Tumblespores
A hyperlichenized symbiotic association
First I have to define some terms
Hyperlichenization: A hypo-fictional assocation between a fungus, a photosymbiont, and an animal. This describes a lot of "species" I've worldbuilt. In a lot of these symbioses, the fungus is considered the "brain" and "identity center" of the hyper-organism, though it also makes use of the neuro-capabilities of its co-symbionts. The fungus and photosymbiont play their usual parts: fungus provides protection and nutrient access, and the photosynth synths sugars from photo.
And where does the new guy come in? Usually, the animal serves as a mobile host that benefits the hyperorg by being able to seek out more favorable locations or resources. For arthropod-hosted hyperlichens, the animal is little more than a half-living mech to puppet around.
In tumblespores, however, the situation is a little different. The hyperorg has found other ways to get around: rolling and ballooning. They let wind steer them like real-world tumbleweeds; strong enough breezes can even carry them into the air, where they shed tiny seedships (one day I should do a whole post on the complex interlinking of the different gametes that ensure reproduction of the whole trio) into their nuptial flights.
This strategy works so well, tumbles no longer need legs to get around. And so the animalia of the association have become changed. Animals have some additional biochemical benefits: They are very convenient O2 waste disposals / CO2 generators, and they produce unique, useful compounds. Some can even provide cleaning and anti-parasitic services. So, instead of ejecting the red-celled leghavers, tumblespores have reduced their movement capabilities and endosymbiosed them into the fluffy hyphal center of the hyperorg. Upon dissection of a tumblespore, you can see the creature curled up amid the fluff, like a shriveled embryo. Food is readily provided in the form of co-symbiont food-fruit structures (plus the occasional bug trapped in the hyphae), so the creature doesn't need sophisticated movement to get to them. As such, its limbs have shriveled into vestigial nubs; it is little more than an eyeless worm. This animal could never survive outside of its belichened cradle, but it provides invaluable benefits that have enabled the hyperspecies to survive.
A few species of tumblespores even live as full-time aeroplankton. They are un-dense enough, the Oluan atmosphere thick enough, that they can live their whole lives without ever touching ground. These ones exhibit even more extreme adaptations: Their seeds are smaller and more numerous, and mature hyperorgs have increased air space between the hyphae. They have minimized their water storage, and the animal co-symbionts have taken on a mummified character. Fat and muscle are minimized, and their skin has shrunk over bird-light bones. They appear spindly, almost insectoid. Their head and body core remain (the hyperorg still has use for the brain, as evidenced by thousands of tiny hyphae reaching into its head and back). Were it not for that, it would hardly be recognizable as animal at all.
It's rare, but sightings have been reported of tumblespores rising high into the atmosphere and even escaping it. The orb system is remarkably self-sustaining, and other life has been confirmed to exist in space (albeit life of different biochemical composition). Scientists hypothesize, if they can withstand the lack of atmosphere, some species of tumblespores may, too, be able to thrive out in the cosmos.
Real-world inspirations: aeroplankton, tumbleweeds, fig wasps, anglerfish, spiders ballooning on the wind. And vanilla lichens, of course :)
#side note there is not an adequate word for “the opposite of dense”#let's fix that#I humbly submit “luffy” for its similarity to “fluffy” and as an homage to that one post about being “wet” and “luft”#also. luffy. the guy. kinda hilarious#worldbuilding#biology#speculative evolution#spec evo#willowngs#olua#4444

Stressful days suck, hope you're getting your energy back soon, take care of yourself! <3
Have few thoughts about timetravel!Xebec since I absolutely adore your version of him, those boots def can walk all over me OwO
the timetravel def wasn't planned, he had found the spell by chance and it never specified what would happen so he kept it as a backup just in case
during the God Valley incident he got cornered and used it when it became clear he wouldn't otherwise get out of the situation
He thought that his crew would keep watch over his child until he could get back to them since Crocodile was raised with them (looking at you Newgate and Linlin)
(You know what they say about assumptions)
Instead of landing near his little Pebble, he turns up in front of ASL and subsequently has to learn to live with the facts that a) he's def not in his original time anymore and b) that somehow the spawn of Monkey D. Garp managed to romance his Pebble
Xebec: This might as well just happen to me...I would love some spaghetti
ASL not taking him seriously (S: Should we tell baba or dad? A: nah, he's kinda pathic)
Would be kind of funny if Xebec is just laying head down on the table while Luffy pokes him (Ace and Sabo are judging Xebec...hard) when whoever is supposed to be watching them appears
People finding out in a ranking order of how hilarious I imagine it:
Makino (in the case that ASL are having their lunch in Party Bar) -> "Oh, who is your new friend? Rocks, I have never heard of that name but I can ask around Foosha? Oh, you mean Wani, they're currently on a work trip so I'm looking after the boys, do you want me to take a message? ...What do you boys mean he just appeared??" While Xebec is trying to impress on her the fact that a) he's a scourge of the seas, b) yes please, he does need to talk with his Pebble ASAP and c) no, he does not mean any harm and he's not some crazy stalker!! Ending with him nearly being run out of Foosha or Garp being called on him because he's visiting
Garp -> but in this case ASL already finished their lunch and went back to their tree house (still with the premise that Dragodile is gone for some reason and that they're currently babysat on Dawn), they decided to let that fancy guy follow them because Luffy likes him and they trust his intuition so, so it's just a row of ducklings with Ace and Sabo at the front bickering about Xebec while Luffy follows happily and Xebec is just trudging along, shell-shocked because his Pebble has children!! and being tired af after God Valley, they decide to park Xebec with Dadan because that's where they got left when their gramps didn't know where to stick them (Dadan: I am not running a charity or hotel!! ...fine, I guess he can stay), imagine Garp turning up a few days later and finding not only his grandkids but also that guy he and Roger tried their hardest to kill and who then seemingly disappeared from thin air, Garp and Xebec just staring slently for a moment with completely blank faces before Garp turns around and walks back into the forest, ASL are delighted and want to learn how to do that to gramps before a sudden ruckus starts and Garp comes charging back and just starts trying his best to kill Xebec, cue both of them just screaming at each other over perceived slights while everyone else is just absolute lost (X: My Pebble and your family?? G: And they also became a government sanctioned warlord!! X: NooOOO!!)
Dragodile -> "What do you mean a strange man just appeared and you fed him because he looked kinda pathetic?? Dragon, this is your fault, you and your bleeding heart, we should just remove hi- DAD??"
Thank you for this delightful ask! I do enjoy pondering this AU and you have great and amusing ideas! X'D I don't know which scenario I find most hilarious! Maybe Garp, because poor Dadan has to deal with another guy. But he's so wet and pathetic that she can't say no. She'll just make Crocodile pay for this freeloader since his kids dragged in this guy. And then poor Dadan almost gets her house destroyed when Garp and Xebec clash. (I assume Xebec is stronger than Garp if it took both Garp and Roger working together to defeat him. But maybe he's just strangely depowered from God Valley and the impromptu time traveling so he can't fight at full strength.)
I have some thoughts too but they might be darker than the comedy route we seem to be taking for this AU *lol*
I was imagining that Rocks vaguely knows what the spell does. That it connects blood to blood. Stealing from Supernatural some more, it's possible that he knew that it was going to activate the moment he dies - the energy unleashed in death can be harnessed and directed so that instead of the soul of the person going wherever it goes in the OP world it stays on earth, but Xebec doesn't know what exactly is going to happen. Will he just become a spirit? Fine by him, he's gonna haunt Roger.
It's possible that it was announced that the God Knights managed to kill Rocks' kid, WB believing it because he saw the familiar clothing (that Croc might have exchanged with one of the many civilian casualties because he heard that he was hunted. He's a tough, resourceful 8 year old.) but Rocks knows it can't be true. So he goes to fight, not caring if he dies. Because if he dies and his Pebble is still alive, blood will connect to blood with the spell. If he dies and his Pebble is also dead then it doesn't matter anyway.
And if the spell doesn't do anything or does something else, surely WB or Linlin will take care of his Pebble (who has to be alive.)
So for all Garp knows Rocks is dead. He killed him. And then a blast of energy hit them and they thought this was just some sort of self-destruction by Rocks so that the Government couldn't get his body. But nope. He's here eating Spaghetti with his grandkids. Still as young as he was that day. X'D
And I guess Crocodile would recognize his dad in this case. Because I've also played around with an idea that he, for some reason, doesn't recognize him, doesn't remember anything about his childhood before waking up on a random island, all alone.
But we can do funny/ silly for this AU, I don't mind! Plenty of other AUs I could load full of angst >:3
(Do I need a Rocks D. Crocodile tag or something...?)

