A great commission drawn for me by @maddiedrawz of Linda Lee (aka Red Daughter from Supergirl) and my DC OC, Marcia Constantine. Marcia is the niece of John Constantine, a scientist and supporting character in my fic "A New Team (Done Right)". Which is an MCU crossover with DC (including Supergirl and Arrowverse, along with other DC continuities all on the same earth)
In the fic, Red Daughter/Linda survived the ordeal with Lex and started a new life, with friends and family and found love with Marcia. NOTE: The story is not friendly to Steve Rogers or Wanda Maximoff. Story Link: A New Team (Done Right) - Chapter 1 - iamgoku - Multifandom [Archive of Our Own]

I've said it once, I'll say it again, having Olivia Marsden be an alien born on another planet was a really, really dumb choice. Alien or not, she's not a natural born US citizen, and like it or not, that's the fucking law, and it needs to be followed. And her hiding it from everyone just gives fuel to every anti-Alien conspiracist anyway.
It's just a thoughtless decision made by writers who just wanted to have a twist,

X-Men is about civil rights. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get X-Men.
Black Panther is about civil rights. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Black Panther.
Captain America literally fought Nazis. He is the embodiment of fighting the alt-right. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Captain America.
The Empire in Star Wars is fascist. The Rebel alliance are Anti-Fascist. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Star Wars.
The Punisher isn’t meant to be a role model for police or armed forces. So much so that the writers of The Punisher made him actively speak out against it in a comic. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get The Punisher.
Deadpool is queer. He’s pansexual. Fact. If you didn’t get that you didn’t get Deadpool.
Star Trek is about equality for all genders, races and sexualities. As early as the mid-60s it was taking a pro-choice stance and defending women’s right to choose. One of its clearest themes is accepting different cultures and appearances and working together for peace. (It’s also anti-capitalist and pro-vegan). If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Star Trek.
Superman and Supergirl (and a whole host of other superheroes) are immigrants. The stance of those comics is pro-immigration and pro-equality and acceptance. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Superman or Supergirl.
Stan Lee said “Racism and bigotry are among the deadliest social ills plaguing the world today.” If you’re bigoted or racist, you didn’t get any of the characters Stan Lee created.
The stories we grew up with all taught us to value other people and cultures and to treasure the differences between us. Only villains were xenophobic, or sexist, or racist, or totalitarian. I can’t understand how anyone can have missed that.
If you’re upset that there’s a black Spider-Man, or a black Captain America, or a female Thor, or that Ms Marvel is Muslim, or that Captain Marvel was pro-feminism, or any of the other things right wing “fans” say is “stealing their childhood” - you never got it in the first place. The things you claim are now “pandering to the lefties” were never on your side to begin with.
If you consider yourself a fan of these things, but you still think the LGBTQ+ community is too “in your face”, or have a problem with Black Lives Matter, or want to “take the country back from immigrants”, then you’re not really a fan at all.
Geek culture isn’t suddenly left wing... it always was. You just grew up to be intolerant. You became the villain in the stories you used to love.

Supergirl Fandom
I feel like we need to talk.
I can't tell y'all how many comments I've been getting on my supercorp fics complaining about Alex. Ranging from small mentions saying that they didn't like Alex being involved in some scenes to some people straight up saying that Alex shouldn't have appeared in the first place.
Like,,, what the actual fuck??
First of all, negative comments on my works are not appreciated and are always immediately deleted. But secondly, what the fuck do y'all have against Alex. Cause I can understand wanting more supercorp content because we were straight-up robbed of it by the show.
But why are y'all taking it out on Alex?
Now, I understand I'm talking generally when Alex-antis are probably a small portion of the fandom, but honestly, I'm getting a little sick and tired of all the Alex hate. Especially in the comments of not only my works but in the comments of other writers' works as well.
Anyway, I guess this is my way of saying that once I'm back from my posting hiatus, I'm gonna be including Alex in my fics to an extremely annoying extent lol.
Like, look at this woman. How can y'all hate this cute little bean???

