelled.
It was a man and he seemed to be normal for the most part. He complied and raised his arms in the air. "Turn around!" Again, he complied and did a slow 180. Through the faint glow of his flashlight, your eyes caught a glimpse of a set of familiar moonstone pools.
"[Y/N]?!" his voice raised in shock. The entire city was faced with an apocalypse scenario or even the whole world for all you knew and the one person you run into is Leon -- Leon Kennedy.
He dropped his arms and grabbed hold of your, then pulled you into a tight hug. Leon smelled of sweat and cologne, the very cologne that you bought for him as a graduation gift. You breathed him in as it registered to you that this was real, he was really here. But you pulled away, "Leon, we have no time for chit chat. We gotta get moving, people need these guns!" you pointed to the bag that sat on the floor by your feet. As you tried to throw it over your shoulder, you winced in pain. "Here, let me get it." Leon attempted to take it from your hand but you paused before you surrendered the precious cargo, "I can trust you with this, right?" your grip was tight on the strap, "When have you ever doubted me?" he asked with a smile, "You don't want to know that..." your grip released as you responded but also pointed the fact that your leg was injured.
"Sorry to be a liability," you apologized, but Leon pulled you to his side, "Nonsense. I got this and you, just keep an eye out for zombies."
You led Leon down the hallway that you had your close brush with death in, the zombie, as Leon called it, was now gone. But when the two of you reached the door to the office, it was eerily quiet. Not a good sign. You pushed the door open to find the office void of any life, nothing but blood. Lots and lots of blood. Your heart hurt as you felt a pain in your chest, was everyone dead? The lifeless body of Rita laid on the floor with her eyes opened, her brown orbs were absent of the vibrant life she once had.
Tears welled in your eyes but as you turned to flee, you bumped into Leon's chest. A look of horror on Leon's face matched yours, "I-I left them not even an hour ago..." you cried into his shirt for a moment as he held you lightly with one arm. When you pulled away, you wiped your eyes and Leon took your hand from your face.
"I'm happy you're alive, [Y/N]," you examined your matured features and you did his. His hair grew a little longer than when you had seen him last and he examined your frazzled locks. Just as you opened your mouth to speak, a door behind Leon opened and shut. A man walked out from the shadows and into the light, it was Branagh. He held onto his side and you could see he was injured with his shirt heavily stained with what was most likely his blood.
Leon pulled his pistol out and pointed it at your superior while he had a protective hand on your arm. Branagh coughed a wheezed laugh and shooed his gun out of his face. He looked over to you and smiled, "Good to see you're still breathing, [Y/N]." The Lieutenant approached your male companion and placed a bloody hand on his shoulder,
"You must be Leon Kennedy -- well, son, welcome to Raccoon City."

“I don’t think he loves me anymore.”
“No way… That’s not the case, I’m sure!”
“That’s what I want to think but…”
Suna could barely believe as he stood outside the bedroom door, hand barely making contact with the handle. Was that really what you thought?
“I wonder if it’s normal for couples to fall out of love at this stage.”
“Mm… there’s certainly been couples I’ve known like that. They were in love for years but after they got married they decided it wasn’t the life for them and divorced.”
Suna heard your gasp follow the tinny voice from the phone. He had heard of similar stories before but never thought it would happen to him and you.
Ever since you had gotten together, he was always subtle in his love. He was never the type to outright say “I love you” in public or to boldly proclaim his love for you on social media. Suna preferred linking pinkies while walking or to post photos of your study dates with simple captions like “another ‘10 minute break’” or “we are going to collapse”.
Despite this, when you were in the privacy of your apartment, he almost never left your side. It was either his head on your lap, his legs laying over yours on the couch, or you sitting on his lap in some way albeit still being relatively quiet.
So to think you were getting upset with the little attention he was showing recently had him confused. Wasn’t he always like this?
“But Y/N, I doubt Suna-san’s fallen out of love. Isn’t it just that his new job with EJP Raijin is keeping him busy?”
“Y-Yeah but… he hasn’t said anything about it. He comes back late and leaves early and it just… It just sucks so much! I don’t know what to do!” you sob and Suna can hear the sound of you blowing your nose and coughing through your tears.
Taking a step back from the bedroom door, the middle blocker moved to the couch and sat for a moment, head in his hands. He knew love couldn’t be perfect. A perfect relationship without fights or problems was just waiting to crumble from the slightest crack in it. But he wanted to at least prevent you from thinking this way.
He wanted you to know he did love you.
Later that night, he crawled into the bed, freshly showered and in his pyjamas - an old thin t-shirt and a pair of boxers. You laid beside him in your own pyjamas - one of his big t-shirts and a pair of shorts.
“Y/N,” he turned onto his side and called your name, causing you to almost jump while attempting to fall asleep with your swirling thoughts.
“Yes, Rin?”
“You have a free day tomorrow too, don’t you?”
“Well… yes. Why?”
The bed shifted under his movement to hold himself over you.
“W-Wait a second! Rin! I’m not prepared or anything- mmf!”
He pressed his lips to yours, his fox-like eyes shut delicately as he kissed you passionately. Before you knew it, his hands moved to your sides and began to lift the edge of the shirt up, but were quickly pushed down.
“Rintarou,” you lightly pushed on his chest, “I uh… I’m not wearing any nice underwear… A-And I haven’t shaved. Can I go change and do that?”
Honestly you were very surprised that he suddenly wanted to do this. Suna was always one to do things out of the blue; your relationship was built on impromptu dates and spontaneous gifts he claimed ‘reminded him of you’, but this really had came out of nowhere.
You hadn’t been intimate in weeks and you wanted to at least look good for it, but Suna just shook his head.
“You’re fine like this. I love you however you look.” He leaned back down and began to place kisses along your jaw and neck.
His kisses were softer than usual, you noted. And his hands weren’t rushing to tear your clothes off like he usually did.
“Rin- ah! Rintarou, why are you doing this all of a sudden?”
“We’re both free tomorrow. Can’t I spend my free day with my girlfriend the way I want to?” he asked, looking up at you through his thin lashes.
“Still! That gives me more time to go get ready.”
“No,” he shook his head and continued to kiss and bite along your neck and collarbones, leaving his marks of love on your skin, “I want to spend every second that I can with you now that I have the time.”
“Wait a second.”
Suna finally pulled his lips away from your skin, now littered with little marks, “What’s wrong?”
“Since when were you so romantic? It just… Don’t get me wrong, I’m super happy it’s just a little funny…”
His eyes widened at the sight of tears welling up in your eyes.
“Y/N, are you okay?” he asked, cupping your face in his large rough hands gently.
“I’m more than okay! No… I don’t know why I’m crying…” you sob softly, rubbing at your eyes.
Suna chuckled lightly. “Is it because you’re filled with overwhelming love for me?”
“Rintarou!” you whined and hit his chest lightly. “You’re absolutely insufferable!”
“You say that but you were the one who asked me out on our graduation.”
“...you little shit. I really do love you.”
“Mm, I thought so. I love you too.” He continued to kiss and strip you.
Unlike your usual nights together which were spent fucking roughly, leaving bodies sore and lightly scarred, tonight was slow and loving albeit passionate as ever. Soft kisses and laughs were exchanged in the dark as Suna made love to you, thrusting slowly while mumbling words of love into your body.
The next morning, you were woken up by the feeling of a kiss on your forehead. Your eyelids fluttered open and you squinted in the morning light to see Suna sitting on his side of the bed, clad only in boxers. There was also the scent of eggs and toast, and when you looked down, you saw it sitting on a plate between you two.
“I’m no Osamu here. But I think my cooking is still edible,” your boyfriend sighed before flopping down onto the bed beside you and closing his eyes.
“You actually woke up to cook for me?” you asked, sitting up to look at the sunny-side-ups with broken yolks and the toast that was just a little too toasted for your liking.
“Surprised myself too,” he yawned before squinting his eyes open, “More like… I wanted to surprise you. And wake you up with a kiss.”
“You’re so cheesy today, aren’t you!”
“I know, I think it’s weird too.”
On that day, you knew he still loved you. And you loved him more than ever before.
But that happiness couldn’t last forever. In the city of Tokyo where sadness and troubles rained down, something was bound to happen. Even the most heavily cemented cracks could once again break under a heavy enough pressure.
Even if it took a couple of months.
“Rintarou! Welcome home!”
“Mm.”
Your brow furrowed slightly as you noticed his short answer. After shutting your laptop where you were answering some work related emails while waiting for your boyfriend, you made your way over to Suna who was hanging his winter coat by the door.
“Rin, are you alright?”
“Just tired.”
You sighed softly, “You shouldn’t overwork yourself. You need breaks sometimes too, you know?” And reached up to begin massaging his shoulders as you usually did. But he only pushed your hands away quickly, saying, “Not tonight,” before walking further into the apartment.
You bit your lower lip to prevent it from trembling any further while your hands stayed still as if frozen mid air. You were hesitating to tell him what you wanted to say earlier.
“Rintarou… Tomorrow you don’t have scheduled practice, right? I…” you took a deep breath as he turned to face you, eyes dark and heavy-looking.
“Yeah.”
“I was wondering… Well, I don’t have work tomorrow either so I reserved a place at a nice restaurant for dinner! I think we both need a bit of a break, work’s been so busy and you’re also training so intensely and-”
“No.”
“H- Huh?” you laughed nervously, “What do you mean by ‘no’?”
“It means what it means, I don’t want to go.”
“Rintarou, you can’t just- I can’t- I promise it’s a really nice place! A-And I wanted to spend some time with you…” there was a lump welling up in your throat as you tried not to suddenly pour out your recent feelings towards him.
The recent frustrations of not being able to spend much time with your boyfriend anymore, the annoyance at the way he would always spend his free time doing self training, the anger towards his schedule which rarely ever allowed you to meet, the sadness of the fact that your shared apartment no longer had the sound of laughter when you two played games or watched silly YouTube videos together...
All that frustration felt like it was just being held up behind that lump in your throat, and to think he would simply dismiss it without a second thought.
“You should’ve asked before you started making plans. I’m going to the gym tomorrow again. We have a match against the Red Falcons in two weeks so I need to become at least a bit stronger,” Suna explained monotonously, as if you should have known that already.
“I- I know but… I thought… it’d be a nice surprise…”
The man sighed and turned to walk towards the bathroom, ready to just shower and go to sleep. He simply could not be bothered to argue with you, thinking this problem would solve itself like it always did. But you had had enough of this issue.
Suna hadn’t even realised it was coming until he felt a small bell keychain hit the back of his head. It fell to the hardwood floor with a loud clang which lasted for far too long, causing him to inhale sharply and turn around, anger and annoyance replacing the bored expression on his face for once.
“What the hell is-” he was about to raise his voice until he saw the way your features trembled and your eyes had already become red and puffy. His own features softened and his body unstiffened. “Y/N…”
“You know, the least you could do is try to be nice to me!” you yelled, furiously wiping away the tears forming. “You could at least say “Mm, I’m really not free but we can do it some other time.” or some shit like that! But no! I- I’m busy too, you know! I’m trying to get promoted so I don’t have to rely on yer dumb ass all the time, but I still want to make time for you because I love you so much! But I don’t think ya get that!”
Something in the back of your mind was telling you not to say these things, that maybe you could just talk this out calmly. Maybe you didn’t have to explode, but something else told you this was the only way to get a point across.
“I’m your girlfriend, but I feel more like a roommate or burden at this point! Ya know, even ‘Tsumu’s able to make time for his girlfriend! And- And Bokuto’s always doing his promotions and ads but still makes time for his boyfriend! Ojiro-senpai too! Miyu-chan tells me he’s the one planning the dates! But ya can’t even be bothered to pretend you’re happy I tried ta plan somethin’ for us!”
Suna knew you really were angry when your dialect started coming out but he just didn’t know what to say. He could only stand there in silence with his head hanging like a child being scolded.
“Rintarou… I love you so much you know… I just wonder these days- no, I just wonder if you ever loved me back the same way.”
Oh, he knew. Ever since that night when he heard you crying on the phone, he knew he wasn’t doing enough.
“I… I’m sorry.” Suna looked up when he suddenly heard those words from you amidst the sobs and chokes.
“I already left your pyjamas on the bathroom counter… Please don’t… Just please don’t talk to me tonight.” you hurried to the tiny kitchen to wash your face as he silently made his way to the bathroom, thoughts swirling around in his head.
Suna stared at your figure silently for a second before bending down to pick up the bell - a cheap gift he had given you for your third month together right after you two first started university. It was old, the string slightly frayed and loose, and the golden paint had chipped in places to reveal the stainless steel underneath it. There was even a dent on the bottom from when you accidentally dropped one of your heavier textbooks onto it. It was old, and Suna had told you countless times it was fine to throw away, but you always kept it.
The man took it and carefully placed it back on the key rack before heading into the bathroom. He took his time in there, gathering his thoughts as he knew he wouldn’t be sharing a bed with you tonight.
It was understandable really, he hadn’t been a great boyfriend. Suna knew a relationship took work from both sides and he shouldn’t have been as blunt as he was earlier that night.
One couldn’t count the number of times he had muttered profanities aimed towards himself while sitting in the bathtub thinking about his mistakes. He didn’t know if you would even want to see him tomorrow morning. Maybe it was for the best he just went to the gym…
The next morning, Suna woke up early. Even in winter, the sun rose far too early in Japan for his taste. Sitting up and grumbling, he rubbed his eyes and stumbled to the bathroom to begin his morning routine.
Looking at himself in the mirror as he brushed his teeth, he could only sigh at the sight of the dark circles under his eyes.
Though you made him sleep on the stiff couch last night, you gave him the shared duvet and his pillow while you took the slightly thinner blanket from the closet.
Despite the added comfort, Suna could barely fall asleep. He kept twisting and turning, thinking about you. Your pained face, your strained voice, your kindness even when angry at him.
“I fucked up so bad,” he muttered once he washed his face and stared at his pathetically tired self in the mirror, water dripping from the ends of his hair. Would you want to break up with him after that? He’d understand if you wanted to, though he knew he would never be able to forgive himself for losing you because of some stupid mistake he could have prevented.
Suna sighed for what felt like the thousandth time in the past 12 hours and dabbed his face dry with a towel. He knew that now would be the hardest bit - entering your bedroom to get his change of clothes.
Opening the door as slowly as possible in order to prevent the loud whiny creaking that he wished he had fixed months ago, Suna walked slowly towards the open closet. As quickly as possible, he grabbed a set of clothes and turned to face the door. Though it wasn’t without looking at your sleeping form on the large bed.
Your face was puffy, dehydrated from sobbing last night, only emphasised by the wads of used tissues on the nightstand and floor. He noticed your breathing was a bit heavier than usual and your body was curled up as you hugged the thin blanket as close to yourself as you could.
The sight pained him intensely.
With silent footsteps, Suna set his clothes on his side (the empty side) of the bed and tiptoed out to grab the duvet before returning and carefully laying it over your body. He tucked it right up to your chin as you always liked it and sat on the floor, eyes scanning every little feature on your face. From the smallest moles he loved to kiss to each individual eyelash.
“You’re not hearing this, I guess,” he muttered, looking down at the floor for a moment before looking back up at you, “I thought about it for a really long time. I really should’ve been better to you.”
The silence in the room was deafening.
Suna gulped and bit the inside of his cheek as he thought about his next words, wondering if you could hear him in your sleep.
“I always left you alone but you would always be nice to me. When you could, you’d make me bentos and clean the house while I did the laundry. Hm… putting stuff into a machine isn’t anywhere equal to cooking and cleaning surfaces, but I guess that’s another point to make.”
Suna smiled to himself just a bit at the memory of you running into the bedroom to make him try your new pastries or dinner creations. He always thought you were so adorable in your old and stained apron that sometimes he would just stand in the kitchen to chat with you or watch you cook.
Then he was reminded of the dinner you had planned for the two of you and he suddenly frowned remembering how horrible he acted towards you the night before.
“You never expected me to be perfect since day one. I think I’m the furthest thing from a handsome prince on a white horse. But you’ve always been wonderful to me. And I was thinking…” You were asleep, right? Was it worth it to say such cheesy things?
“I kept wondering if you would leave and I thought I don’t want to lose you. I’m nowhere close to a prince but I thought I want to always be the one who wakes you up with a kiss. Or, I want you to wake me up with a kiss. Either is fine really. But… yeah. I’m sorry. Really, really sorry. ” He was certain you weren’t hearing these things yet there was a dark blush on his cheeks.
Until he saw you shift in the bed.
Suna swears his heart stopped momentarily as he leaned closer, checking to see if you had woken up.
Your eyelids slowly opened and you squinted tiredly at Suna, just barely able to see him with how blurry your vision had become. “Rin…?”
The man hurried to his feet, hoping his morning wouldn’t feel any heavier than it already did.
“I’m gonna give you some space. I’ll be back after my jog.”
Suna turned to exit the bedroom but was stopped by the sound of stumbling, followed by your warmth around his waist and resting on his back.
“Please… don’t go.”
He stared silently at the floor in front of him.
“I don’t think you want to-”
“Stay here! …please?”
Your soft voice broke but mended his heart at the same time. The scratchiness and fear in your voice contrasted with the words that he wanted to hear so badly.
“Did you…”
“Yeah, I heard everything.”
“You’re not mad?”
“Of course I’m still a little mad. But right now I’m just really happy you would say those things when you normally wouldn’t tell me how you feel. So… please, don’t go. Stay with me.”
The few moments of silence seemed to pass in eons as Suna took in a shaky breath before turning to hug you tightly, burying his face into your neck so you couldn’t see his tears of relief.
“Of course I will. I won’t go anywhere, babe.”
Four years have passed since that night. Suna yawns and scrunches up his face slightly at the way the sunlight enters your shared bedroom. Squinting his eyes, he looks around the room and wonders if maybe he should’ve put on a shirt like you did last night to deal with the first bites of winter. Then again, you did take his shirt.
He then looks to you, sleeping quietly by his side. You looked a little like a mess; hair messy, dwarfed in his big shirt, cheek smushed against the pillow, but he thought you looked adorable.
It’s cold, but he feels warm by your side.
And when he looks down at your left hand resting under his even in your sleep, the sight of the silver ring with its diamonds adorning your finger makes his heart even warmer.

Comfy
This is my first fanfic. I’m sorry if the writing is bad, I tried my hardest.
Peter Parker and reader
Warnings: fluffy fluff, like one swear word I think, my attempts at comedy
Word count: 4,465
     You and Peter had just started dating so you were still very awkward around him. Every time he complimented you, you blushed hard. You still freaked out whenever he asked to come over or to hangout. You always had to make sure your room looked presentable, brushing your hair and teeth and even flossing. You couldn’t wait until more time went by and you were completely comfortable around him.
    You had gotten a text from him about 10 minutes ago saying he was coming over so you immediately got to it. You picked up the dirty clothes from the floor and threw them into your closet. You hid your embarrassing stuffed animals, that you still needed to sleep with, under your bed and you quickly rushed to the bathroom to brush and floss your teeth and to put on some perfume that you knew he liked. Just as you were walking out of the bathroom you heard a knock on your bedroom door.
    “Y/n. Can I come in?” You heard Peter ask, quickly checking yourself in the mirror one last time.
     “Yeah.” You replied, kicking a stray sock under your bed.  “Who let you in?” Both of your parents were away at a work event.
     “Oh, your sister did.” He replied, looking down to his fidgeting hands. Peter was also a little uncomfortable around you, getting nervous here and there. Definitely not as much as you were but he was still new to the whole relationship thing. MJ was his first relationship and you were his second.
    “So um… what do you want to do?” He asked, looking up at you. God, you loved when he did that. It made him look so innocent, almost puppy-like. Now that you thought about it, Peter Parker was basically a puppy. Something you protect at all costs and something that was so adorable you could melt.
    “Do you want to watch a movie?” You asked, making your way onto your bed, grabbing your laptop from your nightstand.  “We can watch Star Wars.” You said in a sing-song voice, knowing that would have him hooked. You saw his eyes light up and he started to come over.
    “You know I can’t pass that up.” Peter sunk down into the mattress beside you, pulling the covers up over the both of you. You immediately felt very awkward. You and Peter usually watched movies on the couch or he would watch Star Wars on your bed while you did homework. You felt yourself get really hot and your face turn red.
    “I’m gonna go make some popcorn.” You said suddenly, immediately getting up, not even waiting for an answer. Obviously Peter sensed that you were uncomfortable and debated whether to meet you in the kitchen or just to wait until you came back. He heard the microwave beep and the smell of popcorn that soon filled the house.
    You started to look around for a bowl, finally finding one on the top shelf of your pantry. Of course you couldn’t reach it. Why do I have to be so short?