The most embarrassing series of posts about Lawlu you will ever read: edition Punk Hazard (part 2)
We're still not done with the Punk Hazard! There's way too many interactions with them there and posts have apparently a restriction of 30 images, geez. Anyway, let's follow the tale further!
Law: Hey, I can hear that.
It's hilarious, because it turned out to be true in the end. Law wouldn't betray Luffy (as in backstab him), but he would finish the alliance early if that means keeping Luffy safe. But would it count as betrayal actually?
And then Luffy brags again. Wait, or doesn't he? It sounds kinda correct to me though lol. Also of course there's nothing to worry about, after all it will be Law's job from now on!
Law (thinking): Those people... how did they survive so long on their own?! They have no sense of danger!
Probably a moment later: Wait, so it will be my job to worry for them all the time?!
Law (thinking): It's nice of them to have brought the kids here, but they're pirates, I can't really expect Strawhats to actually want to help them, right? Damn, if I have to choose between keeping Mugiwara-ya safe and keeping the children safe, I guess the choice is only one to make...
Law (thinking): They actually want to help the children?... but why? They're not friends with them like with that fishman and mermaid on Sabaody... are they saying this just on a whim? Anyway, I can't lose the main goal from sight, keeping Mugiwara-ya safe is the priority.
To understand Law's odd reaction here we need to go back to his flashback:
Because when he told the nun and the children that he doesn't want to leave without Lammy, they just told him they will leave him behind on his own (but will return for him later on). That's why he expects that Nami wants to stay behind by herself. But Luffy's isn't having any of that, Luffy's like "no one is getting left behind on my watch". And no wonder really, because Luffy also knows how it's like. After all didn't Garp and Dragon leave him behind on his own as well, choosing to pursue their jobs instead? But Luffy does not want others to feel the same way he did.
Law's shocked "?!" there really says volumes. He probably didn't expect that option of "not leaving anyone behind" as even possible. We will see him struggling to accept it later on as well in this arc.
Law (thinking): Wait a second... How did that turn out this way?!
Because let's rewind a bit. Law's just reached his inner peace with the dificult decision that he's gonna sacrifice the children's fate in favour of keeping Strawhats safe. But here Luffy makes a 180 turn on him and tells him "Actually, we're saving the kids and there is this funny samurai as well, we also want to reassemble him". And Law is like TrafalgarLaw.exe stopped functioning, please reboot. He thought he made it clear this is not the time to be altruistic and has a difficult time to process this illogical conclusion. You were too lost in your own thoughts, that's why you missed it, Law.
Law (thinking): Friends?! What?! Whatever, put that thought aside for now, more importantly... those conditions for the alliance are ridiculous! Also it would totally be something I would want to do and make it a condition, if not for the fact I think it's impossible to pull that all off.
Usopp (thinking, surprised): Luffy was right, he's actually a good guy!
Luffy (thinking): I knew you would help us!
Law (thinking): You must be kidding me, what kind of pirates are so altruistic. Great, now I have even more troubles to deal with. And yet I can't refuse them.
Law (thinking): No, anything but this...!
I'm so sorry for him in this one, tbh. Can't make it look funny anymore, I'm sorry! (but if you really want to, then the classic "Am I a joke to you?" commentary is usually spot-on) At least it was Chopper and I think Law is okay with touching animals and minks.
Luffy (thinking): Torao, you come up with the best ideas! This sounds so fun!
Law (thinking): I'm actually not gonna allow you to rethink. You need to stick with me so I can keep you safe.
(my god Torao)
Luffy: No chance! Good luck getting rid of me now after you offered friendship to me!
(those two, I swear...)
Fun fact: he didn't, lol. Law trusted him with this, but Luffy told them all only after they boarded the Sunny lol. Ouch, Luffy!
Luffy's safety is constantly on his mind, isn't it... and he's taking the most work on himself as well. Also can you try to think of anything else for a change, Trafalgar Law?! I know you're super duper worried but, come on...
Yeah, I know Law, right? You try so hard to keep him safe, and he goes and does some ridiculous shit again. And so the neverending spiral of worrying and suffering because of it continues for Law, lol.
Luffy (thinking): I will make you proud, Torao! Just watch me kidnap that guy in a few secs!!
Robin (thinking): Luffy is so excited, not sure if it's because of the plan or that Trafalgar. Probably the latter, actually, he just ignored the plan after all...
He's adorable but omg, they miss the marks all the time when it comes to each other, don't they. It's pure romantic comedy!
The end result is to be expected haha. Law's eyes are like constantly on Luffy lol. At least Law's not so anxious and worried anymore, because fake cuffs are part of his backup plan, so things are going okay for now.
Luffy is instantly interested in Torao's connection to Joker. He just wants to know more about Law, circumenstances be damned, because who cares they're locked up, right.
Law (thinking): Really? You ask about it now?! Fine, whatever, I will tell you... it's not like I can hide it from you forever.
He's not really that great at lying to Luffy, is he? Unless he just sold him a half-truth, but it doesn't appear to be this way. Alliance is all about trust after all, right? (Law says that in Wano) And Law is a bit uncomfortable sharing his connection to Doflamingo, but he does it anyway.
Luffy is so easily impressed with Torao, and it makes it even funnier that it's for all the wrong things really lol. Though it's understandable because when Ace died he got a big hole in his chest and couldn't survive, so in Luffy's mind anyone who can actually live despite that might be like the strongest person ever in his mind (stronger than Ace even?!). It's ridiculous, cute and actually a bit touching. I doubt Law understood it right lol, he's just lying there in disgrace.
Law (thinking): You will pay for this! Especially for making me look so pathetic in front of Mugiwara-ya!
Also Luffy please stop staring at Law like this all the time and close your mouth. He's so infatuated with him.
Law's face here is kinda hilarious, listening to Robin's and Luffy's talk about Kinemon's legs. Is he thinking something like "Interesting, you like it that much? I could do it for you all the time actually... I can do so much more, in fact"
Please someone shut them up.
Change of tone. As soon as Luffy's so worried and stressed, Law becomes all serious and worried as well. You can't make this shit up.
Showing off in front of Luffy lol. You actually want him to think you're cool, don't you, Law?
Luffy: Omg you're so cool Torao! I thought we're goners fr!
And guess what, it's working like a charm. Oh, Luffy!
Luffy adoring Law again, his eyes are almost sparkling here :D he tries to show off a little as well there heh. It's like "Torao, I'm so impressed with you, so be impressed with me and my crew as well!!"
Law, when not ordering people around: "is there anyone in here who can do x or y?". He's really not used to this "equal alliance" thing either, isn't he? Because that's such an awkward thing to say. Is this first ever alliance for him as well? Perhaps all other arrangements he had was just Law giving people orders.
That would mean this is first alliance both for Luffy AND Law awww. Oda, stop, I'm cringing! There's no way Law did it just for Luffy, right?...
Law making Luffy laugh on purpose will never stop having a special place in my heart <3 because you know he said this just for that. He doesn't yet care much about the others, but he sure af cares for Luffy. Perhaps he joked a bit because he didn't want to see Luffy so anxious like before when worrying about his crew geezas stop.
Someone's showing off again and it works like a charm. Can you stop making it such a show ffs, Law. No you can't, you're just having too much fun seeing Luffy so obviously impressed.
I mean... anyone still doubting Law loves Luffy after this image would have to also doubt Law ever loved his little sister, you know?
Also he's really not very honest, is he. Still not gonna admit it openly, acting cold and keeping his distance, despite the fact Luffy is already holding a dear spot in his heart. I know Law has predisposition for being serious and secretive, like that's just legit part of his personality, but he also clearly doesn't want Luffy to know how he actually feels about him.
Damn, Punk Hazard is long. I wonder if I can finish it with the next post haha. To be continued!

