Introducing ✨Friday Fic Recs✨

The Ladies of HP fest/server is happy to announce weekly fic recs from now until next year's fest. Every Friday, we will highlight 5-10 female-centric fics! This week, the recs come from your mods, @celestemagnoliathewriter, @artemisia-black, and @merlins-sequined-hotpants.

Going forward, we would love to receive recs in the ask box or in the rec channel on our Discord server. Almost any fic that is female-centric is welcome (exception: fics that feature explicit underage sexual content). We look forward to sharing more recs with you!

She likes being busy, and as the last of her children leave for Hogwarts, Molly never even entertains the idea of staying at home with no company but her own. She needs a job.

Ariadne by @ashesandhackles. Leading lady: Cho Chang. G, 1.1k words. Summary: Exploring Cho's feelings for Harry in wake of her grief for Cedric's death, with symbolism from myth of Ariadne, Theseus and the Minotaur. A surrealistic character study.

To Do A Weasley

Status: Complete

Wordcount: 20k

Rating: Teen

The Weasley twins start their final seventh year at Hogwarts with Umbridge as the High Inquisitor. We see their camaraderie with Gryffindor peers, day to day school struggles and new romantic interests.

The author captured the romance between Lee and George in a very realistic way with a doses of silliness, awkwardness and curiosity so common for teenage love. We also get the sense of standing on a threshold to a new adult life chapter and the protagonist cherishing last fleeting moments of unburdened childhood still relatively free of open conflict.

The author does not moralize or pass judgement, the 7th year Gryffindors choose different coping strategies with the twins leaving the schools as rebels set against the ministry or Lee keeping his head down and documenting others' experiences for future journalistic use. No matter the choice, the friends always watch their backs for each other is it in pranking or after care few snogging.

A very well written novel with a healthy doses of humor

1. A post-canon fic

The Discreet Gentleman's Connection by pluto (gayrights420) [Drarry, E, 80.4k] 🌼🔥 I had the absolute pleasure of beta-ing for this fic, so when I say it is amazing, it truly is just that. Fast burn on the smut via Floo sex, slow burn on the in-person falling in love. Satisfying in all the best possible ways.

2. A fic that made me laugh

AITA for being "obsessed" with my childhood nemesis? by @rainstormradish [Drarry, M, 4.3k] 🌼📲 Draco on a reddit forum is hilarious just on its own, but the banter and formatting really bring this fic to life. Amazingly creative, had me in stitches!

3. A comfort fic

The Eighth Tale by @letteredlettered [Drarry, E, 12.0k] 💔⏳ An oldie but a goodie. I constantly find myself coming back to this fic and having my mind blown every single time. Time travel timey-wimey angst.

4. A fic with art

Dating Draco - A Visual Game by @itsphantasmagoria [Drarry, M, Video Game] 🌼🎮 This is a fic in video game form!! Amazing art and lovely story where YOU get to make the choices for Drarry's happily ever after.

The Journal of Dreadful Things by @lilbeanz [Drarry, G, 112k, WIP] 🌼📖 Hilarious, witty, AND COMES WITH ART!! Lilbeanz draws and writes a wonderfully delightful series starting from Draco's First Year. His characterization had me in hysterics. Book 4 is starting soon!

Moonstruck by @prettyremus [Wolfstar, E, 3.8k] 🔥🐺 Found this gem while scrolling through the werewolf smut tag (don't judge me). I love the switch in dynamic with Sirius taming Remus's wolf through, ahem, rough sex.

7. An unreliable narrator fic

Sea of White by @dividawrites [Harrymort, E, 8.6k] 🔥🤍 Deliciously hot, creepy, and strangely sweet. Love their dynamic here, the unrestrained lust. Harrymort "die" and lose their memories, so, of course, then they bang.

8. A fic that made me cry

Far Apart, Far Away by @unmistakablyoatmeal [Hinny, minor Drarry, T, 1.6k] 💔💍 Infidelity angst has never been this good. I love the layers of emotion in this fic. Quick punchy sections that really pulled me in.

9. A Muggle(?) AU fic

Pleasant Hope by @ac1d6urn, @sinick [Snarry, E, 41.6k] 💔⛪️ Pastor Severus!! The angst, pining, and self-discovery in this fic is superb! I love the interwoven magic and detailed world-building of this little town.

