god the writing in KG is just impeccable and it does NOT get the credit it deserves because i can put any two characters from the main 5 together in a pair and they'll have some interesting contrasts and points in common that they don't have with the others
#txt#dororo and kururu#dororo and giroro#dororo and tamama#were the three i was rotating in my brain#dororo n kururu: the two most left behind. arguably the smartest so they get along. one's order/calm the other chaos. both very observant.#also selfless vs selfish#dororo n giroro: ive already said but. peace vs invasion. earth vs keron. anger vs sadness. expresses emotions vs represses them. both loyal#and faithful. both dedicated to their cause. also childhood friends#additionally. the way they feel about keroro is a foil. dororo looks up to him but a tiny part of him resents him. giroro is always -#shit talking him but actually deeply respects him#dororo and tamama: similarly. they are very much foils esp about keroro. ive mentioned this previously. present tamama is like past dororo#with being rich and looking up to keroro. they're both very emotional and they both crave keroro's undivided attention#but tamama stands up for himself and is very loud and secure whereas dororo is insecure and doubts himself#ok I'll try to do more pairings (/p) mm#keroro and kururu well theyre constantly paired bc of how much they have in common. scheming and selfish. secret keron stuff.#plus keroro literally runs to him to ask for help when natsumi beats him or like IN GENERAL.#also again. keroro is supposed to come up with plans but struggles. kururu is supposed to be chaos oriented but he's always fixing messes#tamama and kururu is another fun one because one's perception is ''the sweet one'' and the other is ''the sinister one''#tamama may look dumb at times but hes actually bright. kururu is deeply intelligent but often gets lost in silliness#they both have a dark side#this is fun but theres many combinations for 5 members so im not gonna be here all day writing abt what they all have in common and contrast#but it's so fun to think abt bc the show is actually well written they all have lil tidbits that make their relationships (/p) unique#i didnt even get into keroro much bc god knows i could not stop talking there#this subject is worth making a whole post abt ... maybe one day#musing

The Bad Kids in my... Good Parents are Bad and Bad Parents are Good au
(I should really think of a shorter title)
Adaine "Addy" Abernant - Sweet child whose parents love her a whole lot. Being both rich and loved has made her a little naive about the world and she's very self conscious about being seen as dumb or a drag on her friends. Worse problem in her life is she's being stalked by this werewolf guy but she hasn't really told anyone about that because she wants to prove she can take care of herself.
Gorgug Thistlesprings - Was adopted by the Thistlesprings family but was seen as a pet project by all the gnomes who try to shape him into what they want and do not take kindly when he steps out of line and acts more orcish. Has been taught his rage is evil and monsterous and to always suppress it because of he doesn't no one will ever want to be around him. When he got arrested his parents took that as a sign he was a lost cause and moved back to Arborly without telling him. Currently lives with the Abernants.
Kristen Applebees - Rescued Tracker from a werewolf cult and brought her home. Parents were a little skeeved out about it and when Kristen moved on from the Helioic church to be in lesbians but of course werent going to kick out a child in need! After time getting to know Tracker and doing some reading and soul searching they have grown to accept Kristen for who she is and encourages her on her faith journey.
Fig (just Fig) - When her horns grew in Gilear instantly disowned her, packed his bags, and moved to Fallinel. Sandra Lynn insisted that everything would be fine and things could go back to normal if Fig would just do her little disguise trick and pretend to be a wood elf all the time. Disgusted, Fig ran away from home and started couch surfing with her friends until the Abernants offered her a semi permanent place to stay. Learned that her birth dad low-key wants to kill her so she can join him permanently in hell and is... Dealing with that news.
Fabian Aramais Seacaster - When Bill Seacaster said he was going to retire pirating to raise Fabian in Solace his entire crew said "yeah same". Seacaster Manor is chalk full of pirates from all walks of life dedicated to giving this boy the best childhood possible. This taught Fabian to always be a team player and think of how to best work and direct a group. He knows that friends are family. (A few of them are there undercover to try and sabotage Bill's legacy).
Riz Gukgak - Has been trained to be a spy since he was a boy. Pok wants his son to follow just in his footsteps and that means always on the hunt for the next mystery, never getting close to anyone, finding and keeping secrets. Sklonda also teaches him how to be a cop, shoot first ask questions later, be tough and never take disrespect from anyone. Very guarded and independent but his godmother tries to interject now and again with some actual good parenting advice.

The author additionally describes her powerful and unshakeable confidence in God as well as Jesus, a faith that her son constantly tested. He defines his challenging connection with his tough-loving mother, who left her very own poverty-ridden youth as a result of her decision to live life on her own – typically rule-breaking – terms, a mindset that she seems to have handed down to her son. The first part of guide focuses on the writer’s youth. Each chapter is prefaced with discourse (presented in strong font) that in many cases uses social or historic background (that is: discourse on the background and causes of apartheid in South Africa), but in many cases gives family or individual history to the chapter that follows. The book, subtitled “Stories from a South African Youth,” is a collection of the author’s recollections of his youth and also youth maturing in apartheid-era South Africa.

I'm reading too many fanfics and today I want something more cute than romantic, so I would like Stella with an S/o to be her personal butler who took care of her during her childhood and adolescence (bonus if S/o used to sing to Stella when she was a kid) . obviously the S / o must have a great preparation to be worthy of taking care of the daughter of the parents who were certainly one of the causes of Stella to be like this
Stella's personal Servant and S/O
Tumblr media
You had spent years in preparation for when you would meet your mistress.
It was a common practice amongst the nobility.
You take a child from a lower house, train and raising them to become the personal servant to a child from a higher noble family.
You were of lower stock, your family heavily reliant on Stella's family, and being the youngest of your line, you found yourself chosen to be her servant.
Although the agreement basically surrendered one of there own to a life of servitude, it also brought prestige to there household, while also placing one of there own at the right hand of the next head of a powerful household.
Despite your years of training, you were still increadibly nervous upon meeting her, terrified you'd do something wrong and screw it up.
But much to your surprise, she wasn't some terrifying ice queen who could vapourise you with a glare.
She was just a girl. A young, normal looking noble girl. Seemingly not much older than you.
Your meeting was somewhat awkward, you being unsure how you should interact with her outside of the cold formalities you were taught.
Your relationship was an unusual one.
As while, yes you were her servant, you were also expected to be her closest allie and truest friend.
You were expected to take on every burden she had, to carry and guard them to the death.
A concept that hadn't fully registered in your young mind yet, but despite your age, you quickly acclimated to your new responsibilities.
You had, of course, been give training for your new duty, but much of it was learnt in the field.
You found yourself working into a schedule; wake up before her, get clean, have breakfast before waking her up at 7:30 sharp.
From there you would help her dress, something you were quite flustered about the first time around. Then you accompanied her to breakfast, then to her first lesson of the day.
You were often dismissed during her lessons, returning to her room to tidy up, or have her clothes cleaned.
It took time but eventually you were just as capable at cleaning and serving as any veteran servant of the household.
Now, initially Stella was quite... cold towards you. Treating you not much better than any other servant of the home.
But she did eventually warm to you, starting the night you heard her having a nightmare.
Much to her annoyance you had been moved into the room besides her, giving her 24 hour access to you, and you to her.
So you were easily capable of hearing her toss and turn in bed, her whimpers getting louder and louder. Until she awoke, with a scream.
You instantly shot into action, sliding into her room and pulled her into your embrace.
Holding her to your chest, you did your best to sooth her. Barely being a boy yourself you were quite inexperience with such things.
So you did the only thing you could, you sang to her.
You sung her the song your wet nurse used to sing you when you had a bad dream. Holding her for what felt like hours, gently singing to her until she fell back to sleep.
The next morning she insisted you call her Stella, unlike before when she demand the customary 'Lady' or 'Mistress'.
Not long after that she began addressing you by name. The two of you seeming to enter a level of mutual respect.
Similar events would happen several more times during your youth, each time you sang her the same song, holding her close and soothing her.
You brought up the nightmares to her parents, the two seemingly didn't care. Her parents just coldlt telling you 'They were something she needed to get over herself.'
And her parents weren't the warmest family, both her parents seemed obsessed with there appearances, placing politics over the well bing of there own daughter.
So you made her well-being your top priority, always asking if she was OK or if she wanted to talk.
In preparation for you new duties you had already received extensive training in everything from cleaning to first aid.
But as the the two of you grew, you began getting lessons in far more hands on fields.
As you were expected to be her faithful guardian. You were trained in various forms of combat, with everything from knives, to assault rifles.
Followed by several specialised first aid courses, each one dedicated to a different field of medicine.
You excelled through each course, taking the role as both servant and protector as your own.
Despite being younger then your charge, your mentality quickly matured beyond your years, willing and prepared to fight to the death for your charge.
You fully embraced you postion, putting aside everything you were and giving yourself to your new role, absolutely.
As the two of you grew older, you also grew closer and closer. And due to your special status as her personal servant, having less limitations put on you then a regular servant of the house, you could act as more of a friend to the girl. Acting as a trusted confidant for the girls troubles.
As you matured your skills, both physically and mentally, you learned to better dedicat your new skills to what would most efficiently aid your liege.
While you excelled in your training dedicating your self to the task before you, the main problem you faced was, Stella.
It may seem petty, but Stella being of a higher and more powerful cast meant she grew to tower over you by at least a foot.
Something she was sure to rub in your face.
And it may not seem like that big of a deal, but protecting someone much taller then you, was a constant struggle. As they were far more visible then yourself and could be targeted from angles you weren't able to see.
But you did your absolute best, going above and beyond as her steadfast companion, hapily waiting on her hand a foot.
It seemed like a blink if an eye and the beautiful young lady you once served had grown into a beautiful young woman.
And much to your shame, over the years spent together, you had developed a deep affection for her, an affection that went far beyond friendship.
Of course you would never publicly admit such a thing, your years of training alloweing you to keep such your feelings suppressed. Only allowing your affection to show through in what would be expected of a typical platonic relationship.
When Stella came to the age of 17, her parents decided to send her to an academy famous for its education of young noble women.
The problem was, it was an all girls academy. And you being her private servant, and right hand, the two of you could not be sepperated for such a long period of time.
It took a fair bit of political manoeuvring and more then a few favours to get you in, but by the end of it, you found yourself enrolled right besides her.
You were to attend every class as well as share quarters with Stella. You were not to leave her side unless absolutely necessary.
You were far from the only servant to accompany there mistress.
You found a variety of them, from Imps to hellhounds. You even saw a few succubus amongst them.
But the thing that really stood out, was that you were the only male, even amongst the staff.
Initially life at the academy went fantastic.
Stella, with her confident nature and families status thrived at the academy, easily rising the social ranks, making friends and allies.
The whole thing bringing a great sense of warmth to your black heart.
You stood back and proudly watched as she excelled amongst her peers, only having to step in to aid her in her day to day.
But unfortunately, problems did arise. And much to your shame, they were spawned from you.
Now, you had already received a fair amount of attention from the Student; Stares, love letters, lustful gazes. But you were there for Stella, the affects of there attention quickly dissipated as you focused on Stella.
Now you being a fairly attractive young man, in exceptional shape from years of work and being the only male in a school of a few hundred young hormonal women.
But initially, being Stella's servant stopped anyone from pursuing you, as relations with someone below them was punished severely by both the school and there families.
Unfortunately the question of who you were was quickly raised, Stella without much concern or thought, told them all about your special status as both a noble and a servant.
And that's were the problems really began.
You see, sleeping with another family's servant, was an excellent way to get yourself disowned by your family.
But a fling with a servant, whom was also a fellow noble... that could be tolerated.
You were greatly surprised to find just how tolerant the school was of such behaviour.
It would seem that despite there rather strict policy on student/Staff relations, that being pubished severely.
But the school was unwilling to take serious action against noble children for have relations amongst themselves.
It seemed they allowed the students to let out there rebellious phase in small ways, perhaps a method to help make them into proper nobles.
Needless to say, you had never been so happy you were Stella's servant.
You'd heard how some of them talked about you, and if Stella wasn't your mistress, your quite certain you'd be used as a tool for political gain, regardless how you felt about it.
Ironically, you found Stella becoming far more possessive of you, especially whenever someone began to show interest in you.
Now she had always been possessive of you to a degree, snapping at anyone who dared to treat you poorly or acted like you were supposed to serve them, something that happened quite often amongst nobility.
You liked to think it was her way of marking her territory, all the while showing you that she had your back. And with all the attention you were getting, it only made sense for her to be a bit more possessive.
Adding to your growing shame, seeing Stella becoming such a strong, confident woman had only strengthened your feelings for her.
In your mind, you had kept your feeling for Stella perfectly hidden. Only allowing your affection to show, through your friendly and platonic behaviour.
Apparently you were wrong.
Parties were surprisingly common on the school grounds, with a major party seemingly occurring at least once a month.
Stella being ever the socialite, was of course invited. The young lady flirtaciously telling you were invited as well. Following her to the party, you found a small herd of teens sipping wine from plastic cups, talking amongst themselves.
Playing nobility.
It was fun for the most part.
Everyone was dancing and drinking. And much to your surprise Stella was quite lax when it came to alcohol, drinking more than her fair share.
A little tipsy, she found you, demanding you dance with her.
Now you, on the other hand, did not party. You did not drink, you did not fraternise and you most certainly didn't dance.
You were her guardian, you were supposed to watch over her, not get drunk with her in some random dormroom.
But Stella ordered you, not having the will to refuse her, you complied.
You danced and drank and partied. And for the first time in your life, you let yourself he a teenager.
And you enjoyed it. You enjoyed being with Stella.
The mood quickly soured when, as Stella left to get a drink, some random girl grabbed you by the collar and rather aggressively tried to kiss you.
You were able to hold her back of course, even inebriated you were still strong enough to hold back a drunk teenage girl.
You were freaking out, unable to think of what to do, only for Stella to appear and violently rip her off you, beating the crap out of the her right there infront of all the other party goers.
She screamed at the girl, telling her to never touch what belonged to her again. Before without saying a word, grabbing your hand and dragging you out of the party.
She dragged you into a nearby allyway, ranting and raving about how dare someone touch you, you belonged to her and she was sick of having to remind people.
Her words becoming progressively more possessive, you just half drunkenly stumbling your much taller mistress.
Raising the question of her increasingly possessive language, you saw her entire body shift.
Walking up to you, she pressed her body up against yours, effortlessly pinning you to the wall.
It was pointless to struggle, as even with all your training she was still stronger.
With eyes you had never seen before, she stared into your own and asked if you liked her.
You were both shocked and terrified, you were so sure you had been careful.
You sputtered something out, trying to hide your feelings before she cut you off with a passionate kiss.
She held you close as she told you all about how she knew you liked her, about how she knew you always held yourself back.
But she understood why.
You were left stunned when she told you the reason she knew why, was because she'd been doing the same. She confessed she had fallen for you, but like you, she had kept her feeling secret because such a relationshi wouldn't be "proper"!
But she didn't care anymore.
