hi! i always love your MDZS/CQL takes; can i ask what are the questions you think CQL is asking, as compared to MDZS?
I haven't actually revisited either canon in ages, which is making me nervous. what questions the novel is interested in can be pretty contentious all on its own! @mikkeneko has an excellent answer in the notes here which I reccomend to everyone. My own thoughts are honestly pretty scattered- I keep on deleting things and going hm, that's not quite right.
So, for the obvious-to-me example, people reasonably zero in on the creation of innocent doctors/radish farmers who Wen Ruohan is holding hostage. In CQL it's easy to infer that Wen Qing and Wen Ning are maybe the only cultivators and almost certainly the only combatants among the Wen remnants, and their status is much more ambiguous in the novel, which I personally think is asking, essentially, "and so what? were they wrong to run, when they had a chance? Do they deserve what Jin Guangshan will do to them if they go back? Aren't they just people, actually?" Whereas the question that CQL is asking is more to the effect of "What does Wen Qing owe these people, when she is their only defence? What is she entitled to do to save them, at other people's expense? If she fucks up that moral calculus, what then? Does it matter if she's personally fond of some of the outsiders who are going to get hurt? If one of them saved her brother? Later, this question will flip to what Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng, and the parallel to Jiang Cheng's situation in particular is, I think, genuinely pretty fun. You're giving up the Wen as soldiers who've laid down their arms in exchange for Wen Qing also grappling with leadership and the question of how many horrors she can stand to look the other way on to protect her own people. one reason I keep deleting so much is that a lot cql's changes were motivated at least in part by censorship, which I think we mostly share a general and justified distaste for! but I also think that within the bounds of that censorship the creative team put a lot of work into actually doing something interesting with those changes. Or, for another example- nieyao! There's a much greater emphasis on the nmj-jgy relationship, it's unambiguously very close and they are clearly extremely important to one another, and I think that's because the cql team has a lot to say about love, trust, power, and the ways those things interact, and that reflects back on all of the other relationships in play, including Wangxian. Almost every time, when CQL chooses change a relationship they make the characters in question closer- that's true for Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji, for Wen Qing and the Yunmeng contingent, for Zixuan and Mianmian, and Huaisang and Meng Yao. It's even true for Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian, who have a close and trusting relationship in first life! CQL puts a much greater emphasis on "all right, so you care, what next?" How do you choose someone and then choose to be good to them? What if there's a massive power disparity between you? What if you seriously disagree about your priorities and morals? How do you trust someone who's betrayed you? When is it a stupid choice to trust at all? How do you have faith that you know someone well enough for that trust to be meaningful?
for legal reasons i would like to specify that it's not that mdzs isn't interested in these problems. i do remember wangxian's literal trust fall. cql is asking these questions all the time about everyone. also for legal purposes i'm not suggesting that cql lwj and jc love each other. but! they establish a three month wartime partnership looking for wwx and then jc immediately drops him on wwx's say-so despite apparently having a positive enough opinion of him to tell wwx he thinks they should make up twice. lan wangji will later tell wwx he thinks he should loop jc in on the second flautist! these are people trying to navigate some kind of relationship/shared interest/community, as opposed to a hateful void. cql wants to say hey, how do you go about this? while I'm here and rambling cql also puts a lot of emphasis on wwx's connection to yunmeng and changes things up so instead of feeling alienated right before he leaves our last glimpse of him there is happily picking lotuses and playing with a kid! in both stories the narrative is asking who do you protect? who do you leave behind? can you ever get it back? but the angles are very different.

I'll complain about this until the end of time, but I cannot stand the characterization of nico listening to emo music. please give this kid some metal to listen to, if you wanna keep the silly level of darkness that people try giving him with emo music let him listen to some pretentious black metal or something, but there's no way in hell nico would listen to fucking fall out boy
I respect you anon but I am so sorry, I am the exact opposite.
I love the idea of Nico listening to normie emo music cause it's just easiest to find and he's technologically challenged and also he almost definitely got into it because Thalia handed him her ipod one time when he was 10 to get him to shut up for 5 minutes and he ended up binging MCR's entire discography. Also, he's too nice to be pretentious about anything and he's a huge nerd. All that + Rick saying Nico likes technopop, Nico definitely has like a solid couple hundred plays of Rolling Girl on his probably stolen ipod and if you hit shuffle it's a weird combo of emo hits of the early 2010s, Porter Robinson and Mika, and anime OP jumpscares. If circumstances were slightly different he'd be a scene kid.

