In a time when a lot of young men seem to be regressing into misogyny and sexism, the ATLA show "toning down Sokka's sexism" is a very disappointing choice.

Sokka's introduction is explicitly that of a young sexist boy, and the promise of the show is that he will grow out of it.

We as an audience learn this in the first 8 minutes of the first episode, so it's not just a character statement, but a part of the greater message that ATLA has, reinforced by Katara's arc in the North Pole, Toph's character, etc... (not counting Iroh's gross attitudes, cause for some reason that was either ignored, justified or used for comedy ffs)

If the cast members are to be believed, they made the decision to cut a lot of his sexist remarks to fit the realistic tone of the show, which makes zero sense. Sokka's remarks still perfectly reflect the reality, as sad as that is. If realism was the goal, I think they missed the mark.

First off, that's not what age regression is. Age regression is when someone has some kind of mental problem that prevents their brain from developing properly, so they either regress or stay the same age mentally, while they grow physically. I am friends with several age-regressed people, and I won't let you slander them with your bullshit.

It may be a mental condition, but they aren't any less human than I am, so they deserve friendship and chances like anyone else.