She was sick of keeping her feelings for you a secret, sick of watching other women get to speak and act freely while she was forced to hold her tongue.
She wanted you and she was going to have you, no matter what anyone thought.
She dragged you back to your dormroom, although it was more like a small apartment before dragging you to her bed.
Sitting above you she asked if you wanted this, unable to think of the right words you just gave her another passionate kiss.
The two of you spent the night together.
Your relationship was kept a secret for the rest of her time in the academy. The two of you agreeing it would be best and with Your position already giving you the best possible excuse to be close together.
Once you both graduated, Stella's parents tried to have an arranged marriage set up for her, hoping to achieve greater prestige for the family.
But much to your surprise, she blatantly refused.
Instead she using her new-found political connections and usurped her parents, taking the family name and the role of head of household as her own.
Her first act, openly declaring your relationship.
You were deeply relieved the outcry was very minimal, contained to only a few already outspoke critics that apposing her anyways.
And so you stood by her ever since. As bother her loyal protector and faithful lover.
Hey hey, this one was a challenge, but I still enjoyed it. If any of you have a request or want to submit a prompt, go right ahead. Check out my master list for what I won't write and go for it. Thank you all for reading.

Super-Rockin’ Wedding of the Century
AYO! Day 2 of MGI Trope Tussle! Team Enemies-to-Lovers for the win. I bring you another oneshot. but this time i used 3 prompts like a dumbass.
Fics Masterlist
Daminette Oneshot 4.3K words (no warnings except slight cursing)
Summary:
“Marinette is invited to the Super-Rockin' Wedding of the Century and she needs a date. Alya is both her best and worst wingman.”
Day 2 of MGI Trope Tussle, I used 3 prompts to make this thing: 1. "You don't have to like me, you just need to pretend you do." 2. "I like your costume. You look very cute." "Are you making fun of me?" 3. 'Write about a very unusual wedding proposal.' this is the culmination of all my efforts.
without further ado:
It was the biggest news on the internet. Global sensation, international rockstar, Jagged Stone, was officially engaged to childhood friend turned manager, Penny Rolling. Memes and fan theories stormed every corner of the web. Trending topics including #rockstar_wedding and #RollingStone permeated every social media platform. Guest lists were speculated, dress designers were tagged in every post that even mentioned the words ‘wedding’ or ‘bride’. It was total mayhem but none felt it worse than up-and-coming Parisian designer, M. D. Cheng, privately known as Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
The young adult was up to her neck in design templates, and was drowning in half-baked ideas and sketches. While the internet has only heard about the proposal for a solid two weeks at this point, Marinette was in the know for six months. Jagged Stone had contacted her in advance because he needed her help with the proposal itself.
And what a proposal it was.
Jagged had outlined his idea in simple terms but it was still so mind-boggling that Marinette needed him to draw some visual aids to completely convey his idea. Initially it sounded simple enough but the more the man spoke, the more Marinette felt her brain fry at the mental picture. It first involved recreating a scene from Penny’s favourite movie. Which sounded rather romantic, if you ignored the fact that her favourite movie was Bride of Chucky. Then it involved Jagged dressed as the Tinman from Wizard of Oz. Oh, and the proposal had to happen on Halloween because that was the anniversary of their first date apparently, and based on everything else this plan entailed it might as well have been. Marinette’s role in all of this was to simply re-make the white wedding dress Chucky’s bride, Tiffany, wore because Penny already had the leather jacket to match. Of course she did. She didn’t even want to know how Jagged acquired the Tinman suit. Not her barrel of monkeys.
While many thought Jagged was the eccentric one of the pair, due to his loud personality and being an actual rockstar, the more Marinette worked for the two of them over the years, the more she learned how absolutely wrong they all were. It turned out it was Penny’s idea for Jagged to dye his hair purple, and she was the one to ask him out on Halloween all those faithful years ago. Her calm and collected demeanor was an impressive cover for the absolute weirdo she actually was. And Jagged had planned a proposal that was undoubtedly perfect for her. Regardless of how abso-fucking-lutely bizarre it was.
To each their own and let’s move on.
The set-up for the proposal started with Jagged, dressed as the Tinman, playing the part of Chucky, who begins the body-switching chant from the movie. Everything from that point on was resting on Penny’s love for the movie. Without hesitating, Penny, dressed as Tiffany, and playing her part, knew the lines by heart and immediately began reenacting the scene with Jagged. Her lines involved telling ‘Chucky’ to kiss her while she reaches for a knife that’s supposed to be in his pocket. Instead, as Jagged was still dressed as the Tinman, Penny pulled out a slip of paper. On said paper, the words ‘All the Tinman wanted was a heart’ were written in Jagged’s almost illegible chicken scratch. When Penny was distracted with the piece of paper, Jagged had gotten down on one knee and pulled out the engagement ring. The actual words of his proposal were never actually said because, upon seeing the ring, Penny flung herself into the man, clipping her chin into his metal-plated shoulder, but she wasn’t complaining.
So that was how the proposal went.
Wedding planning started almost immediately since the newly engaged had already picked a theme. And this is where Marinette began to regret every life choice she has made since she was thirteen; starting with opening the mysterious box she found on her desk and ending with agreeing to being the main designer for the Rockin’ Wedding of the Century. One thing that wasn’t well-known but not a secret about Jagged was that he was a superhero fan. He grew up enjoying the fictional ones in his childhood comic books and he adored the real ones he witnessed in his adult life. His song that he dedicated to the teenage Ladybug was only one part of his… appreciation. His hero-worship went so far as to beieve that a hero-themed wedding was appropriate. Or he didn’t, but also didn’t care about adhering to societal propriety and went with that theme anyways. So the Rockin’ Wedding of the Century was now the Super-Rockin’ Wedding of the Century. And twenty-three year old Marinette was incharge of the entire wedding party’s outfits.
Perfect.
As a small mercy from some god, both the bride and groom to-be had a rather short list of people in their parties. Marinette was also able to design appropriate hero-themed outfits for all of them and scheduled them for fittings in the coming weeks. That, surprisingly, was the easy part as there were plenty of heroes to draw inspiration from. However, that wasn’t the cause of her current crisis right now.
No. Marinette was up to her neck in unnecessary designs and ideas because she’s been avoiding one particular contingency in her acceptance of the wedding invitation.
She needed a date.
She needed a date because she had promised Penny that she wasn’t overworking herself and to prove it, she would bring a date to the wedding. Rather than call any of the people who expressed interest in her at some point in time, she designated herself to wallow in her situation and distract herself with designs. In the midst of her one person pity party, her phone rang under the sea of ripped out pages. She scoured for the device and hastily answered before she could accidently send the caller to voicemail.
“Hello?” She didn’t check the caller ID and was delighted at the sound of her best friend answering her.
“Marinette! How’s it going over there?” Alya’s voice was mixed in with the busy street life of Metropolis. She had moved there immediately after high school, snatching an internship with the Daily Planet and attending the local community college. She and Marinette don’t call often due to time differences, but when they do it’s like they’ve never parted. She always looked forward to her calls.
“It’s going great, Als,” if she ignored her current dilemma, then yeah, everything was perfect. “But you wouldn’t happen to have an available bachelor willing to be my date to the ‘Super-Rockin’ Wedding of the Century’ in your back pocket, would you?”
Alya’s answering laugh was both comforting and teasing and Marinette felt herself missing her even more. What she said next, however, took Marinette by surprise.
“Actually I do.”
“Pardon?”
“Well,” she took a pause to build suspense. “I know a guy who knows a guy. But it’s nothing shady, I swear.”
“That’s not comforting.” Oh god. What has she unintentionally signed herself up for?
“You know my coworker, Jon? The guy who does the photography for all my field work?” Alya had met Jon as soon as she had started her internship. Both of his parents were top journalists at the Daily Planet so he volunteered to act as tour guide for all the new interns. He and Alya, from the exasperated stories Marinette has heard from Nino, got along like a house on fire. If he was involved, Marinette was starting to doubt even further that this was going to end well for her.
“Yes, I know Jon. How is he by the way?”
“He’s fine, but I remember him telling me how he tried to set up his best friend on several dates over the years and how they all ended poorly. He’s as approachable as a brick wall; not just a prick but the whole damn cactus. Or so Jon says.” How does that sound like someone Marinette wanted to bring along with her to the wedding? “But he’s totally your type so I could ask Jon to wrap him up in bubblewrap and send him your way whenever you want.”
“How,” and Marinette said this with a lot of feeling, “is he my type exactly?”
“Green eyes with daddy issues.”
“ALYA!” Marinette was absolutely floored at her bluntness. She wasn’t even sorry about shouting into the receiver.
“Am I wrong? You have a type and he fits that type. Jon mentioned how this guy and his dad hit several roadblocks when they first met. And I’ve seen pictures of him so ‘green eyes’ checks too.”
“That is not my type of guy.” She can’t believe this was how this conversation was going.
“Adrien.”
“I didn’t even know who his father was at the time, Alya.”
“Felix.”
“His dad is dead! That doesn’t count as ‘daddy issues.’” She can feel her cheeks flaming as the call went on. Any hotter and she was going to set her sketchbooks on fire. “Besides, I dated Luka so he doesn’t fit the criteria.”
“He’s an outlier and that’s only because his eyes are blue.” Okay, fine she had a type. “And besides, you don’t even have to date the guy. You only need him to accompany you to the wedding and you both go your separate ways after. No harm, no foul.”
Right. That was true. No strings attached. She could do that.
“I can’t believe I’m saying this but,” she held her breath and let it out loudly, ignoring Alya’s chuckle at her dramatics.” Give Jon my number to give this guy. And send his number to me.”
“Wahoo! Look at you, girl,” Alya was hooting and hollering over the speaker and Marinette found herself going along with the theatrics. “Okay, I will. But I gotta go, my cab is here. Bye!”
“Bye! Stay safe. Oh before you go, what’s Jon’s friend’s name anyways?”
“Uh, Damian, I think.” The call ended before Marinette could respond, but it was okay she mused. Tossing her phone onto her couch, she flopped down onto her floor and stared at her ceiling contemplatively.
What could go wrong?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Alya had described this Damian guy as ‘not just a prick but the whole damn cactus,’ she was right. Marinette had been texting back and forth with Damian for a month, and the guy was making this idea seem less and less worth it by the day. Whenever Marinette tried to learn more about the guy, he would ghost her for days on end before replying with a half-assed response at best. She knew nothing about him other than that his first name was Damian and that he was from Gotham. She had no idea how the ball of life that was Jon was even friends with someone like Damian. She asked as much to Alya in their most recent call.
“How did they even meet?” She was pacing the floor plan of her apartment, ready to tear her hair out. “Did Damian bully him in school or something?”
“Apparently their dads knew each other and introduced them,” Alya sounded half awake, stifling a yawn; probably because Marinette had called her at 1 am, Metropolis’s time. “Their brothers being friends also forced them to get along.”
“And that’s another thing!” Marinette had paused in her pacing and was now staring intently at a potted plant in the corner of her living room. Any more rage in her glare and the plant would have wilted and died. “He doesn’t tell me anything about him. I don’t need to know all his personal information, but if he’s going to be flying out to Paris on my behalf, I think I at least deserve to know his last name.”
“Hey, M,” another yawn echoed through the speaker, “I love you, truly, but maybe this could wait for holier day time hours?”
“I guess,” a vindictive part of Marinette felt like this was payback for all those inopportune calls when Marinette was busy with clients. “Sorry for interrupting your sleep.”
“It’s no big deal. But have you tried talking to him about it? If he’s ghosting your texts, try calling him. If he ignores you then too then maybe you should try finding another person to be your plus one.”
“The wedding is in two weeks, Alya!” Marinette partially regrets waiting so long to vent her frustration about the situation but she had tried to tough it out. “I would have much preferred if you were my plus one. You sure there’s no way to convince your parents to skip out on the family trip?”
“Sorry, M. Once the news about the proposal hit the internet, I tried everything. I even tried to use work, saying that I could cover the ceremony for the newspaper. My folks won’t budge though. My dad’s aunt is important to him and he wants us all at the funeral.”
“Right, right, I forgot about that.” Now she felt like an ass. “Send you dad my condolences when you see him again.”
“Will do. Good morning, Marinette. And don’t worry too much about the guy. Everything will turn up great. I can feel it.”
“Thanks, Alya. Good night, get some sleep.”
The line went dead and Marinette let out a rather weary exhale. She had no idea how this was going to work. She pulled up her contacts and searched for what she had Damian saved as.
‘Douche’ flashed on her screen and she hit the call button without remorse. She didn’t care that it was also currently 1 am in Gotham. He didn’t deserve that much consideration from her.
“What?” His voice was gravely and deep. And also really pissed if his clipped tone was anything to go by.
“Damian? Hi, this is Marinette, the girl you’re accompanying to the wedding in two weeks?” Her voice was pitched as if she was dealing with an irritating customer. Fake and polite.
“I know who you are. Why are you calling me at this unreasonable hour?” Fair, but Marinette was still aggravated at him so she wouldn’t concede.
“I’m calling because we need to talk.” She heard him scoff over the line and she felt her blood boil even hotter. She took several calming breaths to reign her temper in. “Don’t hang up.”
“Look,” She didn’t give him a chance to refuse and kept talking, getting everything off her chest. “This wedding is important to me and I promised the bride I would bring a date. After that you can delete my number and we never have to speak to each other ever. You don’t have to like me, you just need to pretend you do.”
“Whatever,” he sounded less annoyed from when he first answered the phone. “I will act as cordial as the situation requires, and nothing more. I also have my attire secured for the wedding and accommodations in Paris already prepared. I will see you at the wedding.”
“Than—” The sound of the call ending interrupted her and her frustration was back tenfold. With a cry in anguish she flung her phone onto her couch and stomped into her kitchen to channel her rage into baking.
Three loaves of bread and a dozen eclairs later, Marinette felt calm enough to finish the final touches on her outfit for the wedding.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was the day of the Super-Rockin’ Wedding of the Century. The Rolling-Stone’s, as they were asking to be called, had kept the ceremony small. Relatively. Only two hundred invited guests, few of which were asked to bring a plus one. Marinette was over the moon at the array of outfits people were sporting. Some chose full-on cosplay while others, like herself, went for more subtle nods to the heroes. In honour of a previous Ladybug, Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, Marinette based her outfit off of Wonder Woman’s uniform, Hippolyta’s daughter. A navy blue sequined halter top bodice that flows into a blood red A-line skirt. She paired it with a thick silver belt, silver gladiator heels rather than boots and broad silver arm cuffs. It was simple but effective. Besides, all attention should be on the bride and groom today.
A tap on her shoulder caught her attention and she turned only to come face first with red with black spots. Ladybug. Someone chose her as inspiration. How flattering. Looking up to see who was wearing the Ladybug-themed suit jacket, she stared at a pair of deep forest green eyes and a sneer to ruin that ridiculously handsome face. She recognized him from the photo Alya had sent some time ago. Damian.
