Goths and Autism

Iv noticed a lot of goths (and other alternative people such as emos, metalheads, punks,skaters, ect) have problems like autism, adhd,dyspraxia ect.

A lot of goths that are neurodivergent tend to have learning disabilities, mental health issues , or obsessions on things such as death, animals, the macabre, nature,music,history, horror movies, etc.

They tend to be unsociable due to their problems and can't always follow trends very well (or try not to).

When I was a kid ( many years before I discovered I was goth), I started my fascination with nature by reading animal books, collecting feathers, and loved being in nature.

I also developed an obsession with the fae in my teens.

Also, they end up being social rejects and often targets for being bullied by the popular kids, chavs, sporty kids ect.

They turn to deep, angsty music they can relate to, such as heavy metal, punk grunge, emo, etc.

Alot of alternative people on the spectrum are really friendly so if you meet an alt person on the spectrum. Try be their friend.

They usually make great friends.

ahh thank uu!! and yes i like to think that mall goth and nü-metal are separate but close. i think that fashion wise they are mixed together often but are actually kinda different, for me nü metal is more 90s rap/hip-hop and skater based clothing while mall goth is more on the goth side of fashion while still keeping that baggy clothes kinda look (tripp pants vs jnco jeans). also music wise mall goth is more on the gothic metal or alternative metal side with bands like evanescence, h.i.m, type o negative, later deftones albums, deadsy etc. while nü-metal ofc has elements of rap/hip-hop and rock/metal with bands like korn, earlier deftones albums, limp bizkit, body count etc. but i also feel like people often mix them up as one subgenre calling it either mall goth or nü-metal ignoring the fact that they are kinda different. but honestly theres just alot of sub-subgenres and groups in the mall goth and nü-metal subculture which makes it confusing, anddd im just a nerd when it comes to alternative subgenres so i do alot of research😭

If your characters were to be styles/fashions/music taste. Which one would they be?

Oh I love this question!

I'd say each of them would be different from each other, but to keep this short, I will be focusing on my characters, the operator, the journalist, the observer, and asrar.

I believe the operator would enjoy colors like honey orange/yellow, black, and white to put into her outfits, most commonly dresses, but I can see her wearing a skirt and shirt. The best I describe is that it is almost heavenly like. She is a godess, after all. I find she would like lady gaga alot that is, IF she had an interest in music. So, in short, anything that makes her look or sound divine.

Asrar, he would like any genre of music taste. He'd like punk rock or heavy metal, and with those following in its fashion. He's wild and chaotic, so it fits him just right. There's not much to say about that. It's pretty self-explanatory.

The journalist isn't really tough to describe, more like a grumpy librarian who ALSO would listen to Lady Gaga and some classical as well. For fashion wise, I'd say between robes, sweatpants and a sweater or something in-between. He likes comfortable clothing.

The observer would DEFINITELY be trad goth or something around there, and I see it so clearly. Though I believe they would have a mix of rock and gothic in there for music taste. There like the Dracula of the group that hides in their scary dark castle and shrivels up at any sign of a being of excellence around.

I love the convo that's happening on your blog right now. (I also love your writing) I want to add as someone with a special interest in such things that alot of metal fashion was inspired (or taken from) gay leather and gay biker culture. Actually a lot of alt subcultures were influenced by gay leather culture at some point. From punk to goth to metal- from battle vests to handcuffs to O-rings- queer artists like Judy's Priest brought gay biker and leather culture to the main stage and made those fashions fashionable to people who probably would never have seen it otherwise. As with alot of gay things that get attention, the significance was mostly lost on straight audiences, but they adopted the fashions regardless bc it looked cool or made them feel tough. So it's possible that Eddie's flagging (though the internet doesn't exist yet and they wouldn't exactly have 'guide to gay cruising culture: how to flag' up on the shelves so he would have had to learn from experience and he's a bit young to have enough experience to know 100% unchangingly what he's doing in bed) and it's very likely that he's just imitating artists and people he's seen at metal shows because it's metal fashion. But the Origins remain queer bc queer people make the world go round. (OK. Rant over. I love your writing <3)

God isn't that so good. Its gothic, its so clearly dark cabernet, and its just a hot ass song. Honestly I kinda understand why I was so obsessed with The Last Dinner Party a couple months back.