You really didn’t want to ask Peter for help but it was the only way so you did.
    “Peter, can you get this bowl for me?” You yelled
    “Coming.” Peter dashed out of the room, grateful that you made his stay or go decision for him. He met you in the pantry and easily grabbed the bowl for you. He wasn’t that much taller than you, but the extra inches was all he needed to easily reach the bowl.
    “Thanks.” You said, taking the bowl from him. You made your way back to the microwave and removed the bag, careful not to burn yourself. You started to pour it in the bowl when you felt Peter's arms grab around your waist and bring you into a hug.
    “Peter!” You cried, blushing hard. “You’re going to make me spill it.” You held onto his arms as he swayed softly.
   “Your hair smells nice.” You felt butterflies in your stomach as he nuzzled into your neck. Why’d he have to be so sweet and cute all the time? There was never a minute around him that you weren’t blushing at something he said or did. He squeezed you tighter, making you squirm a bit.
  “Peter, let me go!” You squealed, trying to get free.
  “Nope! You’re stuck with me!” He replied squeezing you even tighter. You were so distracted with Peter's death hug that neither of you realized your sister watching you
     “Um? Can I get a drink please?” Mia asked, gesturing to her cup. Both of you scrambled quickly out of the hug and your checks felt red.
     “Oh! Uh… yeah, sorry.” You replied, nervously crossing your arms in front of your chest. Peter was standing beside you, fidgeting with his hands. You noticed that whenever he was nervous or embarrassed he would do that and you thought it was the cutest thing. You quickly went back to pouring the popcorn into the bowl, glaring at Peter when he stole some.
    “Save some for the movie!” You said, shoving him lightly. He rolled his eyes playfully, smiling then running his hand through his curly hair. Oh you loved his curly hair so much. There literally is nothing that you don’t like about him and you’re fine with that. Mia had already gotten her drink and was watching the two of you.
    “You guys need to get a room.” She said, making both you and Peter blush. She reached past you, stealing a couple pieces of popcorn.
    “Seriously, you too!” You scolded. “Mia just leave.”
    “Where did you think I was going?” She replied, turning to go to her room.
    “Sorry.” You said back to Peter.
    “Don’t make me an aunt y/n!” Mia yelled from down the hall, closing her door. You gave her the biggest eye roll of your life, blushing once more when your eyes met Peters again.
    “Um… you ready?” You asked him.
     “Uh… yeah.” He replied, grabbing the popcorn and following you to your room. You moved the covers out of the way and sat down, Peter doing the same thing and putting the popcorn between you too.
    “Which one do you want to watch?l” he asked, shoving some popcorn into his mouth.
    “I don’t really care. They’re all basically the same.” You said grabbing some popcorn, not noticing Peter's disappointed look.
    “What! Y/n! How are you even my girlfriend, seriously! They’re all so different, how do you not know this? I watch them literally all the time.” You giggled at his response. This was the first time either of you had mentioned the whole boyfriend girlfriend thing, but you actually didn’t mind it. It made you feel all warm inside hearing him refer to you as his girlfriend.
    “I’m usually doing homework while you’re watching, I’ve only actually paid attention to like one.” You shoved another handful of popcorn into your mouth, watching Peter playfully roll his eyes at you and smile softly.
    “Whatever you say, we’re watching the first one and I’m gonna make sure you’re paying attention.”
    “Ok, ok!” For the first time ever you felt strangely comfortable around him. You were finally able to be your usual sarcastic self around him. Not that you hadn’t before but usually you were super awkward when it was just him and you. This was great. The movie started playing and you actually watched it this time, instead of dozing off or daydreaming. Peter couldn’t help but steal quick glances at you. He noticed your soft expression, attentively watching the movie. The way you bit softly at your lip every once in a while or how your eyes reflected the movie. He wanted to put his arm around you but didn’t know how you would react so he kept to himself. You could feel him looking at you a couple times, making you blush inside. Eventually, the credits began to appear and you rubbed your eyes lightly.
   “Well, what’d you think?” Peter asked, eating the last piece of popcorn. It actually ended up being really good, but Peter didn’t need to know that.
  “It was ok, I guess.” You said, trying not to smile and stretching your arms.
    “Just ok?”
    “Don’t push it Parker.” You replied, rolling your eyes. Suddenly it began to rain, hard. You watched the water droplets run heavily down your window.
    “Well, I guess you’re staying over.” You said, walking over to the window to close your curtains.
     “Are you sure? I don’t mind walking home.” Peter said, swinging his feet over to meet the floor.
     “Are you crazy? You can’t walk home in this. Besides it’s late.” You said, just noticing it was 11:07.
     “Um… ok. I’m just gonna call May.” He said fidgeting with his hands. Now he was the awkward one. He went to the kitchen to call his aunt while you went back to your bed, Peter coming in soon after.
     “Thanks.”
     “Yeah, sure anytime. So now what.”
     “We can watch the next one?” He suggests climbing into bed next to you.
     “Alright fine, but I can’t promise I’ll stay awake. I’m tired.” You said letting out a yawn. Peter's warm brown eyes seemed even more innocent, if that was even possible and you felt the butterflies from earlier return. The next movie began to play and you were instantly captivated. The special effects were actually really good considering when it was made and you really enjoyed the plot. It was about half way in when you noticed Peter start to doze off. I thought I was the one supposed to be falling asleep.
    A couple minutes went by and you flinched lightly when his head fell onto your shoulder. It felt nice, comforting to know that he could fall asleep on you. You instantly felt tired as well and turned off the movie. You didn’t want to actually lay down in fear of waking him so you leaned your head on top of his and curled into his side. He was very warm and sleep instantly overcame you.
    You woke up first, noticing your arms intertwined with his. Another thing you noticed about him was his arms. He was ripped. You didn’t know how or why he was so fit, considering he never said anything about working out, but hey, you definitely weren’t complaining. You grabbed your phone from the nightstand and checked the time. 11:45. Shit. My parents will be home soon. You lightly ran your hands through Peters hair, slowly going down to his shoulder to shake him lightly.
    “Peter. Wake up. It’s 11:45, my parents will be back soon.” You said in a hushed whisper. Peter opened his eyes slightly, letting out a groan.
    “Ugh… just five more minutes.” He groaned, grabbing onto your arm tightly. You smiled at his cute sleepy voice before snapping back to reality.
    “Peter, let me go. My parents will be back soon and I don’t want them to think we did anything.” You tried to pull your arm out of his death grip but it wouldn’t budge. How is he so strong?
    “Peter!”
    “Y/n!” He groaned at you, his eyes still shut
     “Let me go!” You squealed, frantically trying to free your arm.
    “Never!” Peter grabbed your waist pulling you in tighter. You blushed at how close you too were, your noses practically touching.
    “Peter, I’ll come over later, ok. It will only be like 2 hours until you see me again.” You said softly to him.
    “Alright.” He agreed, releasing you. You went to the bathroom to change your clothes and to brush your teeth. The popcorn taste still in your mouth from last night. When you came out, Peter was still in the bed. Boys are so annoying. Letting out a sigh, you walked over to your bed and poked Peters’ cheek a few times.
    “Peter get up. I will drag you out of this bed if I have to.” He let out a soft groan but still didn’t budge.
     “Fine then.” You said and pulled his legs over the side. Then you grabbed his shoulders and tried to roll him over. He was a lot heavier than you expected. It took nearly all your strength to finally roll him off the bed. Thud.
    “Ow.” Peter said, lying on the floor. You tried your best to not laugh but you couldn’t help it.
    “Should have gotten up then.” You replied, grabbing his hands to help him up. Again, taking most of your strength.
    “Next time, you’re gonna be the one rolling me out of bed, Parker.” You snarked at him.
    “No problem, I’ll just carry you, like this.” He said, reaching under your legs and around your arms, bridal style. You blushed a little while in his arms. He began to spin you around.
    “Peter! Put me down!” You laughed, feeling dizzy when he stopped.
    “You’re no fun.” He pouted, his eyes staring into you. You rolled your eyes at him and started pushing him out of your room, through the kitchen and into the hallway of the building.
    “Sorry, but you gotta go. I’ll see you later.” You closed the door and walked into the kitchen to get some water. You were all smiley and giddy after he left. Only Peter could do this to you.
    “Later” had finally rolled around and after greeting your parents, you decided to text Peter.
     Can I come over?
     Duh. You laughed at his response before asking your mom if you could go over.
   “Yeah sure, just call me if your staying over.” Your mom said.
    “Thanks, I love you.” You replied, turning to open the door. Peter lived in the apartment complex just down the street from yours so it only took you about a five minute walk to get there. You knocked on the door and were greeted by May.
  “Oh hi y/n! It’s so good to see you! Please come in.” She said holding the door open for you. You stepped inside, wiping your feet on the mat so you didn’t track muddy water from last night’s storm through the house.
  “Thanks.” You replied, smiling and tucking your hair behind your ear.
  “Will you be staying for dinner? I ordered Chinese because I know it’s your favorite and Peter said you’d be over.” May was the sweetest person you knew. This must be where Peter got it from.
   “That’s so sweet of you! I guess I’ll stay.” You said, kicking your shoes off.
    “Of course! You’re welcome here anytime.” You gave her a smile and made your way towards Peter’s room. You had been here several times before, to do homework or study. You and Peter both had the same classes so you often studied together. You knocked on Peter’s door softly.
   “Peter?” You said, when he didn’t answer. You waited a little before going in. You opened the door and went to sit on his bed. You figured he must be in the shower. You decided to scroll through instagram for a bit until he was done. Liking your friends post about seeing Spider-Man in person. You always dreamed of what it would be like to meet any of the Avengers. Iron Man was your favorite but you also like Spider-Man because of his super strength and web shooters. You started texting your friend back, telling them how cool they were to meet your idol when suddenly the door opened. You looked up to see Peter with just a towel around his waist. He was ripped. He had abs and his arms looked amazing. You immediately blushed a dark red. How did you not notice this before. Probably because this was the first time you’d seen him without a shirt on. His hair was wet, making his curls look really defined. You were basically drooling but forced yourself to come back to reality before he noticed.
  “Oh sorry! I didn’t know you were here.” He said, fidgeting with his hands. “Could you um… hand me my shirt. It’s right by you on the bed.”
  “Oh um…sure.” You replied, handing him the shirt. You tried your best to not look at his chest but failed. He definitely picked up on it, grinning softly and looking at the floor. You quickly turned away, looking back at your phone as he went back into the bathroom to change. A couple minutes later he came out, fully clothed this time. You put down your phone and stood up.
  “Um… do you want to continue watching Star Wars?” You asked, noticing how he was fidgeting with his hands again.
   “Uh sure” He replied, leading the way to the couch. He got the movie started and sat down awkwardly beside you. It was weird considering how you literally slept in the same bed last night and right now, it feels like you just met. About 10 minutes into the movie you started getting really cold. Your apartment didn’t have air conditioning so when you came over, you were always cold. Peter noticed you shivering but didn’t really know what to do.
  “Are you cold?” He asked, turning towards you.
   “A little.” You replied, rubbing your hands on your arms, trying to warm them. Peter reached for a blanket on the back of the couch and handed it to you.
   “Here.” He said handing you the large grey blanket.
   “Thanks.” You draped the blanket over you but it didn’t do much. You were still shivering a little. Peter noticed and pulled you closer to him. He pulled the blanket around both of you and hugged you into his chest. He could smell your shampoo and perfume, making him relax. You blushed at his sweet gesture noticing his smell too. It was so comforting and you didn’t feel cold anymore.
   “Is that better?” He asked, looking down at you with his warm brown eyes. You literally melted right then and there.
   “Yes. Thank you.” You nuzzled into his chest, turning back to watch the movie. Peter admired how cute you looked, being all snuggled on his chest. How had he not done this sooner, being your boyfriend that is. He had liked you for a year before he finally got the courage to ask you out. Well, to ask you to study with him. He told you he liked you that night. You had liked him since the day you met at the decathlon, 2 years prior.
His fingers drew soft circles on your side, making you feel butterflies of warmth. You looked up to see him staring at you intently. You noticed his hair curled more when it was wet. How his eyes seemed softer when you were like this. You noticed his lips, slightly open. Thinking about how magical it would be to kiss them. His sharp jaw line that seemed to cut right through you. You felt yourself being pulled towards him, your mouth parting. You brought your hand up his chest, feeling his toned muscles. Your hands making their way to the back of his neck. You ran your fingers through his hair as he started pulling you closer to him. Your stomach felt like there was a whole butterfly migration going through it. Your noses were touching now and you slowly brought your head up to meet his lips, about to receive your first kiss.
   “Peter, y/n!” You heard May call from the other room, immediately snapping you out of your trance and you literally flew off of him, returning back to your awkward self. Peter turned around to look at May.
   “Yeah?” He said.
    “I’m going to pick up the food. I’ll be back in about 20 minutes.”
    “Ok.” He replied. Turning back towards the tv, his hands fidgeting. You wrapped yourself back up in the blanket, feeling cold again without Peter's warm touch. You couldn’t believe what just happened, or what almost just happen. You and Peter avoided each other until May came back with the food. Turning your attention back to the movie and processing the events of yesterday and today. Peter falling asleep on your shoulder, you cuddling with him. You having to drag him out of bed, and him spinning you around like a toddler. You seeing him without his shirt and of course, the time 20 minutes ago when you almost kissed. Thankfully, you just heard May get back so you didn’t have to be on this fucking couch anymore.
    “Hey guys I’m back. Come eat.” May yelled, taking the food out of the bags and putting various kinds of chicken, ramen and rice on plates. You and Peter quickly went to the kitchen, the smell of spring rolls and ramen filling the house. You grabbed the plate that was mostly ramen with some chicken while Peter chose a plate with everything on it and to top it off, he added about 15 spring rolls to his pile.
   “Jesus Peter, how many spring rolls do you need?” You cried out, gesturing to his plate.
   “I’m a growing boy y/n, I eat a lot.” He replied with a goofy grin, making you laugh hysterically. May and Peter gave you strange looks as you were almost crying from laughing so hard.
   “You did not just say that!” You giggled, setting your plate down.
   “What? That I’m a growing boy?” He replied. You nodded while uncontrollable laughter over came you, making Peter and May laugh also. After a couple minutes you began to calm down, whipping the tears from your eyes.
   “Sorry, that was just really funny.” You said before shoving ramen into your mouth.
   “So Y/n, how are your parents? I haven’t seen them in forever.” May asked.
   “Oh they’re fine. They were on a work trip this past week. They just got back today.” You replied, noticing Peter was already almost halfway done with his food while you had barely eaten any of yours.
   “Peter slow down, geez!” Cried May, noticing his fast eating too.
   “I’m hungry.” He muffled, his mouth full.
   “Yes we’ve been over that.” You replied, rolling your eyes at him. The rest of dinner consisted of awkward small talk between you and May with Peter joint in occasionally. May was really sweet but it’s still kinda awkward talking to her.
    After you were all finished eating, you and Peter did the dishes. You both mostly kept to yourselves, not wanting to create yet another embarrassing moment. When the last few dishes were put in the dishwasher, you started to make your way towards Peter's room. Just before you got there, Peter grabbed your arm, and spun around to face him. You were confused, obviously. You and Peter were both silent, neither wanting to break up this moment together. Peter took a step closer to you, making him practically on top of you. You looked up at him, noticing his eyes were soft again. His hand made its way from your wrist to your waist, pulling you in closer. The butterflies returned, as well as the heat from when you were with him under the blanket.
    You ran your hand up his chest, feeling his abs clench at your touch. You brought both hands up to the back of his neck. His other hand cupped your face. At last, he leaned down and closed his eyes. Finally it was happening. You closed your eyes and stood on your tippy toes. Your lips collided and it was equal parts ecstasy and magic. You tasted the many spring rolls on his lips as he parted them for you. You turned your head slightly to make it easier for him. You couldn’t believe what was happening. You were kissing Peter Parker. The only boy you’ve wanted to kiss for two years.
    You never wanted it to end, never wanting this feeling to be over. He grabbed your waist tighter, slightly lifting you with his strong arms. Your hands in his hair, twisting it in your fingers. He broke off slightly to open his door and lead you to his bed. He sat down and lifted you onto his lap. Normally this position would make you embarrassed but you were too captivated by him to care. He kissed you twice as passionately as before, your tongues interwoven. Damn he’s a good kisser. Not that you had anything to compare him to. You heard a knock at the door suddenly, but you were too captivated by him to actually do anything about it. You continued making out with him, pulling his hair more.
  “Peter.” You heard May yell through the door. You knew what was about to happen but you were too occupied by this magical kiss to care. Sure enough, the door swung open, leaving you and Peter exposed to May.
  “Hey Peter- oh my gosh! Sorry!” She exclaimed, closing the door. Peter pushed you off of him, his cheeks bright red.
  “Im gonna… um… go see what she needs.” He told you shakily. He opened the door and you saw May covering her eyes and shaking her head every once in a while. You wiped your mouth off a little bit and smoothed down your hair. You couldn’t believe May had just seen the two of you like this. You tried to make out what they were saying.
    “Can I look?” May said, still covering her eyes.
    “Uh… yeah. Im sorry.” Peter said, scratching his head and looking down.
    “I’m gonna take a shower then go to bed early.”
    “Ok.”
   “I’m trusting you, Peter.” She said looking at him intensely. “Please be safe. Goodnight.” She said, kissing Peter’s forehead.  “Love you.”
   “Love you too, May.” Peter replied before closing the door. He made his way back over to the bed, sitting down next to you just like before.
   “So um… do you want to watch Star Wars?” He asked, making you giggle.
  “Sure.” You said, tucking a stray hair behind your ear. He got his laptop and turned on the movie. You both got under the covers, this time you cuddled right into him. Savoring his warmth and his smell that you’d grown to love. He put his arm around you, pulling you close, fingers brushing light circles on your skin. Your head was on his chest and you could hear his heartbeat. You never wanted to leave this warm, safe haven he had created. He pressed a light kiss to your forehead, making you blush.
   “I love it when you do that.” He said looking down at you.
   “Do what?” You questioned, looking up at him, confused at his statement.
   “When you blush every time I compliment or touch you. It’s cute.” He said, brushing the hair that had fallen in your face out of the way. You smiled softly, doing the exact thing he just described.
   “You’re pretty cute too, Parker.” You said looking intensely into his warm brown eyes.
   “Also…” you started, “how are you so fit?”
   “Wh-What do you mean?” He stuttered. You lightly hit his chest, scoffing.
   “No one just has abs.” You tell him.
   “I don’t know. I must have good genes I guess.” He said, blushing a little. You rolled your eyes at him before nuzzling back into his chest. Your heart swelling at how much you cared for him. Your eyelids felt heavy, tired from the drama of today. You closed your eyes and quickly drifted to sleep, savoring this moment for as long as you could.

The return
It’s coming up to 3 months since we returned to our block and it took us 8 weeks to slow down. On the weekend we slowed down we enjoyed the first official Friday night catch up with our neighbours as the full moon rose. On Saturday we went out for brunch. No sport on Sunday morning meant a sleep in. I played handball with my boys for the first time ever in my life. Lamb shanks slow cooked on the wood heater. We squeezed in a late Sunday afternoon fishing trip. It took us 8 weeks to find some calm. We had forgotten how to do normal. I haven’t written for this blog since um wow December?! My leisure time since then has been extremely limited and when it occurred I prioritised my mental wellbeing and sleep.
This journey has brought me to the edge of my psychological and physical limitations. I watched my husband do a terminator style non stop renovation while trying also to commence a rebuild. His promises to take time off over Christmas dwindled to 2 days. There was so much to do. I helped with whatever jobs I was able to and then focussed on the household and occasionally, our boys. Midway through January this year we realised trying to work on both the renovation and the rebuild was insanity. The local real-estate market was booming. Post COVID, Sydney city dwellers realised they could put in a few days in the city then work from their coastal holiday pad the rest of the week. We decided to get our investment property, come bushfire haven, onto the market before the summer ended. We mapped out each remaining job and the days required to accomplish them. We calculated selling time, settlement time and remaining bank balance. What were need to do’s and what were optional extras. If everything went to plan, we could pay to get some work done at the block and make it habitable enough to move into. It was an extreme test of time, energy and resources.
It worked. We listed by the end of February, sold in three weeks and settled five weeks after settlement. I write that all in one glib sentence. Of course all of that only happened with considerable focus and effort. Life for the boys was hectic. 99% of their toys were packed and moved into storage weeks before the house went on the market. As the house neared completion we stressed about them damaging something. When the house was on the market we stressed about them getting things dirty - the walls, the windows or the cupboards. I banished them from the bathroom, they had to brush teeth in the laundry and shower outside. Luckily it was warm and didn’t rain much in those few weeks! Anyone who has sold a house while living in it knows how painful open homes are. The logistics and effort of cleaning and styling, while working full time from home, scheduling everything between work appointments, getting the dog out of the way and the boys to school, nearly broke me. Thankfully the selling process was short, but we packed a lot of opens into that time and by the end of it all, I had become a shouty, grouchy mum and wife. It was also a real highlight to hit menopause and bring some phenomenal hormonal energy into the mix. Phew.