“Hi, Damian,” at least one of them had to be civil and Marinette knew it was going to be her. But the idea that of all the heroes for him to choose from he chose her sent her into poorly stifled fits of giggling. Images of him going ‘Lucky Charm’ and ‘Miraculous Ladybug’ were almost too much to bear.
“I don’t know what’s so amusing about my choice of attire,” his face was starting to flush in similar shades to his jacket and that made Marinette laugh harder. “Ladybug is a well respected heroine and I thought it appropriate to pay homage while in her home city.”
“No. No no. There is nothing wrong with it. I like your costume, you look very cute.”
“Are you making fun of me?” His irritation was rather cathartic for the still giggling woman.
“No, I just didn’t think you would have put that much thought into your outfit for today. You always gave me the impression that you were ready to back out at any time.”
“I made a commitment and I had all intentions to see it through the end.”
“Could have fooled me.” And her snark was back. Now was not the time to pick a fight with the guy, he did fly all the way to Paris on her behalf after all.
“I’ve been meaning to ask,” and Marinette wanted to know how he managed to sound so condescending with that statement. “How did you even get an invitation to this wedding anyways? You’re not a celebrity and you don’t look like family either.”
“Actually,” she said it with more force than what was probably necessary but his slightly accusatory tone was just so irritating. “I am the lead designer for the wedding party,” her chest was swimming with confidence at the chance to talk about her job. “I’ve worked with the bride and groom for years; M. D. Cheng, Marinette Dupain-Cheng.”
Marinette will deny to her grave the rush of satisfaction at the absolute gobsmacked look on Damian’s face. A real fish out of water. Mouth open wide ready to catch flies. She wished she could capture this moment forever.
The moment was over too soon because Damian was regaining his composure and slipping into his default stoic expression. He cleared his throat and fixed a look at Marinette. It was rather intense.
“I believe I owe you an apology then.” He looked put-out at admitting something so menial. “I believed you were nothing more than a socialite chain climber.”
“A what?”
“When Jon reached out to me saying that a friend of one of his coworkers needed a date for an event, and when that event turned out to be the wedding of someone of such popularity, I figured you were only trying to increase your own social status by showing up with me on your arm.”
“And you said ‘yes’ anyways?” Marinette was confused but pieces of the mystery that is Damian were starting to fit in place. But something else stuck out as odd to her. “Also, how would you being my date increase my social status anyhow?”
He scoffs before answering. Bitch.
“What? It wouldn’t be the first time one of Jon’s set-ups ended that way. Besides, we’ve had an agreement that I can’t turn down an offer until meeting the person face to face.” Weird deal but some friendships are just like, Marinette supposes. “And being seen with me is enough to make anyone more popular.”
“...And you are?”
“Damian… Wayne…” He spoke as if he was talking to a small child. As if it should be obvious who he was like he was some celeb— Oh shit.
A name had flashed into her mind. On the finalised guest list, Marinette had only seen it once in passing, there was a name that belonged to someone Jagged was rather excited to see. He said the friend was an old college buddy. She remembered that much. She had completely forgotten that ‘a billionaire playboy’ was also attached to the name. Damian was the son of Bruce Wayne. Suddenly everything in the past few months made perfect sense. The cold shoulder, the ghosting, and his prickly disposition. He was overly guarded because he had justified reasons to be. Now she felt like an ass.
“Oh.” Real intelligent, Marinette.
“Oh? What, you didn’t know?” He sounded incredulous at the notion and he had every right to be. Marinette could only shake her head. Words were failing her now, her brain trying to rewrite the memories of every interaction the two ever had.
She was saved from further mortification by a call for everyone to find their seats. The wedding was about to begin.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The ceremony was beautiful. Penny’s dress was a silver grey, tied back with a golden belt. Instead of a long train, Marinette had attached a black cape that shimmered in the right lighting. Penny wore a tiara with two peaks to imitate the ‘bat-ears.’ A Batman-themed wedding dress was not something she ever saw herself making, but she was proud at how beautiful and confident Penny looked in it. Jagged was adorn in a royal blue suit with bold red lapels. He also had a matching red cape. His hair was styled in the familiar sleek way Superman wears it. The two made quite the pair.
The reception was a lively affair. Jagged had dedicated several songs to his new wife and they dazzled the crowd on the dance floor. Marinette didn’t pay much attention to the speeches beyond a quick glance at Damian when his own father stepped up to the podium. He had buried his head in his hands, looking like he wanted the floor to swallow him whole. A courtesy pat on the back was all Marinette gave to him.
The two hadn’t really spoken much since the revelation that they had completely misjudged each other. The awkward tension was almost palpable. As Marinette was gathering the courage to speak to him, to try and officially clear the air, she was being dragged by one of the bridesmaids onto the dancefloor. It was time for the bride to throw the bouquet. All the unmarried women were being corralled into a tight cluster and Marinette got swept up in the tide.
Marinette wasn’t focusing on the actual game, trying her hardest not to get trampled, when she saw something move in her periphery. Years of being Ladybug had left her with finely honed instincts so she could not be blamed when she immediately jumped and caught the incoming object. The bouquet. She had caught the bouquet. Oh that was just her luck. Deafening squeals of delight brought her out of her own head and she was suddenly being embraced in Penny’s arms. She returned the hug, sharing in her delight, before breaking away to sit down.
“Nice catch.” His voice had surprised her, she hadn’t expected him to speak to her for the rest of the night.
“Uh, thank you. Just lucky, I guess.” Damian didn’t get the chance to respond because he was being dragged by his own father to join all the bachelors in catching the garter. Marinette was equally uninterested in this spectacle and had let her mind wander to other things.
A loud uproar caught her attention again and her eyes zeroed in on Damian holding the tossed garter. He made his way back over to her, dropping himself into his seat gracelessly. The two sat in silence, contemplating the implications of them both catching the garter and bouquet. The games were done purely for tradition’s sake, with total disregard of what it was supposed to symbolise. Still. One’s mind couldn’t help but wander. Minutes ticked passed and Marinette was beginning to wonder if someone was going to talk about the elephant in the room.
“So,” Damian’s voice was slightly strained, like he wasn’t used to being this flustered. It was kind of endearing. Wait what?
“So.”
“While marriage seems far out of reach for right now,” Oh god. He was going to talk about it. “How does dinner sound, next Friday?”
“Wait,” he wanted to spend more time with her? After their disastrous first impressions? “Really?”
“Really. I believe we started off on the wrong foot,” he let out a soft chuckle, almost self-deprecating. “Which isn’t really new for me, but it’s not everyday I meet someone who doesn’t recognise me at first glance. I think you’re someone who I would like to get to know better. If that is something you are also interested in.”
“Yeah,” Marinette knows all about wanting to get acquainted with someone who she’s had a bad first impression of. Just look at her past relationships. Wow, she really does have a type. Damning thoughts for later. “Friday works for me. Seven pm?”
“Perfect. I’ll text you the details then.”
“Wonderful, I can’t wait.”
The rest of the evening was spent in companionable silence with small bouts of conversation in between. They shared a couple dances on the floor and parted ways at the end of the night with budding anticipation for Friday.
As Marinette was preparing for bed that night in the comfort of her apartment, she sent a text to Alya that her friend would see later in the day.
You were right, I do have a type :(
Hi Helena! Big fan of your writing here🥺♥️ Your rivamika fics are my safe space 😭 (if you have time to answer) i’d love to know when you first started shipping them, why, and what made you continue to love this ship (or anything else to do with your journey as an RM shipper)? i love your characterisation of both levi and mikasa individually, but even more so, your portrayal of their dynamic as a couple, which is why i wanted to ask so badly ☺️ x
Hey anon! Oh woah, first of all, thank you so much. Second of all, oh god, you probably shouldn't have handed me the mic. heh 😅
I’m afraid to look at the word count of this response, I’m sure it’s much more than you bargained for, but I appreciate the question and enjoyed thinking through my response (: Most importantly, I’m so glad you find my stories as a safe space. It’s really an honor. Thank you for sharing with me 🖤🖤
TL; DR As a longtime reader, writer and lover of stories and story-telling, by being someone who pays attention to how stories are crafted and deliberately developed from beginning to end, I sincerely thought Isayama was setting up rivamika as an endgame relationship. So, I read into and interpreted meaning out of ALL their interactions and became deeply invested.
I don’t necessarily ship them cause of the parallels, age gap, enemies to lover trope, height difference, or some of those common reasons and/or kinks. I’m more basic and boring than that. I love the concept of them coming together as though it’s inevitable.
They both are unbelievably strong, selfless, and have suffered so much loss— so, no one else could truly understand them as well as they can understand each other. They both probably would have always settled for a stable, simple life, and been alone and lonely even without realizing it— instead, they find each other, and realize what it means to actually no longer be alone, to do more than just survive. It’s this understated bond, as opposed to a dramatic and passionate romance, that I envision in them and that I love so much.
Then, the passion, heat, the romantic "spark"— I think that’s an added bonus, the cherry on top, the perfect final puzzle piece. They’re both so physically capable, can speak through their actions, and don’t show much need or capacity for emotional/ verbal communication, so the ability to connect with each other through physical intimacy and mind-blowing sex seems like another given.
Still, at the end of the day, for me it comes back to their ability to fully depend on each other, to the inevitability. Not like some soulmate trope where they 'have no choice' in it, but like the stars aligned to prove it's right. How each of them have only one other person on the whole planet who could see and understand them, to be on par with them, to make them realize there’s more to life than settling and surviving, and they happen to find it in each other.
You asked, I rambled 😅 Here’s a breakdown of my thought process in my rivamika journey. For those who make it to the end or want to skip to the end, I'll finish with the excerpt of the very first rivamika scene I felt compelled to to write.
I've tried before to re-watch and remember the exact scenes, exact moments, that initially captured my full attention, but I guess it was all of them, the gradual and cumulative compilation of their earliest interactions.
Mikasa always appearing cool and indifferent, and paying no attention whatsoever to others fawning over, like Jean initially falling for her, but then her strongly reacting over Levi in the courtroom showed how uniquely capable he was at getting under her skin.
Of course, the scene in the forest chasing the Female Titan was a critical one. I think of that as the first time both Levi and Mikasa were truly able to see the other's strength, mental and physical. And for them, orphans and trauma survivors who have suffered extensive loss, I think that seeing strength in another person made them feel less alone. Less alone in a deep, quiet but cataclysm, life-altering sort of way, even if not a romantic one. Like they didn't know it was something they didn't have, something they didn't expect to get from life, but then found it with each other.
(Even when we found out Levi was an Ackerman, I was disappointed if it meant they were immediate relatives, but willing to accept it wouldn't be a romantic end to loneliness, it would be a familial end to loneliness. But... the author never explored that. Not once.)
In that forest scene, manga and anime, the way that Levi pauses to really look and see Mikasa and think about who she is, what she’s gone through, and how strong and dedicated she is now— that was a defining moment. It was also a visual demonstration of Levi breaking character, from aloof and ruthless, to considering and curious. I thought Yams was showing both of them do that on purpose.
Then, Levi getting hurt because of Mikasa in that scene felt like another clue. Sure, it was while saving Eren, and sure, it could have been meant to humanize super-soldier Levi, or sure, it could have been another aspect of how Mikasa rushing into things over Eren ends up hurting other people that later changes in her character development, but it felt like a very pointed statement about Mikasa being a vulnerability for Levi. And that's swoon-worthy, right? Most of us have been exposed to and conditioned by stories about how special and romantic it is to be the one and only girl who can make an otherwise disinterested or unattainable guy actually pay attention to her, and so admittedly I fall right for it.
I’m sure I’m forgetting plenty, but the opening of season 3 felt like confirmation. When Levi figures out Kenny's behind things and entrusts Mikasa with instructions to share with the others, instructions about fighting people instead of titans that ultimately everyone else besides her struggles with, and when Mikasa lets Levi hold her back from chasing after Eren, her most important way of trusting and having faith in Levi, I honestly took that as cues from the author that rivamika was endgame. I let myself get truly invested from then on. That’s that understated bond I was referring to. To me, that unspoken but undeniable trust is the most important dynamic.
Seeing them fight together or fight similarly has always been fun and powerful and fulfilling.
I'm newer to the snk club. I was originally an anime-only fan and started watching in fall 2019, I think. I wasn't on tumblr, twitter, or anything else to see fandom discourse. So, I didn't know that the rooftop scene of Mikasa fighting Levi over the serum was such a staple for our ship until much later. I love the scene just like many do for all the reasons we do, but I don't think the actual scene was pivotal for me, so much as it's aftermath. I thought it represented two things.
One, it was an important marker in Levi's characterization. Hands-down one of the most striking scenes to me is the one where Levi is in the alley, somber and alone, listening in on Eren, Armin, and Mikasa talking together. It artfully shows his longing for hope and connection. So, when Levi chose Armin for the serum, that represented Levi choosing hope. And when Mikasa ultimately gave up fighting Levi and didn't choose Armin, which Armin finds out about later on, I see that as an important marker in Mikasa's development. It puts a wedge between her and Armin/Eren [Armin, because he knows she would have let him die, and Eren, because Armin is too special to him and he couldn't look at her the same way after realizing she would have let him die]. That distance between her and her childhood friends is one I don't think could ever be healed completely, one of those painful lessons in growing up. By doing that, it then also puts a distance in Mikasa's own childhood self to her current self. I thought that matured her and separated her out in a way that was another clue toward eventual rivamika developments.
That's a whole other conversation on Mikasa, but I’ll stay on track. Her love for Armin was absolutely authentic and fierce, but at the end of the day, at the core of her being, she chose survival over hope. Meanwhile, Levi chose hope over survival. To me, that was soft, fertile ground for the reasons why eventually, if/when Mikasa found hope and chose hope, that could directly tie together with her inevitably in coming together with Levi. Again, less butterflies and fireworks, but more natural and in a way that was just a given.
I wrote Beyond the Walls before reading the manga from the Marley Arc and on, so that's why most of that story is her journey into embracing that hope. *manga spoilers* There's a lot of meta, criticism and talk about Mikasa's silent, off-screen and subtle style of character development in the Marley Arc and afterward. I won't go down that road, I'm still processing the end of the manga to be honest, but I think it's fair to say she does eventually end up choosing hope over survival when she lets go of Eren and saves humanity instead. I love the “Stay with Me” line and think it’s perfect; a simple but profound display of trust and their deep-rooted bond in a really understated way. *end manga spoilers*
Here's something I always wanted to talk about in full but haven't. It honestly reads to me like Yams was building toward rivamika, and didn’t do anything to stop that until too late. There are tools authors can use to ensure we stop shipping a pair or start shipping a new one; love triangles are commonly used in every artistic medium and we’ve all been persuaded by these tools. But Yams didn’t use these tools to make sure readers didn’t feel convinced by rivamika. For all the reasons I listed above, more I'm forgetting, and for the following:
If he wanted us to think they were family and it would be incest, he should have added in a conversation between them realizing they were (close) family and that they weren't the only ones left in their biological family like they thought. But he didn't.