🔥 the tea is scalding hot
Send me a “ 🔥 “ for an unpopular opinion. Accepting!
Tumblr media
So. I asked you what you wanted me to talk about. You told me to talk about my opinions on research on POC cultures within the RPC, or rather the lack thereof.
Tumblr media
Ohhhhhh my fucking god.
I could go into this for genuine hours, but thankfully I already have! This was from eight months ago in my OTHER fandom. A lot of the points I want to make are already in here, but the long and short of it is that there is an inherent and chronic lack of research and respect when it comes to POC culture in the RPC, especially from western members of the community. This includes the bastardization of Native American and African cultures, orientalism, general fetishization of POC culture. And the two most common excuses I've seen to not educate oneself are "I'm too afraid to be wrong or looking stupid," or "I don't know how to respond or engage in a way that's respectful."
Fucking bullshit. Both of these are weak and pathetic excuses. Are you an adult? Do you know how to use the internet? Then you know how to ask questions or do research. This isn't about your ego. Grow the fuck up!
Research into cultures you are unfamiliar with is a NECESSITY when it comes to roleplay. There's no fucking excuse when you have information literally at your fingertips.
Putting the rest under a readmore bc this goes into personal experiences of mine that are simply ~unpleasant~
Oh and it gets worse because! I've been a direct victim of the fetishization of East Asian culture! The disrespect some people have and the blatant unawareness of what they're doing is absolutely fucking insane! I've been forced to come to terms with the fact that there are some people who will never ever learn no matter how much you try to educate them and correct them, and they are worth less than the gum on my shoe.
Tumblr media
This was an actual honest to god ask I got on one of my other blogs!!!!! Do you see! The lack of consideration or simple RESPECT to even fucking double check what they were even doing!!!!
For context, this was an anon that I'd been bothered by for MONTHS UNENDINGLY at this point, starting from before December 2021, and NO amount of gentle correction/education, requests to stop, to straight up begging or deleting asks stopped it. I don't want to go into the details but I genuinely did all I could. It got to the point where someone else made a burner account to whiteknight and attack someone unrelated out of an ASSUMPTION that they were the one at fault.
This is the worst kind of weeb shit and that anon ended up going to my RP partners and doing the same shit to them. BY THE WAY THIS WASN'T THE ONLY INSTANCE OF THEM DOING THIS THEY DID IT TO MY JAPANESE WAR MACHINE MUSES TOO. CONSTANTLY ASKING MY MUSES ABOUT THEIR "OTOU-SAN" (they didn't see their creator as a father figure) OR IF THEY DID MUNDANE HUMAN THINGS OR CELEBRATE??? AT CERTAIN FESTIVALS???? GLOBALLY WANTED ROBOT CRIMINALS???????????? ARE YOU DAFT?????????????????????????? They projected their takes onto my muses SO FUCKING BAD WITHOUT ANY RESPECT OR CONSIDERATION FOR MY INTERPRETATIONS I'M 💀
Where was I going with this I got so mad uhhh
Anyway. TLDR: people???? (especially white people) simply DO NOT do proper and respectful research on cultures that aren't theirs, and the worst of it is blatant fetishization like I received, and the least of it is cowardly avoidance out of weak excuses, and that GRAVELY needs to change. I'm lucky enough that I haven't bore witness to it in this rp sphere yet, but either way I'm sick and tired of having to advocate for the most basic respect of my people and others' cultures.

