Hey girl, how are you doing?? How’s your day?? I was wondering if you could do Zuko x waterbender reader? She’s also apart of the Gaang and one of the first ones to really accept him, and they end up dating. Could you do like right before her officially becoming fire lady and them being just nostalgic, happy, and cute about how far they’ve come and them like hyping(?) eachother up (idk if I worded that right 😭😭)
Thank you sooo muchhh<333 hope it’s not too much, remember to take it easy too!!
“Okay, okay!” You laugh, throwing a leg over your boyfriend as you admire him. “But what about that time you tried to warm up Appa and set him on fire!”
Zuko gasps loudly, head shooting up from his pillow as he smacks a hand over his mouth in mock shock, “That, for your information, was an accident!” He poked your thigh as you ran your toes up his leg and you giggled.
“Katara sure didn’t think so, I’m pretty sure she was ready to send you back to the fire nation.” He rolls his eyes, head thudding back and making the whole bed jump.
“It’s hardly the worst I’ve done.”
“Mmm..” You agree, “Like the time you stepped on Momo’s tail and woke up the whole camp because he wouldn’t stop screeching?”
You’re just being mean now,” Zuko says but his smile betrays him, “Almost like when you pushed me off a cliff to see if my firebending could make me fly.”
“You’re making me sound like a murderer! There was a lake underneath and I caught you!”
“Yeah, after you pushed me off a cliff.” You tug the blankets up the conceal your laughter at his dramatics.
“It was funny!” You shrug as you chortle and Zuko narrows his eyes, “You scream like a little girl.”
Obviously he’s done arguing over the incident because his fingers are suddenly attacking your sides and sending you into bunches of giggles as he tickles you. When you finally master fish-flopping away far enough his skillful hands can’t reach you, you kick his tummy (mainly gently) with both feet and he folds in the middle.
“You’re so cruel..” He wheezes out with added coughs and groans for effect but you know his six pack wasn’t harmed a bit.
“Aw,” You pout with big eyes, “Want me to kiss it better?”
As you lower yourself and lift his shirt, peppering his tummy with smooches, Zuko huffs a laugh, “And to think, I used to think you were the kindest person because you forgave me first.”
You give him a mischievous look, “Yeah, cause I wanted to make out with you.”
His cheeks turn red and you take pride that you can still fluster him after so long. “You’re ridiculous.”
“Actually, I’m Y/n, and you love me soooooo much.” You leave one last kiss on his belly with a loud exaggerated noise before crawling back up.
“Yeah, I guess,” He teases, capturing your mouth in a kiss of his own, “When you aren’t pushing me off cliffs.”
“It was one time!!” He just laughs at you.

Katara felt exilhirated, her hands catching the cool night air as it whipped past. Bright flashes of colorful light popped on either side of her, accompanied by the huge crackle-boom of what she had learned were called fireworks.
At first, she'd been hesitant to the idea of explosions during a festival, but over time, she'd become more used to the Fire Nation's idea of fun. She had even found it beautiful. Aang laughed, leading Appa to race through the colored smoke while Sokka and Suki screamed in delight, and Katara screamed, too, holding up her arms and feeling free.
Until she looked over at Zuko, whose face seemed to be turning a shade halfway between ghost-white and bogwater green.
She tried to edge closer to him in the wide saddle, but it was impossible to move with how fast Appa was flying. Zuko's eyes met her gaze, and she asked "are you alright?" Her words were swallowed by the wind, and Zuko hadn't heard her, his eyes far away. There was another reverberating boom as an explosion of color went off on her other side.
"You want to know what fireworks are like for me?" Toph said to Sokka as Appa landed, a mischievous grin plastered on her face. She had not been enjoying the festivities any more than Zuko had.
Katara winced as Sokka closed his eyes at Toph's bidding, then watched her brother yelp as Toph screamed "BOOM!" into his ear.
Sokka wasn't the only one to jump. Zuko was still clinging to the side of Appa's saddle, even after they had stopped.
"Hey," Katara said, holding out her hand to him. "You alright?" she asked again, now that she could hear herself talk.
Zuko stood up without taking the offered hand, and climbed out of the saddle only a little shakily.
"I'm fine," he said, and walked off.
She found him later sitting on the edge of a fountain ringed by lantern light.
"I used to love fireworks when I was a kid," he said as she approached, his gaze on the bright reflections in the water. "Now it's just...I...I can't see as well, when Appa goes so fast, and it's hard to hear anything."
Katara remembered how noisy it had been when they were in the air. She remembered her first Fire Nation festival, back before the war had ended, and how afraid she had been of the fire. Now, fear was part of the thrill. Experiencing something like that in a way that was safe and fun, knowing it couldn't really hurt you. It was the kind of fun that Zuko must have grown up with. He must have always known that the fire couldn't really hurt him. Until it had.
"It took me a long time to be able to bend again, after," he said, looking up at her, finally, and Katara didn't have to ask him what he meant.
"Maybe someday I'll be okay with fireworks again," he said.
"It's okay," she said. "Even if it's never the same as it was."
It would never be the same, of course. Sometimes, a part of her wondered when she had become so desensitized. It had to be the opposite for Zuko, now. She saw the way he looked sometimes, when people made references to his past, the way he cringed when he spoke about it, how angry he grew on behalf of the Earth Kingdom citizens he had once considered beneath him. It was funny how time changed the way you looked at things. She wondered if it changed the way Zuko looked at her, the way it had for her. Sometimes it seemed to her that they were always just missing each other. Maybe they would never be able to see each other face the face, but for that one moment long ago, under Ba Sing Se. There would always be a part of her that remembered the feeling of being seen, of being known and having been known, by an enemy who was no longer an enemy, but something else entirely.
Together, they sat on the edge of the fountain, just the two of them. They stayed beneath the lantern lights, while everyone celebrated around them, and remembered what it felt like, to burn.

Aang was a kid who was the sole survivor of a genocide. Why doesn't that factor in your opinion of him?
I've talked about this before, but his age and tragic backstory are irrelevant. ALL of the main characters are children with tragic backstories, and they are more empathetic, have more growth, and their tragic backstories...actually matter.
Listen, for all people whine about how often Katara talks about her mom (which isn't really that often), it's clear how her mother's death shaped her as a character. It's clear how witnessing her mother's death formed her worldview, and Kya sacrificing herself for Katara made a mark (she never turns her back on people who need her? COME ON! That is obviously her trying to save people the way she couldn't save her mother). Even her wanting to learn how to fight and not heal (which is an insane battle advantage, btw) speaks to her trauma around not being able to defend her mom.
Even Sokka's trauma around the loss of his father and not being deemed old enough (big enough/ strong enough/ smart enough) to go with Hakoda and the other warriors come through in his recurring need to prove himself (coming up with the big battle plan for DoBS, breaking his father out of prison, learning swordplay, etc.). It's woven so neatly into the narrative. His trauma matters to his story.
Toph is the least developed of the Gaang, and her issues with her parents have more impact on character than the destruction of the Air Nomads have on Aang. Heck, Zuko's entire arc hinges on compound traumas.
Meanwhile, Aang's trauma....? What trauma? Yes, the loss of the Air Nomads is a tragedy, but we, the audience, only know it's a tragedy because we have real world knowledge telling us so. Personally, I was in 3rd or 4th grade when I began learning about the Trail of Tears, and in kindergarten when I began learning about slavery (I was born in Harlem. The kindergarten I went to taught us accordingly). When I saw ATLA, I had a frame of reference for the genocide of the Air Nomads. But it didn't really seem to bother Aang all that much. Oh, sure, it did come up when it was convenient to the plot, but it mostly seemed to be a way for Aang to expound on the superiority of Air Nomad philosophy and society to whoever he's talking to. Aside from that, and his first rush of feeling when he found out what happened to them, the loss of the Air Nomads doesn't seem to effect Aang all that much. If he doesn't care about his tragic loss, why should I?
Aang is a fictional character. I don't have to extend the same pathos to him that I would to a real life person. It is the writers' duty to make me feel for him, and they did not. The way he's framed is the issue. And here is where I really start retreading things I've said before, but I think it needs to be repeated (again and again and again). Aang is not framed as someone who has a lot of growing up and learning to do. I could give him a pass on his worst traits because he's a child and still growing, but the show doesn't frame him that way. The show wants me to see him as a precocious imp who's wise-beyond-his-years but still has a cheeky lil' mischievous streak. It's not trying to frame his lying to the quarreling tribes in The Great Divide as a bump in his journey to becoming an effective leader bridging different people together. It wants the audience to laugh at him getting one over on the foolish tribes who absolutely went back to fighting as soon as Appa was out of sight. The show isn't framing his desperation to get the village in Avatar Day to like him as a foolish pursuit he needs to get over if he wants to be strong in the face of adversity. It wants us, the audience, to feel bad for him because his charm isn't immediately bringing the people over to his side. It wants us to be indignant that the villagers don't see how important Aang is and wont' support him. The show isn't framing Aang's non-con kisses with Katara as bad because it hurt her. It isn't making a point to that Aang needs to care about her feelings. It wants the audience to feel bad for Aang and hope for Katara to come around because he's A Nice Guy™️©️®️. Aang is never shown to be a particularly good friend to any of the Gaang, let alone him being kind to strangers just because that's his heart. All of that I would allow to be just him being a dumb kid with growing to do if the show hadn't made it clear that Aang was perfect and didn't have to change, and in fact the world should change for him.
Aang's age and tragic backstory are irrelevant because the show made them irrelevant. All they left us with was a Gary Stu character who hides his selfishness under a thin veneer of cheerfulness. It's not good enough.

12. What are your steambaby headcanons?
Fire Lord Zuko and First Lady Katara's steambabies :
Princess Kya (14), the leader - a fire bender, an heir of the Fire Nation. She has golden eyes and light brown skin. She is just, brave, determine, and sometimes mischievous.
Headcanons :
Zuko teaches Kya fire bending in every martial-style bending. She isn't surprised her father teaches her water-styles more than other styles.
Zuko teaches Kya how to redirect lightning in honour to her beloved grand-uncle Iroh.
Azula (after her redemption arc) is very close to Kya because her niece has talents and badass like her.
Azula teaches Kya how to direct lightning and she learns it quickly. 'I doubt you're your father's daughter, it took him years to do that," is Azula's way to compliment her.
Just like her father, Kya secretly learns fire bender from the source. One day, Zuko and Katara accidentally sees Kya doing the dragon dance with his dragon, Druk, and amazed by that.
Prince Kazan (12), the protector - a non-bender, the youngest master dual swords. He has golden eyes and light brown skin. He is strong, smart, tactical, and eager to learn any weapons. Kazan (火山) means volcano in Japanese.
Headcanons :
Kazan has very similar face and gesture to young Zuko, except his skin is darker.
Kazan feels insecure when found out that his two sisters are benders and he's not. Katara is the one who notices his anxiety first and asks Zuko to cheer him up.
Zuko encourage him that he doesn't need to be a fire or water bender to be a great leader. Zuko also shows Kazan his dual swords skill, tells him that weapon skills are very useful at any time.
Zuko himself who teaches Kazan dual swords techniques until he mastered it at young age. This is in my head how Zuko teaches Kazan :
After Kazan mastering dual swords, he start learns other weapons, especially water tribe weapons from Hakoda and Sokka. Dual swords still his main weapon and he still practising it.
Kazan often reminds Zuko of his childhood, sometimes it brings back to his past trauma. Zuko feels afraid that he will act like his father to his children, especially his non-bender son. Katara always reminds Zuko that he is not the same as his father at all. He is always a good father to them.
Princess Izumi (8), the healer - a water bender, a young peacemaker. She has ocean eyes and pale skin. She is calm and quiet, has a kind heart and motherly.
Headcanons :
Izumi is very close to her mother, Katara. She's almost always by her side.
Izumi has motherly nature combination of her two grandmothers, Ursa and Kya. She's quiet but wise and very intelligent.
Izumi often being a peacemaker when her sister and brother quarrel, most often because Kya playing prank on Kazan.
Katara teaches Izumi how to fight and heal, but Izumi is more interested in healing. She has excellent talents in healing.
Izumi not only a healer, she also has talent as a herbalist like Ursa. She learn herbalist almost herself. She can make poison, but prefers to use her abilities to make cure.
Years later when she turn 18, she become a good fighter and best at healing. She secretly learn blood-bending and use it to heal (only Kya and Kazan know about it).
Nb :
I thought about swapping Kya and Izumi just like in canon-TLOK, but I stick with my first HC in result, because I always imagined badass firebender Kya and calm intelligent water-bender Izumi.
I only wrote down good things about steambabies, I still haven't thought about their weaknesses.
These are my original headcanons. Every Zutara shipper allowed to use it into fanarts, fanfics, or add another headcanons, but please let me know and credit me ❤️💙