Before we packed up and left I was lucky enough to have a week away with the boys. My fully wired self hit Melbs and my family gave me refuge and forgave my intensity. We managed some fun and the change of scenery was a big relief. Husband, however, stayed behind to work on the temporary shed home. Holiday behind me, I returned to packup and clean and polish the house for the financial return of our lives. Literally.
Can you then imagine our triumphant and spectacular return to our block bathed in happiness and light? Um well perhaps instead picture this - we arrived exhausted to an unpowered, work in progress temporary residence in the middle of a mice plague and endured 200ml of heavy rain in four days leaving us surrounded by mud. Happy to catch the rain in our tank? I wish! The new tank leaked 8000L the week before we moved, and only our neighbour’s spare tank loan meant we had any water at all. But being so small, it overflowed and made even more mud. The heavy rain was so loud on the tin roof it frequently woke the kids in the night (who then woke us), mice ran across the floor, huntsmen spiders dropped from the ceiling. With nowhere really to unpack things, cooking became like the biggest ever memory game, which box were the bowls in? Where did I pack the cutlery? The rain delayed our solar power install so for 10 days we lived out of an esky and by torchlight. We both kept working full time, getting the boys to school, after school sport commitments and then husband kept building after he got home and into the night. After a week of stress and chaos we knew something had to give, fortunately husband could take time off work to focus on our build and family life.
Fast forward to now. The financial pressure of the summer has eased. The temporary living quarters are functional and steadily improving. We have a beautiful wood heater. Our off grid solar system is powering us even during these short winter days. I have more kitchen cupboards than ever before, plus a dishwasher! I have hung up my clothes in a full wardrobe for the first time in nearly four years. The boys each have clean new wardrobes. Their separate rooms are still being built so they are in what will be our room which is insulated and wall paneled. We can cope with an outside shower and toilet. My husband is a legend.
What’s it like actually being back? I confess I was nervous about my own and the boys emotions. Eldest son is extremely happy to be back. Youngest son has taken time to adjust but that has more been due to his fear of the dark. The noises of the bush are unfamiliar and there are no streetlights out here! There has only been one time where a prebushfire memory overwhelmed me. Every person’s bushfire experience and recovery is unique. Unlike many others we are fortunate have the opportunity to not have to build on the exact footprint of the old place and I think this is psychologically helpful. It’s not the same space, and with some trees dead and gone the landscape is altered, its a slightly different perspective. The boys are older now, so our lifestyle is different too. Slowly we are finding a new rhythm on our land. The boys are absolutely loving being back on their bikes on bush tracks.
I was excited to resume my morning walks, although maybe not as excited the dog! He’s happy to have his off-lead roam again. But the first week of walking I found tough, the burnt and recovering state forest I traverse didn’t bring me the joy it used to. In the heavily logged areas where only isolated saplings were left unlogged, they couldn’t survive the heat of the fire or they didn’t have community trees to share nutrients through their roots to support recovery. The undergrowth is now the canopy and is booming with all the extra sunlight but when I look at it, all I see is fire hazard. Then as the weeks went by, my view softened, I recognise the bush is healing like me. I am appreciating small wonders of nature. A spider’s web highlighted with morning dew or the fascination of new plants thriving. There are trees that have fully recovered, others seem to be doing well, and there is much green in the landscape to enjoy.
On my morning walk I also see which animals are about in the night from what they leave behind. There is at least one very busy wombat! We see wallabies reasonably often and last week one morning I found big roo prints in the clay right near our place. We hear a boobook owl calling most nights and more frogs chirping croaking from the gully than I ever remember. Which now makes sense, we definitely were in drought for some years prior to the fires and the creek has this year been running for months. Less exciting is hearing foxes at night, my son especially dislikes their eerie calls. In daytime the bird life is altered. We are down to one lyrebird, there used to be two with adjacent territories battling loudly with their extraordinary mimicry. But at least there is one, how a ground bird survived I can’t imagine. The yellow robins aren’t around us now, we have wrens in the cleared spaces and in the lush shrubs busy brown gerygones dart and chirp. A shrike thrush has made a nest in our bushfire remains pile, her song is piercing and wonderful. Rarely are the yellow crested black cockatoos here now. This past weekend we did see two circling wedge tailed eagles the silent assassins of the sky wheeling high over the gully with that phenomenal wingspan.
Surprisingly my greatest source of happiness in these first few months being back has come from the sky. Unobstructed by buildings, the sky feels bigger in the bush. I’m loving the late winter sunrises. My very favourite time is just after the sun has risen when the horizontal sun rays set tops of the trees bright orange. Those are magical minutes of golden tinged trees. The sunsets. The stars. The moon. the sky has been a revelation and a source of happiness. Maybe because I’m spending more time outside I notice it more. Seeing glittering stars through the steam of a hot outdoor shower makes the cold walk inside completely worth it!
Slowly I am regaining my sense of gratitude for this place. The quiet. The privilege of not seeing another house. Having no curtains and that not mattering. Not worrying about noise and neighbours. Lack of street lights at night.
All of a sudden things aren’t hectic and we are settling in. It still amazes me after 6 moves in 5 years how intense moving is and then how imperceptibly things transition to not being new anymore. Normalcy sneaks up on me every time. Clearly this isn’t really normal but we’re enjoying this new start in our old place.

It wasn’t long after Alex and Forrest shared their first kiss at The Pony, in front of everyone, they started to share other firsts with each other. Alex had been struggling with himself. He needed time to adjust to his well-deserved freedom as a gay man, out and proud. Alex was still taking things slow, but Forrest was a patient soul. He never forced himself on Alex, and gave him space when needed.
“You don’t have to go through this alone. If you want me to, I will be there every step of the way.” He once said, while he stirred his milkshake around absentmindedly, not taking his eyes off of Alex. Alex had appreciated it. Dealing with the death of his father, his abuser, at the same time as he was trying to get through to Flint, was a challenge. But Forrest had been there for him, and they had shared stories back and forth about family drama, military stories, early childhood memories, musical similarities, high school angst and of course, past lovers.
“So, you and Michael Guerin are like high school sweethearts then? Kinda figured there was something there.” Forrest had said once.
Forrest had a soft look on his face as he looked at one of the photographs Alex had handed to him from a book in his shelf. There were several photos. Some of Alex and his brothers, others with him and his friends. One of them was of him and Michael.
“You guys looked so happy…” Alex raised his brows and laughed slightly before shaking his head. He stared at the photo for another minute before placing it back into the book, and down into the box he was packing up.
“Yeah, I suppose. At the time anyway… Those teenagers in that photo, were naïve and reckless, living in a fantasy bubble, shielded away from reality. Now, I don’t ever want to hide in that bubble ever again. ” He replied and taped the box shut before facing Forrest, giving him a warm smile.
Alex and Forrest shared their first milkshake at the Crashdown only a week after their first kiss. It wasn’t planned, but Forrest had accidentally ordered a large vanilla and chocolate-swirl with two straws and a cherry on top. He could have sworn he ordered just a simple chocolate-swirl, but Liz had glanced at their table once and already taken their order. Michael had been sitting at the counter, sipping to a coffee that was slowly turning cold. He had forgotten all about it because he had been too busy staring at the two men sharing a milkshake and giggling about it.
A month later, Alex had been upset and struggling with nightmares. The weather had been gloomy, and soon after, it was pouring down. Forrest had arrived at Alex’s place at around 9 pm, soaking wet from the rain, and a box of Chinese in his hands.
“You’re soaked. You can borrow some of my clothes.” Alex had offered and headed to his bedroom to retrieve said clothes. When he walked back out into his living room, he stopped abruptly in his tracks, mouth slightly open. Forrest was standing by the couch, shirtless and hair still dripping wet. The droplets fell from his hair and traveled down his neck, down his chest and down towards his sculpted abs. Their eyes met and it was a losing game for both of them. They lost track of time from the moment their lips collided and their clothes found their way to the floor. Both nervous, but burning with desire for one another.
“Are you sure?” Forrest had asked, staring deeply into Alex’s warm eyes. They were both breathing heavily already and hearts beating faster. Alex wrapped himself around Forrest, feeling his warm skin on his, feeling his heart beating atop of his.
“Yes, Forrest. I want you… I need you.” Alex said, almost pleaded. He was ready, and he wanted this. He wanted to take it a step further with Forrest, and he wanted him. Needless to say, as the two men explored new and vulnerable parts of themselves, the Chinese takeout was long forgotten.
As time passed by, they only seemed to get closer and closer. One evening, Forrest had invited Alex to a fancy restaurant to celebrate their three-month anniversary. Alex felt spoiled, and had insisted on paying for his part.
“It’s a gift, so please, accept it and let me treat you, for once.” It wasn’t up for debate, and so Forrest winked at him, and took the check. Alex still felt guilty. He wasn’t used to getting spoiled, or getting sweet goodnight-texts. He also wasn’t used to having someone to write songs with, or getting songs or poetry written about him. He wasn’t used to shoulder massages after a stressful day or falling asleep in someone’s arms while watching movies. There was a lot of new things to get used to, but it was definitely something he could get used to.
A solid half a year had passed, and their relationship was only growing stronger. They were practically inseparable at this point, but not entirely. There were days when they would go to the farmers market together, with Buffy happily shuffling along in tow, and they would bicker about which vegetables were the cheapest or what would be more practical, writing your shopping list on a note or on your phone.
“Obviously it’s more practical to write it down on your phone. It’s much faster.” Alex argued while checking if the salad was fresh before putting it in the cart.
“How is it so much faster? You write down your stuff, and you can add things later on as you remember more things to buy. It’s way more personal and you have easy access to the note as you’re walking through the store.” Forrest tried reasoning with him, while holding up his crumpled piece of paper as proof. Alex just rolled his eyes while trying to hide his amusement.
“It’s the exact same with a phone. Also, it doesn’t blow away with the wind.” Alex quickly gripped the piece of paper out of Forrest’s hand, held it up to his mouth and blew the paper at his face.
“That’s cheating, you-“ Forrest was about to reach for Alex’s phone, where he proudly displayed his shopping list, when someone cleared their throat and spoke.
“Is the honeymoon phase over already boys?” Isobel had her arms crossed and smirked at them. Beside her, Michael rolled his eyes and tipped his hat further down his face. Alex pretended he didn’t notice and just laughed along with Isobel. Michael now regretted letting Isobel talk him into leaving the junkyard for once.
It was little things like this that made it into their routine. Grocery shopping, taking Buffy on walks, milkshake at the Crashdown, movie nights with too much popcorn, watching the sun set over the desert landscape, wild nights at Planet 7 and open-mic evenings at The Wild Pony. A year had passed and Alex still found himself amazed and in awe each time he woke up next to Forrest. He almost couldn’t believe that he was allowed to be this lucky.
To celebrate their one-year anniversary, they decided to have a few drinks at The Pony. Throughout the night, they laughed and reminisced back to when they first met in the barn at the Long farm, and when Forrest totally kicked his ass in paintball.
“You totally watched 10 reasons why I hate you before that date, am I right?” Alex smirked at him. Forrest playfully nudged him while trying to hide his flushed cheeks.
“What can I say, I’m a sucker for the classics.” He replied.
The hours seemed to pass by too fast, and soon they were dancing in the middle of the crowd, singing and laughing along to the music.
Not long after Forrest had excused himself to go to the restroom, Michael found himself seated next to Alex by the bar. He had placed his hat down between them and ordered another drink. Michael had watched Alex and Forrest have a good time all evening, and maybe it was the alcohol talking, but he needed to try one last time with Alex.
“You know you’re lying to him, right?” Michael said quietly while staring into his drink. Alex furrowed his brows and turned to face him.
“What?”
“He still doesn’t know about me, does he?” Alex just stared at him with confusion written all over his face.
“Of course he does. I’ve told him everything about us, and what we used to have.” Alex replied, but Michael shook his head and took a deep breath.
“I mean, he doesn’t know what I am?” Michael asked and tilted his head slightly. Alex glared at him, not knowing what to answer.
“I made you a promise once, to keep you and your family safe.” Alex began, but was interrupted by Michael’s scoff.
“Oh, so you don’t trust your partner to keep that secret safe. I bet it would be a whole lot easier to go on with your life not having to sneak around and lie about your confidential alien research.”
“Michael!” Isobel’s voice was harsh and disappointment was painted all over her face. Alex was pale and his fists clenched. He had to find and grip onto every shred of willpower in order not to punch Michael in the face.
After that encounter, Alex had slowly but, surely let Forrest in on some of the stuff going on in Roswell. To his surprise, Forrest had his own suspicions about aliens. He was a historian and a Long after all.
“Do you think you’ll miss this place?” Forrest asked. He had his arm around Alex’s shoulder as they stared around his empty apartment. Alex shrugged slightly and rested his head against Forrest.
“Not really. I don’t have anything attaching me to this place. It just became a hideaway. I’m ready to start over, but this time, I got you by my side.” Alex said and looked up at Forrest, who smiled at stared back at him with so much passion and love written in his eyes.
They finished packing up, picked up Buffy and got into the car. With one last glance at his house, Alex smiled back at Forrest and they drove off, on their way to their new home far away from Roswell.

Enemies Of The State : Dark!Klaroline {4}
summary:
This fiction follows the events of just how Klaus Mikaelson and Caroline Forbes lost everything that tied them to their humanity, leading them into something neither of them can come back from.
———————
{10 years ago}
She was bloody. Sweet, red ecstasy dripping from her mouth as her fangs protruded, swiftly sinking them into another helpless victim once more. She felt nothing but satisfaction as it ran down her throat, hungry for more. Humanity was nowhere to be found. He stood beside his queen, proud as she cracked her victim’s neck, staring at her with love and lust. He was always insatiable for power as they made it rain blood. He kissed her bloodstained lips when she looked at him, whispering with a deathly tone “It’s you and me, my sweet Caroline. You and me ruling the world forever,”
Caroline suddenly woke up with a jolt, heavily breathing.
“What was that,” She whispered to herself, trying to wrap her head around what had just happened. That was the first time she dreamt of him. It was also the first time she’d dreamt of her bloodlust.
The events of yesterday rushed into her mind quickly. The phone call with Klaus, Rebekah’s house...how she threatened Damon so much he fled her house in an instant. Caroline shivered as the memory of her actions came to her. It confused her. Caroline figured out she liked what she did to Damon, and it terrified her. This wasn’t her. She was good. Sweet, bubbly Caroline who needed to be good.
Yes, she needed to be good. But what did she want to be?
Caroline shook her head, trying to get rid of these thoughts. Get yourself together she thought as she got up from her bed. Looking outside her window drearily, the heavy rain matched her mood perfectly. School was the last thing on her mind, and it was Monday. Caroline only wanted to remain in her room after yesterday, and she felt as though she deserved a break from the hysteria that was surrounding her constantly.
What she did want was blood, and even then she felt irked to go near it after her dream. When did life become so difficult?
The door to her room opened as Caroline was about to get something to eat. Her mother looked tired, leaning against the doorframe “Hey, honey”
“Long shift at the office last night?” Caroline gave Liz a weary smile, to which she returned. “We were working on a case late, animal attack”
“It was probably Stefan,” Caroline joked. Liz raised an eyebrow. She forgot how her mother didn’t find vampire jokes funny, trying to change the topic quickly.
“So, what’s up?”
“I wanted to tell you Elena called. It seemed urgent so you might wanna call her back,” Liz said as she backed out of the room. Caroline groaned. She did not want to meet her friends today, not after being emotionally and physically drained yesterday.
She quickly makes her way to her phone, turning it back on to find Elena had given her four missed calls. She couldn’t help but feel annoyed, Elena had probably gotten herself into another vampire mess and needed help. Hastily pressing down on the contact, she brought it up to her ears. Elena answered immediately.
“I’ve been trying you all morning, Caroline” Elena said sharply. She simply rolled her eyes, falling back on her bed.
“Sorry, I just woke up”
Elena breathed heavily through the phone. “Can you come around in a few hours?”
“I’m not feeling great today” She groans, hoping her friend would say that they could meet some any time other than today.
“It’s important, Caroline” Elena said with seriousness. She knew she couldn’t get out of it at this point, hesitantly telling the doppelgänger that she’d be there before hanging up.
Caroline sighed, running her fingers through her blonde locks in thought of what Elena could’ve gotten herself into that she needed her. I really cannot catch a break, can I? Maybe she should just disappear. She’d never been to Paris before. Her mind immediately drifted off to the night of the Mikaelson ball when Klaus showed her his paintings. I’ll take you. Wherever you want. Rome, Paris...Tokyo?
Caroline felt a deep pang in her chest. It was as though every memory she had of him hurt her just as much as his call did. They were nice ones, her favourite being the time he stole her Miss Mystic application. She smiled faintly, that being the start of when she slowly fell for him.
Caroline shook her head. That phone call was the last she’d ever hear from him. She repeated herself this often when she started to miss him a little too much. It was times like these when she wished she was human, missing not feeling such emotions at a heightened degree.
“Well this is quite depressing to watch,”
Rebekah Mikaelson stood in Caroline’s room with a bored look on her face. The young vampire jumped at the intrusion, groaning when she found the Original leaning against her bedroom wall.
“Has nobody told you to knock?,” Caroline hisses. Rebekah shrugged nonchalantly, pulling herself off as she looked around her room. “I like your room. Very human.”
“Can you tell me what you could possibly want at ten in the morning?,” She got straight to the point. Dealing with Rebekah was the last thing she needed right now.
“I wanted to ask you about your rather alarming visit yesterday, but it seems by your attitude you’ve already dealt with your issues with my brother”
“Not that it’s any of your business,” Caroline said sharply “But I’ve handled it”
“So you do have a thing for him,” Rebekah chuckled. “I didnt know you liked sociopaths, Caroline”
“Kindly get out if there’s nothing else you want to talk about” She angrily diverted the conversation. If she wanted Klaus out of her life for good, she needed to avoid his family members, including his bitchy sister.
“You should be nicer to me,” Rebekah said sharply “I even delivered your little message this morning”
“That wasn’t necessary-”
“I’m sure he won’t be a bother to you or your little group anymore,” Rebekah hastily cut her off. Caroline felt her face drop. She wanted him to not be a bother, right? She wasn’t the best at knowing what she wanted, even as a human. Rebekah noticed Caroline’s sudden expression change, rolling her eyes as she sat down on her unmade bed.
“Nik only cares about himself,” She tried explaining. “He’ll break you. Tear you apart. I think the only person who’d be suitable for him is someone without humanity”
Humanity.
Caroline often thought about turning it all off sometimes. More times than usual following the events of the day before. She wanted to when she broke down in the middle of the street, when her father died....when she liked the power she felt attacking Damon. She’d never done it before, which had made it all the more tempting. Especially since the predatory nature she bore was coming out of her more than usual.
“Humanity is a vampire’s greatest weakness,” Caroline murmured to herself. Klaus had said that once, whispering it in her ear on the front porch when he had shown Tyler mercy. She inwardly smiled at the thought.
“Right well i’m going to school,” Rebekah got up, flipping her blonde hair over her shoulder. “I have a dance to plan. You coming?”
“I’m skipping, actually”
“You really are changing,” The Original scoffed as she made her way out of the bedroom. Caroline fell back on her bed in exasperation. Even Rebekah saw it, and she wasn’t surprised in the slightest.
She spent the next few hours by taking a shower and snacking on blood bags. She even took out one of her favourite things she’d ever received, the drawing that Klaus had left on her bed. Thank you for your honesty, written on the bottom right corner on the parchment in his neat handwriting. Her heart clenched. No, she wouldn’t ever throw it away. Not this.
Her phone rang a few minutes later, Elena’s name shone on the screen like it was taunting her in some way. She put down the drawing beside her, hastily picking up her phone. “Elena, i’m coming okay?”
“Everyone’s just waiting for you Caroline. I told you to be here in a few hours?” Elena heavily sighs on the other end. Why would all of her friends be waiting on her? They usually pay no mind and start talking about whatever trouble they’ve gotten themselves in without her. She wasn’t important in any means.
“I’m on my way,” Caroline says before cutting the call, but as she reached for her purse, the drawing caught her eye. Caroline was paranoid, and she knew Liz snooped in her room sometimes. Her drawer didn’t have a lock on it either. Hesitantly, she carefully placed the parchment into one of the pockets of her purse. It was small, nobody would know unless they looked into it.
