A very special date night

ok, here it finally is! I’m sorry about the delay but I got it finished and I’m actually pretty nervous to post this but here goes, I hope you all enjoy it <3333

Finally.. It was date night. EJ and Gina couldn’t be more hyped to finally get their time together. 

Due to busy schedules (EJ in college and Gina with highschool, theater, etc.), time alone just got cut shorter and shorter. They decided enough was enough and planned for one day a month where they could both simply be together but of course, to make things a bit more interesting, one of them would choose the location while the other got to choose the meal or place to eat. 

This month, EJ was choosing where they’d go but the thing is… Gina truly had no clue what he could be planning. Usually, he’d drop a huge obvious hint but assume he didn’t just reveal but this time around, no hints or anything. 

The day finally came, a bright Friday afternoon. The sunlight beamed through Gina’s window as she yawned while stretching her arms out. Still in the process of waking up, she suddenly heard a buzz come from her phone.  

Hey, G. Sorry, I couldn't text sooner! I’m at the zoo with Big Red so I won’t be home most of today. Enjoy some of the breakfast saved in the fridge and get your game face ready for tonight with my cuz ;) 

Before Gina could respond, a second message came in putting a stop to all her suspicions.

A smile grew on her face as she headed to the door and found EJ waiting outside beside his car. He was leaning against it, specifically by the passenger side, most likely waiting for Gina to arrive so he could open the door for her like the incredible sweet boyfriend he is. “So, am I still not allowed to ask questions?” she joked once they were both sitting inside the car. 

“I mean, of course but this is gonna be an interesting date and honestly I’m curious to see your reaction without any ideas..” he explained as they drove. Gina raised an eyebrow but kept her thoughts to herself. While they sat in a comfortable silence, she started to try and contemplate where they could be going. The biggest hint she had was Ashlyn’s text but even then, with how vague it was, she still remained puzzled. 

Just then when they arrived, all that curiosity disappeared from her mind and she finally realized what she meant by getting her game face ready. They were about to play Laser Tag. 

As they walked in, she couldn’t help but already feel her adrenaline start to rush. She finally realized what Ash meant when she said to get her game face ready and Gina was going to do just that. 

The teams were selected by random and EJ already had their names filled out on the form so now all they had to do was wait for the announcer to begin calling out names. Gina and EJ anxiously but even more excitedly stood waiting for the announcement to come already with their hands interlocked. 

As they stood waiting, EJ leaned over to whisper something into Gina’s ear sending a chill down her back. “Just know, that if we’re on a different teams and I beat you, I will like you just the same as I do at this moment.” 

Gina scoffed at the comment and looked him dead in the eye, trying to stifle her laughter. “Don’t try to intimidate me, babe.. It’s not gonna change anything, I got my game face on now and it stays till I win.” 

He jokingly rolled his eyes at the snarky reply. Before he could respond, the announcer finally came on. 

“Ok ok ok, let’s do this! So excited to kick-off the first laser tag game of the day and as most of you already know how this goes, blah blah blah be safe. Once you’re hit, you’re done for a good ten minutes. Now anyways, now back to teams..” he quickly rambled. 

Gina glanced over at EJ who just gently squeezed her hand while they expectantly waited to hear the team names. 

“Alrighty then, let’s begin… for team red, EJ Caswell…” he started, considering the teams only consisted of six players for this round, it didn’t take long to name all the players and before they knew it, it was already time for the blue team. 

Since Gina’s name wasn’t called out for the red team, it was obvious she’d be a part of the blue team meaning that they were going to go against each other. To be honest, the idea of being able to hold the win over the other’s head enticed them both.. A lot more than they liked to admit.

The teams began to disperse and head to the main room for setting up. While in there, this time EJ shot a glance at Gina, who was zipping up her dark blue vest. She turned for a second to wink at him before returning her attention back to her team. 

EJ did the same and not too long after, the whispers and small talk went silent as everyone’s laser guns began beeping and flashing most likely because they were being turned on while the lights dimmed down. The announcer came on one last time soon after.  

“Players, prep time is over… the doors to the laser tag area are now unlocked and you may enter. Let the games begin.” 

Everyone immediately separated and went to find hiding spots. Gina immediately knew the second level was the place she needed to be. As she navigated through the dark space, something felt off… almost as if she felt a presence following behind her. 

“It’s probably just your nerves, don’t break focus”, Gina muttered under her breath. Soon enough, she began to turn a corner, that feeling came back again. She immediately began dashing and ended up finding a small pitch dark corner to hide in right by the stairs she was finding to the second level in the first place. 

Just as Gina thought, once she slipped behind the corner someone came not long after and it didn’t surprise her one bit who it was. 

“Aw man, I lost her.” EJ groaned in frustration. Gina bit the inside of her cheek to contain her laughter at seeing the poor green eyed boy mope. 

The fun ended though as he started to explore the area and he began getting dangerously close to her corner so she did the only reasonable thing a person would do if they felt threatened. 

While his back was turned, she took the opportunity and leaped onto his back. He immediately toppled over and Gina had the upper hand for the moment. Gina clapped her hand over his mouth before he could start yelling for help. 

“Shhh.. don’t fight it.” she whispered softly leaning in closer. Now she hadn’t planned for this part of the plan but he was right there.. one little peck wouldn’t do anything. 

As she slowly removed her hand from on top of his mouth, her body went into shock when he went in for the kiss. She didn’t even think twice once her brain started to function again and reciprocated. 

Her hand gently released its tight grip on the gun and Gina’s focus finally broke. They broke apart after about 30 seconds to take a breath but then Gina heard something that made her blood run cold. 

Her vest was beeping and so was her gun. 

She looked at EJ, who had a satisfied smirk resting on his face. “I thought you knew this, G. I play to win.” He said so while holding his red glowing gun up. 

Gina, shocked and possibly just a bit impressed, remained speechless. He played her at her own game and won?! Gina wasn’t gonna let this go, there was still a chance and she wasn’t going to waste it. 

In the ten minutes that Gina was out, EJ knew she would be out to get him and only him. He played an extremely dangerous move by playing Gina like that but it’s obviously what she was planning for him so if anything, at least she’ll know now that he knows most of the tricks up her sleeve. 

What scares him though is what she has left… 

Within a couple seconds, he manages to find one of his teammates and the two stuck together for a couple minutes. They found a good spot and chilled for a second after all the navigating and running. 

“So, the girl that’s currently out.. She’s your girlfriend, right?” the boy said, he looked around 14-15 but EJ couldn’t exactly tell.

“Yep and once she’s back in, we’re gonna need to hide really well.” he warned, followed by a chuckle. “You really think she’s gonna be that furious?” 

Poor kid. He really doesn’t know what she’s capable of, he thought to himself. “Oh yeah, she’s gonna be infuriated. Don’t worry though, she’s probably gonna come for me only. We’re just super competitive like that. It runs in our blood.” 

EJ glanced back to see the kid terrified. “O..k.” he let out. The conversation didn’t go much further but at least before they split off, EJ did manage to get across the fact that he was only joking. 

After a while of walking, he checked his watch and realized that Gina would be out any second. Just as he thought, not a minute after checking the time, a beep came from the speakers signaling that a player would be entering the game.. It was about to get a whole lot more dangerous than before. 

Once she was out, Gina knew exactly what EJ would be thinking.. He knew that he was her main target and that’s what he needed to get out of his head. 

So, Gina put her focus on getting his teammates out first, with the help of hers as well of course. If she was being fully honest, she really did not expect to work as well with her team as she did. They were just as cunning and competitive. 

This made Gina’s plan that much easier to complete. While waiting out her ten minutes, she had concocted a pretty simple but effective plan. 

Her teammates and some of the opposing team members were actually everyday regulars here at the lasertag so they knew the routes and pathways that the others would take. With this information, it was decided that they’d take care of their own personal friends and get them out while Gina was left to find EJ and get him out. 

Yes,it was simple but if Gina was going to win, all she needed was for it to be efficient. 

Not much time was wasted, once she got out. The beeper signaling that players were out began to go off every couple of minutes, she quietly counted while swiftly moving through the area. Out of the corner of the eye, she saw something from behind. No way, she was turning her back this time. 

She quietly and carefully walked back to the spot where she noticed something and immediately let out a breath of relief at seeing a kid resting back in the corner, his eyes shut tight. “It’s fine, it’s fine. I’ll tell you where he is. Just please don’t tell him I told you. I can be out, it’s ok, I-” 

“Ya know, kid. I actually kinda like you for that but what did EJ tell you?! Did you really believe I was seriously out to murder him, it’s just our thing.. Don’t worry and well, if we’re bargaining here.. The best I can do is you give me EJ’s location and I’ll give you an extra ten minutes to go hide.” she explained, holding her hand out to seal the deal. 

He looked down a bit worried but shook nonetheless. He quickly whispered where he thought EJ would be hiding and ran away within a second after. 

Gina followed his instructions and slowly crept up to the second level of the arena. She knew that kid gave it up way too easily and there was no harm in being cautious so she walked towards the spot that the kid described as quietly as possible. 

Once she was there, she looked around but not carefully enough because now she was back to square one when she heard his voice. “Well, looks like my plan worked. I’m just so touched with how well you’re taking this, G.” 

“Aww Eej, you think you’re really gonna end up winning”, she started, as she turned and began slowly walking towards the proud boy, “-tsk tsk, you’re too good and naive for your own good, babe. 

EJ furrowed his eyebrows in confusion and ever so slightly,let his guard down. Rookie mistake, Gina thought as she jumped towards EJ again. He saw it coming and dodged the attack but ended up causing Gina to trip over his foot. 

She yelped at the collision with the floor. Pain shot through her wrist as she sat back up. Within a second EJ was already at her side, helping her stand. “Maybe we got a little too intense with the game..” he joked, walking to the arena exit with Gina. 

“Ya think?” she laughed, while gently massaging her palm and wrist area. Once they made it, the two returned their gear to the set-up room. There was still about a half hour of laser tag left but it was obvious, the game was done for today. 

Even if their initial idea got cut short, that didn’t mean the day was over. As EJ and Gina walked to the car, they couldn’t help but continuously chitter and chatter about all that occurred. From Gina’s surprise attack on him to EJ’s interesting conversation with the young boy. 

By then, Gina’s wrist had relaxed and the pain toned down. While they drove, the chitter chatter turned to a comfortable silence. It was just that time where words didn’t need to be said anymore. The glances, little laughs here and there, it was just really nice. 

The drive didn’t take too long and before they knew it, they’d already arrived at Ashlyn and Gina’s place.  

“So.. we’re here. Look, I’m sorry about the wrist thing and I just got a little too into it, you see when I-” His rambling got cut short by Gina pressing a gentle kiss to his lips. 

“Hey, it’s alright. It was just a game and it’s not like the day is over yet, I’d like to use up all the time I have with you today.” she smiled after breaking off the kiss. EJ proceeded to continually caress her cheek as she spoke. 

“Ok. This time, you name it though.” 

Gina decided on a movie night to end the day. 

Honestly, this month’s date night wasn’t the most planned and perfect but that’s what made it all the more fun. Both EJ and Gina couldn’t wait for the next to see what surprises were in store.

I think they all get along quite well with each other more or less.

From best double dates to worst its:

1. Izuocha and Todomomo: Honestly it’s just a wonderful fucking time with these rays of sunshine. Todo and Deku geeking out over All Might and their girlfriends. Momo and Ochako talking about their studies over tea that is so expensive it nearly gave Ochako a heart attack. Passersby are blinded by the sheer purity of the gathered cuties.

2. Izuocha and Kamijirou: A bit less than the last combo but only because Denki’s an idiot and tries to drag them all into doing something that only sounds cool up until the last few seconds before you actually start doing it. Kyouka apologizes about her BF being a bad influence while Ochako tells her not to worry and beg her for another song.

3. Kamijirou and Kirimina: These guys get along like a house on fire and tend to cause just about as much collateral damage. The Bakusquad without Baku is like throwing a bag of live thermite into an oil drum, it’s utter chaos. Kyouka tries to be the voice of reason but the combined stupid of Mina and Denki along with Kirishima being ALL IN on literally any plan his bro comes up with means that attempt doesn’t last long. They still all have fun though.

4. Izuocha and Kirimina: Deku and Kiri are bros but Mina can’t help herself over teasing Ochako over every little cute thing she and Deku do. Deku has to hold her back from strangling Mina more than a few times. Mina manages to get Deku and Ochako locked in a tight space together literally every single time they go on a double date.