hello hello! can i just say, i love your takes so much. it feels like you’ve read my mind on how katara would actually react in certain situations. currently myself, im rewriting the structure of the show in a way that makes more sense (aka, getting rid of kataang altogether and focusing on actual growth for each character including aang!) and im struggling a bit on aang actually!
we know how brykke basically stunted aang’s growth because of their weirdness. but what if aang never had a crush on katara? what if he sees katara as the big sister he always wanted instead, making their relationship more wholesome than weird? i think he’s such a centralized character, but when i develop the others beyond the show, aang feels like he’s left behind.
maybe that’s part of it too! he is a boy out of time, and now more of a concept than a person as far as anyone else outside of his immediate group knows. in this au where i intend to age everyone up, i’m just curious to see what kind of man aang would grow up into if his motivations for katara was never there. i see him as trying to hold onto his lost childhood and then having to come to terms with the fact he can’t. but i’d love to hear your thoughts. who is aang outside of that? his journey has the opportunity to be so fascinating, but brykke kind of said hey! let’s not get into that! let’s make him a creepy god boy who gets whatever he wants!
(also to note, this version of aang is meant to be with azula and while i love the meta ive seen about taang i do personally hc her as a lesbian but i do like them but yeah!)
also sorry if this is too rambly i’m just very excited!
hi! This is such a nice message, and please never apologize for rambling! My blog is a safe space for all ramblers. Your fic sounds like a very exciting project!
I definitely agree with you that he’d try to hold onto his childhood & have a hard time with his grief; coming to terms with the depth of his loss would be an exceptionally interesting arc. His people were victims of genocide: his culture and his loved ones were brutally murdered. Nobody can replace that community, not even his chosen family of the Gaang, and certainly not a romantic partner.
But Aang certainly is somebody outside of all that tragedy too. I think his cheerfulness and optimism, his playfulness, his resilience, his reluctance to assume responsibility, and his prodigiousness are all important facets of his personality.
Here's my piping hot take: Aang is James Potter with a more tragic backstory and less of a cruel streak. Think about it: mischievous, funny, adventurous, brave, enjoys attention, popular, devoted to friends, prodigious, entitled when it comes to love interests, morally inflexible, dedicated to Good, can be too arrogant to recognize his own faults. We hear that James became a pretty decent guy, so there's plenty of potential for growth for Aang, especially if he doesn't get his forever girl at age twelve.
Aang has a big heart and stringent morals, but is still a bit of a trickster. Not in a malicious way, but in a “I have a zest for life way” that gives him a little bit of an edge beyond just being a sunshine boy. You can see this even in ep 1, when he sacrifices himself so that the village would be left alone, only to haul ass out of the Fire Nation ship as soon as they’re safe. You can also see it in The Great Divide, where he straight up just fabricates history lmao. Lying is not an issue for him at all, which indicates it’s not really part of his moral code.
On the other hand, he obviously feels very strongly about taking life, which indicates a black and white approach towards morality that is not uncommon in kids. I could see an older, more mature Aang being led to question his own approach to morality, particularly by someone like Zuko, who probably finds violence a lot more palatable than lying. I think there are very interesting cultural differences that can be explored here, which doesn’t necessarily mean that Aang will change his opinions, only that he’ll have greater respect for how other cultures see right and wrong, and that he can keep Air Nomad culture alive without taking on the burden of being the manifestation of that culture. He has the innate impulse to try to see the best in people, which is at odds with his black and white morals sometimes. Related to that, he really struggles with morally grey characteristics in his friends. I think that if he had a fleshed out opportunity to properly disagree with his friends, he may not necessarily change his own mind, but he might grow to value his friends' freedom of choice over imposing his own values on them, since one of the cornerstones of Air Nomad philosophy is apparently about freedom. I think his pacifist voice is an important contribution to their ragtag group of overpowered pre-teens and teens and I love it when that aspect is explored in fics.
I've seen some really good depictions of Aang-not-obsessed-with-Katara in fanfiction (Southern Lights has my favourite one; in fact it's my fave characterization of basically everyone except for Mai). I see most of his flaws as things he can grow out of, but only if he encounters difficult situations and learns to grow. Have fun with your fic, and please do share in any relevant tags once you start posting!

Ch 5, The Necklace REVAMP
Book 4: Air, the Missing Element (a fanfic)
So if you've seen my past posts, I had shared my idea for my chapter that takes place in the Southern Water Tribe. The original idea was to have civil war sparked over oil land rights and greed and angry spirits. The subplot would have Hakoda finding love and Katara having to deal with it while also navigating an arranged marriage.
Now all of that is out the window because I'm resurrecting Kya so to speak.
Here's the new idea. There would still be a civil war, angry spirits, and an arranged marriage. I'll reuse the oil plot for another chapter that'd take place in the Earth Kingdom Empire.
Kya will have survived the Fire Nation raid but was swept away by her spirit wolf mother. The wolf spirit manipulates Kya's memories to forget about her life with the humans. This way Kya isn't constantly fighting to get back to her family.
There are issues between the Northern and Southern tribesmen. The northerners view the southerners as beneath them, being of poorer status in wealth and intellect, viewing them as uncivilized. The southerners view the northerners as pompous elitists that should go back to where they came from.
Chief Arnook proposes to Chief Hakoda they officially reunite the tribes with an arranged marriage between Hahn and Katara. Katara is against it but with some talking with Gran Gran, Katara gives Hahn a chance. Aang gets jealous and he tries to intervene on Hahn getting closer to Katara.
Aang drags Toph along in his mischievous trouble making. Toph can't see anything because she is wearing boots. Aang is her guide so Toph hooks her hand into Aang's bent elbow or Aang holds her hand.
Hakoda, Bato, and Zuko go out on a hunting trip to investigate why the hunting parties have been failing at their hunts. But then they get captured by spirits and whisked away to the spiritual center of the south, the Spirit Forest. This is where Hakoda sees Kya again.
Aang was offered to come on the hunting trip. However, Aang's primary focus is to disrupt the arranged marriage. Aang turns down the offer, using his no-kill airbender philosophy as an excuse not to go.
Aang would be successful at driving a wedge between Hahn and Katara. Aang would act like he was Katara's hero, saving her from an awful arranged marriage. Aang would feel owed Katara's affection for doing so but is let down when she doesn't fall into his arms.
Zuko talks to the wolf spirit and advocates for Kya's freedom. Zuko is doing a good deed because it is the right thing to do.
I'll have a tigerbear spirit that would be inspired by Nanuk/Nanook in Inuit mythology. I'll name the tigerbear spirit Nuktuk instead. This'll be the spirit that killed Kya's human parents for disrespecting the balance between man and nature. Nuktuk would then turn to baby Kya but then Atka the wolf spirit would intervene and save Kya. Atka and Nuktuk come to an understanding and part ways.
Nuktuk would be angry at the Northern Water Tribes people because they are disregarding the law of nature. The northerners are taking more than they need from nature, exploiting natural resources for greed.
Gotta work on the climax but in the end, Zuko would reunite Katara with her mother. I heard the line, "you can bring my mother back" and I saw it as a challenge to turn it into foreshadow. Just imagine the EMOTIONAL DAMAGE Katara would get at the sight of her mom. Devastated!
Zuko and Hakoda would agree on reparations. Chief Arnook returns to the NWT while Hahn stays in SWT. Hahn would've learned more about the south and find it more warm and loving than the north. Basically a Hallmark movie where the city girl falls in love with the simpler rural life and away from the pressures of the city.
I'd write more but I need to head to work.

WIP Zutara Challenge: Divine intervention
Man oh man, do I love this prompt. As I have a few fics that I guess fall under this. Most of them are posted in Ao3 is people are curious. I will be posting them at the end so no worries. But honestly anything with the spirits - at least how I consider it - divine intervention - and I have too many ideas for it
Such as one fic idea of the spirits allowing Katara to go back in time with all the memories but cannot physically touch people that she was close to as it could make them remember the horrible future - for angst.
A transformation fic that I have been sitting one - well two - where both Katara and Zuko get turned into animals and find out that the other loves them through the barrier of the lack of human ego getting in the way. (Katara being turned into a fox-snow leopard is also on the docket with Blue Spirit, which I will share in a bit). And a few other ideas like OC's coming in and helping out with the time line or changing it to make it make sense - if you know, you know.
And I also have some links for on going projects with spirit intervention and if people are curious about what I will be doing and going with it, please read and leave a comment!
First on the docket is my all time fav and an intro to an OC that I adore and is definitely one that helps with the story more times than I can count: Fortune Teller Rewrite
Next is one I have to work on, but it does have some spiritual intervention with transformation: Right Time Wrong Tea
Another one is my Forget Me Never fic with implications of spirit intervention.
And Lastly, my new project that will have lots of Divine intervention and spirit shenanigans is Ghost of a Waterbender (of which a new chapter will be posted soon)
As for the WIP challenge, here is a snippet of WIP where Katara unknowingly makes a deal with a spirit intervening for her (P.S. mention of alcohol):
Damasu took another sip of the sake that got brought as he seemed to think for a moment. “Well, it seems to me you already have an idea about what you want. But are conflicted because it does not match what others think or who they think you should be with.”
“Well, yes!” Katara snapped. “I know I should choose but I always had to choose for everything when we were traveling! I always had to care for people and make sure they were cared for. Final decisions on what we ate and did. And yet, never was it my choice completely. And even if I choose, I know people will get hurt and it will be my fault. And just once, I want something easy given to me.”
“Hmm,” Damasu smirked. “Sounds like a way to go, to have things given to you. Much like an animal that gets pulled around and does what it’s told. Is that what you want?”
“What?! No! No way, I will never be jerked around like that. I am not some prize that can be flaunted and told to obey on command.”
“And yet you feel like you are now?”
Katara realized what she said and bit her lip as she looked away from the strange man.
But Damasu only gave a mischievous grin. “From what I can see, you have a wild heart, and that is good. At least for you. You want to have your freedom to fight your own battles and prove yourself but at the same time, would like to know someone will be there for you. Protect you and love you for the powerful and beautiful woman you are, right?”
Katara did not face Damasu again, but she could not help but nod to his question.
Damasu smirked as he took another sip of his drink and poured some more for Katara. “Well, then I think I can help with that. A little wager if you will.”
Katara scoffed. “Oh, and what would this wager be?”
“I bet that the man that will fulfill your wish will be able to see you for who you are, even if you are… shall we say, not looking your best.”
“What? Would I look like I just woke up and have massive bed hair?” Katara asked with slurred words. All the drinks of the night were starting to get to her.
“Something like that,” Damasu said softly, then continued. “The catch is, you must stay that way until either of them figures out it is you. And only then will you be able to find the one that loves you with an act of true love. Either by words or actions. In this new look that is.”
Katara squinted at Damasu as she felt suspicious of him again. “What is in it for you, if this is a proper wager?”
Damasu smirked. “Even while becoming intoxicated, you are still sharp. I love that. And the only thing I want… is a good show.” He said with that continuous mischievous look in her eyes.
Katara chuckled from his answer as she was finding it hard to believe. “So let me get this straight, I will look a certain way. Unrecognizable to the world, and will stay that way until the one who loves me the most figures out that it is me and I get my answer, and all you want is to just watch?”
“Yup,” he answered as he gave her drink and he poured some for himself.
“No strings attach?” Katara grilled him.
Damasu smiled as he reached for Katara’s necklace and tapped it. “In honor of the water and moon spirits that watch over us, I swear. That is all I am offering.”
Katara looked down at his hand then at him. Katara’s vision was getting a bit blurry but while it might be the drinks talking, it did sound nice to have that option. She then reached for the drink and raised it to Damasu. “You have a deal then.”
Damasu smirked as he raised his glass and clinked it to hers. “A deal then,” he quietly cheered. They both took the drink and then Katara sighed. “I should get home.”
“Fair, after all, it will be a busy day tomorrow,” Damasu said as he got up.
“Will I see you tomorrow then?” Katara’s words slurred more as she was getting tired.
Damasu did not answer as he put down something on the bar then tapped Katara’s forehead. “You will see me very soon,” he whispered to her and left.
Anyway, hope you enjoy!