Hi, Pia....
So, I used to love shounen and shoujo manga equally, also (het) romance stories from various books. But ever since I found BL manga & danmei books, 3 years ago, my interest in shoujosei (especially het romance) decrese a lot, and what I search for is just the dynamic between mc (male) and male lead. I don't want to read mc (female) and male lead or mc (male) and female lead. Like I become fed up with m/f pairings. And what I want to read mostly are just mlm or wlw stories....
What do you think is happening to me? Is it really weird?
I don't think it's weird at all!
It's normal for people's tastes to change over time for a lot of different reasons. For example a lot of people love m/m because they're just less likely to find certain tropes there than they are in heterosexual romances.
And because of that, they feel more drawn to m/m because they can escape certain strictures of heteronormativity (even though aspects are present) that can allow relationships and characters to be presented differently!
Things like this can cause readers - regardless of their sexuality or gender - to gravitate towards certain genders or sexualities in romance and it's not necessarily a commentary on who they are, but on the tropes they love to read, and the tropes they want to avoid.
It's good to reflect or think about what you might be noticing as the differences between the things you love and the things you're gaining distance from. When I was younger I read a lot of Mills & Boon romance, back when there was a lot of dubcon in it. I literally didn't have other options at the time, the internet didn't really exist.
When I started getting other options I was realising for the first time that hundreds upon hundreds of new tropes, or new ways of writing old tropes and themes, existed, and I got to make more choices, more freely.
You might find it's the same! Especially if you're younger, or especially if you're just discovering these tropes and themes now.
There's so, so many reasons to be drawn to certain pairings, and sometimes sitting down and non-judgmentally reflecting on that can be really helpful. The non-judgmental part is important.
One day you might drift away from what you love now and love something else more instead! It's really really normal for many people to go through different phases not just in genre, but in all sorts of things! I have been obsessed with BL again for the last two years, but I spent like three years not reading it much at all, and reading a lot of nonfiction instead. Where our minds and our desires and our thoughts take us, often show that we're growing or changing as people, picking up a lot of different tales and narratives on the way.
Honestly that's cool, it's not weird at all

The first night of Closing shift must have been too wild for Childe to decide to tempered with your memory. Or he was just sadist like this to see you all fool and happy running for a date with him totally oblivious of the mess he made of you some days/weeks before. I mean- Sure he's into weird thing. The demon was okay with playing happy courting for some time while eliminating concurence and making you freak out. And he's also into weird play. Like keeping you for moving, small blood kink, playing with the "Find out what I am, good answer and we continue to play, wrong answer and I making a mess out of you" like if he wasn't already in board for making a mess out of you tonight.
I also remember you mentionned in a previous ask that he choose to tempered with memories because reader was scared for life after the first night but I'm not sure...?
childe likes to think that he tampered with your memory because he wants to see your innocent fantasies be ripped away from him again and again, and maybe that was a part of the reason he did that. maybe he does want to see you panic and question what he's doing before eventually letting him do what he wants when you realise he won't stop and that it actually feels good (or does sometimes).
you're right about that anon. considering the weird things childe had done and considering that reader was freaked out, he hates to admit it but it's true. had he not done what he did, the next time reader saw him, she would've doubled down and started bawling. or gone to therapy first thing. how else are you supposed to cope with a guy who has teeth and nails sharp enough to carve out your heart from your chest and keeps 'jokingly' saying that he wants to keep you chained to his bed so that he can taste you whenever he wants?
and that's not all that had happened. keeping in mind how he was all sweet and sugary, the difference in attitudes was a whiplash that would have made her run first thing after seeing him again. so why let that happen when he can just... make you forget <3
besides. seeing you give a wrong answer to all 3 attempts he so graciously granted you before testing your extraordinary gag reflex is just too adorable for him not to do again :)

