i think the ending of the invisible man is insane. i haven't read the book in a bit so i may get things wrong, but to my understanding, griffin is killed by a mob that kemp summons.

griffin is a terrible person- i think that goes unsaid. he has a god complex, he's a sociopath, he's a murderer, etc. he probably deserved to die (although i did like him so it made me a little sad).

what i find interesting is that the mob was scared. this man is running rampant and you can't see him, you don't know if you'll be next in his hurricane of chaos. so you round up a bunch of people, you try to end him- and you do.

fear, however, is a dangerous thing. it causes you to revert back to instinct. so this mob is many people against one, and they viciously beat griffin to death. they don't really notice the damage that they're doing- both because of his invisibility and also the adrenaline- until it is too late.

in a sense, they stoop to his level. they're scared of a murderer so they, themselves, become the murderers.

it's almost like the message is that there aren't really good people- there aren't bad ones either. there are good actions, there are bad actions, and people are made up of all those. sure, some make better choices than others but in the end, people will fight tooth and nail for their survival, because that is our instinct.

i also could be looking too much into it but i really enjoyed that book.

The Master must know, because he was shocked at the time, that it was in fact ontologically evil of the Doctor to throw him to the nazis and get him put in a concentration camp. He might think it justified, funny, love that she chose to do that, but he knows it’s fucked up.

If he wanted to destroy the Doctor’s reputation, he could have just told Yaz, told the fam, told anyone, at so many points. Because that’s far more question-raising than any murder or genocide or war.

But he can’t. Because what could be weaker in his eyes, than telling anyone that something like that happened to him, and least of all that the Doctor was the one to have done it.

I had wondered if perhaps the design process went something like "ok this guys a kgb spy so I'll put kgb on his uniform" > "oh shit they're not meant to KNOW he's kgb" > "quick change it" haha. a mystery for the ages, much like the choice of the captain design instead of the one for majors.

I really appreciate that diagram of the uniform too, since my (admittedly only cursory) searches of an actual historical example of that navy uniform has been pretty barren.

Trying to research a foreign country's military special forces and find out what was true during a very specific time period before digital archives is pretty hard, apparently! I appreciate all the effort you've put into this.

I learned the cyrillic alphabet and did a tiny bit of duolingo too hehe..... but no I don't speak russian. I think it was on the mgs fandom wiki that I read about his uniform but finding pictures is quite difficult. I can't say for certain but it looks like it was actually a wwii uniform. there's nothing I can find to confirm that ocelot wearing that uniform in 1964 is period accurate but there's SO much information to wade through and tbh I don't have any interest in doing that :| all the different branches and years and battles and ranks... it confuses me LOL. it's such a massive topic but like... niche at the same time so I'm grateful for hobby sites and the like that make it slightly more digestible to the common ocie researcher. my knowledge does NOT go beyond the scope of ocelot I promise

had to give him an undeserved angelic glow to show this sorry but his are much baggier, like riding breeches. they're called galife/galliffet/галифе and are worn with jackboots. the guy in the diagram before was wearing them, so maybe the unforms in the irl pics are from a different era or something. maybe the design of ocelot's uniform was a combination of multiple uniforms. idk but that's the best I can do right now o7