I was feeling sillay and my tism was acting up so i made this!
Tumblr media
This is me having fun, people with weird anti-selfship mentalities please just scroll past
Unlike most other sidekicks,Summer Kent wasn't introduced in a run of his mentor to be brought back later.Instead,he premired in his own series in 1983 with the writers purpose with him being to show what it would be like for Clark to take Bruce's route and adopt an orphan to raise them as both his own child and a protege. He gained what were called 'mixed reviews' but in reality was just a mix of love from black, latino, queer and autistic comic fans, female ones especially, and hatred from bigoted ones.Summer has gone through multiple, let's say,'seasonal changes' personality and design wise and this was made to help you read on when, how and why!
Sparks:Secret Origins-The solo series in question!43 solid issues,a great introduction into his character and let's you get a good grip on what he was like as Sparks,as well as his familial relathionships and longest running friendships
The New Teen Titans-A major recurring character in this run due to Dick and Kory's mentorship of him(be warned of secondhand embarrasment when it comes to his self-aware crush on Dick showing and him thinking he's just jealous of Kory when he's actually crushing on her too)
A Death in the Family-For the final interactions between him and Jason before Jason's death
The Last Day of Summer-His accidental death at the hands of Mr Freeze,DC's response to people saying Sparks and Robin don't work without eachother
Ember's Ashes-His ressurection and journey to herohood.70 issues of character development and not a single page was wasted as he grew from an angry, violent and gothic little girl to a bubbly and openly kind young adult with a love for femininity in a transgender way as he realized his genderfluidity. This coming of age tale includes his first relathionship with none other than Rose Wilson,Deathstroke's daughter and the fourth Ravager, which ends on odd but good terms.(See also Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen as they heavily overlap with this run, including him gaining his kryptonian name as 'Va-El',given to him by a newly ressurected Clark)
Steel(1994)-Same situation as NTT,him being mentored by the protagonist and appearing as a major supporting character as a result
Superboy(1994)-Summer trifels with his greatest battle yet:Being the oldest sister to a teenage boy.Hilarity, sibling and parental angst and bonding ensue in this series, along with Summer teaching Kon-El how to make his way in the world and beating up a couple of predators in the process and him giving him some Kryptonian hybrid powers tips in thanks. Here and in Ember's Ashes is when the rest of the Superkids(Chris/Lor-Zod,Mia/Cir-El and Jon Lane or 'Laney')join the Superfamilia
Young Justice(1998)-44 to 45 and 48 to 55.Pops up in World without Young Justice as otherworld Jason's s/o,a childhood friends to lovers hero/civillian romance, and the gang convinces Kon to get him to tag along as a 'dorky babysistter' as the Boy of Steel put it after seeing how strong he is in action. This is the first time Summer thinks about mentoring younger heroes other than his adoptive siblings
Robin(1993) and Batgirl(2000)-128 to 130 and 26-38 + 53-62.Summer said 'fuck Tim,Jason's MY Robin' before they even met and Stephanie didn't get any better off until them and Cass decided to team up and now they're girl best friends(actually platonic for them and Summer, the regular meaning for Stephcass)
Lost Days-He's on Jason's mind a lot during this run if Jaysumm is your thing
Supergirls-Starring the Superfam girls as an ensemble cast, this rotates between 'Girl Power media that's actually pretty feminist and fun' and 'Weird, weird and MORE weird'(and that adds on to the feminism and fun). This includes a special crossover issue where Summer and Mia get Cassie Sandsmark to re-embrace her butchness
Under The Red Hood-Sparks and Robin finally reunite but not like they expected!Summer is heartbroken at his best friend's new found darkness and wants to save him from it but Jason just wants to patch things up.And they both get what they want in:
Ember/Red Hood-World's...strangest...ROMANCE⁉We get to see this lovebird and loverfang take the first steps to finally getting together in this 29 issue wildride!Much romance, comedy, inner torment and rubbing off on eachother(not like that!!Mind out of the gutter, people!)gets done but sadly no actual kissing
