AF2 Donna Route 1/14: Sealing the Tarocco
Tumblr media
Our fate…is in our own hands. And to prove that…
~*Scene: Conference Room*~
Mondo: The seat of Papa will go to…
Felicita: Wait, Papa!!
Mondo: What?
Felicita: It’s too early to decide that
Mondo: You’re being stubborn
Felicita: You can end this at any time
Luca: Ojou-sama…
Felicita: So let me try first
Nova: Felicita…
Felicita: I spoke with Neve before dealing with Acqua Tempesta
Debito: …
Felicita: We can always fight for what’s important to us
Pace: Ojou…
Felicita: This is the time to fight
Dante: Ojou-san…
Felicita: I won’t do anything risky. So please just give me some time
Felicita: Papa said that it’s his responsibility for unsealing the Tarocco…
Felicita: But I think Mama and Liberta’s bruises are because I used the Wheel of Fortune
Mondo: ……
Felicita: Just let me do what I can
Felicita: So you and the Family won’t have any regrets
Jolly: …Hm
Liberta: Papa, I want to help Ojou, too
Ash: Well, I guess there’s no point in debating whether she’s right
Ash: But Strawberry Head does make a moving speech
Sumire: Mondo…I think our daughter truly has surpassed you
Mondo: She has
Mondo: I’ll give you a chance
Mondo: Felicita, you do make a point
Mondo: I can end it at any time
(*pat) Mondo: You’ve grown
~*Scene: Felicita’s Room*~
(*knock knock)
Luca: Ojou-sama
Ash: Coming in
Felicita: Luca, Ash… What are you doing here?
Luca: Sorry for the intrusion. I’m sure you must be gathering your thoughts
Luca: But perhaps we could help you in some way
Ash: Talking to people can often give you more ideas
Ash: And we’re experts in this department
Felicita: Thank you
Ash: But you’ve got a rough idea, right? You sounded way too confident back there to not have a plan
Felicita: ……
>I don’t. I was going to ask Gli Amanti
>I wonder if we can use the properties of the Tarocco
Luca: Ojou-sama… were we wrong to think you’ve grown?
Felicita: But, it’s still something only I can do
Ash: It’s not a bad idea, but I think it’s too unreliable. Wouldn’t your dad cry to hear that?
Luca: The Tarocco’s…properties?
Ash: What properties?
Felicita: I’m still thinking
Ash: That’s not promising
Felicita: I was thinking about why Gli Amanti would always tell me things
Felicita: But Fortuna has never spoken to me
Luca: I see. La Temperanza has never spoken to me either
Ash: Same here
Felicita: Gli Amanti keeps saying that they want me to stay their host
Felicita: I still don’t know why I have two Tarocco, but this might be a lead
Ash: Maybe it’s just genetic. The Tarocco could just like your type
Luca: Right… I think that’s possible
Luca: The Tarocco chooses their hosts. And you were chosen by two of them, Ojou-sama
Felicita: Let’s say I tried to form a new contract. What would happen?
Ash: Has it been tried before?
Luca: Right…
Luca: Debito, Pace, and I were made to try it many times, but we never could contract another card
Luca: But why that…?
Felicita: Vir wants to seal Neve’s Star Tarocco. That’s why he wants to kill Papa
Felicita: What if we no longer had a reason to?
Ash: You mean he won’t kill him if he doesn’t have a reason to?
Luca: Even if that was possible, it’s only buying time
Luca: We still can’t seal the World Tarocco
Felicita: Right. We have to figure that out
Fukurota: Hoot!
Ash: Hey, isn’t she telling you to sleep, Strawberry Head?
Luca: Ah, it sure is getting late
Felicita: Yeah. Let’s talk more tomorrow
Ash: Okay. We should ask Jolly too
Luca: Ojou-sama, I do have one request
Felicita: What?
Luca: Even if you find out something from Gli Amanti in your dreams tonight, please don’t take any action on your own
Luca: Just promise me that
Felicita: Alright
Felicita: That’s why you came here, right?
Ash: You’re so overprotective
Luca: Say whatever you like
Luca: I know that Ojou-sama has grown, but she can still be reckless so I had to caution her
Felicita: I know
Felicita: Buona notte
(*door closes)
Felicita: (I wonder why the Tarocco need human hosts)
Felicita: (And why did Vir create the Tarocco?)
Felicita: (Will I find out if I ask?)
Felicita: (…I have so many questions)
Felicita: (If only everyone’s Tarocco could go back to how they were…)
Felicita: (Back in one spot…)
Felicita: (Like maybe if we could move them all to me…)
Felicita: (But there’s no way that’s possible)
Felicita: (If it was like my Wheel of Fortune…)
Felicita: (Then Gli Amanti could use my love to activate their powers)
Felicita: (Can all the Tarocco be sealed inside me?)
Felicita: (…But that’d be too easy…)
Felicita: (And, even if it was possible…)
Gli Amanti: [My dear host, your idea isn’t too far off]
Gli Amanti: [I’m impressed that you came up with that. Surprsingly, you think similarily to our creator]
Gli Amanti: [You’re incredibly pure-hearted, filled with love, and foolish]
Gli Amanti: [If that’s what you want to try, I’ll lend you power. I’m sure it would be interesting]
Gli Amanti: [All of the Tarocco hosts love you deeply. And the Tarocco are influenced by their hosts]
Gli Amanti: [You could very well, lead them all]
Gli Amanti: [We still see you as a suitable host]
Gli Amanti: [Offer your blood, and the others may just transfer themselves to you]
Gli Amanti: [At this point, you may even be able to host the World]
Gli Amanti: [What will you do, my host?]
Gli Amanti: [You have much to protect. But—]
Felicita: I also have a lot to lose?
Felicita: The choice…lies with me
>Accept Papa’s decision
>Contract the Tarocco
Felicita: It doesn’t look like I can keep my promise with Papa…
Felicita: But to sacrifice Papa…
Felicita: —I’ve always been protected, so now it’s my turn to protect him!
(Choose again)
(Continue below)
Felicita: I’m not being manipulated by Gli Amanti, am I?
Felicita: But we’ve been together for so long, that doesn’t matter anymore
Felicita: I agree with Gli Amanit’s suggestion
Felicita: To protect those important to me
Felicita: And my own heart
Felicita: I’ll decide my own path
~*Scene: Mondo’s Office*~
Mondo: You want to contract the Tarocco!?
Felicita: Since I’m telling you first, you should know how serious I am
Sumire: …I think you should do as you see fit
Sumire: How about you, Mondo?
Mondo: I…
Felicita: …
Mondo: …

The Things You Give Pt 14
Steven Hyde x Read
Happy Holidays and New Years everyone! I can’t believe we’re already 14 parts in. I’m so glad you guys are loving the story! Tag list is open if you want to be a part of it :)
Tumblr media
Beep, beep, beep.
The sound of the heart monitor was the only noise resourcing from the room. Hyde sat beside y/n, watching as her chest gently rose and fell, and listened to Red interrogate Eric from the hallway.
“What do you mean you don’t know what happened?!” Red asked him in his usual gruff tone.
“I don’t, Dad!” Eric defended. “All I saw is that she was sick and she was trying to get Fez and Hyde to stop fighting and she just dropped!”
“And you didn’t catch her?” Red fumed. “She could’ve gotten hurt!”
“Well, I didn’t expect her to fall!” he responded.
“Red, honey, your yelling isn’t making anything easier,” Kitty said quietly.
           “For me it is!”
           “Red,” she said more sternly.
“Well, have they figured out what’s wrong with her?” the worried father asked impatiently.
“No, they haven’t,” Kitty answered calmly.
“What’s taking them so long?” he grumbled. “We’ve been here for hours!”
Kitty blinked at her husband. “We’ve been here for twenty-five minutes.”
“And our daughter has been unconscious for forty! My little girl is in there now and I want answers, dammit!”
“Red, she’s fine,” Kitty said, trying to soothe him. “She’s tucked in a bed right now with monitoring and her breathing is normal. They drew her blood and we’re just waiting on the test results.”
“They need to come faster!” he shouted, causing Kitty to frantically look around and smile nervously as her coworkers stared at them.
“Hey, Mom, if Dad has another heart attack, at least it’ll save us another ambulance bill since we’re already at a hospital,” Eric said grinning, sarcasm bleeding into his tone.
           “Can it, dumbass!” Red snarled.
Inside the room, y/n groaned, hearing the arguing from outside and slowly opened her eyes, seeing nothing but white. Her head felt someone was taking a jack hammer to her skull. Steven noticed and waited anxiously by her side.
“Why do they have to be so loud?” she mumbled.
Steven sighed in relief and grabbed her hand. “Are you okay? How’re you feeling?”
“I think so,” she croaked. “I feel like crap and I’m tired.”
Hyde chuckled softly and leaned over, kissing her head softly. “You scared the crap out of me.”
“What happened? Am I in the hospital?” she asked, not letting go of his hand.
Hyde paused, searching her face. “You don’t—? You fainted and hit the ground pretty hard. They think you may have gotten a concussion.”
“Well, that explains my headache,” she grumbled and rubbed her head. She looked at Steven who was still looking at her with worried eyes. “Where is everyone?”
“Your parents are out in the hall with your brother, Fez is here but went to find ice cream.” He rolled his eyes at the thought but continued. “And everyone else is on their way.”
“How long have I been out?”
“About forty-five minutes. I’m glad you’re okay,” he answered and pulled her hand up to his lips, placing a gentle kiss.
If it wasn’t for her head screaming at her, her heart would be fluttering away like butterflies, but all she wanted to do was numb the pain. A sharp pain surged through her skull, causing her to hiss.
“What’s wrong? Are you alright?” he asked her.
She tried to nod, but that caused more pain to her skull. “My head hurts. A lot.”
“That’s what happens when you smack your head on concrete,” he answered. “You have a pretty good-sized knot on your head.”
Y/n reached up and felt her scalp until she felt a painful bump behind the side of her head. She winced at her own touched. “Ow.”
“Maybe you shouldn’t do that,” Hyde chuckled. “I’m going to go get something to drink. Do you want anything?”
Her stomach churned at the thought of liquids and scrunched up her nose. “No, but I probably should. I’ll take a ginger ale if they have any.”
“You got it, doll,” he said and walked out just as the doctor was stepping in.
“Good afternoon, Miss Forman,” the middle-aged, dark haired man said. “I’m Dr. Kipp. I’ve been looking over you while you were out. How are you feeling?”
“Not gonna lie, Doc, I feel pretty lousy,” Y/n responded. “I’ve been sick for the last couple of days. Not being able to keep anything down, I’m achy all over…I’m starting to wonder if I have the stomach flu or something. On top of that, my head is killing me.”
“Well, you passed out due to your blood pressure dropping which caused a lack of blood to the brain, but it’s definitely not the stomach flu,” Dr. Kipp answered casually, setting down his clipboard as he went over to the sink to wash his hands.
“How do you know that?” Y/n questioned him.
“Well, it can’t be because you’re pregnant.”
                                                  --Time Skip—
“How’s y/n doing?” Donna asked as she got to the waiting room, flowers in hand.
“Oh, that’s so sweet that you got her flowers!” Kitty gushed, making Donna smile. “And she’s awake. The doctor is in there right now with her.”
“Oh, good,” she said and sat down next to Fez who was quietly eating ice cream. “Where did you get the ice cream?”
“Oh, I told them that y/n was my wife and they let me get ice cream!” he replied stoically.
“So, you’re telling me that you hit on her and now you’re telling people she’s your wife?” Hyde seethed, holding a cup of coffee in one and a ginger ale can in the other.
“Can you kids not fight for five damn minutes please?” Red asked impatiently. “It’s bad enough that we’re here, I don’t want to have to hear about your petty drama.”
“Hey, don’t get mad at me. You’re the reason she’s here in the first place,” said Fez.
“Why would it be your fault?” Kitty asked Hyde.
“It’s not!” Hyde replied. “He’s just saying crap so I can knock his teeth in.”
Kitty and Red squinted their eyes at the teens for a moment. “What on earth is going on here?” Kitty asked, growing frustrated.
“Nothing,” Hyde answered through gritted, glaring daggers at Fez.
Fez returned the glare. “You know, Hyde, I often wonder what it would be like to hook up with my best friend’s sister. Don’t you?”
Hyde’s expression hardened. “It’s a good thing we’re in a hospital because when I break your bones, you’re already here!” Hyde aggressively moved towards Fez, but was stopped short by Eric getting in between them.
“Okay! That’s enough,” he sang-song. “Hyde, why don’t you sit over there quietly and don’t beat up Fez.” He turned to Fez. “And Fez? Shut the hell up.”
Hyde jerked himself away. “I’m going to go give this to y/n.”
Back in the room, y/n felt like the wind had been knocked out of her lungs. “I’m…what?”
“Pregnant,” he responded in a faux enthusiastic voice. “That was through the blood test. We’re going to have you take urine test as well. So,” he pulled out a plastic cup. “You’re going to pee in this cup and when you’re finished, pull the string and a nurse will come in and collect it. Then, we’ll do a full examination on you to make sure your head is okay.”
Y/n nodded numbly and mindlessly grabbed the cup in her hand. “Okay…”
“Probably not the news you were expecting, huh?” he asked.
Y/n chuckled weakly. “No. Not at all.”
“Well, I’ll be back soon with your test results.”
He walked out the door, leaving y/n alone in the room. Her hands felt numb and she felt like there was static all around her. How could she be pregnant? How did she let this happen? And oh God, what was she going to say to Steven? Her eyes widened. Her parents?!
A sudden heavy weight was shattered onto her chest and her eyes began to water. How was she going to tell everyone? What if her dream came true and she truly was alone? Could she raise a baby on her own? Where would she live? What job would she have to do to support her baby? Was she even going to be a good mom? Will her children grow up to be decent people? What if they’re born with health conditions? Or they fall ill? Can she even count on herself to get out of bed at 2 AM to go to the 24 hour store to buy cough medicine when they get sick? How do you even change a poopy diaper? How is she going to react when they’re teenagers and they’re learning how to drive or get their first boyfriend or girlfriend? What kind of mom was she going to be? What kind father was Steven going to be? Will he even stick around?
With all these questions swimming through her head, she didn’t notice Steven walk back in. “I got that ginger ale you—hey, you okay?”
Y/n snapped her head up as she was yanked out of her thoughts, which she silently thanked heaven above for. “Y-yeah, I’m fine.”
“You sure?” he asked as he set down the drink on the table next to her. “You don’t look fine. In fact, you look kinda pale.”
“Yeah, um,” she stuttered, swallowing hard and waved her hand casually. “The doctor says I passed out due to lack of blood to the brain. Blood tests came back normal, but he wants me to take a urine test just to be sure.” Not a total lie. Just left out a part.
“Oh, okay. Do you need help getting to the bathroom?”
“I think I got it,” she answered truthfully and slowly got out of bed, barley able to feel her legs. She ambled her way to the bathroom, dragging the IV along with her. She felt Steven’s stare burning a hole in the back of her head, but she couldn’t think of what he was thinking right now. She couldn’t. It would drive her to an anxiety attack.
She closed the door quietly and baby stepped her way to the toilet. She passed by the mirror and did a double take to her reflection. Her ponytail was a complete rats nest, her eyes had dark circles under them, and her normally rosy cheeks had lost all color. She looked half dead and she wanted to cringe away. She turned her head to the side and saw the swelled up bump on her skull. She winced when she saw it and let out a sigh. She really wanted to curl up into a ball and sleep for 72 hours.
She made her way to the toilet and shakily did her business in the cup. When she was finished, she left in on the counter in the bathroom and pulled the string. After she was finished washing up, she walked out to meet Steven sitting in the chair.
           “Hey,” he said gently whispered.
“Hey,” she answered in the same manner. “Where is everyone?”
“In the waiting room. Do you want to see them?”
Her heart dropped, but she needed to play it cool. “Yeah, that would be nice.”
He nodded and opened the door to call them in. She got back in bed with Hyde’s help, making sure her IV wouldn’t get pulled out of her arm.
“Oh, y/n,” Kitty sobbed and rushed over to y/n who was sitting up fully and wrapped her arms around her. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?”
Y/n barley reciprocated the hug. “I’m okay, Mom.”
“When we saw you being loaded up into the ambulance, I thought I was going to die right there,” Kitty responded, stepping away from her daughter.
           “I’m fine, Mom. Really.”
“What did the doctor say?” she pried.
           “Uh…they don’t know yet,” Y/n replied. “They’re taking a urine sample.”
“Well, a person fainting is never a good thing,” Kitty stated matter-of-factly. “It means your blood pressure dropped and you weren’t getting enough blood flow to the brain. Those things just don’t happen.”
“I know. They’re running tests right now,” Y/n said and leaned back against the pillows.
“When will we find out?” Red pushed.
“I don’t know,” Y/n responded growing annoyed. “I don’t know anything.” Lie, lie, LIE.
“Well, we better find out soon,” Red said. “This place gives me the creeps.”
“If you wanna leave, you can. I’m a big girl, I can leave on my own,” Y/n responded.
“No, no, I wanna be here in this room when the doctor comes and tells us what’s wrong,” Kitty said stubbornly.
Y/n’s heart and stomach dropped. There was no way anyone was going to be in this room when the doctor came back with the results. Positive or not, she didn’t need her parents asking questions and then finding out about her and Steven.
She kept her face and voice as calm as possible. “No, no it’s okay. Really. I don’t know if I want everyone in here anyway. In fact, it’s probably best that I’m alone.”
           “Oh, nonsense. I—”
“Kitty, if she wants to be alone, then we’ll leave her alone. She’s an adult now. She doesn’t need us in here,” Red said, signaling to his wife that they leave. “Besides, the Packers’s game is on and I wanna go home.”
Kitty sighed, annoyed. “Fine. Fine, I’ll leave, but I want to hear everything, missy.”
Y/n’s eyes widened a fraction and her heart beat violently against her blood cage. She could practically feel her blood pumping through her veins. She nodded numbly. “Okay.”
Kitty nodded and kissed y/n on the head before leaving. She felt some tension leave her body as she watched her parents leave. She leaned her head back against the pillow and closed her eyes, feeling completely drained.
           “Are you okay?” Donna asked.
           “Yeah,” she mumbled. “Just…feeling depleted.”
“Well, you can’t go to sleep yet,” Hyde said. “You might have a concussion.”
           “I want sleep,” she whined.
“I know, but I’d rather you be exhausted than not wake up at all,” he responded.
She glared at him through half open eye lids and grumbled, “I hate you.”
           He chuckled lightly. “I know.”
The door to the room opened revealing Kelso, Fez and Jackie.
“Hey, y/n, how are you feeling?” Kelso asked.
“Bout as great as I look,” she replied, a weak smile playing her lips.
“So, super sexy,” Fez responded cheekily but that smile quickly faded when Hyde punched his shoulder. “Ow.”
“Remember: Respect,” was all Hyde said before sitting back down.
“I heard what happened,” Kelso responded. “And Brooke made me bring you these.” He handed her a small bouquet of yellow daisies and lilies.
Y/n chuckled, accepting the flowers. “Tell Brooke I said thank you for the nice gesture. And tell her to bring the baby around soon. I want to meet my niece.”
Kelso’s face brightened. “You…you really think of her that way?”
Y/n nodded. “Why wouldn’t I? We’ve all been best friends since we were little and it only makes sense that we look at each other more than just friends now.”
“Like lovers?” Fez asked her seductively.
“Do you have a death wish?” Hyde spat.
“Okay, Steven that’s enough,” Y/n said as sternly as she could. “And Fez, shut up.”
Fez pouted and went and sat in the corner of the room.
“You know what? My mind is made up,” Kelso said. Y/n stared at him curiously, everyone joining in.
“Kelso, in order for your mind to be made up, you have to have a brain,” Eric commented.
Kelso shot Eric a glare before turning his head back towards y/n and Hyde. “I’ve been spending a lot of time with Betsy lately and Brooke is really starting to trust me.”
“Okay, and that makes up your mind for?” Y/n asked him.
“Hang on, just let me finish,” he said smiling. “Brooke is starting to trust me so much she’s even allowing me to pick the godparents.”
“Oh, that’s great!” Y/n gleefully responded. “I’m so happy for you.”
“And there’s only one rule. It can’t be Fez,” Kelso added on.
Fez nodded. “That is a good rule.”
“Godparents?” Donna mumbled to Eric. “Like we need any more responsibilities.”
“I know,” Eric whispered back, rolling his eyes. “Such a burden.”
“I’ve been thinking about it a lot and it’s a big deal. So,” Kelso said, stepping closer to the bed where Eric and Donna sat. “Eric, Donna.”
           “Uh, oh,” Eric sang-song.
“Please scooch over so I can ask Hyde and y/n if they’ll be Betsy’s godparents?”
Y/n looked at Hyde with excited eyes. “Really?!”
           “What the hell?!” Eric exclaimed.
“Hyde and y/n?” Donna asked insulted.
“You picked Hyde and y/n?” Jackie asked, equally insulted. “Why didn’t you ask someone else? Like me?”
           “Because you’re single,” Kelso deadpanned.
           Jackie crossed her arms. “And?”
“And you need to be in a relationship to be a godparent,” Kelso responded slowly like he was scared to continue speaking. “That’s why they call it godparents. You can’t be single and be a godparent. That’s just stupid.” He laughed and rolled his eyes.
Jackie stared at him in disbelief, trying to make sense of what he said. “That barley makes any sense, you moron.”
“Hey, hey, hey, he chose us. Let him speak,” Y/n said not trying to contain her glee. “Not that I’m questioning your choice because, you know, you chose us, but why us?”
“Because I really trust you and I think you’d be fantastic with Betsy,” he responded sweetly.
“And you don’t think we won’t?” Eric asked.
“Yeah, you don’t trust us?” Donna chimed in.
“Well, to be fair, I’ve seen you drop almost everything you’ve held in your hands,” Kelso responded. “And you’ve never really taken care of a baby.”
“Yes we have!” Donna defended. “Remember that time last year when Laurie had to babysit that one baby and I ended up changing her diaper when she couldn’t? I was a freakin’ natural!”
“Yeah, I mean, if you gave me the honor of being godmother, I would be popular, head cheerleader, and voted best legs. This would give me another title,” Jackie argued.
“Would you guys relax?” Hyde asked everyone. “It’s not that big of deal.”
“Yeah, it’s not like he’s shunning you guys,” Y/n responded.
“You’re all still going to be aunts and uncles,” Kelso defended.
“Yeah, that’s easy for you to say,” Jackie grumbled and joined Fez in the back.
“We can be good godparents,” Eric argued. “You can trust us.”
“Eric, remember Goldie, the goldfish?” Y/n asked.
           “Yeah,” he responded.
“Remember how you killed Goldie by taking him out of the fish bowl?”
“I needed to hug something,” Eric answered coldly. “Besides, I’m not going to have to flush a baby down the toilet!”
“Either way, man, thanks. I’m honored,” Hyde said and clapped his hand with Kelso’s and pulled him in for a bro hug.
“If I have another kid, I’ll make you two godparents. I promise,” Kelso said.
           Eric huffed. “Yeah, yeah.”
“Alright, I have to take a leak,” Hyde announced.
“And I’m going to go find some more ice cream,” Fez said.
“Can you guys make sure y/n doesn’t fall asleep?” Hyde continued.
“You got it pal!” Kelso responded and watched as Hyde and Fez walked out.
“I’m not a child,” Y/n responded once they were out of ear shot. “I am perfectly capable of looking after myself, thank you.”
“Kelso!” Fez called out and barged back into the room. “Kelso, come quick! There’s a hot nurse fight happening downstairs! Hurry before it ends!”
“See ya,” Kelso said and scrambled out the room, leaving Jackie, Eric, and Donna alone.
“Yeah, I’m leaving too,” Jackie said pouting. “I don’t want to sit here and be reminded that I wasn’t picked for godparent. I may have to do some shopping therapy to get over it. Bye!” She squealed and walked out, leaving just the twins and Donna.
“Do you need anything sis?” Eric asked. “Some water? Fluff up your pillows? Relinquish your title of godparent over to me?”
Y/n gave her twin a look before scoffing. “No, thanks. I’m fine.”
“Fine. I’ll just go see if they have any teddy bears in the gift shop that reads ‘Not Quite the Best Godparents’ and maybe it’ll be tear absorbent!” With that, he stormed out the room, leaving Elena in stunned silence.
Donna rolled her eyes. “I better go after him. Last time I left him alone while he was upset, he thought I didn’t care about him anymore and didn’t speak to me for three days.”
She left, leaving y/n alone in the room. Again. She leaned back once more, enjoying the silence, but now that she was alone again, she realized just how loud the silence was. All she could think was pregnant, pregnant, pregnant.
“What am I going to do?” she mumbled to herself.
The door to the room opened again; Dr. Kipp entering once more.
“Hi Miss. Forman,” Dr. Kipp greeted. “We got your test results back.”
           She gulped. “And?”
He sat down on the stool next to her bed and looked her in the eyes. “It’s positive.”
