Some modern aus seemed really funny to me — like little details such as the idea that Fitz would probably wear the same jacket and sweater for 30 years, and he'd likely be wearing them in all the few photos of him that exist. So I ended up drawing some fanart. A lot of moments reimagined in a modern setting struck me as really amusing (haha, and anything involving Chade would be even more so). Thinking about modern aus is honestly so much fun!

i read the divytown chapter of ship of destiny last night and am soooooooooooooo obsessed with wannabe pirates wannabe lovers brashen and althea. they just want a life together!! is that too much to ask for robin hobb???? oh.... yes...? okay yeah.... that's what i thought but i just wanted to check.

anyways my take on them!! they saw you from across the bar and absolutely hate your vibe (they're too busy being obsessed w each other rn sorry)

me sitting alone in my apartment after reading fitz finding out his closest friend is no more than a stranger, "alone. it always went back to alone.", realizing that hap is making all of the same mistakes that he did and being not only unable to stop it but shredding his relationship with his son in the process of trying, "i wasn't weeping. this was a pain that went past weeping", dutiful agreeing to go on a death quest (kettricken loosing her husband to the fable of dragons and now her son to the fable of dragons! ha! okay! okay cool! anyone remember "'sacrifice' she said, and i couldn't tell if she was naming her son or describing her life" or is that just me that thinks about that once a week), starling all but calling fitz the f slur, finding out althea is pregnant, nettle being put on the pyre again, again, again, and "but perhaps for a long time, the farseers have asked too much of me"

My latest RotE obsession: I finally re-read the Liveship Traders after 10+ years.

Design choices and mild series spoilers below the cut!

I had fun making this one! Particularly with playing with family resemblances that are mentioned in the book, like Wintrow looking a lot like Althea. I chose to make them both look like Ronica, but to also give Keffria Ronica's black eyes - and Wintrow Keffria's worried brows. I also wanted Althea to look a lot like her father - she's the only one with his nose and almost exact colouring.

Selden and Reyn were harder to draw - both have basically no description other than Reyn's eyes glowing through his veil, and Selden starting to scale after meeting Tintaglia, so I made Selden look most like his father in colouring, but more like his mother in the eyes and nose. Reyn I just decided to have fun with and ignored Grag describing him as "able to walk among Bingtowners unremarked" and instead went nuts with the sort of scaling he probably has in the Rainwild quartet later on.

Brashen Trell accidentally came out looking an awful lot like a friend of mine, but I like it.

Malta, my beloathed, my beloved, was one of the hardest to draw; I wanted her to look young, but also overly made up and dressed more maturely than her years. I also wanted to give her some of her father's colouring - since he favours her most of his children - but also her mother's nose and those Vestrit brows, since she's so much Ronica's granddaughter/heir by the end of the series.

Althea just got offered the perfect man on a platter and shes still thinking about Brashen. There may still be some information about this guy that I dont know that means he actually sucks but from what i know so far... his biggest flaw seems to be that his name is Grag 😭

I just finished Blood of Dragons... I thought this might be a rare Hobb book series where I didn't have to cry as much, but the ending got me. My GOD.

So now a difficult decision is before me. Do I start reading The Fitz and The Fool trilogy soon? Or maybe today? Just binge the last trilogy of this glorious world and wallow in this story?

OR do I reread The Farseer trilogy first? Remember what has come before and delay the inevitable, painful ending? Or maybe do I save my first reread of that first series for when I have finished with the entirety of The Realm of the Elderlings?

I love these books so much 😭♥️

i like althea and brashen both as characters but every time their relationship came up, each of their characters (but especially althea) become SO much more flat and less interesting to me. this especially came to a head in ship of destiny where they were mostly in scenes together and i dunno. the end of altheas arc was just so. well there wasn't really an end to the arc,

I haven't gotten far into ship of Magic but so far: kennit can eat shit, Althea is mildly annoying but I feel very bad for her, I want to protect wintrow at all costs, brashen is currently as interesting as white bread but I'm sure he will get there, Althea's family makes my eye twitch, and I'm begging on my hands and knees for someone to throttle Kyle

Also I miss how sexism wasn't this overt in farseer ;-; I really appreciated it that in the six duchies, women can inherit the throne and are worth no less than male heirs. Women are always worth less than men in fantasy and I really liked not having to deal with that in farseer.