Tiny Titans-Shows up pretty often thanks to being Superman's oldest kid and the second Superkid to debut in canon, usually as an mc and is in a comedic love square with Jason,Eddie and Rose as the center
We are Robin-3-9.Gets very close to the 12 year old Duke Thomas and to his gang to a lesser extent and is the reason he gets adopted by Bruce and made the official 5th Robin(Overlaps with Ember/Red Hood)
The Bird and The Dragon-Mini 13 issue series of him and Damian becoming found siblings and him Damian's first friend(Overlaps with Ember/Red Hood and Batgirl(2009))
Batgirl(2009)-Appears in every other issue so it's best to just read all 60 of them! Many epic black girl friendship momence between Summer and Stephanie + Jason comes in from time to time to cause problems on purpose(and to flirt with Summer)
Red Hood and the Outlaws-Summer finally joins a team and never like he thought he would.Jason's influence on him turned him into a different person again like when they were sidekicks but this time making him into the brightly destructive vigilante Ignite, hated by Metropolis once more for his antiheroics and turning over a new leaf because of it!This 92 issue series brings back familiar faces from Jason and Summer's pasts and tons of new ones, stacked with fantasy elements, trauma, jokes, epic fights, genuine bonding that a good chunk of them don't care to admit to,fanservice that caters to bisexuals and Jaysumm's canonization! But only near the end because ✨drama✨
The lineup for this team is:Jason Todd as Red Hood and briefly a Star Sapphire,Eddie Bloomberg as Red Devil,Rose Wilson as Ravager and eventually Willow,Summer Kent as Ignite,Artemis of Bana-Mighdall simply as 'Artemis',Kyle Rayner as Green Lantern,Pepper Jackson(@moonage-gaydream)as Star Sapphire and Thaddeus Thawne as Inertia. The team technically disbands by the end but they all remain best friends and keep in touch!
Gotham Academy:Second Semester and Gotham Academy/Lumberjanes-Major support once more(and main character in the latter)but this time finally in the mentor role!Maps and he in particular are linked(This is a special tool that will help us later)
All New Teen Titans-Damian's Teen Titans generation has come and their mentors are Jason still as Red Hood,Duke as The Signal,Stephanie freshly new at being Batwoman and Summer as Superman, taking over his Papí's mantle in the meantime as Clark is in a coma from rescuing Jon from Ultraman.Damian's lineup is him(Shadowbird),Maya Ducard(Nobody),Surren Darga(Fang),Jon Kent(Superboy),Nell Little(Batgirl),Maps Mizoguchi(7th Robin),Colin Wilkes(Abuse)and Kathy Branden(Beacon)
Their adventures are much more light-hearted than the Outlaws' but no less impressive and their bonds are all over the place in both bad and good ways and by the end, they've become family(Jason and Summer taking on the 'Team Parents' role and with additional romances in Damimaps,Surnell and Mayakathy). This run is 55 issues and lasts two years in-universe
New Ember Days-An ongoing slice of life epilogue that shows him being as beloved as Clark after going back to Ember, with a slightly adjusted costume(thank Jason for the pink domino mask, same as the black one for Ignite)and eventually comes up to him and Jason having their first bio kid after getting married,a girl named October with a mix of Kryptofang and Lazarus Pit dna and a bright attitude and love for most things.Action is frequent in this one and as always, humor is too
Wayne Family Adventures-He gets passing mentions in the earlier episodes and debuts in Dirty Little Secret, where Damian discovers him and Jason are dating while looking for Jason's weakness and returns in Belonging to comfort Stephanie after a call from her and does the same for Jason in Strong Enough while visiting Wayne Manor, slowly becoming a major recurring character from then on
Dead Sidekicks Force-Completely optional, this is an au that dives into what would've happened if Summer,Jason,Stephanie and Damian got even closer earlier and decided to form the titulary team as based on them being 'Dead Sidekicks' and recruting honorary members as they went along.Similar to the animated Teen Titans adaption in tone and to a lesser extent in artstyle too
That's about it for comics but for animation and video game fans,he also has big roles in the Utrh movie adaption,Ditf 2020,Lego Batman:Family Matters, the aformentioned Teen Titans cartoon(which has Dragon Rose as canon since they're both Dick's age in it and there being no Jason),the Injustice game series and Lego DC Supervillains and will be in season 2 of Batwheels along with Clark and Lois!