Her heart dropped completely, and it felt like the wind had been knocked out of her. “I’m pregnant?”
“I know this is a lot to take in, but we need to gather some more information from you so we can determine how far along you are. But first the basics. What’s your full name?”
           “Y/f/n y/m/n Forman.”
He scratched her answer down on his clipboard. “Birthday?”
           “May 18, 1959.”
“So, that makes you eighteen years old, correct?”
           Y/n nodded.
           “Okay, and your current address?”
           “416 Edlebrook Ave.”
“Beautiful,” the doctor responded and looked up from his clipboard. “Do you know who the father is?”
Tears started to burn her eyes as she nodded her head. “I do.”
           “What’s his name?”
           “Steven James Hyde.”
“When was your last menstrual cycle?”
           “Somewhere in mid September.”
“And today is October 19,” he said more to himself. “So, you are about three weeks along. Now, I’m going to give this information to the nurse and have her give you a pamphlet and a referral to an OB/GYN. I’ll have them give you a call to set up an appointment. Do we have permission to leave a message with someone if you’re not available?”
“Uh…no, just me is fine, thanks. I’m not ready to tell people yet.”
He nods. “Understandable. Now, let’s look at your head and see how you’re doing.” As he took out a flashlight and started examining her eyes, Hyde walked back in the room.
“Hey, Doc. How’s she doing?” he asked.
“Well, I’m not seeing any signs of concussion, so that’s good.” He turned off the light and started feeling around underneath her jaw to the back of her head where he felt her bump. She winced and he took note of it. “She seems great besides that nasty bump. Just put some ice on it if it starts to hurt and take some aspirin for the pain. Otherwise, you’re good to go.”
           “What about her test results?”
Dr. Kipp glanced at y/n and saw her terrified look. He glanced back at Steven who looked worried. “Test results came back normal and she’s perfectly healthy.” He noticed Steven visibly relax. “Anything else, she may discuss with you at her discretion.”
Y/n mouthed a thank you to the doctor who gave her a subtle nod and finished writing his notes on his clipboard. “I’ll have a nurse discharge you. You have a good rest of your night and rest up.”
           Y/n nodded. “Thank you.”
With that, he left the room, leaving y/n wanting to vomit—and not from feeling sick this time. She continued to sit in her bed, not being able to properly process the information. Her world felt fuzzy and she felt like she was going to pass out for a second time. She could hear Steven talking to her, but it was all garbled and muffled as if she were underwater. Was her dream right? Was she going to be disowned by her family? Is she going to disappoint her mother? Oh no, how is Red going to take this? She and Steven are dead. Dead like road kill.
She heard Steven’s muffled voice again, but this time louder. She blinked and looked up at Steven. “I’m sorry, what?”
He knitted his eyebrows at her. “I said, are you okay? Do you need help getting dressed?”
She shook her heavy head and slowly slid out of bed. “I should be okay.” She untied her hospital gown, allowing it to pool around her feet. She shivered as the cold air hit her bare skin and turned to see her clothes balled up in a plastic bag. She slowly started dressing herself and felt Hyde’s eyes burn into her the whole time.
She finally looked up at him as she finished putting on her pajama top. “What’s up?”
“Are you sure you’re okay? You’re acting different.”
She nodded, not being able to look him in the eye. “Yeah, I think so. Just still not feeling well and feeling a little disoriented from the fall. But I think I’m good.”
He eyed her for a minute. “Okay,” he responded slowly. “As long as you don’t pass out on me again.”
She chuckled. “I think I’ll be okay.”
A knock came at the door and the nurse walked in. “Okay, Miss Forman. Here are your doctor’s notes to help you feel better. Plenty of rest and fluids. And—” She noticed Steven listening to her and she looked back down at the pamphlet in her hands and slid the doctor’s notes over it. “Here’s everything you else need to know. If you have any questions, there’s a number you can call and if you don’t get better or start to feel worse, come on back in.”
Y/n thanked her and quietly gathered the rest of her stuff and headed out with Steven. He guided her slowly into the camino and started up the car. She rested her elbow on the windowsill of the door and leaned her head into her hand, feeling like sleep will overtake her any minute now. Hyde placed a gentle hand on her thigh and lovingly rubber circles with his thumb.
“Let’s get you back in bed, yeah?”
She swallowed the lump in her throat and nodded, not being able to form words in fear she would start crying.
The drive home was deathly quiet as rain started to fall. The only noise emitting was outside as the rain fell onto the windshield. Not being able to handle the silence, Hyde reached over and turned on the radio, allowing the music to softly fill the car. It eased the tension slightly, allowing y/n to relax.
He pulled up in front of a supermarket and put the car in park.
“What are we doing here?” she croaked.
           “Do you want some soup?”
She gave him a small smile. “That would be nice. Thank you.”
He nodded and got out of the car, leaving it on so the heater would warm up y/n. Ever since the hospital, she’d been cold and not able to heat up as fast as she normally would. She shivered, realizing she didn’t bring a jacket or her robe. She looked around the car and noticed a blanket behind the driver’s seat. She wrapped her cold fingers around the soft material and realized it was their sex blanket. She crunched up her nose a little, noticing some stains. “Ugh, gross,” she murmured before placing the clean side on her. The stench of sex filled her nostrils, but luckily it didn’t upset her stomach more than it already was.
She waited in the car for a few more minutes with the blanket pulled up to her chin and listened to the music. Paul Anka came on, singing (You’re) Having My Baby.
“Would you look at that,” she grumbled and changed the station. Stevie Wonder’s Isn’t She Lovely was on playing. “What the…” she grumbled and changed it to another station. A country song this time was playing. One that y/n didn’t know, but it was better than the others, so she left it on. She listened to the lyrics as they went:
The girls in New York City, they all march for women's lib And better homes and garden shows, the modern way to live And the pill may change the world tomorrow, but meanwhile, today Here in Topeka, the flies are a buzzin' The dog is a barkin' and the floor needs a scrubbin' One needs a spankin' and one needs a huggin' Lord, one's on the way
Oh gee, I hope it ain't twins, again.
“Are you kidding me?” She reached over and turned off the radio, choosing to sit in silence.
Just then the driver’s door opened and Steven clambered inside with a container of chicken soup in one hand and a pack of cigarettes in the other. “Here you go, doll.”
“Awe, thank you, baby.” She grabbed the container from his hands and allowed the warmth to thaw her icy ones.
“You turned off the music?” he questioned and started to beat the pack against the heel of his hand.
“Yeah, there was nothing good on.” Technically not a lie.
“Ah, makes sense,” he responded and noticed the blanket. He snorted teasingly. “Cold?”
“No, no, I’m burning up actually. The blanket was so I could feel like I’m in hell.”
He threw his add head back laughing. “Take it easy, Firecracker. If I hada known you were cold, I would’ve given you my jacket.”
She smirked at him. “Nah, this is fine. Thanks. Besides, I wouldn’t want you to be cold.”
“I’ll be fine,” he said and stuck a cigarette between his lips.
Y/n’s eyes widened and quickly ripped it from him mouth.
           “What the hell, y/n?”
“Uh, I’m still not feeling well enough. I don’t want hurl all over your car.”
He scrunched up his nose at her. “Fine. Fair point. But I’m smoking when I get back!”
Y/n shook her head at him. “What a rebel.”
“Damn straight,” he responded and turned the car on. “Don’t forget who you’re with.”
           “I couldn’t even if I wanted to.”
He smiled at her before backing up and driving them home for the night.
                                                 --Time Skip—
The next couple of days were brutal for y/n. Kitty wouldn’t stop interrogating her and y/n finally told something made up to get her off her back. Kitty didn’t believe her, but she backed off knowing she’ll be back again. She wanted so badly to tell Steven about her pregnancy, but every time she tried, it would come out a different sentence.
“I’m,” she would start, but right when she would look into his baby blue eyes, she would panic. “hungry. I’m hungry, starving! Can we go get something to eat?”
He would give her a weird look before agreeing and leaving to buy her food.
On top of that, morning sickness would rear its ugly head and she would end up being sick at the most random of times. She would be sitting down in the basement with her friends, feeling fine, but then she would feel her lunch coming back up and she would have to haul ass to the nearest restroom.
Everyone was worried about her, trying to get her to go back to the doctor, but she already knew. She had secretly made the appointment with the OB/GYN and wasn’t going to be able to see her until two weeks out. Until then, she had to keep lying and making excuses.
“It’s been almost a week,” Eric said one afternoon as they were all huddled into the basement. “You really should go back to the doctor.”
“I’d rather not,” Y/n said. “Going to the doctors for every sniff and cough is not my thing.”
“But it’s not just a sniffle or a cough,” he pointed out. “It’s like one minute you’re fine and then the next you’re throwing up Mom’s tuna casserole.”
“That was a long night,” she countered, remembering that night as she had to lay on the floor next to the toilet for hours because she couldn’t stop throwing up.
“Well, can you still keep down fluids?” Donna asked. “Like, chicken broth, orange juice, and tea?”
“Yeah, those are fine,” Y/n responded. “I just can’t seem to digest solid foods. But I was able to drink apple juice the other day with some bread. I’m also not nauseas all day anymore. I think I’m getting better.”
“Well, if you’re feeling better, wanna go shoot some hoops?” Kelso asked.
“Nah, but you guys can,” Y/n responded. “Me and Donna can just sit and ogle.”
“I knew you were checking me out,” Kelso purred and rubbed his chest.
“Not you, you dork,” Y/n said. “Hyde and Eric.”
“You ogle at me?” Eric said disgusted. “That’s gross.”
“No! Donna is, you dumbass!” Y/n said and stood up while Eric laughed. “Moron.”
She walked outside to the driveway with everyone behind her. As they reached the driveway, the boys split up into their group while Donna and y/n moved away to watch from the porch.
“So, Hyde, how’s it been with you and y/n?” Kelso asked under his breath, making sure the girls couldn’t hear.
“You know, things are going good, but with her being sick this past week, it’s been kinda hard not getting any action,” Hyde responded.
“Ewwwww! Could you please not?” Eric exclaimed. “I told you I don’t wanna hear it.”
“I know, that’s why I did it,” Hyde laughed and tossed the ball to Eric. “Your play. Go.”
The girls watched from the porch, admiring the way their men looked. Y/n wanted so badly to jump Hyde’s bones, but didn’t want to puke in the middle of it and ruin the mood. She and Donna chatted idly as they watched their men get sweaty and hot.
“Look, I know he’s your brother, but damn does he look hot when he’s all concentrated,” Donna swooned as she watched Eric block Fez’s slam dunk.
“Really? I think he looks constipated,” Y/n laughed.
In the middle of the play, Eric turned, facing them while trying to block Kelso from making his shot. The concentration he wore on his face made Donna drool but laugh.
“You’re right, he does look constipated,” she agreed and laughed even more.
“I know you don’t think so, but Steven just looks so good when he’s moving around like that,” Y/n said and stared at her boyfriend. “I mean, when he gets all sweaty and flushed, it makes me want him so bad.”
Donna chuckled. “So, how have you guys been?”
“We’ve been good. You know with me being this sick, we haven’t really gotten the time to do it or anything.”
“From the looks of it earlier and hearing Eric scream ‘ew’ makes me believe that Hyde already said something like that to him,” Donna laughed once more.
             Y/n chuckled. “Sounds about right.”
They fell into a comfortable silence as they watched the four boys play basketball. The entire time, y/n’s heart was hammering against her chest, debating on telling Donna right there. She couldn’t take keeping a secret this big from her best friend. Besides, if she wasn’t going to tell someone soon, she was going to explode.
“Donna,” she said shakily. “I have something to tell you.”
Seeing how serious her tone was, Donna perked up. “What?”
“I need you to promise me that you’re not going to freak out. Because if you do, everyone will hear it and I can’t have that right now.”
Donna’s heart started beating wildly against her own ribcage, now nervous and worried. “Okay?”
“And whatever happens, promise me you’ll still be my friend?”
           “Of course! What’s going on?”
Y/n took a deep breath before looking Donna in the eye. At that moment, she wanted to crawl up in a bawl and just cry. But she knew she couldn’t; She had to be strong. So instead she let out a shaky breath.
             “I’m pregnant.”

Quick Learner (Supernatural)
Tumblr media
Summary: Y/N is a Donna's that Dean couldn't take his eyes off her since she showed up at the Sheriff's station. Donna, Y/N, Sam and Dean went out for drinks where Y/N and competed with each other on the bull ride at the bar. They all parted ways when they were kidnapped and taken to a vamp nest.
Pairings: Dean x reader (platonic), Sam x reader (platonic), Donna x reader (platonic)
__
Dean and Sam rolled into Stillwater, Minnesota after Donna called them to help for a huge vamp nest of 1,000 vamps. They are wearing their suits and walking into the Stillwater's Sheriff stations. "Hiya boys," Donna greets.
"Hey," they greet as each of them give her a hug. "Alright, catch us up. What have you found out so far?" Dean asks. "Yeah, how did you find out there were 1,000 vamps in the nest?" Sam asked in a low voice.
"I was going hiking with some colleagues and we were ambused. I was the only one that survived." Donna says, making both Winchesters look at her softly. "I'm fine boys. It's just more motivation to find and kill those sons of bitches." "We'll help you out every step of the way, you just let us know if you want us to take over." Sam states.
"Donna!" Y/N calls as she walks in and everyone in the station looked at her. Y/N wears black, leather pants and white racer back crop top that is topped with combat boots and white and black plaid long sleeve coat. She was the literal definition of bougie and she looks goregous. She's been getting head turns and stares all day
She walks towards them and in Dean's mind, she was walking in slow motion. He drinks her in with his eyes and Sam notices. He hits Dean's chest and Dean clears his throat before sending Sam a glare. "Dude, stop devouring her with your eyes," Sam scolds. "What? She's gorgeous," Dean states. "Behave," Donna warns.
"Y/N," Donna greets with a smile as Y/N approaches them. Y/N's perfume puts Dean in a haze. "Hi," Y/N says with a wide smile and Dean's heart flutters.
He feels like a scared little boy that didn't know shit about woman, and he hates it. "Hey," Dean says. "Y/N, these are Agents Walker and Patton. Boys, this is Y/N Y/L/N." Donna introduces. "Pleasure to meet you guys,"
"The pleasure is ours," Dean says, clearly flirting with Y/N. "We still on for drinks, Donna?" Y/N asks. "Of course! You mind if these boys tag along?" "I don't see why not. The more the merrier." Y/N states, glancing over at Dean and Sam. "Well I'll let you lot get back to work. Just wanted to swing by," she adds.
"See ya!" Donna says and Y/N waves with a smile before leaving the station. Wolf whistles and men talking over one another. "Hey! If any of you try anything, your little ones will suffer." Donna snarks and the station went quiet before the deputies went back to their duties. "You two, Winchester." Donna says to Dean and he slowly covers his little ones with his hands.
--
Y/N, Donna, Sam and Dean walked into the bar and the first thing Dean and Y/N sees is the bulls ride in the far left corner. Y/N and Dean look at one another and Dean says, "Bet you ten dollars that you won't last thirty seconds on that bad boy,"
"Honey, I ride bad boys for sport. I'll be back to collect my ten dollars," Y/N states, swaying her hips as she walked over to the machine. The air left Dean's lungs as Y/N pulled her hair into a ponytail and slowly peels her long jacket off.
She truly was beautiful. She deserved something more than a one night stand. She's so genuine and happy with herself, it kind of inspired him to love himself like that.
Y/N's grip tightened on the belt on the neck of the machine bull and her other hand is free. The bull whips and pulls her all over the place and she is still hanging on.
A minute past and she still holding on, even with the frequent jerks. The bull came to a halt and Y/N broke the record of 7 minutes. Dean slaps a ten dollar bill into Y/N's hand and she sits down next to them with a victorious smile.
"Don't get too cocky. I can stay on there for 14 minutes if I wanted to." Dean taunts. "Oh really? Then be my guest," Y/N says, motioning to the bull. "Oh, this is going to be good." Sam says.
--
Dean winces as firmly holds an icepack to his temple. "I shouldn't have told the guy to speed up the machine." Dean groans. "You really shouldn't have," Y/N says.
She pulls the icepack away from the temple and hisses when she sees a purple welt. She caresses the surrounding skin and Dean's heart jumps.
"We shouldn't have started competing with one another. I'm sorry," "Don't be sorry, I had a fun time. Minus the landing on my face part," Dean says, making them both chuckle.
They were all walking to their cars intoxicated and didn't fully notice the black van that was slowly trailing them. The doors of the van flew open and the vamps knocked them over the head before carrying their limp bodies into the van and drove off.
Y/N and Sam were the first to come to because they were the less drunk out of group. "What the hell is happening?" Y/N asks, trying not to freak out and lure the attackers back into the room.
"Listen to me, you're going to see and hear things that you've never seen or heard. But I need you to keep a cool head for just a little while." Sam says and Y/N nods.
"Ah look, the hot one is awake." a man with auburn hair says as he walks in and lays eyes on Y/N. "Hey, don't you touch her." Sam snaps, which wakes Dean. "Guess we found out who the boyfriend is," the other man with blonde hair says.
Dean groans and the blondie says, "Rise and shine sleepy head." The guy with auburn hair squats down next to Y/N and brushes a hair away from her face.
"As hungry as I am, I would rather turn this one and make her my girlfriend. She is curvy in all the right place," he says, ghosting his hand over her breasts.
"I will kill you, you blood sucker." "Wrong, this one is the boyfriend." The blonde said before punching Dean in his face.
Y/N was frozen in both fear and anger and her gaze drops to the floor. "You want to live, don't you princess?" The man says, lifting her chin up and she pulls away from him. "Don't do that again," he warns.
Hours passed and the vamps didn't do anything to them besides rough them up when they talked too much. It was like they were waiting for someone. Donna was the last one to wake up and she was bleeding from her head. After brushing up her restraints against a free nail, Y/N breaks through them.
She quietly stands up and Sam and Dean shook their heads. "They can smell and hear everything you do." Sam mouths. But Y/N's fight or flight response got the best of her and she ran. Oddly enough, there was no one else on the floor they were at. This situation was getting weirder and weirder.
She ran to find a weapon to use and when she was sneaking around in search for an exit, she stumbled across a duffel bag with machetes, shot guns and vials of blood it looks like.
Y/N took the machete into her hand and she heard someone speak behind her. Without thinking, she swung the machete around until she heard a faint thunk. Her eyes widen when she sees the blade going straight through the blonde's face.
She winces and pulls the blade out of his face before grabbing the duffel and tip toeing back to the room. "Where did the hottie go?" you heard the auburn haired man say.
She gently set down the duffel bag and waits until the voice grew closer to her before cutting his head off. Her breathing sounds were getting faster and faster as her eyes widen with shock. She releases a loud exhale before using the machete to break their restraints.
"I thought you left us," Donna says. "Hell no, you're stuck with me, Donna Hanscum." They exchange a smile before Y/N says, "I found a bag full of machetes. I'm assuming that it belonged to one of their victims." She picks the bag up and sets it at their feet.
Sam and Dean looks at Y/N with surprise and she notices. "What?" "You just killed two vamps without any hunting experience." Sam explains. "It was out of instinct. I wanted to live and not many things can survive their head being chopped off so I took a chance."
"Yeah, but you could have left us. Any one else would have ran without looking back. It takes courage to fight back." Dean says. "If I did that then who else will kick your ass at bull riding." Y/N jokes, but she's clearly still freaked out by everything.
"We should move out. More of them are bound to come when they notice they're missing," Y/N adds before cleaning off her machete and leaving the room. "She'll make a damn good hunter," Sam says to Donna. "Damn right," Dean states.

parting is such sweet sorrow
Written for @justagirlinafandomworld ‘s time travel challenge!!!
i’ve been rewatching doctor who lately so this is set late season 6, somewhere between episodes 13 and 14 in an AU where the reader (from our time) travelled with the doctor for a bit. for anyone who needs their memory jogged, the doctor thinks he’s about to die at lake silencio and only has a little while left before he has to go there.
Prompt: “Before I go, I just want you to know that I do love you. You were/are my everything.”
Pairing: Eleventh Doctor x Reader
Word Count: 2k
Warnings: angstttt
≿━━━━━━━━༺❀༻━━━━━━━━≾
He only had a few hours left, and there was only one thing he could even conceive of doing; one last loose thread to knot. And so, at 8 pm on a Tuesday, he turned up on her doorstep.
The windows were dark, but the porch light was still on. The Doctor swallowed the lump in his throat, raising a closed fist to the wooden door. He stood perfectly still, knuckles a hairsbreadth from the peeling, painted wood, but with every second that ticked by, he came no closer to knocking.
He could hear her crying.
Was it worth it, to ease her pain for a mere moment, only to magnify it the moment he left? Just so that he could see her, one last time? Was he really so selfish?
The Doctor took a shaky breath, eyes falling closed.
He knocked.
≿━━━━━━━━༺❀༻━━━━━━━━≾
You didn’t bother turning on the lights, but you left the porch light on and the front door unlocked, just in case. Not that he’d need it; not that a dark porch or locked door ever stopped him. But a small part of you could only hope that it would be invitation enough for him to come back; that if you acted like he’d return, then somehow, he’d walk right through your front door, face alight with a cheeky grin as he fixed his bow tie and rambled on of otherworldly beauties. As if any marvel could hold so much as a candle to him; the mad man with a box, a heart of gold, and a sonic screwdriver.
But your porch remained empty, and you sank numbly into the couch. He was gone. He wasn’t coming back; he’d… left.
“It’s too dangerous, Y/N. If not now, then when? When is the right time to say goodbye? When I’m standing over your broken body?”
You could still feel his harsh gaze clinging to you, the hardness of his voice as it lodged sharply into your chest. The warmth of his last hug, the flicker of softness in his eyes, and then… the cold emptiness that he left behind.
Clutching a pillow to your chest, you rattled a loose breath that broke into a sob, that turned into another, and suddenly, the despair caught up with you. Your chest hurt with every wretched cry, and you couldn’t breathe through the sheer hurt of it. Of the loneliness. Of the loss.
He really was gone, wasn’t he? And you’d never even told him that…
There was a knock at the door.
“Hellooo? Anyone home?” The voice was tight, lacking its usual flair, but its owner was unmistakable.
With tears still drying on your cheeks and a spark of hope blooming in your chest, you hurtled upright, tripping over your own feet in your rush to the door. It swung open before you could reach the doorknob, and you stopped in your tracks.
He stood there like one of Michelangelo’s angels, a portrait of silhouetted, elegant solemnity, haloed by the warm yellow porchlight. The Doctor’s eyes met yours, the corners of them crinkling as his gaze softened in something almost reminiscent of pity.
“It’s—it’s you?” Your voice came as a gasp so quiet it was almost lost in the space between you, but he still heard it. He always heard you.
“It’s me,” he confirmed, a sad smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. “Can I come in?” His hand was still resting tentatively on the doorknob, and there was a solemness in his eyes that you weren’t sure you’d ever seen before.
“You—you just left,” you said, avoiding his question. “Like, an hour ago. Why—why are you here?”
The Doctor paused, gaze flicking to the floor. “That was… a while ago, for me,” he admitted, voice soft and captured by the whisper of the evening air. “I came because… I have something I need to do. And… I needed to say goodbye.”
“A while? How long? What do you need to do? Doctor, what are you talking about?” Your heart pounded—his seriousness was making you nervous, the exhausted energy that radiated off him draining and perturbing.
“A while…” He chuckled. “Well, I guess my while is a fair bit different to yours, eh? You’re only human… you all shine so brightly, but only for a short while. I… I’m very old, Y/N.” He avoided your eyes, and something in his voice broke you.
“Doctor… come inside. Let’s talk, yeah?”
“Talk…” A tiny smile crossed his face. “Yes, let’s talk. I always did enjoy our talks. I’ve missed them.”
You smiled back, albeit uncertainly. “Yeah, me too. I’m gonna put some tea on… sit down, okay?” You waited for him to take a seat before heading to the kitchen, mind heavy with rumination. He seemed… vulnerable, in a way you’d never seen him before. Like his mind was worlds away, lost in a time both so long ago and so far in the future.
The kettle squealed, and you jumped.
Hands weighed with two steaming mugs, you walked back to the living room, half expecting him to be gone when you arrived. However, there he sat, still as a statue, just as you had left him.
“Here.” Your voice was gentle, but it still pulled his eyes up quicker than lightning. You handed him his tea, sat down next to him, and waited.
The two of you sat in silence for a long while; you finished your tea, while the Doctor’s full mug grew cold in his hands.
“Thank you,” he said suddenly.
You blinked, observing him questioningly.
“For the tea,” he clarified. “Very nice. You always did make good tea…”
“Doctor… you’re scaring me. What’s going on in that head of yours?”
“Scaring you? Oh. I didn’t... my head? Oh, sweet Y/N, that isn’t a place you want to visit.” He chuckled darkly.
Slowly, you rested your hand over his. Despite the lingering warmth of the mug, his fingers were cold. You squeezed his hand gently, and the Doctor stared at your skin on his, soft and warm, like a comforting memory that only rears its head in your darkest moments.