5. Todomomo and TokoTsuyu: Tend to go on walks in the park at night. The most chill combo in the bunch. Todo saw Toko reading Tsuyu poems once and tried to write some for Momo. She thought they were beautiful but Tokoyami doesn’t have the heart to tell him he’s godawful.

6. Todomomo and Kirimina: Kirishima drags Shouto along to do a bunch of cool shit while Momo and Mina try and keep pace. He convinces him to compete with him in a “who can carry their girlfriend on their shoulder the longest” contest. Todo forgets they’re competing after a while and just enjoys carrying Momo around for the rest of the night and is declared “the manliest winner” by a sobbing Kirishima.

7. Kamijirou and Tokotsuyu: it’s either perfectly chill or utter chaos, no in-between. Either they all go to a jazz club to unwind with some music or Denki makes a crack about Tokoyami’s fashion sense and it all goes to hell. Tsuyu shares the poems Toko writes for her with Kyouka who is a bit jealous that Denki doesn’t write her stuff like that...a complaint he overhears and bursts into an impromptu song number about how awesome his girlfriend is while Kyouka blushes like a tomato.

8. Izuocha and Tokotsuyu: They get along just fine actually, it’s just they don’t have much in common. Or at least Tokoyami and Deku don’t, they mostly just chill together while Tsuyu and Ochako hang out and be cute. “The mistresses of our hearts, captivating, aren’t they?” “uh...yes?”

9. Bakucamie and Kirimina: This is the closest you will ever see Bakugou Katsuki try and be social. Kirishima continues to amaze the world by being utterly immune to being shouted and Camie keeps teasing Baku by proxy by saying that it’s a miracle her “bakubea” managed to get a friend like him. Mina has the time of her fucking life with seeing Bakugou being semi soft and squirming whenever Camie gives him a compliment about his looks. Every double date is like Christmas, joyous but with a good chance of getting maimed.

10. Bakucamie and Kamijirou: Denki continues to amaze the world by making a habit of poking the bear who can blow his head off. Camie gets a companion in teasing Bakugou in Kyouka and he doesn’t get a single moment of peace. Denki challenges him to a DDR contest and they’re all still paying for the damages.

11. Bakucamie and Todomomo: Momo and Camie become BFFs almost instantly but Todoroki keeps saying things that piss Bakugou off accidentally on purpose. Baku keeps challenging Shouto to stupid contests and keeps getting pissed off that Shouto isn’t taking their “hot wings until you puke” contest seriously because he doesn’t want to get the shirt Momo got him dirty.

12. Bakucamie and Tokotsuyu: Bakugou and Toko try to out edge each other while Camie and Tsuyu talk shop about cute frog pics on instagram.

13. Kamijirou and Todomomo: You’d think it’d be fine but Denki is volatile stupid and Todoroki is oblivious stupid and the combination of those two types of stupid is very dangerous indeed. Denki doesn’t even have to try and get Todo to do something stupid with him he just suggest something casually and Shouto, wanting to hang out with his friend, is like “oh yeah sure” and need to get dragged back by Momo before Denki convinces him to freeze dry entire tree to see if he can punch it apart after.

14. Kirimina and Tokotsuyu: Oh god the mismatch. they have no where to go that one pair won’t think is either boring or too intense. In the end they just go to the park and lie in the grass. Lowkey but hey at least nothing is on fire this time.

15. Izuocha and Bakucamie: An unmitigated disaster, every single time. Bakugou says one thing even vaguely insulting about Deku and suddenly finds himself in a chokehold while Ochako very calmly tells him not to be rude. Deku tries to break up the ensuing fist fight (the score is 40-41 for Baku-oh never mind it’s tied up) with out much success while Camie takes pictures and tells the two to smile while blood is dripping down their noses.

Fate and Phantasms #157

Today on Fate and Phantasms we’re making Emiya Alter! No, not that one, the one they gave a really dumb nickname to.

Anyway, Demiya is a Vengeance Paladin to take down anyone who would threaten humanity (and protect himself from mind control nonsense) as well as a Hexblade Warlock to project whatever blades he might need straight into enemies. I know he made the deal with Alaya, but it made him good with swords, so it’s probably fine.

Race and Background

Despite your arguments to the contrary, you’re still a Human, giving you +1 Strength and +1 Dexterity. You also get proficiency in Insight to be a better investigator, and the Fighting Initiate feat, because paladins don’t get the Archery fighting style normally. This gives you +2 on ranged weapon attacks.

What was it that turned you to the path of Alterness? Whatever it was, it made you a Haunted One, giving you proficiency with Investigation and Arcana, as well as a healthy hatred for anything Kiara-based.

Ability Scores

You’re good with guns and small swords, plus you fight shirtless, so make sure your Dexterity is as high as possible. Second is going to be Charisma. You’re a pretty scary guy, we need it for multiclassing,and it’ll help you shoot good later. Your Wisdom is also pretty good, thanks to your built-in mental protection. You’re too affected by your Alterfication to get affected by anything else. Your Strength isn’t that bad, you do use melee weapons too at times and we also need it for multiclassing, but your Constitution is rather low. Kintsugi is very pretty, but it’s not a great way to build a person. Finally, we’re dumping Intelligence. It’s less that you’re dumb, more that you just absolutely don’t care about stuff enough to get scholarly on most subjects.

Class Levels

1. Paladin 1: Paladins get better hit dice and the martial weapons we need for that Fighting Initiate we got, so we’re kinda stuck starting there. First level paladins get proficiency with Wisdom and Charisma saves, as well as two paladin skills. Intimidation is pretty self-explanatory, but you also get Athletics. Look, you’ve got pretty good abs, they had to come from somewhere.

You also get a Divine Sense, letting you sense threats to humanity nearby, and Lay on Hands for a bit of free healthcare for you or whoever else you touch. You get 5 hp of healing per paladin level per long rest, and you can use 5 points from that amount to heal a poison or disease.

Yeah, first level isn’t particularly in-character, but it’ll get better later.

2. Paladin 2: Second level paladins get another Fighting Style, so grab Close Quarters Shooter from the underdark UA for sick melee ranged attacks. This negates the disadvantage caused by making a ranged attack near hostiles, your ranged attacks ignore all but full cover, and you get another +1 to ranged attack rolls.

You also learn how to cast an prepare Spells using your Charisma. You can either use your new spell slots for, y’know, spells, or for a Divine Smite to add on extra radiant damage to a melee attack. Ranged attacks in melee range don’t count, sadly.

As far as prepared spells go, Detect Evil and Good can help hunt down baddies, ditto with Protection from Evil and Good. 

3. Paladin 3: At third level, you can at long last devote yourself to Vengeance!, giving you the spells Bane to trip up foes and Hunter’s Mark to stick some serious damage onto your enemies over time. You also get Channel Divinity once per short rest that you can use in two ways.

Abjure Enemy spends an action to force a wisdom save (DC 8+charisma mod+proficiency) or one creature is frightened for up to a minute or until it takes damage. While frightened, it can’t move. On a success, the creature’s speed is halved for a minute or until it takes damage.

Alternatively, you can swear a Vow of Enmity as a bonus action, giving you advantage on attacks against a nearby creature for a minute or until it hits 0 hp.

You also get Divine Health, making you immune to disease. Like half your body is gold, it’s not like sniffles are a big concern at this point.

4. Paladin 4: Use your first Ability Score Improvement to grab the Crossbow Expert feat. There’s a lot of overlap with Close Range Shooter, but you can now attack multiple times per turn with a crossbow, and you can use your bonus action to attack with a hand crossbow if you attack with a one-handed weapon with your main action. Unfortunately, that’s the one kind of crossbow that won’t work with warlocks, but for now it’s fine.

5. Paladin 5: Fifth level paladins get an Extra Attack, letting you attack twice per turn anyway! Making great use of feat you just got.

You also learn second level spells! Your freebies are Hold Person and Misty Step. Admittedly neither are really in character for you, but if you want to power game Hold Person gives you guaranteed critical hits on the held person, which is super busted when combined with your smites. Food for thought.

Otherwise you can use Magic Weapon and other smites to make normal swords into fancy magic swords.

6. Warlock 1: Bouncing over to warlock for a bit puts you in a pact with an even fancier magic weapon: a Hexblade. You might not have a soul any more, but you do have a Hexblade’s Curse, which you can put on one unlucky bastard as a bonus action once per short rest. The target’s cursed for 1 minute, during which: You add your proficiency to damage against the target, crit on 19s, and you gain HP equal to your warlock level+your charisma modifier when they die.

You also become a Hex Warrior, turning one non-two handed weapon into a charisma based weapon instead of dexterity or strength. You can also use this on any kind of weapon made with your pact weapon feature later.

Finally, you get Pact Magic, which is pretty similar to your old magic except it recharges on short rests instead of long ones. While the spell slots don’t blend like other multiclassing builds, you can use warlock slots to cast paladin spells and vice versa.

Speaking of warlock spells, you get Eldritch Blast to summon gunfire and Sword Burst to summon swords right into people. You also get Cause Fear because that’s most people’s natural reaction to you and Expeditious Retreat to stay in archery range. Just because you can fight in melee range doesn’t mean you should.

7. Warlock 2: Second level warlocks get Eldritch Invocations. Like usual, we’re saving one for level three, but you still get Armor of Shadows now for free Mage Armor on yourself. Now you can finally rip your shirt off and make Kintoki jealous!

You also learn Comprehend Languages. Alaya probably wouldn’t drop you off in someplace without giving you the language to get around, right? Right?

8. Warlock 3: Your pact boon, as you can probably guess, is the Pact of the Blade, letting you summon pretty much any melee weapon you could want as an action. It also counts as magic for overcoming resistance, making the Magic Weapon thing from earlier pointless.

That invocation we were saving becomes Improved Pact Weapon, which expands your pact weapon choices to pretty much any ranged weapon you could want and it gives any weapon you make +1 to attacks and damage.

Honestly there aren’t that many second level spells that I think really fit Emiya as a warlock, but Blur is nice. If you’re going to be nameless, you might as well be faceless too, I guess.

9. Paladin 6: Going back to paladin for a bit lets you create an Aura of Protection, adding your charisma modifier to any save you or allies within 10′ of you make. It’s not an enormous buff, but a +2 is a +2, take what you get.

10. Paladin 7: Seventh level vengeance paladins are Relentless Avengers. When you hit a creature with an attack of opportunity, you can move half your speed as part of the reaction an ignore opportunity attacks. Like a lot of paladin goodies, this doesn’t pair well with your guns, but you do have swords as well.

11. Paladin 8: Another ASI at last! Bump up your Charisma for better saves and spells.

12. Warlock 4: Use this ASI to become Tough for an extra 24 HP now and another 2 each level. If you want to get in close, you’d better be able to take a hit. Also, you’re part gold. Sure it’s a soft metal, but it’s still a metal. That’s worth a few HP.

You also learn True Strike because I’m really hoping you’re aiming those things, and Shadow Blade for yet another sword you can summon.

13. Warlock 5: Fifth level warlocks get another invocation and a third level spell. Spirit Shroud makes all your swords a little bit sharper, dealing extra damage to and slowing down creatures in a 10′ radius. You also get Eldritch Smite, which burns through warlock slots to deal extra force damage, and can be used with ranged weapons.

14. Paladin 9: Ninth level paladins also get third level spells, like Haste which adds to your AC, bumps up your speed, and gives you and extra action for the duration. When the spell ends you have to take a turn to chill, but it’s totally worth it. You also get Protection from Energy, which... I mean if someone’s throwing around acid arrows, yeah go for it. Otherwise you can get more smites and Elemental Weapon for more fancy weapons.

15. Paladin 10: Tenth level paladins get an Aura of Courage, preventing allies in it from being frightened. I’d be more worried about charms, but honestly your wisdom save is pretty good at this point.

16. Paladin 11: Your Improved Divine Smite means you can add radiant damage to melee attacks even when you have no spell slots to burn; unfortunately that’s still just melee attacks, not ranged attacks.

17. Paladin 12: At seventeenth level you can finally use this ASI to bump your Charisma up past the point where your dexterity started, meaning your attaks finally get a bit more accurate thanks to being a Hex Warrior. This also bumps up your spell effectiveness and all your saves.

18. Paladin 13: Thirteenth level paladins get fourth level spells, like Banishment and Dimension Door. You also get access to yet another new smite for yet another new sword.