Also technically Barry isn't the reason for New Earth and it was more the Anti Monitor cause the other universe die but that's completely undone. And all anyone remembers from that event is Barry died to stop the big machine. (Some people also might recall Supergirl dying) But realistically Barry dying is the event that defines the era. Like the night Gwen Stacy died really being what ended the Silver Age across the board and comics took a tonal shift because of her you know what I mean.
And also the Spectre did Zero Hour but Hal totally would've and most people are under the assumption Hal reset the universe seemingly including the writer of the Hal Jordan Spectre run so... Hal gets the credit
And also also Flashpoint and Rebirth were some Dr Manhattan copouts but nobody cares about that shit and Barry and Wally are allll over those events so again credit is theirs

And I laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed.
The best handling the alien discrimination was when Kara's absolutely forgotten she was Kryptonian and became 100% Kara Danvers.
Or how humans' asses was licked during entire 6 seasons, because humans are superiorrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Or how it always ended with compassion and hope only for the good aliens.
Or how in SG's writers opinion solving the "aliens take away or jobs" resentment was putting Lockwood into jail. Problem solved!
Or how Kara was writing cool alien articles (about her alien self included) while pretending to be a human.
Or how Lobotomizer never paid for her anti alien bullshit.
Or basically good aliens were the aliens that fully merged into perfect usamerican citizens.
I haven's seen SI, so maybe SG handled the whole shit better, what doesn't mean it was handled well.

actually if anyone wants my more real thoughts sort of not joke thoughts on my very real categories of early modern queerbait, queerbait and post queerbait as well as movements within i would define the beginning of early modern queerbait as ranging from sometime in the 70s when fan culture was beginning and early slash fandoms like kirk/spock and starsky and hutch etc and that leading to in 1979 it becoming known enough that kirk/spock was actually addressed in the infamous motion picture novelization footnote which actually at the time inspired a lot of debate in fan spaces u can read some of the letters into various archived zines if it was totally shutting down the k/s fans and something to be mad about or if it was in fact showing support etc and is a complex interaction between fans and the people creating the works and so on and eventually leading into the 90s where fan engagement became even larger and connected with the internet and in general changing tides of television leading to more follow through and serialized elements that inspires greater fan devotion and theorizing leading into like the x files fans coining the term shipping and in general the deft back and forth they managed with constantly playing between hinting at a romance between mulder and scully but also not going too far to annoy people who were staunchly anti romance etc and shows like buffy cultivating a strong gay fan base and shipping culture while also managing to dabble in both actual gay characters and fun gay subtext as well as again creating an absolutely massive fanbase and levels of creator fanbase interaction that reverberate to this day... and then well theres xena :3 pushing the concept of gay subtext to its literal breaking point and pioneering techniques that will be used in future baits while not being bait itself but also the impact of its writers will be felt forever and i think a great example of gay people having fun behind the scenes a secret fuel of iconic queerbait nobody really considers (keep in mind later since one of the lesbian xena writer/producers was also a writer producer on house and some of the most subtext heavy episodes a somewhat inexplicable inclusion in the queerbait canon but fueled by the same great minds behind xena) and well the demarcation of this early modern period into genuine queerbait probably lies around 2008 with the beginnings of many iconic pieces of the queerbait canon but also that we are beginning to approach levels of gay characters on random network tv shows rarely seen before we approach the glee singularity another show of note since fan engagement and taking brittany and santana seriously by fans and the actresses themselves lead like something that was essentially a somewhat homophobic joke become like a serious major part of the show and like the tipping point from subtext to queerbait era i believe is the fact that like standard homophobic jokes stock standard from decades of tv well we were reaching a point of gay characters being more and more common on tv that it creates a situation where perhaps these jokes are no longer diffusing speculation about a characters sexuality but are in fact increasing it... leading to the queerbait era a confluence of increased more immediate fan engagement shipping culture becoming like fairly mainstream to the point it will be referenced in the shows themselves and increasing presence of gay characters across tv so what used to simply be normal subtext or homophobic jokes or in fact gay writers doing things just for funsies all coalesce into queerbait that we know and love its something with ever shifting definitions but has essentially created a canon of shows that define the concept for itself...
and now as we enter the post queerbait era which might begin after the ends of classics of the queerbait shows like supernatural or supergirl ending in 2020 and 2021 respectively though classic queerbait was obviously in decline earlier than that and that the shifting landscape of gay characters makes that special sauce that peaked in like 2012-2015 lose its luster i do believe the first post queerbait show to be riverdale which like intentionally jokingly engaged with the entire concept in a self aware way its not queerbaiting its saving the world wow so true post queerbait can also be active anxiety about being seen as queerbaiting and engaging directly with that in handling of gay characters that it has now entered general public discourse perhaps people have successfully bullied good omens into a gay kiss when it was so clearly designed to slot into the superwholock era but past its peak we shall see where this goes... anyways we shall see what lies in store for this field of study as other scholars devote their minds to this great task