“Why are you here?” you asked again.
The Doctor closed his eyes. “To say goodbye.”
“Goodbye? To... me? Did something happen?”
The Doctor shook his head. “Not yet. But it will. But then, I suppose it already has. Not to you. Well, not yet. We all die one day, after all, don’t we?”
“Doctor. What are you talking about?”
“Nothing... nothing for you to worry about. It’s been, and it will be. Tell me... what year is it? What year did I leave you in?”
“It’s 2020,” you said.
The Doctor winced. “Oh. Sorry. Of all the years to leave you...”
“Hey, it’s interesting to be in a historical event in my own timeline for a change,” you replied, and he chuckled again; a genuine one, this time.
“Oh, Y/N. You always have been the optimist, haven’t you?”
“So have you.” You squeezed his hand, and he set his mug on the table with his free hand, squeezing your fingers back.
“Thank you,” he murmured. The Doctor’s eyes finally met yours, and his eyes were damp. “I didn’t want to leave you, you know. I... I never want to leave you. That’s exactly why I had to.”
“Doctor...”
He squeezed his eyes shut, rubbing the palms of his hands over them before inhaling deeply and smiling. “Well, this has been nice, hasn’t it? I should head off; places to be, things to do, you know?”
The Timelord leapt to his feet, suddenly brimming with forced energy, and you followed his hasty path to the front door.
“Doctor, you can’t just—you can’t just leave like that, not again. Not without at least telling me what’s going on. It’s not fair.”
His smile wavered. “I... I know. But I’m selfish; I should never have come here in the first place, I just... I just needed to see you.”
“Why me?” you asked softly. “Why not... why not Amy? Or- or even Rose, or Martha, or Donna? Why come here?”
The Doctor closed his eyes, shaking his head. “I can’t...”
You touched his arm, and his eyes bore into yours.
“You’re different, Y/N. You always have been; you know that. Sweet, sweet Y/N, with the warmest human heart of all. You only have one heart, but you care far more for others than my two hearts ever could.”
“That’s not true,” you protested, and the Doctor smiled, placing a gentle finger over your lips.
“It is. I’m old, Y/N. I’m an old, selfish man. I’m not a hero. I’m not...” He swallowed, and shook his head for the umpteenth time.
“Doctor. Why did you come to see me?” you asked, one last time. “What’s made you so down and reflective?”
“Who doesn’t want to spend their last hours with the person they love?” the Doctor finally murmured, and your heart all but stopped.
“Last hours? What are you talking about? Wait—love?”
The Doctor smiled, resting his hand on your cheek. “Everything has it’s time, Y/N. Even me.” And suddenly, his arms were around your shoulders, pulling you into his chest.
He was warm, and smelled just as he always did; faintly of leather, of old books and untold stories. You buried your face into the shoulder of his tweed jacket, the fabric softer than it looked on your still-tearstained cheeks. A pair of lips settled against your hair, and moved to your forehead when the Doctor inevitably withdrew; he never was one for lengthy hugs.
His lips left your skin, but your chest was still flush against his, your eyes finding his own as your white knuckled fists grasped the back of his coat.
“I love you, you know,” you whispered. “And I know that you’re doing to be okay. You’re going to work this out; everything is going to be fine. You’re the Doctor. You always save the day.”
“Not always.” His voice was brittle, on the verge of breaking.
“Well, you always saved me. Every day; not just when we got ourselves into trouble. Every day after meeting you... I wanted to wake up in the morning. You showed me the whole universe; different planets, different times... but none of that would have mattered if it wasn’t you I was with. You showed me how to be myself, Doctor; how to find my spark again. You saved me.”
The Doctor smiled, his hand cupping your cheek. “Oh, Y/N... I didn’t save you. You did that all by yourself. I was just the taxi.”
You shook your head vehemently. “Doctor...”
“Y/N,” he whispered, his thumb rubbing gently over your cheekbone, the corner of your mouth, your lower lip... You could feel his warm breath on your nose, feel those piercing eyes as they sought yours, and slowly, tentatively, finally...
He kissed you.
Your mind froze, but as he moved to pull away you finally melted into him, grabbing his lapels and tugging him back as your mouth sealed over his. The Doctor’s hands were on your waist, your cheek, his lips soft and insistent as he held you tightly to his chest. You sighed into his caress, and even when he pulled away, he couldn’t help but place a few soft, lingering pecks to your swollen lips.
“I should leave,” he whispered, his eyes closed and forehead pressed against yours. “I’m sorry.”
“Doctor, please...”
“I’m sorry. But, before I go... I just want you to know that I do love you. You were my everything. The last star in a lonely man’s empty universe. Thank you, Y/N. Promise me you’ll take care.” His voice was barely audible, his breathing unsteady as he cupped your face in both hands.
You nodded, pushing on tip-toe to place one last kiss to his lips. “Promise. You too, okay? Please, Doctor. Please stay safe. Find a way.”
The Doctor smiled sadly, but didn’t reply. “Goodbye, my sweet Y/N,” he breathed eventually. “I know you’ll have the most beautiful life. Enjoy it.”
Before you could reply, he turned and left, leaving nothing but a swinging door behind him. You watched him walk around the corner without looking back, standing in the empty doorway with your hand over the light switch. In the distance, you heard the wheeze of the TARDIS engine slowly fade into a dying breeze.
The porch light flickered, and finally went dark.

WIP game
Hi everyone! So as part of my effort to better update readers on my ongoing writing projects as well as a sort of gift to you all (just had my own birthday this last week), I thought I’d do a WIP game. The only problem is, most WIP games are for one or two WIPs, which I have...more than that.
So, I’ve decided to post the first snippet of every single one of my WIPs (multichapter-wise anyway) and let you, my readers/followers, decide what to ask based on what you read! Each snippet will be numbered, so just send the number and whatever you want to ask about it. Hopefully this will be fun. Here goes:
1. On the island, split second decisions had been the difference between life and death, and there had never been time to worry about the moral implications. That had always come later. But Oliver already hated himself for what he was about to do. There was only one way off this roof that would ensure his safety and his identity. One way to survive.
2.  Laurel tried not to pace behind Curtis’ back as she watched him work on the device Cisco had made her only a year ago. Since that initial model, it had undergone various updates, but this was to be the most experimental. It also counted the most; Oliver continued to writhe on the exam table in unimaginable pain. If this didn’t work, they’d lose him for good, and Laurel was never going to be ready for that to happen.
3.  The city was as quiet as it ever was when they exited out the back of the base to where Oliver had parked his car. It was large and black with a pair of shovels thrown in the trunk still caked in dirt. The dirt over her grave. Laurel shivered.
4. After five long years away and all the time he had had for regrets and thinking about how he wanted to make amends, Oliver knew exactly where he needed to be when he returned to Starling City. He didn’t get the chance to act on that plan until Tommy asked him what he had missed most on their driving tour of the city. “Laurel.” His best friend barked a laugh and scratched at his ear. “Yeah, uh, problem with that plan. Laurel’s not here anymore.”
5. “I’ll be heading out early tomorrow to meet with Oliver and the others, so I should get some sleep. Goodnight, mom.” Laurel Lance did not know it, but those were to be the last words she would say on her Earth for a long time.
6. She woke up. That was the easy part. Tired and sore, a little weak, but alive. She woke up. Oliver was there just as he had been when she’d started to feel herself slip away. He had tears in his eyes. Laurel tried to reach out a hand, but the best she could do was sort of turn her arm over palm-up. “Hey.” He smiled, just a stretch of the lips, and he echoed her with a soft, “Hey. How are you feeling?” “Tired. I’m not out of the woods yet, I guess.” “Well, the doctors think that we’re past the worst of it. You’re stable.” His eyes were still sad. Something was wrong.
7. 1994 She wondered some nights where the time went. It seemed like only an eye blink had passed from the day she’d first arrived in Starling City to the day she co-owned a home; three bed, two bath, and a husband and two children that filled it. It felt like a dream sometimes, a not quite real thing.
8. It was an otherwise unremarkable day. The Doctor and Martha had ended up a few years into her personal future, which he ordinarily tried to avoid. But lizards were notoriously difficult to schedule, particularly when it came to their hatchlings. They’d been on the chase all afternoon, on foot for most of it. As time had quickly begun to run out, however, he’d flagged down a taxi.
9.  Donna Noble was going to die. Not even forty, jobless, unmarried. Exactly the failure her mum had said she was going to be. She wasn’t single, but of course she doubted her mum would count an alien boyfriend as a success. At least she was going down in the TARDIS. She’d decided to spend the rest of her life traveling in this box, but she hadn’t thought that would come true so soon.
10. It took quite a bit of convincing to get Donna’s mother to let them all in the house. Even just to open the door a crack so they could try to convince her. “I mean, what even are they?” She hissed through the gap. “They’re the Ood, and they’re nice,” Donna said. “Seriously, that can feel a bit hard to find sometimes. Might as well appreciate it.” “Hold on, what do you mean hard to find?” The Doctor turned to regard Donna now instead. “I’m the first alien you ever met, and I’m nice.”
11. Jenny saw the gun and didn’t even think twice. It wasn’t the soldier’s instinct that overtook her in that moment, but something stronger. “No!” She pushed herself in front of her dad just as the shot rang out, and something impacted her chest. Jenny staggered, her mouth falling open. All that training and conditioning in her head since the minute she’d been born, and none of it had prepared her for this. She felt herself fall, but never hit the ground. Someone had caught her. It was her dad.
12.  When Donna found herself alive again in the proper universe, she was more than a little disoriented. Some bug was on the ground that she both did and didn’t recognize, and the fortune teller woman who had started this whole mess fled before Donna could do much more than demand, “What the hell is that?”
13. The Gryffindor and Ravenclaw third years sat nervous and excited at their desks, waiting for the start of class. Their latest Defense Against the Dark Arts professor had told them today was to be a practical lesson unlike any they’d ever had before. “It’s no good just knowing what the Unforgivables are,” the grizzled ex-Auror had stated, pacing the aisles with a wooden thump to every step. “You need to be ready for what you’ll be up against. You need to feel just how hard of a fight it will be. And no curse is harder to fight than the Imperius.”
14.  It was fast approaching Christmas at Grimmauld Place, and Harry was only belatedly taking the time to notice. While the first portion of the holidays had been consumed by fear and guilt after the attack on Mr. Weasley, and then fear and guilt for his own possible possession, he could now finally start to relax thanks to his friends knocking some sense back into him. Well, it was Ginny who had really done most of the work on that; he’d been both surprised at how easily she’d managed to allay his worries, yet also ashamed that he’d completely disregarded her ability to do so until she’d forcibly reminded him.
15. Harry wasn’t even aware of climbing the stairs to the seventh floor. All he could concentrate on was the pounding in his skull courtesy of yet another useless Occlumency lesson. He grunted the password at the Fat Lady’s portrait and stumbled into Gryffindor common room. The fire was already burning low, and the room appeared empty. He’d been hoping to find Hermione downstairs in order to beg to take a look at her Charms essay that was due tomorrow which he hadn’t even started yet. Picturing her scandalized look at the idea, however, Harry thought it was probably good she wasn’t here. He dragged his feet over to the armchairs near the fire. Ron was likely waiting to see he got back from Snape’s dungeon, but Harry knew if he went up to his bed he wouldn’t be able to force himself to do his homework in time for class. He was about to drop into his favorite armchair when a quiet, “Hey, Harry,” had him jumping and whirling around.
So that’s it (that’s a lie, actually, but some of my WIPs are only tiny, incoherent and out of order snippets so there wasn’t enough to scrape together for this post). Hopefully one or multiple catch your interest, and feel free to ask any and all questions because my ask box is wide open!

For reasons wretched and divine. A “brief” recap of Supernatural season 14 from episode 10 onward.
I wanted to write a post about my thoughts on episode 14x18 and how utterly, ridiculously, romantic that whole fight (whole episode really) between Dean and Cas was. Mostly because the wonderful @bluestar86 asked people to challenge how she felt about it, but also because I just really just wanted to get my thoughts out there. To do that though I ended up feeling like I needed to recap a little bit, especially since this is my first time ever writing down my thoughts that anyone other than my best friend is gonna read. So I am going to recap from 14x10 onward on the things that I remember standing out to me as ‘this is something I need to remember and revisit’, and then I am going to just give my thoughts on 14x18. Pretty much all of this is just going to focus on interactions between Dean and Cas, or the things that affect them both in one way or another so if you don’t wanna read my ramblings on these two idiots in love then I suggest bowing out now, the rest of this is below the cut. If you just want to read my thoughts on 14x18 that is down at the very end!
So hi to those that are still here, nice to see you! As I said I am going from 14x10 mostly because I do not have the patience with my own mind to think that I can keep focus enough to recap all of season 14 so far so yeh...
14x10 - Nihilism
Pamela - How come you only want what you can’t have?
...Besides, you don’t want me. You just like to flirt. I’m a psychic, so I kinda know.
So what does Dean want? What is he hiding from everyone, everyone including himself, except maybe Pamela who is very blatantly there calling us all back to Season 4 and the Dean/Cas meet cute.
All you’ve got to do is look at the top she is wearing, emblazoned with ‘to hell and back’ and the adorable Wings on her necklace to know who she is there to remind you of.
Then we have the Michael inside Dean’s mind - You only tolerate the Angel because you think you owe him, because he ‘gripped you tight and raised you from perdition’ Or, whatever.
Not only is this one of the most iconic lines ever from Cas, it also meant enough to Dean for Michael to be able to find it within his mind and use it against him. Michael could have pretty much said anything to belittle Cas during the conversation in Dean’s mind, and he does go on to say that Cas is a burden who has only made mistake after mistake and that would have been enough, but using that iconic line brought it back to the forefront of our minds and we were able to realise just how important that was to Dean.
And the locking up of Michael in the closet within Deans mind always made me think of Dean locking away the side of himself that he still isn’t ready to confront, because he can’t imagine the outcome of confronting that side of himself being anything other than destructive. Even if he is, as Michael is, fighting tooth and nail to come out.
14x11 - Damaged Goods
Being a Cas-less episode there weren’t too many points in this that stood out to me on the Dean and Cas front.
On the ‘What do you want?’ front though there were all those shirtless cowboys in Donna’s workshop, and although this had absolutely nothing to do with SPN as such it did give me pause when Dean was using the welder because my mind automatically went to Magic Mike XXL (mostly because of Channing Tatum as Magic Mike running his own business as someone who makes furniture?? I don’t remember exactly what his business is, but he does use power tools, welders included in that, and that whole film was about not only one last hurrah but also discovering who you are and WHAT YOU WANT) The only thing I noticed that was intrinsically to do with Cas is that he wasn’t there, so although Dean said that Sam was the only one who could change his mind, we really know that isn’t true because he couldn’t be around Cas at all, and why not, well we find that out in...
14x12 -  Prophet and Loss
Sam - And Cas and Jack, you haven’t even told them. Dean - Okay, well, yeah, that’s because I’m not good with the whole big goodbyes alright? I-I-I don’t need to get shaky on this thing. So Dean can’t say goodbye to Cas (or Jack) because he is worried about getting shaky on this thing, and yet in 14x10 he said Sam was the only one who could change his mind...Hmm not being wholly truthful with yourself there Dean. Then we find out that Sam has told Cas about Dean’s plan anyway. Go Sammy, Go Sammy!! Cas - Sam. Maybe if I spoke to Dean... Sam - It wouldn’t matter. Believe me, I-I I’ve never seen him like this. He won’t listen to me. H-He just- No. If we don’t find some way... Deans gone.
Dean phones Cas to ask him about the case that he is working on with Sam, and Cas’ relief at hearing from Dean is palpable. Cas - Dean! It’s so good to hear from you. Then he drops the bomb that he knows about Deans plan. Cas - I-I know that I’m not supposed to know what I know, but... Dean - Look, I’m fine with my plan okay? We can talk about my plan later. Yeah right Dean because you’re not going to avoid that conversation at all costs. Cas - Wait, Dean, Dean. We need to have a conversation. Dean - Look, I really got to handle this right now okay? So, thank you, and uh... it’s good to hear your voice. What an odd thing to say Dean. Could it be because you thought you were never going to hear Cas’ voice again? The voice of the person you love? Hmm. Then Sam tells us what we already know. Sam - Dean it’s Cas. I HAD TO TELL HIM. Then dundundun we get Doctor Novak. Oh how I enjoyed watching the emotions play across Deans face when he saw Cas in that get-up. But the most important bit of all is the conversation they then have. Cas -  Oh, no. No, please don’t compare this with your suicidal plan. Just stop. Dean -  Okay, alright. Why don’t we talk about that later? Cas -  Because, according to your plan, there won’t be a later. Dean  -  Cas… if you are a friend of mine, then you will understand that I have to do this and you won’t try to stop me. You think this is easy on me? It has to be done. Cas -  So, then, this is goodbye? The pain, and regret, and love on their faces during this actually broke me. I cried more than I expected to, but of course we have to get interrupting moose breaking into the conversation with news about Donatello before anything could even be resolved. Not to worry though because Cas then shows Dean that there may be another way, by performing a miracle and saving Donatello. Dean -  Wait. How? I thought he was too far gone. Cas -  Dean, if there is a spark – a hope – then I have to try. You taught me that. Our wonderful glowy eyed Angel saves the day... Dean -  Now, look at that. It’s a miracle. Yes Dean, because there is always another way. And even though you said Sammy was the only one who could change your mind I do believe that it was actually Cas that made you stop and think. That line again - if there is a spark - a hope - then I have to try. Just like your relationship with Cas, you have to try, even if the outcome is unknown, because hey, it could just be a miracle.
14x13 - Lebanon
Only a couple of things to comment on with this episode thankfully (sorry this is ending up being ridiculously long guys, I appreciate you if you are still here) At some point Sam and Dean obviously told John about their living arrangements... John -  Then it’s all true. God, the devil, you boys smack in the middle. Now you live in a secret bunker with an angel and Lucifer’s kid. Confirming that YES CAS DOES LIVE IN THE BUNKER!!! Whilst out in town the boys come across AU Zachariah and Castiel. Sam has no qualms about stabbing Zachariah with his Angel Blade and killing him. But even though it is sadly obvious that this Cas doesn’t know Sam or Dean, he doesn’t kill Cas, only banishes him. In the run up to Sam banishing him, Dean was solely focused on trying to get Cas to recognise them, because of course Dean would be solely focused on Cas. Just look at our boys face!
Tumblr media
Back at the bunker we finally get the Dean and John conversation. John -  I, uh – I never meant for this. Dean -  Dad, we pulled you here. John -  No, son. My fight. It was supposed to end with me, with Yellow Eyes. But now you – you are a grown man, and I am incredibly proud of you. I guess that I had hoped, eventually, you would… get yourself a normal life, a peaceful life, a family. Dean -  I have a family. Yes you do Dean, and the relief on your face when your Cas comes back through the bunker door is nothing short of fantastic. I might even have squealed a little bit.
Tumblr media
I am going to whiz through the next few episodes because I imagine most of them are still pretty fresh in peoples minds, and I am tired, and I really want this finished before tonight's episode airs.
14x14 - Ouroboros
Well if this wasn’t some of the most, ugh, I don’t even know what this was. I mean a Bisexual Demigod who not only focused on Dean, even though Sam was also around, but when it was revealed that until seeing them face to face he hadn’t been able to see Cas or Jack, he then focused on Cas as well. I just...WHAT!!!! Also this for me hearkened back to Nihilism and the fear Dean has over what is locked away deep inside himself, because he gets knocked out, and Michael gets free, and he destroys. That doesn’t mean that allowing yourself what you want is going to cause destruction though Dean.
14x15 - Peace of Mind
Cas telling Dean he needs to spend time with their son. Cas being singled out as something different, and wrong. Cas and his hand movements, oh dear chuck. Cas and Sams fight, and how very similar but oh so different it was to Cas and Deans fight. Blatantly showing the difference between the familial connection of Cas and Sam, and the romantic connection of Cas and Dean. Cas telling Dean all about Sams cardigan. So we now know they keep in touch with each other, and gossip. They gossip. Come on how adorably romantic is that, Cas telling his beau about his brothers cardigan. Too cute.
14x16 - Don’t go in the woods
Cas is gone, but how do we know this, because apparently Dean had a conversation with him early that morning about him leaving. Sam -  I’ll grab Cas. Dean - He actually left. Sam - What? Dean - Early this morning. Sam - Why? Dean - I don’t know. Something about being cooped up in the bunker for a few weeks. So our lovable, morning grump has had an early morning conversation with Cas about him leaving the bunker for a while. So what Dean, you had the conversation whilst you were, oh I dunno, laying in bed, fingers running through Cas’ hair???
14x17 - Game Night
And so we come to find out where Cas has gone. Looking for God to try and help Jack. But why oh why do you go off and do these things on your own Cas. You need to learn to confide in Dean, and Sam, because when you don’t things turn out bad. Anael -  The Winchesters-- they don't know you're here, do they? Cas -  Why do you say that? Anael -  Oh, I don't know, just a general reek of ill-conceived lone-wolf desperation. I mean come on Cas, even Anael has you sussed. We know you want to protect the people you love, but this is not a good way to go about it. And there we go, that recap went on far longer than I wanted it to, oh well. Now on to why I truly believe that 14x18 was just so full of romantic pain. I’m not going to make this super long now because that took it out of me sorry.
14x18 - Absence
So, the episode that seems to have made so many people lose hope actually gave me hope in buckets full. All of that hope came in the form of pain and angst though so I do totally see where people are coming from when they say they just don’t have faith in Destiel anymore. I am saddened by it of course, but I am yet to read any negative thoughts on 14x18 that have swayed me in my belief that it was some of the most romantic bs to come out of season 14 so far. Now we start the episode not knowing 100% what has happened to Mary, neither do Sam and Dean, sure there is a bit of worry, but it isn’t full blown panic yet. The first thing that struck me was how okay Dean was, even though he was worried, he still wasn’t sure he had anything to be worried about, so he was probably more okay than we all were, at least on the Mary and Jack front. With regards to Cas though, he was angry. We knew the instant his phone rang that he was angry. He had been fine whilst on the previous phone call, but as soon as he saw who was calling him his face turned stormy, and just my thoughts but I imagine it was because not only wasn’t Cas there with them and Dean was missing him but that he had probably tried to contact him multiple times already. So he was itching to have it out with Cas but it only stemmed from him being separated from Cas and not because Cas had done anything wrong in his eyes at that point. Then Cas gives him the bad news about Jack, and Dean hangs up on him. Now not only is Dean angry because Cas isn’t at home, but also because Cas kept something from him, and they have been doing so well at being more open with each other that this must have felt like a million steps backwards, especially when you factor in the end result of Cas having kept something from him. (Just imagine how angry Dean is going to be when Cas gets whisked away to the empty.) On to that terrible scene. I didn’t draw any conclusions from the promo and I tried to remain as positive as I could even with fandom imploding around me, but when I watched that scene for the first time it destroyed me. It was so much worse than I had thought, because it wasn’t just anger, it was hurt, and betrayal, and dare I say it - heartbreak, and Dean wondering why Cas had kept something of this magnitude from him. To the point where he could barely even stand to look at Cas, and for most of the exchange he didn’t. This was pure spousal breaking apart. Cas was broken because he knew deep down he should have confided in Dean but he had done it to try and protect his family, to stop them from having to go through the pain of knowing Jack wasn’t okay, but it had just made it worse. So of course Dean said something incredibly hurtful, it is human nature to lash out at those closest to us when we are suffering from immense pain ourselves, and we all know that even though Dean is much better at communicating his feelings nowadays this is still a huge part of his character, so it wasn’t surprising in the slightest that he lashed out the way he did. He wanted to hurt Cas as much as Cas had hurt him, that is unfortunately what happens in relationships. We all say stupid stuff when we are hurting. I don’t excuse what Dean said, but I do understand where it came from.It was made even more obvious that it was more about the dynamic between Dean and Cas having been broken than it was about Mary, because Sam wasn’t angry with Cas, not like Dean was, and Dean wasn’t angry with Sam, not even when Sam pointed out that they had all known that things weren’t right with Jack and that they all shoulder the blame. I am so glad that Sam and Dean had that conversation alone, I really do feel that it put it more in perspective for Dean.I think there is the big conversation and apology coming up for Dean and Cas. We aren’t there yet because Dean is still hurting, but the simple fact that he stopped to listen to what Cas had to say when Cas got back from Heaven, and then that Cas had obviously traveled with them to give Mary her hunters funeral spoke of how much Dean wants Cas there. Even if he can’t bring himself to be close to Cas right now (which Sam is very aware of because he kept Cas from trying to go to comfort Dean knowing it would cause more pain), he needs him in his vicinity. One last point on this episode. The Empty. Cas’ deal whammied me again, unexpectedly, when Duma was the one who came to speak to Cas. Yes I know Heaven is short on Angels, and Naomi was probably busy, but sending Duma down to see Cas really brought the knowledge of his deal back to the front of my mind. I know we are all aware that this is something that needs to be dealt with but I thought that with what needs to happen between Dean and Cas, an apology, a confession maybe, seeing Duma again nailed it home for me that the one thing that will make Cas truly happy is Dean.

