Losing Jackson might have been the worst thing for Lucy's character development.

Obviously, your best friend dying is a massive personal loss and affected Lucy as a person incredibly deeply. But storytelling wise, losing Jackson and his place in Lucy's life has done the character of Lucy a disservice. (I am fully aware that the actor wanted to leave the show, which left the writers with only a few options. I am not criticizing the choice to kill him off, just analyzing the fallout of it on Lucy.)

Jackson and Lucy were incredibly close friends and roommates, plus work colleagues. They were together all the time and they knew each other so deeply. They were ride-or-die supportive, but also willing to share hard things when needed.

Lucy doesn't have that anymore.

Her biggest support is Tim; he is her best friend. Rachel is a non-entity, both on screen and in the background story. Nyla and Angela are so obsessed with each other and busy with their families, that they haven't gotten close with Lucy specifically. Bailey is all about Nolan and Nolan hasn't been super tight with Lucy in years. Aaron and Lucy were getting closer, but never quite got there before he left. Celina and Lucy have the potential to get there, but they aren't now, and it will take some time to narrow/overcome the differential between them. And Lucy does not see Tamara as an equal, as someone she can lay her burdens on. That basically leaves only Tim.

While people are supportive of her and care about her, that's not the same as being there intimately and being secure enough to call her on her BS. Tim can and has done that. He called her out about not loving Chris, about her feelings for him, and so on. And he was always the first person she went to, and almost always was there for her. That just adds to the immense grief and loss she felt when they broke up.

But that means there is no one who can do that for her now.

Her story has been so wrapped up with Tim, that there was never room for anyone to fill that void left by Jackson. She doesn't have someone who can look at what's going on under her words and public image and then talk to her about it. I think there are a few people who see that she's putting on a braver face than she truly feels, but they either are too busy or don't feel like they can say anything to her. And Tim certainly can't push her on all of this, since 1) he's the reason for all of her hurt and 2) is trying to win her over without imposing his will over hers. Like, that's the specific issue that caused so much conflict! So he really, really cannot do it.

Lucy is incredibly smart and wise and understands feelings and behavior so well, her own included. She can explain and analyze everything. But she uses that to cover up her own actual feelings. Case in point, in Now and Then (2x12), right after being buried and rescued, she comes back to work. Everyone is checking in on her, and she's rebuffing them, telling them she's fine, she went through all the mandated therapy, she's processed, and on and on. She uses all the right terminology and plasters on a bright smile. And then she freaks out at the speed dating event with Angela and Nyla. She could say all the right words and she truly did understand them, but she still had the feelings!!!

She intellectualizes her feelings, rather than feeling them, a lot of the time. Some of my favorite moments of Lucy, when she felt most authentic and most honest, were when she was losing her temper and yelling. Her getting fierce and barking at Tim in Impact (2x01), that he can rake her over the coals but don't pretend he's doing it because he has a code. Her losing her shit and yelling, so angrily, at Tim in Secrets and Lies (6x06) about Ray and the leaving her out. And a few others. These are AMAZING moments for her when she stops analyzing her feelings and what other people's perceptions are, and just acts on her emotions and lets them really show.

And now, I really think she needs someone to get her to confront her own feelings. Jackson would have done that, especially after everything that happened with Tim (all of it, ups and downs). There are people that have the knowledge and history to do that (Angela would be great, Genny would be a fabulous choice, even Harper would get right to the heart of it), but they aren't with her enough to actually push. She will try to deflect and deny, and she needs someone who will stare her down and gently, but firmly, poke at the wound until she opens it back up and finally addresses healing it properly. But since the story hasn't put anyone into that position, Lucy is stuck without meaningful support.

oh my god what the FUCK was that

okay, the two things i liked first. pros:

surprisingly, being a game truther, i liked the changes made to the tv station. having the soldiers strung up in the dark with the floodlights and thunderstorm gave that scene a brutality and scariness it doesn't have in the game, and dina and ellie having to sneak out like they did was very high-stakes and suspenseful.

ellie's "i would die for you. i would. but that is not what just happened" whole bit was so good i went back and rewatched it. her admission about her immunity and the dialogue in that moment felt true to ellie's character. isabella and bella did a great job with that scene. of course it makes no sense that ellie is surprised that dina is pointing a gun at her, but whatever. for the most part, that scene was done really well.

okay, now for the cons. buckle up, because there's a lot of them.

why the fuck are the making dina and ellie a happy little couple? "i'm gonna be a dad" give me a fucking BREAK??? i can't even express how antithetical to the story of the game this is. because ellie is not happy about this baby, she's horrible to dina, she's so wrapped up in revenge that she can't think about anything else. making them like...... dream up a baby registry is SUCH a mistake. and having dina go with ellie? this is supposed to be the part where ellie goes truly unhinged. she loses every shred of morality. not even dina and her baby can bring her back from the precipice, even all the way to the bitter end when she's built a life with them. she goes alone, to plow through all of seattle, to become a cold-blooded killer, to kill abby at any cost. but nope! now here comes mommy and daddy on a fun little killing spree while they think up colors for the nursery. what the fuck, genuinely.

like, not to be dramatic, but it's...... completely shredding the most intense and important character development in the story. tonally the game makes a very clear divide between jackson and seattle, and the show is forcing warm, intimate, loving moments into what is supposed to be a cold, gloomy, numb-feeling section of the story. ellie doesn't respond well to dina being pregnant. this is the moment where she really shows a side of herself that is so steeped in anger and fear and grief that she almost never gets over it. whether she will ever get over it is, like, a major question the game leaves us with. why are they screwing with that? why are they making ellie more palatable? let her be fucked up!!!

as for dina, what in the chappel roan comphet coming out trauma is going on with her. i actually hate how they've turned the confident bisexual woman from the game into...... whatever this dina is. i'm just personally not that interested in "my parents didn't approve, i was confused, i'm not brave, i tried to force it with a guy" whatever kind of bisexual storyline this is. maybe some people are. but i liked dina how she was in the game: simply, unapologetically, confidently bisexual. we don't have to have trauma in our coming-out stories. we can just be bisexual.

also, it's weird that they made dina and ellie's first sexual intimacy be some weird trauma-bond, heat of passion, right after a near-death-experience kind of thing. dina and ellie sleeping together in the game felt sweet, tender, flirty, warm, safe. this felt rushed and strange and insincere. it felt cheap, maybe. i can't really describe it. it was like it was written for straight men. like, graphic, rain-soaked, sloppy, hair down and makeup smudged. maybe i'm in the minority on this but it didn't feel good to me. i'm interested to know what people thought about it.

i think we're spending way too much time on isaac. perhaps if we hadn't wasted so much time in jackson in therapy we'd have time for development on isaac, but we don't really have time now.

anyone holding onto the "here's how tommy can still kill all of seattle" dream can put the tin hats away. it's not happening. and it sucks and it's a waste. but it's clearly not happening.

also, these are maybe nitpicky and not really story related, but:

didn't love the graphic content this episode. maybe that's a me thing. but the stupid josh peck gratuitous vulgarity, the full nudity in the torture scene, the straight up sex with dina end ellie - i know that's hbo's style, but i think we've maybe lost the art of subtlety.

everybody's said this but their clothes look brand new even after they've been crawling through mud and rain and whatever. it looks fake and weird.

in that same vein, ellie's bite marks have all looked super clean and not gnarly as if she's almost gotten her arm gnawed off. also she gets bit every other tuesday so it's lost its wow factor.

