I do think Blazing Saddles handled its one depiction of native americans very poorly, and the full extent of its representation of chinese workers on the railroad is they were literally just there. not even one single speaking line. unclear if this is worse or better than the redface.
it's fucking phenomenal at lampooning antiblack racism though. extremely blatant, extremely funny satire, which is constantly and loudly saying "racism is the philosophy of the terminally stupid at best and morally depraved at worst, and we should all be pointing and laughing at them 24/7"
plus the main character is a heroic black man who has to navigate a whole lot of bullshit but is constantly smirking at the extraordinarily stupid racists and inviting the audience into the joke. the one heroic white character is a guy who was suicidally depressed until he met the protagonist and they just instantly became buds, and he's firmly in a supporting role the whole time and happy to be there. the protagonist saves the day with the help of his black friends from the railroad, and uses the position of power he was given to uplift not only those friends, but all the railroad workers of other minorities too, in an explicit show of solidarity.
anyone saying "Blazing Saddles is racist" had better be talking about its treatment of non-black minorities. it had better not be such superficial takes as "oh but they say the n-word all the time" or "they have nazis and the kkk in there!" because goddamn if that's the full extent of your critique I very seriously suggest you read up on media analysis. there is too much going over your head, you need to learn to recognize satire.

This is for the 5 other people on here who also have Watch Dogs 2 brainworms and are 👀😳 about Wrench.
Got back on a WD2 kick recently and did some art for a fic I've been picking at since march. Mainly just drew it to embed in a chapter but it came out nice enough that I wanted to put it somewhere.
(Side note on something I noticed while drawing this: I'm not fully convinced that all of Wrench's tattoos are real tattoos. A lot of them definitely are, but a bunch of them actually look like they're drawn on with sharpie, especially the ones on his torso. It would be very in character for him to have doodled all over himself before Swelter Skelter so I'm choosing to believe it, lmao)
Also this is cropped to hell so Tumblr doesn't execute me via firing squad but if you wanna see the full version (he's fully clothed, but he's 'going camping' if you catch my drift), you may find it helpful to know that my Ao3 username is also catsharky 😏 (it's at the very end of ch 3 I love you pls don't judge my writing too harshly goodbye)

i am in the silliest goofiest of all moods so i decided to take my top 3 ice creams of this summer and share with you which characters they remind me of the most. let me know if you think you are sillier and/or goofier by sending me your favourite ice cream
at number 3 we have Arpeggio as Haagen-Dazs Dulce de Leche, and specifically the mini tub that comes in a box of four flavours. despite the flavour's Latin American roots, i think Arpeggio would savour it because he likes to indulge in different cultures as a certified genius. kinda sophisticated like him, and just like his time in the game, short and sweet
number 2 is a cool remix of a childhood classic: blondie caramel Maxibon with the waffle. I've paired it with Rajan because the packaging is orange, duh but also because it has two different sides. the waffle is Rajan's regal facade, appealing to Westerners, whereas the ice cream bar side is rough and rocky just like the predator within
the Kinder Bueno ice cream is paired with Carmelita and takes the number one spot this summer. is this coupling based on personal bias? maybe! the flavours here are so nostalgic and reimagined into ice cream form perfectly. the cone and hardened chocolate on top form a tough exterior but inside the core is soft and rich, just like Carmelita herself. 10/10 masterpiece

thinking about the time i said 'i think it would be quite endearing if megatron was actually kind of not great at poetry but did it anyway because he likes it, because then him picking it back up again in LL etc is less about his being An Artist TM and more about like. not caring about being great at stuff now he's just a guy or whatever' and a bunch of people got. mad? because 'there's no such THING as bad poetry, how dare you' and all sorts of stuff? anyway i still stand by it. megatron being a poet is far, far more interesting if he's not a good poet, literally just in the sense that it makes his insistence on continuing to do it a much better character note than if he's doing something he's casually good at.