you really should take the matter over fictional content more seriously because one day you could actually really someone out there over what you think is just harmless fun
you might laugh right now but you won't find it so funny when you're dropped by a former friend over it :/
As I've once said to another anon, I rather not be pulled into this nonsense over fucking fiction. It's nothing but a very stupid shitstorm that should have NEVER gotten this bad in the first place.
And because I know there will be folks out there who will get on my case for this, no, just kindly fuck off and leave me alone. I refuse to be dragged into a shitstorm all because some folks out there want to throw a hissy fit at others enjoying ANY sort of fictional content that THEY find uncomfortable.
I said these before in another post and I shall say it again because I feel it's needed. Putting this under readmore tho cuz post getting rather long here.
It's okay to feel upset over certain fictional content & interests, but that does not mean it's okay for you to act as if those who enjoy said stuff are horrible people. You're allowed to feel however you want over certain content, but for fuck's sake please just use that block/mute/whatever and move on with your fucking life. No need to announce to the world how much this or that makes you uncomfortable okay.
It's YOUR job to curate your own internet experience, NOT US STRANGERS. Most of us will do our best to tag certain shit to make it easier for others to avoid content but the system here isn't perfect so stuff is bound to slip by regardless. But even then, it's still YOUR job to curate your own internet experience. Again, a lot of us fellow online folks will do our best to tag certain content to make this a little easier for you, but that doesn't mean it's our job to cater to you.
News flash people, everyone has trauma and everyone deals with it differently. You're allowed to feel however you want over with anything regarding your trauma but that does not give you the fucking right to act as if only YOUR experiences and how YOU deal with YOUR trauma is "right". What's that? Do you find how this or that person deals with their trauma to be really weird? Alright. That's okay. You think so-and-so doesn't count and that gives you the right to treat them however you want for it? Yeah no. You can fuck off with that mindset there.
Everyone is bound to unwittingly do something that will make you and others uncomfortable but that doesn't make them some horrible person. So please take a chill pill and not jump the gun so soon on others solely because of that. Not to say that you're not allowed to feel however you do but for fuck's sake 1) a lot of us are socially awkward folks who struggle with recognizing social cues and such and 2) it's not easy to read tone and such over text. :|
Alrighty. This is getting long enough as it is and uhm starting to get a bit tough to not go off completely here so just gonna stop.
But yeah. If you have a problem with any of this then go right ahead and hit that unfollow button there. You will not be missed. :)

Am I the only one who really hated the year where the "nobody asked thing" happened a ton? It was used against me a lot whenever I overshared and as an autistic person I have trouble regulating that so I just stopped talking at all.
YEAH IT'S SO RUDE AND FOR NO FUCKING REASON??????????????? one time someone said that exact thing to me and i had a panic attack and felt so horrible but now looking back on it....... yes! yes you DID ask!!! because you made a public post with an opinion and gave absolutely no instruction as to who you wanted to respond! this is on YOU! /nay anon
#🌌written in the stars ; asks🌌#im so sorry anon thats really sucky#u can overshare with me anytime and i wont be like that and im dead serious.#the way internet leftism practically requires you to be perfect is so fucking annoying#people act like if you aren't a part of a certain group that youre an asshole if you ever engage in convos about said group.#which is fucking RIDICULOUS!!#like for context#this person made a post sharing an opinion on unlearning racism. and i added my opinion because i too#am a person who has had to unlearn racism. what a shocker.#so i added on agreeing with their point and adding a little of my own insight.#and they responded saying they didnt ask for my white opinion and i needed to shut up#and its like. i understand and respect if you dont want white people interacting with your posts. but you DIDNT SAY THAT!#and sense you didnt i assumed that it was okay to add my opinion because THATS HOW HUMAN CONVERSATIONS WORK!!!!#it was perfectly normal for me to engage in a discussion on racism. i wasn't speaking on an issue i have no say in#i was simply talking about the importance of unlearning racism and doing the work because i have experience with that and its true.#this is true for all nuances and group dynamics im just talking about this rn#please dont get me wrong im not trying to undermine the importance of centering poc#and im not in any way trying to say that white people are always qualified to talk about racism or that we should always share our opinions#OR that poc are obligated to be nice to white people when they're disrespectful to them.#but my point is here that i was entirely within my lane#entirely respectful#but because i misinterpreted a social situation that was not at all clear i was suddenly the bad guy#and its infuriating because this has happened so many times. im not a bad person for getting shit wrong and its done so much and i mean SO#FUCKING#MUCH#harm to my mental health to think of myself as a failure because of my mistakes#it's just. ugh. stop

They lost a lot of fans after those allegations. The problem was the way they addressed those. Some of us do understand why people turned their back on them. You know, you can still be a fan and criticize them. Like the way, they had a fucking bra collection and allowed minors to be at their concerts. Jack may be innocent but that does not justify their rotten statement or the weird things that they did back in the day.