A Possible Theory on Why Some Fandoms Are More Popular And Long Lasting Than Others

So i was thinking the other day, why the hell are some book/movie/game/etc fandoms lasting for 50+ years and others die in a year?

I was comparing some of my favourite fandoms, the Percy Jackson fandom and the Harry Potter fandom and what I noticed and discovered is to make a good fan base, you HAVE to create a good organisation in your story/game/movie/book etc.

What do I mean?

In Percy Jackson for example, we have our main character’s home base. Camp Half Blood. It’s developed in the background throughout the whole series, there is a companion book on the Camp itself, and the whole area is relatively fleshed out and utilised throughout the whole series. It’s described in detail, there are official maps released, people love the camp.

In Harry Potter, we have, of course, Hogwarts. It’s by far more developed than Camp Half Blood, with detailed classes, architecture, art, story, lore, founders. And our main characters spend majority of their time in the building itself. Hell, even the villains of the story used to attend Hogwarts

Why does this matter? Why does world building matter?

Aha. Here’s my hook. Fandoms stay alive as long as fans stay connected to the community. And how else to develop the strongest connection possible than fans being able to build their own original characters or ocs and imagine they’re in the story?

Human imagination is a powerful thing, as soon as they have a world (Hogwarts and Camp Half blood) to build off of, they can create their own characters and imagine more stories building off the Canon to keep their love for the universe alive.

This is why role play communities are so popular, in addition to having your original character and developing a story for them, having a community to showcase and use your character greatly increases your attachment to this community.

Once you make your fans feel like they are part of your world, it’s the strongest connection. Because by default, humans are selfish, they feel more close to something if it’s like they have involvement in it.

Characters VS World Building.

It’s the age old question, what’s more important?

Neither.

No one is more important than the other, it’s just a matter of what you’re trying to accomplish.

With focusing on world building, you almost confirmed yourself a space for your fans to imagine themselves in. And you can have a lot of fun with world building! Creating your own original words, terms and concepts. Your own take on real world events and items and applying it to your story.

However you can’t focus on both so your characters might need to be limit to 2-3 main ones, to balance out your complex and intricate world.

With focusing on characters, you build yourself loyalty based on attachment to characters. This may not yield as much original characters/fan led creation as focusing on world building, but the perks are your characters explode into main stream. Art will be drawn of them, fanfictions will be written about them, headcanons, adaptations etc. By pouring effort into your characters, you create deep and meaningful bonds with specific characters that people will remember.

Maybe 10 years down the line, your fans may not remember everything about the story, or the environment or the world you created, but they will look back one day and go “Good lord, that was an AMAZING character that I still love to this day.” And that’s amazing for you.

This is exactly the case with Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. In my opinion, Hogwarts is wildly more developed than Camp Half Blood for obvious reasons. Hogwarts is a school and CHB is a homebase. Most of the time PJO characters are on quests away form their home base but HP characters are almost always in Hogwarts.

So how do you world build?

1. Of course create your organisation, base it off maybe a real life historical organisation with your own twist.

2. Build a rich and complex backstory, with specific historical figures that contributed to the creation of your organisation.

3. Build ROLES. Build divisions and department in your organisation. Think houses in Hogwarts and cabins in Camp Half Blood. Build specific roles your fans can imagine themselves as. Prefect, Head Girl/Boy, Head Counsellor.

4. Describe describe describe. You have all this amazing lore in your arsenal, now weave and intertwine your characters with them. Make your characters attached to the organisation and want to protect it. Mix your plot and story with it, make it so your organisation MATTERS to the story.

World building is hella important.

Actually this goes for the entire lost trio. The AMOUNT of TRAUMA these three had and the potential for character development they had too is UNREAL, yet nothing was done. Let us begin my personal beliefs

Leo:

-Delve into his trauma of his remaining family deciding he was the devil at age EIGHT and refusing to take him in-abandonment issues

-Have his constant feelings of invalid-ness and being the unneeded member of the seven be corrected by giving him CLOSE FRIENDS HE PIPER AND JASON NEED TO BE CLOSER AT THE VERY LEAST and conversations when he realizes he is wanted and needed

-Don't have Calypso storyline in there-he didn't need a girlfriend to solve his problems, if you have it, have it as good friends-another member of his support group

-Make him gay and have valgrace or slowburn/implied valgrace(the two of them pining then like kinda tragic as Leo dies)

Piper:

-Have her lesbian storyline occur in HoO where she's a main character-it's an important storyline for her character that deserves a spotlight and time that ToA couldn't give it

-No Jiper! This relationship was toxic and founded on fake memories-if you're going to do it, do it as a part of her LGBTQIA+ journey and Jason's as well

-Don't have her demonize femininity! She can wear dresses! She can wear makeup! She can present more feminine and still be the same character and her hatred of any and all things feminine is not good representation! Make her a feminist, please! Or at least make her less against femininity as a whole.

-No kaleidoscope eyes! Give her brown eyes and also have her rediscovering her culture storyline as a part of HoO too!

Jason:

-Make him a better fighter than Percy. He has been at Camp Jupiter since the age of three and spent a year with wolves before then. He has spent his entire life in a military setting training, he should be a better swordfighter than Percy 'I show up to summer camp at age 12 to 16 and only really use my sword then' Jackson.

-Give him more powers. Or Percy less. Children of the big three should be equal in potential power, not Percy being OP and the others having lightning or shadows powers some of the time. Percy needs less power and Jason, Thalia, Hazel, and Nico need more. Jason should have more power than Percy as he has had longer to train it.

-Give him a personality. His storyline in HoO should be a journey of self-discovery. He has always been another member of an army, with constant pressure on him to be the best at everything and a strong confident leader who doesn't make mistakes as a son of Jupiter. His entire life has been dictated by those around him. For the first time, he is free of that and he needs to be discovering things like how he likes to dress, his style, his sexuality, his likes and dislikes, and his personality. In my opinion he should be kinda shy with a feral edge, side effect of the wolves, who is always trying to people please. When he stops doing this, he becomes significantly happier and a greater use to the team. Plus valgrace;D.

-Also, make him despise Percy at the beginning. He worked his entire life to be an afterthought that nobody looked for when he went missing for months, while Percy was looked for by everyone after only a few days. Percy achieved everything he wanted in a matter of weeks in New Rome and he was happy and had friends and a life. Percy has everything Jason doesn't. They need to have a moment where they are locked together and Percy goes "why do you hate me" and Jason breaks down because "You have everything I want and you don't even have to try!". This would create a better relationship for them and be the turning point for Jason as Percy hears what he has to say and validates him. Also Jason personality.

-Don't kill him off and continue his self-discovery journey in ToA.

-Make him and Thalia have a closer relationship that in the months between TLH and TSoN, it is implied that they spend time together. He should feel safe with her and they needed more interactions as they are SIBLINGs, god damit.

-Make him and Reyna just friends-she wanted to look for him but couldn't 'cause Octavian(the bitch) and someone needed to be Praetor in his absence.

-Also give him history with Octavian-ex-friends or something give me drama.