The actually history of this album is interesting. Its essentially a one-off project by the singer and a few of her friends and they only released this one album. Its also not on spotify and most sources are pretty confused on the track listings. Essentially there is no official digital version of this album online everything you can find is a fan recreation.

I love how I keep falling in love with partially lost media essential. Banger album I need to listen to more goth music.

Since metal and alt music has been in the stream of topics today…heres some cool bands for those of you that like noise!

Stepson- Brisbane punk band. Excellent high energy melodic songs. The Help me Help you album is a staple of my teenage angst. Run, Deeper Sleep and Eraser are all amazing. If you like music that feels like screaming your guts out whilst sprinting down an empty street at night - these guys are it.

Electric Callboy - German. Partycore. These lads blew up over covid for blending rammsteinesque chugging with insanely catchy electronic dance and hardstyle. Their early stuff is alot more pop punk. We got the moves was my gateway into them and I have never looked back. Pump it, Spaceman, Party at the Horror House and Hate/Love are all great songs. (Basically the entirety of Tekkno is nuts) They’ve also just got such a great attitude towards music and are really nice guys.

Void of Vision - Melbourne metalcore. Industrial infused sounds and visuals are what make these guys music slap so damn hard. The Chronicles albums are masterpieces. They also just have one of the best openings live of any show with Ohne sicht. Jack Bergin dresses like if Nosferatu went to a goth rave night. Great songs are Gothika, Berghain and Hell Hell Hell.

Beast in Black - Finnish power metal band. Very reminscent of Judas Priest but with alot of the speed and fun of the 80s hard metal. From Hell with Love and Berserker are both incredibly solid albums that feel both current and also ripped directly out of a few decades ago. Theyre an awesome band if you love power metal and are looking for something current.

Thats a handful of some of my more unheard of big loves. I could list so many more. Music is so important to my life and heavy stuff has my heart. Hopefully someone gets a kick out of this!

(if u dont like hello kitty then pretend its someone else like Melody or Cinnominroll or Kuromi or whatever) i looked into the mirror and i saw..a whole different version of me..dark hair, red eyes, and horns (like tords but longer aka eddsworld character i simp for but ANYWAY-) … what happened to me..? and there was blood on the side of my face then…i felt a sharp pain in my back..and blood came out my mouth and everything darkened….no..i cant..die..Mario.. Peach..Rose…Daisy.. Luigi…? am i.. dying….? then everything went black..

I think as an emo, most of what you listen to SHOULD be emo music. You can listen to any type of music, I do, my music includes alot of Different kinds of rock and Metal, but the majority of what I listen to is Emo.

It's like, as a Goth, most of what you listen to is probably Goth music. As a Punk, most of what you listen to is probably Punk. It's the same with Emo I think.

I am a very introverted person in public. I really don't like drawing attention to myself or socializing. I'm a good listener and advice giver, i'm the therapist friend.my bad traits are that I am moody and blunt. I can get angry randomly for nothing or very sad and unmotivated. alittle bit of a control freak, I just need things to go my way sometimes. i can be a huuuge pessimist, about literally anything. I try to see the brightside, but the bad thoughts never cease to win.

I like anime/manga, true crime, thrifting, fashion and makeup, SOME horror movies, kpop, metal or alt/indie rock, video games, cozy warm things,sweet foods, alternative fashion (including romantic goth, trad goth or scene emo recently!) i dislike bugs, clowns,dolls,hot weather,bright colors, early mornings, salty foods,arguments, any movies that r space related, crowded places/unfamiliar places.

my hobbies include gaming, reading, watching anime/manga, photography (if i ever get my arse up), fashion, window shopping online and sleeping.

my ideal date is something like an amusement park or a picnic in a park. Something that's relaxing or that we can just be ourselves.