At least you haven’t changed being paranoid as hell. Pulling on her shoes hastily, she walks out the door eager to get Elena’s thing done with so she could go back to being invisible.
She reaches Elena’s house in a few minutes, standing outside on the porch as she peers into the window that looked into the living room. Her friends were all there, including Damon. She felt anxious, gathering her will to knock on the door.
Elena immediately opens up, her face sullen and serious, she doesn’t greet the vampire as she simply steps aside. Caroline walks in confused. Her friend had never acted so deviant towards her before, and it was for this reason her nerves went through the roof. Surely it wasn’t because of her, right?
She began questioning this when Bonnie, Matt and Stefan all stood next to the fireplace, a serious expression painted on their faces when she reached the living room. Damon Salvatore gave Caroline a glare as hostile as ever. Her anxiety was heightened at this point, dreading what she knew was inevitable, yet holding on to hope that it was not what she thought.
“So, what’s this about?” She asked tiredly, not knowing the storm that was about to happen shortly after. Elena calmy walked towards the blonde vampire, arms crossed.
“We know, Caroline”
She froze instantly. No.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about, Elena”
“Seriously?” Elena says with a raised voice “Damon told us everything. There’s no point in denying it”
They weren’t supposed to know. They were never supposed to know.
“What exactly do you think I did?” Caroline asked, her voice wavering.
“Let’s start with how you went all Barbie Klaus on me,” Damon spat out, referencing his name on purpose. She could see it in his eyes. He longed to call her out. She stiffened.
“Because you threatened me! You followed me around and had the nerve to show up thinking you could mess with my head-”
“Wait,” Stefan interrupted in the middle of her sentence “ What exactly did he threaten you with Caroline?”
Damon smirked with a merciless look in his eyes. The same look he gave Caroline the day before. The one that said got you. She quickly figured it out. Damon hadn’t told them about Klaus. Damon was waiting on her so he could tell the truth in front of everyone, making her suffer just as she wanted him to.
“Well that’s the fun part of this whole thing,” Damon clapped his hands tauntingly, turning his amused gaze towards Caroline. “Should I tell them or should you?”
She felt her heart in her throat, wordlessly pleading him not to as she remained still, knowing what was inevitably coming. “Blondie has been lying to you all,”
“Damon. Please,” Caroline’s voice cracked weakly. She couldn’t move. The older Salvatore brother merely gave her a sadistic look.
“What is he talking about?” Elena asked sharply. The air was thick with tension as her friends waited impatiently for some clarification. Caroline felt faint, wishing she could disappear in the moment more than ever. This wasn’t supposed to happen. She was supposed to forget about him, without letting the people she cared about know her betrayals against them. The room felt at a loss for words with the next that followed.
“Caroline,” Damon spat out mercilessly “Is in love with Klaus Mikaelson.”
—————
There was a storm going on when Klaus went over to the cemetery in order to finish what the Deveraux witch had started once and for all.
It all looked very diabolical when the lightening cracked above, the rain heavy as Klaus took Sophie Deveraux roughly by the arm, dragging her towards the grave he had dug for her when he was done with the deed.
“You shouldn’t have meddled with my life Love,” Klaus spat out venomously as Sophie looked hopeless as ever dangling by his grip. “This is the fate my enemies meet, and it will now be your own.” Klaus swiftly pulled her up, his hand against her chest, ready to take her heart when Sophie weakly said her next words.
“You can’t stop what’s coming,”
Klaus narrowed his eyes at the witch, interested in what she had to say before he killed her, he roughly asked what she meant.
“I saw it,” Sophie meekly said “I saw what would happen if you lived another day. I couldn’t let that happen.”
“What did you see?,” He demanded sharply. Sophie looked terrified now, the type of look that he’d expected her to have when she was brought here to die. The witch looked as if a horrible memory came back to her.
“Your humanity, Klaus” She said shakily “It wasn’t there. T-The both of you are going to start something you can never come back from,”
“What do you mean the both of you?,” Klaus growled with impatience. “Answer me, you incessant witch!”
“I’d rather die than to live in the world you’ll soon create.” Sophie coughed, rain mixing with the blood staining her mouth as she whispered her last words.
“You can’t stop what’s coming.”
Klaus had enough at this point. The witch obviously wasn’t going to give up what she knew, and it was for this he ravenously plunged his hand in her chest.
Sophie Deveraux went wide eyed, blood filling her mouth as it dripped on her rain soaked clothing. Klaus left his hand against her rapidly beating heart, evidence that she was fighting for her life. He chuckled mercilessly wanting her to suffer before giving her the peace of death.
“You witches truly are the bane of my existence,” He said, shooting daggers with his eyes as the dying witch begged for him to end her suffering, choking on her blood. He finally complied, swiftly grabbing ahold of the organ as he ripped it out.
Sophie went limp with death in his hands. Klaus felt satisfaction as he roughly tossed her body in the shallow grave, along with her heart. However, he couldn’t help but feel conflicted with what little information he’d been given about his future. Perhaps she was just trying to antagonise him. Klaus scoffed, uncertain yet satisfied he dealt with the reason he came here for in the first place.
You can’t stop what’s coming. Your Humanity. It wasn’t there.
Klaus calmy walked away from the scene, wiping his bloody hands on his jeans as he thought about it. Yes, he knew things would escalate on another level with his humanity gone. He had never turned it off for this very reason. He had gone through horrific events, yet he kept it intact.
Caroline Forbes was one of the things that tethered him to his humanity, the reason he helped Katherine to live. Rebekah had surprisingly called him that morning, letting him know that she wanted nothing to do with him anymore. He expected it after the phone call, but it didn’t hurt less either.
He shivered thinking about what he would do if Elijah killed Caroline, had he not given a damn about his vain lover. His family was another aspect to his humanity, he loved them unconditionally, even though they were placed in a box for centuries on end.
Yes, Klaus knew the consequences if anything were to happen to either of the two, which is why he went to great lengths to protect them. The witch was right, but the future she’d told him was a future he would make sure would never happen if he had anything to do with it. The question remained on his mind, however.
Who was the other person?

Day 2317: Adventure!
So, I have to admit that I might have lied to you. Well, I definitely lied to you. And I can’t really give the story I’m about to tell justice without revealing it, so here we are. I actually have another tulpa called Fen, she’s very very shy (because apparently that’s a checkbox that every system has to fill), and because of this she didn’t really want me to talk about her on the blog so I’m going to skip over her as much as possible when I can. But in this one instance, I need to talk about her.
Fen is a selkie, which if you’re not aware is a type of creature from Scottish mythology that is a seal in the water but transforms into a human on land and carries their seal coats around. There’s more to those actual myths that I don’t particularly want to get into because there are definitely some dark themes there, but that’s the gist.
So, Fen obviously loves the ocean. And over the past 4 days, we have gone on a road trip with a friend around the northern coasts of Scotland, the North Coast 500 to be exact, so you can see where this links. There’s lots of ocean and plenty of pretty lochs along the way, and the north coast is also where the legends of selkies seem to originate.
Tumblr media
We started off from Inverness at 11am and immediately realised how many other tourists were coming along with us, despite our decision to do the 500 backwards in a hope to not get stuck in a convoy along the way. This was probably a stupid idea since it meant that we’d be going head-on with Germans and Italians in massive RV’s on single-track roads, as we’d find out on the second day. On the first night, we camped on the banks of Loch Brora, a little ways off the main 500 route, and managed to set up just in the treeline with a beautiful view of the loch. Of course, camping in the highlands near water is a bad idea because midges exist, but overall it wasn’t so bad. First night in a new tent wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be, to be honest, although it did rain rather heavily which woke us up.
Tumblr media
The second day was full of activity. We drove up to Wick, where Axelia and Faith decided that we needed an extra blanket in the tent, and so we bought a very very fluffy blanket from a B&M store. The next stop was Tesco to grab some snacks and hopefully a camping grill that worked properly (they didn’t sell any, and Argos was out of stock).
After the brief shopping trip, we headed up to John O’Groats to do the traditional tourist thing of taking a picture of the signpost at the most northerly point in mainland Britain. There was also a gift shop here, which sold all sorts of touristy crap about Scotland (which I don’t really need since I actually live here so I honestly just wanted to leave), and also some plushies. There was a plush seal, and Fen immediately latched onto it, so I had little choice. The label was a little faded but read £13.50 which wasn’t a bad price for touristy stuff, so I took it to the counter. The lady asked for £16.50 and, despite my irritation at being done out of £3, I paid without a fuss because I really couldn’t be bothered arguing. It was only when taking the label off in my tent that night that I realised the label had faded so much that it had originally read £18.50 and I had actually done her out of £2. Score.
Tumblr media
After staring across the sea to Orkney for a little while and being battered by the wind, the only way to head was west, towards Thurso and very little civilisation. When we arrived at Thurso we realised how wrong we were to call it “civilisation”, since it was the size of a small town and most of the shops had closed down. We just passed through without stopping. What followed was fields and more fields, most of which were in the rain while we were stuck behind a Dutch couple who were doing 60 through 40 zones and 40 through 60 zones. There was a fair amount of road rage. Eventually, though, the skies cleared and we found ourselves on the first real single-track road of the 500, battling oncoming RV’s and tractors. The views were beautiful, and to post all of the pictures that I took would be far too much, but at one point we entered out onto an entirely flat moorland with nothing in any direction aside from some mountains looming out of a distant rainstorm. Shortly after the flats turned back into winding mountain tracks and, as the sun dipped and we fought our way past 3 large farm vehicles (including a combine harvester, despite the fact that there was nowhere suitable for growing crops within a 50 mile radius, more like 100 if you take the windy roads into account), we came across our next campsite just before Durness. The site was filled with tourists, mostly Italian, but there was a Polish family and we had been stuck behind an Estonian RV for the past 10 miles who had also stopped. But despite the activity, it offered one of the best nights of sleep of our trip. The patch of ground was situated directly underneath the Golden Eagle zipline, which is apparently rather famous to tourists in the area. Having done very little research before embarking on our journey, this was news to us, but waking up in the morning to people screaming as they flew overhead was certainly an experience. But the most important part of the campsite to us was the fact that it had easy beach access and looked out over the north sea.
Tumblr media
Naturally, I had a wander along the beach as Fen enjoyed herself in the waves, and after a little while, as the sun set, I collapsed onto a sand dune and watched it go down.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, I was eaten alive by a cloud of midges shortly afterwards and retreated back to our campsite, but it was nice while it lasted. The next order of business was not a pleasant one, it had been roughly 100 miles of driving since there had been a public toilet and my stomach was making complaints. I waited until dark and squatted down behind a stone wall despite the threat of ticks. This proved to be a horrible decision. The next morning, we woke and I picked off around 7 ticks from my legs. To cut a long story short so that I don’t have to keep coming back to it, the following night there were 5 more, and when I got back home last night there were at least 10 others I found. Moral of the story is: Don’t ignore the threat of ticks and find a decent place to poop. We packed up our stuff and were gone by 11am, the sun shining beautifully. There isn’t a whole lot to say about the day aside from that it was a day of worrying single-track roads, 25% gradients, and beautiful landscapes. The few villages that we passed through were barely more than a handful of houses and a general store, although just down the road from the campsite was a wonderful little public toilet. Typical. Towards the evening the sunshine turned to beating rain as we passed Ullapool, and we desperately looked for another place to set up camp. The spot we found was at the bottom of a glen, under some pine trees, sandwiched between a river and the road. We set up camp and after a quick meal of undercooked burgers and pot noodles, we went to bed. The night was by far the worst I have had in years, the rain wouldn’t stop beating against the tent and, being at the bottom of a glen, the wind sounded like a jet engine through the trees, and our little tent was shaking violently. Luckily, I had a seal plush to cuddle and soak up heat, and a fluffy blanket beneath my sleeping bag, so at least I wasn’t freezing cold. At one point I heard a scream and, scrambling out of my tent to investigate, I found my friend also scrambling out of his tent wielding a knife as a bat had become pinned to the side of his tent by the excessively strong winds. We pulled it off and let it get on its way. The weather didn’t let up in the morning, and we were packed up and in the car within 5 minutes. In our desperation to get back on the road again, our friend managed to back into a tree and dent his bumper, but we ignored it and carried on.
Tumblr media
The plan for the day was to leave the 500 and gun it across to the Isle of Skye and visit the famous fairy pools, an old grudge from the last road trip to the western isles where we never made it, and then return home. A few miles drive away from where we had been camping, just before Torridon, there was a small village that I forget the name of that we stopped to grab breakfast in. It was a line of houses on the edge of a loch, and it was gorgeous. It was also at this point in the trip, as I paid for my sandwich in the village store, that I had to wonder why every young lady we came across in the middle of nowhere was very very pretty. What do the westerners know that we don’t?
The following drive was filled with chatter about what car we would need for the next road trip, and other things to prepare for the future. As we passed onto Skye, I found out that my phone also has a nice robot lady to give me directions when needed, and we proceeded to the fairy pools after a small detour to a very overpriced gift shop. We arrived at the pools at just gone 1pm and were not prepared for how busy they were. There were tourists everywhere, and after a reminder earlier on Skye about how dangerous the roads could be (two cars were on their rooves down a small drop and in a forest on the side of the road) we were very nervous. Despite this, we arrived in one piece and were directed to a parking spot by a very nice man in a high-vis jacket, something that we didn’t expect in the middle of absolutely nowhere. Faith then got very overexcited with pictures.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I got a few nervous looks from tourists due to the fact that I was wearing full military gear that I had bought from surplus stores, which was nice because they got out of our way. Especially useful since parts of the path along the pools include crossings over rivers, and many of the tourists were pausing and scared to cross, whereas my friend and I just casually wandered across due to years of having to deal with this country’s shit. Mildly amusing. Once we had taken in the sights for an hour and a half, we piled back in the car and started the 200-mile drive home, which we managed to do in almost one trip. Last night I got home, unpacked my stuff, had a shower, and collapsed on my bed. I love camping and adventure, but nothing beats home. Fen misses the coast, but we have beaches near us too on the Moray Firth, ones with seals that show up more reliably. Still, one day I would love a house on the west coast, and probably a Land Rover Defender to go with it. That way we can get pretty views and visit the beaches all the time, and can drive reliably towards civilisation when needed. Thanks, Guys.

Tumblr media
(I do not own this gif, credits to crescentmoonlikeyoungjae)
Christmas season has been one of your favorites since you were little. The Christmas lights all over the city were just so stunning, stores playing Christmas’ carols, even the guys dressed as Santa Claus made you very happy, but this year was very different. Suddenly, your father got transferred to Korea because of his job and your whole family had to move too.
The past few days were tiring; unpacking things from here and there, putting everything on shelves, drawers, etc. It was just too much for you but the fact that you didn’t know anyone in the city made you stay at home.
“You’ve been doing this since we arrived here. Don’t you want to go out and explore the city?” asked your mom, standing under the door with arms crossed.
“Well, I really do not feel in the mood for exploring anything you know?” you shrugged your shoulders and put another t-shit in the drawer.
“You need to go out and get fresh air, why don’t you go and buy some groceries for me?” she held out a few bills.
You nodded, she would make you go anyways.
~ ~ ~
Not so far away, Youngjae was also unpacking. After a great month of vacations, he had to come back to the real world. Not like he didn’t like his job, but vacations were simply amazing.
“I don’t know why your flipflops were in my luggage but here they are.” said Jackson, throwing them to Youngjae.
“Oh, I thought I had lost them.” He smiled brightly, catching them in the air.
Few hours later they were both sleeping. It was a tiring flight and they had no more energy. It was about four in the morning when Youngjae woke up breathing heavily.
“Yah! Is everything okay?” Jackson asked from the other side of the room. “Did you had a nightmare? Why are you crying?”
Youngjae frowned and touched his face, in fact there were some tears falling down his cheeks. Was this because of the girl in his dreams? I mean, he saw her getting ran over by a car but why it made him cry?
“I’m fine. Sorry for waking you up.”
~ ~ ~
“Mom! Did you see my book?” you shouted from your room. You were moving all you stuff but you couldn’t find it anywhere. It probably stayed in your hometown, great.
“Which one?”
“My Jane Eyre’s book dad gave me last Christmas. The one with the note inside the cover.” You moved other things from the shelf when a piece of paper fell.
You put all the things back to its place and bent down to take the paper. It was handwritten and it had some piano notes. You had been in Korea for a week but you already recognized the calligraphy used here so right away you knew it was Korean. Curiosity took over you so you took your phone and open the dictionary app. It was a little bit difficult transcribing the symbols written in the paper but you finally made it.
“Woah, this looks like a song” you mumbled, leaving your phone next to you. “But how did it…”
“Who are you talking to?”
“Me? Oh, no one, just… I’m crazy, you know” your mom laughed at the comment.
“We’re going out for dinner. We’ll be leaving in an hour. Please be ready.” You nodded, folding the paper you were holding in your hands.
~ ~ ~
“Hyung, is everything okay?” Yugyeom asked, giving him a bottle of water and sitting next to him. “You look very worried these days.”
Jackson sat next next to Youngjae too. “If anything is bothering you, you know you can tell us.” He patted Youngjae’s back.
“Well actually there is something that has been on my mind these days” he paused and took a deep breath. “I’ve been dreaming of a girl.”
“I don’t know if I want to listen.” Jackson joked.
“Remember that day I woke up in the middle of the night crying? Well I saw that girl in my dream, and I have dreamt of her so many times these days. I don’t who she is, I’m not even sure if I have seen her before but I’m sure I haven’t. She’s not Korean, though.”
“Maybe you have seen her at a concert or…”
“Maybe.” He said, but he knew it was not the case. He also omitted the fact that a book appeared in his luggage when he was unpacking. This was so weird.
Rehearsals were as tiring as always, the next comeback was going to be very soon so they needed to practice, record songs, do photoshoots and all those things that come with the comeback. Youngjae thought this could help him to distract himself of all the dreams he had had the past days but it didn’t happen. He really wanted to know who that girl was and he knew someone that might help him.
“Hyung, are you busy?” he knocked on Jinyoung’s door before stepping in. He shook his head. “Do you remember you told us about how you… how… well, you know… how you…” why was this so difficult to ask?
Jinyoung looked at him confused and then he noticed the book Youngjae was holding really tight. He frowned, it was weird seeing him reading, and apparently the book was in English. Was he taking language classes?
“Jane Eyre?” Jinyoung asked.
“Do you know the book?” he showed him the book. Jinyoung examined it.
“For my daughter, never stop dreaming everything is possible. Is this yours?” he looked at the guy still standing in front of him.
“Hyung, I think I found my soulmate.”
~ ~ ~
You were two days away from Christmas, the first one in another country, with no friends and no other family but your parents. It was sad but it also started to sound exciting. Maybe it was because of the holidays, but suddenly, you wanted to actually start living in Korea, get a job, make new friends, have a pet and why not, even have a boyfriend; if you were lucky enough.
Today you had nothing to do at home so you decided to go out and get some presents for your parents. Your mother loved cooking so you visited some cooking stores and got so many beautiful things for her. Your father was really into music, classic music to be honest, so you asked for music stores and after getting some help from strangers, you arrived to a beautiful store full of albums and instruments. It was just amazing.
There was a lot of people, maybe because everyone was looking for last minute Christmas’ presents, just like you. A really nice guy approached to you and help you to find the kind of albums you were looking for, he even recommended some. You thanked him and then looked around the store. You stopped when you saw a guy sitting in front of a piano.
“Woah, you play amazing.” You said, giving him a friendly smile, he smiled back. “Oh! I can see you understand English, can I ask you a favor?”
“Yes.”
“Er, could you play this for me? Here.” You handed him the piece of paper you found in your shelf.
He nodded and placed the piece of paper in front of him. When he started playing, a chill ran through your body, it was a very beautiful melody.
“Thank you so much! I know I’m being annoying but, could you translate this for me?” you pointed at the piece of paper in front of him.
“Well, it says something about finding your true love…most like waiting for it. Did you write it?”
“Oh no, I barely understand Korean” you giggled. “Thank you so much.”
~ ~ ~
“Hyung! That’s my song! I composed that!” Youngjae said grabbing Jinyoung’s arm and pulling him through the aisle.
“Did you write a new song?” he looked at Youngjae, eyes wide opened.
Youngjae walked through the store with Jinyoung following the sound of the melody. It was not a big store but there was a lot of people and you could barely walk in there. Between apologizes and shoving, he made it to the end of the aisle were the pianos were. There was a guy picking up a plastic bag.
“Hi, I’m sorry, but were you just playing?”
“Ah, yes.”
“Were did you learned that song you just played?” he asked.
“Well, a girl asked me to play it for her. She gave me a paper with the notes in it.”