If he wanted us to think it was completely inappropriate between a child-and-adult and student-and-teacher, then he could have done something to ensure Mikasa looked childish or Levi looked older, but no. They barely look ten years apart. I do think it's unacceptable and that there's a power imbalance between a child-and-adult relationship regardless of that, and that there can't be true consent when one is a superior and another a subordinate, so I personally age-up Mikasa in my head and try to handle his position of power responsibly in my writings... but the point being, by the end of canon, there's no inappropriate or non-consensual romance between them, yet there's a lot of history and chemistry that could naturally lead to an age-appropriate and consensual relationship. If Yams didn't want us to think so, he could have made it more clear that there were reasons it wouldn't happen.
The only thing that makes sense to me is the author planned on rivamika endgame but was shamed/pressured out of it (either internally or due to others) OR that the author somehow accidentally created such vibrant chemistry and an incredible dynamic between them. Like, he didn't put enough convincing substance of eremika in, didn't make Levi look old enough, didn’t have one of them do something unforgivable in the other’s eyes, etc. Those are some of those tools he could have used. Romance was never a key component in snk. And since we now know Yams planned or needed eremika endgame for sake of plot and the conclusion of the manga, I personally think he didn't know what to do with the riveting rivamika substance and chemistry being much more convincing to readers. Once he had them so well built-up, maybe the only option he felt he had was to just stop putting the characters together. We get little-to-no rivamika interaction, platonic or practical, after season 3 all the way up until the very end. But there was so much of it beforehand ?? So, it simply doesn't make sense. I think the author just straight-up cut any and all interactions out between them because it was too convincing and moving, more convincing and substantial than eremika. But, as the end of canon shows, we needed to have some eremika buy-in. It's messy writing and unskilled in the romance department, but considering for how long and how complicated snk has been in a creative process and how lackluster the eremika romance (the main and apparently pivotal romance) is developed, I think it’s plausible to say the author effed up.
As far as writing fanfiction goes, there's just so much room to explore them. In canon, we aren't given enough insight into their individual perspectives, let alone their dynamic together, so it feels like a blank canvas to work from. I think that's part of why I love to write them, and also why I don't necessarily read much of them. When I first started shipping them while watching the anime, I read a few of the classics that were canon-verse, but I haven’t really read much since. For me, exploring and discovering them as a writer is the most fun. (It's one of the reasons Naruto and Harry Potter have such large fanfiction collections. There's so much world-building and so many characters, but there's also so much left to the imagination.)
In general, I'm drawn to strong characters, especially women, who are multidimensional enough to be real, vulnerable and soft. Mikasa is the pinnacle of that. I don’t necessarily like to write about her love or infatuation with Eren, but I do respect and admire and consider it integral to her character and her amazing capacity to love. We can have strong, kickass women who falter when it comes to love but are still considered strong for it. The two don’t have to be mutually exclusive and Mikasa is a beautiful example of that.
And Levi is strong, but real and vulnerable too; he’s honestly a fantastically developed character, from Petra explaining to Eren in the beginning how he’s not the amazing hero he’s painted to be to the public, to how Levi genuinely cares for Erwin and others and chooses hope despite all he’s suffered.
The end of the manga wrecked me a bit. Kind of like Games of Thrones. You have something that was so epic and well-done for so long, a rushed ending that isn't immediately sensical and isn't fulfilling is hard to stomach. Eventually, I'll move on from the denial of that and process what I think and feel about it. The whole reason we have fanfiction is to expand on canon, but it's made me put rivamika on the back burner until I figure it out. So I'm a little less hyper-fixated on the pairing right now even though interacting with you all and asks like this remind me what brought me here in the first place. 😊
To conclude, I’ll share that the very first rivamika content I wrote was a compilation of moments I thought could be inserted into season 3. These are still moments I plan to edit and publish one day. For anyone that actually read this far, I’ll put a rough and unedited excerpt of the first scene I ever wrote about them.
Thank you again anon 🖤😊
BEGIN EXCERPT [after the rooftop fight for the serum, immediately following the ceremony where Eren touched Historia by kissing her hand]:
Part of her was embarrassed at such a flagrant act of disobedience to a superior, especially to one who saved her and countless others' lives in the past. But mostly, she was anguished by the situation Captain Levi put her in once he revoked the serum meant to save Armin and planned to use it on Commander Erwin instead. Her current ostracization and self-loathing was not entirely her own fault. Anger she felt toward herself was just as easy to wield against him.
It must have shown in the grit of her teeth or defiant tone, because he turned to look at her, more aloof than curious.
Like a flint struck to steel, it ignited the fury she felt toward him.
“I shouldn’t have hesitated. I should have just killed you,” she answered him at last, piercing him with eyes darker than the night.
He wasn’t concerned. “You’re good, but not that good.”
Her hands fell to her side, fists clenched as she stood with a single, fluid movement. Before she could let loose a threat, he sighed.
“What’s the problem, Ackerman?” He was dismissive, his shoulders relaxed and posture loose.
The fire too furious to contain, she went sailing for him with the same speed from the battlefield. Her fingers already curled, she tightened her grasp as she swung her fist into his gods-damned apathetic face.
Levi wasn’t unprepared. He easily side-stepped her, then snatched her wrist to steal her momentum. Though he tried to toss her aside, she was no less fast; Mikasa dug her heel in and spun, her other arm shoving hard into his chest.
Too graceful to stumble, Levi used the chance to hook her second arm too. He caged both her wrists in a grip so strong, she was sure it bruised her bones. Still, he only looked at her warily, almost bored.
“Shouldn’t you be grateful? I chose Armin.” If his reminder was meant to ease her anger, it had the opposite effect.
Fury and desperation gifted her additional strength. She shoved into his chest hard. Levi shifted backward, nearly forced into loosening his grip; within that split second of an opening, Mikasa slammed her elbow into his chin, rocking his head backward.
“You did,” she seethed, but as fast as the fire inside her exploded, it was doused. Her next words came out broken and damp. “But I didn’t.”
Levi remained stern and otherwise unmoving as he attempted to flex his jaw through the spasm of pain. As the momentum of the fight died down, he loosened his hold on her wrists and evaluated her distraught frame.
Mikasa immediately released her own hands and turned away from him, eyes stinging from tears she refused to shed as she focused on the stars ahead. Admitting the harsh words aloud hurt her far more than any injury she could inflict onto him.
Not only was Armin one of the only friends she had, but he’d been a steadfast one throughout almost all she could remember of her life. After the trauma of her childhood, it was Eren and Armin who embraced her, whom she learned to love. Now, though, there was a wedge between her and Armin she was not sure could ever be removed. What was worse, as deplorable and selfish as she knew it proved her to be, was the painful wedge it now put between her and Eren too.
Once again, she found Levi standing at the peripheral of her sight, close enough to see but far enough to be a blur at the edge of her watery vision.
“You almost killed me.” Levi repeated his earlier words, but he said them with an odd bite, torn between frustration and patience. “You would have killed me to save him.”
Too late, Mikasa realized he hadn’t meant these words as an accusation, but an odd form of validation. She bit her bottom lip, teeth puncturing too hard; the tang of metal was sharp on her tongue when she swallowed blood.
“You thought about letting your closest friend die,” Levi said quietly, tiredly. “But I did let mine die. I left him for dead, when I could have saved him.”
Mikasa was startled from her selfish reverie, for the first time acknowledging the sacrifice he made on that fateful afternoon. She’d been too absorbed in her own relief, and then, her own regrets to consider what the decision had done to him.
For a brief moment, she considered turning to face him, but the stark reality of the matter made her refrain. How could she feel pity for his loss, when his loss enabled her gain? An uncomfortable knot tightened in her stomach.
“Tch,” Levi sighed. He was only one notch less taciturn, but for him, that was soft. “You’ll live with your guilt, and I’ll live with mine.”
His words granted Mikasa’s tears the permission to spill. She buried her face further into her scarf, both hands trembling at the worn threads. As quietly as he arrived onto the roof, Levi disappeared from it.
.
.
It was rare for him to indulge in alcohol or celebrations, but Erwin’s absence felt more tangible than his presence ever did. Levi distracted himself with the chaos of the few remaining Scouts that Erwin had died entrusting his legacy to, and attempted to drown the pain with whatever drink Connie Springer shoved into his hands.
He found Hanji with their ale long-forgotten about on the table as they half-stood from their seat, frantic while explaining some morbid experiment in great, vivid detail to an unsuspecting and slightly horrified MP officer.
Though Levi wordlessly took the seat beside them, Hanji paused their rant to slap him hard on the back, an enthusiastic greeting flying from their drunken lips. The MP took this chance to excuse himself, a pathetic attempt at politeness, but Hanji either didn’t care or didn’t notice.
“Ah, Levi,” they smiled at his drink, though it didn’t entirely reach their one eye. “Where you been?”
Levi didn’t answer. “You know, shitty-glasses, you’re even more unbearable about your experiments when you’re drunk.”
Hanji waved dismissively and reached for their ale. Years spent in battle and command together had gifted both of them with an eased familiarity, and sometimes, genuine friendship. In the same manner he ignored their question, Hanji ignored his lack of response and went on with their original inquiry.
“Careful, Captain,” Hanji warned lightly. “Now that there’s far fewer Scouts, you having a favorite might cause some division.”
Even though Hanji meant the words, there was a glint of mischief that twinkled in their remaining eye.
“It’s not favoritism,” Levi countered bluntly, turning his vision toward the young man on the far side of the room. “Eren is simply the best chance that we have in this war.”
Hanji laughed as if he’d made a joke and Levi looked back to stare at them, unable to be surprised at their quirks or oddities any longer, but still a touch curious about what spurned this current demonstration.
“I wasn’t talking about Eren,” Hanji said at last, a pointed nod toward his injured chin.
Levi blinked. He didn’t realize he was nursing his injury with the hand not on his drink. As though it were too hot to touch, Levi dropped his hand.
Hanji was not judgmental, nor inquisitive. In a war-torn life of losing too many cadets entrusted to him, the fact that Levi found a soldier with the strength and skill to remain safe was not only rare, but worth special attention. Still, it made him too lenient.
“Sometimes I think you’d let her get away with murder,” Hanji chided halfheartedly.
When he thought of Erwin dead in his grasp, sometimes he wasn’t sure if he already had.
My NiGHTS’ Visitors Headcanons!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Under the cut cause... a bit long!
Claris Sinclair
14-years and six months; androgyne (femandrogyne).
She comes from a wealthy, wide family of artists, most of them focused in entertainment (musicians, singers, actors, etc), but there are also some writers. Claris herself decided to try and be a singer (although more for personal passion than family honor).
Even though they share the same singing talent, Claris was never close to her mother, due to her being significantly distant thanks to her job. Her father, a writer, was always the closer, more caring parent of hers.
Claris can be described most of the time as the caring, empathetic, reliable girl that can be trusted not unlike a older sister. However, she can be very blunt, physically clumsy, and fiery. She can be quite a bit of a knowledge seeker as well.
She has a bit of a "I must be perfect at it” mindset, mostly directed towards her singing talent. It, along with her stage anxiety, came from her family’s hopes and pressure over her singing skills. Her adventure in Nightopia inspired her to lessen this mindset to manageable levels.
While she considered NiGHTS a great friend, Claris is not a full fan of her/their more risky antics, and doubted further helping her/them for a while after figuring out NiGHTS is a Nightmaren. Ultimately, though, she trusted her Ideya recovering with her/them.
She and Elliot developed a relationship after some months of meeting each other in the Night Dimension.
Elliot Edwards
14-years and nine months; demi-bisexual.
He grew up in a milder, simpler family, that usually worked on the education system. Elliot had a pretty lonely past before reaching school and becoming popular, resulting in him developing a passion for basketball.
Elliot never met his father; he only found out later that he wasn’t present in his home’s life. His mother, as compensation, was a hadworking and kind figure through his life, supporting his dreams even though they looked impossible.
Elliot is very friendly, energetic and modest boy that wouldn’t trade his trust and loyalty at his friends for anything. His stubborness, dangerous curosity, and mild silliness, though, can dent the nerves of someone that can’t tolerate it easily.
He is scared of being embarrased in public, due to believing his friends wouldn’t like him as much as if he could overcome anything. This came from his lonely pre-school childhood and his attempts to avoid repeating it. His adventure in Nightopia shows him that slipping up is alright, as long as you can back up and try again.
Even after finding out NiGHTS’ true nature, Elliot loved NiGHTS, getting accostumed more easily to her/their playful but mischeivous personality, and sharing her/their pain of hiding a part of themselves to keep their friends at their side.
He and Claris developed a relationship after some months of meeting each other in the Night Dimension.
William “Will” Taylor
12-years old and one month; androgyne (mascandrogyne).
His family is mild in the social scale, and works on the product development business. Will used to be relatively well known at his school, until he began to dedicate a good part of his life to soccer, accidentaly driving almost everyone of his age away due to his introverted attitude and high, noticeable talent.
While he finds his mother nice and caring, she didn’t have enough faith on his soccer player dreams. That wasn’t the case with his father, who was his best friend as compensation for having almost no kids of his age to talk to. Which is why Will felt devastated and lonely once his father had to go on a business trip.
Will is pretty humble, honest, tolerant, and sweet, being able to accept any trait his friends/close ones have (something that is both a blessing and a curse), while being determined to defend them. Although he can be quite shy, messy, and insecure to a degree.
His loneliness, caused by his own talent in soccer and his innate introverted nature, can make him a bit clingy once he gets close enough to someone, and make him try to impress and catch his friend’s attentions to not feel ditched. It could be mistaken as unwitting selfishness depending of his acts.
Will loves NiGHTS way too much, accepting her/them as a guardian figure in spite of them not being able to bond with paternal figures and her/them being a Nightmaren. His own tolerance is the reason why he isn’t as shaken as Helen over NiGHTS’ Nightmaren reveal.
He and Helen ultimately ended up just as friends, but they support each other endlessly.
Helen Cartwright
12-years old and five months; bisexual.
She comes from one of many musically gifted family lineages of Bellbridge. Helen has been a prodigy on her family’s specialty, the violin, ever since she was small, thanks to her mother’s guidance.
Her parents divorced when she around five to six years old, so she only vaguely remembers him. She and her mother used to be inseparably close and very supportive, until Junior High rolled around and Helen made friends she began to spend more time with (which would later cause her immense regret and, consequentially, nightmares).
Helen is polite, corteous and pretty well-mannered due to her background, along with being kind, amicable and patient. But she’s usually quite unsure, overly sentimental, and a bit naive.
Although she’s quite easy to terrify/scare/cause fear on, especially by exploiting her nyctophobia, she also tries to do the right thing and defend her friends as best as she can.
Helen trusted NiGHTS to protect her, due to considering her/them alot more genuinely brave than her, and found her/them fun to hang with. She quietly forgives NiGHTS after finding out she/they is/are a Nightmaren, but takes a more careful approach than Will.
She and Will ultimately ended up just as friends, but they support each other endlessly.