Some thoughts I had for the Trials of Ares au

It starts basically the same as normal TOA, dumpster, Meg, Jacksons (Meg's presence is the only reason Percy doesn't kill Ares on the spot because Ares significantly lacks the goodwill that Apollo has), and then camp. I think it was Owl (???) who mentioned this but Ares has been raising his kids to be bullies pretty much and when he shows up at camp, these kids realise they have power over someone they dislike and used to fear, so they basically terrorise Ares and kick him out of the cabin. So Ares would either be awkwardly hanging out in the Hermes cabin, or he'd be able to get a room for himself in the big house (which could be used to emphasise his isolation and loneliness due to his own actions), OR one of my personal post-pjo hcs is getting a separate cabin built for unclaimed demigods to free up space in the Hermes cabin and Ares has to go there (I like to make it a Hestia cabin ^^). And Ares' isolation and general bad time can contrast the very fun time Meg is having by contrast (kinda wish we got more of Meg hanging out with her Demeter siblings in toa).

Anyway, pretty early on, maybe in the labyrinth or maybe in the forest, they come across some monsters and Ares gets a tiny little spark of god powers, just enough to summon Ethan's ghost. That little spark dissipates as soon as Ethan gets there so A) Ares isn't controlling him and B) Ares can't send him back. Ethan isn't really being ordered around by Ares but he fights the monsters mostly out of instinct and because Meg is there. Ethan assumes Ares is a random son of Ares and isn't happy with him for summoning him from the dead, and he is even less happy when Ares gets offended and proudly attests that he is actually Ares. They argue for a bit and Ethan demands to be sent back to the Underworld, which doesn't work great because Ares doesn't have his powers anymore so he can't do shit and Ethan is stuck with Ares and Meg. He's pissed but there isn't much he can do other than follow Meg and Ares out of the wood and sees camp for the first time since he left before the Titan war. And he sees the Nemesis cabin.

The point is that it helps establish Ethan's motivation to go along with Ares and Meg. First of all, he can only get sent back to the Underworld and move on if Ares has his godly powers, so if Ethan wants to return to his normal afterlife, he needs to help get Ares his powers back. Second, the Nemesis cabin is there. Ethan has a cabin and a sibling and proof that he didn't die for nothing, but now the victory he earned is under threat again, this time from the Tri, so he has something to personally fight for. Also, this would probably come into play later, but the existence of the Nemesis cabin is also proof that the gods can change and be better, so when Ares starts getting character development, Ethan can feel like it's worth it to see that development through and see where it will lead.

My Joel Miller fics recs from 2023

I’ve planned to do this since before Christmas, but life caught me up, so that's why I'm here rushing to finishing this before the reveillon party. 2023 was a very tough year for me, in different ways, and this stories were my refuge and my balm during good times and bad times, so this was the way I found to honor all these incredible authors who made my life better this year.

To the authors: you guys are the most amazing and sweet people ever, I know that I'm not active as other readers and I don't reblog your works enough - and I'm sorry for that, I wish I could shower you with the praises you guys deserve.

Hope this will make up for all the comments and reblogs that I haven't give.

And to the readers who find this recs: most of these stories are series and most of them has age gap and are Joel Miller x fem/afab!reader. I won't put warnings from each fic because it would be a too long post, so click the link and read the author's warnings in each before you start to read - I'm afraid to get into fandoms because of people who give shit to authors, so please, don't be this kind of person.

A stranger's heart without a home (complete)

Summary: A one night stand that later becomes a secret affair – or masterpiece of literature – all the poets and great writers ran so Doni could walk.

This is my favorite fic of all times, forever! I read and re-read it so much that I can’t even count how many times I’ve had read it, it’s my 100% comfort fic. Enemies to lovers is my favorite trope, and the way @morning-star-joy developed here it’s perfection in the most pure way.

It’s Joel on his Jackson era and it’s a perfect character development from both sides, how to people who prefer to deal things on their own learn to rely on someone else.

I also highly recommend But you know the killer doesn't understand, which it’s on-going Joel x fem! Reader also post-Outbreak in Jackson, but it’s different and addicting as ASHWAH.

A Lover’s Pinch (on-going)

Summary: a one night stand (do I have a pattern?) at the bar turns to be so much more when you discover that your fling it’s your professor at university.

The professor x student trope might be cliché for some, and by the very brief summary that I wrote above may sound like Pretty Little Liars, but @hier--soir works with those elements and creates something beyond amazing, it is like contemplate a work of art at a museum, but much better.

I’m very much obsessed with this story, that’s why I reread it with more and more frequency.

Can’t even mention the references in this story – it’s truly enriching, it makes all better, truly.

Plus: the playlist it’s amazing!!!!

Short Days, Long Nights (on-going)

Summary: Remnants of a band travelers, you and Joel find a cabin in the woods - what would be the problem with staying?

I’m crazy about this one, it’s my true love and it had 3 or 4 chapters when I started and now we’re heading to chapter 17, blessed be @frannyzooey for sustaining us with this preciosity for so long.

I'm a sucker for when there's one character (Joel) reluctant for his feelings, and if the story was only about this, I would be perfectly glad too with, too. BUT Kelli it's a genius, an amazing writer, giving me all that I didn't even knew I wanted.

It's fluff, with smut from the highest quality - with some tense moments, wich turns everything more addicting.

A Safe Haven (on-going)

Summary: Joel's quickly drawn to the vet of Jackson - even knowing she's married. Will this affair thrive? Or there's more underneath of the vet's story? (Jesus Christ, I’m so sorry for this lame summary, but I refuse to copy from your masterlist and I’m also rushing to finishing this rec today).

I was bought on the infidelity trope and the drama that comes with it. It would still be a nice story, but @joelsgreys it’s so much fucking talented that she wrote the most beautiful thing ever!

It has tooth roting fluff, drenching panties smut and heartstopping angst! All perfectly written and balanced.

I also love how Ellie it's also a crucial character for the couple's history and I really adore how she's attached to Peach.

Special mention to Fall Into Temptation and Strawberry, that lived rent free in my mind since I've read those.

Seams (on-going)

Summary: Joel pays visit to Jackson's seamstress after a trouble with his too-tight jeans – and it's only heaven from that on, won't say more.

Now I call @fuckyeahdindjarin ✨Queen of the Build Up✨ and that's because the way Cee builds up the sexual tension between characters it's undescribable.

Cee is such an excellent writer, not only in Seams but on other stories too she's gives a rich description of details that makes the reading flow better, it's like knowing you looking at gem stone.

Breakout (complete)

Summary: Boxer!Joel AU when he has to train a fuckboy who happens to date a sweet little thing.

Well I'm a fan from @the-ginger-hedge-witch for a while, she wrote one of the best Javier Peña fics ever (which turned into a book and that's fucking A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!) and other amazing stories, but this one got me hooked so bad.

Clearly I have a pattern because I LOVE when there is an obstacle for the characters to stay together, in this case, a relationship (I already spoiled that her boyfriend sucks, but I don't think it's spoils the story development) and Ren just atests she's a wonderful writer - now book writer, blessed be her 🙏🏻

And the idea of Joel using his fists it's already apealing, am I right?

I also recommend Friendly Fire, that I love just for knowing that in this, Ren envisioned an Aries character for reader - but also the premise of the story is great, too.

In The Woods Somewhere (complete)

Summary: living alone in a cabin at the apocalypse gets less dull when a teenager appears with a handsome injured man.

I've read this since a while, but it marked me. @eupheme created such tenderness between the characters - they know he and Ellie can't stay, which makes the affair even more apealling.

I’ll know It when I see it (on-going)

Summary: Joel as a porn star in its golden era who meets Lucky, a rising star in porn - chemestry goes beyond the cameras.

@bageldaddy deserves all the shout out forever because this here it's golden. They're both are porn stars and I could be hot just for this, but of course there's feelings involved - and the way they struggle to fight against these it's what makes this story even more perfect. Shout out to the one shot Sundown, as well, it’s completely wonderful.