Summary: Jason's favourite time of year is coming up: when the Wayne's flood one of their pastures to make a giant skating rink for the community. Not only is he looking forward to getting to skate again he's looking forward to maybe spending some quality time with the Wayne's oldest boy, Richard. The only thing standing in his way his is own damn mouth.

=====
November was Jason’s favourite time of year. Sure it meant that the days were becoming short and the long bus ride in to town became cold and miserable. But it also meant that soon the Wayne’s would flood one of their pastures and make a giant outdoor skating rink for everyone to enjoy.
And the absolute best part of spending time at the Wayne pasture was getting to spend more time with the Wayne boys. Richard was probably Jason’s favourite out of them but he was 2 years older and mostly hung out with his older friends. Which left Jason to spend time with his younger brother Timothy. Timothy was great, really but Jason had always felt a certain pull towards the older boy.
It was the end of the second week of November when Richard bounded on to the bus, cheeks rosy and yelled “Tomorrow night! The rink will be open tomorrow night! And we’ll have a hockey game on Saturday.”
Everyone cheered and clapped Richard on the shoulder as he passed by them to get to his seat at the back next to Wally and Donna.
Timothy slid onto the bench next to Jason, pushing him into the cold window.
“Geeze! That’s cold!” Jason yelled and playfully shoved Timothy back so he nearly fell into the aisle.
“Sorry. I just got excited. Do you think they’ll let us play on their team this year?” Timothy beamed at Jason.
Shrugging Jason shoved one of his notebooks up against the window so that it wouldn’t be so cold on his shoulder. “Maybe, Roy and Garth did graduate last year so they’ll need 2 new people.” He glanced to the back of the bus to see Richard listening raptly to Wally, a giant smile splitting his face.
“Hey,” Timothy punched Jason lightly on the shoulder to get his attention. He leaned in and whispered into Jason’s ear. “Look, you’re running out of time, you just gotta ask him.”
This time Jason tried to push Timothy off the bench. “Not here.” He glared at his friend.
Timothy muttered something under his breath that sounded a lot like “hopeless” but he didn’t push the issue. Jason was thankful but it still sort of made his stomach churn because Timothy was right. There was no way a guy like Richard wasn’t going to find a nice girl. And even if he didn’t he was graduating in the spring and probably going off to some fancy college. Jason’s days really were numbered.
When Saturday finally came around Jason could hardly contain his excitement. He’d saved up every penny he could and bought new skates. Well not new new ones, not like the Wayne’s. But they were real nice for a poor kid like him. When he’d stepped on to the ice for the first time on them he’d almost felt like he was flying. Though his grace still paled in comparison to Richard Grayson-Wayne. God he was gorgeous in his bright blue jacket and yellow scarf. Flying around the rink like it was effortless. Jason thinks sometimes that if Richard wasn’t stuck in some rinky dink small town like this he would’ve gone on to be a great skater in the Olympics or something.
“Earth to Jason.” A hand waved in front of his face and Jason nearly stumbled.
“Jeeze what is it with you and sneaking up on me.” Jason groused.
Timothy just rolled his eyes. “Come on, they’re picking the teams.”
The two hurried over to the small huddle of teens near one end of the ice.
“Oh there you are.” Richard gave them both a warm smile. I was just saying that since Roy and Garth aren’t here that Kori and Kate were going to take their places on my team.”
“What?” It came out louder and angrier than Jason intended.
Richard’s eyes narrowed. “Do you have a problem with this?”
“Yah, I do.” Jason spat the words out as he skated closer to Richard. “Look me and Tim have been waiting years to play with you. And you go and pick them? Can Kori even skate?”
“Yes she can.” Dick spat back into Jason’s face. “I was considering choosing you instead of Kate but I guess that was a good thing I didn’t. Considering how much of a dick you’re being right now.”
“You’re the dick, Dick.” And then to Jason’s utter horror he pushed Richard.
The look of surprise on Richard’s face as he fell back onto his ass would have been comical in almost any other situation.
Wally was the first to react. He reached out for Jason, about to say something but Jason was already skating off the ice. He hastily ripped off his skates and shoved his feet into his freezing cold boots. He was so outta here.
The walk back to his farm was cold and long. When he slammed through the front door he was relieved to find he was alone. His parents must still be in town. Probably getting drunk at the bar. God they probably would’ve forgotten to pick him up from the Wayne’s place anyway so it was probably best that he had walked home. Not to mention the walk had given him time to cool his head.
Crap he’d really messed up. He was going to have to apologise to Richard on Monday.
He’d just put the water on to make tea when there was a soft knock at the door. Jason groaned. This was most likely going to be unpleasant.
When Jason swung the door open the last person he’d been expecting was a sheepish looking Richard.
“I’m sorry.” Jason blurted out. Then before Richard could say anything Jason asked, “What do you want?”
Richard smiled softly. “I wanted to apologise too. I talked with Tim after and he...” He trailed off as he saw how pale Jason had gotten. “Listen,” Richard reached out but Jason stepped back further into the house. “No really, listen-”
“No, you listen. Whatever Tim told you, well it wasn’t his bit to tell. He’s probably just making things up. He’s 14. That’s what Kids his age do.”
“Aren’t you only 15?”
A brilliant blush began to spread across Jason’s cheeks. “Well I feel like I’m older.”
Richard laughed. It’s loud and happy and it just made Jason’s heart swell.
“Listen,” Richard stepped forward and wrapped a hand gently around Jason’s bicep. “I know why you were scared. People like us… well people say there shouldn’t be people like us.” He stepped closer, a fond smile on his face. “But I say screw them. We only live once.”
“Richard-”
“Dick.”
“Dick,” Jason licked his lips and looked up into bright blue eyes. “Are you…?” He didn’t have the words to ask what he wanted.
“Yah. I mean we’re probably going to have to keep it a secret. But I’d like to. With you. If you want.”
Jason smiled, it was small and tentative but a smile none the less. “Yah, anything for you, Dick. Anything.”

Hello. I am alive. Sorry about the two month wait. Here is a new chapter.
Obi-Wan, The Doctor and Donna finally get to see Master Qui-Gon Jinn! And there is a lot of exposition.
The walk to Master Jinn’s quarters was slightly awkward.
Donna was still angry and annoyed. She was keeping it under control, like how the Guardians of the Whills taught her several months ago. The Doctor was not that much better. Whereas Donna was like a raging fire in the wind, The Doctor was the hidden rapid pools on Rankonkana; calm on the surface but twisting and turning where the eye could not see.
Master Plo more than likely could also feel Donna and The Doctor’s anger, but the Master said nothing of it. Instead, the Master Jedi gave a small history lesson about the Order and the Temple, pointing out various busts and architecture and explaining their significance to the Jedi. Obi-Wan was aware that they were going the long way around to where Master Jinn’s quarters were but he said nothing, hoping that the longer walk would calm his friends down a little.
Which it did, a little bit anyway. By the time they reached Master Jinn’s quarters, Donna no longer looked like she wanted to murder someone and The Doctor seemed to be calmer. When they did reach the door to the Jedi Master’s quarters, both Donna and The Doctor quietly allowed Master Jinn to introduce himself and let them into the room.
The room itself was spacious and warm. There was a small table in the middle of the room by some couches and a kitchenet on the far wall by what looks to be the bedroom. The whole area looked comfortable and homely.
There was an awkward silence between all of them for a few seconds before Donna marched up to Master Jinn and slapped the Jedi Master across the face.
Master Jinn winced and gave a painful smile down at Donna. “I deserved that.” He said rubbing his cheek.
Donna was gently pulled back by The Doctor, who looked slightly pleased. “You deserved that. And more.” Donna hissed. “You and this whole organisation of yours all need a damn good reality smack down to realised what the hell you have done to the children in your care.”
Master Jinn nodded in agreement. “We have already had one of those. Well, several of those if I am to be honest. A lot has happened in the past several months.” The Jedi Master paused before looking down at Obi-Wan. “Obi-Wan Kenobi; I owe you my deepest apologies for the way I treated you.”
It was weird to hear the older man say that. While there is a small little part of him that still felt resentment for the way he had been treated, the last six months had helped him to learn to move past a lot of what he had gone through and unlearn things he had been mistaught by the Order.
“I accept your apology, but I do want to know why you said those things.” Obi-Wan stated, chin raised and voice calm.
The Jedi Master quirked his lips and gestured at the couch. “Why don’t we all sit down, the explanation to everything would be a lot easier to give if we were all comfortable.”
Donna and The Doctor shared one of their looks that Obi-Wan could never fully understand before they both moved towards the couch. Obi-Wan and Master Plo followed them with Master Jinn behind them. Once they were all seated together, Master Jinn spoke.
“To put it simply; the reason why I spoke to you the way I did was because your words accidentally set off a panic attack.” Master Jinn said with a painful look. “I should not have lashed out at you the way I did and my having a panic attack is no excuse for what I said. I had gone to apologize to you the next day but by then you had been sent to space station.”
“Panic attack?” The Doctor tilted his head slightly, a frown appearing on his face.
Master Jinn nodded. “I am unfortunately prone to them. It is one of the reasons I do not and cannot have a Padawan. When young Kenobi here asked me to be his Master it was really the straw that broke the pack mules back after a very long week. It is no excuse, as I said. And I had gone to explain and apologize to young Kenobi but then he disappeared with you and well.” The Jedi Master waved his hand.
Master Plo spoke up. “I would like to add that young Kenobi here was not supposed to be left alone at the space station and that he should not have been sent there in the first place. But because he was, the Jedi Order was able to uncover a plot to harm our younglings from inside our Temple.”
“What do you mean by that?” Donna said with a frown. “Obi-Wan being humiliated and sent away was a good thing?”
Master Plo shook his head. “The humiliation no, the being sent away yes. If Obi-Wan had not been sent away like he was then Qui-Gon would not have gone to confront Master Windu about his reasons for doing so. It took us a while but we soon realised that Bruck Chan, the boy who had accused Obi-Wan of harming him and Master Windu himself, had been under the control of a Sith Master.”
Obi-Wan blinked in shock at that. He thought that the Sith were all gone, destroyed by their own Rule of Two philosophy. The fact that there had been a Sith in the Temple who had managed to control both Master Windu and Bruck was just mind boggling.
“Is Bruck okay?” Obi-Wan asked with a frown. From what he could remember from his classes in the Temple and from what he learnt out while traveling with The Doctor and Donna, being mind controlled could have ill effects on people. Redirecting someone’s attention is one thing but full control of someone’s actions can do a lot of damage.
Thankfully Master Plo nodded and said. “Yes, young Bruck Chan is well. Our mind healers worked to help fix the damage that was done. He has been eager to speak to you in person. I believe he wants to also apologize for his actions.”
“How did you find out they were being controlled?” The Doctor asked, frowning and looking confused. “Also, I was under the impression that the Sith were gone? Or at least the original Sith’s anyway. These new Sith’s though, weren’t they supposed to have been defeated by the Jedi years ago?”
Master Jinn sighed and looked tired. “To answer your questions, I realised something was wrong with Mace when he could not fully answer my questions about why he had not followed protocol for sending away a youngling who has either aged out or has shown signs of not having the right mentality to be within the Order. Since Mace was one of the ones who updated these protocols himself, it was disturbing to see him deflect and ignore my questions. So, I knocked him out and took him to the healers.” The Master shrugged as if knocking someone out was a completely normal reaction to suspecting something is wrong with your friend.
“You knocked him out?” Donna raised her eyebrows at Master Jinn. She seemed to share the same thoughts as Obi-Wan about the strangeness of knocking out one’s friend.
The older Master nodded. “I have known Mace Windu since we were younglings. His behaviour was disturbing. The healers were able to determine that he was under the control of a Dark Sider. Once we realised that fact we pulled Bruck Chan aside and checked him over too. We found the same energy was on the youngling and set about healing and helping him too.”
“You said you uncovered a plot to harm the children? What plot was that and has it been resolved?” The Doctor asked, looking at both Master Plo and Master Jinn with a serious expression. “Because we don’t want to send Obi-Wan back to an environment where he could get hurt.”
Master Plo leaned back in his chair. “The plot was to slowly take our younglings away from the safety of the Order, much like how young Kenobi was. Force Sensitive children are a rarity and they could either be sold off into slavery or they could be taken and retrained in the ways of the Sith. From what we have found out so far is that Obi-Wan was the first they have tired to take. It was no coincidence that the man you helped apprehend was a slaver. We have put in place many new security measures to protect out younglings. Obi-Wan is quite safe with us.”
“And this Sith Lord, person, whatever, what happened to them?” Donna asked, sharing a look with The Doctor.
“He escaped.” Master Jinn stated. “But he is being hunted down by Jedi Shadows. They will be able to track him down and either put a stop to him or capture him and take him to a prison that will hold him.”
“So, Obi-Wan is safe here?” The Doctor asked. “And all of your other younglings? There is no way that this Sith can get in and do that again?”
Master Plo nodded. “Yes, Obi-Wan is safe here. As are all of our younglings. We have put into place more security, as we said. And while it is not impossible for the Sith to get back into the Temple, he would not be able to do it without everyone knowing that he was there. We are taking ever step we can to ensure the safety of our younglings and our fellow Jedi.”
There was silence for a few minutes as everyone digested what had been said. Obi-Wan had not thought that things had been this bad or that there could have been a Sith involved. Never in his wildest dreams had he thought that any of this could happen. A Sith, an actual real life Sith had been in their Temple and had controlled both Bruck and Master Windu. It was a terrifying thought. There has to be more to the story and Obi-Wan was eager to find out more.
But before he could ask either Master to go into more detail about what had happened, Donna spoke up and said. “I take it that Obi-Wan’s friends have been eagerly awaiting his return, right? And they are probably all excited to see him. Why don’t we send Obi-Wan down to his friends and let them speak to each other?” Her smile was slightly sharp.
“Oooh that is a good idea!” The Doctor grinned and Obi-Wan silently cursed in his mind. Of course, they were both going to still be angry.
“You guys just want me out of the room so you can both yell and swear at Master Plo and Master Jinn, don’t you?” Obi-Wan frowned at them. He was thirteen, he didn’t need to be sent out of the room while The Doctor and Donna yelled at the two Masters or possibly the Council if they got the chance again.
Master Jinn gave a laugh. “No, no. It is fine. She is right in saying that your friends have been eager to see you. Padawan Bant should be done with classes for the day. You should go and see her and send her Master down here to us. I am sure Tahl would very much enjoy having Miss Noble yell at us.”
Donna looked over at Obi-Wan, giving him a softer smile than the one she gave the two Masters. “Obi-Wan, I know that you don’t like being sent away from the conversation, but I think it would be best for this conversation not to happen around underaged ears. You said that you did want to see your friend Bant first, didn’t you?”
Obi-Wan pouted slightly. He could tell there was probably another reason as to why Donna and The Doctor wanted him to leave the room but he decided not to push it. In the last six months of traveling with them, neither The Doctor or Donna had lead him astray. He was willing to trust them with this. If they needed him out of the room he would leave the room. Though he cannot say that he is happy about it.
“Okay.” He nodded before looking over at Master Jinn. “What room should I be going to?” He asked.
The Jedi Master gave him the room number and directions. Obi-Wan stood and walked to the door, he would have liked to have stayed to hear what Donna and The Doctor wanted to talk about with the two Masters but he was definitely excited about seeing Bant again. He wondered if any of his other friends were also in the Temple. It would be great to see them all again.
And he would need to track down Bruck, if he was still in the Temple. They both needed to sit down and have a talk about what happened between them. They had never been friends, nor had they overly liked each other but Obi-Wan had never hated Bruck and he was sure now that Bruck did not hate him.
He gave the Masters and his friends a smile before he palmed open the door and ran down the hall. He was going to go see Bant!

Chapter Thirty-five: The Darkness is Coming
Every single sign and banner on Shan Shen said the same two words: Bad Wolf. Rose spun around and looked at the TARDIS. Instead of “Police Public Call Box,” it too said Bad Wolf.
The ship sang in Rose’s mind, and a gold haze obscured her vision. For a moment, the typical tapestry of timelines disappeared, leaving one solid gold line pulling her forward. She saw her hand reaching for something on the TARDIS console, and the pull of the moment was almost enough to carry her through time into her own future.
She reached blindly for the Doctor’s hand. Feeling his strong fingers wrapped around hers anchored her in reality, and after she blinked a few times, she could see normally again. The vision was forgotten as soon as it faded, leaving only a sense that something was coming.
The light spilling out through the door they’d left ajar was red instead of the typical blueish green. The TARDIS’ concern called to Rose, and she pushed the door all the way open.
“Rose?”
The Doctor’s worry dampened the music, and she looked up at him.
“Let’s wait right here for Jenny and Donna. They shouldn’t be long.”
“Yeah, of course,” Rose agreed, even though she was itching to get inside and let the TARDIS take them where they needed to go.
Thankfully, Jenny and Donna ran up to them a moment later. “Why do all the signs say ‘Bad Wolf?’” Jenny asked breathlessly as they ran in through the TARDIS’ open doors.
The cloister bell tolled ominously in the background as the Doctor slammed the door shut behind him and ran to the console. “It’s the end of the universe,” he said tersely.
“So, more of the same really.” Donna sat down on the jump seat and rolled her eyes.
“No, not more of the same,” Rose countered. She and the Doctor were spinning in opposite directions around the console, trying to get the coordinates set. They were going to Earth, in Donna’s time. “I got a message from a parallel universe, which should be impossible. Mickey told me the stars were going out, which should also be impossible.” She looked up at Donna. “Whatever this is, it’s bigger than anything we’ve dealt with before.”
“What do you mean, parallel worlds?” Donna questioned.
Rose shook her head quickly. Her time senses were buzzing with something she’d never felt before, and right now, touching the console, it was all she could do not to look at it—even though she knew instinctively that it wasn’t time yet.
“We don’t really have time to explain multiversal theory right now, Donna,” she said, the tension putting an uncharacteristic bite in her voice.
The Doctor looked up at her, but Rose just grabbed the lever and threw it. “Allons-y,” she muttered.
The cloister bell stopped as soon as the time rotor started moving, but the light shining around them was still a dangerous red colour. Rose grabbed onto the console as the ship shook and rattled its way through the Vortex to Earth. Jenny stumbled into her, then hooked her elbow around the railing to keep from being thrown to the ground.
When they landed with a dull thunk, the Doctor tore around the console to the door and flung it open. Rose started to follow him, but she was momentarily distracted by a blue leather jacket that had appeared on the coat rack. Unique as the colour was, she knew she’d seen it before—recently, even.
She shook her head and grabbed the jacket, pulling it on as she left the ship. In the process of shoving her arms into the sleeves, she missed that the Doctor had stopped dead and ran smack into his back.
“Sorry, Rose,” he said absently, shifting over so she could stand beside him.
Rose braced herself for whatever had caught him so off guard. They already knew something was very wrong, but…
She blinked and looked up and down the street. It was just… England. On a typical grey, English day. The wind blew a strand of Rose’s hair into her face, and she pushed it back as she looked around.
“It’s fine,” she mumbled. But she’d left a message for herself, and Bad Wolf wasn’t needed on ordinary days.
“I know,” he agreed. “Everything’s fine.”
The timelines stretched tighter. “But how can it be fine?”
The Doctor’s sleeve brushed against her arm as he stuck his hands into his pockets. “I don’t know, but nothing’s wrong.”
They looked at each other uneasily, then Rose spotted the milkman across the street. “Hiya!” she called out. “Can you tell us what day it is?”
The man looked at them as he climbed out of the truck, and Rose could easily imagine him rolling his eyes at the nonsense question. But one milkman thinking she’d had too many the night before was the last of her concerns, so she waited for the answer.
“Saturday,” he sneered.
“Saturday,” the Doctor repeated. “Good. Good, I like Saturdays.”
When they turned around, Jenny and Donna were standing in the doorway, waiting anxiously. “Well?” Donna snapped.
“Nothing,” the Doctor said absently as he pushed past them, heading straight for the monitor on the console. “It’s Saturday.”
Donna snorted. “Oh, is that what you discovered? It’s Saturday? I’m so glad it’s not Sunday, or that would blow your “Sundays are always boring” theory out of the water.”
The Doctor rocked back on his heels and pressed his tongue to the back of his teeth. “All right, time for a quick explanation,” he said. “Within the multiverse, there are parallel universes—different Earths with different Donnas who maybe made different choices. And it’s supposed to be impossible to get from one parallel world to another, but Rose’s friend Mickey is apparently managing it somehow.”
Rose jumped in. “And if he’s made it back here, that means the walls of the worlds are breaking down, which means everything is in danger.”
“But…” Everyone turned to Jenny, who’d been silent through the whole conversation. “Mum, if the parallel worlds are breaking down… does that mean your family can come back?”
Rose couldn’t stop the smile from spreading across her face. “Yeah. I mean… maybe. I hope.”
The idea thrilled her, and she could feel a ramble worthy of the Doctor coming on. Before the words could pour out of her mouth, the TARDIS shook violently, knocking all of them to the floor.
“What the hell was that?” Donna cried out.
“Don’t know,” the Doctor said, his voice a little wheezy. “It came from outside.”
He jumped up and ran to the door while Rose gave Jenny and Donna a hand. The solid wave of shock he projected a moment later had her spinning around to follow him though, and then all four of them were crowded around the door, staring out at open space, littered by asteroids and smaller bits of space debris.
“How can we be in space?” Jenny asked. “The TARDIS didn’t move; I’m sure of it.”
Rose nodded as she ran back to the controls. “I don’t think she did either, but…” Her jaw dropped slightly when she saw the coordinates. “No, she really didn’t.”
The Doctor left Jenny and Donna staring into space and joined her at the monitor. “She must have,” he protested. He ran his hand through his hair when he saw the coordinates. “We haven’t moved. We’re fixed,” he agreed. “It can’t have,” he muttered before running back to the door.
One look out at the surrounding stars and he knew the computer wasn’t lying to them. He could pick out the constellations as well here as he could have if they were stargazing in Britain—because for all intents and purposes, they were.
“No. The TARDIS is still in the same place, but the Earth has gone. The entire planet. It’s gone.”
He rubbed his hand over his face. “First the stars are going out, then an entire planet is just… stolen,” he mumbled as he strode back to the console. “This is just… this doesn’t happen.” His fingers flew over the keyboard as he ran every report he could think of, trying to find an explanation.
Out of the corner of his eye, he watched Donna approach him slowly. “But if the Earth’s been moved,” she began, “they’ve lost the sun. What about my mum? And granddad?” Her voice trembled, and she took a deep breath. “They’re dead, aren’t they? Are they dead?”
Rose stepped in front of Donna and put her hands on her shoulders. “Calm down, Donna,” she said, her voice kind but firm. “We don’t know anything yet. I know that’s scary, but it means there’s a chance—a good chance even—that the worst hasn’t happened.”
Donna sniffed, then set her jaw. “That’s my family. My whole world,” she emphasised.
The Doctor looked at her over the top of the monitor. “I know. I know, and I wish I could tell you something more. But Rose is right. We really don’t know anything for sure yet.”
Jenny pulled Donna into a hug, and Rose joined him at the console. Anything? she asked, looking down at the monitor with him.
He tugged on his ear and willed the computer to tell him something that would actually make sense. “There’s no readings,” he said in a low voice. “Nothing. Not a trace. Not even a whisper.” He straightened up and ran his hand through his hair. “Oh, that is fearsome technology,” he muttered.
Rose put her hand on his elbow, grounding him. “So what do we do?”
“We’ve got to get help.” If the Earth was gone and the stars were going out, this might actually be the end of the universe. And he couldn’t fix it without knowing what had happened.
“What kind of help, Dad?”
The Doctor rubbed at the back of his neck and took a deep breath. There was only one place to go, despite his reluctance. “I’m taking you to the Shadow Proclamation. Hold tight.”
He grabbed the lever and pulled, knowing the TARDIS had reached the same conclusion and had set the coordinates for him. As the ship sailed through the Vortex, he held onto the console with one hand and Rose with the other and hoped fervently that the Shadow Proclamation had a better idea of what was going on than he did.
oOoOoOoOo
The air compressed around Mickey, then eased up, letting him come back through to his own universe. He blinked against the inky darkness; as far as they’d been able to tell when they’d set the coordinates, it should have been midday.
Then he looked up at the sky and understood.
The sky that should have been filled with stars and a solitary moon was instead filled with an array of planets of various sizes and colours. It was a stunning picture—he knew Malcolm would love to see something like this—but it also meant he’d gotten here just in time.
He adjusted the hold on his gun and smiled grimly at the horizon. “Game on,” he muttered. Then he walked past a milkman staring at the shattered remains of his cargo, eager to get to the centre of the action.
Ten minutes later, he shook his head as he looked up and down a busy street. When he’d said the centre of action, he hadn’t been thinking of Chiswick High Road. But it was as good a place to start as any, he reckoned as he shifted his gun to hang at his side and started walking.