Laying something new out for ya here... This is just a silly AU
But AU with a girl sanji who is very androgynous because 1. Those suits hide her curves very well and she isnt that big chested 2. She has short hair because she likes it better then that but also one time when she was like 10 Zeff accidentally fucked her hair up and she had to go short- and the style just kinda stuck. 3. She has a deeper voice that can pass as a higher guys voice because of the smokes And 4. Canon sanjis behavior is already a fine mix between masculine and feminine so its not that suprising
So when she joines the strawhats none of them fucking know she's not actually a guy and she also just... Doesnt bother mentioning it to them (i kinda love the idea that SANJI also doesnt realise that they dont know, theyre all idiots)
So when they give her a tour of the ship and point to a bed in the mens bunks saying thats her bed she doesnt even blink an eye, she's spend like 10 years around guys at the baratie and sleeping around them is something she's familiar with
And bathing, we all know besides nami robin and sanji the rest barely shower and when they do they just miss each other
Idk just seemed like a funny idea and wanted to hear your thoughts!! When do you think they would realise and how would if play out 🤔 also how longer it plays out how funnier 😭
That's...that would be her luck. That's so funny.
She let Zeff cut her hair once when she was younger and cried afterwards because he cut way too high and had to deal with the emotional fall out of that because it reminded Sanji of her mom's. It's easier to maintain so she just keeps it short. Zeff is surprised she still lets him cut it but he guesses it's already short so he can't fuck it up much more. She wears suits and as she grows up as one of the guys and while she has her own room it's not much and she still has to get used to waking up shitty men in their bunk room because they're running late to prep and shit.
Between, the hair, the suits, the smoker's voice, and the barely A cups she has she's so androgynous. The regulars know, Mihawk who's had her cook his food and serve his wine and Garp who is passing through. After Sanji joins the crew and they defeat Arlong and Sanji is being shown around she doesn't care and just flops in a bunk to sleep. Maybe Sanji doesn't notice at first because she's mostly called Black Leg but she's being referred to as a boy, is being sent to the boy's quarters, is being called mister. She just shrugs it off as it keeps happen.
When they get the Thousand Sunny Sanji still doesn't move into the women's room, there's just more room in the mens room so she's in there, doesn't question it still. When she's in Kamabakka and going through bridal training Ivankov calls her candy boy she is straight up frowning at them and asking what they mean. She's a girl. She gets like B cups after the TS and Ivankov has tried to convince her to stuff her bra or something. She grows her hair out to shoulder length. I think it'd still be hilarious if after the TS no one still knows until Zou/WCI/Wano.
Like on Zou Sanji doesn't confirm or deny anything just promises she'll come back. Everyone is confused about the Princess thing and so when they go get her. She's in dresses through out all of WCI and during the escape as Judge is shit talking her and Luffy is confused about Judge saying all the best things about her and calling her a girl? Sanji says she is a girl, has been since she was born. Chopper knew but didn't disclose it because he thought Sanji was trying to keep it a secret. In Wano it's Luffy running around to all his crew calling Sanji a princess and a girl and has been the whole time they've been sailing.
They're all staring at Sanji, dressed like the men in her yukata as she stares back and tries to get them to answer why none of them except for Chopper knew. She thought she was in the men's room because of her smoking, did she actually have to be in there? Nami and Robin assure her she can move to the women's room. Nami is very excited to play dress up.

God AU Info Sheet
Luffy is the god of freedom. He’s also one of the youngest gods and was not initially taken all that seriously. But, after he knocked thunder god Enel into orbit, they all kinda panicked and realized that oh no this guy is the real deal. Gods are not supposed to meddle in human affairs much outside of keeping them in line, but Luffy does not care about all that. He’s the god of freedom, you think he’s going to listen to some stupid rules? Ha! No.
He is by far the easiest god to summon when you need help. You could leave a half eaten sandwich on an altar and he’ll be there loudly chewing on it before you’ve even finished the prayer. He’ll just be staring at you expectantly while you finish your tale of woe and when you’re done he’s just like ‘wow that guy sounds like he sucks, where’s he at?’. All he asks for in exchange is a feast afterwards. There’s also a chance that he might show up on his own anyways just because he wanted to rock some facist’s shit. Luffy is beloved by the people but loathed by the gods.
Zoro is the god of battle. He isn’t a particularly bloodthirsty god, he cares more about the skill and honor of a good duel. While he isn’t as young as Luffy, he still isn’t considered an old god. Like Luffy, he has a tendency to get involved in human issues due to him wandering the earth in search of a good fight (and also alcohol).
On the polar opposite side of the spectrum from Luffy in terms of how easy he is to summon. You could leave the best sake at an altar and make your case, but on the off chance he shows up it’s entirely a coincidence. He’s the god of battle not directions, okay? It’s gotten better now that Luffy is dragging him around. He’s somewhat respected by humans, but there’s a lot of irritation from his inability to answer prayers. Gods are mostly neutral towards him.
Nami has taken over as the weather goddess since Luffy evicted Enel. She is harsh but fair. While she does expect some hefty offering for being such an amazing goddess, she won’t punish people for not making offerings if they had a legitimate reason for not doing so (like being ravaged by a plague or something). However, if they don’t appreciate her kindness and fail to make offerings after they’ve gotten back on their feet… May the other gods have mercy on them because she certainly won’t.
She listens to every prayer she receives. You won’t see her, but she is there in spirit and is listening closely to what they have to say. Whether or not she’ll help depends on the severity of the circumstances as well as the offering that came with the prayer. Giving good weather is easy enough, but if they want her to fight someone she’ll just point Luffy in their direction. She can fight, but prefers not to. Relatively well liked by gods.
Usopp is the god of mighty strength! Of incomprehensible intelligence! Of sniping! Of- Okay not really. He’s just some guy with incredible charisma and luck that managed to convince people that he’s a god when he isn’t. Despite this, he has some enviable connections. Franky is his main guy after Usopp bragged that they were thick as thieves and Franky decided to just go along with it because he found the whole thing hilarious. Franky helps back him up with his tall tales, but he doesn’t carry him completely. He also earned Luffy and co’s approval after trying to save his home village all on his own.
Usopp doesn’t answer prayers unless he just so happens to be in the area and hears it with his own ears. Obviously due to him being human, he can’t hear the prayers the way a god can. Sometimes he swears he hears echoes of prayers, but literally no one believes him. He is telling the truth though! Unbeknownst to him, his father is actually a god so he’s a demigod, making him able to occasionally subconsciously tap into godly abilities. He just hasn’t figured it out yet. Gods leave him alone for the most part because of his dad.
Sanji is the god of harvest. This guy is very much known for being a pushover. He doesn’t want anyone to starve and that manifests in him bending over backwards to try and keep harvests good every year regardless of how difficult it may be. Due to him being such a pushover, he isn’t that well respected because a lot of people take him for granted. For the most part, only people in agriculture take him seriously.
Since he already does his job regardless of offerings, most people don’t bother giving him any. If they want something extra though, he can be persuaded, but only if the one making the offering is a woman or child. He’ll straight up tune out men. Gods look down on him for being so lenient with humans.
Chopper is the god of medicine… In training. Kureha is currently training him to be a potential successor (not that she’s going to be kicking the bucket any time soon but still). He’s the youngest, and was originally just seen as a monster before he was taken in. Chopper is extremely diligent in his studies and cares a lot about helping people, even if they’re unfriendly towards him.
Due to his status of not being a full on god yet, people aren’t making offerings or praying to him. Kureha answers prayers thoroughly and brings Chopper with her every time, so he is getting a feel for how it works. When he has free time, he’ll lurk around medical/health shrines to try and get to the people praying first on his own so he can get more experience. Gods don’t like him because they see him as nothing more than an animal, regardless of how much work he’s done.
Robin is the goddess of knowledge. The people that respect her are few and far between, and that includes the gods. Humans don’t pay her much mind because they can just learn things for themselves, why should they make offerings to her? Plus there’s the fear that she knows too much about dangerous things, this sentiment is shared by the other gods. She knows all languages and has a perfect memory.
On the extremely off chance that she actually receives an offering or prayer, you best believe she’s answering it. Even if it’s something outside of her jurisdiction, she’ll find a way to make it work. While most gods dislike her or even wish her dead, she has found great friends with Luffy and his entourage.
Franky is the god of innovation. There’s never a dull moment for him with all the crazy inventions he throws together like it’s the easiest thing in the world. It’s 50/50 if the invention is going to be legitimately useful or if it’s going to be some crazy nonsense he made just because he could. He’s an extremely good natured guy but he does have his limits, with his biggest pet peeves being intentionally shitty craftsmanship and people who get in the way of innovation. After overhearing Usopp name drop him like their besties, he decided to listen in on him more and found himself appreciating the level of audacity it takes to pull off what he has. That combined with Usopp’s skills for inventing led to Franky taking him under his wing.
While his actions are very appreciated, his eccentric personality and appearance can be more than a little off putting for humans. He gets offerings and prayers regularly, but only from select people that admire him. Franky loves a challenge and to keep busy so he almost always responds if he isn’t already working on something. On a related note, if he catches someone defacing/disrespecting one of Robin’s shrines, he’s throwing hands. And bombs. Gods find him a little obnoxious but don’t hate him or anything.
Brook is the god of performances. Music is his specialty but he enjoys a good theatrical performance as well. He is an ancient god, from back in the days when they almost never interacted with humans. Gods aren’t even all that friendly towards each other, so this was a very lonely time for him. All he would do was perfect his skills in isolation because that’s what everyone else did. Seeing all these younger gods being so in touch with humanity truly inspired him and now it’s rare to not see him in the company of humans.
People who don’t respect the arts typically don’t make offerings, but those who do make offerings and prayers around the clock so they can be blessed with even a fraction of his skills. Brook loves to spread his talents far and wide, so he always makes an appearance now. He doesn’t magically bestow anything on them, they just more or less have a jam session where he gives them some pointers. He was well respected amongst gods because he was once seen as one of the greats, but now they look down on him for spending so much time with humans.
Jinbei is the god of the sea. Like Brook, he’s also one of the ancients. Being around for as long as he has has made him weary, but Luffy is making him find joy in life again. Jinbei is very respected by humans, but it’s more out of fear than anything. The sea is a fierce and often unforgiving entity, and Jinbei can only do so much to control something as massive as an ocean. The fearful responses he receives from people definitely gets to him, but he doesn’t really know how to fix it.
People give him offerings constantly to try and keep the ocean tame, but outside of taking control of a small area for a limited amount of time he can’t do that much about it. Tsunamis are outside of his realm of control, and so are sea kings and other sea life. While he does listen to the prayers, they can blend together thanks to the sheer quantity of them. He feels guilty for not being able to do more, so he doesn’t lash out if people don’t make offerings. However due to the nature of the ocean, it can seem like he does. The gods respect him a lot, but are more than a little nervous to see him hanging around Luffy all of a sudden.

