The thing I love about Sirius (the star) is that it is so much brighter and more twinkly than anything else in the sky that I can always recognize it even without any other stars around for reference. It is that bright and that special.
And in that way, there is no better namesake for Sirius Black.

Hey💗 can you do a Sirius black one? Where they are still in Hogwarts and really like each other but aren’t doing any thing about it. But one day Bellatrix or anyone that is a pureblood corners the reader and writes “mud blood” or something foul on her arm (like for hermione in Harry Potter) and he heard the screams but couldn’t find anyone. Then later he finds the reader and she’s acting off and avoids everyone. The next day or few days he sees what’s on her arm and finds out and gets revenge as well as establishing their relationship 🤍
Hi, thanks for the request, and apologies for taking awhile to get to it. I really hope you enjoy. 🤍
Sirius Black X Fem!Reader
Summary: Sirius doesn’t like when the girl he’s enamored with gets harmed, so he takes matters into his own hands
Warnings: Bullying, Assault, Sirius and Reader being dummies and ignoring their feelings, Reader experiences a panic attack, Sirius cares way too much (even though he says he doesn’t)
Proofread? No
I Solemly Swear - S.B
You were a mudblood, or so you’ve been told. You were a first year at the time, too naive to understand what it meant, and too mesmerized with the lore of Hogwarts. You were a muggle. You knew that, but only cause you were taught that quite quickly by a few pureblood’s who couldn’t stand the sight of you. It hurt, but you eventually realized in your third year that Hogwarts was not so flowers and rainbows as your eleven-year old mind had made it seem.
You were a sixth year now, accustomed with your house, friends, and sticking where you belonged. You were like a stickler, you had a usual routine, and you stuck with it. It wasn’t like you completely disregarded making friend ships with those who were pure blooded. You had James and Sirius to account for. They were your closest friends since first year, being the only ones who came to your defenses when you were unrightfully attacked.
As of right now, you were a stressed sixth year running to her first class of the day. James, with his long legs, was striding farther, and faster. You puffed out a breath, struggling to tie your own tie as your book bag strung loosely on your last three fingers, teasing you each time it nearly fell off. “James, for melin’s sake slow down.” You squeezed out, your concentration stuck on straightening out your tie. James was surprisingly silent, you hadn’t notice him halt in his step, causing you to ricochet off his back.
You held onto his shoulders, a scowl on your face as you found your equilibrium. “I didn’t mean stop completely you bloke.” Once you shifted besides him, you noticed his jaw practically slacked, the faintest blush on his cheeks, or perhaps his skin complexion, and his gaze trained on something, or rather someone. “Y/N, look.” He pointed, helping you easily scout Lily Evans right before she turned the corner, you rolled your eyes, giving him a sarcastic smile as you ran ahead, in hopes of catching your red headed friend.
You eventually caught up to her falling in step as you started up a conversation. Soon after James was between you two, his hands around both your shoulders as he threw a cocky smile at Lily, who only scowled at him briefly before pushing his arm off. The three of you were nearly there, before a thought crossed your mind. You quickly stopped, causing the two to look at you confusedly as you rummaged through your bag, an annoyed groan falling from your lips. You forgot your transfiguration book.
“You guys just go ahead, I’ll be a little late.” James seemed to frown, walking closer as he grabbed your bag. “Y/N, I can go with.” He insisted, causing you to shake your head with a thankful smile. With a wavering sigh, James gestured you to go, keeping hold of your bag as he said—“I’ll keep your baby safe, not a worry dear.” So with that you immediately turned back around, returning from where you came from.
You were quick, up until you saw a few Pureblood’s loitering around the hall you needed to go through to get to the floating staircase. You were in a dilemma, slowing in your steps as you tried to walk pass them, in hopes of being unperturbed. You failed miserably, your steps alerting them and causing them to holler at you. “Hey, mudblood cmere’.” Were you perhaps a fool for not listening and continuing on? Yes, because you were in deep shit.
You felt a rough hand tug your arm, pulling you back and keeping you trapped. You turned behind you, catching sight Bellatrix Black behind you, before turning back to the front, Narcissa Black, and Lucius Malfoy as well. You clenched your fist, annoyance bubbling in your core and before you could bite your tongue, you spoke harshly, “Don’t you have some wizard freak to worship? Leave me alone.” They didn’t seem to take your words to kindly, Bellatrix had her wand pointed at your lower back, causing you to tense as Lucius laughed sarcastically.
“I’d watch the way you speak of Lord Voldemort you mudblood, he’ll have you wiped off the planet.” You only scowled at him, causing him to grab your jaw forcefully, making you squirm uncomfortably. “Just give up while you can, no one will save you. Not even that disgrace of a Black.” His words resonated deeply, anger seeping through the surface of your skin as you spit in his face, causing him to push your face harshly and fall into Bellatrix’s tight hold.
“You’re done for you fucking muggle.” He spat distastefully. He had tugged your hair roughly, exposing your neck before he pointed his wand at your skin, a burning sensation oncoming, causing you to scream in pain, a few screams escaping before your mouth was covered by a grinning Bellatrix. The pain went on for several seconds, your squirming doing nothing to ease the pain nor get rid of their grips. Once he was done he let go of your hair, allowing your head to drop defeatedly.
“It’s good to let everyone know what you are, a good for nothing mudblood.” Your tears fell silently, their snickers and cackles fading from your ears as you felt blood drop from the side of your neck, landing on your hands. Lucius held your head up one last time, tapping your cheek mockingly before dropping you and ultimately letting you fall to the ground exhaustedly. With one last look at the three of them, the only one who seemed to hold remorse was Narcissa, who looked at you apologetically before they were gone.
You were quick to stand, your knees weak and barely holding you up as the assault finally seeped in, allowing you to cry silently as you made your way back to the Gryffindor common room. Just as you had left, a disturbed Sirius Black rounded the corner, only for the hall to be empty, causing him to frown worriedly. He heard it, he wasn’t crazy, or at least he didn’t think he was. The scream was distinct, causing him to worry about you, but why you? You were surely in class by now. With one last glance at the crime scene he walked away, unable to spot the few drops of blood decorating the hallway.
The next few days were blank, your friends barely seeing you, which was not like your usual routine. You concealed yourself, always fidgeting with the hair resting around your neck, as if you were hiding something (which you were). James had grown worried about you, your usual playful banter was scarce, he barely saw you, and he couldn’t find you in places he normally would. So as he sat around the couches in the common room, silence floating around the group of people you called friends, he spoke. “Is anyone else worried about Y/N?”
The silence seemed to tense up, as if you were a sore subject, each teen glancing at one another before another voice piped up, “I’m sure she’s just fine.” Everyone’s eyes fell on Sirius who seemed so nonchalant about the whole situation. James brows furrowed in slight anger, his voice tense as he spoke, “Why are you acting so—so freaking careless about Y/N.” Sirius’s composed stature seemed to falter slightly before he shrugged. “Maybe she just wants to be alone.” James rolled his eyes at that.
Truth be told, Sirius was absolutely worried about you. His feelings had arose for you within the past year, his placid, aloof behavior only seeming to arise whenever you were brought up, or you were around. He liked you, he knew that, he just didn’t wanna ruin the ongoing friendship he had with you. So with a huff he sunk into his seat, going silent as his friends stared at him with indifferent looks. Remus cleared his throat, casting a quick glance towards the portrait hole, causing everyone to look back, and for you to look like a deer in headlights.
“Why do you all look crazy?” You pressed quizzically, the faintest smile playing at your lips, causing each teen to glance at one another before James cleared his throat. “We’re…worried, about you.” You tilted your head to the side, a quirk between your brows as you frowned. “Why would you be worried?” You asked naively, causing Sirius to produce a gruff scoff, you glanced at him, he wasn’t even looking your way. With a roll of your eyes, you reassured the boys, “I’m fine, can you guys just—I don’t know, drop it?” As much as they didn’t want to, they did.
With a quick glance at each of them, and your gaze lingering on Sirius longer than usual. You left the three of them, silently making your way to your dormitory. Once you were for sure gone, James slapped Sirius on the back of his head, causing him to groan. “What the hell was that for Prongs?” James only stared at him as if his attack was justifiable (which it was).
“For being a bloke to the girl you love.”
“Love? I—Y/N and I are just friends.”
He received a look from both Remus and James who looked unmoved. With clenched fists he stood from the couches, following en-suite of the route you took to get to your dorm. He was frustrated, with himself and with you. As much as he didn’t wanna admit how worried he was about you, he wanted to get to the bottom of why you started acting this way in the first place. As soon as he entered your dormitory, he caught sight of you facing a mirror, your hair held up with your hand, as your other hand touched at the words written across your neck.
“Y/N, what the fuck.” He had shouted, his eyes wide as he clenched his fist. You were quick to drop your hair, quickly covering the engraving as you glanced back at him with a glower. “Sirius, get out.” His stance didn’t budge, only walking closer as he grabbed your face. You pushed his hands away, pushing his chest in the process as you turned back to the mirror. “You weren’t supposed to see that.” You said glumly, only for him to scoff as he pointed an accusatory finger at you. “Lemme’ guess, because your gonna keep acting like everything’s fine, when it’s clearly not.”
You frowned at that, turning to face him as you poked your finger into his chest harshly, pushing him back with each word, “Why would you care? You haven’t been the greatest friend in the world, so look if they sent you up here, tell them I’m fine.” Sirius grasped your wrists loosely, a discouraged look on his face as he chuckled lowly. The sight alone, made you feel sick, his demeanor reminding you of Lucius, causing you to try your best to pull away. “Sirius—L-Let me go.” You struggled in his hold, tears springing in your eyes as you fought an internal battle.
He continued to hold you, up until you yanked away, falling to the floor and covering your face as sobs racked from your body. “Y-Y/N, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to—Just talk to me, please.” He pleaded, sinking down beside you as he lifted your head slowly. Your eyes were already red, mascara stains under your eyes as you sniffled. He frowned as he rubbed the back of your head comfortingly. “Y/N, who did this to you.” You were silent for a moment, your head eventually falling onto his shoulder as you whispered softly. “Lucius and Bellatrix.” If it weren’t for how quiet your dorm was, he wouldn’t have heard you.
He was mad, and as much as he wanted to beat Lucius for even touching a hair on your head. He refrained. He wanted to be with you, comforting you, helping you, and whatever else you wanted him to do. “Can you stay?” You whispered one last time. Although he looked so calm on the outside, his heart felt like it’d explode from how fast it was beating. “Yeah.” He mumbled awkwardly, causing you to laugh softly. “If you don’t—I do.” He cut your statement off, getting comfy as his back rested on the side of your bed. He’d spend the entire night like that if you wanted him too.
The next day felt much better for you. After having Sirius hold you the whole night, you felt much better, even having the energy to socialize with you friends. You walked with Lily on the way to your first class, only to be stopped by a group of students forming a crowd, laughs and snickers falling from their lips. You and Lily pushed through the crowd, your jaw falling at the sight of Lucius Malfoy beating himself up. Sirius towered above him his wand pointed at Lucius as he kept repeating—“Why are you beating yourself up Malfoy?”
You couldn’t help the laugh that escaped you, Lucius groaned weakly, his arm forcefully raising itself up before he punched himself again. It was absolutely hilarious. “I see you’ve taken matters into your own hands.” You joked, Sirius could only smile, shrugging his shoulders as he spoke, “It’s gonna last all day.” You smiled at that, mouthing a ‘thank you’, but he only waved you off. It became silent between the two of you, not even the laughter of those surrounding you two was able to break the silence you two formed.
“I’d do anything for you Y/N, I care about you, and I’m sorry if I haven’t been the greatest friend alive.” You opened your mouth to speak, only to be cut off by the sound of Mcgonagall’s voice, “Sirius Black, what is the meaning of this?” She asked, her face devoid of any emotion. Sirius only smiled at her, his voice bittersweet as he spoke, “Minnie, this what we call sweet revenge.” She only tutted, granting him three weeks of detention as she helped Lucius stand, telling the crowd to separate.
Soon after it was just the two of you. You both smiled at each other like lovesick puppies, up until Sirius spoke, “So three weeks of detention.” You nodded awkwardly, up until you both laughed. “How can I make up for that?” You asked sweetly, watching as ideas racked over his brain. He soon after snapped his fingers as he smiled at you.
“After my three weeks, how about a date?”
“Deal.”

Drabble. HHR. Dimensional Travel. 5th year.
Tumblr media
The Department of Mysteries had gone mostly silent after the screaming of the battle, except for one pair still fighting.  They hadn’t yet noticed Albus Dumbledore had arrived, and their screams echoed through the high ceiling of the cavernous room.
Sirius Black ducked the green jet of the killing spell from his cousin Bellatrix Lestrange and laughed, taunting her. “Come on, you can do better than that!”
Her second spell hit him squarely in the chest. He hadn’t even finished laughing, but his grey eyes widened in shock at the hit. Harry felt his heart thump hard in his chest. No.
Harry jumped up from where he had fallen during the early battle, running as fast as he could as Sirius started to stumble. It all happened in slow motion. The graceful arc of Sirius's body as he curved backward, a look of fear and surprise on his godfather's wasted, once-handsome face.  The ragged veil parted as Sirius fell through, causing it to flutter for a moment as though in a high wind, and then it fell back into place.
High-pitched screaming echoed along with Harry’s own as he ran full out towards the veil. “SIRIUS!”
Harry didn’t know how he kept screaming because his chest felt like it was being trampled on, his heart beating erratically. He couldn’t lose Sirius. He had only just fallen through that curtain, he had to be just on the other side of that veil. Harry would pull him back out again.
Lupin’s hand shot out and Harry ducked to the side, his long reach missing him by millimeters.  Harry heard the screams behind him but ignored them, his focus on reaching the veil. He jumped right through it without a pause.
His momentum sent him straight into the concrete on the other side and he looked up into Sirius’s confused face. “I knew you would be here! Come on Dumbledore is here—”
“Who the bloody hell—”
“Sirius!” the two witches screamed almost in unison, jerking their attention up.
Harry’s mouth dropped open as he saw Hermione running towards them. How had she recovered from Dolohov’s blast? Why did she look–
“Who are you?” Hermione asked, pointing her wand at him.
“What the—are you—why do you—” Harry couldn’t make a coherent sentence come out, and he looked around the same cavernous room he had just come from—but that was impossible. He looked towards the veil and there it was, still fluttering softly.
Three wands were pointed in his direction. Now the battle raging beyond the room seemed muted as they focused on each other, Harry with his hands slightly raised.
“Now be a good lad and tell me who you are?” Sirius asked.
Staring into his familiar grey eyes, Harry picked up the details he had missed in his initial rush to grab Sirius and get back. Sirius’ hair was no longer liberally threaded with silver, it was jet black and the lines that had given his face a worn, tired look from his time in Azkaban were gone. Sirius looked so much younger and healthier than he had been just moments ago.
Hermione looked different in much the same way. Her hair was longer and instead of a frizzy mess, it was in neat curls that highlighted her softer features. Harry had always thought Hermione was pretty enough, and it had irritated him the way Ron sometimes clumsily cut down her confidence. But this Hermione was put together and elegant, the way he had seen his Hermione only once before during the Yule ball in fourth year.
The third person facing him was perhaps the most troubling of all. She was shorter than him, almost even with Hermione. She had wild black curls and bright green eyes. But the most striking thing about her was the scar on her forehead—the exact mirror of his.
Harry had never introduced himself using his full name, but his middle name slipped out when he answered. “My name is Harry James Potter.”
“Bollocks!” the curly haired witch cried out.
Sirius looked at him consideringly. “He looks exactly like him, more than you Zinny.”
“Just because he has a penis doesn’t mean it automatically makes him look more like—”
“ZINNY!” Sirius and Hermione yelled and Harry could feel his face heat up a bit. Where the bloody hell was he? And could he get back?
Harry took a step back from the group.
“Don’t move.” Sirius warned.
Yeah, not happening. Harry backed up another step, his wand raising.
“Stupefy!” The spells came from three directions and he batted them off casting a protego as he turned to make a run back to the veil.
“Fast like James.” Harry heard the low voice behind him as the spells pelted his shield as he ran.
He stretched out his hand, his fingers almost touching the veil when a feminine voice roared behind him. “STUPEFY!”
Harry collapsed just short of the veil, the last thought going through his head that her magic felt familiar. Like an echo of his own, like family.

Bella & Susan
CW: Domestic Violence & Toxic Masculinity.
I have a lots of plans for The Black Sisters in my Muggle AU. Bellatrix had always been bisexual in my mind. Let me know if you want to know more about this story.
*********************
Bellatrix’s dream was to be someone important. Ever since she was little, she detested princesses that were stupid enough to be damsels in distress. She didn’t play to be the princess, or the mom, or the kind teacher, like her sisters. She liked being a Queen of a distant kingdom, a warrior, a powerful witch. And a business girl. Just like her father.
Princesses were stupid in Bella’s mind. She wanted to be something more. Never wait to be rescued by a prince. Rescue herself.
Bellatrix loved to hear how Cygnus talked about his business. Bella admired how her father had everything under control, he was a ruler and everyone was at his feet. Cygnus didn’t need anyone else to make decisions. He was the one to make them for himself. Cygnus was the boss. The President of the Company, well kind of replacing Grandpa Pollux because he was sick. But Cygnus was the Heir.
And Bella wanted to be next. She wanted to own everything. Not because of the money, Bella knew that she would be rich either way. But because he wanted to be the boss. She wanted to be the one to make decisions and have everyone at her feet.
But the precious Heir was now her cousin Sirius. Just because he was a boy and Bella was a girl. It wasn’t fair. Sirius was barely thirteen. He was a beast, immature, and disobedient. Bella was sure his balls hadn’t even grown yet.
Bella knew everything about the Company. She had always been there, listening to her father, pendant of the meetings and the business. She knew what her Uncle Orion did. What her Uncle Alphard did. She knew about their discussions, the investments, future projects, who owned shares and who had more shares.
Sirius didn’t want or deserve to be the Heir. Bella wanted it more than anything.
So Bellatrix had a plan. She was gonna work with her father, side by side, learn about everything and be good enough to prove to her family and the rest of the shake holders she could rule The Black Empire. Even better than any of the assholes that had done it before. Bella had to break the tradition. It was 2009. Those wankers couldn’t be sexist still.
Bellatrix never planned to meet Susan though. She never expected Susan to fill up her brain and become everything, even more important than her central dream, and so fast.
Susan Runcorn was Cygnus' assistant. Pretty girl. Shorter. Amber eyes and blond curls. But not pretty like Bellatrix was. The first time she saw her, Bellatrix didn’t even pay her attention. “Good afternoon, Miss Black” she had said, and Bella hadn’t even answered.
But Bella noticed Susan when she heard her crying in the bathroom. Bellatrix knew it was her because of the horrible shoes she used to wear. So she knocked into the stall.
“I know you are in there”
There were a few sniffs and then the sound of the toilet flushing. And then Susan came out. She pretended to smile but her eyes were red and puffy. Bellatrix was not stupid.
“Miss Black, good afternoon” Susan said with a soft smile and walked to the basin.
“Does my father treat you so badly that you are crying?”
Susan looked down embarrassed.
“Your father is nice to me, Miss Black”
“Then what happened?”
Andromeda was the kind one who would’ve comforted Susan even though she was a stranger. Saying dumb things like: “Everything will be okay”. But Bella was allergic to those kinds of affective words.
Susan was silent for a while.
“No offense, Miss Black but those are personal matters”
When Susan pulled her sleeve up to wash her hands, Bellatrix saw some bruises. But then she looked away.
“Whatever. We are not even friends” she spat as she walked inside a stall and closed the door.
That was the beginning of everything.
**************************************
Cygnus had prepared a little desk for Bellatrix just outside his office. Bella didn’t have to keep a schedule, she was just there to help her father with stuff. Bellatrix knew Cygnus didn’t take her seriously. He had accepted to have Bella around the office only to shut her up.
And now Bellatrix had to sit next to Susan everyday. A few meters away, actually. And Bellatrix got annoyed about the way Susan was. So delicate and nice. She was worse than Andy. At least Andy had some personality.
“Good afternoon, Miss Black” Susan always said when Bellatrix arrived after her morning classes at Uni.
Bellatrix never answered. But this time she stopped in front of her father’s door.
“If I don’t say hello to you, you’re gonna cry?”
Bellatrix only said that because Susan still followed with her eyes and smiled at her. Even if Bella didn’t answer her greetings.
Susan looked away sadly. So Bellatrix knocked and opened the door.
“Hi Daddy!”
It was like that for over a month. Bella went to Uni and hung out with her friends and Andy. They’d been having lots of fun going to The Leaky Cauldron. A cafeteria near their faculty, because they discovered Ted Tonks worked there and Bella loved messing up with him.
But most of the time Bellatrix was in the Office. She had assisted meetings and she was thinking of a plan for the new Black Empire’s project. Cygnus had the perfect idea for a new mall at the center of the city. But there were a few old houses that didn’t want to sell.
Bellatrix stayed at the office until late because she was hung up by the work she was doing. But so was Susan.
“Susan, I need the bloody report by tomorrow. Do you understand?” Cygnus had said before leaving.
“Yes, sir”
And then he had turned to Bella.
“And you go home, darling… My sweet girl is gonna be tired”
“Can I go with you, daddy?”
“I actually have a business dinner. Tell your mother I’ll be home late”
That’s what Bella wanted in the future. To be the one in business dinners. Not the stupid wife waiting home.
Cygnus started walking but then he stopped, grabbing something from his pocket.
“Why don’t you drive my car home, sweetheart?” Cygnus smiled, giving Bella the keys.
“Really?” It was odd for Bellatrix's father. He loved his Porsche more than anything.
“I am driving with your Uncle, love” Cygnus nodded “Plus, I trust you. Let’s give the driving lessons some use”
Bellatrix squealed, and got up from her seat to hug and kiss her father.
“Thank you, Daddy! I love you!”
“Love you too” Cygnus smiled. Then he walked away “Don’t stay until too late, Bella”
Bella noticed Susan had been staring at her.
“What are you looking at?”
Susan looked away “I wasn’t”
Susan sighed and got to work. Bella couldn’t just leave if she wanted to. But she didn’t.
It was an hour later and none of them had finished what they had been doing. It was pure silence, and the sound of the keyboard and mouse.
Bella, when I u comin home?
Andromeda texted.
Soon
Bella answered.
U’re taking this job 2 seriously
Bellatrix rolled her eyes. Andromeda was too soft sometimes. Probably waiting to marry someone. But not Bella. She was gonna work hard for this.
Bella decided to make herself a coffee. She didn’t ask if Susan wanted one. She didn’t care. Besides, the girl was too concentrated to notice anything.
By the time Bella returned with her coffee, she heard screams.
“I DON’T GIVE A SHIT, SUSAN! WE ARE LEAVING NOW! PICK UP YOUR THINGS, COME ON! COME ON NOW!”
Bellatrix took a peek from behind the wall. It was Albert Runcorn. Bella had known that man since forever. He was Cygnus’ friend. The Head of Finance in The Company. And Susan’s husband. Even if he was too old to be her husband. He was around her father’s age.
“Okay, okay, Albert” Susan was saying calmly as she picked up her things “Just be patient”
“COME ON! ARE YOU FUCKING RETARDED? YOU’RE TAKING AGES!”
Susan didn’t respond to that.
“I told you I hate when you stay longer than necessary. What is it? Do you want to suck your boss’ dick?”
Bellatrix had had enough.
“Is everything okay?” Bellatrix came out of her hiding.
Runcorn was surprised to see her. He was a bit pale even. Susan was embarrassed and she was still picking up her things as quickly as she could.
Runcorn gave her a smile. His expression totally changed. He was the smiley nice man that sometimes Bella had seen at home. Not the monster that had screamed.
“Bellatrix!” he sneered. “What a surprise to see you here. I heard you are now working with your father”
Bellatrix simply looked at him “Mr. Runcorn”
“I haven’t seen you since your sweet sixteen party” Runcorn smirked “What a nice evening, ha?” then his eyes traveled through Bella’s body “It seems like you’ve grown”
Bellatrix was used to boys at Uni and her male friends to stare at her body all the time. But this was disgusting.
“And it seems like you’re in a hurry, Mr. Runcorn”
Runcorn snorted nervously.
“Oh yes. I actually am. Susan and I made dinner reservations and I don’t want to be late”
Susan was static. She seemed so tense and scared by this conversation.
“Are you ready, darling?” Runcorn added, now with a sweet and tender tone. So different from how he had spoken before.
Susan was going to answer but Bellatrix was faster.
“Actually, Mr. Runcorn. Susan cannot leave” she walked and placed herself in front of Susan, facing her husband. And how angry that man looked. He clenched his teeth.
“And why is that?” Runcorn asked, trying to be polite. But Bella was enjoying his face. It looked like he was having a shit.
“Susan” Bella turned to her. She was so pale “Daddy asked you to finish that report, didn’t he? He instructed you not to leave before finishing it. Have you finished it yet?”
Bellatrix was trying to tell Susan to follow her lead. But Susan was too scared to do anything.
“Amm… No” But she wasn’t as dumb as Bella had thought.
Bella turned to Runcorn again, she smiled.
“Sorry, Mr. Runcorn” she said, sounding as innocent as she could. She was an expert at acting innocent. She did that all the time with her father “Daddy is gonna get so angry without that report”
Runcorn looked like he ate something in a bad state.
“What am I supposed to do, wait for her?” Runcorn asked “We were having dinner with my parents, weren’t we darling?”
Bellatrix couldn’t believe that the man's parents were still alive. How old was he?
“We had plans, Miss Black” Susan’s answer was barely a whisper.
“I promise you I will make sure your wife finishes quickly” Bella said “And I will personally take her to the restaurant. How about that?”
Runcorn was hesitant. He was containing himself. He probably wanted to yell at Bellatrix. That’s why Bella loved power so much. She was untouchable.
“Or… I can call Daddy and…”
“Fine! I guess I will go ahead first” Runcorn smiled. Bless the power. “And I will scold Cygnus for filling my wife with too much work”
He said as a joke so Bellatrix chuckled fakely.
“See you later, darling” Runcorn added, looking at Susan in a hateful way. Then he smiled at Bellatrix “It was nice seeing you again, Bellatrix. I hope we can meet again around the office”
“Surely” Bella faked a smile.
Runcorn walked away and when he was gone, Susan let out the air she was holding. Bellatrix looked at her. She looked so pale and worried.
“You shouldn’t have done that, Miss Black”
“You should thank me” Bella snapped “I took that wanker off you for a while”
Susan shook her head.
“Does he always speak to you like that?”
“Albert was just angry, rightfully. His parents don’t like waiting and we had a compromise with them”
“Is Albert your second boss? Or your husband?” Bella joked.
Susan sighed.
“I should better go”
Bellatrix wanted to slap that girl into her senses. Why was she so submissive? It was so fucking annoying.