Alarms pierced the air, but he kept walking. Looting was inevitable in a situation like this, and he needed to get to the Doctor and Rose as quickly as possible. That was the best way to get things back to normal.
A crowd of terrified people ran screaming up the middle of the street. “Yeah, good luck finding a place to hide from that,” Mickey said under his breath, looking up at the sky again.
A car roared down the street on his left, with drunk, frightened idiots hanging out the windows and sunroof, shouting at the audience and the planets in the sky. Mickey shook his head and kept walking, until a drunk staggered out of a pub right in front of him.
“The end of the world, mate,” he said, gesturing vaguely at the sky and the planets and the chaos around them. “End of the stinking world.”
“Yeah?” Mickey nodded, a smirk on his face. “You’d better have another then.”
The sound of shattering glass caught his attention, and he spun around, quickly spotting two hoodies breaking into an electronics shop across the street. “Oh, no you don’t,” he muttered, shifting his hold on his weapon and striding across the street. Stopping a robbery about to happen was different from trying to chase down every hoodlum carrying stolen goods.
The thieves were packing laptops and other equipment into their bags when he reached them. Mickey leaned against the door with one hand resting on his gun.
“Way I see it,” he said casually, hiding a smirk when their heads snapped up, “you’ve got two choices. You can put that stuff down, or you can try your odds against my gun here.”
Their eyes widened, and a second later they bolted past him, out into the street. Mickey chuckled for a second, then he noticed one of the televisions was still on.
“Right,” he said, taking a seat in front of it. “Time to see if anyone has figured out what’s going on yet.”
He watched the news report impatiently. Planets in the sky, spaceships approaching… He was just about to switch it off and see if he couldn’t find a better source of information when the news anchor pressed his finger to his ear, clearly getting a message from his producers.
“Hold on,” he said, listening and nodding. “I’ve just learned that we are receiving a message from the spaceship. We’re going to try to patch it through now. It’s audio only, I understand, but maybe this can tell us something more about who’s done this.”
The breath Mickey was holding whooshed out of him when a familiar, grating cry echoed in the small shop. “Exterminate. Exterminate. Exterminate.”
Daleks.
They’d known that whoever was making the stars go out was most likely not an ally of Earth. But there was a difference between suspecting a shadowy enemy was plotting against you, and learning the shadowy enemy was an entire Dalek fleet.
Mickey stepped out of the shop and looked up at the sky, where a Dalek ship had just broken atmosphere. The saucer spun around, letting the weapons array take aim and fire at Chiswick landmarks.
“Daleks,” he said, still hardly able to believe it. How many times had the Doctor and Rose defeated them, wiped them out completely… and yet they still came back.
After a moment, he set his shoulders and walked away. He’d found the right Earth and the right time. Now it was time to find the TARDIS.
oOoOoOoOo
“Hold on, Doctor,” Rose said as they tried to stay upright. “I thought the Shadow Proclamation was like… an interstellar treaty or something.”
The Doctor shook his head quickly. “It’s the name of the governing body that wrote and enforces the treaties and agreements.” He grunted when the turbulence sent him into the console. “Posh name for police, really. Outer space police.”
The TARDIS shuddered when she hit the materialisation barrier that protected the Shadow Proclamation from invasion via teleportation, and the Doctor punched the button that would send them through anyway. “Here we go.”
As they materialised, the external monitor flickered on. They’d landed at the end of a long white corridor, so bright it almost looked pale blue. And standing in front of the TARDIS…
“Judoon,” the Doctor groaned, wrinkling his nose at the rhino-faced space thugs.
He jogged around the console and put his coat on, then looked seriously at Rose, Jenny, and Donna. “Judoon have no sense of humour,” he warned. “We’ve broken one of the rules of the Shadow Proclamation by landing without proper clearance.” He pressed his tongue to the back of his teeth. “Well, I say without clearance, but really, I have permanent clearance. But they’ll be testy with us regardless, so just… let me do the talking.”
It was a testament to how grave the situation was that not one of the ladies offered a snarky comment about what typically happened when he did the talking. Instead, Rose came around beside him and put her hand on his shoulder.
“Let’s go save the Earth.”
The trust in her eyes shone just as vibrantly over the bond, and he thanked her silently.
The console room was silent as he swung his coat around his shoulders. Then he drew a deep breath and pulled the door open, stepping out with Rose at his side and Jenny and Donna right behind them. The Judoon immediately primed their weapons, and he and Rose raised their hands so they would see they were unarmed.
The captain, the only Judoon not wearing a helmet, addressed the Doctor directly. “Sco bo tro no flo jo ko fo to to.” Are you the Time Lord?
The Doctor nodded. “No bo ho sho ko ro to so.” He paused, then rattled off the code word that would confirm his identity. “Bokodozogobofopojo.”
Every Judoon lowered their weapon and came to attention. The Doctor relaxed and dropped his hands, then tilted his head down and looked straight into the eyes of the captain, giving a single-word order.
“Moho.”
The guards did an about-face and marched off, and the captain straightened and spoke again, this time in English. “Apologies, Time Lord, but we could not take any chances. I will take you to the Shadow Architect now.”
Rose took the Doctor’s hand again as they fell in step with the Judoon captain, and he glanced over his shoulder to make sure Donna and Jenny were following. Both women nodded once, and he faced front again.
What was that all about? Rose asked.
They’re a bit on edge, the Doctor explained. Understandable really—wouldn’t you be if you were in charge of peace in the universe and a planet went missing? So I had to confirm that we were who we seemed to be, and now they’re taking us to see the Shadow Architect.
The captain led them into the main conference room. Two Judoon stood guard by the door of the empty room. While they waited for the Shadow Architect to arrive, the Doctor cast a sweeping gaze around the room. It had been remodelled since the last time he’d been there, taking on the same cold, unwelcoming atmosphere as the rest of the complex.
His keen ears heard soft footsteps approaching, and he straightened up as a tall albino woman entered the room. Her black dress and black snood against her pale skin and white hair made her look otherworldly. It was, he knew, a tool she used to keep her opponents off guard.
She sniffed as she paced along the head of the table. “Time Lords are the stuff of legend. They belong in the myths and whispers of the higher species.” She stood still, and the train on her gown fluttered around her ankles. “You cannot possibly exist.”
“Yeah.” The Doctor shoved his hands into his pockets—that pointless posturing reminded him why it had been so long since he’d been back here. “More to the point, I’ve got a missing planet.”
She shook her head, and for the first time, he saw a glimmer of emotion—anger—in her face. “Then you’re not as wise as the stories would say. The picture is far bigger than you imagine. The whole universe is in outrage, Doctor. Twenty-four worlds have been taken from the sky.”
“How many?” The Doctor jogged around the glass table so he could look at the computer terminal on the other end, leaping over a bench that stood in his way. “Which ones? Show me,” he demanded as he put his glasses on.
“Locations range far and wide,” she said, tapping in a command that brought up the list, “but all disappeared at the exact same moment, leaving no trace.”
The Doctor leaned down and read the list. “Callufrax Minor. Jahoo. Shallacatop. Woman Wept. Clom.”
“Clom’s gone?” Rose said as she joined him. “Who’d want Clom?”
The Architect’s nose thinned. “Who is the female?”
The Doctor wiped his mouth to hide his smirk as he stepped back, letting Rose speak for herself. Rose tilted her head back, and even though she was a good two inches shorter than the Shadow Architect, the proud way she held herself made it look like she was looking down at the other woman—who happened to be one of the most powerful politicians in the universe.
“I’m Rose. Rose Tyler. Other half of the Stuff of Legend.” She looked over her shoulder at the Doctor, an eyebrow arched. “Blimey, they’re a little behind the times around here, aren’t they?”
“Apparently,” the Doctor managed to say without laughing.
Jenny stepped forward and put her hands on the table. “And I’m Jenny Tyler. I’m their daughter.”
“Yeah, I notice you didn’t ask about us.” Anger glinted in Donna’s eyes. “I’m Donna, by the way. I’m a human being. Maybe not the stuff of legend, but every bit as important as Time Lords, thank you.”
The Shadow Architect turned to the Doctor, tight lines etched around her mouth. “You travel with an entourage, Time Lord.”
“Oh, I’m just the chauffeur,” the Doctor said blithely. “Now, tell me about these planets.”
Her nostrils flared, but she nodded and looked back at the monitor. “All different sizes. Some populated, some not. But all unconnected.”
“What about Pyrovillia?” Donna asked hesitantly.
The Doctor’s eyes widened. He hadn’t thought of the Pyrovile in months, not even when they were faced with missing planets, once again. He nodded at Donna over the Shadow Architect’s shoulder, and she straightened slightly.
“Way back, when we were in Pompeii, Lucius said Pyrovillia had gone missing.”
“Pyrovillia is cold case,” the Judoon captain grunted. “Not relevant.”
The Doctor and Rose both shivered as they felt timelines buzzing around the room. The Judoon was wrong, but how?
“What’s a cold case?” Jenny asked.
“The planet Pyrovillia cannot be part of this,” the Shadow Architect explained impatiently. “It disappeared over two thousand years ago.”
Rose crossed her arms over her chest and leaned her hip on the table. “That’s not the only missing planet we’ve run into recently though,” she countered. “What about the Adipose breeding planet? Miss Foster said it was lost, and that was why the Adipose royal family hired her to seed Earth.”
“Yeah, but that would have been a long time ago, too,” Donna countered.
Time! The one missing piece of information that had puzzled the Doctor slid into place. Planets didn’t just go missing. Even if you could move a planet, it would leave a trace—a trail of some kind you could follow. But he’d been unable to track Earth, and obviously the Shadow Proclamation had been unable to track the rest of the worlds.
“That’s it!” He pointed at the ceiling. “Donna, Rose—brilliant.” He looked at the Shadow Architect and explained quickly. “Planets are being taken out of time as well as space.” He adjusted the controls on the computer, asking it to pull up a simulation of the missing worlds. “Let’s put this into 3D.”
So that’s why we couldn’t find Earth? Rose said as holograms of the twenty-four missing worlds appeared over the table. Because it’s out of sync temporally?
He nodded as he quickly added planets to the model. “Now, if we add Pyrovillia and Adipose Three.” It was still just an assortment of planets, though. The Doctor tapped his fingers along the edge of the monitor. “Something missing. Where else, where else, where else?” he whispered. Missing wasn’t the right word, though. “Where else lost, lost, lost, lost?”
The memory clicked. A brilliant young graduate student and her paper that had led to her being on the Midnight tour. “Oh! The Lost Moon of Poosh.” A wave of vindication swept through him as he typed in the name; at least his misadventure on Midnight had had one positive result.
As soon as the 3D model of the Lost Moon of Poosh appeared, the planets shifted. “What did you do?” the Shadow Architect said, a hint of accusation in her voice.
“Nothing.” The Doctor walked into the middle of the projection and looked up at the twenty-seven planets, now acting like cogs in a machine. “The planets rearranged themselves into the optimum pattern. Oh, look at that. Twenty-seven planets in perfect balance. Come on, that is gorgeous.”
“Yeah, it’s beautiful Doctor,” Rose agreed. “But it’s also really bad news, isn’t it?” The Doctor turned to her, and she held his gaze. “Because if these worlds can arrange themselves into a perfect pattern like this, it means they were taken for a purpose. Someone is using Earth, and Woman Wept, and even Clom, to do something.”
And that’s why the stars are going out, she added silently.
The Doctor nodded, agreeing with both the stated and unstated parts of her theory. “All those worlds fit together like pieces of an engine. It’s like a powerhouse. What for?”
“Who could design such a thing?” the Shadow Architect asked, not unreasonably. It would take a brilliant scientist to come up with something like this.
The notion triggered a very distant memory in the Doctor’s mind. “Someone tried to move the Earth once before. Long time ago.” He dismissed the thought almost as soon as it occurred to him. Davros was gone—he’d witnessed his destruction at the jaws of the Nightmare Child himself. “Can’t be.”
The Shadow Architect angled her body towards the Doctor, effectively sliding in between Rose and the Doctor. “What is it, Doctor? A new possibility has occurred to you, I can see it in your eyes.”
Rose narrowed her eyes at the woman’s back and was half-tempted to push her way back into the conversation. Then she saw Jenny and Donna standing awkwardly at the other end of the room and changed her mind.
“Well,” she said drily as she joined them, “it seems I’m not quite legendary enough for my input to be sought after. Come on, let’s sit on the steps like the peasants we obviously are.”
Jenny chuckled as they all sat down on the glass staircase. “I think Dad would rather you stayed with him.”
Rose met the Doctor’s gaze and gently redirected his attention back to figuring out what had happened to Earth. That was more important than her pride. She knew he valued her opinion, which mattered more than someone she’d never met before and likely never would meet again.
“Doesn’t matter,” Rose said breezily.
Then she looked at Donna, who very uncharacteristically had not said a word. “Have you tried calling them?” she asked quietly.
Donna nodded. Rose saw her mouth moving, but a sudden swell of music made it impossible for her to focus on what her friend was saying. The song was like the TARDIS, but wilder, more untamed. She’d heard this version before…
“Rose! Donna shook her.
Rose blinked a few times, then realised a servant, a young albino girl, was trying to hand her a drink.
“You need sustenance. Take the water, it purifies.”
“Thanks.” Rose took the bowl and noticed that Donna and Jenny had already been served.
“It is almost time,” the girl said. “The wolf will howl again.”
Rose froze, then slowly lowered the bowl and looked up at the servant. “How do you know that?” she asked, her voice low and hoarse.
The albino’s red eyes seemed to stare right through her. “It must be you, no matter what he says.”
Then she bowed suddenly and scurried away.
“What was that?” Donna asked once they were alone.
Time swirled around Rose, and for a moment, she was in the TARDIS again, wearing this coat but with her hair down. The console room was on fire and sparks fell around her as she hung onto the jump seat for dear life.
The Doctor was suddenly in front her, crouching down so he could look into her eyes without her having to crane her neck up. “All right, love?” he asked quietly.
Rose nodded. Like the vision on Shan Shen, the details vanished as soon as she was pulled back to the present. “Just timelines.” She took his hand and squeezed, and after a moment, he squeezed back.
The Doctor shifted and sat down beside them, looking over at Donna. “Donna, help me out. Was there anything unusual happening on Earth before you left with us? Electrical storms, freak weather, patterns in the sky?”
“Well, how should I know?” Donna snapped, then she took a deep breath and wiped a tear from her eye. “Um, no. I don’t think so, no.”
“Oh, okay, never mind.” The Doctor sighed and stood back up.
“Although, there were the bees disappearing,” Donna said as he started down the stairs.
In the arch of the Doctor’s eyebrow, Rose could see the rude dismissal forming on the tip of his tongue. She shook her head quickly. Be gentle. Her whole family…
The Doctor pressed his lips together, and then said, “Right… the bees disappearing. You mentioned that…” His eyes widened suddenly. “The bees disappearing!” he crowed as he spun around and ran back to the computer terminal.
Rose, Jenny, and Donna exchanged a look, then all three of them jumped to their feet and followed him. They knew that victorious cry too well.
“How is that significant?” the Shadow Architect demanded.
“Bees are this Earth insect,” Rose explained.
“Yeah, and they’ve been disappearing,” Donna continued. “Some people said it was pollution or mobile phone signals.”
“Or,” the Doctor said as he typed feverishly,  “they were going back home.”
“Back home where?” Donna asked.
“Planet Melissa Majoria.”
“Wait.” Jenny held her hand up, and her eyes glowed with excitement. “Are you saying Earth has alien insects?”
The Doctor grinned up at her, then looked back at the monitor. “Yup! Not all bees are aliens, but if the migrant bees felt something coming, some sort of danger, and escaped? Tandocca,” he declared, pointing up at the Shadow Architect.
“The Tandocca Scale,” she said, finally sounding a little bit impressed.
For once, the Doctor explained without being asked. “Tandocca Scale is the series of wavelengths used as a carrier signals by migrant bees. Infinitely small. No wonder we didn’t see it. It’s like looking for a speck of cinnamon in the Sahara, but look, there it is.” He pointed at the screen, where a trail of tiny specks was following a large dot. “The Tandocca trail. The transmat that moved the planets was using the same wavelength—we can follow the path.”
Donna spun around and started running back to the TARDIS. “And find the Earth?” she called out over her shoulder. “Well, stop talking and do it.”
“I am!” he shouted at her back.
The Doctor, Rose, and Jenny all ran after Donna. The TARDIS had unlocked her door and they piled into the console room. Rose stood guard by the door they left ajar, while the Doctor ran straight for the computer terminal.
Come on, old girl. We can do it. Twenty-seven planets are counting on us today.
“We’re a bit late,” he warned as he shifted the wavelength the scanner was tracking. He held his breath as the TARDIS searched, not letting it out until the trail appeared on the monitor. “The signal’s scattered, but it’s a start.”
He ran back down the ramp and stuck his head out the door. “I’ve got a blip,” he told the Shadow Architect, who’d followed them back to the TARDIS with Judoon in tow. “It’s just a blip, but it’s definitely a blip.”
Her eyes glittered in excitement. “Then according to the strictures of the Shadow Proclamation, I will have to seize your transport and your technology.”
Rose took half a step towards the open door, but the Doctor reached for her shoulder and squeezed. I know you want to burst through the doors and take her down a few pegs, he told Rose while they waited for an answer, but we don’t have time. Can you get the TARDIS ready to leave?
She sighed, but a moment later, he heard her behind him, adjusting the controls so the ship would follow the trail they’d picked up. Confident that they’d be ready to leave momentarily, he looked at the Architect. “Oh, really? What for?”
The Shadow Architect and her Judoon guards were none the wiser to the private conversation. “The planets were stolen with hostile intent,” she said, lifting her chin defiantly. “We are declaring war, Doctor, right across the universe, and you will lead us into battle.”
You were right, Rose—their files are definitely out of date and inaccurate. Not even UNIT would try to get me to use the TARDIS as a weapon.
“Right,” he said out loud. “Yes. Course I will. I’ll just go and get you the key.”
He slid back into the ship and softly closed the door, then tossed his coat over a strut as Rose hit the dematerialisation lever.
“Let’s go find some missing planets,” he said as he raced up the ramp to join her.
oOoOoOoOo
Mickey tried Rose’s number for the twentieth time, but once again it went straight to voicemail. “Where are you, babe?” he muttered as he crept through the streets of Chiswick.
If you’d told him that one day, he would be ducking and hiding as he ran down a quiet residential street in Chiswick of all places, he would have laughed in your face. But he’d just barely managed to avoid a Dalek patrol, and he definitely did not want to be caught.
“Halt. You will come with me.”
Mickey froze, then slowly snuck forward. The Dalek was just around the corner, and it sounded like it might be alone. He could handle one on its own.
“Will I heck,” a man growled, and then Mickey heard a splat that sounded like a paint ball hitting something.
“My vision is not impaired,” the Dalek said.
“I warned you, Dad,” a tearful woman said.
“Hostility will not be tolerated.”
Mickey set his jaw. That was his cue. He gripped his gun tighter, and as the Dalek started crying, “Exterminate,” he wheeled around the corner and shot its head off.
On the other side of the smoking Dalek remains, an elderly man blinked up at him. “Do you want to swap?” he asked, holding up what was indeed a paint gun.
Mickey chuckled. “Nah, I’m good, mate,” he said. Then he looked sternly at the man and his daughter. “Listen to me, both of you. Go back home and lay low. Daleks don’t take resistance kindly. We’re hopefully going to get rid of them, but until we do, you cannot draw attention to yourselves. Got it?”
The woman nodded fiercely, then tugged the man down the street. “Come on, Dad,” Mickey heard her say as they jogged off. “I don’t want to die tonight.”
Mickey shook his head as they left, then he looked at the Dalek remains. Seeing it up close and personal brought back memories of working at the Torchwood in this universe, and the last time he’d seen the Doctor and Rose.
Torchwood. Suddenly, he knew where he needed to go. It was time to get help from an old friend.
oOoOoOoOo
The TARDIS’ wheezing slowed as she took them out of the Vortex back into space. The time rotor pumped up and down a few more times, then stopped with a jaw-rattling thud. Rose and the Doctor looked at the monitor, then frowned at each other; there were no planets anywhere nearby at all. Certainly not twenty-seven of them.
“It’s stopped,” the Doctor said. He twisted a dial, but the ship remained where she was. The trail ended here.
“What do you mean?” Donna moved around the console to look at the monitor with them. “Is that good or bad? Where are we?”
“The Medusa Cascade.” He hit a button on the monitor and the computer report detailing their location was replaced by the feed from the external video. Donna sucked in a breath at the glorious cloud of colours, and Jenny came up on his other side to see it.
“Oh, it’s beautiful!” she whispered, touching the monitor where navy blue faded into brilliant violet. “It reminds me of the painting hanging over your bed,” she added.
The Doctor and Rose exchanged a smile, remembering the last time they’d seen this wonder of the universe. “Yeah, that painting is a picture of the view of the Medusa Cascade from a nearby planet,” he told Jenny. “We’ve been here before. Well.” He tugged on his ear. “I’ve been here a few times. Back when I was a kid, it was the centre of a rift in time and space.”
Jenny nodded, then bit her lip and peered more closely at the monitor. “But… I don’t see any planets,” she said after a moment.
The Doctor sighed and stuck his hands in his trouser pockets. “We followed the Tandocca Trail, but it stops dead. End of the line.”
They were close; he could feel it. He just needed a bit of time to figure out how to actually find the planets.
Donna’s eyes widened and she shook her head. “So what do we do?” She looked at the monitor, then back at him. “Doctor, what do we do?”
Rose stepped around the Doctor to grab Donna by the shoulders. “Donna, listen,” she said, making her voice as gentle as possible. “We are going to find the Earth, do you hear me? We will find your mum and granddad. But you need to calm down, all right?”
“But how?” Donna asked, a hysterical edge in her voice. “I’ve tried… I’ve tried calling, and no one answers. And…” She swallowed. “This was our one chance, and it didn’t work. The planets aren’t there. They aren’t anywhere.”
Rose shook Donna gently. “Do you remember UNIT? Maybe you can’t get through, and maybe Wilf can’t call you, but our friends on Earth will be trying to reach us, and they have better technology than your basic mobile phone.” She opened a drawer and pulled out her phone. “We just need to wait for them to find us.”

Since the day Susan had shown up unexpectedly at the clubhouse, things hadn't been easy. Angel was constantly on guard and the feeling of being followed had reappeared. There had been one or two times over the past few months that Angel felt someone was following her, especially when she had one of the children with her. Just like the last time, Angel refused to tell anyone in the club. She figured it was her paranoia since Susan had reappeared in her life. Angel told Edward and he had suggested she tell her dad, but she just waved him off. It would do no good at this point in time.
Since Susan’s reappearance, Bobby seemed to become more overprotective and demanding to know where Angel was going and who she was going to be with. Angel tried her best not to lie to her father but she knew if she actually told him who she was seeing, he’d want to meet him. Then all the guys would want to meet him and they’d run Edward off. Angel wanted to keep this part of her life for herself. Angel realized that when she was with David, she shared that part of her life too much with her family and tried to force David into that. It was one of the reasons for the breakup after all. No, Angel would keep her life with Edward for herself. It had been almost a year since they started and she had managed to keep his identity secret so far.
Edward would be leaving soon for the military and Angel would no longer have to continue lying to everyone. Thankfully she had been able to get Jessica and Donna to help cover for her. Jessica and Edward lived close to one another so Angel was always “hanging out at Jessica’s”.  Donna was always trying her best to distract the guys from the fact that Angel was sneaking around.
---------------- --------------- -------------
Angel arrived at the clubhouse with her arms full of bags of food for the mechanics and Gemma. She knew she had been distant lately as she spent more time with Edward and this was her way of making up for it. As she set the food down on the picnic tables, she caught the sight of Bambi storming into Gemma’s office and slamming the door. Bambi was 14 and very much a mixture of Happy and Tig, personality wise. She was more like Tig in regards to her emotions, she was guided by her feelings but she was smart about not letting them overwhelm her. Angel looked around the lot and toward the clubhouse. She knew she needed to check with Bambi before anything.
“Hey guys! I brought lunch. Help yourselves and don’t forget to clean up!” Angel shouted and waved at all the mechanics, who cheered as they walked over to the food.
“Thank ya lass. What’s the occasion?” Chibs was the first to the table and wrapped his arms around her shoulders. Angel just smiled and shrugged before returning the hug. “Just missed you guys. Now eat up! I’m going to take some to Gemma.”
Angel grabbed enough food for Gemma and Bambi before making her way over to the office. She stood outside the door briefly and heard sniffling. Giving a small knock, Angel waited until the door was opened. “Hey you two, brought some food.”
Gemma stepped back and let Angel in the door before closing and locking it once more. Taking the food from Angel, she set it on her desk and went back to sitting with Bambi.
“What’s going on? Bambs, what’s wrong sweetie?” Angel knelt down in front of her sister and started to wipe the tears away. Bambi looked at Angel and clenched her jaw, “T-t-they’re fighting again and won’t stop screaming!”
