Last December, I tried to post fic daily - whether that was a one-shot or a chapter of something longer - because I understand that December can be a really rough time of year for people (including me), and I wanted to try and help ease that a little.

...given that most of those were written either the day/night before or day of, I'd like to get an earlier start this year.

SO.

I'm taking prompts! Now throughout December! For any of the fandoms I'm blatantly in and writing (Marvel (both MCU and comics (one I'm better at but. I can research)), Danganronpa (new this year!), Kathryn Hahn etc. (Mrs. Fletcher and Glass Onion (yes, I will take fam requests)), Jane the Virgin (Roisa primarily but I can be persuaded to write other ships), Who Framed Roger Rabbit (with the addendum that my Jess is...complicated)) AND OTHER FANDOMS - last year I wrote Everlark! and got into Marvel comics to write Viv Vision! among! other things!

So like - prompt away! Feel free to send in random stuff, because the worst I can do is say no, and that's basically the same as not asking me in the first place.

Please do not ask me to write Game of Thrones. I know nothing other than the first book, the first two episodes, and what I've seen on my dash. It would be wildly out of character.

Please also no Hazbin Hotel because that is a minefield of triggers waiting to happen.

7.) Favorite Class Trial From All The Games? The last trial in SDR2. The overwhelming barrage of plot twists (holy shit it's Makoto! ... holy shit it's NOT), the roller coaster of emotions, the violently jarring shifts in setting and tone (everyone's back! ... EVERYONE'S IZURU). Plus, I finally understood the point of, and finally came to like, Hajime Hinata.

V3's fourth trial came very close for its masterful subversions of the Danganronpa formula, and especially the incredible use of gameplay to forward the narrative. That moment where you have to COUNTER Kaito and AGREE with Kokichi is a heartbreaker.

8.) Least Favorite Class Trial From All The Games? THH's third one is unique in being almost anti-hype. Every other trial at least has a disturbing set-up, preposterous reveals, a string of moments where everything falls into place, and characters revealing their true selves. This one has ... little hammers and a cardboard box robot? And the hammers were used in a different order than you'd expect? And a fairly obvious culprit, motivated by fairly uninteresting reasons to cook up a fairly bland murder plot? Even when the other trials sucked in certain ways, they had some real imagination and zest and emotional heft to them. Not the case here.

9.) Favorite Execution? Like I could name anything other than Kirumi's execution. Hoooly shit. Its basis in mythology makes for truly striking imagery, like a Saw trap wrought by a vengeful god. And though we've only just come to know Kirumi's nature, it's such a perfect match for that character. The emotional power of the body-rending climb, the dashed hope, and the plummet to hell is how I define Despair. Just gotta quote Linkin Park here, with zero irony: she tried so hard and got so far, and in the end, it didn't even matter.

Korekiyo's came close for being, by a landslide, the funniest in the whole series. My understanding from his monologue in the third trial is that he abused and killed his sister, so her spirit teaming with Monokuma to extinguish his soul made me bust a fucking gut.

10.) Least Favorite Execution? I'd say Mikan, but I've played with the idea enough in an as-yet unreleased fanfic project that I can't say it doesn't do something for me. Gonta's execution? I got nothing. Why the high noon setting? Why impalement by a dang Beedrill? Why ... why all that stuff with the Monokubs ...

Quite simply: you're not there to rewrite things, and if you think it's morally objectionable... why are you making a creator you have moral objections to more money? Because it makes you more money? Isn't that extremely crass and hypocritical? If you've got moral objections, don't make money for the people you have moral objections to the art of? It's like if in 2000, Christians made censored versions of Marilyn Manson CDs and sold them officially with him receiving his proper cut of the profits. You realize how insane that sounds, right?

But like, the debate has gotten pretty stupid because of word mutation. "Localization" is a lot of things, most of which are good. Like, earlier I linked a translation of Komaeda's aborted love confession. This is what it looks like unlocalized:

At the link, they marked parts where they'd done a bit of additions just to make it fucking readable. I removed that, because that would still be a dash of it. That looks like Komaeda just got some additional brain damage on top of his preexisting brain damage, because Japanese cannot 1:1 translate to English. The poster's localized translation meanwhile?

The meaning is preserved, but it's put into what actually sounds like human speech again. That's localization! There's no problem with that!

And even beyond that, languages have their own figures of speech and metaphors and quirks and puns and stuff that just don't translate. And it makes sense to alter that into something that the viewer can comprehend, because otherwise it sounds like a non sequitur unless you're a student of the culture.

But to just rewrite someone else's work because you don't like it and try to supplant it with that? Like, fanfic rewrites aren't being sold for a profit and claiming to be the official work, that's different for those reasons. But doing it in an official capacity, without permission? With permission, go apeshit. Panty and Stocking is a perfect example of "had permission, did great". But "I hate this thing so I'm going to get the rights to it to change it out of spite"? From an artist POV, that's a shitbag thing to do, simple as that. And you're still making them money! Like, isn't that crazy? "I hate your work so much I'm going to make this thing I hate palatable to other people who would hate it so you can profit more off of it!" That doesn't make any goddamn sense, right? I'm not crazy? That's nonsense logic? If you have moral objections to a thing, don't make the creator of that thing more money? I feel like I'm crazy because like, nobody ever says this but it seems so goddamn obvious? Is everyone just so infected by capitalist brainrot that the concept of "but I can make money too!" overrides it and that makes sense to people?