The Last Trial of Peter Pettigrew by @sleepstxtic [Prongstail, M, 20.8k] 💔 🐀 Holy moly, this fic!!!! Is this my new favorite fic?? Possibly. The concept is brilliant, so creative and nuanced. The Peter character study using outsider perspectives is genius. Seamlessly balances canon and new scenes.

11. A pre-canon fic

Careless by @tax-onomic [Luther, E, 1.5k] 🔥🪞 Lucius/Arthur my beloved rare pair!! I am captain of the Luther ship, and Tax's fic hits all the right spots. The pining, the sniping, the prickly personalities with emotional vulnerability underneath! And all in the middle of a hot smut scene. Perfect.

12. A canon-compliant fic

Scottish by thepadfoots [Chedric, G, 749] 💔🌟 Lovely Cho character study focused around her Asian identity and the boy she loved.

13. A fic rated G (more like T though)

Lion-Hearted Girl by MinnieQuill (odainath) [Minmione, G, 4.5k] 💔🦁 I know the large age gap might scare some, but their relationship feels very organic in this fic. The setting is grim, but there is always hope in the darkness!

14. A fic rated T

You're So Vane by @patriceavril [Romelina, T, 6.8k] 🌼💄Romilda is so delightfully characterized, I was smiling through the entire fic. Angelina is the perfect foil (and love interest) to Romilda's attentions.

15. A rare pair fic (less than 2000 fics on AO3)

Snakeskin by @cntrl15 [Bellastoria, E, 3.7k] 🔥👠 Talk about a rare pair! Astoria/Bellatrix only has 2 tagged fics on AO3: this fic and the drabble I wrote based on it. But read this fic, and you'll see why I felt the need to write more in this universe.

16. A fest fic

Master of None by @nanneramma [Snormac, G, 5.5k] 🌼🧘 Severus is so wonderfully cranky, and Cormac is fine AF. The surprise pairing of 2023 that I never knew I needed and now I'm obsessed with!

17. An under-rated fic

Sun, Shadow, Shade by @naomijameston [Snuna, G, 700] 🌼☀️ Post-war fluff. Sunshine Luna is the perfect match for sullen Snape. A short and sweet fic for this underrated ship.

18. A canon-divergent fic

but somebody's gotta do it by nocturn [Pangulus, T, 920] 😄🧟‍♂️ This fic will make you say WTF but also huh, okay that totally works. The concept is WILD but Lyra executes it wonderfully. Pansy drags Regulus out of the inferi lake and they flirt a little while he gets de-corpsified lol.

19. A dark fic

In his embrace by @loneamaryllis [Snarrymort, het!Snarry, E, 48k] ⚡️👀 Dark and dirty but so so good. A Voldemort Wins AU where fem!Harry is taken as prisoner. Snape's mindset as he tries to save her (and is forced to rape her) is so twisted and mesmerizing. Mind the tags!

20. A thought-provoking fic

Icarus by @thistlecatfics [Millvansy, M, 20.0k] 💔🍾 War trauma, addiction, codependency! This fic is messy with emotions but has a strong, beating heart underneath. I am in love with Parvati as she deals with Pansy's addiction and Millicent's denial — three beautiful, imperfect girls.

21. A holiday fic

A Time, Dark and Divine by @moonflower-rose [Dronarry, E, 17.0k] 🔥⛱ HOLY FREAKING FUCK!! The sexual tension in this fic is off the freaking charts. Drarry seducing Ron while on vacation in Portugal. Sign me the fuck up!

Through the Middlegame by @sandervansunshine [Astoria & Peter, T, 6.6k] 💔♜ Devastating, heart-wrenching, tragic. 10000% would recommend. Kylee has already heard me screaming in the servers about this fic. If I could get a fic tattooed straight onto my brain, this would be it.

In the twelve years after the war, Harry attends sixteen weddings. As friends and acquaintances vow their lives to one another, he watches quietly from the sidelines. Step by step, Harry pieces himself back together, builds a life from the wreckage of his past and falls, slowly and thoroughly, for Draco Malfoy. A story told in sixteen parts, of patient and transformative love, of queerness, of reaching out and holding on. Featuring plenty of pining, Gilderoy Lockhart getting married in a fever dream of glitter and product placement, and Rita Skeeter spitting a steady stream of venom at Harry and Draco's every move.

