"You're an outfit repeater" You're a byproduct of a capitalist, consumerist society that thrives off the mass exploitation of the underprivileged.

Just a silly reminder that u do NOT have to throw out ur favorite pants when u wear a hole in the thighs. This took me about 15 minutes (if that, idk exactly how long it was) to fix and I can't feel it when I wear the pants, nor can you see it when I have them on. I'll also link a video (it doesn't have added captions but I watched it through with YouTube's auto-generated captions and they seemed nearly exactly correct. And even without them you could probably learn it just from the visuals) about how to do the stitch I used below the cut and do a brief explanation of my process:}
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Backstitch tutorial:
https://youtu.be/sjHm8CL9WDA
Steps for mending:
1) Pin the patch to the inside of the hole-
I used safety pins because I find regular pins endlessly annoying. Since we'll be sewing from the front (you usually want to be looking at the side you want to be the neatest when you sew) you might find it helpful to hold your fabric up to the light and mark where the edges of the patch are, but I was able to figure out that sewing from end to end of the pins would keep me on the fabric.
2) Thread your needle-
I used crochet thread because that's what I had on hand. If you're using regular thread you might want to double it up so it's stronger. If you're mending something white or if you don't care whether the color matches, you can also use dental floss for something very strong. Here's a video on how to thread a needle (again with no official captions but good auto-generated ones)- https://youtu.be/S6u173Ap2mc If you want to use your thread as-is just tie a knot in the long end after threading. If you want it doubled up you can pull your needle to the center of the length of thread (so your tail and your working thread are equal lengths) and tie the two strands together to essentially create a big loop through the needle.
3) Backstitch around the edges of the patch (backstitch tutorial above) -
A backstitch isn't the only strong stitch you could use, but in my experience it's the easiest to learn and keep track of. You can also stitch across your patch in an X like I did, or in lines across it or on any other pattern you want. Your patch will be perfectly secure without these extra stitches, but I like to do them because they hold it flatter against the fabric.
4) Tie off your thread-
Video tutorial for this (same caption situation as the other videos) https://youtu.be/f3Hqv9n95R4
5) Done!!!-
That's it! Enjoy your newly repaired clothes and be free:}

sometimes i feel like a hipster cunt (derogatory) when i see people only liking mainstream things while beating down others with unique tastes or these endless debates over whether or not it’s pretentious to not like a certain things
i know i’m not special for liking stuff that has over 1k posts on a hashtag but those types of people have this country-club mindset, where if you don’t fit in you don’t get in
and i’m of the belief that all art has intent and something to learn, but there’s so much crap that’s just being churned out of get-famous-quick factories and everyone just defends it because they believe they could be next
you have to be a little strange to be good, faux vulnerability makes songs and books read like a middle schoolers attempt of Shakespeare. clothes shouldn’t feel like plastic, books shouldn’t just be torture porn for sad middle aged women, art shouldn’t be ai, and content shouldn’t be 1 min videos of horrible takes.

one of the best things you can do for yourself if you’ve got the time and ability is to learn to sew, specifically with clothing in mind.
anti fast-fashion & consumerism? learn to sew. wanting to make a battle jacket? learn to sew. need to repair a hole or reattach a button? learn to sew. starting pointe as a ballet student? learn to sew. into historical fashion? learn to sew. limited money but not wanting to support brands like shein? learn to sew. bored & wanting a new hobby? learn to fucking sew.
seriously. all it takes is practicing on old fabric with dental floss, if you really have to. at least learn a running stitch. capitalism may have us thinking we need to rely on brands for every little thing, but if we put our minds to it, we’re much more self-sufficient than that.

I got this awesome pin from the Edinburgh Fruit Market (if you haven’t been I highly recommend it!) and it very unfortunately broke so I mended it while I was at my Grandma’s house this morning ^^ I’m quite happy with it, it’s now going on my blazer for school :3

Here's my baby, she's a work in progress (shes been a WIP for like 6 years but thats how that shit goes) but I am so proud of her. I love her.
All patches either made by hand, obtained at shows or purchased at small businesses
I cant even tell you where most of the buttons have come from, I've been collecting those since I was like 13
Gotta put more on the back, but I also have to go through the process of making more patches.

To say "but they wouldn't be able to get an higher paying job" or "well the country is underdeveloped so it's normal" or even "they are doing a simple job, sewing isn't dangerous" when talking about how fast fashion ruined and is still ruining millions of people's life is insane.
"From an American or an European point of view we are surprised to see how those people make 2 dollars a day, but it's normal there" NO IT'S NOT.
The people there wash in unclean water, entire families of 6/7 people live in deranged houses that even if restored would be able to contain just two of them, they don't have good healthcare and their job certainly doesn't help help on that matter. They eat what they can provide which is NOT ENOUGH if you make 2 dollars a day!
Calling "accidents" things like the Rana Plaza collapse is even more insane. People that worked there already informed the factory owners of the bad conditions of their workplace, even the same day of the collapse.
Calling it an accident is also an insult to the 1134 people that lost their life while being crashed on by the building or suffocated by the absence of air. After 8 hours they were still finding corpses and also injured people, about 2500 people.
But why does this kind of things happen?
Because a shirt cost 5 dollars and there are a lot of people that desperately need a job. If a factory can't afford to produce a shirt for 5 dollars, be sure that another one will take that job. When the prices start to drop again a fast fashion brand needs to keep up with the competition. The factory, that will be payed less, needs to save money and eventually the owners will start caring less about the conditions of their workers and their workplace.
Rana Plaza was not the first or these events:
In 2012 the Alì Enterprises fire in Pakistan caused 289 deaths and the Dhaka factory caused 112 deaths the same year. To this day people are still suffering because of underpaid jobs and of dangerous workplaces. The danger that they have to experience also extends not only to the collapsing of the building, but to the chemicals in the air.
No human being should be living in those conditions and no human being should be able to blatantly ignore those people.
And this includes the people that keeps buying on shein and other sites like that one.