60.  Karamel Endgame for „Supergirl“
Tumblr media
Was this ever going to happen? The speculation was there, after all „Supergirl“ was ending, and no one was expecting the show to just, you know, stop. While I personally think the ending was kind of fitting even thought the writers did not think the ramifications of Kara outing herself completely through, the forever goodybe between Kara and Mon-El caught me of guard because … why?
I mean, yes, we all know Kara would never leave Alex behind, but since there is time travel, why rob the fans of the possibility of an happy ending even if they are not showing it to us because they want to keep Supergirl around in the present for future crossovers? The really annoying part is that we actually won’t ever see Supergirl again. There is very little chance of her appearing in Season 9 of „The Flash“ and there is no Supergirl in „Superman & Lois“, and even if there were, it would not be Kara, just some Doppelganger of her, so who cares? The Season 4-6 Writer’s Room was very Anti-Season 1-3. In the end it seems like they actually wanted to purge Kreisberg from the show by undermining his storytelling. Which is a shame, because it’s not like he was writing the show by himself, and people liked it, and a lot of people thought that the first three seasons were better than the last three - and not because of Covid or Melissa’s pregnancy. So I don’t think we would have gotten this under that Writer’s Room, but especially looking back, it would have been a better decision to have the show end with Kara going away with Mon-El for whatever reason than to have her stick around and never see her again anyways.

re: weird trauma reversal and also being late to the fandom
i was also quite late to the fandom and one of the things i’ve noticed is that i think in some ways you can tell when someone bingewatched the series after it was complete, or close to when it was complete, and especially in terms of the relationships people have with the characters.
i think one of the biggest examples of this is james - i kind of feel like a lot of the people who are more open to the fact that guardiancorp happened or felt there was ‘potential there’ etc are people who would have watched seasons 1 & 2 in particular play out in real time over the course of 2 years, so they had time to form more of an acquaintance and acceptance of what his character was intended to be, whereas i think if you watched all of the seasons back to back to back over a matter of weeks james’ behaviour is so erratic across the course of seasons 1 - 4 that he just seems kind of like a manipulative jerk because suddenly the kara -> lucy -> kara -> guardian -> luthors are evil -> lena is hot comes right on the heels of each other in a way that it wouldn’t have if you were watching the series in weekly episodes.
but in specific relation to what you were saying about cheapening kara’s traumas, i think bingewatching makes that cheapening effect even worse and that it also has an impact on how people see kara and lena actually, because - similar to how it’s hard to see james as the character the showrunners intended when you binge watch - when you speedrun through s3 - s4 the inconsistency with kara’s character and her traumas makes some of her flaws, like the self-righteousness and the hypocrisy, seem even worse in a way because it’s so much more compressed? it’s a lot easier to see how it must have seemed to lena when she looked back in retrospect and revisited their friendship after the trauma of lex because the flipflopping in one episode to the next isn’t over the course of a week or a season.
(i thought the lex trauma comment in one of your earlier posts was really astute and it resonated with me so much - while there’s plenty of balanced fiction and also fiction that completely ignores that lena did Bad Things, on the other side of it I really don’t think a lot of lena’s antis really account for the fact that yeah, she completely went haywire and yeah, it was pretty ooc, but at the same time the writers did try to set the stage for it - she lived through making a morally grey decision involving a once beloved family member and then having the rug pulled out from under her immediately after, and right on the heels of some very erratic behaviour by kara. lena sitting in her office feeling used that kara only wanted her to use her as a source always gets me, like her doubts of their friendship weren’t just seeded by supergirl/kara being two people alone.)
sorry for the long comment! i try so hard to be a normal person but some of the things you say just really resonate with me, and then… this happens. congrats on completing diat as well and excited for your wips!!!
Yeah!! That makes sense. Having started the show in early 2022 and binging it, I have no sense of the pacing at all. Someone (maybe you?) brought up in another ask that the stuff with Kara’s DNA in S6 came up during covid era, when talk about DNA replication was pretty common on the news, which made it especially odd in the show that they treated it like a single-opportunity thing. I would never have thought of the covid context, since I wasn't watching then.
It makes sense that bingewatching would make that trauma reversal aspect even worse! I hadn’t thought of that. Also, ouch, the rift buildup being worse tears my heart out - it was already pretty heartwrenching from my point of view, speed running through the series!
... also, god, waiting an entire summer between S4 and S5 would’ve killed me 🤣
I feel pretty lucky in that I haven’t come across too many anti-Lena or anti-Kara folks (yet?). I just really don’t understand it… they’re just both such compelling characters. They’re both flawed, and they’re both trying to do the right thing, and they’re both trying to deal with their traumas, and I can’t imagine reading stuff for this ship without loving them both.
(Thank you for the comment, please never apologize!! I love reading these! It’s not like I’m normal either 🤣)