Whoa she has fallen deep
They realize how deep Katara has fallen for Azula. Because they simp for each other a lot.
Suki.
Suki needs to vent with someone. She loves her job, truly but sometimes…So when she saw Katara sitting there she knew she could help her. Katara is a great listener.
Even though it was weird she wasn’t looking at her at all. “I feel the new girls didn’t have discipline.”
“Aha”
“Okay that sounds like she is answering in automatic and what she is looking at” As she followed Katara’s gaze she saw Azula and Ty lee talking. “Maybe it’s a coincidence”
Seeing Ty Lee there only reminded her why she was mad with the girls. “They only want to learn chi-blocking. And yes being able to chi-block is helpful but you have to train every day.”
“Absolutely”
“She’s definitely answering in automatic but let’s check just in case”
“Where are they going to learn to fight mongoose dragons with their bare hands?”
“Right” Suki was astonished, Katara was really that disconnected. “Or how to fly.”
“Yep” Suki didn’t even know what else said to her. “Whoa she has fallen deep”
“Absolutely” replied Katara without any question by Suki.
“I had enough,” Suki thought. “TY LEE, AZULA COME HERE.” as she yelled that Katara broke her trance.
“At your service boss” said Ty Lee as soon as she and Azula came close, while she made a military salute.
“What do you want?” Azula replied slightly annoyed.
“I want to have a conversation with Katara but she can’t. She only looks at you and answers in an auto pilot.”
As she heard Suki Katara blushed “Hey, that's not true. I-”
“Oh now she can say non affirmation sentences.” At least she wasn't mad with her girls anymore.
“Don’t blame her, I'm gorgeous.” declared Azula smirking.
“Kyoshi have mercy.”
Sokka.
Azula and Zuko were training for a while, well Azula was playing with Zuko because she already trained today and Zuko got along with it.
Sokka knows nothing about firebending, but he knows he needs her sister’s help. The same sister who only looks at those without even noticing him.
“Katara'' No reponse. “Maybe she didn’t hear me”
“Katara?” Nothing.
“Earth calling Katara” Nope.
Sokka looked at her closer. “Let’s taste the water’s”
“I think I’m going to kill a bunch of kids just for fun.” And still, no response. Sokka was starting to worry but then, as Zuko hit the floor loudly, he realized she was focused on what Azula was doing “Whoa she has fallen deep”
So he knew he had to bring the big guns.
“AUCH WHAT WAS THAT FOR??”
“My old buddy never fails,” said Sokka after kissing his boomerang. “Stop looking at her, clean your droll and help me to move these boxes.”
“I wasn’t looking-… I was trying-…I WAS DROOLING.” Katara said, completely blushed.
“Your girlfriend lies way better.”
Toph.
Toph sensed Azula as soon as she entered the room, but what she sensed the most was the backflip Katara’s heart did.
“Sugar Queen, I think you’re having a heart attack.”
“What? No. I’m cool, totally chill.”
“Why are you talking like your brother?” questioned Toph.
“I do not sound like Sokka”
On the opposite side of the room Sokka was chatting with Zuko and Azula.
“But I said to him “No bro, I’m cool, totally chill” and he believed it.” Call it perfect timing.
“I am blind not deaf.” As soon as she said that, Katara started to defend herself, as if Toph said anything to attack her. She was only worried.
“Well your “abilities” must be failing because I’m perfect.”
“What is wrong with her”
Toph didn’t sense Azula approaching.
“Of course you are perfect”
“Oh Hey- Hi- What’s up?” replied Katara blushing and like she had forgotten how to speak.
“Is she really that bad? She was fine 5 seconds before Azula…” As she realized this Toph started to smile mischievously.
“Are you plotting something against me?” Ask Azula joking.
“WHAT NO” Katara said quickly and loudly.
So Toph decided to play a little bit once she knew her friend wasn't going to die “Her sweetness here was doubting my “abilities”.”
Azula tilted her head while looking at Katara “And you said I am the weird one.”
“Anyways I was talking to Zuzu and Sokka and they are making me go to the theater today so you are coming with me.”
“It’s not optional, and we have to wear something nice.” added Azula quickly. After that she got close to Katara and kissed her cheek quickly. Toph senses how Katara’s heart gives a full gymnastic performance “Whoa she has fallen deep” thought Toph.
“I don’t get a kiss?” Toph asks Azula knowing fully well that won’t happen.
“You should be even asking for one without taking a bath first.”
“I girl have to try.”
After that Azula was out of the picture. Leaving a speechless Katara.
“Well at least I know why you are suffering a heart attack.”
“I am no-”
“Don’t even try.”
Zuko
Zuko was having a cup of tea with Azula and Katara in the gardens. Because it was a great day and Zuko needed advice.
“And I know I am more approachable than the other Fire Lords, but I like to walk without being stopped all of the time. Mai doesn’t want to walk with me anywhere.” he stopped his rambling and looked at her sister “Are you even listening to me?”
Azula was with her eyes closed enjoying the sun while Zuko spoke. She actually was paying attention but the sun felt great.
“Of course I am.” said Azula without opening her eyes or moving.
“So?”
“Don’t stop with anyone anymore. Challenge some of them to Agni Kai.”
Zuko looks annoyed at her not knowing if she really believes that or she simply wants to make fun of him.
So instead of picking a fight he decided to get a second opinion.
“Katara?”
Katara has been looking mesmerized at Azula enjoying the sun like she was the only thing that matters. But as Zuko asks her directly she knows she has to answer something.
“I am Katara.” Even after talking as if her brain didn’t work anymore at all she didn’t look away
Zuko stared at her blankly. “Whoa she has fallen deep”.
“Great, your pity party broke my girlfriend.” complained Azula while she stopped to enjoy the sun and look at Zuko.
But in that moment, before Zuko could reply, they heard a loud “NO” from Katara when she saw Azula move from her previous position.
Knowing that he wouldn’t get the help he needed and being a little bit angry at these two, Zuko woke up to leave.
“Geez, I get it. I ask Aang. I don’t know why I even ask you two. One is mean and one is drooling over the mean one.” He looked at them narrowing his eyes and left.
“Were you drooling?” said Azula smirking.
“I’m breaking up with you.” replied Katara, staring at her and pouting.
“Sure but first let’s keep enjoying the sun for a while”
Aang
When Aang asked Azula to teach him lightbending he knew it would be weird. But at the moment she saw Katara sitting near watching them, he confirmed it.
“You know when I asked you to teach me lightbending I didn’t visualize the audience.”
Azula was finishing her arm wraps, almost ready to train and without looking at him said “It’s just Katara. She asked me to be here. Maybe she didn’t trust us with lightning. The last time we gave her a lot of work.”
“Only Azula could describe like that killing me with lightning”
“She also was my waterbender teacher, now I have double pressure”
Azula was already done when he look at him “It’s just Katara”
“Yeah I know. But-”
“Is it because I’m dating her?” Ask Azula, raising an eyebrow.
“I mean yeah but more in- no- just- Agh.”
“So for you it is weird that your ex-girlfriend, who still is your friend and now my girlfriend, is watching us training together when I killed you and she brought you back to life?” said Azula looking at Katara. As a response Katara gave them a thumbs up clearly not hearing what they were talking.
“It isn’t for you?”
Azula looked at Aang for a second and shrugged
“I have to deal with hallucinations of both of my parents. This is a walk in the park compared to that.” Aang stared at her, surprised that she talked about that with him.
“Plus if you have lived in an Iceberg for a century you can deal with a bit of awkwardness. “ she added after that. Then she started to walk to the center of the training facility.
“I guess you’re right.”
“I usually am. Let’s start.”
Azula turned out to be a good teacher and after a while he could create a little lightning.
“LOOK SIFU AZULA IS A LITTLE SPARK.” It was little and weak he made it.
Azula looked at him with a little smile. Aang was happy and his happiness was contagious.
“If I was Ozai I would make you increase that until it wasn’t embarrassing to look at, even though it probably breaks you today. But I am not. So we shall continue tomorrow?”
Aang looked at her slightly worried, “I can’t fathom what that man did to her…Wait, has she asked him to continue tomorrow?”
“It would be my honor sifu Azula”
As soon as Aang was done with her bow Katara appeared as she was in a hurry. “Maybe she’s going to scold me”
“Hey Kata-” but when Aang looked at her he realized she never intended to talk to him. “Is she angry?”
The good thing is Azula looked just as confused as him. But before he can ask her what’s wrong she starts to speak looking at Aang.
“So are you done? You are done. Good. Nice flame Aang.”
“Did she just say nice flame? We don’t…what was she looking at?!” Aang was more confused at every moment.
Then Katara looked at Azula and the rambling started.
“Azula, you were great.. The best. Who would have thought you trying to help makes you look so h- makes you a great individual…makes you-”
Azula looked confused at first but then she was smirking.
“Whoa she has fallen deep” Aang thought, looking at Katara when she stopped “speaking” and only stared at Azula .
“Azula, let's go now.”
“Of course as a great individual it is my duty to help. See you tomorrow, Avatar.” Then they disappear from the Avatar line of sight.
“Well at least I know how to produce a little lightning.”
Ty lee
Ty Lee was walking around the palace going to see Suki. When she stopped and saw Azula was training. She was an ass sometimes but her fire was something beautiful. If it wasn’t against you obviously.
“Oh hey are you looking for Suki?” Katara was leaning against a pillar. “She probably was watching Azula,” concluded Ty Lee.
“Yes, well I know where she is, so I was going to” Ty Lee stopped herself when she saw a big blue flame surrounding Azula creating a circle.
“Even after all these years, watching her training is astonishing” said Ty Lee watching Azula, then she turned to Katara “It is crazy because I have seen her millions of times. For some time it was like a routine”.
Katara looked at her with a weird look. So Ty Lee thought “Shit I make it weird”
“Not that I want to watch her like that anymore. It is just a memory. I mean her bending is still beautif-” As Ty Lee kept talking and Katara’s face was even weirder. “Okay maybe I should just shut up. Is it awkward? Of course it is I mean we dated and we have so good memorie- Nope I’m not talking anymore ”
“Agni please help me”
“Oh no Ty Lee is fine, it’s not awkward, quite the opposite. You know Azula, I love to hear more stories about her from an external source plus you two are friends, well you are my friend too. I mean not that clos-”
“Well at least she also is rambling. Is that part of Azula’s type?”
As if she was invoked by Ty Lee’s thoughts, Azula appears next to her.
“So now I am a show? Maybe I should join the circus” she had a playful smile on her face.
“So I would get the chance to burn your safety net?” Honestly that was water under the bridge but teasing Azula is funny. Well, when she isn’t in a killer mood.
“I would never put one there at the first place, that’s for cowards”
As they started to bicker Katara only was staring at Azula with that expression. Ty Lee still hasn’t figured out what that gaze means until.
“She was looking at her as she was the best thing in the world, so that’s why she gave me that look she wasn’t jealous she was proud” So when Azula turned back to Katara, Ty Lee paid attention to Katara's gaze and only could think “Whoa she has fallen deep”.