Youngjae looked at Jinyoung.
“Where is she?”
“I don’t know, she left a few minutes ago.”
Jinyoung thanked him since Youngjae turned and walked to the entrance without saying a single word.
“Are you okay?” Jinyoung asked him, Youngjae nodded. “Just take it easy, you’ll meet her sooner or later. Why don’t you come to the book store with me? I need to get some new books.”
~ ~ ~
If you were getting Christmas gifts for your parents, why not getting a gift for you too? Thinking about what kind of gift would be perfect, was not difficult thanks to the book store at the end of the street. You went through the place looking for the English section, most of the books were in Korean because… well, you were in Korea. When you found them, you stayed there around 10 minutes trying to decide which book to buy.
When you finally picked a book, another one caught your attention. It was a copy of Jane Eyre with a hardcover and very lovely design. You tried to take it but unfortunately it was at the top of the shelf.
“Can I help?” asked someone behind you in korean.
“I’m so sorry, I don’t speak nor understand Korean.”
“Oh. You need help?” you nodded.
“The book at the top, the one with the black background and the red leaves, please.” The guy took the book and looked at it before giving it to you.
“Jane Eyre.” he paused. “Aigoo, are you…wait here please.”
You frowned and saw the guy get lost between the hall. Weird. You didn’t have any idea of what he said but soon he came back with another guy. You were absolutely confused right now.
“This is my friend Youngjae.” He said.
“Hmmm…hi” you greeted him, your greeting sounding more like a question.
“I think you have something that belongs to him and he might have something that is yours.”
“Excuse me?”
~ ~ ~
Now you were laying on the couch thinking about what happened today at the books store. You finally knew to whom the song belonged to and he had your book. Isn’t it weird? But the most unbelievable thing was the story about the soulmate. Do they really believe in such stories?
“Are you tired?” you sat properly and looked at your mom.
“Mom, how did you meet dad?”
~ ~ ~
So you were here, waiting for this stranger in a café, a very beautiful café to be honest.
You couldn’t believe this was actually happening. When you asked your mom about your dad, she started to talk about this soulmate stuff and how she found his agenda between her college books. Apparently, your dad had a bracelet your grandmother gave her when she turned fifteen. Amazing, totally amazing and unbelievable.
“You came.” His voice caught your attention. There he was, looking absolutely stunning in that light blue stripped shirt and blue jeans. You had to look to another direction and let out the air you were holding in. You were wondering if your mom felt the same when she first saw your father. Was this guy, Youngjae, feeling the same way right now?
He sat in front of you leaving your book on the table right next to the cup of coffee you ordered for him. It was probably cold by now.
You took out his song from your handbag. “I think this is yours.”
“Yes. Here’s your book.” He gave it to you. You opened it and saw the note at the back of the cover; yes, it was your book.
You didn’t say a single word for about 2 minutes.
“Youngaje,” you called him. “I don’t know how this soulmate thing works but I guess I’m yours too.” You said in a shy tone. I mean, not everyone goes around telling other people they belong to them, right?
“Well, such a beautiful Christmas present I got, huh?” he smiled.

UK Road Trip Week 5
Day 29:
Had a really easy morning and took our time leaving because we really wanted to savour having a bed and a room a bit longer before hitting the road again. Don’t get me wrong, we weren’t dreading getting back onto the road to continue our adventure, we just wanted to make sure we were fully charged up and ready to go. Before setting off we made sure to play with the host’s dogs some more. We stopped at Lidl for some snacks…that we really shouldn’t have bought in retrospect, we’ve been eating a lot of junk on this trip. We set off to Stirling from there. During the drive I noticed that I had a mosquito bite on my face, I had been so successful so far in avoiding those damn things but somehow it got my face and now I have a horribly itchy spot that looks like a pimple, it’s pretty annoying but oh well. We only really just quickly drove through Stirling which I thought wasn’t so bad, it was really crowded and raining, after all, we were able to get a good look at Stirling castle which was interesting. It was a very odd old looking castle. The walls were that of a regular castle but the actual building looks like an old manor of some sort. We drove straight to Loch Lomond after Stirling as per what we had originally planned but when we got there we realized that was kind of senseless and that it would make more sense to drive straight up to in Inverness so as to do the North Coast 500 road tour for the next 7 days and then just explore Loch Lomond on our way back down through Scotland. We drove through a pretty spectacular motorway on the A9 road to get up to Inverness which I recommend to anyone that wants to do a road tour of Scotland; such glorious sights, it was a stunning mountain and was very reminiscent of my home province of British Columbia, Canada. We were even lucky enough to see a rainbow going over the mountains. It made me wish that we could live in Scotland so that we could do this sort of drive on the regular. We chose to stop in a retail business park just outside of Inverness to relax and stretch our legs after having just done a 3.5-hour drive straight. Scotland really does seem much more laid back about things in general in comparison to England. For instance, if you’re in literally any place other than a big city in Scotland then pretty much every car park is free which is amazing when you want to just leave the car and go explore. We thought for sure that the car park at Loch Lomond National Park would cost money but nope, free. Another awesome thing about Scotland is that you can pitch up your tent almost anywhere in the wilderness as long as there are no cows or sheep around and not have to pay a thing. It can only be for a period of 2 or 3 days but that works just great for us since we won’t be in any one place for too long. There was a cinema in the retail business park showing any movie for £4.99 so since it was still only 8 and the movies were so cheap, we thought why not. We saw Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, which I recommend. Afterward, we drove to a lay by out near Loch Ness and parked up and pitched up with the rain coming down horribly.
Day 30:
Woke up to the bf wiping the windows, when you sleep in a car, a lot of condensation forms on the windows if you’ve had them closed all night. I had actually slept in till 9 which is unusual for having slept in the car. We had breakfast and organized the car and I decided to read the last couple of chapters of Harry Potter book 5 when suddenly the car made an alarming beeeeeep! The car battery had gone flat. We tried to flag a few cars down to help us jump-start the battery but then resigned to calling AA. The bf has a membership with them anyway but we figured it would take them a while to get there. While we waited for them to come we went down to the lakeside/lochside of Loch Ness to explore for a bit. It’s quite sad that Scotland has opened its country for people to camp anywhere they like and yet people still litter everywhere. On the lakeside/lochside we saw several littered disposable barbecues, a shopping bag, and a bucket. Well, we didn’t finish with the AA until about 1:30. From Loch Ness, we drove into Inverness to the tourist info centre to see if we could get a map of some sort. Once that was dealt with we began the drive of the North coast 500 but counter-clockwise, just because we felt that suited us more. There are so many small-town/villages along the route, it’s quite funny how small they are - we were able to drive-through some, in and out, in under a minute. We stopped at Dingwall and had some instant noodles for a late lunch. Through the course of this trip, I’ve gotten the bf to actually enjoy and crave instant noodles and afternoon tea (of course he still doesn’t like to drink tea). He used to always avoid noodles in a soup because he’s not much of a soup person but will now eat them with me so I feel quite happy about that. From Dingwall, we drove through Loch Fleet National nature reserve, past the gorgeous, tropical-looking beach of Embo by Carn Laith, a remnant of the iron age, and finally arrived in Helmsdale where we would pitch up at a high off lay by with a beautiful view of the sea for the night. We didn’t cover as much road as I thought we would but I feel pretty content with our 1st day of route 500 ….
Day 31:
Have you ever woken up randomly, early in the morning but then realized you were still really tired so you went back to sleep and told yourself that whatever you want to do can wait until later? That’s me every day recently but what’s unfortunate this time was when I woke up randomly I saw the sunrise peeking out through the window. I thought “Oh how pretty…I’m just gonna sleep in a bit more and watch it later”. Well, when I woke up later I realized what I had done and felt like crap especially since it was the last time we were going to be on the east coast and in such an opportune spot for a little while. That’s fine, I’ll make it my mission to wake up in a good spot for the sunrise soon enough, mark my words. Anyway, today we managed to cover a lot of ground although I didn’t feel like we did. That’s because although it’s a beautiful drive there are not many points of interest for us to stop at on the east side of the NC500. We left Helmsdale and drove to just outside of Lybster to a place called “Hill O’Many Stanes”, which is a historical landmark. Many hundreds or thousands of years ago, it is not for certain why but maybe 30 to 50 stones the size of footballs were planted on a Hill and dotted around in a circle. There are a few theories why like they were possibly put there as memorials of the dead. I don’t know what it is about the UK and their historical landmarks surrounding stones. First, there was Stonehenge in England, and now this and I’m sure there’s another landmark coming up on this trip to do with stones being erected on the ground. Actually, now that I think about it, there is a place similar to Stonehenge on the Isle of Portland, but it certainly isn’t as heavily regarded and I’m not sure if it has a name. After admiring these stones for a bit, we then parked up down the hill and made some coffee. We then drove to the Castle of Old Wick just outside of Wick, where we saw the spectacular view of a cliffside and a horrifyingly scary view of how far the sea was below and then we walked around and imagined what it would have been like back then for people to have built a castle on the edge of a cliff. From there, we drove to Duncansby Head and John O’Groats, the most northern tip of mainland UK. This is also a very small town but because of what it is known as it was very crowded with tourists from all over. It was pretty cool though because we could see some of the Orkney islands from there and to be honest, it looked mostly like it is farmland, barely inhabited. After a few obligatory photos, we set off to somewhere in between John O’Groats and Dunnet Bay, where we parked up at a nearby Tesco and had instant noodles for lunch while listening to the Abroad in Japan podcast. We then checked out Dunnet Bay, we fooled around a bit there, skipped stones in the water and just had a good time. I love beaches, especially deserted ones, they’re relaxing and even better when there is the view of mountains in the background. This was probably 1 of 3 beaches that we stopped throughout the day just to explore and walk around. I found a really pretty shell at one of them too. I think the other beaches we stopped at were Strathy Bay and Torrisdale Bay. From there we drove without stopping too long to Durness, where we parked up and made a sort of spaghetti soup for dinner. The drive there was - you know I’ve been saying it a lot, so from now on when I talk about something, you just gotta assume it’s pretty freakin awesome! We drove around lush valleys and lochs, it felt more like we were somewhere in Iceland or something. I honestly thoroughly recommend this drive to anyone and everyone to do in the future. This part of Scotland actually reminded me a lot of Canada as well,l which makes sense because an info sign along the route said that Scotland was its own island for a while and joined up with Wales and England about 430 million years ago but before then it is thought to have been a broken-off bit of land from North America! That’s definitely something. I’ll never forget this drive and I only hope some of the footage I have taken has captured even 10% of its beauty.
Day 32:
Soon after waking up and driving somewhere to freshen up, the bf and I both seemed to be craving chocolate and we were in luck because there happened to be a popular albeit expensive chocolate cafe nearby called “Cocoa Mountain”. The bf and I both ordered a large hot chocolate that was simply delectable and probably the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had. We accompanied our drinks with two treats; a chocolate fudgy brownie and a cheese and spring onion tart that were also very good. Once we were done savouring that little treat, we went to the heavily populated with tourists Smoo Cave. We had visited caves in Wales but this cave was huge! It really had a mysterious vibe to it and even had a waterfall in it. It was very cool and well worth a visit again, I just wish there weren’t so many people. Apparently, on good weather, they do inner cave tours on a boat, but after so much rainfall, the waterfall and stream were too strong to venture further in. Later on, we drove to Oldshoremore beach. We stopped a lot along the way for photos though. The NC 500 is very scenic drive and I wouldn’t mind driving it again but next time it will be when we’re sure the weather will be good and if and when we have a camper van. All the beaches along the route were just so beautiful and I loved stopping at them. We walked for a bit along the water but I accidentally stepped too close and got my boots soaked. My Salomons are supposed to be waterproof but I put them in the washing machine once and I forgot why but that may have damaged the integrity of the waterproof material. Anyway, we went back to the car park to clean my boots and apply more waterproof spray and then made instant noodles for lunch. From there we drove to two more viewpoints called the Assynt and Drumbeg viewpoints. They were similar in that they both had a view of lochs, mountains, and the surrounding small islands, but the atmosphere at them was different from one another. We had overcast at one and sunny skies at the other so that could have been part of it, but it was also the quality of nature. One was more lush and green than the other but they were still just as breathtakingly sunning. My blog entries come out after I’ve posted photos of the places we’ve been to on Instagram, so please do give those a look. On the way to our final nature stop of the day, we chanced upon a herd of Highland cows that were just gorgeous and there were two that were just pleasantly sitting right next to each other so I had to grab a photo of that. They were so lovely. Afterward, we drove to Clashnessie Falls which was a magnificently big waterfall, but because it had been raining in that area, the river leading up to it had overflowed its banks which made the path to it muddy and hard to walk in and since my boots were still drying I was walking in my sandals. We figured it was for the best to just admire it from afar, although it would have been an amazing shot up close. We ended the day by stopping in Ullapool where we would grab some reduced dinner from Tesco’s (wasn’t the best idea) and pitching up just outside of the town for the night.
Day 33:
Today we had a load of gorgeous and scenic stops and the weather was on our side for most of the day, yay! We started off our day by taking in the sights of the Loch Broom which the town of Ullapool was situated next to. It was a great way to start the day because you had the sun shining brightly and all these gorgeous mountains in the background. From Ullapool, we began the penultimate leg of the route. This route will probably take us 6 days although online they say it should take you anywhere from 7 to 10 days if you really want to explore and do a bunch of hikes and stay longer in some places. Some people even think doing it in 12 to 14 days is better, if you have the money and time to do all the islands off the mainland as optional detours of the route, but we neither have the time money nor the transport (this route would have been way better with a camper van or RV, but we only decided to do it last minute while doing our main road trip. As I said before, we had many stops today and took so many photos on our way to Kyle of Lochalsh, where we would be ending today’s leg. I can say for certain that this portion of the route is absolutely the most scenic but I probably also feel that way because it was sunny most of the day, albeit cold (too cold for August if you ask me, but we are up north). First, we stopped at the Corrieshalloch Gorge and national nature reserve. There was a very cool suspension bridge there, but the gorge was indeed pretty far down so my fear of heights was activated a bit. There we also had a view of lovely, big waterfalls called the Falls of Measach. I’m surprised at the number of tourist areas that are free, well actually pretty much all of the spots along this route have been free whereas in Vancouver you can be sure that you’d be charged an arm and a leg to enter them. After seeing the falls, we made some coffee and then set off. I felt like every couple of minutes we were stopping and getting out of the car. To be honest I felt a twinge of annoyance about it but couldn’t really complain because there were just that many gorgeous and breathtaking sights to behold whether it was the lochs or the mountains. I don’t know what to tell you. If you haven’t got time to do the whole 5 to 7 days of the route than just spare one day to drive the stretch from Ullapool the Kyle of Lochalsh and you won’t regret it. Especially on a sunny day. Of course, you’d need to get up to a Ullapool first… but seriously we stopped so many times that I’m not even sure where exactly we stopped because the whole stretch made our jaws drop. I mean the days leading up to today we also saw a lot of amazing sights on the NC500 so I’m not selling those short by any means but I guess even though the rain did give those views a cool atmosphere, I didn’t enjoy them as much I enjoyed the views today because we had the luck of having the sun on our side. After the gorge, the plan was to stop at Ardessie Falls, Mellon Udrigle, Fire more beach, Gairloch then Redpoint and then Sheildag and Torridon and finally end off in Kyle of Lochalsh because those were the tour suggestions that I found online but for the most part we made our own stops along the route and it was awesome. I mean we did drive-through most of them. We made a detour through Torridon village, then stopped at a viewpoint in Shieldag and had lunch but finally, after a very eventful day at so many sites we got dinner in Kyle of Lochalsh and found a lay by to pitch up for the night.
Day 34:
Today didn’t really go as planned. Overall this trip has had a bunch of highlights and I’m so thankful to the BF to have been able to do this. I’m also thankful to his friend T, and my friend V, for being able to make this trip great. This trip isn’t over yet with 10 more days to go, but it’s just a shame that ever since we left the South coast of England our days have been heavily influenced by the rain. Today is one of those days. It still turned out alright though and the bf and I had a laugh. So originally the plan was for us to take a detour from the NC500 and spend the day in the Isle of Skye. I had been really looking forward to this as I had heard many good things. But from the moment we woke up the winds were so strong and the sky was heavy with overcast. Very foreboding. Actually, it made me wish I was back in Cambridge, at home, enjoying the sunny weather. Nevertheless, we drove across the long bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh to the Isle of Skye and what awaited us there were torrential rain and heavy winds. Our first stop was supposed to be a place called “The Storr”. Which is a 674 m tall landslip with a rocky face on one side and a grassy slope on the other, it was supposed to be a very dramatic sight, but because of the low cloud and rain, you couldn’t see a thing. Didn’t stop a bunch of tourists from getting out and trying to take photos, but we carried on since we didn’t think it seemed worth getting wet for. After that, we drove by another tourist stop that I hadn’t accounted for, at a waterfall called Kealt Falls. We thought about carrying on but the bf though the weather might add some drama to the falls. Since I was the only one with boots on and what I thought was a decent rain jacket (it’s old and worn), I went off on my own to see if it was worth both of us getting out for. Big mistake. The rain and winds were cruel and it felt like I was being blown away. The view was pretty but not really worth getting thoroughly soaked for. I went back to the car and I was shivering and had a headache from the cold winds. I am glad I tried though because now I know that I don’t want to be out in that weather. We spent the rest of the day in the car which wasn’t so great for our legs. They were both swollen and achy by the end of it. At least I learned from this experience that I need a new rain jacket and should definitely buy some waterproof trousers. We didn’t stop anywhere else in Skye unfortunately so I would like to think I would go back one day. We drove to the northernmost part of the island and then all the way back down to Kyle of Lochalsh while enjoying the views of the dramatic weather over the dramatic mountains. On the drive back down to Kyle, we saw two beautifully pronounced rainbows that were really quite the sight. Once back, we got Chinese takeaway and then agreed to leave early and drive to the next village of Strathcarron and stay there for the night. Except that didn’t happen. The bf and I were so into our conversation about tons of random crap that I hadn’t been paying attention to the map and he missed the turnoff on the road. We were so deep in conversation and that an hour had passed and neither of us noticed! The drive was only supposed to take 30 minutes, I thought it felt like a long 30 minutes….xD we weren’t even at the end of the NC 500 route anymore. He had taken a southbound road that would still get us back to Inverness, but on a completely different route. It so wasn’t so bad though, we were essentially driving through Woodland forests that took us along the other side of Loch Ness that we were originally on before we started the NC500 route. This side had all the Loch Ness monster tourist stuff; I was wondering where they all were! Eventually, we got back to the same retail business park we had begun this mini-adventure, and then the bf got out to stretch his legs while I stayed inside to keep warm and write. By the time we found a layby we were both exhausted and ready to call it a day.
Day 35:
Had a day off from traveling today. We both needed it and our legs were swollen from spending all day the day before sitting in the car so we spent some time aimlessly walking through Inverness and playing pokemon go.

Kismet (Chapter 13): A BTS Jin imagines fanfic
Tumblr media
First ever fanfic. Contains fluff and some smut. Please read sequentially as it is a long story arc. Please provide feedback! My IG is btskismet.
She woke up ahead of him. She admired looking at his angelic, sleeping face. Relieved that he slept more soundly this time, she stood up to go to the window.
1317. Outside the window, Otaru was still experiencing grey clouds but the snow and rain stopped coming down. They didn’t get to eat the breakfast they had brought upstairs and the coffee was already cold. She called room service to request for a fresh pot of coffee and some hot chocolate. She was sure he would be very hungry once he wakes up.
Seokjin stirred in bed and reached out to the other side, which was empty. His left hand patted the bed and he murmured, “Eodiya?”, which meant where are you in Korean.
She smiled and didn’t reply. She sat down on the couch and waited for him to wake up. He should, it’s almost 130pm, she thought to herself. She watched him sit up and look around, his hair in shambles and sleepy face scanning the room.
She sometimes thought during mornings like these if he was used to not seeing clearly. She knew he didn’t like wearing his glasses that much and it made her wonder how bad his eyesight is. She knew how that was like - since she had progressive myopia ever since she was a kid, she understood how difficult it was to not have glasses on. Getting laser eye surgery when she became older really was a lifesaver.
Seokjin looked at her sleepily and said Hi. “Hey.”, she said and made a hand gesture that meant if he wanted to eat. He nodded yes and gave a thumbs up.
She stood up and went to him, held his head and kissed his forehead.

Suitengu Shrine was about 7 minutes away from Hotel Sonia by car. She was able to convince him to go there since the fishing trip was canceled and the fact they could go up the steep hill by car. Unfortunately, they couldn’t park near the steps themselves as the road started to become narrower. They still had to go up halfway through the steep hill from where they parked and then up the 100 steps to the top.