Hey i have a little question about your Tiger Zoro Au but first I just have to say I absolutely love this idea your giving me so much serotonin right now!!!
My question is that pre time skip was Zoro a skinny and long tiger? Then in post time skip he looks like those tigers that has hella muscles? How would the crew react to muscular Tiger Zoro? Also (if it’s not to much to ask) how would each of the crew members react to Zoro changing into a Tiger the first time around?
Sorry if this is to many questions i just absolutely love this AU and I kinda wanna see more and your art for this is amazing!!!
Sorry for the wait! Thanks so much, that’s so great to hear!! 😭🙏 I'm more than happy to oblige, and no worries, there’s never too much questions about tiger!Zoro, you guys give me so many more fun ideas than I could ever come up with myself. So keep it coming, actually!!
Now for the post timeskip look, I’ve actually got two ideas. The first is the mentioned monster muscled ripped-as-fuck tiger, which is hilarious on it’s own already:

(Not pictured: poor Franky having an aneurysm over the scratch marks on deck everywhere)
Maybe I'll make a seperate post on each of the Strawhats reaction to seeing Zoro change for the first time! For now though, Luffy of course thinks everything about it is awesome. He will not shut up about it and asks Zoro if he can do the most ridiculous things in tiger form, which Zoro sees as fun challenges. (If anyone's got any other crazy ideas Luffy might ask of him let me know haha)
The other post timeskip look idea is that he just. Grows bigger. In actual size. He just becomes a Huge tiger. This makes no sense but who cares (it’s One Piece after all) and Chopper is able to grow a few sizes in seconds, so I think he should be allowed a few extra meters. If only because it’s cool as hell.
Size difference would be something like this:

The only thing is though, his tiger form grows in size everytime he grows in strength, so potentially there's nothing stopping him from growing 'till fucking Enormous
#zoro#roronoa zoro#tiger zoro#weretiger zoro#tiger zoro au#one piece#one piece art#op fanart#like i don't want him to outgrow the sunny yknow!#there has to be a limit somewhere#i love that everyone is having as much fun with it as i am.. so many new followers! HELLO#please dont be discouraged by me taking a month to reply (sorryyy) everyone yall can send me every question you have#i love thinking about and expanding this au#please feel free to join in#also in case its too unclear/small/scribbly:#the disturbed club is usopp/sanji/nami and the ones big zoro is carrying on his back are chopper/luffy/usopp#tiger art#tigers#fav egg

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH hi how are you!
I was rereading SSSBMTY for like the 10th time and Ive been dying to know that if Robin is really the only one who knows that Ed died somehow because bestie told her- but like did Robin take that seriously?? Did Robin hear “oh yeah I was the only one who died teehee” and took it in a “mental death” or a “physical death” way. If she took it in a mental perspective which I guess makes the most since does Robin realize the implications of Ed “dying” and somewhere in her head is super worried for Ed?
Some people in the story know about the “Buster Call” that TOTALLY (didn’t) happened but we’ve only really seen Robin, Zoro and Nami question it… I guess kinda Law with him comparing a Robin and Ed but not intense questioning. and now that Ed has done their screaming match with Kidd does Kidd and/or Killer have any suspicions of what they actually meant by being so connected to death???
AHHH ED YOUR KILLING ME NO PUN INTENDED?! I like death metaphors if you cannot tell- I want to squeeze you to get this information out.. is everyone just not questioning Ed’s weird background and possible death that they haven’t been super secret about?!?!
I wrote this while having a brain freeze bc of a smoothie
Reading SSSBMTY 10 times is crazy I hope you know that. I love you but I hope you know that.
When they're all on the Tower of Law Robin makes it clear she took it very metaphorical, like she interpreted that as Ed intentionally viewing the person they were before the 'Buster Call' as someone who was dead and gone and not who they were anymore. Honestly I think Robin took that and what Ed said after about them both belonging to the crew as Ed somehow just being better adjusted than her, which is fucking hilarious if you think about it.
I've always had the thought floating around that because Luffy got mad at Nami way back at the beginning when she tried to ask Ed about it she took that as 'no one ever ask Ed anything EVER' and has just instilled that idea whenever they get a new crewmate lmao. Like she sits them down and goes "Ok so Ed is weird and has terrible things in their past but Do Not Ask Questions if you think the dramatic violin music will start playing, ok?" even if that's Not the Case.
That isn't confirmed canon I'm just putting that out there. You gotta wait and see if I write that into the story lmao.
Tbh Zoro doesn't give a shit about whatever happened to Ed because he thinks they've got — if not a good handle on it — at least a decent ability to see help/comfort when they need to. His ass has seen them cope worse with things that actively happen around them then whatever was going on with the 'Buster call,' and is content to leave it alone unless Ed directly asks him for help. (Which is also very funny if you think about Ed's 'if you ask I will tell you EVERYTHING' policy.)
Now with Kid and Killer it's more so they have no idea what is up with this weird little guy but it seems like they've got some, uh, ISSUES with the people around them or they themselves being hurt/killed by someone with a dream and no regard for casualties. Wonder how that will develop if they hear about the 'Buster Call' thing or any other weird rumor they might have accidentally sent floating around.
Overall Ed speaks in weird backwards metaphors enough there's a chance no one has ever taken a single word they've said at face value, so.... yeah.
I hope your brain is ok xoxo

Long Ring Long Land here we go!! I try to be more positive than negative during my read, but nothing is above criticism and god do I have problems with this arc

