Alright, so. I've got little time and some ideas, so I'll do a brief thought process on the death of Sherlock Holmes in 1893, and the fandom as a whole.

Firstly, getting this out of the way. Sherlock Holmes was not the first modern fandom. That honor most likely goes to Charles Dickens and his work, especially the Pickwick Papers. There is evidence and record that fan merchandise, like joke books, tobacco, and shoe horns, were made with Pickwick Papers characters, especially Sam Weller.

However, Sherlock Holmes is probably our first instance of a global fandom where consequences quite literally created a literary and cultural firestorm. This isn't an exaggeration.

ACD's relationship with Holmes is... strange. Of course, he wanted to kill off Holmes, and move onto other books. (Historical novels, mainly, or Spiritualist manifesto), but there was always a love hate relationship, and we see that most predominantly through fan letters.

Almost immediately after Holmes’s death in 1893, there was shock. Scandal. Mourning. Fans exchanged letters in newspapers, trying to reach out to other fans to figure out what just happened, and what to do next. Holmes was dead. And for all anyone knew, so was the series.

So how'd they cope?

By creating communities. Discourse communities, to be more apt. They exchanged letters, asked questions, and talked through newspapers. Each one plucked from 1893 and 1894 show grief and confusion: for a fictional character.

People even started seeking out Joseph Bell, the man who inspired Holmes, in order to try to fill the void. There's even record of fans venturing to Reichenbach Falls in costume to pay tribute to their fallen hero. And this kept happening. For years. The world lost not just a character, it was their friend.

Keep in mind! Victorian literature was a family affair. Many people would gather around and read stories and books together, so the firestorm went further.

Until, it made ACD change his mind, and bring back Sherlock Holmes. (Can we call it bullying? Perhaps. I call it a unique circumstance of cultural phenomena.)

So where does it leave the fandom?

Ah, that's the question. This fandom, uniquely, has a distinct honor of being one of the oldest living discourse communities, an exchange of reader response, engagement, and including even more material.

So to the fans: from the fanfic writers, to the game makers, to the cosplayers, to the fans of adaptations near and far, to the editors, to the artists, to the dreamers and thinkers...

It is, given the nature of the fandom, that you are all a part of history, as part of one of the oldest(and still going!) Fandom discourse communities.

Keep that in mind. And keep going. 🙂

When Obito decided to experiment with time-travel, he can definitely say he was not expecting to end up babysitting young versions of both himself and Kakashi motherfucking Hatake. And yet, here he was. (Granted, his expectations had been obliterated a while ago by the very existence of the White Fang's ghost, but if Obito didn't find something to complain about, he might just start breaking things instead.) He didn't know what was worse honestly. The complete ineptitude of the child he used to be more than 20 years ago, failing at even basic shuriken trowing, or - No, yeah, scratch that, the five year old version of Kakashi developing a crush on Obito's child self was absolutely worse. That hadn't happened in his original timeline, right ? That was just a consequence of Sakumo nagging him to try and help Kakashi make friends, right ? Right ?

No but that moment when they were all dancing and Fisk taunted Matt by just casually and quietly talking, seemingly to Vanessa, bc no one except the Fisk’s knows about his hearing.

When Matt and Vanessa danced and he asked whether her husband knows about what she did and she mockingly asked him if Heather knows he‘s Daredevil, then fixing his tie.

When Dex shot Foggy and instead of pushing him away, Dex went for the forehead touch and a pat on the shoulder.

When Matt visits Dex in prison, tauntingly calling him sweetheart, sitting on the table close to him and casually grabbing his hair to make him look up.

They’re so villainously intimate with him, poking him again and again bc he‘s just soo pokable. Its more like a dance or a game, going round after round with him.

Hey, so, I've seen that the latest chapter is a two chapter and I couldn’t help, but ponder: do you think Kurahashi was honest when he told Ebisu that he didn’t find school particularly fun? I mean, we do get flashes of him switching personalities whenever things get serious, but we've also seen him outright flinching when Toubyou grabbed his shirt and called his name (along with him saying that he didn’t want him to find out).

So, do you think he himself is unaware that he finds school fun and that his relationship with the others is real or is more selective denial? Because he seemed to react more strongly for the Toubyou being worked to death in a cell than Kashima being there (I think, don’t remember the exact details)

i think he can be a hypocrite and believe multiple conflicting things at the same time! he almost certainly finds school and having friends fun, but probably also thinks himself "above all that" and hes "just messing around" or "doing it for the mission" or however else he could rationalize it to himself, and also whether he does or does not actually find school fun, the right answer to ebisu's question was some sort of "no", to maintain a good relationship with ebisu

i dont believe in anything like "the stoic personality is how he really is, he's pretending at school (or vice versa)", i think theyre both equally "real" and "not real" in the way you actively choose how you're presenting yourself around other people, how you want them to perceive you.