19. Paladin 14: Your last mainline paladin goodie is a Cleansing Touch, spending an action to end a spell affecting yourself or a willing creature charisma mod times per long rest. You’d think this anti-Kiara protection is coming late, but to be honest you probably should be level 20 to take on a Beast of Humanity.

20. Paladin 15: Your capstone level makes you a Soul of Vengeance, letting you make opportunity attacks on a creature affected by your Vow of Enmity if they try to attack anyone. Again, this only affects melee attacks.

Pros:

Mixing your Hexblade’s Curse and Vow of Enmity together means you’re really good at dealing crits with basically four times the odds of critical attacks each attack compared to your regular fighter. This is especially good for a character that can double smite like you can, dealing serious burst damage easily.

You also deal consistent damage with a +14 to hit and several different ways to stick more damage onto your attacks, like the afforementioned curse, Hunter’s Mark, or Spirit Shroud.

Thanks to your warlock slots recharging on short rests, you can go ham on smites a bit more than most people could, making your Unlimited Lost Works available to you more than other paladins.

Cons:

You’re a paladin specializing in ranged attacks. Admittedly the only things really making you a ranged fighter are your fighting styles, which can easily be changed, but if you’re playing to character you’ll find it a bit harder to use your paladin features.

Another reason staying at range is a good idea is your Concentration saves are really bad, with a total of +0 and no way to improve them.

Starting as a paladin but then adding in hexblade later means you have something of an awkward beginning, with your first couple ASIs not really contributing much to your character, with those first few mostly making up for your weaknesses rather than playing to your strengths.

1. Sheepleb interactions, I don’t care with whom - I need sheepleb my beloved to interact with people for reasons. I know the sheep-shifting may only last for 1 minutes but that’s 10 rounds, surely enough to get some sweet RP in.

I mean they have bigger problems but yeah I got what I wanted!

5. Wait no it’s the astral sea there is no wild magic effect anymore :( but can they at least encounter some unique astral sea creatures, features or something as fun as Aeorian wild magic.

Well... That was a lot of astral sea creatures. More precisely creepy meaty enemies. I think it was fun! In a horrifying way, but fun.

6. Someone mentions Yussa and discuss the probability of saving him (honestly though I don’t know how that’s going to work).

Jester mentioned Yussa pretty soon but I think they are a bit... preoccupied to save anyone at the moment, oops.

7. Getting closer to the city and discovering more of its nature/power/how to stop it.

Wow that city description is cool oh boy I got chills from the empty city suddenly bustling with people. Also that Caleb telepathy experiment is so creepy and terrifying. Is the city alive?! With flesh and teeth?! EuughhHHh. Timorei the terrified rebel/Fear they first met (who seemed to be on Lucien’s side), with Elatis and Luctus opposing him? The Aether crux??! Ira/Wrath who acted in a sort of beast-like way and seemed antagonistic towards Mirumus and Gaudius?? It’s good to know the Somnovem are in fact far from one mind - their opinions seem pretty divided. Aether crux might be the way to go, couldn’t they just destroy all the Somnovem, since they want M9 to kill some of them anyways? Does the entire city function like a living body?

8. Beau and Yasha continue to flirt even in the astral sea and travel side-by-side or physically interact.

Twin initiative 21 yeah let’s go- wait when I said physical interaction I didn’t mean it like that come on!! Stop hitting each other. Also Yasha’s small “I love you but” aww. It was still a little bit flirty somehow lol loved it. ALSO the air kiss was so cute I can’t with these two and their awesome PDA. They also searched the building together!

9. Jester really doting on Artagan/Sprinkle like she never did before.

I mean, she paid him way more attention that’s for sure :D

10. Jester and Fjord have a longer one-on-one conversation or fight like a badass battle couple that they are.

Hey they were both great in combat and explored together! 

11. Obligatory wish for Essek’s fancy dunamancy or magical items (Bonus: we get to see one of those high-damage AOE offensive spells that he couldn’t cast).

AYY LIGHTNING BOLT HYPE! It was sort of an AOE too! Loved his flair as always. It’s not dunamancy technically but I’m counting it because cool purple-black spell.

Welp, that took a turn. I did not expect so much Eldritch horror and expected way more humour (which in hindsight was unwise considering how the story is going lol), but honestly I’m not complaining one bit. Matt’s voice acting and everybody’s performance are top notch and the world-building is just *chef’s kiss*, terrifying or not.

They talked about it later, years after their lives had taken off into space in opposite directions, the moment they knew.

Well, the moment he knew.

"Wait, what?" Emma asked, looking up from the hollow she'd found between his arm and chest when the December air found the crevices in the windows and chilled their skin. She'd get goose flesh and he'd run his hands up and down her limbs to warm her, then pull the flannel up and over them, no matter how warm he was from doing all the work near their end. "We kissed? When we were TEENAGERS?"

"Well, I was technically a teenager the first time we slept together too."

"We didn't sleep."

Harry wiggled his eyebrows at her and smirked, "Oh, I know."

"Oh my god, I really don't remember this!" She turned all the Christmas parties she'd attended at his mum's house over in her head. Emma figured she'd been at the annual event every year since she was 15 or 16, the age he says he was when they kissed. She has almost three years on him. Maybe she was 14 at the first one. That one she recalls well, She's pretty she still had braces. Nobody kissed her. If her math is good, it's her last Christmas before moving. "No wonder you were so ballsy last year!" She slapped at his chest and he grabbed her hand and kissed her fingertips.

"Nah, that was more to do with last year. I was just flush and nobody had turned me down in so long I didn't think anybody ever would again."

"I did!" She at least pretended she wasn't captivated.

"You did. At first!" He reminded her and bit her fingertips before sucking them into his mouth. "Made myself irresistible evidently." He wiggled his eyebrows.

She rolled her eyes thinking back at his dogged flirting. He'd found multiple reasons to be near her and had found her close enough to the mistletoe and was charming enough that she accepted the kiss he negotiated out of her as inevitable. Negotiated, that was laughable, he laid one on her and it overwhelmed her reason. Emma thought she played it cool enough, though she remembers they held hands for the the 10 minutes after, at least.

She accepted the other things he was offering on the strength of that kiss, and the fact that since he'd slipped his tongue into her mouth so seamlessly, convincingly, all she could think about for the hours intervening was what else his mouth could do.

While she replayed the memory of that first kiss, the one that counted for her, another blurry memory flashed in her mind.

"Oh! Was it underneath the mistletoe, too?"

Harry rolled his eyes, and her beneath him in the same breath. "You were under the mistletoe the second time!"

"I was mistletoe adjacent, at best." She sighed, she meant to jest, but his long lean body pressed along the length of her clouded her mind and convinced her she wasn't tired anymore or too tipsy off champagne.

"The first time, was me under the mistletoe."

"I kissed you?"

"You did." He confirmed with another kiss.

"How'd I kiss you? Like full on?" She was a little mortified she'd kissed little Harry.

Gemma would have killed her. Would still! That was why she and Harry always just flirted at the party and met up at the inn when the wine had everybody off their head. Nobody knew, it was their Christmas surprise. The secret she looked forward to all year.

"Well, you weren't brave enough to slip me the tongue." He stuck his tongue into the corner of his mouth; that was too attractive by half.

"Hmph." Was all Emma could come up to answer with. "Did I say anything?" She smoothed her hands up his back.

His face got dreamy, and he seemed to be reliving something. "Yeah, you told me 'you're getting cute little Styles.' I always hated that nickname, but I felt a little taller that night."

Harry was descriptive, which was funny considering he could be so quiet at times, but he was quick and he knew a lot of words, more than her. He was working on his third language. He would basically narrate while they fucked and it drove her crazy when he'd describe how she looked and felt and what it was doing to him.

"What do you want to ask?" He pressed his nose to the place her collarbones met and she could fill him growing between her legs.

"How'd you know I want to ask something?" He was too observant.

He reached up and pulled the lip she didn't realize was between her teeth free. Ahh.

"Ask." He kissed the lip still imprinted with her teeth marks.

"Tell me about it. Describe it, like you do for me when you're inside me."

He blew out a breath, "Should be easy, I obsessed over it for ages after, before even."

She had had that idea. She'd intended to leave for a summer term in Sweden that spring and wasn't sure she'd be coming back. And she'd always loved that party, and Gemma's family. Even Gemma's goofy weird brother who was getting cuter and more confident. "Why do you say that?"

"Dunno," he tilted his head and his mouth flattened out and his eyes went somewhere else, he was looking at her but not the version in front of him. "I think you reminded me of my cousins' when they could first drink. Seemed like you were just throwing caution to the wind, letting it fly. Like you had nothing to lose, cuz this place was about to be a memory."

Emma could only find the energy to stare, she thought she nodded. He was spot on, but she wasn't even sure she could have articulated those feelings then. And she hadn't been that reckless ever before or after that day.

"I'd been watching you, and like I said, had a crush for years, um, and like, you were wearing that shiny top, like liquid silver and your long brown hair was all curled up and your cheeks were red with your merry making and I'd always loved your laugh. You're usually so calculated—"

"That's not a nice word."

"I don't mean it like a bad thing, like maybe a better word would be careful. Like all your moves were preparation for the grand future you were working towards. But when you laugh, it all falls away. Tears leak from the corners of your eyes and you bend at the waist and just lose it. That night you did it a lot." He kissed her knuckles. "Did you notice I was kind of shadowing you that night?"

"Honestly, not really, I was kinda out of it, or maybe really in it instead of 5 years ahead." She always was at least a week ahead in her mind. In the actual moment, she was usually just ticking that day's checklist off to get to the next thing.

"Yeah. I could see it, you were really in your body, and it made me want you more." He laughed. "The only other time I ever see you like that is...ah..."

"Go on!" She jostled his shoulder.

He bit his lip like the imp he was and said, "When we fuck, it's like when you laugh, there's no tomorrow, or next semester, or internship you have lined up, just the next orgasm on the horizon."

She knew she was blushing but she ducked her chin and shrugged. She couldn't deny it. She could feel that when he moved inside her, when they moved together, it was like when she really lost her head and laughed at something. Better, more. Emma definitely did not tell him it was never like that with anybody else.

But even remembering her first kiss with Harry was a sensory experience. She gave him direction because that's who she is, but she's fairly certain even if she didn't, he'd be able to get her off just by watching her.

She wondered if it was the same as her. He was more cerebral than anybody gave him credit for. Maybe if he talked more about the kiss she'd find out.

He caught her chin, "Where'd you go?" He asked with dopey green eyes.

"I'm just trying to remember." Emma lied. "Tell me more, maybe it will come back to me."

"Oh, from my memory of the proof of your breath you may never remember." Emma could feel her cheeks heat. She had really tied one on, she was absolutely rough the next day. Utterly useless.

"Yeah, I wasn't sure I'd ever be here again."

"In Holmes Chapel? Really? You thought you'd never come back?"

"I always wanted to leave so bad, I genuinely thought I wouldn't miss it."

"But you did? You do?"

She nodded. She didn't want to explain that the first time she was way more homesick than she expected and this year, well, this year she wanted him for Christmas again.

He gave her this face then and a kiss that made her think he really was a mind reader, his crystal ball in the shape of her body.

He gave her a smile that looked like a wink and started talking, "Like I said, I'd always just found you so impressive and you were always so pretty. But you came back from Amsterdam different."

"I was really remembering you in your red jumper from two parties before."

"Tell me about that party- we got off track talking about the last one." Last year she remembered In technicolor.

NO. 10 : SHIMANO

If you don’t remember Shimano, she is Oito’s last surviving maid, and the one who straight up ignored Kurapika when he told her to answer Benjamin’s call first. 

To not do what Kurapika tells you to do, especially when he’s like this takes an insane amount of guts. You have to remember that she just watched two people die, one of whom was her co-worker. Her head is so level you could build a house on it. 

She had a better strategy, she was not afraid to go through with it, she didn’t bother wasting precious time to explain herself beforehand, and she was not afraid to let him know that he was incorrect. 

She’s bad as hell!!!!!!

Shimano: lmao like hell 

What makes her interesting is that her main motivation during this succession contest is to get out alive. While she later explains to Oito that she is staying out of duty for the royal family, I suspect that she isn’t exactly attached to the young queen, which is entirely reasonable given the situation that she’s in. I mean, she’s here to do a job. 