“Have you finished the report?”
“Yes”
“I want to read it” Bella said, taking a seat in Susan’s desk “You’ll be able to leave only when I say it is perfect”
Susan seemed frustrated but she didn’t protest. No wonder people stepped over her. She didn’t even defend herself. When Susan leaned in to turn on the computer, Bella could smell her sweet perfume. It had a nice smell. Those kinds of smells you couldn’t get enough of.
Bellatrix didn’t know why she cared about that.
“You might want to take a seat” she said “I believe will take a long time”
*************************************
The report was perfect but Bellatrix tried to find every single detail to correct. Only because she wanted to take her time. And because she wanted to see how long it would take for Susan to lose her mind.
Susan’s phone rang and rang on her purse. It was surely that wanker. The fifth time it rang, Susan picked it up because she couldn’t take it anymore.But Bellatrix took it before she could answer. And she turned it off.
“Miss Black…”
“We are working”
Not even then Susan protested. It was incredible. Bellatrix would’ve killed someone at this point. Susan had to have a breaking point. She couldn’t be this dossil. It seemed like she wanted to cry. But Bellatrix was not going to comfort her. She needed to be stronger.
Bellatrix drove Susan home an hour later, because by now, dinner had been over. Susan was silent on the ride. She had been playing with her sweater sleeves only to hide the fact she was trembling.
All of it confirmed what Bellatrix had been suspecting. Albert Runcorn was an abusive man. But yet Bellatrix had met Runcorn and he was her daddy’s friend. Maybe she was imagining all of it.
Bellatrix groaned after a while.
“You’re the worst company, Susan. You know that?”
“I’m just tired”
“I bet you had more fun than what you would’ve had with Mr. and Mrs. Runcorn” Bella answered “So don’t protest”
“They don’t like me already, worse now that I stood them up”
Everything Susan said sounded as if she wanted to cry. Bellatrix rolled her eyes.
“Now Daddy is going to be happy with you because I made that report so much better”
Susan didn’t answer.
“Or maybe I will become Daddy’s assistant and he is gonna fire you”
“I don’t intend to compete with you, Miss. Black”
“I was joking” Bella snapped “You need to learn when I joke. Especially if we are gonna work together”
“Okay” Susan nodded.
Bellatrix groaned. And Susan looked at her confused.
They arrived at Runcorns’ house a bit later. It was big but nothing like The Black’s mansion.
“Thank you for driving me home” Susan said.
But she didn’t come out of the car, not yet. Susan was staring at the house. Specifically at the last window with the lights on. Bellatrix felt something weird then. Maybe it was pity or worry or something like that. And she hated that.
“Are you gonna get out of my car? Or are you spending the night here?”
Susan blinked, and nodded.
“Good night, Miss Black” she said as she opened the door.
Bellatrix saw Runcorn getting out of the house then. He didn’t seem angry. On the contrary, he smiled and waved at Bellatrix.
“Thank you for bringing her home, Bellatrix!” he yelled.
Bellatrix waved back. Then she saw how Mr. Runcorn hugged his wife welcoming her and he gave her a kiss on the lips. Susan was still tense despite the nice welcome.
Then Runcorn grabbed her arm and dragged her inside. Susan gave Bellatrix a last look before Runcorn closed the door. The way Susan looked at her, gave Bellatrix shivers down her spine. It was as if she was asking her for help. Eyes of pure fear.
Bellatrix felt a weird sensation. She felt cold shivers, and her heart started beating fast. Bellatrix felt really cold, and her hands began shaking involuntarily.
Everything was silent inside her car. So silent it was unbearable. So she rolled down the window, and she heard the sounds of the empty street and dogs barking in the distance. But she also heard something else. Distant screaming and crying. And maybe the sound of something dropping to the floor.
Bellatrix wasn’t sure. Maybe she was imagining all of it. Everything sounded so distant and muffled. But when Bella closed her eyes, she saw flashes of images. It was Runcorn and he was hitting Susan, knocking her into the floor.
“PLEASE!” she begged and she cried.
“SHUT UP, YOU FUCKING BITCH” he hit her again.
Runcorn was now on top of her, choking her with his belt.
And suddenly the noises became louder and Bellatrix could hear Susan screaming for help and Runcorn insulting her and telling her to shut up. Plus hits and punches and kicks.
Bellatrix began breathing fast and her eyes filled with tears. She was getting out of air. And she was shaking. So she turned up the volume of the radio, trying to drown everything else. But somehow the screams were getting louder in her head.
“SHUT UP!” Bella screamed, covering her ears.
Then everything calmed down and all Bella could hear was the loud music. She opened her eyes, catching up her breath. And she turned off the radio. Everything was silent. Just a few barks and the sound of the night. No screams, no crying, no hits. Nothing.
Bellatrix was becoming mental. There was nothing she could do for Susan. Besides, she wasn’t sure. There was nothing she could do. Susan was a complete stranger to her. It was none of her business.
Then why did she feel guilty? It was all stupid. She was probably tired and needed to go home. She needed to focus on her dream and nothing else. Bellatrix needed to get the hell out of there. So she turned on the engine and drove away.
***************************************
“Are you going to work today?” Andromeda asked as they got out of class the next morning. She seemed in a good mood today “God, it sounds weird. I can’t believe you are voluntarily working in an office”
“What should I be doing then?”
Andromeda shrugged “Anything else”
“Like what? Writing poems?” Bellatrix thought Andromeda’s hobby was stupid “Or working in a coffee shop, like Tonks?”
“What do you have against him? He is just doing his job”
“I am tired and sick of men. All of them are trash”
Bellatrix was thinking specifically of Runcorn.
Andy sighed “What? Something happened with Rodolphus again?” she said, fixing her eyes on the group of boys nearby. Rodolphus was laughing at something Gerand was saying. Gerald was a pig. All of them were stupid.
“I thought you finally got over him when you started dating Danny”
“I am over Rodolphus, I am over Danny and every single man on this planet. That includes Tonks. Especially him”
Andromeda didn’t answer. Then she smiled.
“We do know stupid boys” she said “Malfoy…”
Bella snorted and rolled her eyes.
“Oh God, don’t tell Cissy”
“Malfoy, Mckinnon, Tonks, Rod, Rab, Seth….Gerald!” Bella pretended to puke.
Andromeda giggled “And maybe not all of them are bad?”
Bellatrix was reminded for a second of Susan. Andromeda could be a wanker’s victim, couldn’t she? Bella shook that horrible thought of her brain.
“Come to work with me?” Bella asked, putting an arm around her sister’s shoulder.
Andromeda made a face.
“Or maybe we can do something more fun?”
“I promise it will be fun” Bella grinned “We can flirt with the accountant boys…” she snorted “They are all horrible nerds, and they always drool when I pass by”
Andromeda chuckled.
“And we can bother Daddy and Uncle Alphard” Bella added, making a pout “Uncle Alphard is fun”
Andromeda smiled.
“The coffee and sandwiches are good in the cafeteria” Bella continued “And then we can annoy Daddy until he give us the credit card to go shopping”
“So we are basically going to the office and don’t work at all”
Bella smirked and kissed her sister’s cheek.
“Perks of being owners of the whole thing. We can do whatever we want”
Andromeda laughed.
“Come on, Andy! We haven’t been together in weeks…” Bella begged “Or do you prefer to be with them?” She looked at the group of boys again. Now Gerald was doing an obscene gesture while the others laughed.
“Fine, I’ll go with you”
Bella cheered and kissed Andromeda’s head this time.
As they walked away, Bella heard Rodolphus yelling:
“Hey Andromeda! Andromeda!”
“Don’t answer and just keep walking” Bella said.
Andromeda laughed but obeyed.
In the past Bella would’ve been freaking jealous and angry that Rod was calling for her sister and not her. She would’ve gone crazy out of jealousy. She would’ve felt so insecure. And she would’ve done the impossible to gain Rodolphus' attention. But she actually didn’t care anymore. She was actually curious. Why was Rodolphus so interested in Andromeda?
Bella asked this to her sister on their way to the office.
“I don’t know” Andromeda smiled embarrassed “We are kind of friends now?”
Bella raised an eyebrow.
“Andy!”
Andromeda blushed.
“We had a conversation the other day at the party…”
“What party?”
“Gerald’s. At Gerald’s garage?”
Bella smiled “A conversation?”
“He was drunk”
“You’re blushing Andromeda Black!”
“I am not!” She was.
Bellatrix laughed.
“Rodolphus is the love of your life… I couldn’t do that to you”
Bellatrix thought so for seven years of her life. She had fancied him since they were eleven. But not anymore. She had been so stupid to suffer for a boy like that. Rodolphus never saw her as more than a friend.
“I wouldn’t care if you fancy him, Andy”
“I don’t fancy him!” Andromeda protested.
Bella smiled “I am so over him” she said “And I actually dig the cute couple you will make”
“Shut up!”
Bella laughed.
“Good afternoon, Miss Black”
And then she stopped laughing. Bella and Andy had arrived at their father’s office. Right outside. Bellatrix had been distracted by all the conversation with Andy that she had forgotten for a while about Susan.
Now she was right there. Bellatrix immediately noticed the bags under her eyes, how her eyes were swollen for how much she had cried, she looked tired. And she was wearing a scarf around her neck. The flashes of images came back again for a second.
“Good afternoon” Andromeda answered because Bellatrix had frozen.
Susan smiled at her.
“Isn’t it too hot to be wearing a scarf, Andy?” Bellatrix said.
Susan looked down embarrassed.
Andromeda looked between them.
“I guess but…”
“Susan! Is Daddy in?” Bella asked.
“Yes… but I don’t think he…”
“Okay. thank you!”
Bellatrix didn’t knock this time, she just opened the door. Cygnus was on the phone.
“Yeah I know… I know… Don’t tell me what I know, Fuller!”
When he noticed his daughters he smiled.
“You know what? We’ll talk later. My girls are here…” he said “My daughters, Fuller. Who fucking else?”
Then he hang up.
“Daddy!”
“Bella!... And wow Andy! What a surprise, baby” Cygnus smiled as he approached to kiss his daughters’ cheeks “Don’t tell me you’re interested in the family business as well”
“I am just here to visit, Daddy”
“Good good” Cygnus smiled “Susan!” he yelled and the girl appeared at his door “Get me a coffee please”
“Right, sir”
“Girls, do you want anything?”
“I would like a coffee as well” Bella snapped, without even looking at Susan.
“Maybe tea is fine” Andy added “Thank you”
“Right away…” Susan gave Bella a scared look before closing the door.
“Susan seems a bit shaky today” Cygnus tutted while he took a seat, once Susan had gone.
Bellatrix felt a knot on her throat. Bella and her sister took a seat as well. In front of their father.
“I preferred Nancy” Bellatrix said “She was more…How do I say it, bold?”
“Bella, please” Andy protested, of course she did “I find her a nice girl”
Bella pouted “Why did you end up with her, Daddy? She is Runcorn’s wife. She shouldn’t be working with you”
The real reason Bellatrix was mentioning this was because she was curious. Okay, she was really curious. Bella was just a bit nosy, that was all.
Cygnus chuckled.
“The Runcorns are one of the office scandals” he said as if he was a girl telling a gossip to her friend.
Bellatrix leaned in.
“Why?”
Cygnus smirked “After Albert got divorced from his ex wife after 10 years…He started going out with this girl… She was his assistant at the time. And could’ve been his daughter. Everyone was shocked! Surely Albert had gone mental. But he ended up marrying her. And according to the Company policies, husband and wife cannot work together…” Cygnus tutted “And because I am a good soul as I am, I ended up making her my assistant instead of firing her. I needed someone after Nancy retired”
“Has he had problems with his other wife?”
Maybe he was abusive with her. Maybe she put up with ten years of that. Poor woman. And now it was Susan’s turn.
Cygnus shrugged “I have no idea. Albert doesn’t talk about that. He is still embarrassed for marrying his assistant”
“Why are you so interested in this?” Andromeda asked, raising an eyebrow as she looked at her sister.
Before Bella could answer, Susan came in with the tray of coffees.
“Thank you, Susan” Cygnus said, making eyes at his daughters.
Susan was placing the tray carefully on the desk. Bellatrix was staring at every move she made. When she extended her arms, her sleeves rolled up and Bellatrix saw a mark. As if someone had grabbed and squeezed her wrist so hard it hurt her.
Bellatrix’s eyes laid on that bruise. She couldn’t look away. She didn’t know or care if Andy or her father had noticed. She didn’t look away. When Susan noticed Bella was staring, she pulled her hands away but dropped everything to the floor.
“For God’s Sake!” Cygnus exclaimed, now getting angry.
Andromeda was cleaning her skirt because some of the coffee had splattered over her.
“I’m so ….I’m so sorry…” Susan immediately kneeled to pick up everything “I am so clumsy”
“Jesus, fucking Christ, Susan!” Cygnus groaned “What is wrong with you today? You’re being extra stupid”
Cygnus was Susan’s boss. But Bella was reminded of the way Runcorn treated her. And she hated that.
“Daddy” It was Andromeda who protested.
Bellatrix sighed, when her body reacted again.
“I’ll help you out” Bellatrix said as she kneeled down to help Susan.
Andromeda did it as well without hesitation.
“Girls…” Cygnus protested “What are you doing?...FUCKING HELL”
None of them answered. They kept helping. As they did so Bellatrix noticed Susan was evidently shaking. It was so evident Andromeda noticed as well. And she was looking at the girl with pity.
Luckily the phone rang and Cygnus was distracted.
“Oh yeah, Rafael! Hello! How have you been?”
“It’s okay… Daddy is not gonna scold you” Andromeda whispered gently. Bellatrix noticed Susan was not even paying attention. She looked like she wanted to cry. Again. And Bellatrix’s heart ached  “He just explodes but then he calms down. You must know him by now…”
If Andromeda continued like this, Susan was surely going to cry in front of everyone. Bella needed to stop this.
She picked up the tray with the broken pieces.
“Okay, let’s go” she ordered “See how I have to pick up your mess?”
“Bella…” Andy protested.
“Come on! Stand up!”
Susan did so quickly and she tried to get the tray out of Bella’s hands. But Bella didn’t let her.
“I’ll take this. Otherwise you’re gonna drop it again”
Cygnus was too busy laughing with the person he was speaking to, luckily.
Susan sighed and walked to the door. Bella followed her.
“I’ll help you” Andromeda said.
“No!” Bella stopped her “You wait here, it won’t take long”
“Bella…” Andy said now, whispering in Bella’s ear “Please be nice to her. She seems sad about something”
Bellatrix didn’t want to think about it. So she just walked away following Susan to the coffee bar.
When they arrived, there was no one else. Bellatrix dropped the tray without care. And then she turned to face Susan. Susan was looking down and hugging herself. Her eyes were filled with tears.
Bellatrix approached without saying a word, and before Susan could protest, she took the scarf off her. Susan’s neck was red, clearly a mark that someone had choked her. Bellatrix would’ve gasped right there, but she was too shocked to do anything. All she could do was swallow.
“What did he do to you?” Bella’s voice broke. It rarely happened.
“It…It is not what you think…”
“Why are you defending that asshole?” Bellatrix raised her voice. She didn’t care.
But Susan looked carefully around.
“I tripped in the shower this morning… I am very clumsy sometimes…”
“You think I am stupid?!”
Susan started silently crying. And that made Bellatrix even more furious.
“You have to do something! That fucking asshole is abusing you! Call the police or something!”
Susan shook her head.
“Come on, Susan! You cannot be this stupid!”
That made Susan cry harder. She began sobbing and her shoulders were shaking. Bellatrix felt a knot on her throat as well.
Bellatrix wasn’t a hugger. But when she saw her sisters sad, Bella loved hugging them and squeezing hard to make them know how much she cared. How she would take care of them. When someone hurt her sisters, Bella wanted to hurt whoever made them cry. And make sure no one would touch them again.
Somehow Bellatrix got that same feeling with Susan right now. Even though she was not her sister or someone she cared about. But Bella kind of felt she was the only one who knew about her suffering, about her fucking abusive husband. So Bella had to do something. She had to protect her.
Bellatrix pulled Susan for a hug. Kind of the same way she had done with her sisters. But it felt different. Bella’s chest was warming up. And her body got a weird electricity.
Susan sobbed a few times on Bella’s shoulder. She felt so fragile and tiny in her arms. Bellatrix felt a sense of protectiveness over her. Then a rush of adrenaline came over her. Bella’s heart started beating fast. And she didn’t know what got over her. Bellatrix grabbed Susan’s chin making her face her. Her eyes looked glowy. Her lips were wet and parted and so desirable. Her cheeks were slightly red. Bellatrix wanted to kiss her. And when Bellatrix wanted something, she got it. Bella wasn’t shy with those kinds of things. So Bella just went for it. She kissed Susan on the lips.
It felt different from all the boys Bella had kissed before. Men were usually the ones taking the lead and getting into it. Men were full of disgusting desire. They were too fast and raw. But not Susan. Her lips just moved delicately, allowing Bella to do what she wanted. Bellatrix’s lips grabbed, moved and licked Susan’s. All Bella felt was pleasure each time Susan let her continue, and opened her mouth slowly, so Bella could slide her tongue slowly.
When it was getting better, when Bellatrix could feel goosebumps, that’s when Susan decided to pull away. She left Bellatrix wanting more.
Susan covered her mouth, embarrassed for what she had done. But Bellatrix admired the way she had left her. It seemed like she had liked it. And Bella loved that.
But now Susan was scared. So she ran away as fast as she could.
 Bellatrix was confused. She had never kissed a girl before. She had been sure she was only into men. But fuck…This was better than anything Bella had experienced. Bellatrix wasn’t sure of her sexuality, what she felt for Susan, or what would happen between them. All Bellatrix knew was one thing: She wanted to kiss Susan again. And again, and again. She wanted to melt into her lips. And Bella was gonna do it. No matter how much it will take her.
*****************************************
Susan filled Bellatrix’s brain so quickly. Bella couldn’t stop thinking about her and all the things that made her pretty. Like her shy eyes and the way they were always looking down. Like her rosy and dry lips which Bella wanted to stain and wet with her strong lipstick colors. Her soft curls were always perfectly combed. Her hips, her breasts, her skinny legs, even her horrible shoes.
Susan avoided Bella as much as she could. But Bellatrix wasn’t subtle on the way she stared at her with desire. The way it was obvious Susan wanted her back was so delicious for Bella. Susan licked her lips, and crossed her legs, and she got so blushy and red. She swallowed pretty often. That made Bella smile and want her more.
But Bellatrix was ignoring Susan as well. Mainly because she wanted to see how much Susan actually wanted her. She wanted to see how Susan slowly suffered with the desire to be kissed again. And Bellatrix was doing an excellent job at ignoring her completely while also fucking her with her eyes.
Everything was so exciting. Bella had never felt this way by anyone. Bellatrix woke up every morning and she fixed herself up: makeup, hair, perfume, sexy blouses that exposed her curves, tiny skirts, tight trousers, heels. Even if Bella had all of the male’s eyes on her, even if they stared and whistled, and desired her. None of it mattered because Bella dressed up only for one person. And even if Susan denied it and tried to hide it, Bella could notice her eyes flickered towards her all the time.
And now, even if Bella had been invited to her first meeting, it was impossible to concentrate if Susan was right there. Serving everyone coffee.
Cygnus and Orion were discussing again, and Bellatrix found out they didn’t only discuss at family dinners but in the office as well. But Bellatrix was concentrating on looking at the asshole in front of her. Albert Runcorn.
That wanker noticed Bellatrix was staring and he gave her a nasty look, a mischievous smirk, and a wink. Bellatrix didn’t know if she wanted to kill him or vomit all over him. That wanker kept looking at Bella’s breasts, right in front of his wife. And right in front of Bella’s dad.
But Bellatrix wasn’t someone to be intimidated. She maintained her gaze in a defiant way. She was gonna show that tosser what she was capable of. She was going to steal his wife away from him.
So when Susan went by her seat, Bellatrix grabbed her arm, still looking at Runcorn in the eye. His stupid smile disappeared from his face.
Bellatrix pulled her in to whisper in her ear. Nobody noticed. They were too focused on the fight between Cygnus and Orion. Except for Runcorn. He was very pendant of what Bellatrix was doing.
“I want to see you later in the bathroom” Bella whispered.
Susan shook her head, and gave a worried glance at her husband.
“If you don’t agree now, I will yell right here and now what your husband does to you” Bella whispered again.
Susan seemed pale. But she nodded after she swallowed. Bellatrix smirked confidently. She looked into Runcorn’s eyes then. Runcorn seemed nervous now. Bellatrix was satisfied with that. That asshole was going down.
*******************************************
“You came” Bellatrix smiled as soon as Susan crossed the bathroom’s door after the meeting.
“Only to clarify things, Miss Black…”
Bellatrix slowly approached either way, taking her time, looking at Susan upside down, admiring how pretty she was.
“I understand things happened so fast the other day, and you misunderstood everything about Albert and me” Susan continued, Bella was closer “We had a fight and things got out of control….”
Bellatrix was now too close, she cornered Susang against the door.
“I am in love with Albert… I have much care for you, Miss Black…”
Bellatrix leaned her hand against the door, over Susan’s shoulder. Now she was cornered. And Bellatrix’s body was on fire, full of desire for her.
“You care for me?”
Susan shook her head “You’re not understanding what I want to say…”
Bellatrix chuckled.
“You drive me crazy”, Bella said looking at Susan’s rosy lips “I want to kiss you again”
“Miss Black…”
“I want to do more than kissing you…”
Bellatrix leaned closer and Susan closed her eyes. She was trembling but her lips parted for Bella.
“I know you want me to kiss you as well”
“I am married”
“With the devil himself” Bella said, then she smirked “But I am a little naughty angel that is going to take to take you to heaven”
Susan swallowed in response. Bellatrix saw it as a green light to kiss her again. At first Susan resisted, but seconds later she gave in, and she opened her mouth again. Bellatrix kissed her passionately. Bella was having the most delicious and sweet water and she was so thirsty. Each time wanting more. Her body pressed against Susan’s. And Susan’s curves and Susan’s warmth set Bella’s body on fire. She wanted to taste more. She wanted friction.
If Susan didn’t stop her, Bellatrix was going to go wild. She was capable of anything right now. Bellatrix quickly pulled Susan’s hips against her own, and she started kissing her neck.
Susan was leaning her body closer and closer, and she sighed with Bella’s kisses on her neck. Bella was licking and sucking Susan’s sweet perfume.
“Mi-i-i.iss… Bla-a-a-ack…” Susan sighed, her voice trembling “This is… ah… this is wrong…”
If it was wrong then why did it feel so good? Bellatrix felt she was reaching heaven.
Suddenly someone tried to force on the door, but since Susan was against it, they couldn’t open it. So they knocked.
Bellatrix forced herself to stop, only to lock the door.
“Who is in there?” a woman yelled from outside.
Susan seemed scared, and Bella could see her chest going up and down, trying to catch her breath. Bella could feel her heart beating fast. Her heart was the same.
“Shh shh…” Bella covered Susan’s mouth “There are other bathrooms in other floors” she whispered.
The woman outside knocked again.
“Fucking hell”
When they heard the woman’s heels walking away, Bella uncovered Susan’s mouth and she chuckled.
But Susan didn’t seem happy.
“This is not right” she said “We should stop immediately”
“Mmm…”
Bellatrix ignored her because she kissed Susan again this time softly. She kissed her lips, and her chin, and her neck again.
“You are my boss’s daughter” Susan said, worriedly “You’re a Black… And I am married. We are both women… It is.. wrong…”
Bellatrix stopped kissing her and she rolled her eyes. She was right. It was inconvenient for both of them. They shouldn’t be doing this. But Bella didn’t want to bloody marry her, she just wanted to kiss her and touch her.
“Let’s not think about that” Bella said “You want me too, right? You like kissing me?”
Susan hesitated for a second. But then she nodded. Bella was pleased.
“Outside we can be those things…” Bella continued  “Me? A Black, the owner of everything, your boss’s daughter… You? Runcorn’s wife, my dad’s assistant…a nobody…” then Bella stroked her hair gently “But right now, in here, we can be anything we want and do whatever we want…”
“But Miss. Black…”
Bella tutted “Don’t call me that… Just call me Bella”
“Bella…” Susan whispered.
The way Susan said her name turned Bellatrix on.
“Yeah…” Bella kissed her again “Just like that” another kiss “Right now, we are just Susan and Bella…”
Susan thought about it.
“Susan and Bella…”
“Yeah…”
“I’ve never done something like this” Susan confessed.
Bella smiled “Me neither” she said “But we just have follow our instinct”
“Our instinct…”
Bellatrix touched her cheek.
“I am gonna treat you good, the way that asshole had never done… The way you deserve”
Susan sighed.
“Say my name again…”
“Bella…”
“Good”
Bellatrix smirked. And she kissed Susan again. Then Bella dared to unbutton her trousers and slide her hand inside. When Susan gasped, Bella felt a rush of pleasure.
******************************************
That’s how Bellatrix started a secret relationship with Susan. Everything was mainly sexual. Susan let Bellatrix discover many things and ways to feel pleasure. Something that Bella had never done with anyone. With boys everything was basic. But being with a woman was different. It was better. And everything was even more exciting since they were keeping it a secret from everyone else.
It was impossible to concentrate if Susan was just a few meters away, looking so hot, obviously wanting Bella as well. Susan seemed so innocent but she actually wasn’t. She loved everything Bella did to her.
Of course, they had their cute tender moments as well. Like that time Bella told her daddy she needed Susan for diligence outside the office. And they ended up going out for some ice-cream. And walking around the park, under the sun.
“I feel guilty, Bella”
Susan had gotten used to calling her Bella. She was actually more comfortable around Bellatrix. She had told her things about her past, about Runcorn, about many things she had missed. Susan didn’t have any friends at school. She went to an all girls school, none of them liked her because she was too shy. She never partied, drank. smoked, nothing. When she graduated, she got a scholarship for a local Uni and easily got an internship at The Black Empire. Runcorn had been her first lover, her first kiss, her first time. But Bella was sure she had given her her first orgasm.
“Do you ever feel guilty?”
“You feel guilty about everything” Bella spat.
Susan couldn’t see she was rolling her eyes because she was wearing shades.
“I am basically cheating Albert”
“He deserved it”
Susan looked down embarrassed.
“Sometimes I feel guilty about what we do” Susan added “My parents taught me all those things are wrong. Sex is only allowed when it is with your husband and only to procreate”
“Jesus!” Bella exclaimed with her mouth full of ice cream. She raised an eyebrow. No wonder Susan was like that.
“Didn’t your parents teach you that?”
Bella smirked “Yes, but I didn’t listen. They think I am still a virgin”
Susan blinked, then she looked away “I wonder what Mr. Black would say about our encounters”
Bella snorted “He will never know”
“What about Albert?”