My Favorite Grey’s Anatomy Characters (FEMALE)
I vaguely remember hearing my mom talk about Grey’s Anatomy when I was young. I then thought about it as an “adult show” (not in the pg18 sense, but like the shows that adults watch), so when Netflix put the show up, I decided to give it a try. The least I expected out of this show was to get attached to the characters and the show itself. But then it gives me so many emotions every time I watch. I have cried, laughed and fell in love again and again. 11 seasons in, and here I am, dedicating a whole blog post (AND MORE TO COME) to the show.
Not only that but the show showcases some of the strongest female characters in television history. They featured women with tragic and very traumatic backstories, and turned them into very inspiring ones.    ⁽ᵗʰᵉ ᵖᵒˢᵗ ᶜᵒⁿᵗᵃᶦⁿˢ ˢᵖᵒᶦˡᵉʳˢ ᵉˢᵖ ᶠᵒʳ ᵗʰᵒˢᵉ ʷʰᵒ ʰᵃᵛᵉⁿ'ᵗ ʷᵃᵗᶜʰᵉᵈ ᵃⁿʸ ᵉᵖᶦˢᵒᵈᵉˢ ʸᵉᵗ⁾
Who doesn’t love a heavily traumatized lead character? Merdith Grey is not only a badass for overcoming her traumas despite ignoring them for years, but she’s also a badass for taking them as her life lessons and learning from her past mistakes.
Some of Meredith’s traumas:
She unknowingly has seen her mom with her lover (at such a young age)
Saw how ruined her mom got when both her marriage and the extra marital relationship didn’t work out
Suffered the consequences of her mom's ambitious nature
She had to live with her mom’s expectations and had to live in her shadow after following her footsteps
Became a mistress without knowing and was humiliated by Derek’s wife
Has seen her friends on the deathbed
Almost got herself killed a couple of times
Suffered from miscarriage
Got cheated on
Lost her sister on a plane crash she was also in
ABANDONMENT! Literally almost everyone she loved has moved away or died
And many more. But then, she kept going. She proved her mom wrong. She proved her traumas wrong. She went on to build a happy family despite coming from a very broken one. She has forgiven people who did her wrong so many times. She took on the career that had stolen her mom and her childhood away, (and she’s rocking it). She became the mom she never had to her kids and the wife her mom never was. She has done it all with her humility intact.  She’s literally an icon of being a bad bxtch: a badass, tough, and classy queen.
Being raised as an only child, I couldn’t really blame Meredith for reacting the way she did when she first met Lexie. Not to mention she started off as someone who **almost flirted with Derek when he was being unstable with Mer. She isn’t Meredith’s only sister, but they share the same dream and passion: medicine. She was known among the residents as “Lexipedia” because of her photographic memory. Not only am I very much attracted to intelligent characters, but Lexie was also quirky and funny. She easily forgave Meredith and tried her best to understand her. They were able to work past their issues and be the best sister duo in the show, and Derek’s best neuro student. She’s someone who’s filled with so much love, and therefore gave as much love as she had in her.
At first, I couldn’t understand why she decided to let go of Mark instead of being open for discussion with him in regards to Mark’s children. they were literally perfect for each other and seeing her evade the topic on hand was somehow disappointing. But then, I remember her talking about being young and not being able to accept being a grandma. And it was something she had to accept even though Mark didn’t ask for her to. Because it was a part of who Mark was. And like she mentioned on the show, it’s not something someone so young can process right away. She needed time. Realizing how much she loved Mark and how ready she is to take it all in, she got brave and was ready to try again. I miss seeing her on the show. I wish her and Mark got their happy ending together.  “𝐼𝓉 𝒶𝓁𝓌𝒶𝓎𝓈 𝒻𝑒𝑒𝓁𝓈 𝓁𝒾𝓀𝑒 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓇𝑒 𝒾𝓈 𝒿𝓊𝓈𝓉 𝑜𝓃𝑒 𝓅𝑒𝓇𝓈𝑜𝓃 𝒾𝓃 𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓈 𝓌𝑜𝓇𝓁𝒹 𝓉𝑜 𝓁𝑜𝓋𝑒. Derek’s legal wife and someone who made sure Meredith knew where she should be standing especially in Derek Shepherd’s life. Other than getting tired of her husband’s passive aggressiveness especially after she cheated on him with his bestfriend, Grey’s Anatomy didn’t show us Addison’s back story much. However, her character made such an impact. She remained classy: she worked with her ex-husband and his “mistress”, and tried her hardest to keep things professional, acknowledged her mistakes which caused her marriage demise and gracefully moved on. I think I’ll be watching Private Practice as well because of her.
We all need a bestfriend that brings us back to the ground when we’ve flown too high, who understands us more than we probably understand ourselves, who won’t judge us based on the decisions we make but won’t also hesitate to correct us when we’re taking the wrong way. We all need someone we can call our other half: our person. Meredith was lucky to have Cristina, and Cristina with Meredith. They started seeing each other as rivals, but grew to love each other more than like sisters. Both are strong, goal oriented, smart and gorgeous. Their opinions may clash at times, they’ve gone through countless misunderstandings, but things will always work out between them because they’re each other’s persons. She proved herself to be a main character on her own. Definitely not your “asian sidekick”.  To some, Cristina may come off as arrogant, obnoxious and a know-it-all. But she’s like that because she has always walked her talk. She knows her capabilities and she’ll stop at nothing for the sake of improvement and expanding her knowledge. She’s an independent woman who tends to forget how much of a bad bitch she is at times, but before things get out of hand she goes right back to her self.
5. 𝓐𝓹𝓻𝓲𝓵 𝓚𝓮𝓹𝓷𝓮𝓻
Tumblr media
ᵖᶦᶜᵗᵘʳᵉ ᵗᵃᵏᵉⁿ ᶠʳᵒᵐ ᵖᶦⁿᵗᵉʳᵉˢᵗ
She started off to be annoying, especially with the Mercy-Westers trying to “replace” our OG residents in Seattle Grace. With her unnecessarily high pitched voice and her obsession with faith, I did have a hard time watching her at first. Not to mention her clumsiness that almost cost the other residents’ job. However, not loving April Kepner is impossible. She grows on you, with her amazing character development.
She’s sweet, funny and kind. And she never forces her religion to other people, instead she inspires others using it. She proves that her charming appearance hides a charismatic strong and opinionated woman who never backs down especially when she knows she’s right. She never lets other people influence her decision and she sticks by with what she believes is the best. It’s also right to mention how well she manages the ER and how amazing of a trauma surgeon she is. She has her fair share of wrong decisions, a fair amount of people she has hurt, but that didn’t hinder her from giving the love inside of her around. She’s an amazing surgeon, an awesome friend and a very inspiring woman.
“𝐼 𝒽𝒶𝓋𝑒 𝓉𝑜 𝒷𝑒𝓁𝒾𝑒𝓋𝑒 𝓉𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓃 𝒾𝒻 𝓈𝑜𝓂𝑒𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓈𝑒𝑒𝓂𝓈 𝓁𝒾𝓀𝑒 𝒾𝓉 𝒸𝒶𝓃'𝓉 𝒷𝑒 𝒻𝒾𝓍𝑒𝒹, 𝒹𝑜𝑒𝓈𝓃'𝓉 𝓂𝑒𝒶𝓃 𝒾𝓉'𝓈 𝒷𝓇𝑜𝓀𝑒𝓃.”- April Kepner, Season 12 Episode 11
An honorable mention to this list: 𝓗𝓮𝓪𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓻 𝓑𝓻𝓸𝓸𝓴𝓼
Tumblr media
ᵖᶦᶜᵗᵘʳᵉ ᵗᵃᵏᵉⁿ ᶠʳᵒᵐ ᵖᶦⁿᵗᵉʳᵉˢᵗ
Mousey! My favorite post plane crash intern. She was more of a background character, but she was too cute not to notice. Not to mention she’s always been quirky, weird and pure. She rarely spoke bad against her attendings and her co-intern and Derek Shepherd treasured her so much. She could’ve been an amazing neurosurgeon.
AND THAT CONCLUDES this list (so far) I have 8 more seasons to catch up on and maybe someday, I’ll be able to edit and add more on to the list. Currently, Amelia and Jo are growing on me. Arizona has disappointed me so many times, Callie is starting to annoy me, Bailey is becoming less of a teacher like she’s always been and I’ve just started knowing Maggie Pierce, hence I didn’t include them. I can’t wait to write more about Grey’s. Weirdly enough, it has been my pandemic comfort show-- along with The Twilight Saga.
UPDATE ON THIS LIST: I have finally finished the 15 seasons in Netflix (still waiting for the last 2 seasons I AM BEGGING NETFLIX TO PLS UPLOAD IT NOW) and I have another addition on the list.
7. 𝓐𝓶𝓮𝓵𝓲𝓪 𝓢𝓱𝓮𝓹𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓭
Tumblr media
ᵖᶦᶜᵗᵘʳᵉ ᵗᵃᵏᵉⁿ ᶠʳᵒᵐ ᵖᶦⁿᵗᵉʳᵉˢᵗ
She’s known as the Shepherds’ trouble child, a black sheep, the disturbed daughter. However, I believe we can all agree that Amelia is an amazing woman who’s misunderstood because of her unresolved childhood trauma, abandonment and daddy issues. Aside from her wit and skills as a neurosurgeon, I think she’s a great teacher and an awesome friend. She wasn’t the best wife to Owen, but I think she knows that she did her best. I have yet to see how her story with Linc unfolds but let me just put how amazing she is out here.
She has the funniest dark jokes and seeing her around is just a joy. Her sisters are truly missing out by shutting her out.
Ooooh, for the character ask how about carter kane, pollux from pjo and uhhhh sam winchester? <3
Omg what great character choices!!!!
1) Starting with Sam Winchester
Sexuality Headcanon: So obviously this man likes girls quite a lot, but I just get the vibes that he experimented with guys in college and is so chill with it he barely even thinks about it anymore, so either bi or bicurious
Gender Headcanon: I have the tendency to assume he’s cis but I could see Sam as a trans guy too
A ship I have with said character: I never moved on from shipping season 5 samifer, the whole made for each other thing, the whole two sides of the same coin, the whole I’m the only one who’ll ever truly understand you, that’s what still draws me to that ship (soulmates but make it angsty and painful)
A BROTP I have with said character: I mean would it even be supernatural if I didn’t mention his relationship with Dean? But that seems like a cop out cause they’re actual brothers so I’m gonna say Castiel or Rowena. Castiel because they’re both people who want faith in their lives, and who have a lot of respect for the people they love. And watching them overcome the initial tensions that came from Sam being the boy with the demon blood was really sweet. The sort of friendship and bond that comes from being close to the same person. Rowena because in later seasons Sam doesn’t get too much development and I think their friendship is one of the better things that happened to his character
A NOTP I have with said character: I doubt its controversial to say I don’t ship wincest? That would probably be my only true notp, but also since I wanna be spicy, I don’t really see him with Gabriel? They’re sweet in aus but I don’t see Sam going for Gabriel’s flirtations, he seems a lot more intense and serious in romances (with jess and ruby for example)
A random headcanon: This one is tricky cause I read so much fic I don’t know what’s canon and what’s headcanon anymore. I think in the age of spotify he listens to it a lot to make up for the years when Dean would only play classic rock before he softened up
General Opinion over said character: Sam is someone I have a lot of strong feelings for, he fits into that niche of characters that I both relate to in terms of struggles as well as look up to for how he deals with them. I like the struggle against darkness within him, and his worth, and whether he’s a monster or not due to what happened to him, I do feel like his character was wasted a bit towards the end of the show though
2) Pollux our favorite lil Dionysus kid
Sexuality Headcanon: I feel like Dionysus kids are often pan and I headcanon Pollux as poly too
Gender Headcanon: Cis
A ship I have with said character: Ooooh I've never though of this let me dig up canon characters roughly his age. I can see him crushing on Michael Yew and Katie Gardner, quick witted and bossy but good people.
A BROTP I have with said character: Charles Beckendorf. I think Pollux would respect Beckendorf’s hard working attitude and kind heart, and I think Pollux would find his awkwardness around people endearing since he’s a bit awkward himself and they’d probably be those friends that can like work on their hobbies around each other.
A NOTP I have with said character: Never in a million years with Clarisse, the poor boy would get trampled on and I think she’d be mean (I’m sorry Clarisse I love you I promise)
A random headcanon: He’s awkward and shy, and a little sheltered but he’s very sweet. After his brother died he had a hard time opening up to people, and became very private, but he’s a good teacher and is very dedicated to helping his dad with the strawberry fields.
General Opinion over said character: He’s such a cool character, I really love him in the original pjo series because he’s very very much a background character but he makes the world richer. I love that through him Mr D. gets to show a softer and more caring side and one that is fiercely loyal and protective, and I think that was an important part of the message of pjo, how the gods are shitty parents but most of them do care in their own way even though they never show it, and I’m glad Pollux was able to do that. I think he deserved better (aka for his twin brother not to die kay thanks) and I would have loved to see more of him in the rest of the series.
3) Finally our lovely Carter Kane
Sexuality Headcanon: Straight, demi-romantic and utterly clueless
Gender Headcanon: Cis
A ship I have with said character: Zarter! If it isn’t broke don’t fix it. This boy is head over heals for a strong confident and sassy woman who could kill him and really, who wouldn’t be? I love the thought of them bonding over their unconventional childhoods and their longing to discover things they think are “normal” but that they missed out on. I also think they would fall into the kind of relationship where they’re best friends, they have full and utter trust in each other, and they also discover how to navigate romance together
A BROTP I have with said character: Once again picking Sadie feels like a cop out. I really like his relationship with Amos too, but he’s Carter’s uncle so not sure it fits. I like to think of his relationship with Walt as being very close and like, the kind of brotherly trust that would make them close friends and have each other’s backs all the time
A NOTP I have with said character: Not sure I have one since any ship involving him makes me happy just because it has him in it and he deserves love. However I have seen a lot of fics with him and Horus, and I actually don’t think I like it all that much? Maybe cause Horus is often a bit immature with his emotions I don’t know how well their chemistry would work. This is out of character for me cause usually I really love the concept of host/supernatural entity ships, but maybe it’s also cause Carter is so young in the first book and Horus seems way too old for him? Maybe when Carter is in his 30s?
A random headcanon: I think he would come into his responsibilities very quickly. I think while he would accept Amos as being mostly in charge for a while he would try to be involved with changing how the House of Life is run as Pharaoh, because he’d see it as his responsibility and he’d do everything in his power to do it right, and prove to those that doubt him that he has what it takes.
General Opinion over said character: He’s my favorite character in the Kane Chronicles and probably in the whole Riordan verse. He means a lot to me because I also had to fly around a lot when I was a kid and I moved around a lot too, so when I read these books I could relate a lot to the idea of feeling like the airport is your home. I also grew up with a single parent of the same gender as me wishing I had known members of my very near family better than I did. Also I knew what it felt like to want to go out and play with kids my age but to not be able to because I couldn’t speak the language, and I felt really close to Carter because I see my own childhood represented in him. He’s also very rule abiding and I loved that his dad told him not to do something and he actually followed that, because same haha. I can only hope to one day become as strong and confident as him.