Shimano did not know what she was signing up for, but she has not fumbled the ball once since getting on this murder cruise; something that has earned her Kurapika’s respect. I hope that cements her role as a larger player during this arc, and I really hope Togashi gives her more time to shine.

Fun Fact: she’s called Shimanu ONLY in Volume 36 of the Viz Translation. 

Survival Rating: 4/5, she might pull a Bizeff and get out by the skin of her teeth, and there’s no one actively trying to kill her. 

NO 09: MELODY

Oh sweet, sweet Melody, how I love you so. We haven’t seen too much action from her, but the reason she has placed on this list is her performance during the second banquet. 

In order to give Kacho and Fugetsu a chance to escape, she pulled a Hisoka and revealed her ability to literally anyone who would listen, placing herself in serious danger 

Little does she know how much trouble this is going to get her into, especially now that Tserriednich is interested, and it’s safe to say she won’t get back to bodyguard business anytime soon. Please, please keep yourself safe, Melody. 

Survival Rating: 5/5 bc I just can’t accept even the thought of a reality where Melody isn’t alive

NO. 08: QUEEN OITO HUI GUO ROU

Listen, we’ve all entertained the fantasy of going from sugar baby to trophy wife, but few of us are unlucky enough to turn that dream into a reality. I bet you she was living her Hot Girl Summer until all of this happened, and honestly, good for her. 

But by GOD was she ready to give it up to face the Succession Contest head on. She switched it up on us at the start by specifically targeting people who wanted to kill or control Prince Halkenburg, the current favorite to win. There was no hoping or wishing that things were different, she did the only thing that she could do in her situation: stack the odds in her favor as much as she possibly could. And I’m not gonna lie, she really lucked out. Kurapika is someone you want on your side if you’re trying not to die. 

My favorite thing about Oito is how well she handles the pressure of her situation; she just picks it up and runs. Who can afford to feel pride when your daughter’s life is on the line? Need a cockroach? Start screaming! You’re the Queen and this is your house. You get what you want, Oito. 

As someone on the bottom of the ladder, there simply is no time to entertain fantasies of grandeur. Oito never tries to check out of reality, like so many of the other Queens have done. She is not here to play around, she is here to play the game.  

Unfortunately, her convictions lie in the fact that she thinks she and Woble can get off the boat alive, a theory disproven by Kacho and Fugetsu’s ill fated attempt in Chapter 383. Given the change of circumstances, how far will she let herself go to survive, and what will she have to give up? 

If we’re being honest, the only way I can see this playing out well for her is if there’s a fire, or an iceberg, or i don’t know, a riot caused by a murder cult that somehow forces everyone on tier one to evacuate, and she just happens to be the last on to get a life boat, but I highly doubt that things are going to be that convenient for her. 

Survival Rating: 2/5

NO. 07: KACHO AND FUGETSU HUI GUO ROU

These girls are willing to do anything, ANYTHING to get themselves off of this ship, including but not limited to, learning morse code, going into unknown territory unguarded, and risking their own lives in order to protect the other. And they’re like what, 14? 15? 

Kacho said FUCK boomers

They worked, they planned, they gathered allies, and experimented, and they would have succeeded were it not for the curse that put their lives in danger in the first place. 

It was so hard not to root for them. When we learned the truth about Kacho’s ability, I literally screamed. This is Gift of the Magi on steroids, and watching this animated, if it ever does get animated is going to be a tough ride for me, and I will start crying again.

These sisters have a heartbreaking devotion to each other’s safety, and I’m terrified to find out how Fugetsu will react once she learns the truth about her sister’s sacrifice. Will it break her? Will it make her stronger? My money is on the latter for now, but the way this arc is going, who the hell knows? 

The beginning of her arc and even the passive nature of her symbiotic nen beast frames her as a co-dependent character. While Kacho 2.0 is still, technically, an active player in the form of a nen-beast, she is a nen-beast, something that I suspect will be picked up by either a bodyguard or someone from the Hunter’s association if Kacho’s original body is never recovered. Someone will have to break the news to Fugetsu eventually, setting her character up for some fantastic trajectory. She will either have to lean into her budding independence, or rely on Kacho for what might be the rest of her short life. 

They have a lot to reconcile with once when we see them again. They’re in baby jail, Their most loyal bodyguard is dead, and Melody is temporarily out of the picture thanks to her stunt at the banquet. With mostly enemy bodyguards left in their employment, she has a lot of growing up to do. I hope this doesn’t make her an easy target. We’re rooting for you Fugetsu!!

Survival Rating: 3/5

NO 06: BISCUIT KRUEGER

I am so fucking glad that Biscuit Krueger is on this boat, I love her, she’s unstoppable, I don’t need to explain why she’s on this list. My only wish is that we get to see her beat the shit out of someone who really deserves it. Could she take on Benjamin? Probably. I hope she does. She’s got like twenty years on him. 

Survival Rating: 5/5 because I just don’t think she’s capable of dying

NO 05: MACHI KOMACINE

Oh she’s on a mission, and honestly fuck Chrollo and Illumi because I would pay to see her rip that clown apart. Look at this face? How can you not get chills. I love this for her. 

Revenge won’t fill the hole in your heart where Kortopi and Shalnark used to live, and honestly I don’t know if you can survive a second tussle with Hisoka, but you Go Get Him Queen. 

Survival Rating: 1/5 Togashi said she ain’t gettin off the boat, and I’m inclined to believe him on this one. She’s had a good run. I just hope she pulls some wicked sick shit before she goes. 

NO 04: MORENA PRUDE

Edgy, Nihilist, Boss Babe, Patient Zero, Bisexual Icon, Murder Messiah, the Joker wishes that he was Morena Prude so fucking bad. She is so more committed to burning this world to the ground. If you thought we needed more women in positions of leadership, here she is. She’s like the Herbalife of homicide. Let’s take a look at the math. 

Assuming most people aren’t nen users and the Hunter x Hunter world population is about the same as ours, 7 billion, she runs out of people to kill/infect by round 13, making this a great way of causing the mass extinction of the human race, and a fantastic way to run a multi-level marketing scheme. 

She looks like she’s handling being a boss pretty well, and her 22 picks for Contagion seem to be pretty good choices. They’re legit, they know what they’re doing, they’re loyal, and they’re really excited to straight up go Purge Night on this yacht.

While it’s safe to assume that Morena has already killed between 9 to 45 people, the only reason she’s not higher on this list is because we haven’t seen her do much except set off this gigantic domino chain of problems. Her influence on the arc looks like it’s going to be more passive, but she’s definitely here to make a splash. Her nihilism, and her connections to Tserriednich have me thinking that she might to be a crucial late-game player when things go completely fucking awol. 

Ahaha, everyone in that boat is in terrible danger. 

Survival Rating: 1/5 because bad girls live fast, die young 

NO 03: SARAHELL

We do not know a lot about Sarahell, but her name has Hell in it and she’s willing to perform suicide in order to kill an infant and if that doesn’t make you Bad than I don’t know what the hell does. 

Out of all the women on this list, she’s the only one that really scares me. Not only is she willing to risk her life, she wants to die for Camilla in the most efficient way possible. Woble is in her crosshairs, and if she’s as good as acting like a two-faced bitch as she says she is, we’re not in for a good time. I doubt that Kurapika would let her anywhere near the Prince, but I don’t know. They might fake an alliance, something that the Oito and Kurapika have been very open about. I can see her offering up information on Tserriednich in an attempt to wedge her way in. She might even help them out a bunch before she goes in for the kill.

This is a legitimate assassination attempt, and one that’s a lot more sophisticated than Vincent’s. They’re in for a fight over in room 1014. 

2/5 it would be interesting if she somehow managed to survive and had to live with the guilt of failure. Sarahell that she is prepared for that possibility, but I don’t think she knows how badly things can go for her yet. 

NO 02: CAMILLA HUI GUO ROU

Camilla, Camilla, Camilla literally what part of you is not bad to the bone. 

I think she might have as many costume changes as Killua? 

We are first properly introduced to Camilla when she asks her dear old dad if he could, quote, “not accept dropouts that are not biological death,” meaning that she fully intends for every single one of her brother and sisters to die, and she doesn’t give a fuck who knows.

The next time we meet her, she’s instructing her mother to buy a bunch of designer clothes, and in the SAME BREATH she goes “Oh yeah, you need to kill your son for me, okay? Thanks.” 

And you have really got to feel for Duazul here. Like. She’s got four kids and the most to lose in this game. She’s doing her best to keep it together.

Anyways, back to Camilla: uh, her nen ability? Are you kidding me? Who taught her nen? Who told her she could do that? Was the first thing that popped into her head “giant cat-shaped nen curse that activates when I’m murdered?” What kind of things do you have to do to form this kind of ability?

And don’t even get me started on her fascist suicide death cult. She’s taken advantage of people from the lowest caste of society and turned their gratitude into fanaticism. You cannot buy this kind of loyalty, especially when you expect your personal guard to do this. Which is insane, considering I don’t think she’s planning on abolishing the caste system any time soon. 

Where Benjamin takes a more traditional approach to this war, aka strongarm the competition until they forfeit, Camilla has taken the most extreme measures to ensure that she wins. She does not expect anyone to survive, including herself, and has based her entire plan around that. If Benjamin is a lion, then Camilla is a steam roller. 

As someone who has had it her way her entire life, she’s convinced herself that there is no possibility that she can fail, a trait that makes her nen ability so powerful. However, this determination is quickly turning into tunnel vision, and when people don’t play into her games, she doesn’t leave herself with a way out. 

Which leaves us with a very interesting problem: if she dies on the black whale in a way that she cannot be resuscitated, what is her personal guard going to do? It’s hard to believe that they won’t want anything but total retribution, especially when they have nothing else to lose. 

Bar Tserriednich, and maybe Halkenburg, I truly believe that she’s one of the most dangerous players on the Level One. 

1/5 she’s got mad azula vibes there’s absolutely no way she’s not going down

NO 01: THETA

Theta is the baddest bitch on the boat, and that’s a hill that I’m willing to die on.  

Who else has the resolve, the guts, the conviction to take this crazy motherfucker out for the greater good? Even after getting caught red handed, she’s still making moves to make sure that Tserriednich gets his ass assassinated. Period

When she finds out what an insane risk his nen poses does she get scared? Does she try to run? Does she try to bargain with the situation? No! She puts her big girl pants on and understands what she has to do. Shoot him in the head point blank because he’s nasty.

Note: in the Viz Translation she thinks, “I have to do this. I’m the only one who can...!!”

What puts her at the number one spot is her willingness to accept the consequences of her actions. Unlike Sarahell, there is literally nothing in this for her. The fact that she alone put herself up for this sacrifice speaks miles about her character, and since nen and personality work hand in hand, I’m really looking forward to seeing her Hatsu. I bet it’s sick as hell.

Considering that Tserriednich is the big bad of Succession Arc, it’s safe to assume that Theta is going to take an important supporting role in his downfall. Listen, I am counting my blessings and praying every day that her and Kurapika find common ground and team up in the next batch of chapters. These two have too much in common not to do so, and I can’t wait to see what she does next. 

There is a lot to expect from what is one of my favorite characters in Succession Arc. She relies on herself, has her head on straight, and is willing to clock any bitch that needs dealt with.

You may not agree with me, and that’s fine, but on a list full of baddies, I dub her the baddest.

Survival Rating: Theta, I hope you live to see the end, but I’m going to give you a 2/5 on the survival scale because you are on thin ice, sister. Good luck and Godspeed.

Chapter Thirty:

The worst part about being crazy was the way people acted when they realized you were crazy.

People always treated you oddly. Some as if you were as fragile as glass, others treated you like the most precious thing in life. Overall no one treated you the right way. You weren’t some trophy to be won, only to be kept up on a shelf for the rest of your life.

You weren’t some token that helped people achieve things in their lives, and yet you were constantly fighting for basic human recognition. People always treated you differently and then the minute they put together the pieces of why... They gave you the look.

You couldn’t stand it. Not because it came from strangers or form people in your life that meant practically nothing to you. But because it always came from people who knew you. People who should be able to understand. But no one ever did.

Instead, they made their realizations and they looked at you... Like they were scared of you and it was terrifying.

It was terrifying to see them stare at you and make the realization that you were unhinged, and you would do whatever you felt was necessary to protect the people you cared about. And that terror that gripped your heart when someone looked at you scared just made you angry.

This was a close friend who was supposed to love you, to trust you unconditionally. But instead, they were terrified of you. They didn’t trust you in the least.