Something wretched about this (complete)

Summary: Joel Miller it's a self appointed pharmacist in the QZ, and fucks you when you don't have how to pay for your father's medicine

Whoring yourself for meds sounds bad? In this story it's hot af! It's filthy, each chapter explores different sexual practices and it's THE. BEST. THING. IN. THE. WORLD!!!

@covetyou it's the most blessed being for writing a perfection like this, seriously. I loved every single chapter of this, loved Joel being an asshole and a slut. I can't tell enough how much joy this story has brought me. And lo it's better than Santa, because she provides christmas gifts for the nice and naughty, with Freeze-thaw (smut with fluff) and Baubles (smut with FILTH) - I can't die before I try the balldo, I didn't even knew this, didn't think that this could be possible - but happily it is, and this one shot it's perfect in every aspect.

Take Care of You (on-going)

Summary: Joel it's a sugar daddy in this AU and appears in your life to make all better 👀 He doesn't charges for the sexual part of the arrangement, but he's irresistible - so what will you do?

The ideia of a sugar daddy it's extremely appealing to me because that's all I wanted, you know? Some rich hot guy telling me I don't need to work and paying everything to me - that's living! Okay jk, but I started reading this when things caught up badly at work, so it was a sweet refuge.

@theidiotwhowritesthings it's the perfect writer! It's the perfect slow burn that makes you thirst for more and more!

Apothecary (complete)

Summary: Summary: Joel falls in love with the "witch" from Jackson and it has its perks and struggles.

I LOVE Practical Magic, it's one of my favorites witch movies so to read something inspired on that it's great -but @atinylittlepain it's such a wonderful, talented, amazing writer - so we were all blessed with this masterpiece.

It has fluff, angst, smut - stupid people being scared about what they don't understand and etc. It's very sweet, Joel also doesn't understands about her, but can't help being drawn. And Ellie it's a natural, their relationship here, how they grow to be a family ... it's utterly sweet. Special mention to Only Lovers Left Alive (another movie that I LOVE), The Heyloft and the masterpiece Down to The Ankles (it's perfection and it's inspired in Bones and All, other film that I truly love).

Come home (on-going)

Summary: when you've lost everything and everyone, you reach to Jackson - and meets a ruggedly handsome who you can't help being drawn to.

I've read this for a while, as well, but I still think about this story often. It's a slow burn - which I love (in case you haven't noticed from the stories listed above) - and it's so sweet, the blossom of a friendship that turns to more, their relationship with Ellie ... It's been a while since it was uptaded and I hope @imtryingmybeskar it's okay, because this story it's lovely and I really wish to see and ending for them.

Catalyst

I'm gonna just summarize that it's a threesome with Joel and Frankie Morales from Triple Frontier, that's it - if that ain't reason enough for you to read, idk man.

I didn't even knew that I wanted it, that I needed it - until I read it. I find threesomes hot af, but I don't tend to enjoy when it's with characters that I love too deeply - don't ask me why - but in THIS ONE, GOD FUCKING DAAAAAMN!

It has filth, of course, but there's also fluff - which I find inevitable when it's about Frankie. In the chapter Here, especially, @ezrasbirdie builds perfectly of the struggles that I imagine for a threeway relationship, reading it was sad, hot and lovely.

Joel locked his front door, a bit grumpy that he had to be up this early. Ever since he started working with his father when he turned 16 last week, he had been given the very unwanted task of feeding the animals first thing in the morning, which, as far as ranch life was concerned, was the God-awful five in the morning. He felt as if he had just fallen asleep, and here he was, walking over to the family ranch with his eyes hardly opened.

The family had stayed up late last night, and he didn’t want to leave early just to catch his unfortunate, usual bedtime. It was a special event, after all.

Fifty years. That’s how long his namesake, his Pops and beloved Nana had been together. And it was hard not to feel jealous of them. They were still so very much in love. For as long as he remembered, it was rare to see one of them without the other. Pops was never an idle man, always working on something or other, and Nana was always right there, keeping him company, a project always in her hands for the grandchildren or the business. They were always talking and laughing, hands on each other at all times, giggling like teenagers in love. How a couple could go fifty years without running out of things to talk about, he never knew. But he would love to find out one day.

Considering the amount of times he heard Pops tell the same story over and over again, he was shocked to find out that he had never told anyone the story of how he and Nana had met and married in the first place. He was saving this story for their fiftieth anniversary, he had told everyone during his speech last night, the room filled with the original Millers, children and grandchildren, and family friends.

Everyone listened intently, this old man telling his family how he came to meet the love of his life, his very reason for living, his eyes full of love for her, full of nostalgia and happy memories with her.

“Thank you for a wonderful fifty years, darling, I am the luckiest man alive. My heart beats only for you, my dear. I love you so much.” He then took Nana by the hand and kissed her lovingly.

The whole room was silent. There was not a dry eye in the room. Great Uncles Will, Tommy and Benny and Great Aunts Liv, Maria and Diana were the only ones who knew the story, and even they were teary. Shockingly, not even Great Uncle Max and Great Aunt Tess knew this, despite the fact that they had all been friends for fifty years. Heck, they were the unofficial Millers.

Aunt Ellie, despite knowing she was adopted and was there from the beginning, apparently didn’t know this either. She and Aunt Sarah were inconsolable, sitting in their brother, his father’s arms while the story was being told. His father was wiping tears off his cheek, touched by his parents’ love story. The siblings went over and hugged their parents, crying into their shoulders, thanking them for being the greatest parents anyone could hope for.

If he was ever lucky enough to fall in love one day, Joel hoped he would have a story like that to tell too. And that, in his mind, was a tough one to beat.

He walked quickly in the early spring morning, wanting to get the job done as quickly as possible. Nana had promised him breakfast today. And he was never going to say no to that. He walked past the office and workshop for the tailoring business that Nana and Great Aunt Maria started, Miller Tailoring, which Aunt Sarah and Aunt Lucy, along with Aunt Ellie’s partner, Aunt Dina, now ran. Right next door was Miller’s Constructions, the business his Pops and Great Uncles started. Aunt Ellie ran it now, some of his male cousins working under her. To no one’s surprise, she was the only child from the first generation of the original Millers who had taken to carpentry and building, despite everyone being roped in for the work in the beginning. She really was her Papa’s daughter.

Joel had the option of working for either business, as everyone in the family did, but he knew squat about tailoring, taking almost ten minutes to thread a needle, and successfully crushed his thumb the first time he tried to hammer a nail in place. So here he was, headed for the ranch, which his father and Uncle Danny ran together at this ungodly hour to earn his place in the family business. Everyone starts from the bottom of the barrel, Pops had said, even family.

Pops, Nana and the great aunts and uncles were all retired now, reaping the benefits of their hard work during their youth. Apparently, the lands began as a combined less than half an acre between the four families. They had expanded to over 70, and there were talks of expanding further.

Joel hurried, the morning chill that still came with early spring starting to get to him. He quickly did his tasks, some of the ranch hands already there, making sure he performed them up to standards. By the time he finished, the sun was up, and he quickly ran to his Pops and Nana’s to get that promised breakfast, always a treat. He needed it for the rest of his work day, after all.

He and his cousins loved their grandparents. Loved the advantage of living in close quarters with everyone. Pops and Nana’s house was basically sanctuary. No one could be harmed if they were there. Hugs from Nana were the best, her beef and vegetable stew even better.