I Am Blackened Bones (Part 9)
She observes the fire spirit from a distance as it roams about their small camp, cradling its injured arm. Now and then it will give a small yowl. Sometimes Katara thinks that it just wants attention. In fact, she is almost certain that it is just being dramatic; much of the wound has been perfectly sealed off with cooled magma. Katara’s heart tickles at a faint inkling that something else could be ailing the spirit. But then it stops its fussing and resumes its curiosity driven endeavors.
The spirit finds Sokka’s sleeping bag, tilts its head, and pinches it between two fingers of its good arm.
“Hey! What are you—!?” Sokka starts.
In an instant the fire leaps from its arm to Sokka’s sleeping bag.
“No, no! Put that down!”
The fire spirit drops it and leaps back with a screech. Its fire elongates and flares a brighter orange as Sokka frantically waves his flaming sleeping bag about. Katara rolls her eyes, the dolt is only making it worse. He shouts and throws it on the ground, his rapid stomping agitates the fire spirit into a series of hisses and shouts of its own.
“Sokka, stop that, you’re scaring it!” Zuko demands.
The fire is out anyhow.
“My sleeping bag!” Sokka grips his hairline. His face falls and he looks up at the spirit with wide teary eyes. A small plume of smoke rises from blue cloth. “Y-you ruined it.”
The spirit’s fire dims. Dulls into the gray-blue.
“It didn’t mean to, Sokka. It was just curious.”
“That spirit is pretty troublesome.” Zuko grumbles.
“You should probably get used to it and get over it.” Toph shrugs. “It seems pretty keen on sticking around.”
The spirit has been with them for a few days now, longer if its days of stalking in the shadows are to be counted.
“At least she's friendly.” Aang replies. “We could have a mischievous type of troublesome spirit that likes to pull hair and shove us.” He gives the spirit a smile. “I think that she likes us.”
“She?” Sokka asks.
Aang nods. “This one’s female. She told me.”
“She can talk?” Katara watches the spirit wander to the tent and lift one of her arms.
“Sort of. I can sense her spirit energy. She’s not actually in any pain.” He confirms Katara’s suspicions. “I think that she just wants us to take care of her.” He pauses. “Or maybe it’s her way of showing that she’s not a threat.
The spirit reaches for a tent.
“Then why is she threatening my tent!” Sokka holds his hands on either side of his head and tugs at his hairline. He grits his teeth and his eyes bug as he watches the spirit’s arm get closer to the flammable fabric of his tent. “Don’t touch that!” He snaps. And the spirit slinks back.
Zuko sighs. “Are we really going to let her stay with us? We’ve already got our work cut out for us.”
“We’re letting her stay, Zuko.” Katara resists the urge to sling an arm over the spirit’s shoulders. Those rippling flames do a perfectly good job of warding touch away.
.oOo.
The fire spirit tails behind Katara.
Katara seems to be the most welcoming of her company. Katara and the Avatar. But of course, the Avatar is kind to her. That is his job; to bridge human and spirit. The blind woman, Toph as she recalls, doesn’t seem to mind her either. She knows that she is a nuisance to Zuko and Sokka seems to resent her completely. All she has to do is look in his direction and he will leap to snatch up his belongings before she can touch them. All over a little accident.
Other than that, she supposes that things have been going well enough. She is starting to get a sense of her body; how to mend it, how to shift the flames that surround it, how to dim and brighten her eyes to change the way that she sees the world.
But she can never seem to get the flames to leave her completely and she cannot control the color in which they burn.
The fire spirit only thinks to be curious about why she has to learn these things after coming across a grove full of baby spirits. They aren’t exactly like her, they have mask-like faces and fuzzy hog-monkey bodies. But they are still spirits and they drift and glide with ease. They leap from tree to tree, turning invisible at will.
They are well aware of all of their abilities and some of them haven’t yet learned to feed themselves.
It occurs to her then that there are things that should be second nature to her that simply are not. And it makes the spirit twitchy and restless. What is wrong with her? She should have already known how to heal herself. She shouldn’t have to learn how to move her fire and adjust her vision.
She slinks closer to the Avatar. If anyone would know, it would be him.
Yes, he can tell her about herself.
About what kind of spirit she is.
She only has to figure out how to ask.
“Try asking the spirit.” Aang suggests to Zuko, whose question she hadn’t heard. The spirit perks up no less. Perhaps if she answers their question, they will answer hers!
“It can’t even talk.” Zuko replies.
“Not with words.” Katara says. “You just have to pay attention to the color of her fire.”
“What color means, ‘I know where your sister is’?” Zuko scoffs. “You know what, forget it! I’m going to go do some bending.”
“Zuko your fire hurts…”
“If it hurts her then she can go somewhere else, she doesn’t need to follow us around!” He continues grumbling as he storms off towards the nearest clearing. “Can’t even let off steam with some firebending!” But his stance says that he will do it anyhow.
The fire spirit wonders why he doesn’t care that he is hurting. She hasn’t done anything to him…has she? Are there things that she doesn’t remember? 20 to 55 inches. 4 tons. It is an echo from a distant place. A thing that she has forgotten but remembers. There must be things that she has forgotten but doesn’t remember.
She doesn’t have room to dwell upon it because her limbs and bones absorb the fire haloing her body and her torment begins afresh. As though it has never left her to begin with.
.oOo.
To her credit, the fire spirit lasts five katas before she finally topples. Her knobby, woodsy legs wobble and she collapses right onto her side. When she does fall, she writhes. And when she writhes she shrikes and Katara’s heart can’t take it.
Perhaps pain doesn’t display so gleamingly in its eyes as it would in that of a human’s. But it shows itself readily in the way that the spirit’s form crumples. She curls like a burnt leaf and she smokes like one too.
Her body gives off an odor like a campfire. But there is something else. Sap and maybe copper. The spirit is quivering. It has no eyelids to squeeze shut, but those firefly bulbs seem to retreat further into its skull. That, she thinks, is what it means to see pain in the spirit’s eyes. It isn’t the sparkle or a gleam that she had been searching for, but a dimming. An emptiness.
“Zuko, can you please do that elsewhere?”
With an abruptness that causes Katara to jerk, Zuko punches out one more fireball. “Fine!” And for a moment, Katara thinks that, that is the end of it. But Zuko picks up his pack and throws it over his shoulder. “I’ll look for Azula myself. Have fun with your new spirit friend!”
“Zuko!”
Sokka rests a hand on her shoulder. “Let him have his tantrum. If he wants to practice firebending and jerkbending, I say let him. He and Azula can make up and be terrible, mean people together.”
The fire spirit inches closer, burning that guilty grey-orange
“It’s not your fault.” Katara mutters. Her hand hovers over the spirit’s smoldering arm and her lips part. She wagers that she is onto something.
Zuko stomps through the foliage, making quite a ruckus. She watches the treeline until it swallows him whole. Her throat swells with the desire to call out to him, to tell him that they need to talk this out. But Sokka squeezes her shoulder and she swallows the comment.
Zuko can take care of himself. He has survived on his own for quite some time, she remembers. He has done it several times. Perhaps that is just the kind of person he is; the sort that needs time and space every now and again. And so Katara turns her attention back to the suffering spirit. The fire is beginning to peek back through the ridges of the spirit’s branchlike arms.
“Aang…” she frowns and furrows her brows. “I don’t think that firebending causes the spirit’s fire to burn out. I think…” She trails off. No, that can’t be right. And yet…
She looks back at the spirit’s arm. “I think that the fire retreats into her and that’s what makes it hurt.”
“Are you saying what I think you’re saying?”
“That I should try to use water-based healing on her?” Katara asks.
Aang nods.
Katara nods.
“The fire isn’t there to help her, Aang. I think that it’s there to hurt her.”

Cabbage Man's revenge
## Scene: The Cabbage Merchant's Revenge
**Setting:** The bustling marketplace of Republic City. A crowd gathers around a makeshift stage where the Cabbage Merchant, dressed in a new, surprisingly stylish suit, stands triumphantly. He adjusts his microphone, a mischievous glint in his eye.
**Cabbage Merchant:** (Clears throat) Fellow citizens of Republic City! I stand before you today, not as the humble vegetable peddler you once knew, but as a man who has finally achieved justice!
**Sokka:** (Whispering to Katara) Justice? He's going to tell everyone about that time we ran into his stall with Appa?
**Katara:** (Whispering back) Don't worry, Sokka. He's probably just going to rant about how we owe him for the cabbage. Again.
**Cabbage Merchant:** (Grinning) For years, I have endured the indignity of being trampled upon by a band of… well, let's just say, 'adventurous' individuals.
**Aang:** (Waving sheepishly) Hey, it was just an accident!
**Cabbage Merchant:** (Shaking his head) Accidents happen, young Avatar. But what happens when those accidents involve the destruction of thousands of perfectly good cabbages?
**Toph:** (Smirking) Look, we're sorry, okay? We paid you back for the cabbages, like, a million times over.
**Cabbage Merchant:** (Ignoring Toph) That's where my brilliant plan comes into play! I have devised a foolproof scheme to ensure that the Avatar gang will never again forget the power of the cabbage!
**Zuko:** (Raising an eyebrow) Okay, what's the big reveal here? You're not going to… start selling cabbages with a secret ingredient, are you?
**Cabbage Merchant:** (Laughing) Oh, no, no, my friend! I'm going to do something much more… *entertaining*.
**(He dramatically pulls a lever, and a giant, cabbage-shaped robot, complete with a cabbage-cutter arm, emerges from behind the stage. The crowd gasps.)**
**Cabbage Merchant:** Introducing… the Cabbage Colossus!
**(The Cabbage Colossus swings its arm, sending a flurry of cabbages flying into the crowd. People scream and dodge the vegetable barrage. The Avatar Gang looks on in disbelief.)**
**Aang:** (Staring at the Cabbage Colossus) Uh… I think we might have underestimated him.
**Katara:** (Shaking her head) This is going to be worse than the time we accidentally got stuck in a giant, sentient cabbage patch.
**Cabbage Merchant:** (Pointing at the Avatar Gang) Now, let's see you try to escape my vegetable wrath, you… cabbage-stomping hooligans!
**(The Cabbage Colossus charges towards the Avatar Gang, its cabbage-cutter arm swinging wildly. The scene ends with the Avatar Gang desperately trying to dodge the flying cabbages, while the Cabbage Merchant laughs maniacally. The crowd cheers, enjoying the chaos.)**

Hi. I see you're really keen on the idea of an Azula redemption arc and I was wondering if you were willing to help me.
You see, I'm writing my own Zutara au and I wanted to give Azulas a simple but well meaning redemption arc but I don't know where to start. She is a complex character so I don't wanna go "and now she is good". Because that's also the point, I don't want to turn her into a goody-goody two-shoes, picture perfect princess. I want to keep that snarky and sarcastic side of her, mixed in with a little bit of tsundere. I want to make her an aunt to my two Zutara babies so she'll keep her caring side but more on the down low.
Anyway... Do you think you can give me some ideas? I also don't know who I want to ship her with so Azulaang ideas are welcome but not a must (nothing against the ship, i just haven't decided between Taang or Azulaang)
Thank you!!
How about this?
Due to Azula and Aang being a descendant of Aang's past life Roku. The two become spiritually connected, linked, and bonded with each other. This bond came to be right after Aang let go of Katara and embrace his last chakra, which instantly caused Aang to lose any romantic feelings he had for Katara. They can use this bond to slowly create another, more emotional and intimate bond. We don't give Aang enough credit of being sassy, sarcastic and mischievous in his own right. I'd kill to see Aang and Azula throw sass and comebacks at each other, it'll be peak entertainment.
I picture Azula's redemption being like Dante's divine comedy trilogy but it's metaphorical and psychological. She'd go through 9 circles of the burning hells, 9 earthly terraces of purgatory and 9 spheres of the high heavens. That's a total of 27 episodes.
You want an example of what a redeemed Azula looks like? Look no further than Diablo 3 reaper of souls, the female wizard: A deadpan snarker? check. Has fire and lightning powers? check. Is a prodigy? check. Her characteristics, design and clothing based on East Asia? check. Insufferable genius but can back it up? check. A one woman army? check. Is voiced by Grey DeLisle herself? check check check.
I've read a few Azulaang AUs where Aang teaches Azula how open and master her chakras. Each has there own interpretation on what's blocking each of her chakras. Here's what I have in mind.
Azula's fear is abandonment and being seen as monster, as evidence with the beach and the mirror scene.
As for her guilt, it's possible she may have some guilt over how Zuko was treated given how quick she was to overturn his banishment, she just couldn't bring herself to admit it and apologize. I than imagine Azula going through the same stuff Zuko went through in Zuko alone. Azula sees the damage her war has wrought, befriends some earth commoners but later turn against her either by finding out who she is or when she does something maniacal and unhinged which. Azula takes their rejection WAY harder than Zuko and angrily lashes out and wounds an innocent, which increases her guilt further.
Shame. Her failure to fulfil Ozai's promise to be fire lord and her humiliating defeat by Katara's hands is pretty self explanatory.
Greif. Contrary to popular belief, I think Azula loved Lu Ten and the two had close relationship. Why else would she only have her sights on Ba sing se and is dead set on bring it down? What comes in the form of new love, Azula sees Zuko and starts bawling her eyes out.
The lies she was told all came from Ozai. I picture Ozai and Azula having a similar dynamic between Anaken and Palpatine. You oughta explore more of the relationship between Ozai and Azula.
It's obvious by now she fell prey to the illusion of separation, but she also seems to be chasing after the illusion of perfection.
Her earthly attachment? It's Ozai. Hands down.
I hope any of this helps.
Btw, I'm currently trying to write a book 4: air. But the second half of season 2 of legend of korra will be shown in Aang's saga. Particularly book 4: air. Ozai is the dark avatar and he’s the most powerful firebender, earthbender, waterbender, airbender and energybender in existence after slaying the last lion turtle and absorbing its soul during Sozin's comet. But instead of Ozai fusing with Vaatu, Ozai IS Vaatu, and he was directly but secretly behind the starting of the 100-year-war. It's Aang that goes through the destruction of the original avatar cycle and heralds a new spiritual/avatar era, but this time, Raava becomes the spirit of light/peace and darkness/chaos at the same time, aka, the spirit of balance, she also embodies and controls all sources of bending.