Share with us your Shiera headcanons please 🙏
since shiera is such a nothing character who just happens to have a really cool premise i do have a lot because you can just make stuff up (apart from my goofy shiera hightower theory). so here’s a big ol list under the cut:
-raised primarily by her half brother daeron since her mother died having her and her father died when she was an infant and seeing as how her mom had dubious origins (maybe from lys but no family, maybe a witch) she had literally nowhere else to go. Also because as a GIRL bastard she was just less of a threat. Because she’s just there on the goodwill of her brother the king, internalized from a young age that the only way to get what she wanted was to be extremely self-interested and perform her part very well.
-spent most of her childhood in the library reading political theory and trying to Learn Real Magic to get closer to her mother. fixation on appearance and performance led to her picking glamour magicks as her primary field of study, which is also what she heard they’re into in Lys.
-Spent a lot of time with Aerys I as a result because they had similar special interests and his general disinterest in women meant he was one of the few people who was not Weird to her as a teenager so they just stayed research buddies.
-Everyone at court’s preoccupation with her physical appearance from a weirdly young age (thank u george rr martin very normal and cool) led to teenage shiera just deciding she can say or do pretty much whatever she wants within the confines of the social role she’s been assigned. None of it matters unless she wants it to so the worst thing she can be is bored.
-So as a result of that she manipulates people when she gets bored but can you blame her if it’s the only way to get what she wants as a bastard and they’re probably not listening to what she has to say anyways and also making people fight is really entertaining?
-Not being taken seriously as a bastard AND a girl helps her realize that the entire game of thrones is in fact a made up game—one she enjoys her and her loved ones winning, but not something to stake her whole personhood in—and her family are not literal dragons or serious people.
-Unlike the other great bastards shiera is not wrapped up in the existential identity crisis about whether or not she is a True Targaryen because she’s never been interested in being anyone other than herself. Terminally bored whenever Bloodraven or Aegor or Daemon start doing this.
-Blackfyre rébellion happened when she was sixteen so of course she backed Daeron over her annoying other brother. Definitely made Bloodraven’s arrows that took him and his kids out.
-the blood magic thing WAS true. shiera was maybe not as practiced in it as her notable sisterniece danelle lothston but she did partake
-Eventually fell out with Bloodraven because it was really fun at first to be cooking up schemes nonstop to hold the realm down under Aerys, but then she realized that’s the only thing he wanted to do for the entire rest of his life. and the game is just going to repeat itself over and over again so she got out of there because that’s soooooo critically boring and there are other things in the world.
-accelerationist in that she does not believe things can actually get better for people under a targaryen king unless circumstances get bad enough that the people rise up and take back power, but not in the sense that she’s interested in being the one sparking that. She just has very little faith in the system at large.
-i don’t think she’s quaithe but definitely she spent the rest of her life travelling learning new magic and stuff. Not alive by the main series but no known records of death, she just sort of fell off the map eventually.

So there's this story about a person who was born and raised to despise each and every human being ever born into the world. The entire reason for his existence—the reasons for all of his ancestors' existences throughout history—is to enact vengeance on humanity for their crimes.
Then that vengeful being, despite his best attempts not to, befriends a human man. He finds himself caring for one human and that human's younger brother, finds himself becoming part of their family, even though it goes against everything he is and is supposed to be. He finds himself loving these two people so deeply that it rewrites his whole worldview—changes him from a vengeful monster into something that hopes dearly for humanity's redemption and begs his father not to let them be destroyed.
It's a story about the power of understanding and connection, a story about learning to believe in the human potential to be good. And that story starts with one remarkable man who unknowingly manages to win the love of the personification of nature's vengeance in human skin.
The kicker is—that one man that befriends the monster? Who rewrites the vengeful being's whole worldview just by being beside him? He kinda fucking sucks, actually.

For fannfic writer asks:
Do you ever read your own writing for fun?
If you could erase any three tropes from existence, what would they be?
Hello! And thank you for the questions :)
Do you ever read your own writing for fun?
YES. Absolutely 100% yes! I write for myself and my own enjoyment first and foremost; I know what I like and how I like it, so it only makes sense that I enjoy reading my works, haha! It's a lot of fun!
If you could erase any three tropes from existence, what would they be?
This is a hard one to answer, because I'm a strong believer in the fact that there's no capital sins in writing -- as long as the writer knows what they're doing, anything and everything can become the foundation for a wonderful, poignant story.
That being said... there are some common tropes (particularly in romances) I'm not too fond of. Love triangles are one of those (they mostly seem childish to me, honestly), and I also don't really enjoy love at first sight (attraction yes, interest yes, but love? at first sight? definitely not my thing!). Contrary to popular taste, I'm not a big fan of enemies-to-lovers, unless there's an extensive 'friends' phase in between. So yeah, if I had to pick: love triangles, love at first sight, enemies-to-lovers. :)
Thanks again for the questions, these were a lot of fun to answer!

What food(s) does your ocs enjoy? Any particular favorites, and why?
send me questions you have about my character!
As a snake metahuman, meat is essential to Copperhead's diet though he also enjoys fruit for it's natural sweetness! Bananas, figs, apricots - anything soft and easily eaten is both a delicious treat and quick energy booster during lean periods when he's had to lie in wait for particularly skittish targets. Meals were a rarity as a full belly makes for slow reaction times but as his relationship with @question-marked developed, Copperhead's tried (and enjoyed!) new things in his diet, especially pasta.
Like his namesake, Copperhead enjoys poultry but is partial to eggs and fish too. One thing he does miss however is the street food from Arizona what with having been born there. You can buy just about anything in Gotham if you know who to ask but good luck finding some half-decent tameles.