And on top of that, they would proceed to compare themselves to you- Something you may not have minded were in not for that damned look. The one that told you the people that you cared about the most and would die for, didn’t care about you in that way in the slightest.

“You’re what?”

You hadn’t been thrilled to meet the CEO of Pledis.

After all, he was the man who made thirteen of your favorite people in the world work harder then they needed to. The man who put so much stress on those same thirteen people that you felt like most people had to worry about them too much. And he was the man, who didn’t seen to appreciate how hard the boys worked for him.

He promoted Nuest badly, and he let Pristin break up and he did a number of things you simply didn’t agree with.

And the fact that these awful decisions still got made despite the fact that Seventeen was there fighting for their futures under the company made you realize that he must be a difficult man to pick a battle with and win.

So standing before him, hand in hand with Jihoon- heart thumping in your chest at the prospect of him saying something about you that you didn’t want to hear or convincing Jihoon that he didn’t need you in his life or something terrifying like that was pretty much all you were thinking as you looked at the man.

“I’m dating y/n,” Jihoon repeated firmly. He wasn’t as scared of the situation as you were. INfact you noted that you hardly ever saw him scared. He was a fairly easy-going person it seemed. Hard to nudge towards any extreme unless he was with the boys and he was really happy. “And Carats found out, and now you need to make an announcement that we are dating.”

He paused and shrugged, tugging you closer to his body.

“Or I will.”

The threat in the air sent a very real chill through your body despite the fact it was rehearsed. Seungcheol’s plan of course. Jihoon was going to play the hard ball- be stubborn and unwavering- and you would be less so to make the CEO like you, and maybe possibly not insist you two break up.

“He doesn’t mean that!” You interrupted, a nervous laugh bubbling in your chest. “He just means that we need to do something before things blow up.”

The CEO’s face only got redder and redder as you two spoke, the anger clearly growing. It made you tighten your grip on Jihoon’s hand unsurely- and you felt Jihoon mirror that reaction.

“What do you two think that you can do? Just come here and demand I do what you want so you love birds can stay together?” He asked. “Did Seungcheol tell you to do this? Jihoon you know the rules of dating.”

Jihoon opened his mouth to argue with the CEO but you placed a hand over his free hand to stop him from doing so.r

“Look other idols have been able to manage without much backlash,” you stated softly. “The world is changing. Don’t you think that maybe-”

“No.”

He slammed his hands down on his desk, a serious expression crossing his face.

“You two are going to break up. Jihoon is getting suspended from the group- I can’t tell you what comeback he’ll be allowed back in but studio songs and everything? That’s definitely being taken away from you-”

“We aren’t breaking up. Carats won’t like an album written by someone else. Who are you going to hire?”

“Bumzu,” the CEO fired back. “He’s wrapped around my little finger all I have to do is say the word.”

“If you take away my song writing I will leave this company, and Seventeen will follow me.”

“Do you think anyone is going to want to have to manage a group of thirteen children one of which broke a rule he knew was there just for some foreigner to seduce him?”

Your mouth fell open at the insult to your own proud but you weren’t angry about that. You were angry about something else that he had said.

“Do you really think that Seventeen needs you?” You blurted. The CEO looked surprised by the outburst, as did Jihoon. “They don’t need you. Nor will they ever need you. They could manage themselves on their own and even if they did not a company they could always just go to PSY Nation who I know for a fact would be able to handle them better then you do.”

The CEO opened his mouth but the reddness was draining from his face- he knew you were right.

“Without Seventeen your entire company will crumble. They’re the majority of your income, and you’ve proven again and again that you can’t handle managing groups. If you don’t let us handle this situation it could mean the collapse of this shitty company- and that only sucks for one person and that’s you.”

Silence fell over the room at your words and Jihoon looked between you and the CEO wondering what was going to happen next. Finally the CEO sighed heavily and he clicked a buzzer on his desk.

“Get me on the line with every news network in the city that cares,” he said over the buzzer. “Lee Jihoon of Seventeen has a girlfriend.”

You hadn’t thought it was possible for a weekend to be as chaotic as this one, but everything sort of flew off the rails at that point.

You spent literally every second with Jihoon, his fingers tightly knitted with yours. You two went from interview to interview to do damage control and explain to everyone in Korea that you were dating. It wasn’t the most fun. Korean’s were mean.

Each and every little word out of their mouths was a chip at your intelligence, at your appearance, at you and Jihoon didn’t really seem to notice.

“I never imagined that was the sort of girl that would be your type,” One host joked.

“I thought foreigners were supposed to be prettier.”

“She’s not really... Much is she.” You honestly didn’t really think you had ever felt more insulted in your life, and that was saying a lot considering that you pretty much didn’t trust that anyone in your life actually thought that you were doing anything right.

But despite your anxieties, you kept to yourself, reminding yourself that all would be alright- in time. Jihoon had done a lot for you. Whether he thought he had or not, and this was the least you could do for Jihoon.

No- It was everything that you had to do for Jihoon. If you didn’t do this, you didn’t deserve the right to be his girlfriend. You just needed to breath evenly, and trust Jihoon.

It was weird, you had to admit, going out with a facemask and a hat on. After only doing it a few times, you decided to just stay at Jihoon’s instead of leaving every night, and frankly no one was protesting.

“What if... You and Jihoon did a choreography together?” Soonyoung suggested as your feet dangled over Jihoon’s lap. You looked over at the boy, who wasn’t even looking at you. Instead, he was toying around with a tiger plushie.

“Sounds fun,” you said, but you didn’t really mean it. It sounded like busy work. Something that you could completely submerge yourself in and let take over you as you waited for this all to end. “What dance should we do?”

“Rewrite the Stars,” Jihoon replied. You were surprised by his immediate response, but you didn’t say that.

“Alright,” you agreed. “Rewrite the stars.”

It seemed fitting as a song for you two to do but you couldn’t help but notice after your millionth watch that it seemed really difficult. You had to be really emotive, and have a lot of control over your body. Not only that, but it mostly had the girl as the center it was barely a duet, and more a solo.

“I don’t know about this one Jihoon,” you mumbled. “It seems...” “You can do it,” Jihoon interrupted. You gave him a pressed look and turned the computer to show him what you were looking at.

“You see that move, ten seconds in I absolutely can’t do that,” you insisted. Jihoon didn’t even look at the screen.

“Not with that attitude you can’t.”

“And,” you continued, deciding to ignore his indifference. “Yoojung Lee is a really emotional dancer. I can’t be even half as emotive as she is.”

Jihoon glanced over at you an incredulous expression on his face.

“Do you even know yourself?” He asked. You opened your mouth to inform him that you did, and that was how you knew that you would not be able to do this dance, and that he thought too highly of you, but before you could say that, Jihoon contined speaking: “You can easily do this. You’re just as good as Yoojung Lee.”

Such a statement was equally comforting and discomforting at the same time.

You really liked that Jihoon was so confident in your skills as a dancer. You had always wanted to be with someone who was a big supporter of you and everything that you did. After all, you were, deep down, rather ambitious. You liked to do a lot of different activities that you needed to be good at. You didn’t often yield much support from people outside of:

“Oh, you can almost do it as well as me” or with some digging for it maybe a: “That is really good actually.” Neither of course being an ideal situation.

You supposed in a why, Jihoon had picked a perfect song.

You didn’t think it was possible for you to dance with someone like Jihoon. You thought the fans would rip you to shreds, and you would do the dance moves wrong, and you would mess up, but Jihoon was right there.

Maybe if Jihoon thought you could do it, everything really would be okay.

The dance itself required a lot of body control. Outside of facials and fluidity, the biggest command from the dance was being able to move yourself limb by limb. It wasn’t an easy feat for most people, much less you. The dances you did didn’t often require such control, and generally when you did dances it was with a large number of other people so your control wasn’t focused on.

But with this song, it would only be you and Jihoon, and rotated through a few members of Seventeen in the background to show their support, so you would have to be perfect.

The first thing that you had to focus on was the arm movement only a few seconds in the dance. Turning over your left shoulder, and drifting your hands through the air was easy. But making your arms wave so fluidly was going to be difficult.

Luckily, past that, and making sure each move looked clean, the hardest part of the dance could be overlooked. Soojung was a very thoughtful choreographer. She hit a lot of the beats in the song that many people missed.

That made it easier to follow her dance movements, because it was like you could feel the way the dance was supposed to go while watching her and hearing the music.

You turned over your shoulder, hands touching your head as you waved them down. The song practically reverberated through your body as you waved your arms in a ripple. Each movement, coming to you faster and easier then you had thought it would.

“You look great,” Jihoon complimented as you too hit the final pose, his shoulder brushing against your back. You looked back at him.

“I could be better. You make it look so easy.”

You knew that you were being hard on yourself but you hadn’t become a dancer that Jihoon thought could actually do this stuff without working hard.

You flipped over your shoulder, your back to Jihoon’s as you turned your hands in, and began to flutter your fingers. Each dance move making you feel more and more tired. You were getting a lot better, but good enough for the Carats? You weren’t sure.

“I’ll call the boys in and we’ll film,” Jihoon suggested. You turned to him, a nervous smile on your lips.

“Can we film tomorrow?” You asked. “I just know I can get it, but tomorrow for sure.”

Jihoon relented, and stayed in the practice room with you all night while you practiced.

With a formal introduction of you and Jihoon’s relationship in the form of a dance cover posted on the internet, you felt a little bit better about everything. The hope was that seeing you and Jihoon dance together would be enough to make Carats relent with the backlash you two were receiving.

It wasn’t the worst backlash you could be facing. Carats were pretty considerate, but there was still backlash, nonetheless.

“You doing okay?” Jihoon asked you softly. You turned off your phone, wishing you hadn’t been looking at yet another article about you two.

“Yeah,” you lied. Jihoon sighed.

“We need to get you out of these dorms,” Jihoon mumbled. “You’re getting sad again.”

He was right. You hadn’t felt very good in the last little while, and nothing that you usually did was helping you to feel better. Being close to Jihoon was only going to help so much.

“We can’t going anywhere,” you stated softly.

“Sure we can,” Jihoon replied. “We’ll just go grab something to eat. See the night lights.” You knew ultimately it was a bad idea, but you let Jihoon convince you into it anyways. He was so happy by the idea of running out and grabbing some Ramen and taking a walk in the park that it made you happy to think abot as well.

You thought maybe everything would be okay.

It of course wasn’t. As soon as you got out on the streets the two of you were swarmed by people.

And Suddenly, you felt... Nothing.

It wasn’t like you hadn’t expected really. Walking out of a building to be surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of people all tuned in to you and what you were doing. You had always imagined it would pull your brain in too many different directions. So much so that you ended up being dumb to what was actually happening. You thought you would get overwhelmed.

Instead, your brain just... Stopped being able to focus on anything.

You couldn’t hear what people were saying. You couldn’t see what people were doing. In fact you weren’t even really sure anymore where you were or who was near you. Your brain just stopped processing everything.

You knew that there was an angry crowd of people there. You knew that you needed to be responsible and own up to all of the sneaking around that you and Jihoon had been doing. You knew that you needed to be strong, and not shut down, bu...

There was nothing. You just suddenly felt like you had stopped existing.

Until warm fingers wrapped around your wrist.

And then you were brought into reality.

Well, a sort of reality.

Jihoon wrapped his arms around you, pulling you close against his body. He was quiet and calm despite it all and most importantly, was as gentle as he needed to be. Your heart, strangely enough, was beating out of control. Your body was stable, you weren’t scared.

It was strange to think that you felt safe here with Jihoon, despite everyone that was around you. But you were.

You wrapped your arms around his waist, and in response he pulled you closer, his lips burying themselves in your hair.

“I love you,” he mumbled.

“No matter what,” you agreed softly.

You didn’t need the affirmation, but you did appreciate it. It was nice to hear that you were loved as often as Jihoon felt like it needed to be said. He really did know you well, you supposed.

As you two stood there, finding solace in the eye of a storm, you noticed that the carats at the edge of the circle had stopped screaming. They were no longer hoisting their large signs up and down in the air, and instead were just standing there staring at you and Jihoon quietly.

In fact, they stood there in silent observation until the point where you noticed that no one was standing there and yelling obscenities at you any longer. Instead, they had confused expressions. Eyebrows slightly quirked in question.

If you had been Jihoon you surely would have been confused.