Aunt Ellie, Aunt Sarah and his Mama all learned how to make that stew, but none of them could quite get it to taste exactly like Nanas. If he was lucky, he could have whatever’s left of that delicious stew she made for Pops last night for breakfast, that is, if Pops hadn’t devoured all of it himself after everyone left. It was his favourite meal, despite the unfortunate event that was the stew’s first try, which left everyone howling last night. Pops claimed it was delicious, to which Great Aunt Maria answered with a quick “Heck no it wasn’t,” to a roar of laughter from everyone. Pops then told everyone that he would eat it every day if it meant staying married to Nana, earning him a kiss from her. She still blushed every time they kissed. It really was the sweetest thing to behold.

Sometimes, they stayed over just to hear Nana read to Pops, his head in her lap, her hand scratching his head absentmindedly. He knew Pops could read. He distinctly remembered him reading contracts and newspapers. Apparently he could not read very well when they first married, and the habit of listening to her read to him stuck. And after all these years, they still kept that tradition alive, even if the grandchildren joined in. But Pops always had one restriction for these sessions - her lap was for his use only, much to his grandchildren’s chagrin. Greedy, greedy, greedy.

When he approached, the house was still dark. He knocked on the front door, placing the jars of fresh milk he had brought for them on the bench that supposedly no one was allowed to use ever, it was their special bench, that and the swing overlooking the land. Aunt Ellie, Aunt Sarah and his father had often complained that their only times spent on that swing were back when they still couldn’t form memory, how unfair!

Weird, Joel and his cousins used to think – he and his cousins played on that swing all the time, Pops and Nana watching them happily. Maybe it’s true, parents and grandparents had different rules and standards, even if they were the exact same people.

There was no answer. He knocked again, harder this time, just for good measure. The grandchildren had always been warned again and again by their parents to knock when visiting Pops and Nana. You never knew what those two were up to behind closed doors. Apparently, the three siblings found out the hard way. What they saw still haunted them to this day.

There was still no answer, so Joel used the key everyone seemed to have and unlocked the front door. The house was quiet. It was almost seven, it was quite unthinkable that they were still asleep, even with last night’s festivities. Early birds get the worms, Pops always said.

He didn’t know why, but standing there in that familiar room, there was an unease in his heart. He ran up the stairs and frantically knocked on their bedroom door. Nothing. He knocked again, yelling for his Pops and Nana, his heart beating fast. He opened the door and rushed in.

There they were, still in bed, the framed old kerchief and lace hankerchief with their initials in the corners on the wall above their head. They were facing each other, looking so peaceful and in love. Pops holding Nana close to his chest with his right arm, his left holding her right hand between their bodies, fingers entwined, legs tangled, his lips on her forehead.

They looked like they were sleeping, but his heart was telling him otherwise.

Joel nervously went over and tried to wake his Nana, his hand jerking back as soon as he noticed how cold her skin was, as was his Pops’, his cheek wet with drying tears.

He ran out, gunning it towards the other houses, screaming for his parents, his siblings, his cousins, his aunts and uncles, great aunts and great uncles, for everyone. Everyone came out, still dressed in pyjamas, getting their housecoats to go over. Joel was inconsolable, begging for someone to help his Pops and Nana. His Uncle Marcus, the family doctor, ran ahead to their house.

Their bedroom was soon filled with heartbroken sobs. Aunts Ellie and Sarah laid on the bed with their parents, his father sitting at Pops’s feet, tears flowing out of their eyes.

Nana had left first, peacefully, in her sleep, Uncle Marcus later told everyone. Pops must have woken up to his lifeless wife, and held her close, mourning her, before his own heart gave out. His body was warmer than hers when Marcus got there, the tears on his face still drying.

“He died of a broken heart,” Aunt Sarah had tearily whispered.

No one could find reason to disagree with her.

Pops wasn’t exaggerating after all. His heart really did beat for her.

They buried the beloved lovebirds in a single casket, the great uncles coming out of retirement to build their brother and sister a special one to fit them both. Aunt Ellie, Aunt Sarah and his father helped prepare their parents for burial, leaving their fingers entwined. They chose the spot where the swing stood. The one Pops had built for Nana. The two would sit there for hours in each other’s arms, looking at the view, the land it covered now part of their legacy.

Heyy, can I ask for a yandere alphabet with jesse from tlou pls? But with a detail: can I ask some hcs before the alphabet starts? I'm gonna explain why: I would understand it's hard to imagine such a good man like him being into this context, but I think that makes even more interesting if we think about it. I mean, almost every yandere character out there usually is portrait as having a notion of their nature their entire lives and being confident about it. So imagine jesse, who has always being such a golden guy to everyone, experiencing this twisted feelings for the first time for girl (reader), not understanding what the fuck is wrong with him but at the same time having the most fuck up thoughts everytime he put his eyes on reader. Would be interesting to see headcanons about how it started, how he behaved towards reader before taking her all to himself (did he ever tried to cope with this feelings when they started? When did he noticed it was more serious than he thought? When did he decided not fight this feelings and actually follow them? Did someone noticed something different on him?).

Also I feel like the yandere aphabet would be an interesting take with jesse because like, he was so protective of his friends and comunity - imagine how protective of his darling one if he was in love with her and at the same time obsessed with her?

E = Exposed (How much of their heart do they bear to their darling? How vulnerable are they when it comes to their darling?)

Jesse bares his heart to you completely, but only after he’s taken you. He’s vulnerable when it comes to you, almost to a fault. He’ll tell you how much he loves you, how he’s willing to do anything to keep you safe. He’ll reveal his darkest thoughts, expecting you to understand and accept them as part of his love for you.

F = Fight (How would they feel if their darling fought back?)

If you fought back, Jesse would be hurt, but he’d try to stay calm. He’d tell you that he understands you’re scared, that it’s okay to be angry with him. He’d try to soothe you, using gentle words and soft touches, but if you continued to resist, he might get more forceful, using his strength to keep you in place.

G = Game (Is this a game to them? How much do they enjoy watching their darling try to escape?)

This isn’t a game to Jesse. He takes his feelings for you very seriously. Watching you try to escape would upset him more than anything. He wouldn’t enjoy it; it would only make him more determined to make you understand that you belong with him.

Hey, so I saw a few others getting asked this question and wondered what it was for you? You understand them so well … 👏

What was the Lamb x Standish scene that made you realise that you shipped them?

Ps I think about your current WIP every day (🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲) so also wondering: What is most difficult about portraying Jackson—and same goes for Catherine?

Retrospectively, I'd say it was the underwear scene, followed by the gun scene, and then the "I buy your Y-fronts" moment—but I think in reality, it was simpler than that. I watched S1–S3 within just a few days and went to check AO3 right after finishing the last episode. So it happened really quickly, but I suppose it all started because of Catherine.

I noticed her—how amazing and beautiful she is. I remember telling my friend that they want us to see her as old, but she’s not that old. I think I really fell for her pretty quickly. And when I fall for a character like that, I almost always look for someone to ship them with. It doesn’t necessarily have to be canon. But in this case, it was—because Jackson was a pretty obvious choice right away.

Although, I have to admit that in some other universe, I might’ve fallen for Catherine and Diana, hehe.

So I started looking for something to base my obsession on after I’d already fallen for them.

A few days later, when I tried to rationalise what I was getting myself into, that sequence of the underwear, gun, and Y-fronts scenes came to mind—because it was filmed in such a shipper kind of way. The whole exchange about the underwear is just straight-up flirty, and it doesn’t add much to the plot or character development apart from highlighting that they shamelessly flirt with each other.