“You can tell him you prefer girls and get a divorce”
Susan blushed everytime Bella said stuff like that and that made her adorable. She looked away.
“If you are so innocent, then why did you marry him?”
Bella still didn’t understand why Susan could stand up with a man like that.
“He was your boss and married to another woman”
“He divorced her”
“Recently divorced. Probably because of you”
Susan looked guilty.
“Albert was nice to me” she explained “We had chats, and he told me his problems, and he made me laugh… I’ve never had a friend before… And it felt as if I had one…” Susan sighed. When she said things like that, Bella’s heart ached. “And then one night, he offered to take me home and he kissed me before I got out of the car. …” Bellatrix thought about it and got immediately jealous. “ I thought it was love, because that’s what people do when they are in love. And then the next few days he promised me he was leaving his wife. So one day, he came all happy with the divorce papers. I remember he carried me and spinned me around, saying he was finally going to be with me… He didn’t care who was watching anymore. ..he was so romantic and gentle then. We went on our first date…” Susan’s eyes filled with tears “I was happy because he was happy…He was my best friend and I thought it was love…”
“I am your best friend now!” Bella snapped “You are gonna tell me everything, okay?”
Susan looked at her. Bellatrix looked away, embarrassed of what she had said.
“I am gonna help you, Susan” she added “We are gonna get rid of that wanker. I am not gonna let him hurt you again”
“I am scared of him hurting you” Susan blushed when she said it.
Maybe Bella cared about this girl more than she showed. Bella’s chest burned. But she tried to ignore it.
Bella smiled “He won’t be able to hurt me. I'm untouchable”
But that didn’t mean Bellatrix wasn’t afraid of that man. Runcorn had a particular way of talking to Bella that sent shivers down her spine. Susan and her had been careful, very careful to not be caught. But Bellatrix wasn’t sure if he actually knew something.
Months had gone by and Bellatrix was scared of how close she was getting with Susan. And how Susan seemed more and more comfortable around Bella. It was as if the shy, naive, submissive girl Bella had known had been left in the past. Susan was changing. Susan was getting a bit bolder. And she seemed happy and confident whatsoever. Bellatrix hated how much she was liking this new Susan. And all the many things she made her feel.
That afternoon, they were laying on Bella’s bed, naked under the covers, after having sex. And this time, Bella felt something more than pleasure. It had been softer, they took their time for kisses and tender touches. And this time, Bella wasn’t in a rush to get dressed and leave. She was getting warm, sleepy and very comfortable. She let Susan stare into her eyes. And Bellatrix stared back.
“I pictured your bedroom differently” Susan snorted.
“Oh yeah? How?”
“Not so pink and girly”
Bellatrix chuckled.
“Are you sure there is no one home?”
“Dad is at the office. Mum is on a trip with her friends… My sister Cissy is in a boarding school…And Andy…”
Bellatrix had found out a few days back what Andromeda had been doing. Bella and Andy used to be inseparable. But now they barely spoke to each other. They’d both been keeping secrets relationships. Bella with Susan. And Andy with the asshole of Tonks.
Bellatrix hated many people but Edward Tonks was on top of that list. As well as Runcorn. Bella couldn’t place why she hated him so much. Maybe it was the fact that he so common and unrefined. Maybe it was because he did everything to spoil her and her friends’ fun at school. Maybe it was because he and his little group thought they were better than everyone. She hated how Tonks defy her, even if she did the impossible to put him down and humiliate him.
But she hated him more now because he had Andromeda now. Tonks had manipulated her into being someone else. Andromeda was distant from their friend group. Andromeda had been complaining about everything they did, how much money they spent, what they did for fun. Andromeda had been lying to everyone, specially Rod, who had a thing for her and had the hope she felt the same. And she’d been lying to Bella. Her twin sister. The person she was supposed to love the most in this world. All of it to snog that wanker for a couple of hours. She was a traitor.
“Andromeda is…” Susan said, and Bella got out her trance.
“I don’t know” She didn’t want to talk about it “The point is that only the maid is here and she doesn’t dare to come in my room”
Susan sighed and nodded, she sat up and grabbed something from Bella’s night stand. A picture. It was a picture of Bella, Andy and Cissy when they were younger. All of them happy to be together. They were not only sisters but best friends. And now each one of them had taken their path. Bella felt nauseous.
“You were really pretty” Susan commented, looking at the picture “You still are”
Bella gave her a sift smile.
“I remember I thought about it the first time I saw you” Susan said “I was years ago. You and your sisters were visiting your father and the whole office was talking about you. So I was curious as well. The Black girls… And then when I saw you, I remember I couldn’t look away. Your sisters are pretty too, but you are…” she sighed “So much more…”
Bellatrix interrupted her with a kiss.And she put that picture away.  Plenty of people had called her pretty. But this time it mattered the most. She actually felt overwhelmed and there was that weird feeling again. How her chest burned and how she felt goosebumps, and how her tummy twisted.
Bella know what it meant. She wasn’t stupid. But she couldn’t.
Once they were done kissing, Susan laid her head on Bella’s chest. And Bellatrix was afraid she would hear how much her heart was beating.
“I think I am finally leaving Albert” she whispered.
Bella didn’t answer.
“I realized he doesn’t love me” Susan continued, and Bella felt a knot on her throat “He doesn’t treat me like you do, Bella. I feel amazing when I am with you”
Oh no…Please no…
Susan was silent for a second and then she added.
“I think I love you”
Bellatrix closed her eyes. Ever since she found out about her sister and Tonks, Bella realized many things. Even if Susan was so much better than Tonks. And Susan never tricked Bella like Tonks had done with Andy, Bellatrix was still doing the same stupid shit as Andromeda.
Bellatrix thought about what would happen, what would actually happen if she were to date Susan. As for real. Her parents would never accept it. Not only because she was another woman, but because she was married to one of their friends. She thought about what the office would say, another scandal to gossip about. Even the press would eat the story up. And Runcorn, he wouldn’t give up so easily. That man still left bruises around Susan’s body.
Bellatrix imagined being stupid enough to fight for love. Leave everything behind for this girl. Her parents, her sisters, her friends, her place in the Family, her richness and the fine life she had, and most importantly her dream. Bella had left it aside, too so blind and too stupid to focus only on Susan.
Bellatrix didn’t want to leave anything or anyone behind. Not for someone. Not for love.
Andromeda was stupid enough to do so. She was already neglecting her family, her friends, her true self, just to be with him. Andromeda had it all. It could be easy for her. She could have Rodolphus, or stay the fuck alone. But no, she preferred him. She had put that wanker before everything else. How stupid could she be?
And to think Bellatrix would do the same for Susan, seemed absurd. So Bellatrix couldn’t love her. She had to drown those feelings down.
So Bella didn’t respond.
“Maybe we can tell everyone and see how it goes”
“They’ll never accept it”
“Then we will run away…”
Bellatrix pushed Susan away and stood up. She needed to get the hell out of there. She needed some air desperately. She got dressed.
“Bella…” Susan insisted “I’ve never felt this way before…”
No answer.
“I want to fight for you” Susan added “Do you feel the same?”
Bella turned to see her once he put her t-shirt on.
“You’re not allowed to involve feelings in this, Susan”
Susan scooped closer.
“I know you feel the same”
“No”
If Susan got closer, Bella didn’t know what she was capable of. Maybe giving into this whatever it was. And she couldn’t. So Bellatrix walked to fix her hair on the mirror.
“Bella…”
“You’re getting confused” Bella snapped “I feel sorry for you Susan. You have been treated like shit by your parents, school mates, co-workers and even your husband. Just because I am nice to you it doesn’t mean anything”
Bella couldn’t look at Susan’s expression because she made herself busy with her makeup.
“You thought I loved you?” Bella snorted “It is called lust. The only thing I feel for you is the need to fuck you”
“I don’t believe you”
“Not my problem, darling”
Bellatrix’s heart was aching. Her lips were protesting to kiss Susan’s and take everything she was saying away. But Bellatrix was no fool. Not like Andromeda, She was on time to stop it, to end with these feelings.
“But Bella…” Susan’s crying voice returned, suddenly she was her vulnerable self again “I …I love you…”
Bellatrix sighed, and she turned furiously.
“What do you want from me?” she asked “You want to get divorced so we can be a cute lesbian couple and live happily ever after together?”
All of it sounded ridiculous. Susan needed to go down to earth. So as Andromeda.
“You want me to drop everything behind and run away with you?” Bella continued. She was being cruel “You might have a shitty life, honey. And I would understand if you want to leave the tosser of Runcorn. But my life is perfect. So don’t involve me into this”
Susan’s eyes filled with tears, and Bellatrix was reminded of how weak Susan actually was. Bella was making a good decision now. Even if it hurt.
“I was willing to continue with this as long as it was purely sexual” Bella added “But I think we should stop this now. Before it gets worse”
Susan sighed, she wiped her tears and got dressed very quickly.
“You are right…maybe this should’ve never begun” she whispered as she grabbed her horrible shoes.
Don’t let her go! A voice said inside of Bellatrix’s brain. But she just watched her put on her shoes, and put on her jacket. And Bella didn’t do anything.
Susan grabbed her purse at last. She was gonna leave but she stopped to add something.
“You know, Bella, you are not actually cruel and you’re not actually heartless” she said “You have a big heart…”
Susan’s voice broke. Bella swallowed her tears.
“You are kind, you are gentle, and you care too deeply about the people you love… And that’s beautiful of you…” she added “Shame you cover that side of you up”
Bellatrix didn’t answer. She just pretended not to care.
Susan began crying as she ran away and slammed the door behind her. The minute she was gone, Bellatrix’s eyes filled with tears. She wondered how life would be without Susan’s lips, without touching her skin, without her softness, without her innocence and her vulnerability. And Bella felt really cold.
Bellatrix sobbed a few times, but then she stopped. She wiped her tears off and recomposed herself. Bella was strong; she didn’t need Susan, or any of this. She had to focus on her dream again. Nothing was going to hurt anymore once she was powerful and rich. The owner and queen of everything.
And also, Bella needed to think of a way to get Edward Tonks away from her sister. And she was capable of anything to succeed. And bloody Malfoy was next. Cissy didn’t deserve him. Bella was going to get her sisters back.

When you were placed into Gryffindor you thought it was a mistake. There was no way with your long line of Slytherin pureblood, that you'd be a Gryffindor. Not that you thought there was anything wrong with that. You never cared to live up to people's expectations or what people thought of you, even though your parents did. And despite your family's attempts at making you see their way, you never could. There was no superior bloodline, you were all equal. But you played your part so you wouldn't hear the lectures or deal with all the drama. You didn't partake in the bullying or the maltreatment of muggle-borns or half-bloods like every other pureblood; you didn't see the need. You kind of just stood by or left whenever your friends would tantalize others.
However, when you got sorted you weren't the silent one while others bullied and tortured others who weren't deemed worthy in the eyes; you were the one getting bullied. The first few years you wanted to fight back but eventually, there were too many for you to handle. So you just dealt with it. At the parties that the pureblood families had thrown-- which your family was invited to-- your parents had advised you to try to blend in and not draw attention to yourself. For the most part, you did.
Regulus, your best friend tried to get you out of your shell. You tried to convince him that it wasn't you but your parents. You would've love to enjoy yourself at the parties, being dressed up and all that. But with your situation, you couldn't afford to make a fool out of yourself, and drinking firewhiskey in different rooms or sneaking off to where your parents couldn't keep an eye on you, wasn't a good idea. When you and Regulus were older your parents had set an arranged marriage between you two. Uniting rich and powerful families and all that. But You and Regulus were just the best of friends, always together. And just like everything else, that had to change. You now had to find ways to see each other in hidden places. Never to be seen together in front of students or staff in case it would get back to your parents. In Hogwarts you ignored each other, magically passing notes to update each other on your well-being. It was tough but you managed. Regulus was your only friend after all.
~~~
It was just another day at Hogwarts, You were avoiding Bellatrix Lestrange. Your main terrorizer. She had a group of Slytherins trailing her. Ever since you got sorted into Gryffindor every pureblood who was in Slytherin, taunted and teased you to no end. They jinxed you and called you weak. Saying things about how you weren't one of them. You knew that much but you didn't need the constant reminder.
Bellatrix and her group were right behind you as you were walking to the Gryffindor common room. You cursed in your mind, they saw you.
"Going somewhere L/N?" You ignored her. "You know it's rude to not answer your superiors."
"I'm not trying to bother anyone Bellatrix." You sighed but kept walking.
"Your presence alone bothers me." She sent a spell your way to catch your attention.
"Are you crazy?" You turned to face her, Your voice raising a bit. An amused smile played on her lips, she tilted her head to the side.
"You have no idea what crazy looks like Y/N/N." She stalked towards you in a predatory way.
"We grew up together Bellatrix," You slowly backed away from her so as to not set her off. "Name-calling and pranks are one thing but curses..."
You didn't know what you did to cause the special attention that others like first years or Muggle-borns got from Bellatrix. Sure you were never that close, you always got along better with Andromeda than Narcissa and the former, but never would you have thought that you'd be on the receiving end of her fury over blood status. This was outrageous you thought to yourself. How could anyone be this upset over what house people are in?
"Don't worry, after a while, they won't hurt." Your blood started to rush through your veins and a shiver ran down your spine. You stopped walking backward when you bumped into something behind you. A pair of arms held you to keep you steady. You turned around expecting another one of Bellatrix's "friends" only to be met with a tall, shaggy-haired boy.
Sirius Black, your best friend's older brother, who just so happened to be in your house. Relief washed over you. You were no longer outnumbered. Sirius and his group of Marauders were there. Surely they wouldn't just walk away from a fellow Gryffindor in trouble. Of course you never really had an affiliation with them besides the same color robes but they were good people, weren't they?
"We heard something about pranks?" James spoke.
Bellatrix scoffed, "This is none of your business Potter."
"Well Bellatrix considering how Y/N is a member of our house, it does make this our business," Remus replied. She cackled, "How fitting the two blood-traitors in one pitiful little group." She signaled the others to follow her and walked away.
"Are you alright?" Sirius asked, not letting go of your shoulders.
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"C'mon we were just going back to the common room." He let go of your shoulders but tugged on the sleeve of your robe to follow them.
"What did you do to cause the wrath of crazy over there?" James questioned. He led the way to the common room, you kept your distance not really trusting any of them. Their reputation for being the school's signature pranksters didn't ease your mind as you walked with them. You never held a conversation with any of them before today, maybe a few with Remus but he was the only sane one out of all of them, it made sense that you were wary of their presence. Who knows what they had planned.
"Does anyone have to do anything at all to provoke her?" Sirius snorted, you gave him a questioning look and he just shrugged.
"No, I suppose not."
"Well Y/N I guess you could call yourself lucky your knight in shining armors were there to save the day." James' cocky smile written on his face assuming he was right.
"Although I appreciate the help, I could've handled myself." You stepped into the portrait hole, anxious to get back into your dorm room and take a nap.
"Not against all of them, you know sometimes you need to run in a pack L/N, you could get killed without one."
"You make it sound like we're wolves," you stated, each attempt to get back to your room was failed by every comment James made. What was his point?
"Some of us aren't," Sirius commented. You noticed Remus got tense and slightly shook his head.
"Point is Bellatrix and her groupies aren't going to quit bothering you and we want to help." James offered.
"What's the catch?"
"Why does there have to be catch? We want to be your friends." Sirius answered and plopped down on the chair across from the couch where you were sitting. You gave him a dead look. "Just think about it, hm?"
"Whatever." You got up from your seat and went to your dorm to take your well-needed nap.
Later that night you went down to the common room to read by the fire until you fell asleep. You felt like you'd only closed your eyes for 2 seconds when you were rudely awakened by Sirius.
"What?" You hissed. His mischievous grin made you want to slap him.
"You're coming with me." He took the blanket that you had wrapped around you, off.
"No." You said simply, reaching for the blanket again. Just as your eyes were beginning to close again you heard him say, "Yes."
He lifted you in his arms and you dramatically fell limp. "What the hell." You groaned loudly.
"Shh you're going to people up," You glared at him.
"Maybe they should wake up since I'm being kidnapped!" He rolled his eyes. You jumped from his arms so you could stand on your own.
"Where are we going?" You asked, Slowly recovering from being awoken.
"You'll see." That was all he responded as he continued to guide you out of the portrait hole and through the halls. You were anxious, in all the years of Hogwarts you never went out past curfew so you didn't know the chances of being caught and getting in trouble.
"Sirius, Filch may be out here." You warned.
"We'll be fine Y/N/N just trust me."
"I don't trust you that's my problem." You muttered. He turned around and looked at you. His piercing grey eyes shining in the darkness. He pulled out a long cloak from who knows where and wrapped it around the both of you, causing you to be closer together.
"This will keep us hidden so Filch won't catch us." The weight in your chest lifted and now replaced by butterflies. You inhaled sharply at the close proximity.
"You alright?"
You nodded, which gave him the confirmation he needed to continue, "Let's go."
When you made it to your destination you gasped. The astronomy tower, "Wow" you whispered, shedding yourself from the cloak. The night sky hadn't looked as beautiful as it did at that very moment. You've been here for class but you've never seen the stars so bright, you wondered what special cosmic event it must've been for the night sky to look the way it did.
You whipped around remembering who you were here with, you crossed your arms, "Why did you bring me here?"
"I can't take you sight-seeing now?"
"I had this class yesterday, this is hardly what I'd call sight-seeing." You arched a brow upwards. "Besides we're not exactly friends..." He gasped and feigned hurt by putting a hand over his heart.
"After all we've been through?" You rolled your eyes. He continued, "I was hoping we could change that. The boys and I have noticed you've been struggling socially and don't really play well with others, but I've seen the way you interacted with my brother before Hogwarts and you enjoy the company. I had to wonder why is it that you don't have that many friends?"
"Not that it's any of your business, but since I got sorted into Gryffindor my old "friends" and family haven't been that accepting considering the fact that they're all Slytherins, I mean you should know how it is." You sighed and took a seat resting your back against a wall facing the night sky. "The people I used to get along with, well, their parents don't want them to spend time with me. As for not having friends in our house, nobody has tried to get to know me, they just assume I'm like the other Slytherins even though I was placed here for a reason." You scoffed, people truly were ridiculous. "It sucks cause every side thinks I've chosen to be apart of what they go against when in reality I'm not apart of anything."
He stared at you, you then realized that you went on a full-on rant and nervously looked down, picking at your nails. He'd been silent the entire time listening. It was nice, "You could be apart of us."
You were skeptical, "Sirius this isn't funny." You moved to get up.
"It's not a joke Y/N." He chuckled.
"You're not being very convincing right now."
"Why would I lie to you?"
"We've barely spoken to each other in all these years of Hogwarts, even before Hogwarts!" you threw your hands in the hair. "I went over your house for playdates with Reg and never had one conversation. You and your friends have a reputation for pranks, How do I know this isn't one of them?"
"Because I'm not trying to prank you Y/n, in fact, I'm trying to help you. We all are." He put his hands on your shoulders to get you to look at him. "I know how it feels to be all alone in a world like that. To be in an environment where you feel uncomfortable with those people. Knowing all the wrong things they say and not being able to say anything because they'll disown you."
"The difference between you and me is that you got out." You shoved his hands off your shoulders. "Not all of us have a James."
"Y/n-"
"I'll think about it." With that, you left, not caring if you were to get caught.
If you were being honest the reason why you didn't want to be friends with the marauders was that they had 3 years to be friends with you, you knew Sirius from years prior. Why didn't he come to you sooner? Knowing you had been friends with his little brother. He just sat there and watched while you spent the first 3 and a half years of what should've been the most fun years of your life at Hogwarts, lonely and sad. If his defense was that he could sympathize with your situation and that he wanted to help; why didn't he approach you sooner? Also, you might've been a little bitter about him having a place to go to while you still had to stay with your parents.
~~~
You did think about after that Night with Sirius, you decided you give them a chance. You wouldn't be cornered alone anymore or hopefully cornered at all. You would have a group now. You also thought it was great that you had someone you could relate to in the group and someone that you somewhat knew. You never thought that you'd be actual friends with your childhood crush, even if that was your best friend's older brother and you'd spend more time in his house than your own most days; but here you were.
Being a part of the Marauders was fun, you were practically family now. They let you in on their little secret; with Remus' permission of course. They informed you of his full moon situation. They offered to help you become an animagus, which you denied, you didn't want to deal with all of that. You helped James with Lily, it wasn't easy but it worked somehow. You would help them with their pranks. They pulled pranks on the people who used to bully you all the time which you appreciated greatly. It was nice knowing they had your back and they knew you had theirs.
Nobody messed with you now and you gained a few more friends now. Lily, Alice, Dorcas, and Mary. It was all great. Except for your growing crush on a certain Marauder. With every moment you spent with him your heart swelled, it wasn't a great idea to get involved with him in that way. You were his brothers best friend, he'd seen you grow up, and took you under his wing when you were in need (you always thought even if he truly wanted to be your friend, it was a sort of favor for Regulus since he couldn't be there) there was no way he would be interested in you. But you had always hoped.
You remembered one Christmas that your parents had forced you to go to a party that the Malfoys would throw annually. It was terrible. You didn't have your friends there with you and Regulus couldn't talk to you with his parents watching. The blacks were suspicious of you spending more time with their son, who they disowned and like every other parent at that party, they didn't want Regulus to associate with you. So you were alone again. The only perk of this entire thing was you didn't have to completely show your face since it was a masquerade ball theme.
Evan Rosier came up to you, your eyes narrowed and you tilted your head in question. "Shame you spend your time with those blood traitors Y/N, I would have asked you out."
"I think I lucked out on that one Rosier." You took a sip from your drink shifting your gaze to somewhere else.
"You filthy little-"
"Careful what your next words are, my friend, I don't think Mummy and Daddy would appreciate it much." A voice that came from behind you said.
"You are not even supposed to be here, Black."
"Sirius!" You threw your arms around his neck, he wrapped his around your waist. You heard Evan scoff and leave.
"Y/N darling, have I told you that you attract way too much trouble."
"No, but I'm starting to think you're right." You pulled away from him, realizing that you were in the eyesight of your parents. "What are you doing here? Your parents will kill you if they see you here."
"I couldn't let you come here alone, with all these people." He looked around with distaste.
"Alright well, we have to find a more private place so you won't get caught." You grabbed his hand in yours and led the way to the maze garden.
"Y/N if you wanted to get into my pants, all you had to do was ask." He wiggled his eyebrows, You shoved him away. "Gross."
"Okay so I didn't tell you this but James and I are breaking you out of here."
"How the hell are you planning on doing that?"
"Easy, a distraction." You were about to ask what the distraction was when you saw a stag through the windows. Screams of the people were coming from the inside. You put a hand over your mouth to cover your smile. You did not expect that at all. Sirius retook your hand and pulled you deeper into the maze when the guests were filing out.
You stopped when you were finally in the middle, there was an enchanted fountain spewing water. you had a rush of energy and laughed. Sirius was looking down at you.
"Where'd James go?"
"He should be coming soon." He replied. It was quiet for a while before Sirius scooped up water from the fountain and threw it at you. You gasped, "You asshole!"
You dipped your hand in the water and flicked it at him. This started a war between the two of you. You ducked behind the fountain and threw water at him whenever you got the chance and he did the same. It wasn't until you heard footsteps coming that you stopped.
"Y/N?" You remembered that voice, you whipped around quickly and almost fell into the water if it wasn't for Sirius who had put a hand on your back to catch you.
"Reg?" He ran to you and wrapped his arms around you, picking you up and twirling you around. Once he put you down he pulled you away at arm's length to observe you.
"You're wet." He stated, confused.
"Water fight." you smile into the response. He laughed and threw his head back.
"Only you." Sirius coughed, you almost forgot he was there.
"Hello, brother." Regulus nodded to him. "It's been a while, I've missed you."
"Have you?" You gave Sirius a look, now was not the time. This was the first time you've seen Regulus in months, years even. You didn't need them to argue.
"We should talk." He suggested, You agreed and strolled along the maze with Regulus, noticing that the guests have all returned inside.
"So you escaped your parents." You started talking.
"So I did." he glanced at you. "But only for a bit, they'll start to wonder where I've gone. I just needed to see you."
"Yeah me too."
"I just wanted to let you know that I can't write to you anymore." Your brows furrowed in confusion. "Why not?"
"It's not safe."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"Just know things are about to get serious and dangerous and I have to do things that I know you won't agree with to keep you safe."
"Reg, I-I don't know what you're saying."
"Soon enough you will." He stopped walking. "I needed you to know before I cut ties with you, that I love you. You're my best friend and I never want you to get hurt." You felt the tears forming.
"I love you too." He caresses your cheek and kisses them both before saying his final Goodbye. You were left standing there trying to decipher his words.
Eventually, you found yourself back where you and Sirius were playing with water. He was sitting on the edge of the fountain. He stood up when he saw you and your tearstained cheeks. He wrapped you in a hug.
"I'm glad you came." You whispered, hugging him back. He kissed the top of your head and told you that it was time to go. You went to James' house, you spent Christmas and summers there from then on. You never returned home. You slept in the guest bedroom and Sirius stayed with James in his room. Your parents sent you a letter telling you that you were no longer welcome at their house since you chose to associate yourself with bad company that was ruining their reputation. You didn't care much about it, knowing you had a better family now.
It wasn't until you graduated from Hogwarts that you figured out what Regulus was talking about. The war was getting more serious, Lily and James had to go into hiding, you and Sirius had joined the order, you became partners on missions, your bond growing more and more every day.
~~~
"There's too many of them Y/N we need to go back to headquarters!" Sirius yelled over the sounds of fighting. This was supposed to be a quick mission to find out where Voldemort was going to attack next. Hopefully saving a family and your best friends. But as always nothing went according to plan, you didn't drink enough poly juice potion that let you take the face of a death eater that you and Sirius had captured. You didn't bring the flask with you so in the middle of asking questions you transformed back into your true form, which then brought on the fighting.
"No! You go and get the others," A curse was sent your way, you blocked it. "I can fight them off in the meantime!"
"There's no way I'm leaving you with all of these death eaters!"
"Well I'm not going, we just need to catch one and get the information we need!" You continued to duel with Evan Rosier who was easily blocking all of your offensive spells. 'Shit' was all you thought. Six against two were not great odds and you were getting tired. Sirius made a point of retreating. If you were to leave now, you lost the element of surprise and they would be expecting you next time. That or they would retaliate. Great just great, all because you forgot to bring extra poly juice potion.
"Now is not the time to play hero, we can try another day." He took your hand and apparated you to a random alley in another part of London, but not before you were struck with a stinging spell.
"Fuck-" Tears stung in your eyes, Sirius was rushing towards you screaming your name.