But before that, we get one last look at Cricket, a lovely conclusion to the Skypeia saga. The beginning of the arc in itself is actually pretty good!
We also get the second appearance of Doflamingo. Jaya already set him up as an unhinged guy with a weird power that forces people to act despite their wishes, and I love it when one piece villains don’t have their powers revealed from the beginning letting us think for ourselves. My personal idea when I first saw him was a fruit that turned people into puppets

He goes on about a New Era, disposing of Bellamy, who has been nothing but loyal to him, and like I said before with Crocodile, it works to set him up as a man who sees his underlings as tools to be used
Enough about Doffy, let’s go back to the Straw Hats:

The beginning of their adventure on Long Ring Long Land is pretty funny, the long ass animals are hilarious, the world building about how the island works is cool, and I love the little moments between the old man and his horse

Unfortunately, the second Foxy appears things start going downhill. The introduction of the Davy Back fights is important, but because of Foxy being a pretty nothing character, with the occasional funny gag, and his crew being absolutely unmemorable, the arc feels kinda,, empty?? I don’t know how to exactly say it but I just don’t feel any of the usual excitement or urgency, and I haven’t felt it while originally watching the anime either

The jokes are fun tho so the arc definitely has comedy going for it, and Luffy FINALLY punching Foxy to oblivion is such a cathartic moment because Foxy IS SO ANNOYING

Good thing, just like the beginning, the very ending of the arc is really good, with the introduction to Aokiji, and Robin’s character arc winding back up again, one that had been set up way back in Alabasta, and I’d call this the true start of the Water 7 saga

Speaking of what’s to come in this saga, Usopp is currently having doubts about whether or not he’s cut out for all of this, which will result in one of the most gut wrenching moments (for me at least) in this entire series
#one piece#op reading corner#long ring long land#foxy one piece#nico robin#usopp one piece#donquixote doflamingo#aokiji#honestly by anime standards it’s a good arc#scratch that#by media standards in general it’s pretty good#it’s just that one piece has such good arcs that this is the worst one for me#it doesn’t help it’s squished between skypiea and water 7

Finished Whole Cake Island. Spoliers. In no particular order.
Thoughts:
Since Fish Man Island, the damn crew can't stay together for more than two minutes. It feels a bit just Oda's writing style. But it also feels like a handicap for the crew. Cause if they're all together, they'd be too strong or something. Missing the full crew antics though.
Luffy messing up the cooking immediately into the journey reminds me back to him yelling at Arlong of all the things he can't do and why his crew is important.
Are the straw hats actually that dumb they fell for Pudding's act? Like. Come on guys. You're in enemy territory, trust no one.
Just, poor Sanji. This sweet boy had such good intentions with leaving the crew to settle this shit. And then it's one thing after the next with getting backed into a corner.
He genuinely could have made a life with Pudding. And been happy. Them baking shit together every day. And then she had to be a bitch. Him crying in the rain got me crying.
His sister could have told him way sooner the bracelets were fake though. Like come on. Why switch them if you're not gonna tell him.
Fuck Germa. That shit coded and just.... fuck them.
Love when Nami's evil pirate queen side comes out. Using the vivre card to control the forest. Distracting, using, and eventually straight up stealing Zeus. Like anyone who shits on her can sit the fuck down. She's great.
Brook is underrated. Yes his power is clutch against Big Mom's soul soldiers and such. But him fighting and getting not just the road ponegliff but all three that they had. Beautiful.
Hilarious using random people to continually call out that's not how bodies work, when they do something stupid to heal or just isn't biology.
The wedding is utter beautiful chaos and I loved every moment of it.
Big Moms backstory. She ate people?! The people she loved?! Did not see that one coming. Very surprised. ALSO does that mean anyone could eat someone to gain their fruit? Or did she like eat her whole and that's the only way? Or cause it's the soul fruit it could be passed that way? Questions.
I love when the crew gets to use their skills. Sanji knowing how to recreate the cake and making one that is deadly delicious is fun. I wish they did this more. Like Chopper used his medical knowledge in the Thriller Bark fight and then kinda never again. Do it more!
Sanji making it his business to get Luffy back to the sunny was sweet. His extra retribution for what he put Luffy through.
Sanji protecting Luffy's head while trying to get back to sunny is so freaking precious. I squealed during those panels.
Sad that Pudding felt she couldn't let Sanji remember their kiss. Like why girl?
Kinda really like Bege after all that. His fruit is a little silly but fun. Love a man who loves his wife. One piece could use more romance damn it.
Chiffon's Dad sacrifice had me crying. Dads loving their daughters will hit me in the feels every time.
Fuck Judge. Sanji saves you all, tells you to get lost, you agree, to then show up and yell at him for being a failure. Yes I get it that he wanted to hear from Luffy what made him special, see it through his eyes, but still. Luffy's reaction is hilarious and Jimbei laughing at his reaction is even better.
Mixed feelings with Jimbei. Very strong, yes. Helmsman role is cool, like him appreciating the strength of Sunny. But he better not start doing Usopp shit of trying to play Captain.
Jimbei's crew never leaving and helping them the whole time was sweet. Aladdin and Praline are hot. Smash.
I like Katakuri. He started out a little annoying with the, I can see the future don't even try, attitude. But damn, that fight with Luffy. His respecting him by the end. I like his little backstory with Brulee. I don't think his mouth is that bad either. I'd smash.
Thinking about the length of the battles. Oda definitely did well conveying it but these are hours long. Cool way to show their strength.
Carrot's sulong is cool. That was a good payoff for the minks and the tease of the full moon.
Is Pedro actually dead? He seems actually dead. But we did this in Alabasta. Oda doesn't like actually killing people and it makes sacrifice plays like that less impactful. Sitting here thinking nah he'll show back up in X chapters from now like Oda always does. Ugh Oda.
We learn that Luffy can feel the emotions in things. Which, one, makes so much sense for future mister pirate king, luck of the universe. But, two, every time his crew or friends that left or fought him, he could feel their emotions. Why he has known they were lying and what they were really feeling. Chefs kiss on that one Oda.
This post is longer than I was planning......I miss Zoro, Law, and Robin.
Excited to get into Wano. Almost caught up!