For the writer ask…
Peter David.
I always enjoy hearing your thoughts, my friend. 😊
:D
For me, Peter David is mostly good. Give that guy some lines to color in, and he makes a very pretty picture. Give him a blank canvas, though… you'll get something a lil' more whack.
Love his witty dialogue and ability to pull off a humorous plot. He does fun team dynamics with Young Justice and heartfelt one-shots for Spider-Man.
As for 90's Supergirl… that's just him doing whatever the fuck he wants, and I don't really recommend it. It wasn't boring, exactly, but it was just irreverant enough to annoy me, and I don't have much desire to return to the cast. The glaring exception is his big finale for the series: Many Happy Returns.
It's amazing how I can be so lukewarm about his Supergirl series as whole, but love that one final arc.
He gets political sometimes, and that does exasperate me. Still rolling my eyes that he has so many anti-gun issues in YJ and uses the range weapon member of the team as his mouthpiece. I'll give him credit for portraying Cissie's trauma in such a visceral way, but he's still got her using hunting tip arrows on just about every panel where she's wielding her bow. Mr. David and I weren't gonna align on this matter anyway, but details like that make his take feel especially silly to me.
Nonetheless, I have a lot of nostalgia wrapped up in stuff he's done. When I see his name on a cover, I do perk up in positive way and strongly consider grabbing the issue.

#Onthisday 38 years ago, Marv Wolfman and George Pérez’ 12 issue saga ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ began with issue one published by DC.
The Multiverse has parallel universes besides our own where we all reside within a singular construct and ultimately can all suffer the same fate because of this fact. The first time within DC that the Multiverse idea became a reality was in 1961’s "The Flash of Two Worlds" from The Flash #123 with Barry Allen (the Silver Age Flash) teaming up with Jay Garrick (the Golden Age Flash). Ever since, creators began to take advantage of the fact that there can be other universes or earths besides the main universe. The trend during the 1960s and 1970s was to place several characters, both initially a DC comics property or newly acquired IP from other companies, in random new worlds; this all made the DCU grow bigger and bigger, resulting in a convoluted mess of a Multiverse. This was noticed by writer Marv Wolfman (New Teen Titans) who believed part of DC’s problem with decreasing comic book sales at the time was because of the confusing multiverse and how it makes it harder for writers to stay up to date assuring there’s no continuity hiccups in their stories.
After introducing in 1982 the cosmically powered character called The Monitor in The New Teen Titans #21, to clean up the complicated multiverses developed over the decades, in January 1985 Wolfman and George Perez’ 12 issue arc ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ began to change the structure of the entire DC Comics Universe for the first time in its history. The villain Anti-Monitor begins destroying different Earths. It is up to the good counterpart, The Monitor, to team up with characters across the Multiverse to stop this destruction. Although the battle was costly with the deaths of figures from Supergirl to The Flash, one single Earth was created instead of an entire Multiverse. This meant, however, that many characters from various Earths in “Pre-Crisis” continuity cease to exist, taking a huge toll on the then extensive Batman Family. As the following year of 1987 ultimately updated the Batman universe’s origins and backgrounds, Wolfman and Peréz’ ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ even almost 40 years later would continue to influence the ever evolving worlds of DC Comics.✌🏽💙🦇🌎📚