The next thing you know you were waking up in a bright room. You assumed you were at St. Mungos. Memories of the moments before you were brought her played in your head. You slowly opened your eyes you turned your head to the sound of snoring. Sirius was sitting in a chair beside your bed. Despite feeling like shit you decided to throw a pillow at his head to wake him up. He sat up quickly, eyes wide staring at you.
"What the fuck?"
"Even when you're asleep you are annoying."
"I'm sorry I was up all night taking care of your dumb-ass."
"Apology accepted." You broke into a smile when you saw his face. He was so...serious. You could never let go of that joke.
"I'm not joking around, you were bad like so bad I thought I lost you."
"Siri-" You sat up in your bed.
"No Y/N I don't think you understand how serious this situation was. You had seizures and might've slipped into a coma. You've been in and out for days now." Your smile faded. "I-I thought I was going to lose you and I can't, not you." He shook his head, running a hand through his hair.
"Sirius, we all get injured, it happens. It's apart of the job."
"Yes but you're different."
"How? How is it any different than if this were to happen to Remus or James or any of the others?"
"Because I love you!" You tried to process his words. He searched your eyes for any response but you were in shock. He spoke softly, "It's different from the others because I am in love with you. I have been for a while.
"You don't have to say it back, you probably don't-" You grabbed him by the collar of his leather jacket and kissed him.
"You're an idiot." You kiss him once more and looked him in the eyes and said "I'm in love with you too."
Your lips were centimeters apart. It seemed too late to change course, but he had to ask. He had never done something so reckless, which for him, was saying something. “Are you sure?”
He was scared of the answer. One look at you told him you were scared of answering. “We’ve never… I mean, I’ve never done this before,” you whispered. Your noses grazed against each other, tantalizingly close.
His hand hovered underneath your robes. It felt large against your bare stomach. “We can stop.”
“I don’t want to stop.” With one hand around his neck and the other on his chest, you tugged him closer. The moment your lips met erased his doubts so fully that if he stopped to think about it, it would have scared him.
Your shoes slipped off as he delicately lifted you off of your feet. Gently, he laid you down on his bed and paused to stare at how small and trusting you looked in the moment. It was only your fifth visit to his flat, yet you already looked like you belonged. He would never have expected someone from his forgotten life to fit into his current one so unquestionably.
*One Week Earlier*
It was getting easier and easier to slip away from Regulus these days. While you were accustomed to seeing less of each other during the summer holidays, now you were more distant than ever. You knew why, of course. Being a Slytherin, you were privy to an entire host of secrets – Regulus was too. Hogwarts’ rowdiest, most divided class graduated just a month earlier, and many of your friends, if you could even call them that, had chosen a side in this war. His side.
You knew Regulus agreed with the Dark Lord’s philosophies and marveled at his promises. However, it was not until this school year that you realized exactly how much your boyfriend worshipped the elusive man responsible for the murders of so many innocent people. He would scour the Daily Prophet for news, eager but not uneasy. He trailed after Snape, Avery, and Mulciber, and the whisperings about the three of them were hardly positive. It was rumored that all of them had been "marked." You didn’t know exactly what that meant but worried Regulus was next.
He sensed your fear but didn’t say much to soothe you. Perhaps he thought he could convince you to join him – or, at least, stand by his side as he signed away his services. You weren’t interested. In fact, you were terrified. Though your family was prominent, prosperous, and pureblood, they never participated in what your father coined to be “blood politics.” Your indifference, which occasionally transformed into blatant disgust, over the growingly common prejudice among your peers ostracized you from your fellow Slytherins. You managed to keep your reservations to yourself for the sake of House unity but could no longer remain silent. Not when your childhood love drifted further and further away from you.
It was slow, but of course, there was a final straw. In his last letter, Regulus wrote that his cousin Bella was teaching him how to duel “the proper way.” As someone who saw nothing substandard in your Defense Against the Dark Arts education thus far, you could only imagine what Bellatrix Lestrange would consider to be the “proper” way to duel. You had limited experience with the woman, having only caught glimpses of her as a child at Grimmauld Place and as Regulus’s date to her wedding. Nonetheless, the rumors about her were becoming increasingly hard to ignore.
So you sought the one person you thought may listen to you. Of course, there was the issue of finding him. You had no idea where he lived, though you doubted he would be thrilled to meet you, especially at his place of residence. You thought of writing to him but could not risk seeing and sending the words you had not yet uttered aloud.
Ultimately, you decided that the best course of action was to find him in public, no matter how difficult it would be. You knew if you willed it hard enough, fate would bring him to you – and you understood the power of your love better than anyone.
It took six days of solitary walks through Diagon Alley for you to finally find him. It wasn’t easy at all. You managed to keep your parents at bay by entrusting your safety with your pureblood Slytherin status. However, what was once the most bustling shopping center in the Wizarding World became drearier by day. More wanted posters appeared on brick walls as the number of disappearances grew. Within days, there were fewer groups of visitors for you to huddle behind without drawing suspicion.
He was in the Leaky Cauldron with a shorter man, someone you recognized to be Peter Pettigrew. They were huddled together but deep in conversation. Actually, it seemed as though he was doing most of the talking. You found yourself staring at his muscular, tattooed arms as he gestured wildly at Pettigrew, who stared at him with wonder, excitement, and apprehension all at once. Despite the normal-looking exchange, both men gripped their wands tightly and took turns periodically glancing over their shoulders.
Peter was too far away for you to read his lips, but checked his watch and jumped in surprise. You inched closer, hoping to find an in for your mission. Finally, you were close enough to hear his parting words. “Sorry, Padfoot... Mum’s waiting for me. You know how she gets, especially now.”
“Alright, mate. Get home safe. I’ll see you… when I see you.”
You were not stupid. You had no idea what that meant, but judging by Peter’s stiff nod, there was definitely a predetermined meeting time and place that they could not risk anyone overhearing. Given the circumstances, you could hardly blame them.
Your interaction with Sirius Black was limited, but you had heard enough about him to know that he was reckless, devil-may-care, and according to his brother, inconsiderate of everyone’s feelings. Hearing the sincerity in his goodbye to his friend sounded quite the opposite, or perhaps was just a sign of the times.
Peter scurried away and out of sight. You saw Sirius reach for a pouch in his pocket, out of which he scooped a handful of Sickles. They clattered onto the table. Before he finished counting his change, you slid into the seat across from him.
Startled, Sirius stood and pointed his wand at you. His motions were seamless. It was as if he could kill you with a single swish. You hardly had time to wonder if you would be as skilled with your wand as he seemed to be when you finished school. “Listen, I just want to talk. Please sit down.” There weren’t too many other customers in the pub, but there was no doubt your exchange was attracting attention.
Sirius sneered at you. “Why would I want to talk to you? Did he send you? Whatever it is, I don’t want to hear it.”
It surprised you that he knew who you were. Regulus was convinced that Sirius abandoned the Black family once and for all and did not care for his extracurricular activities. Granted, much of your scheme relied on the fact that he did. “No, he didn’t send me. I need to talk to you about him, actually. In private.”
He looked apprehensive but curious. You sighed in relief as he lowered his wand and sat down, “Whatever you have to say, you can say it here.”
“Please,” you tried again. “I’m no threat to you.”
He stared at you, and in his pale eyes you saw something so familiar yet so foreign. “Fine. Follow me.”
He swiftly led you out of the pub. Although you were eager, you maintained an acceptable distance from him. The air was sticky; you could feel your flushed cheeks. You always hated summer because of the unbearable weather and because it was always the longest you would spend apart from Regulus. However, you found yourself entranced by the way Sirius’s neckline glistened. There was a warm glow radiating off of the little bits of his exposed skin, slightly tanner than his brother’s. You were surprised at how easy it was to distinguish these details. You always considered yourself to be too young for and morally above noticing Regulus’s physique. It was far too shallow to remark on a man's physical beauty and far too desperate when all you could see were his neck and arms.
“Get your license yet?”
You shook your head. “No, not yet.”
“Okay,” said Sirius, extending a hand. “I’ll take you with me.”
You were used to Side-Along Apparition, so your surprise was more at your surroundings. You landed on a street in front of a very tall building. Craning your neck to observe the one in front of you, you asked, “Where are we?”
“London,” he answered vaguely. He had not let go of your hand.
“I figured. But this looks like a Muggle building.”
“Got a problem with that?” He snapped, and as if he had just realized what he was doing, he let go of your hand as if it was rotting.
You internally groaned at how sweaty it was. “N-No. I’ve just never been around here, that’s all.”
You waited for a snarky response, but received none. Instead, he pushed open the door of the building and led your to what you could only assume was his flat.
“I would say make yourself at home, but don’t.” Sirius did not have guests often, and when he did, they definitely did not include his little brother’s girlfriend. Damn, he thought to himself. Wait until James hears about this.
You were still in school – although, so was he, just a month earlier. But you were in a rival house. And worst of all, he had seen you in the same position, perched onto a sofa with inquisitive eyes, when you both were children at his parents’ house. It was curious to him that you looked just as out of place then as you did now.
“I know this is strange, but I have no other choice.” Your voice broke off and for the tiniest millisecond, he felt sorry for you. “I think he’s… I mean I feel that… that R-Regulus is planning on joining the Dark Lord.” “Call him Voldemort, will you?” Sirius interrupted irritably.
You flinched. “I really shouldn’t.”
Though he was annoyed, he understood and did not probe you further. “Listen, I don’t know what you thought trying to find me, or even how you found me for that matter, but I can’t help you. I know what you’re worried about and you’re probably right to be worried. But I tried talking to him before I ran – I mean, left. He won’t budge. He’s in too deep. Sorry,” he added.
Your eyes glossed over. “I figured you’d say that.” Tears streamed down your rosy cheeks. “S-Sorry, I don’t mean to load this on you. I just feel so alone sometimes. And so scared for him. He really has no idea what he’s getting himself into, does he?”
Sirius stared at you, contemplating whether he should tell you what his dim-witted brother was really getting himself into. He only started to see it for himself now. “I’m not sure what I should tell you, but I understand. If you want to talk about it…”
You glanced at him in wonder, cocking your head to the side. “Er, thanks. But I should get home. My parents must be worried. Can I Floo out of here?”
You looked even more upset than before, and Sirius felt guilty for leaving everything so unresolved. Although, should he really care about your feelings? Anyone who willingly chose to spend time with a tosser like Regulus probably deserved whatever hell he would put them through… although…
“Yeah, I installed one,” he said, gesturing to the fireplace.
Wiping your eyes nimbly, you stood and smoothed the front of your robes. “Thank you. Sorry if it was a bother.”
“No problem. I know… I know that you aren’t like them. And I know what you’re going through. Probably better than anyone.”
You smiled at him, and without warning, his stomach flipped. It couldn’t have been the first time he’d seen you smile, but it was definitely the first time you smiled at him. Maybe you had once before when you were children. For now, all Sirius seemed to hone in on was the soft dimple on your right cheek and the way your eyes lit up almost automatically.
“If you ever need to talk about it, you can always come around here.” He knew it was strange for him to offer you that, but you had known each other for so long. You both had the same doubts… perhaps you lacked the bravery to act on them as he did, though he could hardly fault you for that.
“Thank you, Sirius,” you said softly.
It was more than sex. You would spend hours talking, entangled in his bedsheets, watching the sunrise together for several mornings in a row. Sirius glanced warily at the clock on his bedside table. “Where do your parents think you are?”
You were drawing circles on his bare chest. “I told them I was with him.”
Despite being the reason you sought him out, it became an unspoken rule between the two of you to not mention his name. The subject of Regulus and, by extension, the war became as taboo as saying Lord Voldemort.
He hated it. He tried to convince himself that he was acting on lust, that he just needed to relieve his stress of the war and Order training, but he couldn’t. Not when every time you arrived unannounced, he scribbled excuses to get out of dinner with the Potters, or drinks with the boys, or hell, even Order meetings.
Sirius wished he could explain it to James. Surely, his best friend would convince him of the stupidity of engaging in an affair with his brother’s girlfriend. But then he would watch you wearing his shirt, sipping wine, and dancing barefoot in his kitchen. He would imagine you wrapping your arms around his waist on his new motorcycle and his insides would implode. Then, he would decide that he did not want to be dissuaded. He was falling for you. One look at you told him you were falling for him too.
“Where have you been, mate? The parents are driving me up a wall about you. Lily’s convinced you’ve got a girlfriend or something,” joked James.
They were sitting in the pub on a night Sirius knew you had a family function to attend. He swallowed bitterly as he wondered whether or not Regulus would be there. Were you together right now? Did you confess? Was he angry? Were you crying?
Noticing his best friend’s silence, James raised an eyebrow. “Do you? Have a girlfriend or something?”
Sirius knew he could not lie to James, but he debated exactly how much he wanted to delve into the subject. “Or something.” Before he could he stop himself, the secrets were spilling off of his tongue.
When he finished, Sirius wasn’t sure if he felt better or worse. He tried to focus on James’s hazel eyes as they widened at every turn in the story. “Mate… you’re fucked.”
He tried not to ponder at these words too hard in the hopes that he wouldn’t splinch himself Apparating back to his flat. It didn’t shock him to see you there – he had allowed you too much access to everything and he had no intention of taking it back.
Emerald green dress robes were slipping off of your shoulders. With pearls draped around your neck and pieces of hair straying out of your topknot, Sirius could not help but swoon at how beautiful you looked. He wondered briefly what it would have been like if you had chosen him over Regulus. What if there was no foul play? Would you be happy? Or would you run away, as you had with his brother?
He was still tipsy. James’s warnings ran scattered in his brain, ringing like a siren. But they mattered little now that you were in front of him. “How was–”
“I don’t want to talk about it,” you interrupted. Then you stepped forward and tugged at his half-unbuttoned shirt, pressing your lips against his. “Make me forget.”
“Consider it done.”
Your bare limbs tangled together as you shared wine-drunk, open-mouthed, sporadic kisses, giggling and whispering words of sensual encouragement. How did you become so in sync in a matter of weeks? Sirius had never fallen this hard. “I’m yours, (Y/N).”
You hummed in satisfaction, fingers wound up in his hair.
“I mean it,” he urged. “I love you.”
You didn’t respond. Strange, he thought to himself. You never hesitated in reciprocating, ever. When he jumped, you jumped with him, no questions asked. He glanced at the clock from over your shoulder and watched it strike midnight. It was the first of September. “You’re due at King’s Cross today, aren’t you?”
You nodded, not meeting his eyes.
He chuckled darkly. All of a sudden, he felt cold and strangled. He wanted to push you far away and yet, pull you close to him so you had no hope of escaping. “Will you write to me?”
“Sirius…”
“Don’t,” he snapped. “Don’t say my name like that. I should have known… fucking snake.”
He hadn’t let go of you. “I’m sorry darling,” you whispered, “but I can’t give up on him yet.”
It was all he had to hear. He couldn’t think of how he was going to recover from this, not when you were lying right in front of him. “I think you should go.”
“M-Maybe someday we can–” “Forget it.” He should have seen this coming from the second you walked up to him in the pub. You had come to him for Regulus and now you were leaving him for Regulus. Yet another bit of happiness his brother snatched away from him. But even so... he was your first and Regulus would never know. He would never know that you lost yourself in him. His no-good elder brother. But none of that mattered now, not when you were going back to him. After all, at the end of the day, you were his.
I should have known. Sirius silently cursed at himself, watching the retreating figure of the girl he had fallen in love with. He should have known that you were always on borrowed time. You were gone quicker than the seasons change, and left with him your sweaty, sun-kissed memories.
George Weasley — Obliviate Part 1
Tumblr media
Summary: In order to protect the Weasleys and Hermione from getting endangered by the Ministry, you and your brother, Harry Potter, had to make a hard decision to Obliviate their memories of you two. Even, your boyfriend, George Weasley whom you swore to love until the very end.
Words: 2,728 words
Warnings ⚠ : Angst, Tears (loads), Constant Pain™
Disclaimer : I imagined this scene takes place after the death of Sirius Black, so any incorrect things that you noticed, please let me know!
---------------------------------------------------
"NO, I DON'T WANT TO DO THIS." You cried out in desperation, eyes literally begging Harry to take back his words. You watched your brother heaved a deep breath, trying to maintain a calm and steady voice. "Y/N, we have no choice. If we don't continue with this plan, they will get hurt, or worse, they will die. Surely you don't want that to happen, do you?"
"But Obliviating them? Is there any less cruel way for us to protect them, Harry? They're our family!" You tried again, the tears in your eyes were threatening to come out, the idea of removing yourselves from the memories of people you both love is so terrifying, so terrifying you loathed the idea to the core.
"DO YOU THINK I WANT TO DO THIS? HOW MANY MORE PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE BECAUSE OF US, Y/N?! FIRST MUM, DAD AND THEN CEDRIC AND NOW SIRIUS." Harry shouted in pain. His lips quivered, yet he shows no sign of crying. "Voldermort wants us, Y/N. He doesn't want the Weasleys, or Hermione, or Remus or even Tonks. He, wants, us." Harry found his voice and said it firmly.
"B-but..." You stuttered. "But what, Y/N?" Harry asked. "What about George? And Ginny? You really want them to forget about us? Do you?" And by the mention of George, the tears fell down, rolling down your cheeks. You couldn't possibly bare the thought of George forgetting you. Forgetting your memories, your adventures together. They're far too precious to be forgotten.
Harry faltered for a moment by the mention of Ginny, yet he was adamant. "We have no choice. This is the only way to protect them from Voldemort, even if it means them not remembering us anymore." You couldn't shake away the quiver in his voice, you knew Harry loathed the idea as well.
But alas, you had no other choice.
You looked around, it's the Burrow. After the heated discussion with Harry, you have no other want in you life than to find George Weasley, and be able to say goodbye. And so you Apparated to the Burrow, right in front of Fred and George's room.
You opened the door, and by the looks of it the redhead twins were already fast asleep. Fred lightly snoring at the right, and George looking rather comfortable with the blanket wrapping him perfectly. Upon seeing the peacefully sleeping George, you felt tears threatening to trickle down your cheeks again. The tears in your eyes, no matter how much have been shed, will never go over the pain in your heart, screaming not to Obliviate your lover.
You didn't realize you had been staring at George until the latter opened his eyes sleepily, "Y/N? Love, is that you?" You sniffed and smiled softly at poor sleepy George, "Missed me, Weasley?" You said with a slow voice, trying not to wake Fred up.
George was still dizzy from waking up from sleep, so he just laid on his back, and opened his arms at you, "Come here." George said groggily. That simple adorable act made you giggle, and you climbed on the bed to lay on top of him, your head on his chest.
The moment you came and embrace him, George wrapped his arms and legs around you, acting as if you're a cuddle pillow. And then he turned both of you to the right, making you stifle a chuckle more, "Well, aren't you adorable." You muttered to him, whilst his eyes were still closed.
The silence filled the room once again. George was sleeping, and you examined his features that you had examined before loads of times.
Only this time, you want to remember it forever. The way his light coloured eyelashes curled slightly upwards, the way the freckles on his face decorate the canvas like stars to the sky, the way his nose would wiggle once in a while, the way his soft thin lips would just be there, waiting to be touched.
George Weasley is an utterly, beautiful man.
You find yourself tearing up once more, the pain in your heart had starting to become unbearable. You let your hand cup your mouth, as to not let out any whimpers or loud sobs, as another hand went to George's head, playing and caressing his red hair.
This feeling. It physically hurts your heart. It literally felt like your heart has been made into a ping-pong ball, being beaten here and there but had to keep moving for the sake of your life. Nothing could go over this pain, not even when Uncle Vernon locked both Harry and you in the closet room below the stairs, not even when bloody Umbridge scarred down your skin and Harry's with 'I must not tell lies', and not even when Sirius, your godfather slowly dissipated after being attacked by Bellatrix Lestrange.
To obliviate George, you have to kill your own heart. Because he owns all of it. He stole it, from the very moment you and Harry had been sorted into Gryffindor. At first you thought, it was just a crush, as you were just 11 years old, but then as you grew up, you find yourself connected to George Weasley way more than the others. When he asked you out instead of Alicia to the Yule Ball, you knew at that moment, both of you are heads over heels for one another.
He was there for you during many events in your life. And you know you were there for his. If there is anything that you want to live for and to die for, that anything would be this man. George Fabian Weasley.
All those thoughts made your sobs more uncontrollable and your body shook more, slowly stirring George up from sleep. He opened his eyes groggily and saw you crying under him, "Y/N? Hey, hey.... What's wrong, love?" Despite his hoarse voice, he managed to lay them out softly to comfort you. The hand that was tightly wrapped around your waist was brought to wipe the tears off your cheeks.
All of his sleepiness were thrown outside the window, he was now alert and confused as to why you suddenly broke down. Feeling those worried eyes on you made you cry even harder, even after you disturbed him from sleep, George still cared about you.
You... You couldn't.
You tried to control your sobs, and you met his loving and nurturing eyes. Even with all those eye snobs at the corner of his eyes, those brown eyes were beautiful. "George..." You whispered. "What is it, Love? Why are you crying? Did something happen?" He asked softly, his large hand cupping your face.
You leaned into his touch and sat up, causing him to sat up from his laying position as well. Even with no lighting anywhere around you, you still could feel his immense love for you, the way his eyebrows furrowed worriedly, the way his eyes focused on you, and you only.
"I... I need to tell you something." You whispered, forcing yourself to be strong and wiping the tears off your face harshly.
The least you could do, is tell him the truth before you Obliviate him. That way, at least he wasn't in the dark.
"Should we talk about this outside? Wouldn't want that bloke over there to wake up, do we?" He whispered almost playfully, and you mustered enough strength to perform a smile.
Yet he recognized that smile. That smile of yours, is a smile of pain. You were hiding something. George trusts you with his whole life, and he knows you feel the same way, but the storm inside his heart is starting to take over. He was nervous.
You walked outside the Burrow hand by hand, his large hand wrapped perfectly around yours, as if it was created to hold it. Yet George knew something was troubling you, you didn't squeeze back when he squeezed your hand, and you were holding his hand rather tightly, as if it was your last wish to let go of him.
He was right, and you were absolutely terrified.
"You said you need to tell me something?" George asked, he could feel his heart beating on his throat, it was becoming unsettling for him to hear what you have to say.
"I...." You trailed off, the words caught up in your throat, unable to come out. Merlin, you don't know how to say this. You took a deep breath, both of your hands were starting to feel clammy and weird. But you kept holding on to George's hands, they were silently supporting you to go on.
"Harry and I have decided that..." You started slowly, your heart was beating profusely, both in anxiety and in pain, you could just imagine the pained look George was about to give you in the next few seconds.
"We decided that we don't want any more lives to be threatened because of us. So, we... W-we..." Your hands were trembling and sweaty, your whole body was aching in pain, you don't want to say this, oh Merlin you'd rather die than say this.
"Hey, hey... Take your time, sweetness, we have loads of them." George's voice reached your ears, and you saw him becoming immensely worried and scared, yet he had a comforting smile on his lips.
Seeing him smile hurt even more than you could possibly imagine. Seeing him smile made it far more difficult to lay down the words.
"I-in order to keep you safe, in order to keep everyone safe and sound without any harm from Voldemort... Oh dear god, I can't say this..." You whimpered, your body trembled horribly, it was hurting, aching and simply terrifying.
Your knees turn weak and George was fast to capture your waist and steady you up, you were already crying while hugging him. "Woah! Y/N, darling, what is exactly happening to you?" George was beyond worried. The pain in your eyes and everything else seems to be so painful, as if more painful than the Crucio curse.
You pulled away, tears are rolling down your cheeks as you sobbed, "I don't want to do this, George, I hate this so much." George was cupping your face, trying all the best he could to wipe the tears off your face, "Do what, Y/N?"
"Do this," Your wand was already pointing at George, and he was frozen. His face was a mixture of pain, confusion and betrayal, yet you could see his love for you is still there.
"You will be much safer if you don't remember me, George." Your voice were anything but stable at this point. The realization dawned upon George and he was horrified, "Y/N, no... "
"I shouldn't tell you this, but here I am. I thought I could tell you the truth before I wipe our memories." You said, your wand still fixated to him. George simply raised his wand as well, pointing it to you, "I won't let you, Y/N. Why are you doing this?"
"To protect you!" Your voice came a bit louder than you thought. "So many people have died for me and Harry, I couldn't bear seeing you die for me too, George. Not you, or Fred, or Arthur or Molly."
George furrowed his eyebrows, "You mean to tell me that you're planning to Obliviate everyone? To protect us? Y/N, you and I both know that is some bullshit!"
"I have no other choice! You know how much I love you, George. You think this doesn't hurt me as much as it hurts you? I would rather die than do this to you!!!" You were a shouting mess.
You two were a broken pile of mess. You were crying non-stop and George was as nearly as close to breaking down, yet wands were still fixated to each other.
"Y/N, if you and Harry go on and fight Voldemort all by yourselves, you won't even stand a chance, you know that. The bloody wizard has an entire army of Death-Eaters, for Merlin's sake! What comes through your mind when you decided to do this?!" George shouted as well, his face was nothing but pain. He was angry, angry at you and Harry for even thinking you have a right to meddle with someone's memories.
"What comes through my mind is that you will be safe, George. You and your family along with Hermione, Remus, Tonks, even Mad-Eye. All of you will be safe." You said firmly, standing your ground. You loathed every second you had with George here. You just wanted to go back to a few minutes ago where he was cuddling with you like a clingy tall sloth. George saw the determination in your eyes, and also pain. No matter how much he knew you hate to do this, he still felt hurt.
"Then what about you, Y/N? What about you, what about Harry?" George's voice trembled in pain. The thought of you sacrificing yourself just to keep everyone safe and sound just sounded so... bloody ridiculous.
Before you could answer, "Y/N dear, what are you doing here?" Molly's voice made you turn to the Burrow's front door. There they were, the Weasleys and Hermione, all of them were alert and ready with their wands as soon as they saw your wand fixated to George and vice versa.
Your eyes widened in fear, your argument with George must have woken them up. Molly tried to walk closer to you, yet you walked back as quick, "Stay back!"
The Weasleys were taken aback by your shout, they would never think you would shout at them, you have been the sweetest little thing. "George, what's happening here?" Arthur called on to his son, his wand was fixated to you while yours were moving to point at both Molly and George.
"Y/N thinks it would be better to Obliviate everyone so that we would be safe." George said grimly, and the horrified expressions from the Weasleys were far worse than you had imagined.
"Are you out of your bloody mind?!" Fred shouted to you. "I have no other choice! Voldermort will come for you all, and no more blood shall be trickling down for me or for Harry."
"You listen to me, Y/N Potter! We are already in so deep to back down now. Either you drop your wand, or you'll have 7 people fighting against you right now!" Hermione shouted to you, her wand steadily fixated on you.
"I just wanted all of you to be safe." You whispered under your breath, a tear made its way to your lips as you tasted the salty liquid. You turned to George, "I will always love you, and will always remember you, George Weasley."