AU Bot Plots
Detention...
Zuko had detention.
He had never gotten detention before. And it was over such a stupid thing. How was he supposed to know that Zhao would hear him? Zuko had waited until his teacher's back was turned and he was walking away to mutter under his breath where Zhao could stick his constantly changing syllabus. Zhao could have let it go, but instead, he blew up at Zuko, berating him for his lack of respect and finally sentenced him to detention for the first time in his high school career. It was...annoying.
Still, nothing to be done about it. His uncle's slight disappointment that he'd have to find someone to cover Zuko's shift at the Jasmine Dragon that afternoon was worth the hilarity of seeing how many shades of red Zhao could turn over a mumbled, half-heard insult. He had enough homework to carry him through an hour of boredom. It looked like he was in for a quiet afternoon. The only other person in the detention room was some guy in a dark hoodie that Zuko didn't recognize. He was in the back corner, already sleeping heavily. He was snoring, so Zuko took a seat near the front, to be as far away from that noise as possible. No headphones allowed in detention.
Zuko pulled out his econ textbook, notebook, and pencils and set to work. Just as he had just gotten absorbed into his work, the door swung open and a girl stumbled in, out of breath and flushed from what seemed to have been a frantic run to the detention room. Zuko knew her immediately. Katara had made a big splash when she and her brother had arrived at the school at the beginning of the year. She was a consummate overachiever and immediately joined student government, the theater club, and the swim team within her first week. Then it came out that she and her brother Sokka were not twins as everyone had originally assumed, but she was actually a genius who had been moved up a grade. Zuko had been held back a year because of a medical absence, so they were now in the same grade. Although they didn't have the same classes, Zuko, like most of the school knew Katara by reputation. It wasn't her brain she was most known for, though. It was her quick temper and heightened sense of justice. It seemed that Katara had never found a cause except the ones worthy of fighting for. It tended to land her in trouble. Often.
"Imiq," grunted the detention monitor with a level of familiarity that would have caused Zuko to melt in humiliation.
"Kyoshi," Katara greeted her with a casual head nod. Kyoshi arched on delicately sculpted brow at her and motioned to the clock above the door.
"It wasn't my fault!" Katara said defensively.
"It never is." Kyoshi seemed more amused than angry, though. She waved Katara off to her seat. Zuko wondered if Katara would have to serve an extra day of detention. That was the typical consequence of being more than five minutes late. Then Zuko's thoughts came to a crashing halt when Katara turned towards him. He'd seen Katara at a distance before, and he heard people talking about her. He knew she was widely regarded as beautiful, but he'd never gotten the chance to see her up close. Beautiful was underselling her. She was stunning!
No one had ever told him about the sharp intelligence in her eyes, or the mischievous quirk in her pouting lips. Distance hadn't let Zuko see the confident swing in her walk, or her effortless grace when she tossed her long, dark curls over her shoulder. She caught his eye and she smiled, warm and friendly and inviting. Zuko knew he was in trouble. She ignored the mostly empty desks in the large room and sat next to him.
"Hi, I'm Katara," she said, favoring Zuko with a sardonic smile. "What're you in for?"
Zuko knew he was in serious trouble