“Woh! So. many. steps!”, Seokjin said, heaving at the top of the last step. She was holding on to his hand and was behind him, breathing heavily as well.
“Are you ok?”, he asked but she started to laugh. “I think I underestimated the 100 steps!”, she said. He laughed loudly, sounding like a windshield wiper which is how his usual laugh really sounds, with her as they noticed that they were both sweating despite the cold weather.
She started to shush him as there were a few people present, looking at them. She wasn’t doing a very good job as he was still sniggering and she giggled at that as well.
He then immediately changed his facial expression into a serious one and looked at her pointedly. This made her laugh again and he started sniggering at her reaction.
She pulled him to the side near the garden of the shrine that had a view of the port so people could stop looking at them. The sea was dark blue and the view was as beautiful as the one in the Observation Deck but they saw more of the port with the boats, the buildings and even a cruise ship. More of Otaru’s establishments were seen from here and it was a sight worth going up a 100 steps for.
When they stopped laughing, they went to the shrine. She taught him how to pray properly at a Shinto shrine and he was surprised that you had to clap twice after saying your prayer.
“What did you pray for?”, he asked her, as they went to a bench near the garden. “To see you again after this trip.”, she said sadly. She knew they would be parting ways soon and it would be a miracle if they were to have a chance to be this way again.
Seokjin pulled her close and kissed her head. “Of course you will.”, he whispered.
They stayed there to eat the sandwiches they bought from a cafe as a snack. The sounds of birds from the dock could be heard as they enjoyed each other’s company.
~~~~~
Hotel Neuschloss is a beautiful hotel, situated on top of a cliff near the Otaru Observation deck. This was the hotel she originally wanted them to stay at so it would be interesting to see how the rooms were like. JHope and Taehyung were able to get a suite there and they were on their way to meet them.
She was nervous about meeting them. This wasn’t like the time she met Jimin and JK, when everything hasn’t started yet. She felt she would be scrutinized by these men who are very close to Seokjin, now that their relationship has gotten this far. Coupled with what Seokjin said about Taehyung, she felt like she wanted to run away.
He parked the car and saw the worried expression on her face. “Please don’t worry, Jagiya.”, he said, holding her hand and squeezing it tightly. “Haha, it feels like I’m going to meet your parents.”, she replied.
He chuckled and tightened his grip on her hand. “Remember, I’m their hyung so they should still respect that. Including you. You are a noona, so...” This response was met with another slap to his hand.
“You really like reminding me a lot about that fact, don’t you?”, she said as she was getting out of the car.
“That’s because I find older women sexy and you are MY sexy woman.”, he chided and took her hand as they went inside the hotel.
~~~~~
“Jinhyuuuuuuung!!!”, JHope shouted when he opened the door and gave Seokjin a big hug. “O, JHope!”, Seokjin said loudly while being hugged. JHope patted his back and had a big smile.
“Neoleul geuliwo!”, JHope said as he let them in. She and JHope locked eyes for a second and he smiled at her. “Hallo, I’m JHope. Nice to meet you.”, he said to her and shook her hand. She introduced herself to him, happy that JHope was in a very sunny disposition and was generally pleased to see her.
JHope and Seokjin started speaking in Korean and she could understand Seokjin’s responses as the translator did its work. He shared with JHope where they were staying, why they were in Otaru and mainly the commute to the city. Seokjin asked him where their manager was. He also asked where Taehyung was.
“Jagiya, do you want to drink something? JHope said they have some soda and beer in the fridge.”, Seokjin offered.
“Sure, I can get some. Do you both want anything?”, she asked.
She heard him ask JHope what he wanted. “We’ll both have cokes. Thanks, Jagiya.”
She went to the fridge in the room and took out three sodas. She could hear JHope excitedly talking to his hyung and Seokjin shared about the translator and the earpieces. It seems he was surprised that when Seokjin spoke to her in Korean and then she responded in English, they still both understood each other.
Seokjin handed the earpiece to JHope and he asked her if she could understand him in Korean. “Yes, I can understand you. This gadget is pretty neat, right?”, she replied. JHope said wohhhh and was pretty amazed.
She started having a conversation with JHope about who she is and where she’s from as well as how she got to meet Seokjin, Jimin and JK that night. She found JHope to be really funny and attentive. He admitted he was happy he didn’t need to adjust too much in speaking in English because he even studied a little on the plane just so they could talk.
“Ahhh, ya... I’m so relieved! I thought I was going to go through some test in English!”, he exclaimed.
The whole time they were talking, Seokjin sat beside her, laughing at their discussion and caressing her back.
Room service came and they had some japchae, bulgogi and steak. JHope was happily sharing so many things to her about Seokjin, the tour and what they were doing in SoKor while Seokjin was with her.
“Aigoo, it was sooo quiet at the dorm ‘cause Jin hyung was not around to ask us to clean up. Jimin missed him because no one was there to cook kimchi stew during our time off! So, we had to have deliveries of kimchi stew and chicken instead!”
She said aaaaww and looked at Seokjin. “Poor Jimin.”, she said but Seokjin scoffed and said in English: He is adult now.
She started to look around the room when Seokjin and JHope talked about the upcoming tour in Taiwan. She wondered where Taehyung was at as she was drinking her beer. Seokjin then motioned to give her a piece of steak which he cut up and JHope smiled at her when she ate it. She only realized how big the piece is when it was already inside her mouth.
“Whaaa, this is a big piece!”, she said in between bites and JHope laughed and translated her response to his hyung.
“Sorry, sorry!”, Seokjin looked at her worriedly and gave her a napkin. She started chuckling in between bites and waved it off. They all started laughing and it took them a minute to realize that Taehyung came into the room.
An awkward silence permeated the atmosphere. Seokjin stood up and hugged Taehyung. Taehyung was a little cold in his greeting towards him and he said a curt Hi to her when Seokjin introduced her to him.
She heard JHope ask Taehyung if he wanted some beer but he refused. Taehyung then went to the bedroom.
“Jagiya, excuse me, ok?”, Seokjin said in English and followed Taehyung.
JHope then asked her about what she did for a living and was interested to know that she teaches English to employees at a bank. He asked her about certain words and what they were in English. She also shared with him that she liked to play video games too and they started talking about Overwatch.
They could hear muffled voices in the bedroom and Seokjin’s voice was getting louder. JHope looked at the door and so did she. He took out the earpiece and gave it to her and went inside the bedroom.
She started to worry because she didn’t want to be a cause of fights for these brothers. She knew Taehyung wasn’t pleased to see her here and she was thinking if she should leave. But no, Seokjin will be upset with me if I do that. Don’t want to add fuel to fire.
After what seemed like more than 10 minutes, JHope went out. “Sorry...”, he said softly.
“Gwenchana...”, she said as she handed the earpiece to him.
“They are arguing but it’s ok now.”, he assured her. It was odd to see JHope sad. The first and only time she saw it was when he was crying when they received the 2018 MAMA Artist of the Year award.
“Should I leave? I can go, you know.”, she said to JHope.
“No, no, no! Jin hyung will fix this. Taehyung is just upset with him.”, JHope quickly responded.
“I know why, JHope. Seokjin told me.”, she said. JHope was surprised and asked a question that any sane person would ask her: “Are you ok with this?”
It took a while before she responded. Sure, it was difficult to wrap her head around it. I mean, were they really just brothers or was there more? Did Seokjin romantically get involved with him at some point? Is that why Taehyung was this way?
But she knew one thing: Seokjin loves her. She felt it deeply that he does.
“Yes.”, she said to JHope firmly.
JHope nodded and said: “You know, Jin hyung loves you. I’ve never seen him give up time for his work in the group and us ever. He constantly practices, takes care of us and cheers us on. Maybe his video games are the closest thing he would spend so much time on but he would do that on top of all the work he does and what he does for us. This is the first time I’ve seen him drop everything just to be with someone.”
She looked at JHope and he smiled. “Jin hyung loves you very much. I guarantee that.”
She smiled a sad smile and said: “I love him very much too.”
Seokjin stepped out of the bedroom and closed the door. She heard him and JHope talk about the plans for tomorrow. Then JHope handed the earpiece to him.
“Let’s go. We’ll have dinner and karaoke with them tomorrow night. It’s late too.”
“Are you sure you don’t want to stay here?”, she asked.
Seokjin looked at her with a weirded expression on his face. “Are you kidding? And leave you alone in our hotel room? You’ll feel cold. That won't do."
She said good night to JHope, who gave her a big hug. He also hugged Seokjin goodbye. “See you tomorrow!”, he said and closed the door.
~~~~~
She didn’t ask him about what happened so the drive back to Hotel Sonia was very quiet. When they got to their room, she sat down on the chair and started removing her accessories. He sat on the bed and started removing his jacket and shirt, his chest exposed for her to see. She looked at him in the mirror and wondered what happened but she was too scared to ask.
Their eyes met and Seokjin stood up. He walked to her and stood behind her chair. He caressed her face and hair with his hands, letting his fingers touch the softness of her skin, her neck and shoulders as he looked at her in the mirror. His fingers traced her lips softly which made her close her eyes. He let one of his middle fingers slowly go into her mouth and she slowly sucked it.
She opened her eyes when he drew his finger back and he lifted her face to look at him. “It’s you I love and want, ok? Believe that I need you.”, he whispered.
“I do believe you.”, she whispered back.
ITH Wolf Children AU of the AU: Ruben
Special request by @kikabennet as she got all into this AU version of my ITH Wolf Children AU where Ruben was involved in the plot somehow and it was a blast to write.
(Also if you haven’t already, I suggest reading the original fic I wrote first for some context if you want it)
Also quick heads up as ages are a bit different; Usnavi’s in his mid twenties and Sonny’s between 8-10
Enjoy!
Lightning flashed and thunder boomed in the night sky as rain poured down. Ruben’s sneakers were soaked as he ran through puddles of water and mud, not caring that his feet were starting to freeze from the late fall air. He shoved aside branches and leaves as he ran, not caring where he was going, as long as it was away. Away from that place, away from…him.
Ruben’s head pounded, his body begging him to stop and rest. He had been running a fever for about a week now. This storm was undoubtedly going to make it worse, but Ruben shockingly didn’t care.
Tears blurred his vision as the combined physical and mental pain currently flowing through him was almost too much to bear. He had finally escaped, only to wind up lost and alone in the mountains during a storm. Was it too much to ask to have some good luck for once?!
Ruben sucked in a breath as he felt his foot dip down and his ankle twist, sending him sprawling onto the muddy ground. Ruben coughed and groaned as he tried to get up, but just…couldn’t. He was too tired. Guess that was wishful thinking.
Ruben’s head lay heavily on the ground as he felt his body shut down. This was it; he was going to die alone and forgotten and without a body for anyone to find. No better than how Ian had described it.
Through his fading vision Ruben saw two gleaming eyes cutting through the darkness, staring at him. The eyes stared and slowly drew closer, revealing a snout and two pointy ears.
Darkness took him.
Sonny stared at the man that lay before him. He had never seen any other humans on this mountain alone. Usually it was just him, Usnavi, or his friends, no one else.
Sonny moved forward and nudged the man’s arm with his nose. He transformed back and poked him. “Um…hello?” He called. “Are you alive?” The man didn’t respond. Sonny got closer and his ears picked up a distinct thumping noise in his chest.
The man still didn’t move. He couldn’t just lie out here in the rain! He could get sick! And Sonny was already late getting home; Usnavi wasn’t going to be happy that he was out in the rain. But he was helping someone; Usnavi would understand.
Usnavi wrung his hands as he stood by the back door, waiting for Sonny. He had called him back a while ago, and shortly after the rain had started. It usually only took Sonny about ten minutes to come when he called up the mountain for him, but the deadline had already passed. He just hoped Sonny wasn’t stuck in the rain. His fears diminished the moment he saw the brown wolf emerging from the trees but didn’t notice he was walking backwards and a bit slower than usual.
Usnavi grabbed an umbrella and hurried out to him. “Sonny, for god sakes, you had me worried, do you know how…late…” Usnavi trailed off as he saw Sonny and what he was dragging. Sonny had the back of the figure’s shirt in his mouth and it was filthy from Sonny dragging him across the muddy ground.
“Sonny…” Usnavi said warningly, expecting the worst.
“I found him, Navi!” Sonny said. “He wasn’t moving but his heart is thumping and he was too heavy to pick up!” Usnavi would have deflated in relief, but there was still the matter of this guy being a complete stranger. Usnavi hadn’t seen this guy around the barrio or Sonny’s school, and there was also the matter of why he was in the mountains.
“Are we gonna help him, Navi?” Sonny asked. “He feels sick.”
“Sick?” Usnavi asked.
“His face was warm on my nose,” Sonny clarified.
Usnavi looked down at the man again, feeling guilt gnaw at him. “…Sonny hold my umbrella while I carry him.” Sonny obeyed, transforming back into a human and taking the umbrella. Usnavi got the man’s arm around his shoulder and wrapped his arm around his back.
Sonny held the umbrella as best he could as Usnavi hobbled into the house. Once they were inside, Sonny helped his cousin bring the man to their bathroom upstairs to clean him up.
“Where’s he gonna sleep?” Sonny asked. They didn’t have a guest room, only their separate rooms.
“Let’s have him sleep in your bed,” Usnavi said. “Then you can sleep with me.”
“Why my bed?” Sonny whined.
“Because your bed is too small to fit both of us and you know I can’t sleep on the couch,” Usnavi responded. That couch was murder on his back, and if he wanted to tend to the fields, he needed a real bed.
“Okay…” Sonny sighed with a small pout.
Warmth. Soft pillows. Blankets. He was definitely dead. Perhaps those eyes he saw belonged to Death itself, coming to take him. Now he didn’t want to open his eyes.
Ruben grimaced as light burned his eyelids, prodding him to wake up, so he reluctantly did so. He blinked at the ceiling above him and looked around. He tried to move his head, but that proved painful.
Wait…pain? So…he wasn’t dead? Then again, he doubted Heaven would look like a kid’s bedroom. Ruben blinked…what the fu-
“You ARE alive!”
Ruben sucked in a breath and flinched as a mop of curly hair over a pair of bright brown eyes peeked up at him from the side of his bed.
“You slept a long time!” The boy said. “I wish I could sleep that long!” The boy then blinked, “Oh! Navi told me to get him when you woke up!” The boy scampered out of the room and Ruben heard him calling for ‘Navi’. Where the hell was he?
A few moments later, the boy reentered the room, followed by a young man that bore a bit of a resemblance to him.
“Hey…” The man said, walking towards him, the boy bouncing excitedly behind him. “You feeling okay?”
“W…Where…?” Ruben croaked.
The man quickly moved to the bedside table where some medicine and a glass of water was waiting. “Here, this should help…” Ruben allowed the man to feed him the medicine and water. “You’re at our house; my cousin here found you in the mountains.” He gestured to the boy.
The boy climbed onto his bed, mindful of his cousin’s warning to be careful. “My name’s Sonny, what’s yours?” He asked. With the way he was on all fours and staring at him, Ruben could almost see him as a dog wagging his tail.
“R…Ruben…” He managed softly.
“Ruben,” Sonny repeated.
“Well, I’m Usnavi,” The man said. “You…think you can tell us why you were up in the mountains in the rain?”
If Ruben had more strength he probably would have flinched visibly. “I…I was…running…”
Sonny tilted his head, “Running from what?”
“I-I got lost,” Ruben suddenly blurted out, trying to drive the conversation away from his memories. “I didn’t realize how sick I was so…”
“Well, where did you come from?” Usnavi asked.
“Um…I lived in Philadelphia…”
“Lived?” Sonny asked, catching the past tense. He had just started learning it in school. “Do you not live there anymore?”
“N-No…” Ruben shivered. “S-Something…happened…”
“What happened?” Sonny pressed, moving closer.
“Something bad,” Ruben answered quickly.
“How bad?”
“Sonny,” Usnavi said sharply and the boy retreated, looking at him with surprised eyes from the tone. “If he doesn’t wanna tell us, he doesn’t have to.”
“Okay…”
Ruben deflated in relief as Sonny jumped off the bed. Hopefully this wouldn’t make him look too suspicious. “You feel up to eating anything?” Usnavi asked. “It’s almost lunchtime.”
“Lunchtime!” Sonny lit up, bouncing slightly. Ruben felt a smile at his face from the boy’s enthusiasm and slightly nodded.
“What are we having, Navi?” Sonny asked.
“I was thinking Abuela’s famous soup,” Usnavi answered.
“That…sounds nice…” Ruben responded.
“Soup it is,” Usnavi nodded. “Wanna help, Sonny?”
“Yeah!” The two walked out of the room. Ruben still didn’t know where he was but at this point, he was just focused on getting some decent food for a change.
Sonny watched Usnavi intently as he sliced the vegetables on the cutting board, making Usnavi snort softly. He had never seen Sonny look so intense when he was cooking before. Though he almost had a heart attack when Sonny reached for the knife. “Can I try?”
Usnavi sucked in a breath and quickly pulled it away from him, “Maybe when you’re older, mijo.”
“Aww,” Sonny pouted.
“Don’t make that face, knives can be dangerous,” Usnavi said sternly. “Remember what I said about sharp things?”
“They can cut you really bad like my claws,” Sonny droned.
“That’s right,” Usnavi went back to cutting. “And speaking of your claws-”
“I know I know, I won’t tell,” Sonny said, crossing his arms.
“Say your rhyme,” Usnavi said. Sonny turned away. “Say it,” Usnavi repeated firmly.
“I’m gonna be a little boy, all the way home,” Sonny muttered.
Usnavi sighed, “I know you know better than you did before, but you can still get excited around new people,” He said. “I just don’t want you to slip up by accident, okay?” He ruffled Sonny’s hair. “You know I trust you with our secret, right?”
Sonny’s foul mood seemed to fade, “Yeah…”
Usnavi smiled and went back to cooking. Ten minutes later he put the finishing touches on the soup. “Wanna bring Ruben his bowl?”
Sonny lit up as he expected. “Yeah!” He ran up as Usnavi filled a bowl with the soup. He carefully handed it to him.
“Now walk slowly,” Usnavi instructed. “And don’t slip on the stairs okay?” Sonny nodded, his face becoming determined. His young eyes stayed firmly on the bowl in his hands as he slowly walked out of the kitchen.
“Don’t trip!” Usnavi called after him. “Watch where you step!”
Sonny had never felt more determined in his life as he gazed at the bowl in his hands. He walked as expertly as he could, climbing the stairs one at a time and pausing in between each one. Abuela’s soup was special, not one drop was to be spilled.
Before he knew it, he had reached the top, the soup undisturbed. Sonny smiled but turned serious again; his mission wasn’t over yet. Sonny slowly walked down the hallway towards his room where Ruben was staying. Sonny liked Ruben; he had a talent for knowing who was good and who was bad, and Ruben was definitely good.
Sonny entered the room to see Ruben still lying on his back, staring at nothing, but he blinked and looked at Sonny once he stepped in.
“Does it smell good?” Sonny asked with a smile; Abuela’s soup had the best smell in the world, Ruben had to have smelled it.
“Yeah…it does…” Ruben said, a small smile coming to his face. Sonny put on his game face again and carefully walked towards the bed, glad that he had cleaned his room a few days ago. Ruben slowly sat up, wincing in pain, and Sonny carefully raised the bowl.
Ruben took it and Sonny sighed in relief. “I did it! I didn’t spill!”
Ruben snorted. “No you didn’t.”
Sonny nodded proudly and Ruben picked up the spoon that Usnavi had placed in the bowl prior. He picked up a good spoonful and blew on it before putting it in his mouth. Ruben lit up and he started eating more.
Sonny beamed at him but his smile faded as tears started to drip out of Ruben’s eyes. “What’s wrong?” He asked. “Do you not like it? Is it too hot?”
“No…” Ruben said, his voice cracking. “No…it’s amazing…”
“Then why are you sad?” Sonny asked.
Ruben let out a sob, “I-I’m not sad…I’m happy…” He said shakily. “I…I’ve never had a-anything like this before…”
Sonny slightly frowned in confusion and looked at the ground in thought when he gasped. “We should get crackers!”
Ruben blinked and sniffed, “Huh?”
“Crackers!” Sonny repeated. “Abuela’s soup is even better with crackers; that will make you feel better!”
“Um…okay…” Ruben responded. Sonny nodded and bolted from the room.
Usnavi looked up as Sonny ran in, having just put down bowls of soup for them. “Hey; did he like the soup?”
“I think so,” Sonny answered. “He started crying but said he was happy, and said he liked it.”
“Really…” Usnavi said.
“Yeah, so I wanna bring him some crackers to help him feel better!” Sonny said. “Abuela’s soup is even better with crackers!”