"No, no Y/N don't do this-" "OBLIVIATE MAXIMA!"
Before anyone could do anything, you said the very spell that aches your heart. You watched the soft blue strings from each of the Weasleys' head and Hermione's, coming slowly and formed one blue string to your wand.
Even George's. Instantly, the memories you two had together flashed between your eyes. The sorting hat, the first Quidditch game, the pranks, the hidden hugs at the hallways, the kisses between classes, the playful bickering during Snape's, the cuddling, the sleeping together, the laughing, the jealousy, the fights, the tears, the shouts and screams, and the dance at the Yule Ball.
5 years of memories, Obliviated.
After the magical strings came into your wand, you see George trying to process everything, looking seemingly numb and frozen.
With a last kiss on his cheek and a whisper, "I'll find you when everything's over." you Disapparated.
The Black family / Walburga Black / canon.
As I said before I do not care that much about canon/fanon/headcanon because transformative works by definition include a wide variety of different interpretations. However, I am forever perplexed when I see uncompromising opinions on the Black family - particularly the unwavering certainty that Sirius Black’s parents were psychotic abusers. All personal opinions aside - why is this so popular?
I mean - it’s absolutely ok to headcanon this version and to play with it - but saying 'don’t you dare say they did not physically and emotionally abuse Sirius' is a little strong, isn’t it?
This is a mystery to me. So…let’s discuss my favourite subject…Again.
Let’s stick to the facts. The frequently cited things proving the abuse in the Black family are as follows:
Sirius said his parents were awful maniacs (pureblood ideology)
he ran away from home
he was severely depressed in OoTP
Kreacher
Portrait
So…when you say that Sirius’s parents were abusive…you mean exactly what? These people got cold feet when they saw the real nature of Voldemort - I guess it somehow implies that they did not share his methods…that they were against violence as a tool to get purebloods in charge.
But then it usually goes this way: ‘well at least he was verbally and emotionally abused by his family’ - but is it so? Is this based on the portrait of Sirius's mother? She insulted strangers who took over her house and her runaway son - how does this prove anything about how Sirius and Regulus were raised and treated when they were kids? I agree it’s rather impolite - jkr did a good job showing how purebloods perceived others ( those below them) -but in all honesty, this has very little to do with Sirius and his childhood.
Why to make Sirius a victim at all? - c’mon he was tougher than this, he spent 12 years in Azkaban; are you actually saying that a portrait throwing insults at everyone is worse? I doubt that. And is it such a surprise that a mother who lost her son (that said son actually ran away and abandoned his duty) would be that furious at him when seeing him again...even if it’s only a portrait...I believe it to be a rather unpleasant experience for a parent when a child runs away.
We already talked about the portrait a lot - I don’t even want to mention it here- - I feel we should rather pay more attention to the fact that Sirius himself was not an angel.
I am not saying the colourful vocabulary of Walburga Black should be used…but Sirius himself upon seeing Snape  immediately  recognised his weakness and went for it without any hesitation …we are talking about Sirius who in fact was quite a renowned bully ( I mean - we know for a fact that from time to time Sirius and James got carried away)…
And it was Sirius who sent Snape to meet and chat with a real werewolf (yes, I agree - he was not thinking this through - he probably was just vexed and fed up with Snape and thought he wouldn’t go there, would get cold feet or idk run away…But it actually changes nothing. If a drunken driver hits someone it will be 100% his fault whether he means it or not. Whether he is in a fragile mental state or not - such situations are definite. It’s the same with Sirius - even if he did not mean anything bad he should have understood the cost of his mistake - all teenagers make silly things but not all of them send their classmate to meet a werewolf - James thought it not a very good idea as I recall… -
So we see that Sirius was not an angel from the start and I can hardly believe he was a victim by nature. His behaviour loudly manifested that he used to get what he wanted with no thought of the consequences.
And all those pictures of bikini-clad girls on the walls in his room prove that he was quite a spoiled boy who had nothing to fear from mum and dad. Harry himself noticed «Sirius seemed to have gone out of his way to annoy his parents». All this shows that Sirius was not afraid of his parents at all. What kind of masochist would suffer for motorbike posters? That would be ridiculous.
Let’s move to Kreacher: If Sirius’s mother had been a monster why even mention her heart?  JKR wrote this for a purpose and this heavily implies that Sirius's situation was never meant to be ‘the abusive heartless parents vs the poor helpless victim’.
The fact that Sirius ran away and hence broke his mother’s heart says against the popular idea that he was not loved by his family, that he was always the second one, that they abused him. I’m 100% certain that Kreacher told the truth in that scene. Why would he say something like this if it were not the truth - something like…that his beloved mistress having been so upset over Sirius running away that it broke her heart. Just tell me one reason that would have justified such a lie - why to say this at all?
Then this: “Leave?” Sirius smiled bitterly and ran a hand through his long, unkempt hair. “Because I hated the whole lot of them: my parents, with their pure-blood mania, convinced that to be a Black made you practically royal … my idiot brother, soft enough to believe them … that’s him.”…. “He was younger than me,” said Sirius, “and a much better son, as I was constantly reminded.”
I’ve already said it before - this ‘better son than me’ is exactly what insecure 14-year old kids like to say. Well...he’s a bit older but it’s not as if he had a life and a chance to mature. Moreover, I don’t know if it comes as a great shock but a lot of teenagers like to badmouth their parents…usually, it involves something like ‘those bloody uptight retrogrades know nothing of the real world’ (it fades away when they get closer to thirty).
To be serious, I find that it’s just another example of similarities between Sirius and his mother. They clearly did not know what it means to be composed, polite, and respectful. Yeah…I think that, on the whole, parents are owed their children’s respect (unless they are completely inadequate - somehow I don’t believe this was the case). Someone should teach both of them what mutual respect means. Anyway, there is nothing in this quote that says that Sirius was subjected to any forms of abuse - it’s about how Sirius justified his running away,  how he saw the situation.
There’s also the fact that Sirius was incredibly unhappy because he was back at his childhood home and having to spend time around anything that reminded him of his family: “Hasn’t anyone told you? This was my parents’ house,” said Sirius. “But I’m the last Black left, so it’s mine now. I offered it to Dumbledore for headquarters — about the only useful thing I’ve been able to do.” Harry, who had expected a better welcome, noted how hard and bitter Sirius’s voice sounded”.
Here it comes…the severe depression that makes people question the severity of his abuse… I have thought a lot about this because it is the reason why some consider ‘the abusive blacks' canon while others believe it was more of a tragedy of the family rather than the banal brutality.
Of course, Sirius was upset in that house - but I don’t think he suffered the memories of his unhappy childhood - I think he suffered from the strong feeling of guilt. Being in that house meant an everyday reminder that he was a failure. And it’s not even a lie. If you look at his whole life you’ll see that he literally failed everyone in his life: he failed James and Lily - they were dead and he unwillingly became the reason. It was his plan that turned everything into a tragedy.
And, to some extent, he failed Harry- he was not around him like James and Lily would have wanted. Sirius did not give him the real family - he only promised they'd be the one «when it’s all over».
And finally - he failed his parents, his brother, his own family.
Is it possible to live with so much guilt in your heart?
I don't think that Sirius completely forgot who he was born to be. If the family keeps traditions and can trace its existence back in centuries you can't shake it off even if you want. I doubt Sirius switched it off just because he had griffindor friends. He was the last Black - it is tragically poetic that he was once the hope of his family and then this family died with him. If Sirius had heart (and I truly believe he had a heart) he knew exactly what it meant to be trapped in the house that represented the death of his family. A constant reminder  that he was the last one.
“The others’ hushed voices were giving Harry an odd feeling of foreboding; it was as though they had just entered the house of a dying person”.
I think that the scene when he threw his father's ring away - he threw it away because it was all over for his family. It was the end of the dynasty - and for him it was all over long before he met Bellatrix for the last time.
Well, I admit Sirius' situation is open for wide interpretation but I don’t think the abusive black household is a canon thing - of course, it’s fanon. It makes Sirius a hero who broke the chains when in fact he ended up being a victim of his own life.
You know, it always seems strange to me that fandom when discussing Walburga usually overlooks the simple truth of life - that even if you are clever enough and mean good for your loved ones it is still possible to end up on the losing side, on the dark side.  However, mistakes don't automatically turn humans into monsters.
To some extent Sirius’s story represents the consequences of war.  No-one is protected; the whole families could be wiped off the face of the earth. It’s a simple yet profound idea. It correlates with the main idea of hp books far better than the ‘abusive psychopaths’ (there are already Voldemort and Bellatrix - there is no-one who can beat them in this department).
All I say - it’s okay to imagine them bad if you want- your right - but don’t write everywhere that it’s canon because it is not.There is no need for such inflexibility especially when it comes to the fandom - a place where everyone should be welcomed and their views on the books be respected.
Day 29, Post #2 by @maggotsstuff
Title: The Masterstroke
Author: maggotsstuff
Pairing: Ron-Hermione
Theme: A Friendship like no other/Bravery
Beta Credits: Two amazing person – Adenei and Folk-melody.
The sleepy stone corridors of the Castle of Durmstrang reverberated with the sound of heavy footsteps. The echo of the rhythmic pace pierced through the silence of several corners and passages until it came to a halt before an old wooden door. There was a gentle knock on the wooden surface, which was soon followed by a series of raps.
The din was answered by a slow and lazy creak of the hinges, followed by the dim light of a candle that floated in the air. The silhouette of a woman dressed in black robes and a black hood appeared at the door.
“Prince Draco! What business brings you here to my chamber at this hour? Could this not have waited until the daylight had shone?” she asked haughtily.
“Huh? Is this the way to speak to the future King of Slytherin, Ravenclaw?”
“My fault, Prince Draco. But your aunt, Queen Bellatrix is still the Queen of Slytherin.”
Draco became so pale that his face was almost the same colour as his silver blonde hair. The sentries escorting the Prince, who stood a few steps behind him, lowered their heads.
Draco’s face contorted with a scowl, which was smothered by the smirk playing across his thin lips.
“You are too smart for your own good,” Draco replied darkly. He didn’t wait for her reply as he paced back through the corridors.
Ravenclaw heard warning bells chiming inside of her. Draco certainly had not come to invite her for any midnight tryst. She hurried after him. The floating candle moved ahead of all.
The quartet marched through the long corridors and then through a small passage, which opened in a big hall that was decorated with a throne with a serpent headed backrest. Ivory chairs were arranged in rows at a distance from the throne on both of its sides. The tall walls of the hall had human heads affixed to them. It seemed that each head had a story of an atrocious death to tell.
At the far end of the hall, a flight of spiral steps was erected. The small procession halted there. Draco turned back and feigned surprise.
“Ah, Ravenclaw! Did you follow us until here? Am I so lucky that the mighty witch of my land has finally discovered the truth in my words?” he jeered, raising a silver blonde eyebrow of his at her.
“I cannot ignore the nephew of my Queen. If he cares to visit me at this hour he would certainly have urgent orders for this servant. I am waiting for your commands, Prince.”
“I am humbled that the mighty witch has expressed her desire to fulfil my wish,” Draco stroked her cheek over her black hood. She clenched her fist to resist herself from cursing him back.
“But tonight, your service is reserved for my aunt. You will regret wasting more of her valuable time. The fulfillment of my wish can wait until then,” Draco brushed his hand against hers.
Without another word or a second look, Ravenclaw glided over the staircase.
***
Queen Bellatrix lived in the innermost quarters of Durmstrang. Her chamber was decorated with exotic furniture and guarded by the Naginis. They were serpents with human heads and were her pets. The Naginis spiralled themselves on the way to her bedroom. They hissed at Ravenclaw. Their hisses were silenced as a tall woman with dark hair and heavy eyelids strode forward from behind a tapestry. Ravenclaw bowed to her.
"Welcome to my palace! Was my nephew good to you?" Bellatrix winked.
Ravenclaw did not want to bite her bait.
"At his best, my Queen." She tried hard to maintain a neutral expression.
Bellatrix snorted.
"I know you have much disdain for me and my actions. Yet you never fail me, Ravenclaw. Isn't it difficult for you to serve the same woman who wiped out your entire village, maybe even your family?"
"If you hadn't raided my village and stolen me from my family that day, the villagers would have killed me because they thought I was a curse to the village."
The Queen acknowledged with a nod.
Since the Queen was silent, Ravenclaw continued, "May I ask the Queen why she summoned her servant at this hour?"
"This is what I like in you. You're always in to business," Bellatrix laughed.
Ravenclaw stood silently. There was stony silence, which was soon broken by the Naginis' hisses.
"Alright, I take it that you don't want to have a friendly chat with me. Ravenclaw, tonight I dreamt of a knight."
Ravenclaw's eyes blinked in astonishment. She was not at all prepared to listen to the Queen's rendezvous with a knight in her dreams.
"The Vision," Bellatrix gestured towards a glistening mirror, "told me that he can give me the child who will help me conquer the world."
Bellatrix, who was pacing around Ravenclaw, stopped on her tracks and gauged her reaction. The witch kept on staring straight. Bellatrix handed over a scroll of parchment, several quills and an assortment of ink pots to Ravenclaw.
"I want you to paint me a picture of this knight. With your mystique powers you will tell me who he is."
***
Ravenclaw sat deeply immersed in her thoughts in the confines of her dingy room. Her companion of recluse, the black robes and the hood laid discarded in a corner. Eyes shut, she let her mind run free.
While she was at Bellatrix's palace, she had decided to safeguard the man from the evil designs of Bellatrix whose sketch she had unintentionally made. Soon after, her mind worked at the speed of light.
Bellatrix wanted to have him captured by her Dementors. She convinced Bellatrix that if the Dementors captured Ronald, Gryffindor would definitely know that Bellatrix had him kidnapped.
King James of Gryffindor was not on good terms with Bellatrix. (The relationship between the two monarchs had soured after she had executed Sirius, her brother and James’ friend, on charges of treason.) The king would encash the opportunity for a war because of this; Slytherin's army would not be able to sustain Gryffindor's warfare, she reasoned.
Instead of creating unwanted repercussions, Bellatrix could allow her to steal him away from Godric's Castle.  No one would know as she would kidnap him through her magic.
Bellatrix's eyes gleamed with evil delight. The echo of her savage laughter still rang in the precincts of her mind.
Ronald — the valiant warrior of the kingdom of Gryffindor — the knight appearing in Bellatrix's dreams — the man with fiery red hair grown up to his shoulders, long nose and strong jaw, with arrogance in blue eyes — his eyes stirred the memory of someone far, yet so near, that someone who was always so kind to her, that someone whom she loved, whom she might still love. But Ronald was not him. Still….
"RONALD! We shall meet soon!" Ravenclaw thought aloud.
At Godric's Castle, which was miles away from Durmstrang, Ronald heard his flute piping out a syllable which strangely felt like his name. He hurried to the object which was staked in his old leather bag.
He shook his head in disbelief and unwittingly blurted out, "It's not possible!"
But a part of him still hoped.
***
Draco kept lurking around and pestered her for information about her meeting with the Queen. But as days elapsed, he gradually lost interest in the matter. Ravenclaw regarded that the time had finally arrived as Draco’s prying eyes were off her.
One moonless night she flew off to Gryffindor in quest of Ronald, the man with blue eyes. She flew hundreds of miles across rivers, forests and oceans, until finally she noticed Gryffindor's red and golden flag fluttering with the wind. Her tired body immediately recovered with a fresh surge of energy.
Ravenclaw hovered over Godric's Castle for a few seconds. To her relief there were no protective enchantments over the Castle. But the Castle was much bigger than Durmstrang. She decided to perch on top of a low tower until it was dark.
Ravenclaw chose a window as her hiding place which was hidden from direct view.  When she crawled onto the panel, she was alarmed by the sound of a low cough. She crawled through the panel into the tower and found herself standing in a small bedroom and staring at an old dog.
"Fang!" she exclaimed. The dog ran towards her, barking with delight.
But, there was a rush outside and she hid herself under the simple four poster bed.
"Fangiekins! What's up," the entrant hollered. Fang pulled him to where Hermione was.
Down under the bed, Ravenclaw tried to control her breath. She knew it was him.
Ronald — Ron! What would she do now?
Before it was too late and Ravenclaw changed her mind, she exhaled through her mouth, emptying her two lungs. Right after her action, she saw Ronald's legs lose balance and before he tumbled onto the floor she withdrew herself from her position and helped him fall asleep on the bed. Fang fell asleep too. All she needed was to wait until dark to steal him away. She hid herself again under Ronald's bed, her mind wandering back to the alleys of Hogsmeade where she met Ronald for the first time.
***
Before darkness crept in, Ravenclaw came outside. She paused to stare for a moment at the tall man sleeping soundly in his bed and then set to work as fast as she could. She gathered ropes, leather straps, even iron chains that she found in the tiny room and strapped Ronald securely to his bed. When the Castle went silent, she levitated Ronald's narrow bed and with a little shove pushed it outside of the window. She fastened her robes to one of the four posters and flew away towards the land of Slytherin where Bellatrix was waiting for her prey.
***
Ravenclaw zoomed into her chamber with a sleeping Ronald on his four poster bed, through the open window of her chamber. The morning rays of sun followed her soon after.
No one noticed except a man with silver blonde hair who had patiently waited for Ravenclaw's arrival since her departure. He hurried towards the Queen.
Ravenclaw headed straight for her bathroom. She needed a bath and food for further functioning. But when she finished her bath and entered her room a hard punch on her head welcomed her, knocking her straight to the floor.
She laid on the floor trying to gather her wit when she saw Ronald's familiar pair of boots running past her. There was a thud and the door to her chamber swung open. She tried to crawl towards the door, but she felt too weak.
She heard Ronald. He kept on swearing. There was the sound of hitting, punching, kicking and cries of pain. Ronald roared.
Ravenclaw somehow managed to stand on her feet. She snatched a scarf, covered her face and hurried out of her chamber. Injured bodies of sentries laid scattered on the stone floor. She saw Ronald clutching Draco’s neck and suffocating him with his bare arm.
"Ronald! No! Please don't kill him!" Ravenclaw screamed. Ronald continued holding Draco’s neck but it seemed to her that he had relaxed his muscles.
"Bring him to my palace." Everyone who was not gravely injured turned  with surprise to the spot from where Bellatrix's voice came.
"Well done, Ravenclaw. But your service is not over yet. Follow us to my palace," Bellatrix commanded. Ravenclaw obliged, forgetting that she was awfully hungry.
On their way to the hall, Draco sidled her.
"Why did you bother to save me from that beast?" he asked out of the corner of his mouth.
"Maybe because I hoped that you can do better than what you are," she whispered back. Draco became sober.
***
Bellatrix ordered all but Ravenclaw and Ronald to leave the hall. Ravenclaw furtively glanced at Ronald. He was still fuming.
"Follow me," she commanded while climbing up the stairs. Ravenclaw followed. But Ronald could not break the magical barrier and climb the staircase.
"My Queen, this is the magic of your ancestors. No man can ever cross this barrier and reach your chamber," Ravenclaw said concernedly.
"But you're a witch. Break the barrier so that Ronald can follow his destiny," Bellatrix demanded. Ronald frowned.
"Your ancestors' magic is far more superior than the feeble witchcraft I practice."
"In that case, I beseech the responsibility of his well-being upon you. My nephew Draco shall be commissioned for your assistance."
Ravenclaw understood the subtle warning. Yet, she felt relieved.
"Unlock any room nearby to your chamber and arrange for his stay. You can take him away now." With an air of finality, Bellatrix flounced away.
***
"Why am I here?" Ronald growled as he followed Ravenclaw through the corridors and passages.
"I am not supposed to tell you. Ask the Queen," Ravenclaw kept on marching forward without looking back at him.
Ronald let out an exasperated breath.
"You are the one who kidnapped me, aren't you? Not her. So you will tell me."
"I didn’t know you could be so naive, Ronald. If you haven’t noticed, I am a plain servant here and I work on orders. It's the Queen who decides," Ravenclaw's voice vibrated out shrilly.
Ronald was taken aback. They walked in silence for some time and then Ronald said grumpily, "I am hungry."
"So am I. I haven't eaten for more than twenty four hours. Besides, there was nothing to eat in your room at Godric's Castle and the stench in it was horrible," Ravenclaw barked.
She was listless. That was the first time after so long; she had a banter with someone and was thrilled about it.
"Now it is my fault that I don't keep food to feed my kidnappers!" Ronald retorted back.
Ravenclaw smirked. They kept on walking and reached the same point where Ronald had caused quite a stir some time back.
"This is where you will stay. I will send for some food if you are hungry. And behave yourself. Don't try to run away again. We have had enough of your nuisance," she said sternly.
"This is mental."
Ravenclaw heard him say before she left, and she felt butterflies fluttering inside her belly.
***
Almost a month had passed since Ronald's kidnapping. To Ravenclaw's relief, Bellatrix was yet to figure out how to let Ronald into her palace. The wizards she had summoned to break the jinx failed miserably in their mission. Bellatrix ensured that those wizards were punished adequately.
When Ravenclaw entered Ronald's room, he was lying on his small bed, blankly staring at the ceiling. He didn’t even stir when he heard the door to his room open and close.
"I just came to check on you," Ravenclaw tried to be as comforting as she could. He said nothing.
Over the past one month Ravenclaw had shared many details of her dark life and Ronald shared his experiences.  They became much more civil to each other, if not friendlier.
"Look I never wanted to put you through this—"
"Bellatrix came here yesterday," Ronald blurted out.
Ravenclaw's palm automatically covered her mouth over her hood; her eyes popped so wide that it could have bounced out of its socket.
Ronald stared at her for a moment and then said, "You knew about her intentions, didn't you?"
Ravenclaw slowly nodded her head. She knew that he would now hate her forever.
"Then why did you bloody kidnap me?" he yelled.
"Or else she would have sent the Dementors after you. They are the worst kind of species. They would have plundered everything you had in Gryffindor and scarred your people for life," she screamed back.
"Huh, Dementors! As much as Bellatrix called you a brilliant witch who traced me out of her dreams, you failed to understand that I am not afraid of any mortals or demons. But since you wanted to become this angel," Ronald marked quotes in the air, "you could have spared me too. Why did you bring me here?" Ronald asked sarcastically.
"Because I was stupid and thought that I could protect you. Besides, I knew that Bellatrix's palace was forbidden for man. Her father, King Salazar, was a wizard and a blood purist. He cast those unbreakable spells so that no man of lesser blood ventures near her. And I knew you didn't have royal blood running in your veins. But I must admit that I didn't know Bellatrix well. I didn't think that she would keep you a hostage and…," Ravenclaw's eyes were downcast with guilt and she faltered.
"What if I refuse to oblige. Would my head be displayed on the wall of that scary hall?" Ronald asked, frowning.
"No. I will never let that happen. Tonight you will escape from Durmstrang. And you needn't escape through that tunnel underneath your bed." Ronald stood up in attention.
"You think I didn't notice," Ravenclaw said with a chuckle. Ronald deliberately bumped his head against one of the posters on his bed.
"Don't do this," Ronald snarled. "I don't want you to risk your life for me."
"You needn't bother about me. I'm tired of my life, anyways. People like Bellatrix keep me safe, but scar my soul. Your world will not take me back because of who I am," Ravenclaw turned away to hide the tears glistening in her eyes.
Ronald tentatively placed his hand over her shoulder. This was the first time he touched her in the past month of their acquaintance.
"You never asked me why I didn't kill your friend Draco when you asked me not to kill him," Ronald said gently. Ravenclaw turned around in surprise.
"The day you kidnapped me, I heard your voice coming out from the flute an amazing girl once gave me. She was a witch, but she didn't know that I knew. We seldom met. But I remember all the moments we shared together in the village of Hogsmeade," Ronald paused. Ravenclaw's eyes began to shed those unshed tears of years.
"One day she told me that she cannot be friends with me anymore. Rumors of her being a witch had already rippled through our village. I told her that I wanted to be friends with her no matter what. I would stand by her even if the gods were against her. She cried. Just like you're crying now."
He brushed his fingers against her tears. Ravenclaw closed her eyes.
"She gave me a magical flute and said that if she ever needed me she would call out for me through that. She had indeed called out for me on the day she vanished from her village. I went in search of her, but the entire village was in shambles," he hesitated and then added, "her family was murdered too."
"OH, RON!" Ravenclaw wrapped her arms around Ron's torso and buried her head into his chest and cried. He embraced her with equal passion.
They sat down together on Ron's bed. She craved more of Ron's warmth and comfort, which he was more than willing to give.
"What gave me away?" she asked softly.
"Your voice, Hermione!" Her body tensed at the mention of her name which she thought had died a thousand deaths already.
"You could have found me using your magic. Why didn't you do so?" Hermione could sense hurt in Ron's voice.
"I was in captivity, mind you. But after that I thought that you would never want to be my friend after knowing my truth," she said with a shaky whisper.
"From the day we met here, I wanted to say something to you, but couldn't sum up my courage—," Hermione covered his mouth with her palm before he could complete his sentence and said, "Say it Ron."
"That Ravenclaw is a stupid name and your costume is ridiculous," he chuckled.
Hermione punched his gut.
"Ouch! Hermione it hurts!" He gasped in pain.
"I can curse you and make you speechless," she threatened him with mock anger.
"I know you won't because, I — I wanted to say that I was and will always be yours," Ron whispered.
Words didn't seem enough to express what Hermione felt at that moment. She lifted her hood in one swift motion and kissed Ron's mouth. She was finally back with the one she belonged to.
***
Hermione braced herself to execute the plan of their escape that she and Ron had hatched. If caught, she knew both of them would face a gory end. Ron was, however, amused to find her so worried.
"Come on, love," he said, "I am the best commander of Gryffindor. I know the rules of the games. From what I could make out of the excellent details you have provided, we are on the right track."
We are on the right track—We are on the right track— She kept on repeating.
And then she found the person she was searching for — Draco. He was standing on the edge of an open terrace.
"Good Evening, Prince! Have you gotten tired of spying on me so soon?" Hermione cooed. Draco was startled. "And oh! Please don't let yourself stand on these edges. A sweet little shove could be fatal," Hermione murmured into his ears and smirked mischievously.
For a moment Draco was shocked at her audacity, but thereafter he composed himself.
"Why did you come here?" he grunted. "Are you not supposed to be guarding your captive?"
"Umm… the Queen herself guards him now."
Draco glanced at her sharply.
"Didn't you know why she made me kidnap him? She wanted to have an heir to her throne. The Vision told her that Ronald is the man who should father her child if she wanted him to be invincible."
Draco was gobsmacked. "And did she tell you all this when she summoned you?"
"10 points to you. At least you figured this out. Yes, indeed she told me. You should have known that he meant more to her than other men when she refrained from killing him after he created all that nuisance on his first day here."
Draco was staring at her in silence.