“Who’s fighting, Bambi?”
“Uncle Kozzy! Dad! They just keep yelling and they won’t stop. I ask what’s wrong and I’m told it’s none of my business! And now Uncle Kozzy is…” Bambi stopped mid sentence and took a deep breath. “He’s leaving! He’s transferring charters and he’s leaving!”
Angel sat back on her heels and stared at Bambi. Kozik and Tig were best friends and rarely argued. “I’ll figure out what’s going on ok? Stay here, eat some food. I baked you and Gemma some cupcakes, just for you two. I’ll see what I can find out.”
Gemma leaned against the desk with her arms crossed over her chest as she watched the two interact. Over the past few years Gemma had felt Angel slipping away from them. She had watched as the girl she considered her daughter was no longer wanting to associate with the SAMRCO family and, although Gemma refused to admit it, knowing Angel was pulling away hurt. She had felt that pull even more when David was around Angel. She had caught multiple conversations about getting out of Charming together and getting far from the club.
Gemma eyed Angel carefully. “So what’s your plan then?”
Angel looked up at Gemma and shrugged. “I’m just going to see what I can find out. Or at least get one of them to calm down enough to tell me.”
---------------- --------------- -------------
Angel made her way over to the clubhouse, where she could hear the yelling once she opened the door. She closed the door quietly behind her and stood there with her arms crossed. Tig and Kozik were yelling at each other in the middle of the room with others trying to keep them apart.
“What the hell guys!” Angel stood with her hands on her hips as she glared at the two. “Either of you care to explain why my little sister is pissed off at you two and hiding in Gemma’s office? Or why she says Koz is leavin?”
Tig held out his hand to silence Angel and shook his head. “Not your issue. This is between us. You ain’t part of this club. Go outside until this is over.”
Angel narrowed her eyes at Tig but stood her ground. “It’'s my issue when my little sis-"
“She is not your sister and I said this doesn't concern you, Angel! She is my daughter and I will deal with her later! Now get out!”
Angel stood shocked. Never had Tig spoken to her like that. The others stood in silence as Kozik took a step in front of Angel and pointed jabbed his finger in Tig’s chest.
“Don’t fucking raise your voice to her prick! Just because you’re incapable of seeing shit for how it is...at least SHE IS worried about Bambi. There ain’t nothing else we need to talk about here.”
Kozik put his hand on Angel’s shoulder and guided her out of the clubhouse. “Want to take a ride with me? I need to get away from here for a bit?” Kozik didn’t give Angel a real chance to respond as he continued to guide her toward his bike and handed over his helmet. Angel knew that if she wanted answers that she would just have to go with him. Quickly she pulled on the helmet and climbed on the back of his bike.
Angel held on tightly to Kozik as he drove out of Charming. The feeling of being on the back of the bike was something Angel missed. As they drove, she closed her eyes and thought back to all the times she had been on the back of her father’s bike. Since Bobby’s last release from prison, Angel realized they had not taken a drive together. The last time Angel was on the back of a bike was the day Clay had taken her for a drive.
Angel wasn’t sure how long they had really ridden for and she refused to complain. It was comforting to be on the back of the bike. Soon Kozik stopped driving and tapped her hands with a chuckle. Angel mumbled an apology and let go. She hadn’t realized she had wrapped her arms so tightly around him.
“Hey thanks for coming out here with me. I’m sorry he was such an ass.”
Angel got off the bike and waved her hand dismissively. “Meh, it was bound to happen one day. Wasn’t the first time I’ve been yelled at to stay out “club business”, won’t be the last. Want to tell me what all the fighting was about though?”
Kozik smiled and threw an arm around her shoulder and guided her away from the bike. Angel finally took in the area and smiled. They were at a park that sat right off the water. “Nice try kiddo. Look, I’m gonna be leaving soon. I’m transferring up to Tacoma.  I want you to stay safe down here. Things with the club are...strained right now. Take care of Bambi too.”
The two sat in silence for a while before Angel finally spoke up. “Hey, remember how a while back there was that incident...the one where I thought I was being followed?”
“Yeah...Angel, how long?”
“About 6 months now, maybe longer. Since the double-mint-devils appeared in my life again.”
“Shit. Why haven’t you told anyone?”
“I”m telling you now.” She grinned at him.
Kozik laughed and shook his head before throwing his arm around her again and pulling her close. He pressed his lips to the side of her head, “You’re such a little shit, I hope you know that.”
---------------- --------------- -------------
Sitting at the dining room table, Angel stared at the different packets in front of her. She and Edward had talked about her going off to school and he actively encouraged her to start looking at wherever SHE wanted to go. “Why go where people want you to? Go where you want! You want to go to Alaska, fuckin go to school in Alaska! You want to stay close to home, stay close to home. It’s your choice babe, it’s your life and your choices.” In front of here were four different schools she had been accepted to. She could stay closer to home and go to school in San Francisco, as that wasn’t too far from home. Then there were schools in Arizona like she and David had planned. Then Washington and finally, Colorado.
Angel finally settled and knew where she would be going, now all she needed was to talk to Bobby and Precious about her decision. She knew that Precious would support her no matter what she decided. She was currently the only other person that knew Angel was looking to go to college.
“Tacoma? Seriously? What the hell do you want to school there for? Who the fuck talked you into this?”
“Dad, cmon. I need to do something with my life! The past year all I did was work and try to get over David! This is for ME, no one else. I have enough saved up to pay for most of it myself. It's either this or Arizona. And I know you haven't been ok with me going near those charters since our last visit when you punched a guy in the face for grabbing my ass.”
Bobby got up and pushed his chair roughly away before leaving the room. “Go wherever the hell you want,” he mumbled on the way out.
Angel remained seated in the chair. She gripped the acceptance letters and bit at her lip, trying not to let tears spill. She had prepared herself for him having a bad reaction but she did not expect him to walk away from her.
Precious stood up and walked around the table, wrapping her arms around Angel. “It’s ok baby girl. Ignore mr. grumpy. This is for you to better yourself. You want to go to Tacoma, Tiki and I will drive you up there ourselves. I am so proud of you Angel, you worked hard and you are going to be the first Munson to go to college! Hell you’re gonna be the first Samcro baby to go to college!”
Angel wrapped her arms around Precious’s middle and sniffled. “Why is he such an ass lately? I thought he would actually be proud of me for this.”
“Like I said, ignore him. Now that you’ve decided on where you’re going. We need to find you a place of your own. Your dad will come around and you know he’ll want you near the club as much as you can be. We have some time before school starts. Let’s not worry about his attitude and just enjoy getting you ready for your new adventure.”
---------------- --------------- -------------
Angel curled on the sofa next to Edward. A random horror movie was playing but Angel paid very little attention to it. Kozik had been gone over a month and things at the club hadn't felt right. Bambi glared at Tig more often than not and Angel knew there was something else going on. When she had announced her plans to go to college out of state, all but Piney, Opie, Chibs, and Jax walked away from her. Even Gemma seemed more distant. Luanne had been sad at first but she was nothing but supportive for Angel getting out of Charming.
“Hey you ok babe?” Edward kissed at her shoulder and wrapped his arms around her tighter. Angel glanced up at him and snuggled into his arms more, giving him a small nod. “Yea just thinking about things. I told my family about wanting to go to school. They haven’t taken it so well. The only people who are even a bit supportive of me are you, my mom, and my brothers. I Don’t know if I can go through with this. And then there’s us, ya know...There’s just a lot on my mind right now”
“What do you mean?”
“Like, I have no idea what we are. We’ve spent a lot of time together this past year and I like being around you. But I’m not sure what we really are or what is going to come of us.” Angel played with the hem of her shirt and refused to meet his eyes.  She wasn't sure why she had brought this up,  they were supposed to be enjoying the little while they had left together.
“Hey now, you have become one of my greatest friends and I do like you a lot Angel. I’m not sure what we are and I know we’ll be going different ways soon. I can say that you are the only one I’ve been with since we started whatev...well whatever it is that we have.” Edward leaned back on the couch and pulled Angel to straddle his lap,  “I’ve only wanted you.  C'mon,  we've been inseparable for a year,  I love you in so many ways.  Until we go our separate ways, I will do anything you ask of me, babe.”
Angel wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed against his body. “I like and love you a lot too Eddie. I’m going to miss you when you leave.”
“I’m going to miss you too. But we’re gonna write to each other and when if I'm in your neck of the woods,  well I'm staying at your place and eating your food.  You ain’t getting rid of me that easy babe. I’ll be back before you know it. And I’m sure you’ll find some lucky bastard to call your own while I’m away. Let’s just enjoy our time together.”
Eddie pulled her completely onto his lap and wrapped his arms around her middle. He pulled at the collar of her top and attached his lips to the side of her neck. Angel gripped the back of his shirt and bit her lip, trying to hold in a moan. “No teasing tonight Eddie,” she whimpered as he began to grind herself against his lap.
Eddie chuckled against her skin and continued to nibble and scrape his teeth against her sensitive skin. “But that’s where all the fun starts.”
---------------- --------------- -------------
Angel sat in her bedroom, surrounded by half filled boxes and her luggage with clothes just thrown in. It was a week before she would be leaving off to Tacoma and she wasn’t prepared. Despite the arguing and trying to convince Angel to stay close, Bobby had relented and actually took Angel up to find her own place near the college. They had managed to find her a studio apartment that was near the campus but close enough to the SAMTAC clubhouse. Angel knew she would be spending a lot of time there when she wasn’t studying and Bobby had promised to bring Precious and Robbie up to visit as much as possible.
Angel was glad that Edward had left before her. She couldn’t deal with leaving to Washington before him and not being able to see him off. Edward has left for basic two weeks ago. He gave Angel the information as to where she could write to him and she promised to send him a letter as soon as she was moved into her new apartment. Angel continued to pack her belongs and let her mind wander between what she needed and resisting the urge to cry when she thought of Eddie. She grabbed at a shirt and smiled. It was one that Eddie had given her. Angel had been wearing it to bed for some time now.
Precious leaned against the door and watched Angel move around the room. She watched her for a while with a fond smile on her face. They had come a long way in the past years and had grown closer. Despite her and Bobby slowly growing apart, Precious knew that Angel would always have a place in her heart. “Knock. Knock. How’s the packing going? Need anything?”
Angel looked up and smiled, setting the shirt in the nearest box. “Hey, I’m good. Just trying to figure out what I need. I mean, do I take everything, most things? Is this even the right thing for me to do?”
Precious made her way over and sat on the bed next to Angel. “This is 100% the right thing for you to do. Do not let yourself be stifled and held down because you’re not sure the men could live without you here. You’re only going to be in Tacoma. They go up there so often that their excuses for being angry are bullshit. This is your life. Not mine, not your father’s. As for what you take, that’s up to you. This is your apartment. Whatever you need once we’re there, well we’ll go out and get it for you.”
Angel smiled and wrapped her arms around the woman, squeezing her tightly. “Thank you Mom.”
---------------- --------------- -------------
Angel sat backward on the chair, her chest pressed against the cushion back. Bobby sat in front of her and stroked the back of her hands. Angel took a deep, shuddering breath when she heard the machine turn on. “It's ok baby. Happy is gonna be as gentle as possible. Deep, even breaths. Don't think of it.” her father's voice was reassuring.
“I got ya little girl. This won't take too long, let your pop know if it's too much and I'll stop.”
Angel could hear the words of encouragement from her brothers and uncles. Angel tensed as the needle hit first broke the skin. There was no going back after this. Angel kept her eyes closed and squeezed at her father's hands again. She could hear Clay's deep chuckle close by. This was probably a sight to see. Angel had her hair pushed over her face to expose her neck, she was clutching bobby's hands tightly, she had a stuffed animal between herself and the chair and was large enough that she could reach and bite it,  oh and she was in her lime green pajamas and  surrounded by men in biker vests in the middle of the clubhouse, getting her first tattoo.
It didn't take long for Angel to get used to the needles pricking her skin.  It still hurt but she did what she could to not make much noise or move.  Happy could sense when Angel wanted to flinch and removed the gun to give her a chance to move.   It didn’t take much longer for Happy to finish. Angel stayed seated in her chair and waited for everyone to come over and look at the fresh ink on her skin. Bambi was the last over and looked over the tattoo critically. The young girl pressed the surrounding skin and smirked when Angel jumped.
“Damnit Bambi!” Angel spun her head to glare at her little sister and cringed at the pain. Bambi stood there with a smirk on her face and gave a nod of approval. “Looks good.”
---------------- --------------- -------------
It was finally time. The cars were packed and the house was packed with people coming to see Angel off to Tacoma. Donna held Angel tight, whispering how she would do her best to bring Ellie up often to see her before letting go and wiping her tears away. Everybody wrapped their arms around Angel and bid her farewell. The last two were Gemma and Luanne.
Luann quickly and wrapped Angel in her arms. “I’m going to miss you, baby. You stay safe, you hear me? You need anything, I’m one call away and I will be up there for whatever you need. I love you, my sweet girl”
Angel held onto her aunt tightly and sniffled back her tears. “I love you too. I promise to keep in touch. I’m going to miss you so much.”
Gemma cleared her throat and shooed away Luanne before opening her arms. Angel reluctantly let go of Luanne and made her way into Gemma’s arms. Gemma held her tightly and rocked her back and forth. “Shit, my little girl is all grown up and flying away from the nest. I wasn’t ready for this day.”
Angel chuckled and relaxed into the embrace. “Don’t worry Ma, it won’t be for long. I’ll be back before you know it. And it’s only Tacoma. You know they’ll look after me. If not, I’ll kick their asses.”
“Gemma chuckled and pressed a kiss to her forehead. “That’s my girl. You keep those men in line. Don’t let them give you shit. You are as important to the club as Opie and Jax. They better treat you right.”
Once everyone had bid Angel a goodbye and the cars were packed, the Munson family was on the road. Angel and Precious each drove their own car as Bobby followed behind on his bike. They reached Tacoma before the end of the day and settled into the clubhouse for the night. Angel had snagged little Robbie and they went to share a room for the night. He was one of the people that Angel would miss the most. Angel snuggled her baby brother close and, despite the loud music and noise coming from outside the room, the two passed out quickly.
By early morning, everyone was awake and the Munsons were on the way to Angel’s new apartment. It didn’t take long for them to unload everything that Angel had packed. Precious had insisted on buying most of her apartment stuff in Charming, “so she has things from home!” and there was little that they needed to actually get for her.
Precious, Bobby, and Robbie spent the rest of the week with Angel as she settled into her new home. By the end of their time together, Angel had already checked into school, had orientation, bought all her books, signed up for some clubs, and was ready for her parents to leave and enjoy her new freedom. Bobby was reluctant to leave his only daughter. He knew things had been rough between the two, but he knew that this was something she was determined to do and he needed to support her. With promises that she would call weekly and that Bobby would come up to visit once in a while, Angel was finally free to enjoy her new apartment.
---------------- --------------- -------------
The semester seemed to go by quickly for Angel. In the short time she was in Tacoma, she had already found a part time job at one of the local cafes working the register and had signed up for various clubs. She had met many other students who lived in the same complex as her and they all met up weekly to hang out and work on any school projects. Then there was Johnny, who was becoming one of Angel’s closet friend.
The two met through mutual acquaintances and realized they had a few classes together. Angel was glad to be in Tacoma, where her last name didn’t bring the realization that she was a daughter of a Son. In Tacoma, she was just Angel - the girl who spent way too much time carrying her guitar around and with crumbs in her sweater. Angel and Johnny spent a lot of time together once they realized how close they lived to one another and that they both played instruments. Along with two other friends, the four thought it would be fun to start their own “band”.
Angel had kept her promise and called Precious and Bobby weekly. Angel had even found the time to call Gemma and Luanne, keeping them updated on what was going on in her life. Angel didn’t mind having to make the phone calls so much. It was her reminder to check her mail box, always with high hopes that she would have a letter.
The campus and surrounding areas was abuzz with student activity. Homecoming weekend was here and everyone celebrating. Nothing official was scheduled until the following day but that didn’t stop every bar, club, and business from opening their doors to the visitors. Angel pulled the mail from her box and laughed as Johnny twirled and danced behind her. The two had just got back from a small party at a local club and Johnny was hyped up from all the music. “Come on Angel! I need to MOVE! Ahh, that band was amazing! We should do that ya know. I think with some more work, our band could totally do that shit!”
Grabbing at his jacket, Angel leaned against Johnny with a large smile on her face. “He wrote back,” she waved the letter and squealed before jumping around happily.
“He? Ohhh lover boy has finally written his fair maiden?  Come on, open it!”
“Let’s get inside first, idiot. It’s cold and I am not in cold-fighting apparel!”
As the two curled on her bed, Angel slowly opened the letter and read it out.
HELLO BEAUTIFUL!
So I finally got the letter you sent. Glad you’re all settled in nicely. Things here are...well they are what they are. I’ve had my ass behind handed to me more times than I can count. Thanks for the picture of us. I’m keeping that close to my heart. Mostly because these idiots don’t believe I have a smokin hot babe back home. Well not so much home anymore, are you?
How’s the school life treating you? Exploring your options yet? I hope no one is giving you a hard time. I know your dad was being a shit about you leaving for school but I’m proud of you! You’re off on your own, making new memories, new friends...just don’t replace me!
Ok I warned you I was horrible at writing these type of things. There’s not much happening here. Lots of getting yelled at, horrible food, and being up at ungodly times. The lack of privacy here is frustrating. Shit, What I wouldn’t give to be in bed with you by my side again. Ok, nope! Won’t go down that path. It won’t be too long before we see each other again. Maybe I’ll be able to come visit your new place.
Holding the letter to her chest, Angel couldn’t help but smile wide. Johnny laughed at her antics and snuggled close to her. “So think lover boy will come visit you? You gonna tell him that you have replaced him with a devilishly tall and handsome brunette? He may have your love in bed but I have your love in music!”
Johnny and Angel laughed he rambled on. The two were becoming quickly inseparable and it was something Angel thoroughly enjoyed. She finally had a friend who would do whatever she wanted and didn’t expect anything but her company in return. “Yea, I’ll tell him all about you the next time I write him. Now go to sleep jerkface! And don’t hog my blankets! Tomorrow is…”
“HOMECOMING!” The two laughed together as they heard shouts from their neighbors to quiet down.

H&CF 04x06 : A Connection Is Made
This show just ruminates in my head and there’s so much to love about this episode...
EDITED for realizations about the sketchy nature of Alexa Vonn, as well as the Donna/Joe dynamic...
Joe’s Comet slogans are pretty awful, but I’m glad to see Cam wanting to be his focus group. It says a lot that they made it through last week’s revelations and are spending time in the Airstream together.
Speaking of which, “Cheese egg??” Still sounds vile, but aww.
Donna ousting Cecil was rough, but I like the softness it brings out of her... even if it is partially a manipulation so she doesn't have to face Cameron.
Donna’s idea of “the truth” (that she wants Cecile to tell) is such a lie. Donna needs to reconnect with honesty in such a big way. She’s not being open or transparent with anyone in her life right now and it’s so corrosive.
ROCKETS!!!
Hayley’s idea of “just us” means Gordon, Joe, and Cam (plus a bonus of Katie for her dad). That just warms my heart. Although, I do wonder why no Joanie? (Considering their bonding later, I find it a nice parallel that this is also who Joe would pick as his “just us” group.)
El Gordo means handsome. Ha!
“He asked me for help, I didn’t go out and write him an algorithm.” Gordon has her here. Cam has a bunch of money and could have given him a nice chunk of change, or steered him to tell Diane, or towards other talented coders, but she “wanted to see if she could do it”. First and foremost she wanted to help Bos, but Gordon knows she was also just itching to touch a keyboard. “I know you. You dream in code.” I love where their relationship is at.
Joe scampering up to Cam like an eager puppy to ask her to film them is ADORABLE. And how endearing Cam finds it is pretty darn adorable too.
The whole rocket seen is so joyous and such a respite for this show/entire series. I could have watched it all the live long day.
Cut to Donna all alone with “music to kill yourself by”. :(
Joanie asks how Bos is. She lied her way into the hospital to see him. She’s really a good egg underneath the bluster.
When Donna reminisces about her crazy/brave moment of freedom that she covets from her youth, she recalls a camping trip with Gordon. This is so sad because she led Gordon to believe she really hated camping, but clearly that’s not the whole truth.
Donna’s cartwheel... You could still be crazy, Donna! Just remember what Gordon said before you went to Comdex with the Giant... “You're crazy, too. No, no, you forget that, but you are. We were both crazy and then all of a sudden, you decided you needed to be the sane one. That you needed to take care of me, but you don't. Look, be crazy with me.” She has it in her. She’s trying so hard to be sane, she’s going the bad kind of crazy.
Joe wants kids SO bad. My heart aches for him.
Cameron’s line about how, “Kids are great if you can give birth to a 14 year-old” echoes what she told Bos about how if were up to her, she and Tom would “get them out of a vending machine like everything else in Japan”. It’s definitely not a flat out condemnation of having children in general, but it shows a real hesitation about babies and possibly pregnancy? I wonder if Cam has any concerns over fertility considering her inability to get pregnant with Tom? I wonder if Cam wants kids, but feels too irresponsible/selfish to devote herself to an infant? Yes, Cam was awkward as hell with Bos’s grandson, but that was 7+ years ago when she was a very different person in a very different place. Plus, being awkward with other people’s babies (especially if you’ve never been around a baby before) doesn’t mean you don’t ever want your own. I’m basically just feeling like the show is setting us/Joe up to make assumptions about what Cam wants, when the only thing she’s ever said outright is that she wasn’t ready/didn’t want children with Tom. And considering she wanted Tom to leave and was really in love with Joe, that makes total sense. Part of me feels like Bos is right, and Cam might surprise us with how she actually feels on the subject...
Hayley sending the “Cameron Howe Fansite”, and the way it made Cam realize she’s created many things that are loved, was a well placed nudge in the right direction. (Tangent: So many reviewers are misattributing the fansite to Alexa Vonn, so I’m going to get into this for a sec... Alexa Vonn is the woman who asked Cam questions about Pilgrim at the MISC panel before Cam/Donna had their showdown. After seeing the fansite Hayley sent her, Cam was inspired to take the meeting with Alexa who had been trying to get in contact with Cam via email since MISC. Alexa offers Cam a job because she admires Cam’s skills and world-building capabilities, but Alexa has absolutely zero to do with the fansite.)
As much as I love "The Howe of it All”... How did the author of it get those pretty personal pictures of Cam (At her desk at Cardiff? With her Mutiny team back in TX?) Was it created by one of her former coder monkeys? I’m probably overthinking something they don’t want me too...
Joe’s computer is still running Loadstar. Brand/girlfriend loyalist!
Hayley crushing on Vanessa was just delightful. And her losing her train of thought because of it was so spot-on. Susannah Skaggs has been Knocking. It. Out. Of. The. Park.
And Joe realizing Hayley has a crush is some of the loveliest work by Pace to date. Joe’s warm, protective face! Golden! He feels such a kinship with her and it’s so pure.
Joe’s, “she seems cool,” was the perfect touch. Approval without calling her out.
Hayley getting along with Katie so well this week made me realize that perhaps last week she more flustered by listening to PJ Harvey than she was over Katie and Joanie bonding or even her dad’s sex life. Joanie asking if she could borrow the PJ Harvey Walkman to go after and check on Hayley makes me think that maybe Joanie is clued in to her sister’s sexuality... Especially because later we see Hayley listening to it, not Joanie. Maybe? Maybe not?
“Mutiny was the most fun I ever had.” Great call back to S3 finale.
Community was Donna’s brainchild and it was so heartwarming to have coder guy, Bobby Aron, tell her how much it meant to him. Unfortunately it was even more heartbreaking to watch her implode the whole thing by drinking herself into bed with him.
Loved the continuing reversal of traditional roles by having Diane propose to John. Huss was wonderful in his reveal of John’s betrayal. I want John happy so I’m glad it looks like they’ll pull through as a couple...
I love Hayley, but I agree with Gordon that she can’t be flunking school. That wasn’t their deal and Hayley didn’t even seem aware of how badly she was failing. And poor Gordon was actually handling the situation pretty well until the milkshake went flying. On the other hand, Hayley clearly needs Comet, so I hope they take Joe’s advice and find a compromise to get her back in the door.
Gordon trying to slam the soft-closing door. 🤣 Poor Gordo is always feeling impotent when he’d like to feel powerful.
I felt like Diane was very harsh on Donna, but perhaps deservedly so... As heart-wrenching as Donna’s “I can’t, I can’t, I just - can’t” was, it only proved that she’s letting a 7 year old wound rule her and drive her business decisions - in more ways than one. That coupled with her drinking problem and I think Diane is right to draw a hard line.
I’m not sure what I think of Alexa Vonn and her offer to “stay out of [Cam’s] way”. That was an interesting callback to what Joe told her at Lev’s hospital beside back in the day. It’s very cool to get bankrolled to do whatever you want, no strings attached, but my Spidey sense is tingling. Sounds too good to be truly stringless.