And then, because this is likely related to my ranting about NIS America: don't fuck around with the translation of things to just strip the local culture away because foreign cultures scary? That's xenophobic and also harms the text? It's 4Kids bullshit? Like, with Danganronpa, fucking about with the name order and honorifics created so many problems for them. The entire "Toki" nickname thing in UDG is the result of them fucking around so much. Komaru just always called her "Fukawa-san". Then, with that, she switches to "Toko-chan". And like, that's super cute and I love that? Persona keeps these things, why can't Danganronpa?

Oh, and also, for the love of fuck don't alter the text to support your ships. Which is also a thing NIS America did in V3. Kokichi's notes on Shuichi said "untrustworthy?" or something like that in Japanese and "trustworthy?" in the English. Because someone on the team shipped Kokichi and Shuichi, and each translator was given a character to handle because their methodology is fucking batshit. I shouldn't need to say this!

Other things not to do: don't make a character come off as mentally disabled if he isn't in the original? NIS America, again, Gonta. Don't remove a character's bad traits to whitewash him because you don't want people to dislike him or cause drama because a character did a bad thing? NIS America, Kaito. Bruh's bigoted. That's a major point of him. He was raised by two elderly people and is the Toxic Masculinity guy of V3.

DR1 had Mondo, SDR2 had Souda and Fuyuhiko, DR3 had Juzo, and V3 had Kaito. It's a running theme of toxic masculinity. If Kaito's slur-usage was kept, you'd certainly look at how he interacts with Shuichi differently, right? Same with how he is with Maki? That's the point: he's trying to help, but his helping isn't the best because he's doing it in literally the only framework he knows. He's not a malicious piece of shit human being, he's someone with prejudices he hasn't had the chance or opportunity to unlearn, and it's not like Shuichi is gonna be any help. And, ya know, it acts as a counterbalance to Tenko. And now he'll never get the chance to learn and grow as a person. His potential is cut off.

So yeah, localization isn't inherently bad, but altering the text to suit your own personal views is shitty to artists, and also just goddamn weird that you'd have moral objections to someone's work but also want to make them more money.

I've said this on Discord, but out of all the Danganronpa games, I have the most attachment to the cast of the first game. Even though I only got into the series in 2020, I saw most of them across my dash way back when the game was in its heyday. So they're like old friends to me even if I've only known them for a short while.

billie: starting with her is so fucking funny because she is just a npc. born to be a halfling npc with the commoner stat block. shes not even necessarily an important npc either shes mostly just somebody the dm would make should a player character ever need to ask for directions. if i were to really try to give her a story i reckon she would resent how horrible she feels as a boring commoner and TRYYY to become an adventurer but she really doesnt fit into any category LMAO

erin: GLAMOUR BARD!! pippy would fucking THRIVE in this universe where it is way more acceptable to take out her instrument and start randomly playing something. still just as annoying but you cant hate her for this... race wise i can see her as a gnome BUTTT honestly just a regular human might make more sense for her lore lmao. as a race that is notorious for having a fleeting lifespan in comparison to a lot of the other fantasy races she would be far more paranoid with keeping up her persona while also lamenting the fact she cant stay young forever

rie: eloquence bard/pact of the archfey warlock :)) she is extremelyyy charming and able to weave her way out of so many situations with her words alone, in a way that exceeds normal bard limits. like shes definitely got multiple people suspicious about her and accusing her of dark magic already LMAO, and they arent WRONG, she definitely took a pact with an archfey, but her success is what is keeping her family afloat so she cant complain that much. i think she's an elf :) that beauty is ETERNAL baby!!!! theres no ending this torment!!!!!!

ryobe: ok its actually a bit of a toss up for me here because ryobe's stats are definitely high charisma/high intelligence, but im not super suurreeeee what that would translate to class wise....... im honestly thinking yet another bard LMFAO. possibly a glamour bard/arcane trickster rogue multiclass???? which isnt the best optimisation but. yknow GDFKGFD. i kinda like him as a satyr, gives him a reason to prioritise fun as much as he does

sae: path of tempest barbarian that THINKS shes a beast master ranger that kinda sucks at magic for soooo much of her life. the last time she went into any sort of rage was when she was a kid and even then she was in denial bc her rage manifests in this terrible storm so she just assumed it was natural and nothing to do with her LMAO. its a mix of both "that cant be my doing. surely" and "i can not be an angry person i canttttt be a barbarian" that prevents her from reaching her full potential for while, and even when she does comes to terms with the fact shes a barbarian its still badddd bc her rage is explosive as FUCKKK. she'd be one of the more physically intimidating races like a half-orc i think. maybe a firbolg but most likely half-orc