Deep Six- Teen Titans x Aquagirl!Reader
Request: May I request an insert in the episode Deep Six where the titans meet Aqualad?
Masterlist
Summary: Robin makes you accompany this guy name Aqualad and Beast Boy. Will you be able to handle them or will their bickering tear you apart. Also you're a katara kinnie (i know ATLA didn't exist then but still) This episode is Season 1 Episode 8!
Pairings: Platonic!Aqualad x reader, Robin x reader if you squint
Word Count: 4314
A/N: this time i decided not to split up the episode and post it as one! I made them meet for the first time here, so the Aqua kids don't bond much yet, but if you want to see more, feel free to request! (click here for guidelines) Also yes I also ended this one with "anyone up for pizza" thats all i know how to do to end a fan ficbskghs
“Ahhhh, don’t you just love the ocean?” you admired the shallow sea, the blue water flowing by you. The others prepared for launch, reading off the status of the T-Sub.
“Main power online.”
“Oxygen tanks at maximum”
“Defensive system active”
Beast boy hums confidently. “And your new secret weapon is ready to rock.”
Cyborg rolls his eyes through the headset. “Only time you qualify as a secret weapon is after eating a tofu bean burrito.” You stifled a giggle as Beast Boy yells in protest.
“Uh, 'scuse me, bud. Can you breathe underwater? Uh-uh. Can you be any fish in the sea?”
You shrugged your shoulders and smirked. “Cyborg can’t but I can. And I can breathe underwater without being a fish so I guess I’m just as much of a secret weapon as you, BB.”
You found out that you could breathe underwater a few days after you and the others formed the Teen Titans. You were surfing for the first time since that day when you fell off your board. You had accidentally inhaled underwater, and to your relief, you found that you were able to breathe in the ocean water with no problem. You offered to swim outside the sub on your own, but the team didn’t want you to get hurt, so you were stuck in the small confines of your own pod of the T-sub.
Robin ignores you three’s bickering. “We have to find out what this Trident guy is planning,” he says. “If it takes forty barrels of toxic waste, I doubt it's environmentally friendly.”
The engines warm up, the vessel humming to life. “Titan Launch!” Robin exclaims and the T-sub shoots through a tunnel and into the Jump CIty Bay. You watch in awe at the ocean life around you. Now that you had a connection to the ocean, your perspective on ocean life had changed. You clutch your seashell necklace as you continue to take in the view of the ocean, ignoring Beast Boy showing off his teeth and Cyborg turning off his mic as a result. Robin’s voice snaps you back into reality.
“Sonar contact. Beast Boy! Aquagirl! Ready to go?”
You gave a quick smile. “On it.” You unbuckle your harness and the dome unlatched, allowing you to swim out. Beast Boy gave a mischievous smirk.
“Dude, I was born ready. Try not to be jealous.” He aimed the second comment at Raven, who looked at him indifferently. Beast Boy quickly swam out of his pod and transformed into a whale.
“He just put on three hundred thousand pounds. I am so jealous.” she notes sarcastically.
You and Beast Boy made silent eye contact before swimming towards the cargo ship, examining its destroyed remains. He turns into a shark to keep investigating, and you follow his lead. You couldn’t help but feel that you were being watched, as you swam around the ship. Suddenly, out of the corner of your eye, you see a green figure; not a bright green like Beast Boy’s but a sicker, murkier green. You point at the green man as he swam away, and you and Beast Boy immediately bolt after it, the T-sub following behind.
Your black scuba shoes propelled you forward, and you aimed blasts of water towards the figure, but it kept dodging your shots. The monster, whom you now assumed was Trident, fired his weapon at you and Beast Boy, and when you dodged, it hit the T-sub. You forced yourself to continue to chase after Trident, hoping that the vessel was also capable of dodging his shots.
You and Beast Boy were nearing close to catching Trident when a voice rang in your head. It wasn’t yours, nor Beast Boy’s; it was clear, belonging to someone no older than you were.
“Your friends are in danger.” you heard. You and Beast Boy both stopped in your tracks, looking at each other in shock. You realized that the T-sub was no longer following you.
“Our friends are in what? Whoa! How did you say that? Dude! How did I say that? Hey!” Beast Boy also says in your mind. You turn to see the T-sub being attacked, and shot off without waiting for Beast Boy.
“Dude, questions are for later! Let’s go!” You order, not even entirely sure how you were able to talk either. You approach the vessel, which was being destroyed by Trident, who you swore you were just chasing.
Suddenly, a figure knocked Trident down. Trident and the mystery person fought each other, moving so quickly that all you could see of the person was a blur of black and blue
You turn your attention to the T-sub, which was slowly sinking into a fissure on the seafloor. Water was filling up fast and a look of panic settled on your teammates faces (except Raven, who seemed to have accepted death). Your eyes glowed blue as you outstretched your arms towards the damaged vessel. Focusing on the water around the titans, you forced the leaks to cease and the descent into the fissure to stop. Your muscles burned as you kept your stance; holding the vessel in place underwater was similar to holding it up on your arms above ground. Beast Boy raced to help as you struggled to keep grip when suddenly, two whales came and carried the sub on their backs.
You let go of the ship and breathe a sigh of relief. Beast Boy sees you almost passing out and comes to your side, now in the form of a squid. Instead of comforting you, he complains about the whales' help.
"They got it? How come they got it?"
A familiar voice rang in your head again. "Because I asked for their help." The voice belonged to the guy who was fighting Trident before. He comes to your other side and supports your other arm, putting it around his neck.
"You talk to fish? Yeah right. And let go of her!"
"You guys need help, and I'm talking to you right?" He glared at Beast Boy, keeping his grip on you.
Beast Boy was about to reply when you held your hand up in front of his squid face. "Beast Boy, I'm a solid five seconds from collapsing. I'm fine with the help."
The guy in blue gave a small smile. "And it's called telepathy. Let's go."
The three of you swam into a cavern. As you entered, the T-sub was floating on the water's surface and although it was extremely damaged, it managed to keep your teammates safe. You nodded to Beast Boy and the other teen and they let you go as you approach the other titans.
Raven asked, "where are we?"
"My place," the mysterious teen answered. "I told the whales to bring you here."
Raven and Starfire both blushed and gave bashful thank yous. You stared at them. Are they… in love with the new guy???, you thought, confused.
Beats Boy seemed angrier than ever. "He saved you?" He yelled, turning back into his human form. "Hel-lo? I was there too, you know."
Cyborg raised an eyebrow. "Were you? Because if anything I remember Aquagirl keeping us from drowning. What, you stopped Trident from kebabbing us with that souped up shrimp fork?"
"Way to go!" Robin said sarcastically. Beast Boy stuttered a response, but the blue teen interrupted.
"Aquagirl, huh? Well, I'm Aqualad. Sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier, we Atlanteans like to keep a low profile."
You shake his hand, now taking in what Aqualad looked like. He was half a foot taller than you, with slicked back hair and black pupils. He wore a bodysuit with blue scales and black accents. He had nice features, but you couldn't figure out why the other girls were drooling over him, so you kept that thought to yourself.
"You're from Atlantis? That's so cool!" You say.
He nodded. "So is Trident." He opens up a hologram from a table in the cavern. "He's the worst criminal in Atlantis, with an ego to match."
He continues a sideshow filled with pictures of the sickly green monster. "Trident claims he's perfect in every way so he thinks he can do whatever he wants."
"Any ideas what he wants to do with all that toxic waste?" Robin asked.
"Whatever it is, it'll be bad for both our worlds. He's already gained some kind of new power. It's like he can be everywhere at once." Aqualad says.
"Noticed that," Raven says sarcastically.
"As long as we're after the same guy, maybe we can help each other." He looks at the six of you.
Your eyes sparkle. "Of co-" you begin, but Beast Boy pushed you out of the way.
"Whoa, hey, no, we're good. Got the whole Trident thing under control. 'Sides, I'm sure there's a school of minnows somewhere that need your--" He rejects Aqualad's offer, much to you and the other's dismay. Robin pulls him back, and the six of you group huddled.
"We're at the bottom of the ocean," Raven notes.
"Our sub is Swiss cheese." Cyborg adds.
"I almost died back there," You say.
"And we cannot breathe water," Starfire mentions.
Robin is the first to break away from the huddle. "We'll take any help you can give us." He says to Aqualad.
Aqualad nods and has some amphibian guy named Tramm fix the T-sub. He turns back to us. "While he's helping you, I'll track down Trident. " He turns to go into the ocean again, but Beast Boy intersects.
"You mean I'll track down Trident," He says, pushing him a little
Aqualad pushes him back a little harder. "That's ok, I can handle it."
"Thanks, but I think I should do this."
"Seriously, I can take care of it!"
The five of you watched as their quarrel turned into an all out brawl, and suddenly you couldn't take it anymore.
"GUYS," You yell, causing a wall of water to shoot up next to them to grab their attention. They both stared at you wide eyed. "Stop. The. Fighting." You say with a stern expression.
"Why don't you two both go track him down together?" Robin offers, but the two teens cross their arms and scoff.
"I usually work alone." Aqualad says.
"Yeah. Me too."
"You do not! You're part of a team!"
"And you hang out with Tramm the fish boy! What's your point?"
"Hey! Arguing isn't going anywhere. Listen, Aquagirl can go with you. That'll make sure you stay on task." Robin commands, and you perk up at the sound of your name. You quickly pulled him aside.
"What the hell man?? They obviously don't like each other, you should have seen how much they fought on the way here!." You argue, and Robin looks at you through his masked eyes.
"You're the only other person who can survive underwater, they're gonna need you. Besides, you're great at handling conflicts; you'll be fine." He says with a smile. You blush a little at his comment, and sighed.
"Alright Rob, you can count on me” You return to the rest of the group and the three of you jump into the ocean.
As you headed towards the bottom of the ocean, you decided to ask Aqualad a question that's been bothering you.
“Hey Aqualad,” you say telepathically. “Before you said that you were able to communicate with sea animals. How come you’re able to communicate with me?”
“I don’t know actually,” Aqualad admits, still swimming next to you. He points to your necklace. “I’m guessing it's because of your necklace.” He stops to examine it. Beast Boy groans and stops as well. It glowed a little in his hand as he read the ancient text off of it.
“The Shell of Poseidon,” He read out loud. “I recognize this from the library in Atlantis. Only Atlanteans can use its powers, so you must be Atlantean then, right?”
“Woah! I’m not Atlantean, I’ve never even been there,” you sputter, absolutely shocked at what the teen said.
“Well, you must have some blood in you,” he shrugged. “Hey, maybe we’re cousins or something.”
You grin. “Aquacousin? I like the sound of that!”
Beast Boy interrupts your moment. “Ok, haha, family is fun and all, but while you were floating around finding out parts of your identity or whatever, I’ve actually found something on my sonar so, try to keep up.” He swims off, leaving you two to follow him. You expected to see the sea monster, but instead came upon a group of dolphins.
“No offense B.B. but these don't look like Trident to me.” you smirk.
Aqualad swims up to the dolphins, focusing on his telepathy. The dolphins swim up together and Aqualad turns to you and Beast Boy.
“They told me where to find Trident. Try to keep up.” He mocks Beast Boy, then swims with the dolphins. You look at Beast Boy, who seemed pretty grumpy, and turn to follow Aqualad.
You tailed behind as the two boys raced each other, Beast Boy turning into various aquatic creatures to catch up with the equally competitive teen. Then you see it. In front of them, Trident swam into view. You and Aqualad stop on instinct, but Beast Boy keeps going.
"Beast Boy! Stop!" You both yell, as he barrels straight towards Trident.
"What's the matter?" He taunts. "Am I too fast for y-"
You winced as you watched him crash into the sea monster and fall to the floor.
"Heh… how's it going," Beast Boy says telepathy to the monster towering over him. Trident growled.
"Keep your thoughts to yourself, you inferior fool!" He pointed his well, trident at beast boy and fires; Beast Boy barely dodges it.
Aqualad tackles Trident and they fall off an underwater ridge.
"Oh no you! This time he's mine!" Beast Boy yells, following Aqualad to the ridge.
"Beast Boy wai-" you yell, but was cut off by something grazing the side of your head. You turn, and see Trident swing his weapon at you. You dodged his next swing, wondering how he was able to get to you right after being attacked by Aqualad. You send him flying across the ocean with your water powers, when you hear Beast Boy yelling. You turn to see Beast Boy in squid form latched onto Aqualad's face. You could see Trident swim away from the corner of your eye as you swam to pull Beast Boy off of Aqualad. Aqualad glares at Beast Boy, his face peppered with red dots from Beast Boy's accidental attack.
“I said, ‘incoming’” he defends himself. Aqualad ignores him and points to another figure swimming into a grotto.
“He’s getting away!” Aqualad swims away, Beast Boy following.
“Wait-” you say, confused. Didn't you just send Trident flying in the other direction? How did he move so quickly? You reluctantly followed your friends into the cavern. You joined them as they observed the two tunnels that split off into two different directions.
“What are we gonna do now?” you think out loud.
“Maybe the question is where were you guys?” Aqualad snaps, turning to the two of you. You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion while Beast Boy swims forward to be face to face with Aqualad.
“Where was I? Fighting Trident by myself!” He jabbed a squid tentacle into Aqualads shoulder.
“You barely laid a tentacle on him! At least I managed to break his weapon!”
“Dude, that's just wrong. I so broke that fork thing!”
“BOYS!” you yell. “I also fought Trident and I sent him in the opposite direction, and now he's here. There's something going on…” The two began to think, but then perked their heads up. They then point at opposite tunnels.
“There he goes!” they yell at the same time. You stare at the two of them in even deeper confusion. Beast boy swims up to you, making eye contact.
“I saw him! He's that way! I'm right, he's wrong! End of story!” He crosses his tentacles. Aqualad pushes Beast Boy aside so that you were now staring at his dark pupils.
"I'm telling you, he's this way!"
"GUYS, we can just split up," You say flatly, pinching the bridge of your nose in frustration. "Aqualad I'm sure you can handle yourself, so I'll go with Beast Boy."
"Aw sweet!- Heyyy…" Beast Boy says to your backhanded comment. Aqualad nods and swims off into the tunnel.
You and Beast Boy were alone in the tunnel when you sighed.
"B.B., why do you keep picking fights with Aqualad?" You asked, still looking ahead. Beast Boy turns to you, acting shocked.
"ME??? It's not my fault Mr. Pretty-Boy-Know-It-All keeps showing off!" He whines.
"Dude, he's just trying to help us. Maybe you should-" you were cut off by a loud booming voice.
"Worthless scum! You cannot beat perfection!" Trident bellowed from behind you. You and Beast Boy turned, already in a fighting position.
"How many of you fork things do you have?" He mumbled as you charged forward.
You dodged his energy bolts, Trident in return dodging your attempts to push him farther back. Beast Boy turns into a turtle, pulling his arms and legs inside. Trident threw his weapon and it bounced off of him, flying into you and sending the two of you hurtling through the water.
"I always win!" You hear him say as you regain your stance. Beast Boy turns into a giant crab, grabbing onto Trident's weapon.
"And I thought Aqualad had a big ego!" He yelled telepathically.
"BEAST BOY GET BACK!" You yell. He swiftly let go, and you shot a jet of water towards Trident, sending him flying into a cavern wall. The cavern shakes, and a mass of boulders come crashing down. All you could see was a crushed trident sticking out from under the rocks. You breathed a sigh of relief until you felt a searing pain in your leg. You look and see a burn mark; Trident probably hit you before you buried him in a pile of rocks. Beast Boy looks at you, a worried expression in his eyes (despite being in the form of an ocean animal).
“I’ll be fine,” you grimace. “Let's find a way out first.” You painstakingly swim until you find a cave similar to Aqualads. You drag yourself towards the land as Beast Boy turns back into his human form. Right after you pull yourself up, you see Aqualad jump out of the water. He sees the two of you, and runs to meet up with you. He and Beast Boy begin to talk at the same time.
“ I just saw Trident!... No, you didn't!... Yes, I did! Cut it out!”
“I don’t care what you say! I fought Trident!” Beast Boy yelled, a vein nearly jumping out of his forehead.
"That's impossible!" Aqualad counters, his fists clenched so tight you thought you saw blood.
They both seemed to be prepared to fight each other. You jumped in between them, holding both their heads back as they flail their arms, trying to get a hit at each other.
"You know," You begin, silencing the two boys. "When Robin asked me to join you guys, I didn't want to. You two are heroes that just met each other and you were already fighting! But he told me that I could handle it and he's right! I can handle the both of you; but it seems to me that you guys can't handle each other. So here's what's gonna happen: I'm gonna heal myself because oh right! I got BURNT and you two are gonna talk it out." You let go of the boys, and they watched as you limped over to the edge of the water, plopped yourself down, and started pulling the ocean water to your leg. You listened in a little as you concentrated the water on your leg. It only took a few seconds to heal your burn, it was only surface level and you had gotten better at using your healing powers. They were still talking as you noticed what was in front of you: hundreds of Trident clones and yellow Trident capsules-eggs attached to the ceiling.
"Uh guys…" you say, rejoining them, but they had seen it too.
"One Trident is bad…" Aqualad says.
"... but this is…" Beast Boy adds.
"... an entire …" You say.
"...ARMY!" One of the tridents finishes your thought.
They all charge, and the three of you brace or impact. You raise your arms and a wave of water takes out a small group of the monster clones. You dodge their attacks, shooting jets of water at their heads. You see Beast Boy get flung into a machine, and an egg hatching sequence begins on the screen. You regroup with the other boys in front of the machine.
"Oops," Beast Boy said sheepishly.
"Great," Aqualad groaned as the clones began to close in.
"We need a plan," You mumble.
A group of the clones began to speak.
"My brilliant plan is already a success"
"If one of me was perfect…"
"Why not make more?"
"You can never have too much of a good thing"
"Once my army conquers Atlantis…"
"I will declare war on the surface world! Everyone on the planet will bow down before me"
"And praise my perfection!"
Aqualad whispers to the both of you as the clones cheer. "Any bright ideas?"
Beast Boy whispered back. "Just one. Try to keep up." He turned to the clones. "So if you're all perfect, which one of you is the best?" He asked.
One of the tridents answered. "I am!... Huh?"
As soon as you understood what Beast Boy was doing, you grinned. Aqualad stepped up.
"Come on. You can't all be the best." He says.
"One of you must be better than the others," You add.
One of the tridents step forward. "I am the original!I am the best!"
"You are not the original"
"I am!" Multiple tridents yell at once.
"Nonsense you inferior fools! I am perfect! I am Trident! "
You watch in amusement as the clones turn on each other and the fight turns into a full on brawl. The fight eventually ends, and all the tridents laid on the ground, defeated. Aqualad turns to Beast Boy.
"Great idea," He says. You noticed that there were no hints of sarcasm in his voice. Whatever they said to each other earlier must have made them work better together, you figured.
"Kinda got it from you," Beast Boy says."Now we just have to stop those from hatching." He points to the yellow pod filled ceiling. Right as he said that, the screen on the machine behind you hit 0 on the timer and the word "begin" flashed on the screen.
"Too late!" The three of you yelled at the same time. New Trident clones were breaking through their membrane "eggs". Beast Boy instinctively turns into a hippopotamus and tramples the crowd, creating a path to the ocean. You and Aqualad sprint behind Beast Boy, dodging the clones' outstretched arms. You all dive into the water, the Tridents close behind.
"We can't let them escape! We need to find some way of sealing the exit!" Aqualad yells telepathically.
"Right now, I'm just worried about getting to the exit." Beast Boy replies. You didn't look back, but you could feel the clones closing in. As you got closer to the exit you saw a familiar looking silhouette.
"The T-sub!" You exclaimed as you swam out of the cave. The clones stop in their tracks in confusion.
"Huh?" You hear one of them say.
You moved out of the way as the sub sent beams towards the entrance of the cave. The Blast caused a pile of rubble to fall, blocking the exit. You smile at your team who's cheering (along with Aqualad’s friend Tramm) inside their pods. The three of you turn bad to observe the T-sub’s work.
“Good thing Trident likes himself so much, 'cause I'm thinking he won't see anybody else for a looong time.” Beast Boy says.
You find yourself on the surface again, on the shore of the Titan’s Tower. Raven and Starfire both continue to look at Aqualad with heart eyes as Robin steps forward.
“Consider yourself an honorary titan” he says with a smile, holding out a familiar black and yellow communicator for him to take. “We couldn't have done it without you. Thanks.”
“Right back at you. It's good to know there's people up here I can trust.” Aqualad looks at you and Beast boy. He says goodbye to Raven and Starfire, who blushingly say it back. He then turns to Beast Boy.
“What can I say, dude? You're the best.” Beast Boy says.
“Nah. You're the best.”
“Yeah, you're right. And if you ever want me to prove it, I'm always up for a race.”
“Just try and keep up.” Aqualad laughs, patting his head. He finally turned to you.
“Aquagirl, it's been really nice to meet you. Next time you’re near Atlantis, give me a call and I’ll show you around. There's so much to show you,” he stretched out his hand for a handshake, but you pulled him in for a hug. He was surprised at your gesture, but soon returned it. Raven and Starfire looked at you with pure envy as you pulled back with a smile.
“I’ll take your word for it, Aquacousin” you say, making a reference to your nickname for him earlier. He laughs, then waves goodbye. The six of you wave back as he swims back into the ocean. Robin gently put his hand on your shoulder.
“You did a great job today Aquagirl. I knew I could count on you.”
“You know you can always count on me, dude.” you say with a smile. “Now I’m kinda hungry. Anyone up for pizza?”