Why were they so confused? Why are they staring at us like that?

But as a carat, you weren’t confused at all.

You could feel what it was like from their point of view. Their anger melted away and they realized that Jihoon had found someone who made him happy- and that person, whether you could truly believe it or not- was you.

The fans didn’t have to say a word to one another. Instead, they silently began to make a path, moving away the reporters so that you and Jihoon could safely escape. You tugged Jihoon gently.

“We can go,” you mumbled softly. Jihoon looked surprised. He must not have been watching.

“How?” He asked.

You shrugged, and said possibly the cheesiest line that would ever leave your mouth in your entire lifetime:

“I guess the power of love.”

“I didn’t want to do it!”

“And yet you did,” Jaebum mentioned seriously, shaking his head.

Jinyoung didn’t say anything, uncaring of any excuse the boy had to share. He had put everyone and everything in danger. It was unforgivable. He reached for his sword.

“No, wait!” Yugyeom spluttered, shaking his hands and his head. “He honestly didn’t want to do it! But you know what Argo is like! He killed his whole family and is holding his sister captive! You must know how that feels.”

“Don’t care,” Jinyoung murmured, pulling his weapon out. “We all have unfortunate stories.”

“I thought you would understand given how much you’ve sacrificed for Y/N!” BamBam quickly shouted, Jinyoung pausing at this statement. The young man nodded desperately. “I know that feeling! My sister means everything to me!”

Mark sighed. “Your sister will be dead.”

“What?! No, she was promised to be-”

“I’m sorry Bam,” Jaebum continued, placing a hand on his now shuddering shoulder. “You’ve been played just as we all have. There was no chance your sister survived even one night in that man’s captivity. He holds no prisoners.”

Jaebum’s sentence hung in the air and Jinyoung glanced at his friend and then at the dirt track that led out of here. Staring down it, he took a step, and then two more, compelled to go and meet you halfway.

Just so his mind could be at ease that you were safe.

“She’ll be back soon. Jackson’s with them so she’ll be fine,” his longest friend mentioned, coming to his side. “Don’t take your anger out on Bam.”

“How can I when he’s already been cut down by someone else’s sword?” Jinyoung lamented, casting a gaze over at Yugyeom now holding the wailing man. “He’s right. I would have done the same for Y/N.”

“You did a lot for her when we were his age,” Jaebum agreed sadly and both men blinked when Mark shot past them, pulling out an arrow and waiting for some unknown arrival. Argo was well and truly gone now, but had he decided to turn around?

A cold dread chilled Jinyoung to the bone and he flung himself around to the stables, hastening the saddle around the middle of his horse whilst the others followed in suit. He glanced at BamBam and shook his head. “Don’t come.”

“I’m going to kill that bastard!”

“Precisely why you need to stay here. Yugyeom, keep him here and feed him some tonic. He’ll only get us all killed,” Mark instructed and the tallest nodded, hauling the man kicking and screaming back into the mountainside.

Jaebum sighed heavily. “This might be a waste of time and bring more attention to us.”

“I need to get Y/N back at my side. I don’t feel right.”

“Nor do I.” Mark mounted his horse swiftly. “Something is off.”

They galloped out of the base and took the path most common towards the village. However, when they reached the first of the crossroads, Mark turned to the left and went off that way. The other two followed, screeching to a halt when they saw Jackson crumpled on the ground.

“What the fuck?!” Jaebum shrilled as he leaped from his stead, rushing over with his friends to Jackson’s side. “What did they do?!”

“They took them both,” Jackson said, laboured. Staring up at Jinyoung remorsefully, he started to cry. “I tried-”

“Don’t apologise. It’s on me. I put her in danger,” Jinyoung responded and even he was aware of the dark tone his voice had taken. His vision blurred only for a moment before it sharpened with intent.

He would kill Argo for this.

Before he could move, Mark reached out for his arm firmly. Jinyoung glared at the oldest and threw him off roughly. “Do not stop me!”

“Look at the situation, Jinyoung! Argo played us. He only stayed long enough to buy time. He ambushed Jackson; you know he’s the best at close combat. He didn’t even get a chance if they were prepared with arrows. If you go in there now-”

“I know the risks.”

“Do you? Because I don’t believe you’re thinking straight,” Jaebum shot back, pressing on Jackson’s wound as he stared up at his leader. “We need to treat Jackson first.”

“That will take all night! We both know Argo holds no captives! Youngjae and Y/N need us to act now!”

Mark attempted to restrain Jinyoung again, battling with him until he managed to wield an arrow right at his throat. His gaze was resolute. “All of us go together, don’t be rash.”

Jinyoung cursed loudly, his voice echoing around the area.

He hoped Argo could hear of his frustrations.

“We can’t just march in here!” Jackson whispered fervently, still following along as Jinyoung strode towards his goal. “Jinyoung, let’s wait for the others!”

“We have a chance to do it now, I’m taking it.”

“What if we get caught?”

“We won’t, we’ve stolen a hundred times.”

“But a crown? Come on!”

Jinyoung smirked. “Actually, Jaebum and I have done that.”

“You… you have?”

“So trust me, I know what I’m doing,” he assured and whilst Jackson’s worry didn’t ease off, he stopped chattering and that helped Jinyoung focus again. This one would be a piece of cake compared to the royal crown he had taken a year back. Their Lord clearly had a thing for bits of ornate metal to chuck around his head, that’s for sure. Jinyoung didn’t understand the need, but then again, was there ever one? It was all based on greed and lust.

Power grew through misfortune.

Sizing up the perimeter, Jinyoung nodded to Jackson before hiking himself over the fence, reaching down for his friend’s hand to help him up. Now both within the premises of the richest family of this city, Jinyoung relaxed.

It would be easy from here out.

“Guards!” Jackson gestured and Jinyoung slipped alongside a wall, surprised by how many there were. Still, even if this knocked his confidence, he was certain he could pull the mission off.

“We should have waited!”

“No time to wait,” Jinyoung murmured, counting to three before he stepped out onto the path.

And right into a horde of waiting guards. Before he could register his mistake, the men started to fall one by one, precise arrow shots taking down the obstacle effortlessly. Jinyoung glanced to find Jaebum and Mark in the trees, panting with their evident rush to get set up.

“You risked everything by being rash!” Mark scolded when Jinyoung handed over the crown to Jaebum, being jostled with a hard punch to his shoulder from the man.

“You idiot. Next time, stick with us!”

“You’ll be no leader if you keep risking us like this,” Jackson added on and Jinyoung looked up at those who had saved his tail today. It would be a lie to say he didn’t fear death. He wanted to live just in case you were still out there waiting for him. His carelessness would come with a cost he wasn’t prepared for.

Jinyoung nodded. “I’ll make sure I become the best leader who is fair and knows when to go into battle. Just you wait.”

It was early morning when Jackson finally started breathing normally. The medicine had taken the path needed to ease off the imminent pain and taking refuge at Jaebum’s cabin meant they were surrounded by all that they needed to take with them.

“Why don’t we just grab the cart? We can put Jackson on it and-”

Jackson sat up with a wince. “I can ride my horse. It’s a wound in my side, my limbs aren’t broken.”

“Your core helps you sit astride a horse, does it not?” Jinyoung pointed out firmly, pushing Jackson back into the bed.

“We’ll be able to carry more weaponry that way too,” Mark agreed, having worked on making new arrows all night long. “We’ll need it for going up against Argo.”

“And to escape all the way to the fishing docks.”

No one answered Jaebum’s lofty addition, all four men knowing that reaching there was a pipe dream right now. Jinyoung’s only goal was to rescue what Argo had taken from him. And then he would ensure the man would never be able to take anything else ever again.

“We’ll leave at noon.”

It was a quiet morning, each warrior set with packing what Jaebum had collected onto the cart, working in sync with each other without speaking a word. Jackson rested until he seemed recovered enough to get himself up.

It was him who broke the silence. “Let’s go. I can’t wait any longer. We need to go rescue our people.”

“And take revenge for what happened to you,” Mark mentioned. They all nodded and suited up, ready for what would come their way this time.

Jackson chuckled as he clambered onto the cart obediently. “Had I worn full armour as Jaebum suggested yesterday, this wouldn’t have happened. But it would have slowed me down a great deal so that’s why I went with the lighter one.”

“Continue to chide yourself for powers out of your control, my friend. You’re the only one sounding their resentment for the situation.”

“Well, I did mess up, didn’t I? I lost what I was meant to protect.” Jackson looked at Jinyoung specifically. “Surely that bothers you.”

“If I let every error you’ve made over the years get under my skin, you wouldn’t have been here to make another one yesterday,” Jinyoung told him with a grin and Jackson let out a shaky breath.

“You forgive me too easily. Y/N could be injured by now and that’s all on me.”

“The Gods above will witness a bloodbath if there’s even a scratch upon Y/N,” Jaebum mentioned, mounting his horse thereafter. He chuckled. “And as for Youngjae, he best have both his legs or I’ll go around taking some off to make up for it.”

“We’re some sinister bastards, planning how we’ll take people out, you know,” Mark said with a hearty laugh, their ride now picking up speed. “I wouldn’t be in any better company, however.”

“Ride or die,” Jaebum announced, tugging on the lead to Jackson’s horse pulling the cart to pick up speed. “Or ride in style back there, huh?”

“Don’t mock me! I said I would ride with you!”

“You are,” Jinyoung stated, smiling at the three men. He then looked to the path ahead. “We’ll do this together.”

Argo, unlike Jinyoung, held his camp in the middle of a village he had once plundered. He put himself out on display, marking his territory so anyone who wanted to find him could. The advantage to this site was the fortified walls, rebuilt by his men and protected heavily. You could be seen from miles away and that meant they had travelled undercover for the last leg of their journey.

The disadvantage of being out in the open meant everyone knew where to find you when they wanted to kill you too. And by the time Jinyoung arrived at the walls from the north side, he was more than ready to face Argo.

His bite would be long lasting this time.

However, even with a stealthy entrance, there were only concubine women who populated the area. Mark eyed one carefully. “What happened here? Where is your master?”

“The master is hunting,” she mentioned, cowering into another young girl.

“Hunting? What of his prey he captured?”

“He’s hunting,” she replied, running off into one of the buildings and locking the doors. Mark frowned. “Hunting? Surely there’s a catch.”

Jinyoung surveyed the area, thinking of it as his own. If he was holding someone captive, he would use the tower on the west to do so. Striding over there, Jinyoung stopped when he noticed in the stables something familiar.

Jaebum came over to his side and let out a heavy breath. “Well, I’ll be damned.”

There, lying on the ground was a part of your navy pants. Looking to the closest exit, Jinyoung walked out it and noticed another part, inconspicuously just off the path.

Leaning down to pick it up, he smiled.

You were leading him to you now.

Reacting To: The Hollow (Season 2 Episode 2)

Episode Title: Hollow Games

Key Highlights (Spoiler Warning): Kindly proceed if you’ve already seen the episode or simply don’t care about spoilers.

This episode was amazingly gay, wasn’t it? Let’s begin:

1. The episode picks up where things left off in episode 1. Our favorite trio are being cornered by their greatest childhood fears.

2. Mira decides to confront Adam’s fears for him and the rest of them follow her lead with Adam taking on Mabel, the giant chicken and Kai taking on creepy doll. The guys take on a physical approach but Mira tries to reason with the bullies. Unfortunately, none of their methods are working. 

3. Amidst all of this, we find out that Mira has an older sister on top of her younger brother, Miles.   

4. At one point, Adam is pinned down by Mabel with its foot and Kai sees that he’s in trouble and goes to rescue him. 

5. Kai yells and tells Mabel that he’s not afraid of it and as it’s about to charge right at him, it disintegrates. I like how Kai is the one to save Adam this time around instead of the opposite because it’s usually Adam who saves him. Basically, they discover that facing their own fears is the way to go. Well, it’s pretty obvious, no? But it seems a little too easy for all of them to conquer their fears by just yelling at them. Oh well...

6. After the showdown, they head back to Kai’s big mansion to make sense of what’s happening to them. During their discussion, Kai seems to regret having had a crush on Mira because she’s Miles’s sister. What’s the deal with her brother, Miles? Oh right, we’ll find out later in the episode. 

7. Hold up, hold up, hold up! Kai still thinks that Adam and Mira have a ‘thing’ for each other and he doesn’t want to get in between them. Is this going where I think it’s going?