"But I pity you, Prince. After how she murdered your grandfather and your parents, you still believe that she will let you be the king of Slytherin."
"You are lying. My parents murdered my grandfather and she punished my parents for spilling the blood of their father. She brought me up like I was her own progeny," Draco countered.
"For a Prince, you have an intellectual range of a teaspoonful," Hermione snorted.
"What do you mean by that?" he growled.
"Your aunt staged everything. She didn't kill you because you're not capable of harming her while you're a kid. But times have changed."
Draco contemplated for a moment.
"But why are you telling me all these things? I have never been really good to you. In fact, my words only confirmed my not so good intentions for you," Draco said plainly.
"Like I said before, I believed you could be better. I always considered your behavior towards me as an act of spite. You said those things because you were jealous of me and wanted to rile me up. If I am not wrong you would have considered it to be a personal insult in laying your hands on the dirty knickers of a witch," Hermione said in a breath.
"What now?" Draco asked intrigued. He had dropped all his pretense and listened to Hermione with rapt attention.
"News is that Ronald is going to escape tonight. If I were you I would have never stopped him," Hermione finally made her move.
"I will not stop him. But who's going to stop Bellatrix? Her Dementors will find him from any corner of the earth," he stated matter of factly.
"Did you know how your grandfather was murdered?" Hermione asked.
Draco scowled and shook his head affirming his lack of knowledge.
"Bellatrix turned the Dementors against him. And from what I know, you have access to her palace being of royal blood. Bonus — the Naginis would not be very happy with her if they knew that Ronald does not have royal blood running in his veins, yet she had been pursuing after him."
"Ravenclaw, you are simply a genius. I would have actually married you if you were not a witch. What do you want in return? I will give you anything," Draco blurted out. His eyes were gleaming with pleasure.
"I want to leave Slytherin. No one should come hunting for me," she said boldly.
"Granted. Tonight you and Ronald can leave Slytherin, and no one from Slytherin will come after you. I will handle the rest," Draco announced.
"Fine. I take your word. Goodbye," she said.
"Ravenclaw, one final word. If Ronald does not accept you, you can still be the old witch of Slytherin," Draco sniggered.
Hermione left him without another word.
The death hour had arrived. Ron didn't agree to be flown away by Hermione. He wanted some action during his escape so that no one became suspicious of Hermione helping him. In case Draco ditched them and Ron was captured, he didn't want her to be tortured.
When it was dark, Hermione reluctantly let him crawl out of the tunnel he had dug out on the wall. She supplied him with all the ammunition he wanted. They kissed each other before he left promising to meet soon.
Hermione watched through her window as Ron dropped himself on the ground with the help of ropes suspended from the tunnel. He was dressed in the robes of sentries of Slytherin. After some time, she saw his silhouette riding a horse towards the entry gate. And then she saw the big gates ajar. Draco had ultimately kept his word. She heaved a sigh of relief. She watched until she could see his silhouette fading away in darkness.
Hermione swept her glance one last time all over her little room and then with a smile on her face leapt out from her window to fly away. She deserved to share her home with Ron. They had always belonged with each other.
The news of murder of Queen Bellatrix by her own pet Naginis spreaded like wildfire through Gryffindor. The king of Gryffindor, James, announced a feast for all his countrymen in honor of his dead friend Sirius, who was framed and killed by Bellatrix.
Hermione watched everyone making merry from the small quarters where both Ron and Hermione now lived together along with Fang.
Ron watched her golden wedding ring glisten under the sun. He tried to steal a glance of her content face as she examined her ring. As much as he tried to watch her smile, the cascade of her brown untamed hair teased him by causing hindrance.
In a way, her wild hair was like dark clouds in the sky, hiding away the brightness of the sun beneath them, he thought. In his case, it was the pleasure of experiencing the sweetness of her smile that her hair was robbing him off. Ron smiled. He was a goner.
Ron trudged towards the window beside which his wife was standing. He lightly grasped a fistful of her hair and kissed her neck. Hermione sighed. He closed his eyes and savored the feeling.
"Ermynee! You're so intoxicating. What have you done to me?" Ron breathed into her ears.
Hermione turned to face him. They kept on staring into each other's eyes.
"What did I do?" Hermione asked, raising her brows.
"I was a savage warrior. And now I am a moonstruck lover."
He pressed his hand against his heart and staggered backwards.
"But how could I help in this situation?" Hermione asked with mock dismay.
She flung her arms around his neck. He embraced her with fervor and crushed her chest against his.
"As much as I like your clothes, your skin suits you best," he hummed breathlessly, lacing his fingers in her hair. And then they kissed.
"I love you so much, Ron," Hermione murmured in between kisses.
"I love you more," Ron panted and smiled.
They kissed deeper and became hungrier. The anticipation of intimate touches became too much for both of them to bear. Ron pulled Hermione to their bed and worshipped every inch of her body with every inch of his until both of them surrendered to spasms of ecstasy.
Hermione smiled. She would never need those black robes and the stupid name with Ron around her. His love was enough to keep her safe.
MY MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
"See you after Charms, my love." Sirius says and kisses [y/n]'s forehead, before pecking her lips and walking away to his next class. She just smiles to herself and starts to walk up the stairs to the Fat Lady Portrait, going to spend her free period reading a book or doing nothing alone in the common room.
Having free periods like this are the worse, [y/n] can't even spend time with her boyfriend or any of her friends because she was the lucky one to have a free period on the last class of Wednesday while all of them were on Charms together.
As she was getting to the next staircase, it decided to change with all of the other ones. Her eyes rolled when the entrance of the Gryffindor common room just got more and more distant, and then she saw something weird...
Slytherins. Wait, not just ordinary Slytherins or one of the ones she shares tables at Potions, but Blacks. Regulus was in front of the other ones, walking down the stairs with Narcissa and Bellatrix just behind him. All that [y/n] was wishing was that the stairs they were while staring at her, wasn't going to meet with the one she was at. But luck wasn't by her side.
[y/n]'s hands held her up by holding the handrail at her right when the stairs stopped moving - even after 6 years, she couldn't get used to it - and her eyes founded the three Slytherins at the same staircase as her, going down the stairs with light steps that she wouldn't be able to listen if she wasn't looking at them.
'What in bloody hell would a Slytherin be doing at this part of the castle?'
[y/n] shook her head and all the weird thoughts went directly to the back of her mind, where they should stay and never get out. Her feet started to bring her up the long stairs she still had to walk to get to the common room and even with her huge and heavy bag filled with books of all the classes [y/n] had today, her legs were moving fast. It was probably the need to stay away from a few people that just hated her existence and stay in a safe place, but just maybe...
As they walked straight to each other, [y/n] could feel her heart beating at her throat and ears, chills going up and down her arms and legs, and a weird feeling in the deepest part of her heart. Her gut was screaming to her that something was off and that she should get to the common room as fast as her legs could take her up the almost infinity stair.
And with the fact that the unique people that she could see all around her were the Black cousins, [y/n] knew they were up to something. And just the thought that they were up to something while looking at her, made her hands cold and sweat and her knees feel weak.
As they finally got to each other, Regulus just took his hand out of his pocket and stopped you with a warning hand in front of your chest without even the need to touch you. [y/n]'s face turned towards them and the three of them were already looking at her with their characteristic expressions.
Regulus had one of his eyebrows raised and the corner of his lips that, if you squinted your eyes really hard, you could notice that it was a little upwards in a sly smirk. Narcissa had her serious face, without the slightest of emotion letting through her face, and even her eyes were as deep as the end of a maze can be. And Bellatrix had her wide smile, that could stay in any child's worst nightmares, with her big eyes as wide as her smile was.
"Uhm, hello?" [y/n] said with a delicate voice, just above a whisper, but even this low, she showed confidence. It doesn't matter if the girl was dying on the inside, she would never let anyone - especially them - know that they got under her skin. Never...
"We need to have a little chat with you, sister-in-law." It was Regulus strong and deep voice that cut the insides of her ears in fear with his sarcasm while using the nickname.
"Spill." Sirius' girlfriend said and crossed her arms across her chest, in a position of authority while she pretended to not notice Bellatrix's eyes that went directly to her bobs and the way the girl was shifting on her foot.
"The thing is that it's kinda complicated what I have to say to you. But it is an order from my parents, so I will have to say it in any way..." Regulus started and [y/n]'s left eyebrow raised without her even think about it and her right hand moved to put his hand down. "So, I need you to break up with my big brother."
The words seemed so funny that [y/n] tried she really tried to not laugh at it, but a chuckle got out from the back of her throat as the sentence hit her.
"Excuse you?"
"I am serious. And I didn't want to get in details, but my mother says that you are a terrible influence for Sirius and that you can't date him." Regulus explained to [y/n] but her head just shook in disbelief.
"Look, I'm so sorry to disappoint you. But if you think that I'm going to break up with the boy I love, all of you are dumber than what I thought you were." [y/n] said and started to walk upstairs again, just wanting to go back to her dorm or the common room and read the book Remus gave to her last weekend. "Thank you for your attention, but I won't."
"Ok, do whatever you want to do," Regulus said and his cousins looked at him with surprised faces, probably not expecting the way he accepted [y/n]'s decision. "But I should warn you that, my mother's orders were to do something with Sirius if you just decided to not listen to us. And that's what I will do." Your body froze five steps upwards the one he was in and four from the girls. "So, I am giving you until Friday. You have two days to break his little heart, or we will hurt him physically and we won't hesitate."
[y/n] gulped loudly with the words of the brother of her boyfriend and felt her fingers starting to shake. No, they wouldn't do this to Sirius... His own family? No, they couldn't. Right?
The thing was that she didn't know the answer and was afraid to find out.
-
Friday.
It was finally Friday and [y/n] didn't have the guts to break up with Sirius. She just couldn't.
And since the threaten, she has had a billion eyes to look out for Sirius. Every single second that he was away from her, she was worried sick about him, and all of their friends noticed the way that [y/n] couldn't stay mere seconds without her boyfriend, or she would start to freak out and look for him at every corner of the castle. [y/n] got paranoid when it was still Thursday.
And now, at her last class of Friday, she couldn't bring herself to change her gaze from Sirius to the professor, neither pay attention to the new subject. Lily's eyes were focused on her since the start of class, but [y/n] didn't even notice the redheaded strong gaze on her. And it was worrying Lily.
As the professor dismissed everyone, Lily ran behind [y/n] like a lost puppy, that was already outside the classroom looking around her like a mad man.
"Hi, babes. Can I talk to you?" Lily's voice was the sweetest she had ever heard but [y/n] still jumped scared with the sudden voice.
"Sorry, I can talk right now..." The other girl said and tried to turn around and run - probably to Sirius - but before she could breathe a little bit far from her best friend, Lily held her wrist and didn't say a word while she brought [y/n] to another corridor, an empty and quiet one. "What are you doing, Lily? I said I can't talk right now!" [y/n] hissed at her but Lily just rolled her eyes at the stubborn girl.
"Look, you've been acting weird since your free period on Wednesday, but today you're looking like you're paranoid. What's going on?" Lily asked with an expression of empathy and held both of [y/n]'s hands on hers, softly caressing her best friend's hands with her thumbs. "You can tell me."
[y/n]'s shoulders started to relax under her friend's warm touch, she felt her tense forehead starting to release of this tension and her vision being blurred by tears as she realized what she had gotten into. "I- I..." She didn't know how to tell for Lily about what [y/n] have been feeling lately, it was just too much to take care of alone. And then she let herself open up to her best friend, because if there was anyone that would listen to [y/n], was Lily. "I don't know how to say this, but-" Her weak voice was rudely stopped with a loud noise coming from a corridor close to the one they were on.
'Sirius!'
[y/n] ran away from Lily as fast as her legs could take her tired body from all the sleepless nights since Wednesday and the redheaded one followed just behind her friend with plenty question marks flying around her head.
As they got to the corridor, there were confused, scared and disgusted people with what was happening. [y/n] excused herself and passed through everyone that was on her way to the middle of the circle while people sent her rough looks.
When [y/n]'s eyes met Sirius, she felt the air finally coming back to her lungs, the color of the world coming back to her vision and the control of her moves coming back to her brain, with the view of Sirius completely fine.
"Oh, my Godric Gryffindor. What happened?" Lily's voice beside [y/n] brought her back to reality and she noticed Peter with a broken arm, just at Sirius' left.
"W-We don't know..." Remus said and fell on his knees to help Wormtail to stay up, when he noticed no one was going to help him, he looked around with raised eyebrows. "A little help here?"
James and Sirius didn't wait a second to help their friend in need and in a few seconds all of you were taking Peter to Madam Pomfrey.
[y/n] and Lily were holding Peter's broken arm in the air, so it wouldn't hurt any more with any touch or sudden move, while James carried Peter by his left side, Remus by his right and Sirius was guiding them while holding Peter's waist to make sure he wasn't going to fall.
"Don't worry, Wormtail. You're not going to die." Sirius said joking and just James laughed.
"What? I'm gonna die?"
"Nah, don't worry about it, Pete. It's just a broken arm." James said back but Peter's eyes just got bigger and as he turned his eyes to look at his arm, Remus put one of his hands on his friend's eyes before he could look at his arm in a position that it shouldn't be. Well, if looks could kill, Prongs would be six feet underground just by the glance Moony gave to him. "Sorry..." He whispered back and focused on trying to hold Peter on his feet.
As soon as Madam Pomfrey saw them, she thanked for their help, said that what they did was smart - bringing Peter to her directly and not trying to solve this by themselves - and asked for all of them to wait outside.
"My love," Sirius called [y/n] the same moment the both of them stepped out of the room. "can I talk to you for a second?" He asked and she just nodded as an answer while he held her hand in his and brought her to as far as they friends couldn't hear them. A second before Sirius could open his mouth to say what he wanted, [y/n] jumped on him.
Her arms hugged his neck and her forehead rested on his shoulder, it took a little bit to Sirius understand what was happening but not even a second after, he hugged her back with such as love and caring as she was.
He couldn't actually understand what was happening and even with [y/n/n] loving to hug him at all the times she could, Sirius knew there was something else there. "Hey, what is all this for?" He asked a few seconds later in the embrace and when he felt [y/n] starting to release her tight grip on him because of his question, his arms just held her body closer to his (if that was possible).
"I don't know... I was just worried that you were the hurt one." [y/n]'s voice was just above a whisper and Sirius felt his heart clench with the worry and sadness on her delicate voice.
"Well, I'll just let you worry because it was almost me.." Sirius trailed off and [y/n] felt her whole world stop as she sank the words in. She raised her head to look on Sirius' eyes and hoping to find that little glow from when he was joking or pranking someone. But it wasn't there. "The spell hit Peter because he accidentally stumbled and ended up in front of me..."
Oh, no...
"Sirius... I need to tell you something." That was it, [y/n] was going to tell him how his family was threatening her to break up with him or they would hurt him. This was going to end now. But then she saw him. [y/n] saw Regulus behind a group of people looking at her like he could read her mind - well, maybe he could... He knew she was going to tell Sirius about it. But she couldn't, or they would hurt him. "I-I-I..." She looked back at Sirius' gorgeous face, filled with love and empathy towards her. [y/n] couldn't do it. When her eyes looked at her feet she did it... "Sirius, I-I want to b-break up..."
-
Three days, eight hours, twenty-five minutes and ten seconds.
It's been three days, eight hours, twenty-five minutes and eleven seconds since [y/n] broke up with Sirius.
And they couldn't be worse without each other.
Neither of them left their dorm room for the weekend and if it wasn't for James and Lily, they wouldn't have eaten anything in those two days. Remus was starting to actually worry about Sirius and Marlene was worried like crazy about [y/n]...
But the problem was that, even Sirius was talking to his friends that he didn't know what to do without her, [y/n] wasn't...
She closed the curtains of her bed the second she sat at the bed but even after three days, eight hours, twenty-six minutes and four seconds, she didn't open it. And she wasn't going to until she could keep them closed.
The first night was torture to all of her friends. [y/n] tried, she really tried, but the loud and agonizing sobs were coming out of her in any way... She cried for the whole night all by herself. On the first ten minutes, Lily, Marlene and even Alice were trying to find a spell to open her curtains so they could help her friend and hold her, but nothing seemed to work.
After a while, they all went to their beds and when they thought she was going to stop crying, with a couple of seconds in silence, [y/n] wasn't able to hold it and she started crying harder. Marlene was silently crying on her bed with her face on her pillow, Alice went to her dorm and Lily tried to stay, but she couldn't take it, so she went to James' room. When she got there, Sirius bed was empty and they were all sleeping, Lily felt bad by coming here but as she turned around to walk away, James stopped her.
Anyone had ever seen Lily cry so much because of something...
Marlene was the unique one on the room with [y/n], she even thought of going somewhere else just to not listen to her best friend cry on that way, but she couldn't let her alone there.
[y/n]'s heart was aching like it was never before. Her first heartbreak, when her family forgot her birthday, when Sirius appeared with scars after summer break... Nothing compared to this moment where she had to hold herself while crying because she had a broken heart that would never be fixed again, and it was all her fault.
Well, that's what she was telling herself. Even with [y/n] wanting to stop thinking about anything - because literally had a way to get to Sirius Orion Black -, her brain was repeating like a mantra that it was happening because she wasn't the perfect girl for him.
While Sirius was bad...
Oh, the boy was heartbreak.
But he didn't want to think much about it, because he was still so confused about how everything just seemed to have collapsed after just a blink.
Because it felt like it, a second he was holding her and then he blinked and she broke up with him... All Sirius wanted was to understand what made [y/n] break his heart the way she has done, but he couldn't.
First of all, he could remember pretty well of when he was worried about her breaking up with him last month (when she was just doing a surprise for him) and Lily told him about how [y/n] said once how she knew he was the one. The one she wanted to be engaged with, married, live together, have kids with and have the happily ever after.
Lily also told him how [y/n] loved Sirius more than anything in this entire world and how she would do anything for him... So, it didn't fix it.
And he also thought about everything his brain could possibly think of that could be in any way a reason for her to break up with him and he wasn't understanding why nothing fixed!
Because even when [y/n]'s mouth was telling him she wanted to break up, her eyes couldn't even look inside of his and Sirius was able to read her better than a book. He saw by how her shoulders were down that she was already depressed before finishing her sentence, the way she started hyperventilate that she was trying to not cry in front of him, how her voice was failing on the middle of the words that she was holding down her sobs, the way she was nervously playing with her own fingers, her trembling lower lip, eyes that were screaming how she loved him... Everything was telling him that she didn't want to do it.
So, why did she?
That was the question that was haunting his thoughts since the first second he took to think about what had happened there.
Sirius thought that staying at the Astronomy Tower would help him to think about it, just like it had always helped [y/n] to study, but nothing was helping him...
Then he got frustrated with all of this bullshit. All he had to do was talk to [y/n], right? Then she would explain to him what actually happened and everything would be alright again because they would get back together and be happy just like they were.
And, while Sirius was thinking about what he was going to say to [y/n] so she would explain everything to him, Marlene, Lily and Alice woke up really early and ran to Professor McGonagall's classroom. If there was someone with more experience in heartbreaks than the girls and that would be willing to help [y/n] was Minerva.
It wasn't a lie to anyone that [y/n] was one of her favourite students - but if you ever told this to McGonagall, she would deny - and she would be happy to help.
So, when the girls explained to her why [y/n] wasn't there at class, why she also wasn't on the great hall for meals and how she was trying to stay distant from everyone, Minerva went right away with the girls to their dorm to check up on [y/l/n].
The same second the professor passed through the Fat Lady portrait, all the students at the common room during their free period looked at McGonagall like she was an alien inside of Hogwarts, maybe it was because she was supposed to be teaching Transfiguration to fifth years, but just maybe...
As they got close to the dorm's door, Marlene - that was the last one to leave - noticed that [y/n]'s sobs had finally stopped and all that they could hear were soft sniffles, heavy breathing and her bed creaking as [y/n] moved around to find a comfortable position that she hadn't been on the last days.
When the girls opened the door for Minerva, the first thing she noticed was the spell around the girl's bed so no one would bother her and if it was in another situation, the professor would be proud of her by such a well-done spell.
[y/n] was crying in a typical way without tears. Because there weren't any more tears to fall from her eyes.
"How long has it been?" Minerva asked while looking at the girls beside her that just shrugged her shoulders.
"Three days..." [y/n]'s raspy voice came out as a whisper but was stopped by a quiet sob. "Three days, ten hours, seven minutes and third-six seconds."
All the girls (and the woman) in the room felt their hearts clench with [y/n]'s hurt voice and how she knew exactly the time that had passed since the breakup. McGonagall, with just a shake of her wand and a whisper under her breath, made the spell open [y/n]'s curtains and in just a second they saw [y/n] wearing Sirius' quidditch jersey and her arms tightly holding one of her pillows to her chest as her legs tried to get closer to herself. She looked so vulnerable there, sitting alone at her bed, with swollen and red eyes...
Lily could feel that, if Sirius saw her like this, he would go back in time and make her sit at the right table on Potions Class, so she would never see how he was struggling with the potion, she would never have helped him to do it and they would never fall for each other.
Marlene was the fastest one to jump on [y/n]'s bed and hold her like their both lives depended on it.
Her soft arms wrapped around her best friend's body as [y/n]'s arms begrudgingly let go of her warm pillow, soon wrapping around Marlene's neck and gold blond hair. A single tear feel from [y/n]'s left eye, softly laying on her friend's shoulder.
Lily and Alice followed Marlene just right behind her and the three girls held their friend as close as they could. Minerva couldn't hold back the little smile that appeared on her face while seeing the girls caring so much about each other.
"Miss [y/l/n], I think you should get ready for your next class." McGonagall said softly and all the girls looked at her. [y/n] looked at her favourite professor with a grateful glance, that Minerva answered with a little nod.
The girls helped [y/n/n] get dressed, but even with her friends helping her, the girl just didn't seem to say anything to them about what happened between her and Sirius... But they knew that she was going to share with them every detail of her thoughts as soon as she was ready, and they just couldn't push it, even if they wanted to - which they didn't.
-
Sirius had been looking everywhere for [y/n].
Since he decided what he wanted and needed to say to her, Sirius ran downstairs from the Astronomy Tower and started to look for her at the corridors, classrooms, bathrooms, basically everywhere she could be, he had looked for.
His right hand went through his dark black locks in frustration as he looked around himself to see if he could grab a glimpse of [y/n]'s gorgeous [y/h/c] hair or anything that would make his mind scream to him that she was there and he should talk to her. But not even a red, gold blond or almost-white blond from any of the girls to give him some kind of hope that the love of his life could be any close to him.
All he noticed was a jet black hair, just like his, being followed by two other long dark hair. Regulus, Bellatrix and Narcissa. "What?" Sirius muttered to himself under his breath as he saw three of his family members walking to the staircases that led to the Gryffindor common room but the exact opposite way to the Slytherin one, with narrowed eyes...
Sirius didn't need to read minds to know that something was wrong. Something was telling him that he should go after them, that nothing good could come from it. So he did.
Sirius' black boots were tapping the castle floors through the crowds of students as silently as he could to not be seen by his family relatives as he followed them at the corridors. He was feeling like one of the spies from the muggle movies [y/n] had showed him before while hiding behind people, pillars, trash cans and anything he could use to not be noticed.
And then, the trio suddenly turned on an empty corridor, almost filed with fully darkness and Sirius stopped on the right side of the entrance to the hall. Just as he looked at it, Sirius felt his eyes shine with the beautiful sight that [y/n] was to his eyes. She didn't need much to be stunning...
'Wait...' He's thoughts stopped on the second that the reality fell upon him. 'Why are my brother and cousins talking to my girlfr-, ex-girlfriend, on a empty hall? And why does she look so scared?'
"[y/l/n]..." Regulus said and stopped in front of her, blocking her way and the light vision Sirius had of her.
"Look, I did exactly what asked me to, ok? Just let me be..." She snapped back with a trembling and weak voice that made Sirius want to run and just hold her in his arms again.
"We know and I just came here to say that my mother would be thankful for your help... If you weren't a mudblood, you know." Regulus said and Sirius' forehead frowned with anger and confusion. 'My mother asking [y/n/n] for a favor?'
"I didn't do it because your mother asked me to, I just broke up with Sirius because you were up to hurt him if i didn't do it. So, shut up because I don't need your mother's 'thank you's or anything else that comes from her." [y/n] said while poking Regulus' chest. "You should bother someone else with your puppies."
[y/n] passed through them, hitting her shoulder with Regulus' left one and Sirius felt like there was a light bulb above his head being turned on. It all finally made sense, the way that [y/n] didn't want to break up with him, the way she was worried sick with him the whole week, the way she almost freaked out when she thought that the spell hit Sirius and not Peter... And it was all his family's fault.
Sirius didn't know what to do to fix this hugeous mess that was happening just under his nose, but he knew that he needed to take his family threats and intentions far from him and his love before he went to talk to her.
He silently thanked Godric Gryffindor when [y/n] went to the other side of the corridor and didn't notice him there, eavesdropping on their serious conversation. Sirius would take care of this talk with her later...
Just when Regulus started to walk out of the scary corridor, Sirius stopped in front of his little brother, that nervously gulped loudly with the sight of the last person who should hear about their mother's plan.
"You know I love you, Reg. And I know it's not your fault, but if I ever see you talk to [y/n] again, you'd wished you never listened to mother for once." Sirius said calmly. "And don't forget to tell her that there's no way I'm gonna let this girl go, I love her more than anything in this entire world and any of you will take her away from me."
Sirius turned around and walked away from a scared and disappointed - with himself - Regulus and ran to find the unique girl who could make him do those crazy things and don't regret anything after...
Sirius even felt himself starting to hit a few people while he tried to pass through the slow people walking around but he didn't bring himself to stop and care about them while he had to look for her as fast as he could. His heartbeat was in an almost impossible speed, his hands sweating and lightly trembling with anticipation, his mind running around the whole castle while his body was trying to follow his thoughts... Until he saw her.
His whole world froze and all he could see was [y/n] calmly walking to her next class, just like everyone else around her - who his eyes didn't bother to focus or pay attention to. All Sirius was seeing was [y/n].
And before he could notice his movements or think of what he would do when he got to her, his legs were bringing him the closer he could get to her. And, when he thought that the world wasn't moving already, Sirius felt everything else disappear when [y/n] turned around by his hand touching her shoulder.
[y/n] have never looked more gorgeous to him before...
Even with the sore eyelids, the dark bag under her eyes, her without-life skin, her pale lips, her tired eyes and the frown on her forehead when her eyes captured the sight of him... [y/n] couldn't be anymore gorgeous even if she wanted to.
"Sirius?" Her surprised and confused whisper fell upon dead ears as Sirius grabbed the sides of her face and glued his lips on hers.
They've done it so many times before, but after passing days thinking that they would never do it again, made it as special as the very first time, two years ago, in their fourth year.