A smile came to Usnavi’s face, “That sounds like a good idea, mijo.” Sonny bounced eagerly as his cousin when to the pantry and pulled out the box of Salteen crackers.
The second Usnavi handed it to him, Sonny bolted back upstairs, no longer needing to worry about spilling anything. He ran back into Ruben’s room and climbed up onto his bed, catching Ruben by surprise as he was just finishing another spoonful.
“Here!” Sonny opened the box and pulled out a cracker. “You have to break it into little pieces, so they float!” Sonny broke the cracker and dropped the pieces into the bowl. “Now try!”
Ruben smiled at the boy’s enthusiasm and got another spoonful of soup, making sure to get a piece of cracker and ate it. Sonny leaned forward in excitement and Ruben’s smile remained. “That is really good.”
“See? I told you!” Sonny exclaimed. “Now do you feel better?”
Ruben gazed at the boy, a smile still on his face, “You know what…I do feel better now.” Sonny beamed happily.
Lightning flashed and thunder boomed outside as rain poured. In the summer, the storms were almost relentless. In Usnavi’s room, a decently large brown wolf slowly opened his eyes and raised his head, ears on alert. Whimpering could be heard from the other bedroom.
Quietly, Sonny got up from the crook of Usnavi’s arm and softly leapt off the bed, trotting down the hallway. A brown muzzle poked through the slightly ajar door of his bedroom that Ruben was currently occupying, and the sound became louder. Ruben tossed and turned under the covers, whimpering and whining in his sleep. He clawed at the blankets as sweat covered his face.
Sonny carefully crept over to the bed and leapt up by his feet. Whenever he was having a nightmare, cuddling always made the bad dreams go away. Sonny carefully moved up the bed and curled up next to Ruben, giving his hand a lick. Ruben didn’t wake up, but his hand seemed to find Sonny’s furry head.
Ruben seemed to slowly calm down as his hand felt Sonny’s wolf head and ears, petting and scratching them and Sonny slowly lowered his head to go back to sleep.
The next morning, Usnavi woke up to find his cousin not by his side. Weird; usually Sonny didn’t wake up until he did if he didn’t have school. Usnavi got up with a yawn and by instinct, went to Sonny’s room before remembering that Ruben was currently occupying it.
Usnavi peeked inside to make sure he was still there and he snapped awake at the sight. Sonny was lying next to Ruben. As a wolf.
Usnavi felt his pulse pick up in fear and he quickly and quietly tiptoed into the room. He carefully pulled Sonny out from under Ruben’s arm and hurried out of the bedroom easily.
Sonny blinked and yawned sleepily in his arms as Usnavi hurried downstairs. “What were you thinking?” He hissed.
“Huh?” Sonny yawned.
Usnavi stepped outside so his voice wouldn’t carry and put Sonny down in front of him on their porch. “I thought you promised me you wouldn’t tell Ruben our secret!” Usnavi admonished.
“I didn’t…” Sonny transformed back sleepily, rubbing his eyes. “He was having a bad dream…”
Usnavi blinked. “What?”
“He was having a bad dream,” Sonny repeated. “Cuddling always makes bad dreams go away so I wanted to help Ruben’s go away…”
Usnavi couldn’t help but sigh while his heart slightly swelled from the innocence in front of him. Sonny always seemed to bond quickly with people, even complete strangers. “Alright just…promise me you’ll be careful,” Usnavi said. “We don’t want to scare Ruben away.”
“I will,” Sonny said.
Ruben slowly opened his eyes to bright sunlight and the same room he was in yesterday. It wasn’t a dream. It was real. He was really alive and here, in this house. He heard the light pounding of little feet and Sonny entered the room.
“Morning!” The boy chirped, full of as much energy as ever.
Usnavi wasn’t far behind. “Hey,” He greeted. “Just checking in if you felt up to some breakfast.”
“Um…” Ruben felt much better than he did the day before; a bit dizzy still but not terribly. “Y-Yeah…I think so…”
Sonny lit up brightly and Usnavi nodded. “Alright; can you stand or should we bring it up here again?”
“I-I can stand…” Ruben said. “I think…” As if to prove it to himself, Ruben slowly swung his feet out from the covers and slowly stood, keeping a hand on the headboard just in case. His legs were shaky and his head was slightly throbbing, but other than that, he felt stronger than he did back then.
Usnavi told him where the bathroom was so he could shower while he got some spare clothes for him and instructed Sonny to make sure he didn’t hurt himself. The boy eagerly agreed.
As Ruben stood under the shower, the warm water washing away any remnants of the mountain and blood he may have had on him, he couldn’t help but feel tears in his eyes once again.
For the first time in what felt like an eternity…he finally felt safe.
Ruben didn’t know where he ended up, but he almost felt like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. This place was such a wonder compared to the hell hole he ran away from.
Once he had fully recovered, Usnavi and Sonny gave him a tour of their little barrio and introduced him to a number of their neighbors. Sonny seemed especially enthusiastic about the whole thing. And when Ruben asked why, he wasn’t expecting the answer he got.
“Oh, well it’s probably because Sonny was the one who found you.”
“W…What?” Ruben asked.
“Sonny loves exploring the mountains around here,” Usnavi explained. “Um, when he found you, he came and got me, and we carried you back.”
“Wow…” Ruben said softly. “That’s…weird…”
“Weird how?” Usnavi asked.
“Because…I remember seeing something before I passed out,” Ruben said. “I saw two eyes and…now that I think about it…they looked like wolf eyes.”
Though he didn’t see it, Usnavi’s eyes flashed with something. “Well, you were pretty sick, it was probably just in your head,” He said quickly.
Ruben wasn’t so sure but responded anyway, “Yeah…you’re probably right…”
Ruben kept finding himself being taken very off guard by the acts of kindness Usnavi and Sonny were showing him. After telling them he really had nowhere to go back to and no money to his name, Usnavi and Sonny were perfectly willing to let him stay with them.
“If I was able to find a job here, then you can too; I know from experience that this is the best place to start over,” Usnavi had said.
“But…aren’t you two struggling enough as is?” Ruben had asked. While recovering he had watched Usnavi and Sonny’s schedule. Usnavi’s life consisted almost constantly of work, as he was up tending the fields outside every day.
Sonny’s routine was fairly normal, in going to school and coming home, but the boy still had to walk almost a half mile to get to the bus stop and they had no car, meaning they had to rely on others to get them places or simply walk.
“Do we look that poor to you?” Usnavi joked. “Really Ruben, it’s no big deal.”
“Yeah! We want you to stay!” Sonny chirped.
“But…you don’t have enough room,” Ruben weakly protested. “I can’t keep taking Sonny’s bed…”
“We’ll work it out,” Usnavi reassured him. “I’m sure Benny and Kevin can help us out.”
“Can they build Ruben a bed, Navi?” Sonny asked.
“I don’t know, guess we’ll have to see,” Usnavi smiled. “But really Ruben, don’t worry about room; this house is already pretty big, one more person living here won’t hurt.”
Ruben didn’t know what to say. Honestly, he wanted to refuse, but weighing his options, he really had no choice. But then again, he’d much rather stay with Usnavi and Sonny rather than go out and risk Ian again.
Sonny had jumped up and down happily and wrapped his arms around Ruben’s waist when he agreed to stay.
“Ruben’s gonna stay!” Sonny exclaimed happily. He looked up at him. “Can I call you Uncle Ruben?”
Looking at the excited gleam in his eyes, Ruben couldn’t help but feel he made the right decision right then and there.
The first thing Ruben wanted to get done was find a job. He couldn’t bear to live in Usnavi and Sonny’s house without contributing in some way, especially after they had gone out of their way to get him a bed which was placed in a spare room next to the kitchen.
Thankfully it didn’t take him long, as this barrio as Usnavi called it, was very small. Before long, he got a job at the local pharmacy, which wasn’t too far from the bodega where Usnavi worked. Which meant Sonny and his little friend group started paying him visits on his shift more often than he expected.
Not that he minded; it was nice having a bunch of kids burst in and run up to the counter to tell him exciting things that happened at school. It wasn’t like they were asking something of him with stubborn persistence, they genuinely just wanted to see him. And that brightened Ruben’s day all the more.
Ruben was honestly starting to not recognize himself after a short month of living here. He couldn’t remember the last time he had felt like this; happy and safe, with control over his own life.
He felt important, wanted; and Sonny made him feel that way the most, always asking him for homework help or just sitting with him to talk about everything and nothing. Ruben found himself wishing there was a way he could pay the boy back for his kindness.
One day, Ruben went downstairs after hearing some kind of commotion, only to find Usnavi holding Sonny on the couch while whispering some soothing words to the seemingly upset child.
Usnavi eventually seemed to cheer him up and the boy hopped off the couch to get some soda, spying Ruben on the way. “Wanna watch TV?” He asked, wiping his still red eyes.
“S-Sure,” Ruben answered, deciding not to sour the boy’s good mood by asking what had happened. He asked Usnavi about it later.
“Sonny…got into a pretty bad fight at school,” Usnavi explained. “He’s pretty shaken about it.”
Shaken was an understatement. For the following several days, Sonny refused to go back to school while the boy he supposedly fought with kept dropping off his missed homework and the occasional treat. This whole situation seemed way more unusual than he thought. But when he asked, Usnavi made it clear to Ruben that he didn’t want to push Sonny, as what happened was more traumatizing than he could explain.
Ruben hated to do it, but he pushed further. “What are you not telling me?”
Usnavi froze for a moment before taking a deep breath. “…A wolf attacked the boy Sonny was fighting with.”
“W…What?” Ruben breathed.
“That’s what the boy said…honestly that’s the best explanation we have.”
“Jesus…” Ruben said softly. Usnavi nodded and silence filled the room. “M-Maybe…I could talk to him,” Ruben suggested.
“…Just don’t try and push him, okay?” Usnavi asked. “Oh, uh, if you’re going up there, that boy left Sonny’s homework again; could you bring it up to him?”
Ruben nodded; he gathered up the homework and candy bar that had been left on their doorstep and made his way up to Sonny’s room. He knocked and slowly opened the door, finding the boy curled up on his bed.
“Hey…” He said softly. “Can I come in?” Sonny didn’t answer, so Ruben took that as a yes. He closed the door behind him and sat next to him on the bed. “So…Usnavi told me what happened.” Sonny tensed slightly. “Are you okay?”
Sonny probably didn’t expect that question, as he hesitated before nodding. Ruben slowly raised his hand and hesitantly rubbed Sonny’s back. “It’s not your fault…” He said softly.
“But what if everyone at school hates me…?” Sonny asked so softly, Ruben barely caught it.
“Sonny, no one could possibly hate you,” Ruben said, almost offended that someone would even think of hating the boy. That unfortunately didn’t seem to sway Sonny. “What about that boy?” He asked, being careful as Sonny tensed. “Does he hate you? Is that why you fought with him?”
“He wouldn’t leave me alone…” Sonny mumbled. “I just wanted him to go away…”
“Why did he not go away?” Ruben gently pried.
Sonny paused. “I don’t know…”
“Well, I don’t think he hates you,” Ruben said. “If he did, he wouldn’t be bringing you your homework and all these treats.” He placed the snacks on his nightstand, but Sonny didn’t change his demeanor. Instead, Ruben heard sniffles coming from him.
Instinctively, Ruben carefully lifted the boy up and hugged him to his chest, rubbing his back soothingly. Sonny resisted a little, but eventually relented to his hold, crying softly into his turtleneck.
“Aw, it’s okay…” Ruben whispered. “It’s okay, pumpkin…” The minute the pet name left his mouth, Ruben froze. He hadn’t called someone that since he was a kid comforting his little sister. Thankfully, Sonny either didn’t mind or didn’t notice, as he nuzzled Ruben, clenching the back of his shirt in his little fists.
“I wish...I could go back…” Sonny hiccuped. “Go back...and stop everything…”
Ruben felt his heart clench at those words and he found himself holding Sonny tighter. “Sometimes I wish that too…”
Sonny blinked and peeked up at him with fearful eyes. “You...you wish you didn’t meet us?”
“No!” Ruben exclaimed. “No no, I would never want that!” He stroked his curls. “I meant that...sometimes when something bad happened to me, when I was your age, I would wish I could change it too.” Sonny deflated in relief.
“But...you have to move on,” Ruben continued. “No matter how bad it gets...worrying about the past won’t solve anything…” He took a deep breath. “And sometimes...even if something bad happens...something good can come from it.” He looked down at Sonny. “You know who taught me that?”
Sonny shook his head, “No…”
Ruben smiled. “You did, when you and Usnavi took me in.”
Sonny smiled back and buried his face in his chest again. “I love you, Uncle Ruben…”
Ruben felt guilt rise up in him. This boy was opening up to him, when Ruben had been with them for a long time now, and he had yet to tell them the truth about himself. Ruben pushed the guilt down and focused on the boy in his arms; he would tell them when he was ready. When he was ready…
“…I love you too, pumpkin…”
A few weeks later, Sonny went back to school, thanks to some coaxing from his friends, Ruben, and Pete, the boy who he fought with. Ruben was so glad to see Sonny walking to school again every day. He had missed Sonny and his friends’ little visits to the pharmacy. Sonny’s smile was back like nothing happened and Ruben couldn’t be happier.
Once they had gotten back into a steady routine, Ruben felt the guilt come back. They deserved to know…after everything they did for him, they deserved to know.
Finally, one day, once Sonny was sent up to bed, Ruben stopped Usnavi on the stairs. “Could I…talk to you? …Privately?”
“What is it?” Usnavi asked with concern.
“There’s…something I want to tell you.”
Ruben recounted every detail to Usnavi, even details he didn’t know he remembered. Maybe it was because he had kept it all cooped up inside him for so long. Regardless, it didn’t take him long to burst into tears as he told the story. He faintly felt Usnavi rubbing his back as he stumbled through the rest, Usnavi somehow catching every word.
When he was done, he was a bawling mess, and Usnavi just held him tightly, murmuring soothing words to him. Ruben then felt a familiar tiny body join the hug and he felt a pang of fear that Sonny had overheard everything, but he was too overwhelmed to really dwell on it.
“You’re safe here,” Usnavi said softly. “No one’s ever gonna hurt you here.”
“If they do, I’ll fight them!” Sonny agreed, bringing a small smile to Ruben’s face. As Ruben sobbed while clinging to Usnavi and Sonny, Ruben felt a weight lift off his chest. He was finally free…free of his past…and he had people who still accepted him in spite of it. That was all he could ask for.
Another month passed and Sonny remained moderately energetic, particularly around Ruben.
Usnavi eventually took him aside and asked him what was wrong, and Sonny looked up at him with glassy eyes. “I’m tired of hiding from him,” He said. “I…I wanna tell Uncle Ruben!”
“Mijo, you know we can’t!” Usnavi protested.
“Why?” Sonny whined.
“Because we don’t know what he’ll do!” Usnavi responded. “He could run away or tell someone about you; this isn’t something you can trust to just anybody!”
“But Uncle Ruben isn’t just anybody!” Sonny cried. “I trust him, why don’t you? He’s familia!”
An answer died on Usnavi’s tongue, because there was no answer. In truth…he did trust Ruben, especially after hearing what he went through. He hated lying through his teeth to Ruben about Sonny; lying to him about what happened with Pete was hard enough.
Sonny lowered his head, rubbing his arm. “Uncle Ruben told us his secret…so why can’t we tell him ours?”
Usnavi bit his lip and gazed at the window as lightning flashed; a storm would be coming shortly. Sonny didn’t want to hide anything from Ruben, even his greatest secret. A secret that could risk everything. Usnavi sighed and opened his mouth to speak, when Sonny’s head shot up sharply. The boy’s eyes narrowed, and they darted back and forth.
“What is it, mijo?” Usnavi asked. Sonny didn’t answer and broke into a run. Usnavi followed him down the stairs until they reached the living area where they froze in their tracks.
The back door was wide open, the curtains blowing from the wind. Dirty shoe prints dotted the floor and carpet and some things on the coffee table and couch had been thrown into disarray.
But the thing that scared them the most? Ruben was gone.
Sonny transformed and began sniffing the area, hurrying up to the door. “Do you smell him?” Usnavi asked.
“Yeah!” Sonny nodded. He moved to the back door and smelled the air before bolting out the door.
“Sonny, wait!” Usnavi called. Rain started to fall as Sonny ran up the mountain trail and Usnavi gave chase.
Ruben struggled as hard as he could, clawing at the arm wrapped around his neck as he was dragged up the mountain path. His ziptied wrists made it more difficult than it already was and the slippery ground wasn’t much help either.
“You’ve hidden well,” Ian growled in his ear. “Was a real pain to find you, you know?” Ruben whimpered. “Well, I’ll tell you what, this is never gonna happen again, got it?”
Ruben shook his head, tears starting to form in his eyes. “Ian…please-”
He was cut off as Ian held a small knife under his chin. “Oh no, you’re not going to say another word; when we get home, I’m going to make sure you’re locked up so tightly you won’t even think about escaping again.” Ian’s eyes were murderous. “You left me with a limited supply of that drug, Rubes; it’s pure dumb luck Jason didn’t come back before I found you.” Tears dripped down Ruben’s face, mixing with the rain that started to fall.
“And now you’re going to finish what you started.” Ruben choked on a sob as Ian continued to drag him. This was it; his life was over. If only he had a chance to say goodbye to Usnavi and Sonny. If only-
A growl filled the air and a small dark figure leapt out of the trees. Its paws landed on Ian’s back, knocking him and his prisoner to the ground. Ruben lifted his head to see a full-grown wolf before them; its brown fur was on end and its lips were pulled back in a fierce snarl, its ears bent back flat against its head. Ruben found himself shivering from the piercing glare the wolf was giving them.
“Don’t. Move.” Ian hissed to Ruben, clamping a hand on the scruff of his neck. Ruben let out another whimper and the wolf tensed. Ruben’s eyes widened as the wolf clearly set its sights on Ian.
“Easy now…nice doggie,” Ian said as he slowly got up, dragging Ruben with him and the wolf’s eyes fell on the knife as he directed it at Ruben. “Easy boy…eas-”
The wolf charged forward and leapt towards them. Ruben felt himself be thrown to the ground. He covered his face and curled into a ball, expecting to feel teeth and claws, but he felt nothing. All he could hear was Ian…screaming?
Ruben slowly raised his arms from his face, only to see the wolf on top of Ian, attacking him viciously, the knife lying on the ground. Only the occasional lightning flash illuminated the scene, giving Ruben a good view of the vicious animal attacking his tormentor.
“Ruben!” Usnavi suddenly appeared beside him, soaked from the rain as well.
“Usnavi…?” Ruben couldn’t process this.
“C’mon!” Usnavi started to haul him up by the arm. “We gotta get out of here!” Usnavi picked at the zipties on his wrists and Ruben looked back at the wolf and forced himself to turn away when Ian let out a roar. He kicked the wolf off him, resulting in a yipe from the wolf and that makes Usnavi freeze and whirl around.
Ian, sporting plenty of bloody bites and scratches, barreled towards Ruben and Usnavi. Ruben felt himself get shoved away from Usnavi and his eyes widened as he saw Ian on top of Usnavi, a hand on his neck and the knife raised.
Usnavi clawed at his hand and struggled as Ian grinned maniacally down at him, and Ruben heard himself scream just as thunder clapped loudly.
A second later, Ian was being dragged off Usnavi. The wolf was back, dragging the maniac off Usnavi by the leg. Ian screamed and let go of the knife as the wolf dragged him out of sight before more snarls and growls filled the air with the screams.
Usnavi slowly sat up and rubbed his neck while Ruben couldn’t help but stare at the place where Ian had just been dragged. Seconds later, the screams stopped, and the wolf reemerged, red eyes glinting in the darkness. Red stained the wolf’s mouth and paws and he whined.
To Ruben’s horror, Usnavi got right up and walked towards it. “Usnavi…!”
Usnavi knelt right in front of the wolf and wrapped his arms around its neck. “It’s okay…” He whispered. “It’s okay…it’s over…” The wolf’s red eyes faded back to green and it started…to morph.
Ruben’s eyes widened as the wolf was replaced with Sonny, clinging to Usnavi tightly. That was the last thing Ruben remembered before his vision left him.
“Ruben…”
“Uncle Ruben…?”
“Ruben…wake up...”
“Is he okay, Navi…?”
“I told you, mijo, he’s fine, he was just scared…”
Ruben felt a bed underneath him and he recognized the voices around him. Were they safe? Oh god, did Ian have them? Ruben opened his eyes and the two cousins lit up.
“Uncle Ruben!” Sonny cried.
