An animated film adaptation of the Stray is in the works at Annapurna Animation.
"This is a game that's all about what makes us human, and there are no humans in it," he says. "It's a buddy comedy about a cat and a robot, and there's such a hilarious dynamic. So, there's comedy inherent in this, but there's not one human being in this movie. I think it's one of the reasons why the game was incredibly popular, that you are seeing the world through the point of view of an adorable cat. How did they pull that off, and how are we going to pull that off in the movie? We will, even though sometimes it feels impossible, but we know that's the essence of the game and the key to telling the story." Baird went on to say that there's "something so emotional" that the creators are trying to capture when adapting the game to film. BlueTwelve, he explains, described the game as having a "sort of 'hopepunk' vibe," a narrative concept that optimism is a form of resistance. "I love that term, hopepunk," he says. "I think, if we are going to do this adaptation justice, this is going to be the first and greatest hopepunk movie that's ever been made."

Annapurna Animation is developing an adaptation of the video game STRAY, the company announced.
The company, a division of Annapurna Pictures, also plans to adapt more titles from video game publisher Annapurna Interactive‘s extensive library.
The news comes as part of a larger announcement that Annapurna Animation is ramping up its creative leadership team and feature slate.
NIOMONA director Nick Bruno, industry veteran and NIMONA producer Julie Zackary, and Erica Pulcini have all joined Annapurna Animation. Zackary, a former Blue Sky Studios executive, will act as Annapurna Animation’s head of animation production. Pulcini will act as creative executive and help curate, develop, and further define Annapurna Animation’s feature film slate.
Bruno will develop an direct an untitled original feature film, and is actively developing several new original ideas under Annapurna Interactive.
FOO, the new project from director Chris Wedge, is also in development. Wedge wrote and directed Blue Sky Animation’s Bunny in 1998, before going on to direct Ice Age in 2002.

Nah but how awesome and fitting would it be if Annapurna Animation took hold of that Peanuts Movie sequel we've seen concept art of and finished it there? :D

Nimona was so good ya'll. So absolutely queer, fun, and punk from start to finish and a true champion of all underdogs both in the story and its entire progress of fighting with fangs, claws, and pure grit to survive their entire studio being shut down, Disney killing the film for it's LGBT themes despite being 70% complete, then fighting back to gain a new studio and finally have this great story see the light of day. Congrats to all the Nimona team!

I’ve been wanting to share this for a while now, but here you go. Here are my first drawings of Nimona, Ballister and Ambrosius from… well, Nimona. It took me about a month to finish these drawings after already wanting to draw them a full month after watching the movie but I’m glad I finally did and finished these drawing before I color them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think the hardest part of finishing these drawings for me though was finding the right references for the details on their clothing and armor. For some reason I had a really hard time finding decent scene references to add details on them, especially Ballister’s prosthetic arm and the details on it from the shape, to the wires in it and to the light on it (though that can also be because of the movie’s cel shaded animation style really messing with my eyes), and I heavily debated on if I should draw Ambrosius’s normal or lion shoulder pads, until I ultimately decided to draw his normal shoulder pads.
Here's some pictures to show what I mean about Ballister's arm with some arrows to highlight it, and I guess a showcase of how much the lighting and texture on characters tends to shift in the lighting of the movie, and again, because of the cel shaded style of the movie.

But ultimately, I’m still extremely happy with how my drawings came out. What do you guys think?