“Perhaps this was how much of Divination worked. Showing you something you wanted, or didn't want, and urging you along a path. Sitting in the freezing ground on a Bulgarian mountain as the sun commenced its journey up the sky, Harry made a decision. He would get to know someone, the way he knew Ron and Hermione. Better, even, if he was capable of that. It was evident, really, who he wanted that person to be - and Padma seemed to approve. It had to be Draco Malfoy.”

Since I’ve been talking and getting asks about my most recent read I’ve decided this would be a good opportunity to write a brand new rec, and hopefully send more people on their way to this story. I’ve been in the mood for longer fics lately but it’s getting harder and harder to binge anything over 30k, so instead of pressuring myself to rush through it I’ve decided to take my sweet time and embrace the experience over the past week.

Curiously, I found this fic thanks to the author herself! We bonded over our shared interest in a niche fic kink (isn’t that how it always starts!) and she mentioned that earlier this year she published her first fic, one she was very proud of. Naturally I had to ask for a link to check it out and I’m so happy that I did. This story is a long, aching and deeply emotional love letter to Harry, carefully exploring his trauma and post-war struggles in such a compassionate way it gave me a lump in the throat. From dealing with his childhood abuse and a general lack of sense of purpose after the war, to coming to terms with his fame and sexuality to finally allowing himself to be happy and fulfill his resolution: getting to know someone, deeply. I love how that scene puts everything into motion, giving the fic a magical and serendipitous tone that helped me get through the angsty slow burn knowing that Drarry was more than endgame, it was inevitable. The tea leaves willed so!!!!

We follow Harry’s melancholy and introspective POV for about 12 years, each one marked by a different wedding he attends. There’s this weary wistfulness about the way he sees things that really touched me, as he struggles to find his place and pines on for Draco. We celebrate the friends and acquaintances we get to know through his eyes, one wedding at a time - and what a fantastic cast! I especially loved seeing more of Angelina as she’s not usually explored in fic. From Blaise’s to Lockhart’s to Ron’s to Hagrid’s, each wedding ceremony offers a new setting for Harry’s self-reflection and advances the Drarry agenda offering him new ways to get to know Draco and himself. They don’t always meet or talk but Draco’s always at the back of his mind, even before the resolution is made, and I found that quite romantic!

I wasn’t expecting this fic to span over so many years but instead of never-ending pain where you don’t quite understand why they can’t kiss and make out already, Harry’s pining is soft and tentative; it allows him to grow, explore his own sexuality and learn how to be comfortable in his own skin before reaching out to Draco. Despite being unavailable for some time, we don’t really need Draco’s POV to know he’s aching for Harry just as desperately. But we do get a glimpse of his mind through their correspondence, which is how they actually fall in love.

Watching their friendship blossom through the letters made me so soft and happy I didn’t want it to end. I think that was my favourite chapter and and I’m not even that much of an epistolary enthusiast! But their written exchanges create the most delicious anticipation and oh, when they finally get together they’re both so sure and devoted to each other it feels earned and right. I love how the fic paces the progression of Harry’s initial obsession towards a calmer, reserved and patient love. Just like he wished many years before, he gets to know someone deeply: this reformed and fascinating tea shop owner Draco, who adores his mom, is there for his friends, says Harry’s name with adoration and has a fondness for flowers and owls 🥹

If you’re looking for a cathartic pining!Harry journey, with gentle slow burn and satisfying payoff - the endearments! the smut! be still my heart - this long fic is an absolute treat. Check it out today then let’s get started on @mallstars’s new time loop wip!

I wrote this for Weasley Fest and I had the best time with it! I related to Bill a lot more than I thought I would as I was writing him, and I loved putting my own spin on Fleur.

Life's a Witch - Ginny centric, T

Another fest contribution! I wrote this for @hp-12monthsofmagic, which is still going on if anyone is interested! I saw the prompt and immediately thought of Ginny and being pushed out of Quidditch and how she might handle that. So, this little one-shot was born.