Crossover Headcanons | ATLA x TOH [Hunter x Fem!Bender!Reader] (bonus scenes)

Part One | Part Two
requested by @serenathewolf2
these scenes occur between the first part and the conclusion in part two so there isn’t necessarily a set order between each section.
note : as this was getting quite long, i had to leave out an additional two bonus scenes - so apologies to the requester for that but i don’t think i could have reasonably included everything
these bonus sections are focused on the characters in general so don’t include a direct focus on the relationship between hunter and the reader insert, but there will be hints towards it and some scenes that include it.
No matter how much they didn’t want to admit it, everyone plays favourites and the witches (as well as the one human and two demons) you had come to call friends were no different. This was especially evident when it came to their opinions of your home-world’s wildlife.
Amity had grown particularly fond of the turtle ducks after seeing them for the first time in Zuko’s palace, even seeing out their company after stressful days and preferring to study by the pond to escape the stuffy libraries of the Fire Nation
Luz, meanwhile, had taken a strong liking to Momo - endeared by his mischievous and loyal nature much in the same way that he bonded with her because of her likeness to Aang in her empathy and positivity
Ed and Em came to be quite fond of penguin seals if only because of how easy they were to use in pranks - all they needed was a bit of fish and a good aim and they were sorted (they’re also incredibly cute animals, which helps)
Willow loved polar bear dogs… well, more specifically, she came to quite like the puppies because of how loyal they were. She also appreciated how they had adapted to their environment and how vital they were to their ecosystem
Gus appreciated platypus bears because of how familiar they seemed to the fauna back in the Boiling Isles; unusual and hostile. Though they were also incredibly interesting to look at and study, which he appreciated
King generally liked any large animal you stumbled upon and made a habit of trying to recruit them into his army - especially various types of bears and… well… a very apathetic Appa
Hunter had grown quite fond of Bosco (the Earth King’s oddly normal looking bear) because of how affectionate and unassuming the fluffy creature was - you’d caught him playing with the well dressed predator on multiple occasions, but you didn’t bring it up again to spare his ego
Eda loved the Unagi, though you didn’t get too close, because of the sheer power it demonstrated and how interesting it looked to her (“feels like home already!” “Eda that is trying to kill you-”)
Lilith, meanwhile, came to appreciate the more simplistic wildlife like local birds and smaller mammals; anything that she could comfortably observe without the risk of getting attacked
And Hooty just liked anything because, I mean, it’s Hooty; what did you expect?
—
It didn’t take long for you all to catch on to the numerous similarities between Amity and Katara and how that impacted their blossoming friendship.
There was their fighting styles, with Amity’s natural stance and her manipulation of abominations carrying a similar form to Katara’s and traditional water bending techniques - an odd coincidence they conversed about in detail
Then there was a very noticeable similarity; their voices
At first it was incredibly difficult to tell the two apart unless you were looking at the person speaking - and they took full advantage of that whilst it lasted
They taught each other the nicknames and vocal cues they used with their respective friends to mess with them as much as possible
The people who got the brunt of this, of course, were the twins and most of the gaang - with the newly formed dynamic duo taking any chance they could to confuse them until they finally caught on and started being more critical (more able to determine which of the two was speaking at any given time)
And they got their revenge through the twins’ illusions… eventually
—
When you and your friends went to visit Kyoshi Island, you had expected it to just be a quiet and calm visit; something more akin to a friendly pit stop over anything else. However it quickly became anything but when Suki had explained that the warriors had been learning chi blocking from Ty Lee - something that quickly got the attention of your non-bending friends.
Gus and Luz were the first to speak up, asking what that was and how they could learn that skill; questions that your kindhearted old friend was more than willing to answer
The older witches of the group were more inclined towards skepticism, believing that there was no reason for them to learn the martial art
After all, how could a few punches take down a skilled magic user?
Though Ty Lee was more than willing to prove them wrong, challenging Edric with a pleasant smile on her face - giggling when he promised to “go easy” on her before promptly breaking through his illusions and immobilising him
Likewise, Suki was quick to chi block Amity - with her insistence and consent, of course, as both wanted to emphasise the usefulness of the art
Following that display, practically all of your group were lining up to learn from the young masters; sitting in on lessons and listening intently to their instructions
It was a… humbling experience for them, to say the least
—
Over the course of your travels, it had quickly become apparent that each of your friends had found a favourite location - with each subtly (of not so much) asking when you’d return to their preferred region.
The Air Temples had caught the interest of Lilith and Hunter for all of the history behind them as well as the beautiful architecture - and they spent each of your visits humbly learning the nomads’ history and reading their literature (with Hunter even training with Aang in the traditional training grounds, much to the latter’s excitement)
Kyoshi Island was a clear favourite of Eda and Luz, mainly because of the power and prowess of the Kyoshi Warriors - with both learning how to fight from them and earnestly listening as Suki recalled the history of her home (and the history of the warriors)
Omashu was the favourite location of Ed and Em particularly because of the ruler’s leniency and tendency towards mischief - something they could relate to - as well as the numerous opportunities to learn and train within the geometric city walls
Willow was fond of the Fire Nation’s outskirts as it provided numerous opportunities to test out her magic in native flora - as well as to study its properties with the help of an array of friendly locals who freely gave their own insights
Gus was especially fond of the Water Tribes because he enjoyed studying local practises as well as indulging in local delicacies - the south were especially eager to open up about their history and the north was proud to demonstrate their specialised bending techniques
Hooty and King, meanwhile, were content no matter where you went as long as the food tasted good and the people weren’t trying to actively kill you all
—
As for food, the group was also quite inclined to play favourites - and even less likely to do much as try to hide their preferences.
The spicy snack food of the Fire Nation was something that Luz and King adored because of the rich, almost addictive, flavours - especially fire flakes and gummies
Amity had found herself craving the egg tarts that Aang had prepared for the group when you first arrived - even trying to replicate the dish on numerous occasions and always falling just short of replicating the texture
Lilith and Eda, having an unusually similar taste, had both developed a clear preference for food made from turtle ducks - with Lilith preferring glazed turtle duck whereas Eda much preferred to eat the eggs in the various dishes they appeared in (with each citing the rich taste as the reason behind their fondness)
Gus had come to appreciate seal jerky because of how unusual the taste was to him - something that made it stick alongside the pleasantly tough and chewy texture that reminded him of his favourite foods from back home
Hunter had come to be quite fond of the fish based dishes and soups from Kyoshi Island because of the distinctly Earth Kingdom kick that they had despite the similarities held to numerous Water Tribe meals - most were pleasant in smell and taste with a very soft melt-in-the-mouth texture that added to the appeal for him
Ed and Em, meanwhile, had no particular preference when it came to the regional dishes you sampled on your travels - but they did eat more when your hosts served Earth Kingdom or Air Nomad dishes (though they never explained why)
—
When they first caught sight of Appa, the general response was some variation of “aww” or “what is that?” - with younger members being generally more inclined to fawn over the friendly bison.
King, Lilith and Hunter were more cautious around him, addressing him with reluctance and suspicion as they spoke amongst themselves (or more openly, in King’s case) about how peculiar he was - though Lilith generally spoke with much more tact than the other two
Luz, Gus, Willow and Eda were quick to start inspecting and practically cooing over him; offering him plenty of pets and compliments whilst Eda asked Aang about his species and general appearance
And then there were the twins, who were trying to get onto Appa and make him fly to no avail - though their disappointment was amusing to Aang, who looked on in childish amusement
Though, eventually, all of the group warmed up to him and came to appreciate the affectionate bison - even treating him like any other member of the growing group (aside from the lingering tendency of some to spoil him a bit more than his human counterparts)
—
Most of the group were incredibly family oriented in one way or another, so it would stand to reason that they’d be moved by the stories told by Katara and Zuko about their family members lost to the war - doing anything they could to help them settle and somehow compensate for the heavy losses.
When Katara opened up about her mother, it was over a blazing campfire and spoken so solemnly that it brought both her and her brother to tears - almost as though they were reliving the painful memory in front of your eyes
The group remained quiet as they spoke about their mother, Kya, but you could see Luz crying - and when they finally fell silent they were dragged into a warm embrace by Luz, Eda and Lilith
A hug that the rest of you joined shortly after: Amity with downcast eyes, the twins in tears and unusually silent, a quiet Hooty, crying King and a Willow and Gus on the outside that had a sad look in their eyes
All in all, it was a very sad but effective bonding moment for the group that was followed by a collective effort to help them out whenever possible and take the load off of the siblings’ shoulders when it came to domestic tasks around your moving camp
A similar collective shift happened when Zuko opened up about his mother, Ursa, and his childhood in the palace with his father and sister.
His words were solemn and his tone almost emotionless if it weren’t for the occasional crack in his voice whenever he tried to say her name
He didn’t even get to finish his story before Eda pulled him into a tight hug and told him to “let it out”, allowing him to cry into her shoulder as you all rallied around the young Firelord to support him during this moment of vulnerability - joined almost immediately by the rest of the gaang
And when he later found out that his mother was still alive and out there, there was no question about the fact that your witch and demon friends would be beside him on that journey - with Eda, Luz and King being especially adamant about joining him; assuring him that he would never be alone again, not with them or with your other friends who had decided to help keep things in check around the Fire Nation
—
Whilst you couldn’t expect your friends to completely understand the history of your old companions, you had at least hoped that they wouldn’t ask any stupid or charged questions like this - especially not to their faces. You wanted to slap them.
“So, uh, Zuko? Where did you get your scar from?”
Spirits, King, of all the questions he could have asked… that one?
You could have heard a pin drop with how quiet the room had gotten as soon as the question spilled from the young demon’s lips; with all previous chatter and activity fading away as the witches and benders alike looked between themselves with a distinct air of awkwardness, unsure of what to do
Eda, in particular, looked horrified and was trying to stutter out an apology only to fall short as she didn’t even know what she could say on behalf of her son
But, thankfully, Zuko broke the silence with a very calm and clearly often repeated response that quickly diffused the thick tension in the room
“My father gave it to me… I’d rather not discuss it further.”
“Oh, okay.”
Thank the spirits that was as far as it went.
—
Shortly after your return to your home world, there was a very distinct transitional period for your friends when you desperately tried to show them that things were different here - even with the help of team avatar, who found the situation equally amusing and endearing.
The main fear of theirs was water: rain, the sea, rivers and even water bending
They just didn’t seem to grasp the idea that it didn’t boil
So, with Aang and Katara’s help, you had them join you on a short hike before forcing it to rain - staying out even as they tried to take you with them to hide and even dancing in the rain; laughing and smiling and kindly explaining that you’re safe and that it doesn’t hurt
Hell, the only one who was quick to trust your judgement was Luz - but part of you knew that was because her own home had rain that wasn’t deadly to the touch
Though they still didn’t leave until you and your more human friends practically dragged them kicking and screaming out of the shelter they had constructed
But all the stress was worth it when you saw how widely they smiled when they accepted that you were being honest - even if you ended up getting soaked to the bone after a particularly mischievous Hunter tackled you to the ground and insisted with dancing with you clumsily in the downpour
Yeah, definitely worth it
Naturally, the next step from there was a trip to the beach on Ember Island - which took you a few days of travel and ended up with you getting trapped in a multi-hour water fight on the shoreline. But it was a definite improvement from their open fear of the sea back when you first arrived and had to visit Kyoshi Island (you could still hear Eda’s scream of terror when you casually went for a swim).
—
Aang had a number of near-death, or temporary-death, scenarios throughout your journey together. Some you witnessed and others that occurred after you left - but all of which the Boiling Isles residents seemed enthralled or horrified by as you all recalled them.
“You rode the Unagi?” - a horrified Lilith in time with a mystified King
“You can ride the Unagi!” - an excited Eda and a starry-eyed Luz that just had the best worst idea of their lives
“Please don’t ride the Unagi…” - a desperate Amity to her girlfriend and Eda, trying to maintain some type of order
“Don’t ride the Unagi, it will eat you.” - a stern but concerned Suki, arms folded over her chest as she gives a look to the two plotting newcomers to her Island home
“I mean, It didn’t kill me or anything.” - Aang, completely missing the point before getting a very stern look from Katara and Suki
Things didn’t get any better with the rest of his tales about riding things or generally getting himself in danger.
“She shot you?!” - a wide eyed Ed
“With lightning!” - clarified Toph, not at all helping
“And you… died?” - a disbelieving Hunter, looking at you with a raised eyebrow as you merely shrugged your shoulders and nodded
“Not for long; Katara saved my life!” - Aang, too excited to notice how the mood was a bit too dark for how chipper he was being about the whole thing
“You guys need therapy…” - Willow, beneath her breath as Gus hummed in agreement, the two looking between the gaang with an air of mixed disbelieve and horror at the experiences they lived through
—
One of the first things Katara and Aang insisted you all did when you arrived in the Southern Water Tribe was try out penguin sledding - something that you remembered held great significance to them. And, with a bit of persuasion (and slowly introducing them to the passive penguin seals to show them that they are, indeed, mostly harmless), most of the group were on board; with Lilith and Hooty being the only exceptions for safety reasons - Hunter only went once with you, refusing to do it any more than that and the main Owl House company was more than excited to take part.
—
After a few months of settling into your new lives, your friends were certain that nothing else could surprise them - only to be left heartbroken and shocked when Sokka disclosed the story of his first love, Yue.
It started when you were out stargazing and Sokka made an offhanded remark about how he “used to date the moon” - earning a few laughs before the witches picked up on the serious tone of his speech and Sokka elaborated
“The moon spirit, Yue, and I dated when she was human… she was perfect.”
He took great care when telling their story, placing immense emphasis on the bravery and kindness of his lost love; his eyes filling with tears as he recalled her last moments before he silenced himself with a deep breath and turned to smile at the group - finally tearing his eyes away from the moon (the moon that almost seemed to shine brighter than normal above them)
Naturally everyone was shocked and apologetic for their response - with Eda being the first to react, placing a hand on his shoulder and sharing a look of understanding with him before smiling up at the moon
The others soon followed, offering their condolences and praising Yue for her bravery before the topic slowly shifted away from something so upsetting for Sokka - much to his quiet relief
—
One of the first things that you all did when you arrived was show off your different abilities - bending vs magic in an ultimate showdown rife with friendly rivalries and teasing remarks.
Amity and Katara sparred, showing the numerous similarities between abomination magic and water bending
Ed, Em and Gus used illusion magic to attempt to take down the non-bender girls (Suki, Ty Lee and Mai) whilst eagerly explaining how they were casting their various visions - a fight filled with friendly banter
Willow sparred with Toph, with both exchanging banter whilst carefully planning out their attacks - two powerful fighters locked in a playful stalemate that left them out of breath and eager to improve
Hunter was pitted against Sokka and they quickly realised how similar they were in their fighting styles and strengths - engaging in strategic discussion after they conceded on a draw
Luz and Zuko were fighting, with her active movements and reliance on glyphs contrasting nicely with his strong posture and natural bending abilities; impulse versus control - a fight that left both out of breath and with a greater respect for the other’s learning journey
Meanwhile Eda, Lilith and Aang were on the sidelines discussing wild magic compared to his own unique bending styles and types - all polite as they spoke quietly (trying not to disturb King, who was sleeping in his mother’s arms)
It was enjoyable and helped everyone bond as a group and understand their differences, more able to better respect the history behind both magic and bending - a worthwhile experience, truly
—
It had been a particularly long day when Aang finally broke and asked about the witches’ staffs and their small companions.
“So… uh, what are these creatures? Are they like pets?”
“Our palismen?” Amity asked, gently scratching at Ghost’s cheek and smiling when they mewed softly. “Kind of.”
“They’re a responsibility, that’s for sure.” Eda muttered, annoyed at having lost yet another card game to Owlbert
“Palismen are much closer to, um, little helpers. They’ve been a part of our society for as long as we know of and go back to the times of wild witches.” Willow clarified finally, bringing her own palisman close to her cheek and grinning at it
The gaang looked between themselves before Sokka finally spoke up
“So… they’re like Momo?”
“Nah,” Luz interrupted, her mouth mostly full of food, “Momo isn’t made of wood.”
“Wood?!”
It took a long few hours to explain the nature of palismen to the group of humans, with most of their explanations feeling more roundabout and confusing than the offhanded comment that started it all. But by the end of it they seemed to have at least somewhat grasped the concept, which was enough for you to change the topic (and prevent another migraine from coming on - regardless of how amusing your boyfriend happened to find the conversation).
—
Without question, your fondest memory from the early days back in Omashu was when Luz had taken it upon herself to introduce your friends to the internet and, of course, the wild winding canon of the Azura books.
You had all been sat around eating snack foods in one of the ex-jail cells of the palace; chatting about everything and nothing before Luz suddenly gasped and remarked about how “you guys don’t have any kind of internet, do you?”
“No, Luz, we went over this back in the Isles.” You responded, saving face for your companions. “What are you planning?”
Her face twisted into a gleeful expression as she practically squeed out a response, her eyes glimmering in a way that made her girlfriend blush fondly
“I have so much to show you!”
She started off simply enough; explaining what the internet is and what different types of media are - memes, videos, messengers, penstagram, and so on
But then Amity mentioned Azura and it spiralled out of control from there as the two outlined the plots of each of the books to a crowd of very confused witches, humans and demons who felt too awkward to stop them - their excitement and passion for the series palpable enough that none of you really had the heart to
And when they finished with a “any questions?”, the only response they got was an almost scared and dismissive shaking of heads
At least it started off relevant, right?