This took waaay longer than expected and I wrote way too much, but it was so fun, thank you @bluecookiesforrick once again for these! <3 love you!!!
Late post but here they are.
Y'all, meet the first 3 OCs i made from 2 years ago: Cho Bae-sun, Stellax Eclaire, and Maurice Lemieux 🌟🌻
(HCs and random stuff about these trio is under cut! I really just feel like writing about them since i have no one to talk to lmao)
Long post ahead!!
Cho Bae-sun
Age: 17
☀️ Bae-sun was the only child of a family wherein he was barely taken care of since he was little.
☀️ It all started when his mom married the wrong man and once he was born, his mom took him with her and ran away.
☀️ His dad being quite a powerful man, found them after 4 years and a fight for custody over little Bae-sun began.
☀️ After the constant feud between his parents and their families, they all finally came into an agreement that Bae-sun will live into two different homes for the rest of his childhood. Shortly after, his parents finally got divorced.
☀️ Though it didn't end there as when Bae-sun turned 8 years old, his mom and dad remarried and in just a few months, the old cycle of abuse came back.
☀️ This caused Bae-sun to grow old faster than he currently is after all the pain he shared with his lovesick mother. Going so far that he—a literal child—started giving his own mom advices about leaving his father.
☀️ But she couldn't because of many reasons, reasons who got her sentenced to prison when her son turned 12.
☀️ Bae-sun would later find out his father's history in the criminal world and how he accidentally sent his wife to jail by being too much of a coward to admit the murder he committed.
☀️ It didn't take long for regret to catch up to him and out of guilt, he tried to reconnect with his only son, only to be left to wither away by a 15 year old Bae-sun who already lost his faith on him.
☀️ Bae-sun became much more of a dedicated child than he already is so he can pursue the job of being a lawyer and serve justice for his mom which is unluckily for him, wasn't in fate's list of what is planned for him yet.
☀️ After being dragged by a couple of clueless peers into a nightclub, Bae-sun is yet to discover the secrets the latter holds when by the end of the night, he was bathing in the blood of his 'friends' and his life being the prize of the sick game they had to play to enter the one and only, Luene d' Solei.
☀️ A twisted part of the world buried deep within it, with the only entrance being the unsuspecting nightclub is what Luene d' Solei truly is. It is a realm where capable humans work together to balance humanity by deciding one's fate such as where a child would be born and how they will die as they grow old or if they ever will.
☀️ Bae-sun, who proved himself useful, was accepted into the organization and was given the job to be the executioner whether he likes it or not since there's no coming back now that ha has shed blood on his hands.
☀️ His normal life outside continued but when nighttime comes, he has to do as he was told by the order and use his blade against those on his list.
☀️ Though it wasn't just any normal assassinations, no, it couldn't even be called as such when all Bae-sun does is to shine the reflection of his ssangsudo to those who was listed to die.
☀️ And right there and then, what was decided for them will happen right before his eyes.
Stellax Eclaire
Age: 16
🌙 Eclaire is one of those unfortunate children who was taken away from their genuinely loving family by a snake.
🌙 She was left in Korea, far from where her parents are and was found by a kind old lady named Jang Min Daseul near a secluded pond that same day.
🌙 Since then, Eclaire grew in a simple home taken care of by that same woman, who happen to have fail to raise his son unlike with what she did with Stellax.
🌙 While she was growing up, Eclaire would often see the cold treatment Min Daseul got from her own child and swore to be there for her no matter what.
🌙 And though she was raised properly, Eclaire still turned to be too mischievous and callous at times.
🌙 She would sometimes play mean pranks on those who wronged her and would definitely curse out those she hates even on public, which gets her a flying shoe from Min Daseul everytime.
🌙 This was the same reason why she immediately got along with her uncle, Maurice Lemieux, who was Min Daseul's adopted son.
🌙 The two would often do silly things just to annoy their mother such as playing anime openings or any song in general way too loud. They'd usually get an earful but by the end of the day, they'll still be enjoying each other's company.
🌙 But unbeknownst to them was Min Daseul's nearing end.
🌙 At a sunny monday morning, the same day where a new student was introduced to Eclaire's class, the call that broke the girl into tears came.
🌙 From then on, knowing that Min Daseul's biological son wouldn't even bat an eye on her, Eclaire was taken to Maurice's home where she'll now live until she's able to afford an apartment of her own.
🌙 Not wanting to be too much of a burden for her uncle, Eclaire started to look for jobs behind his back so she could surprise him.
🌙 Luckily, the new student knows a thing or two about jobs and instantly, Eclaire was hooked. She was then told to bring a couple of people she hates for that night and although confused, Eclaire did as she was told.
🌙 Her eyes almost bulged out of its sockets seeing where they were led by none other than the boy named Bae-sun himself. Only if she knew what was coming to her...
Maurice Lemieux
Age: 33
🌟 Maurice is the son of Min Daseul's half sister who early on died as she gave birth, leaving Min Daseul the responsibility to raise him as his father's whereabouts are still unknown.
🌟 Maurice soon became the eldest child when after just 2 years, Min Daseul birthed her first child.
🌟 Unlike his younger brother, Maurice grew up to be a loving and thoughtful son even when he ended up in a place he shouldn't be standing on back when he turned 19.
🌟 So he knows what exactly Luene d' Solei is as he was working there for almost his entire adulthood.
🌟 Which is why this man almost had a heart attack hearing his niece's name going around the realm.
🌟 He immediately rushed to where she is and if it weren't for the guards around, Bae-sun would already be dead. Fortunately for the young man, all he got was a kick in where the sun doesn't shine so bye bye babies.
🌟 He's now both the cool uncle that will rap Nicki Minaj's Super Bass with you and the overprotective dad that will give you clothes made by the church.
🌟 Also, he's not a stripper by the way, i just wanted to practice anatomy and accidentally took it too far and created Maurice.
🌟 And yes, he's single 👁️ but plans to grow old as that one rich uncle who travels the world in Gucci instead of having kids and getting married.
Fun facts:
• All the characters(not from jjba itself) and part of the plot of my books from Wattpad actually belong to/with these three so yeah, i made those books because i wanna practice my writing skills before jumping to a whole story i entirely made and is not a fanfic :>>
• That's why these OCs have names and stuff that are heavily tied with astrology shit just like my books (I didn't even got to that point of story ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ)
• Don't worry tho, if i ever came back to writing in Wattpad or writing in general, i wouldn't include these three since they're the protagonists of their own world and they wouldn't just fit in with the story.
• Btw, this whole AU is inspired by Vento Aureo and a bit of Harry Potter (Didn't see that one coming didn't you ツ)
HOMETOWN: Key West, FL
NEIGHBORHOOD: Newtown
CHARACTER HISTORY [TW: CHILD NEGLECT]
Jeb Boregard may have never met his father, but the man’s reputation set a path that would make it difficult for him to stray from. With his father in prison indefinitely following a failed attempt at a robbery, stealing and conning would be the only way the Boregards would stay afloat for years to come. His mother had learned how to pout her lip as a single teen mother after having her son at fifteen and it was an act perfected by the time it was all she could do to provide for herself and her son.
Jeb had been named after the man, a sad syllable that went like Jed, but his mother regretted it after a month. She would tie bows in his hair as a child and send him along for a second time in lines where they were given free things, pretending that it was her second child that needed a serving, a sample, a free thing. Eventually, the Boregards would be recognized and Jeb was dubbed Bowie for his mother’s attempts against the system.
Bowie has lived in the Key his whole life, and the mobile home and its residents had seen him grow up to be the man he is today. From sticking his head in windows to scope out what he didn’t have in comparison to the other trailers in the park and hiding from CPS when they came around because of his absences from school, Bowie was the child without any parental figures that Bahama Village wanted anything but the responsibility to raise.
At sixteen, Bowie’s mother left the Key after running off with a man who won the Florida lottery. His mother paid off their trailer and rent for nearly four years with the intention of coming back, but she never did. Postcards stopped coming just as quickly as they started, and Bowie was left to his own devices early on.
After getting his GED and working at the key West Yacht Club as a waiter, he met the woman who would soon be the bane of his existence. Ainsley flirted with him the moment they met and a soft familiarity with the other during high school became infatuation and trust that was driven by the approval of her family, the taste of the Kook life, and someone who wanted to teach Bowie rather than scold him. This didn’t last very long, though. Ainsley wanted an escape and Bowie’s independence offered her that, and she would swallow it whole and make it her own soon enough.
Her family assisted him in his endeavors after they started dating in hopes of making him worthy of their daughter after they accepted that they couldn’t shake him off. This didn’t last very long. Eventually Ainsley became erratic and her hunger for her own desires drove a wedge between her and her family, the trouble she sought making her difficult to handle. She went to Bowie for comfort and eventually, she never left his side. Her parents cut her off for the treachery she imposed and she went to Bowie for help. They moved in together at nineteen into the trailer he grew up in and they’ve been there ever since. The strength of their relationship, however, did not settle.
Bowie took upon a series of jobs to help keep the both of them afloat while Ainsley attempted to go to school, but she dropped out after a semester of college. She struggled to fend for herself after being so used to having things handed to her and it caused a lot of strife between them. She constantly threatened to leave him, but Bowie knew that even if he was tired of her, he needed the little inheritance she did have in order to provide for himself in the midst of the chaos her indulgent lifetsyle imposed upon him and the way he budgeted. If he was poor before, he was even poorer now. He simply had to convince himself that with her, their twisted lie of love was also enough.
PRESENT DAY [TW: DOMESTIC ABUSE]
Ainsley blamed Bowie for her downfall, and arguments like these always left them at odds. Throughout the eight years they’d been together, their outbursts only got worse. The concerned calls to the Grotto Mobile Home came with a weariness where the station often waited for two calls of concern about lot 207 rather than coming immediately. However, the situation was always harder for than to assess than they thought the first few times and it was Ainsley that they were concerned over much more than Bowie on those calls. If only they knew it was Ainsley who had thrown the first place, the first vase, who broke the TV, and had left every cry and shout on his skin in fading yellow and blue swirls of color on his skin.
Bowie and Ainsley have been on and off as a couple for the years they’d been together. He often tried to spark a different concern, but it always ended up the same. Instead, the nights he ended up with someone else on those breaks were dedicated to pretending it was Ainsley’s touch that was that gentle.
Despite the bad blood between him and his girlfriend’s family, it never affected his position at the yacht club. In fact, they kept him in good review since their only faith in the young couple was keeping as many obstacles away from how they could provide for themselves. The lessons they gave Bowie in sailing shined light on a natural skill where he became the instructor, and his position on the wait staff nearly permanent.
However, Bowie’s integrity has never changed and his desperation to find himself something to call his own fed a childhood habit of taking what wasn’t his. The yacht club isn’t any different. Taking the yachts out in the middle of the night and selling moonlight tours to tourists, he’s a con man in the making with a streak for stealing that nearly everyone on the Key has been marked by. From stealing a table from the Lucky Icarus to chastising even military personnel when given the invitation (or not) to come into their home, Bowie Boregard defied all superstitions that he would amount to nothing, but having sticky fingers can’t be much better.
Her Name Is Not “baby”, It’s JANET.
Tumblr media
It’s not “Miss Jackson if you’re nasty” either, although just as iconic.
What better way to celebrate Women’s Month than to get to know a great embodiment of a strong and powerful woman. In fact, so strong and so powerful that my instinctive reaction when I first saw the invite to her journalism class was “Oh no.”
That was the G-Rated version of it actually. Nevertheless, same message.
I barely even knew who she was or what her teaching style was going to be like. Her G-suite display picture just exuded “Oh no” energy. I mean that as a compliment.
I went straight to my friend from elementary school who shifted to Communication a year earlier than I did. I said “Do you have any tea on her?” The first thing he told me was that she had very high standards.
I like that, actually.
Back when I was in high school, which seems like very long time despite only having been a whopping three years, those were the types of teachers that I would consider my favorite ones. Ma’am Rachel from my English class, and Ma’am Elma from my Research and Biology class. Both of which actually went on to be school heads in different schools after we graduated.
I’m just here thinking to myself “God, I would’ve been excelling at her class if it isn’t for this stupid pandemic.” I clearly am not. We will get to that soon.
When we had the chance to organize an interview as a class, it invigorated me a tad bit. This is the closest I can get to having human interaction in an academic sense, but it was also my chance to have an idea or two of who ‘Janet Tibaldo’ was. Is she going to be the bane of my existence for the next four or so years or is she going to be alongside the people who I consider to be my “heroes”?
To my surprise, she’s very, well... human.
From what I’ve gathered in both of the interviews, our class’ and the other, she is a woman of strength. She is a passionate educator, a dedicated mother, and most of all, a woman of faith and devotion. In both of the interviews, she often emphasizes the importance of the “vertical relationship” in her life, and how it can have a positive effect in one’s horizontal relationships.
I do appreciate those remarks from her quite a bit, despite me having a rockier and more complex relationship with God as a queer person. I never considered myself an atheist. I do believe in God, and I believe that I am loved by God, despite knowing that people out there will try to convince me otherwise.
How could he possibly hate me when I pray to him too and he answers them just the same? It makes absolutely no sense to me.
When she said that you can fix your horizontal relationships once your vertical relationship is stable, it did strike a cord just as much as it struck a verve in me. I am trying to. It took me a while, but nevertheless I’m glad that I am here.
She often described herself as “strict”, both as a parent and an educator. It often surprises me how much bombardment my friend from elementary experiences from her subjects. The way he describes it to me sounds a bit like torture. I always took his words about her with a grain of salt. I will probably never believe him until I experience it first hand. He did say I was lucky that I shifted during online classes because she is a bit more lenient, otherwise I would’ve been dead meat.
If she was the monster that she’s painted out to be, I do understand why. It’s not like I don’t have a maternal figure or two in my life with eerily similar approaches. Like I said, she is a bit more human than what one would expect. She talked about her sleepless nights to dedicate herself onto her work, how she takes it upon herself when things go wrong, and how she said she hopes for a better and more empathetic world when I asked about her hopes for the future. To me she sounds like a person who stands her ground and knows exactly what she wants, even if it gets the best of her at times.
With that, she shared a peek of her younger days, how she spent her childhood during the Martial Law era, how newscasters on TV sparked her interest in the field of Communication, how in her college days they made do with the resources they had back then, emphasizing how lucky we are to have the technology we have now, how she was an activist back in the day. It painted a picture in my mind. Ahhh. No wonder.
There has always been ‘fire’ inside of her. A fire that lead her to be an educator today, despite having left the path of being a media practitioner.
I did think about it a couple of times. If being a visual artist doesn’t work out for me, maybe I’ll just teach. To me, it looks fun. She did say that she never thought in a million years that she would end up becoming a teacher because she thought it looked boring. According to her, lot of her family members ended up becoming teachers and she never wanted to be one of them. Maybe there’s some ugly parts of it that I don’t get to see, but it seems like a much more stable career path than visual arts, especially in a country like this.