8. OMFG!!! Stop everything! Drop everything. Kai said “I’m gay”. He said the word GAY. And he said it so casually! I didn’t expect this coming out to happen so early on in the season. I love it! Kai’s reaction was cute and totally chill. But poor Mira almost had forgotten that she actually kissed Adam. She apologizes to him and blames it on the memory block she had due to the game. Sure Mira :)

9. But seriously; It’s pretty clear Mira knew that he was gay all along and I’m sure if she had her memories with her at that time, she wouldn’t have kissed him. Oh and Adam is aware he’s attractive. Of course he is! How can anyone resist someone who is as tall, dark and handsome as he is. 

10. I’m smiling so hard right now. But anyways, back to the situation at hand; They’re now talking about the glitch they saw when they were playing the game (back in season 1) and how the glitch was able to create such an accurate depiction of their lives. Adam thinks that they’re now on Level 2 of ‘The Hollow’ but Mira isn’t buying that theory. Master Kai still thinks it’s all a dream. Will he just stop?! LOL

11. They call for The Weird Guy’s help but nothing happened. Mira thinks they should look for him at The Hollow Games studio. But before they could all leave for the studio, they’re stopped by Davis, Kai’s butler. He insists that Miles should head to bed and that Mira and Adam leave the mansion. 

12. If you look closely at his sleeves, the initials K P are on it. That means Kai’s last name starts with a P. I wonder what it is? Maybe it’s Parnall for Connor Parnall, the voice actor for Kai? I think it’s adorable how he says, “Silly Adam” before going to bed. 

13. Mira drops Adam outside his home but she’s too wary of everything that’s happening around them and isn’t convinced that Adam should trust his parents and stay with them. I completely understand Mira. She really wants everything to be solved asap and she wants to go to the studio to see The Weird Guy tonight. But there are too many uncertainties and she has to consider what both Adam and Kai want as well. She also feels like she can’t trust Adam because she doesn’t know if he’s real or part of the game mechanics.  

14. On the other hand, Adam thinks that they’re on Level 2 of the game and they just need to live like they usually do and wait for quests or challenges to appear before them. It’s sad to watch them argue. I guess that’s how being in a complex game/experiment-thingy does to your mind; You can’t help but to come up with any sort of scenario. 

15. Okay, so we now know that Mira and Adam are actually childhood best friends prior to starting the game. They even carved their initials on a sidewalk. 

16. Remember in my episode 1 review when I said Adam’s mom is creepy. This scene right here takes the entire cake for me. *Shudders

17. Adam is busy searching for clues in his room and finds a Moby Dick book but with completely blank pages. How strange. This world is really messed up. Mira is driving through town and sees Skeet speed-running on the streets. This should be interesting. Since last season, I’ve always thought of Skeet to potentially work with the main trio one day since he was so reluctant to fight them. We shall see what happens deeper into the season. 

18. The next morning, Adam and Kai meet up outside the donut shop and Kai is freaking out because he says he hasn’t woken up from his dream. He tells him about a new theory he has to explain why everyone is acting so weird: an Alien Invasion. I honestly can believe any explanation at this point because everything is so messed up. 

19. Mira didn’t show up and they become worried. They walk over to Mira’s house and ring the doorbell. It’s Miles! And he immediately recognizes Kai. Miles and Kai seem to be gaming buddies. 

QUESTION: I’m now wondering about how long Kai has known Mira and Adam prior to ‘The Hollow’. I guess he could be childhood friends with them too? 

20. Adam thinks that Mira probably went to the Hollow Games studio last night and they make their way over there. They are stopped by a security guard who doesn’t even know what building she’s guarding and isn’t aware of ‘The Hollow’. I guess this supports my theory that only current game players know what ‘The Hollow’ is. 

21. Is it just me or does Adam always feels like he has to touch Kai in some way or form, every chance he gets? I’m not complaining though.

22. Darla is hilarious and I totally stan her. We need to see more from her and her ex, Steve. Apparently Reeve is or was friends with Adam and Mira in real life. From my understanding, all three of them were in a team (for The Hollow?) before something happened and they had to recruit Kai as his replacement. I love all the backstory we’re getting. This season is doing a good job with that. And this explains the picture of the 3 of them in Adam’s room last episode. It’s such a contrast because they were kinda direct enemies last season. 

23. They sneak into the building to find Mira and they’re pretty sure she’s in there because her scooter is parked outside. 

24. It looks like it’s ‘The Hollow’ champions wall. We see a picture of Gretchen Aguilar and her team but no sign of Adam, Mira and Kai on that wall. This further confirms their suspicion that they haven’t actually won the game yet. 

25. They head to the stage room where the participants would wear their VR-looking googles and play ‘The Hollow’. Kai trips on a cable that he suspects is connected to a server room that powers the game. But Adam calls him from what it appears to be the control room as he is looking through files to gather more information. 

26. After surviving a random and sudden earthquake, they come across the server room but they are swarmed by a bunch of laser-shooting bots. They barricade themselves inside the room, which has a broken wall that leads to a big portal. They suspect that Mira jumped through that very portal.

27. Adam isn’t sure if they should enter that portal but time is running out and they need to make a decision fast. 

28. Any excuse to touch Kai huh? He is so smitten by him (I need to stop lol)

29. The episode ends with the two of them literally taking a leap of faith into the portal. Stay tuned for my reaction to episode 3, which will be out very soon. BTW y’all, I’m still not over Adam’s coming out scene to Kai! Cue me replaying that scene over and over again.

could u rank aaaall the characters u can think of from fave to least fave?

i won’t do every single one because there’s literally too many characters in this series but i’ll rank the ones that i have opinions about;

1. yuki -- a shocker i know but it cannot be helped. he’s been my favorite since day one. hands down my favorite character arc in the story, i think it’s just so impactful not just for a romance series but for a story so focused on cyclical trauma. he’s a cryptic little weirdo but he’s also just like..... achingly normal and relatable. (i mean........ isn’t that just his whole character development......). big romantic, so kind and genuinely good but also he’s a big bastard and i love that for him. his and tohru’s relationship? his development surrounding it?? the best of the best. just standout to me. mwah. absolutely iconic.

2. kakeru -- for a character i didn’t even remember when i went back to reread the series a few years ago he is like....... quite literally on the brain all the time now lmfao. technical-wise i think he stands as a really interesting juxtaposition to our main trio in the sense that he has the qualities they initially lack, but he struggles with and has to actively work on aspects that are very inherent to all three of them. he just holds a unique perspective that i appreciate, esp since it’s so critical to challenging yuki’s. vibes-wise i think he’s both interestingly complicated and a fucking fool. absolutely lame and refuses to acknowledge it. love him.

3. machi -- the ways in which my opinion about her character have changed over the past year....... okay so if we’re talking like, strictly canon machi i don’t think she would be this high up (still top 10 probably) but considering the mental energy i’ve put into reconsidering her character & story and just like.... the fact that i think about her as much as i do..... i kind of can’t not have her up here lmfao. idk i think she had a lot of potential that got dropped in canon which is a shame, but i think i’ve talked that point to death so. anyways. i do just love her. she just has those vibes you know. no bullshit, secretly rabid, depressed & doing her best. yeah. takaya nerfed her because she realized she would just end up giving her the same gay subtext she gave yuki and u know how she feels about that.

4. haru -- god what is there not to love abt him. i think he makes me laugh the most throughout the series but he’s also sooo fucking intense at times it’s sick. especially since he usually stands as a chill and grounded point while everyone else is going crazy..... again just immaculate vibes. just so much love in his heart. like he genuinely just wants people to be happy and having a good time. i do also wish his character/issues were explored a little more (maybe in lieu of characters who like.... didn’t really need a character arc lmao) but it’s not a dealbreaker. boy rlly almost exposed the sohmas to the whole school though huh.

5. kyo -- he’s actually somewhat tied with tohru but i think he has just an edge above her for me because he’s such a grouch LMAO. idk there’s just something about how he’s very prickly but suuuch a softie and romantic under it all that just gets me. in a weird way though, he ticks a lot of my boxes but isn’t exactly a character that i’m strongly drawn to? i like him, but i don’t really reread his chapters/rewatch his eps. something about him doesn’t click exactly right for me..... maybe bc his story is strictly romance-focused (and honestly tends towards the melodramatic that i’m a bit ‘hm’ about). that said he lucked out with getting a satisfying ending to his arc and he’s made me cry at least once so gg. 

6. tohru -- every time i think about her i’m just like. can we pleeeeease get this girl a therapist. yes they all need therapy but like..... hello can someone help..... anyways she’s just so lovingly made and i think her progression is super super well done. how her issues and grief manifest and really take form in the series over time is just...... oog...... it’s just perfect. i really appreciate that we get to see a character who is stereotypically feminine and mother-like actually struggle under those traits, but doesn’t abandon them once she overcomes her issues. she’s not a go-to character for me like, personality-wise ig (again.... melodrama....) but i do love her. icon.

7. uo -- back in middle school i think she was actually my favorite character after yuki.... and tbh is it such a coincidence that i couldn’t remember the second half of the series when i visited it again in my 20s lmaoooo. first-half series uo is just so fresh. i love that people find her threatening and yet she’s just this chill harsh-mouth who’s also incredibly tender-hearted and vulnerable. just genuinely funny and insightful every time she’s on the page. her friendship with kyo is also pretty standout to me it makes me laugh every time, and ofc her love for tohru... well u know. meanwhile second-half series uo um.... who’s that lol..... she only takes a place above hana here because i have really affectionate memories about just loving & admiring her when i was younger. 

8. hana -- more or less tied with uo. she’s a constant mood and i love her for it. i guess i could say “second-half hana idk her” here too, but that’s just more because she just literally drops off the face of the earth after a certain point. but whatever, i love that she walks around with psychic powers and everyone knows it but it’s never questioned because everyone is just so fuckin weird it doesn’t matter. takes no shit, could kill you without leaving evidence. vibes. i also think her backstory is really beautiful and her relationship with tohru is just gorgeous. just a perfect support character.

9. shigure -- okay he actually also used to be a fave back in the day. i think he’s just fun to think about...... his perspective and his purpose in the story is pretty fascinating and i think it’s one that you gain new insight on with each reread. he just stews in this incredibly morally grey area and that’s where he stays. truly a character that you either love or you loathe. i mean at the heart of things he’s a conniving bastard who has fuckin problems LMAO but he’s also just so.... aggravatingly lackadaisical when he’s not actively being a shit-stirrer.... just “cause problems on purpose & chill” energy. ends justify the means to the bitter core. problematique. his story w akito is fucking batshit and the series wouldn’t be the same without it, the energy of that with the rest of the story?? what the fuck dude. meanwhile i do love his relationships with the main trio & the other sohma kids.

10. ayame -- king.... he’s just 110% all the time and i think that his existence is just the most exquisite dunk on his family’s rigid upholding of conservatism and tradition it’s truly sexy of him. he does what he wants and tbh, it’s worked in his favor for the most part. when he’s on screen you know some stupid shit is about to go down. and of course i really love his and yuki’s relationship and how it impacts them both over the series...... good shit rlly. a fabulous menace.

11. kimi -- she’s literally just up here because she’s goddamn funny and i love her relationships with kakeru and yuki. no deep traumatic lore just a girl owning the fact that she’s cute smart as hell and knows how to get what she wants. a brat to the core. idk she’s just pure fun and i think that’s necessary in a story where even the designated clown characters (kakeru, ayame) have fairly dark moments. also i think about the “his wallet 💖” moment too often.

12. komaki -- okay. so. she is not this high up on the list because of who she is in canon. she’s this high up purely because of how i’ve recreated her in my brain lmfao. i think she’s borderline unnecessary in canon (i like that we see the other side of the accident, but the execution of it is just. not it.), but my extensive daydream universe where i just overload her with headcanons to give her any sort of character beyond “kakeru’s cute girlfriend” lands her up here. i also just think of her too much as an extension of thinking about kakeru too much. sue me.

13. momiji -- honestly i’m having kind of a hard time placing him because i do like him, i think he’s funny and sweet and of course has his own brand of issues going on, but...... i don’t think i have any strong feelings about his story? i think he brings a necessary lightness to the cast, but when it comes down to some individual aspects of his narrative (involving his mom/momo, his unrequited crush on tohru) ...hm.... i think his complicated feelings about the curse are really poignant though and that part of his story especially slaps for me.