Uncharted Territory - George/Angelina, M

The fic that brought me back to the fandom. (@harryissuchalittleshit can take credit for this as well.) At the beginning of this year, I decided I wanted to get into writing more. I saw some prompts for fluffuary, and I said, ok, you're going to write at least a thousand words every day for a month. If you do that and you don't want to write anymore, then you can quit again. I didn't quit again and I'm so happy about that.

your heart was glass, i dropped it - Draco/Astoria, T

I love the way this fic turned out. I just loved building out pureblood society and pretending that I was there with Astoria as she was in Venice. Like who doesn't want to just jet off to Italy when the chance comes? I also really liked the character development that took place in this fic. It's just one that I'm really proud of.

Reunion is Sweet - Katie/Oliver, T

This is an older fix and honestly, it was just so much fun to write. The OG Quidditch team (minus Fred) are in it and there's laughter and drama and romance and drinking. It was a riot to say the least.

“Hey girls,” Katie said as she threw herself between Angelina and Alicia on the pillows on the floor, only to find out she miscalculated and the pillow didn’t cover the entire space. “That will hurt in the morning,” she moaned as the other girls laughed.

“Serves you right for acting as if you’re cooler than us,” Alicia mocked, laughing when Katie tickled her in return.

“I’ve been thinking,” Angelina started, stopping her train of thought till the other girls turned their attention to her, which didn’t take long. “The next match will be Oliver’s last, what if we pull off a practical joke?”

“I love it,” Alicia said rather loudly, seeing as they were still in the common room and they weren’t alone.

“Why don’t you say it a little louder in case Oliver didn’t hear it,” Katie teased, but luckily nobody reacted to their discussion.

“Shut up,” Alicia laughed back. “So any ideas?”

Angelina wanted to say she had the perfect plan, but she didn’t. “I’m sure he expects something from the twins, so we could use that to our advantage, he would never expect the three musketeers.”

oh my god! this is such a nice ask, and i've had a v bad day so far so i'm going to take a moment to let myself cheer up with some self-love <3

the quidditch fic herself!! heaven knows i've tried – maaaybe this is the recency bias talking, but this is some of the most fun i've ever had writing a fic. it's also my first au fic, and combines so many of the things i love so much! (hinny, the first season of ted lasso, roy kent, banter, quidditch... need i go on?) i also ADORED getting to brainstorm this fic with @solongdaisymayy and @starlingflight this is a universe i adore, and one i'm REALLY looking forward to returning to

laugh with me (buddy) – i HAD to include this one <3 so much of my own grief and my own feelings made it to this fic, and writing it got me through a very tough time in my life. it was also just my first foray into george/angelina, and that is a love story that has endured!

all the pieces fall – my scorbus getting-back-together fic! i love next-gen, i love the potter siblings, i love writing about gavin sinclair being a twat, and i love scorbus. this entire fic was a win for me, personally

noble and most ancient – or, my oneshot about how sirius black came to run away from his house. i remember talking about this fic with @ashesandhackles for a couple weeks before i finally came around to writing it, and the fun memories of that alone mean it has to be in the top five!

funny story – this is a george/angelina oneshot i forgot i wrote until two days ago (once again: recency bias) but... it was fun and i enjoyed writing it!

“To my dad?” Angelina says, growing increasingly confused. “What on earth is this, is it going to transform my dad into a bird or something?”

“No, no. It’s not a Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes product. It’s a – well, it’s a sort of blanket,” George explains. “It’s enchanted to adjust to the body weight of whoever puts it on. It’ll feel like something’s pressing down on him, might help with the pain. I spoke to old Janice about it, she said that it definitely won’t hurt, even if it doesn’t help.” He looks a bit nervous, which is an odd look on him. Angelina doesn’t know if she’s ever seen him look nervous before: not during their OWLs, not during particularly difficult Quidditch matches, not ever.

“You… you made my father a magical blanket?” Angelina says. Her eyes are starting to prickle with tears.

“Well, it’s only a working prototype, and I’m definitely not going to call it a magical blanket, that’ll sound daft—”

But he can’t say anything else, because Angelina throws herself into his arms, dropping the blanket in the process, and flings her arms around his neck, hugging him as tightly as she can. After a moment, she feels him pat her back, and then his arms wrap around her, too, hugging her back just as tightly.

This was difficult since i feel like alot of what i read falls into this category so i wasn't really sure where to start

in the end this was the one i ended up choosing because it's just really sweet and i love when the next gen kids end up protective of Percy like just in general.