Just from the interviews alone, you can tell that she has so much wisdom to offer in this field. That makes me all the more excited to meet her in person. If anything, there’s your proof right there that God is out there writing poetic justice for people. Maybe it was God’s way of saying “I have something better in mind for you, you just have to trust me.”
Another standout from the interviews was when she told all of us as a piece of advice that we should grab opportunities as they come. Oftentimes, the biggest regrets you have in life aren’t the things you did but the things you didn’t do. I have to admit, the main reason why this music video is taking too long to make is because of self doubt and insecurity. She’s right. I should toughen up a bit, shouldn’t I? Not only that, but there’s a lot of competitions that I found interesting in the facebook group that I just allowed to pass me by. I don’t want to blame my years in Architecture for it, because it did cause me some good. It’s just that I knew what I was running away from after years of feeling like I will never amount to anything.
I knew that. If anything I was way bolder when I left high school, only for Architecture to beat me down. It does take someone like her to remind me of who I was then.
When I was going through my depressive episode late last year, ultimately leading me to shift to Communication, I found myself seeking refuge in the music of Janet Jackson. As a matter of fact, I shared her music to the same friend I mentioned earlier, and now he’s a fan too. We’d often joke about which Janet we were talking about in the conversation.
On one hand, we have Janet the popstar, who despite being blacklisted by Bush’s racist and misogynistic America, kept on going. She kept performing and making music for as recent as 2018, and now she’s inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On the other, we have Janet the teacher, who keeps holding on to her faith despite all of the trials and challenges that came her way all these years.
What’s it about Janets being fiery passionate women anyway?
That actually leads me to my next point of interest.
What moved me the most about both of the interviews was her openness about her struggles with mental health, and how she refers students to seek help as well back when classes were physical. I don’t think conversations like these were possible back in the day, especially when I was a child. Apparently I didn’t have ADHD I was just an idiot, and people like me get punished for their idiocy. That was my upbringing, and it’s so refreshing to know that kids nowadays are lucky to have a ‘zeitgeist’ like this.
I was brought up for the longest time in the idea that if you show any signs of vulnerability, you are weak. It took some time for me to ‘rewire’ my brain and undo all of that...
because that is blatantly false.
If anything, for me, it further solidified how strong she was. It takes so much strength to admit that you’re human. It takes so much courage to tell yourself that you probably need help because you struggle in this aspect of your life. It is so easy to pretend that you can take everything like a champ and you don’t need anyone to help you.
The easy route was to say “I’m fine” or “I’m doing good” when asked a simple question “How are you?”, the hard route is to ask yourself that same question “How am I?” and be honest and introspective about it.
She did just that. She took the hard route.
She said she was having trouble sleeping and that she had to consult a mental heath expert for that recently, and that this pandemic made it particularly hard for her to juggle work and home matters.
I don’t think she will ever understand how a simple statement like that inspires someone like me, because what I got from that was ‘if somebody as strong and as passionate as her bleeds the same way that I do, I too can be strong like her.’
I just booked my appointment to my therapist yesterday. I haven’t seen her in quite some time now. It’s nice to know that I’m not alone in this, despite going there for feeling alone. Ironic, isn’t it? I feel like I’m running out of friends, and it’s starting to feel like paralysis, really.
After the interview ended, and I finished watching the interview from the other block, I couldn’t grasp the idea of this woman being taken as a monster, because the only words I could think of in association to her thus far is ‘uplifting’ and ‘inspiring’, in the same way that Ma’am Rachel was one of the people who inspired me to be a a cartoonist and Ma’am Elma inspired me to be a competitive dancer.
I had to give up three years worth of friendships to start back from scratch and to be here. I was actually so unsure if it was even worth the sacrifice, but Ma’am Janet Tibaldo, out of all people, showed me something to look forward to in this field. Based on what I’ve gathered from her, I’m up for a good time.
Doing the nostalgia thing again.  Go figure, lol.  Anyway.  Today I’m lamenting the early departure of some shows that I watched once upon a time and there are so many.  Too many that (were) ended either right as they were getting good or just weren’t given a proper chance.  Oh what could have been.  Here are some of them, off the top of my head.  This is by no means a complete list because there have been just too many for me to remember.  Feel free to add your own.
I either follow actors/actresses that I have enjoyed in previous shows or get drawn in by the drama or fantasy or utter sci-fi-ness (lol) of it all.
Bunheads
"Bunheads" tells the fish-out-of-water story of Michelle Simms, a once-promising classically trained professional dancer who was drawn to the lights of Las Vegas, where she became a showgirl. After she impulsively marries her persistent suitor, she moves to his sleepy California coastal town, where he lives with his mother, Fanny, herself a former dancer. Fanny now runs a local dance studio. Michelle ends up bonding with some of Fanny's students after meeting them. Among the students are sweet Boo, who struggles with her body type; rebellious Sasha, who has the talent to be a ballet dancer but doesn't have her heart in it because of family issues; shapely Ginny, who's not comfortable in her own skin; and fun-loving Melanie, ready for whatever life throws at her. The students benefit from Michelle's knowledge, but she also benefits from them as they help her adapt to small-town life.
Off the Map
Idealistic, young Dr. Lily Brenner lands at an understaffed medical clinic in a tiny town in the South American jungle. She is joined by other young doctors, all of whom are running away from personal demons. The clinic was founded by enigmatic Ben Keeton, who was formerly the youngest chief of surgery at UCLA. Keeton will teach the newcomers how to save lives in the most-challenging environment they have ever faced.
Defying Gravity
An international crew of eight astronauts -- four men and four women -- sets off on a mysterious, six-year mission covering billions of miles aboard a ship called the Antares. Inspired by the fictional docudrama "Space Odyssey: Voyage to the Planets," the show tells the story of both the astronauts as they explore Venus and the other planets in the solar system, and their supportive and dedicated ground crew. Episodes alternate between the present, on the current mission, and flashbacks to earlier years when the final eight were still in the grueling selection and training process.
Flashforward
Residents of Los Angeles go about their day unaware that a mysterious event is about to change their lives. FBI agents Mark Benford and Demetri Noh are in a car chase; Benford's physician wife is in the middle of surgery; and Benford's friend Aaron Stark works on power lines high above the ground. Suddenly, something causes everyone in the world to black out for just over two minutes. During that time, each person sees a series of events in his or her own future -- some good, some bad, some apparently nonexistent. As people begin to piece together their visions on a worldwide website, Mark and Demetri use the information to try to pinpoint the cause of the blackout, and people are still trying to determine whether destiny can be changed, and what effect those changes may have on others.
Invasion
What if natural disasters were alien smokescreens designed to mask something far more ominous? When a hurricane threatens a small town in Florida, park ranger Russell Poole's young daughter is the only one to see small lights floating towards the water, seemingly unaffected by the vicious winds. At the time, he thinks nothing of her claim, but begins to suspect something may be amiss when his missing ex-wife is found, with no memory of what happened during the storm. In the aftermath of the storm, water-based creatures infiltrate the town and take over the bodies of the town's residents through a cloning process.
V (2009)
Earth has its first encounter with an extraterrestrial race. Calling themselves the Visitors and promoting peace, they seem to be friendly, but their congeniality may be a cover for a malevolent agenda. Erica (Elizabeth Mitchell), an FBI agent, discovers a secret about the aliens that threatens the lives of Earthlings, including her teenage son, who sees them as a sign of hope. Meanwhile, Father Jack (Joel Gretsch), already questioning his faith when the Visitors arrive, seeks answers outside his church and finds other dissidents who believe the Vs are not what they claim to be. The ABC series is billed as a reimagining of a 1980s miniseries by the same name.
Hannibal
Gifted criminal profiler Will Graham has a unique way of thinking that allows him to empathize with anyone, including psychopaths. But while helping the FBI pursue a particularly complicated serial killer, he decides he could use some help and enlists the brilliant psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter. The two form a partnership and it seems that there is no villain they can't catch together, but Lecter harbors a dark secret. His own brilliant mind has gone to the dark side and he has more in common with the criminals they hunt than Will could possibly imagine.
Anne with an E
This reimagining of the classic book and film is a coming-of-age story about a young orphan who is seeking love, acceptance and her place in the world. Amybeth McNulty stars as Anne, a 13-year-old who has endured an abusive childhood in orphanages and the homes of strangers. In the late 1890s, Anne is mistakenly sent to live with aging siblings, Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, who live on Prince Edward Island. Anne, who proves to be uniquely spirited, imaginative and smart, transforms the lives of Marilla, Matthew and everyone else in their small town.
Pitch
Talented baseball pitcher Ginny Baker immediately rises to fame when she is called up by the San Diego Padres and becomes the first woman in Major League Baseball. She immediately sets in on the task of proving herself to her teammates, starting with team captain and catcher Mike Lawson. The two share an immediate chemistry, putting Mike in the middle of tensions between the beautiful new player and certain teammates who don't appreciate a woman out on the mound. Not all of her fellow Padres are so averse to change, with center fielder Blip Sanders providing support through her journey.
Colony
In the not-too-distant future, Los Angeles has been invaded and occupied by outside forces, causing a rift between the city's residents; some have collaborated with the occupation, while others are rebelling and suffering the consequences that come with that choice. Former FBI agent Will Bowman and his wife, Katie, must consider their familial obligations when making their decision because they were separated from their son, Bram, during the invasion. Proxy Snyder, a cunning and powerful leader within the occupational government, offers Will the opportunity to get Bram back if he works with the invading faction. Will's decision doesn't sit well with Katie, but the couple risk their lives -- and their relationship -- to protect their family.
Life Unexpected
After 15 years of being with different families in Oregon's foster-care system, Lux decides to try her luck as an emancipated minor. As she navigates the legal system in pursuit of that goal, she encounters her birth father, bar owner Nate "Baze" Bazile, living like an aging frat boy with two slacker roommates. He is stunned to learn that he has a teenage daughter and introduces Lux to her mother, radio personality Cate Cassidy, who is sad to learn her daughter has grown up in foster care but thrilled to meet and get to know the girl. She has plenty of opportunity to get acquainted when the judge decides Lux isn't ready to be emancipated and grants temporary custody to her birth parents.
Crisis
A vengeful mastermind ambushes a schoolbus carrying the children of Washington, D.C.'s, elite, abducting the children and their chaperons, and creating a national crisis. The powerful parents -- including the president himself -- find themselves at the mercy of the abductor with nowhere to turn, creating an unthinkable situation that puts the entire nation at risk. As the authorities work to rescue the children, the parents discover how far they are willing to go to protect the people they love.
Emerald City
When a tornado transports Dorothy Gale from Lucas, Kansas, to the faraway land of Oz, her arrival sets in motion a prophecy about a disastrous event known as The Beast Forever and strikes fear into the land's almighty ruler, the Wizard. On her quest to meet the Wizard in Emerald City, Dorothy encounters witches, an amnesiac soldier, a sheltered little boy and many more mysterious beings who will ultimately shape the future of Oz and Dorothy's place in it.
A Story of Healing, Forgiveness, Adversity, Wisdom, and Improvement
This is the story of a young man who needed to find where he belonged. A man who felt out of place everywhere he was until he realized what his life was missing. He had to reinvent himself several times before he got it right, but he eventually *did* find his peace. His story is as true as it needs to be for others to benefit and learn from his experience.
It’s also the story, to one degree or another, of everyone who has found themselves in a similar situation.
I hope this helps all of them. Hold on. Things will work out for you.
His name is not important. What his story can teach others is.
Although he did not at first realize it, he was born into a broken and abusive household. His parents never really meant to harm him -- but, as is so often the case, well-intentioned people often hurt the ones closest to them not out of malice, but simply because they are flawed. His mother, to be precise, was the product of a severely abusive home, herself. She also had had a major head injury and, probably, a variety of mental illnesses. Thus, although quite clearly very well-intentioned, his mother often was an extremely anxious, alarmist, and controlling woman. After the young man had become more mature, he would realize that his mother’s behavior was caused not by her being evil, but simply by the fact that she had been quite damaged.
Her husband, the young man’s father, was almost completely dominated by his mother. This was not because the young man’s father lacked a spine or courage or sense (in later years, the man would recognize that his father had all of these virtues and many more in abundance), but rather because his father was not terribly wealthy, and his mother, for the most part, owned most of his family’s money. Throughout their troubled and often horrid marriage, the young man’s parents were constantly fighting, mostly about money. Beyond that, though, his mother was actually fighting for stability and control -- something that, for a person with serious mental health issues, was ultimately very important.
This domination by his mother led to some very unhealthy dynamics in his household.
The young man had an elder brother and a younger sister.
His brother went on to become very ambitious, headstrong, tough, and dedicated. Despite this, his brother had some serious flaws. Perhaps because of this brother’s good qualities, his brother was also often very judgmental, arrogant, and, on occasion, cruel. The young man had, through the stupidities and insecurities of youth, done serious harm to this brother on occasion, and he and this brother fought often and bitterly. Although there was often intense hostility and sibling rivalry between the young man and this brother, this brother would also go on to do quite well, eventually being accepted into a prestigious college after a superb high school career. When he thought back on his early life, the young man would later realize that his brother’s toughness and drive probably came from the severe adversity his brother had had to go through in the absence of caring and attentive parents. The young man would thus eventually come to view his brother with a combination of respect and admiration, and would beg forgiveness from this brother.
The young man’s younger sister did not have the elder brother’s drive and ambition, but had also gone on to make a life for himself. The young man was glad that his siblings had made lives for themselves.
The young man’s own life turned out to be far more troubled.
Although there was never much point in rebelling against the authority and power of his two parents, the young man would spend most of his adolescence fighting a hopeless battle against their unfair rules and restrictions. Not only were these rules and restrictions damaging and dangerous, but they were also so extremely unfair.
Even as a youth, the young man knew that rebellion was ultimately futile. His parents simply had all the power and money, and he had no legal right to insist that they behave fairly or to request that they justify their behavior. Still, he rebelled anyway, if only because his parents’ behavior was so outrageous that it almost demanded rebellion. In the end, he defied his parents simply because not doing so would have made him submissive psychologically.
Perhaps because of this, the young man had a very troubled adolescence. He would often skip classes, run away from home for significant periods of time, and neglect his homework. He was also diagnosed with clinical depression around age 15, and his life at home quickly deteriorated into chaos. As his behavior and mental health declined, his mother’s behavior became more and more histrionic, intense, controlling, domineering, and bullying. These problems led him to do very poorly in school, and he would spend the later years of his adolescence just surviving one crisis or another. Although he would eventually graduate from high school, his performance had been very mediocre, and he had lost a lot of potential to these problems.
Due to these and related issues, the young man would spend most of this adolescence and 20′s simply coasting through life, jumping from one menial job to the next while taking a very light load of college courses. Far too much of his life was spent “just getting by”, without a clear idea of what a meaningful or happy life would be like or a clear idea of how to create such a life.