14. akito -- hmm... hm.... i like how akito stands as tohru’s narrative foil and i think the parallels between the two are pretty rich...... but i really struggle with just how fucking exhausting she is lmfao. the lengths of her derangement are just 2 much for me personally, and i feel like the ending really failed her as far as her personal growth goes (which? i think is super fucking detrimental considering how takaya tries to portray her as like, “reformed” or something along those lines.... i just don’t buy it. her having a normal functioning relationship with SHIGURE??? lmaoooooo. please). i do appreciate the level of darkness she brings to the story, and how her behaviors form and completely fuck the family over, but...... i don’t necessarily enjoy her........ tiring queen.

15. rin -- ah... tragic, vitriolic goth.... i do like her, and i think i could place her above akito depending on the day, but her story doesn’t really stand out to me. like, it’s obviously incredibly sad, but it’s really unfortunate that we don’t see her develop in a way that actually..... you know.... develops her character.... idk it sucks that she’s written in a way where she’s fruitlessly sacrificing herself mentally and physically for haru and there’s never really a point where it feels like she can just relax and consider herself and her own needs (or even like. like herself). she starts and ends the story feeling completely broken from trauma and i just think there should have been more of an intervening point somewhere in there, which i think could have been achieved with more time between her and tohru. as is she’s just kind of all-around tragic which :’/ bummer. she deserved more growth.

16. mayu -- honestly i still don’t really get why she of all of the characters has a backstory chapter. i think her friendship with kana is pretty heartbreaking but it also doesn’t... do much for me.... after the fact... so i don’t know what to think about it. her crush on hatori is kind of weird and i don’t fully understand it in canon. but you know what. she’s funny and i like her attitude. for the most part, i like when she’s on-screen. i think she has a really funny relationship with her students and is this chill no-bullshit kind of figure. her friendship with the mabudachi boys is nice even though i think it’s delivered a little weird at times (which is more or less because it can be easy to forget that she. knows them lmfao). yeah. i like her but takaya really made some decisions with her huh. also i originally didn’t add her to this list but i’m just sticking her in here last second so yes there’s a note in hatori’s bit that doesn’t make sense now but it’s staying.

17. kyoko -- so i kind of have some blasé feelings about kyoko, except when it comes to her backstory, in which case i am just... upset lmfao..... the adult version we see of kyoko is sweet and at times like, pretty funny in just how blunt/harsh she can come across as, but in general my feelings about the parents in furuba are just like.... oh you’re a nice parent.... oh you’re a fucking horrible parent..... etc. you know? it’s usually pretty one or the other (some parents are a little more complicated than others -- tbh kakeru’s mom comes to mind), and she’s obviously portrayed as a good parent, esp since we see her primarily through memory. anyways, her backstory is just tragic. she went from one abusive situation to the next and was then left to be a single mom at like, 19/20, traumatized and with just about no support system, and while i understand that she was able to become the kyoko we see in the present because of tohru.... idk i think i still feel a kind of unresolved dissonance between backstory kyoko and the kyoko we see later on. and i think that largely has to do with the fact that we (purposefully) don’t see the parent’s perspectives -- so she ends up in this transitory stage. i have no idea how this would be resolved lmao i think it just is what it is.

18. hatori -- i’m also struggling to place him because i think he’s sooo so poignant in the beginning of the story but i don’t really pay much attention to him later on. which is a shame considering his introduction is to me the first real punch to the gut regarding just how deep the issues go with the sohmas. i don’t feel inclined to really think of him very often, but i just think there could have been more done for him. i think trying to tie up his issues with a romance just doesn’t really work and is also irrelevant to his? actual problems? (also sorry i’m just remembering that this is another symptom of takaya pulling another wacky coincidence maam they don’t all have to know each other i repeat they don’t all have to fucking know each other--) anyways i feel like his resolution wrt his issues with his family/the curse is kinda.... glossed over..... unless i’m just completely forgetting something. 

19. hiro -- i used to hate this kid. straight up. now i think he’s just like.... a typical smart-mouth 12 year old...... so he’s alright lmfao. i think his relationship with rin is interesting but it’s pretty forgettable. i don’t really care about his relationship with kisa or the parallel it makes with kyoru, but i do like the scene where he tells her about his curse breaking. he does mature in a nice way over the series. oh and the panel of him holding his sister makes me cry idk dudes. alright maybe i’ll place him above kagura just on that right alone.

20. kagura -- do i feel justified putting her this far down on the list? i dunno. her relationship with kyo isn’t my favorite (i just find it obnoxious) but i think she’s pretty funny and cute otherwise..... thing is kyo takes up like 95% of her story so there isn’t much otherwise 2 speak of. really wish her relationship with rin could have been explored more tbh i think that could have had potential. honestly my feelings about her change with the phases of the moon so while i don’t care much about her right now two weeks from now i’ll probably feel more inclined to bump her up to the momiji-rin range. which i feel like says enough about her character for me lmfao.

21. kisa -- she’s alright? i think she’s cute but she doesn’t really do much for me after her intro chapters (which. i only like so much bc they’re a big part of yuki’s narrative tbh). yeah. honestly not much to say about her :( 

22. ritsu -- sighs.... man...... ritsu could have just been so much more but canon doesn’t give us much and i really don’t think about them otherwise. like truly they just completely disappear for the whole meat of the story LMAO...... what the fuck..... 

23.  nao -- he’s not so far down at the bottom because i hate him, he only has this placement because you could literally take him out of the story and i wouldn’t fucking notice lmao. i never think about him and i don’t rlly want to. next.

24. kureno -- uuuugh uuuughhhhhhh. the wasted potential of this fucking guy. would it have been so hard to drop the creepy romance plotline and just put more effort into his story regarding his place in the family....... his symbolism...... fuck even just giving him a personality. ugh. honestly i think we could have benefitted from a pov chapter from him to get a better sense of all of this instead of just extrapolating but. alas. looking at him gives me the residual taste of cardboard and regret. i had actually originally placed him above both nao and ritsu because at least he gives me something to think about, but it didn’t feel right. i actively dislike seeing this dude because i just know that his storyline is fucked from start to finish -- not in a narrative way like akito or rin, but in a way that just gives me the impression that his character was never 100% there. all this drama over a man who only wears button-ups and khakis. despicable.

25. katsuya -- yeah i know boring typical answer and surprise to no one but there is just nothing redeemable about this dude to me. i won’t lie, i think i would consider his character differently if the narrative had any intention whatsoever to condemn him, but obviously that doesn’t happen so here we are. anyways tohru baby you were right to dislike him just like...... lean a little more into it yknow........ yeah. i considered maybe not putting him on here because of my general attitude about the furuba parents but the fact that the story tries to paint him in a positive light just makes kyoko’s backstory borderline unbearable to read. bad.

> Alright gonna get mildly into it for a second, the clone wars really gets into it with episodes like this, displaying how the entire galaxy was starting to lose faith in the Jedi and their peacekeeping ways, in the movies we just got that people just started hating the Jedi because they became part of the war, but this really fleshes it out and shows just how slowly and gradually the loss of faith is. Because he’s right, the Jedi aren’t peacekeepers anymore, they bring as much destruction with them that the separatists do and have become symbols of war. They’re fighting for a good reason yes, but they can no longer claim that they are peacekeepers or that they played no role in this war.

A three! I think I’m mid range cause I ain’t terrible but there is still shit I gotta improve and grow in my writing

2. Why do you write fanfiction?

to manifest what canon won’t give me and to write more! (though yes it is mainly about the smooching and the— I’ll stop there LOL)

3. What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works?

Hm! My weird research details? I’m that “fun fact, did you know...” in my fics sometimes LOL! I plan on giving a penthouse for erina in a fic and I went through penthouse listings in Japan for floor layouts and locations💀 my research gives me inspo and depth to stuff I think I lack in comparison to others sometimes.

4. Are there any writers that inspire you?

In terms of fellow fic writers, one of them I can’t name here but she’s an inspiration with her exceptional gift for prose period and her lovely skill at comedy! I want to be as funny as her when I write, I love her ironic situational humor. Other fic writers are @takoyakitenchou, @royaldragonsevgisi15 who I always love sharing ideas with and motivate me to create more! For non-fic writers it would be V.E. Schwab, Leigh Bardugo, Oda, and Horikoshi! The last two may be mangaka, however they are writers as well to create their stories! The depth these creators have given their worlds and interesting characters theyve given life to are all what I aspire to be like!

5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?

so far uh?? hm everything I’m currently writing are wips lol!! im proud of my wip that has been nicknamed ‘soma panics’ that is a multi-chapter fic that spans like probs 20 plus chapters maybe

6. What element of writing do you find comes easily?

dialogue! it’s so much fun! and character thoughts. I’ve said to people I may be better suited for script writing

7. What element of writing do you struggle with most?

I think it’s description, of like setting and showing action. also an expansion of my vocabulary LOL

8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write?

erina! I think it’s because canon has shown us many of her different faces and range of emotion.

9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write?

SOMA!! chill ass mofo whos more carefree compared to the common shonen protagonist! for other shokugeki characters I’m not sure just yet because I haven’t flexed my fingers enough for the rest of them.

I can’t answer this question imo because I haven’t finished a fic yet so technically stuff could all fit in the one fic?

26. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?

MYSTERY AND CRIME! I love the genre and I have plot ideas once a blue moon but I can’t dive in because I want to make details that work and reduce plot holes where suspension of disbelief isn’t as needed. I need to study it more (I need to study all the details for any of my fics imo to be confident sometimes LOL)

27. What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received?

I don’t think I can say one comment was the nicest because I’ve gotten comments that have given me quite the smiles to my face many times! I know this is a cop out but it’s true!

and also rad. i am never this vocal about my emotions like EVER but this needs to be said your fics are obviously far from perfect, as are mine and everyone else's. but the thing about your works is that they're so well-sanded that it's impossible to find any rough edges or faults in them in terms of cohesion to a plot. your cast is never OOC and the amount of effort you devote to developing your takes on the characters as accurately as possible is unimaginably awe-inspiring.

28. How well do you handle criticism when it comes to your writing?

I’d like to believe I take it often well to try and improve because that’s always my goal. if someone is rude lol that’s not constructive snd is unhelpful. If I disagree with criticism I’ll explain why !

Not yet, but I have some plot ideas I think will let me test this.

elliott fuji, a japanese-american award winning photographer who is erina’s boyfriend in ‘soma panics’ which..causes soma’s panic LOL he’s 30 with slightly wavy black hair. I still haven’t pinpointed his personality just yet...he kind of humble brags for sure an artsy fucker and flirts maybe I’ll make him a lil shy though. he teaches sometimes, and becomes an adjunct photography professor in Tokyo so he can be with erina.

I am a slow. so slow. motivation who is she? I also write out of order, unfortunately a bit too often.

“You thought she would always wait for you, didn’t you Soma-kun? To always welcome you home.”

Soma drags his palms down his face and groans. He doesn’t like this at all. He doesn’t shy from confrontation but this is a whole different ballgame. Soma doesn’t play any ball.

“I guess..?” Is his reply, because he thinks he isn’t sure how to answer that.

“You guess?”

Just being questioned again is enough to crack Soma’s pathetic facade as if it was dropped chinaware and he lets out the longest sigh.

“No.”

35. Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!

I’ve mentioned it throughout this but the WIP I’ve nicknamed ‘soma panics’ is something I’m super excited to write, but it’s going on slowly...and almost completely out of order. out of all of my writing it showed off that particular habit of mine, along with “what is this, a shoujo manga?!” though the latter is currently being written chronologically now that I’ve posted chapter one and is pretty solid in direction. it was originally supposed to be a one shot but I got impatient and wanted to post at least something for the sorina / soueri fandom.

however, because ‘soma panics’ (I won’t call it that LOL) is my baby I want to keep true to my rule of refusing to post it until I have a draft of the entire fic finished and I’m satisfied with the main points pretty much. due to my writing out of order, I’m worried I’ll change my mind about scenes or want to reflect things in earlier chapters for later ones etc etc

I joined the SnS fandom extremely late, as season five was airing. I was a fan of the manga five years ago and dropped it because I forgot to check for updates when I caught up 😔 I really want to bang out the different fics and aus for sorina that I have before the fandom fizzles out entirely but tbh I’m writing for myself, I’m manifesting what I want to see and I’ll just share it with all my friends to read if no one else will. cause I’m slow broski I dunno what writing fast even is like LMAO I do really want to write faster though, so I can contribute more and let the words free from the discord dms....