The second scene that really caught my attention was when she accused him of never wanting to talk about anything—meaning his feelings. That’s a pretty personal accusation. Not something you’d throw at your boss, or even a regular colleague. Maybe at a very close friend. I love how she basically thought she could say that to him. And he let her. It didn’t work, but he wasn’t like, ‘Hey, who are you to ask me to talk about my feelings?’ He allowed it. And the thing that actually triggered him in the end wasn’t even that—it was Charles.

Sorry, I got a bit stuck on the next chapter, but I haven’t abandoned the story. The next chapter is mostly finished now, and I hope to publish it on Monday or Tuesday. All the chapters after that have already been written—I might need to edit them a bit, but they’re ready to go. It definitely won’t take another three weeks.

As for your last question, that’s exactly what I was stuck on—domesticity. The hardest thing about writing them is portraying them being domestic—not confrontational, not constantly bickering, but just doing simple things.

Also, I’ve never tried writing from Jackson’s POV before, and I honestly have no idea how he might sound. So that would definitely be difficult.

jiara is everything. they are my everything. they literally are all we ever wanted. would never complain for more kissing maybe, okay just slightly. like a kiss on the cheek even. but they are perfect. perfection.

ruthie. you don't even have to listen to jj's threats honey. because it's KIARA you should really be scared of. wrong pogue to make an enemy of.

protective jj makes me just.... ugh. he will do ANYTHING crazy and thoughtless and dangerous but if kiara wants to he's gonna be level headed and try to talk her out of it. he's a presh bean

absolutely love Kiara Carrera and absolutely hate her parents. wouldn't expect anything less from our girl, but the fact that her parents said "don't come back unless he's gone" and she said "okay bye then" and never looked back is just. I love her. I love jiara.

the writers really said "lets make jj's mom dead and oh yeah that asshole dad? not his real dad - raised him out of the goodness of his heart, then beat him. yeah but NO no no no noNO no sarah can't be his sister. the fans want that too bad."

the way kiara put up a pillow to make out with JJ (or more *wink*) in the chamber pod thingy *chefs kiss* and the way she and JJ had traded places, of course implying that there was definitely some rolling around going on in there *wink* best part imo (just woulda been better if we had seen them kiss but its fine IM FINE) I'm just a slut for some kiss scenes that's all. I honestly didn't even feel like their dynamic needs it. I just like to see that kissing content

I actually really love the dynamics this season. They have THREE couples in the main group and they've done amazing not making it feel like that, tbh. Though I did get frustrated because I COULD use a little more PDA sometimes, it also (especially for JJ and Kie) makes perfect sense for their characters. Plus, as friends first (and friends for so long), it's nice watching them get to slowly be more comfortable in showing affection beyond closed doors.

I know Rafe is crazy. really I do. but I really want him to become good. I love how this girl has seemed to help that, too. she's a pogue and he doesn't care - like he does but he loves her anyway and it's helped him realize why Sarah did what she did. being a pogue doesn't really change who you are. He also has shown remorse for hating on pogues, like the whole beach scene. I saw someone say they didn't understand the point but I think the point was to show us Rafe and his gf (forgot her name I'm so sorry girly), and show how mad she became, and for Rafe to realize maybe this whole pogue vs kook thing was STUPID and hurtful. It also seems to have to do with Topper development but I kind hate Topper so I don't care about him lolll

still not over the jiara kiss. THEY"VE BEEN TOGETHER FOR ALMOST 2 FUCKING YEARS.

it's the way Sarah and JB put up a seashell to let them know they're busy *wink* and Kiara almost walks in and says it's getting excessive IMPLYING that Sarah and Kie are roommates. which that makes me cackle because now I think JJ and JB are roommates and Kie and Sarah are roommates but JB stays in Sarah's room so much that Kie basically lives in JB and JJs room

cannot get over how solid jiara is. they're just... they're just right. they fit. and now that they've been together for 2 years working crap out, there's no silly early dating drama. it's just JJ being JJ, or Kie being Kie, and they both know each other so well they know there's not a reason to even argue. like JJ didn't even fight Kie on diving because he knew he couldn't fight her. she's too stubborn. just like Kie knows there's no need in getting mad at JJ when he does something wreckless because he does something like all the time. she knows talking to him calmly is the only way to even reach him anyway.

JJ: does something stupid

Sarah: "your bf's doing something stupid again"

Kie: "I know this and I love him."

cannot wait to see how they all get back together, or how Kie and JJ reunite, or how Kie will react to the news, or Rafe will help with this adventure, and how JJ will meet his dad (even though I wish it was Shoupe and not the random evil dude).

Well, hello, I’m back. The tubi streaming channel has lots of old shows for me to get nostalgic on like Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego, 6teen and the like. It also has shows that I didn’t watch when I was a kid but I’m now nostalgic for them. The latest is Class of the Titans.

Done ironically in the same number of years as Rick Riordan’s first Percy Jackson series, the show focuses on the descendants of seven Greek heroes prophesied to defeat Cronus, Jay (Jason), Odie (Odysseus), Herry (Hercules), Theresa (Theseus), Atlanta, Archie (Achilles) and Neil (Narcissus). Now I’m usually very picky about my Greek myth shows but I enjoyed this so let’s get to it. Some spoilers ahead.

While the names are a bit too on the nose, I do enjoy the teens. More for their dynamics rather than their development.

It’s clear that the higher ups wanted this to be episodic so they couldn’t change the status quo, much less have overt changes like Jay and Theresa acting like an actual couple, Neil being less narcissistic and so on. They’re dynamics between each other are well done. I ship Jay and Theresa, Atlanta and Archie grew on me, the brotherhood between the boys were clear.

I just wish they mixed it up some more like Theresa and Herry being brother and sister during Bows and Eros or the Neil and Odie odd couple in There Will Be GI Ants. Even a Jay, Herry and Atlanta episode since they seemed to be friends in the pilot.

Also, it felt like a predominant amount of redheads in the show, it was noticeable. Like did they have something against blondes, even random characters other than Athena and Archie had purple hair.

I love the puns with myths like Grae’s Anatomy, Class of the Titans and so on. I wish the school could have been integrated better. Like it was in the first few episodes but they spent so much time on training and side missions, I forgot they also have to balance school work. Like they never interact with other people. X-Men Evolution handled this sort of thing well and it’s a shame Class of the Titans couldn’t.

But I will say I enjoyed how the show rarely tried to retell myths in a contemporary setting. Rather the myths happened, and the teens use research of the mythological history to battle the aftermath of old enemies coming for revenge.

But there were definitely a few filler episodes like Cronus’ Flying Circus. Never heard of the myth of ?, but I felt bad that they didn’t do anything to help him regain his power at the end. And there wasn’t much character development or plot progress to make it matter. I will say Neil saved it with his hijinks. Same with the GI Ant one, felt very out there. Breathtaking Beauty felt out of character for Neil to pull such a hurtful prank, but then town known stuck in the 50s made it feel more like a Twilight Zone episode. I guessed they saved it with having the villain be the Sphinx but it felt too little too late.

However, there were plenty of episodes I enjoyed. In season one, the three episode pilot was solid. The Nature of Things was good as I liked Pan’s incarnation here. Same for Field of Nightmares with Medea or Medelia as they have here, and resolving the Athena and Arachne rivalry in Web of Deceit. Eye for an Eye, Road to Hades and The Last Word were good character development episodes for the teens.