EDIT: I rewatched the Alexa scene and she actually comes off a lot like old-school Joe MacMillan. She acknowledges some flaws in Cam’s work, but is extraordinarily praising. She promises the future and what it could hold. How Cam could utilize new technology to bring about that change. She even goes so far as to call Cam a “builder”, which is what Joe has always called Gordon. And most damning of all? She said she got a copy of Pilgrim from Atari because “you can get anything if you know how to ask”. Dun dun dunnnn!! Now if that doesn’t sound like old-Joe/Joe MacMillian Sr., I don’t know what does. Alexa definitely has me worried that she’s just another parasite that she’s claiming she won’t be.
EDIT: I also forgot to mention my theory ax to why Alexa has the money to fund Cameron at such a young age... it's very possible Alexa comes from inherited wealth. Joe wasn't handed his father's money at a young age because he was expected to earn his own way, but if he had been, he could have funded a project like this. (Remember the house he grew up in?) I'm banking that Alexa is independently wealthy and works as a reporter/investor just because she wants to and gaming/tech is where her interest lies. But I guess we'll see...
All this being said, I love that Alexa called out Cameron on the fact that she really didn’t want anyone to win Pilgrim. She made it so difficult that only people who truly know Cam have a chance -- which makes sense because she was isolated when she wrote it and was craving connection with the people who knew her best... Which is why Donna is excelling. Although I think she’s also excelling because it’s the only connection Donna has to Cam right now, so it drives her back to the game repeatedly. Joe, on the other hand, played the game before he and Cam got back together. We know he “hasn’t finished it yet”, but I wonder if he’s played it at all since they became a couple. Joe tends to go in for the human touch when he can. Generally speaking he’s only resorted to playing games to be near Cam when they were estranged.
Why is Gordon SO freaking inept at cleaning that window!
I love Joe and Gordon’s friendship SO MUCH. I love that Joe went to check on Gordon and how subtle and supportive he was trying to be of both Gordon and Hayley simultaneously. However, Gordon really stepped in it with the “you just want what’s best for you” and the “you’re not a parent and you never will be” crap. Does Gordon really not see how Joe has changed over the years? How Joe has made huge strides even from a few episodes back when Gordon told him he pushes people too much? Since then, Joe has made a marked effort to not push Hayley or Cameron or Gordon for that matter, but instead to ask their opinion and be more considerate.
Again, I need to praise Pace’s acting. Joe’s silent devastation at being told by his best friend that not only will he never have kids, but also that he doesn’t have what it takes to be a parent, period, is palatable and particularly difficult to watch.
The reveal of Donna’s drinking problem is also terribly painful. Joanie was so excited to talk about France and bond and then it all just fades into resigned disappointment.
It’s a little thing, but I really like that when Joanie doesn’t want to play Pilgrim with her mother, she says she wants to “go check on Hayley”. Clark sisters are my fav sisters.
Do Hayley and Joanie talk about how their mom is drinking too much?
Joe and Bos bonding warms my heart. Gordon’s remarks from earlier were so stuck in Joe’s head in this scene. I’m glad Bos can see that Joe’s changed and flat out told him so.
Joe did used to be an asshole and Bos once had the police kick the shit out of Joe as a power play to make him fall in line. They’ve both come a long way.
Joe telling Bos he always has a place to stay if things don’t work out with Diane? Case in point. And very sweet. Joe doesn’t want anyone to feel like they don’t have a place they belong. Bos’s little smile!
Donna’s drunk driving karaoke session nearly gave me a heart attack. That shit was so tense.
Gordon picking Donna up from the drunk tank was an excellent throw back to the first time we met Gordon when she was picking him up from the drunk tank.
I’m so glad Gordon could be there for Donna (Did anyone else notice he drove himself! No driver!), but I wish Donna could really hear and accept what he was saying. The way she didn’t take his offered hand... Donna is so disappointed with and hard on herself and I just want to hug her and shake her simultaneously.
And Bishé was just stellar in her last scene opposite Cam. You can see that as much as Cam wishes things were probably different between her and Donna, she has, in many ways, let it go and moved past it. She has Joe and Bos and Gordon and even Hayley/Joanie in her life in a meaningful/open way. (“[Joe] already knows,” took the wind out of Donna in such a profound way.) Cam is more ruled by Pilgrim’s failure now than Mutiny’s and she’s making great strides to move past that as well. She’s literally willing to give away her code because it wasn’t that important to her. Helping Bos was. Donna can have the code; she doesn’t care. Donna, on the other hand, is still smarting from 7 years ago and 3-4 years ago. Her needing Cam’s code just drives home for Donna what she has always feared - that she’s nothing special without Cam. It’s another moment that’s just completely heartbreaking. Donna doesn’t have anyone in her life she’s being truly open with. She’s not a person Bos went to for help, she feels slighted by and like she’s failing Diane, she doesn’t have Cam, Hayley is bonding heavily with her father and his girlfriend and Joe and is happier at Comet than at home. Joanie is a reminder of the person she feels like she was always too afraid to be (or used to be and can’t get back to). And Gordon is there for her, but he’s moving on with his life (has Comet, BFF Joe, Hayley, Katie, even Cam) and she feels so alone. I really can’t wait for the inevitable upswing, but watching Bishé sink Donna to the very bottom has been a real thing of beauty. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this show should be winning all sorts of awards.
Second to last moment of the show is Gordon finding out his daughter is smitten with a girl and I thought it was handled so well. Gordon has been excelling as a dad this year, so my fingers are crossed that he’ll keep it up when it comes to handling this situation with Hayley. The good thing is, she definitely has a strong ally and support system in Joe if her parents screw up.
Cameron is finally back online and it’s music to her ears and mine. Girl is grumpy and idle and as Gordon said, “gets into trouble” without her tech. Welcome home, baby.
On a different note, I’m actually incredibly psyched to see the Donna/Joe showdown teased in the preview for next week. Donna has always had such animosity for Joe that, in my mind, has felt disproportionate to what he’s actually done to her. He’s never outwardly tried to hurt her in anyway. And Gordon and Cam, the people who were most hurt by his actions, not only forgave him, but love him, yet Donna generally holds steady in her opinion that Joe is a villain. Donna on the other hand, knew Joe had nothing to do with WestNet and still concocted and executed the plan with Cameron to completely destroy his reputation/career. It’s such an fascinating dynamic especially because they’ve never shared much screen time together.
In the S3 finale, Joe said when he saw the Symphonic debut, he knew not only Gordon, but also Donna, were “geniuses ahead of their time”. He thought they were both brilliant and yet when it came time to reverse engineer a PC, he went to Gordon (not Donna and not both of them). I’ve always wondered if she resented that on some level. Joe is notorious for having this ability to spot someone’s potential and he saw it in Gordon and he saw it in Cam, but he never actively courted Donna. Why is that?? I’ve always found it puzzling. Was his dismissal of her help to recover the BIOS in S1 really because he thought her skills were out of date or was he just pushing her buttons to get her to step up? Or was he just being ruled by his “family is evil at work and in general” headspace at the time?
Arguably, Joe and Donna’s largest interaction was in S1E6 “Landfall”. Even after Donna had Joe’s number and figured out that he had engineered Cam “losing the BIOS”, they had such an open, honest rapport while waiting out the huge storm. She saw him play with her kids and go to great lengths to comfort and entertain them. They were laughing and seemed to be genuinely enjoying each other’s company on the couch. Joe even told her about his mother taking him up to the roof. I find the way their relationship devolved and the animosity that grew/ solidified to be so interesting.
EDIT: I also wanted to say, I find it fascinating that despite Donna’s general condemnation of Joe and his behavior, it is his former managerial style and business acumen that she seeks to emulate more than any other. Donna recognized early on that Joe’s behavior was toxic to his life (particularly his personal life), but still sought to model her own behavior after his because she wanted his perceived success/recognition. As expected, it was detrimental to her personal relationships. In the mean time, Joe has moved away from this toxic modus operandi and is much happier, but has become weary of Donna’s ruthlessness. It’s a weird role reversal that I find really compelling.
EDIT: Donna is an amazing business woman, no doubt, but I really miss her engineering side and hope it comes back into play. I feel like she fled that field because she felt inadequate and saw an alternate venue to shine, but Donna’s true strength is she basically possesses all the other character’s skills at once: She has the business savvy, the engineering genius, understands coding, and gets emotionally invested, but can pivot and refocus if need be when something’s not working. Her only real downfall is her constant need to prove herself and seek external validation. Without it, she wouldn’t make almost any of the mistakes that she has. In reality, she could be the strongest player because she understands all sides of the board. She just desperately needs to get out of her own way.
For those of you afraid that there is too much ground to cover before the show is over, I might remind you that this time last season Gordon and Cam were bonding over Mario Cart, Cam had just gotten married, and Joe and Ryan were working on the NSFNET deal behind the board’s back. The show moved a lot of mountains before that season was through. There are very few shows I have faith in, but I do have faith in this one. Truthfully, it might be the only one. I think it will get to where it needs to go before all is said and done. And be emotionally satisfying to boot.
That being said, I’d still take a season 5 in a heartbeat. Less than.
To those of you that made it to the end of this rambling, I’m genuinely shocked. Thanks for reading!

Anthem World Tour :: Enmore Theatre :: August 8 2014
(Originally posted to my LiveJournal on August 9 2014.)
HOLY FUCK.
Last night’s Hanson concert has to be the best show I’ve been to for any band. I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun at a concert, and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a Friday night.
The fun started before last night, though – it started Thursday afternoon. I went to my hotel straight from uni – walked all the way down Broadway from the UTS Tower to Pitt Street and met up with my friend Donna at the Hotel Ibis World Square. We went to the Hi-Fi together last tour and decided to split a hotel room for a couple of nights this tour. Soon as I got to my room I had a quick shower (because let’s face it, it’s a fair hike from UTS to Pitt Street and the hoodie I was wearing turns into a sauna if it’s warm enough) before doing my nails for the next evening. We had dinner from room service and because I was heading out to Channel 9 in the morning I turned in early – it was 9:30pm when we turned the lights out.
Friday morning I woke up at 5:00am, got dressed and headed out to Town Hall station via the 7-Eleven on Bathurst Street, and caught a train out to Artarmon. The Channel 9 studios are in Willoughby so I had to walk there – took me a good twenty minutes. There was already a small contingent of fans there when I rocked up – a few of my friends and fellow Street Teamers included. In the end there were around fifteen of us who turned up in the hopes of being allowed in the studio for either Today or Mornings. At first we were told we wouldn’t be allowed inside because it’s a closed set, but at around ten to 10am a couple of people from one of the shows’ social media teams came out and took a photo of all of us – twenty minutes later one of the security guys said we could go inside after all, provided we put our phones on silent and didn’t use the flash on our cameras. We waited for a good half hour after that before we were told that they’d done a risk assessment (whatever the fuck that is) and decided we weren’t allowed to come in after all. Cue fifteen very disappointed Hanson fans, and fuck Channel 9 for getting everyones’ hopes up. Still, it wasn’t a total waste of time – Hanson left Channel 9 at around 11am, and they stopped their van in the driveway so that Taylor could roll his window down and say hi to us all, and shake our hands. He asked if we were going to the Enmore show, which all of us were (stupid question really), after which they left to head back into Sydney. Those of us who had been waiting dispersed, and I began the mostly-uphill trek back into Artarmon so I could catch my train back into the city.
Back at my hotel, I put my phone on to charge so that I had three full batteries for that night and hopped in the shower (again, because of my hoodie turning into a sauna), changed into my concert outfit and did my nails again because the polish had started chipping. I’d originally planned to paint gold lightning bolts on my nails, but I couldn’t find a thin enough brush so I just put a clear top coat on to keep my nails from chipping again. Donna and I headed over to World Square after that and ducked into Coles to try and get some glowsticks for that night (the Street Team had something planned, which I’ll get to in a little bit) and also to grab something for lunch. No luck with the glowsticks, but I got a very nice sausage roll from Pie Face so that made me happy. Went back to the hotel and I hopped on Facebook for a little while before packing my handbag with everything I needed for that night. We left for the Enmore at around twenty to/quarter to 5pm, got there just after 5pm (as Donna had a M&G pass and needed to be there an hour and a half before doors), I checked in on Foursquare, and we met up with our friends Desiree and Angela. At about 5:30pm Donna left to go to the M&G, and I went out to dinner with Desiree and her friends Jen and Kat. Had Thai for dinner (a very hot massaman curry that I couldn’t finish), and headed back to the Enmore at about a quarter to seven. Got to meet my friend Zoe in the lineup as well – we’ve been friends for ages on Twitter and Facebook, but we’d never met before last night. Doors opened at seven, and the first thing I did as soon as I’d had my ticket scanned was buy my merchandise – I got an Anthem World Tour shirt with the Australian and New Zealand tour dates on the back, a hoodie, and a copy of the Anthem Live In New York DVD. Cost me $135 all up but it was worth it.
Hanson’s opener for the tour, Adam Martin, came onstage bang on eight o’clock. I was expecting him to be absolute shit, because he was on The Voice a few years ago and I have an automatic and intense disdain for anyone who goes on The Voice or The X-Factor. But he actually wasn’t that bad. Definitely won me over with his cover of Oasis’ Wonderwall – it’s one of my two favourite Oasis songs (the other one being Champagne Supernova), and I would have been very upset if he’d muffed it. People kept trickling into the auditorium during his set (which I probably would have done myself if I’d gone on my own) – there were a LOT of guys in the audience last night, more than I expected, and even though it was all-ages I only saw one kid. Adam finished his set at 8:30pm, and there was a half-hour intermission while the stagehands got the stage set up for Hanson’s set.
Hanson hit the stage nearly ten minutes late (running on Hanson Standard Time as per usual), but more than made up for it with what may well be the longest set list for any Hanson concert I’ve ever attended. 1. Fired Up 2. I’ve Got Soul 3. Where’s The Love 4. Scream And Be Free 5. Thinking Of You 6. You Can’t Stop Us
Acoustic set:
7. On And On 8. Weird 9. Too Much Heaven (Bee Gees cover) – a cappella 10. Hand In Hand (Isaac solo) 11. Get So Low (Zac solo) 12. A Song To Sing (Taylor solo)
13. Juliet 14. You Never Know 15. Tragic Symphony 16. Thinkin’ ‘Bout Somethin’ 17. Waiting For This 18. A Minute Without You 19. Penny And Me 20. Give A Little 21. MMMBop 22. Get The Girl Back 23. Something Going ‘Round
Encore:
24. This Time Around 25. In The City
I mentioned that the Australian Street Team had something planned for during the show that involved glowsticks – basically, during the NSW branch meetup in May we discussed the possibility of bringing glowsticks to the show and clapping them together during one of the songs. We decided to do it during Get The Girl Back, to be specific during the bridge. We all kept it under our hats for weeks and last night we pulled it off perfectly. It looked amazing from where I was sitting. During MMMBop Taylor knocked his mic stand over, which cracked me up – though to be honest it had nothing on his mic stand continually swinging down toward the stage during the 2005 Enmore show. Still pretty funny though.
My highlights? Finally getting to hear Weird and Thinking Of You live. Before last night I’d never heard either song performed live (and no, 5 of 5 doesn’t count). Waited 17 years and it was worth every second. Not only that, but Taylor made the same promise he did during the last Australian tour – and I quote, “If you come back, we’ll come back.”
I have another concert next Friday night, in Fremantle – not only is there a MOE before the show, but it’s one of the shows with a fan-voted setlist. So that’ll be exciting. I’m hoping to hear Cried and Yearbook at that show. *crosses fingers* Spending the entire weekend in Perth because I’ve never been and let’s face it, there’s no point going home after two days when I have an entire city to explore. ;)
My photos from this show can be viewed here. The camera I used was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH1.

HOW WOULD YOU FEEL
Volume: 1.
Number of parts: 14 / ?.
Pairings: Human!Nine x Rose.
Synopsis: "Joanne didn’t even know if Rose was good in drawing or else, but if doing some signs for Maxence was helping her, she wasn’t gonna say no to her help. She would be glad to have helped Rose, even if it was with a very small thing. The more people would support her, the more she would be protected from her bullies. And if she was good at drawing, supporting her work would also be a way to help her feeling better."
“Many are stubborn in pursuit of the path they have chosen, few in pursuit of the goal.” - Friedrich Nietzsche.
CHAPTER 14: Headache
Joanne observed Rose for a moment, thinking about all the things she had told her earlier. As a mother, she knew that if Maxence knew for the bad treatments Rose seemed to be suffering from, he would stand up to anyone and protect Rose from the bullies. That’s just how he was. That’s what he had done for Tenny years ago. Joanne could tell for sure that he had already started making Rose’s life better. The girl was so pale that she probably hadn’t seen the sun in ages. That was surely the first time she was coming out of the institute in years. It was surprising that she was handling it so well. Joanne didn’t know that Rose had already had a panic attack but had hidden it well so they wouldn’t have to go back to the institute sooner than needed. She was still nervous and was trying to hide that too. She was very surprised herself that she was doing so well too. But the Wolf was helping a lot. “Maxence sometimes likes to think that he’s infallible, but he knows he isn’t. And now, he can’t make you think he is. I guess his experience is what will make him a good therapist. He wanted to help people, the job has come to his mind almost immediately.” “No one is. I knew he wasn’t but he is a good therapist. I’m glad he wanted to help people. It’s a good job to have.” Joanne gave a cup of tea to Liv and took one for her. She remained silent for a few minutes. She had nothing more to say. Rose and Liv either. After what had happened earlier, a bit of calm was gladly taken. They were all sipping their teas slowly. Only the running water of the shower was audible. After a long moment, the shower stopped. “Maxence, be careful…” There was a loud bang. “To the door.” “Oi!” Joanne sighed. “That damn door again.” Maxence certainly had hit the shower door once again. It was something he was doing all the time. They heard him complain about the pain. Rose chuckled briefly and rubbed her forehead lightly. “His headache won’t be better after this.” “Good thing I’m a nurse then,” chuckled Liv. “I’ll take care of that small boo-boo.” “Too tall for the flat I assume. Liv’s good about nursing. She’ll take care of the boo-boo in no time.” “This was the shower door. He always forgets about it. Donna always has to tell him. She wasn’t quick enough this time.” “I can tell he always forgets about that door. Sounded pretty painful. You should put some signs up for him.” Joanne chuckled. It indeed sounded pretty painful. As usual. Maybe more this time because of the headache he was already suffering from. “Yeah. I already told Donna to do so. We’ve got some things to make it at the school we’re working in. It’s easier, but none of us had the time so far.” “I see. I’d make you all some signs for him if you’d like. But I don’t know if they’d ever get to you. Hopefully the signs work for him.” “That would be great, and highly appreciated from him, I guess. At least, he never broke his nose on that door. We are all afraid it might happen one day if he keeps hitting it.” “The safety box will be just perfect to hide them from Nash and the others.” Liv was glad she had that idea. She could give Rose some things for her to draw and keep her mind busy, and some other things that she could need without the other nurses taking it away from her. Liv could have asked a transfer when she realised that it wouldn’t be a great place to work but when she had met Rose, she knew she had to stay to help her the best she could, and that was what she was doing. Rose just had to ask for Liv to try and get what she wanted, if she could have it. “I’d be happy to do it for him. It’ll keep my mind busy from other things. I’ve been drawing a lot so it’ll be nice to have something else to draw. Hopefully he doesn’t break his nose. That would really hurt.” “Thank you. It will be highly appreciated.” Joanne didn’t even know if Rose was good in drawing or else, but if doing some signs for Maxence was helping her, she wasn’t gonna say no to her help. She would be glad to have helped Rose, even if it was with a very small thing. The more people would support her, the more she would be protected from her bullies. And if she was good at drawing, supporting her work would also be a way to help her feeling better. “You’re welcome, Joanne. Anything to help him out. Don’t want him hitting his head too hard. He needs that.” “If you see him with a big bandage on the face, it means the signs wouldn’t have been enough.” They all hoped it wouldn’t happen. He had to be careful. Very careful. He needed his head to help the people he was in charge of, of people he would be in charge of in the future. So it was better for him not to bang it too hard. “Bright and colourful. Perfect. Exactly what he needs. He’s a bit short-sighed without his glasses.” And he was always losing his glasses. Joanne was sure that he didn’t know where they were right now. He was gonna need them though. He couldn’t watch TV or read or go on his laptop without them. “Okay. I’ll remember that. I hope the signs will work. I’ll make them bright and colourful. I’ll make sure he can see them well with and without his glasses. I know he needs them. He had trouble finding them the first day we met. But he found them.” Joanne laughed. It was so usual of Maxence to lose his glasses when he needed them a lot to do everyday things. He had never needed them before but when he came back after he had disappeared for two years – two years Joanne had spent looking for him before he came back home with no memories and looking miserable as hell – they had found out that he didn’t see much without them. They had also found out that he had a major brain injury that they couldn’t heal, a brain injury that was most likely responsible for his amnesia, and they had all told them that he would probably never remember anything. “I bet they were on his head. That’s usually where he put them, and he always forgets that he put them there.” How many times had they laughed because they were looking at him cursing because he couldn’t find then when they were on his head. “Exactly I had a teacher who used to put them on their head all the time and would get really mad when he’d lose them, only to realize they were on his head the whole time.” “Seems like it’s typical to people wearing glasses. Looking for them all the time. It’s not like keys and phone that you can make ring to find them. He has two pairs but he likes that one better.” Joanne shrugged lightly. She remembered when he used to hit every furniture and door after he came back because he didn’t see very well. She had forced him to go to the doctor although he didn’t want to go outside the house. He was shocked, a deep shock no one could understand back then. And no one understood it better now. It was a mystery, and they never managed to solve it. “Those glasses look nice on him though. Wonder why he doesn’t like the other pair.” “When you’ve got two same things, there’s still one you love more than the other. I guess that works for glasses too.” Maxence used to have a good eyesight, but after he knocked himself out – and hurt himself too – by tripping over a coffee table in his mother’s living, they had realised that it wasn’t the case anymore. He had changed a lot after his come back, and sometimes Joanne didn’t recognise him. She still remembered her poor boy coming back home after two years. He was wearing rags. He was confused and cold and hungry and so shocked that it had taken him months to get better. Months in which he had remained desperately silent, in which he had kept being sick, but she had taken care of him all along until he felt better. She was glad to see him now, to know that he was doing so well after he had gone through hell. Sometimes people experienced things and it forever changed them. Like Rose and being in a mental hospital for five years. She was really scared to go out in public alone. She got nervous whenever people would get angry. She was sometimes scared of herself. The list went on. And her history with dating the opposite sex… Jimmy Stone was an example. Someone she tried not to talk about. He was a horrible man and she hoped that he was in jail. She had gone silent for a whole year because she had been scared and because her words didn’t matter. So, she knew how that was in a way. There was more noise in the bathroom, and finally, Maxence got out of the room, rubbing his face. He was wearing sweatpants and a shirt close to his body. He hadn’t taken the time to comb his hair so it was messy. He hadn’t shaved either. He still was a mess, but a better mess. “Damn door!” he cursed. “How many times did we tell you to be careful?” asked Donna from the bathroom. “I keep forgetting about it. Let’s put a warning.” Maxence walked to the kitchen. He wasn’t wearing any shoes of socks. He was bare feet. He came close to his mother and wrapped his arms around her. He hugged her and nuzzled her neck. “You know where the ice is now,” she said gently to him. “I don’t think that’s gonna work this time, that headache is terrible.” He kissed his mother’s head and let her go. He grabbed a cup of tea and drank a large part of it while it was still hot. He sat down on a chair and looked at Rose. “Easy, Maxence,” Joanne warned him. “Careful,” added Rose. Maxence ran a hand through his hair, not even trying to comb it. It was still a bit wet. He sipped some of the tea slower, smiling a bit as both Rose and Joanne told him to go slower. He was thirsty, and he just loved tea. That’s why he was drinking it so quick. Rose drummed her bandaged fingers briefly against the tea cup and smiled a bit at Maxence’s smile. It was nice to see him smile again. “Nice to see you out. How’s going this little walk outside?” Liv hit his arm and Maxence winced. He rubbed his arm, complaining about Liv hurting him. “I told you I was gonna write it all down. No work for you until you feel better.” “She’s right, love,” agreed Donna who joined them in the kitchen. She sat down on Maxence’s lap. He wrapped his arms around her to pull her closer. Rose looked at him and smiled a bit. He looked better. Even if his hair was a mess. “It’s nice to be out. It’s going okay. I’ve had more attacks that I’ve had to hide than what I’d like to admit while being out today,” she replied before turning to Liv. “That’s the only question I’ll answer that’s related to his work. No more will be answered ‘til he’s back.” Maxence needed to take a break and wait until he was fully healed. “Good. It’s perfectly normal. You’ve been in that damn hospital for years. Quite a huge change for you. You’ll