[y/n] didn't kissed back in the first seconds, but she didn't pull away neither. [y/n] knew she shouldn't, actually, she couldn't do it, but she just couldn't bring herself to stop it and pull away from Sirius' touch. And in a few seconds, she felt her whole body melt onto the kiss as [y/n] finally kissed him back.
Sirius felt a wave of relief pass through his body as it was a shock while [y/n] felt all her organs burning from inside out. At that moment, neither of them knew how they survived the last three days, fifteen hours, forty-three minutes and six seconds without feeling each other's touch.
Sirius' hands fell from her face to her waist like there was the place they belonged to and [y/n]'s hands ran in the direction of his dark hair, getting lost in there like it was the maze she was used of going every single day.
When [y/n] felt her mind dizzy with one of the best kisses they ever shared, she separated her lips from his, but just enough for them to be felt almost touching, their foreheads touching and their hot breathes mixing.
"Sirius, wh-" [y/n] started, but before she could keep going, Sirius abruptly interrupted her.
"I know the truth." [y/n] could have opened her eyes wide as a fish if they weren't glued closed with tiredness. "And I don't care. They took a lot from me, but they're not taking you, just over my dead body..." Sirius said and took a breath to keep going. "I love you, I want you. I only care about you. I don't care about what they think is right for me, because it's you. Only you, [y/n]."
"I love you too, Siri." That was all that [y/n] could let out with a trembling voice but with the biggest certain that she ever had about anything in this world.
They needed each other and nothing would be on their way to happiness and love.
☀︎︎☀︎︎☀︎︎☀︎︎☀︎︎
+ bonus: (Sirius' letter to his mother)
Dear Mother, hope you and father are going well, even if you don't care about me. I think you heard from someone (probably Reg) that your master plan wasn't so good and it didn't work out... I just wanted to say that I'm sorry if you think I'm ever going to stay away from [y/n]. I love her more than I've ever loved anything in this world and I don't care about her blood status - which just makes me love her more. I think you won't understand me because your marriage wasn't pretty much your choice, but all I'm asking you is to let her alone. Every single choice I've done until now were decided by me, and anyone else should take the consequences for it. If you ever have a problem with me, I don't want you to make Regulus do your dirty little job, I want for you to talk to me. Thank you for reading so far and I won't be coming home anymore, neither receiving any letters from you. So, enjoy this picture of me and my gorgeous girlfriend, being happy on a beautiful sunset, just the two of us. I love her and only her, hope someday you'll understand that she's an amazing woman and deserve all the happiness and love the world can give her. Goodbye, mother... Sincerely, Sirius Orion Black.
“’...her mother Andromeda was my favorite cousin,’ said Sirius, examining the tapestry closely.” (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix)
in 1953, the second little Black girl was born. two-year-old bellatrix peered into the crib, chin already learning how to hold itself in the haughty manner her mother’s did. later, the tiny form in the cradle would learn to toddle about behind bella, following her as faithfully as her sister would ever follow voldemort.
bellatrix was her father’s daughter, and narcissa was her mother’s, but andromeda felt always caught in-between. she did not have the fair hair and dainty features of narcissa, nor the strong chin and determined build of bella. the day she stopped following bellatrix around, she learned that loyalty sometimes comes only so long as mindless obedience follows. without her little sister constantly admiring her and doing whatever she asked, bella’s proud little smile turned to a smirk whenever andromeda was near. they remained friends still for a long time after, but andromeda’s place in bella’s heart had fallen, and it would never find such high purchase again.
narcissa followed neither, imitating instead everything their mother wished her to be. andromeda could not remember a time her sister hadn’t worn gloves, mindful always of her pretty little palms. she acted out occasionally, it was true, but her fits of temper learned from her father’s stern gaze, and she became a little lady instead, spoiled and proper and everything their aristocratic family could have hoped for.
bellatrix was a leader; their father claimed he’d known it from her first wail, for even then her tone had been commanding. she led andromeda and narcissa through all matters, teaching them (though neither kindly nor patiently) how to size up one’s enemies and social prey, which families were to be associated with and which were to be ignored, who could be preyed upon and how to get away with it. narcissa practiced eagerly the subtler arts of the social games they waged against other children, while bellatrix wielded their family name as her brash blade. when that was not enough, there was always her anger, which crackled out of her like fireworks against anyone who dared challenge her. andromeda was never sure if bella meant to use her magic, or if it was like the times her own untamed magic sometimes shot out without warning.
in 1959, a little Black cousin was born. andromeda’s aunt named him sirius, and he was every bit as willful a child as bella must’ve been, once upon a time. when a screaming regulus arrived two years later, however, sirius took the mantle of brother more willingly than bella had of sister. he protected that little baby as watchfully as any two-year-old could, and andromeda loved them both.
bellatrix went marching off to school, but she did hug her sisters tightly before boarding the train. she squeezed andromeda’s hand and gave narcissa a small trinket, though she said little at the time. they watched the first of their little band ride off into a new beginning, and the two sisters went back home to tears in the night that neither would ever speak of.
bella changed, but in many ways, she stayed the same. andromeda sometimes wondered how everyone else was always so surprised by her later. the darkness in her sister had lived there forever; it blossomed, of course, but not from nowhere. she was no more unkind than she’d ever been to her sisters, not yet, but ambition was raking its iron claws through her embers and stoking up a fire.
a four-year-old sirius told andromeda she was his favorite. she laughed but hushed him, listening always for the creak of the floorboards beneath her aunt’s heels. one never knew where walburga might lurk in that ancient, miserable house.
two years later, andromeda no longer had to be left behind. she bought her school things and chose a pet and bounded up the train right behind bella.
a cold hand shot out, grabbing her wrist. a flash of black eyes, cold calculation and irritation- and then bella relaxed slightly, as though nothing had happened at all.
“we don’t sit together,” she said, releasing her grip on andromeda. she showed her sister what people she should sit with, and she was gone.
another two years passed, with bella’s attention clearly no longer so focused on her as it had been before hogwarts. but that was fine; andromeda made a few friends and learned to be a good slytherin, though already the Black name had begun to chafe up against her. narcissa joined them, and it seemed as though she became the most popular girl in her year overnight. bella had her gang of slytherins that whispered already of dark marks and vengeance, and though bella had made the invitation- several times- andromeda had no interest in joining.
eventually, bella left school and entered into the lestrange family. andromeda was the maid of honor, and for the first time in years, bella looked at her like she loved her. both knew bella did not love her husband, but for a few minutes at the reception, bella and andromeda whispered to each other at a back table, and all felt as it had been before.
sirius would be making his own trip to hogwarts before long. already, he clamored for every detail he could wring from andromeda. pranking bella and narcissa had its fun, but he loved most the stories andromeda spoke of in her letters. they’d sent her owl back and forth since he was eight, and soon, he told her, it would be his letters going to her from hogwarts.
it was her seventh year before she knew it, and a muggleborn named ted finally put the feeling she’d had as long as she could remember into sharp focus. she knew her family was wrong, but she had a reason to fight now- and she did.
1972, the last time she saw her sisters; it was the night before her wedding. the tonkses were kind people, and it was to be a muggle marriage- she’d slip smoothly into his life and his world and his family, if only her own would let it go uninterrupted. she hadn’t seen bella or narcissa since graduating hogwarts, for she’d returned to ted’s home rather than her own after that. it had been a peaceful year, and the couple had since moved out into their own flat- nothing fancy, but ted’s job was steady and her own work felt worthwhile, and they were happy. she and sirius sent their letters, and he seemed happy too, finding his own home within the gryffindors.
still, it felt like she’d been waiting to hear that crack! in the next-door park ever since she’d left. andromeda stepped out into the night and watched two figures approach, and it felt to her that no time had passed at all.
both clutched tightly the wedding invitations she’d sent them, though bella’s had clearly been through more wear. a dark ruby glittered on her ring finger, so dark it was almost black, as her knuckles whitened.
“dromeda,” narcissa breathed, as they reached her. for a moment, andromeda thought her sister would embrace her, but she remained by bella’s side.
“this is enough,” bella snapped, her harsh whisper barely an effort to be courteous of the neighbors. “this has gone on long enough- come home, andromeda.”
andromeda steeled herself- but narcissa spoke again, gentle. “I’ve spoken with Father- all will be forgotten, if you’ll only come with us. they’ve been telling people you’ve been abroad-”
“no, cissy,” andromeda said, firm. “I have not been abroad, and I am not coming ho- going back.
bella glared. those eyes could burn holes into ordinary wizards, but andromeda was not just any witch. she had seen the fury behind those black eyes and knew all too well the harsh consequences of their direction, but she stood taller than them now.
the invitation was thrust into her hand, but the bony hand seized beyond andromeda’s palm to clutch around her wrist, just as it had all those years ago. bella jerked her sister roughly forward, revealing to her and narcissa the engagement ring gleaming against her skin.
“a common sapphire?” bella laughed; it grated against andromeda’s ears. “this is what you leave us for? a pauper mudblood and his-”
“let go, bella.” controlling herself, andromeda shook off her sister.
bellatrix’s face knotted up; she did not give second chances lightly, and andromeda knew already that she would never be given a third. instead, she turned to narcissa.
of course cissy cried. cissy always cried. it was easy to get her way like that, round blue eyes filling up and that perfect little pucker- but andromeda knew her too well. that night, however, cissy did not cry as she did for their father. she simply stared, tears flowing down her cheeks as she took no notice.
too soon, bella was gripping narcissa’s arm and turning on her heel, never breaking her glare for a moment until she’d vanished into the night.
she did not tell sirius. he wrote of regulus and three wild young friends, and she spoke of the wedding he had not been allowed to attend and the baby that arrived all too soon the next may. he promised to find a way to meet little nymphadora, but she gave stern warnings against it. in the Black family, one was not allowed mistakes simply for being thirteen and foolish.
he did meet dora eventually, and loved her as easily as he’d loved regulus. she was delighted by the dark waves of hair falling around his face, and promptly changed hers to match.
he came to visit for easter holidays every year, telling his parents he was staying at hogwarts. she heard about his separation from the family when he sent an owl from a friend’s house. it stung for a moment, that he had not come to her, but it was easier to drag an unruly heir from a disgraced relative than a family like the potters. what surprised her was that they never tried; firstborn sons were not an investment that pureblood lines gave up easily. things at home must have been far more dire than he’d ever let on to her.
their uncle alphard’s death gave andromeda and sirius each a small inheritance. finally, andromeda felt that she could breathe, not having to worry about securing nymphadora’s magical education. sirius had the means to move out on his own, and he chose an apartment not far from his cousin’s.
he told andromeda in quiet words what had happened to his brother. he never spoke of regulus again after that.
she watched him and his friends join the war. she and ted couldn’t risk it, not with little dora needing them, but she checked up on sirius every week in disguise. the times were dangerous and she could no longer bring nymphadora to visit, and he used his animagus form rarely, not wanting the death eaters or the ministry to make the connection. in the short hour-long visits they snatched up, they spoke over tea of the years they would spend after the war.
it had taken their siblings from both of them. as far as blood went, they were the last real family they had to each other, and they clung to futures where sirius could take nymphadora shopping for sweets and magical trinkets.
november of 1981, remus lupin turned up at her door. the war was over and voldemort had fallen, but the headline of the paper he gave her with shaking hands told a story she could not comprehend.
the sunrises of those tea-steeped futures died that day. sirius was locked away, and nymphadora grew up with only her father’s family.
at hogwarts, dora was fed the myths and lies of the traitor sirius black and his whole death eater family. she was taught to hate every single one, and andromeda did not know how to tell the story of the cousin who had railed against them all until the day he hadn’t.
in 1974, ted called from the garden, amused by something he’d found. she squinted through the window, peering through the evening’s darkness.
and standing among the peonies, a large black dog stared back.
In Too Deep
(Used song 'In Too Deep - Why Don't We' for inspiration)
Used to be scared of the ocean
'Cause I didn't know how to swim
I took one sip of your potion
Now I'm just divin' right in
For as long as Regulus could remember, he would have nightmares of the ocean swallowing him whole and dragging him down to the unknown depths many levels below the earth’s surface. His siblings taught themselves to swim in the lake in the forest near their manor.
Regulus never followed. He panicked just even setting foot on the land where the lake was. Ever since the first dream, he would drink water with a straw, he would never take a bath but rather clean himself with rags, water, and soap, he hated the rain, and washing the dishes or his hands made his heart pound.
When Regulus was eighteen, he signed himself up for a Suicide Mission besides the protests of his sisters and brother. He loved James, he loved his daughter, but he had to make his mother proud of him. So he took on the task of finding the locket for Tom Riddle even after Tom asked him many times ‘Are you sure?’.
“Why are you all protesting?” Regulus asked, sitting on the table in the meeting hall.
“You can’t swim.” Narcissa pleaded.
“Inferi will drag you down before you can even get to a cure for the water!” Bellatrix added on. “You are not strong enough, you have a fear of water, someone would have to go with you but it has never worked before.”
“I’ll take the risk.” Regulus whispered. “I love you.”
I heard your siren's call, it was beautiful I am drowning, God, please don't save me
Regulus took a deep breath in as he packed his bags. He was leaving Hogwarts tonight - he used to be excited to leave because it meant freedom. Now he dreaded it. He no longer wanted to leave because the chance for freedom was now shattered.
Was he ruining his future? Were his siblings right?
Regulus took the route down to the Gryffindor Common Room once more. Seeing the painting he used to run through with his brother and his idiot friends sent flutters through his body. An overwhelming sense of sadness he had never felt before filled his soul.
“Damn you, James.” He chuckled, making his way to the platform where the carriages were to take them to the train.
Regulus remembered the first time he saw James... Or at least noticed him. He was thirteen. James was sixteen. Sixteen and holding hands with a slightly annoyed Lily who was also holding hands with Remus... Who was holding hands with Sirius. Those four did everything together.
He felt it was wrong to fall for his best friend’s brother and someone his family would hate but something inside him also did not care. For once he did not care about something. James was beautiful. James was everything Barty was not.
But at the same time he was still drowning. He had been drowning since that day at the lake. His siblings had not noticed, but Cygnus tried to get him to swim. Regulus slipped and the only person who saved him was Bellatrix. She stayed with him on the bank until everyone was ready to head home. James had not known this.
Regulus had not told him because he knew this suicide mission was coming. James would have stopped him. James deserved something and someone better than him. Whether that was Lily or Remus and Sirius - it just was not him.
Regulus Black.
Baby Black.
Goodbye was coming.
Goodbye was all they were meant to be.
Forever was never for him.
Forever was for his brother.
Forever was for James and someone else.
His brother had everything he never had...
Happiness. An amazing boyfriend. Love. A chosen family. A colorful life. Bravery. Confidence.
FREEDOM
I’m in too deep
Can’t touch the bottom with my feet
Don’t know what you did to me, I can’t breathe but I’m living
I’m in too deep
Can’t touch the bottom with my feet
Don’t know what you did to me, I can’t breathe but I’m living
Bravery.
One thing Regulus Black never had.
Or so he thought.
He was brave enough to date James Potter. An “enemy”. He was brave enough to put himself on the Slytherin Quidditch team.
Did he do it to get closer to James? Probably.
Did he do it to see his brother more? Definitely.
Regulus was brave. He just did not see it within himself. He saw broken pieces that couldn’t be mended. He saw flaws where others saw beauty. He was just as dark as Andromeda pretended she wasn’t. They were ‘Blacks’ , it is what they were.
Dark.
Powerful.
Malicious.
James told him at one point they were being brainwashed. It was after Regulus unknowingly shared stories of what Cygnus had done to his sisters. He quickly left the Gryffindor Common Room after that for fear of sharing any other family secrets.
Regulus was afraid of mirrors. He turned them around in his room which was dark with no colour, save for the dark forest green that had always been his favourite. He was supposedly supposed to be a Gryffindor. He couldn’t see himself in that house. He knew he would be a Slytherin through and through.
Like his family.
He was wrong.
He was a snake with a lion’s heart. He wondered if he would even be on this mission if he had taken the Hat’s suggestion. He wondered if he would still be with James.
Yet here he was. Standing at the entrance of Sirius’ bright room staring at the mess, the evidence that someone once lived there, unlike his own room, which felt cold and unlived. Empty and sad. Like a ghost passing through. Mourning a life of happiness.
Where Sirius had pictures of his friends scattering the walls adorned by Gryffindor banners and posters of girls to annoy his parents despite how gay he was or makeup strewn all over his vanity and floor...
Regulus had books. On his desk, on his bookshelf filled to the brim, on his nightstand, in his closet. It was the only colour he had. Everything had a home. He never misplaced or moved anything and he would be livid at anyone for a week if they moved something just an inch.
Now all that was left in his room was a cold presence.
Regulus ran to Sirius’ bed and buried himself in the mess of blankets. He missed his big brother’s hugs. He almost had forgotten what Sirius smelled like. He wanted his brother. His mother forbade them from seeing each other and he obeyed. He even declined when his Uncle Alphard tried getting them to meet up. It broke his heart but he didn’t want to be disowned like Pandora, Rosier, Andromeda, and Sirius. He didn’t want to be hung like Alastair. Narcissa escaped long ago.
It was just him.
Fighting alone.
Healing alone.
Crying alone.
Alone.
Alone.
Alone.
I’m in too deep
Ah ooh-ah-ooh-ooh
Ah ooh-ah-ooh-ooh
I’m in too deep
Ah ooh-ah-ooh-ooh
Alone is all he has known. He knew he and James were going to end. As soon as they met it was goodbye. As soon as they met he was still alone even if James had said many times he had been found. He was seen. He was heard. He was no longer alone.
Regulus could not believe it no matter how many times he told himself. Everyone had left him. James would do the same. Except now Regulus felt guilty because he was the one that made James leave. He had begged James to leave instead of accepting the older boys’ help.
He then realized he pushed everyone away. It was safer that way. They would not get hurt when he dies. They got hurt anyway. It made Regulus sick. He should have stayed away.
If not for the suicide mission, then at his own hands. If he could not have James or Sirius then he is better off dead. Since he cannot have love and he cannot have James without doubt, anger, and beatings - he will just die. He could not wait for his mother to pass even if that meant his only path to happiness. As long as she was alive, he was miserable.
Regulus was done fighting for love. His brother was strong enough to fight for his love, but that is all Regulus had known. He fought for his mother’s attention and love. He fought for his life. For his family. He fought to stay. Regulus would not give up like Sirius did.
Sirius left.
Regulus kept going.
He was burning his hands on a rope he was gripping too tight, slipping until his hands were bleeding raw.
It was time to let go.
Treasure chest full of your diamonds
I don’t mind staying down here
Thought by now I would be dyin’
But your love gives me all my air
It scared Regulus to love this much. He had four beautiful years with James. It was time for the memories to be locked up. It was time for everything to end.
I heard your siren’s call, it was beautiful
I am drowning, God, please don’t save me
Regulus needed to see James one last time. Regulus was empty as he climbed the stairs to the apartment where Remus, Sirius, Lily, and James were living. Marlene and Dorcas were two doors down. None of them had heard from Peter in two years.
Regulus knew what Peter was doing. He also knew his mother was behind it all. Which is why he had to leave. Which is why he stayed glued on the mat, hesitating to reach up and knock.
Regulus backed out at the last minute, turning to go back and make his way to his grave.
I’m in too deep
Can’t touch the bottom with my feet
Don’t know what you did to me, I can’t breathe but I’m living
I’m in too deep
Can’t touch the bottom with my feet
Don’t know what you did to me, I can’t breathe but I’m living
“Regie?”
“Go back, James.” Regulus replied, not bothering to look back as he descended the stairs.
“Look at me.”
“I can’t.”
“Please.”
Regulus stopped on the step he was on. “James.” He sighed. He was exhausted. He was done. He was empty. There was nothing left. He didn’t know what to say when you were trying to break someone’s heart. He didn’t know what to do when you were leaving someone. He had never had to do that before. It was always the other person.
“I can’t.” Regulus shook his head, slowly taking another step down.
“Come home.”
“It never was.”
“It was and you know it.”
“Enough, James.” Regulus choked out. “I love you. It does not change the fact that I am still leaving. Nothing will.”
“Regie.”
“James. I-” He sighed, dropping his head.
“What?”
I’m in too deep
Ah ooh-ah-ooh-ooh
Ah ooh-ah-ooh-ooh
I’m in too deep
Ah ooh-ah-ooh-ooh
Ah ooh-ah-ooh-ooh
Ah ooh-ah-ooh-ooh
I’m in too deep
“What?” James pleaded, stepping one foot out the door.
“Goodbye. I love you.”
I heard your sirens call, it was beautiful
Goodbye.
That one word swam in his head as he pulled on the Gryffindor sweater and let his heavy body take him down to the edge of the lake inside the cave.
He was doing what he had to.
He would make it.
His mother would love him.
He never wanted to admit it...
But his mother hated him just as much as she hated Sirius. She was not fit to be a mother and Cygnus was never meant to be a father. Which is why she made the dumb mistake to take in his daughters and kept having kids. She should have been less selfish and given her daughters and Sirius a different life by giving them up instead of having him and Alastair. Regulus loved his own daughter. Which is why he gave her to James. To keep her safe with Cyprus.
It was too late.
Inferi were clawing at him already.
He went through with it.
I’m in too deep
Can’t touch the bottom with my feet
Don’t know what you did to me, I can’t breathe but I’m living
It was too late.
James knew this but he still grabbed his coat and fled. He knew where Regulus was going. He left a note for his family, grabbed a coat, and fled. He needed to save the insufferable git that could not see what was right in front of him.
James could not say goodbye.
He loved that bastard just as much as he loved his brother.
As much as Remus.
As much as Lily.
Maybe just a little bit more.
I’m in too deep
I never thought that you could be
A underwater symphony, I can’t breathe but I’m living
I’m in too deep
Can’t touch the bottom with my feet
Don’t know what you did to me, I can’t breathe but I’m living
Regulus looked up at the sound of echoed footsteps running toward him. He gripped the rocks harder, trying to pull himself free but he kept slipping. His hands were bruised and covered in blood but he kept trying. He would not let them take him. He had to save the locket.
“James! Leave!” He screamed.
“Not without you!” The older boy yelled back.
“I love you, now leave!”
“No! I won’t let you go!”
Regulus groaned.
James dove after Regulus, grabbing his wrists and pulling.
“If you go down, I will go down with you.” James said calmly. “I love you.” He whispered breathlessly as they went under.
Hands clawed at the both of them. James held tight to Regulus as the younger boy struggled. He went through every spell in his mind until he found one that his father had taught him. An old one not many would know anymore.
Regulus went limp in his grip as James repeated the words in his mind.
Further and further they went.
I’m in too deep
Ah ooh-ah-ooh-ooh
Ah ooh-ah-ooh-ooh
I’m in too deep
Ah ooh-ah-ooh-ooh
Ah ooh-ah-ooh-ooh
Ah ooh-ah-ooh-ooh
I’m in too deep
James soon found himself on his back in sand. He chuckled before pushing Regulus off him and getting on his hands and knees just before he ended up choking. As he coughed up water, Regulus moaned from next to him.
James side-eyed Regulus. He was bleeding through the Gryffindor sweater, his hair was a sopping, bleeding mess; the only thing that made James feel like he could keep going was the small, subtle indicators that the younger boy was still breathing.
James scrambled onto his feet as Regulus started coughing. He turned the smaller boy onto his side, getting him to expel some water from his body.
James then ripped the locket off Regulus' neck and hoisted his boyfriend onto his shoulders.
James apparated them to The Black Manor in Regulus’ room. He laid him down and put the locket in the Mahogany jewelry chest on the younger boys' bookshelf stuffed to the brim with books.
“I don’t wanna be here.” Regulus mumbled.
James kneeled next to him on the bed, caressing the youngest heir’s hair. “No one is here. As far as we know your parents are dead. While you were hiding out in that abandoned apartment complex, the dementors came searching for the locket because they thought you had it already.”
“Idiots.”
“I will be right back.”
Regulus laid there staring at the ceiling. It felt like a year had passed until James came back with a glass of water. He stuck a straw in it before handing the glass to Regulus.
“How do we destroy it?” James asked, looking at the box.
“We don’t.” Regulus answered as he sat up. James looked at him quizzically. “Lily’s pregnant, right?”
“Uh, yeah? Where are you-”
“Shh. You know I have visions.”
“You cannot possibly predict the future.”
“No, but I can say that yours and Lily’s kid will be the one to destroy it. We can try and destroy the others. Bellatrix and Tom should not have finished all of them or gotten too far.”
(As I was writing this - Listen To Your Heart; Roxette - started playing. Let me tell you I cried.)
i've always wondered why sirius hated bellatrix so much.
like, despite the fact that yes, she was a pureblood supremacist ( like the rest of their family ).
and now that i'm thinking : what if bella and sirius were once really really close ?
because we all know that they went to hogwarts together, only bellatrix was a bit older than him.
like, the first thing he did when he met james, remus and peter, was to introduce them to his bella. he was so excited, and the boys seemed to love her just like he did.
i imagine the two of them pulling pranks ( on snape, some professors and sometimes even the other marauders ) and then hiding on tiny broom closets and giggling together like crazy.
sirius was raised in a toxic household, but so was bellatrix. so they only had each other.
they would do everything together. sirius would even sneak out when the prefect patrols were over, and walk all the way to the dungeons only to spend time with his cousin. both telling each other about how shitty their day was and gossiping about positively...everyone.
he had created the marauder's map with his three friends, but he had another one on the side, that was only for her ( bella's map ). that map was capable of accurately identifying bellatrix's location, so sirius would know where she is and if she is safe. she didn't know about the map while they were still in hogwarts.
but when she left ? he was in fourth year when she left hogwarts and that's when all of it changed. bella became a death eater not even two months after graduation and when sirius found out, he ran away from home, moving in with the potters so he wouldn't have to see her willingly destroy herself, knowing that he wasn't able to do anything to save her.
at first, becoming a death eater was more to please her parents, but when sirius didn't even give her a chance to explain herself, she took it all too seriously.
years later, when sirius got sent to azkaban *1981* for 'revealing' his friend's location to voldemort, bellatrix made sure to do all the worst things ( like killing muggles ) so, one year later, she got sent to azkaban too.
when in azkaban, their cells were right beside one another's, allowing sirius to hear bellatrix's screams and mumbles everytime she had a nightmare. he knew all too well about her nightmares, she would get them every night when they were still close, and he always comforted her. not even in prison, did he make an exception. he stayed up all night, whispering sweet nothings from his cell, making sure she heard it all and didn't sleep until he knew she'd cooled out.
but in 1993, when he escaped azkaban, the nightmares got even worse, and bellatrix didn't have anyone to help her with them. they didn't speak one word while in prison, but the thought that the other was just a few meters away, made their hearts melt.
she escaped too, three years later, it was already too late. her life in prison without him was tough, and she befriended every death eater and git out there, each helping her destroy herself even more.
in 1996, she broke out of azkaban with her husband and a bunch of other death eaters, joining voldemort once again.
during the battle of the department of mysteries, that same year, bellatrix saw sirius and, in a fit of rage, knocked him through the veil, killing him.
her eyes widened instantly. she didn't mean to do it, she told herself repeatedly - but that wasn't enough. she tried to run, but tripped over her own feet right were sirius was standing just moments before. looking down, she noticed a green piece of paper that she managed to take and look over before harry reached her. it read, 'bella's map' and when she opened it, she saw herself right where she was standing in that moment 'department of mysteries, april 18, 1996. if found, please return to sirius orion black' and that was when she started crying, for the first time, the bellatrix black was really crying, not out of anger, but of deep sadness. she was genuinely letting the tears stain her cheeks in front of remus and harry, who had stopped walking towards her when they noticed the tears.
remus, an old friend of hers too, was trying desperately to get her to talk to him, but all she could manage to do was mumble. she pulled out her wand and hand it to him, before letting herself fall onto the wet, dirty floor. "please kill me" she managed to say, and remus knew that she needed it. she had only then realized that she needed sirius and he her, so remus had no other choice but to fulfill her last wish.
her vision went completely white, but when she opened her eyes again, she looked up and saw sirius standing beside her. he was caressing her cheek and his eyes bore into hers adoringly, "silly little girl" he cooed before a smile crept onto his face.