As it turned out, in addition to his troubled childhood, the young man also had another, insidious problem that prevented him from gaining a strong sense of meaning or purpose from any particular career path or area of study.
Perhaps because of his unusually troubled childhood and life, the young man had, very unfortunately and unwisely, become a “deep thinker”. Although he recognized that this had certain great advantages in helping him think clearly and carefully, he also had a certain odd indifference and apathy towards many of the things his peers and friends found interesting. It wasn’t that he could claim that the things his peers wanted in life were bad -- they just were missing something. It wasn't as though status, money, sex, fun, and prestige were bad -- it was just that the young man was searching for something else.
This would cause the young man a great degree of trouble during his adolescence and early adulthood. Not only would he never feel a strong attraction to any particular area of study, but he would often avoid socializing and interacting with his peers due to this odd feeling that something was profoundly missing from these social events.
It was due to this and similar problems that the young man would ultimately waste his 20's. Before he knew it, he was on the cusp of his 32nd birthday, with few accomplishments to show for it and very few interests. The man often wondered why he was so indifferent toward most of the world and the people and things in it. His life had become a pathetic, apathetic, grey shell of an existence. Would this be the rest of his life, drifting aimlessly from one distraction to the next without any real profound sense of meaning or direction? He hoped not, and because there was still hope that this would not always be the case, he continued surviving -- but never living. In a fit of desperation, he turned toward contemplation of his problems and philosophy as both a consolation and a self-diagnosis.
And that's when it happened. He suddenly had an epiphany. That's when everything changed.
He realized in a sudden flash of insight what his life had been missing. Finally, after so many years of aimless searching, he had his answers. Things finally made sense.
He had been contemplating the many problems he had gone through in his life when it struck him. Without quite knowing what had prompted him to this realization, he slowly came to a conclusion about what his life had been missing -- the something missing that he had never found.
It was simply faith in humanity.
This point needs to be clarified. For most of his life, the young man had been a die-hard pessimist. This was not because he considered pessimism to be edgy or intellectual or cool, but rather because so much of what others deemed so deserving of worship was, ultimately, not what they thought it was. For some people in the young man's life, they had preached the value of their religious beliefs and devotion to God. For others, patriotism and nationalism were their bedrock. Still others simply tried to live as happy and pleasurable a life as possible, thinking these goals were the main reasons for the majority of human civilization and progress. And yet others claimed that he should help his fellow man.
But the young man had seen through each of these. When it came to religion, the young man felt he had very strong reasons to be an atheist. When it came to patriotism, he knew that, while serving other individual people might be worthwhile, his country had done horrible things in the name of national pride, prestige, and power. And, oddly enough, even living life for the pleasure and happiness that one could get from it rang hollow. Happiness, he had realized, was not a result of pleasurable, exciting, or comfortable surroundings. Happiness, instead, was a byproduct of living a good life that one was content with. Perhaps some people could live life happily with only creature comforts, fun, and hedonistic pleasures. However, the young man and most of the human race required something more -- a sense of meaning. He realized that all the luxury, fun, and free time in the world would not satisfy him. At least, not by themselves.
It was service to humanity that appealed to the young man the most -- but eventually it, too, was promptly dismissed. The young man had, once upon a time, been idealistic. He had earnestly believed that the world could be saved -- if only enough people combine their efforts behind a common cause and work toward furthering that cause.
Pessimism and experience would eventually leave the young man disillusioned from this dream. Although many people in the world had shown him the potential for good in human behavior, it had always seemed to him that humanity's potential for immorality was far greater. Furthermore, when people were charitable or generous toward strangers, it was often due to an underlying assumption that the stranger was, in general, someone fundamentally good and worth helping – which, the young man reflected, was not necessarily true, by many people’s standards of the word “good”. Add to this the fact that people had a right to their own opinions and very frequently chose to believe senseless or irrational things or make senseless or irrational choices. Bettering the world was, the young man reflected, a very hard thing to do on any notable scale.
However, in a sudden moment of clarity, the young man saw the flaw in his previous beliefs. Although large scale change might be too hard of a thing to hope for (large scale changes were usually caused by large numbers of people mobilizing), the young man saw a quite different and far more reliable and compelling reason for morality. On the level of individuals¸ a great deal of good could be done. As the young man thought about this more and more, he realized that his biggest regrets in life were the times where he had hurt others out of his own insecurities, and that the proudest moments of his life were the instances where he had encouraged or helped others. Helping other individuals on a day-by-day basis, the young man realized, was worth the effort. For some strange reason, the young man had gotten the foolish and pessimistic idea into his head that only large scale changes in humanity mattered – that, since society at large wasn’t going anywhere, it was ultimately pointless to try to change things.
Now, though, the young man saw the error of his ways. He had a new purpose in life, and a new reason to be the best person he could be, and it had nothing to do with believing that human beings were all God’s special snowflakes, or with denying the hard truths of this world. Going forward, the young man would pay attention to the good that could be done in the world, from the daily decencies and kindnesses toward the people in his life, to the small acts of humanity and generosity he could accomplish. He felt, for the first time in a long time, like he was moving forward and like he had a purpose worth working toward and fighting for.
It was true that he had lost a lot of time.
But he would catch up, he realized.
could you please do a break down of all the tags you use and why? I think they're so cool
Thanks! I actually answered a similar ask a few months ago, but it doesn’t really break down who each of the tags are for, so I’ll do that here, as well as listing where each of the tags come from. Most of them are song lyrics, either directly from the song or a condensed variation of several lines. Often the whole song fits the character in question, but sometimes just the one line stuck out as fitting.
This got a lot longer than I was expecting it to, so I’m going to put it under a cut.
First the individual character tags:
“this precious child” is for Luke. I actually borrowed that one from @littlesparklight and got the idea to use personalized tags for characters and relationships from her too.
“the ashes call my name” is for Vader. It’s from Point of No Return by Starset. A good portion of my tags are from Starset songs. Their music just fits Star Wars so well.
“what’s your life without a cause” is Leia’s tag. It’s from The Soldier by Lacey Sturm.
“I’m not an easy target” is Han’s. It’s from Born Again by Thousand Foot Krutch. It’s meant to be a reference to how he likes to pretend he’s all hard and doesn’t have a bleeding heart.
“one step closer to destiny” is for Anakin. It’s a slight variation on a line from Is Your Love Strong Enough? by Bryan Ferry. The full line is “Just one step at a time and closer to destiny.”
“searching for a new hope” is for Obi-Wan. It’s from A New Hope by Broken Iris. The title itself is of course fitting, and really the whole song fits the PT trio, and I used other lines from it for other tags too, but this line in particular fits Obi-Wan and his whole tragic life. After Qui-Gon, he looks to Anakin to be his hope, and then to Luke.
“angels should never touch ground” is for Padmé, and it’s from Beautiful Girl, also by Broken Iris. This whole song fits Padmé and Anakin, both during the ten year separation between TPM and AOTC, and also after ROTS.
“you can’t fight the friction” is for Piett. It’s from Friction by Imagine Dragons.
“we could be heroes” is Wedge’s tag. It’s from Heroes by Zayde Wolf. The song really fits his dedication to the Alliance and everything it stands for.
I don’t use this one much, but “shooting star” is for Biggs. I can’t actually remember where this one came from. I thought it was some variant of one of his lines to Luke, but it might actually be something I picked up from a fanfic somewhere, I don’t actually remember. I do know I had it before @azalea-scroggs used it in Black Squadron, so it wasn’t that fic. We probably got it from the same place, haha.
I use “emperor idiot” for Palpatine, and that’s just spite.
“stardust in her eyes” is Jyn’s. It’s from Galen’s nickname for her, “Stardust.” I just made a phrase from it.
“more than words and guns” is for Veers. I think @th3rm0pyl43 suggested that one for me. I think it’s from a song, but I don’t know which one.
“oh don’t you see that lonesome dove” is for Ahsoka. It’s from 10,000 Miles by Mary Chapin Carpenter. It’s the song from Fly Away Home, one of my favorite childhood movies, and it never fails to make me cry. This is one of those songs where the whole song doesn’t really fit, just the one line, and it’s more aimed at Rebels!Ahsoka than TCW.
Now onto the relationship tags:
“you’re my dark star” is for Luke and Vader/Anakin. It’s from Dark On Me by Starset. I actually wrote a post that breaks down how and why that song fits them so well. I’ll reblog it when I’m done with this post.
“echoes of a promise” is for Luke and Padmé. It’s from You’re Not Alone by Lacey Sturm. It’s kind of about how Vader sees echoes of Padmé in Luke, and how Luke’s faith in his father is a mirror of Padmé’s faith in her husband.
“there’s a memory of how i used to be” I use for posts paralleling Vader and Anakin. It’s the first line from Point of No Return by Starset, the same song that Vader’s tag is from.
“brothers in wings” is for Luke and Wedge. It’s a play on words for “brothers in arms,” since they’re wingmates.
“they’ll never stop us” is for Luke and Biggs, and that one is a piece of Biggs’s dialogue.
“bound by fire and ice” is for Luke and Han. It’s just a phrase I came up with, referencing how their bond is sealing in fire (all the battles they’ve fought together) and ice (the events on Hoth).
“do you still believe in one another” is for Luke and Leia, and it’s from Hey Brother by Avicii (though I prefer the cover by RUNAGROUND).
“do you still believe in love I wonder” is for Leia and Han, also from Hey Brother. I purposely used matching lines for these two tags, because of how the trio’s relationships are all tied up together, and the song really fits the whole trio.
“dumpster diving” is my tag for the OT trio (+Chewie), and it’s a reference to the trash compactor, and finding treasure (their friendship) in unexpected places.
“he was a good friend” and “broken brothers” are both tags for Anakin and Obi-Wan, and it depends on the content for which tag I use. The first one is from Obi-Wan’s line to Luke in his hut in ANH.
“in the light of all the stars aligned” is for Anakin and Padmé. It’s from Telescope by Starset. It’s also kind of a play on Across the Stars.
“to your grave I spoke” is for Vader and Padmé. It’s also from A New Hope by Broken Iris, like Obi-Wan’s tag.
“you went dark on me” is for Vader and Obi-Wan. Like Luke and Vader’s tag, it’s from Dark On Me by Starset.
“I’ll use you as a warning sign” is for Anakin and Ahsoka. It’s from I Found by Amber Run. Most of the song doesn’t really fit, but that line seemed to.
“but I’m losing this and I’m losing you” is for Anakin/Vader and Ahsoka. It’s from Broken Pieces by Apocalyptica Feat. Lacey Sturm. It’s for Anakin when Ahsoka leaves the Jedi order and for Ahsoka after she realizes exactly who Vader is.
Whew! That’s a lot of tags, haha.
Spoiler Talk About SPN’s Last 7
Argh. I’ve been reading spoilers on SpoilerTV and I am getting frustrated with the spn writers again (I’ve been frustrated with the whole world at this point of the year, but that’s another matter). The synopsis of episodes 15x14 - 15x17 are all out so far on SpoilerTV. I’m going to discuss those below so you may want to read the synopsis for those episodes, otherwise you may be confused by this post (I can clarify though if people rather message me or @ me ).
Let’s dive in:
15x14/Tonight’s episode should be a nice Team Free Will 2.0 episode - I hear they’ll be celebrating every major holiday at once - from the looks of it: their birthdays, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I sense a lot of fun coming and sweet scenes. I dig it.
15x15 should hopefully be a good main arc episode involving Amara (are they going to ask her if they can kill her so they can kill her brother though? lol - I kid). It’s also going to be fun seeing Cas and Jack team up on a case (More like Awesome! - cause we haven’t seen that yet, just heard about it).
15x16 should at least be a decent Winchester Bro episode - childhood flashbacks are usually interesting.
And then we get to 15x17 where Sam and Cas team up on research while Dean and Jack road trip to do the last ritual thing Jack needs to do in order to kill Chuck. Okay, I think this sounds great. On its own I love the idea. And apparently Sam and Cas disagree with what Dean and Jack go off to do, I’m guessing because it likely puts Jack at great risk (though this whole thing is risky period) and that’s so perfectly them. Sam and Cas would be the ones to want to protect Jack, while Dean goes “the kid’s got to do what the kid’s got to do”). And Dean and Jack certainly need to talk more. I’m also up for more Sam and Cas just to remind people Sam is Cas’ friend too. Sharing is caring. :P
But who’s willing to bet with me that after Cas and Dean get their episodes with Jack, Sam gets nothing except maybe a scene or two w/Jack? Me! Me! Who’s with me?
Cas apparently isn’t in 15x18 (people think he’ll die but I’m not convinced it’ll be before 15x19 - if he does die at all - or maybe it’s just another a temporary death). If he’s missing, and it’s not cause he died, chances are Jack won’t be in that episode either (if someone knows whether Alex was filming when Misha wasn’t, please let me know!) So if that’s the case and Jack isn’t in the episode either, then that means there’s no way Sam’s getting his own episode story with Jack like Dean and Cas did. (I’m not looking forward to the synopsis for this episode).
There is no way 15x19 and 15x20 are going to dedicate time to Sam being alone with Jack for more than 5 minutes, if that. 15x19 is supposed to be like a season finale, and 15x20 is of course the series finale. Those are going to be Team Free Will 2.0 and Winchester brother focused (rightly so!). They aren’t going to dedicate a ton of time to the show’s two-character relationships besides Dean and Sam’s.
So if Sam and Jack don’t have a plot in the 15x18 episode, that’s basically it, and that bothers me a lot because it’s unbalanced. Both Cas and Dean have recognized the bond Sam and Jack share several times (and Lucifer was jealous of it!). It’s different from Cas’ relationship with him (the adoptive dad who’s been on his team even before he was born) and his with Dean’s (the adoptive dad who he sneaked up on/won over). Sam really relates with Jack, and was the only person really there for him when he was just born (at no fault to Cas since he was dead and couldn’t help that). Time and time we’ve been shown they have a special connection.
But ever since mid-season 14 (some would argue earlier) Sam and Jack’s relationship has been really pushed aside and it’s just not fair. I’ve been a Dean girl ever since I was 12 (that was a long time ago btw) but I share a lot of personality/characteristics with Sam so I have this need for him to have his fair share - especially when we’re talking about a relationship that has been established so beautifully (they ripped my heart out when Jack died the 1st time in 14x08 and was kidnapped in 14x09 - the echoey yelling each other’s names jeez help me!).
The hug is really the only juicy Sam and Jack scene we’ve had this season so far and that wouldn’t be such a huge issue if it didn’t look like that would be their best scene this season (it was awesome, but where’s the bonding?). I hope all is not as it seems, but I don’t have much faith in the writers being fair, so I am not holding my breath while I pray to be wrong in my theory.
Anyway, I just needed to vent my concerns a bit. I’m on my way of tumblr now. Can’t watch tonight’s episode until tomorrow, but I’ll be back later to collect gifs anyway, before they get hard to find. Next week I should be live watching and posting on tumblr during it.