In season two, Nothing to Fear but Fear Itself was a good showcase for Archie with him literally breaking down in tears and then pulling through it. He’s the one with the big tough guy facade so having him really struggle through fear felt like a real hero’s journey. Just as Cronus Vanquished, Dreamweaver and Cronus 2.0 added to the plot. Other episodes I enjoyed were Applet of Discord, Daedalus or Alive, Face Off, and Like a Rolling Stone. Omg, that reminds me. The model off between Neil and Adonis, that was based on Zoolander right? The slow motion when they passed each other? Neil’s goofy moves. Total Zoolander.

I enjoyed the new takes on several of the gods like them having less powers because no one worships them anymore. Dionysus putting his drinking into chemistry, Persephone having a dark side, Pan as a dj, Sacamander and Hecate’s creatively monstrous designs, Eris reinvented as a anarchy punk, Fortuna, an aging showgirl, Thanatos as an old man turned skeleton, Maysarus learning his lesson and helping the gods rather than be on their bad side (plus looking like a theater teacher lol) and so on. Plus I learned new things like the myth like Sybaris and Lycaon.

Cronus is so well done with literally not being able to be killed because no one can kill time and his voice actor is an amazing mix of menacing and bad guy arrogance snark. He has his sickles!

But for as much research they did into the myths, there were some points where they just disregarded it? For some reason? Like Harmonia being a big snake? I like the idea she’s a jazz listening hippie but the goddess has no relation to snakes so I didn’t get that. Also naming Eris as Aphrodite’s daughter. I know it was probably for a joke but like it’s been in no myths. I’ve seen Eris as the daughter of Nyx, the daughter of Ares, the sister of Ares, but no relation to Aphrodite. And while it’s cool that they showed Hermes and Autolycus being father-son, no mention of Hermes’ relation to Pan. Like Pan is literally Hermes’ first son.

And then other things such as when they mention Athena’s the goddess of warfare, true. But she’s also the goddess of wisdom! Like literally her goddess of warfare refers to strategy planning and the wisdom put into it. Absolutely no mention of it. Or when they went back into time to the war between gods and Titans and they show Zeus flying on Pegasus. Pegasus was born after the war from the union Poseidon and Medusa.

Same with Theresa having psychic powers even though Theseus has no relation to that. Or Neil with his luck, just Narcissus being considered a hero in general. He wasn’t a hero in his myth, he was the lesson. Hell, he might have been considered the douche in his own story. But I forgive it because he’s so like Kuzco that he’s hilarious.

I know it might sound nitpicky but it felt very half half where some myths were researched and reinvented well, and other myths disregarded for the sake of plot. Like go all in or not.

I know the second season finale doesn’t have the proper build up, I agree. But I could see what they were trying to do. Like in the premiere, Theresa was the one who was most okay with returning to normal life. And when Theresa said that she’s tired of being told she has so much power, but feels useless when needed most, I could see that. Like in season one with Neil getting kidnapped all the time, it did feel like in season 2 Theresa was kidnapped or used as bait a disproportionate amount of time.

I do appreciate that the show doesn’t keep her a damsel in distress in these situations and has her get out on her own merits in the end or halfway through, but it was noticeable. If they had build on that, the wish to be normal, the annoyance with her increasingly complicated powers, and have the other teens chime in about growing irritation of fighting enemies of the gods on their behalf, then the conflict would have been stronger.

Plus was I the only one who noticed the similarities with the X-men’s Phoenix Saga? I mean team’s resident psychic power redhead taps into their primal power with a floating avatar and goes crazy and dies. And in relationship with the leader guy of the team. Very similar. Though this is a kids show so Theresa gets to be resurrected.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed the finale. I was happy for Neil when he finally got a weapon. I laughed when the gods became mortal, and confused. Same when they got arrested. I gasped when Theresa stabbed Zeus and made him mortal. I briefly wasn’t sure how the kids would succeed to save the day. I awwwd when Jay and Theresa had their big damn kiss. Also love the twist with Cronus realizing that the prophecy has been technically fulfilled, leaving a whole new ballgame for the future. I just wish all the kids got a moment to show their prowess.

So overall, it’s a mixed bag with more pros than cons. It’s good enough that I wouldn’t mind if it got a reboot and I have ideas of how to streamline it and flesh it out. See below.

One thing that annoyed me a lot was how on their own the kids were. They all got transferred to a new school, new dorms and we hardly hear from their parents. Especially Jay with him mentioning that his mother’s a Greek immigrant. She could have appeared from time to time or with a phone call, giving relevant exposition of myths or something. And we rarely see their ‘normal live’ that they supposedly want to get back to after saving the world. So I would try to fold that in more. Also do they even have last names?

I would have Jay, Atlanta and Herry all living in the same town and school but they don’t know each other well. They all know they have Greek ancestry and Jay’s mom in particular tried to get him to be friends with them. He’s like “Mom, I’m not going to be friends with them just because they’re the only other Greek families in town. Come on!”

When the gods called about them transferring to New Olympia by saying how state of art it was, and a chance for them to become more connected to their heritage, their parents jumped on it seeing it as a way for them to stand out on college apps and get to know their heritage.

Theresa’s dad was too busy to care why his daughter wanted to transfer, he just handed the money. Same with Neil’s parents. Archie’s foster parents were all too happy to have him go to another dorm.

Jay Constantini is an average, has several friends. Works after school on his fishing boat. Plans to follow that when he’s older even though his father died from early on. Generally working class, was fascinated by his mother’s stories when he was little. Calls every week.

Herry Solórzano is obviously on the wrestling team, and several other sports. His friends are his teammates but he doesn’t spend much time with them since after school he heads home to help his grandmother who raised him after his parents died. Proud of his athleticism, teddy bear to everyone, average grades. Since New Olympia is nearby, he visits often.

Atlanta Dean is the star of her school’s cross country team, and works as a field guide for a scouts troupe. But she’s kinda a loner. Others feel she’s too intense, too competitive, too fierce. The only place she feels like she’s truly herself is when she’s amidst nature. They call every week.

Theresa Kelly’s mother died when she was in middle school, Dad didn’t know how to cope with a child and being CEO so sent her to boarding school where she worked out her restlessness with shopping and martial arts. Average grades, very popular.

Odie Jefferson’s parents are scientists and he inherited their brains and tendency of geeking out over code. They’re quite close and they encouraged his studies so he skipped several grades. That meant he didn’t make many friends his own age, and he tried to tell himself that he preferred his studies. They call whenever they’re not busy under research deadlines.

Archie Black was a foster kid, transferred to different homes and schools. He doesn’t trust easily and was quick to get into fights. The teens and gods are his first real feeling of being part of a family.

Neil Priozo had been modeling since he was a baby when he got scouted at the mall. His parents encouraged it as he got older and were proud of him getting so many gigs. He eventually became a emancipated minor, not because he doesn’t love them. It just makes it easier for him to travel around solo and they’re okay with that. I see them as rich, yet distant. Sort of love him like a pet than a son to keep track of.

I would also feature more of the gods. Apollo’s only in one episode! One, no muses, no Orpheus, no friendly sibling rivalry with Artemis. So many opportunities. They could have literally had a musical episode with him. Show each mentor mentee relationship more in depth. We rarely get to see Artemis and Atlanta together. While Hera is Jay’s patron like in the myth, I’d have Athena give her wisdom too.