Chapter One | First Year: The First Meeting
“Hurry up! We haven’t got all day, Reg.”
Regulus rolled his eyes, trailing after his older brother with little enthusiasm. He wasn’t nearly as excited as Sirius, who'd been bouncing off the walls before they even left for Platform Nine and Three Quarters. When he had come back for the summer, he could hardly shut up about Hogwarts. It was the only thing he seemed to talk about anymore, specifically during Regulus’s piano lessons, and dancing lessons, and history lessons, and all the other lessons his mother had given him to busy himself before he got to school. It seemed she wanted him to learn every useful thing he could before studying magic, and Regulus couldn’t really blame her. Ever since Sirius got back, he’d become a complete waste of space, lounging around and scribbling away at what he said to be homework, though Regulus knew he was secretly writing letters to his friends.
Sirius had dragged him into a compartment on the train, pulling Regulus by the sleeve and saying, “You’ll love them! I know you will.” Surprisingly, Regulus had let him. He wouldn’t usually encourage such behavior, but it wasn’t every day that Sirius looked so cheerful, and part of him didn’t want to ruin that, though he’d never admit it.
Summer had been a right mess, though he wouldn’t admit that either. Bellatrix’s wedding went smoothly, but after that, everything had started going downhill. Sirius just didn’t know when to stop. He never did.
“Here we are,” Sirius said with a grin, sliding open the carriage door and gesturing to the seats.
There was only one other person in the compartment, a straw-haired boy that looked like he could be younger than Regulus. He was abnormally small for a twelve-year-old, and he looked nervous, as if he wasn’t quite sure whether he was sitting in the right seat. His eyes darted between Sirius and Regulus, no doubt noticing how similar they appeared. Maybe he was actually having trouble telling them apart.
“Sirius,” the boy greeted, finally, giving the older brother a timid smile. “Have you seen James yet?”
“He’ll be along,” Sirius said, waving a hand dismissively. “Oh!” he added, as if he’d already forgotten, “This is my brother, Regulus. Reg, this is Peter.”
Peter smiled cheerily, but Regulus shot the expression down with a fierce glare. He didn’t have time for making friends with filthy half-bloods. Instead, he brushed into the compartment and sat down in the corner seat, placing his chin in his hand and staring broodingly out the window.
“Er… Sorry ‘bout him,” Sirius said apologetically, stuffing their stuff into the luggage rack.
“S’ok,” Peter said, twisting his hands anxiously in his lap.
Sirius plopped down on the seat next to Regulus and nudged his elbow, to which Regulus shot him a glare. Surprisingly, his brother didn’t return it. He only raised an eyebrow at him quizzically, silently asking why he was in such a foul mood. But Regulus didn’t want to talk about it. He never wanted to talk about it. He wouldn’t even know where to start.
Well, that wasn’t entirely true. The source of all their troubles always led back to one person in particular; their mother. Sirius knew that better than anyone, it seemed; even better than Regulus. He always knew exactly how to get on her bad side, and did so quite often. Too often, in Regulus’s opinion, but no matter how hard he tried to get Sirius to do as he was told, he just kept disobeying. He’d already fallen out of their family's favor for being placed in Gryffindor. You’d think that might’ve been enough, but no, not for Sirius. If anything, it had given him even more determination to be the worst kind of nuisance the Black family had ever seen.
Which led to Regulus’s other problem; what house he’d be placed in. He was terrified of what would happen to him if he got into Gryffindor, or any house other than Slytherin for that matter. His mother was so adamant that he not add to the list of family disappointments; first Andromeda and now Sirius. What would happen if a third Black child was led astray? Their family reputation would be in ruins. They would fall out of favor with the other pure-blood families, and what then? Regulus wasn’t sure, but he didn’t want to find out.
It was then that the door decided to slide open, cutting Regulus’s thoughts short. He didn’t even bother to greet whoever it was - just another dirty blooded wizard his brother had befriended - but his ears still pricked upon hearing the joy in Sirius’s voice as he welcomed the newcomer.
“James!” Sirius cried, jumping out of his seat and clapping the other boy on the shoulder.
Ah, yes. The infamous blood traitor.
“Hello Sirius, been a while,” James drawled, sounding just as cheerful. “You too, Pete.”
“Hiya James,” Peter replied, much more relaxed now that the other boy had arrived.
Regulus didn’t bother to greet him, or even glance at him. He just studied the view out his window all the more intently, watching as a girl chased an orange tabby cat down the platform, attempting to squeeze through the crowd so as to not lose track of it. He saw another girl hugging their mother goodbye, tears in her eyes. Pathetic, he thought silently.
Then Regulus heard rustling from behind him as James placed his luggage on the rack. “And who’s this?” he asked no one in particular.
“Ah, that’s just my prat brother. Don’t worry bout him,” Sirius said as the boys settled into their seats. “You seen Remus?”
As if on cue, the door slid open again. Regulus rolled his eyes, becoming increasingly agitated with the noise. Was it too much to ask for a little peace and quiet? As the chorus of greetings started again, he attempted to stay focused on the platform, watching as a small boy tried to stick his fingers through an owl cage. Regulus wanted to warn him, but instead he just grimaced as the bird pecked the boy’s finger, drawing blood, and watched him burst into tears.
“Lupin!”
“Hiya lads. How’s it been?”
“We should be asking you!” James laughed. “Not one owl all summer!”
“You know I’m practically a muggle over the holidays. Couldn’t even get into my trunk to do homework; they locked it up.”
Regulus scoffed at the word muggle. He couldn’t help it. It’d become a habit he’d picked up from his mother. She always seemed proud when he did it, and it certainly didn’t hurt her mood. It was too late, however. The boy was already frowning at him. He was on the taller side, with a shaved head of hair and a glower that seemed oddly familiar. Regulus found himself not fully despising this one. At the very least, he didn’t sound nearly as cheerful as the rest of them.
“This is Reg,” Sirius introduced, now that his presence had been acknowledged. “Say hello, Reggie.”
“It’s Regulus,” he corrected irritably. Sirius only used ‘Reggie’ when he wanted to sound older, even though Regulus was the one who acted more his age.
“My darling brother,” Sirius told the boys.
Then someone shoved a hand toward him, and Regulus finally looked up to meet the gaze of the boy sitting across from him.
“Hi Regulus, I’m James,” he said, with an annoyingly friendly smile. His head was topped with dark curls, and large round glasses took up most of his face, but it didn’t stop his eyes from twinkling brightly. Regulus felt his stomach flip, no doubt a reaction from studying James’s detestable features, and looked down at his hand with all the disgust he could muster.
“Potter,” he spat.
That earned him a slap upside the head, which he flinched away from. It didn’t hurt, but whenever Sirius touched him, it always managed to take him by surprise.
“Stop being such a little prick,” Sirius snapped. “These are my friends.”
Friends. Sirius’s ‘friends’ were half-bloods and blood traitors, and Gryffindors at that. Regulus shouldn’t be seen with them. With any of them.
“I didn’t want to sit here,” he snarled at Sirius. “You made me.”
Something flickered over Sirius’s face then, and Regulus thought it might’ve been disappointment, or even guilt, but it was gone so quickly that he thought he must’ve imagined it.
“Oh, go on, piss off, then,” Sirius said coldly. “Dunno why I bothered.”
Something boiled in Regulus’s chest. Sirius had no right to hold his convictions against him. He was only trying to make their family proud, something Sirius had failed at over and over again. He thought about slapping him back, but quickly decided against it. He didn’t feel like getting into a fight. That would require yelling and hitting, both of which Regulus wanted to avoid. Instead he stood, storming out of the car and slamming the door behind him. He made his way down the corridor, realising he hadn’t bothered to grab his bag. He decided he’d just go back for it once they arrived at the castle.
“Regulus?”
He stopped short, turning to see his cousin, Narcissa Black, poking her head out of a compartment door. She’d curled the ends of her new, platinum-blonde hair, and her bright blue eyes were narrowed at him suspiciously.
“Can you not find a seat?” she frowned.
He shrugged noncommittally at his cousin, not really wanting to sit with her either. Not if she was all cozied up next to her boyfriend, Lucius Malfoy. He didn’t want to have to watch them stick their tongues down each other’s throats, which he’d already seen plenty of at Bellatrix’s wedding.
“Come,” she beckoned to him.
He clenched his jaw in silent retaliation, but still did as he was told, walking toward the compartment timidly and pausing at the door. Thankfully, his sister was not with Lucius Malfoy, but with two other Slytherin girls, who smiled at Regulus fondly. They all wore the same silvery pin on their robes, encrusted with a ‘P’ for prefect. He’d almost forgotten that Narcissa had gotten the position, but now recalled how she’d offhandedly mentioned it at the wedding. She seemed quite proud of herself when she said it, but was quickly brushed aside without so much as a single voice of praise. Regulus had wanted to say something to her about it, but never got the chance.
“This is my cousin, Regulus,” Narcissa introduced. “It’s his first year at Hogwarts.”
“Hello,” he greeted them shyly.
“Wait,” one of the girls gasped, “Isn’t he the brother of your other cousin? The one who got into Gryffindor?”
Regulus flushed with shame, his eyes darting away from the girls as he grimaced. Apparently, Sirius had already formed a reputation at Hogwarts, which would no doubt only hurt Regulus’s image further. He wished his brother would just shut up and blend in for once.
Narcissa rolled her eyes. “Ugh, please don’t bring up Sirius. He’s such a disappointment. Don’t worry though. Regulus is nothing like him. Isn’t that right, Reg?”
Regulus hesitated for a second. He felt like saying it out loud would be wrong, like some sort of betrayal, so instead he just nodded curtly.
“See? He’ll end up in Slytherin for sure.”
Then Narcissa patted the seat beside her and Regulus obeyed, sitting down next to his cousin. The girls began to chat about their summer holiday, but Regulus didn’t feel inclined to join in. Instead he looked out the window, propping his head up on his hand like he’d done before, and as he watched the countryside whiz by, he couldn’t help but feel more out of place than ever.
* * *
When they finally arrived at Hogsmeade station, Regulus slumped back to his brother’s compartment, in search of his bag. When he made it to the door, he was surprised to find the seat was still occupied by none other than James Potter. He had kicked his feet up on the opposite bench and was sucking on a Liquorice wand contentedly. Regulus’s bag sat next to him, teetering dangerously on the edge of the cushioned seats. When he opened the door, James scrambled to his feet, pulling the candy from his lips as he gave the younger boy a once over.
“Er… Regulus. Right,” he said. He grabbed the strap of Regulus’s bag and offered it to him with a smile. “I figured you might come back for it.”
Regulus snatched it from him, carefully keeping his distance from the older boy.
“Didn’t steal anything, did you?” he snarled.
James frowned at him, shouldering his own bag. “No,” he replied indignantly.
“Good,” Regulus snapped. Then he rounded on his heel and began making his way off the train. He rummaged around in the bag, just to make sure that they really hadn’t stolen anything. It seemed everything was in its place, as far as he could tell, and he allowed himself a small sigh of relief. Down the platform, someone was calling first years, and he headed in that direction, stuffing his hands in his pockets as he went.
No one had told Regulus about the boat ride across the Black Lake. Unlike the other eager students, who awed at the reflection of the glowing castle, Regulus felt a wave of uneasiness wash over him. He studied the dark water warily as the students were called into the boats, but it wasn’t like he had much choice in the matter. He took a deep breath before stepping inside and taking a seat, staring contentedly at his feet for the duration of the trip. He wondered if Sirius had conveniently forgotten to mention the lake to him, or whether he was indulging in the slow torture Regulus was currently experiencing. The trip couldn’t have lasted more than ten minutes, but to Regulus, it felt like it’d taken ages.
Then came the even harder part: the sorting.
Regulus was too apprehensive from the boat ride - and too concerned about the sorting - to care much for the magical ceiling of the Great Hall, or the floating candles, or the intimidating row of teachers at the head of the room. He just wanted to get into Slytherin, please his parents, and get it over with. That would end up attracting the least attention possible. He just wanted to fit in, and as a pure-blood, and a Black, there was no better place than Slytherin.
As the first years made their way to the front of the hall, Regulus spotted Sirius sitting at the Gryffindor table. Their eyes met briefly, but Regulus quickly glanced away, not wanting to think about what would happen if he ended up like his older brother. He could only imagine what his parents would say - or do - none of which was pleasant.
He was at least thankful that his last name started with a ‘B.’ That meant he got to be one of the first ones to go, which was better than anxiously waiting for his turn. Still, he felt his heart drop into his chest when his name was finally called. He slowly made his way to the stool, sitting on it and placing the hat on his head. It covered his eyes and most of his nose, and he jumped when a small voice spoke in his ear.
“Interesting,” it said softly. “Another Black .”
Oh Merlin, Regulus thought, Please let me be in Slytherin.
“You want to be in Slytherin?” the hat asked, though it didn’t seem all that surprised. “Are you sure? You have plenty of courage; intellect too. Not to mention your determination...”
Yeah, determination to be in Slytherin, Regulus thought sarcastically.
If the hat could laugh, Regulus thought it might’ve, because when it spoke again, it sounded exceedingly amused.
“How very resourceful of you,” it said gleefully. “Have it your way... SLYTHERIN!”
Regulus felt an enormous wave of relief crash over him, and he took the hat off, placing it back on the stool as he looked toward the uproarious table on the far right side of the room. Narcissa was smirking at him, her eyes twinkling with pride. He felt a surge of satisfaction then, and made his way to the table, his peers shaking his hand excitedly.
Suddenly, a boy with greasy black hair and a long, pointy nose patted him on the back. “Lucky you’re not a foul git like your brother, eh Black?”
Regulus felt a hot sear of anger flash through him, and he had the overwhelming urge to break the boy’s already ugly looking nose. He shoved the feeling down, however, as he always did, instead following the boy’s gaze over to the Gryffindor table. His eyes landed on Sirius, who was staring directly at him. His expression was unreadable, but there was something heavy in his gaze. After a second, Sirius looked away, his long hair falling into his face as he turned towards James to say something.
Regulus watched them for a moment before Narcissa grabbed his shoulders and smothered him in a hug. He cringed, trying to squeeze out of it, but she was a lot stronger than he was. Finally, she pulled away.
“Our family is going to be so proud, Regulus!” she beamed, elated. “I can’t wait to show you everything! You’re going to love our common room.”
Regulus only smiled, too taken aback to say anything. He rarely ever got hugs, especially not from his family, but he had to admit she seemed freer here; happy even. Possibly more exuberant than Regulus had ever seen her at home. She sat him down beside her, and the sorting continued. He attempted to catch Sirius’s eye again, but his brother didn’t so much as glance in his direction for the rest of the ceremony.
The feast was a welcome distraction from this, however, and Regulus indulged himself in the wide selection of foods. He never got to choose what he ate at home, so this small freedom was a welcome one. Then, when dessert came, he regretted filling his plate so much, thinking he might combust if he had one more bite.
“But you barely had anything!” Narcissa exclaimed as she offered him a platter of chocolate eclairs.
Regulus only shook his head, nauseated just by the thought of taking one. His cousin shrugged, picking out one for herself and lowering it onto her plate.
The greasy haired boy had introduced himself as Severus Snape, and the boy to his left was Garrick Mulciber. To Regulus, they both seemed frightfully impertinent, but Narcissa talked to them conversationally, smiling wickedly whenever they began to complain about the other houses. Severus brought up a group called ‘the marauders’ once or twice, but Regulus wasn’t curious enough to listen to his pompous complaints. Instead, he chatted with the first year who’d sat down next to him, a freckled boy named Bartemius Crouch.
“They just call me Barty though,” he told Regulus through a spoonful of pudding. “I’m jealous. Regulus sounds much smarter.”
“Well, thanks,” Regulus said with a small smile. “I think Barty is alright.”
Barty let out a sharp laugh in response. “Yeah, right,” he said sarcastically, grinning as he took another helping of pudding.
Regulus smirked and shrugged. “Actually, I think Sirius has the coolest-”
“For Salazar’s sake, please don’t bring him up,” Narcissa interjected. “You’ll only make things worse for yourself.”
Regulus glanced over at her, wondering if she was joking, only to be met with a look of genuine aversion. He blinked at her for a moment before turning his gaze toward his crumb filled plate. Suddenly, he felt quite bad for his older brother. Sure, he had a knack for trouble and a flair for rebellion, and he did bring quite a mess to their family name, but he was still Sirius. He was still their family.
Narcissa seemed to notice his dejection and let out an annoyed sigh. “Don’t you remember what happened with Andromeda?” she asked tightly.
Regulus jerked his head up to look at her. He didn’t need reminding.
Hey if you're still looking for Remus Lupin asks, then can you do one about how he hopelessly and madly falls in love with a hufflepuff reader who either a.) Dies in the wizarding war (one or two) or b.) Is dating someone else.
I want A N G S T...
OH OH YOU WANT ANGST!??? I’VE GOT ANGST
Time seemed frozen to you, standing in the ministry. You were there with your best friends and comrades in battle, Sirius and Remus. You were fighting for them, praying to God you’d see an end to all of this soon. You were busy trying to get the kids out of there when Remus noticed you glare at Bellatrix. She was trying to rush Sirius.
You bolted forward pulling Sirius out of the way for what should’ve been his final blow. Instead it was yours. Remus’s eyes widened as you stumbled back and Sirius lunged forward, catching you in his arms as your cold dead gaze landed on Remus, sending one last hopeful smile before you let out one last breath. The sound of your wand hitting the floor was deafening, Remus having to be restrained in case Bellatrix was to strike him.
The rest of the Inquisition bolted the second that Dumbledore made himself present. Remus sprinted over, elevating your head in his lap. He brushed aside the locks of hair and held your cheeks letting out a few choked sobs. “We have to get out of here!” Hermione breathed. “We have to take back her body.” Sirius muttered, still in shock. “But--” “We have to.” Harry agreed, remembering Cedric’s final words to him. So they did, Sirius and Remus both coming back to the HQ with blank stares of sadness. Molly felt as if she lost a sister when she saw you in their arms. They had to empty out your room, feeling a sense of dread as they did. Then Sirius noticed something tucked behind your bed’s headboard. He pulled it up to find a letter addressed to Remus. “Mooney.” Sirius called. Remus wiped his eyes and turned away from your clothes trunk. “Hmm?” He asked. “This is addressed to you.” Sirius said, handing him the letter. Remus took it, opening it carefully. You used a yellow wax seal, pressing some sort of white flower into the wax. You loved doing that. Flowers in the wax.
“Dear Remus,
So no secret here, if you found this I’m probably dead. God this is crazy right? Having to watch our best friend’s kid fight a war instead of having an actual childhood? It’s insane. Lily would’ve lost her mind right about now. It’s funny, writing this letter has made me think of them. Truth be told I actually have letters for everyone. You, Fred, George, Harry, Tonks, Sirius, hell even Moody has one. But yours is different. This letter is me venting to you and telling you something I kept secret for years. God I’m nervous, even in a fucking letter.
I love you Remus. I have since our third year when you called me ‘Red Tail’ for the first time. I have loved you through every full moon, every moment where you’ve tried to get rid of me but I have flat out refused because I know how lonely it must be, I have loved you since we pulled that one prank on Slughorn, I have loved you since we joined the order, I have loved you since I shook hands with the scarred boy because we were both nervous to go to Hogwarts, I have loved you for years now. I don’t know if I’ve already told you this or something, maybe I knew my demise was happening. If I already told you then please just... Hold on to that feeling okay?
I want you to spend the rest of your years actually living. We were thrown into this war, just like Harry. We may have had more of a childhood but my God we never got a chance to truly live. Words cannot describe how unbelievably painful it was to see Sirius have no freedom for twelve years because of Peter. I hope that you live Remus. I hope that you get to meet Harry’s future kids. I hope Sirius is finally free one day. I hope that you get to see an end to this ridiculous war. I hope you get to have that freeing moment of watching that bastard Voldemort finally bite the dust, but most of all I hope you live a long and fulfilling life. Promise me that you’ll try to live a long life.
I should probably end this. Fred says there’s about to be a meeting.
Love, Y/n.”
Remus kissed the parchment, your scent making him break down. He barely slept that night, him not letting go of that letter the entire night. When he finally fell asleep he saw you. You were sitting in a chair in front of him. He bolted upright and you jumped back slightly. “Someone’s awake.” You laughed. He hugged you, him falling to his knees as he clung to your waist. You kneeled to him, looking in his eyes. “Hey... Don’t cry Mooney, I’m okay.” You assured. He looked at you with this pained look. “I read your letter.” He said. Your expression faltered but he continued. “I love you too Y/n... I just wish that- that you were here to know that.” He said. “I’m here now.” You said. “This is a dream.” He said. “That doesn’t mean it’s not real Rem.” You said simply. He pressed a kiss to your knuckles, looking at you. You looked at him with this indescribable expression. It was almost sad but happy at the same time. You pulled your hand back, slipping off your ring that bared the badger of your house. You put it in his palm and kissed his forehead. “Promise me you’ll live as long as possible?” You asked. He nodded slowly, clutching your ring. “I promise.” He said.
He sucked in a breath, leaning off the wall after waking up. He clenched the letter but realized something else was in his hand. He lifted his hand to see the silver ring with a badger on it. He let out a sad chuckle, kissing the silver and leaning back looking at the sunrise through the window.
//tw blood, violence, stabbing//
remus landed softly on their street, his ears sensitive from the last full moon. behind the shutters he could make out flashes of light in various colours until a green one made him freeze.
remus threw the knee-high gate open and pulled out his wand. despite bursting in, the level of volume within the house covered his entrance.
his eyes widened as he passed a body slumped against the wall in the hallway. he knelt next to it, extending two shaking fingers to the person’s neck. his fingers were retracted quickly as he felt breath and noticed the pulsating dark mark.
remus moved into the kitchen and stopped when he heard sirius’ voice.
“TELL ME! TELL ME WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO HIM!”
remus cracked the door open slightly, the small amount of light he let in elongating sirius’ shadow. bellatrix’s body was convulsing on the floor, twitching as she took ragged breaths. he watched as her fingers slid silently across the smooth tiles before remus pieced together what she was about to do.
his foot came down hard on the wand, breaking it in two. her fingers recoiled as her knees flew up to her chest, protecting the skin sirius had broken open.
remus watched as the knife disappeared once again into bellatrix’s body. he looked up at sirius slowly, watching as the man before him became unrecognisable.
leaning back on his heels, sirius ran a quick hand through his hair, smearing blood across his pale cheeks.
sirius stood up, the knife dripping. he took a step towards remus as remus simultaneously took one away, his back flat against the wall.
“remus. remus i-”
remus shook his head. sirius moved closer, reaching out to his husband. remus’ eyes couldn’t help but float down to the knife that was still in sirius’ hand.
“remus? oh my god, remus no. of course not.”
remus shrugged weakly, still leaning away uncertainly.
“you killed her” he whispered eventually.
“she was going to kill me.”
“you stabbed her. y-you were torturing her. i saw you. the way you were stood over her; screaming at her-”
sirius’ fist closed tightly around the knife’s handle and remus gulped.
“hear me out.”
“what?” remus snapped. “no. just answer one question.”
sirius raised an eyebrow to indicate he was listening.
“did you enjoy it?”
“oh because you’ve never killed before.”
remus pursed his lips: “not family.”
sirius swore loudly, throwing the knife past remus until it hit the photo frame hanging on the wall, causing it to crack. it fell to the floor and remus watched, frozen.
“they,” sirius breathed heavily, pointing a shaking finger at the body on the floor, “are not my family.”
instead of allowing the thousands of words he had bottled up to spill out, remus released the small noise that was caught in his throat. he fiddled absentmindedly with the silver band on his finger, twisting it so furiously until it came off.
“you can’t treat family like that.”
“SHE WAS NEVER FAMILY!”
“i’m going home.”
“remus please. listen to me.”
remus stopped, his hand hovering centimetres above the door handle.
“i don’t know how it happened, okay? she was coming at me and i only grabbed the knife to defend mys-”
“BULLSHIT!”
remus turned suddenly, taking long strides towards the smaller man.
“I SAW YOU. SHE DIDN’T GIVE YOU WHAT YOU WANTED AND YOU KILLED HER. SHE WASN’T EVEN ARMED.”
“YOU KNOW FULL-WELL SHE WAS REACHING FOR HER WAND.”
“YOU COULD’VE SHOWN SOME MERCY.”
sirius let out a loud laugh that continued to ring in remus’ ears long after he’d finished.
“when did she ever do that for me?”
remus ran a frustrated hand through his hair, glaring at the man whose cousin’s blood was drying on the pale face before him. when sirius spoke again, his voice was low.
“she would never have done the same.”
“i’m going home.”
“no.”
sirius stepped forward, pausing in line with the knife. the blood was soaking into the carpet, seeping in, slowly making its way towards remus’ feet.
“well i’m not fucking staying here.”
‘with you’ he added in his head.
sirius looked up at him, a small smile at his lips as though he knew exactly what remus’ was thinking. remus breathed out shakily and left.
sirius stood in the dark hall, hearing the sound of the front door close over and over again. he picked up the broken photo frame, tears forming. he refused to release his grip on it even as the glass shards pierced his skin, his own blood joining the the small puddle already on the floor.
back out on the empty street, remus looked down at his hands. flecks of blood were still visible and he couldn’t help but think to himself that his finger looked naked.
he shook his head violently, ridding his brain of any and all thoughts of sirius and what could’ve been.