Ruben felt a swell of relief as Ruben saw the familiar walls of his room. “Sonny…” The boy hurried forward and hugged him from the edge of the bed, but Ruben looked at Usnavi. “Ian...where-”
“He’s gone,” Usnavi answered.
“Are you sure?”
“He’s not coming back, trust me.”
Ruben felt any remaining fear turn to water as he slowly remembered what had taken place. But then the implications settled in and his face became shocked.
Usnavi stepped towards him, looking a bit uncomfortable. “What do you remember?”
Ruben looked at his quilt. “Ian...he was here…”
He had taken him by pure surprise. Ruben had his back to the door but thought he had heard it softly open. He felt a hand clap over his mouth and a hand wrap around his chest, dragging him out the door before he could even process what was going on.
“He...dragged me...up the mountain...and then…” He remembered the eyes and the fur. “A wolf...a wolf appeared.” He could still clearly remember the creature in great detail.
“It...attacked us...it went after Ian...then you were there, Usnavi,” He looked at the older De la Vega. “But then…” His hands shook. “Ian attacked you...I was so scared...I thought I was gonna lose you…”
Usnavi squeezed his hand in reassurance. “But then...the wolf...it took Ian away...and...and…”
“And?” Usnavi gently prompted. “I...I thought I saw...Sonny…” Ruben said slowly. “Sonny, he...he was…no that, that’s impossible…”
“No…” Sonny spoke softly. “It was me…”
Before Ruben could ask what he meant, he saw fur start to cover the boy’s body. His face elongated into a muzzle and ears poked out of his head. Seconds later, the very same wolf stood before him.
Usnavi watched Ruben carefully as the wolf sat on the ground, ears drooping as if in shame. The wolf then took a step towards Ruben, and he instinctively recoiled slightly. Hours ago, he had seen this very same wolf tear apart Ian; seeing it look gentle was bit jarring.
“He won’t hurt you,” Usnavi said softly. “It’s still Sonny.”
The wolf walked closer, but Ruben remained still. “How…?” He rasped. His mind could barely process the fact that this was the same sweet little boy he had grown to love these past few months.
“We don’t really know,” Usnavi answered honestly. “Except that it’s genetic...his father was the same as him.”
The wolf slowly put his front paws on the edge of Ruben’s bed to get a bit closer. Ruben couldn’t help but flinch and regretted it when he saw the wolf’s eyes fill with sadness. ...Sonny’s eyes.
Ruben felt his arm slowly lift and find its way to the wolf’s head. He felt the soft fur under his hand and the wolf seemed to slowly perk up in happiness. Ruben was reminded of Sonny’s face whenever he ruffled his curls; he could even see the boy’s smile on the wolf’s face.
This wasn’t a trick, a dream, or a hallucination. This was real.
“Sonny…it’s you…?”
Sonny’s tail wagged and he jumped onto Ruben’s bed happily, licking his face like a big happy dog. Ruben found himself spluttering out a laugh as Usnavi deflated in relief and a few moments later, the wolf vanished and Sonny was a boy again, lying on his chest.
“I’ve wanted to tell you for so long!” Sonny exclaimed. “I knew you would keep our secret!”
Ruben smiled at Sonny, almost forgetting what he had just witnessed and how impossible it was and looked at Usnavi. “Does anyone else…?”
Usnavi shook his head. “There...are a lot of things we’ve lied to you about,” He said softly with remorse.
Ruben shook his head, “I have no right to blame anyone for keeping a secret.”
Usnavi smiled in relief and sat on the edge of his bed. “You have no idea how good it feels to finally tell someone about this.”
“You know our secret; now you’re familia for real!” Sonny beamed.
Usnavi smiled. “I’d joke about how now we can’t let you leave, but I think that would be in poor taste.”
Ruben chuckled despite how right he was. “Yeah, too soon.”
Sonny nuzzled Ruben again and Usnavi found himself joining the small group hug that Ruben returned.
He was free…at long last he was free from that man. He was gone for good. He could finally live his life in this new place that he was now glad to call home.
Even if he was living with a…half human, half wolf, he wouldn’t trade this place for the world.
Day 4. “Unwell”
“I want to sleep until I feel better.” Unknown
Today, I woke up exactly the alarms starts to ring, I guess this morning is not so good at all. I feel sick, Maybe because I took a night shower before going to sleep. 7:25 AM, I should got up from my bed, but since I don’t feeling well, I decided to extend 10 more minutes.
After doing the daily routine I am to do so, I went to mom to asked her if she needed a help, she refuse and said she’s not going to cook a lot today.
Since I’m going to wash clothes, I asked her again if she’s wants me to take care of their clothes, she did gave me few clothes to wash, then I started washing. I can really feel that my body isn’t in the condition to do work, I rushed washing for me to take a rest as soon as possible.
When I’m done hanging up the clothes that I have washed, 11 o’clock I did prepared the lunch for me and for my younger brother who just woke up. By the way, my younger brother is a special child. Yes, he can’t do anything without any guide so as her older sis I am in charge to whatever actions he’s going to do. Going back, after we ate our lunch we did rest, because I am not feeling well,
I decided to watch movie on net flix but I am too tired. then suddenly I want to read stories from wattpad. Recalling the last time I read a published story here was about a year ago, so I almost forgot what was the story about, take note. I stop reading Project Loki V3 when it is still on going, so I had many chapters to read. By the way, I love genres when it comes to book is mystery, thriller or something like solving cases. I did read 3 chapters, while reading. I heard the dirty ice cream bell, since mom left us a money, me and my younger brother buy an ice cream, I decided to buy ice cream for myself also because there’s a norm or I don’t know, I usually heard this to old people that when you feel sad or bad, just eat ice cream to lighten up mood since I’m feeling unwell today.
When we’re done with the ice cream, we went back inside the house and rest. I stopped reading too, and let myself sleep and turned off my phone, being too much exposed on gadgets is really bad, especially when you have sick, and I took a nap.
4:00 in the afternoon I woke up and shockingly it’s raining! and I uttered, “the clothes!” I rushed through the door, and I saw through the window that the clothes are sheltered, maybe mom did sheltered it. She’s the best. I am smiling going back to bed, and blessed to have mom like I have. My mom doesn’t know that I feel unwell today, I must tell her before dinner.
Dinner time, we gathered again in the dinning table and enjoyed the food, we did share thoughts about politics and about vaccine for COVID-19, we have a good conversation, it was fun. I told mom I ‘m not feeling well today and said I should take medicine and I did. After dinner I did the chores, washing dishes and refilled the water bottle and put it back on the fridge.
Today was not really good.
I guess Ice cream did not really made me feel better.
But I feel blessed to have mom who sheltered the clothes before the rain pours heavily.
Also happy to have an Ice cream for today.
Hoping for my fast recovery, I hope this ain’t going to worst.
What would tomorrow brings to me?
And to my family? I hope it’s blessing.
Lucky Jacket
AUs are dangerous because sometimes you’ll write a chapter and then your friend will draw art for it and then you’ll end up talking about the clothes characters wear and then you end up writing 2500 words in the AU that don’t belong anywhere in the fic but you just have them now so you’ve gotta post them somewhere, right?
Anyway. This is because @matte-bat and i started talking about Klavier’s leather jacket on twitter.
Drabble for my klapollo college AU, Anyway, Here’s Guilty Love, taking place the next semester so I can ignore all the angst stuff that hasn’t actually happened in the fic yet.
As always, god I hope the readmore works on mobile otherwise i’m sorry
Klavier Gavin was, in general, a very punctual person. Although fashionable in everything else, he was rarely fashionably late, and so when Apollo spent fifteen minutes sitting in the quad waiting for his boyfriend to arrive for their date that evening, he started to get legitimately concerned.
Two texts had already gone unanswered. Frowning at his phone, Apollo sat on the picnic bench, tapping his toe, for another thirty seconds before deciding he might as well try to figure out what was going on. And if Klavier was on his way, the two of them would just run into each other.
That’s what Apollo fully expected to happen, but he made it all the way to the Gavinners house without encountering any tall platinum blonds. Somewhat perplexed, he stood on the doorstep for a moment, and just as he was about to knock, the door opened in front of him.
“Hey, Klav—” he began, but it was Daryan on the other side of the door.
“Good, you’re here,” Daryan said. He looked troubled, and Apollo felt a flutter of worry in his stomach.
“Yeah, uh, is Klavier…”
“He’s fine,” Daryan assured him, rolling his eyes. “He’s just having…a moment.”
“O…kay?”
Daryan leaned against the wall. “You know his leather jacket, right? The one that like, starts to dissolve if he wears it in the rain?”
Apollo nodded. He knew it very well.
It had been a gift from Klavier’s host family in Germany. To many, the jacket might have been deemed unwearable many years ago, but Klavier had been very creative. Loose threads had been diligently trimmed, fraying edges artfully concealed, lost zipper pulls replaced with tiny silver Gavinners charms. The sleeves, too short after Klavier’s high school growth spurt, were in a state of being permanently rolled up, and Klavier managed to make it look like the hem was supposed to be cropped short by pairing the jacket with well-chosen graphic tees. The entire thing probably would have been uncomfortably tight around his shoulders by now if years of wear hadn’t gently stretched and softened the leather—it had quite literally grown with him.
Klavier’s attachment to the jacket was a bit of a puzzle, but then again, many things about Klavier were a bit of a puzzle. He had come back from Germany with a whole new vocabulary, after all, so it wasn’t too strange that he had also returned with a jacket that apparently doubled as something of a security blanket. Klavier called it “good luck,” but whether there was any rationale behind that declaration remained unknown.
“Well, it ripped,” Daryan explained.
Apollo frowned, confused. He was fairly certain the jacket had already ripped, multiple times, and Klavier had been playing it off as an intentional fashion choice for at least a year.
“Okay, understatement,” Daryan went on, noticing Apollo’s doubt. “One of the elbows disintegrated.”
Apollo’s frown turned to a grimace. “Ah.”
“Yeah. So he’s, uh, mourning, I guess.”
Of course he was.
Apollo sighed. “I’ll go talk to him.”
The door to Klavier’s bedroom was slightly ajar, so Apollo pushed his way hesitantly into the room.
Klavier sat cross-legged on the floor, the jacket spread out on his lap. He held the sleeve in one hand and a needle and thread in the other, and he was apparently attempting to sew a patch over the missing elbow. A questionable choice, Apollo thought, but he could probably pull it off.
As Apollo watched, Klavier very slowly poked the needle through the sleeve, and very slowly dragged the thread through. It almost worked, but as he pulled to tighten the thread, a crack snaked through the leather and the material around the thread crumbled into pieces. Klavier’s shoulders slumped.
“Verdammt,” he muttered.
“Hey, Klav,” Apollo said quietly, and Klavier jumped.
“Oh! Apollo,” he said, brushing a hand through his bangs in an attempt to hide how startled he had been. Then his eyes widened. “Oh. Shit. What time is it?”
Apollo chuckled. “You’re very late.”
Klavier looked pained. “Ach. Schatzi, I’m sorry, I—”
“Don’t worry about it. I heard there’s been a tragedy.” He dropped to the floor next to Klavier to take a closer look at the jacket. “Eugh. That doesn’t look good.”
Klavier sighed. “I’m afraid I’m just making it worse.”
“Hm.” Apollo wished he could say otherwise, but it really did seem like the sleeve was beyond repair. “And you can’t wear it like that?”
Apollo was doubtful, but he wouldn’t put anything past Klavier.
Dejectedly, Klavier shrugged the jacket on. No, there really isn’t any way to make that look stylish, is there?
The end of the torn sleeve looked awkwardly orphaned from the rest of the jacket, and as Klavier experimentally bent his arm, the rip in the material only broadened.
Even so, Klavier looked somewhat hopeful, as if he wished Apollo would tell him it really didn’t look all that bad, actually.
“Hm,” Apollo said instead. The glint of hope in Klavier’s eyes died.
He sighed heavily and gingerly removed the jacket, resting it on his lap again. The two of them looked down at it.
“Klavier,” Apollo said slowly. Sometimes, after a long life, old leather jackets have to move on to the big motorcycle gang in the sky, where their zippers never get stuck and they can listen to as much rock music as they want… “I think you need a new jacket.”
Klavier sniffed. “But…”
“Besides,” Apollo pointed out, “it’s not even cold enough for a jacket.” It was October—outside was a balmy 76 degrees.
Klavier pouted. “It was part of my outfit,” he said, his voice quiet. He ran a finger over the torn edge.
Apollo bumped their shoulders together. “I’m sorry, Klav. I know it was your favorite.”
Klavier gave a small, disconsolate nod, then carefully folded the jacket and stood.
“You’re probably starving,” he said apologetically. “We can go.”
He took a moment to place the jacket on his bed, then followed Apollo downstairs.
“You can hang it on your wall,” Apollo suggested. “You know—Miles Edgeworth style.”
Klavier blinked, then let out a short laugh. “Okay, Apollo. Point made. It’s just a jacket, after all.”
Apollo’s bracelet squeezed slightly at that, but he decided to let it slide.
~~~
Apollo Justice was on a mission.
When Clay woke up Saturday morning the following week, he looked across the room to see Apollo already awake and dressed, sitting at his desk and poring over his laptop.
“Are you doing homework…?” he asked doubtfully. Although Apollo was perhaps slightly more studious than average, 10 a.m. on a Saturday was a little much.
Apollo didn’t even look his direction. “No. Hey, do you know any good thrift stores? Besides these ones.”
Squinting at Apollo’s screen, Clay could see a map of the city, scattered with red pins.
“Uh, not really. Why are you looking for thrift stores?”
Apollo needed for a thrift store because both shopping malls that he could reach via city bus had proven woefully inadequate when it came to providing a replacement for a cherished leather jacket. He was moving on to Plan B.
He explained the situation to Clay, who apparently knew Klavier well enough by this point that he wasn’t surprised in the slightest.
“Well,” Clay said. “I didn’t really have any plans for today, anyway.”
Apollo blinked. “You don’t need to come…”
“I’m closer to his size, aren’t I? Let’s find your boyfriend a jacket.”
Then Clay called Ema, who apparently knew the jacket’s history and was surprisingly sympathetic, and Ema called Kay, who was the only one in their extended friend group who had a car. Soon the four of them were pulling away from campus in Kay’s black sedan, Ema in the passenger seat while Apollo called out directions from his phone from the back.
The first store was a bust for leather jackets, although Kay found some sunglasses and Ema spent a long time looking at ties. Clay snatched up a nebula sweatshirt at the next shop, and Apollo actually found really nice suit vest at the third. The fourth store had a wide selection of jackets, but they were all either too worn, too big, or the wrong color.
By late afternoon, Apollo was starting to get very discouraged. The number of stores on his list was dwindling, and, while the four of them had all found some great cheap purchases, their original goal was yet unfulfilled.
“Maybe you can contact the host family,” Kay suggested as they left the second-to-last store. “Find out what brand it is, and buy one online?”
He had thought of that, although he hadn’t needed to go so far as to reach out to the family—he remember the tag on the inside of the jacket. And although the original wasn’t in stock anymore, there were numerous others he could have chosen from—if he wanted to spend his next two paychecks from Mr. Wright, that was. He sighed.
“That’s kind of a last resort,” he admitted. Klavier deserved it, of course, but…ouch.
But his optimism was wearing thin by the time they walked into the final store on his list. It was one of the nicer places they had visited—Kay was immediately drawn to a display of gloves, and Ema drifted over to the selection of button-down shirts—but when Apollo finally found the men’s jackets, he knew right away he would be disappointed. There was one leather jacket, but he could already tell it was too big.
But the rest of his friends were still looking around, so he wandered the aisles absently, running his fingers across a rack of shirts.
“Ah! Pollo!”
Apollo looked up sharply to see Clay skid to a stop at the end of the aisle. He spread his arms wide. He was wearing a leather jacket.
For a moment, Apollo could only stare.
“It’s…that’s…”
“Perfect, right?” Clay said. “And it’s super comfortable, too. I literally don’t want to take it off.”
Reluctant to celebrate just yet, Apollo walked in a circle around Clay, half-expecting to find that the back of the jacket was covered in some elaborate rhinestone monstrosity, or that it had some weird smell. But it was just a classic black leather jacket with a few tasteful zippered pockets, and it seemed barely worn. It fit Clay really well, too, and although Clay was shorter than Klavier, they had a similar build.
“Where did you find it?” He was faintly afraid that a customer would storm up to them imminently and accuse Clay of snatching the article of clothing out of their own basket.
Clay gestured vaguely. “Over there, on a rack. Someone must have put it back in the wrong spot.”
Tentatively, Apollo flipped over the price tag, and exhaled in relief. A little pricey, but nothing like the ones he had seen online.
“It’s perfect,” he agreed finally. Clay beamed.
The four of them made their purchases and returned to campus. Back in his room Apollo carefully wrapped up the jacket in tissue paper and put it in a plain paper shopping back that he had lying around. Then he paused.
Klavier’s birthday had passed in the summer. Their six-month anniversary had been last month. Christmas was much too long from now. It wasn’t as if he couldn’t just give Klavier a gift out of the blue, but it would be nice if there was some occasion…
He was idly scrolling through Facebook that evening when it came to him.
One this day: one year ago.
Belong was the image Klavier had made to advertise the first meeting of the Ivy Pre-Law Society.
That’s as good an excuse as any, he thought, smiling, even if it was a couple days off.
He texted Klavier to make sure he was around, then headed over to the Gavinners house.
Sam let him in. Klavier was in his room, sitting at his desk doing homework. On a Saturday night. Apollo would never not find it amusing that his boyfriend was a bigger nerd than he was.
Klavier turned around curiously when Apollo rapped a knuckle lightly against the door.
“Schatzi,” he said, raising his eyebrows, “what’s up?”
Apollo held out the bag. “Don’t worry, you didn’t need to get me anything.”
Frowning, Klavier accepted it. “What’s this?”
“Your, uh, we-started-our-club-one-year-ago present,” Apollo explained. He shrugged. “I dunno. Just open it.”
Klavier dug into the bag and unwrapped the jacket. His mouth fell open.
“Apollo…” he breathed.
Apollo rubbed his neck. “I know your old one meant a lot to you, and I know I can’t really replace it, but…I dunno, this one probably isn’t as nice? But it seemed really comfortable, so, um…” He bit his lip. “Hopefully it fits, at least?”
Wordlessly, Klavier unzipped the jacket and put it on. It did fit, like a glove. Klavier straightened out the sleeves and seemed momentarily surprised that they reached all the way to his wrists.
“Apollo,” he began, as he adjusted the lapels and flipped up the collar, “you didn’t have to…”
“Well, I wanted to,” Apollo said. Then he smiled wryly. “And you’re not really acting like someone who’s actually about to refuse a gift.”
Klavier, who was partway through securing the zipper, paused. He reddened slightly. “Well. It is very comfortable…”
Apollo laughed. “Good. It looks good.”
Klavier lifted his head, and Apollo noticed that his eyes looked a little shinier than usual. “Thank you, Apollo. This is…you really didn’t have to, but…it’s perfect.”
Apollo relaxed. “I know it’s not really the same as the old one…” he started to say, but Klavier shook his head.
“That one was special because it was a gift from people I care about,” he replied. “And so is this, ja? No less special.” He stretched his shoulders. “And look—no splitting seams!”
“I really can’t believe the old one lasted that long,” Apollo marveled.
Klavier took a breath. “Debatable that it really lasted,” he admitted. He stood and crossed the room to check his reflection in the mirror hanging behind his door. “I may actually be able to wear this for a concert without worrying about a wardrobe malfunction.”
Apollo narrowed his eyes. “Do you ever actually worry about that?”
Tilting his head, Klavier considered this. “No, not really. All part of the show, ja?” He grinned at Apollo over his shoulder, and Apollo rolled his eyes.
Klavier admired his reflection for a moment longer, then turned. “But schatz, now I feel bad. I did not get you a club anniversary present.”
“Eh, I’m sure you’ll find some way to make it up to me.”
“Will I now?” Klavier’s lips spread into a smile. He came to stand in front of Apollo, resting his hands on Apollo’s waist.
Apollo tried to suppress his own smile as he looked up at Klavier. “Yeah, you’re smart, I’m sure you’ll think of something.”
“Oh, I’m sure,” Klavier murmured, leaning in and capturing his lips.
Apollo responded by grabbing the lapels of Klavier’s jacket and pulling him closer. It was strangely satisfying to do so without worrying that the fabric might come apart in his hands.
~~~
The next morning, Apollo woke to a text from Clay.
Clay [10:03 AM]: so...... i guess klavier liked his new jacket
One of Apollo’s arms was trapped awkwardly under a snoozing Klavier’s head, so he typed out a succinct message with one hand.
Apollo [10:04 AM]: shut up
Clay [10:04 AM]: you’re welcome ;)