Show Hestia, show Selene, show Helios, there are so many gods, make it a party. Also with the mention of Team Anubis, can we have like one episode guest stars of the Egyptian pantheon, and the Norse, and the Roman. Just one episode, to give it a little flavor other than Greeks.

Season 1 would have Odie, Archie, and Neil going over a season long character arc of what it means to be a hero. Odie suffers over the idea that he isn’t as useful to the team because of his brains over brawn and learns to get over the insecurity. Archie would take longer to trust the other teens and won’t get over his jerky, combative attitude until halfway through the series when he comes to see the others really do have his back and they are family. Neil won’t fully change (he wouldn’t be as hilarious if he did let’s face it) but he’s definitely become the heart of the group somehow and realize saving the world is just as important as protecting his complexion.

The other teens would also have their spotlight episodes like Jay realizing he can be a leader, Atlanta proving Ares/Archie’s sexism wrong and so on. They’d all face their insecurities about whether they’re ready or not to be heroes.

For Theresa in particular, I’d amend her psychic powers. They took over so much over the course of the series that she felt less like the fighter, descendent of Theseus but the daughter of an Oracle. So I’d have her be one of the main fighters at first with Poseidon as her mentor, not Persephone.

But the longer she is around the dorm, she starts developing her powers. The gods realize she’s also a descendant of Hecate. Very little so she’s not like a demigod but she has the potential for it. Normally, humans that descend from minor gods don’t get to develop those powers beyond parlor tricks but considering the circumstances, they have Theresa start training with Persephone in season two.

The same would be for Neil, being a descendant of Narcissus on one side, and Fortuna in a diluted way.

Actually I’d have that the main seven weren’t the only potential heroes. There are descendants of Greek heroes running around like a descendant of Helen, a descendant of Heskepolis, descendant of Perseus (that they never have in the show even though he’s one of the more famous myths and Greek heroes!!!) who the gods picked up to be one of the seven only for Cronus to cut him down. It will establish that Cronus is a baddie not to be messed with. Thus Neil becomes his replacement. They could have a bit of a dark humor with Hermes whipping out a scroll of potential canidates and realize others have been vanquished by Cronus, too old, language barrier and thus they’re left with Neil.

I also have the idea that the descendant of Perseus could have been a buddy of Archie’s, so when he’s killed early on, Archie is even more distrustful of the gods yet he also wants to avenge his friend. Sort of like the myth of Achilles and Agamemnon in the Trojan War.

Side note: Also thinking that Archie and Atlanta could be bi. Originally, I thought they should just make Atlanta gay because like in the myth, the guy Atlanta is paired with is proving to be less worthy of her. Yet they grew on me the way they skated around, challenged each other, and so on. Even though I still think Archie’s whole “deserve to have you” attitude around Pan and in The Deep End is less desirable. So let’s make them both bi. And have above friend of Archie killed, also be his bf. Actually let’s have Herry join the bi team too just like his ancestor.

Side side note: Neil is gay. I mean I think it’s practical canon in the series, but here he’s definitely gay. Even though the first man he loves is himself.

Season two will have the kids feeling more cocky about saving the world. They feel more prepared yet after having officially saved it the first time, there’s a bit more reluctance this time around. Like they want to be ready yet it’s also getting irritating that all the former enemies of the gods are coming into town to settle their beefs, and the teens are sent off to fight the battles for the gods. Like it’s never ending, and they don’t get to rest on their laurels before the next scheme from Cronus.

If the former season is the teens facing their insecurities about becoming heroes, this will be the season of them facing their flaws.

Jay, and Theresa will be the ones with the season long arc. Jay in feeling that he’s a failure of a leader will become more obsessed, doubling down on training like we saw in Cronus 2.0. Let’s also have him feel like he’s a failure as a son too in Mother Knows Best, feeling conflicted that there’s so much of his life he no longer shares with her. Theresa is becoming more involved in her psychic training, but as her powers prove complicated and unreliable, she becomes more resentful of the responsibility leading to the events of the finale.

This can tie to Theseus and how he was quite power hungry in the original myths, like having royal lineage wasn’t enough, he wanted divine lineage and his whole life was about proving himself to be the best. So that could be another flaw for her, she likes the powers but hates not being able to control it so she seeks out more like that’ll solve the problem.

The other teens also become resentful of having to fight the gods’ battles for them or deal with the ugly aftermath of their ancestor’s actions like Archie vs Salamander, Neil and Echo, and so on. I’d have the teens also embody a few flaws of their ancestors too. Odie becomes more overconfident of his cleverness like in Cronus 2.0 and Cronus’ Keystroke. Herry needs to rely more on his brains than his brawn like he learned in Labor Day. Archie would face true fear like in Nothing to Fear But Fear Itself.

I feel like Atlanta’s choice between Pan and her duties as a hero in Pandemonium would have more weight in if it wasn’t just about leaving Archie. Pan’s offer to go around helping the rainforest and nature speaks to Atlanta missing her old life and her old passion like eco-protection so that would be more of an internal battle for her.

The final season would be the uncertain aftermath of the prophecy is fulfilled but Cronus is still at large. Herry and Atlanta will take on the season long arc this time. But just as Neil gets a new weapon and Theresa her powers, I want all the teens upgraded in some way.

Herry feels like he can’t prepare for the future with Cronus hanging over their heads and feels too uncertain of who he wants to be. He’d thought being strong was enough, but after getting a taste of saving the world he doesn’t know who he is without it. Not to mention Granny’s tough but she’s not going to be around forever and he doesn’t know how to handle that.

Atlanta has the opposite problem of knowing what she wants to do, but because of all the Cronus missions, she’s fallen behind in school, internships and other opportunities and feels pressured. At the end both want the same thing. Herry wants time to stop so he won’t face the future. Atlanta wants time to stop so she can catch up.

This season would be the teens facing their dreams and who they want to be when they officially defeat Cronus and wrap up where they all end. A graduation year season if you will of them seizing their destinies. Such as Odie fulfilling a high school bucket list. Neil realizing he will soon be out of his prime at the tender age of eighteen and having to think of another career (acting, naturally). Archie is more lax than Herry about choosing his future so he’ll be episode to episode exploring different options. Have Jay and Theresa bristle against their parents’ expectations for their future and maybe get into a few realistic conflicts like their class difference (Theresa is too flippant spending money, Jay boards his savings and doesn’t enjoy them), but more importantly have them go on dates.

And yeah. I know it’s a pretty long post but I was inspired which is probably the best sign of a good show. It makes you enjoy the characters, the world and inspires you to want more.

I always loved April as christian representation because she is a christian but is so kind (and I also headcanon that she has very complex feelings about christianity and the struggle against god. I can see her partly deconstructing.)

Jackson is really good at crosswords and April is so fucking pissed at him for it

April (with Jackson's consent) yells at Jackson's dad for being terrible and Jackson becomes weird best friends with April's dad. They drink beer and listen to country songs and talk about, like, spirituality and god and soccer games and cherry pie recipes. Jackson learns how to drive a tractor and he meets Jackson, the pig April named after him, which the Kepners refuse to kill because HE IS NAMED A HUMAN NAME.

They also talk about April's embarrassing cute childhood (Jackson has 65353 pictures on his phone) and Jackson ALSO yells at April's family for making her feel embarrassed. Kids with disabilities and braces don't need to be shamed and mocked.

Jackson becomes friends with April's dad because he gets to have a dad (well, aside from Webber, who is also a nice dad figure) who loves him for HIM :'))))))))))))))

it's very healing and wonderful. he totally cries on mr. kepner's flannel shirt.