Baratie Arc
I LOVED THIS ARC

Baratie Arc? More like Sanji Arc- Ok ok ok let’s get started.
First of all: New crewmate!!! Sanji is so cool. His backstory was probably the darkest of the crew that’s been revealed so far bc like. Starvation is no joke. ALSO ZEFF CUT HIS OWN LEG OFF TO SAVE SANJI?.?? that’s his dad. Idc who Sanji’s real dad is, ZEFF is his dad.
Zoro’s friends were so funny in this arc too like how are they still alive 😭 I’m glad they’re ok though. Full body iron fist or whatever his name is? He was INTERESTING WHY DID THEY JUST USE HIM TO INTRODUCE SANJI AND GIVE LUFFY A REASON TO STAY AT THE BARATIE FOR LONGER THAN HE HAD TO. BRING HIM BAAAAACK I WANT SANJI TO KICK HIM IN THE FACE AGAIN!!!
Also Mihawk. All hail Mihawk. He’s so great omg I want more Mihawk content and I want it now. He’s my fave he looks so cool I want a poster of him
ZEFF is chill, I like him. He’s funny. The fact that he hits people with his hat while he’s wearing it is hilarious and I love it.
Also idk why but I rlly like Sanji’s shirt. Like- the stripey blue shirt. It’s my favorite thing ever. Also Sanji gets so angry so quickly and it’s absolutely hilarious like he was so calm until Fullbody spilled the soup. He curses so much and I appreciate that.
IM SO CONCERNED ABT THIS CREW BTW CAUSE LUFFY JUST PUNCHED DON KRIEG THROUGH THE SPIKES AND ZORO GOT DESTROYED BY MIHAWK- WHERE IS THEIR SURVIVAL INSTINCT 😭
Also Sanji saving Luffy from drowning 👍 they’re besties now I don’t make the rules
I think Usopp has all their survival instinct at this point
Alright, I might rewatch this arc later, I really liked it! It was cool 😎
Baratie Arc notes (I made these as I watched the arc)
Be warned, this is essentially spam that makes no sense if u don’t remember every little thing that happens in the arc
Why do they have so many limes??? I mean It’s good they had them bc scurvy is no joke but WHY
ALSO THE “hooray hooray!! Hooray hooray!! Hooray hooray!!” IS SO FUNNY
“A certain hawk-eyed man you’re looking for is there” 👀👀👀👀👀 HIM?????
“OUR DESTINATION IS..” IM FINALLY GONNA KNOW HOW TO PRONOUNCE BARATIE OMG-
🧍♂️ “Barateeay”????? What?????
THE MARINES R HERE TOO???? 😭
Oh the iron fist guy is kinda cool tbh.
“They’re an eyesore. Sink ‘em.” DAMN. NVM IG???
I’ve heard OF Arlong before but now I’m actually seeing the wanted poster and Nami is crying??? 😟
Did. Did Luffy just hit the Baratie with a cannonball.
FIRST SANJI SIGHTING IM GOING FERAL AAAAAAAA THERE HE IS!!!!!! ITS HIM!!! I WANT A PLUSHIE OF HIM I CAN THROW AT THE WALL. If I don’t like Sanji’s VA I swear I’m throwing myself into the sun.
He’s great. Sanji is great. So cool. (Also Zeff sounds like a muppet and it’s so incredibly funny that he bonked Luffy with his hat)
“Sorry sir, don’t know really. Looks like he’s floating. Then again, it kinda looks like he’s drowning, but it’s hard to say for sure.” Sanji is so funny I love him
Why did Sanji put his hand in the spilled soup though??? 😭
“The customer is always right”? No. “The customer will get kicked in the face”.
WHY DID LUFFY AND ZEFF FALL THROUGH THE CEILING??
WHY DID FULLBODY SHOOT ONE OF HIS OWN MEN IN THE RESTAURANT??? I AGREE WITH LUFFY THIS RESTAURANT IS CRAZY
Ok wait no it wasn’t Fullbody I got confused.
Sanji is so slay though. He’s so silly.
“I REFUSE TO ACCEPT YOUR REFUSAL” I’m- ????? 😭 this is so good
Sanji stop throwing dishware into the sea 🙏
LUFFY GODDAMNIT WHATS WITH THE DISRESPECT FOR DISHWEAR IN THIS EPISODE
“Finish pouring it yourself” IM SOBBIMG.
Nami scamming Sanji is the funniest thing ever but also like free food is so good so I get it
Don Krieg this Don Krieg that IDC
“I saw things that I couldn’t bring myself to believe” IS THAT MIHAWK??????
IT IS!!! IT IS MIHAWK!!!!!!!!
Also Usopp’s scream is great lmao BUT THE LOOK OF TERROR ON EVERYONE’S FACES!!! Mihawk is great :]]]
Also I thought Sanji had a painting of cheese earlier but it’s a map 😭
“Perhaps you interrupted him during a nap” I love that that’s canon in the live action apparently omg Mihawk is great
Why does one of the Don Krieg Pirates just have a shirt that says ‘war’ on the back??? 😭
What’s with the freaky green candle??? OH ITS MIHAWK’S FREAKY GREEN CANDLE. MIHAWK MY FAVE. HES SO COOL. Also I didn’t mention this earlier but why do the cooks have giant cutlery weapons???
Anyways Mihawk :]
Oh WOW he cut that boat clean in half. They’re gonna need some flex tape.
WAIT NAMI STOLE THE GOING MERRY??? HUH???
also Mihawk’s little ship is so funny why is he using candles in the ocean 😭 how did his boat not sink??? So many questions HIS BOAT IS SHAPED LIKE A COFFIN HES SO GOTH
Where is this man’s shirt. 🧍♂️
“Just killing time.” MIHAWK. I’m a Mihawk stan now istg.
Mihawk is so cool, also how in the world did he win that fight with a tiny dagger??? Also the ‘I’m afraid I don’t carry any smaller blades’ WOW
JESUS CHRIST THEY WERENT KIDDING WHEN THEY SAID SANJI ALMOST STARVED. Also that pearl guy is weird.
I love how much Sanji curses omg. ALSO GIN IS SUPER STRONG???
“He’s our cool-headed cold-hearted pirate fleet chief commander Gin.” Why. Why was that sentence so long.
I like Sanji’s stripey blue shirt. It’s cool. It’s a wonderful blue shirt.
“Say, have you ever heard of the All Blue?” IM SCREAMING HE S SO EXCITED TO TALK ABOUT IT.
YOSAKU,,,,???? HOWD HE GET EATEN BY A SHARK AND HOW IS HE ALIVE (Also the chefs loving Sanji’s soup 😭)
Why does Sanji have a suitcase of kitchen knives.
ALSO SANJIS BACKSTORY NEEDS TO STOP MAKING ME CRY
#one piece#one piece baratie arc#one piece east blue saga#should I do music recs with these? that’d be fun#galewingcomments

The Knuckles Show was on nickelodeon this week, so I got to watch it for free without resorting to other means for once.
I can understand the overall mixed reactions. I definitely enjoyed it, but I will say that it's less of a Knuckles show and more of a Wade Whippler show.
More under the cut:
It watches a lot like one of those Will Ferrell comedies with a dash of Knuckles and a mix tape someone REALLY wanted to use. Thankfully, I like stupid comedies. The dryness of Knuckles being a mentor to the dork that is Wade is funny, the costumes and rock opera are great and silly, and Knuckles learning about Jewish culture kinda came out of nowhere, but it's still a hilarious take.
Add that to the cultural mixing pot that is Knuckles the Echidna- Jamaican colors and inspiration in his shoes, implied Central American heritage (The Sonic Adventure depiction of his ancestors especially), jokingly claimed often by black people (as my black friends have told me) for his music in SA and SA2, the symbol on his chest being the Nike symbol- thus adding Greek to the mix, echidnas are native to Australia, and now? In the words of Momma Whippler: "He's basically Jewish." Keep adding more to the guy. Let's add some Indian, German, and Chinese to the mix. Unironically, it's enjoyable to see a character resonate with so many cultures.
I do understand why game and comic fans probably take issue with the show- they were probably expecting Rouge the Bat or Team Chaotix to make an appearance, maybe even Chaos Zero or Angel Island and the Master Emerald to be plot significant. I'll even say that I'm a bit miffed at how they gave Knuckles "The Flames of Disaster," aka the title that Iblis from Sonic 06 goes by, in which Knuckles had near 0 interaction with.
However, it's kind of expected when you compare it to the Sonic movies prior. Sonic is normally cool, but in the movies he's a quip slinging dork and a pop culture fanatic. Knuckles isn't a fierce warrior from outerspace in the games, he's the Guardian of the Master Emerald and occasionally one of Sonic's closest friends, sometimes a himbo and quick to anger. Eggman hasn't been called Robotnik in the west since 1 throwaway line in Adventure 1 as far as the games go, and he's not nearly as fun or charismatic as Jim Carrey Eggman. The Master Emerald is a whole other basket of worms to look into.
All of this being understood, the Live Action timeline is an entirely separate continuity- a product made not entirely for game fans, but to be consumed in a simpler format for an audience that either vaguely heard of the franchise, parents of people that were into it, or fans that sort of fell out after the 90s tv shows to 2000s. It's not just the audience it's targeted at, but probably the audience that MADE it as well. The majority of the audience- in their mind, probably parents forced to watch with their kids- probably wouldn't want a super serious story about Knuckles, but those people probably will enjoy the classic rock callbacks or the humor put in.
It's a basic issue with live action versions of franchises in which slightly out of touch writers try to adjust the source material to be more palatable to a "normie" audience. Detective Pikachu did it when they claimed "Mewtwo is the strongest Pokemon" when game fans could list plenty of Pokemon that could literally wipe it out of existence via lore or via in game stats alone. One Piece Live action did it by making Luffy more of a wise cracking character, taking away the "Wii Music behind his eyes" if that makes sense. These and the Sonic live-action series are fun, mind you, and at least are more respectful compared to disrespectful ones like Dragon Ball Evolution or Death Note's Netflix movie.
Of course, there's also budget. Guys, it was a 6 episode streaming service show. It's not going to have movie budget to animate Knuckles or make more cgi characters for every scene. That's the real reason the show was more about Wade than anything- budget.
There's 1 more thing to consider: the director for the Sonic movies seems to have the top priority of making sure the cast has fun making this, if the bonus scenes of Sonic 2 are anything to go by. The actors probably haven't played much of the more story heavy Sonic games, but they do know that these characters are fun to work with and the acting gig is fun because of all the zaniness that goes on. Maybe it's not the most loyal to the source, but it IS fun for the people working on it.
So all of this in consideration, it's kind of childish to look at this and expect some grand epic that abides by the games, and even more childish to expect comic book canon (don't forget Ken Penders fucked that up for everyone, so its now a legal issue) when that's not the type of people making it, being targeted, or the type of budget they have. Is it a cash in? Sure, but it's at least a fun one.
I mean, I can't hate it. Look
They remembered that hat from the Sonic OVA