“If the producers of Supergirl wanted a Latina woman to play Maggie Sawyer, why not cast one? How many people know Meagan Good is part Puerto Rican? Or that Harry Shum Jr. She’s even gone on record stating how Hollywood wants their Latinas to look Italian,” she wrote. “Gina Torres is a proud Afro-Cuban American woman who, as far as I know, never gotten a chance to play a Latina woman on screen. This can, and has, further contributed to the alienation of Afro and Indigenous Latinxs within our community.” “It also, I personally feel, encourages some individuals within the Latinx community to reject their indigenous or black ancestry in favor of whiteness. “By ignoring those parts of our community, media creates a distorted image of our culture, which allows the continued whitewashing of our community, ignorance regarding our identities, and contributes to a lack of empathy of our struggles,” she wrote. It’s important that media reflects the actual reality of the Latinx community, which includes a wide range of races, and even religious identities.” I have to– otherwise I contribute to the continued problems of colorism in both the Latinx community and within a larger worldwide context,” wrote Desiree Rodriguez, Editorial Assistant for Lion Forge sci-fi comic book Catalyst Prime and writer for Women on Comics and The Nerds of Color, in an email interview.”By favoring women who look like me, you erase the multitude of men, women, and non-binary Latinx individuals who don’t look like me. “I understand my privilege as a light-skinned afro-Boricua woman. Even though it’s women of color, it’s much more valuable in media to be light skinned than dark skinned.” I really feel like that’s an issue that translates to the screen as well. I think that’s…something that’s very important,” said Kimberly Hoyos, filmmaker and creator of The Light Leaks, a website designed to support, educate and empower female and gender non-conforming filmmakers. “Even in my Latino community, there’s a weird emphasis on how dark you are or how light you are or where you’re from. “…here’s obvious merit in bringing in new talent because that director could be the next person who discovers the next actor. All of them sounded off on the colorism and anti-blackness that affects Latinx who don’t look like, as Young Hollywood hinted at in his own words to Amara, the stereotypical “Latinx” person. Last year, I interviewed several Latinx content creators for my longform piece on what it’s like being Latinx in Hollywood. If you needed an example of one of the biggest issues facing Afro-Latinx, look no further than Young Hollywood’s interaction with Amara. Young Hollywood needs to check himself, because he’s a prime example of anti-blackness in the Latinx community. I’m actually not sure what I would have done, but it would definitely be something people wouldn’t expect from someone as quiet-natured as me.Ĥ. “ NUTELLA QUEEN”? Amara played this exchange much cooler than I think I would have. First, it’s the overt colorism and anti-blackness he embodies with comments about not being glamorous with an afro, mocking the Black Power fist, and calling Amara “Afro-Latina Queen” and “Nutella Queen,” not to mention questioning the validity of the Afro-Latina identity.ģ. How disrespectful and racist can he be? It’s as if he went out of his way to be disrespectful. Basically, what I’m saying is that Young Hollywood doesn’t seem as popular as he wants everyone to believe.Ģ. I feel like if Young Hollywood were really important in the music industry, I’d certainly know more about him than his tragic presentation of himself on Love and Hip Hop Miami. WHO is Young Hollywood? Not to play that “I don’t know her” game, but I don’t know who this is, and I know a lot about pop culture. It's sad that people actually think like this. In this clip, Dominican singer Amara La Negra face intense colorism and racism from producer Young Hollywood. I’m not a watcher of any of the Love and Hip Hop franchise, but I had to take a moment out of my day to write about the controversy that flared up during the first episode of Love and Hip Hop Miami.

• X-Men is about civil rights. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get X-Men. • Black Panther is about civil rights. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Black Panther. • Captain America literally fought fuckin nazis. He is the embodiment of fighting the alt-right. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Captain America. • The Empire in Star Wars is fascist. The Rebel alliance are Anti-Fascist. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Star Wars. • The Punisher isn’t meant to be a role model for police or armed forces. So much so that the writers of The Punisher made him actively speak out against it in a comic. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get The Punisher. • Deadpool is queer. He’s pansexual. Fact. If you didn’t get that you didn’t get Deadpool. • Star Trek is about equality for all genders, races and sexualities. • Superman and Supergirl (and a whole host of other superheroes) are immigrants. The stance of those comics is pro-immigration and pro-equality and acceptance. If you didn’t get that, you didn’t get Superman or Supergirl. • Stan Lee said “Racism and bigotry are among the deadliest social ills plaguing the world today.” If you’re bigoted or racist, you didn’t get any of the characters Stan Lee created. • The stories we grew up with all taught us to value other people and cultures and to treasure the differences between us. Only villains were xenophobic, or sexist, or racist, or totalitarian. I can’t understand how anyone can have missed that. • If you’re upset that there’s a black Spider-Man, or a black Captain America, or a female Thor, or that Ms Marvel is Muslim, or that Captain Marvel was pro-feminism, or any of the other things right wing “fans” say is “stealing their childhood” - you never got it in the first place. The things you claim are now “pandering to the lefties” were never on your side to begin with. https://www.instagram.com/p/CgQ84ccOpxe/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🆘 They did it again, I knew it since ep 1!!! So typical CW queerbaiting trope, the protagonist who is very straight and has a gay sibling, now has a very gay story with another female character! 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️
Any daja vu?🤷‍♀️