Late Night Snack
Summary: Katara woke up hungry and Zuko got the idea to make cookies.
Disclaimer: I sadly do not own anything from ATLA, just the plot!
A/N: Just thought it would've been cute to write something short and sweet for this pairing lol. Happy reading!!
It was her stomach that had awaken Katara from her deep sleep in the middle of the night. She turned her body around to see that her husband Zuko was still asleep. She giggled quietly when she noticed his long black hair was ruffled all over the pillow that he was laying on. She watched him for a few seconds before slowly getting out of bed so she wouldn’t disturb him after a long day at the tea shop that he owns with his uncle.
Katara closed the door of their bedroom and made her way downstairs to the kitchen, holding her stomach when it growled at her again. She nibbled her lower lip when she turned on the light in the kitchen and placed her hands onto her hips.
She glanced around the neatly cleaned kitchen and decided to walk to the pantry to see if there was something in that might settle her stomach. She frowned as she glanced the foods that was stacked on the shelves of the pantry, sighing when she didn’t find anything that she wanted to eat.
“There’s got to be something good to eat,” Katara said with a frustrated huff, tapping her lip with her finger before walked over to the cabinets in hope to find something else.
“Want to make some cookies?”
Katara jumped at the sudden voice of her husband. She turned around to find Zuko yawning while rubbing his tired golden eyes with a lopsided grin on his face. Her blue eyes widen at the mention of cookies. Her husband knows that she loves cookies. “What kind of cookies?” she asked in a questionable tone, lifting a brow.
Zuko laughed at his wife and walked over to the pantry to grab the ingredients for cookies. Katara could feel her mouth water when she realized that they were going to make chocolate chip cookies after he had pulled out two bags of chocolate chips. She grinned from ear to ear when she walked over to grab a medium size bowl and a large cookie sheet.
She used a spoon to mix the dry ingredients together, giving Zuko a soft smile as she watched him mix the egg and vanilla together in another bowl. “We haven’t made this in a long while,” she told him with a small smile.
Zuko chuckled at her. “I believe it was when you were having a rough day at the hospital was the last time we had these.”
Katara groaned at the memory of a painful day that had happened over a year ago. She remembered that she a tough day working at Ba Sing Se University Hospital working as a ER nurse. She had just lost an elderly patient that she had grown fond of, and she had done everything she could to bring her back to life. Doctor Pakku had to drag her away from the hospital completely and had sent her home and gave her the rest of the day off.
Zuko had found her hours later in the dark, crying in their bed after coming home from working with his Uncle Iroh at the Jasmine Dragon. He knew what to do to make her feel better and decided to make some chocolate chip cookies which was her favorite and she had ate every single cookie on that plate.
“That was why I love you. You know me so well,” Katara told him softly, taking a chocolate chip into her mouth, moaning at the goodness of the dark chocolate.
Zuko rolled his eyes and shook his head at her as he placed the last of the rolled-up cookie dough ontp the baking sheet. He used a free hand that wasn’t carrying it to open the pre-heated oven and placed the sheet neatly on the rack. He cocked his head to the side as he watched the cookies being baked. He smirked at the reflection of the oven when he felt Katara wrapping her arms around his waist.
“You know,” she said, whispering hotly in his ear with a giggle as she pressed her body against his. “We got about fifteen minutes until the cookies are done.”
Zuko turned his head to look at his wife and lifted a brow at the mischievous glint that he could see from her azure eyes like she was planning something. “Oh yea? Got something planned?”
Katara placed light kisses along her husband’s neck, hoping that he would take the hint. She heard him chuckle before leaning in to kiss her briefly on the lips. “I can think of a couple of things,” she said suggestively, wiggling her eyebrows.
She squeaked when Zuko picked her up easily and she used her legs to wrap around his waist, sighing against her lips as they pulled away from each other. “Well then, let’s make this quick.”
Zuko rolled his golden eyes a little while later, watching Katara humming happily as she took a bit of the chocolate chip cookie that they had made earlier. He could tell that she was content even though her brown hair was a mess after they had a little bit of fun in their bedroom. He chuckled as he reached over her to grab himself a cookie which earned him a glare from his wife. “What? It was your idea to make cookies if I recall,” she told him with a roll of her azure eyes.
“You’re hogging all of the cookies, love,” Zuko said, leaning over to attempt to grab another cookie but Katara lifted the plate out of his reach. “Seriously?”
Katara gave in and leaned in closer to him on the bed. She placed the plate between them so that way each of them can grab a cookie to enjoy and they fell into a comfortable silence.
After they had ate the cookies, Katara placed the plate on the dresser next to her and Zuko turned off the lamp. Katara wiggled in the bed to get closer to her warmed bodied husband, blushing when strong arms wrapped around her waist loosely.
“That was a good late-night snack,” Katara whispered, yawning when she could feel her eyes growing heavy with sleep. “We should do that often.”
She could hear his deep chuckle from behind her. “I’ll be sure to buy more ingredients, my love.”