be better with time. I’m glad Liv made you come out of this place for a few hours. Means I can add some things to your therapy.” “Yup. It indeed is a big change. I was nervous enough just to be out of the room. I’m glad she made me come out of that place too. It’s nice to have some fresh air.” Rose only wondered what he would add to her therapy. The thought made a brief spark of gold form in her eyes, but vanished as quick as it came. “Yeah, that’s understandable, but you’re doing quite well. Too bad the weather is so bad. We could have taken a walk.” “Thank you. I’m trying the best I can. Still very nerve racking though.” “No, you couldn’t have.” Donna was contradicting him. “Dinner and then, you go to bed. You need to rest.” “No,” Rose sighed. “No walks. You need to rest and I don’t think I’m ready for that quite yet. I’ll be clinging to Liv most likely. Like I did when we left the hospital.” Maxence complained about them telling what he had to do, things he didn’t want to do, causing Rose to smirk at his childish behaviour. He hated just staying in bed when he felt good. He wanted to do things, to move. Joanne smiled. He was just like a kid sometimes and she liked it. It was always funny to watch. “I didn’t hit my head so hard. It happens all the time. I’m not dead yet.” “Could happen if you’re not careful. You could damage your head permanently.” Maxence rolled his eyes to Liv’s words. He was perfectly fine. “You hit your head so hard against the door we could've heard it outside the apartment. So, Liv’s right. No work ‘til you’re healed. You need to rest. Cuddle with your girlfriend and enjoy the time off.” “I’m perfectly able to work.” “You’re not. You still have that headache, and we all heard you hit that door.” “Damn door,” he muttered. “Which means your headache is worse than earlier.” “I’ll be fine, thank you.” “They’re all right, love,” murmured Donna into his ear. “You’ve been through a lot lately. You need some rest now.” She cuddled into him. “I am good.” “But be careful. You could get permanent head damage. I know that. But I’m sure you won’t get that. You seem like a healthy guy.” “None of you is fun, but I get the point. Mum almost killed me when I told her I was driving a motorcycle.” “I still don’t like it.” “I know. Donna doesn’t either. But I like it.” “I like motorcycles too,” said Liv. “Me too,” Rose added. “I’ve never ridden one. But I like them.” “And you don’t want to ride one, believe me. Those things are terrifying.” “I’d like to one day though. They don’t look too terrifying.” “Ah, maybe Liv or I will take you for a ride one day. If you trust us enough to do so.” “You’re a good driver, love, I just don’t trust your death machine,” argued his mother. “I’d love that. I trust you guys enough to do that. I can’t wait until that day comes.” “That always has been like this,” chuckled Liv. “The pros and the cons. We can’t do much to convince either side. Everyone stays on their position. If we were all sharing the same opinion about things, the world would be boring.” “True.” “That’s very true. So it’s nice to have disagreements and agreements. So the world isn’t so boring.” “Anyway, I brought your motorcycle back along with your stuff,” Liv finally cut short. “We made sure it was safe and away from Nash.” “Great!” Maxence grinned at her. “Thank you very much for bringing those back to me. I would have had to do all my IDs again otherwise.” “You should do them all over again anyway. How many addresses have you had in your life?” Maxence scratched the back of his head. “Well, errr… Yes, I always say that I need to do it but I never have the time to.” “You’re pretty hard to find.” “But you did find me.” “Thankfully.” “I kept asking everyday if she had found you. Thankfully she found you.” “Right. Thanks for keeping my things safe. I’m glad to have them back. I’ll update my addresses so you won’t have to look so hard for me a second time.” “We won’t be looking for you a second time. This won’t happen again. I won’t let it. Neither will Liv. But you’re welcome for keeping your things safe. Nash thought I hid them when Liv actually did.” “Mummy and Donna and Liv will make sure I’ll never disappear ever again. Whatever Nash will try about me.” Just thinking about how had Nash electrocuted him made his headache worse. He groaned and a weak golden spark appeared into his eyes to disappear just as quickly as it appeared. He would keep quiet about what had been done to him. No need to worry his mother or girlfriend. He was okay. “I know they will. I’ll try to prevent it too. You’ll never disappear again. Not with any of us around. No matter what Nash tries. She won’t be able to stop me from doing my lame job.” Rose would do something against Nash if she had to. If she tried to take Maxence from her again, Rose would turn her into a vegetable for sure. She could wipe her memory in a snap. No one was taking away her last shot of getting out of the institute. She needed Maxence. He was gonna help her and improve her therapy. She wanted to stay in the same room she was in until the day she left that place. And she would stay there. No matter what. They wouldn’t put her back in that horrible, horrible room. “You don’t do a lame job. You’re doing your best in the conditions you have.” “And there were priorities,” added Liv. “Well, one step at a time. First, we’re working hard to make you get out of this place and then, we’ll see what we can do to improve your therapy. Safe and slow things first. Dangerous and fast things later.” Maxence didn’t know if they would be able to do anything against Nash if she decided to take him back to the yellow room and he wasn’t sure if his brain would survive that treatment a second time. It would probably leave him totally amnesiac, or it would burn his brain and make him a real vegetable. His headache became worse when the spark appeared once again as if someone was putting needles through his brain, but it disappeared quickly. For now, he had no memories to have been the real Bad Wolf and no one was gonna tell him. It was better if he remembered on his own. Then, they would talk to him and figure out how to free him from its influence. “One step at a time. Please. Work on getting me out first and then we can find things to do to improve different things. Push me too far and I’ll panic. Safe and slow, then fast and dangerous.” “I’m not gonna push you too far or too fast. You already did a huge step today. Without my help.” Well, it wasn't exactly true since he had signed the paper but he wasn't aware of what he was doing. And right now, he would do the same because of that damn headache. He couldn’t even think properly. “Good. I know you won’t. You don’t seem like the kind of person who would do so. I had help from Liv to take that huge step.” “Relax, take it easy,” he joked. “That’s Mika,” replied Donna. “Who’s Mika?” asked Liv. “A singer. You’ve probably heard the song somewhere.” “If I’ve said Hakuna Matata, you would have guessed that I was a Lion King fan?” All the women laughed at his answer and he just smiled. Laughing wouldn’t help with his headache. “Yes. I love the Lion King. I haven’t watched it in a long time. Good movie. Love the song too.” “In a long time? We should watch it again. Maybe during a session. They wouldn’t come and watch what we’re doing right?” “Yup. I haven’t seen it in over five years. I’d love to watch it sometime. Maybe during a session if you want. If you’re allowed to.” Maxence grinned at Rose who grinned back at him and Liv rolled her eyes. “We definitely have to do that. I don’t care what they will say anyway. Lion King is full of lessons. Let’s throw a Hakuna Matata in that damn place.” Rose smiled. “Oh yay. I can’t wait for that session. I don’t care what they’ll say either. Maybe Liv can join us too.” “Maybe. Depends if I’m working or not. If Nash is around. Someone has to keep her busy while you’re doing your job.” “That would be nice. But I understand if you're not able to. Because I know you'll have to keep Nash distracted and all. It would be nice if you were working and were able to watch with us though without any worries of Nash.” Liv looked at Maxence. She was sure that Nash wasn’t done yet with him, and she was afraid of what she could do to him. Now that she had woken up the Bad Wolf that was sleeping into his mind, she could be up to anything. Even manipulating him. She seemed to know his Wolf pretty well too. Liv had to know why and how she managed to know so much about Maxence Spitz. And keeping Nash busy while Maxence was helping Rose was a nice way to help them both. Donna laughed. So did Rose. The girlfriend kissed Maxence’s head softly. She stroked his face. He leaned into her touch and closed his eyes. “It’s so like you. Helping people with a Disney.” “Disney does help people,” declared Rose. “So I don’t blame him for using it.” “Maxence uses Disney for everything. I don’t blame him though. He’s a big child inside. It could be a bad thing but he has that perfect balance between the childish attitude and the adult one. That’s how he’s got me in the end.” “I don’t blame him either. I love Disney. I’ve always wondered if they’ve made any more movies. I love people who have that perfect balance between the childish and adult attitude.” “They’ve made more movies. I need my every year Disney movie.” He looked thoughtful. “Five years, heh? So, 2011. Rapunzel was out in 2010. There was Winnie The Pooh in 2011. Wreck-It Ralph in 2012. Frozen in 2013.” He was counting on his fingers. “There was none in 2014, but there were Big Hero 6 and Inside Out in 2015. Zootopia came out earlier this year, and Moana will be out in a few days.” Liv whistled. “You indeed are a huge Disney fan.” Maxence winced at the whistle and Joanne laughed softly. Maxence had always been a Disney fan. She wasn’t surprised that he knew all the movies that had been released in the last few years. She loved her childish Maxence, she loved how excited he could be when a new Disney movie was about to be released. “Oh Winnie the Pooh? I love Winnie the Pooh! I loved the book. Those all sound like wonderful movies. Hopefully I’ll get to watch them one day soon.” Rose smiled. She wasn’t surprised that he knew all the movies since he was such a Disney fan. She was happy about it because she loved Disney too. Rose liked her childish therapist and how big of a Disney fan he was. She only wondered how excited he got when he knew that a new one was coming out in a few days. “I think I have them all.” “Of course you have them all. Complete collection.” Maxence smiled. Point made. He could decide to take his computer and a few DVDs one day. If they were feeling rough and just needed a session to relax, it would be perfect. “Planning on seeing the new Disney with my lovely girlfriend. If she doesn’t mind.” “I never mind seeing movies with you. Even if they’re Disneys.” He gave her a full bright smile. Those were words he loved hearing. He was irresistible after all. She couldn’t resist him. “I’m sure your girlfriend won’t mind seeing a Disney movie with you.” “No one minds watching a Disney with you, love. As long as you’re not singing.” Maxence looked offended. It wasn’t his fault if he loved the Disney songs. “It took him a while before he stopped with the Frozen song,” laughed Joanne. “Everyone’s hating that freaking song now.” “Not because of me. Everyone loves the movie, and the song even more. It’s one of the best Disney after all. And you love me singing.” “Not all the time, no.” “I love singing the songs,” said Rose. “I’d love watching Disney movies with him too if we’d met each other sooner so we could’ve been friends outside of the hospital.” There was definitely common points between Rose Tyler and Maxence Spitz. If they had met before, and in other circumstances, they would have been good friends. Instead, they were sharing a professional relationship. Much to Donna’s relief. She didn’t want anyone to steal her Max from her. She loved him so much that it would destroy her if they had to break up. Rose wanted a relationship like that. But she doubted that she would ever get in a relationship like that. No one would want someone like her who had been through what she had been through. She was damaged. Badly. Even if she didn’t show it. “We went to the cinema for our first date together,” he remembered. “Yeah, and you insisted on watching Inside Out.” “Which is a very good movie.” “True, but still.” “Come on, I’ve watched a lot of romantic movies with you too.” “After a lot of romantic dinners. I have to admit you’re a good boyfriend.” Maxence smiled and kissed her softy. He had never been into a serious relationship before Donna. He had never wanted to settle down and have a family either. But now that he had certificates and an almost stable job, he felt like he could have it. Donna moved in with him over a year ago now, and they were just as happy as the first day. Rose smiled. They seemed to really love each other and she was happy for them. She admired their relationship and hoped that she could find an amazing man like Maxence when she got out of the hospital. But she just didn’t know. She had had too many negative experiences with the opposite sex. “I love being different from people. I’m so unique. That’s what you like in me, don’t you?” he declared with a smile. “Yeah, I do,” answered Donna, playing with his hair lightly. “You indeed are unique. Donna is very lucky to have you. I’m lucky to have a therapist like you.” “I’m glad to hear that he’s a very unique therapist, and that he’s doing quite a good job so far.” Donna played with his hair, lightly rubbing his head to help with his pain. She loved the soft smile on his face. All his defences were down right now. She was seeing him the way he really was. It was surprising to see him without his walls around him while Rose and Liv were there. It meant he really trusted them. “You’re the strangest therapist I’ve ever worked with,” commented Liv. “I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing.” “That I’m a daft man? A good thing. I do understand the patients better.” “And supporting their delirium.” “Who says it is delirium? Maybe the crazy people are the most normal people compared to the others. Right now, there’s a crazy guy using a wrecking ball in my head.” “Does he sing too?” “What?” “Nothing.” “Hey, he may be strange,” intervened Rose, “but he’s the only therapist who’s ever helped me. He’s a pretty good guy. It’s a good thing that he’s strange. Because he understands me.” “Shh,” Maxence told Rose showing her to speak less loudly with his hand. “I appreciate your words for me, but you’re gonna kill me if you speak so loud.” “Sorry…” she said softer. She knew what it was like. Loud noises bothered him because of his headache. “I’m kinda used to having to speak so loud to get my word in. Habits I’ve gotta break.” She looked down at the ground. “No need to with me. I’ll always listen to what you have to say.” That was his job, but that was also his nature to listen to people and help them. Even when he wasn’t in the mood of. Like right now. “Anyway…” started Liv. “Maybe we will be able to do that special session later. When you’ll be out of this place. And I’m sure the doctor Spitz will sign an authorisation for a permanent exit very soon.” “It’s most likely what’s gonna happen,” he confirmed. “I’m already planning on letting you out for a few days for Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Your family will be happy to see you for the holidays and I won’t be too far if you need anything.” “You are Father Christmas,” joked Donna. Maxence smiled at her and kissed her. His arms were still wrapped around her waist. He nuzzled her neck gently, making her laugh. “Wait until you find out about my Christmas gift for you.” “Oh, is there a competition? I have to find the best of gifts for you?” “You can try, but mine will be better.” Donna was getting very curious about what he had in mind for their Christmas, and she wondered what she could possibly offer him to top his gift to her. She kissed him in return and nestled more into him. “That would be nice. Very nice. I’d enjoy that,” Rose admitted with a soft smile. “A few days for Christmas and New Year’s Eve? Boy!” she exclaimed, surprised and happy all at once. “This is like an early birthday present. I’ll get to be normal for a little bit and I’ll get to wear normal clothes for once. I know my family will be happy for sure. I’ll call you if I need anything.” Rose hadn’t done Christmas shopping in years. She hadn’t gotten to do a lot of things in years. But she wouldn’t think about that. That would just make her sad and then, she would be gloomy for the evening. And she didn’t want that. But she was happy now and she would get to see her family for Christmas. That was what mattered. “A few days with your family for the holidays will help you. I’m sure of that. It would be unfair of me to leave you into that hospital when you’re perfectly able to be out of it. I’ll have to talk to your mother and friends though. I have to put some conditions, and tell them what they can and can’t do.” He was already planning it all. But we’ll see that later,” he added when he saw Liv and Donna’s look. No work. He couldn’t work until he was feeling better. The message was clear. “I agree. It’ll really help me a lot. You can talk to my mother and my friends when you’re fully healed. No work. None at all. You can deal with that later.” Rose gave him the same look Liv and Donna were. No work. That message was clear. Clear as day. No one was gonna let him work. No matter how badly Rose wanted to know about his decision to let her out for the holidays. “I’ll work on it. Later. In a few days. But you’ll be out for Christmas, that’s sure.” “Okay. Sounds good. Thank you. I’ll appreciate it. I wanna be out of that hell hole for Christmas. But take care of it in a few days. Like you said.” Maxence gave in and finally stopped talking about work. He just wanted to eat now. He pretended to be sulking because they were all against him tonight. His childish side was coming back and it was motivated both by their behaviour and by his vulnerability due to his headache. Joanne laughed a bit at the talk they were having, but Maxence’s headache was worrying her. She could see that he was in pain even if he was hiding it pretty well. “I guess it was a sign that we were both assigned to you the same week,” assumed Liv. “And they’re not gonna get rid of us so easily now.” Maxence closed his eyes briefly and pinched the bridge of his nose. Nothing seemed to work on his headache, and it was driving him really mad. “So, for tonight, it is dinner and a lot of rest them. I hope there’s a good movie on TV or I’ll get bored really quickly.” “We’ll find something,” promised Donna. Maxence refused to tell Rose or Liv that he already had some permanent head troubles. He had forgotten two years of his life. He had absolutely no memory of what he could have done in those two years. Never a dream, a nightmare, a flash. Nothing. He drank the rest of his tea and closed his eyes again, placing his head on Donna’s shoulder. “What’s for dinner?” Joanne smiled and Donna ran a hand through his hair, lightly massaging his head to help with the pain. He moaned lightly. It definitely helped. “Definitely him. Always feeling the need to eat.” “I am hungry.” “You refused to eat for days, love. That’s why you’re so hungry.” Rose drank the rest of her tea in one drink and sighed softly. She traced the cup in her hands and smirked a little to herself for no particular reason. “He told me that when we first met. Had a snack in his bag cause he said he always got hungry throughout the day.” Her stomach growled quietly at the mention of food. Rose blushed and bit down on her lip as everyone seemed to look at her. Looks like she was hungry too. She was embarrassed but no one was judging her. Thankfully. Maxence kept his eyes closed and kissed Donna’s neck. He laughed a bit. “I didn’t have any when I came back on Saturday morning. I haven’t have the time to prepare it.” He finally remembered the events of the four days he had forgotten. “Always hungry. I’ve never seen someone who likes eating, who actually eats so much before,” remarked Donna. “I eat a lot, and I do sports so I’m perfectly healthy.” The sports were to help him with the anger he often kept inside down. He could also eat all he wanted and not put on too much weight. He laughed and stopped quickly because it wasn’t helping his headache. It was making it worse actually. He groaned. He wanted it to disappear already. It was the worst headache he ever had in his life. “I used to be healthy too. But that kinda went away as years went by.” “We’ll work on that. Nash can’t do much about you anymore. She’s afraid because we’re standing up to her for you.” “No, she can’t. Which I’m quite happy to hear. She’s getting scared because I have support now. Which I’m very appreciative of.” “I couldn’t let you live the way you were living when we first met. This wasn’t human.” It really made him angry to think about her condition when they had met, and once again, the spark briefly appeared in his eyes. Rose studied Maxence and noticed the brief golden spark in his eyes. She didn’t say a thing about it. “They thought I deserved it. I still have nightmares about that room. It’s horrible.” Rose shivered at the thought. It made her sad that they thought it was okay to keep her in that condition when it wasn’t okay at all. “You didn’t. No one does. And it’s never gonna happen again. I swear to God, I won’t let it happen ever again.” They wouldn't throw her back to that room, he would always make sure of it. Rose Tyler was gonna stay in the room 421 until she was out of the place. Whatever Nash would have had to say about it didn’t matter. “Will you stay over for dinner?” Joanne asked Liv. “I’m afraid we can’t. I have to bring Rose back to the hospital.” “Show me the paper I’ve signed,” ordered Maxence. “I maybe can do something about it. You can’t refuse a nice meal when it’s my mom cooking.” Rose covered her stomach with her hands. She frowned at Liv’s words. She didn’t wanna go back. Not yet. She liked being outside and away from that place. Hopefully Maxence could do something about the paper so she could stay a little longer and eat dinner with them. “I’m not the only one being hungry.” “I’m taking care of this,” Joanne told her son. “You’ll eat in less than an hour.” Maxence nodded. Liv grabbed the authorization in her bag and gave it to Maxence. He kissed Donna when she let him get up and grabbed his phone and Rose’s record. He went in the bedroom with all those things and closed the door behind him. He had seen that Rose didn’t want to go back to her small room into the hospital. If he could get an authorisation for a late come back, it would be great. But he would probably have to fight Nash first. Hopefully the fight with Nash wouldn’t be too bad. Hopefully he would win. Rose was sure he would win. He was determined. “If he makes it to where I can stay out longer, this will be the first home cooked meal I’ve had in 5 years;” Rose admitted quietly. Once in his bedroom, Maxence read all the papers and called the hospital. They tried to make him go round and round, to make him lose his time but he wasn’t in the mood of being mocked. Not now that he had all his memories back. He rubbed his temples, grabbed his glasses on the bedside table and read the authorisation again. There was no hour for going back. Just the hours when the hospital was closed to the public. Liv had a pass and keys to get in without any trouble, but it was better if he called and said that Rose and she would be a little late. He picked his laptop in the living, arguing with Nash about that decision. She had been surprised to hear about him again, and to hear that he did remember everything. Absolutely everything. Rose had a bit of a migraine, but it wasn’t bothering her too much. She got the kind of headaches Maxence had every day at least. They were indescribable when it came to the pain and nothing helped. It just had to go away on its own. “It’ll be kinda useless to give me my withdrawal pill. ‘Cause I won’t be sleeping tonight. Not with how the Wolf is acting. Lots to process. It’ll take it a bit to calm down,” Rose murmured to Liv. “I don’t have them on me. You will have to take it to the hospital though. I don’t want you to get sick, and it’ll help you to sleep after all those strong emotions.” Maxence was still fighting with Nash over the phone and she was making his headache worse. He sent a mail and finally got the authorisation he wanted. When Nash was done yelling at him, he hung up and walked to the bathroom, raising his thumb to tell Rose and Liv that it was okay with them staying a bit longer. Rose smiled. While Joanne was starting to cook, he locked himself into the bathroom, rinsed his face and looked for something to help him. He didn’t find anything and sat down on the toilet, rubbing his temples, hoping it would make the pain go away. “Doesn’t Mr. Spitz have the pills though? Because he had them in his pocket. That was when Nash tried to get rid of him.” Liv looked thoughtful. “He probably still has them, you’re right. I’ll ask him.” “I figured he might. But you can ask him to be sure.” Maxence was still locked in the bathroom, trying to get rid of that damn headache. It was driving him mad and nothing seemed to work on him. He walked to the sink and turned on the cold water. He closed his eyes and put his head under water. He had to make it go away. One way or another. Donna looked at the bathroom door. “What is he doing again?” she murmured for herself. Rose noticed he was still in the bathroom and was starting to get a little worried. She was wondering what was taking him so long. “Maybe he’s trying to find something for his headache? He did seem like he had a bad headache. I bet talking with Nash made it worse.” Maxence turned off the water and sat down on the ground, his back against the shower door, his soaked hair dripping on his shoulders. His headache wasn’t any better. He pressed his right hand against his head and closed his eyes really tight. There was that whistling now. He punched the ground, whimpering at the unbearable pain in his head. It had to stop. It had to stop before he banged his head to make it stop. “You should check on him, love,” Joanne told Donna. “Make sure he’s alright and isn’t doing anything to hurt himself.” “Yeah. I’ll do that.” Rose closed her eyes as the Wolf became more concerned for Maxence, and was pacing around behind the golden barrier. She pressed between her eyebrows with her thumb and lightly rubbed it in a circle to try and relieve the pain. She exhaled calmly as she sensed the Wolf relaxing, and opened her eyes again, the little golden spark in her eyes gone. Donna got up and unlocked the door with a pocket knife. She came into the bathroom and closed the door behind her. She found Maxence sat on the ground, his hair and shoulders soaked. He was punching the ground repeatedly hoping it would make the pain disappear. Donna grabbed a towel and sat down on the ground close to him. She wrapped her arms around him and held him against her. She dried his head off gently, lightly massaging to help with the pain. “We have to break the rule,” she murmured to him. He closed his eyes and leaned on her as she was slowly rocking him. “You have to take some aspirin for your head. You can’t stay like this.” His hand hurt too and it was almost pleasurable compared to the pain in his head. He didn’t want to take the aspirin because of the risks. But he was gonna pass out if the headache didn’t disappear quickly. Rose was watching Joanne cooking. It reminded her of how many times she had watched her own mother cooking. She suddenly felt nostalgic. She missed her mother, and she missed their small moments together. She wished she could live it again. “Need help?” she asked her, playing with her hands absentmindedly. Joanne looked back at Rose. She didn’t need any help. She was used to cook on her own but the young woman was so willing to help and do something that she couldn’t refuse once again. “Yeah, come here.” She showed her the worktop and told her what she could to help. Liv was watching, smiling a bit. It was good to see Rose do some ‘normal’ things. She looked back at the bathroom, wondering how Maxence was coping with his headache. Not so well. He kept his eyes tightly close and just focused on Donna rubbing his head. He wasn’t sure about breaking the rule. “I don’t want to break the rule. I don’t want to…” “You won’t. You’re not alone and confused anymore, Max. Your mom and I won’t let you go back into this. I promise.” She kissed his head. “But I don’t want you to be in such a pain anymore. I hate it when you’re suffering so badly.” Maxence remained silent a few seconds. He had felt another kind of pain earlier and hadn’t asked the question to his mother or Donna yet. But he didn’t know what the new word were. They had bandaged it. “You never told me.” “Told you what?” “About the new word. The one who carved itself earlier.” “I don't think…” “Donna.” “It’s a name.” “Is it the name of someone I know or do I have to find who it is?” “It’s the name of your patient. Rose Tyler.” Maxence opened his eyes and looked up at Donna even if it was painful to do so. Why in the world would he have Rose’s name on his chest? What could that possibly mean?

In the next chapter:
And Rose seemed pretty happy to help. Maxence looked up at Rose to watch her cook with his mother. Everything not to look at the tiny bubbles in the water. It reminded him of some alcohol he used to drink before. But it was just a med. A med he had started drugging himself with before he found stronger drugs.
“Drink it up, Max.”
“No, I don’t want to. That’s rule number one.”
“Rule number one can be broken when my boy is suffering so much,” argued Joanne. “Drink it.”