They care enough to make it fun, and that means something to me, you know?
That being said, if I have to voice my own issues, I'd say this:
1. The Flames of Disaster in this format feels a tad disrespectful to Silver's timeline, given that Iblis, aka "the flames of disaster," was a demon that engulfed the world in fire and blotted out the sun. I know they probably just thought "oh this comes from 'the worst game of all time,' it's no big deal, who cares, everyone hates it lol" and didn't really mean anything by it, but still. It also kind of makes Blaze the Cat feel redundant since fire is her whole thing- there's no chance she or Silver will ever make it to the Live Action universe, so I guess they don't have to worry about that. I am a bit miffed, but I understand.
It might have done better to have him obtain his famous level up items, like shovel claws and hammer fists and such, rather than turning a powerful enemy into a mere power up. It's a bit like taking Trigon from DC comics and giving his powers to Batman, if that makes sense.
2. The soundtrack is fun, but I think they missed an opportunity by not including some rnb, hip hop, or rap, and probably focused more on classic rock to appeal to a more neutral, older, white audience- aka something a bit safe without ruffling the "I hate rap" crowd. I mean listen to SA2's Knuckles' levels: Wild Canyon, Pumpkin Hill, Aquatic Mine, Unknown from M.E. both og and sa2, c'mon man. Classic game tunes imo (Hunnid P's awfulness aside, covers are a thing and he merely provides the vocals), and honestly would have been fun to see and hear at least referenced. It's not mandatory, but music more closely matching his style in the games would have been nice to have included.
Knuckles having a "I must meet this 'Snoop the Dog!'" moment would have been hilarious, and honestly I'm surprised the chuckleheads on the writing crew missed that opportunity.
3. It's probably a budget issue, but the final fight scene should have been longer, and there should have been a scene where Maddie asks why Knuckles was in Reno when he should have been "grounded." It felt slightly rushed in a way that could have been prevented if they managed time and budget better.
Otherwise it's a fine show. It's more of a parody or a "hey you got your anthro cartoon echidna in my silly pg13 comedy" situation, but it did make me smile and laugh. Knuckles being a Julia Roberts movie fan is just hilarious.
Other things I enjoy is just how respectful Knuckles is to other cultures- he doesn't mean to be as impolite as he comes across, he just doesn't quite get it, you know? But he picks up on customs and things like a sponge, and it's hilarious to see him adjusting to life- drinking coffee straight from a coffee pot, eating bread at a bar and talking to mascots as if they're real, and being a supportive friend for Wade but not quite understanding NOBODY talks like him is just hilarious.
Also the practical effects and props/prop comedy is impeccable. Wade going through the kitchen after it's been wrecked to hell and the fridge falling apart, the motorcycle and bicycle duel, the bowling alley being the battle field- in an industry ruled by cgi, stuff like this makes me laugh harder than anything.
Something else minor I really enjoyed was the mention of a similar bowling tournament incident happening in 1974- aka 50 years ago- is such a small but hilarious addition and nod to Shadow, implying he went bowling or was forced to bowl. It makes me somehow more excited for Sonic 3.
I wouldn't hate the idea of a season 2 overall, or maybe a Tails or Shadow centric show in the future.
7/10 seems like a very fair score. Could have been better, not as bad as a lot of die hards claim it is- and let's be real, some of the hate probably comes from the same type of fans that hated Johnny Boyega in Star Wars, but in this case it's anti semitism instead of racism. It's not "political" to include a culture in a movie or show, just like it's not to include people of certain races in it either.

as stupid as i think a netflix live action of one piece, a famously very cartoonish and incredibly long series, is, i am enjoying watching it. uh putting down a read more but here r my thoughts after 2 & a half episodes.
i don’t know one piece all that well so i can’t speak on how good of an adaptation it is, but i think it’s doing well? visually, apart from the sepia filter, it looks decent as far as a live action one piece could go (which is still a weird thing to do but). they don’t lean into the ridiculousness enough with some of the characters, i think, but they do have a lot of people who look fucking weird and it’s great.
Buggy was really cool imo? I have no idea if his portrayal in OPLA matches the original tonally, because he’s definitely scary in this, but i imagine w clown who can separate his body parts at will is supposed to be kinda scary. The CGI was definitely weird at points (when his head is in an audience member’s lap it looked really bad) but because most of it is fast-paced action scenes it managed to look pretty cool. The actor was also like, amazing imo. Like, he’s playing an anime clown pirate, some people might be lame and half-ass it, but he’s putting his whole pussy into it. Idk I’m just obsessed with Buggy now, that was so cool.
Shanks looks bad. I thought he looked kinda stupid so I looked up his original design and and it made me think it looked worse. like i know you can’t cast someone who is just like, a cartoon shape, so i can overlook the body proportions, but the wig is TERRIBLE. he doesn’t look cool with it! he’s supposed to be someone we should find cool (i think) and he just looks scraggly. considering his hair is this defining trait apparently i think they should’ve done better.
luffy is great. his actor is amazing, there’s no sort of irritating self-awareness or anything he is fully committing to being luffy who is so hyped about everything ever. i think the casting was great appearance-wise as well, he looks like luffy imo. In terms of Luffy’s powers it’s surprisingly not as bad as i thought it would be? Like it’s still cursed to see it in live action but i think they get away with it with the way they shoot and pace it.
i think they do a similar thing with Zoro’s mouth sword, trying to shoot it and pace it so that they can use it without it actually being unsafe for the actor but also not looking obviously edited in. he obviously doesn’t have it in as much as his anime counterpart does, bc you can’t actually talk with a sword in your mouth, but they still have him fight with it. Again, it’s one of the many things where it’s like “ok this is probably a sign you shouldn’t have done a live action adaptation of this series, but you did a good job with it considering”
btw I know Alvida or uhhh whatever her name was was bad but honestly that was cool and pretty girlboss of her.
also captain morgan’s son didn’t look stupid enough imo. even when he got the bad haircut it didn’t look bad enough. idk his name i don’t think they’ve said it.
i am glad they have usopp looking like a normal human person bc that would be a terrible look to have the black major character look especially wacky, especially since the eyebrow guy doesn’t have his eyebrows, and his design and some other characters’ designs are kinda what have turned me off of one piece? like the length is the primary factor but also the kinda racist-looking design of a major character (as well as others) isn’t helping. i am disappointed that the eyebrow guy doesn’t have his eyebrows though bc that would be hilarious.

All mainly one shots. Archive of Our Own and FanFiction.net. I think about 4 of the rec’d fics have more than one chapter. Each fic is good nonetheless. All completed. I can recommend non-completed if anyone is interested.
I really recommend the following:
Unexpected Relief by TianaBlackwell123
This fic showcases how hard Usopp is on himself, and how he struggles with asking for help. A lot of self-blame and low-self esteem is internalized. It portrays how much of a good friend (and captain) Luffy is to Usopp. You can really feel how Usopp feels. Luffy’s emotional intelligence shines here.
Regret by Kazima Kuwabara
This fic depicts how Usopp still feels extremely bad about what happened during Water 7, and is willing to sacrifice himself (for the crew) to pay for his past hiccups. Further showcases how much of a family the Strawhats are to each other–especially Usopp. (The author is really good at writing an empathetic portrayal of Usopp).
Among Monsters by Pixi04
This fic showcases Usopp’s insecurities, and how he hasn’t “kept up” with his crew mates. But he comes to find that he isn’t right at all. Depicts the use of Usopp’s bad a$$ observation haki.
He’s a Wonderful Sniper by Chandlure
This fic is like a Christmas special. It’s sort of a “what-if Usopp never joined the crew” take on A Christmas Carol.
History Repeats Itself by Chandlure
Some good ol’ father-son reuniting. Yasopp and the Red Hair Pirates come across the Strawhats, and Usopp has fallen ill.
Let It Out by Kazima Kuwabara
Usopp is almost harmed (in a not so great, hard to think about way), and after the crew save him, he struggles to reconcile with how scared he was; in utter denial. Nakama-is-family vibes.
Pages of Love & Loss by Chandlure
This author is great at Usopp family-lore AND at emphasizing Usopp’s strengths.
What if Yasopp isn’t Usopp’s dad?
The Love Life of Lady Longnose by crackerjackermackeral
A female-Usopp is so cute to read about. Various one shots that depict female-Usopp and her potential male admirers. Each chapter is a stand-alone one shot, with a specific pairing. (Re-imagines some of Usopp’s character defining moments like Dressrosa).
Ace’s Memento by Anonymous
Ace falls head over heels for a specific sniper. There’s a twist.
Blame Me by HelloThere3306
Nami-Usopp BFF-ship is super real here. But Nakama-is-family vibes are a nice touch as well. The East Blue 5 dynamic is sweet here. Usopp gets injured due to Nami’s negligence, and she’s torn up about it.
Familiar Fear by CBM_NotWeedGuys
I love this author’s writing style. Very much their own, and they write the Usopp-Yasopp dynamic well. This fic is funny and hilarious because it depicts how maybe, very much maybe, Usopp gets his fear from the pirate whom he calls Dad.
The Truth in Our Lies by CaptainJoJo
This fic made me legit cry. Usopp is so hard on himself, and just wonders what the heck he’s even doing anymore when he’s on board with his not-so-normally-human crewmates, and he, himself, is just…some guy. The monster trio rock here. The ending is so sweet.
It’s kinda like a “we didn’t handle Usopp and Luffy’s argument at Water 7 right the first time, so we’ll be the pillar’s of strength that we truly are for the crew, instead of doing nothing” do-over for Sanji and Zoro.
To sail the end of the sea (with you) by alliumnoblade
Not necessarily Usopp-focused. But he’s in the fic, and seen through the eyes of a low ranking marine. I love it when marines look at Usopp like the bad-a$$ he really is. Also depicts that rare Nakama-ship I never knew I needed more of until now.
On Tools and Friends by xiwiO1
Robin and Usopp have a unique friendship/relationship. Their dynamic is showcased wonderfully here. Post -Water 7. Robin is so caring. Dressrosa got something right…hmmm?
i swear i’m not sad anymore by PapyrusAdvance
Usopp comes back to Syrup Village (along with the crew), and reunites with his old friends. Very hilarious and warm. The way Kaya interacts with everyone (the crew) is very significant. I love everyone here. Especially Luffy and Sanji. Usopp is the center of attention like always (and as it should be).
The Story Teller by moonbird
A nice little one shot that showcases Usopp’s knack for storytelling, and the crew watches. The writing may be a little juvenile. But its heart is in the right place, and tbh, I actually like this author’s portrayal of Usopp and his friendship with the others. Read more by them. The author gets better.
Showdown! Twelve Shots to the Sniper King by Aemillia
A lovely one shot. The setting and descriptions are very vivid. And some of you might get what you want: Usopp with a gun!
But seriously. It explores a Nakama-dynamic I never knew I needed until now. Still Usopp-POV though. Set Post-Thriller Bark.
Usopp Breaks into Impel Down & Tries to Not Have a Mental Breakdown by Chandlure
The title explains itself. Another Yasopp-Usopp reunion. Usopp-POV. Explores Usopp’s probable bouts with PTSD.
A Sniper’s Challenge by Smudgeandfrank
The writing may be a bit juvenile. But there’s nothing too glaring, nor does it take away from the story.
Basically, Usopp joins a shooting competition so the crew can earn money. As proven again, Usopp’s an even better shot with a gun. And some people are just sore losers. After all, no one knows he’s the son of Yasopp. Nice little cameos, baby.
This is what I thought I wanted (Why am I afraid?) by LoserLife592
This hits me right in the heart. But in a good way. The summary is so sweet. And the introspection is so lovely. People often wonder what Luffy sees in Usopp, and the answer is right here. A tear jerker but in a good way. It’s a happy and uplifting one shot.
This is my go-to tag on AO3.
Ignore this if you've already made a post about it but do you have any recommendations for Usopp-centric fics? Ive read some truly amazing fics from Usopp's pov but id love to find more. Honestly one of my favorite characters to read about. Ship or non-ship honestly any recommendations if you have them please and thank you
People always ask me for my fic recommendations and I am really sad to tell you all that I read fics at 2 am and I only like and comment but I never really bookmark? So I remember fics really clearly but I always forget their names 😭 This post rn is a free space for anybody that wants to recommend Usopp-centric fics tho feel free to do so

Not sure if you have done this yet, but an Au where Usopp and Sanji are brothers because somehow Sanji ended up on Syrup Village after escaping Germa.
Sanji could relate to Usopp losing his mother so young, and it would give them both someone to lean on! Sanji could be his big bro!
Maybe Kaya and Merry took Sanji in as her cook once she found out he had a talent for it and was also orphaned. Sanji would see Kaya like a sister.
Or maybe Sanji still meets Zeff and works at the Baratie, but comes back to visit Syrup Village regularly.
I find Usopp and Sanji's relationship very sweet in canon!
I haven't done one where Sanji ends up just in Syrup Village but I believe @/wellfine did? I could be wrong but I think I remember seeing something about Sanji being a member of the Veggie Pirates? I do have a friend!sanji au where Sanji grew up meeting all the East Blue Crew with Zeff on The Baratie.
I think Sanji escaping the Orbit in fear of being found and being linked to Germa and finding his way to hiding on the mansion's property and being found by Merry could be fun. This random guy finds this random kid who is so scrawny and just brings him into the manor and is like 'uhhh, i found this?' and everyone else losing their fucking minds. Wild. Hilarious. Of course, they feed Sanji and ask him questions and get the answers of him wanting to be a cook and having no family and just trying to find work makes Kaya let him have a job. She's sobbing and it weirds Sanji out a lot. Reiju only cried because she wanted him to be free and he got it so he's staring at this girl a little younger than him and wincing at the noise.
Over time he's introduced to Usopp and they bond over losing their mothers and the three of them being orphans and Merry delights in them all the time. It's adorable. He's adorable. Of course, Sanji can fight too, honing his fighting skills and his cooking skills and indulges Usopp, Kaya, and Merry. He and Merry have a running bet on when Usopp and Kaya will get married. It's a whole thing a decent amount of beri on it. Usopp and Kaya do not know about this bet and they shan't until after the wedding. Maybe on their fifth wedding anniversary the two will come clean. Maybe.
Kaya goes to Sanji with other issues, seeing her as an older brother type of figure who works for her. Sure he lives there like she and Merry do and he loves it, loves them. Sometimes Merry will find them in the morning the blonds asleep in Kaya's bed because they were both having a bad night and breakfast was late so Merry took to cooking for them, something simple. A pot of oatmeal that Sanji has a recipe for with optional additions to add. Also it's insanely detailed for a fourteen-year-old. Merry is frowning every time he reads one of Sanji's cookbooks because there's notes about him, Kaya, Usopp and the other workers. Merry supposes finding him on the grounds and letting Kaya give him a job wasn't the worst thing that's happened but the detail kinda wigs him out.
Then they meet the strawhat pirates and it's a whirlwind of being sucked into one Monkey D. Luffy's crew and fighting Kuro and his gang and saving Kaya and Merry. Afterwards Merry and Kaya convince them to join the crew after Luffy falls in love with Sanji's cooking and likes Usopp's sniping abilities. Kaya gifts them the Going Merry and Sanji is asking his little sister if she's sure. Absolutely, one hundred percent, positively certain that she entrusts them with one of the boats, let alone a boat that beautiful. Kaya is giving him this look of offense he knows is teasing and Merry is trying to keep it together in the background as Luffy is thanking her and so is Usopp and they're so excited to set sail and head to the Grand Line.
